7. Introduction
Ancient Egypt was one of the earliest,
longest-lasting and most influential
civilizations in the history. The civilization of
ancient Egypt is known for its stupendous
achievements in a whole range of fields
,including art and architecture ,engineering
,medicine and statecraft .Its great buildings
on the banks of the river Nile still strike awe
into those who see them .

8. Location
 Egypt is situated in the
Nile Valley, in the north
east of Africa .Its
origins lay in several
chiefdoms in upper
Egypt.
 The life of Ancient
Egypt centered around
the river Nile and the
fertile land along its
banks.

9. Religion
The ancient Egyptians
worshipped many
Gods and Goddesses
.These included Ra
,the sun god ;Isis, the
goddess of nature and
magic ;Horus ,the god
of war ;and Osiris ,the
god of death.

10. Economy and Society
Ancient Egypt’s economy
was based on
agriculture .The great
majority of the people
were peasant farmers
.Peasants also provided
the mass labour which
built the pyramids and
temples along the Nile
Valley .

11. The Army
 Soldiers of ancient
Egyptian armies were
armed with bows and
arrows, spears and
round-topped shields
.The prime duty of the
army was to defend
Egypt against foreign
invasion.

12. Government
The ancient Egyptian
civilization produced the
first government to rule an
entire nation .
The Pharaoh was the
ruler of ancient Egypt
,both politically and
religiously .The Pharaoh
held the title “Lord of the
Two land”.

13. Writing and Language
The first hieroglyphic
writing that has come
down to us dates from
3000 BC .A hieroglyph
can represent a word ,a
sound or a silent
determinative ;and the
same symbol can
server different
purposes in different
contexts.

15. Art
Much of the art which has
come down to us is
funerary art-art designed
for the tomb .Ancient
Egyptian art emphasised a
rigid style which changed
remarkable little over the
millennia .The houses of
the wealthy also had richly
painted walls with scenes
of people ,water pools and
geometric designs .

The ancient Egyptians built
some of the most-awe
inspiring structures the
world has ever seen ,such
as the Pyramids .Later
monumental architecture
can be seen most clearly in
the temples and giant
statues of the Valley of the
kings and Abu Simble .
