3d Printing Essay
3D Printing Quietly Thriving without Mainstream Adoption Silicon Valley first received its
name some 50 years ago in reference to a robust STEM research base housed in the area, but
today it is home to the some of the most powerful, innovative upstarts in the world. And so, the
word disruption has become synonymous with the Valley s obsession of using advanced
technology to solve old market problems. These days it means harnessing the power of data and
artificial intelligence in a real world context. But before there was Big Data, 3D printing laid claim
to the distinction of most rousing technology. Early advocates claimed cheap 3D printers would

In the field of medicine, the technology has the potential to increase precision and improve the
overall effectiveness of surgical procedures. Some researchers are even studying applications in
tissue engineering such as printing complex cell patterns or organs. As the market continues to
mature, look for well established companies to explore business opportunities in the 3D printing
market. The emergence of large, blue chip players like General Electric (GE) and Ford (F) in the
past year further legitimizes the recent trend in additive manufacturing. General Electric s big
bet on 3D printings intends to support its efforts to grow as a digital industrial company
whereas Ford hopes to print low cost automotive parts at scale. An aggressive push into 3D
printing can help revive top and bottom line performance at a time where both companies have
struggled to lift shareholder value. Other functions of 3D printing range from mass producing
footwear, which traditionally relies on low cost labor in third world countries, to constructing a
home. Earlier this year a new robot from MIT built a dome like structure spanning 50 feet wide
and 12 feet high in less than 14 hours. The 3D technology allowed for faster, cheaper and more
adaptable construction, but the long term vision for the project is to build on Mars. Printing in
three dimensions introduces a wealth of opportunities with a broad set of applications, but one

The Impact Of Handedness On Health Related Outcomes For...
What genes (or classes of genes) and what environmental factors have been implicated and how
might they mediate this biological effect? Discuss how handedness may be related to health related
outcomes for individuals and discuss how genetic and environmental influences might mediate
these effects.
Introduction
Handedness is a complex phenotype of humans in which individuals have a preference or
advantage for use of a hand. Handedness is a not a discrete trait, but continuous. Right handedness
is accepted as normal over left handedness. There are four types of handedness (left handedness,
right handedness, mixed handedness, where one hand is favoured for some tasks and the other
hand for different tasks, and, ambidexterity where each hand is equally strong) however,
handedness is a continuum so individuals can fall within a range of different degrees of
handedness. Left handedness is less common than right handedness, with only approximately 10%
of people being left handed (Hardyck Petrinovich 1977). Left handedness can be further divided in
to natural left handedness, where a person whose handedness is a result of genetic and cultural
factors, and pathological left handedness caused by early damage to the left hemisphere of the brain.
Handedness is first demonstrated between 9 10 weeks gestation, where the developing embryo
begins to exhibit single arm movements (Hepper, McCartney, Shannon 1998). Although some
elements of handedness develop in the embryo, there are both

The Whole Foods Company was established in Austin, Texas from an idea of four local
entrepreneurs who believed that the natural foods industry was developed enough to be
introduced into large retailing which was the Supermarket. The initial Whole Foods Market was
inaugurated in 1980 with a workforce of just 19 individuals. The initiators were John Mackey
and Renee Lawson Hardy who were the owners of Safer Way Natural Foods, together with Craig
Weller and Mark Skiles who owned the Clarksville Natural Grocery. The entity picked up quickly
and it was an immediate success. This could have been owed to the minimal presence of natural

Advantages Of Quantum Cryptography
Quantum Cryptography
Introduction
Quantum cryptography is a new method for secret communications offering the ultimate security
assurance of the inviolability of a Law of Nature. Unlike traditional classical cryptography, which
uses mathematical techniques to restrict eavesdroppers, quantum cryptography is focused on the
physics of information. The development of quantum cryptography be classified as either public
key or secret key methods. This cryptography also involving two or more parties who may not
trust one another. The best known cryptographic problem is the transmission of secret messages.
Suppose wish to communicate in secret. For example, you may wish to give your credit card

Mathematical cryptography, as bad as it sometimes is, is the strongest link in most security chains.
Our symmetric and public key algorithms are pretty good, even though they re not based on much
rigorous mathematical theory. The real problems are elsewhere: computer security, network
security, user interface and so on.
Even quantum cryptography doesn t solve all of cryptography: The keys are exchanged with
photons, but a conventional mathematical algorithm takes over for the actual encryption.
Conclusion
Cryptography is used frequently. For example, credit card numbers are encrypted when you buy
something on the internet. Many government agencies are used cryptography to get messages
safely around the world. Public key cryptography is an innovation and which is an unavoidable
part of almost all security protocol and application. Being able to negotiate a shared secret between
two devices online without the need of any exchange of secret data created a breakthrough in secure

instance. At least once a day, we witness an individual or a family experiencing homelessness. In
America alone, there are approximately 643,067 people experiencing homelessness. The statistics
vary from state to state. Approximately 33,466 of those individuals live in the state of Florida. The
city Orlando, resides 2,074 out of the 33,466 individuals.
Although all these individuals are experiencing homelessness, not everyone shares a common
cause for their homelessness. There are three types of homelessness each having a different
cause and issue. The three types are chronic, transitional, and episodic. Chronic homelessness is
the least common homelessness, but it consists of those who are homeless for a longer amount
of time, usually being elderly or injured individuals. Transitional homelessness is when people
stay at a shelter for a short period of time due a catastrophic event or forced to go for a short period
of time. It is also considered to be the most common type of homelessness. Lastly, episodic

In the decade mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets have risen in usage for visiting
websites. Since 2010 there as been a 400% growth in mobile web searches. (ETC, 2013)
Unfortunately websites are very hard for the user to view and navigate through websites not
designed for a small screen used on cell phones. This was the new challenge for web designers to
solve and with the growth of popularity of mobile usage the web designers needed to make
websites for both personal computers and mobile devices. Now often if the user visit a website
using a mobile device they will be asked if they want to go to the mobile site which are
specifically designed for a better user interface and design for the mobile device. With the smaller
screens of mobile devices the we designers needed to layout the website completely differently so
the user does not get overwhelmed or confused. The new trend for 2013 is called Responsive Web
Design also known as RWD which allows users have a better experience on both P.C. s and mobile
devices. The RWD templates are designed to work and have a good visual feel on a variety of
different screens, so a user on any device accessing a website will have a good experience on

A Resident Of South Africa
An individual who is not ordinarily resident in South Africa can still be a resident of South Africa
provided that person meets the requirements of the physical presence test (Stiglingh, Koekemoer,
Van Schalkwyk, Wilcocks e Swardt.2012:51).
With the physical presence test, with which a natural person, who is not at any time ordinarily
resident in the Republic of South Africa during the relevant year of assessment, must comply
before that person will be a resident as defined in section 1. This can further be elaborated by
Interpretation Note 4 dated 4 February 2004.
The physical presence test, also known as the day test or time rule , is based on the number of
days that a natural person is physically present in the Republic. The purpose or nature of the visit is
irrelevant. It must be determined annually whether all the requirements of the physical presence
test have been met.
Paragraph (a) (ii) of the definition of a resident in section 1(1) of the Income Tax Act refers to a
natural person who is not at any time during the relevant year of assessment ordinarily resident in
the Republic. The ordinarily residence test supersedes the physical presence test. The physical
presence test is thus not applicable during any year of assessment that a person is ordinarily
resident in the Republic.

in South Africa during a year of assessment, the person must be present in

The Role Of The Patriot Act And The Middle East
In recent years we have seen drastic changes occur in our country. Since the terrorist attack on
the twin towers we have seen many changes take place in everyday situations. Homeland
Security was established. There are security checks at airports; a tedious procedure ensuring
everyone s safety at airports and safety during traveling. The minds of American citizens have
turned a cold shoulder to Muslims or anyone who bears a turban. Fear, prejudice and intolerance
has spread through our country since the 9/11 attacks. Wars spread like wild fire in the Middle
East, the United States entered a war on terror. The budget on defense spending has risen
immensely and some economists debate that this large spending had some effect on the recent
recession America has faced. Citizens also feel the effects of the Patriot Act and other legislation
that allow government intrusions, reducing our civil rights and such ideals as a personal life .

Why The World Should Be A Bit More Scotland Summary
Why The World Should Be A Bit More Scottish
By Eilidh Elliot
Amongst the thick accents and the locks of ginger hair under a constant cover of rain lies a country
wrapped in tartan and populated with the boisterous clans of the Scots. Throughout centuries
Scotland has produced innovative ideas, accomplished writers and highly decorated athletes. The
rolling hills and the multiple munros and the great depths of the lochs scattered around northern
scotland all add to the natural beauty of the country. Even though the weather is bleak and
miserable this just adds to the character of the place. Here in this land of vast beauty live the world
s greatest people the Scots!
In order to fully understand When you picture a scot you probably imagine a round, exuberant
man stomping down the road cladded fully in tartan, a ginger beard framing his face holding in
one hand a whisky and in the other a bagpipe. But that I m afraid it s simply just not true. Us scots
aren t just what the stereotypes claim. Despite that there is some truth behind them they don t
define us, no small amount of words can truly describe a true scot in all of their glory. One of the ...

nature of the scots. Chris Hoy is one of the most successful olympians athletes of all time, he has

Killer Angels Essay
The Killer Angels
The Battle of Gettysburg brought the dueling North and South together to the small town of
Gettysburg and on the threshold of splitting the Union. Gettysburg was as close as the United
States got to Armageddon and The Killer Angels gives the full day to day account of the battle that
shaped America s future. Michael Shaara tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg through the eyes
of the generals and men involved in the action of the battle. The historical account of the Battle of
Gettysburg gives the reader a chance to experience the battle personally and not the history book
manner taught in schools. A historical novel gives the facts straightforward and provides no
commentary by the people involved in history. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shaara, through his commentary on General Lee, explains that Lee did not want to fight the war
but had to. Lee felt it was his duty to fight for his fellow countrymen, but not for a cause, land, or
slavery. So it was no cause and no country he fought for, no ideal and no justice. He fought for his
people, for the children, and the kin, and not even the land, because the land was worth the war,
but the people were, General Lee says (Shaara 263). General Lee fights for himself and has no
choice but to fight, knowing in the end that he might be wrong with his cause and pay the price
someday. General Lee is not a proponent of war, but he will serve his country with honor and duty
if necessary.
A man of ideals and honor represent the character of Union Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Being
a man of education, Chamberlain knows the demeaning and repulsive nature of slavery and has
come to fight to end it. Chamberlain hates the whole idea of the Civil War and the death and
destruction that goes along with it. I used my brother to plug a hole. Did it automatically as if he
were expendable, says Chamberlain (Shaara 304). He hates the idea that men, including his
brother, are dying out in the fight for slavery. The only reason he believes in the Civil War is
that if he the North did not fight freedom would be tarnished and a great travesty would occur.
Chamberlain is not a man of war and blood and doesn t relish war and its qualities. The idea of war

Exposing the Ugliness of Tourism in Jamaica Kincaid s...
Jamaica Kincaid addresses the reader as a tourist in her book A Small Place. Throughout the book
her sarcasm and resentment towards the postcolonial state of the country cannot be missed. She
exposes the ugliness of tourism, she writes, The thing you have always suspected about yourself the
minute you become a tourist is true: A tourist is an ugly human being (14). Kincaid points to the
fact that the tourists (European and American) and the tourismindustry are morally ugly. The first
section of her book displays how tourism uses the natives and the country as sources of pleasure
for the tourists as they make their way to their hotel, they watch in awe at the condition of the
country. Kincaid writes, They [Antiguans] are too poor to escape the reality of their lives; and
they are too poor to live properly in the place where they live, which is the very place you, the
tourist, want to go they envy your ability to turn their own banality and boredom into a source of
pleasure for yourself (19). The tourists do not see, and perhaps do not want to see the reality of this
picturesque island they are vacationing on. Kincaid writes, [Y]ou needn t let that slightly funny
feeling you have from time to time about exploitation, oppression, domination develop into full
fledged unease, discomfort; you could ruin your holiday (10). This mirrors the mindset of not only
tourists, but of the past and current exploiters who do not see the suffering and damage they cause,

Peripheral intravenous device insertion is the most commonly performed invasive procedure in
hospitalized patients, with an estimated 150 million placed each year in North America alone

administering medications, providing blood and blood products and even nutrition to the patient,
but are not without their complications. These complications include thrombophlebitis, infiltration
and blood stream infection. Thrombophlebitis is among the most common complications of
having intravenous access. Symptoms of phlebitis include pain, redness, tenderness upon
palpation, swelling and warmth at the IV site and are all related to the inflammation of the vein
(Uslusoy Mete, 2008). Several studies were completed with the aim to determine predisposing
factors that lead to a patient developing phlebitis. The other research articles discussed looks at
the acceptance of a policy that is supposed to prevent phlebitis and other complications associated
with IV access. Literature Review Research by Pasalioglu Kaya (2008) looked at factors such as
age, gender, number of catheterizations, the size of the catheter, anatomical site of the IV,
administration of antibiotics, the duration the catheter remained in the vein, the cause of removal
of IV and the level of phlebitis, if present, by utilizing a pre determined staging key (Pasalioglu

Game Theory, Deal or No Deal
From the show s introduction in December 2005, NBC has had tremendous success with the
game show Deal or No Deal. The game show, which was created in the Netherlands, pits
acontestant against the mysterious banker. The contestant is trying for the case with $1
million, while the banker s stated goal is to get the contestant to go home with as little money as
possible while also trying to keep the game going for as long as possible. Deal or No Deal is a
unique game show in that it takes virtually no skill on the part of the contestant. As long as the
contestant can count to 26 (the number of cases), he can play the game. But this lack of skill
requirement allows us, as economists, to study how people make decisions in a situation where all...

In other words, there is a greater risk involved with continuing when the remaining cases are very
far apart than when they are close together. Two sets of cases can have the same expected value,
yet have much different risk levels associated with not taking the deal. A large standard deviation
will mean that there is more risk of getting a substantially lower pay out than if there is a small
standard deviation. Take, for example, a set of cases with $100,000 and $200,000 and another
set with $0.01 and 300,000. These two sets of cases have almost the same expected value
($150,000), but the deal is much more enticing for the second group because of the much higher
standard deviation. How a person interprets and handles the risk associated with the standard
deviation depends on how much they like risk. Someone who is risk averse will be less willing to
play on when facing a case set with a high standard deviation than someone who is risk seeking.
The contestant s risk tolerance can be measured by the deal they

The Ancient Chinese culture has contributed in many ways to the way of life today as we know it.
Upon completion of this paper, I will have identified eight to ten useful inventions or contributions

planting, deep drilling, and toilet paper and so on. Within those eight to ten inventions, I will choose
four that I believe are the most innovative.

gunpowder mixtures and the Chinese used it for signal flares before appropriating it for military
use in rudimentary grenades. Over time, we realized that metals added to the mixtures created
brilliant colors in gunpowder explosions and modern day fireworks were born! It also makes a
handy explosive for projectiles like bullets. (Josh Clark)
Paper
Once language begins to develop, though, humans wrote on anything that would stand still long
enough. Clay tablets, bamboo, papyrus and stone were only a few of the early writing surfaces.
Things changed once the Chinese, specifically a man named Cai Lun, invented the prototype for
modern paper. Before Cai s breakthrough, the Chinese wrote on thin strips of bamboo and lengths
of silk, but in AD 105, he created a mixture of wood fibers and water and pressed it onto a woven
cloth. The weave in the cloth allowed the moisture in the pulpy mixture to seep out, resulting in
rough paper. (Josh Clark)
Toilet Paper (Sui Dynasty: 581 618 AD) As noted above, paper was an early invention of China.
One of the first recorded accounts of using hygienic paper was

The trial was long and was delayed numerous times due to Kunstler s busy schedule with other

abundance of evidence shown throughout the trial among which was the ballistics test. These test
showed that of the five shots that Skagen endured only two were from Richardson s gun. After a

Information Systems Security Review
Information Systems Security Review
Introduction
Information systems have three parts which include hardware, software and the communications
aspect. This view of Information systems is useful in applying industry standards for protection as
well as prevention at all layers (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). Procedures will tell the personnel
operating, or the administrators, how the products would ensure organizational information security.
Information System implies information that requires protection from improper access, disclosure,
or destruction (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). This is possible if the system ensures availability,
confidentiality, as well as integrity of any data in an organization. Corporations, financial
institutions, and governments have a lot of information on products, finances, research, and
employees. This information usually resides in electronic media and may move from one point to
another. Furthermore, with the advances in networks, transmission to other computers or access
points within a physical location or across the globe is possible. Any breach of the information
may have far reaching consequences such as bankruptcy, loss of competitive edge or lawsuits from
customers or business partners (Mithas et al, 2011). It is, therefore, imperative to ensure
Information Security.

Assumptions About Documentaries and an Analysis of The...
Assumption about documentaries being true, educational only, no imagination needed aren t
correct . There are several documentaries we watched in class that show that documentaries don t all
fall under the same assumptions. A common assumption about documentaries is that there is no
imagination needed. In a time when the major media recycle the same stories on the same subjects
over and over, when they risk little in formal innovation, when they remain beholden to powerful

Even though they are real people we weren t really seeing who they are.
A documentary film is not made up; it shows what really happens in real life; shows things as
they are naturally are. This statement is not completely true. The story a documentary tells stems
from the historical world but it is still told from the filmmaker s perspective and in the
filmmaker s voice. This is a matter of degree, not a black and white division. (Nichols, 12) In
these cases the stories told speak about the actual events directly, not allegorically, and the film
adheres to the known historical facts. Social actors, people, present themselves in fluid, negotiated,
revealing ways. (Nichols,12) According to Nichols documentaries are true events but the
filmmaker shapes what we see into what they want us to see. We are getting the perspective of the
directors. An example of movie watched in class was Nanook of the North, even though the people
were real, some of the scenes seemed staged. The director wants us to see Nanook and his people

they only try to treat their addiction. They view their addiction as a singular issue, with a

only sustainable way to recover from an addiction is to treat it with a holistic approach. This
means that you treat every single different aspect of your body and mind. Addiction recovery is
not only abstaining from your addiction it is rebuilding your life. A holistic approach will treat
the body and mind, as well as outside relationships and situations. You need to eat healthy. You
need to get plenty of sleep. You need to clean your house. You need to talk to your friends again.

mobilization. The fact that national leaders existed served to create role models that engendered

important to force the real and imaginative ties that invigorated the struggles on the local level.

Therefore, it is understandable that movement scholars tend to write from a rather activist stance.
There is nothing wrong with this per se, however, as historians, we should critically assess in how
far this positioning might limit our scholarship. At times, Payne tends to overemphasize the unity

among direct democratic groups like SNCC. Every social movement is made up of people, united
under what they perceive as an urgent need to bring about change. This unity tends to suppress
theoretical and practical differences for some time and can thus create a tremendous amount of
communality and solidarity among its members. However, as history has shown over and over

For years, many masters who sexually abuse their slave also impregnate them which causes
offsprings to be mix race. However it is clear that these mixed race offspring must sacrifice their
white privileges in order to survive in this institution of slavery. Even with white genes in them,
they are seen as inferior and so their white privileges are taken away such as in the story of
incidents in the Life of a slave girl the main characters parents were a light shade of brownish
yellow, and were termed mulattoes. They lived together in a comfortable home; and, though we
were all slaves, I was fondly shielded that I never dreamed I was a piece of merchandise. It is
bizarre that despite the parents being mulattoes which is a term for mix race, there black genes
over power there white ones and so they must face the hardship of slavery. Also, even though the
girl and her family seems to be more privilege than other slaves, they still follow the same
guidelines and are label as merchandise instead of a human being. Which brings up the issue of
many mulattoes during the slavery time period, were also sexually harassed and abused by their

slavery time period and the master usually would not have any parental emotion towards his own

her husband. Women were considered to be subservient to almost the entire male gender. Emilia

The readings for this day were by Carol Delaney and Amrite Pande and focused on topics of
motherhood, paternity, and surrogacy. In Delaney s work The Meaning of Paternity and the Virgin

paternity that stem from the longstanding Western religious belief in monogenesis (Delaney 1986).

way to consolidate their concerns and form strong bonds reminded of our discussion on
resistance and how despite the pressures compelling these women to become surrogates, they still
found ways to oppose systems they deemed too unfair. While I admit that my knowledge of
ethnographic on surrogacy cross culturally is lacking, Pande seems to imply in this reading that
surrogacy as a topic of ethnographic research is a relatively new topic (Pande 2010, 990). Pande s
work seems to be a starting contribution to the study of the still developing, uniquely gendered
work of surrogacy. An understanding of the powers that are acting on poor women to convince
them to become surrogates for richer couples seems essential to modern day

How New Technologies Impacted The Purchasing Habits Of The...
The rapid growth in technological capability, accessibility and usability during recent memory is
undeniable: in January 2015, almost 42% of the world s population had access to the internet,
there were 2.08 billion active social media accounts worldwide, mobile cellular internet
penetration was on an all time high with approximately 3 billion unique mobile users, including
more than 70% penetration in many emerging markets and developing nations worldwide. This
widespread prevalence comes with the ability to manifest market power and influence buying
decisions on a new, much larger scale. This essay will analyse in what ways new technologies
have impacted the purchasing habits of the public, their effects on the consumer decision making
process and how, if at all, marketers can utilise these new technologies in their favour and
influence consumers preferences. Purchasing behaviour varies depending on factors such as time
available for deliberation and decision making, the involvement in the purchase and the number of
options and alternatives. Despite the exact process adopted being unknown, there is a standard
known as the consumer decision making process, or CDP that many purchases follow. The first
step is need recognition, or becoming aware of a problem that can be solved by purchasing a
certain product. These can be functional needs, serving as a solution to a physical problem (such as
refuelling a vehicle), or alternatively fulfil emotional needs, including

Early Life Stages Of Aging Essay
Aging is a biological process by gradual deterioration of the physiological functions and
metabolic processes. (Hilaire Bakala et al 2012) Exposure to stressful situations during early life
can have intense health consequences and is impaired throughout life. However some cases of
this impact do not become evident until much later in life or decades later, when the individuals
begin to show signs of accelerated ageing. (Katherine A. et al 2014). While understanding the
relationship between early life and longevity has important implications in the field of aging, we
have still little information about the mechanisms involved in the prolonged times scales of stress
aging. A stress can stimulate various pathways leading to increased production of the reactive
oxygen species (ROS) it is well known that are highly reactive and capable of damaged many
biological macro molecules such as DNA, RNA, Proteins, and Lipids (Govinda Rao 1989; Tian et
al 1998). The accumulation of oxidative damaged molecules may cause genetic mutation and
cellular senescence (Tian et al 1998). Several data indicates that mitochondria are mostly affected

Factors Influencing The Performance Of Bank s...
Confirmatory factor analysis:
Confirmatory factor analysis is a type of structural equation modeling that deals specifically with
measurement models, that is, the relationship between observed measures or indicators and latent
variables or factors (Brown, 2015). In this paper, the method of factor analysis is used to calculate
the performance of bank s comprehensive management. Factor analysis method is used to reduce
the dimension of the method, named as a multivariate statistical analysis method. It is integrated
into a small number of factors, in order to reproduce the original variables and the relationship
between the factors, and then each component to a certain weight in order to calculate the
comprehensive score.

Problems With The Health Insurance
In America we have many problems that society may view as harmful or problems that need a
remedy to fix, there problems are called a social problem. Social problems can range from
school problems to drug problems. Each person in America can have their own opinion of what a
social problem is to them. Just like with time, social problems will change, some will come and
some will go. So, for right now in time one of the biggest social problems I can see in America is
the healthcare. There are many problems with the health insurancein America. According to our
books in America some of the biggest problems are: Medicare, Medicaid, Military Healthcare,
Workers Compensation, Complemtary, and Alternative Medicine. The book states that there are a
few strategies for action people can take to make these problems go away, such as: Selective
primary healthcare, Comprehensive primary healthcare, fighting obesity, work wellness programs,
public education, and the Affordable Care Act. (Linda A. Mooney, 2015) In this paper I am going
to discuss the biggest problems in America that involve healthcare insurance, how to fix these
problems, and the possible outcomes. As was previously stated, there are many social problems in
healthcare, but the biggest problems are: Medicare, Medicaid, Military Healthcare, Workers
Compensation, Complentary, and Alternative Medicine. Now I will break each one of these down
and explain why they are the biggest problems. Medicare is a type of insurance that

Gargoyles Research Paper
Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le
Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles
served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the
Cathedral. The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral s South
tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn t functional to the building and
is purely decor. Also referred to as the Melancholy Demon or Le Stryge, which according to
mythology, is a half woman, half bird demon that seeks to harm children, found prominently in
cemeteries . Le Stryge was made in the 19th century during which time a hierarchy... Show more

In the middle ages, gargoyles were the subject of pagan and demonic conversation , but for
Viollet le Duc they represented salvation, protection, and the soul of the building. Gargoyles that
sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important
function that told citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet le Duc was appalled at the actions of
the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which
proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very
important purpose of steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound.
While researching, Viollet le Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so
that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into
long, thin shapes and would further accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with
helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet le Duc insisted on proving the
gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further
steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies
were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet le Duc either found his gargoyles to be sacred,
or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . All of these
elements prove a point that Viollet le Duc s main goal was preservation of the structure after
restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and functional elements of its gothic

Essay On The Red Wheelbarrow
In William Carlos Williams 1923 poem, Red Wheelbarrow , the answers to the questions associated
with the undescribed imagery are not important. Instead, simple imagery is utilized to describe a
simplistic scene in which, so much depends / upon , leaving the reader to answer that question.
(Williams, 1923, p. 563, lines 1 2). The Red Wheelbarrow therefore, is devoted to a single image,
the image of a red wheelbarrow. Utilizing only sixteen words, the Red Wheelbarrow breaks the
traditional boundaries between ideas or items with its rather consistent lines. Furthermore, this
poem lacks any punctuation and proper grammar, yielding the idea that the stanzas never essentially
begin or end (Kirszner, Mandell, 2017). Without proper punctuation, the lines run together, with no
breaks or differentiation between a stanza and a couplet. Moreover, that the lines themselves appear
to create a unity within themselves because each focuses on a single element. An example is that
the wheelbarrow, the rain water, and the chickens are all grouped together (Williams, 1923).
Therefore, without punctuation, the lines are not connected, which leaves element connected to the
other through the statement because so much depends on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

563, lines 1 2). The color white often symbolizes simplicity, humility, and reverence (Color
Symbolization Chart, 2011). Therefore, as the chickens associate the wheelbarrow to the farm, the
color white further substantiates humility when associated with hard labor and abuse. Furthermore,
the fact that the white chickens remain beside of the wheelbarrow during or following a gentle rain,
reminds the reader that although tough times might persist, there is always someone or something
to wade through the storm with you (Williams, 1923). Overall, I feel that this stands as a reminder
that a person is never

The emergence of large, blue chip players like General Electric (GE) and Ford (F) in the past year further legitimizes the recent trend in additive manufacturing. General Electric s big bet on 3D printings intends to support its efforts to grow as a digital industrial company whereas Ford hopes to print low cost automotive parts at scale. An aggressive push into 3D printing can help revive top and bottom line performance at a time where both companies have struggled to lift shareholder value. Other functions of 3D printing range from mass producing footwear, which traditionally relies on low cost labor in third world countries, to constructing a home. Earlier this year a new robot from MIT built a dome like structure spanning 50 feet wide and 12 feet high in less than 14 hours. What genes (or classes of genes) and what environmental factors have been implicated and how might they mediate this biological effect? Discuss how handedness may be related to health related outcomes for individuals and discuss how genetic and environmental influences might mediate these effects. Introduction Handedness is a complex phenotype of humans in which individuals have a preference or advantage for use of a hand. Handedness is a not a discrete trait, but continuous. Right handedness is accepted as normal over left handedness. There are four types of handedness (left handedness, right handedness, mixed handedness, where one hand is favoured for some tasks and the other hand for different tasks, and, ambidexterity where each hand is equally strong) however, handedness is a continuum so individuals can fall within a range of different degrees of handedness. Left handedness is less common than right handedness, with only approximately 10% of people being left handed (Hardyck Petrinovich 1977). Left handedness can be further divided in to natural left handedness, where a person whose handedness is a result of genetic and cultural factors, and pathological left handedness caused by early damage to the left hemisphere of the brain. With the physical presence test, with which a natural person, who is not at any time ordinarily resident in the Republic of South Africa during the relevant year of assessment, must comply before that person will be a resident as defined in section 1. Throughout centuries Scotland has produced innovative ideas, accomplished writers and highly decorated athletes. The rolling hills and the multiple munros and the great depths of the lochs scattered around northern scotland all add to the natural beauty of the country. Shaara, through his commentary on General Lee, explains that Lee did not want to fight the war but had to. Lee felt it was his duty to fight for his fellow countrymen, but not for a cause, land, or slavery. So it was no cause and no country he fought for, no ideal and no justice. He fought for his people, for the children, and the kin, and not even the land, because the land was worth the war, but the people were, General Lee says (Shaara 263). General Lee fights for himself and has no choice but to fight, knowing in the end that he might be wrong with his cause and pay the price someday. General Lee is not a proponent of war, but he will serve his country with honor and duty if necessary. A man of ideals and honor represent the character of Union Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Being a man of education, Chamberlain knows the demeaning and repulsive nature of slavery and has come to fight to end it. Chamberlain hates the whole idea of the Civil War and the death and destruction that goes along with it. I used my brother to plug a hole. Did it automatically as if he were expendable, says Chamberlain (Shaara 304). He hates the idea that men, including his brother, are dying out in the fight for slavery. Throughout the book her sarcasm and resentment towards the postcolonial state of the country cannot be missed. She exposes the ugliness of tourism, she writes, The thing you have always suspected about yourself the minute you become a tourist is true: A tourist is an ugly human being (14). Kincaid points to the fact that the tourists (European and American) and the tourismindustry are morally ugly. The first section of her book displays how tourism uses the natives and the country as sources of pleasure for the tourists as they make their way to their hotel, they watch in awe at the condition of the country. Kincaid writes, They [Antiguans] are too poor to escape the reality of their lives; and they are too poor to live properly in the place where they live, which is the very place you, the tourist, want to go they envy your ability to turn their own banality and boredom into a source of pleasure for yourself (19). The tourists do not see, and perhaps do not want to see the reality of this picturesque island they are vacationing on. Kincaid writes, [Y]ou needn t let that slightly funny feeling you have from time to time about exploitation, oppression, domination develop into full fledged unease, discomfort; you could ruin your holiday (10). This widespread prevalence comes with the ability to manifest market power and influence buying decisions on a new, much larger scale. This essay will analyse in what ways new technologies have impacted the purchasing habits of the public, their effects on the consumer decision making process and how, if at all, marketers can utilise these new technologies in their favour and influence consumers preferences. Purchasing behaviour varies depending on factors such as time available for deliberation and decision making, the involvement in the purchase and the number of options and alternatives. Despite the exact process adopted being unknown, there is a standard known as the consumer decision making process, or CDP that many purchases follow. The first step is need recognition, or becoming aware of a problem that can be solved by purchasing a certain product. These can be functional needs, serving as a solution to a physical problem (such as refuelling a vehicle), or alternatively fulfil emotional needs, including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Early Life Stages Of Aging Essay Aging is a biological process by gradual deterioration of the physiological functions and metabolic processes. (Hilaire Bakala et al 2012) Exposure to stressful situations during early life can have intense health consequences and is impaired throughout life. However some cases of this impact do not become evident until much later in life or decades later, when the individuals begin to show signs of accelerated ageing. (Katherine A. et al 2014). While understanding the relationship between early life and longevity has important implications in the field of aging, we have still little information about the mechanisms involved in the prolonged times scales of stress aging. A stress can stimulate various pathways leading to increased production of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) it is well known that are highly reactive and capable of damaged many biological macro molecules such as DNA, RNA, Proteins, and Lipids (Govinda Rao 1989; Tian et al 1998). The accumulation of oxidative damaged molecules may cause genetic mutation and cellular senescence (Tian et al 1998). • 45. Factors Influencing The Performance Of Bank s... Confirmatory factor analysis: Confirmatory factor analysis is a type of structural equation modeling that deals specifically with measurement models, that is, the relationship between observed measures or indicators and latent variables or factors (Brown, 2015). In this paper, the method of factor analysis is used to calculate the performance of bank s comprehensive management. Factor analysis method is used to reduce the dimension of the method, named as a multivariate statistical analysis method. It is integrated into a small number of factors, in order to reproduce the original variables and the relationship between the factors, and then each component to a certain weight in order to calculate the comprehensive score. • 47. Gargoyles Research Paper Gargoyles were defining elements of the Gothic period, constructed primarily by Elliot Viollet Le Duc in the 19th century as part of a restoration project of the Notre Dame Cathedral. Gargoyles served as a political commentary of the times, and a functional purpose of protecting the Cathedral. The most iconic gargoyle, the Pensive Demon, sits atop Notre Dame Cathedral s South tower. This statue is actually a chimera, not a gargoyle, since it isn t functional to the building and is purely decor. Also referred to as the Melancholy Demon or Le Stryge, which according to mythology, is a half woman, half bird demon that seeks to harm children, found prominently in cemeteries . Le Stryge was made in the 19th century during which time a hierarchy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the middle ages, gargoyles were the subject of pagan and demonic conversation , but for Viollet le Duc they represented salvation, protection, and the soul of the building. Gargoyles that sat near the great bells provided amplification of sound when they went off, an important function that told citizens when to awake or pray . Viollet le Duc was appalled at the actions of the rebels that recklessly tore down the old gargoyles and replaced them with lead pipes, which proved ineffective and caused significant water damage to the cathedral. Gargoyles served a very important purpose of steering water out of the cathedral along with being artistically sound. While researching, Viollet le Duc realized how useful it is to multiply gargoyles in masses so that the drainage system would be perfected. Limestone was a material that could be cut into long, thin shapes and would further accentuate decorative qualities of the gargoyles, along with helping to anchor the building and provide extra support . Viollet le Duc insisted on proving the gargoyles functionality to a point of absurdity. He created gargoyles that held pots to further steer water away. He also formulated canopies for the gargoyles, during a time where canopies were reserved for saints and holy purposes. Viollet le Duc either found his gargoyles to be sacred, or he was further making fun of religion and its symbolism and his distaste for it . All of these elements prove a point that Viollet le Duc s main goal was preservation of the structure after restoration, and he found gargoyles to be the most modern and functional elements of its gothic ... • 48. Essay On The Red Wheelbarrow In William Carlos Williams 1923 poem, Red Wheelbarrow , the answers to the questions associated with the undescribed imagery are not important. Instead, simple imagery is utilized to describe a simplistic scene in which, so much depends / upon , leaving the reader to answer that question. (Williams, 1923, p. 563, lines 1 2). The Red Wheelbarrow therefore, is devoted to a single image, the image of a red wheelbarrow. Utilizing only sixteen words, the Red Wheelbarrow breaks the traditional boundaries between ideas or items with its rather consistent lines. Furthermore, this poem lacks any punctuation and proper grammar, yielding the idea that the stanzas never essentially begin or end (Kirszner, Mandell, 2017). Without proper punctuation, the lines run together, with no breaks or differentiation between a stanza and a couplet. Moreover, that the lines themselves appear to create a unity within themselves because each focuses on a single element. An example is that the wheelbarrow, the rain water, and the chickens are all grouped together (Williams, 1923). Therefore, without punctuation, the lines are not connected, which leaves element connected to the other through the statement because so much depends on ... Therefore, as the chickens associate the wheelbarrow to the farm, the color white further substantiates humility when associated with hard labor and abuse. Furthermore, the fact that the white chickens remain beside of the wheelbarrow during or following a gentle rain, reminds the reader that although tough times might persist, there is always someone or something to wade through the storm with you (Williams, 1923).
