Technology Threatens Your Privacy Essay example
Privacy threats are currently the biggest threat to National Security today. The threats are not only
concerning to the government, however. An alarming 92% of Americans are concerned that the power
grid may be vulnerable to a cyber attack (Denholm). Although this is a more recent development to
the cyber threats we have experienced, this is not the first time that privacy threats have stepped into
the limelight as people are forced to watch their every online move.
There are twelve major ways technology threatens your online policy today. The first of these threats
is phishing. According to Riva Richmond, phishing is a ploy to gain personal information that will
help people to steal your identity. Hackers will send you fake e mails that ... Show more content on

This makes you vulnerable as you just shared very personal information with everyone on the internet
(Richmond).
The history of your web use may not be a big deal to you but it reveals a ton of information. It reveals
everything you have ever searched which means people can find out things like where you bank,
work, and go to school. Targeted advertising and cookies also are a threat to privacy because
companies collect a lot of information about us in order to figure out what we are likely to buy, and to
place their advertisements on our webpages. They get this sensitive information through cookies
which they place on our computers, which allow them to access our personal information. Cloud
computing is also a huge threat because these sites, which often include e mail services, instant
messaging, and document services, do not have security features which protect our privacy and the
confidential things that we don t want other people to view (Richmond).
Electronic medical data has also become a source of concern when it comes to our privacy. Although
the federal government requires that medical data be kept private, it doesn t cover programs like
Google Health or Microsoft s HealthVault in those protection laws which raises the risk of your
medical information being breached. Public Wi Fi isn t exactly keeping our private information safe
either. They often don t encrypt data which makes it easier for hackers to gain access

The Peace Dollar Quotes
V8 Engine The engine represents the theme of teamwork and trust. In the engine it does not matter
how effective each cylinder is independent of the others because if one cylinder is not functioning, the
whole engine will not operate properly. This is similar to the eight rowers working in Joe s boat, they
must learn not just to row well on their own, but to row well as a boat. Joe learns he must trust the
other boys in the boat, so they can work as a boat, instead of individuals. Peace Dollar The Peace
Dollar is an era accurate representation of the theme of class struggle. Class and financial poverty are
frequent visible themes in the book. The most obvious is Joe s lower class background and constant
struggle to find enough money to attend school. Another example is the competitions between ... Show

Joe is abandoned, on more than one occasion, by his father. This leaves him with a desire for a place
to call home, as well as a strong sense of independence. Though he initially approaches rowing with
his desire to remain independent of others, he finds, once he lets his guard down, many of his
teammates are similar to himself. The boathouse and the team become the family and home he never
had. He eventually finds he can even trust them. His new home is not only beneficial to Joe s
emotional health, he also shows improved connection with his teammates on the water. Black Power
Olympic salute This represents the theme of political significance given to sporting events. The book
describes much of the effort by the Nazis to create a positive global image of Germany, through the
olympics. We see the great lengths The Nazis went to in preparation for the games, as well as related
media created to support their political views. We are also told of the great political significance of the
boat s victory against more experienced european teams, as well as the significance of Jesse Owens

Planned Behavior
The Theory of Planned Behavior
The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) predicts an individual s intention to engage in a behavior at a
particular time and place ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract, 2016). It theorizes that
individual behavioral conduct is driven by behavior intentions, where conduct intentions are function
of three determinants: an individual mentality toward behavioral conduct, subjective standards, and
perceived behavioral control ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract, 2016).
Icek Ajzen Theory of Planned Behavior was proposed in 1985 through his article, From Intentions to
Actions: A Theory of Planned Behavior. The theory was developed from the Theory of Reasoned
Action , which was proposed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory consolidates some of the focal concepts in the social and behavior sciences, and it
characterizes these ideas in a way that grants prediction and comprehension of specific behaviors in
specified contexts (Ajzen, 1991). Demeanors toward the conduct, subjective standards with regards to
the behavior, and perceived control over the behavior are typically found to anticipate behavioral
intentions with an increase level of accuracy. Thusly, these intentions, in combination of perceived
behavioral control, can represent an instinctive proportion of discrepancy in behavior (Ajzen,

Why Was Lady Jane Grey
Lady Jane Grey was 16 when she faced the block. Barely having ruled for 9 days she was overthrown
by Queen Mary and forced to resign her title as queen. But what is it that lead her to be overthrown?
Why was she crowned Queen in the first place? As a result because of the countries religious
reformations it is a major point to what lead to Lady Jane s usurpation and her succession battle with
Queen Mary between 1547 1553. Due to that the countries beliefs were split, who would be King
Edward s successor was in everyone s interest especially for the Queen Mary and the Duke of
Northumberland. Because the people of England were on Mary s side it made it harder for who was
the rightful successor which led to a battle for the crown.

She is often seen as a well educated and determined young woman of fierce integrity (Whitlock) and
most importantly she grew up as a strict protestant. Wanting Protestantism to continue and at the same
time to promote his own dynastic line (The British Monarchy Lady Jane Grey ) the Duke of
Northumberland took control of Jane. The Duke of Northumberland was a very powerful man during
that time, he was the regent, president of the Kings council and one of his son s was married to Lady
Jane Grey. A letter was found written by John Banister on May 28th 1553 stating the latest news of the
King s illness. It was then that it was made clear in the letter that the King would not live beyond
autumn. (Bindoff)Knowing this the Duke knew that if the King died he would lose all his power
because Mary was the next in line for the crown. Knowing that Mary was a strict Catholic he began to
persuade Edward to make Mary and Elizabeth illegitimate to the crown and that Lady Jane would be
his successor. The Royal Council agreed and on the 21st June 1553 an act of parliament was signed
(The British Monarchy Mary I )stating that Mary and Elizabeth were illegitimate to the crown and
declared that Jane Grey would be the next in line for the throne. (Cavendish) This was the final step
that had led to Lady Jane becoming the next

One Out Of Many By Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul
A cultural encounter is the interaction of one or more culture with another culture. Culture encounter
is not only a condition related to nationality or ethnicity, but it could also be an interaction between
two members of any two groups with different norms, such as children and adults, or men and women.
The interactions of people from different cultures require the understanding and respect of people s
beliefs, the way they live life and to discover new things about their world and cultures. However,
culture encounter could result in some conflicts, for example, the difference between cultures and how
it could be hard to adapt to a new culture. It could also result in racism and fundamentalism. These
kinds of conflicts happened in the short story One Out of Many by the famous writer Sir Vidiadhar
Surajprased Naipaul. The cultural encounter in this story will be highlighted by exploring the story,
the main protagonist s struggles and how the author used the narrative structure to convey the meaning
of freedom.

Hazing Essay
Hazing
Hazing is one of the fastest rising problems in America. Hazing has caused many deaths and
psychological problems to its victims. Hazing humiliates, and degrades individuals. People have heard
of hazing recently due to the deaths of many kids and teenagers. Hazing used to be thought of as
harmless and was considered to be harmless pranks with college students in fraternities. Today, hazing
is experienced by boys/men and girls/women in school groups, university organizations, athletic
teams, the military, and other social and professional organizations.

activities which are not consistent with fraternal law, ritual or policy or the regulations and policies of
the educational institution.
Hazing has often been thought to exist primarily in fraternities and sororities; many people are starting
to realize the pervasiveness of these harmful rituals. In fact, a recent study by Alfred University and
the NCAA found that approximately 80% of college athletes had been subjected to some form of
hazing. This total comes to more than 250,000 athletes during the 1998 99 school year alone. Half
were required to participate in drinking contests or alcohol related initiations while two thirds were
subjected to humiliating hazing. The majority of hazing occurs during the initiations to club sports and

Andrew Jackson Heroism
Andrew Jackson said, Your government has at last yielded to the impulse of the nation ... the hour of
national vengeance is now at hand. The eternal enemies of American prosperity are once again to be
taught to respect your rights, after having been compelled to feel, once more, the power of your arms.
Andrew Jackson yearning to engage with Britain during the War of 1812 as noted in the above when
Jackson called for volunteers to serve in the second division of the Tennessee militia. After, the
accomplished defeat of the Creek Indians March 27,1814 by the United States forces and Indian allies
under Major General Andrew Jackson. The Battle of New Orleans was a significant battle that took
place during the time period of 1812. While the majority of the bloodshed lasted about thirty minutes
it resulted in destruction for the British whose goal was to gain access to other territories along the
Mississippi River. The root cause of the battle began several months in advance. The decisions that
were made by leaders of the British military as well as the Americans being under Andrew Jacksons
invigorating leadership ended up putting Jackson s troops in an encounter with the British army. The
American triumph elevated Andrew Jackson to a status of heroism, giving rise to what is known as
Jackson Democracy. Britain wanted to enable trade with the entire American south. Andrew Jackson is

Equality Of Women In The Military Essay
Ninety percent of all military occupations in the military include all genders, but the top ten percent of
roles are excluded to women. Women have already felt the misogyny with unequal pay and unfair
treatment by men, now women have to face the discrimination for fighting for our country. Women
should be able to serve in the front lines because it makes the military stronger as a whole with more
diversity, women in other countries fight on the front lines and women have made significant
contributions in the military so far. Women being included in the military make for a stronger and

In striving to be as physically fit as male colleagues, many women hurt themselves and thus limiting
their military roles all together. But it s flatly rooted in the fact women biologically are not able to
perform physically to the same level as men. (Davis) The standards of physical fitness have been best
suit to men, and women attempting to reach them [men s physical fitness] will over stretch
themselves. (IDEA) These two sources both convey that women do not have the physical standards as
men and in trying to reach the biologically impossible standards, women often out do themselves.
Although women might not be as strong physically, they do offer strong mental capabilities and are
more effective in some circumstances. One source claims: If women can meet the standards as men.
They should be allowed to serve in the infantry. (Michaels, Brook and Welch) Meaning that if women
can withstand the biological factors, then they should be capable of serving in the front lines. Another
source states: There is no issue with a women s intellectual quality or value as a human being. (Davis)
This author is claiming that there is no reason why women should not be able to serve in the military
and that women, as a whole unit, should be valued as human beings that have the opportunity to serve
in combat roles if they

The Bauhaus Of Bauhaus School
The Bauhaus School merged fine arts with applied arts and industrial production to change the way in
which graphic and industrial designers approached ideas of ornamentation, beauty and functionality.
With his manifesto; The final goal of all artistic activity is architecture Bauhaus founder, Gropius,
focused primarily on functionality, rejecting the extravagance of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Political, social and economic factors all influenced the new egalitarian or utopian approach to design,
which embraced the machine aesthetic of the first quarter of the 20th century and resulted in a socialist
or democratised approach to design. These modernist designers, trained at the Bauhaus School, felt
strongly that beauty in design was not a consequence of ornamentation or decoration but could result
directly from design principles such as form, colour and texture. As previous design sought to adhere
to traditional values, reforming to modern progression became desired became a desired trait in
design.
The Bauhaus School, founded in Germany by architect Walter Gropius in 1919, was initially a school
of Arts and Crafts. The Arts and Crafts movement, associated with rich ornamentation and exotic
materials sought to unite artists and craftspeople to ensure the survival of beautiful craftsmanship post
industrialisation. Gropius wanted to take this further by engaging technology in this process. However,
at a time of political turmoil and economic hardship excessive design

There were areas of artificial barriers in the old system of product development and research. What
Yamada is trying to attempt is to focus the groups into one area, create accountability, and speed up
the process similar to what happens in the small biotech firms. Where Yamada had difficulties was the
performance of the CEDD in the first 18 months, and possibly the buy in from the CEDD leadership.
While some of this is because of bad legacy products from the heritage organizations some was also to
the CEDD leadership leaving the organization. This is not unlike the case study of Kodak and the
leadership backing at new product development. Leadership accountability comes with buy in to the
development process. Lack of defining structure in genetic research and discovery research in this

Strengths:
Harness Talent Allows the research scientist to be vested in the development of new drugs and

Focus development The products are developed by the CEDD and the artificial barriers of product

In The Canterbury Tales Prologue, Chaucer characterizes the Knight as a gentle, humble and worthy

of knights in the medieval times. This implies that Chaucer was explicitly mocking the knights. He

Psychology In Nazi Germany
The Nazis believed that people were not equal. To them, some individuals were not worthy of basic
human rights or even life itself, because of their identity. Jews, Roma, People with Disabilities and
homosexuals were all considered less human and therefore were targets of Nazi murder. Before these
killings began, the Nazis enlisted medical professionals to euthanize people with disabilities. The Nazi
Euthanasia Program was, in fact, intentional killings of thousands of people with disabilities without

German scientists. Some patients were taken to see if their eye color could change to blue by scraping
of some of the eye, which only harmed the person (Nazi Medicine: In the Shadow of the Reich). Most
of the people who were experimented on were used until they died. These people were viewed as
objects that were very much expendable. Even more people were sterilized by Nazi doctors whether or
not they themselves were disabled. Sterilization is to deprive of the power of reproducing by removing
or harming the sexual reproductive organs of a person (Merriam Webster). Countless people were
forced to be sterilized; some were even unknowing of their sterilization. These people were targeted

As of current, there is a lack of viable in vitro models that accurately model ovarian cancer tumor
metastasis and growth. The purpose of this research is to develop a viable 3D hydrogel that enables
the ovarian cancer cell environment to be effectively modeled in vitro. The goal is to develop a 3D
hydrogel scaffold that properly models the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of the in
vivo environment. These properties include but are not limited to: vascularization, cell migration,
cytokine signaling, metastasis, and chemosensitivity of cancer cells. By adequately modeling ovarian
cancer metastasis in vitro, the proposed scaffold will allow for more precise screening of drug efficacy
prior to usage in in vivo studies. To quantify whether or not the model is accurate, mechanical,
cytokine signaling, and drug efficacy tests will be carried out and evaluated to determine if the
proposed 3D hydrogel scaffold is suitable as a viable in vitro representation of ovarian cancer cell
environment. Thus, in the long term, this 3D hydrogel scaffold can be used in personalized medicine
and can determine the drug efficacy on a patient s own cancer cells as a precursor to chemotherapy
treatment.

Dna And Pyrimidines
DNA is a double helix structure which helps to keep the structure of the molecule stable. DNA has a
phosphate sugar back bone and covalent bond which also help with the stability of the DNA. DNA
also has coiling which is also very helpful with the stability of the molecule. DNA has two types of
bases, these are known as purines and pyrimidines. Purines are adenine and guanine and the
pyrimidines are thymine and cytosine. Purines are double ringed structures whereas pyrimidines are a
single ring structure. Adenine is complementary to thymine and cytosine is complementary to guanine.
Due to the different complementary base pairings within the two groups it allows information to be
transcribed. In between the different bases there is hydrogen

Characteristics Of Magnet Schools
Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system remains
slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that attend magnet
schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a better academic
option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify all of the
characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an inadequate quality
of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet schools, but
unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white children are
prioritized.
Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these magnet
schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white children,
again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like the magnet
school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly accredited. On the
contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school is their one and only
opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and yet, these children are the
ones on the waitlist.
Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes
them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well due
to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and planetarium in
the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the children, but it
demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two black children that
diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different skin tone. Integration
aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the solution for a myriad of societal
issues. In the establishment of magnet schools, the existing diversity exemplifies symbolic
interactionism between the children. Through their interactions, each student is

Differences Between Two Languages Based On The Languages
Summary The main aim of this report is to highlight differences between two languages based on the
program developed for both the languages. A reader writer program was created in two languages, i.e.
JAVA and PYTHON. The program creates 4 threads each of which performs 5 read/write operations to
the shared location. These threads simulate a coin flip. If the coin flip results in Heads (H) Reading
from the shared location is performed and if the coin flip results in Tails (T) Writing to the shared
memory location is performed. To achieve this concurrency and parallel programming, Semaphores
and Monitor is used. Based on the output of the programs, two languages are then differentiate based
on certain given comparison and evaluation criteria and concluded which of the two chosen languages
is better for concurrency and simultaneously programming. Keywords: Semaphore, Monitor, Reader
Writer, Concurrency, Thread. 1. Introduction Concurrency and Parallel programming in Computer
Science, refers to act of performing several computations simultaneously by interacting with each
other and using the same memory location to perform various operations. Reader Writer is a common
example of concurrency and parallel programming. In this problem, multiple threads access the same
memory location at any given time. Two or more threads can read from the shared location at the same
time, but same cannot be said for the writer. When a writer thread is writing, no other thread, whether

Teen Messaging Influence On Teens
It s a well known fact that adolescents adore messaging. Overviews indicate it has turned into their
favored type of correspondence, with youths sending and getting a normal of 167 writings for every
day. The greater part of the discourses encompassing messaging and adolescents have concentrated on
the impact messaging has on social aptitudes and up close and personal social collaborations, and
additionally it being a risky diversion while driving. However, another examination recommends that
while messaging turns into a urgent propensity, it can hurt teenagers scholastically. This affiliation,
notwithstanding, was just found in young ladies. It creates the impression that it is the enthusiastic
idea of messaging, as opposed to sheer recurrence, that is dangerous, lead analyst Kelly M. Lister
Landman, PhD, of Delaware District Junior college, said in an announcement. Enthusiastic messaging
is more mind boggling than recurrence of messaging. It includes attempting and neglecting to reduce
messaging, getting to be noticeably protective when tested about the conduct, and feeling disappointed
when one can t do it. Lister Landman and her partners reviewed 403 understudies in grades eight and
11 out of a semi rural town in the Midwest. The scientists planned a scale measuring urgent messaging
by asking understudies questions like: How regularly do you find that you message longer than you
proposed? How frequently do you check your writings previously accomplishing

Use of Time in Waiting for Godot and Mrs. Dalloway Essay
American writer, historian, and philosopher, Will Durant once said So the story of man runs in a
dreary circle, because he is not yet master of the earth that holds him. The earth or concept, rather, that
holds man in a dreary cycle in this case is Time because it is an important concept. Time in literature is
important to understand because it seems to play such a vital role of texts and helps the reader
understand them better. Not only that, time can also be seen as an underlying theme that is significant
because it questions and influences the structure of the story including the characters actions,
dialogues, or story s plot, setting, etc. Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot and Virginia Woolf s Mrs.

Mrs. Dalloway written by Virginia Woolf is about the fictional life of a character by the name of
Clarrisa Dalloway, who is seen to be this high class woman living in an era after the war, who is
preparing for a party that she is to be hosting later on. Virginia Woolf seemed to use time as a main
part of the setting of her story too by setting it in the morning and ending the next day at three in the
morning. Using time like this is significant because then now the reader must really pay attention
since every detail seems important. For example when characters reflect on past incidents that
happened in their lives and then the story suddenly turns back into the present and in reality of the
story a few minutes have only gone by. An example of that is when Clarrisa reflects her youth, What a
lark! What a plunge! For so it had always seemed to her, when, with a little squeak of the hinges,

Monster s Ball By Marc Forster
Directed by Marc Forster, the 2001 film, Monster s Ball is an Academy Award winning film which has
been extensively criticized by American Studies scholars. They critique the aspects of the social
construction of masculinity, race, and the way in which women are constructed as needing men in
their lives. Essentially, the film s narrative uses hypermasculinity in a way that supports the
sexulization of women. Monster s Ball follows the life of two individuals who are connected in a
unique way. Leticia Musgrove, a black woman whose husband was killed on death row along with
Hank Grotowski, the officer who executed Leticia s husband are the main characters of the film.
Leticia works the night shift at a diner and she lives an unfortunate life. Her house is foreclosed upon,
her car is broken and she is a single mother. Hank is racist man who was raised by his racist father.
Hank has a son, Sonny, who he tries to infringe racist view upon. Sonny is not racist and he kills
himself at the beginning of the movie because he knows his father hates him. Leticia serves Hank at
the diner very often. On a rainy night, Leticia s son got hit by a car while they are walking back home.
By chance, Hank is there to save the day and bring Leticia s son and her to the hospital, where he dies.
One day at the diner, Hank tells Leticia that his son died too. That comment sparked them to develop a
very sexual relationship. Over time, Hank finds out who Leticia is and realized he killed her

Epistemological Violence Summary
In the first article by Thomas Teo called Epistemological Violence he talks about this concept called
Epistemological Violence which he states the concept is using empirical evidence in either research
articles, books, chapters to imply that one group is inferior or a problem group despite their being
better explanations available. This concept angers me because I know it has been used and still very
might be still be used today to claimed outrageous claims that whites are the superior race because
they rigged or spun the experiment to make it seem this way. For instance, a lot of people claim that
African Americans are the problem group that is why they live in the worst neighborhoods, uses
drugs, teen pregnancy, poor education, gang activity so when a test comes between a white male and a
black male the white does better they can say by nature whites are smarter and they can so call back
up their claim with their study. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason why whites do better than blacks in education is because the whites have had a lot more
opportunities and a better environment to learn and better themselves. Furthermore, as for drug use
and gang activity when their family cannot afford to pay the bills and live day to day they must figure
out ways to survive legal or not and to protect themselves or have likeminded people support them
they will resort to gang activity because the police will not do anything. Lastly the reason they lived in
the worst or on the outskirts of the city is two reasons the first reason is that most likely that area is the
only area they can afford to live in and the second reason is that the people in power might have
intentionally raise prices in an area to kick out the unwanted races and to have the desired race or

Louis C. Tiffany established his own firm in 1885 and his focus was on new methods of glass
manufacture. Although Louis Comfort Tiffany s company is best known by the name of Tiffany
Studios, his vast creative enterprise operated under various names through the years. ( Tiffany Studios
). Among these names are Tiffany Glass Company, Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, Allied
Arts and the most recognizable, Tiffany Studios. Tiffany wanted to transform and transcend the skills
of Medieval stained glass producers. In 1881, Tiffany registered a patent for opalescent window glass.
This new treatment was accomplished by combing and manipulating several colors to created a range
of hues and dimensional effects. Tiffany believed that this new method allowed for more nature in the
medium because it enabled the light to transform the glass rather than painting on the glass. Tiffany
believed that nature should be the primary focus of artwork, fitting within the Art Nouveau style. This
way of creating the art allowed nature to play a key part in the artwork through light. Tiffany s stained
glass windows were displayed in a number of different buildings ranging from chapels, to homes, to
even the White House. In addition to his famous stained glass, Tiffany was also known for his Favrile

iridescence and magnificent colors. Tiffany had a number of his pieces displayed around the world,
including being sold in galleries such as Siegried Bing s L Art Nouveau. In the United States Tiffany
created a chapel interior for the World s Columbian Exposition of 1893. Visitors entered another world
of intricate, reflective glass mosaic surfaces and light filtered through the intense colors of stained
glass windows a world that enveloped them and at the same time dwarfed them through its massive

Questions On Faults And Degradation

$mathcal{Q}={q_1,q_2,q_3}={mathrm{OK},mathrm{FAULTY},mathrm{BROKEN}}$ item
$n(q_1)=n(q_2)=n(q_3)=1$ end{itemize} The modes signalize the faults of the system, with $q_1$
being the faultless mode, $q_2$ denoting a fault in the system that compromises its operation and
finally $q_3$ denoting completely broken system that is incapable of operating at all. The continuous
state $x$ denotes the degradation level of the equipment and can have any value from interval
$[0,100]$. The outputs will be observed degradation level and observed mode. Thus the observation
vector will be a two element vector $y=(y_1,y_2)$ with $y_1in,[0,100]$ meaning an observed

Homeless College Students
Do you know the reason why so many college students in the United States are currently homeless?
As of the moment there are thousands of college students roaming around the streets, due to not
having the necessary resources they need. Now days, it is common for a college student to be left
homeless, be evicted, thrown out their homes, or found living in a abandoned buildings which isn t
suitable as a living environment. These students don t have the available funds to be able to pay for
somewhere to live in or know when their next meal will be. Every college student in order to be
successful needs a safe environment that they can call home and get there regular nutrients.
It is often said, that for a student to actually be able to excel in their studies. They must have a proper
nutritional diet, a place to rest and work on their studies. Yet, there is currently 14% of all college
students living among the United States without a home. It is most commonly due to rent being so
expensive that students cannot simply afford. Which later leads to some of these students who are
facing financial trouble to become homeless. Which not only leaves the student without a home, but
vulnerable to many other factors. For example, infection diseases, unsafe conditions, to even bad
weather which can all affect the health of a student. In today s society when people think about a

Comparison Of Warren Prior And Richard Cory
Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and Warren Prior by Alden Nowlan are both poems
which discuss the unhappiness people tend to hide about themselves. In these poems, irony is used to
show how each persona is deeply unsatisfied with the circumstances they face although appearing
different to their peers. To begin with, Richard Cory is about a man named Richard Cory who is
notorious for being wealthy and seemingly has the type of lifestyle others would envy. However, what
was seen on the surface was deceiving, because at the end of the poem we learn that Cory commits
suicide. Likewise, Warren Prior is about a male who grew up on a farm where his parents worked

In both poems, we see irony used as a device to bring emphasis to the theme of the poem. For
example, in Richard Cory the townsfolk absolutely adored Cory, and [they] wished [they] were in his

However, they were not aware of the true feelings Cory carried as they focused on materialistic
properties rather than personality traits. Thus, being a case of situational irony as most would expect

Argumentative Essay On Guns On Campus
Guns on campus?
Would school shootings be reduced if guns were allowed on college campus or would it make more
school shootings. Not very many people believe that guns were allowed to be carried around with
them throughout the day let alone a school campus, surprising adults and staff at colleges students are
allowed to have guns on college campuses in Georgia and Arkansas. Some people on these college
campuses feel that they need a gun to put a hold on school shooters or just for defending themselves.
But others feel that it jeopardizes the campus. It makes them feel in more insecure because the
students do not know who may have a gun on campus which makes students frightened to just be on
campus. With that information guns on college grounds is a controversial topic because some people
feel the need to protect themselves by having a gun on campus and others feel the need to leave the
guns and weapons to the authorities by not having guns on campuses.
One reason why guns should be legalized on a college campus is for protecting yourself and you other
peers. There is an argument going on whether or not guns should be considered on campus. In
Georgia, guns are allowed on campus and a few people state their opinion on this controversial topic.

Leadership management is one of the most essential facets in our current generation and those to
come. Exceptional leadership and management skills have the capacity of successfully carrying a
company from one stage of development to the next, which synchronizes aspects of technology and
adequate research. The leadership and management skills exhibited by iconic leaders are worth
emulating because their names are noted throughout history due to their important roles in the
development of our country. This paper critically draws the examples of the leadership styles of one of
the United States most recognized leaders Abraham Lincoln.

The quality of leadership that incorporates visions shared by the majority and inculcation of dialogue
in the achievement of goals and objectives were such attributes perfected by Abraham Lincoln (White,
2009). Though a superb speaker, Abraham Lincoln s powers in implementing the strategies that he
mentioned to the populace he was a say and do type of a person which is a requirement for any
specific leader, be it in a family or company.
Principles to adopt in my leadership style.
The thoughts projected and targets created must be free from corruption. Leadership and management
works best when resources and opportunities are not channeled to the direction of a select few
individuals for the purpose of gaining undue favor in comparison to the rest. The balance of leadership
is in giving back to the society, a mindset that tunes leadership as a chance of making for oneself is
often misconstrued. Leadership is a responsibility that affects society at large in terms of development,
quality of life and future aspirations. That being said, I would ensure that as a executive, I would
refrain from all corrupt dealings that would increase chances of failure for my company. This meaning
the organization and my leadership skills must be transparent in regards to the operations.
Recruitment, audit, planning and research teams must be transparent to avoid the fatalities that may
arise as a result of failing to adhere

The Power Of Flattery In King Lear
In the year 1605, the oldest daughter of an elderly man claimed her father was senile and no longer
could make decisions on his own. This daughter believed she should be able to take over his estate.
The younger daughter named Cordell defended her father s sanity and protected her father s estate and
dignity. This sad situation was becoming an issue in 17th Century Britain. This occurrence could have
been the model for one of Shakespeare s most famous plays, King Lear. Shakespeare s play King Lear
showcases the difference between true love and devotion and the destructive power of false words of
love and flattery.
In the beginning of King Lear, we see the cast of main characters King Lear and his three daughters
Cordelia, Goneril, and Regan having a big discussion. King Lear askes his daughters who loves him
the most, whoever can put in words who loves him the most gets most of his lands, wealth and
authority. While Goneril and Regan give lofty exaggerated words on their loves for their father,
Cordelia remains silent. Cordelia refuses to answer the question, this shocks and angers King Lear
since Cordelia is his favorite daughter. The king in his anger disowns Cordelia and sends her off to be
married to the king of France without any dowry. He then divides his kingdom between the two
daughters who flattered him, Goneril and Regan. Brian Sheerin in his article, Making Use of Nothing:
The Sovereignties of King Lear states, King Lear receives nothing for his potlatch, and

Socrates Unexamined Life
As a perfectionist, I grew up ignoring my imperfections, mistakes, and failures. I didn t just want
perfection: I needed it. A red slash on a test or a mistake marked an absolute failure. Because I hid
from past mistakes, I never learned from them, making me incapable of growth. I excused my
mistakes and humbly boasted my overall score. I convinced myself that I never actually made a
mistake, so I never learned the information that I had previously missed, thus leading to more errors to
hide. Finally, after years of insisting upon infallibility, I realized it was a problem. Consequently, I
chose to answer the question What s wrong with being wrong? for a project sophomore year. After
months of research on historical leaders, I finally concluded that mistakes and failures are
opportunities to learn and improve. Without error, you will never recognize a need for change and
therefore, you will never improve. Socrates was correct in saying The unexamined life is not worth
living. Life is characterized by the ability to continually change; therefore, by not evaluating your life,

Everyone demands perennial improvement along with perfection; however, perfection eliminates the
possibility of improvement. Upon contemplation of these common expectations, it is evident that they
are illogical, unattainable, and therefore defeating. Analyzing life consequently enables a fuller,
happier life. Many argue that an unhappy life is not worth living, providing further support to Socrates
notion. Additionally, Karl Marx concluded that socialism would bring the end of history because there
would be no more struggle, which is what prompted the progression of history. Hence, without need
for change, there is no reason to live. In conclusion, change gives life purpose by way of propelling
movement over

Annotated Bibliography: Distribution is the Key to Solving World Hunger
Bratspies, Rebecca M. Food Technology and Hunger. Law, Culture and the Humanities, vol.10, no. 2,
Nov. 2012, pp. 212 224., doi:10.1177/1743872112456990.
This is a comprehensive article that discusses the history and true issues causing food insecurity and
hunger. It states that the world already has great enough production to feed the entire world,
disproving the claim that genetic modification technology will end hunger. Little information is
provided regarding author Rebecca Bratspies, though the articles says she is associated with the
Columbia University New York School of Law. The source of the article is Law, Culture and the
Humanities produced by SAGE Publications. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She talks about how hunger should not be a problem in the 21st century, humans have the resources
right now to end hunger. Josette Sheeran was the leader of the World Food Program for the United
Nations, and previously was involved in economics. The TED Institute is an organization that utilizes
conference style talks as tools for learning. This video was published in 2011, it is approximately 7
years old. It contains some bias, considering that eliminating hunger was part of Sheeran s job, but it
also contains source work from Lancet and The World Food Bank. It is a reliable source, because it
provides clear facts and evidence for its claim. This source will benefit my paper by providing
extensive information about a working method of food distribution in school food

10 Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the assembly; and David said: Blessed are You, Lord

Essay about Ibn Battuta
Ibn Battuta s remarks of his travels say a great deal about his own culture and norms. Almost every
place he travels to he brings up women and how they are treated, as well as what their status is in that
society. He is also very amused with the décor of the buildings in terms of gold and silver decorations.
It seems as though he does not come from a wealthy society or his family is not on the wealthy status
level. Battuta also seems to bring up the cleanliness of each area he travels to. Ibn Battuta s travels to
Africa showed a lot about how he was brought up and also about his culture. He describes the
occupants of the town of Zayla as negro people and when he arrives in the town of Kulwa he describes
the Zanj people as jet black ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Sultan soon passes away and the reign is taken over by his brother who is the polar opposite of
the former ruler. I feel as though this is hearsay and not a direct observation since a mere traveler
wouldn t have such close encounters.
While traveling to India, Battuta notes the inaccessible mountains that are inhabited by Hindu infidels
but are mostly under Muslim rule. The others seem to be rebels who seem to be outcasts that may
have been banished possibly by the Muslims. Again Battuta brings up a woman who he observes
richly dressed followed by both Muslims and infidels. These men accompanying her were the chiefs
of the Hindus. He seems to be surprised with women having any kind of social status or wealth.
Battuta finds one of their death rituals interesting and seems very intrigued by this practice. The
practice involves the burning of a wife after her husband dies. After the widow burns herself, the
widow s family does gain a certain stature and does gain a reputation for fidelity. However, a widow
that does not perform this practice must dress in crude garments and must live with her own people in
misery and is despised for her lack of fidelity. Battuta also is interested in another death practice that
involves the Indians. This is the practice of drowning themselves in the River Ganges. After they die,
the body is burned and the ashes are taken into the river.
Battuta doesn t seem to agree with the King s eagerness to kill. He makes it a point to explain

Himachal Pradesh: History and Geography
Pre History amp; Early History
The history of Himachal Pradesh dates back to around two million years. At this point of time, people
lived in the foothills of Himachal Pradesh. These original inhabitants of Himachal, the Kols and the
Mundas, were forced by the people of the great Indus valley civilization to move up to the hills. The
Indus valley civilization prospered here between 2250 and 1750 BC. The second wave of migrants to
the state saw Mongoloid, like Bhota and Kiratas coming in. However, the most important lot of people
entered the area only afterwards in the third wave of migration. These were Aryans from Central Asia.

But even at the end of the first Anglo Sikh war, these rulers did not get back their kingdom (which was
taken over by the Sikhs).
The British Period amp; Struggle For Independence
The revolt of the 1857 did not see much participation from the people of the hill. They preferred to
stay away from the revolt and infact some of the rulers even extended help to the Britishers. Few
exceptions here included the ruler of Bushahr.
Between the year 1858 and 1914, the hill states of Chamba, Mandi and Bilaspur prospered under the
British rule and even supported the latter during the first world war. The important states that
contributed their men and money for the first world war included Kangra, Siba, Nurpur, Chamba,
Suket, Mandi and Bilaspur. After 1914, things began to change and the people came out to participate
in the freedom movement of India.
Post Independence
Himachal Pradesh became a part C state on 26th January 1950 and a Union Territory on 1st
November, 1956. In between, Bilaspur was made a part of it in 1950. Kangra and other hill states were
merged into the Union territory of Himachal Pradesh in the year 1966. Finally, four years later, in
1970, through the the State of Himachal Pradesh Act, Himachal Pradesh became the eighteenth state
of India.

Joh John R. Wooden s Analysis
In the notes it describes communitas as a group of people sharing common cultural practices, values,
and/or identities (Bustad, lecture, 2017). This relates back to sport and physical activity because
although each individual player may live in different locations than another, when they come together
for this one sport and act as a team, they share the same values of the game. They also share the same
type of identity when playing on the same team or involved in the same physical activity as another
individual.
John R. Wooden was an American basketball player coach and teacher. He taught philosophy which
highly influenced his coaching style. Wooden created the Pyramid of Success, which took him
seventeen years to fully construct. The pyramid works as building blocks, each row acts as a
foundation for the one above it. Wooden s pyramid of success consists of: industriousness, friendship,
loyalty, cooperation and enthusiasm in the first row. The second row has: self control, alertness,
initiative, and intentness. Following this in the next row is: condition, skill, and team spirit. The two
blocks above that row are: poise and confidence and the top block of the pyramid is competitive
greatness. In order to fulfill the top block you must complete the steps below it (Perez, 2014). ... Show

He would choose a mediocre player with a great attitude to play on his team, rather than a protégé
basketball player with a sour attitude (Perez, 2014). This can be incorporated with the term

beliefs and interests. The sport aspect of communitas can also be related to gemeinschaft and

  • 2. Technology Threatens Your Privacy Essay example Privacy threats are currently the biggest threat to National Security today. The threats are not only concerning to the government, however. An alarming 92% of Americans are concerned that the power grid may be vulnerable to a cyber attack (Denholm). Although this is a more recent development to the cyber threats we have experienced, this is not the first time that privacy threats have stepped into the limelight as people are forced to watch their every online move. There are twelve major ways technology threatens your online policy today. The first of these threats is phishing. According to Riva Richmond, phishing is a ploy to gain personal information that will help people to steal your identity. Hackers will send you fake e mails that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This makes you vulnerable as you just shared very personal information with everyone on the internet (Richmond). The history of your web use may not be a big deal to you but it reveals a ton of information. It reveals everything you have ever searched which means people can find out things like where you bank, work, and go to school. Targeted advertising and cookies also are a threat to privacy because companies collect a lot of information about us in order to figure out what we are likely to buy, and to place their advertisements on our webpages. They get this sensitive information through cookies which they place on our computers, which allow them to access our personal information. Cloud computing is also a huge threat because these sites, which often include e mail services, instant messaging, and document services, do not have security features which protect our privacy and the confidential things that we don t want other people to view (Richmond). Electronic medical data has also become a source of concern when it comes to our privacy. Although the federal government requires that medical data be kept private, it doesn t cover programs like Google Health or Microsoft s HealthVault in those protection laws which raises the risk of your medical information being breached. Public Wi Fi isn t exactly keeping our private information safe either. They often don t encrypt data which makes it easier for hackers to gain access ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Peace Dollar Quotes V8 Engine The engine represents the theme of teamwork and trust. In the engine it does not matter how effective each cylinder is independent of the others because if one cylinder is not functioning, the whole engine will not operate properly. This is similar to the eight rowers working in Joe s boat, they must learn not just to row well on their own, but to row well as a boat. Joe learns he must trust the other boys in the boat, so they can work as a boat, instead of individuals. The boathouse and the team become the family and home he never had. He eventually finds he can even trust them. His new home is not only beneficial to Joe s emotional health, he also shows improved connection with his teammates on the water. Black Power Olympic salute This represents the theme of political significance given to sporting events. The book describes much of the effort by the Nazis to create a positive global image of Germany, through the olympics. We see the great lengths The Nazis went to in preparation for the games, as well as related media created to support their political views. • 4. Planned Behavior The Theory of Planned Behavior The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) predicts an individual s intention to engage in a behavior at a particular time and place ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Abstract, 2016). It theorizes that individual behavioral conduct is driven by behavior intentions, where conduct intentions are function of three determinants: an individual mentality toward behavioral conduct, subjective standards, and perceived behavioral control ( Summary of theory of planned behavior. Culture encounter is not only a condition related to nationality or ethnicity, but it could also be an interaction between two members of any two groups with different norms, such as children and adults, or men and women. The interactions of people from different cultures require the understanding and respect of people s beliefs, the way they live life and to discover new things about their world and cultures. With his manifesto; The final goal of all artistic activity is architecture Bauhaus founder, Gropius, focused primarily on functionality, rejecting the extravagance of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Political, social and economic factors all influenced the new egalitarian or utopian approach to design, which embraced the machine aesthetic of the first quarter of the 20th century and resulted in a socialist or democratised approach to design. These modernist designers, trained at the Bauhaus School, felt strongly that beauty in design was not a consequence of ornamentation or decoration but could result directly from design principles such as form, colour and texture. As previous design sought to adhere to traditional values, reforming to modern progression became desired became a desired trait in design. The Bauhaus School, founded in Germany by architect Walter Gropius in 1919, was initially a school of Arts and Crafts. There were areas of artificial barriers in the old system of product development and research. What Yamada is trying to attempt is to focus the groups into one area, create accountability, and speed up the process similar to what happens in the small biotech firms. While some of this is because of bad legacy products from the heritage organizations some was also to the CEDD leadership leaving the organization. This is not unlike the case study of Kodak and the leadership backing at new product development. Leadership accountability comes with buy in to the development process. • 17. Canterbury Tales Research Paper According to the video The Study of English, Chaucer was the first writer to consciously use English to write his poems, even though he knew Latin and French, which were considered superior to English (Macneil, MacCrum, and Cran). He was an inspector in the London wool wharf, a busy job that only allowed him to write at night (Strohm). Chaucer decided to exile himself after being punished for letting corrupt collectors do as they pleased (Strohm). Chaucer s exile prompted him to create what is The Canterbury Tales; the creation of an audience that replaced his small [,] responsive and [personally selected group] back home (Strohm). Chaucer creates an audience of various people of different social class and functions. I would argue that Chaucer addresses or brings to our attention the cruel reality of the medieval world. In The Canterbury Tales Prologue, Chaucer characterizes the Knight as a gentle, humble and worthy man, who loved chivalry, truth, honour, freedom and all courtesy (1). This is the contrary perception of knights in the medieval times. This implies that Chaucer was explicitly mocking the knights. He was confronting their corrupt behavior by describing the code of conduct which they did not keep or respect. As of current, there is a lack of viable in vitro models that accurately model ovarian cancer tumor metastasis and growth. The purpose of this research is to develop a viable 3D hydrogel that enables the ovarian cancer cell environment to be effectively modeled in vitro. The goal is to develop a 3D hydrogel scaffold that properly models the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of the in vivo environment. These properties include but are not limited to: vascularization, cell migration, cytokine signaling, metastasis, and chemosensitivity of cancer cells. By adequately modeling ovarian cancer metastasis in vitro, the proposed scaffold will allow for more precise screening of drug efficacy prior to usage in in vivo studies. To quantify whether or not the model is accurate, mechanical, cytokine signaling, and drug efficacy tests will be carried out and evaluated to determine if the proposed 3D hydrogel scaffold is suitable as a viable in vitro representation of ovarian cancer cell environment. Thus, in the long term, this 3D hydrogel scaffold can be used in personalized medicine and can determine the drug efficacy on a patient s own cancer cells as a precursor to chemotherapy treatment. • 25. Characteristics Of Magnet Schools Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system remains slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that attend magnet schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a better academic option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify all of the characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an inadequate quality of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet schools, but unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white children are prioritized. Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these magnet schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white children, again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like the magnet school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly accredited. On the contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school is their one and only opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and yet, these children are the ones on the waitlist. Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well due to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and planetarium in the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the children, but it demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two black children that diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different skin tone. Integration aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the solution for a myriad of societal issues. Differences Between Two Languages Based On The Languages Summary The main aim of this report is to highlight differences between two languages based on the program developed for both the languages. A reader writer program was created in two languages, i.e. JAVA and PYTHON. The program creates 4 threads each of which performs 5 read/write operations to the shared location. These threads simulate a coin flip. If the coin flip results in Heads (H) Reading from the shared location is performed and if the coin flip results in Tails (T) Writing to the shared memory location is performed. To achieve this concurrency and parallel programming, Semaphores and Monitor is used. Based on the output of the programs, two languages are then differentiate based on certain given comparison and evaluation criteria and concluded which of the two chosen languages is better for concurrency and simultaneously programming. Keywords: Semaphore, Monitor, Reader Writer, Concurrency, Thread. 1. Introduction Concurrency and Parallel programming in Computer Science, refers to act of performing several computations simultaneously by interacting with each other and using the same memory location to perform various operations. Reader Writer is a common example of concurrency and parallel programming. In this problem, multiple threads access the same memory location at any given time. Overviews indicate it has turned into their favored type of correspondence, with youths sending and getting a normal of 167 writings for every day. The greater part of the discourses encompassing messaging and adolescents have concentrated on the impact messaging has on social aptitudes and up close and personal social collaborations, and additionally it being a risky diversion while driving. However, another examination recommends that while messaging turns into a urgent propensity, it can hurt teenagers scholastically. This affiliation, notwithstanding, was just found in young ladies. It creates the impression that it is the enthusiastic idea of messaging, as opposed to sheer recurrence, that is dangerous, lead analyst Kelly M. Lister Landman, PhD, of Delaware District Junior college, said in an announcement. Enthusiastic messaging is more mind boggling than recurrence of messaging. It includes attempting and neglecting to reduce messaging, getting to be noticeably protective when tested about the conduct, and feeling disappointed when one can t do it. Lister Landman and her partners reviewed 403 understudies in grades eight and 11 out of a semi rural town in the Midwest. Virginia Woolf seemed to use time as a main part of the setting of her story too by setting it in the morning and ending the next day at three in the morning. Using time like this is significant because then now the reader must really pay attention since every detail seems important. For example when characters reflect on past incidents that happened in their lives and then the story suddenly turns back into the present and in reality of the story a few minutes have only gone by. The continuous state $x$ denotes the degradation level of the equipment and can have any value from interval $[0,100]$. The outputs will be observed degradation level and observed mode. Thus the observation vector will be a two element vector $y=(y_1,y_2)$ with $y_1in,[0,100]$ meaning an observed (estimated) level of degradation, e.g. from computing some key performance indicator (KPI) from sensor measurements. The $y_2in{mathrm{OK},mathrm{FAULTY},mathrm{BROKEN}}$ is again observed (or estimated) mode, e.g. from some fault detection engine in place which itself aggregates and transforms sensor readings into this one discrete signal. The outputs are subject to sensor noise etc., so they do not perfectly correlate with the true system state. • 39. Comparison Of Warren Prior And Richard Cory Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and Warren Prior by Alden Nowlan are both poems which discuss the unhappiness people tend to hide about themselves. In these poems, irony is used to show how each persona is deeply unsatisfied with the circumstances they face although appearing different to their peers. To begin with, Richard Cory is about a man named Richard Cory who is notorious for being wealthy and seemingly has the type of lifestyle others would envy. However, what was seen on the surface was deceiving, because at the end of the poem we learn that Cory commits suicide. Likewise, Warren Prior is about a male who grew up on a farm where his parents worked extremely hard in order to be able to afford an education for their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both poems, we see irony used as a device to bring emphasis to the theme of the poem. For example, in Richard Cory the townsfolk absolutely adored Cory, and [they] wished [they] were in his place. But, this was due to the fact that the townsfolk only viewed the exterior of Cory and saw that he was clean favoured. As well, the townsfolk were well aware that Cory was richer than a king. However, they were not aware of the true feelings Cory carried as they focused on materialistic properties rather than personality traits. Thus, being a case of situational irony as most would expect someone with great wealth to be content with their life. Moving on, in Warren Pryor irony is shown within the son s relationship with his parents. The parents of the son grew up poor on a farm and simply wanted a better life for their son, so they worked extremely hard to send him to school and free him from the stony fields. Despite the great efforts the parents went through to watch their son receive an education, the son himself was throttled [with] rage. • 42. The Power Of Flattery In King Lear In the year 1605, the oldest daughter of an elderly man claimed her father was senile and no longer could make decisions on his own. This daughter believed she should be able to take over his estate. The younger daughter named Cordell defended her father s sanity and protected her father s estate and dignity. This sad situation was becoming an issue in 17th Century Britain. This occurrence could have been the model for one of Shakespeare s most famous plays, King Lear. Shakespeare s play King Lear showcases the difference between true love and devotion and the destructive power of false words of love and flattery. In the beginning of King Lear, we see the cast of main characters King Lear and his three daughters Cordelia, Goneril, and Regan having a big discussion. King Lear askes his daughters who loves him the most, whoever can put in words who loves him the most gets most of his lands, wealth and authority. While Goneril and Regan give lofty exaggerated words on their loves for their father, Cordelia remains silent. Cordelia refuses to answer the question, this shocks and angers King Lear since Cordelia is his favorite daughter. The king in his anger disowns Cordelia and sends her off to be married to the king of France without any dowry. He then divides his kingdom between the two daughters who flattered him, Goneril and Regan. • 43. Socrates Unexamined Life As a perfectionist, I grew up ignoring my imperfections, mistakes, and failures. I didn t just want perfection: I needed it. A red slash on a test or a mistake marked an absolute failure. Because I hid from past mistakes, I never learned from them, making me incapable of growth. I excused my mistakes and humbly boasted my overall score. I convinced myself that I never actually made a mistake, so I never learned the information that I had previously missed, thus leading to more errors to hide. Finally, after years of insisting upon infallibility, I realized it was a problem. Consequently, I chose to answer the question What s wrong with being wrong? for a project sophomore year. After months of research on historical leaders, I finally concluded that mistakes and failures are opportunities to learn and improve. Without error, you will never recognize a need for change and therefore, you will never improve. Socrates was correct in saying The unexamined life is not worth living. Almost every place he travels to he brings up women and how they are treated, as well as what their status is in that society. He is also very amused with the décor of the buildings in terms of gold and silver decorations. It seems as though he does not come from a wealthy society or his family is not on the wealthy status level. Battuta also seems to bring up the cleanliness of each area he travels to. The Sultan soon passes away and the reign is taken over by his brother who is the polar opposite of the former ruler. I feel as though this is hearsay and not a direct observation since a mere traveler wouldn t have such close encounters. While traveling to India, Battuta notes the inaccessible mountains that are inhabited by Hindu infidels but are mostly under Muslim rule. The others seem to be rebels who seem to be outcasts that may have been banished possibly by the Muslims. Again Battuta brings up a woman who he observes richly dressed followed by both Muslims and infidels. These men accompanying her were the chiefs of the Hindus. He seems to be surprised with women having any kind of social status or wealth. Battuta finds one of their death rituals interesting and seems very intrigued by this practice. The practice involves the burning of a wife after her husband dies. After the widow burns herself, the widow s family does gain a certain stature and does gain a reputation for fidelity. However, a widow that does not perform this practice must dress in crude garments and must live with her own people in misery and is despised for her lack of fidelity. Battuta also is interested in another death practice that involves the Indians. This is the practice of drowning themselves in the River Ganges. After they die, the body is burned and the ashes are taken into the river. Battuta doesn t seem to agree with the King s eagerness to kill. He makes it a point to explain ... This relates back to sport and physical activity because although each individual player may live in different locations than another, when they come together for this one sport and act as a team, they share the same values of the game. They also share the same type of identity when playing on the same team or involved in the same physical activity as another individual. John R. Wooden was an American basketball player coach and teacher. He taught philosophy which highly influenced his coaching style. Wooden created the Pyramid of Success, which took him seventeen years to fully construct. The pyramid works as building blocks, each row acts as a foundation for the one above it. Wooden s pyramid of success consists of: industriousness, friendship, loyalty, cooperation and enthusiasm in the first row. The second row has: self control, alertness, initiative, and intentness. Following this in the next row is: condition, skill, and team spirit. The two blocks above that row are: poise and confidence and the top block of the pyramid is competitive greatness.
