This document summarizes findings from a study conducted by Dr. Graham Walton and Liz Waller on bring-your-own-device (BYOD) technology use at the University of York and Loughborough University libraries. The study found that laptops, tablets, and smartphones were commonly used devices, with laptops being used more for academic purposes and smartphones more for social media. It also found that most students agreed they could access required software and a computer when needed. A SCONUL survey of 23 libraries found that the number of technology-enabled study spaces increased significantly from 2009-2012 as libraries equipped more spaces with wireless access and power outlets to support BYOD.
