*Future of loon
PrOjEct LOON
*Connect all people in internet
*Connect people in rural and
remote areas
*Bring people in online after
disaster
HIStOrY OF LOON
*Began in june 2013 with experimentalpilot in
newzealand
*Now it is going on research in california central
valley
*Goal of establishing a uninterrupted
connectivity
*So pilot tester at this latitude continuous
service via balloon power internet
How loon works
*Loon floats in stratosphere as twice the height
of aeroplanes
*Stratosphere affected by wind
*Loons go there needed rising or descending into
layer of wind blowing in desired direction
*People connect to loon network using special
internet antennae attached to buildind
*Signal bounce from this antennae up to loon
network & down to global internet on earth
ConstruCtion of loon
*Inflatable part loon called balloon envelope well made
loons is critical for allowing balloon 100days in
stratosphere
*Inflatable part is designed by raven aerestas
*Loon envelope made up of sheets of polyethylene
plastic& they are 12 meter tall and 15 meter wide
Balloon contains:
Each ballon have small box weightening
10kgs
It contains circuit boards,radio
antennae,networks antennae & batteries to
store solar power
Balloon uses solar energy for its power supply
Solar batteries store 100watt of power and it
utilized at night time.
How loon connected
*When the loon taken out of service, gas
is released from envelope to bring loon
down to earth
*In likely event that loon drops too
quickly ,a parachute attached to top of
envelope is deployed
*Each loon provide connectivity to
ground area about 40km speeds
comparable to 3G
*Loon currently uses ISM
bands(specified 2.4-5.8GHZ bands)
WALL STREET JOURNAL
This journal told it is difficult to heap balloon
in one place in case of heavy wind
This balloons also knockingout power lines
in washington during testing
FUtURe oF loon
June 2014 google tested its balloon powered
internet access venture in brazil marketing its
first LTE experiment near equator
PRoblems in loon
*Plane was crashing when loons
are landing after completing its
service
*But google provides helicopters to
overview the landing of loons in
testing areas
THANK YOU
