Project Loon is a Google initiative that aims to provide internet access to rural and remote areas using high-altitude balloons placed in the stratosphere. The balloons travel around 20 km above the Earth's surface, powered by solar panels and floating on winds between 5-20 mph. Each balloon can provide internet connectivity to an area about 40 km in diameter using radio antennas to connect to other balloons and ground stations. The goal is to deliver internet speeds comparable to 3G to unconnected populations around the world and help with education, healthcare, and collaboration.
