Bioethical And Political Issues Essay
Identifying Bioethical and Political Issues
Scenario 1: You are the healthcare administrator of a nursing home. You are informed by your
Admissions Director that a new memory impaired resident has been admitted into your long term
care unit. The staff is concerned about the involvement of family with your resident. Family
members from out of town arrived and expressed concern about your resident s do not resuscitate
(DNR) orders which were authorized by the Power of Attorney of another family member. A
quarrel erupts in the nursing home with family members voicing their opinions loudly. You arrive
on the scene and are immediately told by the visiting family member, Do you know who I am? I
am a supervisor for the Department of Health and Human Services and will not hesitate to have
your facility surveyed for noncompliance. What do you do?
Any situation that erupts which can disturb the other residents is something that must be diffused
immediately, as a healthcare administrator I would have to address this state of affairs with
empathy and genuine concern for the opinions of the family members not in agreement with the
do not resuscitate (DNR) order. First, I would ask that we move to a private location where we
could speak and if voices are elevated it would not interfere with the day to day operation of the
nursing home. Second, I would ask to see the Power of Attorney if it is available to speak to the
legality of the document. Provided that, all the previous terms set in place are up to par, I would
directly talk about the statement made about the family member making me aware of her position
with the Department of Health and Human Services. Moreover, going through the document to
point out the date signed, to make note if the new resident signed it before here memory was too
far gone and if the Power of Attorney would not be substantial. Then I d call attention to the
difference between a Power of Attorney and Durable Power of Attorney. Grammarly states, The
biggest difference is in when the power ends. A general power of attorney ends when a person
becomes mentally incapable because of sickness or injury to handle his or her own affairs... To get
a durable power of attorney, you must show in the

Autonomous Vehicle Deontology
I would choose Deontology for the programming of the autonomous vehicles. Deontology refers to
moral philosophies that focus on the rights of the individuals and on the intentions associated with
a particular behavior rather than its consequences. (Ferrell, et al, 2013, p.159). Why some other life
should be taken by the actions of the autonomous vehicle. The rights of the individuals in the video
in the other lanes would take preference over the autonomous vehicles rights. Since, the
autonomous vehicle would be programmed to not break the law and speed and follow safe
following procedures; the vehicle should be able to withstand the impact. However, even if the
impact is fatal, I believe the rights of the others in the vehicle should

A Comparison Of Popular Music In The 1980s
The music world had many changes in 1975. Tony was not really a fan of popular music. His
preferences strayed from the pop to the bands he had enjoyed in past years: Traffic, Eric
Clapton, Blind Faith, Beck, Bogert Appice; Jefferson Airplane (renamed to Jefferson Starship);
Steely Dan; King Crimson. Bob Marley and the Wailers became one of his favorite bands that year.
Though he still enjoyed Fleetwood Mac, Tony lamented the addition of Stevie Nicks, whom he
called a whiner who could not sing, and the departure of Bob Welch. Tony s favorite movies from
1975: Barry Lyndon (He was a HUGE fan of Stanley Kubrick.); A Boy and His Dog (This is a

The play opens with the two guards witnessing the ghost of the late king one night on the castle
wall in Elsinore. The king at present is the brother of the late king, we find out that king Claudius
has married his brother s wife and thus is having an incestuous relationship with her. We also learn
that Claudius has plans to stop the Norwegian invasion from the north. Hamlet, the son of the late
king is unhappy about his mother s marriage to his uncle and is still mourning the death of his
father. Hamlet has become withdrawn and depressed and wants to return to his studies in

Fie on t! ah fie! tis an unweeded garden, That grows to seed; things rank and gross in nature
Possess it merely. That it should come to this!
Hamlet is saying that the whole of Denmark is corrupt and bad and that if these weeds are not dug
up they will go to seed and spread more corruption around Denmark. Throughout the play
Shakespeare has a gardening theme written into it this reinforces the idea that Denmark is an
unweeded garden.
But two months dead: nay, not so much, not two: So excellent a king; that was, to this, Hyperion to
a satyr; so loving to my mother
Hamlet really loves his father he is his idol and hero and Shakespeare shows this in this part of
the soliloquy. He compares his father to Hyperion the Titan, the son of Gaea and Uranus and the
father of Helios of Greek mythology. He also says that his father a hyperion compared to satyr so
he is even better than a satyr.

Harvey Milk Thesis Statement
Due to the increasingly negative view of homosexuality in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s, the
LGBTQ community was facing a world altering decision; they could either shrink into the
background, and allow the world to continue to draw its opinions based on speculation, or claim
the spotlight and allow themselves to be judged based on their own merit. Harvey Milk, the first
openly gay elected official in the United States (Hope Speech, Commentary) saw a need for an
uprising of the latter. When addressing a crowd of his supporters and the Lesbian, Gay, Bi
Sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) people in The Hope Speech at San Francisco City Hall
on Gay Freedom Day in 1978, Harvey Milk uses the I You/Us Them relationships as defined by
Martin Buber, pathos appeals, and shared experiences to establish an emotional bond with the
LGBTQ community. This relationship of comradery and mentorship, deeply rooted in shared
values, best prepared the crowd to absorb his message of activism and hope. Harvey Milk,
though he had known since high school that he was gay (Biography), was initially outwardly
ambivalent to legislation passed against the LGBTQ community. This all changed after he
befriended a group of gay radicals in his mid forties. They propelled him into the politically
charged world of activism, in which he developed his voice, and stood out as a leader in the
LGBTQ community. Milk stood on the steps of the San Francisco s City Hall to celebrate Gay
Freedom, but also to

Stephen Curry And Lebron James Research Paper
Stephen Curry and LeBron James, two legends in the NBA. These two hold one of the biggest
fan rivalries in NBA history. So this essay will be breaking down the details that you need to know
about them both. Some people find S. Curry better by things he s done, but for L. James most don t
have as many reasons on why he is better. LeBron James, also know as the King in the NBA. He
has been phenomenal during his NBA career. He is 32 and is position is SF (Small Forward).

He is 28 and was drafted in the NBA in 2009. Currently he is playing for the Golden State
Warriors. Curry weighs 190 lbs, he s 6,3 and plays the Point guard position, a little different than
LeBron. He has beat Russell Westbrook in a skillz test bye a whole ten seconds. One of his most
shocking records is that he s made 12 threes in a single game, which is the NBA record. Plus
Steph has broken his own record and made 270 threes in a single season. Then he thought that
he could do better and changed that to 407, which is more than what the whole Suns team made
in 1997! At the moment Steph only has one championship ring that he won in 2015, but he still
has many more years for him to play in the NBA. Briefly both Stephen Curry and LeBron James
are undefeatable players in the NBA . By the looks of is it S.Curry has his ways of being better
than Lebron. Things such as shooting, ball control, and has a better vision of the court than him.
Then Lebron has his ways of being better as well, by dunking contested layups athleticism, and
sense he s taller and weighs more he has a better advantage when it comes to defense. Even

Analysis Of Mud By Maria Irene Fornes
Mud (1983) is one of Maria Irene Fornes s best plays. Like Fefu and her Friends, it is set in the
preindustrial society (Savaran 2012, 56); the incidents take place in a small unnamed rural town in
the 1930s when feminism was not firmly established, and women were struggling to get their
rights. The play revolves around three characters, Mae, the only femalecharacter in the play, and
two male characters, Lloyd, her illiterate foster brother and former boyfriend, and Henry, her
neighbour and new boyfriend. The society in which Mae lives is a patriarchal one where she was
previously dominated by her father and later by Lloyd. In such a society women are considered
subordinate to and of lower rank than men. They are looked upon as... Show more content on

Explaining her relationship with Lloyd to Henry, Mae says: He [Lloyd] has always been here since
he was little. My dad brought him in. He said that Lloyd was kind and that he would keep me
company. He said he was old and tired [...]. My dad was good but he was sad and hopeless and
when my mom died he went to hell with himself. He got sick and died and he left Lloyd here
[...]. I don t know what we are. We are related but I don t know what to call it. We are not brother
and sister. We are like animals who grow up and mate. (Fornes, Mud 1986, 28)
Both Mae and Lloyd suffer from poverty. However, Lloyd is careless; he mindlessly looks after
their pig and farms the land. He is highly dependent on Mae; besides, he is satisfied with his own
status. On the other hand, Mae toils in ironing clothes in order to support herself and Lloyd; she is
the sole breadwinner of the family. Additionally, she prepares food. Mae is unsatisfied with her
own conditions; she yearns to improve herself and her life, and plans to escape from the sexual and
economic exploitation of Lloyd. She is aware that her aspirations can be achieved through
education. Consequently, she attends literacy classes at a school; she as Mala Renganathan
expresses it, dreams of educating herself and making herself literate (2010, 8). Lloyd is entirely
unlike Mae, he is not eager to learn and improve himself;

The Great Depression in Alex Kershaw s The Bedford Boys
Bedford Boys 1. How did the Great Depression affect the town of Bedford before the war? What
programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many
of the men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United
States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many
others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily
based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the
people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often
foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores
of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was
possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst
years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the
Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and
took whatever jobs were available. People s pride and vanity soon vanished when it became
apparent that the alternative was starvation and destitution. With the administration of Franklin
Delano Roosevelt and the implementation of the New Deal works projects, things became better
for many people in Bedford and throughout the nation. One of the potential job opportunities for

The Overpricing Of College In Today s Society
In today s society, college is shown to be a necessity for the majority of the population. College
has become a priority in children s lives once they enter middle school. Many get to the point that
college is no longer a dream, just another part of their everyday duty. As you get to the point of
attending to college, one has so much to worry about. For example, Destination, room assignment,
global standardized testing, and so much more. However, the real issue that majority
undergraduates face is the overpricing of college, along with the other essentials that accompany
the expense of attending college. Being unable to afford college can become a problem within
itself, resulting in failing different classes, leading to personal issues motivating

Strategic Direction And Global Security Environment
Joint Force 2025 must be capable of addressing emerging threats by conducting globally integrated
operations across all domains in support of the elements of national power. Therefore, the
Department of Defense (DOD) needs to rebalance and transition several general capabilities in
order for Joint Force 2025 to address emerging threats to U.S. national interests. The services must
invest in systems that maintain strategic deterrence, infrastructure that supports power projection
and operational concepts that advance wide spectrum operations in order to support diplomacy and
national security.
This essay will begin with providing a brief synopsis of the strategic documents, which form the
guidance used to analyze and develop Joint Force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chapter takes the national objectives outlined in the National Security Strategy (ends)
combined with operational concepts outlined in the NMS (ways) and balances them against
available resources (means) and risk. Finally, the CCJO outlines a globally integrated operations
concept for Joint Force 2025, along with force development implications and risks within the
context of the future global security environment.
Based on current resources and predicted security environment Joint Force 2025 should focus on
the following capabilities. The Army and Marines should extend the service life of certain weapons
capabilities while enhancing integrated air missile defense, in addition to combat vehicle
improvements and purchases. The Navy should enhance surface and sub surface systems and
operations, increase the lethality of the surface fleet and develop redundant communication and
navigation systems. The Air Force should extend the service life of certain weapons capabilities,
enhance unmanned aerial systems and operations and modernize its nuclear force. The Army and
Marines face a rapidly changing operational environment, requiring difficult decisions on how to
allocate limited resources to address emerging capabilities and remain a relevant element of
national power. While there is no way to predict exactly what capabilities they will need in the
future, history indicates that land forces will be

Catapulting though Time Physics Essay
Catapulting though Time Physics
Hurling an object towards one s enemy may seem as old as time itself. People have hurled fists at
each other, thrown spears, and launched giant rocks into enemy territory. The use of catapults, and
other objects that hurl projectiles, also seem as old as human civilization itself. The effectiveness
of the catapult in flinging objects over a great distance and causing destruction is due to a few
basic physics principals that govern force, energy, motion, speed and mass to name a few. The
design of the catapult denotes a change in modern warfare to the engineer behind weapons being
just as important as the actual soldiers and people who use them.
Projectile throwing machines are found in three main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can look at the catapult as a lever which is meant to change direction and/or multiply the
force that is applied to the projectile. A lever has three locations: the fulcrum, on which the lever
arm rotates; the load, where the mass is located on the lever arm; and the effort, where the force,
a push or pull, is applied (Vogel 178). It is meant to throw an object a certain horizontal distance
in a certain, short time frame so that its impact would be greater than just a human hurling a giant
rock at a building. We might intrinsically know this. Probably no mechanical device is older than
the lever; simple and versatile, it s no doubt older than we humans, mentions Steve Vogel in Cat s
Paws and Catapults (Vogel 178). If a larger kid jumps from a tree onto a seesaw with a smaller
child will be launched into the air. The physics principals that govern the catapult also govern force,
mass, speed and acceleration, rotational motion, and projectile motion. From these principals we
find out what the optimum projectile mass, lever arm length, time, and launch angle which would
produce optimum speed, impact, and horizontal distance traveled by the projectile.
Speeding up or slowing down anything that has mass takes force, according to Vogel and this
means force must be applied to the projectile (Vogel 198). Force, merely a push or pull, is applied
to the effort of the lever and is mass times acceleration, which we can

Vendor familiarity, technical capability and financial business stability would also be determined
by performing a cost benefit analysis. Meeting delivery, flexibility, quality and reliability, fair
price, familiarity, and financial and business stability are all reflected in vendor cost and would be
reflected in the cost benefit analysis and will aid in the vendor selection process. Request for
information is the phase in the project where vendor information is requested. A request for
information may include information such as rates, experience, and relevant reasons for the
vendor s application. A request for information or RIF is a good way to establish the vendor s
communication ability with potential clients. Electronic Health Records systems are very reliant
and dependent on quality data and communication. If a vendor cannot provide or omits requested
information, such vendor should not be considered as a resource to develop the EHR system
necessary for the hospital and ambulatory care facilities project. Request for information does not
require financial information and is very broad in scope. For financial information, a Request for

Assess the Debates About Whether or Not Reality Television...
This essay will assess the debate on whether or not reality television is becoming more like a form
of tabloidization; whether, reality TV has shifted from to entertaining the audience rather than
educating the audience. John Corner believes that television has greatly expanded its range of
images, depicting more of the real . He added that the shift in reality TV has employed factual
programming, such as an increase in documentaries. On the other hand, Richard Kilborn believes
that reality TV is a simulation of real life events through various forms of dramatic reconstruction...

The screening of these comments resulted in international media coverage. Like tabloids the stories

Tabloid has particular elements of reality TV as it draws on the staple ingredients of tabloid
journalism, such as the interplay between ordinary people and celebrities, or information and
entertainment (Hill, 15). The Jerry Springer Show is defined as a tabloid talk show when
dysfunctional families share their problems whilst the audience try to help them resolve their
situation. Reality TV programmes tend to use ordinary people; this enhances reality, because it
depicts real people with real problems, problems that are actually occurring in society. This can

Tabloidization is increasing becoming a word associated with news coverage, with stories printed
that are not seen as newsworthy rather much superficial . There is a big difference with between

Westward expansions of the united states molded and affected the nations advancement socially,

politically because the Mexican were racially religiously superior. Westward expansion between
1800 and 1860 affected American culture in a few ways. One effect was that it enabled American

A Study Of Ja Biosynthesis
The study of JA biosynthesis in both dicots and monocots revealed that phospholipids such as
linolenic (18:2) and О± linolenic (18:3) acid are released from chloroplast membranes through the
action of phospholipases. In the subsequent steps formation of hydroperoxy octadecadienoic acids
(e.g., 13S HPODE and 9S HPODE) occurs through dioxygenation. These steps are catalyzed by
lipoxygenases (LOXs; 9 LOX and 13 LOX). In futher steps HPODEs are converted to 12 oxo
phytodienoic acid (12 OPDA) in plastids, catalyzed first by allene oxide synthase (AOS; EC
4.2.1.92) and subsequently by allene oxide cyclase (AOC; EC 5.3.99.6). 12 oxo phytodienoic acid
is then reduced to JA via the action of 12 OPDA reductase (OPR; EC 1.3.1.42) followed by three
cycles of пЃў oxidation in the peroxisome (Lyons et al., 2013). Jasmonic acid is also metabolized

Discuss the Relationship Between Sexual Selection and...
There are many theories that try to explain relationships between sexual selection and human
reproductive behaviour. Evolutionary theory is one such theory. There are many different species
in the world which, according to Darwin, all came from one source, e.g. a bacteria or organism.
Within each species, natural variation occurs, therefore the individual beings within the specie look
different from one another. These differences are caused by genetic makeup (50% from your mum,
50% from your dad). There are some genes like down syndrome that get switched on when
combined with other genes. Some genes can also undergo mutation a random change (e.g. being
born with six fingers, instead of five). Most mutations are harmful, for example... Show more

In another study, Langlois and Roggaman (1990) took photos of faces and morphed them
together to produce composite images made up of 4, 8, 16 or 32 images. Participants rated faces
as increasingly attractive the more faces that went into each image; this applied to both male and
female faces. The more faces in an image, the more symmetrical they become, it seems that
moving a facial image closer to the average increases its perceived attractiveness. It is likely that
symmetry equates to fitness and good genes , these people are less likely to have been affected by
harmful mutation. People with attractive faces are preferred because of the benefits of passing on
these attractive characteristics to offspring. Little Hancock propose that humans have evolved to be
attracted to symmetrical faces because they indicate averageness , which equates to genetic health.
Grammar and Thornhill (1994) found that females are attracted to males with masculine
characteristics, for example: large jaw and prominent cheekbones. These features arise as a result of
testosterone, which is also a handicap because it suppresses the immune system. Therefore,
showing only healthy individuals can afford to produce these traits advertising a strong immune
system. Cartwright (2000) supported this, finding men prefer photographs of women with
symmetrical faces and vice versa. Body to hip ratio are indicators of genetic fitness; they form

A Engineer s Responsibility Is Still Vague Of The Top...
Time to wake up
Engineering has been one of the top demand professions of all time. Nevertheless, the awareness of
an engineer s responsibility is still vague in the society. In this concurrent era of technological
revolutions, it has become highly relevant to give a definition to this. The question, whether
engineer should remain within the limitations/ guidelines of the organizations they work for or not
finds high relevancy and importance. There are ongoing strong debates on this matter, with a large
group arguing engineering is a profession, where one has to make his skills ready to be available for
whosoever pays him, as far as that falls within law (Deborah G, 1989). I personally support the

The default assumption in the discussion of morality is that, it is wrong to harm others (Kenneth,
Andrew, Samuel C, 1983). As we say each and every person has the same right to live, it readily
generates a responsibility to not to disturb other s lives. In depth, it automatically conveys the
message, whose action influences the most should be most responsible in their works. This
demands engineers to hold high standards of responsibility and commitment towards the society.
The basic reason for my stance in this thesis is the importance and unique nature of engineering
profession. There are two basic features which differentiates engineering profession. Engineers
come across things and products mostly, rather than direct dealings with individual person.
Furthermore, engineers work as a part of team or collective unlike most of the other profession
(John, 1982). Even though, engineers act in groups, one should remember the fact that one is
being governed doesn t degrade his moral responsibilities. Hence an individual working in a
collective can also be said to possess quantifiable amount of moral responsibility towards the
society, extend of which depends on the position and role he plays in the collective (Albert
Deborah G, 1983). The relevance of this point can be established by exploring a case study of the
deep water gulf oil disaster. Where, the reputed British

Chinese vs Greeks when It Comes to Influence
The culture that had the most impact on the modern world varies on opinion from scholar to
scholar. Most can agree however; that the Chinese and the Greeks had the most influence.
Emphasis should be placed on how Greek culture has spread farther and affected the world in ways
the Chinese was unable to. We can see most roots of modern Western culture
lying within the
Ancient Greek.
Ancient Greece had a very large impact on todays modern world. The Greeks developed many
amazing inventions, and ideals that have shaped our society. The various fields that were advanced
include architecture, democracy, philosophy, science, and social occurrences (arts, sports, etc.). The
Greeks were very traditional in their dwelling structures and established three very prominent
architectural designs that are still used today. These designs include the Doric, Ionic, and
Corinthian styles. The most notable, the Doric style is described by its vertical columns, and the
slightly sloped plain roof. The Ionic and Corinthian styles are more intricate and detailed, being
dominant during their respectable architectural periods. A famous example would be the Parthenon,
the building has withstood the test of time since the 5th century BCE. The style is very notable in
the United States, representing buildings of power or high status, the White House being the most
prominent example. Comparatively the ancient Chinese style of architecture has stayed in the
culture it was brought up in;

Character Analysis Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck sets the scene of his novella, Of Mice and Men, in the Salinas River Valley, a
few miles south of Soledad. The time period of the novella is the 1930 s during the Great
Depression. The Great Depression began in 1929 after the U.S. had a major financial crisis.
People lost all of their money and their homes when the stock market crashed. Many men became
migrant farm workers who would travel from farm to farm, working for just enough money for
food and a few belongings. John Steinbeckgrew up in the Salinas River Valley during the
Depression. In his novella, of Mice and Men, Steinbeck uses the characters Candy, Curley s wife,
and Crooks to prove people will do anything to stop being lonely.

a boxer and wears expensive clothes. His father is the boss on the farm and has a lot of money.
Curley s wife tries to talk to the boys but they don t trust her. She says, Why can t I talk to you? I
never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely (Steinbeck 86). This quote shows that no one ever
tries or wants to talk to her. Curley s wife complains to Lennie about how lonely she is and that
she just wants to talk to people. As the book continues, she explains to Lennie why she never gets
to talk to anyone. She says, You can talk to people, but I can t talk to nobody but Curley. Else he
gets mad (Steinbeck 87). This quote shows that Curley is very controlling over his wife and only
lets her talk to him. Curley s wife talks to Lennie even though he is very intimidating. She is
desperate to talk to anyone so she flirts with Lennie and the other men to get their attention.
Lastly, Steinbeck uses Crooks to show the things people are willing to do to not be lonely. Crooks
is the black crippled stable buck who works on the farm. He is the only black man for miles and has
no one to talk with, or to be his friend. Crooks tells Lennie, A guy needs somebody to be near him

Death Penalty should be implemented again here in the Philippines
People have different opinions and ideas regarding the issue on death penalty. In fact, this death
penalty is still a debatable issue and requires the opinions of people, researchers, and experts.
Mostly people may say that they are not in favor of this penalty for it is cruel. People may say
that death penalty may not be a possible solution for the crimes and injustices happening around us.
But, people got wrong with this idea, with this statement because this death penalty is in fact, a
good and a possible solution for what is happening right now. Death penalty could provide
advantages to us and surely we could really benefit from these advantages.
Death penalty should be implemented again here in the Philippines so that justice will prevail,
there could be an effective way to ban criminals, there could be a suitable punishment, the people

Ritual Dances By Lucile Armstrong
When thinking of dance, most people think about ballet such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, or
even Beauty and the Beast. Dance first started out as a ritual. According to HistoryWorld In most
ancient civilization, dance before the god is an important element in the temple ritual . Ritual
dancing bring men as they celebrate their necessities. These necessities include food, shelter, safety,
and surviving natural disasters. These ritual dances brought the communities together to celebrate
their accomplishments. According to Lucile Armstrong writer of Ritual dances states that The first
section of will deal with ritual dances not using sticks or swords necessarily, but with similar
intent. The second will describe some stick dances. The third section will refer to sword dances, or
dances connected with swords . It is stated that the stick danceis done in the early mornings before
most people are awake. This dance can also be performed in the evening of the 21st and on the eve
of the great day.
There are about ten rituals that are still being performed today. The first dance that is still
performed today is called the Cannibalism and Necrophagy. This ritual dance is found from the
city of Varanasi, India. This dance is about eating the dead, it believed that the greatest fear humans
beings have is the fear of their own deaths. The Indians say that this fear is a barrier to spiritual
enlightenment. The second ritual is the sun dance this is performed by the Native Americans.

National Public Health Performance Standards Program
In 1994 the Core Public Health Functions Steering Committee at the Center for Disease Control
(CDC) released a list of 10 Essential Public Health Services ( The Public Health System, 2014).
This was an essential step towards making established public health organizations accountable and
giving new programs a framework on which to develop from. This list outlines the foundation for
the National Public HealthPerformance Standards Program. The ten essential public healthservices
provide a way to assess the impact of these programs. This paper will explore and analyze case
studies and the essential public health services they represent.
Case One surrounds the issue of water fluoridation. The process of water samples being
submitted for testing each month was described, along with which public health sectors the
results are reported to. Krisberg states that the parameters for water fluoridation levels were first
established in 1962. She also reports that the level of fluoride established at that time was 1.2
milligrams per liter. In 2015 this level was reduced to 0.7 milligrams per liter (Krisberg, 2015).
Many of the ten essential public health services can be seen in the details of the first case study.
The instance described in case one correlates most closely to the sixth essential public health
service to enforce laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety (American Public
Health Association, n.d.). This case study was a prime example of how the public

The Changes Medicare Needs
A number of changes to both state workers compensation laws and the MSPA would eliminate the
problems inherent in the current system. These solutions include modifying state workers
compensation laws to permit the parties to settle only the indemnity portion of the claim in states
that do not already do so, applying the MSPA only to cases in which the primary payer is legally
obligated to pay, instituting a safe harbor threshold amount for settlements, creating a right of appeal
from Medicare s rejection of a settlement proposal, and allowing claimant s to waive their rights to
certain treatments under Medicare. Any one of these changes implemented on its own would be an
improvement, but implementing all of them would create a much fairer system.
A.State Legislative Remedies The Medicare set aside requirement is intended to prevent workers
compensation insurers from shifting the expense of the claimant s future medical treatment to
Medicare. It is therefore only a hindrance to settlement when the settlement is intended to include
compensation for future medical expenses. Some states have enacted workers compensation laws
that permit the settlement of only the indemnity portion of the claim, ending the insurer s liability
for that portion while leaving the medical aspect of the claim open. In such instances, the insurer
remains liable for the claimant s future medical treatment, and there is therefore no potential for
shifting the cost to Medicare. As such, Medicare

Social Anxiety Disorder ( Social Phobia )
Many children are shy and do not speak in the public. However, sometimes parents do not notice
when his/her child s behavior is more than just being shy. If a child is avoiding social interaction or
staying in a quiet place to escape embarrassment, they might be experiencing Social Anxiety
Disorder. Other symptoms of Social AnxietyDisorder are sweating, has a racing heart, has shortness
of breath, or being scared of other people that may be thinking about you being nervous then that
child might be experiencing Social Anxiety Disorder. Social Anxiety Disorder, also known as
Social Phobia, is a disorder that people generally experience when in public. It is a fearof being
judged and interacting with other people. A child who is being shy will speak up in front of the
people within the short amount of the time. However, a child with Social Anxiety Disorder will
take longer than a child that are shy. When children with Social Anxiety Disorder do not receive
treatment or support, the child s disorder can lead them into a challenge with a great effort.
Parents who are uncomfortable in a social situation can show some effectiveness to their child.
The signals for Social Anxiety Disorder can appear in a situation like a birthday party, a
graduation, or any big major life event that requires. The society needs to have an awareness with
this disability because this disorder will relapse, less treatment during the childhood can build up

The Truth behind the Foster Care System Essay
As family structure changes children pay the biggest price. They may lose the luxury of a stable
home or school to call their own, when parent are no longer in the picture either. This is an issue
that is largely ignored by society and most importantly the government. Without the foster system,
children would be left abandoned and forgotten by all. The foster system provides thousands of
homes for foster children each year, with parents that can give them what they need. But, foster care

There is also a lack of foster parents as well, to take in children. As long as the number of foster
parents does not increase, there could be up to six foster children in one home ( All Foster 9). It
should become one of the top priorities to find stable homes for foster children to avoid the
overcrowding. A stable home for foster children is exceedingly critical but the health of foster
children is fundamental as well.
The health of children entering the foster system is very important, but not always stressed.
When entering the foster care system some children enter with health issues, such as
developmental and psychiatric disorders (All Foster par. 3). There could be many reasons why
they enter with these health issues. One could be due to the abuse and neglect many children
encounter while with biological parents (par. 3). While in the care of foster parents, the health of
foster children can be neglected as well (par. 4). Younger foster children do not receive adequate
preventive health care while in placement, many significant problems go undetected, or, when
diagnosed are not evaluated and treated, stated U.S. General Accounting Office (par. 5). (The U.S.
General Accounting Office is an investigative arm for the U.S. Congress.) This is a problem and
can result in death while a child is in care. Between 2000 and 2007, about thirty foster children

Analysis Of Tabula Rasa By Robert Southey
What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice, and everything nice, that s what little girls, are
made of. What are little boys made of? Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails. That s what little
boys are made of . Author: English Poet Robert Southey (1774 1843).
Tabula rasa this is how the educationalist John Locke, (1632) believed children were born, with a
blank slate beginning their lives morally neutral. He also wrote that the little and almost insensible
impressions on our tender infancies have very important and lasting consequences. He argued that
the associations of ideas that one makes when young are more important than those made later
because they are the foundation of the self. Locke, (1632) also argued that because a baby s mind
was so malleable a parent could mould them with careful diligence. However Kohlberg (2004) was
one of the first theorists to address gender as a learned, cognitive concept. His thinking was
influenced by Piaget, who portrayed children as active learners who use interactions with their
environment to construct an understanding of the world around them (Piaget, 1961). Kohlberg
believed that children s cognitive understanding of gender influenced their behaviour (Kohlberg,
1981).
Walking into any new born infant s room you could almost certainly guess the gender of the baby
just from the colour of his or her clothes, blankets, and toys. Any infant surrounded by pink items
is virtually certain to be a girl, whereas a child

Essay on Egyptian Rulers and their Gods
Egyptian Rulers and their Gods The relationship between Egyptian rulers and their gods were ever
present in many examples of Egyptian art throughout the many changes in leadership. The
depictions of these relationships, however, were not always consistent from ruler to ruler, dynasty
to dynasty. The Palette of Narmer, Seated Statue of Khafre, and Akenaten and Nefertit and their
Children are three prime examples of the differences in depiction from one period to another.
The Palette of Narmer, done around 3000 B.C. in the Predynastic Period, depicts King Narmer as
the most important figure of the work. A system of hierarchical proportionsis important to this
piece. Narmer s dominating size and central position on the front ... Show more content on

The upper body is done in a frontal view while the legs and head are done in profile.
With the Seated Statue of Khafre, we see some continuities from the past but also some changes.
The god Horus is again found in this work in an even more protecting role, behind Khafre s head.
We also find standing lions on either side of Khafre s throne guarding the ruler. Both these figures,
like before for Narmer, are use to reinforce Khafre s divine right of kingship. The noticeable
difference between this piece and the Palette of Narmer is the way in which the human form is
done. Khafre is much more naturalistic, although not perfectly (Khafre s kilt and hair are still
stylized). Underlying organic structures such as muscle and bone are depicted. This is in contrast
to the stylized form of Narmer. Also, Khafre is shown in perfect human condition. His body s
proportions and muscle definition are very idealized. His face expresses no emotion. These
qualities are characteristic to sculpture in the Old Kingdom when this piece was done in 2500 B.C.
The small relief, Akhenaten and Nefertiti and their Children, represents unprecedented changes in
the depiction of Egyptian rulers. This piece shows a very naturalistic view of the human body in
that the proportions are not idealized, but it also parallels previous works with the frontal torso and

Kristallnacht During The Holocaust
During World War II, a cruel event called the Holocaust was in effect. The Holocaust was a
genocide of all people deemed inferior by Hitler and the Nazis, mainly the Jews. During the
Holocaust, many different acts of terror took place. This included the pogrom of The Night of
Broken Glass, or Kristallnacht, which actually means Night of Crystal. Kristallnachtwas a violent

  • 2. Bioethical And Political Issues Essay Identifying Bioethical and Political Issues Scenario 1: You are the healthcare administrator of a nursing home. You are informed by your Admissions Director that a new memory impaired resident has been admitted into your long term care unit. The staff is concerned about the involvement of family with your resident. Family members from out of town arrived and expressed concern about your resident s do not resuscitate (DNR) orders which were authorized by the Power of Attorney of another family member. A quarrel erupts in the nursing home with family members voicing their opinions loudly. You arrive on the scene and are immediately told by the visiting family member, Do you know who I am? I am a supervisor for the Department of Health and Human Services and will not hesitate to have your facility surveyed for noncompliance. What do you do? Any situation that erupts which can disturb the other residents is something that must be diffused immediately, as a healthcare administrator I would have to address this state of affairs with empathy and genuine concern for the opinions of the family members not in agreement with the do not resuscitate (DNR) order. First, I would ask that we move to a private location where we could speak and if voices are elevated it would not interfere with the day to day operation of the nursing home. Second, I would ask to see the Power of Attorney if it is available to speak to the legality of the document. Provided that, all the previous terms set in place are up to par, I would directly talk about the statement made about the family member making me aware of her position with the Department of Health and Human Services. Moreover, going through the document to point out the date signed, to make note if the new resident signed it before here memory was too far gone and if the Power of Attorney would not be substantial. Then I d call attention to the difference between a Power of Attorney and Durable Power of Attorney. Grammarly states, The biggest difference is in when the power ends. A general power of attorney ends when a person becomes mentally incapable because of sickness or injury to handle his or her own affairs... To get a durable power of attorney, you must show in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Deontology refers to moral philosophies that focus on the rights of the individuals and on the intentions associated with a particular behavior rather than its consequences. (Ferrell, et al, 2013, p.159). Why some other life should be taken by the actions of the autonomous vehicle. The rights of the individuals in the video in the other lanes would take preference over the autonomous vehicles rights. Since, the autonomous vehicle would be programmed to not break the law and speed and follow safe following procedures; the vehicle should be able to withstand the impact. His preferences strayed from the pop to the bands he had enjoyed in past years: Traffic, Eric Clapton, Blind Faith, Beck, Bogert Appice; Jefferson Airplane (renamed to Jefferson Starship); Steely Dan; King Crimson. Bob Marley and the Wailers became one of his favorite bands that year. Though he still enjoyed Fleetwood Mac, Tony lamented the addition of Stevie Nicks, whom he called a whiner who could not sing, and the departure of Bob Welch. • 6. Harvey Milk Thesis Statement Due to the increasingly negative view of homosexuality in the late 1970 s and early 1980 s, the LGBTQ community was facing a world altering decision; they could either shrink into the background, and allow the world to continue to draw its opinions based on speculation, or claim the spotlight and allow themselves to be judged based on their own merit. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the United States (Hope Speech, Commentary) saw a need for an uprising of the latter. When addressing a crowd of his supporters and the Lesbian, Gay, Bi Sexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) people in The Hope Speech at San Francisco City Hall on Gay Freedom Day in 1978, Harvey Milk uses the I You/Us Them relationships as defined by Martin Buber, pathos appeals, and shared experiences to establish an emotional bond with the LGBTQ community. This relationship of comradery and mentorship, deeply rooted in shared values, best prepared the crowd to absorb his message of activism and hope. Harvey Milk, though he had known since high school that he was gay (Biography), was initially outwardly ambivalent to legislation passed against the LGBTQ community. This all changed after he befriended a group of gay radicals in his mid forties. They propelled him into the politically charged world of activism, in which he developed his voice, and stood out as a leader in the LGBTQ community. Milk stood on the steps of the San Francisco s City Hall to celebrate Gay Freedom, but also to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many of the men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). People have hurled fists at each other, thrown spears, and launched giant rocks into enemy territory. The use of catapults, and other objects that hurl projectiles, also seem as old as human civilization itself. The effectiveness of the catapult in flinging objects over a great distance and causing destruction is due to a few basic physics principals that govern force, energy, motion, speed and mass to name a few. The design of the catapult denotes a change in modern warfare to the engineer behind weapons being just as important as the actual soldiers and people who use them. Projectile throwing machines are found in three main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can look at the catapult as a lever which is meant to change direction and/or multiply the force that is applied to the projectile. A lever has three locations: the fulcrum, on which the lever arm rotates; the load, where the mass is located on the lever arm; and the effort, where the force, a push or pull, is applied (Vogel 178). It is meant to throw an object a certain horizontal distance in a certain, short time frame so that its impact would be greater than just a human hurling a giant rock at a building. We might intrinsically know this. Probably no mechanical device is older than the lever; simple and versatile, it s no doubt older than we humans, mentions Steve Vogel in Cat s Paws and Catapults (Vogel 178). If a larger kid jumps from a tree onto a seesaw with a smaller child will be launched into the air. The physics principals that govern the catapult also govern force, mass, speed and acceleration, rotational motion, and projectile motion. From these principals we find out what the optimum projectile mass, lever arm length, time, and launch angle which would produce optimum speed, impact, and horizontal distance traveled by the projectile. Speeding up or slowing down anything that has mass takes force, according to Vogel and this means force must be applied to the projectile (Vogel 198). • 20. A Study Of Ja Biosynthesis The study of JA biosynthesis in both dicots and monocots revealed that phospholipids such as linolenic (18:2) and О± linolenic (18:3) acid are released from chloroplast membranes through the action of phospholipases. In the subsequent steps formation of hydroperoxy octadecadienoic acids (e.g., 13S HPODE and 9S HPODE) occurs through dioxygenation. These steps are catalyzed by lipoxygenases (LOXs; 9 LOX and 13 LOX). In futher steps HPODEs are converted to 12 oxo phytodienoic acid (12 OPDA) in plastids, catalyzed first by allene oxide synthase (AOS; EC 4.2.1.92) and subsequently by allene oxide cyclase (AOC; EC 5.3.99.6). 12 oxo phytodienoic acid is then reduced to JA via the action of 12 OPDA reductase (OPR; EC 1.3.1.42) followed by three cycles of пЃў oxidation in the peroxisome (Lyons et al., 2013). Jasmonic acid is also metabolized to a variety of products that include the MeJA, amide conjugates with amino acids (JA Ile), conjugates with sugars and hydroxylated and didehydro derivatives (Staswick, 2008). Evolutionary theory is one such theory. There are many different species in the world which, according to Darwin, all came from one source, e.g. a bacteria or organism. Within each species, natural variation occurs, therefore the individual beings within the specie look different from one another. These differences are caused by genetic makeup (50% from your mum, 50% from your dad). There are some genes like down syndrome that get switched on when combined with other genes. Participants rated faces as increasingly attractive the more faces that went into each image; this applied to both male and female faces. The more faces in an image, the more symmetrical they become, it seems that moving a facial image closer to the average increases its perceived attractiveness. It is likely that symmetry equates to fitness and good genes , these people are less likely to have been affected by harmful mutation. People with attractive faces are preferred because of the benefits of passing on these attractive characteristics to offspring. Little Hancock propose that humans have evolved to be attracted to symmetrical faces because they indicate averageness , which equates to genetic health. The question, whether engineer should remain within the limitations/ guidelines of the organizations they work for or not finds high relevancy and importance. There are ongoing strong debates on this matter, with a large group arguing engineering is a profession, where one has to make his skills ready to be available for whosoever pays him, as far as that falls within law (Deborah G, 1989). As we say each and every person has the same right to live, it readily generates a responsibility to not to disturb other s lives. In depth, it automatically conveys the message, whose action influences the most should be most responsible in their works. This demands engineers to hold high standards of responsibility and commitment towards the society. The basic reason for my stance in this thesis is the importance and unique nature of engineering profession. There are two basic features which differentiates engineering profession. Engineers come across things and products mostly, rather than direct dealings with individual person. Furthermore, engineers work as a part of team or collective unlike most of the other profession (John, 1982). This was an essential step towards making established public health organizations accountable and giving new programs a framework on which to develop from. This list outlines the foundation for the National Public HealthPerformance Standards Program. The ten essential public healthservices provide a way to assess the impact of these programs. This paper will explore and analyze case studies and the essential public health services they represent. Case One surrounds the issue of water fluoridation. The process of water samples being submitted for testing each month was described, along with which public health sectors the results are reported to. Krisberg states that the parameters for water fluoridation levels were first established in 1962. She also reports that the level of fluoride established at that time was 1.2 milligrams per liter. • 30. The Changes Medicare Needs A number of changes to both state workers compensation laws and the MSPA would eliminate the problems inherent in the current system. These solutions include modifying state workers compensation laws to permit the parties to settle only the indemnity portion of the claim in states that do not already do so, applying the MSPA only to cases in which the primary payer is legally obligated to pay, instituting a safe harbor threshold amount for settlements, creating a right of appeal from Medicare s rejection of a settlement proposal, and allowing claimant s to waive their rights to certain treatments under Medicare. Any one of these changes implemented on its own would be an improvement, but implementing all of them would create a much fairer system. A.State Legislative Remedies The Medicare set aside requirement is intended to prevent workers compensation insurers from shifting the expense of the claimant s future medical treatment to Medicare. It is therefore only a hindrance to settlement when the settlement is intended to include compensation for future medical expenses. Some states have enacted workers compensation laws that permit the settlement of only the indemnity portion of the claim, ending the insurer s liability for that portion while leaving the medical aspect of the claim open. In such instances, the insurer remains liable for the claimant s future medical treatment, and there is therefore no potential for shifting the cost to Medicare. As such, Medicare ... The health of children entering the foster system is very important, but not always stressed. When entering the foster care system some children enter with health issues, such as developmental and psychiatric disorders (All Foster par. 3). There could be many reasons why they enter with these health issues. One could be due to the abuse and neglect many children encounter while with biological parents (par. 3). While in the care of foster parents, the health of foster children can be neglected as well (par. 4). Younger foster children do not receive adequate preventive health care while in placement, many significant problems go undetected, or, when diagnosed are not evaluated and treated, stated U.S. General Accounting Office (par. 5). Snips and snails, and puppy dog tails. That s what little boys are made of . Author: English Poet Robert Southey (1774 1843). Tabula rasa this is how the educationalist John Locke, (1632) believed children were born, with a blank slate beginning their lives morally neutral. He also wrote that the little and almost insensible impressions on our tender infancies have very important and lasting consequences. He argued that the associations of ideas that one makes when young are more important than those made later because they are the foundation of the self. Locke, (1632) also argued that because a baby s mind was so malleable a parent could mould them with careful diligence. However Kohlberg (2004) was one of the first theorists to address gender as a learned, cognitive concept. His thinking was influenced by Piaget, who portrayed children as active learners who use interactions with their environment to construct an understanding of the world around them (Piaget, 1961). Kohlberg believed that children s cognitive understanding of gender influenced their behaviour (Kohlberg, 1981). Walking into any new born infant s room you could almost certainly guess the gender of the baby just from the colour of his or her clothes, blankets, and toys. The Palette of Narmer, Seated Statue of Khafre, and Akenaten and Nefertit and their Children are three prime examples of the differences in depiction from one period to another. With the Seated Statue of Khafre, we see some continuities from the past but also some changes. The god Horus is again found in this work in an even more protecting role, behind Khafre s head. We also find standing lions on either side of Khafre s throne guarding the ruler. Both these figures, like before for Narmer, are use to reinforce Khafre s divine right of kingship. The noticeable difference between this piece and the Palette of Narmer is the way in which the human form is done. Khafre is much more naturalistic, although not perfectly (Khafre s kilt and hair are still stylized). Underlying organic structures such as muscle and bone are depicted. This is in contrast to the stylized form of Narmer. Also, Khafre is shown in perfect human condition. His body s proportions and muscle definition are very idealized. His face expresses no emotion. These qualities are characteristic to sculpture in the Old Kingdom when this piece was done in 2500 B.C. The small relief, Akhenaten and Nefertiti and their Children, represents unprecedented changes in the depiction of Egyptian rulers.
