My Last Duchess Comparison
Both London and My Last Duchess explore the ideas of power through social structures, hierarchy
and synecdoche. In London Blake presents the theme of power through a reportage. The narrator
wanders through a chartered street and by the chartered Thames . This shows that in the narrator s
eyes the streets are owned and even an aspect of nature such as the River Thames is in ownership
of someone. These owners that Blake refers to is the state who are believed to have acquired so
much power that they can own natural landmarks. Due to this power, the people in London wear
metaphorical manacles that are mind forged which shows they have trapped themselves due to the
pain and suffering the higher class has caused them. Also, the repetition... Show more content on

The narrator (Duke) who is of an upper class is having a conversation with an envoy when he
mentions Will t please you sit and look at her? . This shows the Duke s commanding nature as he
almost forces the envoy to look at his painting although he uses a question it is rhetorical
(envoys do not reply) and it shows how the Duke has power. Also, the Duke s power is
emphasized as he chooses who can see the painting since none puts by the curtain I have drawn .
This gives him a sense of importance. Browning also writes she ranked my gift...with anybody s
gift . This shows that the Duke believes that names and status hold importance, power even and
he expects the name of Duchess will be enough for her but she treats everyone the same, this
angers him. Throughout the poem the Duke says that he does not have skill in speech which
from the poem we can see is false. When discussing his lack of skill he says which I have not ,
This shows the power in words and ultimately how he couldn t stop her with his words because
he would have to stoop he used a different way to fix his problem. Also, he says I choose never to
stoop . The I choose shows hierarchy as he has the choice. The use of the verb stoop is interesting
as it means to directly to bend one s head, associating with the lower class or submitting yourself.
This also shows the Duke s commanding nature as he refuses to stoop he

Michelle Obama Biography
Michelle Obama was born as Michelle La Vaughn Robinson on January 17, 1964, in Chicago,
Illinois. She was the 44th first lady of the United States and wife of US president Barack Obama.
Michelle grew up in a small bungalow on Chicago s South Side. Her father, Fraser Robinson, was
a city pump operator and a Democratic district captain. Her mother, Marian Robinson, was a
secretary but later stayed home looking after Michelle and her older brother, Craig. They were a
perfect and warm family since normally they prefer sharing meals, reading and playing games
altogether.
Craig and Michelle, almost 2 years apart in age, were often mistaken for twins since the siblings
share some similar looks. Michelle as well as Craig were raised in accordance with education and
had learned to read at home by the age of four. That s why, both of them skipped the second
grade. By the sixth grade, Michelle was taking classes in her school s gifted program, where she

Euphemism And Racist Language Examples
Introduction
As much as language helps to communicate, but as the same time this same language gives room
for misunderstanding and miscommunicating. The common and major barriers are these six:
ClichГ©, Jargon, Slang, Sexist and Racist Language, Euphemisms and Doublespeak.
ClichГ©, Jargon and Slang
ClichГ© is an overused word or phrase that has lost its originality and interest overtime. It loses its
impact on the receiver because they avoid the use of the common meaning and at the same time it
doesn t focus on the precise usage of the word or phrase.
Example: At the end of the day said during a business meeting setting might cause misunderstanding
base on the fact that the receiver might interpret that as the literal meaning of the end of that day or

Example: the most common Jargon we all refer to when thinking about a normal standard working
job is the famous 9 to 5 ; which stands for the standard work day.
Slang is a different way than the usual to say or express words. ItВґs close to jargon; it may be a
freshly invented word or a traditional one with various intent or effect.
Example: A common slang I heard about in an American TV series was how workers referred to
CEO, COO, CFO... and so on as the c level workers to refer to the high senior workers in the
management.
Sexist and Racist Language, Euphemisms, Doublespeak
Sexist and racist language is a group of slangs joined together to belittle or insult people of
different groups, origin and culture. Today these languages are violation of policies and
discriminatory laws.
Example: these types of slangs referred as being sexist or racist, unfortunately are present in our
everyday lives and all over the world. A common example is referred to people who travel from
place to place or simply are nomad as

The Satirical Nature Of Tartuffe By Moliere
Wendy Ifenso Okpala
Dr Ress
WR 150
The Satirical Nature of Tartuffe The French play, Tartuffe, was written by Moliere in 1664. The
major theme in this play is exposing what is wrong in the religious society and Moliere uses
comedy to point out this out. This idea agrees with Highet, and Robert Corrigan s definition of a
satire. The first definition made by Highet is that a satire aims to expose what is wrong in our
society as Moliere tries to do with religious hypocrites. The second definition by Corrigan Robert
states that a satirists do not usually attack institutions, rather, they attack perversion of institutions
which ties back to Moliere s main point of this play. Although certain aspects of farce and comedy
are present in this play such as the nature of the characters used and the happy ending, we have to
remember Highet s idea in The Anatomy of Satire, where he explains that farce, which causes
unreasoning merriment is related to a satire. Moliere, whose original name was Jean Baptiste
Poquelin, always wrote about basic flaws seen around him, the catholic church being one of them.
He showed the troubles he had with the religious community through his characters. For example,
Tartuffethe religious hypocrite is constantly overlooked by Orgon, who is the head of the
household and his mother Madame Pernelle. However, Dorine the wise maid, and Cleante the
brother in law, are able to see what other community members usually ignore. Moliere incorporates
these ideas

Fishing in the North Atlantic Essay example
Fishing in the North Atlantic
Abstract Ocean fishes have been consumed by humans beyond their maximum sustainable yields
for years and the Atlantic cod and squid are two examples. Cods were primarily overfished to
commercial extinction. Other variables were also examined to see if they contribute to the
declining population. Water temperature was the natural phenomenon that may be responsible for
poor egg hatching. Human causes such as increased UV radiation from depleted ozone and bottom
trawling disturbance were considered. Trawling disturbance had the worst effect while the other
factors were questionable. As the cod vanished, the commercial fisher turned to squid to continue
their way of life. Government policy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a first world country, we consume a first class quantity of seafood as well. Overfishing of marine
resources jeopardizes not just our existence, but they are also vital in supporting various
ecosystems. In this paper, a number of research articles and other review articles were examined to
compose a picture of the overfishing crisis. The recent developments of Atlantic cod and squid are
discussed in more detail to provide a pattern that may lead to empty oceans in the future.
Accounting for fish in the ocean.
There are many methods to account for the number of fish in the ocean. However, there are many
uncertainties within any models of assessment. The reliability of instruments and the weather
condition during survey have great influence over the results (Smith and Gavaris, 1993). The
mathematics involved and the interpretation of the numbers is very difficult to comprehend and are
beyond the scope of this paper. However, in one 1997 journal article, C. J. Corkett criticized the
commonly used Graham Schaeder model of fish accounting. In general, he discredited the
interpretation of the data because of the instrumentalist approach used by many fishery
managements. Instrumentalism is defined in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English
Language as a pragmatic theory that ideas are instruments that function as guides of action, their
validity being determined by the success of the action. The raw data that

Kurt Cobain Case
The latest lawsuit regarding Kurt Cobain s death scene images has been rejected by the King
County Superior Court on Friday, July 31. The lawsuit was filed by Richard Lee, a conspiracy
theorist behind the public show Now See It Person To Person: Kurt Cobain Was Murdered, who
claims that Cobain was actually murdered by government officials. Lee filed a lawsuit against
Seattle, claiming that the city purposefully withheld important reports and photos that would
serve as evidence for his theory. Ever since 1994, Lee has been on a mission to unveil the details
regarding Cobain s death, but the Superior Court Judge Theresa Doyle rejected the lawsuit with
the explanation it was improperly served. The verdict stated that Doyle failed to deliver the
lawsuit to the mayor, city clerk or city manager, who are the proper recipients of such cases. In

Review Of Dennett And Picard
Dennett and Picard
Zifei Li
Dennett suggests writing a program or designing a robot that feels pain to initiate a more detailed
pain experiment. The example of computer simulation of hurricane shows that to conduct a
qualified simulation program requires a definite theory of the conditions and behaviors of the
object to be simulated. First, we write a program according to the theory of pain, input the
descriptions of conditions in text, then the computer types the descriptions of results in text. But
this time it only gives an exterior behavior, so the program is modified to out the interior results
including the reactions of C fiber and heart rate. After some trials, the program s feedback output
has all the descriptions of neurophysiology and mentalistic psychology. Now we have simulated the
external and internal causes and effects of pain, but not the pain itself. Then the program is
rewritten to output There is a pain ... . After this move, the quality of the pain is also added to the
descriptions of results. However, we should aim the program to do, not to output descriptions, i.e.
the challenge is to make a machine that indeed feels the pain rather than describe the feeling of
pain. In this case, the describing system can be the control system for our new robot. Then the
robot is attached to different objects like flywheel and flashing lights that can move and there we
have a robot that technically reacts to a pain stimulation.

Reflection Of The King s Speech
Part A: The movie В«The Kings SpeechВ» is a movie about a man that in the start of the movie
is represented as the duke of York. He is the son of the current king, king George the 5th. Early
in the movie we are presented with the main problem for the duke, which is his inability to speak
publically. They tell us that the duke has something called Demosthenes which is a fear of
public speaking. We see this problem very early when the duke is about to hold a speech on
behalf of the king, but it is made very clear that he is incapable of doing so. The speech is
cancelled early and we are introduced to one of his many speech therapists. Despite him trying out
various vocal exercises with different therapists, it is made obvious to us that the... Show more

The King is tired of his stammer and personally has given up on therapy, but his wife probably
sees how hurt the duke is from not being able to speak properly, so she seeks out help and finds
Lionel Logue. The duke is convinced to try one last time, and is introduced to Lionel. The first
meeting is when the seed of their relationship is planted, or maybe sapling rather. Lionel is very
stubborn and strict to the duke; he talks in a way that could be seen as if he is trying to be a
smartass. Obviously, as stubborn as the duke is, he doesn t like this. But I personally think their
stubbornness is one of the most important reasons as to why their relationship ends up in
friendship. Another big thing is also how Lionel doesn t treat the duke as if he has a higher status
than him. He simply treats him as an equal, and I think this is new for the duke, and I doubt this
impacts the relationship negatively. The duke gets upset during the session and storms out and
promises not to come back, but as I said earlier, he gets a vinyl record of himself that Lionel

importance of acceptance between two brothers, Brother and Doodle. Doodle is born with a

and now believes in his own ability to do nothing wrong. In Old Woman Swamp, Brother also
creates a development program for Doodle. Brother and Doodle s relationship is beginning to
flourish, Doodle and I spent lots of time thinking about our future. We decided that when we
were grown we d live in Old Woman Swamp and pick dog tongue for a living...Mama and Daddy
could come and live with us if they wanted to. He even came up with the idea that he could

Woman Swamp together slowly strengthen their bond. The beauty of Old Woman Swamp
allows Doodle to imagine a perfect world. His innocence causes him to not understand that his
idea of a perfect world is never going to become a reality. Brother is old enough to know
everything Doodle is imagining is a lie, but the picture he is painting is so serene, that all
Brother could think to do was to agree. Doodle cherishes every second he has with his older
brother, and Brother realizes how precious his little brother really is. Old Woman Swamp is a land
of fantasy, whose warmth and comfort gives the two brothers a safe haven.

Internal Medicine Personal Statement
My first introduction to Internal Medicine was even before starting kindergarten, when as a
young kid I used to visit my dad s clinic. I was always fascinated by the compassion my dad had for
the sick and grief stricken and the sense of joy and happiness he experienced when he used to see
them on the way to recovery. 30 years down the line I graduated from the same medical schoolas
my dad. One of the proudest moment for me and him alike.
In our folklore it says that the great riders never fall, but even greater are those who ride having
experienced the fall. Failure is the greatest teacher and I experienced it first hand when I lost an
extremely uphill battle to get a spot into medical school. The ground shook beneath my very feet.
All my life I worked hard to fulfill the dream of being a physician, pursuing anything else was not

Instructional Design Models And Learning Theories Are Used...
Sink, D (2008), claims that Instructional Design Models and Learning Theories are used after the
needs of an organization have been identified (Sink, D. 2008). Instructional Systems Design
Models provide designers effective ways to identify solutions to support the needs of an
organization. This paper will discuss the characteristics of the Experiential LearningModel,
Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction Model, and the Gerlach and Ely Models along with
providing a comparison and contrast of these models.
Characteristics of ELM, ARCS, and Gerlach and Ely Models
Experiential Learning Model (ELM): Based on early work from John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, and Jean
Piaget, ELM was developed in 1974 by David A. Kolb and Ron Fry in 1974. This model emphasizes
the idea that learning occurs when the student takes interest in the subject matter and engages in
self initiated learning. Learning is an on going process that is based on experience, interactions with
the environment, and involves obtaining knowledge through social interactions. The ELM is
composed of four elements: Concrete experience, observation and reflection, Forming abstract
concepts, and testing in new situations and five steps which consist of: Experience, Share, Process,
Generalize, and Apply (Moore, Eric T. 2013).
Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) Model: The model was developed by
John Keller in 1979 who believed that motivation of students had direct correlation to their ability to

The Deforestation Of The Amazon Rainforest
A real life example of a social dilemma is the deforestation of the amazon rainforest. In the early
2000 s rapid industrialisation, immense scales of agriculture and other economic activities led
to 20% of the territory being destroyed. The scale of destruction particularly, within Brazil was
so large; NASA released an image confirming the effects were detectable from space, (Winter,
2014) Many of the contributing parties to the problem included, developers, subsistence farmers,
cattle ranchers, mining/quarrying, colonising and paper producers, (Butler, 2006). Let us take the
later example; paper producers that became tempted by mass production felled for self interest
would have significantly risked depletion of the forest. The consequences would have been
potentially catastrophic, the millions of species that the rainforest holds would have lost their
habitats, (posing a risk of extinction) and 15% of the world s carbon would have been released,
(Scheer Moss, 2012). Without limits, lamentable freedoms of a common pool are what Hardin,
(1968) described as The tragedy of the commons. Logically, the collective interest of all parties
called for minimal utilisation or withdrawal for long term benefits but free reign meant higher
profitability in the short term. Herein, lay the social dilemma, or more specifically common
resource dilemma. Social dilemmas have two fundamental properties: first, the temptation to serve
self interest receives a higher payoff

Psychological Harm
Psychological Harm To begin, in the journal, Bierut et al are informing psychiatrists on the
effect of lower drinking ages on people s mental health because it causes issues. This journal
focuses on how in times of lower drinking ages, women especially are more likely to develop into
suicidal or homicidal beings. With study grants from the National Institutes of Health, they were
able to prove, These researchers said their data suggest that the national MLDA of 21 may be
preventing as many as 600 suicides and 600 homicides annually in the United States. Numbers
like these prove just how big of a difference the minimum drinking age can have on people. Not
many people take into consideration the psychological effects of drinking on people. With the
MLDA kept at 21, lives are being saved. Hence, America has not gone back to the lower drinking
age since 1984. With that, teen binge drinking has been on a constant decline since. Italy maintains
their lower drinking age and has seen an increase of teen drinkers in their country. Additionally, in
the journal, Kandel is informing sociologists on the drinking behavior in teens because it is a

Protecting American Jobs Essay
Protecting American Jobs
For the past two decades Americans have been getting laid off because their jobs are being
transferred offshore. Advances in technology and low cost telecommunications now mean that a
computer programmer, data entry specialist, or help desk operator answering calls for a U.S.
company can work as easily from India or the Philippines as from Iowa and save parent companies
some 30 percent to 70 percent in costs (Otterman, 2004). This poses the question should the
government protect American jobs by imposing stiff penalties on companies that transfer jobs
offshore by outsourcing or manufacturing. No, stiffer taxes are not going to significantly effect the
number of jobs that are being transferred off shore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consumers want the best quality at the lowest price and the investors want to see a high profit, so
to do that companies have to find the middle ground. Which means they have to find the best
solution for everyone even if it means outsourcing jobs offshore because it more cost effective for
the company. According to Jagdish N. Bhagwati, employing workers at lower cost allows U.S.
companies to be more efficient and productive, permitting them to create the same amount of goods
with fewer resources. In turn, this lowers the price of the goods in the United States, strengthening
U.S. companies and freeing workers for other tasks. The savings allows U.S. companies to stay
afloat and expand in a highly competitive global market (Otterman, 2004). Outsourcing is not
always a bad, it is a change, and change is what pushes both our economy and our nation forward.
Another good point that has been made is, the average global tax rate on multinational corporations
is about 27 percent, compared to 39 percent in the United States (Wolverson, 2011). Given this
information it would seem that instead of penalizing our multinational corporations for increasing
international trade, maybe the United States government should focus more on bring in
multinational corporations from other countries. This would not only create more jobs in the
untied states to compensate for the ones that are being lost overseas but also

This is not much of a surprise as Roy Blunt has said in the past through legislature that he does
not support the right of abortion and has voted for policies that would make it more difficult.
The Gun Owners of America interest group rated Roy Blunt at 70% in 2013 ( The Voter s, n.d.).
This was rather surprising as Roy Blunt stands overall is pro gun, but had voted for a few gun
regulation laws. From this rating it can be inferred Roy Blunt may not be as pro gun as most
Republican Senators. The American Federation of Teachers rated Roy Blunt at 14% in 2012 ( The

education system. These ratings show me that the American Federation of Teachers do not believe
that Roy Blunt has done enough to protect teacher labor unions and expand the education

Are Children Valued In The Past
Humans have always lived in social groups because of the necessities of each other. One point I
found interesting in this article was how children were valued and taken care of in the past. The
reason why children were highly valued in the past was because there were more caregivers
available for each child. This was due to the fact that people lived in multicultural and social
groups focusing less on the significance of personal space and privacy. All these individuals play
a vital role in the child s advancement and safety. Based on the article, a child under the age of six
has roughly 4 to 5 caregivers which are more than society has in this modern generation. Another
point that fascinates me was how having a logical interaction plays... Show more content on

History of State Bank in Vietnam
HISTORY OF STATE BANK OF VIETNAM The development of the Vietnam banking system has
closely linked with the national cause of revolution and construction.
Before the August Revolution in 1945, Vietnam was a feudal colonial country under the French
colonialists rule. The banking and credit system was founded and protected by the French
colonialists through the Indo China bank. Its functioned as both the central bank of the whole
Indochinese region (Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia) and a commercial bank. The bank was an
effective tool for the colonial policy of the French government and enriched the French capitalists.
Thus, one of the key tasks of the August Revolution then, was to build an independent and
autonomous monetary and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. From 1975 to 1985: This is the ten year postwar economic recovery after the liberation and
reunification of the country. As such, Vietnam built up the new banking system under the new
government, establishing a country wide unified banking system and liquidating the banking
system of the previous government in the South. Accordingly, the Vietnam National Bank of the
government of the Republic of Vietnam (in the South) was nationalized and unified with the system
of the State Bank of Vietnam, carrying out together the task of currency unification in the country.
It issued new kinds of banknotes of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and revoke the old banknotes
in both the South and the North in 1978. In the late 1980s, basically, the state banking system did
not implement the market oriented monetary, but still served as a budget tool. Changes in the

Stop Drinking Soda Research Paper
Introduction
You want to lose 12 pounds per year? Or how about avoiding something that can cause lifelong
paralysis or death? There is one simple thing we can do to avoid these tragic outcomes and at the
same time, help America. What is this one simple thing, you may ask? The answer is, by stop
consuming soda.
Thesis Statement
Stop the consumption of soda makes good sense for us as an individual and as a society. In this
paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and the specific ways it can hurt your health, you
ll see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we ll explore the healthier alternatives to soda
that we can drink every day.
Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink
Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We ve noted the harmful ingredients and now let s take a closer look at the harm they can do to
our body. Firstly, the ingredients in both regular and diet sodas can cause many harmful effects
to your body. An average small bottle or can of soda contains over 200 calories, none of which
contains any real nutrients for your health. If you consume just one can of soda per day, you will
gain 12 pounds in only one year.
Following this fact, experts have noted that there is a link between soda consumption and obesity in
United States. For an example, according to a 2012 article in Prevalence of obesity and trends in
body mass index among US children and adolescents , it is found that two out of three adults
and one out of three children in America are overweight or obese. Rising consumption of soda
has been a major contributor to the obesity epidemic. Besides, according to an article by
American Heart Association (2017), sugar is a pure carbohydrate, and carbohydrates give the
body energy, but downing a can of soda of 250 calories isn t helpful. Unless you start doing
jumping jacks the second you finish the soda, and keep them up for an hour or so, those
carbohydrates will turn to fat. It is also proven that people in United States have been paying a lot
for their poor dietary habits. According to the CDC (2004), nationwide obesity related disease
expenditures for Medicare and Medicaid was a whopping $78.5

Introduction
Fort Canning is a well known hill located at the South of Singapore. It was called Bukit
Larangan(Forbidden Hill) before Sir Stamford Raffles arrived, as the locals believed that 14th
century kings had built their palaces on the hill. It turned out that they were right, as later on when
some of the vegetation was removed ancient ruins were found. Archeology at the site has also
uncovered relics, which may suggest that the hill used to be a trading center before foreign forces
invaded in the 1300s.
After Raffles arrived, he built his residence on the hill, as he liked the view it offered of his colony,

Recrystallization And Identification Of Unknown
Recrystallization and Identification of Unknown Arsalan Kouser Chemistry 2270 Laboratory,
Section 18 Instructor: Kyle Fulle October 8, 2014 Abstract In this laboratory project, Compound E
was identified as N Phenylsuccinimide. The % yield was 60.5 %. The melting point of both
Compound E and N Phenylsuccinimide was 153 154 вЃ°C, as verified through experimentation;
the official melting point range of N Phenylsuccinimide is 153 157 вЃ°C. The yield of
dibromobenzene was 1 gram, and the % yield of dibromobenzene was 69.2%. The purpose of this
experiment was to purify an impure compound through recrystallization, and then identify it
through measuring the melting point. Introduction The main goal of this laboratory project was for
an impure compound to be purified through recrystallization, which entails clearing impurities from
the compound, and allows the separation of the pure product, which forms orange hexagonal
crystals. The crystals will have impurities attached to them initially during formation, but over time
compounds will have all the impurities removed as long as recrystallization is not too fast or slow.
The pure compound will then be used to isolate the melting point of the compound and determine
its true identity. Impurities would not allow proper identification of the compounds, as impurities
would cause the compound to melt at different temperatures; hence, this is the main importance of
recrystallization. Other

Transportation costs are largely based on the rates charged by carriers. There are two basic types
of transportation rates: class and commodity. The class rate, which is the higher of the two rates,
is the standard rate for every commodity moving between any two destinations. The commodity
rate is sometimes called a special rate, since it is given by carriers to shippers as a reward for

Indeed, under the cover of open source project, it is clear that Google is the main actor of the

financially harmed by Apple and Facebook as they do not allow for monetizing of their content.

Keep in mind that the main objective is to promote a decreased charging time on mobile and that
AMP is not necessarily the best solution adapted for all.
Announced officially by Google in 2016, AMP is no longer exclusively news centric. Google is
gradually preparing for the imminent use of its project, also the properties of the structured data for
the articles have just been updated in order to integrate new characteristics for the AMP. A
WordPress AMP plugin is also being developed to facilitate the integration of the solution that could
be complex to install.
Its implementation will require knowledge in development and could therefore prove costly to
businesses. To summarize, the Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) use an HTMLframework that was
designed to reduce page loading time, reduce data consumption and improve the mobile user

By moving forward like this, you can minimize the development side load while testing the
relevance of AMP for your site. Several data corroborate the influence of site performance on

DescartesMeditations, To What Extent Are We Able To...
With reference to Descartes Meditations , to what extent are we able to distinguish between reality
and illusion?
Meditations outlines Descartes method of justifying, through reasoning alone, his initial beliefs
concerning the existence of reality as he perceives it. This challenge of scepticism is itself
achieved through adopting a temporary sceptical approach in meditations 1 and 2. By way of
mental deconstruction and evaluation of all that he had previously considered true, Descartes is left
with only the elements that he is able to ascertain are certain and indubitable . He first asserts our
apparent inability to distrust our senses in distinguishing reality from illusion. This process forms

In the first meditation, through providing three arguments (waves) as to the nature of our inability
to distinguish reality from illusion, Descartes makes a convincing argument as to why we would,
prior to his reasoned proof of existence of God, disregard all a posteriroi knowledge as a viable
source of information abou the world. In the first wave Descartes questions the legitammacy of the
information provided by the senses. He provides the example of the way in which our sense of
perspective funtions, stating senses occasionally decieve us about things that are veru small or

Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night s Dream are both based on the same
tragedy of Pyramus and Thisbe which explains why they are very much alike. Although Romeo
and Juliet is a tragedy and A Midsummer Night s Dream is a comedy, these two plays share
many similarities such as the theme of power and control. Shakespeare develops the theme of
power and control likewise in both Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night s Dream by
displaying the character s oblivion to the amount of power they obtain. In both Romeo and Juliet

Summary:
Business intelligence (BI) is presently broadly utilised, especially in the world of practice, to
describe analytic applications. BI is a process that includes two primary activities: getting data in
and getting data out. Getting data in, traditionally referred to as data warehousing, includes moving
information from a set of source frameworks into a coordinated data warehouse. Getting data in

The summer of 2015 was a good summer... it was one to remember for sure!!There wasn t very

becoming a born again christian. To be born again christian you must let god define you and

Another belief the people that are a part of Islam do is fasting. One month each year Muslims
participate in the month of Ramadan. In Ramadan you fast which means that you don t eat when
the sun is out. The purpose of Ramadan is so you could understand and know what it feels like to
be less fortunate and hungry. Another belief is that Muslims can not eat pork. If you eat pork you
will have to ask Allah to forgive you. The reason pork is not eaten is pork is not pure. Muslims

Breaking Down Barriers For Women In The Film Iron Jawed...
Iron Jawed Angels is a film that portrays the cruelty and brutality woman faced throughout the
Suffrage movement in the 1900s and the Women faced many issues, but some accepted inequality
while others waited patiently as asked to for years. Alice Paul and Lucy burns took a stand and
stroke up determination within women. Women who were a part of the movement were referred to
as suffragists who stood up to the law and asked for the right to vote. They faced many obstacles
such as verbal and physical attacks throughout the parade and peaceful protest. For instance,
throughout the parade men shouted to the women to get off the streets and called them names.
Glass bottles were thrown at the women and they were asked to show what was under... Show more

Promotions may not apply to women due to pregnancy. In breaking down barriers for women it
was stated that in the 1960s the job opportunities were limited to teacher, nurse, secretary.
Women were paid lower salaries and were denied opportunities to advance because employers
assumed that they would be soon get pregnant and quit. Society had the mentality that men
needed the opportunities to advance due to the fact that had families to support. The division
between NAWSA and NWP was portrayed in the film and it has relevance to the course because
it ties into what the article breaking down barriers for women revolved around. The older
women were not on board with the strategies and because of that asked Paul to raise the funds for
the parade she wanted to conduct. The split was based on tactics. The NAWSA led by Carrie
Chapman Catt wanted a state by state approach while Alice Paul, who led NWP had more
aggressive techniques. Picketing the white house was considered an aggressive approach to
NAWSA. Although they were aggressive, they were not violent. There was more determination
coming from the NWP. NAWSA waited patiently as asked by President Wilson. The President
ignored the issue and said it was because he had no knowledge nor was he familiar with the issue.
This movement is important because although it took years the goal was achieved. It was a long
battle and women were brave enough to put their lives on the line. Alice Paul was a determined

Textual Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven
Textual Analysis of Edgar Allen Poe
The Raven
Michelle Zaharek
December 1, 2014
The Raven Edgar Allen Poe was a poet, author, editor, literary critic, and husband. His works
have been pulled apart many times and the DNA of his words dissected by critics and literary
analytical writers. He has been the center of attention, but he did not start off that way. Beneath
his sad eyes is a story that rarely gets told. When people think of Poe, they think of a gothic horror
writer, not necessarily an imaginative with a single effect of a literary work. He was also part of
what they call the American Romantic Movement. Many of his poems interact with a female
named Lenore. But in order to understand their relationship, you must first understand his history to
fully break down his most famous tale, The Raven. Poe was born on January 19, 1809. He was
born into a family of two actors. The father really destroyed the family when Edgar turned one.
He would drink and become very abusive, until he decided to walk out the door and never
return. The following year his beloved mother fell ill and died of consummation. This little child
had a life almost predestined just from his past. Edgar began writing at the young age of thirteen
and worked very hard at it constantly. In 1830 Poe enrolled in WestPoint, and after WestPoint he
went on to write full time, and in 1835 Poe married his cousin whom he loved. He continued to
write but was never seen fully as a writer by many until he finally

The Colonization Of Africa During The 19th Century
The Europeans became invested in Africa in the start of the 17th Century when the Dutch
established a port on the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa to grant their ships
extended range to better access the rich Indies. Modern day South Africa, known at the time as
Pretoria, was a hotly contested place among the European powers. Initially there was not much to
attract Europeans to the area besides its great strategic location. Dutch settlers, also known as
Boers, were apt to travel inland and constantly established properties beyond the official borders
of their colony. The migration of the Boers often translated to skirmishes with native African
tribes. The British also established a colony on the Cape of Good Hope. The Brits sometimes
brokered treaties and attempted to keep the Boers and tribes from fighting amongst each other. In
the middle of the 19th century Britain controlled the colonies of the Cape and Natal. The British
colonies extended from the Cape to the North and around the eastern sea shore, nearly to
Portuguese Mozambique. The Boers occupied two interior colonies: The Orange Free State and the
Transvaal. The African tribes were positioned in between all of the colonies. The Zulu For
centuries the Zulu tribe, also known as the Zulu Kingdom, had fought neighboring tribes and
became the strongest of them all. The Zulu were located across the Mzinyathi and Thukela rivers
and north of the Natal Territory. In 1824 the leader of the Zulu

Pricing Policy
Q2
PRICING POLICY
Pricing policy refers to how a company sets the prices of its products and services based on costs,
value, demand, and competition. Managers should start setting prices during the development stage
as part of strategic pricing to avoid launching products or services that cannot sustain profitable
prices in the market. This approach to pricing enables companies to either fit costs to prices or
scrap products or services that cannot be generated cost effectively. Through systematic pricing
policies and strategies, companies can reap greater profits and increase or defend their market
shares.
FACTORS INVOLVED IN PRICING POLICY
The pricing of the product involves consideration of the following factors: (i) Cost Data in ... Show

(iv) Competition Factor in Pricing:
Market situation plays an effective role in pricing. Pricing policy has some managerial discretion
where there is a considerable degree of imperfection in competition. In perfect competition, the
individual producers have no discretion in pricing. They have to accept the price fixed by demand
and supply.
In monopoly, the producer fixes a high price for his product. In other market situations like
oligopoly and monopolistic competition, the individual producers take the prices of the rival
products in determining their price. If the primary determinant of price changes in the competitive
condition is the market place, the pricing policy can least be categorized as competition based
pricing.
(v) Profit Factor in Pricing:
In fixing the price for products, the producers consider mainly the profit aspect. Each producer
has his aim of profit maximization. If the objective is profit maximization, the critical rule is to
select the price at which MR = MC. Generally, the pricing policy is based on the goal of obtaining
a reasonable profit. Most of the businessmen want to hold the price at constant level. They do not
desire frequent price fluctuation. (vi) Government Policy in Pricing:
In market economy, the government generally does not interfere in the economic decisions of the
economy. It is only in planned economies, the government s interference is very much. According to

Irish Stereotypes
Stereotypes and the Monster They Make
As seen through history, people of different racial, social, ethnic, and religious groups are made
into monsters to be feared by the American media. The Irish were drawn as scary, violent
drunkards who should not be trusted. The Japanese were classified as enemy aliens, and believed to
be untrustworthy. Chinese were lazy, evil, womanizing workers stealing jobs. Xenophobia took a
strong hold, causing mass panic of the white men at the sight of the orange and yellow men. Each
of these stereotypes portrayed in the media through political cartoons created monsters in the white
Americans eyes.
Irish immigrants faced a stereotype of being drunk and violent. Political cartoons were a perfect
medium for the media to infect American homes with xenophobia. Irish were drawn to look similar
to monkeys, often wielding a bottle of rum with them. Most political cartoons showed Irish fighting
or causing havoc in in white towns, communities, or homes. One political cartoon in particular is

Women were viewed as helpless beings at the time, calling for protection from the savage Yellow

rape, only causing more fear in Americans hearts. The smoke in the background alludes to the
smoking of opium that Chinese men were stereotyped for. Opium was another taboo in America
that the media often pointed out. This paired with drinking made the American public believe the

What Does Cobie Cailop Try Essay
The standards society hold for women today are wiped away in Colbie Caillat s song Try. Caillat
uses simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey the suffocation women feel
because they try to live up to these stereotypes in the 21st century. When Caillat wrote her song,
she used repetition of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out.
Caillat stated in an interview that When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks
amazing, the first thing people comment on is your image . . . when you don t wear makeup,
you hear things like, Oh wow, you look tired or you re so brave for not wearing makeup! Caillat

We see all skin types, various ages, different races, and all the women stand in front of a plain
and drab background, putting them at the center of attention. Caillat starts out all dolled up and
then proceeds, along with the other women, to take off the makeup, and in some cases hair
extensions and a wig, to un Photoshop themselves. A lot of close up shots showed only their
faces, and side by side videos of before and after as the women wiped off their makeup with
solemn faces, but showed smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in
their faces as they accepted themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it literally
shined out of their faces like sunbeams. They stared directly into the camera, challenging it as
they sang along with Caillat s words. Although this song carries a strong body positivity message,
the imperfections bore proudly by the women in the video are the imperfections deemed
appropriate, or more common, to society such as being overweight, having a gap in between teeth,
frizzy hair, freckles, and wrinkles. The lighting was perfect and nobody s skin was oily, had any
acne, discoloration, or scars. Those imperfections society judges more because it is gross and easy
to point out. These women looked beautiful with and without makeup, but without they were
liberated and showed their true beauty and who they were. After watching the video all around the
world, people understand how society s expectations make women feel

Dr. W Edwards Deming
Dr. W. Edwards Deming was a well respected man because of his philosophy of management. He
viewed management as a tool for success in any organization. Dr. Deming was an expert

quality of war materials. After World War II, Dr. Deming was invited by Japan to help rebuild.
Japan had this reputation of producing cheap imitation products. Through the years and many visits

Deming believe that people want a sense of joy and pride in there work. Money is needed for
living but joy and pride is valued more. They want recognition more than the dollar. Along with
Dr. Deming, Herzberg believed that money is no motivator also. I know many people feel if
they got paid more than they would do more at their job. There are many who feel they are over
worked and not paid enough. They think if they were to receive more money, they would do a
better job. Dr. Deming and Herzberg would disagree. They would say that those employees do
not like there job and regardless what one would pay them, they still would not put forth their
best effort because money is not a motivator. Dr. Edward Deming also believed that a firm
should want to have strong competitors. His reasoning for saying this is to drive out fear. Better
competition leads to bigger and better expansion of the market. Customers needs are determined
by what the firm makes it. We did not ask for electricity, but we got it anyway. Now, most people
would not even dare to live without it. Although many would disagree with Dr. Deming and say
that it would be more beneficial for the company to be in a market with no strong competitors, Dr.
Deming would agree with that statement. It would be good for the company but for the economy
as a whole, it would not be good for. Even though these views are not commonly accepted, one may

How Mobile Phones Help Business
Due to the rapid advancement of technology such as pervasive or ubiquitous wireless and internet
networks, connective product marking technologies like RFID and emerging standards for the
use of these defining specific locations using global location numbers, the basic supply chain is
rapidly evolving into what is known as a Supply Chain Network. Since the mobile phone industry
is a vast and much spread one it needs to be really competitive among other brands. One single

Either way, cell phone manufacturers and sellers aspire to create marketable products that hit sales
channels quickly
This reality is attributed to the very nature of cellular technology s evolution. From the beginning,
mobile handset manufacturers and wireless service providers were actively engaged in building and
installing infrastructure in emerging markets where land line communication was limited.
While they recognized the market demand for wireless technology, they also saw the economic
potential for outsourcing manufacturing in these areas. Now many of these companies are
offshoring product design and development activities in emerging markets such as China.
China has a highly skilled engineering workforce and labor is cheap. In addition, it is a
competitive market, explains Vande Vate. Cellular phone companies in China add more new users
in one month than some do in specific U.S. markets in one year.
U.S. headquartered Motorola, by example, currently employs 2,000 workers at 16 R amp;D
facilities across China.
The diverse mix of cell phones and mobile devices currently hitting retail channels places
considerable importance on how and where manufacturers perform final assemblage and
customization. This, in turn, places additional stress on the supply chain, and often leads
companies to seek third party assistance.
As evidence of this increasing complexity, the outsourced manufacturing and

Analysis Of The Poem, God, Earth Walker And The Wanderer
From the first depiction of the subject of The Wanderer, earth stepper, earth walker, and the
Wanderer, the translators Greg Delanty, E. Talbot Donaldson, and Alfred David differ in their
translations (Delanty l. 6, Donaldson 112, David l. 6). These differences build throughout the rest
of the poem, eventually leading the audience to arrive at different conclusions based on each
translation. By translating the Christian ideas in the poem (God, Earth, human) with distinct word
choice, Delanty, Donaldson, and David create translations of The Wanderer that demonstrate the
pitfalls of choosing inaccurate language.
Delanty, Donaldson, and David cannot agree on the proper translation of the most central element
of Christianity, God, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By focusing on replicating the poetic structure of the original Old English in Modern English,
Delanty betrays his background as a poet, compared to David and Donaldson, who are both
professors. By choosing poetic form over a more accurate translation, Delanty describes a
concept of an impersonal deity, a concept that did not exist in the time of the poem, and leads the
audience to the conclusion that the poet confused religious views. Conversely, by drawing on
Biblical tradition, David and Donaldson inject strong Christian sentiment into the poem that the
original poet may not have intended and suggest to the audience that the Christian God held a
prominent role in Anglo Saxon religious life. In direct reference to God for the second time,
Delanty s choice of Shaper follows a different path than David s and Donaldson s Mankind s
Creator and Maker of Mankind, respectively (Delanty l. 85, David l. 85, Donaldson 113). Delanty
continues to develop the deity of the poem in distinctly non Christian terms. While the
capitalization of the term clearly indicates Delanty considers this moniker representative of God, he
does not make a connection to Christian teaching. This suggests Delanty believes the God, or
higher power, of the poem does not align with the God of Christianity and the poem has fewer
connections to Christianity than the translations of David or Donaldson would suggest. David and
Donaldson use similar

Assessing The Vitality Of A Given Economy
In order to evaluate the vitality of a given economy, one must have a thorough understanding of the
key performance indicators related to economic health. Through careful research of government
statistics, media outlets, and private individuals, it can be concluded that there are 3 main
indicators that can predict and diagnose an economic situation. These main indicators, Gross
Domestic Product, Consumer Price Index, and Standard and Poor s 500 Index, each have a direct
correlation to overall economic vitality. This report outlines each of the 3 indicators and provides
an economic projection based on historical data.
Gross Domestic Product
A Lagging Indicator of Economic Vitality
Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the sum of goods and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Real GDP takes into account inflation, and therefore is a more accurate reflection of economic
vitality (1). One way in which GDP can reveal a country s economic situation is a comparison of
potential GDP and real GDP. Potential GDP is a metric that calculates what an ideal economy
would produce if it were operating at full efficiency. The difference between the United States
potential and realized GDP, known as the output gap, since the year 2004 is depicted below (2).
As evident by this data, production output dropped drastically during the 2008 crisis and has yet
to return to its pre crash volume. While the output gap is shrinking slowly, the difference
represents trillions of dollars of lost revenue. Despite slow progression, the steady lessening of the
output gap does point to economic recovery. The Congressional Budget Office reports that real
GDP is expected to rise 3% by the fourth quarter of 2014 and continue the same trend for the next
3 years (3).
Consumer Price Index
A Lagging Indicator of Economic Vitality Another lagging indicator of economic health is the
Consumer Price Index (CPI). CPI measures median price fluctuation for a base volume of goods
that a typical consumer purchases in a year (4). The CPI is a reliable measurement with a low
sampling error of .03% and includes approaches to combat bias (5). The CPI is an excellent
comprehensive indicator of economic vitality because a multitude of other factors

Similarities And Differences Between Oliver Twist Movie...
COMPARE AND CONTRAST OLIVER TWIST
INTRODUCTION
Everyone is aware that books have a richer backstory and more intrigues than a film, and that is
natural due to the length of the book compared to the film. But why does everyone always say
that the book was better than the film, even though, the film is way more focused and fast
paced? Is it really that big of a difference between the book and the film? I will use this compare
and contrast essay to try and explain in which way the Oliver Twist book is both very similar and
very different from the film adaptation of Oliver Twist. I will also try to explain why people
generally think that the book is better than the film.

Story
The novel Oliver Twist is a fictional story about an orphan who is at the lowest level in society

That is why Brownlow is talking to Nancy in the film unlike in the novel where Rose Maylie is
talking to Nancy on the bridge. It is impossible for Rose to talk to Nancy on the bridge in the film
because she was never introduced.
The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This contrast is not
very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and the novel.
I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film and I will
explain why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do with the fact that the
more focused the content becomes, the less room is left for the significant side facts so to speak.
What I am trying to say is that the film makes no sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again.
But if you have read the book you know they want him back because Oliver s half brother Monks
has payed Fagin to keep Oliver in a life of crime so Monks can receive all of their parents

  • 2. My Last Duchess Comparison Both London and My Last Duchess explore the ideas of power through social structures, hierarchy and synecdoche. In London Blake presents the theme of power through a reportage. The narrator wanders through a chartered street and by the chartered Thames . This shows that in the narrator s eyes the streets are owned and even an aspect of nature such as the River Thames is in ownership of someone. These owners that Blake refers to is the state who are believed to have acquired so much power that they can own natural landmarks. Due to this power, the people in London wear metaphorical manacles that are mind forged which shows they have trapped themselves due to the pain and suffering the higher class has caused them. Also, the repetition... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator (Duke) who is of an upper class is having a conversation with an envoy when he mentions Will t please you sit and look at her? . This shows the Duke s commanding nature as he almost forces the envoy to look at his painting although he uses a question it is rhetorical (envoys do not reply) and it shows how the Duke has power. Also, the Duke s power is emphasized as he chooses who can see the painting since none puts by the curtain I have drawn . This gives him a sense of importance. Browning also writes she ranked my gift...with anybody s gift . This shows that the Duke believes that names and status hold importance, power even and he expects the name of Duchess will be enough for her but she treats everyone the same, this angers him. Throughout the poem the Duke says that he does not have skill in speech which from the poem we can see is false. When discussing his lack of skill he says which I have not , This shows the power in words and ultimately how he couldn t stop her with his words because he would have to stoop he used a different way to fix his problem. Also, he says I choose never to stoop . The I choose shows hierarchy as he has the choice. The use of the verb stoop is interesting as it means to directly to bend one s head, associating with the lower class or submitting yourself. This also shows the Duke s commanding nature as he refuses to stoop he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

ClichГ©, Jargon and Slang ClichГ© is an overused word or phrase that has lost its originality and interest overtime. • 6. The Satirical Nature Of Tartuffe By Moliere Wendy Ifenso Okpala Dr Ress WR 150 The Satirical Nature of Tartuffe The French play, Tartuffe, was written by Moliere in 1664. The major theme in this play is exposing what is wrong in the religious society and Moliere uses comedy to point out this out. This idea agrees with Highet, and Robert Corrigan s definition of a satire. The first definition made by Highet is that a satire aims to expose what is wrong in our society as Moliere tries to do with religious hypocrites. The second definition by Corrigan Robert states that a satirists do not usually attack institutions, rather, they attack perversion of institutions which ties back to Moliere s main point of this play. Although certain aspects of farce and comedy are present in this play such as the nature of the characters used and the happy ending, we have to remember Highet s idea in The Anatomy of Satire, where he explains that farce, which causes unreasoning merriment is related to a satire. Moliere, whose original name was Jean Baptiste Poquelin, always wrote about basic flaws seen around him, the catholic church being one of them. He showed the troubles he had with the religious community through his characters. For example, Tartuffethe religious hypocrite is constantly overlooked by Orgon, who is the head of the household and his mother Madame Pernelle. However, Dorine the wise maid, and Cleante the brother in law, are able to see what other community members usually ignore. Moliere incorporates these ideas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Fishing in the North Atlantic Essay example Fishing in the North Atlantic Abstract Ocean fishes have been consumed by humans beyond their maximum sustainable yields for years and the Atlantic cod and squid are two examples. Cods were primarily overfished to commercial extinction. Other variables were also examined to see if they contribute to the declining population. Water temperature was the natural phenomenon that may be responsible for poor egg hatching. Human causes such as increased UV radiation from depleted ozone and bottom trawling disturbance were considered. Trawling disturbance had the worst effect while the other factors were questionable. As the cod vanished, the commercial fisher turned to squid to continue their way of life. Government policy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a first world country, we consume a first class quantity of seafood as well. Overfishing of marine resources jeopardizes not just our existence, but they are also vital in supporting various ecosystems. In this paper, a number of research articles and other review articles were examined to compose a picture of the overfishing crisis. The recent developments of Atlantic cod and squid are discussed in more detail to provide a pattern that may lead to empty oceans in the future. Accounting for fish in the ocean. There are many methods to account for the number of fish in the ocean. However, there are many uncertainties within any models of assessment. The reliability of instruments and the weather condition during survey have great influence over the results (Smith and Gavaris, 1993). The mathematics involved and the interpretation of the numbers is very difficult to comprehend and are beyond the scope of this paper. However, in one 1997 journal article, C. J. Corkett criticized the commonly used Graham Schaeder model of fish accounting. In general, he discredited the interpretation of the data because of the instrumentalist approach used by many fishery managements. Instrumentalism is defined in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language as a pragmatic theory that ideas are instruments that function as guides of action, their validity being determined by the success of the action. • 10. Review Of Dennett And Picard Dennett and Picard Zifei Li Dennett suggests writing a program or designing a robot that feels pain to initiate a more detailed pain experiment. The example of computer simulation of hurricane shows that to conduct a qualified simulation program requires a definite theory of the conditions and behaviors of the object to be simulated. First, we write a program according to the theory of pain, input the descriptions of conditions in text, then the computer types the descriptions of results in text. But this time it only gives an exterior behavior, so the program is modified to out the interior results including the reactions of C fiber and heart rate. After some trials, the program s feedback output has all the descriptions of neurophysiology and mentalistic psychology. Now we have simulated the external and internal causes and effects of pain, but not the pain itself. Then the program is rewritten to output There is a pain ... . After this move, the quality of the pain is also added to the descriptions of results. However, we should aim the program to do, not to output descriptions, i.e. the challenge is to make a machine that indeed feels the pain rather than describe the feeling of pain. In this case, the describing system can be the control system for our new robot. Then the robot is attached to different objects like flywheel and flashing lights that can move and there we have a robot that technically reacts to a pain stimulation. He is the son of the current king, king George the 5th. Early in the movie we are presented with the main problem for the duke, which is his inability to speak publically. They tell us that the duke has something called Demosthenes which is a fear of public speaking. We see this problem very early when the duke is about to hold a speech on behalf of the king, but it is made very clear that he is incapable of doing so. Lionel is very stubborn and strict to the duke; he talks in a way that could be seen as if he is trying to be a smartass. Obviously, as stubborn as the duke is, he doesn t like this. But I personally think their stubbornness is one of the most important reasons as to why their relationship ends up in friendship. Another big thing is also how Lionel doesn t treat the duke as if he has a higher status than him. He simply treats him as an equal, and I think this is new for the duke, and I doubt this impacts the relationship negatively. • 15. Internal Medicine Personal Statement My first introduction to Internal Medicine was even before starting kindergarten, when as a young kid I used to visit my dad s clinic. I was always fascinated by the compassion my dad had for the sick and grief stricken and the sense of joy and happiness he experienced when he used to see them on the way to recovery. 30 years down the line I graduated from the same medical schoolas my dad. One of the proudest moment for me and him alike. In our folklore it says that the great riders never fall, but even greater are those who ride having experienced the fall. • 16. Instructional Design Models And Learning Theories Are Used... Sink, D (2008), claims that Instructional Design Models and Learning Theories are used after the needs of an organization have been identified (Sink, D. 2008). Instructional Systems Design Models provide designers effective ways to identify solutions to support the needs of an organization. This paper will discuss the characteristics of the Experiential LearningModel, Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction Model, and the Gerlach and Ely Models along with providing a comparison and contrast of these models. Characteristics of ELM, ARCS, and Gerlach and Ely Models Experiential Learning Model (ELM): Based on early work from John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, and Jean Piaget, ELM was developed in 1974 by David A. Kolb and Ron Fry in 1974. This model emphasizes the idea that learning occurs when the student takes interest in the subject matter and engages in self initiated learning. Learning is an on going process that is based on experience, interactions with the environment, and involves obtaining knowledge through social interactions. The ELM is composed of four elements: Concrete experience, observation and reflection, Forming abstract concepts, and testing in new situations and five steps which consist of: Experience, Share, Process, Generalize, and Apply (Moore, Eric T. 2013). Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction (ARCS) Model: The model was developed by John Keller in 1979 who believed that motivation of students had direct correlation to their ability to ... • 17. The Deforestation Of The Amazon Rainforest A real life example of a social dilemma is the deforestation of the amazon rainforest. In the early 2000 s rapid industrialisation, immense scales of agriculture and other economic activities led to 20% of the territory being destroyed. The scale of destruction particularly, within Brazil was so large; NASA released an image confirming the effects were detectable from space, (Winter, 2014) Many of the contributing parties to the problem included, developers, subsistence farmers, cattle ranchers, mining/quarrying, colonising and paper producers, (Butler, 2006). Let us take the later example; paper producers that became tempted by mass production felled for self interest would have significantly risked depletion of the forest. The consequences would have been potentially catastrophic, the millions of species that the rainforest holds would have lost their habitats, (posing a risk of extinction) and 15% of the world s carbon would have been released, (Scheer Moss, 2012). Without limits, lamentable freedoms of a common pool are what Hardin, (1968) described as The tragedy of the commons. Logically, the collective interest of all parties called for minimal utilisation or withdrawal for long term benefits but free reign meant higher profitability in the short term. Herein, lay the social dilemma, or more specifically common resource dilemma. Social dilemmas have two fundamental properties: first, the temptation to serve self interest receives a higher payoff ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With study grants from the National Institutes of Health, they were able to prove, These researchers said their data suggest that the national MLDA of 21 may be preventing as many as 600 suicides and 600 homicides annually in the United States. Numbers like these prove just how big of a difference the minimum drinking age can have on people. Not many people take into consideration the psychological effects of drinking on people. Advances in technology and low cost telecommunications now mean that a computer programmer, data entry specialist, or help desk operator answering calls for a U.S. company can work as easily from India or the Philippines as from Iowa and save parent companies some 30 percent to 70 percent in costs (Otterman, 2004). Consumers want the best quality at the lowest price and the investors want to see a high profit, so to do that companies have to find the middle ground. Which means they have to find the best solution for everyone even if it means outsourcing jobs offshore because it more cost effective for the company. According to Jagdish N. Bhagwati, employing workers at lower cost allows U.S. companies to be more efficient and productive, permitting them to create the same amount of goods with fewer resources. In turn, this lowers the price of the goods in the United States, strengthening U.S. companies and freeing workers for other tasks. The savings allows U.S. companies to stay afloat and expand in a highly competitive global market (Otterman, 2004). Outsourcing is not always a bad, it is a change, and change is what pushes both our economy and our nation forward. Another good point that has been made is, the average global tax rate on multinational corporations is about 27 percent, compared to 39 percent in the United States (Wolverson, 2011). Given this information it would seem that instead of penalizing our multinational corporations for increasing international trade, maybe the United States government should focus more on bring in multinational corporations from other countries. One point I found interesting in this article was how children were valued and taken care of in the past. The reason why children were highly valued in the past was because there were more caregivers available for each child. This was due to the fact that people lived in multicultural and social groups focusing less on the significance of personal space and privacy. All these individuals play a vital role in the child s advancement and safety. The purpose of this experiment was to purify an impure compound through recrystallization, and then identify it through measuring the melting point. Introduction The main goal of this laboratory project was for an impure compound to be purified through recrystallization, which entails clearing impurities from the compound, and allows the separation of the pure product, which forms orange hexagonal crystals. The crystals will have impurities attached to them initially during formation, but over time compounds will have all the impurities removed as long as recrystallization is not too fast or slow. The pure compound will then be used to isolate the melting point of the compound and determine its true identity. Impurities would not allow proper identification of the compounds, as impurities would cause the compound to melt at different temperatures; hence, this is the main importance of recrystallization. Meditations outlines Descartes method of justifying, through reasoning alone, his initial beliefs concerning the existence of reality as he perceives it. By way of mental deconstruction and evaluation of all that he had previously considered true, Descartes is left with only the elements that he is able to ascertain are certain and indubitable . Textual Analysis Of Edgar Allen Poe s The Raven Textual Analysis of Edgar Allen Poe The Raven Michelle Zaharek December 1, 2014 The Raven Edgar Allen Poe was a poet, author, editor, literary critic, and husband. His works have been pulled apart many times and the DNA of his words dissected by critics and literary analytical writers. He has been the center of attention, but he did not start off that way. Beneath his sad eyes is a story that rarely gets told. When people think of Poe, they think of a gothic horror writer, not necessarily an imaginative with a single effect of a literary work. He was also part of what they call the American Romantic Movement. Many of his poems interact with a female named Lenore. But in order to understand their relationship, you must first understand his history to fully break down his most famous tale, The Raven. Poe was born on January 19, 1809. He was born into a family of two actors. The father really destroyed the family when Edgar turned one. He would drink and become very abusive, until he decided to walk out the door and never return. The following year his beloved mother fell ill and died of consummation. This little child had a life almost predestined just from his past. Edgar began writing at the young age of thirteen and worked very hard at it constantly. The Colonization Of Africa During The 19th Century The Europeans became invested in Africa in the start of the 17th Century when the Dutch established a port on the Cape of Good Hope on the southern tip of Africa to grant their ships extended range to better access the rich Indies. Modern day South Africa, known at the time as Pretoria, was a hotly contested place among the European powers. Initially there was not much to attract Europeans to the area besides its great strategic location. Dutch settlers, also known as Boers, were apt to travel inland and constantly established properties beyond the official borders of their colony. The migration of the Boers often translated to skirmishes with native African tribes. The British also established a colony on the Cape of Good Hope. The Brits sometimes brokered treaties and attempted to keep the Boers and tribes from fighting amongst each other. In the middle of the 19th century Britain controlled the colonies of the Cape and Natal. The British colonies extended from the Cape to the North and around the eastern sea shore, nearly to Portuguese Mozambique. The Boers occupied two interior colonies: The Orange Free State and the Transvaal. The African tribes were positioned in between all of the colonies. In other market situations like oligopoly and monopolistic competition, the individual producers take the prices of the rival products in determining their price. If the primary determinant of price changes in the competitive condition is the market place, the pricing policy can least be categorized as competition based pricing. While they recognized the market demand for wireless technology, they also saw the economic potential for outsourcing manufacturing in these areas. Now many of these companies are offshoring product design and development activities in emerging markets such as China. China has a highly skilled engineering workforce and labor is cheap. These differences build throughout the rest of the poem, eventually leading the audience to arrive at different conclusions based on each translation. By translating the Christian ideas in the poem (God, Earth, human) with distinct word choice, Delanty, Donaldson, and David create translations of The Wanderer that demonstrate the pitfalls of choosing inaccurate language. By focusing on replicating the poetic structure of the original Old English in Modern English, Delanty betrays his background as a poet, compared to David and Donaldson, who are both professors. By choosing poetic form over a more accurate translation, Delanty describes a concept of an impersonal deity, a concept that did not exist in the time of the poem, and leads the audience to the conclusion that the poet confused religious views. Conversely, by drawing on Biblical tradition, David and Donaldson inject strong Christian sentiment into the poem that the original poet may not have intended and suggest to the audience that the Christian God held a prominent role in Anglo Saxon religious life. In direct reference to God for the second time, Delanty s choice of Shaper follows a different path than David s and Donaldson s Mankind s Creator and Maker of Mankind, respectively (Delanty l. 85, David l. 85, Donaldson 113). Delanty continues to develop the deity of the poem in distinctly non Christian terms. While the capitalization of the term clearly indicates Delanty considers this moniker representative of God, he does not make a connection to Christian teaching. One way in which GDP can reveal a country s economic situation is a comparison of potential GDP and real GDP. Potential GDP is a metric that calculates what an ideal economy would produce if it were operating at full efficiency. The difference between the United States potential and realized GDP, known as the output gap, since the year 2004 is depicted below (2). As evident by this data, production output dropped drastically during the 2008 crisis and has yet to return to its pre crash volume. While the output gap is shrinking slowly, the difference represents trillions of dollars of lost revenue. Despite slow progression, the steady lessening of the output gap does point to economic recovery. The Congressional Budget Office reports that real GDP is expected to rise 3% by the fourth quarter of 2014 and continue the same trend for the next 3 years (3).
