There are several ways to connect to the Internet including dial-up, broadband, wireless, and mobile connections. Broadband connections like cable and DSL allow constant high-speed connectivity through telephone or cable lines. Wireless connections provide mobility through technologies like WiFi hotspots and mobile broadband using cellular networks. Newer mobile technologies like 4G aim to offer speeds up to 1 gigabit per second for high-speed internet on phones and other mobile devices.

1. Access
There are many different ways to connect to the Internet. One of the
most common ways is via a dial-up connection. With a dial-up
connection, the Internet user can connect to the Internet via his or
telephone line and an Internet service provider.
Broadband connections offer another way to connect to the Internet.
In this category are cable and DSL connections.
With a cable connection, the user must subscribe to a cable-
television/Internet service. They also allow the user to stay connected
to the Internet at all times; the user need only open a browser window
to access the Internet, as there is no log-on process to complete.

2. With DSL, normal telephone wires are used to combine
usually separate voice and data lines, allowing users to
connect to the Internet and talk on the phone via the same
telephone line. Further, users needn’t hang up with callers
to access the Internet, as phone calls and web surfing can
occur at the same time. Satellite Internet service is another
form of high-speed Internet connection. It employs
telecommunications satellites to allow users to connect to
the Internet. In addition to broadband and dial-up services,
web users are now able to connect to the Internet
wirelessly, accessing the web without wires or cables of any
type. Wireless technology allows users to have mobile
connections, accessing the web (with some limitations)
where and when they need to;

3. Wireless 'hotspots' are places like libraries and cafés, which offer you
free access to their broadband connection.
You could also get the internet on a mobile broadband connection
where you plug a USB modem into your device and use mobile phone
towers to access the internet.
3G and 4G networks are provided by mobile phone operators.
A 3G mobile phone can make voice calls, and also access the Internet
using a data channel.
4G Broadband is currently in the initial phases of being rolled out. 4G
networks are expected eventually to offer download speeds of up to
1Gbits/s.

4. 4G mobile networks are designed primary for carrying data using the IP
protocol.
Old Methods- Not Really Used Any More
These types of access date back to the early days of the Internet and
may no longer be provided by most ISPs.
Dial-Up Analogue Connection
Basic Internet browsing and email. Not suitable if regularly downloading
or uploading large files like music, video or pictures.
ISDN
This was the main method for high speed Internet access prior to ADSL
and is now no longer used.
It is similar to dial-up, ISDN establishes a connection to your service
provider when you access the Internet.
