Nickel And Dimed Critical Review
Paper Assignment In the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, who is a famous journalist
and writer, she explores how low wage workers survive in America by going undercover to learn for
herself. Her project begins in Florida where she worked as a waitress. Her goal throughout the entire
project was to manage enough money to pay a second month of rent. Ehrenreich fails at her first job .
Ehrenreich then explores Maine where she begins living in a motel. Ehrenreich gets hired as a
housekeeper at a nursing home and a maid . By the end of her time in Maine, Ehrenreich exposes who
she really is. Ehrenreich then explores her last state, Minnesota. Ehrenreich finds a job as a retail
worker and begins doing fine but later begins hating her job. It is to complicated looking at Ehrenreich
s success or failure of the whole project because one can not say what one feels about the whole book
because it is to long especially because ones paper to write is to short. Criteria is important because it
brings satisfaction and it helps create a final decision. Did Ehrenreich show great effort during her
project and were her experiences realistic? Although Ehrenreich slightly failed at experiencing ...

The Hobbit Movie Vs Movie Essay
The thought that is running through all our heads when we are in English class is, can t we just watch
the movie? The answer is no, we can t just watch the movie because the book has many major details
that the movie does not include. For our age, reading the book will have a major impact on our life
ahead, how we look at the world, and how we look at others. Some of us may be unhappy that we are
reading the book and not just watching the movie, but we need to realize, that not only with The
Hobbit but with all movies, they are vastly different from the books.
In chapter one of the book An Unexpected Party compared to the first part Hobbit movie, (An

Such as how they escaped from the Goblin tunnels. In the book, they Just took the chance when none
of the Goblins were looking and ran. In the movie, they had to defeat the Goblin King in order to
escape. For Bilbo, escaping was a slightly different journey in this section of the book compared to the
movie. For Bilbo in the book he had gotten hit in the head and was lost. He found Gollum s ring and
played his game of riddles then escaped. In the movie the goblins did not see Bilbo, so he was not
captured. He had fallen off of one of the walk ways and saw Gollum s ring and took it. He had his
game of riddles and then escaped.
Chapter six Out of the Frying Pan into the Fire and the last part of the first movie there were some
minor differences that will impact the rest of the book and the next movies. In the book, once Thorin
and company escaped the goblin tunnels, Bilbo told the others how he had escaped using this magical
ring. However, in the movie, he did not mention using any magical ring while escaping Gollum.
In the start of the second movie, (The Desolation of Smaug) compared to the seventh chapter of the
Hobbit Queer Lodgings, there were many very noticeable differences. In the start of the second movie,
Peter Jackson added a scene where Gandalf and Thorin were talking in a bar about the journey they
would venture together. That scene was not in the book. How the company met Beorn, (a shape

the risks in the systems that your team analyzed An Accounting Information System is an integral part
of the new design of Kudler s computer system. Accountants do not necessarily need to understand
completely how computers process data of the accounting application, but it is essential for them to
understand the flowcharts and documentation that shows how this processing works. The purpose of
the new system is to integrate the four Kudler locations. Centralizing the accounting system will save
Kudler money by automating accounting, inventory, human resources, and purchasing. Additionally,

Including such checklists with the statements themselves both documents the work that the employees
performed as well as the procedures and controls involved in the work (Bragranoff, Simkin, Norman,
2008, p. 66). Furthermore, IT managers usually report to whoever manages corporate accounting; and
that is because most Information Technology applications deal with accounting transactions. The issue
with this chain of command is that most corporate controllers can authorize and record certain
transactions, such as accounting adjustments and accruals. If they are also allowed to maintain custody
of assets, such as information databases and software applications, all three duties overlap fall under
the same category. The result is Kudler s controller can authorize and record seemingly valid
accounting transactions while altering results to achieve fraudulent objectives. Moreover, controllers
could either make data and software changes themselves or instruct their IT function managers to
make such changes which appear to be valid requests. Kudler has no reason not to trust their
Controller however; the IT auditors have to be professionally skeptical when designing internal
control structures, regardless of the corporate position being reviewed. Because of this, segregation of
duties can be accomplished by IT managers reporting to Human Resources so that all changes are
reviewed through a different department (Hunton, Bryant,

Shipping Patented By E Commerce Giant
Anticipatory shipping is a method of shipping patented by e commerce giant Amazon in December
2013. During the normal shipping process, an e commerce retailer or goods manufacturer receives a
customer order specifying the exact address where the product is to be delivered. The company then
prepares the package and hands it over to a shipping service provider such as FedEx for delivery. The
delay of multiple days between order placement and actual delivery is a major impediment to the wide
acceptance of e commerce. It forces e commerce companies to offer incentives like cash on delivery to
their customers. Anticipatory shipping is aimed at cutting the delivery time and improving the
experience for e commerce users. With this technique, a company will ship products even before an
order is placed by a customer. It would specify only a partial address indicating destination
geographical area for delivery. While the packages are in transit, the company will employ advanced
analytics and forecasting techniques to predict which customers would want to buy the shipped
products. Then it could use targeted marketing and sales promotions to induce such customers to buy
the products. If a customer indeed places an order, the company would provide exact delivery address
to the shipping service provider and the products could be delivered much quicker, even on the same
day.

Legalization Of Drugs And Szasz
The topic that we have discussed in class so far that has impressed me the most has to be drug
legalization. There were so many reactions amongst the class that it clearly is one of the most, if not
relative topics till this day. Some people agreed on the legalization of drugs and Szasz view, but some
people also were against it like Wilson. The fact that drugs can have an impact on individuals, society,
and the environment is what I think makes it so controversial. It is a prevalent issue since the
discussion of certain drugs being legalized are in the works as of right now. Throughout history, we
have seen the impact of drugs whether legalized or not. With that said, there is bound to be a sort of
debate about how the pros and cons weigh

The teams displayed are the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox, and the St. Louis Cardinals. I for
one believe that the In House designers put these three teams because two out of three of them are the

Mediterranean diet can have overall better health outcomes. It can be difficult to achieve for an
individual who lives in an environment where it creates a barrier to finding sources for the basic need

Abstract
In this essay I shall analyze Barack Obama s Inaugural Address, January, 2009 from the perspective of
various linguistic techniques. More specifically, I shall propose and focus on the idea that the
composition of the speech has an aim to create a unity of the speaker and the audience in order to
deliver the message. Moreover, the speaker maintains the atmosphere of unity throughout the speech,
so that the speech produces an effect when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

performance that aims the delivery of the message. I will focus on the structural and functional
properties of the language, the combination of which enables the speaker to achieve the goal of the
performance. In chapter 2, I will introduce the historical and cultural context in which the speech was
made. Context is defined as circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or an idea, and
in terms of which it can be fully understood (Oxford Dictionary of English, context noun). Defining
the term context as dynamic, Mey states that it is about understanding what things are for; it is also
what gives our utterance their true pragmatic meaning (41). The context is vital for analysis of any
speech, particularly made in public. I will draw attention to the historical, cultural and social
circumstances during the election campaign, which preceded the Presidential address. In subchapter
2.1, the cultural and social background of Obama will be described. During a presidential campaign,
any personal details of a candidate may be significant; they indicate the electors preferences and,
possibly, expectations. A President s address, in turn, is based on audience s expectations. That is why,
I think, this aspect should be taken into account while

Crooks Image Of Loneliness
Why can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. These are the words of Steinbeck describing
loneliness on the ranch in Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck makes an image of loneliness appear as the
words are read from the page. The loneliness in the novel is not caused by abuse or a broken heart, but
by socially imposed barriers. The barriers were never really made, they are more a ranking of social
power over anything else. The social barriers are formed and the workers on the ranch feel forced to
stay within their social boundaries. They all know that Crooks does not live in the bunkhouse, but
instead, out by the barn. Crooks, is in his own social boundaries because he has been hurt before and
does not want to relive his past pain he had suffered. When Crook expresses the quote, S pose you
didn t have nobody. S pose you couldn t go into the bunk house and play rummy cause you was black.
How d you like that? , it really gives you a feeling of his lifestyle. With Crooks, it felt as if you could
take a step out of your own life into his, with the detail of his daily struggle of loneliness, it made the
novel feel very personalized. Another character who is separated from others on the ranch because ...

Analysis Of A Hunger Artist
How can one expect his or her work to perpetually stay in fashion without adapting it to the taste of
the public? Novelties naturally draw more people than constancy, since the new is always more
interesting than the old. This is an unchangeable nature of humanity. One of the major stimulating
factors to the technological advancement of humanity is the fact that they look for newer and or more
interesting things to replace the old. Anyone who aims to gain and maintain popularity must
understand this essential principle to be successful. It is contradictory for one to continuously retain
popularity while not providing interest stimulating factors. Kafka proves this theory through the
melancholy life of the protagonist in A Hunger Artist . The artist s performance was once popular
within his community because the public found the suffering of the artist sparks excitement. However,
as time pass people lost interest in watching him suffer. The artist unrealistically expects the public to
be as passionate as he is for fasting which caused him to blame the public for misunderstanding him.
The hunger artist is someone who refuses to adapt his art to the public while expecting the popularity.
Through the depiction of the miserable life of the hunger artist, Kafka conveys the message that it is
impossible to attain fashionability and maintain an unchanging mindset in the ever evolving nature of
society.
It is nearly impossible for the public to be passionate about every product just

Natural Selection In Zoos
Many zoological establishments take pride in breeding programs. Through such programs genetic
diversity is currently upheld to a point where euthanasia is required for those animals who either do
not make the cut genetically, or are hindering the process of genetic diversity in some way. Should
zoos be allowed to continue to preserve genetic diversity regardless of the cost to its current
residence? Some people believe that killing the animals involved is unnecessary and poor practice by
the zoo. However, others have argued that without the diverse genetics the species would be directly
affected by heritable diseases. Zoological parks are a place where domesticated animals are exhibited
in captivity. The purpose behind a zoo varies, but they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zoos should be focusing on animals that already exist within their program. Genetic diversity is
important as zoos must do the job of natural selection or risk an extinction of an entire species. This
process of natural selection should be revisited as it causes much uprising and is not withholding the
promise of protection. To ensure that generations live and grow, disease free, new genes must be
introduced. Without these genes the outcome would be a small and likely corrupted gene pool. In my
personal opinion, I understand the need of genetic diversity within species as it prevents many
diseases. However, I feel that it is inappropriate for zoos to euthanise healthy animals that may
interfere with the genetic diversity. Such animals need to be either neutered or relocated, even if it is
not transferred to another zoological park but to a game park or national

Expatriation Reflection Paper
I have recently been hosted to speak at an eminent university to a class of graduate students about my
story and experience with expatriation. This experience has been quite overwhelming since it was one
of the few moments that I felt the exhilaration and passion of giving and serving. The most rewarding
part was sensing their eagerness to learn from real life experience, the hunger to discover more about
what lays beyond the doors of the university campus. I decided to speak that day about the process of
adapting to a new country and culture. Taking leaps of faith I believe that making major leaps in life is
a school on its own, this obviously came from experience. Everything that I have done to date in my
journey have been mainly driven by taking risks and stepping into the unknown. Jumping on that
plane when I was a young teenager, moving to Australia and not ever knowing whether I will ever
come back was all part of taking serious steps. This has become a natural phenomenon, changing
places, experiencing a nomadic lifestyle. In doing so, I started picking up on a pattern and seeing a
cycle forming every time I change countries and culture. So what is that pattern and how does it work?
Following an intuitive sense I truly believe that coincidences are like an encrypted message or guide
that eventually lead us into a certain path or veer us to a trajectory that we ought to follow in life. I
have undergone few of those coincidences that I eventually got to learn how to decipher it in other
words, I have learned to grow an intuitive sense that helped me navigate through a very colorful life
journey most recent one, was moving to Sao Paulo Brazil. After getting that call on that Monday
morning in Los Angeles California with an offer to relocate to Sao Paulo, I knew that my life will
change soon. My educated intuition also assured me that this new journey will be needed in my life to
get me to my next destination and adventure. Initial phase of comparison In my experience, within the
first 6 months from relocating to a new country (this could may as well be a new job, career or city) I
tend to always compare everything to my last or most exciting place I lived in. This can include

Paleolithic Diet Research Paper

3rd Hour The Modern Diet
The Paleolithic Era started in about 200,000 BCE and ended in 10,000 BCE. The Paleolithic peoples
were foragers, people who moved around to find food. They hunted and gathered their food.
Paleolithic people ate meat, fruit, and wild grasses. Although the Paleolithic diet may seem more
desirable than what the average person eats today, it is not. The average Modern diet is better than the
Paleolithic diet because it reduces diseases and other disorders and has many added benefits.
The first reason the average Modern diet is better than the Paleolithic diet is that it reduces diseases
and other disorders. The average modern diet reduces the chance of cardiovascular disease,

According to https://www.precisionnutrition.com humans began eating grasses at least three million
years ago so grasses should be included in the Paleolithic diet. Next, Paleolithic people had a much
more active life style than humans today. This is important because in order to get some of the benefits
of the Paleolithic diet modern people have to not only eat the diet but live the lifestyle of our early
ancestors. Finally, the diet of Paleolithic people depended on where they lived. This is important
because the fruits and vegetables in the Modern diet are the same ones someone could eat if they were

Atonement Vs Mcewan
Atonement by Ian McEwan is the story of Briony Tallis writing this novel as an attempt to atone for
the crime she has committed as a child; it relates, among other things, the story of the young Robbie
Turner who is sent off to the French front as a soldier after being incorrectly accused of rape by
Briony. The film adaptation Atonement, directed by Joe Wright, follows the transformation of Robbie
in great details. In the novel and the film, Robbie Turner is first presented as a promising young adult
who is both passionate and full of potential. Both works show how the horrors of war greatly disorient
Robbie and profoundly alienate his personal identity. However, by failing to show how Robbie s
memories and letters exchange with Cecelia bring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, it is clearly shown that although Robbie knows that his taste of life [and]..all [his] old
ambitions and pleasures [are gone], the prospect is of a rebirth, a triumphant return [is possible]
(McEwan 227). In his reflection, Robbie discusses the possibility that after the war, his past would be
erased and that he can start over his relationship with Cecelia and become a doctor in the army
(McEwan 227 228). Therefore, the war brings Robbie prospects if he lives through the enormities with
resilience and leaves the idea of having a good life in the new world a hopeful and promising
possibility. McEwan also emphasizes on the fact that tolerance and kindness is still possible during
war, notably with the passage where Robbie and his men save the RAF man from the reckless crowd
of angry soldiers in the bar (McEwan 255). This illusion of hope, that is coherently tied to Briony s
goal in writing the book, is described by her as a final act of kindness.. [that serves to give] the
characters happiness (McEwan 372). Although Atonement shows flashback on Robbie s life back to
England, these scenes do not contribute to give an indication to the importance of hope in helping
human beings to survive the most unhuman conditions of war. In fact, some flashbacks are the key
things that have led to his tragic outcome played backward (Wright 77:25) and others are tied to the
tragic events that have happened to Robbie, for instance the moment of his arrest (Wright 78:00).
Instead of bringing hope, these memories show bitterness and nostalgia that give an impression that
Robbie is unable to accept

What Is The Meaning Of The Literary Analysis Of Psalm 42
Not only did psalm 42 stand out immediately to me for its literary elements within the first verse, but
for its poetic style and language as well. This psalm is a lyrical one with plenty of emotion and literary
figures. The latter ranges from similes to parallelism and everything in between, all accumulating to
form the psalm s meaning. To begin with, I will point out that the psalm is told through first person
point of view. The speaker or persona is present throughout the entire psalm, using I and my to
describe his thoughts, feelings, and memories. One instance is in the beginning stanza where he asks
himself, [when] shall I come and behold the face of God? (Ps. 42.2). Already this tells the reader that
this will be a very personal psalm, allowing insight into the speaker s mind. The speaker is filled with
anguish, but also strongly desires God s presence in his life. The setting of this psalm takes place in
both the past and present. In the past, the speaker mentions how I went with the throng and led them in
procession to the house of God (Ps.42.4). The footnotes provide information about how the speaker
recollects his memories of the Temple, seemingly homesick for its protection. The present location for
the speaker is from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar (Ps.42.6). As the footnotes
point out, this is far from Jerusalem. God is addressed directly in the psalm as the speaker declares
that his soul longs for you, O God, (Ps.42.1).

Camping At Devils Lake
The vibrant greens, the hastening winds through the trees, the mosquitoes biting where mosquito spray
is lacking, and the raccoons stealing the last box of lucky charms, these are some of the joys
experienced in the great outdoors. The outdoors is one of my favorite get away locations. From before
my adolescence to this day, I am an outdoorsman: From camping at Devils Lake, to canoeing the
Canadian Boundary Waters, and even sailing the Florida Keys. Camping is enjoyable for me because
it is a place of freedom, a place of relaxation, and a place where I can create memories with my family
and friends. The secluded outdoors, away from cities, is a place broken away from the chains of
society. Though campgrounds still have rules, the rules instituted our quite lax in both definition and
enforcement. People can often do a lot more in a campground or in nature reserves than in cities or

bike lane on the right side of the road, however in a campground you can ride the bike on the road or

amount of people you encounter while camping it also allows you the freedom of doing whatever you
want without the judgmental eyes of society laying upon you. I enjoy the lack of judgment

The Andrea Doria And The Collisions Of The Andrea Doria
The night of July 25, 1956 the Stockholm, a Swedish passenger liner, collided into the Andrea Doria,
Italian luxury liner, south of Nantucket. The collision claimed 46 lives onboard the Andrea Doria and
five lives onboard the Stockholm. This was the world s first RADAR assisted collision at sea
(Halpern, 2008). However, the collision was not caused by a RADAR malfunction. The collision was
a result from the incompetence of the crew with the RADAR and the overall misconduct of the crew.
The fog was very dense around the Andrea Doria as it traveled west at 267 degrees true with a speed
of 21.8 knots (Halpern, 2008). The master of the Andrea Doria, Captain Piero Calamai, made all
preparations necessary for navigation in fog (Halpern, 2008). This included additional lookouts on the
bow and in the bridge, watertight doors closed, extra men on standby in the engine room, and a fog
whistle sounding. Once the Nantucket lightship was detected on the RADAR dead ahead, Capt.
Calamai ordered course change to 261 degrees to pass about a mile and half south of the light ship
(Halpern, 2008). The Stockholm was running at 18.5 knots eastbound toward the Nantucket Shoals
lightship at 090 degrees true, in a visibility of about 5 miles (Halpern, 2008). The Stockholm planned
to go north towards Nova Scotia before heading across the Atlantic to Sweden. However, the master of
the Stockholm, Captain Gunnar Nordenson, believed it was safer to meet the westbound traffic head

Analysis Of David Hanson s Carnage And Culture Essay
Question2: In Carnage and Culture, Victor David Hanson expressed a slanted perspective about the
crucial battles in western history in order to support his theory that western militaristic strategies are
superior to alternative forms of warfare. He fostered his sentiments by explaining how specific battle
tactics can unify or divide a nation in a matter of moments. However, his reference to the concept that
western warriors continuously triumph in war, is expressed in a manner that does not fully evaluate
both perspectives of the conflict. Hanson alluded to his message behind Carnage and Culture in his
thesis: A sense of personal freedom, superior discipline, matchless weapons, egalitarian camaraderie,
individual initiative, constant tactical adaptations, and flexibility, preference for shock battle of heavy
infantry were themselves the murderous dividend of Hellenic culture at large ... Yet for the past 2,500
years even in the Dark Ages, well before the Military Revolution, and not simply as a result of the
Renaissance, the European discovery of the Americas, or the Industrial Revolution there has been a
peculiar practice of Western warfare, a common foundation and continual way of fighting, that has
made Europeans the most deadly soldiers the history of civilizations. (Hanson 5 6)
Although Hanson is able to give an overview of valuable battles that express western confidence and
reflect the west s brutal military tactics that, his analysis of the war does not

A Comparison Of Faith And The Future Of Religion
A Comparison of Faith
Faith, defined as a strong belief in something which cannot be proven, has been argued over countless
generations. Still, even without proof, individuals worldwide hold true to their faith each day. After
studying faith and religion in texts written by scholars with varying backgrounds, it is easy to see faith
is something which is widely disputed. Comparison of Sigmund Freud s The Future of an Illusion and
Paul Tillich s Dynamics of Faith, fully displays the discrepancies in points of view on the function of
faith, as well as the necessity of faith, in society; while the comparison of Viktor E. Frankl s Man s
Search for Meaning and Karl Marx s on the Future of Religion, demonstrate both similarities and
differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout his book, Tillich references faith as an ultimate concern to emphasize the importance of
faith in the personality of individuals. Furthermore, Tillich believes faith is a vital part of human
nature and that even the rejection of faith is, in itself, an act of faith. This displays Tillich s
understanding that faith will never disappear from society because it is a piece of the puzzle in what
makes up humanity (Tillich).
After summarizing both arguments, discernibly Sigmund Freud and Paul Tillich would hold opposing
views on both the function of faith and the future of faith. The disagreement would begin with the
function of religion in society, displayed when Tillich writes, The question raised by this book is
whether such belief is based on insight or on misunderstanding, and the question is unambiguously
that the rejection of faith is rooted in a complete misunderstanding of the nature of faith (146). Freud
believes religion is man being immature, but Tillich feels differently. Tillich perceives the rejection of
faith as the misunderstanding of the true nature of faith. If Tillich and Freud were to hold a debate,
Tillich would most likely discuss how Freud misunderstands faith s nature. Freud, however, would
respond with a discussion about how faith is man looking for security in the world.

Lab Report Experiment II
ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this lab is to extract the organic compound cinnamaldehyde from
cinnamon. The process used in order to execute the extraction of the cinnamaldehyde is called steam
distillation. After massing the Cinnamaldehyde on a scale in the laboratory, its total mass came out to
0.050 grams. The calculated percent yield came out to around 1.55%. The experiment yielded success
due to the fact that my data fell in the range (of the expected percent yield.)
PROCEDURES: The procedure for this lab experiment is located in Professor Zachary J. Poulos
manual A Laboratory Manual for the Health Science Major: Organic Chemistry I. Refer to pages 36
42 for a detailed procedure regarding this experiment. Refer to the second page in the back of the
laboratory manual (lab notebook) for a short and concise written version of this procedure. ... Show

After steam distillation occurred, the solvent was exposed to the open air for seven days. The
Cinnamaldehyde built up in the bottom of the test tube, baring the color brown. The calculated actual
percent yield of my experiment was 1.55%. This calculation fell in the range of the literature percent
yield of Cinnamaldehyde which is between 1.00 3.00%. Due to my calculation falling in range to what
is was supposed to be (literature percent yield), I would have to conclude that my experiment in this
lab was successful. However, there are many ways that this experiment could have gone wrong but
didn t. If I had not extracted enough crystals, or spilled some out of my container, my calculation
would not have fell in the range of the literature percent

He found out the CIA was trying to kill (Cuban leader Fidel) Castro, which is a fact. So the argument
is that the CIA felt that Kennedy was going to disband them. And as a result of that, they were the

be ruled out. Others believed the Soviet Union had to do with Kennedy s death. Two direct points lead
to the Soviet Union, one of which was that the US was in the Cold War and that Soviet Premier Nikita

The other one is that Harvey Lee Oswald spent a portion of his time in the Soviet Union asking to

An Individual s Leadership Skills
a) According to The Law of the Lid, an individual s leadership skills puts a cap on how effective that
person will be throughout life. In other words, potential success surpass the level of leadership a
person expresses. Organizations can also be impacted by The Law of the Lid; the strength of the
leader(s) limits the amount of success the whole organization will have. This law was put into play in
my National Honors Society in high school. During my first year, the leaders were not the best quality.
The members on the board were all involved in other sports or clubs and tended to focus more on
those versus NHS. They had a low leadership level, and in turn, our club had a low effectiveness and
success rate. In my senior year, the leaders all changed and were more involved in NHS. We had all
talked about bettering the program and progressing the organization s reputation again. Our leaders
stepped up to the plate and increased the amount of activities we did for our community. These leaders
had better qualities and therefore, our National Honor Society thrived. Leadership and effectiveness
go hand in hand as The Law of the Lid expresses. b) Intuition is the ability to understand something
immediately and comes naturally to a person. This is an important quality to have as a leader. John
Maxwell addresses this in The Law of Intuition, which says that it is the natural strength of someone
to be able to look at a situation and know exactly how to handle it

U.s. Economy s Impact On The Economy
One argument that disagrees with the increase being an issue, States that the economy could benefit
from the tuition increase being put back into it. With this extra money the economy could start to
recover from the recession that designated start was December 2007 (R.F., 2015). While recovery is
very important for America, how can tuition increase help to rebuild a country that needs less people
in debt and more productive citizens producing rather than increasing debt due to rising cost? How
much will the government take from students to rebuild its economy? Depriving student of funds is
wrong and is not the best solution for our economy. There are more ethical and effective ways to fight
a recession that seems to already be recovering than to increase tuition for those that in the future will
be an important part in the increase of our nation s productivity. While conducting my interview with

Prime Ministers have made multiple important changes to Canada and the world. Despite having
different goals and priorities, both Prime Ministers have improved the lives of many and are

One of Pearson s goal was to strengthen relationships between French and English Canadians. On
April 21 1963 when Quebec separatists placed a bomb in a Canadian army recruiting office killing a
janitor, Pearson called for a royal commission to investigate bilingualism and biculturalism in Canada.
From the recommendations made during the royal commission, Pearson created the Official
Languages Act, which states that federal services such as federal courts and government ministries,
must be offered in both English and French. This makes him significant, because bilingualism in
Canada still exists today and is still an important part of our culture. On the other hand, Diefenbaker s
Bill of Rights got replaced in 1984, and none of his contributions reflect Canada s culture or identity
the way Pearson s does. Though Canada is often regarded as the United States little brother , one thing
that differentiates Canada from the US is their free health care system. Medicare, Canada s universal

Summary Of The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up By Marie...
The popularity of Marie Kendo s book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, shows people how

spark joy. Well, I think there are tremendous ways to sparking joy. For instance, make more money;
get a valuable present and so on. Most people will give the definition of proper life as getting more
just like the examples I give above. In the book, the author gives an opposite opinion. She tries to tell
people that tidying up are not just a method of physical self help but also a method of mental self help.

The Three Levels Of Standardness In English
The three levels of standardness in English are formal standard English, informal standard/mainstream
English, and vernacular English (Wolfram Schilling, 2016). Based in written language, formal
standard English is greatly enforced in formal institutions such as schools and is codified in English
grammar texts. It is resistant to change and only used in formal written or spoken language (Wolfram
Schilling, 2016). Informal standard English exists on a continuum in which speakers are judged to be
more or less standard. A speaker s perceived level of standardness is flexible and subjective, and
dependent on the speaker and listener s experiences, regional and social backgrounds, preconceptions,
and prejudices. Informal standard English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

vernacular, such as like I say [like I said] or he s done real well [he s done really well]. However, these
were not systematic and perhaps not as stigmatized as non standard in comparison to grammatical
structures such as double negatives.
The five historical explanations for US dialects given by Wolfram and Schilling (2016) are settlement,

the dialect of my DARE speaker include settlement and migration.
My speaker lives in the West dialect region. The western coast was the last area in North America to

across the United States (Labov, Ash Boberg, 2006) and is the least likely to be affected by the
founder effect and/or other characteristics of the native languages of settlers (Wolfram Schilling,
2016) . It is also arguable that speakers of the West region dialect does not speak in a variety the same
way that a speaker from the Appalachian region might.

The Extraction Of Factors And Factors
The extraction of factors helps to determine the loading of factors. The factor loading matrix is shown
below and is estimated with two common factors. The first column of the matrix depicts the first
unrotated factor and it can be analysed that the first factor puts maximum and approximately equal
weights to the first, second and fifth variable. And, it puts the minimum weight to the third variable,

Selecting an appropriate rotation is difficult task. Hence, it is preferable to perform both rotations on
the factors.
Varimax rotation technique results in high loading of each variable on a few number of factors, ideally
on one factor and hence resulting in better factor analysis. The Figure. 18 shows the biplot of loadings
of varimax rotated factors. It can be seen that in order to bring the loadings close to zero or one,
varimax has rotated the axes. The four variables are close to first factor axis. While, the third variable
lies approximately on second factor axis. Hence, the results of varimax rotation are satisfactory
because most of the variables are near to the factor axis. Figure. 17
Promax rotation can be used incase we are not able to obtain the satisfactory and simple set of factors
with an orthogonal rotation. The promax rotation allows the factor axes to have an oblique angle
between them. The Figure. 19 shown belows depicts the promax rotation. It can be seen that the
variables 1, 2 and 5 are close to the first factor axes and third variable is close to the second factor
axis. The data is better accomodated in an oblique rotation. The two latent factors can describe
variability of buildings and agriculture, which are having high impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

Booker T Washington s Influence On Education
Knowledge is freedom like nothing else. It can take a small, poor, uneducated slave boy like Booker
Taliaferro Washington from slavery to dinner at the White House with the president. Booker didn t
have a considerable amount of money, nor did he have educated parents, yet inside of him and with
the support of his mother, brother and his community he became very successful. He always had a
firm conviction that there was power in education. He felt this conviction even as a young boy who
appeared to have no hope of gaining the type of education that he would one day earn. Booker
Taliaferro Washington and many other prominent black individuals such as Frederic Douglass,
Malcom X, Thurgood Marshall and W.E.B found that literacy was a very powerful ... Show more

Why Southwest Is A Values Based Firm Looks Like
None of Southwest s competitors can completely copy what Southwest is doing, because Southwest is
a values based firm. Southwest s strategies can be imitated, but Southwest s culture cannot be copied.
I would like to explain what the values based diverse firm looks like, how Southwest is values based
diverse, and why Southwest s culture cannot be copied. The following are the relevant facts, the
analysis, and justification using supporting evidence.
What the values based firm looks like
In Cascio s book, he explains, The values based approach begins with a set of fundamental values that
are energizing and capable of unlocking people s human potential values such as fun, fairness,
challenge, trust, respect, community, and family (Strategic Human Resource Management, P.44). The
management invents the strategies for management policies and practices that are consistent with
these values on a day to day basis. Southwest fits in Cascio s criteria of the values based firm. The
following are the case details:
How Southwest is a values based firm
There are interesting facts that Southwest s approaches to business are based on fun, trust, community,
and family. For example, at Southwest, there is little cross training except for only two formal teams:
the marketing and reservations department. This means that Southwest promotes mingling with the
employees for informal networking and helping each other out, in spite of their job assignments.

The Factors Affecting The Work Environment On Health...
Literature Review In the recent years, there has been viable evidence that shows that other factors in
the work environment may also be strong push factors for retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012,
pg.445). The factors that contribute to forcing workers to leave the public sector include: workload
and staff shortages are contributing to burnout, high absenteeism, stress, depression, low morale, and
de motivation (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). It is also shown that poor working
conditions also contributes to preventing staff morale and motivation and it also contributes directly to
recruitment and retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg445). According to Burns, Bradley and
Weiner (2012), one strategy being used to alleviate health worker shortages and to improve access and
quality of health services is task shifting, or the delegation of tasks that would traditionally fall within
the scope of practice of doctors or nurses to other health who have undergone shorter periods of
training (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). In so by implementing task shifting, the work
load that all nurses have to handle on a daily basis is split up with easier duties falling on other health
professionals with less experience. Also another strategy of combating nursing retention is by offering
nonfinancial incentives instead of financial incentives which can help to motivate workers (Burns,
Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.444). The offering on nonfinancial

Characterization In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The Scarlet Ibis is a short story written by James Hurst to illustrate the difficulties of living with
impairments. Hurst uses characterization by character s actions, character s speech, and character s
thoughts to create meaningful characters. In this story, Hurst uses characterization by character s
actions to demonstrate the life of a small, physically impaired boy. All throughout the story, Doodle
works to overcome the obstacles facing him, whether it is simply walking or even running. Many
children facing his predicament would simply give up, but Doodle s attempts to succeed prove that he
is both courageous and tough. Also, the narrator works to help his baby brother succeed in being a
normal boy, and he even goes to the extreme in pushing the weak child. This shows that the older
brother is motivated to help his brother, but he lacks the care and love that he should be providing.
Doodle s short life is displayed beautifully in this story with the use of characterization by character s
actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Multiple times throughout this story the narrator attempts to leave Doodle scared and alone, and
Doodle calls out to his brother, Don t go leave me, brother (Hurst 418).This shows not only the
dependency Doodle has on his older brother, but also the lack of empathy and care that he bestows on
Doodle. When the older brother declares that he is going to teach Doodle to walk, his response is, I
can t walk brother (Hurst 418). This shows that, in the beginning, Doodle has little hope for himself,
and that he based his accomplishments off of what others thought of him. Any reader of this story is
amazed by both Doodle and his big brother, and these characters are revealed using characterization

Analysis Of Ecuador s Housing And Tourism Industry
Ecuador is well known for its beauty and has made a name for its self to be one of the best places for
retirees to buy properties. There is a wide variety of selection whether you want to live in the coast,
the mountains or in one of Ecuador s bustling cities. The housing market in Ecuador is frequently
proclaimed as one of the best and cheapest to retire in and has been becoming more and more popular
for the last five years, with home prices appreciating annually by 10 to 12 percent. Therefore we have
chosen to enter Ecuador s housing and tourism industry. We believe this is a good time to enter the
market because of low cost properties with potential for high growth. As potential buyers seek to buy

Which would produce a 36% ROI after a period of 5 10 years. Compared to a Luxury property that
would sell for somewhere around 500,000 USD with no renovation cost which would generate a ROI
of almost 200% if resold at 1.5 million USD. It is estimated that after 5 10 years (possibly earlier) of
letting these properties appreciate it would be more efficient to buy larger more expensive properties
than many small cheaper properties. In order to get the same results with buying cheaper less
expensive properties you would have to have very rapid sales or you would have to sell at a price
which would be sacrificing desired returns. While it is hard to generalize, as every transaction is
different typically the agents commission is 5% of the agreed up price, and all other costs (legal fees
and taxes) are typically between $750 and $1,500 for a regular condo or house purchase. Annual
property taxes in Ecuador are based on Assessed Value and not on the actual purchase amount. The
assessed value can be anywhere from 5% to 50% of the real value of the property depending on where
the property is located. EX. if we purchase a property for $100,000 and the assessed value is $30,000,
the maximum property tax would be $300 per year. Property taxes are due on January first of each
year, and are not due until December 31

Lipsle Analysis Case Study
A STEEPLE analysis is a strategic marketing tool that allows business owners to take a closer look at
the external factors that could affect the day to day running of the business. The external factors a
STEEPLE analysis includes are sociological, technological, economic, environmental, political, legal
and ethical.
After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, it was clear that sociological factors affect Leon
substantially. One factor that has affected Leon is education; this is due to the new training
programme, Wing Tsun, Vincent has adopted in a bid to improve performance, reduce wastage and
promote staff wellbeing. Since starting, Leon s baristas have knocked 30 seconds off their time which
is now 4 minutes 30 seconds to make 6 perfect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, another factor that I found within the (EMA, 2016) case study was that Leon plan to
open its first site outside of the UK, which will be located within Amsterdam s Schipol airport and will
be the first of a few sites within northern Europe. This will impact Leon greatly as increasing the
number of chain restaurants will be costly at first but then will provide further income which will
boost their economic growth.
After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, I found that environmental factors affect Leon but not a
substantial amount. For example, Leon s new training programme, Wing Tsun, is not only a way to
improve performance but also to reduce wastage. This new programme was introduced after Vincent,
the co founder of Leon, stated in an interview that the purpose of business should be to make the lives
of humans and the health of the planet better. Therefore, by introducing the new programme that helps
reduce the wastage of Leon s restaurants, Vincent s company is helping the health of the planet.
Leon may have political factors that affect their business on a day to day basis but there wasn t any
relevant information in the case study regarding politics. Therefore, I can t comment on how political
factors affect Leon.
A legal factor that was present in the (EMA, 2016) case study was taxation, particularly the sugar tax .
Leon has put the sugar tax into practice by adding an

The answer is no, we can t just watch the movie because the book has many major details that the movie does not include. For our age, reading the book will have a major impact on our life ahead, how we look at the world, and how we look at others. Some of us may be unhappy that we are reading the book and not just watching the movie, but we need to realize, that not only with The Hobbit but with all movies, they are vastly different from the books. For Bilbo in the book he had gotten hit in the head and was lost. He found Gollum s ring and played his game of riddles then escaped. In the movie the goblins did not see Bilbo, so he was not captured. He had fallen off of one of the walk ways and saw Gollum s ring and took it. He had his game of riddles and then escaped. However, in the movie, he did not mention using any magical ring while escaping Gollum. Accountants do not necessarily need to understand completely how computers process data of the accounting application, but it is essential for them to understand the flowcharts and documentation that shows how this processing works. The purpose of the new system is to integrate the four Kudler locations. Furthermore, IT managers usually report to whoever manages corporate accounting; and that is because most Information Technology applications deal with accounting transactions. The issue with this chain of command is that most corporate controllers can authorize and record certain transactions, such as accounting adjustments and accruals. If they are also allowed to maintain custody of assets, such as information databases and software applications, all three duties overlap fall under the same category. The result is Kudler s controller can authorize and record seemingly valid accounting transactions while altering results to achieve fraudulent objectives. Moreover, controllers could either make data and software changes themselves or instruct their IT function managers to make such changes which appear to be valid requests. Kudler has no reason not to trust their Controller however; the IT auditors have to be professionally skeptical when designing internal control structures, regardless of the corporate position being reviewed. Because of this, segregation of duties can be accomplished by IT managers reporting to Human Resources so that all changes are reviewed through a different department (Hunton, Bryant, ... • 6. Shipping Patented By E Commerce Giant Anticipatory shipping is a method of shipping patented by e commerce giant Amazon in December 2013. During the normal shipping process, an e commerce retailer or goods manufacturer receives a customer order specifying the exact address where the product is to be delivered. The company then prepares the package and hands it over to a shipping service provider such as FedEx for delivery. The delay of multiple days between order placement and actual delivery is a major impediment to the wide acceptance of e commerce. It forces e commerce companies to offer incentives like cash on delivery to their customers. Anticipatory shipping is aimed at cutting the delivery time and improving the experience for e commerce users. With this technique, a company will ship products even before an order is placed by a customer. It would specify only a partial address indicating destination geographical area for delivery. While the packages are in transit, the company will employ advanced analytics and forecasting techniques to predict which customers would want to buy the shipped products. Then it could use targeted marketing and sales promotions to induce such customers to buy the products. If a customer indeed places an order, the company would provide exact delivery address to the shipping service provider and the products could be delivered much quicker, even on the same day. I will focus on the structural and functional properties of the language, the combination of which enables the speaker to achieve the goal of the performance. In chapter 2, I will introduce the historical and cultural context in which the speech was made. Context is defined as circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or an idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood (Oxford Dictionary of English, context noun). Defining the term context as dynamic, Mey states that it is about understanding what things are for; it is also what gives our utterance their true pragmatic meaning (41). The context is vital for analysis of any speech, particularly made in public. I will draw attention to the historical, cultural and social circumstances during the election campaign, which preceded the Presidential address. In subchapter 2.1, the cultural and social background of Obama will be described. During a presidential campaign, any personal details of a candidate may be significant; they indicate the electors preferences and, possibly, expectations. • 13. Analysis Of A Hunger Artist How can one expect his or her work to perpetually stay in fashion without adapting it to the taste of the public? Novelties naturally draw more people than constancy, since the new is always more interesting than the old. This is an unchangeable nature of humanity. One of the major stimulating factors to the technological advancement of humanity is the fact that they look for newer and or more interesting things to replace the old. Anyone who aims to gain and maintain popularity must understand this essential principle to be successful. It is contradictory for one to continuously retain popularity while not providing interest stimulating factors. Kafka proves this theory through the melancholy life of the protagonist in A Hunger Artist . The artist s performance was once popular within his community because the public found the suffering of the artist sparks excitement. However, as time pass people lost interest in watching him suffer. The artist unrealistically expects the public to be as passionate as he is for fasting which caused him to blame the public for misunderstanding him. The hunger artist is someone who refuses to adapt his art to the public while expecting the popularity. Through the depiction of the miserable life of the hunger artist, Kafka conveys the message that it is impossible to attain fashionability and maintain an unchanging mindset in the ever evolving nature of society. • 17. Expatriation Reflection Paper I have recently been hosted to speak at an eminent university to a class of graduate students about my story and experience with expatriation. This experience has been quite overwhelming since it was one of the few moments that I felt the exhilaration and passion of giving and serving. The most rewarding part was sensing their eagerness to learn from real life experience, the hunger to discover more about what lays beyond the doors of the university campus. I decided to speak that day about the process of adapting to a new country and culture. Taking leaps of faith I believe that making major leaps in life is a school on its own, this obviously came from experience. Everything that I have done to date in my journey have been mainly driven by taking risks and stepping into the unknown. Jumping on that plane when I was a young teenager, moving to Australia and not ever knowing whether I will ever come back was all part of taking serious steps. This has become a natural phenomenon, changing places, experiencing a nomadic lifestyle. In doing so, I started picking up on a pattern and seeing a cycle forming every time I change countries and culture. So what is that pattern and how does it work? Following an intuitive sense I truly believe that coincidences are like an encrypted message or guide that eventually lead us into a certain path or veer us to a trajectory that we ought to follow in life. I have undergone few of those coincidences that I eventually got to learn how to decipher it in other words, I have learned to grow an intuitive sense that helped me navigate through a very colorful life journey most recent one, was moving to Sao Paulo Brazil. After getting that call on that Monday morning in Los Angeles California with an offer to relocate to Sao Paulo, I knew that my life will change soon. My educated intuition also assured me that this new journey will be needed in my life to get me to my next destination and adventure. Atonement Vs Mcewan Atonement by Ian McEwan is the story of Briony Tallis writing this novel as an attempt to atone for the crime she has committed as a child; it relates, among other things, the story of the young Robbie Turner who is sent off to the French front as a soldier after being incorrectly accused of rape by Briony. The film adaptation Atonement, directed by Joe Wright, follows the transformation of Robbie in great details. In the novel and the film, Robbie Turner is first presented as a promising young adult who is both passionate and full of potential. In the novel, it is clearly shown that although Robbie knows that his taste of life [and]..all [his] old ambitions and pleasures [are gone], the prospect is of a rebirth, a triumphant return [is possible] (McEwan 227). In his reflection, Robbie discusses the possibility that after the war, his past would be erased and that he can start over his relationship with Cecelia and become a doctor in the army (McEwan 227 228). Therefore, the war brings Robbie prospects if he lives through the enormities with resilience and leaves the idea of having a good life in the new world a hopeful and promising possibility. McEwan also emphasizes on the fact that tolerance and kindness is still possible during war, notably with the passage where Robbie and his men save the RAF man from the reckless crowd of angry soldiers in the bar (McEwan 255). This illusion of hope, that is coherently tied to Briony s goal in writing the book, is described by her as a final act of kindness.. [that serves to give] the characters happiness (McEwan 372). Although Atonement shows flashback on Robbie s life back to England, these scenes do not contribute to give an indication to the importance of hope in helping human beings to survive the most unhuman conditions of war. In fact, some flashbacks are the key things that have led to his tragic outcome played backward (Wright 77:25) and others are tied to the tragic events that have happened to Robbie, for instance the moment of his arrest (Wright 78:00). • 20. What Is The Meaning Of The Literary Analysis Of Psalm 42 Not only did psalm 42 stand out immediately to me for its literary elements within the first verse, but for its poetic style and language as well. This psalm is a lyrical one with plenty of emotion and literary figures. The latter ranges from similes to parallelism and everything in between, all accumulating to form the psalm s meaning. To begin with, I will point out that the psalm is told through first person point of view. The speaker or persona is present throughout the entire psalm, using I and my to describe his thoughts, feelings, and memories. One instance is in the beginning stanza where he asks himself, [when] shall I come and behold the face of God? (Ps. 42.2). Already this tells the reader that this will be a very personal psalm, allowing insight into the speaker s mind. The speaker is filled with anguish, but also strongly desires God s presence in his life. The setting of this psalm takes place in both the past and present. In the past, the speaker mentions how I went with the throng and led them in procession to the house of God (Ps.42.4). The footnotes provide information about how the speaker recollects his memories of the Temple, seemingly homesick for its protection. The present location for the speaker is from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar (Ps.42.6). As the footnotes point out, this is far from Jerusalem. God is addressed directly in the psalm as the speaker declares that his soul longs for you, O God, (Ps.42.1). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Camping At Devils Lake The vibrant greens, the hastening winds through the trees, the mosquitoes biting where mosquito spray is lacking, and the raccoons stealing the last box of lucky charms, these are some of the joys experienced in the great outdoors. The outdoors is one of my favorite get away locations. From before my adolescence to this day, I am an outdoorsman: From camping at Devils Lake, to canoeing the Canadian Boundary Waters, and even sailing the Florida Keys. Camping is enjoyable for me because it is a place of freedom, a place of relaxation, and a place where I can create memories with my family and friends. The secluded outdoors, away from cities, is a place broken away from the chains of society. Though campgrounds still have rules, the rules instituted our quite lax in both definition and enforcement. People can often do a lot more in a campground or in nature reserves than in cities or even towns. A minor example of this would be the use of bicycles, in a city bicycles need to ride in the bike lane on the right side of the road, however in a campground you can ride the bike on the road or take it off road onto the trails and explore. Though most campgrounds have rules on where you can ride your bike, the rules are not very strict nor are they very enforced. The Andrea Doria And The Collisions Of The Andrea Doria The night of July 25, 1956 the Stockholm, a Swedish passenger liner, collided into the Andrea Doria, Italian luxury liner, south of Nantucket. The collision claimed 46 lives onboard the Andrea Doria and five lives onboard the Stockholm. This was the world s first RADAR assisted collision at sea (Halpern, 2008). The fog was very dense around the Andrea Doria as it traveled west at 267 degrees true with a speed of 21.8 knots (Halpern, 2008). However, his reference to the concept that western warriors continuously triumph in war, is expressed in a manner that does not fully evaluate both perspectives of the conflict. Hanson alluded to his message behind Carnage and Culture in his thesis: A sense of personal freedom, superior discipline, matchless weapons, egalitarian camaraderie, individual initiative, constant tactical adaptations, and flexibility, preference for shock battle of heavy infantry were themselves the murderous dividend of Hellenic culture at large ... Yet for the past 2,500 years even in the Dark Ages, well before the Military Revolution, and not simply as a result of the Renaissance, the European discovery of the Americas, or the Industrial Revolution there has been a peculiar practice of Western warfare, a common foundation and continual way of fighting, that has made Europeans the most deadly soldiers the history of civilizations. (Hanson 5 6) Although Hanson is able to give an overview of valuable battles that express western confidence and reflect the west s brutal military tactics that, his analysis of the war does not ... • 24. A Comparison Of Faith And The Future Of Religion A Comparison of Faith Faith, defined as a strong belief in something which cannot be proven, has been argued over countless generations. Still, even without proof, individuals worldwide hold true to their faith each day. After studying faith and religion in texts written by scholars with varying backgrounds, it is easy to see faith is something which is widely disputed. Comparison of Sigmund Freud s The Future of an Illusion and Paul Tillich s Dynamics of Faith, fully displays the discrepancies in points of view on the function of faith, as well as the necessity of faith, in society; while the comparison of Viktor E. Frankl s Man s Search for Meaning and Karl Marx s on the Future of Religion, demonstrate both similarities and differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout his book, Tillich references faith as an ultimate concern to emphasize the importance of faith in the personality of individuals. Furthermore, Tillich believes faith is a vital part of human nature and that even the rejection of faith is, in itself, an act of faith. This displays Tillich s understanding that faith will never disappear from society because it is a piece of the puzzle in what makes up humanity (Tillich). After summarizing both arguments, discernibly Sigmund Freud and Paul Tillich would hold opposing views on both the function of faith and the future of faith. The disagreement would begin with the function of religion in society, displayed when Tillich writes, The question raised by this book is whether such belief is based on insight or on misunderstanding, and the question is unambiguously that the rejection of faith is rooted in a complete misunderstanding of the nature of faith (146). Freud believes religion is man being immature, but Tillich feels differently. Tillich perceives the rejection of faith as the misunderstanding of the true nature of faith. If Tillich and Freud were to hold a debate, Tillich would most likely discuss how Freud misunderstands faith s nature. Freud, however, would respond with a discussion about how faith is man looking for security in the world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. An Individual s Leadership Skills a) According to The Law of the Lid, an individual s leadership skills puts a cap on how effective that person will be throughout life. In other words, potential success surpass the level of leadership a person expresses. Organizations can also be impacted by The Law of the Lid; the strength of the leader(s) limits the amount of success the whole organization will have. This law was put into play in my National Honors Society in high school. During my first year, the leaders were not the best quality. The members on the board were all involved in other sports or clubs and tended to focus more on those versus NHS. They had a low leadership level, and in turn, our club had a low effectiveness and success rate. In my senior year, the leaders all changed and were more involved in NHS. We had all talked about bettering the program and progressing the organization s reputation again. Our leaders stepped up to the plate and increased the amount of activities we did for our community. These leaders had better qualities and therefore, our National Honor Society thrived. Leadership and effectiveness go hand in hand as The Law of the Lid expresses. b) Intuition is the ability to understand something immediately and comes naturally to a person. What the values based firm looks like In Cascio s book, he explains, The values based approach begins with a set of fundamental values that are energizing and capable of unlocking people s human potential values such as fun, fairness, challenge, trust, respect, community, and family (Strategic Human Resource Management, P.44). • 43. The Factors Affecting The Work Environment On Health... Literature Review In the recent years, there has been viable evidence that shows that other factors in the work environment may also be strong push factors for retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). The factors that contribute to forcing workers to leave the public sector include: workload and staff shortages are contributing to burnout, high absenteeism, stress, depression, low morale, and de motivation (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). It is also shown that poor working conditions also contributes to preventing staff morale and motivation and it also contributes directly to recruitment and retention (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg445). According to Burns, Bradley and Weiner (2012), one strategy being used to alleviate health worker shortages and to improve access and quality of health services is task shifting, or the delegation of tasks that would traditionally fall within the scope of practice of doctors or nurses to other health who have undergone shorter periods of training (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.445). In so by implementing task shifting, the work load that all nurses have to handle on a daily basis is split up with easier duties falling on other health professionals with less experience. Also another strategy of combating nursing retention is by offering nonfinancial incentives instead of financial incentives which can help to motivate workers (Burns, Bradley and Weiner, 2012, pg.444). • 46. Characterization In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst The Scarlet Ibis is a short story written by James Hurst to illustrate the difficulties of living with impairments. Hurst uses characterization by character s actions, character s speech, and character s thoughts to create meaningful characters. In this story, Hurst uses characterization by character s actions to demonstrate the life of a small, physically impaired boy. All throughout the story, Doodle works to overcome the obstacles facing him, whether it is simply walking or even running. Many children facing his predicament would simply give up, but Doodle s attempts to succeed prove that he is both courageous and tough. Also, the narrator works to help his baby brother succeed in being a normal boy, and he even goes to the extreme in pushing the weak child. This shows that the older brother is motivated to help his brother, but he lacks the care and love that he should be providing. When the older brother declares that he is going to teach Doodle to walk, his response is, I can t walk brother (Hurst 418). This shows that, in the beginning, Doodle has little hope for himself, and that he based his accomplishments off of what others thought of him. There is a wide variety of selection whether you want to live in the coast, the mountains or in one of Ecuador s bustling cities. The housing market in Ecuador is frequently proclaimed as one of the best and cheapest to retire in and has been becoming more and more popular for the last five years, with home prices appreciating annually by 10 to 12 percent. Compared to a Luxury property that would sell for somewhere around 500,000 USD with no renovation cost which would generate a ROI of almost 200% if resold at 1.5 million USD. It is estimated that after 5 10 years (possibly earlier) of letting these properties appreciate it would be more efficient to buy larger more expensive properties than many small cheaper properties. In order to get the same results with buying cheaper less expensive properties you would have to have very rapid sales or you would have to sell at a price which would be sacrificing desired returns. While it is hard to generalize, as every transaction is different typically the agents commission is 5% of the agreed up price, and all other costs (legal fees and taxes) are typically between $750 and $1,500 for a regular condo or house purchase. Annual property taxes in Ecuador are based on Assessed Value and not on the actual purchase amount. Lipsle Analysis Case Study A STEEPLE analysis is a strategic marketing tool that allows business owners to take a closer look at the external factors that could affect the day to day running of the business. The external factors a STEEPLE analysis includes are sociological, technological, economic, environmental, political, legal and ethical. After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, it was clear that sociological factors affect Leon substantially. One factor that has affected Leon is education; this is due to the new training programme, Wing Tsun, Vincent has adopted in a bid to improve performance, reduce wastage and promote staff wellbeing. Additionally, another factor that I found within the (EMA, 2016) case study was that Leon plan to open its first site outside of the UK, which will be located within Amsterdam s Schipol airport and will be the first of a few sites within northern Europe. This will impact Leon greatly as increasing the number of chain restaurants will be costly at first but then will provide further income which will boost their economic growth. After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, I found that environmental factors affect Leon but not a substantial amount. For example, Leon s new training programme, Wing Tsun, is not only a way to improve performance but also to reduce wastage. This new programme was introduced after Vincent, the co founder of Leon, stated in an interview that the purpose of business should be to make the lives of humans and the health of the planet better. Therefore, by introducing the new programme that helps reduce the wastage of Leon s restaurants, Vincent s company is helping the health of the planet. Leon may have political factors that affect their business on a day to day basis but there wasn t any relevant information in the case study regarding politics. Therefore, I can t comment on how political factors affect Leon. A legal factor that was present in the (EMA, 2016) case study was taxation, particularly the sugar tax . Leon has put the sugar tax into practice by adding an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
