In the novel and film, The Great Gatsby is about a man who had everything except the love of his life.
It truly represents the American Dream, which is having the independence and ability to make
something out of yourself if you try hard enough (The Great Gatsby Theme Of Visions Of America).
F.Scott Fitzgerald s novel and Baz Luhrmann s film of The Great Gatsby are very similar, but they do
have some differences.
The main characters are Nick Carraway, Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan, and Myrtle
Wilson. In both the film and novel, Nick is the narrator. He is a curious and quiet person. Jay Gatsby is
the man who had everything except the love of his life; her name was Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby s main
motivation in life was to find Daisy. In both the film and novel, Gatsby was a very mysterious man.
Tom Buchanan is a dishonest alcoholic in both film and novel. In chapter two, Tom pulls Nick off the
train and says, I want you to meet my girl. (Fitzgerald 24). His girl is Myrtle Wilson, she is his
mistress. Myrtle Wilson is killed by Daisy in both the film and the novel. The characters in the film
are very similar to those in the novel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Recruiting Strategies 1. What are three recruiting strategies that could be used to recruit for this job
position? a. The most common recruiting strategy is advertising in newspapers and on employment
websites. b. Networking can prove to be a great resource to find suitable candidates. c. Promoting
from within is another strong source. 2. In 350 to 500 words, compare and contrast the recruiting
strategies you have chosen. Which recruiting strategy would you use to recruit for this position? Why?
The most common recruiting strategy of seeking a candidate from internet websites is a good source
because it allows you to see a large group of candidates at one time, and you can tailor your searches
to target in on the ideal candidate. Networking, in the sense of just talking to people is also a good
source because usually in this process you will come across someone who can put you in touch with
the right people to find what you re looking for; these people come with a referral so it s not like
starting at zero and only knowing them on paper. Lastly, is hiring from within another strong route to
get the right person in place, these people are those who have a proven record with the organization.
They are easy to verify based off of in house reviews. The difference in the three is with the internets
like cold calling, where as networking is a referral and in house

The inputs and outputs within an organization are extremely important when determining if their
strategic goals and desired outcomes are being or will be achieved. This paper will continue to
examine Whole Foods through the Nadler Tushman Congruence Model; zeroing in on performance as
it relates to organization goals and outcomes based on the congruency of it outputs across the models
three levels.

organizational outputs. In addition, the following will discuss the way in which the company identifies
its groups, individual functions, and the interactions among different organizational outputs.

As mentioned earlier, financial managers within the organization such as accountants or stakeholders
could be categorized into a separate group. Whole Foods has in the past analyzed its outputs from this
group to determine its overall financial success and sustainability of company.
In 2008, Whole Foods executed the conservative growth and business strategy financial changes and
to determine success of these inputs, the financial outputs were analyzed. According to financial
output, by lowering sales volumes in turn it delivered a 16% increase in adjusted EBITDA* on a 1%
increase in sales. (Whole Foods) Financial outputs are possibly one of the most telling categories as to
a company s overall financial staying power.
Key Individual Functions
This organization consists of individuals and functions which are utilized in strategic decisions for
strategic output. An example, the Whole Foods Company faces concerns in particular to their limited
customer demographics; this is due to limited products and price outputs. In order for the organization
to compensate for the use of high end suppliers, and their expensive infrastructure, the company must
sell products at a higher cost than most of its competitors.
This would suggest a weakness within the Whole Foods organizations as it only targets consumers
who are willing to pay higher than average prices for groceries. The cost of

Why Do Instruments Have Its Own Unique Sound
Part B
Explain the difference between music and noise. Make specific reference to the musical scale.
As the hearing is one of the most important ability a person can have it has a great deal of benefits.
This allows an individual to hear sounds from a mechanical wave which is then transferred to
stimulate the hearing organs inside the body. The mechanical wave is only able to transfer energy
through a medium, the two types of waves that associate with the mechanical is both the longitudinal
and the transverse wave.
Music is a significant element in most lives it takes a role in most cultures people believe in. Music
contains a variety of elements within different genres such as the pitch, rhythm, dynamics, timbre and
the texture. Different voices and different kinds of instruments produce a variety of frequent ... Show

The group of specific notes are form by the fundamental frequency. Different scales form different
pitches which all ascend and descend on the musical scale. The musical scale represents the
equivalence between an octave, where the higher and lower octaves present the ascending and
descending frequencies of the musical scale. The octave contains either half or a full frequency where
the octave performs a series of notes.
The wave formula is v = f λ
Why do instruments have its own unique sound?
Each instrument produce a different harmonic sound. Any sound that is produced by any musical
instrument can be very complex where they contain infinite amount of sine waves of different
frequency levels, one of the most common genres is the pitch called for the fundamental frequency.
There is 3 types of complex waves associated with sound the triangle wave, sawtooth wave and the

Social Media Informative Essay
Can unethical journalists be held responsible for circulating misinformation
Journalistic ethics code and the freedom of the press are guidelines. Many reporters feel that they can
post whatever they want, on Social media, without doing thorough research and/or verifying
information. As a consequence, this false media , can cause confusion , fear, or cast unneeded
attention onto a certain topic. Some even have nefarious agendas to cause fear and confusion and/or
control of society(opposing governments). Is posting inaccurate and inflammatory information on
social media websites like, facebook, snapchat, and Youtube... violating the Journalistic code of
ethics? We all have the right to accurate, fair and thorough media. Should reporters that are aware of
the whole story be held liable for editing information for the purpose of deception? False statements of
fact may generally be punished if they are knowing lies, though generally not if they are honest
mistakes (even unreasonable mistakes). There are, however, some situations where even honest
mistakes can be punished, and a few were even intentional lies are protected. When Orson Well s aired
a mock u.f.o. Invasion on live radio that many believed to be truth, he inadvertently caused a panic.
Looking back at this event I have laughed; thinking of those silly people not able to tell that it was
makebelieve. Now when I read articles I can truly, understand how they could have been confused.

Mysterious Crop Circles Essay
In this world, there are so many mysteries, secrets, and phenomenon that have not been explained. For
the last few decades, crop circles have been appearing all around the world, yet we do not have a clear
scientific explanation for them. Crop circles are defined as some kind of circular geometric patterns on
crops such as wheat, barley, and corn, (Meder 2007). They are made within a very short period of time
without any mistakes. There are over 12,000 circles found with complicated patterns and large in
scale, (Crystalinks 2009) Many of the crop circles were found to be a manmade, but we cannot
conclude that rests of them are hoaxed by man. People are still debating on this mystery circle, yet
there are no answers. This paper will explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People refer to the years between the mid 1990s and the early 21st century as the Golden Years of
Crop Circle because more people were able to experience the real sight of crop circles. With help of
fast communication and travel technologies, people can see crop circles first hand and they have
stopped considering crop circles as worthless propaganda. Still, a majority of people still believe that
crop circles are fake instead of trying to find information about crop circles. However, more people
have gotten involved and interested in crop circles, and they are spreading the word as time goes by.
Creators of Crop Circle Who are the creators of crop circles? This matter is probably the most
sensitive and debatable topic related to crop circles. Researchers found out that there are only two
possible explanations that they can think of, which are humans and aliens. According to
Cropcircleresearch (2009), 80% of the crop circles were found to be made by humans, and it describes
that manmade crop circles have broken crops unlike the other 20% of the crop circles that remains in
mystery has bend crops. The problem we face in current society is that we are manipulated to believe
extra terrestrial beings do not exist in the first place. Christianity is one of the biggest and widely

Problems in Haiti
(1) Statement of Issue/Problem:
Haiti which is labeled as a developing country ranked 146th among 177 countries in the UN Human
Development Index for 2007/2008 suffers from the issues related to health care, population and
freedoms of women for several decades. The legality of abortion in Haiti is a significant issue which
plays a major role which can be associated with the problems in health care, population dynamics and
freedoms of women.
The questions about the abortion has started to take an increasing attention on the political agenda in
Latin America and Caribbean countries which can be described as the home to world s most restrictive
abortion laws (Yam et al. 2006: 225). Implementation of restrictive abortion laws can be attributed to
the existence of a legacy of a colonial jurisprudence especially for the Caribbean countries including
Haiti (Pheterson Azize 2005:44). Thus, in order to evaluate the issue of prohibition of abortion in Haiti
accurately, the influence of European laws on abortion providers is going to be taken into
consideration in the content of the paper.
The relevance of the influence of legality of abortion on the development of Haiti is associated with
the notion of freedoms of people to apply for abortion and a lack of health care resulting from the
illegal and unhealthy ways that women apply for abortion. To clarify, illegality of abortion in Haiti
restrains the freedoms of people, suppresses Haitian women and causes a lack of health care

members share a common interest in which they seek to influence public policy, without seeking
political control. They have primary activities such as lobbying the members of the legislative bodies
through contributions to political parties, trying to elect sympathetic or pliable politicians, and by
conducting covert or open propaganda campaigns. (Interest Groups, n.d.) There are a few different
types of interest groups and they are as follows:

(1) They seek to win elections or electoral positions; (2) they reorganize around those periodic
elections and then may become less active, and (3) they depend on the local mobilization of voters
who support political candidates but not necessarily the party organization. Interest groups are more
issue oriented, are continuously maintained, and are dependent on supporters who identify with their
organization. (Browne, n.d.) One thing that differentiates political parties from interest groups arises
from the nature of the political system in which they operate and from the various electoral rules and
structures that exist in different countries. In corporatist societies, interest groups may be invited to
participate in government decisions to the exclusion of competitor interests. In parliamentary system,
a party may have a narrow base and may try to win only a small number of legislative seats. (Browne,
n.d.)
Explain how interest groups try to influence the president and Congress as these two branches work
together to make policy. Trying to persuade government officials through direct inside contact is
called the inside game. Lobbying is another term for inside game. Lobbyists normally work for a
specific interest group, corporation, or law firm that specializes in professional lobbying. (Interest
Groups, 2012) Lobbying originates from the way interest groups played the inside games in the

Since the end of the last century, the development of modern technology and science has played a
significant role as measure to resolve energy crisis and global warming issues which resulted in life
sustaining remedies and causes of mass destruction. However, many scientists agree that the earth s
fossil fuel supplies are dramatically depleting and this challenge will be a meaningful hurdle for future
generations. Therefore, many countries may need to find new productive energy sources in order to
tackle this problem. Many proponents of nuclear power suggest that the benefits of nuclear power

This essay will argue that nuclear power will not be a sustainable energy source of 21st century for
three main reasons. These include high cost of generating nuclear power, health effects of radiation
and long term impact of radioactive waste on the environment as well as present its disadvantages and
compare it to renewable energy sources of solar power and wind power.
Public perception on nuclear energy is much influenced by subjective impressions mostly formed
through sensational and dramatic news of mass media or anti nuclear groups. However, nuclear
experts, those who have more relevant knowledge and information about nuclear energy, may have
reasonable opinion based on scientific facts or inferences. Thus their opinion and consensus should be
examined and taken into account during the process of nuclear energy policy formulation. For the
purpose of eliciting experts opinion, the web based on line survey system (eBOSS) was developed.
Using the survey system, experts views on nuclear energy were tallied, analyzed and compared with
the public s. Based on the survey results, the paper suggests some recommendations about the future
direction of the public information program in Korea.
First of all, it would appear that the obvious drawback of nuclear power is its high economic cost such

Desalination
Imagine a world where seawater is the primary source of drinking water for almost all countries. This
water could provide towns and cities with safe, regulation abiding nourishment, equipped with all the
minerals and purifiers added to modern drinking water. Of course, drinking straight seawater day after
day would not only taste unpleasant, it would be harmful to a person s body. The briny mixture would
have to be filtered and treated in processes similar to how wastewater is treated. But wastewater does
not contain nearly as much saline as seawater, so an additional process must be put into place to fully
treat seawater that is to be turned into safe drinking water. This process is called desalination, and it is
already being put into practice in several different areas around the world. It has helped pull countries
out of droughts and other natural disasters. Desalination is not flawless, however, and more research
on cost, environmental impacts, and energy efficiency, needs to be conducted before considering it a
sustainable drinking water system that the entire world can rely on. As mentioned previously,
desalination is the process in which salt is removed from water (DVS Marketing). While this process
sounds fairly modern, it is not a new technology: the first official use was in 1791; this was shared in a

Smart Growth Initiative in the Face of NJ Landscape Change
The face of the American landscape has undergone a period of fantastic change in recent decades.
With an expanding population and innumerable opportunities for economic and physical growth,
urban centers and sprawling suburbs have pushed farther and farther into outlying areas causing
pressures and development on previously untouched, natural lands. New Jersey has become, in many
ways, the focus in dealing with issues of sprawl and development within its relatively small space.
The most densely populated state in the nation, New Jersey often acts as a predecessor in both having

The initiative itself is a bold step in the right general direction made by a group that, perhaps, bears
some of the greatest responsibility in deciding how the future American landscape will look and feel
to those who inhabit it. Unfortunately, where much is gained, it is often easy to overstep in trying to
reach a point and, in turn, miss the important details. The National Association of Home Builders cites
the United States Department of Agriculture in claiming that the amount of land used in the nation
today for growing crops is virtually identical to 50 years ago and losing farmland to urban uses does
not threaten total cropland or the level of agricultural production. Albeit an optimistic prospect to the
easy observer, this may be all well and fine for the landscape of the entire United States, but the whole
is nothing without its essential parts. New Jersey, because of its dense urban and suburbanized
population and plentiful but limited resources, is at the forefront of land use/land planning in the 21st
century with some buildout analyses speculating that the state has little more than ten years before
reaching maxing out it s habitable area. As such, New Jersey is a prime example of why the National
Association of Home Builders claim that the net total acreage of agricultural land in the United States
is misleading as it does not consider

Examples Of Egalitarianism In America
Most people think of America as the land of the free . From the outside it may seem like America has
many freedoms. However, if those who do not live in American could see America from a different
view, they may not like some of the injustices this country brings upon some of its citizens. When I
think of injustices I look at it as the unfair treatment brought on to someone, who has no reason to be
treated unequally. Unfair treatment in this country, mainly stems comes from the police officers that
are put into power; those who are supposed to be here to help, serve and protect are those who most of
us are afraid of today. Most citizens want to view law enforcement as courageous, fearless,
respectable, and honest individuals. Unfortunately, for a countless number of officers this does not
hold true; because there are many officers that tend to destroy this concept with their reckless
behavior. Lately, police brutality has become a major issue in America; due to improper training, the
use of excessive force against minorities, and America s broken system for justice, as police officers
are not being held accountable for their actions.
The concept egalitarianism can be a little difficult to understand at first, because there are many
different ways to define this concept. The basic idea around egalitarianism is people should get the
same, or be treated the same, or be treated as equals, in some respect (Encyclopedia of Philosophy).
There are different ways to define equal

king just as previous kings had done. The French army s heavy armor, cavalry, and overconfidence
had led to their downfall in this battle, even though they outnumbered the English army (Curry 10). If
the army had instead used their numbers more efficiently to overpower the English and advance their
style of warfare, then the results would have been different. As stated in Battle of Agincourt , The
English stood their ground as French knights, weighed down by their heavy armor, began a slow
advance across the muddy battlefield. The French were met by a furious bombardment of artillery
from the English archers (Battle of Agincourt np). A slow army would be easy to target and dwindle
their numbers because the English archers could halt a cavalry charge from a distance. It was a time of
change for the English and their army while the French army still used the feudal system of knights in
this battle. Evidently, the feudal system was becoming obsolete as a result in the disadvantages it
presented. Without England s advancement, the smaller army most likely would have not been able to
capture more duchies of France. Possibly, the French army might have stopped the war entirely earlier
on. Instead, the French stubbornly held onto traditional style of warfare that cost them battles against
modern warfare tactics and the Hundred Years War

How Batman (Dark Knight Trilogy) is a Failed Hero Essay
Everyone knows who Batman is. Batman has many different monikers, from The Dark Knight to
Gotham s White Light He is the hero of Gotham City. However, he is not the perfect superhero.
Whenever he is fighting a villian such as the Joker and Bane, his methods are unorthodox to the
average superhero. The way Batman fights crime, destroying the enviroment to do whatever it takes to
stop the villian, and involving collateral damage, makes him a failed hero. Batman s vengance starts
out in Batman Begins. As a young boy, Bruce witnessed his parents getting killed by Joe Chill, and

When Buffett made a decision in expanding into insurance, the insurance industry was a booming

competitors. Again this proves his market acumen and visionary ability which helped to see future

After Warren Buffett converted Berkshire Hathaway from a textile to an insurance company, he started
doing strategic acquisition. Initially he looked for reinsurance companies in the United States that had

Who Is The Hero In Willa Cather s My Mortal Enemy
My Mortal Enemy was written by Willa Cather in the early 1900s. She wrote this novella after dealing
with S.S. and Hattie McClure. She actually worked for McClure at one time, and this is when she
experienced their lives the most. After learning all about their lives, she decided to write about them.
In substitution of the McClures she used the Henshawes. Myra and Oswald Henshawe had a very
similar relationship to the McClures. It started with happiness, started going downhill, and then ended
with sympathy and regret. All of the regret and sympathy revolves around Myra. Myra lives a self
centered life, and is her own mortal enemy, which eventually leads to her death. This novella is

Stefanie on somanybooksblog.com says Myra s jealously and insecurity cause the problems in her and
Oswald s marriage. She says that Oswald and Myra love each other, but are only staying together to
hold on to what they once had ( So Many Books ). Stefanie is certainly right because all the problems
revolve around Myra s jealously and insecurity. She expects the world from Oswald, and does not
appreciate the slightest thing he does for her. Another example comes from a blog on wordpress.com.
The individual says that Myra is the enemy, and her negativity and reckless actions cause her madness
and regret ( Tales from the Reading Room ). This could not be any truer. All of her regret is her own
fault, not because of anyone else. In conclusion, Myra definitely lives a self centered life, and is her
own mortal enemy, which eventually leads to her death. She has a very selfish demeanor to her, and
gives Oswald a hard time. There is no pleasing Myra, because she only keeps asking for more. When
Myra came down with her sickness, her self centered personality hurt her even more. This is what
eventually leads her to her death in front of the sea. Overall, many people choose Myra as her own
mortal enemy, but is there another way to look at it? It is hard to go against choosing Myra because of

Patriarchy dominated in the nineteenth century and women were considered to be the property of their
husbands, without rights, land, or even the option to choose how to live their lives. The editor of The
Heath Anthology of American Literature, Paul Lauter explained that during the early nineteenth
century, white middle classed women had more leisure and education than their mothers or
grandmothers which enabled them to become a large audience; nevertheless, their opportunities for
meaningful work apart from childbearing, their ability to control their own property or even their own
persons had probably narrowed since the Revolution (Lauter 1460). White women became more
educated but remained inferior to men at this point in history. Lauter ... Show more content on

Jacobs bravely tells her story about escaping slavery with her children. She was the first writer to
show the grisly details of slavery and discuss sexual abuse. Jacobs criticizes herself for getting
pregnant to get out of the sexual abusive relationship of her slave owner by saying I felt as if I was
forsaken by God and man; as if all my efforts must be frustrated; and I became reckless in my despair
(Jacobs 2194). Jacobs had to hide for almost seven years in her grandmother s attic in attempt to gain
her and her children s freedom from their former slave owners (Yellin 2185). In 1852, Mrs. Willis, a

her story to open people s eyes to what slavery really was.
Harriet Ann Jacobs helped start a movement of anti slavery writing that, through literature, would

Popularity Of Chain Supermarkets Are Monopolizing The Market
1. How would you describe your knowledge of proliferation of chain supermarkets?
The rate of proliferation of chain supermarkets is very fast and the number of branches increased
rapidly.
2. Do you think chain supermarkets are monopolizing the market? If so, in what ways?
Chain supermarkets are absolutely monopolizing the market. Chain supermarkets own nearly all of the
market and many small sized grocery stores have to wind up their business as the turnover is
insufficient for the expenditure. Other small sized enterprises like fruit stores also suffer hard in the
sluggish competition with chain supermarkets and the income is reduced. A barrier is formed for
others to enter the retail industry and the space for small sized enterprises to survive in the market is
very small.

The development capacity of the chain supermarkets is obviously higher. The turnover rate of a small

limited capital, grocery shops cannot follow suit. Thus, most consumers would tends to shop in a

Effective Use of Dialogue in The Sacrifice of Isaac Essay
Effective Use of Dialogue in The Sacrifice of Isaac
In the Brome version of The Sacrifice of Isaac, the suspense created by the emotionally charged
dialogue is likely what kept the audience s attention. While it is incredibly likely that the audience
knew the entire story, the emotional flavor of the dialogue, such as Abraham s innocent expressions of
his love of and thankfulness for Isaac at the beginning of the play, is bound to evoke a certain concern

The playwright is open with regards to God s reason in asking for the sacrifice of the most useful and
beloved of Abraham s sons. As He says in lines 33 34, I schall asay now his good will, / Whether he
lovith better his child or me. In other words, God is jealous, an emotion that I find badly suited to an
omnipotent deity, but that the Old Testament emphasizes as one of God s primary motivations.
When the angel first tells Abraham of God s wishes, Abraham states that he has never begrudged God
anything, and although it pains him greatly, he will not begrudge God the sacrifice of his son. When
he makes this speech, it appears that Abraham is accepting his fate with a brave face and a pounding
heart, hoping that his bold acceptance of something he obviously feels is wrong will cause God to
back down from his request. At this point, the audience, too, stands with brave faces and pounding
hearts, waiting to hear God s acknowledgement of Abraham s acceptance. I certainly found myself
mimicking Abraham s stance, gripping my book in the delicate but powerful hold of one who is
anxious and uncertain. Will God go through with it? I asked myself, unable to peel my eyes from the
pages and realise that I knew how this story was constructed. I imagine that the sensation is even
stronger if the play is watched instead of read.

Not Another Pledge Death Essay
Greek Life, or the presence of fraternities and sororities, exists in many colleges and universities.
According to Michael Grandillo in an Encyclopedia article, there are more than 5,500 chapters on 800

in such organizations can be a controversial topic, particularly when critics suggest that hazing can be
detrimental to students health and college careers. For those who do not know much about Greek Life,

Carrington was pronounced dead from water intoxication, which caused his brain and lungs to swell.
Korry reports that similar hazing related deaths have occurred at least once a year for over three
decades. Evidently, not all Greek organizations have upheld a safe, educational, and life changing
pledge process that they often promise. In addition, many students fear that pledging a fraternity or
sorority will cause their grades to suffer tremendously for a semester. In reality, this is a matter of
ignorance, for most Greek organizations designate certain hours where their pledges must be in the
library to do their work or study. If pledges decide not to capitalize on these library hours, then it
would be their own fault, rather than the fault of the organization, for their poor performance. Despite
these potential risks, students can benefit greatly from participating in Greek Life. Although some
students are aware of the benefits that Greek life has to offer, others join Greek organizations merely
for the social status that comes along with wearing letters, or to add a line to their resumes. In my
opinion, those who pledge a Greek organization learn many life skills that will prove to be
advantageous for the rest of their lives. Students that are timid often become more outgoing after
pledging, because certain pledging tasks involve talking to and meeting new people.

The Death Penalty, A Reason for Recidivism Essay
The legal definition of the death penalty is a sentence of execution for the crime including murder and
some other capital crimes; serious crimes, especially murder, which are punishable by death. The
earliest proof of the death penalty dates back to the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the Code of King
Hammurabi of Babylon in which 25 crimes were codified. In 1972, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that
the death penalty was cruel and unusual punishment, and stated in the eighth amendment would mean
it was unconstitutional. The opinion of current methods of execution such as hanging, electrocution,
and facing a firing were thought to be painfully slow, some sort of torture. In 1976 the U.S. Supreme

And even though only three people have been executed under the federal death penalty in the modern
era, two of them have been racial minorities. Next, the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People had the biggest argument against the death penalty they said it is handed out in a
biased, racially disparate manner. Within the group of these individuals there are more women than
men and they are typically in their twenties. It is said that poverty breeds crime, and the poor are
disproportionately minority, then it must follow that minorities will be overrepresented among
criminals. Capital punishment in the United States is administered in an economically discriminatory
way (Johnson). The wealth disparity between those murderers who live and those who die constitutes
a serious constitutional challenge to the permissibility of the death penalty. Furthermore, our society
fails to ensure some impression of economic equality within this harsh penalty and is inconsistent with
the Eighth Amendment. Our U.S. Supreme Court has not responded to considering the issues of the
social class and their wealth. Racial or ethnic threat theories suggest that enhanced minority presence

kinds of films were produced for each of these segments? The first one was the teen audience
segment, which proved to have higher spending powers because of their disposable income that they

Romer, Daniel, Hall Jamieson, Kathleen Aday, Sean 2003, Television News and the Cultivation of
Fear of Crime , Journal of communication, vol. 53, pp. 88 104.
Topic
This paper explores the concept of cultivation theory and the way in which violent programming on
television can instil fear and influence perceptions when it comes to experiencing crime in the
community. In using research findings to explore their hypothesis, the authors focus on analyzing data
which underpins their prediction that television viewers are influenced to believe in a social reality, in
this case a life threatened by crime, incongruous or actual crime rates.
Context
The context of this paper fits neatly within a number of fields and disciplines spanning

Stress and Cancer
Introduction
The human body is an intricately interlinked organism. Every system of the body has a role to play in
the well being of the other. The most prevalent disease of the modern age is cancer, and there has been
considerable effort to determine the causes of cancer. Substantial research in this regard point to stress
being one of the leading causes of cancer.
The Impact of Stress on Cancer Cancer, medically called tumorigenesis (Thaker, Lutgendorf, Sood,
2007, p.430) occurs when cells in the body orient themselves for malignant growth. Such cells show
self sufficiency in growth signals , are insensitive to anti growth signals and have limitless replicative
potential (Thaker, Lutgendorf, Sood, 2007, p.430). Once a particular set of cells become malignant,
the malignancy can spread to other set of cells in different organs due to crosstalk between the affected
cells and their surrounding tissues and micro environments (Thaker, Lutgendorf, Sood, 2007, p.430).
Current research is focusing on the role of neuropeptides and neurotransmitters in the occurrence of
cancer. Researchers have observed that cancerous cells require nutrients and the diffusion of oxygen to
proliferate malignantly. In this aspect, stress related hormones act as inhibitors or stimulants to
cancerous growth depending upon the type of hormone and the type of cancer. It has been established

The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics
The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a
semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early
eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or
purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and
barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and
prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and
preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood
feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish
appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church
deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society. This is another example of how the
Christianization of Russia started to shape politics and the culture of Russia specifically from some of
the earliest times of Russian society. (133, Engelstein) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These church people were under the church s jurisdiction and direct control and included monks, the
clergy, church employees and their families, among others. (134, Engelstein) From its inception, the
church served as a social welfare organization for the weakest and least fortunate elements of society
who were threatened by death or slavery in these barbaric times. In this instance, the church acted as
guardian as well as the government. This is yet another example of the construction of influence the
church had in shaping Russian culture and government. (134,

Teva Pharmacuetical
Christopher Gibbs Business 481 Case Analysis 11 14 2011 Teva Pharmaceutical Current Strategic
Profile More than 100 years ago Teva Pharmaceuticals opened their doors as a wholesale drug
distributor in Jerusalem. Today they have become the world s leading producer of generic
pharmaceuticals. Revenue has grown from $91 million in 1985 to $8.5 billion in 2006. This growth
has not been easy and derives from key strategic decisions made along the way in order to amass these
huge dollars amounts. Teva s mission is to play a leading role in the transformation of the healthcare
system through the development, manufacture and marketing of generic pharmaceuticals. Teva s
organizational structure is a symbol of their fundamental business ... Show more content on

Two important provisions came out of this act that gave Teva a powerful position. First, the ANDA
process, which cut the drug approval time down considerably, and Paragraph IV . Paragraph IV
allowed generic companies to challenge innovative drugs long before patent expiration. Teva was able
to capitalize on Paragraph IV because of the rate of which they could file an ANDA under a Paragraph
IV challenge. Gross margins for the first generic company in the exclusive 180 day period were as
high as 70% 90%. On the contrary, Teva has not been as successful in markets outside the United
States. The United Kingdom and the Netherlands are the most competitive markets for Teva given
their similarities to the U.S. structure. Other countries like Germany and France are slightly different
in that these countries are physician driven in which pharmacists cannot use generic substitutes at their
discretion. Physician driven markets leave Teva in a precarious position. They must either wait for the
market to conform to their style or allow other players take a position in the European market. This
causes generic companies to spend more on advertising, as they must appeal to physicians. These two
countries are some of the largest markets in both size and potential. Teva s strengths in their internal
environment have been a major player in helping the company reach the

America’s Domination of the Film Industry
Looking at the film industry as we now know it, it s hard to imagine that America wasn t always the
film producing machine we see it as now. Yet, when we begin looking at all the technological
advances that took place in film over time and the events which occurred during these periods, it was a
complex journey. In the following essay we are going to discuss why I believe that the wars faced both
foreign and domestic played the biggest factor in the American Film industry s rise to dominance by
the 1950s.
Birth of Film:
As with all things it s probably best to start with the beginning; the birth of film. Eadweard Muybridge
was hired in 1872 to capture images of a horse running to settle a debate as to whether all four feet of
a horse were off the ground at the same time while trotting. Little did he know that by capturing these
images he eventually would spark the invention of the kinetscope by Thomas Edison in the 1880s.
By the late 1890s movies could be projected onto a screen and audiences finally were able to attend
public demonstrations. In 1905 the world s first nickelodeon devoted to film exhibition was opened in
Pittsburgh, PA by Harry Davis. Nickelodeons (named for both the price of admission and the Greek
word for theater ) soon spread across the country, the number of nickelodeons reached around 8000
between 1907 and 1908, and by 1910 it was estimated that as many as 26 million Americans visited
these theaters every week.
World War I:
From about 1910 American

candidate for the school with the help from Granville Early College High School and everything they
have done to prepare me for the college life. The acceptance call I got from Granville Early College
High School my 8th grade summer, is a memorable day. My mind was everywhere because I was so
excited and so nervous to make that choice in whether I was going or not, with the motivation of
family I made the right decision. This was an meaningful event, experience and accomplishment all

  • 2. Differences And Similarities Between Myrtle Wilson And The... In the novel and film, The Great Gatsby is about a man who had everything except the love of his life. It truly represents the American Dream, which is having the independence and ability to make something out of yourself if you try hard enough (The Great Gatsby Theme Of Visions Of America). F.Scott Fitzgerald s novel and Baz Luhrmann s film of The Great Gatsby are very similar, but they do have some differences. The legality of abortion in Haiti is a significant issue which plays a major role which can be associated with the problems in health care, population dynamics and freedoms of women. The questions about the abortion has started to take an increasing attention on the political agenda in Latin America and Caribbean countries which can be described as the home to world s most restrictive abortion laws (Yam et al. 2006: 225). Implementation of restrictive abortion laws can be attributed to the existence of a legacy of a colonial jurisprudence especially for the Caribbean countries including Haiti (Pheterson Azize 2005:44). Research Paper On Desalination Desalination Lyndsey Parnell Mrs. O Sullivan English III 2 March 2016 Lyndsey Parnell Mrs. O Sullivan English III 2 March 2016 Desalination Imagine a world where seawater is the primary source of drinking water for almost all countries. This water could provide towns and cities with safe, regulation abiding nourishment, equipped with all the minerals and purifiers added to modern drinking water. Of course, drinking straight seawater day after day would not only taste unpleasant, it would be harmful to a person s body. The briny mixture would have to be filtered and treated in processes similar to how wastewater is treated. But wastewater does not contain nearly as much saline as seawater, so an additional process must be put into place to fully treat seawater that is to be turned into safe drinking water. This process is called desalination, and it is already being put into practice in several different areas around the world. It has helped pull countries out of droughts and other natural disasters. Desalination is not flawless, however, and more research on cost, environmental impacts, and energy efficiency, needs to be conducted before considering it a sustainable drinking water system that the entire world can rely on. England s king, Henry V, intended to conquer more French land and capture the throne as the rightful king just as previous kings had done. The French army s heavy armor, cavalry, and overconfidence had led to their downfall in this battle, even though they outnumbered the English army (Curry 10). If the army had instead used their numbers more efficiently to overpower the English and advance their style of warfare, then the results would have been different. As stated in Battle of Agincourt , The English stood their ground as French knights, weighed down by their heavy armor, began a slow advance across the muddy battlefield. The French were met by a furious bombardment of artillery from the English archers (Battle of Agincourt np). A slow army would be easy to target and dwindle their numbers because the English archers could halt a cavalry charge from a distance. It was a time of change for the English and their army while the French army still used the feudal system of knights in this battle. Evidently, the feudal system was becoming obsolete as a result in the disadvantages it presented. She actually worked for McClure at one time, and this is when she experienced their lives the most. After learning all about their lives, she decided to write about them. In substitution of the McClures she used the Henshawes. Myra and Oswald Henshawe had a very similar relationship to the McClures. It started with happiness, started going downhill, and then ended with sympathy and regret. All of the regret and sympathy revolves around Myra. In addition, many students fear that pledging a fraternity or sorority will cause their grades to suffer tremendously for a semester. In reality, this is a matter of ignorance, for most Greek organizations designate certain hours where their pledges must be in the library to do their work or study. • 40. Stress And Cancer Of Cancer Stress and Cancer Name Class Stress and Cancer Introduction The human body is an intricately interlinked organism. Every system of the body has a role to play in the well being of the other. The most prevalent disease of the modern age is cancer, and there has been considerable effort to determine the causes of cancer. Substantial research in this regard point to stress being one of the leading causes of cancer. The Impact of Stress on Cancer Cancer, medically called tumorigenesis (Thaker, Lutgendorf, Sood, 2007, p.430) occurs when cells in the body orient themselves for malignant growth. Such cells show self sufficiency in growth signals , are insensitive to anti growth signals and have limitless replicative potential (Thaker, Lutgendorf, Sood, 2007, p.430). Once a particular set of cells become malignant, the malignancy can spread to other set of cells in different organs due to crosstalk between the affected cells and their surrounding tissues and micro environments (Thaker, Lutgendorf, Sood, 2007, p.430). Current research is focusing on the role of neuropeptides and neurotransmitters in the occurrence of cancer. Researchers have observed that cancerous cells require nutrients and the diffusion of oxygen to proliferate malignantly. In this aspect, stress related hormones act as inhibitors or stimulants to cancerous growth depending upon the type of hormone and the type of cancer. It has been established that  agnostic ... The Church s Role In Ancient Russian Society And Politics The church s role in ancient Russian society and politics was also significant since it encountered a semi pagan society with many barbarian practices and crude customs in the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. These included a primitive form of marriage in which the wife was abducted or purchased, polygamy, slavery, blood feuds and many other rituals society would deem cruel and barbaric today. (131, Engelstein) While the church did not immediately eliminate ingrained habits and prejudices, it gradually imparted new ideas and attitudes by educating people, changing morals, and preparing the people to accept new standards. The church opposed barbaric customs such as blood feuds and, together with secular leaders, attempted to formulate judicial norms and establish appropriate punishments that fit the nature of and reasons for crimes. In these actions, the church deeply penetrated the legal and moral foundations of society.
