Girl, Interrupted, By Film Starring Winona Ryder And...
Girl, Interrupted is a 1999 drama film starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie that is based off of
Susanna Kaysen s memoir of the same name that documented her stay in a mental institution during
the 1960 s. In the film, Susanna s character displays many symptoms of some form of mental illness
ranging from impulsivity to a suicide attempt. In the beginning of the movie, Susanna is rushed to the
hospital after overdosing on aspirin and vodka; Susanna, in denial about her own mental state,
declares often throughout the early parts of the film that she took the aspirin because she had a
headache , refusing to acknowledge that she had attempted suicide. In addition to her apparent
suicidality, Susanna engaged in self harm behaviors, shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The broad range of symptoms that Susanna demonstrated during the film makes it hard to pinpoint an
exact diagnosis for her.
Given the symptoms Susanna presented, including instability in relationships, impulsivity, suicidality
and self harm, negative affect, and feelings of emptiness; a diagnosis of Borderline Personality
Disorder (BPD) seems most likely. A diagnosis of depression also seems fairly likely due to Susanna s
low mood and thoughts of suicide; however, this diagnosis did not completely map onto the symptoms
that Susanna presented throughout the film. The depressive symptoms she experienced were also
symptoms of her personality disorder, perhaps suggesting a comorbidity. In the film, the age of onset
for Susanna s BPD was around 18 years old, which fits within the framework for diagnosing
personality disorders, as personality disorders are not usually diagnosed until the patient reaches
adulthood. The first episode that Susanna experienced was very severe, leading her to attempt suicide,
this episode extended into the beginning of her stay at Claymoore, and could be triggered by stresses
in her environment. The episode then decreased in severity as time passed and as she received
treatment, which was multifaceted and tailored to her individual

Abstract Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) play main role in the design and development of the
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) who improves the road safety and transportation productivity.
VANETs include two communication types i.e. Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Roadside
(V2R) communications. One of the most important challenges of this kind of network are the timely,
safely and reliable dissemination of messages between vehicular nodes which permits the drivers to
take appropriate decisions to improve the road safety. There are many routing protocols for VANETs
which can support the reliability and safety for routing. These protocols undergo the several
limitations including complexity, lack of scalability, end to end delay, routing overheads, etc. To
remove these limitations, various bio inspired methodologies have been proposed for routing among
vehicular nodes in an optimized way. Here in this paper, various bio inspired routing algorithms for
the VANET are discussed.

The History Of The Sicarii And Hashshahin
The history of terrorism goes back as far as the 11Th century. The Sicarii and the Hashshahin were a
group of assassins. The Sicarii were thought to be followers of Judas of Galillee that operated within
Jerusalem. Their tactics included selective, symbolic assassinations; more general assassination along
with destruction or plundering of the property of the wealthy and powerful; and kidnapping (Horsley
1979,439). The Hashshashin or assassins were secretive set emerging around the 11Th century that
had ties to Iran and Syria. Also known as the order of assassins, these individual, like the Sicarii, were
associated with carrying out attacks against those in power (Horsley 1979, 439). These two groups
might not fit today s standard of terrorism,

Tomorrow When The War Began By John Marsden
In Tomorrow When the War Began, John Marsden uses many narrative features to make Ellie s World
real for readers. Setting and themes are both vital to the plot, as well as the overall atmosphere of the
story.
The main themes in Tomorrow When the War Began are ambiguity, friendships, and personal growth.
These themes both make the story relatable to readers, and forces them out of their comfort zone. The
setting of the novel, at least for Australian readers, is incredibly familiar and real.
The places and culture John Marsden describes is uniquely Australian. Australian readers would
usually have trouble seeing a war situation as real and relating it to their own lives, but with Australia
as the backdrop, this book makes it much easier to envision. The setting is very important to the plot
of Tomorrow When The War Began, as the bush that surrounds Wirrawee provides a hideout for Ellie
and her friends when they are invaded. John Marsden describes the setting of the book with immense,
realistic detail, so much so that the scenery becomes it s own character that plays vital roles in many
key scenes of the book, such as the blowing up of the bridge, or the camping trips into Hell. ... Show

The characteristics of the foreign soldiers fit the criteria for no country on earth, which gives the
impression that the story could be happening to anyone. This is a clever tactic as it avoids pointing the
finger at any one country by writing them as military invaders, while exploring concepts like privilege
and race within Australia. This is highlighted in a scene where the protagonists are discussing the
recent invasion, and Robyn mentions how she can see how someone in a developing country would be
angry at the wealth that Australians refuse to share with near by

Pediatric Nurse Advantages And Disadvantages
The things I know about being a pediatric nurse is they are nurses that deal with children. They care
for children all the way through their adolescents. To become one you are required to get your
registered nurse license. You can get your associates or you can earn your bachelor s degree. They
earn an average of $33.23 and hour, depending on how experienced you are. I know that becoming a
nurse has a lot of pros and cons. From getting accepted into nursing school to studying your butt off to
make good grades. I would love to know more about other nurses experience with becoming a nurse
and how it has affected their lives. I would also like to know more about the things nurses are required
to do and what a usual day at the hospital is like. Pediatric Nurse At any moment of the day a child is
brought into this world. In order to make sure these babies stay healthy, pediatric nurses are hired to
care for the children. Pediatric nurses have a high responsibility in the medical field. They work with
children until their adulthood, they provide screenings, and help with childhood diseases. There are
many advantages as well as disadvantages in becoming a pediatric nurse. Their are very important
steps into becoming a pediatric nurse as well. Although there are many advantages there are also
several disadvantages to this job. Such as dealing with emotional stress. Pediatric nurses work with
babies most of the time so it is very rare for them not to get attach to them. It can be

Importance Of Bilingual Education
Bilingualism has been always a part of the U.S. history. In the early days of exploration and
colonization, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German were as common as English. No doubt many of the
inhabitants were conversant in more than two languages. Underlining the importance of the bilingual
education in United States there are many different types of educational programs that exist for
emergent bilinguals. The historical concept of these programs shows the shift from a focus on the
home language and toward English only instruction.
As Ovando (2003) writes The 18th and 19th century responses to language diversity were shaped by
changing localized political, social, and economic forces rather than by any systematic ideas about
language itself (p. 4). 1700s to the 1880s were a time frame where a fair amount of tolerance neglect
existed toward the many languages. 1880s were the turning point in the historical development of
linguistic and restrictions in immigration policy.
Civil Rights Act Title VI and Bilingual Education Act Title VII are two examples of the rebirth of
bilingual education. Civil Rights Act Title VI prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and
national origin, prohibits denial of equal access to education due to limited English proficiency.
Bilingual Education Act Title VII recognizes the unique educational disadvantages faced by non
English speaking students, establish a federal policies to assist educational agencies, to serve students

Who Was Left Unanswered In Apollo 13
Apollo 13 is a movie where many questions were left unanswered. That could possibly be that the
director wanted us to know what the astronauts knew to to make it more realistic. This movie uses
astronomy and problem solving to solve many of these unanswered questions. In this essay I will be
discussing the following issues; How the astronauts found out about the explosion, some of the
problems that came with the explosion, whether it is worth the risk to send humans into space, and
what knowledge we have gained by going into space. When Jack Swaggert went to stir the oxygen
tanks, a malfunction occurred and there was an unknown explosion on one of the tanks. They were
able to figure out that there was a malfunction by watching the oxygen tank levels and watch them
drop. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lack of power was from the extensive power use during the period after the explosion and the
electrical problem in the wiring. They were able to deal with this by shutting down many systems to
get the amperage lower that the rate they are getting from the batteries. The lack of heat came from
this issue as well. They were forced to shut down the heaters when they lost lots of electrical and fuel
power. This caused great discomfort for the astronauts and it could have impacted some of the
equipment on board. The explosion also caused a guidance issue due to the thrust coming from the
explosion, the loss of some systems dealing with guidance, and the loss of aerodynamics.
Aerodynamics were lost by losing an entire panel and potentially having parts of the spacecraft
protruding into space. This caused a very high use of fuel to navigate, especially when done on
manual calculations. In any way you look at it, the explosion was definitely the source of all problems

Reflection On Classwork
My lesson began as class usually does, with students completing the Do Now up on the board: having
notebooks and pencils ready, picking up the warm up sheet from the back, and writing the homework
in their planner. Since there was no homework from the previous day, we were able to go right into the
warm up. I walked around the classroom to make sure students had the warm up and were beginning
to work. Students were unusually quiet, probably due to the camera and Keith s presence, so I
reminded them that they were allowed to discuss the warm up. I stopped to help one student get
started finding the missing side lengths of two similar triangles and helped another remember how to
divide fractions for the last question. After the students had about 5 minutes to work on the warm up, I
displayed a blank warm up using the document camera and asked for students to share their answers. I
asked an additional question about what the scale factor was for the triangles and modeled using the
scale factor to find the missing side lengths. pointed out to students that all the fraction questions
related to a pair of corresponding side lengths in the triangles from the first question, recalling that we
could use fractions to represent or find corresponding sides in similar shapes.
Next, I introduced that we will be exploring proportional relationships on a graph and that we would
be trying a new style of group work. I explained the structure to the students, that they would be in
groups of

The Abuse Of Delia In Sweat By Zora Hurston
Due to the abuse that Delia suffers in the short story Sweat by Zora Hurston, she becomes stronger
and gains independence. Sykes is a overcontrolling husband and frequently abuses Delia throughout
their marriage. He does this in several different ways. First is verbal, he is always yelling and at Delia
and never has anything nice to say. Along with a general rudeness toward her he makes threats to her,
saying things such as, Ah oughter mash you in yo mouf fuh drawing dat skillet on me (Hurston 3).
This threatening manner eventually stops working as she grew numb to his threats after fifteen years
of marriage. So, in response to her numbness he escalates his abuse by physically assaulting her. The
third way he torments his wife is psychologically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her strength is a mental strength and she is stronger than most. Although Sykes is able to physically
abuse her and stoops to lows such as abuse she still fights back. This is surprising as women during
this time were expected to be completely submissive and obey their husband s command. Instead she
ignores him since she knows that she is the dominant one. Even the men at the shop recognize that she
is the provider in the family and that Sykes is an abuser. They also recognize the effect the abuse had
on her and her appearance. They say the women Never wuz de same in de mind (Hurston 4). They
also say Delia wuz ez pretty ez a speckled pup (Hurston 4). Now though she does not look the same as
she did when she first married Sykes. Despite her abuse from her husband she grows stronger because
of it. She does this by simply getting used to it. This is why he keeps changing his ways of abuse,
because she has over come them and has become numb to them. Eventually everything will reach a

An Important Part Of Interpersonal Communication
Feedback is known to be an important part of interpersonal communication. It lets speakers know
what impact their words are having. When others have an opportunity to respond, a dialogue is created
and the content of the messages can be adjusted, or even improved. This dynamic is applied every day
in health care settings. Medical professionals rely on feedback throughout their careers to enhance the
quality care they provide. Patients enter clinics and emergency rooms seeking feedback from
physicians about what is happening to their bodies. Together, medical staff and patients must depend
on feedback to reach a diagnosis and find the best course of treatment. Physicians and other medical
staff collectively examine patients: recording their vitals, taking an accurate history, and performing a
thorough review of certain body systems. All of this is done based on the patients chief complaints.
Their bodies are sending feedback signals, trying to tell them something is wrong, such as an infection
like pneumonia. Patients cannot interpret this feedback themselves, so they seek medical services to
further examine them. Sometimes the feedback patients bodies send is not very clear. Many diagnoses
share signs and symptoms, so physicians should consider other factors as well. The patient may have
other conditions that put them at particular risk for other problems to arise. If physicians or staff fail to
further investigate in these situations, a potential for serious consequences

Povinelli s Mirror Self-Recognition Of Asian Elephants
Gordon Gallup Jr. was the first to hypothesize a connection between mirror self recognition and
empathy by studying evidence of great apes comforting each other. Elephants are highly empathetic as
they support and care for one another in their herds. They can see when something is wrong with a
fellow elephant and try to help. This makes them a perfect candidate for the mirror self recognition
test. Povinelli saw this and conducted an experiment in 1989 using elephants. Years late in 2006
Plotnik conducted a similar experiment and recognized errors made in Povinelli s with the size and
placement of the mirror and health of the elephants used, both ran into the problem of the elephants
seeing the marks as inconsequential.
Daniel Povinelli tested two Asian elephants in 1989 and Plotnik in 2006 tested three Asian elephants.
In both experiments, they used female Asian elephants, they did not use female African elephants
because they touch their heads several time a day due to secretion of their temporal gland. Female
Asian Elephants temporal gland is non secretory (Plotnik, de Waal, and Reiss). The results would be
confusing because Povinelli ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Povinelli s errors. Plotnik used a bigger mirror and placed it closer so the elephants could touch it and

new elephant. He also used elephants with good health that could fully participate in the experiment

Differences Between Power Bi And Tableau
On the surface, it was difficult to discern the differences between Power BI and Tableau because both
tools provide similar functions of visualization. So, I decided to solve some common analytic
questions and see if there are differences in terms of user experience. A summary table is created, as
shown below, based on the questions solving experience. Power BI provides powerful functions with
moderate level of visualization, however, the learning curve to reach to intermediate level can be
largely steeper compared to Tableau. Many times, to even solve a very simple problem, a Data
Analysis Expressions (DAX) script was needed during the test. Same problem was solved by 3 times
of clicking at Tableau. This DAX was more difficult to utilize compared to the Tableau s scripting
language and the absent of staunch Power BI user communities exacerbated the difficulty when
writing DAX scripts. The user communities for Power BI are currently in a nascent stage, and many
times, I had to go over the references which were mainly written for experienced programmers. Unlike
Power BI, Tableau have strong user communities and they provide a quick fix, allowing a novice to
solve intermediate level of questions. The absent of mature user community of Power BI should not be
overlooked. The availability and utilisation of user communities are very important when choosing IT
products, considering that web searching is the most common and effective way when to learn new
technology

The Movie The Boy s The Striped Pajamas And Of Course...
I first experienced the mystical possibilities of filmmaking by witnessing the artistic genius of Mark
Herman in his movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas and of course the one and only Alfred Hitchcock
or I like to call him The Wizard of Thriller in movies like, The White Shadow (one of the greatest
silent movies by him), Peak years and the famous Psycho. As a filmmaker, I studied nuances,
character based storytelling and building up a story from the introduction of the main till the end
having misunderstanding or war within oneself or with someone else in the middle. I look to create
tales that brings a thrill to the viewers in the form of films. And that s the reason why my team and I
chose to do something different with our film and that little uniqueness about our film is the
Panoramic style. It s been a while since a Panorama movie have been made. If you have seen all those
western cowboys movies like Mackenna s Gold made in 1969 closely, you will find that the entire
movie was made in panoramic style. The plan of this movie Mackenna s Gold was original to be
shown in single lens Cinerama, but unfortunately, the Columbia took that idea away. But when did this
Panoramic way of movies come out after the 90 s? A music video probably but a movie, I don t think
so. That s the reason why my team and I or I prefer to call us The Zeitgeists decided to make our film
a little different. We have all seen how movies have changed from black and white films to color and

Benefits of Technology Incorporation into a Classroom Setting
Today, our society is more technologically advanced than it has ever been, and our schools have
become more technologically progressive over the past few years, but does having technology in the
classroom help or hinder the students from learning? A quote by John Dewey from his book
Democracy and Education stated If we teach today s students as we taught yesterday s, we rob them of
tomorrow. Integrating technology into classrooms is not only essential in preparing the students for the
future, but it is also an effective teaching method. Many surveys and studies have been done about
using technology to teach students. Even as early as 6 years old to college level and the outcomes have
varied, depending on the way it was introduced and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, give a brief description of technological manner in a classroom, allow usage during non
test days for note taking and the penalty of a reduced participation if the technology proves distracting
to the student or his/her peers (Jackson). Another way to ensure that the students are not misusing the
technology is for the teachers to teach the students how to get the most out of it. Most devices can be
connected to the internet and there are almost an infinite number of things that you can do, see, and
use while on there, but if the students spend their time doing assignments, projects and learning new
skills the likelihood of them misusing it will decrease significantly.
Applications on hand held devices such as tablets and iPads have made learning more fun for students.
An app was created for students 8 years or younger, where they can learn early reading skills such as
basic sight words, and they can practice writing and grammar skills while creating their own
interactive stories (Pilgrim, Bledsoe and Reily). Mathematics apps focus on beginning concepts of
math number sense and include diagnostic games to determine the instructional level of each student.
The apps are also available for more advanced concepts. Science apps can do things like turn an iPad

The Conservation Of The Feral Pigs
INTRODUCTION This model addresses the pathways in which ecological drivers are having
significant influence over the natural systems of Hawaii. Climate change is one of the most pressing
issues of our time; Hawaii has not been exempt from the effects. We re witnessing a large increase in
sea levels, which can lead to the erosion of the small islands and eventually displace humans. Climate
change also is influencing the way we manage forests, to promote carbon sequestration we must focus
on managing forests for sustainable regeneration. Forest regeneration also influences other ecosystem
services like cultural, regulating, provisioning and supporting services. Specifically dealing with the
presence of feral pigs we see different drivers causing the increase in population and disturbances.
Cultural drivers are an issue. There is debate over control methods for the feral pigs has been
gridlocked between conservation biologists/environmentalists, hunters and managers. Public hunts
have been highly encouraged due to low costs, but hunters are afraid of snare traps that could hurt
them and potentially kill their dogs. Conservationists want to restore native vegetation. Managers are
seeking public approval and effective means of control. Overall, not enough is being done and human
relations are being strained. This is reducing cultural services from the land immensely. Another driver
is changing land use and development, which is highly stressing for the ecosystems.

Operational Planning, Strategic Planning And Control
Operational Planning, Strategic Planning Control The function of planning is integral to the success of
any organization and is typically achieved through the development and communication of the
organization s mission statement, vision statement, and future goal setting. To set those goals a
manager must understand present realities and future contingencies for their organization, while
creating a vision of the organization s future (Boateng, Karikari, Akafo, 2015 p. 103). Per Satterlee
(2013), the mission statement is the crucial first step of establishing the future direction of the
organization. The vision statement explains the goals of how to achieve the mission. Policies,

Additionally, it is imperative to formulate the strategy regarding exactly where the company is going
with their products and services. This portion of the process is truly organizational specific according
to their needs. Last, but not least, once all the planning has been completed, executives must oversee
its implementation to successfully live up to the mission statement. Key components of successful
implementation include clear, concise, and relevant communication, focus, and perseverance. One of
the ways to ensure effective implementation is ongoing evaluation.
Operational Planning After strategic planning, has taken place and filtered down through the
management team, operational planning takes place to execute the mission. Strategic planning
provides the vision for where the organization is heading; however, operational planning is where the
intricate details establishing mission completion is completed. Per Satterlee (2013) the operational
level, an integral part of the planning process consists of specific details to whom, what, when, and
how and includes functional areas within the organization, such as marketing, finance, and distribution
(p.69). During the operational planning phase, each section within the organization is provided with
their responsibilities for task completion. Managers conducting operational planning must factor in
issues such as budgetary concerns, policy and procedures, and team

Effects Of Wars Leave On Business
Executive Summary This research paper will provide an analysis and evaluation of the effects that
wars leave on business. Examples of these include embassies that prohibit their citizens to visit those
countries in war. If these countries at war base their economy in tourism this will result them to not be
economically stable since there is a ban in visiting their countries. Since there is no tourism and no
business to survive on, the citizens of these countries may resort to drug business to feed themselves.
Wars can impact economic effects and make investors seek investments in other countries. This
substantially can result in these countries to not have no supply and demand in the economic growth.
This substantially affects the nations economy. However, some of the effects of war may not be bad
sometimes they create revenue for the country s income. This research paper will analyze these
effects. An excessive military spending can displace the economy instead of focusing in other areas to

Abortion, when the topic comes up, it is usually something people do not like to discuss. People may
tend to avoid this issue for fear of offending or angering others but it is extremely important that the
horrors of this brutal practice be addressed. During the years 1965 1996 over 515 million babies have
been murdered, this is if you add the number of chemical and surgical abortions
(www.rockforlife.org). This is what we need to understand: abortion kills and we need to know where

One way is called Partial Birth Abortion (D amp;X); it can kill babies up to thirty two weeks old. The
abortionist (murderer in this case) removes all of the baby from the mother except for the head, he
then jab a pair of scissors in the back of the babies skull and then he uses a suction hose to suck out
the babies brain. Then he uses forceps to crush the babies skull and pull the rest of the babies body
out. Salt poisoning is also used, where salt is injected and the bay dies of convulsions due to salt
poisoning (www.rockforlife.org). If they can say this is not murder, then what is?
Abortion is not painless for the mother either. Over ninety seven percent of women have reported
feeling pain it is often described as intense, severe, or very severe. Abortion is also not without side
effects. Complications such as bleeding, hemorrhaging, menstrual disturbances or inflammation of the
reproductive organs. Sometimes abortion can cause damage to the uterus and make the woman
infertile for the rest of her life. (Abortion some medical facts pamphlet.) Also if you are a women and

and emotional pain.

The Hero s Journey in Modern Film Essay
Countless quest narratives ranging from modern texts all the way back to ancient texts have all
conformed to a certain archetypal structure. Christopher Vogler writes:
All stories consist of a few common structural elements found universally in myths, fairy tales,
dreams, and movies. They are known collectively as The Hero s Journey. Understanding these
elements and their use in modern writing is the object of our quest. Used wisely, these ancient tools of
the storytellers craft still have tremendous power to heal our people and make the world a better place
(xxvii).
Being one of the world s most popular art forms, it was inevitable that these archetypes would find
their way into film as well. In this essay I will argue that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, since the hero is part of society, the journey is also one of personal development. On a more
psychological level, one could suggest that the hero s quest is symbolic of all personal conflict.
Conflict begins when a problem arises that must be dealt with. Most people, at first, refuse to come to
terms with whatever this problem may be, and attempt to ignore it. With enough mental determination
and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and
begin their journey into the heart of the problem. For example, victims of rape or other types of abuse
must face what is haunting them in order for it to be exorcised properly.
In the beginning of any narrative that follows a monomythical structure, a reluctant hero is called to
adventure. In Pulp Fiction, this hero is Jules Winnfield. Jules is called to adventure when Marcellus
Wallace instructs him and Vincent to collect his briefcase from Brett s apartment. Interestingly
enough, this occurs before the film even begins, as we are first introduced to Jules and Vincent in
medias res as they make their way to the apartment. Usually the next stage is supernatural aid, where
the hero receives help with their journey by some otherworldly force, but Tarantino chooses to switch
this stage places with the first threshold. The first threshold is when the hero faces a threshold
guardian, standing for

her father to abandoned her and her 5 siblings, she and her sisters were sent to a convent for

Political Philosophy Is The Issue Of Political Obligation
One of the central issues in political philosophy is the issue of political obligation. This concerns the
presence, the nature and especially the foundation of a particular relationship between government and
its citizens. Philosophical Anarchism challenges this relationship. In this endeavor it differs from the
position of Political Anarchism, which has as its main goal not only the moral devaluation but also the
decline of the state. Conversely, the main method of philosophical anarchism is the rejection of
theories that support the political task without necessarily to adopt the position that the state is
inevitably evil and it must be abolished. The political authority concerns a grid of exclusive rights on
the social life, such as how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main concern of anarchism is that the political limitations are such that create problems as it has
to do with the individual freedom and fulfillment. On the one hand, we find our lives to be controlled
by political institutions and we take this power for granted. On the other, usually in our lives we want
to decide ourselves about major issues that affect us, to be able to make choices and act freely, without
the others to decide for us. Then why in the case of the state we consider the control and authority of
others over us for granted? The answer is that the states were created in order to serve their citizens.
They are good for our lives, destined to make easier and fair the coexistence between us. The states
form a scheme that is created by man himself to ameliorate his life. Therefore, they are his choice, a
product of the very freedom of man, of his will to govern himself. But this seems to give birth to a
paradox; man decided to govern himself because he does not want to be governed. Substantially the
paradox is not a paradox. It is only apparently paradoxical. This is because the restrictions are not
incompatible with freedom when they derive from it. The appearance of the paradox reflects the idea
that the best way to justify the authority and the limitations over people is to demonstrate that

Identity In Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez
The public self is often times not the true self. This indication of a difference between the public and
true self leads to the idea that the self and identity of an individual are different concepts. The self, is a
person s essential being that makes each individual unique compared to others; whereas the identity, is
a person s character that is essentially created to help the individual fit into society. These two
concepts begin to form early in life through influences from society, family, and culture. However, as
the individual beings to assimilate the world around them, their sense of identity transforms in order to
adapt to the new environment, while their sense of self remains the same. When talking to an
individual, rarely will they describe themselves completely, as their true self; meaning, they will give

This socioeconomic status can be affected by the individual s job, their race, and gender. It is because
of this socioeconomic status that causes some people to forget about their family and traditions to go

always ashamed of how dark his skin was compared to the other kids. He saw how all the Mexican
farmers and los pobres, or the poor, were of dark complexion, which made him think that his dark
complexion would determine his future. However, he began going to focus in school and further his
education, to the point where he realized that the complexion of an individual s skin does not
ultimately affect their future lives. He states that, I was able to regard my complexion without shame. I
am today darker than I ever was as a boy, (Rodriguez 146). He was no longer ashamed to be dark,

The Minerva System
1. What has been your involvement in Beuth? Honestly, my initial reaction to the minerva meetings
was that I was surprised about the meetings because I really did not see the point in just voting for
events. The very first meeting was where many people people came and a lot of upperclassmen came
as well and they were the ones who mostly introduced the events and I did not know a whole lot about
the minerva system. Initially, the meaning of minerva houses is oblivious to most incoming freshman

who attend the meeting it is a safe place so even the shiest people can participate. The first minerva
meeting that I observed was how the minerva system works and realized that it was a pretty simple
process of getting an idea approved. I have observed that minerva meetings are places where students
are encouraged to take action on an event that they are thinking about everyone is given an equal
chance. What has always stuck with me about the meetings is that all clubs and students are
encouraged to work together when they come up with the same events and make it even better and not
outdo each other. I have had a first hand experience of this because the club that I am involved in
wanted to do a week long event on the Syrian Refugee Crisis and we had it planned and someone also
said that the he/she wanted to to do a dinner and discussion on this event so we said that we have also
thought about this and we were informed that the minerva aren t a place for competition and rather we
should combine our ideas and maybe join together and this was a great learning experience for me and
others. My friend and I decided to propose an event to the minerva council about an international
talent night to the council so they suggested some ways to just as best time, performer groups and
other ideas for this event and this really

Daniell Malico The Ring Summary
In the article The Ring, author Danielle Malico paints a very vivid picture of what it would be like to
actually be in the boxing ring as a fighter. In her thesis within the opening paragraph, Malico states
Many know what it is like to be a spectator, but few know the fighter s experience (Malico, n.d., p.
135). This thesis is stated clearly, and it is a fact that few actually know what the fighter experiences.
The thesis gives the reader an indication of where the rest of the article is headed next. Starting in the
next paragraph, the reader is able to visualize the experience in their minds as they read. Almost
everyone has seen a boxing match, at least on television or on an internet video, so the description

As this panorama is being painted, the reader begins to visualize the ring lights, the referee and
fighters, the ring itself in the center; even though Malico doesn t describe these particular details. She
then paints a clearer picture of what is within the ring, and narrows the visualization down to the
perspective of the fighter; as if to bring the consciousness of the reader visualizing the scene into the
body of the fighter. Malico describes feeling of how her body feels and the sensations of the guard in
her mouth, which causes excess saliva to run down her chin. She goes on to describe the smell of
rubber and sweat from the mat, the description of her opponent, the confidence of the other fighter
coming at her and her slight hesitation which she must overcome as the fighters feel each other out;
further solidifying the visualization into a first person view. Even the description of being in the corner
after the first round is complete with sensory details. The reader is able to imagine these sensations as
if they were the one experiencing them. Obviously, Malico does an exceptional job at giving her
readers a sense of

He thought about his current assignment and how he was going to find this very rare animal in less
than two weeks. But he also thought about the rewards. If he was able to find this rare animal he
would be paid one thousand dollars per day, which is double the amount of the regular salary. This
was obviously a big deal for his employer, National Geographic, and he was very nervous that he was
going to let them down. Bartholomew had never failed an assignment and was not about to fail this

Kenning In Beowulf
ENGLISH 5193 Professor Christopher A. Jones A brief survey in compounds and kennings in OE and
ON Ash Gao I chose the definition of kenning to start with, because there is a handbook by Snorri. I
then gave some explanations and supplements to his classification according to some modern scholars.
Then I argued that OE lacks the pure kenning that ON has. Finally I inserted a story showing
compound making as an important skill for skalds, and how it is equally important in OE. Perhaps the
most quoted definition of the term kenning is that by Georg Paul Rudolf Meissner in Die Kenningar
der Skalden (1921: 2), Die einfache Kenning ist also ein zweigliedriger Ersatz für ein Substantiv der
gewöhnlichen Rede , with an addition wesentlich für die Kenning ist, dass sie als Ersatz empfunden

too loosely defined. Here I turned to a source, much younger than Beowulf, for the definition of this ...

Effects Of Sexuality In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Side Effects of Sexuality Sexuality is not new; in fact, it is possibly the oldest existing
occurrences in human history. It even goes back to the days of 2700 B.C. and, though not given labels
and limitations, it definitely has an important presence in The Epic of Gilgamesh, written by
Anonymous. Yes, it is important. Three of the major game changing events in The Epic of Gilgamesh
involve sex, including the refusal of it. One involves using the act of sex to acclimate wild to
civilization. Another instance involves the rejection of sexual advances due to self dignity and growth,
and, despite it being a great morality move, how the one that was rejected can construe rejection. The
last involves how powerful a soul tie can become, especially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A little background history: in Sumerian civilization, there is no morality linked with sexuality; it is
practically an honor to be a prostitute. This is due to the fact that this literary work is pre Biblically
written. In this setting, sexuality is merely that and everyone has the same freedom to operate,
sexually, as they please. The topics of infidelity, heterosexuality and homosexuality were null and
void. The literary work, When Heroes Love: The Ambiguity of Eros in the Stories of Gilgamesh and
David by Susan Ackerman showcases the possible erotic references of Enkidu and Gilgamesh s
steamy and complex relationship through wordplay. Some examples include the frequent description
of Gilgamesh and Enkidu as brothers ; the sexual nature of the wrestling account; Gilgamesh s
abnormal rejection to Ishtar s advances; the deathbed scene in which Enkidu is compared to a bride to
Gilgamesh; and, finally, Gilgamesh s mourn over his dead lover and friend. For Ackerman, based on
these definitive events, the presence of homoerotic overtones in some of the Epic s descriptions ...
seems indisputable. (Nissinen 307) In The Epic of Gilgamesh, what Aruru ordains as a rivalry ends in
friendship, companionship, and love. It is the battle between Gilgamesh and Enkidu that begins to
open his eyes to how he is portrayed in the text a power hungry and unruly womanizer. Mutually,
Enkidu gradually becomes more acclimated to the intricacies of being a human through his
interactions with Gilgamesh. They both develop together an unbreakable soul tie that takes them
through the battle with Humbaba, the forest ogre and the Bull of Heaven. Once Enkidu dies,

of a man who lost his wife. Dually, the death of Enkidu serves as an incentive for Gilgamesh to start

What were we trying to accomplish with this experiment? What method did we implement to
accomplish the task? What techniques were used to purify and identify the product(s) of the reaction?
In this experiment, an acid base extraction was done to separate a mixture of an unknown acid and
fluorene, a neutral compound. The possible unknown acids were 2 chlorobenzoic acid, 3
chlorobenzoic acid, and 3 methylbenzoic acid. The purification of the isolated unknown acid was
performed by recrystallization and its identity was established by analyzing the melting point range of
the pure product and comparing it to the provided standards. In addition, a mixed melting point
experimentation enhanced the fidelity of the unknown s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, the organic carboxylic acid becomes a charged species after it is deprotonated by a base like
sodium hydroxide, producing a carboxylic salt. After completing the extraction, an acid, such as
hydrochloric acid, is added to the basic aqueous solution causing the sodium carboxylate salt to
change back to the default carboxylic acid, which will precipitate out of solution since it is water
insoluble. Recrystallization is a technique when a solute is dissolved in a hot solvent (destruction of
the impure crystal lattice) and is then precipitated out of solution as the solvent is immediately cooled
(selectively producing a purer lattice). The unknown acid was recrystallized using hot water followed
by hot ethanol in order to dissolve the solid, followed by cooling which resulted in the precipitation of
the desired product. Afterward, melting point experimentation was used to match the melting point
data of the unknown acid with the provided standards of the known acids. If there is a melting point
depression, one has acted as an impurity to the other compound. In contrast, if there is no noticeable
decrease in melting point relative to the two separate compounds; it is safe to say that they are the

St. Athanasius Against Arian Heresy
St. Athanasius Against the Arian Heresy
The St. Athanasius greatly impacted the Arian heresy. The Arian heresy was very well rooted, and St.
Athanasius is recognized as the main Church Father to fight it. The heresy of Arianism started in the
early 300s. It was starting to gain followers, so the Church called for the Council of Nicea. The Nicene
Creed was made during this Council, and it rebuked the teachings of Arianism, which made it an
heresy. Arianism soon rose back from the ashes, and many Church members were turning to it out of
fear or corruption. St. Athanasius stayed strong throughout all of this, continuing to preach and write
of the heresies of Arianism. He survived five exiles and died peacefully in his bed in the Alexandrian
See. Arianism didn t just appear out of thin air, it had a start just like all other heresies. The founder of
Arianism was Arius. Arius was a priest in Alexandria, who had studied in Antioch. Some of the
subjects of his studies were the works of Origen, Neoplatonism, and Gnosticism. He then started to
preach that Jesus was sent by the Father, however not equal to the Father. He said that Jesus was only
called the Son of God because of his heroics. Athanasius was the main opponent of this heresy, ...

The Circular Letter was in response to Gregory of Cappadocia s intrusion into the Alexandrian See.
He wrote about Gregory sending Jews and barbarians into the churches of Alexandria to attack the
people, how the Jews were making sacrifices of birds on the altar, and how monks were beaten and
killed. He also wrote that Gregory allowed these men to plunder the church, in order to win them over
fully. Athanasius then shows in his writing how Gregory was supported by the Arians, and that the
Arians are doing this to keep him out. Athanasius ends the letter with an appeal to the other members
of the Church to get Gregory out of

Dispatcher Cioch V Plato
On 11/13/2015 at approximately 2133 hours, I was dispatched to 712 Cotton Brooks Dr. (The
Grooves) in reference to a domestic. Dispatcher Cioch advised that a female complainant stated her
husband is intoxicated and just struck her and her daughters with his hand and she and her daughters
had locked themselves upstairs in the bathroom to get away from him.
Upon my arrival, I observed a white male standing outside, Officer Welch then order the suspect to
ground who was later identified as Kevin George Plato (Suspect). Mr. Plato had a moderate odor of an
alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath at this time.
I then proceeded to enter the residence and noticed a female was visibly upset and was crying. I
identified the female as Mrs. Gloria Lipscomb Plato (Victim) and her daughters Marissa Dawn Plato
(Victim) and Kara Plato. Mrs. Plato s face was red and she had a cut on the inside of her bottom lip.
Mrs. Plato s neck and arms were also red. Mrs. Plato stated that ... Show more content on

hurt her mother. Marissa stated that she witness her father run at her mother in aggressive manner so
she ran and started fighting with him in her mothers defense. Marissa could not provide any further
information.
I then made contact with Mr. Kevin George Plato (Suspect). Mr. Plato stated that he has been having
marital issues. Mr. Plato stated that his wife and himself have been fighting ever since their daughter
Kara had moved back home several months ago. Mr. Plato stated the reason for the incident was over
stress. Mr. Plato admitted to slapping his wife in the face.
Mr. Plato was arrested for assault on a female. Mr. Plato was transported to the Wake County Jail
where he was processed by CCBI and then released into the custody of the Wake County Jailers
without further incident

Joey-Personal Narrative
The Joey s response was quick as his wit. He explained that he was dressed for winter everywhere
else, so why would his feet be cold. I recalled all the instances I have said the same thing to others. I
was officially intrigued. A warm sensation reached my stomach which had been achy, damp, and cold
since Mr. Wonderful disappearance. I didn t recognize it at first; since the day my car had
malfunctioned, I had not been out for an evening anything like this one. In the space of only one high
desert winter evening, I had danced, been around children, eaten a meal in the presence of others, and
felt the warmth of the fire and the kind company of nice people. At this moment, I had Galaxy in my
lap, and the warmth of the fire, and a man I had just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was sitting on the couch with my bunny Galaxy when he came in the door and I only looked in his
direction long enough to be polite since Galaxy had peed on me.
The Joey revealed his geographical knowledge of the odd urban layout of our high desert. He drove on
the back road off the highway that is familiar to locals. I told him to let me know when he needed me
to direct him. He only needed help with the last few turns. When we reached my house, he pulled into
my driveway behind my broken car. He turned the car off and paused a moment until I asked Can you
help me carry a few things to my door
Oh, of course he responded as if he felt he should have offered to help without my asking. I held
Galaxy as he carried blankets and a diaper bag to the door.
You can just put that here, I will take care of it
Still holding Galaxy wrapped in a blanket I faced him as he said, I am sure I will see you and Galaxy
again. His sentence has a subtle hint of a question. I reached out to hug him and we embraced
sideways around Galaxy who was nestled in my right

Hillary Clinton Discrimination
On July 28, 2016, history was made in a monumental way that even the Framers of the Constitution
most likely wouldn t have predicted. Now that eventful day will also be known as the day that Hillary
Rodham Clinton accepted the nomination from the Democratic Party to run for President. What makes
this situation an integral part of history is that Mrs. Clinton is the first female to be nominated for
President and come November 8, 2016 there is possibility that she can making history by becoming
the first female President. Being the first female to make such a speech could ve been a factor of
anxiety that Hillary had to encounter. Aside from these major implications that occurred on July 28,
2016, former Secretary Hillary Clinton gave a speech ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though Clinton presented several good plans, a fair amount of the promises made can be called far
fetched and unrealistic. People are sure to be behind plans that will help the American people pursue
the prosperous life they desire, but the people will not stand with a candidate that promises plans that
are highly unlikely. For example creating a Constitutional amendment to stop Citizens United would
be a difficult task as the process to pass a Constitutional Amendment would make it difficult as a there
isn t an issue with bipartisan agreement. Making implausible vows can hurt Hillary Clinton during the
campaign because she will have an increasing amount of skeptics questioning the honesty and validity
of her plans. The people s trust in candidate Clinton can diminish if the people feel her ideas won t be
fulfilled. If there is one thing that voters dislike, it s a candidate that promises great success that
cannot be achieved. It seems that . This mistake made by former Secretary Clinton is very detrimental
and can be used as point against her as she moves on to attempt to become the

Environmental Factors of Human Growth
Environmental Factors
You often hear the word environment, but do you stop to think what it really means, what it contains,
and how it affects you? The actual definition of environment is the circumstances, objects, or
conditions by which one is surrounded (Merriam Webster dictionary). Your environment greatly
impacts the way you are as a human being. Each and every one of your life experiences are influenced
by your environment. Your environment determines if or how your potential to develop is reached.
Family, friends, home, school, etc. are all components of your environment. By reading further, you
will witness these factors that affect your personal growth and development being explored and
discussed.
FAMILY When children are very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your culture and heritage usually help determine many decisions you make in your future. For
example, most of the friends you make and keep will probably be of the same heritage and culture you
come from. The places you go, like church, celebrations, festivities, etc. are determined by your
cultural background. Multicultural influences can altar your relationships with family members as well
as impact your values and expectations for your future family. Odds are, if or when you have children
you will transfer those same beliefs and traditions that you are used to to them.
SCHOOL A quality school environment provides a setting that encourages students to learn and grow.
After school activities can provide chances for students to interact with others in clubs or sports. Class
curriculum offers courses that stimulate students intellectual growth. Teachers in a quality school
environment encourage students by helping them find areas in which they succeed. Teachers also help
students find areas in which they need to improve. By doing so, they help students know what
decisions to make regarding how to get the most efficient education for them and how they learn best,
especially when they get to college. PEERS By interacting with your peers you can make judgements
about how you look because you begin to compare your appearance to theirs; how important you are
because you compare how much attention they get with how much you

Long Term Care Sociology
In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which
residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing
assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in Ohio
there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for residents to
receive the optimum amount of care possible. Nursing homes can not only include parts in which they
provide skilled care by Nurses and Nursing Assistants, but also assisted living for those who just need
help from time to time or assistance managing their medication. Residents still have the right to choice
when in a nursing home and they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care,
toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for anyone,
especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including retirement and
social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and receive care twenty
four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double occupancy room), the cost was
nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost across the country is $248 per day for a
private room and $222 daily for a semi private room (Costs Of Care), which for a private room can
add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at
an average of $3,300 a month for the base fee , however each additional service that they require help
from staff to complete is an additional fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that
staff completed or assisted with, including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying
treatments such as a breathing machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have
children or other family members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot
be managed at home (due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term
care facility to receive help completing tasks needed for simple

Piaget s Theory On Child Development
Children are not simply small adults who are still growing; they learn differently and experience the
world in a variation of ways that opposes adult reasoning. Piaget s theory on child development asserts
that there are four stages of cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete
operational, and formal operational. Piaget also suggested that human thinking is arranged into
schemes, organized mental patterns that represent behaviors and actions (Feldman, 2015, p. 17). These
schemes are the building blocks of knowledge and experience growth through two basic principles:
assimilation and accommodation (Feldman, 2015). Assimilation refers to the process in which people
understand new ideas in relation to their own way of thinking and adapt, where as accommodation
refers to changes in the way of thinking caused by new stimuli. Natural observation of children can
lend an insight into Piaget s stages of development, which is the method chosen for this study. For this
observation two children were selected, one male and one female. Subject A is a Caucasian male,
approximately 3 years of age, who has middle class parents, and a stay at home mom; Subject B child
is a Caucasian female, also approximately 3 years of age, has middle class parents, and a mother who
works part time. According to Piaget s theory, these two subjects are in the preoperational stage. The
preoperational stage is a time of complex thinking and reasoning, during this time,

2-Methylphenoxyacetic Acid Synthesis Lab Report
The design of this experiment aimed to synthesize 2 methylphenoxyacetic acid from 2 methylphenol
and sodium chloroacetate by means on phenol alkylation. 2 Methylphenoxyacetic acid has been used
to control the growth in plants and exemplifies a product of synthesis as it is a complex molecule
constructed from two simple molecules. This synthesis proceeds by a nucleophilic substitution
reaction, more specifically, via SN2 mechanism (see below). An SN2 mechanism s reactants are a
nucleophile and a good leaving group (usually a halide ion). Once the crude product is obtained, it is
purified by recrystallization with water and collected. To start, a 0.32 g (2.9 mmol) sample of 2
methyphenol (the nucleophile) was weighed into a 10 ml Erlenmeyer ... Show more content on

formation was observed. Recrystallized product was collected once more by suction filtration with the
Hirsch funnel once crystallization ceased. Collected product dried on a watch glass for a week,

Essay on The Growing Epidemic of Cyberbullying
Cyber bullying has been around since the creation of advanced communication technology. In the last
few years, however, this issue has become more common, more related to sex and most of all more
dangerous. It has gotten so dangerous that children have killed each other and/or committed suicide
after having been involved in a cyber bullying incident. Little attention and support from school
authorities, more access to computers, and the latest cool thing (social networks) are all factors that
have contributed to the rising of cyber bullying practices. Cyber bullying is when a preteen or teen is
harassed, threatened, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise molested by another child with the use of
technology such as internet, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such audience could then turn bullying into verbal bullying or even continue the cyber bullying
making it a bigger threat for the victim. By now the victim is already scared to death and
psychologically abused. In a lot of cases the abuse escalates to physical abuse. Third characteristic is
prevalent sexual and homophobic harassment. Sexual and homophobic harassment is emerging as one
of the main reasons a person is bullied. This one not only concentrates on the sexual orientation of the
person, but also touches unwanted sexual attention, and sexual coercion. A fourth aspect is that only
communications have a permanence and inseparability that are very difficult to erase. For example
cell phones are usually carried all the time which makes it difficult for the victim to ignore the
message. Teenagers spend a lot of time in their computers which also makes it difficult to ignore
emails. Emails are very powerful because they can contain defamatory material or modified pictures
and it can be send to us many people as you want. In this characteristic, we can include social
networking sites such as My Space, Face book, Hi 5, and many others. Online communication tools
such as the ones previously mentioned for pre teens and teenagers began to function approximately 5
years ago and became extremely popular. Especially for girls that like to engage in more social and
verbal forms of communication. These sites were

  • 2. Girl, Interrupted, By Film Starring Winona Ryder And... Girl, Interrupted is a 1999 drama film starring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie that is based off of Susanna Kaysen s memoir of the same name that documented her stay in a mental institution during the 1960 s. In the film, Susanna s character displays many symptoms of some form of mental illness ranging from impulsivity to a suicide attempt. In the beginning of the movie, Susanna is rushed to the hospital after overdosing on aspirin and vodka; Susanna, in denial about her own mental state, declares often throughout the early parts of the film that she took the aspirin because she had a headache , refusing to acknowledge that she had attempted suicide. In addition to her apparent suicidality, Susanna engaged in self harm behaviors, shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The broad range of symptoms that Susanna demonstrated during the film makes it hard to pinpoint an exact diagnosis for her. Given the symptoms Susanna presented, including instability in relationships, impulsivity, suicidality and self harm, negative affect, and feelings of emptiness; a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) seems most likely. A diagnosis of depression also seems fairly likely due to Susanna s low mood and thoughts of suicide; however, this diagnosis did not completely map onto the symptoms that Susanna presented throughout the film. The depressive symptoms she experienced were also symptoms of her personality disorder, perhaps suggesting a comorbidity. In the film, the age of onset for Susanna s BPD was around 18 years old, which fits within the framework for diagnosing personality disorders, as personality disorders are not usually diagnosed until the patient reaches adulthood. The first episode that Susanna experienced was very severe, leading her to attempt suicide, this episode extended into the beginning of her stay at Claymoore, and could be triggered by stresses in her environment. The episode then decreased in severity as time passed and as she received treatment, which was multifaceted and tailored to her individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prof. Computer Engineering Department, Punjabi University, Patiala) (Email: *arshrai90@gmail.com, **Kahlon.navroz3@gmail.com) Abstract Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) play main role in the design and development of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) who improves the road safety and transportation productivity. VANETs include two communication types i.e. Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle to Roadside (V2R) communications. One of the most important challenges of this kind of network are the timely, safely and reliable dissemination of messages between vehicular nodes which permits the drivers to take appropriate decisions to improve the road safety. There are many routing protocols for VANETs which can support the reliability and safety for routing. These protocols undergo the several limitations including complexity, lack of scalability, end to end delay, routing overheads, etc. To remove these limitations, various bio inspired methodologies have been proposed for routing among vehicular nodes in an optimized way. Here in this paper, various bio inspired routing algorithms for the VANET are discussed. 1. INTRODUCTION A Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET) are considered as a specific type of Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) which contains the of a set of mobile nodes (Vehicles) ... The Sicarii were thought to be followers of Judas of Galillee that operated within Jerusalem. Their tactics included selective, symbolic assassinations; more general assassination along with destruction or plundering of the property of the wealthy and powerful; and kidnapping (Horsley 1979,439). The Hashshashin or assassins were secretive set emerging around the 11Th century that had ties to Iran and Syria. • 5. Tomorrow When The War Began By John Marsden In Tomorrow When the War Began, John Marsden uses many narrative features to make Ellie s World real for readers. Setting and themes are both vital to the plot, as well as the overall atmosphere of the story. The main themes in Tomorrow When the War Began are ambiguity, friendships, and personal growth. These themes both make the story relatable to readers, and forces them out of their comfort zone. The setting of the novel, at least for Australian readers, is incredibly familiar and real. The places and culture John Marsden describes is uniquely Australian. Australian readers would usually have trouble seeing a war situation as real and relating it to their own lives, but with Australia as the backdrop, this book makes it much easier to envision. The setting is very important to the plot of Tomorrow When The War Began, as the bush that surrounds Wirrawee provides a hideout for Ellie and her friends when they are invaded. John Marsden describes the setting of the book with immense, realistic detail, so much so that the scenery becomes it s own character that plays vital roles in many key scenes of the book, such as the blowing up of the bridge, or the camping trips into Hell. ... • 7. Importance Of Bilingual Education Bilingualism has been always a part of the U.S. history. In the early days of exploration and colonization, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German were as common as English. No doubt many of the inhabitants were conversant in more than two languages. Underlining the importance of the bilingual education in United States there are many different types of educational programs that exist for emergent bilinguals. The historical concept of these programs shows the shift from a focus on the home language and toward English only instruction. As Ovando (2003) writes The 18th and 19th century responses to language diversity were shaped by changing localized political, social, and economic forces rather than by any systematic ideas about language itself (p. 4). 1700s to the 1880s were a time frame where a fair amount of tolerance neglect existed toward the many languages. 1880s were the turning point in the historical development of linguistic and restrictions in immigration policy. Civil Rights Act Title VI and Bilingual Education Act Title VII are two examples of the rebirth of bilingual education. Civil Rights Act Title VI prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin, prohibits denial of equal access to education due to limited English proficiency. That could possibly be that the director wanted us to know what the astronauts knew to to make it more realistic. This movie uses astronomy and problem solving to solve many of these unanswered questions. In this essay I will be discussing the following issues; How the astronauts found out about the explosion, some of the problems that came with the explosion, whether it is worth the risk to send humans into space, and what knowledge we have gained by going into space. They were forced to shut down the heaters when they lost lots of electrical and fuel power. This caused great discomfort for the astronauts and it could have impacted some of the equipment on board. The explosion also caused a guidance issue due to the thrust coming from the explosion, the loss of some systems dealing with guidance, and the loss of aerodynamics. Aerodynamics were lost by losing an entire panel and potentially having parts of the spacecraft protruding into space. This caused a very high use of fuel to navigate, especially when done on manual calculations. In any way you look at it, the explosion was definitely the source of all problems on this ... Reflection On Classwork My lesson began as class usually does, with students completing the Do Now up on the board: having notebooks and pencils ready, picking up the warm up sheet from the back, and writing the homework in their planner. Since there was no homework from the previous day, we were able to go right into the warm up. I walked around the classroom to make sure students had the warm up and were beginning to work. Students were unusually quiet, probably due to the camera and Keith s presence, so I reminded them that they were allowed to discuss the warm up. I stopped to help one student get started finding the missing side lengths of two similar triangles and helped another remember how to divide fractions for the last question. After the students had about 5 minutes to work on the warm up, I displayed a blank warm up using the document camera and asked for students to share their answers. I asked an additional question about what the scale factor was for the triangles and modeled using the scale factor to find the missing side lengths. pointed out to students that all the fraction questions related to a pair of corresponding side lengths in the triangles from the first question, recalling that we could use fractions to represent or find corresponding sides in similar shapes. • 12. An Important Part Of Interpersonal Communication Feedback is known to be an important part of interpersonal communication. It lets speakers know what impact their words are having. When others have an opportunity to respond, a dialogue is created and the content of the messages can be adjusted, or even improved. This dynamic is applied every day in health care settings. Medical professionals rely on feedback throughout their careers to enhance the quality care they provide. Patients enter clinics and emergency rooms seeking feedback from physicians about what is happening to their bodies. Together, medical staff and patients must depend on feedback to reach a diagnosis and find the best course of treatment. Physicians and other medical staff collectively examine patients: recording their vitals, taking an accurate history, and performing a thorough review of certain body systems. All of this is done based on the patients chief complaints. Their bodies are sending feedback signals, trying to tell them something is wrong, such as an infection like pneumonia. Patients cannot interpret this feedback themselves, so they seek medical services to further examine them. Sometimes the feedback patients bodies send is not very clear. Many diagnoses share signs and symptoms, so physicians should consider other factors as well. The patient may have other conditions that put them at particular risk for other problems to arise. If physicians or staff fail to further investigate in these situations, a potential for serious consequences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Povinelli s Mirror Self-Recognition Of Asian Elephants Gordon Gallup Jr. was the first to hypothesize a connection between mirror self recognition and empathy by studying evidence of great apes comforting each other. Elephants are highly empathetic as they support and care for one another in their herds. They can see when something is wrong with a fellow elephant and try to help. This makes them a perfect candidate for the mirror self recognition test. Povinelli saw this and conducted an experiment in 1989 using elephants. Years late in 2006 Plotnik conducted a similar experiment and recognized errors made in Povinelli s with the size and placement of the mirror and health of the elephants used, both ran into the problem of the elephants seeing the marks as inconsequential. Differences Between Power Bi And Tableau On the surface, it was difficult to discern the differences between Power BI and Tableau because both tools provide similar functions of visualization. So, I decided to solve some common analytic questions and see if there are differences in terms of user experience. A summary table is created, as shown below, based on the questions solving experience. Power BI provides powerful functions with moderate level of visualization, however, the learning curve to reach to intermediate level can be largely steeper compared to Tableau. Many times, to even solve a very simple problem, a Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) script was needed during the test. Same problem was solved by 3 times of clicking at Tableau. This DAX was more difficult to utilize compared to the Tableau s scripting language and the absent of staunch Power BI user communities exacerbated the difficulty when writing DAX scripts. The user communities for Power BI are currently in a nascent stage, and many times, I had to go over the references which were mainly written for experienced programmers. Unlike Power BI, Tableau have strong user communities and they provide a quick fix, allowing a novice to solve intermediate level of questions. Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time; Hawaii has not been exempt from the effects. We re witnessing a large increase in sea levels, which can lead to the erosion of the small islands and eventually displace humans. Climate change also is influencing the way we manage forests, to promote carbon sequestration we must focus on managing forests for sustainable regeneration. Forest regeneration also influences other ecosystem services like cultural, regulating, provisioning and supporting services. Specifically dealing with the presence of feral pigs we see different drivers causing the increase in population and disturbances. Cultural drivers are an issue. There is debate over control methods for the feral pigs has been gridlocked between conservation biologists/environmentalists, hunters and managers. Public hunts have been highly encouraged due to low costs, but hunters are afraid of snare traps that could hurt them and potentially kill their dogs. Conservationists want to restore native vegetation. Managers are seeking public approval and effective means of control. Overall, not enough is being done and human relations are being strained. This is reducing cultural services from the land immensely. Another driver is changing land use and development, which is highly stressing for the ecosystems. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With enough mental determination and/or aid from an outside source, however, one can bring themselves to cross the first threshold, and begin their journey into the heart of the problem. This concerns the presence, the nature and especially the foundation of a particular relationship between government and its citizens. Philosophical Anarchism challenges this relationship. In this endeavor it differs from the position of Political Anarchism, which has as its main goal not only the moral devaluation but also the decline of the state. Conversely, the main method of philosophical anarchism is the rejection of theories that support the political task without necessarily to adopt the position that the state is inevitably evil and it must be abolished. The political authority concerns a grid of exclusive rights on the social life, such as how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main concern of anarchism is that the political limitations are such that create problems as it has to do with the individual freedom and fulfillment. On the one hand, we find our lives to be controlled by political institutions and we take this power for granted. On the other, usually in our lives we want to decide ourselves about major issues that affect us, to be able to make choices and act freely, without the others to decide for us. Then why in the case of the state we consider the control and authority of others over us for granted? The answer is that the states were created in order to serve their citizens. They are good for our lives, destined to make easier and fair the coexistence between us. The states form a scheme that is created by man himself to ameliorate his life. Therefore, they are his choice, a product of the very freedom of man, of his will to govern himself. But this seems to give birth to a paradox; man decided to govern himself because he does not want to be governed. Substantially the paradox is not a paradox. It is only apparently paradoxical. This is because the restrictions are not incompatible with freedom when they derive from it. The appearance of the paradox reflects the idea that the best way to justify the authority and the limitations over people is to demonstrate that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Identity In Hunger Of Memory By Richard Rodriguez The public self is often times not the true self. This indication of a difference between the public and true self leads to the idea that the self and identity of an individual are different concepts. The self, is a person s essential being that makes each individual unique compared to others; whereas the identity, is a person s character that is essentially created to help the individual fit into society. These two concepts begin to form early in life through influences from society, family, and culture. However, as the individual beings to assimilate the world around them, their sense of identity transforms in order to adapt to the new environment, while their sense of self remains the same. I have observed that minerva meetings are places where students are encouraged to take action on an event that they are thinking about everyone is given an equal chance. What has always stuck with me about the meetings is that all clubs and students are encouraged to work together when they come up with the same events and make it even better and not outdo each other. I have had a first hand experience of this because the club that I am involved in wanted to do a week long event on the Syrian Refugee Crisis and we had it planned and someone also said that the he/she wanted to to do a dinner and discussion on this event so we said that we have also thought about this and we were informed that the minerva aren t a place for competition and rather we should combine our ideas and maybe join together and this was a great learning experience for me and others. In her thesis within the opening paragraph, Malico states Many know what it is like to be a spectator, but few know the fighter s experience (Malico, n.d., p. 135). Jones A brief survey in compounds and kennings in OE and ON Ash Gao I chose the definition of kenning to start with, because there is a handbook by Snorri. I then gave some explanations and supplements to his classification according to some modern scholars. Then I argued that OE lacks the pure kenning that ON has. Finally I inserted a story showing compound making as an important skill for skalds, and how it is equally important in OE. Perhaps the most quoted definition of the term kenning is that by Georg Paul Rudolf Meissner in Die Kenningar der Skalden (1921: 2), Die einfache Kenning ist also ein zweigliedriger Ersatz für ein Substantiv der gewöhnlichen Rede , with an addition wesentlich für die Kenning ist, dass sie als Ersatz empfunden wird (12). It even goes back to the days of 2700 B.C. and, though not given labels and limitations, it definitely has an important presence in The Epic of Gilgamesh, written by Anonymous. Yes, it is important. Three of the major game changing events in The Epic of Gilgamesh involve sex, including the refusal of it. One involves using the act of sex to acclimate wild to civilization. Another instance involves the rejection of sexual advances due to self dignity and growth, and, despite it being a great morality move, how the one that was rejected can construe rejection. A little background history: in Sumerian civilization, there is no morality linked with sexuality; it is practically an honor to be a prostitute. This is due to the fact that this literary work is pre Biblically written. In this setting, sexuality is merely that and everyone has the same freedom to operate, sexually, as they please. The topics of infidelity, heterosexuality and homosexuality were null and void. The literary work, When Heroes Love: The Ambiguity of Eros in the Stories of Gilgamesh and David by Susan Ackerman showcases the possible erotic references of Enkidu and Gilgamesh s steamy and complex relationship through wordplay. Some examples include the frequent description of Gilgamesh and Enkidu as brothers ; the sexual nature of the wrestling account; Gilgamesh s abnormal rejection to Ishtar s advances; the deathbed scene in which Enkidu is compared to a bride to Gilgamesh; and, finally, Gilgamesh s mourn over his dead lover and friend. The possible unknown acids were 2 chlorobenzoic acid, 3 chlorobenzoic acid, and 3 methylbenzoic acid. The purification of the isolated unknown acid was performed by recrystallization and its identity was established by analyzing the melting point range of the pure product and comparing it to the provided standards. After completing the extraction, an acid, such as hydrochloric acid, is added to the basic aqueous solution causing the sodium carboxylate salt to change back to the default carboxylic acid, which will precipitate out of solution since it is water insoluble. Recrystallization is a technique when a solute is dissolved in a hot solvent (destruction of the impure crystal lattice) and is then precipitated out of solution as the solvent is immediately cooled (selectively producing a purer lattice). The unknown acid was recrystallized using hot water followed by hot ethanol in order to dissolve the solid, followed by cooling which resulted in the precipitation of the desired product. • 40. St. Athanasius Against Arian Heresy St. Athanasius Against the Arian Heresy The St. Athanasius greatly impacted the Arian heresy. The Arian heresy was very well rooted, and St. Athanasius is recognized as the main Church Father to fight it. The heresy of Arianism started in the early 300s. It was starting to gain followers, so the Church called for the Council of Nicea. The Nicene Creed was made during this Council, and it rebuked the teachings of Arianism, which made it an heresy. Arianism soon rose back from the ashes, and many Church members were turning to it out of fear or corruption. St. Athanasius stayed strong throughout all of this, continuing to preach and write of the heresies of Arianism. He survived five exiles and died peacefully in his bed in the Alexandrian See. Arianism didn t just appear out of thin air, it had a start just like all other heresies. The founder of Arianism was Arius. Arius was a priest in Alexandria, who had studied in Antioch. Some of the subjects of his studies were the works of Origen, Neoplatonism, and Gnosticism. He then started to preach that Jesus was sent by the Father, however not equal to the Father. Making implausible vows can hurt Hillary Clinton during the campaign because she will have an increasing amount of skeptics questioning the honesty and validity of her plans. The people s trust in candidate Clinton can diminish if the people feel her ideas won t be fulfilled. If there is one thing that voters dislike, it s a candidate that promises great success that cannot be achieved. It seems that . This mistake made by former Secretary Clinton is very detrimental and can be used as point against her as she moves on to attempt to become the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Environmental Factors of Human Growth Environmental Factors You often hear the word environment, but do you stop to think what it really means, what it contains, and how it affects you? The actual definition of environment is the circumstances, objects, or conditions by which one is surrounded (Merriam Webster dictionary). Your environment greatly impacts the way you are as a human being. Each and every one of your life experiences are influenced by your environment. Your environment determines if or how your potential to develop is reached. Family, friends, home, school, etc. are all components of your environment. By reading further, you will witness these factors that affect your personal growth and development being explored and discussed. FAMILY When children are very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Your culture and heritage usually help determine many decisions you make in your future. For example, most of the friends you make and keep will probably be of the same heritage and culture you come from. The places you go, like church, celebrations, festivities, etc. are determined by your cultural background. Multicultural influences can altar your relationships with family members as well as impact your values and expectations for your future family. Odds are, if or when you have children you will transfer those same beliefs and traditions that you are used to to them. SCHOOL A quality school environment provides a setting that encourages students to learn and grow. After school activities can provide chances for students to interact with others in clubs or sports. Class curriculum offers courses that stimulate students intellectual growth. Teachers in a quality school environment encourage students by helping them find areas in which they succeed. Teachers also help students find areas in which they need to improve. By doing so, they help students know what decisions to make regarding how to get the most efficient education for them and how they learn best, especially when they get to college. PEERS By interacting with your peers you can make judgements about how you look because you begin to compare your appearance to theirs; how important you are because you compare how much attention they get with how much you ... • 45. Long Term Care Sociology In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in Ohio there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for residents to receive the optimum amount of care possible. Nursing homes can not only include parts in which they provide skilled care by Nurses and Nursing Assistants, but also assisted living for those who just need help from time to time or assistance managing their medication. Residents still have the right to choice when in a nursing home and they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care, toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for anyone, especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including retirement and social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and receive care twenty four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double occupancy room), the cost was nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost across the country is $248 per day for a private room and $222 daily for a semi private room (Costs Of Care), which for a private room can add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with, including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have children or other family members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot be managed at home (due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term care facility to receive help completing tasks needed for simple ... • 46. Piaget s Theory On Child Development Children are not simply small adults who are still growing; they learn differently and experience the world in a variation of ways that opposes adult reasoning. Piaget s theory on child development asserts that there are four stages of cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. Piaget also suggested that human thinking is arranged into schemes, organized mental patterns that represent behaviors and actions (Feldman, 2015, p. 17). These schemes are the building blocks of knowledge and experience growth through two basic principles: assimilation and accommodation (Feldman, 2015). Assimilation refers to the process in which people understand new ideas in relation to their own way of thinking and adapt, where as accommodation refers to changes in the way of thinking caused by new stimuli. Natural observation of children can lend an insight into Piaget s stages of development, which is the method chosen for this study. For this observation two children were selected, one male and one female. Subject A is a Caucasian male, approximately 3 years of age, who has middle class parents, and a stay at home mom; Subject B child is a Caucasian female, also approximately 3 years of age, has middle class parents, and a mother who works part time. According to Piaget s theory, these two subjects are in the preoperational stage. The preoperational stage is a time of complex thinking and reasoning, during this time, ... • 47. 2-Methylphenoxyacetic Acid Synthesis Lab Report The design of this experiment aimed to synthesize 2 methylphenoxyacetic acid from 2 methylphenol and sodium chloroacetate by means on phenol alkylation. 2 Methylphenoxyacetic acid has been used to control the growth in plants and exemplifies a product of synthesis as it is a complex molecule constructed from two simple molecules. This synthesis proceeds by a nucleophilic substitution reaction, more specifically, via SN2 mechanism (see below). An SN2 mechanism s reactants are a nucleophile and a good leaving group (usually a halide ion). Once the crude product is obtained, it is purified by recrystallization with water and collected. To start, a 0.32 g (2.9 mmol) sample of 2 methyphenol (the nucleophile) was weighed into a 10 ml Erlenmeyer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 48. Essay on The Growing Epidemic of Cyberbullying Cyber bullying has been around since the creation of advanced communication technology. In the last few years, however, this issue has become more common, more related to sex and most of all more dangerous. It has gotten so dangerous that children have killed each other and/or committed suicide after having been involved in a cyber bullying incident. Little attention and support from school authorities, more access to computers, and the latest cool thing (social networks) are all factors that have contributed to the rising of cyber bullying practices. Cyber bullying is when a preteen or teen is harassed, threatened, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise molested by another child with the use of technology such as internet, ... By now the victim is already scared to death and psychologically abused. In a lot of cases the abuse escalates to physical abuse. Third characteristic is prevalent sexual and homophobic harassment. Sexual and homophobic harassment is emerging as one of the main reasons a person is bullied. This one not only concentrates on the sexual orientation of the person, but also touches unwanted sexual attention, and sexual coercion. A fourth aspect is that only communications have a permanence and inseparability that are very difficult to erase. For example cell phones are usually carried all the time which makes it difficult for the victim to ignore the message. Teenagers spend a lot of time in their computers which also makes it difficult to ignore emails. Emails are very powerful because they can contain defamatory material or modified pictures and it can be send to us many people as you want. In this characteristic, we can include social networking sites such as My Space, Face book, Hi 5, and many others. Online communication tools such as the ones previously mentioned for pre teens and teenagers began to function approximately 5 years ago and became extremely popular. Especially for girls that like to engage in more social and verbal forms of communication. These sites were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
