Delivering Sustainable Development For The Uk
Delivering Sustainable Development in the UK
Sustainable construction must be considered as the proper response to the ongoing practices that are
currently applied in the construction industry to deliver its products. A study carried out by BREA and
AEAT reveals that only in England, construction, demolition and refurbishment activities produce
around 33% of all waste ; furthermore, around 380 million tonnes of resources are consumed by the
construction industry each year (BRE; AEAT, 2012). The scope of the negative impact the
construction industry is having upon the environment through processes such as the acquiring of
materials, the procedures undertaken to develop products and their eventual deposition, became a UK
government must solve issue. Tony Blair, as a reply to the global scientific consensus of climate
change being a result of human activity stated that we can move the debate from whether there is a
problem to how to deal with it (HM Government, 2011).
Accordingly, the government decided to address this issue by creating a plan to tackle it locally and,
eventually, globally. The implementation of new principles and strategies to proceed towards
sustainability in documents like Meeting the Energy Challenge: A White Paper on Energy (2007),
Securing the Future (2005) and alike, that attempt to drive the industry towards sustainable products,
are an evidence of the government s active agenda to address the problem. In addition, schemes as

Relationship of the Messages of Amos and Hosea to the Mosaic Covenant
Assignment: From the oracles of Amos and Hosea show how their messages were true to the Mosaic
revelation. (Think particularly of the Sinai covenant blessings and curses and the new beginning).
1.0 Introduction
In completing this assignment, I shall first endeavour to answer the question: What are the key
elements of the Mosaic revelation? In addition, a brief overview of the n
New Beginnings promise will be presented. Following this, I shall then relate the oracles of Amos and
Hosea to the Mosaic revelation in order to demonstrate that their messages were true to the Mosaic
revelation.

His compassion is particularly evident in His provision for the poor, the oppressed and the
underprivileged in the Mosaic Law. And when the Israelites forsook His covenant and were subjected
to His judgement, it was on the basis of His mercy and compassion that He promised restoration upon
their repentance:
None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his
anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers
(Deuteronomy 13:7). 2.1.5 His Covenant Keeping Characteristic
God particularly revealed Himself to Moses as a covenant making and covenant keeping God. No
doubt, Moses had in depth knowledge of the Abrahamic covenant prior to His commission on Mount
Horeb, but at that Mount of God , he was clearly instructed that it was on the basis of the Abrahamic
covenant that God was now setting things in motion to deliver the children of Israel and to bring them
into the land He promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:
God spoke to Moses and said to him, ‘I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob,
as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. I also established
my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as sojourners.
Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians hold as slaves, and I
have remembered my covenant. Say therefore to

Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching
Philosophy of Teaching
By: Tambra Reynolds
Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie
their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school year,
I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was terminally ill
and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her parents were
entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be her last days. In
those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was no next year; and
the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things down and didn t push
quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather was nice and the sky was
pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the
children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren t supposed to
die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery s*
passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an educator. Her passing taught me
that every moment matters. Whether a child has one year left in life, or many, the memories they make
now will impact their future.
This year, when I walked into my classroom on the first day of school, I could see her

Gunpowder Plot Analysis
Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The Gunpowder
Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder
Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the
two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plot had on
the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the
Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth.
The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is
bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her
first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by
Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas
Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman
Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators
wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the
picture.
The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament
members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament
was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to
meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented
room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy
members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose
Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant
(www.historylearningsite.co.uk).
The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. The plot was
discovered, in the official version, through an anonymous letter to Lord Monteagle, a Catholic,
warning him not to attend the State Opening. Whether the letter was genuine or a forgery is uncertain.
In any event, on the 4 November

Analysis Of A Hunger Artist
How can one expect his or her work to perpetually stay in fashion without adapting it to the taste of
the public? Novelties naturally draw more people than constancy, since the new is always more
interesting than the old. This is an unchangeable nature of humanity. One of the major stimulating
factors to the technological advancement of humanity is the fact that they look for newer and or more
interesting things to replace the old. Anyone who aims to gain and maintain popularity must
understand this essential principle to be successful. It is contradictory for one to continuously retain
popularity while not providing interest stimulating factors. Kafka proves this theory through the
melancholy life of the protagonist in A Hunger Artist . The artist s performance was once popular
within his community because the public found the suffering of the artist sparks excitement. However,
as time pass people lost interest in watching him suffer. The artist unrealistically expects the public to
be as passionate as he is for fasting which caused him to blame the public for misunderstanding him.
The hunger artist is someone who refuses to adapt his art to the public while expecting the popularity.
Through the depiction of the miserable life of the hunger artist, Kafka conveys the message that it is
impossible to attain fashionability and maintain an unchanging mindset in the ever evolving nature of
society.
It is nearly impossible for the public to be passionate about every product just

He is best known for the invention of the traffic signal light. Although he may not have been the first
to invent the traffic light, he was the first person to patent it. Morgan was born in Kentucky, and was
the son of former slaves. He only went to elementary school, but he continued to learn a lot on his
own, and became very independent. According to the book, Garrett Augustus Morgan: Businessman,
Inventor, Good Citizen, by Mary Oluyone, In 1920, Morgan went into the newspaper business. He
was very successful, and eventually bought a car. While he was driving along the streets of Ohio, he
realized how unsafe intersections were, and wanted to make driving safer. Morgan created a new kind
of traffic signal on November 20, 1923. This was the first traffic signal patented, but not the first
invented. His traffic signal was a T shaped pole with arms (but with no lights) that had three signs, a
red stop, a green go, and another red stop in all directions. This last signal let walkers cross the street.
An electric clock controlled it. This new traffic signal became very popular, and was used all around
the USA. Morgan sold his device to the General Electric Corporation for $40,000 (a huge sum at that
time). His device was used until the three light traffic light was

The Pearl Symbolism Essay
The short novel The Pearl by John Steinbeck is based on an old folktale and is about a man named
Kino, his wife named Juana, their baby named Coyotito, and the struggle they face when Kino finds
the pearl of the world. Steinbeck shows that materialism and greed, left unchecked, can lead to
immoral behavior through the characters of the town doctor, Kino, and the three attackers. Steinbeck
uses the doctor as a symbol to represent the materialism and greed, left unchecked, can lead to
immoral behavior. This seen when the town doctor refuses to treat the dying Coyotito. The narrator
states, Have I nothing better to do then cure insect bites for little Indians ? I am a doctor not a
veterinarian. ( ?). This shows that the doctor is too greedy to treat the baby because he knows they
have no money to pay for it. He is a doctor and should be willing to help someone, payment or no
payment. Another time the doctor becomes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows this when Juana is trying to throw the pearl back but Kino beats her. The narrator states, Her
arm was up to throw when he leaped at her and caught her arm and wrenched the pearl from her. He
struck her in the face with his clenched fist and she fell among the boulders, and he kicked her in her
side. ( ?) Here Kino beats up his wife in order to save a pearl that was tearing his family apart. He no
longer cares about who he hurts or what he hurts just that he gets what he is after. Another example of
Kino s greed is when is going to sell the pearl. Kino declines an offer from a pearl buyer, not because
he knows the pearl is more valuable but because he wants more money, more things, more
opportunities, and is he not willing to give that up under any circumstances. All of these show that
being greedy can put us in unwanted situations that could have been

Minimum Legal Drinking Age Analysis
The age of 21 is the appropriate age to allow the consumption of alcohol in the United States.
Moreover, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that in 2010,
552 lives were saved by the minimum legal drinking age (Voas, 2013, p. 1601). But traffic safety is
not the only concern, if lowering the minimum legal drinking age, health and behavior issues will also
be of concern. The possible consequences of lowering the minimum legal drinking age to 18 may
include an increase on the number of deaths caused by alcohol related accidents, high schoolers
underage drinking problem, and alcohol related sexual assaults. Therefore, I do not support the
lowering of the minimum legal drinking age to 18.
According to Wechsler and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since alcohol appears to enhance interest in sex, (Hart Ksir, 2015, p. 221) young people drink and
could engage in sexual risky behavior such as having unprotected sex or casual sex with multiple
partners. A consequence of unprotected sex could be an unwanted pregnancy or a sexual transmitted
disease. Many studies have found that drinking alcohol at the time of the offense have been reported
on more than one third of all rapes and sexual assaults (Hart Ksir, 2015). Alcohol impairs the thoughts
and places the young adult drinking illegally at risk of sexual assault. The alcohol use increases the
chance for sexual assault including rape.
I am in favor of the minimum legal drinking age to remain 21 as it is working keeping the alcohol out
of the hands of teens. The minimum legal drinking age law prevents alcohol related fatalities, high
schoolers underage drinking problem, and alcohol related sexual assaults. The effects of the alcohol
are already detriment and its consumption by those younger than 21 will create safety, health and
behavioral challenges, so the age control strategy should not be

A Study On Radarsat 1
RADARSAT 1 was a satellite launched by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in 1995 that
incorporated a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensor operating in the C band (frequency of 5.3 GHz).
RADARSAT 1 stopped transmitting because of a technical problem in March 2013. The RADARSAT
1 images were ordered from the Alaska Satellite Facility website (www.asf.alaska.edu). The
RADARSAT satellite was designed with seven SAR imaging beam modes. Each beam mode offers a
different areal coverage (from ~50 km x 50 km/scene to ~500 km x 500 km/scene) and resolution
(from 8 m to 100 m). The RADARSAT instrument also offers a range of incidence angles from 10°
59° allowing us to choose from a selection of beam positions within each beam mode. RADARSAT 1

RADARSAT 1 was also implemented to provide data products for commercial applications such as
shipping, oil exploration, offshore oil drilling, and resource management. RADARSAT 1 has been
used to collect substantial and significant science data sets of Antarctica and Arctic sea ice. For this
study the Standard Mode was used and the SAR images have a swath width of 100km and a spatial
resolution of about 25 30 m. For this research, images were selected in beam modes 1, 2, 3, and 5
(where the S denotes Standard Mode ), that provided lower incident angles between 20 42o in
descending mode.
For this research, nine RADARSAT 1 SAR images were acquired over the Ward Farm SCAN region
during summer period of 2007 while twenty one RADARSAT 1 SAR images were acquired over the
Nenana SCAN region during summer period of 2006. The choice for chosen the RADARSAT 1
images was due to availability of the in situ liquid water content, which allowed us to calibrate and

Introduction The classic HR model
Over the last decade a classic model, based on the work of Dave Ulrich et al, has emerged that has
three elements (recently he has added to the model but these three remain the core). We don t need to
go into detail but we will simply highlight these three key elements: business partners, shared services
and centres of expertise: Business Partners Establish relationships with customers line/ business units

Drivers for change: Dissatisfaction in many organisations with HR s contribution to the restructurings
and mergers in the early 2000 s. Increasing disillusion with HR s contribution beyond following the
latest management fad. This disillusion has led to calls to reduce the cost of HR and to see harder
measures of outcomes, whilst increasing HR s flexibility and business focus. The move in many
businesses to outsource non core activities including HR whilst providing a stronger business
contribution by enhancing HR s contribution to strategic business initiatives. The change in
organisational models themselves that are trying to balance the need for centrally driven efficiencies
with locally driven responsiveness. This highlights the challenge of providing strong functional
expertise with the need to align with different business needs. A shift in the role of HR from being
employee focused to an organisational and management focus. The adoption of ERP systems
accelerated by legacy fears in the run up to Y2K and the use of these systems to improve and
systematise administrative and HR processes so they become more efficient and consistent whilst
linking seamlessly to the front office. As one commentator said: The human resources function within
companies today needs to look at itself much more as a business, because that is how executives are

In this example the table shows where an employer was asked to hire more employees in order to
cover 100 departments with 30 different areas. Each new employee would work in areas 1, 2, and 3.
The area assigned to the employee would be determined by the employer him/herself. The table above
givens an example of how it will go. Then the overall question would be how the assigned areas
would be split up.
When it comes to converting the table above into a graph to the answer, I am at a little bit of a loss.
The employee numbers 1, 2, and 3 would then be converted into vertices D1, D2, and D3 and the
different areas into A1, A2, and A3 which is shown in the diagram below: In the diagram you have to
replace the S s with D s and the C s with the A s.
I believe the assigned areas would be given to the employees by the employer. An employer would be
assign to an employee by random. The employee would follow the employer s number through the
graph. This would start in area 1 and continue on through 3. If you have 100 employers and 30
employees they would be assigned in areas as 34, 33, and 33 this would allow all areas to be covered
and the jobs completed in

Hockey became a sport that everyone could bond over. From natives, immigrants, and locals, hockey
was able to form a community s collective identity regardless of where they were from and their socio

Even though the two countries are connected, Canadians pride themselves on being different from the

opportunity for them to distinguish themselves from Americans. As another powerful nation, the
Olympics becomes a time for Canadians to prove that they are a contender among the United States,

Analysis Of Sharon Olds The One Girl At The Boys Party
While many leaders in politics, business, science, and education strive for change, there still persists a
deep divide between male and female roles in the workplace and in society. This gap begins in
childhood as demonstrated in Sharon Olds (b. 1942) The One Girl at the Boys Party (1984). This
poem describes a young girl who attends a swimming party where she is the only female guest. It
relies on science and math imagery to contrast the boys physicality with the girl s intellectual ability,
and to juxtapose her physical features with the boys features. This figurative language creates a
distinction to challenge the disparity between male and female roles and their separation in social life,
which begins at a young age. Olds use of science and math imagery serves as an extended metaphor
for the juxtaposition between the one girl at the party and the other guests, which represents the social
divide between the genders. Olds references to math and science contrasts the boys physicality with
the subject s intellectual ability. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker mentions that they [the
boys] tower and/bristle, she stands there smooth and sleek,/her math scores unfolding in the air around
her (Olds 234). This description of the party guests creates an automatic physical distinction between
the girl and boys (by comparing their tower[ing] and bristl[ing] appearance from her smooth and sleek
one), but also wordlessly defines her by her math scores, rather

Tom Brennan Analysis
The novel The Story of Tom Brennan by J.C. Burke, focuses on a devastating car accident in a small
town, caused by one character who was drink driving. This one event has an extreme effect on a
family, who struggle to come to grips with the situation. Tom and Kylie struggle to begin their new
life at their Gran s place in Coghill, after moving there from their home in the small town of Mumbilli.
In Coghill, Tom and Kylie also start at St. Benedict s where they react so differently to the same
scenario. The author J.C. Burke used emotive and descriptive dialogue, first person narration and
symbolism to demonstrate just how differently people can react to the same situation.
Burke uses various techniques such as descriptive and emotive dialogue and first person narration to
portray just how differently Tom and Kylie react to their family s move from Mumbilli to Coghill. The
Brennan family left their home in the dead of night, and moved to Coghill, to escape the pressure and
anger that they faced from the small community in Mumbilli. After Daniel s accident and sentence, the
house was no longer a safe place for the family, especially for the children Tom and Kylie. Even
though the children were faced with grave danger in Mumbilli, the place was still somewhere they
loved and enjoyed. This is what made the move to Coghill difficult for the children. Tom especially

Parenting Styles Research Paper
Parenting is something that usually comes naturally to people. There are no hard fast how to manuals
or rules to parenting. People generally just learn as they go. Most things are just second nature, like
feeding, clothing and generally caring for a child. However, as a child grows and other children are
born, parenting becomes more then simply handling the child s everyday needs. Sometimes parents
feel they need some help in deciding the best way to parent their children. There have been many
people who have spoken out about parenting and offered advice and assistance to parents in need.
Parenting styles are an example of something a parent can do to help them with their parenting. A
parenting style is basically a way to describe how a parent parents their child or children. There are 3

Pros And Cons Of The US Voting System
The US voting system is quite singular. Indeed, this system does not allow the direct vote for
presidential candidate. Instead, constituency members in the fifty states and the District of Columbia
take part in an election for a slate of electors. They cast their vote for a specific presidential ticket
including a candidate president and his or her vice president. The political parties in each state opt for
a slate of electors. The constituents chosen by the party of the candidate winning the good number
popular votes in a state become the electors for that state. This means, adding together the full amount
number of votes transversely the US in presidential elections, the system impose the vote counting

Blessed Are The Merciful, For They Shall Receive Mercy
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Introduction: You may be familiar with the
story of Corrie Ten Boom who was sent to a concentration camp along with her father and sister for
hiding Jews. Her father and sister died in the camps, but Corrie Ten Boom was released due to a
clerical error. After the war she spent time going to churches to speak about God s forgiveness. It is
amazing because she witnessed women in the concentration camps brutally tortured and killed. But
she believed that her God was a God of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. After the war, she returned to
Germany to speak and write about the mercy, grace, and forgiveness of God. She taught that lack of
mercy and forgiveness was a sin against God because we have no reason not to forgive anyone since
Christ is the one who has forgiven us of our sin. How could we hold it back from anyone else? After
the war she returned to Germany and this is what she wrote in her book, The Hiding Place, speaking
about one of the most difficult times she was faced with granting forgiveness. She was asked to go and
speak to a church on forgiveness. She spent her time talking about how God forgives and that was a
message the Germans needed to hear as the war had just ended. She said when God forgives us it is as
if our sins were cast into the deepest part of the ocean, gone forever. After she was done speaking, one
of the guards, who she describes as one of the most wicked and cruel guards in the

The main focus of the present study will be to observe the effects of a role playing game on the
anxiety and confidence levels among college sophomores enrolled in the CUNY institutional system.
Specifically, this study will observe the effect of World of Warcraft on students perceived levels of
anxiety and confidence. 200 CUNY sophomores enrolled in a Calculus II course will be measured by
the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale 7 at weeks 1, 7, and 13 and by the Self Confidence Inventory
at weeks 2, 8, and 14. Students randomly assigned to the experimental condition will complete two
forty five minute World of Warcraft sessions for a total of ninety minutes a week for a period of fifteen
weeks. It is predicted that students in the experimental condition will have a significant decrease in
their scores on the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale 7 and an increase in their scores on the Self
Confidence Inventory at the end of the study. Also of interest in the present study is the academic
achievement among both the control and experimental participants. Participants GPA will be recorded
from their Calculus I course and will again be recorded at the end of the semester in their Calculus II
course.

Fermentation Mic Essay
Using Selective Media to Monitor the Fermentation Process of Cabbage and Cucumber, for Fourteen
Days
Abstract:
Introduction:
The goal of the ecological succession lab is to demonstrate succession with the fermentation of
cabbage and cucumbers. The cabbage will ferment into sauerkraut and the cucumber will ferment to
pickles during fermentation process that will changes the species structure and the community of time.
During the fermentation process we watched the pH become more acidic, since the desired bacteria
would produce lactic acid. The lactic acid would control by inhibiting the spoilage of the cabbage or
the cucumber. This was seen by the increase of the acidity in both of the environment, which was seen
as the pH went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additional materials were, pH strips, test tubes, P 200 micropipette, 3 mL syringe and fermentation
jar. The pH was measured with the aid of pH indicator strips, to determine if the pH was dropping or
rising. The dilutions were performed with the P 200 micropippetor, the dilution factors changes
through the experiment, in relation to the bacterial growth and ranged from 10 1 to 10 5. The
fermentation jar was packed with ¼ of a head of lettuce and 5% salt water solution from the sink. The
5% solution was achieved by using 25g of salt in 500mL of H2O. The TSA agar plates were the
control environments, one aerobic and the other anaerobic. The WN5 was for the anaerobic and
microaerophilic conditions and had cyclohexane and 5% salt that selects for bacteria. The PS agar dish
had CFC supplement (cetrimide, fucidin and cephalonidine) and Irgasam. The EC dish had bile salt
that selected for Gram negative bacteria. The LSA plate allowed for the differentiation of lactobacilli
and streptococci. All of the above plates were incubated at room temperature of 25°C. The plates were
counted for formed colonies on the following days: 0,2,7,9 and 14; also the pH was taken. The pH was
taken by removing some of the fermentation liquid and placed on the indicator strip.
Results:
The cabbage pH went from a neutral 7.0 to 4.0, which was relatively acidic. Refer to figure 1 and 2 to

The Philosophy Of Total Quality Management
Total Quality Management (TQM) is the art of managing quality of whole activities of any
organization. TQM is a philosophy and we can say it is also a set of guiding principles that represent
the foundation of a continuously improving organization. It is the application to improve all the
processes within an organization and exceed customer needs issues of customer satisfaction and
guidance on implementing the marketing concept.
Total quality management deals completely with the quality word. It focuses on the quality of
products, quality of services, quality of management of staff, quality of services deliver to patrons and
so on. So the question is arising what is quality? In general terms quality relates to the feature or
characters or value of a product or service or similar offering.

Attempts to implement TQM regularly fail because top management does not lead and get committed
instead it delegates and pays edge service. Commitment and personal involvement is required from
top management in creating and deploying clear quality values and goals consistent with the
objectives of the organization, and in creating and deploying definite systems, methods and
performance measures for achieving those goals. These systems and methods guide all quality
activities and encourage participation by all employees.
Continuous improvement
Continuous improvement of all activities is at the heart of TQM. it is recognized that customer
satisfaction can only be obtained by providing a high quality product, continuous improvement of the
quality of the product. It is seen as the only way to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. As
well as recognizing the connection between product quality and customer satisfaction, TQM also
recognizes that product quality is the result of process quality. As a result, there is a focus on
continuous improvement of the organization s processes.

Research Paper On The Angelus Millet
L Angélus, also known as The Angelus, was painted and completed between 1857 and 1859 Jean
François Millet. Millet is most known for his scenes of rural farmers. The Angelus, a fifty five and a
half by sixty six centimeter oil on canvas painting followed this theme. It was commissioned by the
wealthy patron Thomas Gold Appleton. It was never collected by Appleton, instead it was passed
around for nearly forty years until it was donated by Alfred Chauchard to the French State in 1909. It
then was placed in the Louve until 1986 when it was transferred to the Musée d Orsay, also in Paris.
Millet stated himself, in 1865, that he was inspired by a childhood event when creating The Angelus.

was recognized by being named Chevalier de la Legion d Honneur, or Knight of The Legion of Honor.
This is a very prestigious award given by the French State. Only two years later he and his family fled
Barbizon due to the Franco Prussian War and did not return until the following year. Four years after
returning, he and his wife, Catherine, held a religious wedding ceremony; they originally had a civil
union. Seventeen days after the ceremony Millet died. Millet lacked recognition until the later years of
his life, but after his death he became a source of inspiration for some of the world s most famous
artists. Vincent Van Gough was largely influenced, during his earlier works, by Millet. Van Gough
would write his brother and mention Millet very often. Millet also influenced other artists such as
Claude Monet and Georges Seurat. Mark Twain also was inspired by Millet, causing Twain to make
Millet the main character in his play Is He Dead? (1898). Millet s work largely centered around the
poor rural farmers working in the fields. The Angelus depicts a moment in a farmer s day in which
they would stop working in order to recite the Angelus prayer. This painting derived from a childhood

Family And Family Life
50 years ago, a prominent stereotype in America portrayed the men as hardworking breadwinners
while on the opposite side of the spectrum the woman stayed home taking care of the house, children,
cooking and cleaning. In the current generation, a lot has changed, roles have slightly switched and
men and women both have the opportunity to work in the field they desire. These changes have
brought new values and brought forth many obstacles with balancing the family/work life. Although
the stereotype about the father being the one working and the mother staying home changed
significantly over the years, when both parents are working and trying to keep their family together
there are many obstacles that come along. In today s society, many face the complication of not being
able to spend enough time with their children due to work, not being as flexible in balancing the work
life versus family life and having to face the situation of trying to pick between choosing their child
over a dream job.
To begin with, today it is very common that both parents go to work in order to support their family,
but sometimes either mom, dad, or both can be working too much and not realize that they can be
missing out on being a part of their child s life later regretting their pass decisions as their children
grow older. It is very common that some parents put more time into working rather than spending time
with their child and do not realize that it affects their family and their child due to

How Touch And Light Technology Is A Viable Option For A...
Introduction
Touch to Light technology is very useful in a modern day warehouse. The technology is expansive
covering pick to light as well as put to light. The purpose of touch to light is to increase productivity
of workers in a warehouse by linking a system of light, button, cartons, and an ERP, Enterprise
Resource Planning, and or a WMS, Warehouse Management System. Many benefits are associated
with Touch to Light include increased accuracy and productivity, high pick rates, improved safety, and
much more. While these are great to have it is important to weigh them against the negatives. Cons of
this technology include difficulty in integration, costly to install, and less than ideal utilization of
warehouse space. If touch to light technology is deemed a viable option for a warehouse many
practical uses can be found including faster order completions, better working conditions, and better
productivity and accuracy.
Purpose of Touch to Light
Companies that operate high volume, fast moving and complex warehouses are always looking for
ways to streamline the processes of their warehouses through the use of technology (Murray). The
picking and packing processes in a warehouse are the most time consuming and costliest processes in
a warehouse in terms of labor, accounting for about 50% of the total labor costs (How). Those two
activities, because of their heavy labor costs, are prime areas for a company to improve efficiencies
and reduce costs as much as possible. One way

The Evolution Of The English Language In The 18th Century
In order to be successful, humans must constantly adapt to the perpetually changing world. This
evolution is evident in anything from a slight change in linguistics, to a major change in social order.
Language and style were changing notions of the world and of God s design in creating it. Habits of
thought that had prevailed during the medieval period now seemed to be incompatible with knowledge
derived from the experience of nature. ( Nature and Change 646). One way to examine the changes in
society that have transpired, is by analyzing literature. Authors of the middle ages, the early modern
period, and the restoration and 18th century translate the discrepancies of english linguistics, religion,
thematics, and views on women in their literature.
The English language is a complex form of communication that is constantly changing and adapting
throughout time. A major aspect that distinguishes Middle English from Modern English is called the
Great Vowel Shift. This shift was a progressive change, throughout multiple centuries, in
pronunciation that resulted in the long vowel sounds being made higher and further forward in the
mouth ( Great Vowel Shift ). Geoffrey Chaucer, of the Middle Ages, may be used as an example of
this shift. In his literature, a word such as lyf was pronounced as leef and later became the modern
word life. During the modern period many new words, between 1500 and 1650, were added to the
language ( The English Renaissance ). Despite the

One way to have revieve good, quality sleep is to have a sleep routine. A tactic some use to ensure

The Stigma Of Mental Institutions
Introduction: Main stream media has contributed to the stigma of mental institutions of being a place
where violent criminals are housed and treated to horrified surgical experiments by mad scientists.
Unfortunately, the stigmas associated are both true and false. Hollywood s representation of the
mentally ill are perpetrators of crimes that are unexplainable. Some may be suffering from
schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, PTSD, psychotic killers that follow the path of a mentor.
The list unfortunately goes on. These individuals are usually placed in a mental asylum that houses
thousands of mentally unstable patients that under go various treatments such as shock treatment or
lobotomies. Many forget that Hollywood s goal is to entertain people, not teach them (Uwujaren).
What is portrayed isn t the entirety of the truth, and many fail to understand that. Due to the increasing
concern of ignorant populations deeply in betted with a cultural fear, the protests to close down these
mental institutions were hard to miss. Many had subjected to disagree with the many methods of

The Importance Of Folate As A Water Soluble B Vitamin
Folate
Folate is a water soluble B vitamin that is found in a wide variety of foods such as vegetables
(asparagus and spinach), lentils, dry beans, fruits and whole grain cereals.6 Apart from its traditional
name, folate is also referred to by its many physiologic forms, folic acid, folinic acid (leukovorin) or 5
methyltetrahydrofolate (5 MTHF).20 Once absorbed through the small intestines (specifically
jejunum), folate undergoes several activation reactions within the liver leading to various different
biologically active forms. Chief among these is the formation of 5 MTHF, its circulatory form within
the blood that can freely cross the blood brain barrier and subsequently into the cerebrospinal fluid.
This form goes on to play a crucial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women of childbearing age are recommended to take 600mcg DFE during pregnancy, starting before
conception if possible and 500ug while breastfeeding. However, when adequate physiologic levels of
folate decline it can lead to serious and potentially life threatening conditions. Children born to
mothers with inadequate intake of supplemental folic acid during pregnancy suffer from devastating
neural tube defects. Adults often present with symptoms of macrocytic or megaloblastic anemia and
increased levels of the amino acid homocystein, which can be potentially neurotoxic.20 Several
studies have also linked folate deficiency to increased risk for developing cognitive deficits and
depression.20
Folate deficiency has several different causes. Most apparent among these is inadequate dietary intake
of B vitamins.20 Several drugs that can lead to folate deficiency are oral contraceptives, antibiotics,
anticonvulsants, antacids and alcohol. Also, patients with cancer often experience rapid depletion of
stores due to overactive cellular proliferation.20 Other prominent causes can include malabsorption
through the jejunum due to inborn errors of metabolism, bacterial overgrowth or intestinal
inflammatory conditions (e.g., Atrophic Gastritis, IBD). Finally, people with genetic polymorphisms
of the C677T and A1298C variants of 5, 10 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene show
reduced enzyme activity and lower efficiency of folate

Delivering Sustainable Development For The Uk Delivering Sustainable Development in the UK Sustainable construction must be considered as the proper response to the ongoing practices that are currently applied in the construction industry to deliver its products. A study carried out by BREA and AEAT reveals that only in England, construction, demolition and refurbishment activities produce around 33% of all waste ; furthermore, around 380 million tonnes of resources are consumed by the construction industry each year (BRE; AEAT, 2012). The scope of the negative impact the construction industry is having upon the environment through processes such as the acquiring of materials, the procedures undertaken to develop products and their eventual deposition, became a UK government must solve issue. Tony Blair, as a reply to the global scientific consensus of climate change being a result of human activity stated that we can move the debate from whether there is a problem to how to deal with it (HM Government, 2011). Accordingly, the government decided to address this issue by creating a plan to tackle it locally and, eventually, globally. The implementation of new principles and strategies to proceed towards sustainability in documents like Meeting the Energy Challenge: A White Paper on Energy (2007), Securing the Future (2005) and alike, that attempt to drive the industry towards sustainable products, are an evidence of the government s active agenda to address the problem. • 4. Philosophy And Philosophy Of Teaching Philosophy of Teaching By: Tambra Reynolds Every August, a group of second graders enter my classroom. I teach them how to read and write, tie their shoes, and by June, make sure they are prepared for third grade. In the middle of last school year, I received a new student. She was a beautiful, bubbly little girl. I soon learned she was terminally ill and one of her last wishes was to return to school. I was incredibly humbled her parents were entrusting their daughter into my care and sharing her with me during what would be her last days. In those months to follow, I learned how fragile life could be. For Avery*, there was no next year; and the biggest days of her life were playing out right in front of me. I slowed things down and didn t push quite so hard. I gave an extra 15 minutes for recess, just because the weather was nice and the sky was pretty. I would sit on the rug and read three stories in a row until my voice gave out, because the children were loving the performance. I knew it was my job to be joyful. Children aren t supposed to die. We all know and believe this truism. But the reality is, sometimes children do die. Avery s* passing profoundly impacted not only my entire class, but me as an educator. Her passing taught me that every moment matters. Whether a child has one year left in life, or many, the memories they make now will impact their future. This year, when I walked into my classroom on the first day of school, I could see her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gunpowder Plot Analysis Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The Gunpowder Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plot had on the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth. The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the picture. The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant (www.historylearningsite.co.uk). The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. The plot was discovered, in the official version, through an anonymous letter to Lord Monteagle, a Catholic, warning him not to attend the State Opening. Whether the letter was genuine or a forgery is uncertain. In any event, on the 4 November ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of A Hunger Artist How can one expect his or her work to perpetually stay in fashion without adapting it to the taste of the public? Novelties naturally draw more people than constancy, since the new is always more interesting than the old. This is an unchangeable nature of humanity. One of the major stimulating factors to the technological advancement of humanity is the fact that they look for newer and or more interesting things to replace the old. Anyone who aims to gain and maintain popularity must understand this essential principle to be successful. It is contradictory for one to continuously retain popularity while not providing interest stimulating factors. Kafka proves this theory through the melancholy life of the protagonist in A Hunger Artist . The artist s performance was once popular within his community because the public found the suffering of the artist sparks excitement. However, as time pass people lost interest in watching him suffer. The artist unrealistically expects the public to be as passionate as he is for fasting which caused him to blame the public for misunderstanding him. The hunger artist is someone who refuses to adapt his art to the public while expecting the popularity. Through the depiction of the miserable life of the hunger artist, Kafka conveys the message that it is impossible to attain fashionability and maintain an unchanging mindset in the ever evolving nature of society. It is nearly impossible for the public to be passionate about every product just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although he may not have been the first to invent the traffic light, he was the first person to patent it. Morgan was born in Kentucky, and was the son of former slaves. According to the book, Garrett Augustus Morgan: Businessman, Inventor, Good Citizen, by Mary Oluyone, In 1920, Morgan went into the newspaper business. He was very successful, and eventually bought a car. While he was driving along the streets of Ohio, he realized how unsafe intersections were, and wanted to make driving safer. Morgan created a new kind of traffic signal on November 20, 1923. This was the first traffic signal patented, but not the first invented. His traffic signal was a T shaped pole with arms (but with no lights) that had three signs, a red stop, a green go, and another red stop in all directions. This last signal let walkers cross the street. An electric clock controlled it. This new traffic signal became very popular, and was used all around the USA. • 8. The Pearl Symbolism Essay The short novel The Pearl by John Steinbeck is based on an old folktale and is about a man named Kino, his wife named Juana, their baby named Coyotito, and the struggle they face when Kino finds the pearl of the world. Steinbeck shows that materialism and greed, left unchecked, can lead to immoral behavior through the characters of the town doctor, Kino, and the three attackers. Steinbeck uses the doctor as a symbol to represent the materialism and greed, left unchecked, can lead to immoral behavior. This seen when the town doctor refuses to treat the dying Coyotito. The narrator states, Have I nothing better to do then cure insect bites for little Indians ? I am a doctor not a veterinarian. ( ?). Here Kino beats up his wife in order to save a pearl that was tearing his family apart. He no longer cares about who he hurts or what he hurts just that he gets what he is after. Another example of Kino s greed is when is going to sell the pearl. • 9. Minimum Legal Drinking Age Analysis The age of 21 is the appropriate age to allow the consumption of alcohol in the United States. Moreover, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that in 2010, 552 lives were saved by the minimum legal drinking age (Voas, 2013, p. 1601). But traffic safety is not the only concern, if lowering the minimum legal drinking age, health and behavior issues will also be of concern. The possible consequences of lowering the minimum legal drinking age to 18 may include an increase on the number of deaths caused by alcohol related accidents, high schoolers underage drinking problem, and alcohol related sexual assaults. Alcohol impairs the thoughts and places the young adult drinking illegally at risk of sexual assault. The alcohol use increases the chance for sexual assault including rape. I am in favor of the minimum legal drinking age to remain 21 as it is working keeping the alcohol out of the hands of teens. The minimum legal drinking age law prevents alcohol related fatalities, high schoolers underage drinking problem, and alcohol related sexual assaults. The effects of the alcohol are already detriment and its consumption by those younger than 21 will create safety, health and behavioral challenges, so the age control strategy should not be ... The employee numbers 1, 2, and 3 would then be converted into vertices D1, D2, and D3 and the different areas into A1, A2, and A3 which is shown in the diagram below: In the diagram you have to replace the S s with D s and the C s with the A s. I believe the assigned areas would be given to the employees by the employer. An employer would be assign to an employee by random. The employee would follow the employer s number through the graph. • 17. Analysis Of Sharon Olds The One Girl At The Boys Party While many leaders in politics, business, science, and education strive for change, there still persists a deep divide between male and female roles in the workplace and in society. This gap begins in childhood as demonstrated in Sharon Olds (b. 1942) The One Girl at the Boys Party (1984). This poem describes a young girl who attends a swimming party where she is the only female guest. It relies on science and math imagery to contrast the boys physicality with the girl s intellectual ability, and to juxtapose her physical features with the boys features. This figurative language creates a distinction to challenge the disparity between male and female roles and their separation in social life, which begins at a young age. Olds use of science and math imagery serves as an extended metaphor for the juxtaposition between the one girl at the party and the other guests, which represents the social divide between the genders. Olds references to math and science contrasts the boys physicality with the subject s intellectual ability. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker mentions that they [the boys] tower and/bristle, she stands there smooth and sleek,/her math scores unfolding in the air around her (Olds 234). This description of the party guests creates an automatic physical distinction between the girl and boys (by comparing their tower[ing] and bristl[ing] appearance from her smooth and sleek one), but also wordlessly defines her by her math scores, rather ... Millet s work largely centered around the poor rural farmers working in the fields. The Angelus depicts a moment in a farmer s day in which they would stop working in order to recite the Angelus prayer. This painting derived from a childhood memory that Millet wished to ... • 34. Family And Family Life 50 years ago, a prominent stereotype in America portrayed the men as hardworking breadwinners while on the opposite side of the spectrum the woman stayed home taking care of the house, children, cooking and cleaning. In the current generation, a lot has changed, roles have slightly switched and men and women both have the opportunity to work in the field they desire. These changes have brought new values and brought forth many obstacles with balancing the family/work life. Although the stereotype about the father being the one working and the mother staying home changed significantly over the years, when both parents are working and trying to keep their family together there are many obstacles that come along. In today s society, many face the complication of not being able to spend enough time with their children due to work, not being as flexible in balancing the work life versus family life and having to face the situation of trying to pick between choosing their child over a dream job. To begin with, today it is very common that both parents go to work in order to support their family, but sometimes either mom, dad, or both can be working too much and not realize that they can be missing out on being a part of their child s life later regretting their pass decisions as their children grow older. It is very common that some parents put more time into working rather than spending time with their child and do not realize that it affects their family and their child due to ... • 35. How Touch And Light Technology Is A Viable Option For A... Introduction Touch to Light technology is very useful in a modern day warehouse. The technology is expansive covering pick to light as well as put to light. The purpose of touch to light is to increase productivity of workers in a warehouse by linking a system of light, button, cartons, and an ERP, Enterprise Resource Planning, and or a WMS, Warehouse Management System. Many benefits are associated with Touch to Light include increased accuracy and productivity, high pick rates, improved safety, and much more. While these are great to have it is important to weigh them against the negatives. Cons of this technology include difficulty in integration, costly to install, and less than ideal utilization of warehouse space. If touch to light technology is deemed a viable option for a warehouse many practical uses can be found including faster order completions, better working conditions, and better productivity and accuracy. Purpose of Touch to Light Companies that operate high volume, fast moving and complex warehouses are always looking for ways to streamline the processes of their warehouses through the use of technology (Murray). The picking and packing processes in a warehouse are the most time consuming and costliest processes in a warehouse in terms of labor, accounting for about 50% of the total labor costs (How). Those two activities, because of their heavy labor costs, are prime areas for a company to improve efficiencies and reduce costs as much as possible. One way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Evolution Of The English Language In The 18th Century In order to be successful, humans must constantly adapt to the perpetually changing world. This evolution is evident in anything from a slight change in linguistics, to a major change in social order. Language and style were changing notions of the world and of God s design in creating it. Habits of thought that had prevailed during the medieval period now seemed to be incompatible with knowledge derived from the experience of nature. ( Nature and Change 646). One way to examine the changes in society that have transpired, is by analyzing literature. Authors of the middle ages, the early modern period, and the restoration and 18th century translate the discrepancies of english linguistics, religion, thematics, and views on women in their literature. The English language is a complex form of communication that is constantly changing and adapting throughout time. A major aspect that distinguishes Middle English from Modern English is called the Great Vowel Shift. This shift was a progressive change, throughout multiple centuries, in pronunciation that resulted in the long vowel sounds being made higher and further forward in the mouth ( Great Vowel Shift ). Geoffrey Chaucer, of the Middle Ages, may be used as an example of this shift. In his literature, a word such as lyf was pronounced as leef and later became the modern word life. During the modern period many new words, between 1500 and 1650, were added to the language ( The English Renaissance ). Despite the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Folate As A Water Soluble B Vitamin Folate Folate is a water soluble B vitamin that is found in a wide variety of foods such as vegetables (asparagus and spinach), lentils, dry beans, fruits and whole grain cereals.6 Apart from its traditional name, folate is also referred to by its many physiologic forms, folic acid, folinic acid (leukovorin) or 5 methyltetrahydrofolate (5 MTHF).20 Once absorbed through the small intestines (specifically jejunum), folate undergoes several activation reactions within the liver leading to various different biologically active forms. Adults often present with symptoms of macrocytic or megaloblastic anemia and increased levels of the amino acid homocystein, which can be potentially neurotoxic.20 Several studies have also linked folate deficiency to increased risk for developing cognitive deficits and depression.20 Folate deficiency has several different causes. Most apparent among these is inadequate dietary intake of B vitamins.20 Several drugs that can lead to folate deficiency are oral contraceptives, antibiotics, anticonvulsants, antacids and alcohol. Also, patients with cancer often experience rapid depletion of stores due to overactive cellular proliferation.20 Other prominent causes can include malabsorption through the jejunum due to inborn errors of metabolism, bacterial overgrowth or intestinal inflammatory conditions (e.g., Atrophic Gastritis, IBD).
