Polo Ralph Lauren Research Paper
Following my research and analysis of each of the sources I collect, I gained that the price of luxury
cannot be overemphasized. As I mentioned previously, the goal of my research was to determine if
Polo Ralph Lauren has made effective efforts to ameliorate the abuse of their sweatshop workers in
destitute factories. Although this inquiry remains of significant concern to me, it is naive notion to a
certain extent because I have found that the company intentionally ignores the issue. Throughout my
research I have learned that the welfare of their sweatshop workers is of no concern to the autarchs of
the illustrious Polo Ralph Lauren. The execrable acts of exploitation throughout their associated
sweatshops coupled with the loyalty of ignorant

Compare The Dream Of The Rood And The Bible
The Dream of the Rood vs. The Bible The Bible has been translated into 451 languages, sold over 6
billion times, and depicted in over 40 movies. The Bible and the crucifixion of the Messiah are
prominent aspects in cultures all around the world today. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus
Christ has been translated, dramatized, televised, adapted, and cartooned. In The Dream of the Rood,
translated by R.M. Liuzza, the Biblical cross comes to life to tell its own version of Christ s death and
resurrection. The author recreated the Biblical account to appeal to the Anglo Saxon warrior group to
effectively convert them. However, the story from the cross s perspective matches the crucial material
of the Biblical account of the crucifixion without defaming Christ. The main variations between the
Biblical account and the poem consist of additions to effectively convert the pagan warriors. Christ
himself is depicted as a warrior: Christ ascended on the high gallows, / brave in the sight of many,
when he wanted to / ransom mankind (39 41). In this image, Christ appears eager to die for the world
s sins, which is contradictory to the Biblical account (introduction). The Bible describes Jesus as
distressed and records him, saying, Abba, Father, . . . everything is possible for you. Take this cup
from me (Mark 14:33,36). Jesus has no desire to go to the cross and suffer, but the poem likens him to
one of the warriors listening to the tale. Changing Christ s demeanor

How Did The Industrial Revolution Improve American Society
Kamryn Melton
History
Exam Question 2
Since the beginning of time, the human society has been through many changes. One of the greatest
changes was the Industrial Revolution of Great Brittan. Although there were many discontent, the
positive outcomes outweighed the negative effects. The revolution improved Great Britain primarily
through innovation and invention of new technologies, improving communication and transportation,
and the lives of Britain people in the industrial society.
During the period of the Industrial Revolution, Great Britain saw great and fast change. Many new
inventions and innovations vigorously improved the economic sate of Britain and the lives of the
people. The inventions of the flying shuttle, spinning jenny, the water frame, and the spinning mule
sparked what is known as the textile industry. These inventions increased the speed and quality of
spinning and weaving. This also made it more efficient and required less human labor. As a result of
not needing much human labor people resorted to cities in search for jobs, thus leading to factories.
The factories became center or the power house of the industrial revolution. New machinery was
introduced allowing cheaper labor and mass production at a lower cost. This new way of creating
manufactured goods increased the economy of Britain exponentially. People were very pleased by the
increase of Britain s economy. Britain was also big on coal. Coal made it simpler and cheaper to melt
iron . This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the revolution Britain was never a powerful nation, it stayed the same for centuries. The series
of inventions and innovations transformed Great Britain into the most powerful and economic nation
in Europe. The Industrial Revolution provided greater inventions and renewable resources which

event, it created a vision for a brighter

Character Analysis Of August Osage County
August: Osage County is a well acted play that is generally about a family that falls apart. That is
something that almost everybody has in common. This play could very well be realistic according to
the situations that were being displayed, dialogue being used and the setting of the play. The play
speaks about real people in everyday situations, dealing with common problems that almost
everybody s family has once had to deal with such as suicide, divorce, children growing up faster than
expected and much more. These types of situations go on in our everyday lives. Also, within this play
it presents an everyday conversation in a succinct, direct way. The dialogue hits with full force within
the context of the play and the drama plays out between the characters. Additionally, the most realistic
factor in the play was the set design. The setting is in a large county home outside of Pawhuska,
Oklahoma which reflects the society and culture in which people live. The set design fitting in with
the play being almost a three story home with a kitchen, dining room, Violet s room door and an attic.
This everyday setting helped contribute to the power of the play, making it easier for the audience to
be able to understand and relate to. Watching the August: Osage County play wasn t as interesting as
the script itself, but it was many aspects in the play that kept my attention. Pertaining to acting, Violet
s character was played to perfection. With her character being sixty three

Negative Events Of The 1980s
Although the 1980s was a wonderful decade, there were some negative events. The 1980s contained
many assassinations, such as John Lennon, Anwar Sadat, Marvin Gaye, Indira Gandhi, and Olof
Palme
John Lennon, an English musician, was a member of the legendary rock band, the Beatles. Mark
David Chapman assassinated him at only forty years old. He shot two bullets in the left side of Lennon
s back and another two bullets in his left shoulder with a Charter Arms .38 caliber pistol. He was
declared dead when he arrived at Roosevelt Hospital. The murder took place in the archway of The
Dakota in New York, New York on December 8,1980. On December 10, 1980 he was cremated at the

Stereotypes In American Dad
American Dad is an animated sitcom, created for adults, and originally aired on Fox before being
picked up by the TV channel, TBS. The creators include Seth McFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt
Weitzman. It is an animated show centered on the Smiths, who live in Langley Falls in Northern
Virginia with their unusual family, which includes an alien named Roger. This show has been on the
air since 2005, and is about to premiere its thirteenth season. Since there are so many seasons, and so
many episodes, I chose to focus on one episode from their first season, entitled Not Particularly
Desperate Housewives. Hidden beneath obvious stereotypes, there are ideas of power, as well as
patriarchal norms and male gaze theory. Also touched upon is the self identity, ... Show more content

Men will identify with Stan, because as a hyper masculinized person, he represents how a
stereotypical male should be. This is also in line with narcissistic voyeurism, because as a man, one
might identify with the primary character, because one sees oneself in Stan s character. Stan is
portrayed as a competitive, goal oriented, authoritative and active male which matched Mulvey s
description of how masculinity is recognized. Since this is very evident in the show, it also points to
patriarchal norms which show Stan as the leader of the household while Francine is always waiting
around to serve him. In one example in this episode, the family is sitting down to dinner. Since it is
Wednesday, it was meant to be leftover night. However, Francine wanted to switch it up and made
lasagna instead. Stan gets very angry and declares that there will be no dinner that evening because it
was leftover night, not lasagna night. This drives Francine to have to follow her husband s instructions
instead of doing things for herself. It portrayed Stan as in charge of the family, and showed that what
the dominant male wanted was what the dominant male, as well as everyone else, was going to get.
These patriarchal norms are exactly what Francine is trying to escape from when she tries to join the
Ladybugs. However, the episode resolves without ever talking about how Stan is always in control,
and instead they go back to the way it was before: with Stan as the leader of the family and everyone
else submits to

Dorothy Parker s Waltz
The Waltz by Dorothy Parker, published in 1933 in the New Yorker, is a short story about a female
protagonist who describes her dance with a man through an internal monologue, interrupted by her
direct speech to her dance partner. The story broaches the issues of the female s social position
towards men and how they are conformed to society s conventions. While her thoughts reveal in a
cynical tone how disgusted and dismissive she feels about the waltz with the man, her external speech
expresses the wish to continue dancing. This paper will analyze the narrator s voices and on the one
hand, point out her position to her dance partner. On the other hand, it will critically view the
representation of the dance in reference to her living condition ... Show more content on

[...] I ve been locked in this noxious embrace for the thirty five years this waltz has lasted. (Parker 50)
Not only does the protagonist express her feelings towards the man but she also reveals what the waltz
actually stands for in her narration. She feels to be trapped in her position as a wife and dancing
partner. The man she dances with is her putative husband and the waltz they are dancing is a symbol
for their marriage. Scared that this relationship will be going on like this , she wonder[s] why she didn
t tell him [she] was tired . This statement shows resignation and exhaustion because she cannot be
honest and stand up for herself as a married woman. Moreover, she does not feel any vivid emotions
anymore next to her husband, is [...] past all feelings now (Parker 51) and remembers melancholy the
days she was happily unmarried and lived an easy, peaceful time . She imagines further that the music
would almost stop, so she knows it is rather unrealistic for them to stop dancing and, hence, meaning
to be split up. She does not seem to have any confidence for progress to happen in the future. The
reason for her hopeless situation is that women [...are not] considered free and equal [...] (Sapiro 58),

The Legacy of Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan is to this date the oldest serving president, and the effects of his presidency have
affected not only the United States of America but most of the world as well. The consensus among
historians is that Ronald Reagan left a lasting legacy that was a great one in numerous ways. His
Reaganomics improved America s economy greatly, and secured its future economic prosperity. He
also fought communism head on and was able to end it in most parts of the world, but more
importantly in Soviet Russia. However, in doing so he got wrapped up in the Iran Contra Affair, which
will forever be tied to his name in a negative regard. Within America, Reagan was able to improve
society such as his success in curbing the use of illegal drugs. ... Show more content on

The Iran Contra Affair will almost always be discussed in a conversation about Ronald Reagan s
legacy, and it will usually be used against him negatively.
Ronald Reagan was not only a master of foreign policy, but was also skillful with his domestic policy
as well, such as his handling of illegal drug use within the United States. Reagan began his
administration s war on drugs in October 1982 (Glass). On that date he declared that illegal drugs and
their production and transportation were hurting America (Glass). From then on, he made it clear that
his administration would act against illegal drugs, and would do what it could to stop their influence.
Congress, Reagan s Vice President George H.W. Bush, and even his wife all put forth great
contributions to the fight against illegal drugs. Ronald Reagan began to take action of his own in
September 1986 when he helped to put forth and effectively pass Executive Order 12564 (Drug Free
Federal Workplace). The order was intended to create a drug free work environment for every worker
in America, and made it the law to not use drugs while at a workplace (Drug Free Federal Workplace).
Also, he signed the Anti Drug Abuse Act of 1988 into law (Anti Drug Abuse Act). The Anti Drug
Abuse Act created different types of minor and major penalties for drug offenses, and also created the

Heuristic Thinking Is The Refined Mental Process People...
Heuristic thinking is the refined mental process people use when faced with an alternative. Such
decisions are typically made quickly and unconsciously. Quickly making a decision without thinking
through every detail can be advantageous but it can lead to biases and inconsistencies. There are four
common biases caused by heuristics; relative comparisons, availability, representativeness, and
affective. The first bias, relative comparison, is when people criticize based off of correlation or
affiliation. Strictly speaking, a person will form their conclusion around comparing their condition to
the similar conditions of others. Relative correlation is constructed of a system of anchors and
framing. Anchoring is when a person takes easily accessible information and reasonably bases their
decision within the parameters of that information. People will tend to base their answers depending
on how the question was constructed. For example, if someone was asked whether the US population
was above or below a hundred million, they would more than likely give a smaller population size
then if they were asked if the population of the US was above or below seven hundred million.
Framing is when a person bases their decision on either the loss or gain to be held from a possible
outcome of a decision. As such, person is typically more concerned about repercussions rather than the
actually benefits of a decision. Second is availability heuristic, which is basing a decision off of

The Parable Of The Good Samaritan In Honduras
Back in 2003, while a missionary in Honduras, I came across a gentleman in a small village in central
Honduras who, from my point of view, was poor, out of work and had a need the size of Texas with a
family that almost matched the population of Texas. At the time, and being new in the mission field,
all I could do was to compare him to my standard of living. I had nothing else to go on. My immediate
reaction was to help him. I thought to myself, I am going to offer this man a job and help him come
out of his plight. I knew that I could not just give him what he needed because of what I had learned in
the past. As the old proverb goes, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish

This is very good! But He goes beyond it and provides permanency through His resurrection, without
which, we could not have eternal life. This is even better! However, the another application of His
love for us is in the restoring quality we receive through Sonship. This is His utmost and supremely
His best! Sonship is the standard and end goal for our Lord in his pursuit of us and so it should be the

Mother Tongue By Joan Didion
Title Three essays depict three different attributes; personal opinion, perception, and attitude, although
they are based on variation and in state of mind. Amy Tan in Mother Tongue talks about the forms of
the English language. She says, variation in languages creates many obstacles in ordered to be
socialized and cared among people. Joan Didion in On Morality explores her perception that we don t

his mind wins because he wants to grow up his self respect among the Indians during his service

themselves as to what moral decision one would make in situations like she describes, of a dead body

Comparing Stereotypes In Elle Magazine And TH Bold
The two ads I chose were Live Irrésistible, a perfume by Givenchy from Elle magazine and TH Bold,
a cologne by Tommy Hilfiger from Men s Health magazine. According to Susan Bordo, in all most all
ads men act and women appear and these two ads represents just that. Elle is a magazine for women

magazine targets men between the ages 18 30, who have an interest in their health and sex lives.
Furthermore, I believe both ads have stories to tell. In the first ad for a perfume by Givenchy, we see a
beautiful blonde woman who s enjoying a beautiful day out on a rooftop balcony just relaxing. In the
second ad for a cologne by Tommy Hilfiger, we see a well fit men enjoying a beautiful day doing a

Analysis Of Theater Of The Oppressed By Augusto Boal
In Theater of the Oppressed , Augusto Boal argues that theater is inherently political and that
traditional, Aristotelian theater is inherently oppressive. He reviews the history of theater, from
Aristotle through Machiavelli, Hegel, and Brecht, and proposes a new idea of theater that breaks the
bounds between audience and performers, and between chorus and protagonist. In the Introduction ,
Boal introduces his main proposition, that theater is inherently political. He presents conflicting
classical ideas of whether the theater is merely entertainment or is fundamentally political. Aristotle
argued that theater and poetry are independent of politics, and Boal seeks to show that Aristotelian
theater is a political tool that represses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Boal, Aristotle s tragic hero has one flaw, a characteristic that is antisocial or rebellious.
The audience empathizes with this trait, and the virtuous character. When the flaw leads the character
to tragedy, the audience pities the character and fears for themselves, who share this trait. Through the
character s downfall, the trait is suppressed in the audience.
How does Art imitate Nature? Well Aristotle seems to think that Art imitates nature means that Art
recreates the creative principle of created things. Not in the sense that it mimics things in the world,
but that it re cerates nature. In this sense, art utilizes the creative principal of created things. Artistic
items are not exact reproductions, but contain much of the same tenets as the original so as to impart
knowledge and understanding about that item. Boal describes ideas of the thinkers of Aristotle s time
and how Aristotle may have developed this point of view. Boal concludes this sub section of section
one with the idea of knowledge and how it is presented. He suggests that through dialectics and the
debate of ideas knowledge ascends. Boal further depicts how Aristotle may have reconciled his
position on the arts and society with that of his contemporaries. He introduced new concepts in the
perception that substance is the enduring unity of matter and form. In tragedy (Aristotle s
characterization for theater),

of testing. Tests are based on coverage of code statements, branches, paths, conditions. 3. Unit testing
Testing of individual software components or modules. Typically done by the programmer and not by
testers, as it requires detailed knowledge of the internal program design and code. May require
developing test driver modules or test harnesses. 4. Incremental integration testing Bottom up
approach for testing i.e continuous testing of an application as new functionality is added; Application
functionality and modules should be independent enough to test separately done by programmers or
by testers. 5. Integration testing Testing of integrated modules to verify combined functionality after
integration. Modules are typically code modules, individual applications, client and server
applications on a network, etc. This type of testing is especially relevant to client/server and
distributed systems. 6. Functional testing This type of testing ignores the internal parts and focus on
the output is as per requirement or not. Black box type testing geared to functional requirements of an

attack. The other dog would strike. But the bullpup would stand it s ground.
But probably his most famous was his frog. Upon a slight hit, the frog would jump, and I quote,
Whirling in the air like a doughnut . (P.579) The frog was named Dan l Webster. Another story was
when Jim Smiley put Dan l on the floor and said, Flies, Dan l, flies! (P.579) and Dan l would leap off
the ground and catch a fly on the counter and land right back down.
The most famous story about Smiley and his frog was when Dan l didn t jump. One day, a stranger
came to town. He questioned what was in a box Smiley was carrying. It was the frog, Dan l Webster.
He didn t think the frog was anything special, so Smiley decided to prove the stranger wrong. He went
to the swap and caught another frog then quickly returned to the stranger. They bet $40 dollars and
started the race. The new frog jumped away immediately but Dan l Webster didn t move at all. The
Stranger walked away with the cash. When Smiley investigated Dan l, there was a huge amount of
quail shot. Smiley gave chase after the stranger but he could not find

For instance, Dell chose to distribute straight to the company with great success and cost savings and
then later changed their plan to include selling through Wal Mart when the time called for it. Gateway
however, decided to open their own stores but didn t sell their product from it. This led to the failure
of Gateway. Poor distribution network designs can hurt customer satisfaction and increase costs
hurting the profitability of the company. Two factors need to be considered when designing a
distribution network; customer needs to be met and the cost of meeting customer needs. When
thinking of customer needs it s important to consider what the distribution directly influences, which
is response time, product variety, product availability, and customer experience, time to market, order
visibility and return ability. Things that affect the cost of the distribution design are inventories,
transportation, facilities and handling, information, sourcing and pricing. As the number of facilities
increases, the inventory costs increase. It s important to decrease the number of facilities not only to
save on inventory costs but also to cut down on facility costs. For transportation you have inbound and
outbound with outbound being the bigger cost. Creating economies of scale in transportation is a great
way to reduce costs. There are six design options for the distribution network which include
manufacturer storage with direct

Determining the Effect of Temperature on a Chemical Reaction In the experiment, my partner and I
will be conducting small tests multiple times to determine what effect temperature of a solution can
have of the speed of a reaction. Heating up sodium thiosulphate in a water bath will alter the
temperature of the solution. The sodium thiosulphate will then be added to room temperature

Evolution Of Baseball Research Paper
The Baseball World Filled with Money
Baseball has been part of American history for well over 150 years now. It is considered to be America
s pastime, meaning it is what people loved to do in their off time back in the late 1800s and early
1900s. Baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York in 1839. Back then
baseball was much different than today. Different rules, balls, and equipment than in today s age. As
baseball developed things changed such as the rules and equipment. Better equipment was put into
place to help enhance the performance of the ball players. Baseball has become a sport of scouting.

Billy was praised for finding these players that were all pulling in the same direction. Not one player

winning, winning the World Series. Billy lived by this quote, The problem, wrote James, is that
baseball statistics are not pure accomplishments of men against other men, which is what we are in the
habit of seeing them as. They are accomplishments of men in combination with their circumstances
(Lewis 71). Billy just did not focus on the stats rather he also focused on what the player actually
accomplished throughout their years of playing baseball. This is what made him one of the best
general managers in the league at the time. After the A s did not make it past the first round of the
playoffs all of the criticism waiting for the Billy to fail for the first time started to pour in. Billy simply

Stress And Its Effects On Health
Introduction
Stress is one of the most common and well known risk factors trivializing one s health. Given how fast
paced modern life is, this makes stress unavoidable. Stress is a negative emotional response, which is
accompanied by biological, physiological, psychological, and emotional changes in the body.
Stress causes sympathetic activation of the hypothalamus which then acts on the adrenal cortex and
releases the hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These two hormones create what is known as the fight
or flight response. This response causes many bodily changes, which would normally be needed to
deal with emergency situations. Therefore, chronic long term stress over a significant period of time
can really drain the body and can be deleterious to one s health. Stressors can exploit a person s
physiological systems and be detrimental to their health. Thus, it is important for people to develop
ways to cope with stress in an appropriate manner and manage the demands of situations that are
considered stressful.
Yoga is an excellent example of a coping mechanism used to reduce the aversive effects of health.
Yoga helps stimulates both the mind and the body in order to achieve a relaxed and positive emotional
state, which in turn leads to better mental and physical health. Yoga helps improve the balance of the
mind and body by incorporating several relaxation techniques such as stretching, visualizing, and
controlled breathing. This ultimately puts a person in serenity and

Narrative Essay On The Titanic
While the car drives down on the cobblestone street toward the dock, I slowly sip the Pu er tea trying
to refrain myself from spitting it out onto Angeline s cerulean dress. I eye it with disdain, muttering to
myself of the many times I reminded her that jewel tones did not suit her skin tone. What happened to
the dresses that I picked out for you at Poiret s boutique yesterday? Blue makes your skin look washed
out, you know that Angeline, I scold. Accidentally ripped it, my sister replies, giving a dismissive
shrug and turns around. I glare at her back, wondering how she could only be a year younger than me
when she acted like a child. The Isotta Fraschini rolls to a stop, and I glance around taking in my
surroundings as our chauffeur helps me out. Other noblemen and debutantes step out from their
vehicles while the lower classes are giddy with the joy of having the chance to travel on such a grand
ship. Everywhere around me are people either embracing their loved ones to say farewell and shouting
bon voyage to their companion on the decks. The Titanic looms beyond the rails and I take in a breath.
It is truly magnificent, Father wasn t kidding when he said it was the ship of dreams. Being the

Podcasts And Content Marketing Essay
Content marketing began as a simple concept; one simply wrote blogs and articles related to specific
products and/or services and promoted them; however, content creation in 2018 has come full circle.
Businesses today have tried to keep up with content trends and have used different tools to promote
content in 2018.
Podcasts and Content Marketing
One of these content trends is the use of podcasts. Keep in mind that podcasting has been used by
many professions for quite some time now but its use in content marketing is relatively new.
Podcasting is fast catching. Approximately 40% people in the US listen to at least one podcast on a

Format: Set up your basic show format. There is no right or wrong way to set up a podcast. The
important thing is that you feel comfortable with the entire idea, flow, and format. Some podcasters
ask questions from the listeners, others only provide a running commentary, and yet others wait until
the end to answer questions. However, for effective content creation in 2018, it might be a good idea
to interview an expert who answers relevant questions. This way you can provide your audience with a
more credible source and you also don t have to answer every question that your audience may ask.
Length: Remember, a podcast should not go on forever. Most people keep it for 45 60 minutes. This
seems like an appropriate length because anything longer than this could bore your listeners and force
them to sign off.
Engaging the listeners: One of the most critical elements of a podcast is that it should have content
that is both engaging and interesting for the audience. An effective way to do so is by picking up
trending topics, invite guests and experts and keep the flow of information smooth and relevant. Your
audience wants to learn something and they want to derive information from your podcast. You need
to make sure you are able to provide the information. Therefore, your best content advice in 2018 is

Alibaba- Corporate Advantage and Competiton
How does Alibaba group create corporate advantage? (Why are the businesses under one roof?) Is this
corporate advantage sustainable?
Is the current degree of competition amongst the business units appropriate? Do you think Jack Ma
should encourage more cooperation? If so how?
The Alibaba group has thrived in the Chinese e commerce sector from its inception in 1998. They
currently account for over 70% of online shopping in China and delivered annual revenues of $636
million in the 12month period ending June 2009 (case p1 2). Alibaba s successes are due to multiple
factors that have allowed them to create corporate advantage, and thus establish market leadership in

Ma has created corporate advantage through championing internal competition between subsidiaries,
which although report directly to himself, are run as separate business units under the Alibaba Group.
Ma provides each subsidiary with its own board of directors, operating managers and executive team
to encourage competition (case p.7). Executives are rewarded through business autonomy, in
conjunction employees are incentivised through stock options linked to group performance (case p.9).
The principal way in which Alibaba Group s organisational structure creates corporate advantage is
the flexibility gained from its decentralised nature. Paired with this structure, Alibaba s shared value of
embrace change puts emphasis on innovative and adaptive practice (exhibit 11 case). This notion is
best explained by CFO Joseph Tsai who stated We sacrificed forced synergies in order to quickly
pursue subsidiary opportunities (case p.9). Alipay provides a prime example of the strength of Alibaba
s decentralised structure. Launched in 2004 as part of Taobao, Alipay held consumer s payments until
purchased goods were received, thus eliminating settlement risk. Initially incubated, Alipay became
fundamental to Taobao s growth and soon reached critical mass, this presented opportunities beyond
the internal organisation leading to Ma s decision to separate Alipay from Taobao as an independent

RURAL POVERTY ALLEVIATION IN Nigeria

phrase. Efforts will therefore be made to clearly describe/define the following words; Rural, Poverty,
and Alleviation.
WHAT IS RURAL?
To define what is rural is daunting task, because the word rural is an inexact term that can mean
different thing to different people. For example, what is considered rural in a place like United States
of America and United Kingdom may not resemble what is considered rural in a place like Nigeria and
other West Africa countries. However, for the purpose of this paper efforts will be made to describe
the word Rural and the general Characteristics of rural areas.

While advances are made in the area of communications and information technology and substantial
growth recorded in this sector, but sadly no parallel investment was made by both the government and
the private investors on poverty alleviation. The aforementioned and those outlined below are some of
the factors contributing to the rural poverty in Nigeria.
Neglect of agriculture:
Before the discovery of oil in Nigeria, agriculture used to be the main sources of revenue and foreign
exchange earning for government but regrettably this has been neglected. And since this is the major
occupation of the rural people, their income has been the decline ever since.
Neglect of infrastructure:
There has been a deliberate neglect of infrastructure facilities in the rural areas. Basic amenities such
as road network, piped water, primarily health care centers, electricity, schools etc are all contributing
factors to the rural poverty.
Lack of poverty programme coordination:
Various levels of government are claiming to be doing one thing or the other to reduce the suffering of
the rural dwellers; the Federal, the State, and the Local government, but lack of proper coordination of
their programmes make the impact not be felt by the rural community.
Lack of government commitment:

What Is Socrates Argument For The Soul s Immortality
On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and
philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife.
During his final conversation preceding his passing, Socrates presents four arguments for the soul s
immortality and suggests that each genuine philosopher should not be fearful of death, but should
instead look forward to it. While I agree with Socrates on the premise that the soul is immortal, I do
not feel that any of his arguments are sufficient enough to prove this belief to be true. Plato s Phaedo
allegedly recounts these events and departing conversations with Socrates. Socrates first argument
regarding the soul s immortality focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created
came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he
poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his
final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that
Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in
totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the
transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this
reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new
knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments.
It seems that he has ran out of justifications for his beliefs, so he finalizes with his main point all along
instead of presenting a new argument. I applaud Socrates for this, as he wants his peers to realize that
he believes his soul will live on and that is all that should matter for him on the day of his death. For
this reason, I do not have any negative things to say, other than it not being obligatory, about Socrates

Robert Agnew s General Strain Theory
Prison gangs, not much unlike street gangs; a social entity devised to bring a sense of belonging, a
sense of brotherhood. Prison gangs are found all over the world, consisting mostly of males with the
majority of prison gangs made up of Caucasians. Although, the Latino gang population is steadily
increasing. To help us understand prison gangs, we take a look at Robert Agnew s theory called
General Strain theory, in which an individual commits a crime or violence based off of 3 main
sources: 1), an individual is stopped from reaching a goal, 2), something an individual possesses or
valued is removed or threatened, 3), or something negative or unwanted is imposed on an individual
(Alvarez Bachman, 2017). Using this theory, we will dive in to understanding what has helped the

The first known American prison gang was the Gypsy Jokers formed in the 1950s in Washington state
prisons (Fleisher Decker, 2001). These gangs have gained national attention for their violence, drug
activity, rape and even murder. Membership is derived from either past association with current gang
members or by general acceptance of current gang values (CJ institute, 1985). With the Aryan
brotherhood, specifically, the members are inducted in through the murder of another individual.
These gangs may have dues, which could be in the form of money, protection, drugs or even sexual
favors. Ultimately, these gangs thrive on secrecy and loyalty. Leaders are noticeably different from
their followers. They may be older, physically stronger or larger, they commission acts of violence and
their leadership qualities elevate a member through the gang hierarchy (CJ institute,

Antigone Research Paper
Throughout history justice has been seen as many things depending on your culture, and moral beliefs
among these include, reparations, atonement, vengeance. As humans when we have been disrespected,
we often seek one of these to fix the wrong doings. While some are more morally accepted such as
reparations, and atonement, others like vengeance have gained negative connotation. Sometimes this
vengeance come more in a form of karma in which the people who have been wrong seek to do the
same or worse to those who have disrespected them. This is the case in Sophocles play, Antigone and
the story plot for one of Criminal Minds episode, getting karma for disrespecting someone, or more
specifically a higher power. In today s society while not as extreme people often seek for ... Show

For example he portrayed justice as being a karma sort of framework, where if you did something bad
you would get something done in return. This is especially true in his play, Antigone in which after
two brothers fight for the crown both of them end up dead. The new king, Creon, only gives a proper
burial to one of the brothers. Antigone feels betrayed and goes back to retrieve her other brothers
body, but when the king finds out she did this he tries to kill her. He does end up pardoning her death
after an oracle warns him of his future but he still decides to lock her in tomb for her to starve herself.
As revenge Antigone hangs herself to not suffer a long death, and when her fiance, Creon s son, finds
this out he too kills himself, and when his mom finds this out she too kills herself as well. This turns
out being the gods version of justice to the king for disobeying the orders of not giving the brother
proper burial and killing Antigone orders. The kings ego led him to believe he was higher than the god
s rules and wants so the god s decide to take away the thing he loves most, his family as

Students will read a leveled non fiction book on cells from the Science A Z website (Fridell, n.d.) in
small groups of students who have similar reading abilities. Observations will be made as to how
students work in leveled groups and students will take a quiz as an exit ticket which will be collected
to provide data (see Appendix D). A PowerPoint presentation (see Appendix E) will be shown and
students will take guided notes to build on their understanding of cells. To gauge their learning so far,
students will take a formative assessment called Four More (see Appendix F). Student work samples

SMART Port Security
The SMART Port Security is a legislation that created new layers of security in U.S. ports in a cost
effective manner. The legislation emphasizes the need of creating strong partnership among federal,
state, and local governments as well as with private and international organizations (Homeland
security committee, 2012). The goal is to ensure that security efforts at all levels are effectively
coordinated and integrated so that there can be more layers of security without having to invest
additional resources. This is accomplished by identifying redundancies or repetitive security measures
that are useless, which will allow port authorities to convert them into more useful security layers
(Homeland security committee, 2012). Moreover, the legislation also encourages the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) to speed up the process of installing biometric readers to make the
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program worth it and not just a waste of
resources (Wytkind, 2012).

The SVSS faces two main challenges, the first one is that the maritime domain is very extensive and it
would be impossible to keep it secured. The second challenge is that the recreational boating
community expects to have plenty of freedom while they are in the maritime domain. One way in
which the SVSS seeks to overcome these challenges is by creating strong partnerships with the small
vessel community and educating them about how to identify and report suspicious activity to America

Roone Arledge s Monday Night Football
During the fall, regardless of who is playing, Monday Night Football is my favorite time of the week.
My roommates and I order a pizza, have a few beers, and listen to Jon Gruden and Mike Tirico s
commentary. Monday Night Football is great because it is something that enables my roommates and I
to get through Mondays. ESPN is also a program that is always on in my house. It s usually being
played in the background but when live sporting events are being broadcasted, my roommates and I
can usually be found watching it. When trying to figure out what to write about in regard to this paper,
I decided that I would be very interested in expounding upon the man most responsible for the
creation of Monday Night Football and ESPN. Without Roone Arledge, ... Show more content on

Instead of the traditional two man broadcasting team , Davies says, Arledge decided to put three men
in the booth (Davies, 2012). Together the three man team of Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, and Frank
Gifford brought contrasting styles and personalities (Davies, 2012) to the broadcast booth. The
contrasting styles of Meredith and Cosell especially delighted viewers because of their off kilter banter
and one upmanship. Cosell was especially electrifying because he was not afraid to speak his mind
and criticize players for mistakes and poor decisions. The combination of Arledge s innovations and
the commentary from the broadcast booth led to Monday Night Football becoming a national
institution and one of the most profitable and longest running programs in television history (Davies,

  • 3. Compare The Dream Of The Rood And The Bible The Dream of the Rood vs. The Bible The Bible has been translated into 451 languages, sold over 6 billion times, and depicted in over 40 movies. The Bible and the crucifixion of the Messiah are prominent aspects in cultures all around the world today. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ has been translated, dramatized, televised, adapted, and cartooned. In The Dream of the Rood, translated by R.M. Liuzza, the Biblical cross comes to life to tell its own version of Christ s death and resurrection. The author recreated the Biblical account to appeal to the Anglo Saxon warrior group to effectively convert them. However, the story from the cross s perspective matches the crucial material of the Biblical account of the crucifixion without defaming Christ. The main variations between the Biblical account and the poem consist of additions to effectively convert the pagan warriors. Christ himself is depicted as a warrior: Christ ascended on the high gallows, / brave in the sight of many, when he wanted to / ransom mankind (39 41). In this image, Christ appears eager to die for the world s sins, which is contradictory to the Biblical account (introduction). The Bible describes Jesus as distressed and records him, saying, Abba, Father, . . . everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me (Mark 14:33,36). Jesus has no desire to go to the cross and suffer, but the poem likens him to one of the warriors listening to the tale. Changing Christ s demeanor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Character Analysis Of August Osage County August: Osage County is a well acted play that is generally about a family that falls apart. That is something that almost everybody has in common. This play could very well be realistic according to the situations that were being displayed, dialogue being used and the setting of the play. The play speaks about real people in everyday situations, dealing with common problems that almost everybody s family has once had to deal with such as suicide, divorce, children growing up faster than expected and much more. These types of situations go on in our everyday lives. Also, within this play it presents an everyday conversation in a succinct, direct way. The dialogue hits with full force within the context of the play and the drama plays out between the characters. Additionally, the most realistic factor in the play was the set design. The setting is in a large county home outside of Pawhuska, Oklahoma which reflects the society and culture in which people live. The set design fitting in with the play being almost a three story home with a kitchen, dining room, Violet s room door and an attic. This everyday setting helped contribute to the power of the play, making it easier for the audience to be able to understand and relate to. The creators include Seth McFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman. It is an animated show centered on the Smiths, who live in Langley Falls in Northern Virginia with their unusual family, which includes an alien named Roger. This show has been on the air since 2005, and is about to premiere its thirteenth season. Men will identify with Stan, because as a hyper masculinized person, he represents how a stereotypical male should be. This is also in line with narcissistic voyeurism, because as a man, one might identify with the primary character, because one sees oneself in Stan s character. Stan is portrayed as a competitive, goal oriented, authoritative and active male which matched Mulvey s description of how masculinity is recognized. Since this is very evident in the show, it also points to patriarchal norms which show Stan as the leader of the household while Francine is always waiting around to serve him. In one example in this episode, the family is sitting down to dinner. Since it is Wednesday, it was meant to be leftover night. However, Francine wanted to switch it up and made lasagna instead. Stan gets very angry and declares that there will be no dinner that evening because it was leftover night, not lasagna night. This drives Francine to have to follow her husband s instructions instead of doing things for herself. It portrayed Stan as in charge of the family, and showed that what the dominant male wanted was what the dominant male, as well as everyone else, was going to get. These patriarchal norms are exactly what Francine is trying to escape from when she tries to join the Ladybugs. However, the episode resolves without ever talking about how Stan is always in control, and instead they go back to the way it was before: with Stan as the leader of the family and everyone else submits to ... While her thoughts reveal in a cynical tone how disgusted and dismissive she feels about the waltz with the man, her external speech expresses the wish to continue dancing. Ronald Reagan was not only a master of foreign policy, but was also skillful with his domestic policy as well, such as his handling of illegal drug use within the United States. Reagan began his administration s war on drugs in October 1982 (Glass). On that date he declared that illegal drugs and their production and transportation were hurting America (Glass). From then on, he made it clear that his administration would act against illegal drugs, and would do what it could to stop their influence. Congress, Reagan s Vice President George H.W. • 14. Heuristic Thinking Is The Refined Mental Process People... Heuristic thinking is the refined mental process people use when faced with an alternative. Such decisions are typically made quickly and unconsciously. Quickly making a decision without thinking through every detail can be advantageous but it can lead to biases and inconsistencies. There are four common biases caused by heuristics; relative comparisons, availability, representativeness, and affective. The first bias, relative comparison, is when people criticize based off of correlation or affiliation. Strictly speaking, a person will form their conclusion around comparing their condition to the similar conditions of others. Relative correlation is constructed of a system of anchors and framing. Anchoring is when a person takes easily accessible information and reasonably bases their decision within the parameters of that information. People will tend to base their answers depending on how the question was constructed. For example, if someone was asked whether the US population was above or below a hundred million, they would more than likely give a smaller population size then if they were asked if the population of the US was above or below seven hundred million. Framing is when a person bases their decision on either the loss or gain to be held from a possible outcome of a decision. As such, person is typically more concerned about repercussions rather than the actually benefits of a decision. Second is availability heuristic, which is basing a decision off of ... The audience empathizes with this trait, and the virtuous character. When the flaw leads the character to tragedy, the audience pities the character and fears for themselves, who share this trait. Through the character s downfall, the trait is suppressed in the audience. How does Art imitate Nature? Well Aristotle seems to think that Art imitates nature means that Art recreates the creative principle of created things. Not in the sense that it mimics things in the world, but that it re cerates nature. In this sense, art utilizes the creative principal of created things. Poor distribution network designs can hurt customer satisfaction and increase costs hurting the profitability of the company. Two factors need to be considered when designing a distribution network; customer needs to be met and the cost of meeting customer needs. When thinking of customer needs it s important to consider what the distribution directly influences, which is response time, product variety, product availability, and customer experience, time to market, order visibility and return ability. Things that affect the cost of the distribution design are inventories, transportation, facilities and handling, information, sourcing and pricing. As the number of facilities increases, the inventory costs increase. It s important to decrease the number of facilities not only to save on inventory costs but also to cut down on facility costs. For transportation you have inbound and outbound with outbound being the bigger cost. Creating economies of scale in transportation is a great way to reduce costs. • 27. Stress And Its Effects On Health Introduction Stress is one of the most common and well known risk factors trivializing one s health. Given how fast paced modern life is, this makes stress unavoidable. Stress is a negative emotional response, which is accompanied by biological, physiological, psychological, and emotional changes in the body. Stress causes sympathetic activation of the hypothalamus which then acts on the adrenal cortex and releases the hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These two hormones create what is known as the fight or flight response. This response causes many bodily changes, which would normally be needed to deal with emergency situations. Therefore, chronic long term stress over a significant period of time can really drain the body and can be deleterious to one s health. Stressors can exploit a person s physiological systems and be detrimental to their health. Thus, it is important for people to develop ways to cope with stress in an appropriate manner and manage the demands of situations that are considered stressful. Yoga is an excellent example of a coping mechanism used to reduce the aversive effects of health. Yoga helps stimulates both the mind and the body in order to achieve a relaxed and positive emotional state, which in turn leads to better mental and physical health. Yoga helps improve the balance of the mind and body by incorporating several relaxation techniques such as stretching, visualizing, and controlled breathing. For example he portrayed justice as being a karma sort of framework, where if you did something bad you would get something done in return. This is especially true in his play, Antigone in which after two brothers fight for the crown both of them end up dead. The new king, Creon, only gives a proper burial to one of the brothers. Antigone feels betrayed and goes back to retrieve her other brothers body, but when the king finds out she did this he tries to kill her. He does end up pardoning her death after an oracle warns him of his future but he still decides to lock her in tomb for her to starve herself. As revenge Antigone hangs herself to not suffer a long death, and when her fiance, Creon s son, finds this out he too kills himself, and when his mom finds this out she too kills herself as well. This turns out being the gods version of justice to the king for disobeying the orders of not giving the brother proper burial and killing Antigone orders. • 43. SMART Port Security The SMART Port Security is a legislation that created new layers of security in U.S. ports in a cost effective manner. The legislation emphasizes the need of creating strong partnership among federal, state, and local governments as well as with private and international organizations (Homeland security committee, 2012). The goal is to ensure that security efforts at all levels are effectively coordinated and integrated so that there can be more layers of security without having to invest additional resources. This is accomplished by identifying redundancies or repetitive security measures that are useless, which will allow port authorities to convert them into more useful security layers (Homeland security committee, 2012). Moreover, the legislation also encourages the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to speed up the process of installing biometric readers to make the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program worth it and not just a waste of resources (Wytkind, 2012). b) The SAFE Port Act. My roommates and I order a pizza, have a few beers, and listen to Jon Gruden and Mike Tirico s commentary. Monday Night Football is great because it is something that enables my roommates and I to get through Mondays. ESPN is also a program that is always on in my house. It s usually being played in the background but when live sporting events are being broadcasted, my roommates and I can usually be found watching it. When trying to figure out what to write about in regard to this paper, I decided that I would be very interested in expounding upon the man most responsible for the creation of Monday Night Football and ESPN. Together the three man team of Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, and Frank Gifford brought contrasting styles and personalities (Davies, 2012) to the broadcast booth. The contrasting styles of Meredith and Cosell especially delighted viewers because of their off kilter banter and one upmanship. Cosell was especially electrifying because he was not afraid to speak his mind and criticize players for mistakes and poor decisions. The combination of Arledge s innovations and the commentary from the broadcast booth led to Monday Night Football becoming a national institution and one of the most profitable and longest running programs in television history (Davies, ...
