Harvard Case Study Analysis
Harvard Case Review and Analysis
1. Jeff Immelt s strategies for GE were solid in a theoretical sense. The company should have been
delivering above average returns and seen all the positives that he preached about it. The reason this
did not happen and they faced some humiliation in 2008 until 2010 were due to GE Capital. Immelt
thought that they were diversified enough to survive the economic downturn. However this proved to
be wrong. In an interview for BusinessWeek magazine David Magee, author of Jeff Immelt and the
New GE Way, spoke on what was going wrong for GE. He believes that Immelt and GE did not
correctly predict how bad the financial downturn was going to be. By missing that their beliefs that
they were diversified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I agree with what the analysts have said and that the most important thing for GE is to get their stock
prices back up. Immelt is trying to do so without selling GE Capital. I believe that in order to get their
prices back up they need to downsize GE Capital and have less money tied up in assets that are in this
very volatile market, especially real estate. This will help build confidence in investors that they will
not see huge losses if the economy takes another turn for the worst. Until that happens I do not see GE
getting back on track with Immelt s plans of growth and profit. 2. GE s corporate strategy is one of
moderate to high level of diversification. More specifically one that is related linked. Most people call
them a conglomerate or a company made up of very different companies all operating in different
industries. However GE s CEO Jeff Immelt sees it differently. He doesn t see a conglomerate he sees a
company that is diversified over many industries, but one that works together towards a common goal.
You can see that in the way that research and development in one of their industries is used to improve
their product or service in a different part of the company. By having all of these differentiated
industries working together under the name of GE they have been very successful company. Now the
situation is changing. People are seeing GE struggle especially GE Capital. To make

Essay about Interior Monologue on Lady Macbeth
First came the pride, an overwhelming sense of achievement, an accomplishment due to great
ambition, but slowly and enduringly surged a world of guilt and confusion, the conscience which I
once thought diminished, began to grow, soon defeating the title and its rewards. Slowly the
unforgotten memories from that merciless night overcame me and I succumbed to the incessant and
horrific images, the bloody dagger, a lifeless corpse. I wash, I scrub, I tear at the flesh on my hands,
trying desperately to cleanse myself of the blood. But the filthy witness remains, stained, never to be
removed.
I believe there are two kinds of people in life; the kind that let things happen and the kind that make
things happen. I prefer to think of myself as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What possessed me? Why did I assume I could play the role of the almighty? Upon hearing news from
my beloved Macbeth of the witches prophecies I found myself overwhelmed by desire, by greed. I
knew that Macbeth, with his pure and noble disposition would never posses the ambition, the drive, to
make the necessary sacrifices in order to fulfil the glory promising prophecies of the imperfect
speakers. And so, I signed my own death warrant, I poured mine spirits into thine ear , I persuaded my
innocent husband to commit a crime which I and not he, deserved to pay the price for.
I am a murderer. Perhaps the crime was not committed by my hands, but it was intended by my mind.
It was my will that worked through Macbeth when he drew the treacherous blade and plunged it into
the heart of the unsuspecting king. I, his other half, his soul mate, the love of his life, taunted him of
being a coward, questioning his reputable manliness, and like a puppet he moved as I pulled the
strings.
I am lost in the turmoil of my own mind, the faithful spirits that tend on mortal thoughts , deserted me
long ago. I repudiated my fundamental social aspect of being a woman and a wife. I did the
unthinkable and gave away my woman hood, my femininity, my tenderness. And what for? To stop

Corporate Law Case Study
Capital Pty Ltd is inquiring into the Commissioner of Tax s notice disallowing the tax deduction for
bad debt. The Commissioner based the argument on the premise that Capital Pty Ltd is a mere
appendage of Eastfield Ltd. This being the case, it is necessary to examine the exact relationship
between Capital Pty Ltd and Eastfield Ltd and determine the likelihood of the courts lifting the
corporate veil.
Separate Entity
Salomon v Salomon amp; Co established the key principle that an incorporated company is a separate
legal entity from its founder, shareholders and directors . To further this point, the Albazero case
provided authority within a group of companies, whereby each company is a separate legal entity with
distinct legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is verified by the fact that all of the profits of Capital were to be distributed to Eastfield through a
dividend payment. Secondly, the subsidiary must be actively conducting the business as appointed by
the parent. Since Capital Pty Ltd was initially set up for the financing needs of Eastfield, and solely
used the workforce of Eastfield, this second criteria is met. Further, since Eastfield decided on a
strategic plan which called for a new corporate structure , essentially supplying the debt finance for
Eastfield, it can be said that Eastfield was the head and brain of this trading venture, thus meeting the
third criteria. Additionally, as Eastfield decided all decisions regarding this capital funding structure,
the 4th agency principle is met; whereby the parent company governs the venture and determining
capital structure. Since Capital earned significant interest income...from the repayment of the various
loans...undertaken by Eastfield it can be established that the parent company, Eastfield, maintained
profits through its own skill and direction towards the subsidiary. Lastly, the parent company must be
in constant and effectual control, which is confirmed by the fact that all the directors of the subsidiary
company, sit on the board of the parent company, thus establishing constant and effective control.
Through the above mentioned, it can be significantly argued that Capital and Eastfield meet all 6
requirements that

The Macondo Blowout in The Gulf of Mexico
Introduction The Gulf of Mexico (GoM) harbors a rich biota with ecological and high commercial
significance (Yanez Arancibia and Day 2004). In this ecosystem, the microorganisms are the primary
consumers and play major role in the biogeochemical cycling of organic matters (Pomeroy 1974). The
GoM ecosystem is often perturbed by natural calamities or human activities affecting the microbial
community structure (Kryachko et al. 2012) and the associated nutrient cycling at all trophic levels
(Pomeroy 1974; Camilli et al. 2010; Atlas and Hazen 2011). On April 20, 2010 the Macondo Blowout,
the largest accidental oil spill in the GoM and the second largest in the world, released an estimated
4.9 million barrels of crude oil (Atlas and Hazen 2011). This significant ecological perturbation of the
sea and coastal region has led to negative impacts in local fishing, aquaculture and tourism (National
Health Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (US) Gulf Ecology Division 1999; Yanez
Arancibia and Day 2004; Arreguin Sanchez et al. 2004; Ritchie and Keller 2008). Since the
occurrence of the oil spill, most studies used molecular approaches including NextGen sequencing
technology to assess the diversity and metabolism of complex microbial communities in oil
contaminated environments, particularly samples collected from off shore locations surrounding the

The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
The Last Lecture The Last Lecture, a book that inspires someone to look at life differently and
appreciate the time they are given. Randy Pausch was a computer science professor who was
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which at some point, ended up being terminal. He was a professor
at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was very much loved and respected. Before his time would
come, he was asked to give one last lecture which was to be presented as what he would want to tell
the people around him before he died. In his lecture, on September 18th, 2007, he presented an
argument that an individual can lead a life full of happiness if their mindset is centered in bettering the
lives of those around. The purpose of his lecture was to leave a ... Show more content on

Since he was young his parents taught him the importance of people over things. He talks about the
time he got his first convertible and drove to his sister s house to pick up his niece and nephew. After
seeing his sister explain to the kids how careful they needed to be in his car, and his nephew getting
sick and throwing up in the backseat, Randy starts to pour a can of soda in the car. He did not care
much about the car getting dirty, but focused more on making sure his nephew did not feel
embarrassed that he was sick. The message he was trying to get through to the audience was that life is
too valuable to waste it chasing possessions. In today s society, it often seems that people are focusing
more on their possessions than one another or experiences. But these possessions steal time, energy,
and attention that can be used on ore valuable and meaningful in life. Materialistic things are
temporary, they constantly perish and fade. But memories and experiences are forever. The joy,
fulfillment and happiness that many look for in these possessions can be found in invisible things such
as love, peace, relationships and hope. The heart and the soul is what makes someone valuable. The
people who live their lives pursuing materialistic possessions are never happy. They are always
desiring newer or bigger things because their deepest heart desires are not satisfied through these
material possessions. Materialism is a distraction. People are spending so much time trying to have the
perfect car, perfect house, and perfect appearance and less time focusing on the importance of family,
friendships, and one another. There is a huge difference between material happiness and spiritual
happiness and that is something Randy also wanted his kids to remember and understand as they were

The Theory And Factors Affecting Reaction Rates
Chemical Background Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of many reactions that occur within the
body however, it is toxic so needs to be broken down. The equation for this decomposition is as
follows: 〖2H〗_2 O_2 → 〖2H〗_2 O+ O_2 In the body, this reaction can be catalysed by the
enzyme catalase. Catalase is not removed or used up in this reaction, and speeds up the rate of
reaction. It is acting as a catalyst. The decomposition can be catalysed by other catalysts, however, and
this is the basis of my investigation. By using different catalysts, I can investigate how the rate of
reaction changes with each one and find out if catalase is the best catalyst for this decomposition. The
collision theory and factors affecting reaction rates For a reaction to take place, two particles must
collide with each other so they come in to contact. However, just colliding with each other does not
initiate a reaction. Something called the activation enthalpy must be overcome. The activation
enthalpy is the minimum (kinetic) energy required by a pair of molecules that are colliding before a
reaction can occur. So, for a reaction to take place, pairs of molecules must collide with enough energy
to equal or overcome the activation enthalpy. There are several factors that affect the rate of reaction
(three of which I am investigating). The factors are as follows: Concentration of reactants This factor
is explored in more depth in a later section. Temperature this factor is explored in

accompanied by a brief discussion on Taco Bell, with our final subject covering healthier fast food
options. The origins of the fast food death machine : The machines gears were forged by the company

In addition to the actual state of the restaurant the figure head of a fast food industry must also capture
the minds of potential consumer via a seemingly moronic yet intelligent and sentient being. A perfect
example of this would be the clown from McDonald s, his bizarre and inhuman looks capturing the
visual attention of the consumer while the mild mannered psychotic behavior both tantalizes us and
fills us with fear of the consequences of not consuming the double cheese burger. Another prime
example would be the burger king (view a commercial with the king and all of this will make perfect
sense) and his disturbing imagery and behavior, simply appearing at your bed side offering flame
broiled delights always with a exceedingly morbid and paralyzing smile suggesting that the burgers
are poisoned and that one will die as a result of eating them (of course the commercial never shows
the fate of the kings victim). In retrospect while it may appear that the gimmicks themselves do not
actually draw the consumer in the imagery mixed with their events taking place seem to have captured
and reeled in the consumers mind and thus achieved the companies goal. The economic way is the
only way: since the beginning of the fast food industry there has always been one simplistic train of
thought, yes its good but how do we make money

Research Paper on Twain s Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel about a young boy s coming of age in the
Missouri of the mid 1800 s. It is the story of Huck s struggle to win freedom for himself and Jim, a
Negro slave. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was Mark Twain s greatest book, and a delighted world
named it his masterpiece. To nations knowing it well Huck riding his raft in every language men could
print it was America s masterpiece (Allen 259). It is considered one of the greatest novels because it

This method served him best after he had conjured up characters from long ago, who on coming to life
wrote the narrative for him, passing from incident to incident with a grace their creator could never
achieve in manipulating an artificial plot (Kaplan 16).
His best friend of forty years William D. Howells, has this to say about Twain s writing. So far as I
know, Mr. Clemens is the first writer to use in extended writing the fashion we all use in thinking, and
to set down the thing that comes into his mind without fear or favor of the thing that went before or
the thing that may be about to follow (Howells 186).
The main character, Huckleberry Finn, spends much time in the novel floating down the Mississippi
River on a raft with a runaway slave named Jim. Before he does so, however, Huck spends some time
in the fictional town of St. Petersburg where a number of people attempt to influence him. Huck^Òs
feelings grow through the novel. Especially in his feelings toward his friends, family, blacks, and
society. Throughout the book, Huck usually looks into his own heart for guidance. Moral intuition is
the basis on which his character rests.
Before the novel begins, Huck Finn has led a life of absolute freedom. His drunken and often missing
father has never paid much attention to him; his mother is dead and so, when the novel begins, Huck is
not used to following any rules. In the beginning of the book Huck

The theme is played today between parents it is which is the best option for their children education.
Public or Private? Which of the two educational systems in Mexico is better? There are several things
that parents should consider when the best choice for the education of their child is picked up. Each
educational system is very different; the quality of teaching, especially the costs and resources of each
varies greatly. Today, there is the idea that in Mexico you have to pay a lot to get a good education.
The question is, which option is better, send your child to a public or private school?

function without public funding, it would be impossible to achieve: to serve the entire student
population and allow gaps in educational inequality begin to be reversed.
Every year, high school results seem to confirm the supremacy of private education: high school
average of note who come from private schools is much better than those who come from public
schools. From high school students to make the average marc achieved by those who come from
public schools is 69.2, while those who come from private schools get an average of 79.9. (La Nacion

huge number of students from both public schools get higher grades than those studying in private
schools.

The dangers of bothsideism in which pundits tries to equate two opposing sides of an issue has caused
havoc on the American public. Its detrimental effects has affected the livelihood of countless
Americans and since the 1970s American politics has been on a downward slope. It is no mere
coincidence that it coincides with the rise of the American right, the Republicans. Once proudly
championed as the party of Lincoln is no more as its shameless gimmicks, vindictive leaders and the

Thomas Mann and Norman Ornstein, experts in their respective studies are keen to issues that plagued
American politics. Mann and Ornstein are two individuals who beliefs fall on opposing sides of the
political spectrum in America. In particular, Ornstein is a resident scholar of the American Enterprise

American politics. During the past several decades the Republican Party has taken a sharp right turn
without looking back. It did not help that the constant comparison of Republican actions to their
counterparts Democrats is wrong, as the latter is anything but like the former. Clearly, many, not all
were blind to the fact that Republican leaders craved the comparison because it normalizes their
reckless behavior. In fact, the coverage gave further credence in their plan and allowed for far more
egregious acts under the Republican spirit . However, the authors correctly acknowledge the issues
that are hindering the political system from reaching its maximum potential and offer solutions in the
latter portion of the book to remedy

Communication Is A Key Element For The Success Of The...
In a group, communication is a key element that contributes to the success of the group. Without
communication between group members, the tasks will not be fulfilled. This is why communication
was an important aspect in our team.
There were several forms of communication used throughout our project. Some included
communicating in person as well as communicating after class. However, when we began to work on
the interview portion of the assignment, we were all very busy and could no longer meet face to face.
This is when we decided to keep in touch through technology for future references. We did so by
communicating through an app called Groupme. By utilizing this app, we were able to control,
organize, and plan for all of the tasks required.
Another form of communication that we used during this time was Google Docs. Google Docs
allowed us to examine, edit, and comment on each other s assigned portion of the assignment. It was
extremely convenient and effortless to use. This is how we conclusively agreed on the final
submission of assignment.Overall, the communication within our team was efficient and successful.
II. Group Decision Making:

Social Civilization In Korea
The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan was in a
great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to
discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in
interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl
Marx s Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply
and demand of labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist
production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her
free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to
capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly
handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can
assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist
manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive
apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to
formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto
impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in

He wants value for his money in terms of quality and variety. No wonder, multi cuisine restaurants are
mushrooming even in small towns. Italian, Mexican, Lebanese, Japanese, Cajun the list is growing.
Corroborating this trend, Euromonitor International, a market research company, says the amount of
money Indians spend on meals outside the home has more than doubled in the past decade, to about
US$5 billion a year, and is expected to double again in about half that time.
Another interesting trend noticed in consumer patterns is the growth of branded products. The branded
food market is on a roll. It grew over 5 per cent in 2004, according to the latest ACNielsen Global
Services report on global trends in food and beverages.
That makes food an attractive proposition for investors. Savvy companies have pumped in more than
Rs 60,000 crore (US$13.78 billion) in new food and farm businesses in 2004. According to industry
estimates, 321 private sector projects worth Rs 60,360 crore (US$13.86 billion) were announced in
2004 compared to 89 with an investment of Rs 2,130 crore (US$489.3 million) in 2003.

out. I was not expected to live while my mom was pregnant with me and my sister. After I was born, I
was rushed to surgery to remove part of my left lung. Because of the doctors and nurses that had been
there for me while I was fighting my battles, I had survived and lead a healthy, normal life now. I want
to do the same thing for someone else. I love the idea of being the so called superhero of someone else
s life. There are many shapes and sizes of the jobs that registered nurses may do. They provide health
care for patients, inform patients of their health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support
to patients and their family members (summary). Registered nurses also help doctors during exams
and surgeries and dress wounds and incisions (RN Careers). Registered nurses cater to their patient s
physical and emotional needs. They comfort a patient and help them emotionally just as much as they
help them physically. Nurses often spend a lot of time with patients, resulting in lasting relationships
(20 reasons). Very seldomly do you find a career where relationships are built with your clients or
patients. Nurses are very fortunate to get to experience these

Volkswagen Commercial Essay
When Star Wars, Volkswagen, and Advertisement Industry Unite The visual claim being responded to
is called The Force: Volkswagen Commercial. In the popular commercial from the 2011 Super Bowl, a
child dressed up as Darth Vader is shown attempting to use the force on different things around his
home. None of the items react which makes him sad. When his father pulls up in the drive way in a
Volkswagen Passat the boy ecstatically runs outside and attempts to use the force on the car. With the
click of a button on the keychain the father turns the car on and makes his son think he used the force
to turn on the car. When I first saw the commercial it made me and my family laugh. Volkswagen
wants the viewer of the commercial to go out and buy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now before it was mentioned that a strength the commercial had was the fact that it was aired during
the 2011 Super Bowl but at the same time tat was also a weakness. Now the commercials during the
Super Bowl get a lot of popularity but they do not get much screen time for 2 major reasons. The first
being it costs millions of dollars to get a commercial to air during the Super Bowl and second, many
other companies want to get a commercial to air also so the time has to be split evenly. Little screen
time means sacrificing vital information for the commercial. In other words, the commercial was good
at making itself memorable and fun to watch but it did not display many features or specifications
about the car that are important when someone is in the market to buy a car. The only feature
Volkswagen showed was the fact that you could click a button on your keychain to turn the car on.
That feature is not important when it comes to the safety of the vehicle or how many miles to the
gallon the car has. If people did not care about the specifications then there would be no competition
in the car industry other than to make a car as fancy looking as possible. Another weakness the
commercial displayed was not giving a good price point for the car. The commercial said prices
starting at $20,000, which to begin is a bit high to begin at for a 4 door sedan. Also, what would make
the price higher? This brings viewers back to the specifics of the car that the commercial doesn t tell

Hypostatic Union Sociology
The hypostatic union described the integration between Jesus humanity and divinity in a single
individual. Jesus, is not only considered the incarnate son, he is also considered to be the Second
Divine Person. Within the hypostatic union, there are two aspects that help in understanding this
union. These are the ontological and physiological aspects.
The ontological aspect focuses on the Second Divine Person. Jesus assumed the human nature as his
own. With this close union between Jesus human nature and the divine Son, his human identity is
made clear. Jesus human nature allows him to exist as the immaculate human manifestation of the
eternal the Son. St Thomas describes it as the Word himself as it were, becomes a human being by

Teddy Roosevelt Essays
Theodore Roosevelt, born October 27, 1858, was the United States twenty sixth President. Roosevelt
was born into a wealthy and socially dominant family. Though he was a quick thinker and very bright,
he was not very physically fit; Roosevelt had severe asthma attacks as a youth. (Andrews) Roosevelt
attended Harvard College starting with a science major, but his eventual majors were law and politics.
After graduating Harvard in 1880, Roosevelt married his first wife, had his first child, and lost his
wife two weeks after the birth of their daughter on Valentines day 1884. He had also begun his career
in politics, joining the Republican Party when they were treated like a private organization, having

Roosevelt had stated, If I wanted anything to eat it was wise to carry it with me. He also suggested, I
would earnestly advise the men of every volunteer organization always to proceed upon the belief that
their supplies will not turn up. (Roosevelt)
In June of 1898 at the battle of San Juan Hill, Roosevelt was given notification that there might be
orders to fall back. After seeing his men fight, he told General Joseph Wheeler that he did not know if
he could follow those orders. Roosevelt and his men were often told that the battles would take place
at night and it so happened that one Saturday morning there were shots fired and by morning there
was artillery being fired at the regiment. (Roosevelt)
After the battle at San Juan Hill, the men were exhausted and hungry. They had managed to gain
control of some of the Spanish s supplies and provisions. (Jeffers)
Despite the Rough Riders accomplishments during the Spanish American War, Washington was given
the option to withdraw their troops from Cuba, but the proposal was vetoed. Allowing the men to
fulfill their patriotic duty, but also caused a huge increase in sickness and fatigue. (Roosevelt) Even

industry. Walter Shewart developed his first statistical theory about quality control. He made his first
sketch of a modern control chart, which is later on, developed by Deming in the 1940 s. It was the first
time when this statistical theory began to be applied to manufacturing process. However there was
little use of these techniques till the beginning of 1950 s.
By the last midcentury, the demand of quality control was highly increasing due to the raise of mass
production. The techniques of the quality control became strongly important and required during the
1940 s and 1950 s.
At the same time, Japanese people recognized the importance of quality management. They started to
implement quality management practices in their industry by the 1950 s. A decade later, Japan started
to export products to USA and Europe which was cheaper and higher in quality, compared to western
products.
Consumers worldwide relied on Japanese products as higher quality and cheaper price comparing to
western products. North American considered japan as serious threat to their industry and realized the
magnitude of quality management. Figure 1 illustrates the difference between Japanese quality

Persuasive Writing
The four styles of writing all consist of different elements that uniquely contrast themselves from one
another. These components provide numerous options for the author on how to best convey the style
of writing he or she has chosen. The three dominant modes of persuasive writing are Ethos, Pathos,
and Logos. While these are exceptionally distinct approaches, all are equally necessary to satisfy
various audiences. The two novels, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and Fast Food Nation by Eric
Schlosser were written to reveal the harmful conditions of the meat packing industry after their
experiences in the factories. The use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos helped the muckraker writers portray
their concern of worker s rights and safety.
Initially, Ethos utilizes characters to display the credibility of the persuader. This produces a reasoning
behind why the reader should consider what the author is trying to express. An author can
progressively expand upon this throughout his or her work with tactics such as retaining an unbiased
tone, institute his or her prowess of the situation, and using proper syntax. Sinclair states in The
Jungle, With one member trimming beef in a cannery, and another in a sausage factory, the family had
a first hand knowledge of the great majority of Packingtown swindles (Sinclair $$$$). This quote
indicates the amount of deception the family has experienced from the meatpacking industry as a
whole. By explaining that each member continuously deals with

Frank Sinatra Essay
Frank Sinatra Howard Cosell, a legendary commentator, spoke words about this legendary man that
more or less sums up his legendary career. He said Frank Sinatra, who has the phrasing, who has the
control, who understands the composers, who knows what losing means as so many have, who made
the great comeback, who stands still, enduringly, on top of the entertainment world. Ladies and
gentlemen, from here on in it s Frank Sinatra! Frank Sinatra, the only singer in history to have hit
records in five consecutive decades, led a lot more distinctive life than people were led to believe.
It all began December 12, 1915, when a boy named Francis Albert Sinatra was brought into the world.
He was the son of Dolly and Anthony Sinatra, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, In 1960 Frank decided to move to a new record company. This company was called Reprise
Records, which Frank co owned. Sinatra recorded exclusively there.
Over the Years, Frank did various concerts, several movies, and many special appearances. During the
50 s and early 60 s Sinatra remained the top seller in the album market. He worked with everyone
from his early inspiration Bing Crosby to young rock stars such as Quincy Jones and Elvis Presley.
Besides from being an excellent singer, Frank could act. He starred in such films as The Man with the
Golden Arm, Suddenly, and one of his greatest films Guys and Dolls. MGM said he (Frank) was so
skinny, he wouldn t throw a shadow. I told them he would throw the biggest shadow Hollywood has
ever seen (George Sidney 2). And in 1953, Frank did just that. He won an Academy Award in Best
Supporting Actor for the role of Maggio in movie From Here to Eternity.
In 1939, Frank fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams; he married his childhood sweetheart Nancy
Barbato. He had three kids: Nancy Sandra, Franklin Wayne Emmanuel (Frank Jr.), and Christina.
However, in 1949, Frank divorced Nancy after ten years of marriage because of an affair involving
Frank and Ava Gardner. This ran his career into a severe crisis. He was fired from his radio show,
Columbia wanted him out, and six months later his New York concerts flopped! To make matters
worse, he lost his voice do to vocal cord

Similarities Between Plautus The Conduct And Treatment Of...
First off, Ancient Rome is very famous for its similarity with Ancient Greece in that it used plays and
fights in the arenas as sources of entertainment for its citizens. A wide variety of performed and
written plays are available to the modern historian and can be used to delve into the culture of Ancient
Romans, and some of the plays are written about slavery. In The Conduct and Treatment of Slaves,
playwright Plautus depicts the horrors of serving as a slave under an inconsiderate master. In the play,
a master, Ballio, is revealed to show no mercy as he whips and flogs his slaves into submission. The
repetition of abusive rhetoric and constant physical violence make it clear that Ballio is a slave master
whose wants and needs are

The Impact Of The Military Revolution On Japan
A military revolution started in sixteenth century in Europe with the introduction of firearms (Stavros
243). Before the military revolution, Japan was divided in region and controlled by different warlords
and the country was politically unstable. However, after the arrival of firearms from the West, Japan
has changed dramatically. The result of the military revolution was the development of a strong central
power, which helped Japan become a modern nation (McNeill and McNeill 197). Oda Nobunaga, a
military leader, and his successor, Toyotomi Hideyoshi was able to unify Japan under a single
powerful, central government and brought political stability (Brown 238). This essay will explore

The extensive production of muskets and ammunition helped economy grow rapidly. As the demand
for guns grew, skilled gunsmiths established schools and workshops to train men and numerous
numbers of shops started to emerge throughout Japan. Sakai and Yokkaichi and Kunitomo became
especially well known as the center of manufacturer of firearms. According to the writing by a
Portuguese explorer, Japan was able to produce a large number of guns just within two or three years
and there were over 300,000 guns by 1556 (Brown 238). The construction of the Osaka Castle
stimulated greater industrial and commercial business. This castle was built to express Hideyoshi s
power but another contributing factor was the usage of artillery in siege warfare (Brown 249). In
1586, the Osaka Castle was completed. The walls of the castle consist of large granite stones that were
about 10 feet wide and 40 feet long and the total thickness of the wall is 18 to 21 feet. The eight
storied castle had iron covered gates and roofs and the base of the castle was mainly made out of stone
(Brown 248). These large quantities of high quality materials contributed to the flow of economy. In
addition, the movement of large number of soldiers to long distance places also contributed in
economy (Brown

  • 2. Harvard Case Study Analysis Harvard Case Review and Analysis 1. Jeff Immelt s strategies for GE were solid in a theoretical sense. The company should have been delivering above average returns and seen all the positives that he preached about it. The reason this did not happen and they faced some humiliation in 2008 until 2010 were due to GE Capital. Immelt thought that they were diversified enough to survive the economic downturn. However this proved to be wrong. In an interview for BusinessWeek magazine David Magee, author of Jeff Immelt and the New GE Way, spoke on what was going wrong for GE. He believes that Immelt and GE did not correctly predict how bad the financial downturn was going to be. By missing that their beliefs that they were diversified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with what the analysts have said and that the most important thing for GE is to get their stock prices back up. Immelt is trying to do so without selling GE Capital. I believe that in order to get their prices back up they need to downsize GE Capital and have less money tied up in assets that are in this very volatile market, especially real estate. This will help build confidence in investors that they will not see huge losses if the economy takes another turn for the worst. Until that happens I do not see GE getting back on track with Immelt s plans of growth and profit. 2. GE s corporate strategy is one of moderate to high level of diversification. More specifically one that is related linked. Most people call them a conglomerate or a company made up of very different companies all operating in different industries. However GE s CEO Jeff Immelt sees it differently. He doesn t see a conglomerate he sees a company that is diversified over many industries, but one that works together towards a common goal. You can see that in the way that research and development in one of their industries is used to improve their product or service in a different part of the company. By having all of these differentiated industries working together under the name of GE they have been very successful company. Now the situation is changing. People are seeing GE struggle especially GE Capital. To make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Interior Monologue on Lady Macbeth First came the pride, an overwhelming sense of achievement, an accomplishment due to great ambition, but slowly and enduringly surged a world of guilt and confusion, the conscience which I once thought diminished, began to grow, soon defeating the title and its rewards. Slowly the unforgotten memories from that merciless night overcame me and I succumbed to the incessant and horrific images, the bloody dagger, a lifeless corpse. I wash, I scrub, I tear at the flesh on my hands, trying desperately to cleanse myself of the blood. But the filthy witness remains, stained, never to be removed. I believe there are two kinds of people in life; the kind that let things happen and the kind that make things happen. I prefer to think of myself as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What possessed me? Why did I assume I could play the role of the almighty? Upon hearing news from my beloved Macbeth of the witches prophecies I found myself overwhelmed by desire, by greed. I knew that Macbeth, with his pure and noble disposition would never posses the ambition, the drive, to make the necessary sacrifices in order to fulfil the glory promising prophecies of the imperfect speakers. And so, I signed my own death warrant, I poured mine spirits into thine ear , I persuaded my innocent husband to commit a crime which I and not he, deserved to pay the price for. I am a murderer. Perhaps the crime was not committed by my hands, but it was intended by my mind. It was my will that worked through Macbeth when he drew the treacherous blade and plunged it into the heart of the unsuspecting king. I, his other half, his soul mate, the love of his life, taunted him of being a coward, questioning his reputable manliness, and like a puppet he moved as I pulled the strings. I am lost in the turmoil of my own mind, the faithful spirits that tend on mortal thoughts , deserted me long ago. I repudiated my fundamental social aspect of being a woman and a wife. I did the unthinkable and gave away my woman hood, my femininity, my tenderness. And what for? To stop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Corporate Law Case Study Capital Pty Ltd is inquiring into the Commissioner of Tax s notice disallowing the tax deduction for bad debt. The Commissioner based the argument on the premise that Capital Pty Ltd is a mere appendage of Eastfield Ltd. This being the case, it is necessary to examine the exact relationship between Capital Pty Ltd and Eastfield Ltd and determine the likelihood of the courts lifting the corporate veil. Separate Entity Salomon v Salomon amp; Co established the key principle that an incorporated company is a separate legal entity from its founder, shareholders and directors . To further this point, the Albazero case provided authority within a group of companies, whereby each company is a separate legal entity with distinct legal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is verified by the fact that all of the profits of Capital were to be distributed to Eastfield through a dividend payment. Secondly, the subsidiary must be actively conducting the business as appointed by the parent. Since Capital Pty Ltd was initially set up for the financing needs of Eastfield, and solely used the workforce of Eastfield, this second criteria is met. Further, since Eastfield decided on a strategic plan which called for a new corporate structure , essentially supplying the debt finance for Eastfield, it can be said that Eastfield was the head and brain of this trading venture, thus meeting the third criteria. Additionally, as Eastfield decided all decisions regarding this capital funding structure, the 4th agency principle is met; whereby the parent company governs the venture and determining capital structure. Since Capital earned significant interest income...from the repayment of the various loans...undertaken by Eastfield it can be established that the parent company, Eastfield, maintained profits through its own skill and direction towards the subsidiary. Lastly, the parent company must be in constant and effectual control, which is confirmed by the fact that all the directors of the subsidiary company, sit on the board of the parent company, thus establishing constant and effective control. Through the above mentioned, it can be significantly argued that Capital and Eastfield meet all 6 requirements that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Macondo Blowout in The Gulf of Mexico Introduction The Gulf of Mexico (GoM) harbors a rich biota with ecological and high commercial significance (Yanez Arancibia and Day 2004). In this ecosystem, the microorganisms are the primary consumers and play major role in the biogeochemical cycling of organic matters (Pomeroy 1974). The GoM ecosystem is often perturbed by natural calamities or human activities affecting the microbial community structure (Kryachko et al. 2012) and the associated nutrient cycling at all trophic levels (Pomeroy 1974; Camilli et al. 2010; Atlas and Hazen 2011). On April 20, 2010 the Macondo Blowout, the largest accidental oil spill in the GoM and the second largest in the world, released an estimated 4.9 million barrels of crude oil (Atlas and Hazen 2011). This significant ecological perturbation of the sea and coastal region has led to negative impacts in local fishing, aquaculture and tourism (National Health Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (US) Gulf Ecology Division 1999; Yanez Arancibia and Day 2004; Arreguin Sanchez et al. 2004; Ritchie and Keller 2008). Since the occurrence of the oil spill, most studies used molecular approaches including NextGen sequencing technology to assess the diversity and metabolism of complex microbial communities in oil contaminated environments, particularly samples collected from off shore locations surrounding the Macondo Blowout (Evans et al. 2004; Bordenave et al. 2007; Cappello et al. 2007; Liang et al. 2007; dos Santos et al. 2011; ... • 6. The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch The Last Lecture The Last Lecture, a book that inspires someone to look at life differently and appreciate the time they are given. Randy Pausch was a computer science professor who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which at some point, ended up being terminal. He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, where he was very much loved and respected. Before his time would come, he was asked to give one last lecture which was to be presented as what he would want to tell the people around him before he died. In his lecture, on September 18th, 2007, he presented an argument that an individual can lead a life full of happiness if their mindset is centered in bettering the lives of those around. The purpose of his lecture was to leave a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since he was young his parents taught him the importance of people over things. He talks about the time he got his first convertible and drove to his sister s house to pick up his niece and nephew. After seeing his sister explain to the kids how careful they needed to be in his car, and his nephew getting sick and throwing up in the backseat, Randy starts to pour a can of soda in the car. He did not care much about the car getting dirty, but focused more on making sure his nephew did not feel embarrassed that he was sick. The message he was trying to get through to the audience was that life is too valuable to waste it chasing possessions. In today s society, it often seems that people are focusing more on their possessions than one another or experiences. But these possessions steal time, energy, and attention that can be used on ore valuable and meaningful in life. Materialistic things are temporary, they constantly perish and fade. But memories and experiences are forever. The joy, fulfillment and happiness that many look for in these possessions can be found in invisible things such as love, peace, relationships and hope. The heart and the soul is what makes someone valuable. The people who live their lives pursuing materialistic possessions are never happy. They are always desiring newer or bigger things because their deepest heart desires are not satisfied through these material possessions. Materialism is a distraction. People are spending so much time trying to have the perfect car, perfect house, and perfect appearance and less time focusing on the importance of family, friendships, and one another. There is a huge difference between material happiness and spiritual happiness and that is something Randy also wanted his kids to remember and understand as they were growing ... • 7. The Theory And Factors Affecting Reaction Rates Chemical Background Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of many reactions that occur within the body however, it is toxic so needs to be broken down. The equation for this decomposition is as follows: 〖2H〗_2 O_2 → 〖2H〗_2 O+ O_2 In the body, this reaction can be catalysed by the enzyme catalase. Catalase is not removed or used up in this reaction, and speeds up the rate of reaction. It is acting as a catalyst. The decomposition can be catalysed by other catalysts, however, and this is the basis of my investigation. By using different catalysts, I can investigate how the rate of reaction changes with each one and find out if catalase is the best catalyst for this decomposition. The collision theory and factors affecting reaction rates For a reaction to take place, two particles must collide with each other so they come in to contact. However, just colliding with each other does not initiate a reaction. Something called the activation enthalpy must be overcome. The activation enthalpy is the minimum (kinetic) energy required by a pair of molecules that are colliding before a reaction can occur. So, for a reaction to take place, pairs of molecules must collide with enough energy to equal or overcome the activation enthalpy. There are several factors that affect the rate of reaction (three of which I am investigating). The factors are as follows: Concentration of reactants This factor is explored in more depth in a later section. Temperature this factor is explored in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fast food itself has always been changing due to social, economic, and health concerns. To begin I will cover the origins of fast food, followed by a brief discussion about McDonalds as well as Burger King. This will be accompanied by a brief discussion on Taco Bell, with our final subject covering healthier fast food options. The origins of the fast food death machine : The machines gears were forged by the company known as Horn and Hardarts, based on the needs of the American populace in the year of 1902 to provide quick and cheap service and food to the hungry masses who craved the sustenance with hunger untold in the land of New York. In addition to the actual state of the restaurant the figure head of a fast food industry must also capture the minds of potential consumer via a seemingly moronic yet intelligent and sentient being. A perfect example of this would be the clown from McDonald s, his bizarre and inhuman looks capturing the visual attention of the consumer while the mild mannered psychotic behavior both tantalizes us and fills us with fear of the consequences of not consuming the double cheese burger. Another prime example would be the burger king (view a commercial with the king and all of this will make perfect sense) and his disturbing imagery and behavior, simply appearing at your bed side offering flame broiled delights always with a exceedingly morbid and paralyzing smile suggesting that the burgers are poisoned and that one will die as a result of eating them (of course the commercial never shows the fate of the kings victim). In retrospect while it may appear that the gimmicks themselves do not actually draw the consumer in the imagery mixed with their events taking place seem to have captured and reeled in the consumers mind and thus achieved the companies goal. The economic way is the only way: since the beginning of the fast food industry there has always been one simplistic train of thought, yes its good but how do we make money ... It is the story of Huck s struggle to win freedom for himself and Jim, a Negro slave. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was Mark Twain s greatest book, and a delighted world named it his masterpiece. To nations knowing it well Huck riding his raft in every language men could print it was America s masterpiece (Allen 259). This method served him best after he had conjured up characters from long ago, who on coming to life wrote the narrative for him, passing from incident to incident with a grace their creator could never achieve in manipulating an artificial plot (Kaplan 16). His best friend of forty years William D. Howells, has this to say about Twain s writing. So far as I know, Mr. Clemens is the first writer to use in extended writing the fashion we all use in thinking, and to set down the thing that comes into his mind without fear or favor of the thing that went before or the thing that may be about to follow (Howells 186). The main character, Huckleberry Finn, spends much time in the novel floating down the Mississippi River on a raft with a runaway slave named Jim. Before he does so, however, Huck spends some time in the fictional town of St. Petersburg where a number of people attempt to influence him. Huck^Òs feelings grow through the novel. Especially in his feelings toward his friends, family, blacks, and society. Throughout the book, Huck usually looks into his own heart for guidance. Moral intuition is the basis on which his character rests. Before the novel begins, Huck Finn has led a life of absolute freedom. His drunken and often missing father has never paid much attention to him; his mother is dead and so, when the novel begins, Huck is not used to following any rules. • 14. The Republican Party Summary The dangers of bothsideism in which pundits tries to equate two opposing sides of an issue has caused havoc on the American public. Its detrimental effects has affected the livelihood of countless Americans and since the 1970s American politics has been on a downward slope. It is no mere coincidence that it coincides with the rise of the American right, the Republicans. Once proudly championed as the party of Lincoln is no more as its shameless gimmicks, vindictive leaders and the belief that the greater good of the party is greater than the nation succinctly describes current Republicans. Their tactics succeeded but it came at a devastating cost; its end result, the undermining public belief in the American government. Although, the general ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular, Ornstein is a resident scholar of the American Enterprise Institute, a powerful conservative think tank and writing contributor to Roll Call, a conservative newspaper. In the event of critics, Ornstein gives a refreshing take on the issues in contemporary American politics. During the past several decades the Republican Party has taken a sharp right turn without looking back. It did not help that the constant comparison of Republican actions to their counterparts Democrats is wrong, as the latter is anything but like the former. Clearly, many, not all were blind to the fact that Republican leaders craved the comparison because it normalizes their reckless behavior. In fact, the coverage gave further credence in their plan and allowed for far more egregious acts under the Republican spirit . Without communication between group members, the tasks will not be fulfilled. This is why communication was an important aspect in our team. There were several forms of communication used throughout our project. Some included communicating in person as well as communicating after class. However, when we began to work on the interview portion of the assignment, we were all very busy and could no longer meet face to face. This is when we decided to keep in touch through technology for future references. We did so by communicating through an app called Groupme. By utilizing this app, we were able to control, organize, and plan for all of the tasks required. Another form of communication that we used during this time was Google Docs. Google Docs allowed us to examine, edit, and comment on each other s assigned portion of the assignment. It was extremely convenient and effortless to use. This is how we conclusively agreed on the final submission of assignment.Overall, the communication within our team was efficient and successful. II. • 17. Social Civilization In Korea The Japanese colonization of Korea made Koreans an easy target of exploitation. Since Japan was in a great need of cheap labor, Korean workers were recruited during 1920s. In this essay, I am going to discuss the significance of institutional racial discrimination targeted towards Korean workers in interwar Japan as a tool of alienation and exploitation. One of the abiding discernments formed in Karl Marx s Capital is that in the colonies of capitalist nation states the apparitions of the law of the supply and demand of labor are crushed. In the home country, the magnificent allurement of capitalist production can be found in its capability to reproduce the wage laborer by regularly setting him or her free, firing him or her and by creating a surplus population that rests in approximate exteriority to capitalist manufacturing as the prerequisite for the commodification of labor power. Regularly handling labor power as a expendable commodity is hence the way capitalist manufacturing can assure that its most nonexpendable commodity labor power is constantly there by the time capitalist manufacturing encounters so called labor shortages during industrial expansion. It is this reproductive apparatus that enables the smug knavery of the Japanese colonial policymaker to envision and to formalize into normalized principles of economic shift, that owners of labor power who are de facto impelled to enter into a relationship of reliance with the wage form can take part in ... Now the commercials during the Super Bowl get a lot of popularity but they do not get much screen time for 2 major reasons. The first being it costs millions of dollars to get a commercial to air during the Super Bowl and second, many other companies want to get a commercial to air also so the time has to be split evenly. Little screen time means sacrificing vital information for the commercial. In other words, the commercial was good at making itself memorable and fun to watch but it did not display many features or specifications about the car that are important when someone is in the market to buy a car. The only feature Volkswagen showed was the fact that you could click a button on your keychain to turn the car on. That feature is not important when it comes to the safety of the vehicle or how many miles to the gallon the car has. If people did not care about the specifications then there would be no competition in the car industry other than to make a car as fancy looking as possible. Another weakness the commercial displayed was not giving a good price point for the car. The commercial said prices starting at $20,000, which to begin is a bit high to begin at for a 4 door sedan. • 27. Persuasive Writing The four styles of writing all consist of different elements that uniquely contrast themselves from one another. These components provide numerous options for the author on how to best convey the style of writing he or she has chosen. The three dominant modes of persuasive writing are Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. While these are exceptionally distinct approaches, all are equally necessary to satisfy various audiences. The two novels, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser were written to reveal the harmful conditions of the meat packing industry after their experiences in the factories. The use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos helped the muckraker writers portray their concern of worker s rights and safety. Initially, Ethos utilizes characters to display the credibility of the persuader. This produces a reasoning behind why the reader should consider what the author is trying to express. An author can progressively expand upon this throughout his or her work with tactics such as retaining an unbiased tone, institute his or her prowess of the situation, and using proper syntax. Sinclair states in The Jungle, With one member trimming beef in a cannery, and another in a sausage factory, the family had a first hand knowledge of the great majority of Packingtown swindles (Sinclair $$$$).
