Difference Between African American English Diverging From...
African American English is diverging from Standard American English. As shown in Do You Speak
American (2005), AAE originates from the time of the trans Atlantic slave trade. English was
introduced to trade ports in Africa by colonialists, resulting in the creation of pidgin a mixture of
English and African languages that is still in use today. More recently, African Americans who have
moved from the South to the North have been more segregated, creating greater divergence between
AAE and SAE. As many African Americans maintain ties to the South, such as continued contact with
friends or family in the south, similarities between AAE and southern dialects remain. However, each
group have selected features that are important, such as maintaining r in the North or keeping certain
features as a way of preserving history, resulting in different dialect patterns between the North and
the South to develop.
It is arguable that African American English is a dialect of contemporary American English. While
AAE is different and is easily distinguishable from Standard American English, the two dialects still
share similarities and are forms of vernacular English. As AAE stems from and shares many linguistic
patterns with Creole and other African languages, it is possible to argue that AAE is in fact not related
to contemporary American English at all. However, I feel that the different influences on language are
simple markers of regional variation and not enough to fully

The Household Circle Of India
1.The household circle in France and that of India display numerous similarities. However, it may be
that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives like
grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living separately.
Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it is
economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the French
differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with those of the
enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire mentions that the
extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen in India as members
of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet as often as the French.
Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the aspects of the Indian
community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of the state of a young
adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate to stay nearby parents
until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain from an involvement of
morally disliked activities. Similarly, as mentioned on page 60 of the book Au Contraire, in France,
children attend universities in close proximity to their homes and lean to disapprove of

Randy Pausch, Speaking Skills
Randy Pausch; Speaking Strengths By Amanda Apatow Communications Paper #2 February 28th
2012 When faced with the knowledge that you are about to do something you love for the last time,
how would you react? When Randy Pausch, a virtual design professor at the University of Carnegie
Mellon was given the diagnosis of liver cancer with only a few months to live, he knew that
everything he did would be the last time he did it. Randy chose his last lecture to be an inspiring
tribute to his life and the people who made it everything he wanted it to be. His incredible speech is
delivered so full of life, that it is hard to imagine that he is practically walking to his deathbed. So
besides his predicament, what made Pausch s speech so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it is important to be direct and solid with your statements when you tell stories and give
instructions. All of Randy s sorties and jokes were easy to understand and direct. Something that
Pausch did that was very creative was his use of foreshadowing. The photo of him and his siblings on
the Alice ride at Disney as a child connected well with the program he designed later in life as a
professor. Furthermore, he made that it apparent to his audience that may not have originally seen the
connection by stating it was a foreshadowing moment. By leaving the story open ended until a later
time in his lecture, he captured the interest of people who didn t know him prior by intriguing them
with a mystery. Then to people who did understand, it was a fun and heartwarming connection. The
point of using foreshadowing and other organization techniques is to keep the brain occupied and
attentive. Pausch does an excellent job of this. Despite Pausch s tragic diagnosis, the man stands
strong with a positive outlook on life. His ability to be realistic about his condition commands respect
while his lightheartedness gives shows us that he is at peace with his fate. Pausch involves the
audience, speaking to them directly as if he is simply in an extensively long conversation. His jokes
are sweet and good hearted. Some jokes are more general, but a few were very

The Fifa World Cup Event
The FIFA World Cup, as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world that comes around
every four years, is often assumed by potential host countries as highly profitable. Current research,
however, suggests that the economic growth experienced by these host nations due to the World Cup
event is lower than the expectations they had. Specifically, a number of economists assert that no
observable short term economic growth exists within the tourism, retailing, accommodation, and
employment sectors of each one of the host countries (Allmers Maennig, 2009). As for the long term
impacts, some scholars insist that the World Cup cannot boost the four sectors listed above (Baumann,
Robert, Bryan Engelhardt, and Victor A. Matheson 2012), while others argue that other beneficial
factors, that do not affect the host countries in the short term, generate economic profits for host
countries in the long term (Maennig, 2009). Some scholars even critique this claim, however, arguing
that the new factors won t bring profits to host countries.
In my opinion, the World Cup seems to give the allusion that it will benefit the economy right away in
the short run, but this not necessarily true. On the other hand it is beneficial to the host countries and
the international economy in the long run, assuming that different factors are considered in the long
term analysis. These factors include the novelty effect of new stadiums, the feel good effect on
citizens, and the World Cup s effect

HISTORY OF JAVA:
Java is a simple object oriented computer programming language. Java is developed by James Gosling
at sun Microsystems. At first java is called as OAK after it is named as Green later on it is named as
java. Java is similar to C/C++ style. It is popular for Write once, Run Anywhere (WORA). It released
in 1995 as Java 1.0 . Unlike C and C++, Java can run in any operating system or in any computer. Java
allowed accessibility to network also. We can use java applets for web pages which increased the
popularity of java. Java programs take more memory than C++ programs, but java programs ... Show

Java has garbage collection. It is nothing but it creates an automatic memory. When compare to C++,
java is easy to build and less complicated. Full build in C++ might take up to 20 hours, while in java it
takes seven minutes. C++ don t have binary standard, but java have binary standard. Java is a general
purpose programming language, but C++ is designed for systems and application programs.
Features:
Object Oriented: Java is a pure object oriented programming language where C++ is semi oriented.
Basic concepts of object oriented program are object, class, inheritance, polymorphism, abstraction
and encapsulation.
Data Types: We can use many data types like Boolean, char, byte, int, short, float, long, double.
Memory Management: We can allocate memory for new objects. Objects that are not are in use will be
removed from the garbage collection by the garbage collector.
Multithreading: Java allows multiple threads to run and execute at a time. By using Thread class the
method will start, run and stop.
Simple: The java is simple and easy to understand. It is similar to C and C++. It contains no goto
statement but we can use break and continue . It don t have any header files. Java don t contain any
structures, unions, functions.
Interpreted:
When java code is compiled, it is converted into java byte code which is executed by java virtual
machine. JVM is not physically existed but it is a hypothetical processor that can run java code. Then

Negative Effects Of Napoleon Bonaparte
The Napoleonic Age was the most controversial time period. Some people thought Napoleon was a
reformer, while others thought he was an absolute dictator. One thing is for sure though, that he
shaped France/Europe into the continent/country is is today. Napoleon was very narcissistic and cruel,
and did not value human life. At the same time, he believed in education and instruction. Also, he
positively influenced the schools and created the Napoleonic Code, which solved a lot of France s
problems. Napoleon Bonaparte had a negative impact on France, because he mistreated the rights that
every human should obtain, created a bad image for other countries, and only really cared about
absolute power.
Napoleon was born in Corsica, Italy and was entered directly into the Military, at age ten. Napoleon s
leadership, and role as emperor, was heavily based around the fact that all of his childhood was being
trained in the military! Some people view this in a negative light (seeing other people just as a target,
and appreciating human life.) Some people on the other hand, view this in a positive light (Being a
good instructor, and knowing how to make the right moves with politics.) During the French
revolution the citizens of France tried to create a republic, and when they failed continuously,
Napoleon Bonaparte stepped up and became a strong leader in France. In 1799, the government
started to grow more and more corrupt, and that s when Napoleon came into play. Napoleon was an

60 Minute s 2013 episode, Lost and Found on Channel Nine told the heart warming story of Saroo
Brierley, who was once a lost young boy on busy Indian streets. 60 Minutes effectively use their short
time frame to tell this unique story of impossible odds, pure love and sheer determination, reminding
the viewers that anything is possible with determination. Through the use of interviews, re enactments
and various film techniques the intent of the documentary is successfully achieved.

on 60 Minutes has the intention to publicise the film, which brings up the thought about if the
documentary s main intention was influence the production of the film.
In conclusion, Lost and Found is a successful documentary as it evokes various emotions in the viewer
and successfully meets its intention. Additionally, Garith successfully makes Allision feel part of the
family by avoiding a traditional style of interviewing. The audio, camera angles and lighting effects
were appropriate to the mood of the current scene which assisted in manipulating the viewer.
Ultimately, Lost and Found is exceptionally well made as it successfully manipulates the viewer s

Mummification In The Mummy
The Mummy portrayed in the starting of the film, where Imhotep lies in his tomb, is different from
Imhotep who featured wrinkles in the rest of the film. Legendary make up artist Jack Pierce created
the iconic look in The Mummy, where he made Boris Karloff have relatively less make up for the
most the movie except for the opening scene, where Imhotep rises from his tomb covered in bandages.
To achieve the ancient rugged look, Pierce used a combination of cotton, collodion, spirit gum, and
linen bandages. As per the punishment to Imhotep, it shades a light on the process of mummification
in ancient Egypt. Unlike his mummification, the Egyptians embalm the body, and remove internal
organs (except the heart). They get rid of the brain by liquifying

Sydney Harbour Research Paper
During the period of over two hundred years of white settlement in Australia, Sydneysiders have
occasionally been warned of the possibility of an invasion. It was in late may and early June in 1942,
during the world war II, that Sydney harbour actually experienced an invasion or attack from three
Japanese Midget submarines. On the night of 29th may 1942, five Japanese substantial submarines
positioned themselves 56 kilometers north east of the entrance of Sydney harbour. At 2.47am the
following day one of the submarines I 29 launched a E14Y Glen float plane crewed by pilot Susumu
Ito. He flew an audacious, reconnaissance mission over the harbor with only aid of his navigation light
on the plane, (dimmer than the usual aircraft lights). Susumu Ito circled the cruiser of USS Chicago
and HMAS Canberra twice and confirming the target before flying off to the east. However while
flying east he was spotted by an anti aircraft battery The Sparrows at middle head, but lucky it
misinterpreted for an American Curtis Falcon float plane, luckily no alarm was raised. The plane
crashed into the ocean when coming back. Nevertheless, the Japanese were able to save the pilot and
retrieve the information from the mission, which proved to be critical for the submarines, so that they
could attack on the next night. 31st may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ronald Land Legend
Once many years ago, there was a small family that lived on a small farm. Their only child was a boy
named Ronald. Ronald s family had lived on the farm for hundreds of years, and will keep living there
for hundreds more. The farm was Ronald s destiny, just like it was the destiny of all his ancestors. The
farm was passed on when the previous owner died, and to symbolize the passing of the touch each
new owner would be handed the family s golden ring. Ronald was dreading his future. He never really
liked the farm, and he hated the reputation the ring carried even worse. There was an ancient legend
that stated those who put on the ring go crazy and suffer a premature death. It was just a legend, but
Ronald sincerely believed it. He believed it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and ran after Ronald. They chanted wear the ring as they ran. While Ronald was running he realized
that he didn t become a plant yet. He thought this was strange, because according to his father once
you re eighteen you start transforming, but Ronald had no signs of transformation. Seconds later,
Ronald found an old barn, and he climbed on top of it. He kicked down the latter so the citizens of the
city couldn t touch him. They surrounded the barn and chanted for Ronald to put the ring on. At that
moment, Ronald realized something. He realized that his family members only became strange when
they put the ring on. In fact, his father didn t start standing in the rain of burying himself until the first
time he wore the ring. Ronald realized that the ring turned his family into plants, not a

Persuasive Essay On Student Loans
College students graduate with an average student loan debt of approximately $37000. Of course, that
s not the whole story. Millions of college graduates have student loan debts ranging from $50,000 to
over $200,000.
With debt like that and sluggish economic growth, it s no wonder that more than a million people
defaulted on their student loans in 2016 alone.
Sometimes, though, the problem isn t the debt or a person s salary. The problem is the way student
loans get billed.
Say a student transferred from one college to another then attended graduate school. She could be
getting bills from three or more lenders every month.
If you struggle to keep track of who you owe money to at what time, it s probably time for you to
consolidate school loans.
Let s jump in and look at some of the reasons why.
Consolidate School Loans to Get One Interest Rate
Student loans interest rates change from year to year. Congress sets them based on performance in the
financial markets.
Say you spent four years as an undergrad and six years in graduate school. That means you re paying
student loans at ten interest rates. Depending on when you got the loans, there s a good chance that
some of those rates are higher than the current going rate.
Consolidating your loans lets you lock them all down at a single interest rate. If you time it right, you
can trim thousands off the total interest you pay over the lifetime of the loan.
Let s say you took out $100,000 in loans with average interest

The Life Of Prince Albert
The energy in the hall was electrifying, lively music played throughout. The room glowed from end to
end in candlelight and on every table, a beautiful spread of an assortment of food and drinks.
It was King Albert s thirty sixth birthday, and there was no shortage of faces celebrating not only their
king s birth but also, their victory over the Royal Household of the Gregorian: their neighbors to the
south.
The Battle of the Lands at this point had raged on for over two centuries.
Everywhere a young Prince David looked, he saw people smiling in merriment, enjoying every aspect
in which this triumphed had brought to the realm and his family s name. Smile boy . . . the blood of

The sun soon sets over the joyous night.
King Albert consumed his twenty drinks of the night. He burps, from drinking it so fast, and wipes the
remnants from his mouth. Ah, he muttered: remembering where he left off in his tale, about the final
hours of battle. The axes, swords, and arrows, sing and chop, through the air, making immediate
contact with their target. The combinations of beast, fire, water, wind, and strength, made the battle
scene a bloody feast for the eyes. He smiles, reenacting most of the fight scenes with his hands to a
captivated audience of one. King Talon and his men surrounded the Gregorian s first commander and
three of the king s sons . . . he paused abruptly, not wanting to reveal the goriest parts that would make
him appear more barbarian and less of a landowner fighting to reclaim what was rightfully his.
The king sets down his empty goblet on the table behind him and places both hands on Prince David s
shoulders. He squeezes it, trying to maintain his balance on his wobbly legs. The events of this night
have reminded me of the words my father said to me the same words his father said to him and his
father before him, and so on. It is about the burdens we as rulers must face when we begin our reign,
he slurs. His eyes are glassy and red from the stress of battle, partying, and his many sleepless nights.

Coraline Quotes
In the book Coraline Coraline goes through a plethora of stages starting from being a naïve child to
eventually evolving into a girl with a strong identity who is fully aware of who she is and proud of
who she has become. At the beginning of the book Coraline is your typical kid who is filled with
curiosity and an urge for exploration. This is best illustrated on page 26 when Coraline first ventures
into the alternate universe. Coraline went through the door; she wondered what the empty flat would
be like if that was where the corridor lead (Gaiman 26). Although Coraline is unaware of her
surroundings (due to the fact that she just moved there) this does not stop Coraline from being
adventurous and exploring the unknown. This act of Coraline going into the corridor while having no
idea where the corridor leads and without even thinking about the possible consequences of this action
shows Coraline s overall lack of maturity and her naive childlike ways. Before Coraline makes her
ultimate transition from naïve and fearless child to a brave, confident, and independent girl she further
displays her childlike ways by always having a strong desire to receive what she wants; and if she fails
to get what she wants she expresses her displeasure. This is clearly illustrated by two quotes in the
book. In the first quote Coraline is upset that her mother will not purchase a pair of gloves she likes.
Coraline saw some Day Glo green gloves she liked a lot. Her mother refused to buy

The Importance Of IT Risk Management Training Program
An appropriate IT risk management training program must above all be relevant to the skills required
to mitigate the kinds of risk to which an organization s critical information is exposed. A poorly
framed or overly generalized risk training program may fail to adequately prepare employees for real
world threats to an organization s critical IT infrastructure. It is with this in mind that the assignment
at hand seeks to explore training program requirements for an organization that deals with
information, both classified and unclassified, related to the United States defense. In order to complete
this assignment, it is important to conduct myriad steps, including to evaluate what available federal

Furthermore, compliance schedules for NIST security standards and guidelines are established by
OMB in policies, directives, or memoranda. Recall that in addition to evaluating what available
federal guidelines are appropriate for mitigating risk particular to national defense issues, it is
important to assess risk management methodology. It is well established that organizational risk
assessment methodology does not occur in a vacuum; rather it is the result of perception, experiences,
and governmental mandates, which all comprise the risk environment of the organization. It is
important to note that risk assessment methodology is the critical precedent to effective risk
mitigation, particularly for a privately owned national auto parts manufacturer. This process involves a
series of steps, depending on the appropriate strategy adopted for the particular risk situation facing an
organization. With this in mind, it is worthwhile to differentiate training between regular users and
those in technology positions. Consider the myriad roles within the government, it requires internal
technologies that are expansive, resulting in the development of an effective configuration

to help organizations, even small coffee shops, to better manage IT related mission risks, which

Introducing The Monarchy By 1 Samuel
Introducing the Monarchy
Introduction
1 Samuel presents Israel transformation from theocracy to monarchy as theological and sociopolitical.
Knut Heim mentions, Such transformation could not take place without stresses and conflicts. The
book of Samuel in general, and chaps. 8 15 in particular, reflect the tensions and ambiguities of these
transitional time. The Israel s request of a king is seen desperate and insistence to become like other
nations, due to internal and external crises. Of course, it was an evil thing to ask for because they were
the God s chosen people and God was their divine king. They are supposed to be different than other
nations. Nevertheless, God graciously gives them a king, Saul, who eventually fails but God s eternal
plan of kingship unfolds as he choses a king for himself in David.
Although 1 Samuel narrates the transition from theocracy, the judge, Samuel to a monarchial nation of
Israel, the narrator reminds that Yahweh was already their mighty king and who had also proven
himself trustworthy and also quite capable of calling out charismatic judges to lead the people in times
of emergency after all he is the God. The Israel nation was God s chosen people and under God s care
and divine kingship. In Samuel 7 we see obedience of Israel to God s appointed judge, Samuel, that
favored God s deliverance of Israel from the hands of Philistines. There is no doubt Israel had not seen
and experienced ultimate power of deliverance.

Effective Advocates For Small Business Utilization Essay
To be effective advocates for small business utilization in DoD acquisitions, Small Business
Professionals (SBPs) need to participate early in the acquisition process and throughout it, and become
trusted members of the team. To accomplish this, SBPs must be knowledgeable of pre and post award
support they can provide to the acquisition team, as well as how small businesses can help DoD meet
its procurement requirements. SBPs have the greatest influence during the pre solicitation phase of the
process. The social initiative is to be recognized as trusted advisors where they understand the
customer s requirements and are knowledgeable of small business programs. As an acquisition
sustainability strategy determines, SBPs should provide information on small businesses and how they
might meet the requirements. Reciprocity relates to the idea that people like to return favors and pay
back debts, which can lead to feeling obliged to repay an offer in some way to address discomfort with
feeling indebted to someone else. Commitment is associated with the desire to follow through on
something we ve expressed interest in previously. Social proof is linked to the idea that if others are
doing something we re more likely to do it as well, particularly when feeling uncertain. Liking
suggests that people are more likely to be influenced by people they like, which can come from
similarity, trust, and familiarity. Authority is associated with credibility; people are more likely to

Price, Product, Promotion, and Place
The Four P s of Marketing The four P s of marketing are product, price, place and promotion. Product
is a good or a service that is intended for the consumers based upon their wants or needs. Price is the
set price on the product. The price will depend on the targeted consumer, the economy, and the
location. Place is merely the location in which the company decides to distribute the product.
Promotion is the way the company decides to advertise their product to the public. (Griffin, Ebert,
2003).

Unlike the Xbox 360, Playstation included the new features, like Wi Fi, and the BluRay player into the

The PS3 was originally priced at $500, however their targeted consumers; previous users of the PS1 2,
could not afford the $500 (Sampei, Chang, Watanabe, Kim, Yoshigoe, Joon). Sony then had to rethink
their pricing strategy to include all consumers.
Promotion
Promotion or advertising is one of the most important parts of marketing a product. Sony has used
man methods of advertising the Playstation 3. Some of these methods they have used are television
commercials, newspaper articles, magazine articles, billboards, radio, mailers and advertisements
through collector s cups and other knickknacks. Sony s slogan for the PS3 is It Only Does Everything,
(Dille, 2010). The slogans along with the advertisements have grabbed the consumers attentions.
Place
Place is where the corporation or business decides to distribute their product. Sony has decided to
distribute the PS3 through major retail stores, such as Wal Mart, K Mart, Radio Shack, Circuit City,
Best Buy, Sears and many more. Sony has chosen these specific places for two reasons; one, because

In The Penal Colony
In the short story, In the Penal Colony by Franz Kafka, we are introduced to a horrible device that is
used to torture and execute prisoners. This apparatus does this by repeatedly writing the word of the
law that the condemned person had broken into their flesh like a bizarre tattoo artist made of pain and
blood. It is both sickening and fascinating to read the account of how this machine operates from the
character named the Officer as he describes in gross details just what this monster of metal does to
someone. But, why would Kafka write about these grisly details of blood and torn flesh? It was a
metaphor for what happens when a punishment system has lost sight of reform and justice. In this
paper, we will see how the machine is many metaphors of fear, injustice and what happens when a
justice system becomes one of torture and about how people can view the system and how it may
seem unfair to the common person about to face it. In the essay, Metaphors we live by Metaphors we
live by (Lakoff Johnson 2011), it states, Metaphor is for most people a device of the poetic
imagination and the rhetorical flourish a matter of extraordinary rather than ordinary language. (page
3) When an author takes pen in hand, they make art out of their words and take language and turn it
into many extraordinary things. By doing this, they can put hidden meaning or messages in the stories
they write. Sometimes this is to make a point about the political or social environment they see in

Silvia Plath s Daddy
Silvia Plath is an emotional writer, in her 1962 poem Daddy, she displays a complex set of emotions
and feelings. The poem Daddy is like the rest poems of Sylvia Plath s in a sense that they are dark, and
leaving the reader with a sense of hopelessness and despair, and this makes the reader question
himself why the author feels that way. The poem shows feelings of anger depression, and fear. This
short written poem will be analyzed on imagery, metaphor, and symbolism all these makes Sylvia

The author is using a Jew as a metaphor the reason is because her father s citizenship is Germany. She
is pointing out a resemblance between her father s treatment and preventing him of her to that of the
Germans attack on the Jewish people. The second metaphor that Plath uses is in the line where it says

China s Second Largest Travel And Tourism Economy After...
China is only flourishing as the years go by, and it is only going to continue to flourish because of the
way society is brought upon them. It is essential to know the importance of tourism and all the
positive and negative attributes it has to offer. China is the world s second largest travel and tourism
economy after the United States by 2015 , according to a new report from the World Travel Tourism
Council (WTTC). China s tourist appeal is very different from any other countries outside of East
Asia, offering a variety of things to do and places to visit. China is an exotic country with new sights
and experiences to enjoy, and has an extraordinary culture waiting for you to discover. English is
rarely spoken by locals, and seemingly everything about the culture is backwards from what you
know, but if you re up for the challenge, you ll be rewarded with a truly spectacular experience (Vans
Hinbergh). China is a very large country and with that, has many traditions and customs depending on
what geography and ethnicity you are located in the country. More than 1 billion people live in China,
according to the Asia Society, representing 56 ethnic minority groups. The largest group is the Han
Chinese, with about 900 million people (Zimmermann). It s a country that is rapidly developing new
architectures and quite frankly, losing a lot of its history to Western destruction and should be visited

The Meaning of Life and Death Essay
The Meaning of Life and Death The abstract idea of life cannot be explained by such simple ideas as
being animated, breathing, or speaking. Ordinary machines in this century can perform all of these
basic functions. The quandary with defining death is not as abstract and elusive as that of life. The
problem of defining life and death has plagued philosophers and the religious bodies for thousands of
years for one reason; each philosophy or religion has tried to define the meaning of life and death
from only their certain perspective. The seemingly appropriate approach to this problem would be to
understand the ideas presented in various philosophies and religions and through this knowledge
create a new definition for each idea of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The living have not yet been annihilated (otherwise they wouldn t be alive) (Cook). Also, according to
modern philosopher Steven Luper in an interpretation of Epicurus, death is also permanent non
existence , which is brought upon by some act of biological retirement . This applies to both humans
and replicants. Hereinafter, the deaths of humans and replicants should be considered one and the
same. The emphasis on death in Blade Runner can be attributed to many different reasons. One of
these reasons includes the search for a solution to its inevitable arrival. The prime objective of the
replicants in Blade Runner is to discover when they were created. To a human, this is common
knowledge, but the replicants are not given this information freely. Although, in contrast to the human
knowledge of when they were incepted or born, the replicants know the ultimate length of their life.
After Roy finally meets Tyrell, he is asked, What seems to be the problem? Roy answers, predictably,
death. Why is death such a problem to the replicants? The replicants do not actually have a problem
with death; they have a problem with the brevity of their life. This is why the replicants hope that their
creator, the person that gave them the time limit on their life, can extend it. This is similar to the hope
held by most humans of a life after death, but because the replicants know that there is no such life for
them after death,

Project Objectives Of Femtosecond Light Fields
Project objective and Excepted Significance:
This work aims to demonstrate petahertz optical field induced current signal control in electronic
nanocircuit utilizing synthesized femtosecond light fields. That promises an increase in the speed of
data processing and information encoding on rates that exceed 1 Pbit/sec, million times faster than the
current technology. It will likely extend the frontiers of modern electronics and information processing
technologies into the PHz realm. This work will have a broad impact on the advancements of
nanophotonics technologies, most notably in fiber based telecommunications networks and the
photonic computing field and opening a new realm of information technology.

The produced net charge can be detected by ammeter connected to the two electrodes. This
photoinduced current signal inside the nanocircuit is following the driver laser field instantaneously3

Experimental approach:
Light field synthesis. The PI is very capable to lead this project to the ultimate success. He engineered
and developed the unique LFS device (Fig. 1). Also, he demonstrated a full control of synthesizing
light field waveforms from the LFS with attosecond (10 18s) temporal resolution on demand in
(Nature 530, 66 70, (2016). The basic idea of the LFS apparatus (Fig. 1) is based on dividing a
supercontinuum laser light ( 2 octaves) into four different laser spectral channels. The laser pulse of
each channel is compressed to their Fourier limit (shortest duration) before all the pulses coherently
superimpose at the exit of the apparatus and forming one laser broadband short (2 fs) pulse. The
tailoring of the waveform at the exit is possible by controlling the relative phases and intensities of the
four spectral channels inside the synthesizer. This tailoring process is automatized to obtain the
desired waveform of the output electric field by a programming code developed by the PI1,2. This
unique device is

Increasing Population In Orange County
A census is an official count or survey of a population, typically recording various details of
individuals. The census is taken every couple years in order to get specific details about our
population. It helps to take into account the amount of people a certain town, city, or state may have as
well as their race, gender, and age percentage. The census is also used to calculate the amount of
people who live below the poverty line, as well as the wealthy. The data collected by the census not
only determines the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives, but also is
used to distribute billions in federal funds to local communities. These funds go towards schools,

Tropical Rainforest Biome The biome Tropical rainforest is an ecosystem that combines an equal
amount of sun, rain, and very warm temperatures. With this mixture it creates a very humid, almost
steamy atmosphere. It stays this way all year long, temperatures don t even alternate between day and
night. With all the humidity and moisture the precipitation rate is much higher than other places, The
yearly rainfall ranges from 80 400 inches. With this being the climate of this biome, it comes along
with unique plants and animals. There are approximately 10 million species of animals, plants, and
insects home to the tropical rainforest. Some of the many plant species include, epiphytes, bromeliads,
orchids, rubber tree and many more. Most of the trees and plants are used by man either for food or to

Gender Roles in Edward Albee s Who s Afraid of Virginia...
Though usually viewed as a violent play about turbulent marriages, Edward Albee s Who s Afraid of
Virginia Woolf? should be regarded as an early feminist text. Bonnie Finkelstein writes that the 1962
play portrays and analyzes the damaging effects of traditional, stereotypical gender roles, particularly
for women; the play serves to point out how unrealistic, useless and extraordinarily damning they
ultimately are.
Finkelstein notes that the 1963 publication of Betty Friedan s The Feminine Mystique unofficially
began a re evaluation of gender roles in the United States (Finkelstein 55). Friedan explores the idea
that women need more fulfillment in their lives than can be provided by the drudgery of childrearing

Indeed, the 1962 woman was not in tune with or even in charge of her own sexuality; according to

Are they using sex or sexual phantasy to fill needs that are not sexual? Is that why their sex, even

Torture and disappearances were not officially sanctioned, but were the inevitable excesses of war.
The statements from the Junta failed to convince the Argentine people not only because they knew that
it was false, but because the fate of the disappeared was of an overarching public concern. The
meaning of a disappeared as someone alive yet missing changed into someone dead yet unaccounted
for. Unlike in the case of the Holocaust, where the absence of proof of the death of millions of
concentration camps, the Argentine dirty war lacked such open ideological framework and visible
infrastructure of mass murder. The Argentine military always denied having the disappeared in secret
detention and thus nurtured a hope among relatives that was hard to abandon. Furthermore, the
political reality of an Argentina climbing out of years of authoritarianism did not allow for the public
acceptance of a presumption of death without the presence of a corpse. The continued demand for
truth demonstrates that personal and social traumas revolve around a search for the meaning of past
suffering. An individual may forget or not recall certain devastating experiences, but that does not

Police Enforcement Is An Evolving Agency Essay
Law enforcement has been an evolving agency just as many fields in the US. Most agencies have the
same goal, that is to prevent crime, investigate crime and apprehend criminals, maintain order, and
provide other miscellaneous services. The diversity in American cities is what makes law enforcement
unique, it has a huge impact and role as to how agencies operate with the citizens that live in those
communities. In the US police departments are more likely to use one of three or a combination of 3
police strategies: community policing, problem oriented policing and zero tolerance policing. With
that being said all of these serve a purpose and have negative and positives contributing effect onto
communities. Through my experience and knowledge I have learned from policing I would utilize a
combination of problem oriented policing and community policing if I were chief of police of a police
department. Although both styles of policing have their own goals and structures, problem oriented
policing seems to tie in with community policing. Utilizing these two styles would also help to bridge
the gap between the community and the police.
Community policing is a model of policing that stresses a two way working relationship between the
community and the police, in which the police become more integrated into the local community and
citizens assume an active role in crime control and prevention, as stated in the book The Police in
America. This concept of policing style involves

Functionalist Perspective on Dating, Courting, and Other...
Dating, courting, and other pre marriage arrangements are practices that are influenced by the time
period, social conditions and constructs, biology, cultural norms, and institutional structures that
surround people. Dating has changed a lot in the past century. In the 1920 s to 1940 s, dating involved
a more informal dating. For the first time there were no chaperones on dates between males and
females. The dates required no formal commitment to each other and there was more freedom.
Previously the community and church established the dating rules, but now peers institute the rules.

To understand dating, courting, and other pre marriage arrangements we must look at a particular time
and place to understand the ways in which a society works and therefore how the people in that
society go about activities like dating. In modern America, dating has emerged as an activity that is
not often regulated by adults as it once had been. There are many explanations for this change
including the change in lifestyle that industry and technological advances have brought about.
Sociologists point out that the idea of romantic love did not even exist prior to the industrial
revolution. Marriage was an institution that allowed a man and woman to enhance their chances of
survival and quality of life with one another. Romantic love as we now know it did not exist as a
concept. After the industrial revolution when people did not depend on each other as much to survive,
the idea of romantic love first appeared. After this time some feminists and sociologists point out that
marriage and motherhood was used to subjugate women to men and to keep them out of the work
force. Dating at a young age is characterized as fun and is done for companionship rather than as a
serious activity for the purpose of finding a lifelong mate. Group dating is a way in which students
have been able to move away from traditional, two person dating which implies intimacy to them.

Corporations Law
1.0 Areas of law
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has long been a touchy issue for governments not just in
Australia, but around the world as well. Companies in Australia are governed by the corporation s act,
which outlines the legal capacity and power of a company. The Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) s 57A1,
defines a corporation as a separate legal entity, that includes any corporate body and unincorporated
bodies that may sue, be sued or hold property in the name of an office holder appointed for that

will observe every activity conducted and how will it impact those other than the shareholders,

have to participate in a policy in which it is required to be publicized on its own website. Although it
may be contradicting to the directors best interest for the company, by spending an amount on
volunteering programs, such as the hunger project to help extinguish famine in poor countries, it also
helps the company to build a better image that in turn, could be advantageous to the directors.
4.0 Issues of importance
The push for company reporting to include CSR related information in annual reports is of utmost
importance, given the prominence of corporate influence in today s society. The recommendation to
implement triple bottom line reporting would increase the extent to which companies are taking
responsibility for the consequences of their actions, in relation to corporate activities that touch on
environmental or other issues of community concern13

The Horror Of The Zombie
Without question, in today s society the most favored monster in pop culture is the modern day
zombie. The symbolic nature of zombies alone, is the reason that the undead are the most successful in

life. These movies show us the result of an unknown situation; How will human beings react to an end

evolved to its modern state alongside the psychological state of society.
Zombies originated in Haiti from a belief that witch doctors could create a hypnotic slave through
magic, a potion, or hypnosis (Lockhurst). The zombie first appeared in White Zombie, a cinematic

low budget dictates a few moments worthy of MST3K ribbing. But the atmosphere of dread is
pungent, the use of sound is inspired, and the makeup by the great Jack Pierce and Carl Axcelle is
minimal but effective ( White). The box office produced different results than predicted by the critics.

name a few), as well as attempting to conquer the world. It is estimated that no less than ten million
casualties were a result of the Nazi agenda, out of combat (The History Place). Giving reference to the
question, in this essay I will outline and counterpoint two keys questions when regarding the
approaches of functionalists and intenationalists, firmly rooting them as the crux as my debate, which
are: Did Adolf Hitler have a so called master plan in bringing about the Holocaust, and where did the
initiative come from? I will now proceed to open the debate, by first giving a brief outline as both
approaches and what they encompass.
Arguably the best Historian to define what exactly functionalism and intentionalism is as a concept
relating to the Holocaust is that of the man who first used the terms functionalist and intentionalist ;

We Are Fascinated By Robots
People are fascinated by robots. Movies for many years have explored themes of humanity and
artificial intelligence, and at what point those two mix. Perhaps what is so interesting about these films
is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes something
human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie, I, Robot, asks
this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several moral theories. While
perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the very least, curious and
thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future where personal robots have
been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household, like the smart phones of today,
and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most people in the movie consider
these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that could do more harm or betray you
than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with suspicion. Because of an car crash where a
robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot calculated Spooner had a greater chance of
survival, the Detective distrusts all robots. Throughout the film, he is ridiculed for believing that
robots could be dangerous. They are all programmed with the Three Laws. Surely, with the Laws in
place, nothing can go wrong.
Spooner then meets a robot called Sonny, who

Descriptive Essay About My Cousin
It s mid July and I am determined to experience something completely new and get out of my comfort
zone one more time while I m on vacation, and although up to this point I have gone out more that I
should ve and met new people that I would ve never have talked to in my life, I m glad I was able to
do so. But that not the point of this story, let me get back on track. Many people don t know that I
have a cousin that is a year younger and looks exactly like me, it is kind of surreal to even look at and
process it, her name is Jessica but for short it has always been Jessi. Jessi being my exact replica has a
roundish ovalish face, brown eyes, quarter back length hair that is curly and a deep dark brown like
mine. Her and I go way back to when I could barely talk and she could begin to crawl. Anyway as we
grew up we had a sisterly bond and we will probably continue having that. And with that bond comes
many invitations to each other s events. We will go to each other s graduations, birthday parties, and in
this occasion I would be going to her school. Hey you should come to my school sometime, it will be
so fun and you can meet some of my teachers and friends! Jessica asked me one day after hanging out.
That would be so fun! But when would we do it? I respond casually but intrigued I m not for sure yet,
but I know that on Friday we are having a combibio (a get together of the whole school, where they
eat and 0dance) and there will be dancing and we don t really have

  • 2. Difference Between African American English Diverging From... African American English is diverging from Standard American English. As shown in Do You Speak American (2005), AAE originates from the time of the trans Atlantic slave trade. English was introduced to trade ports in Africa by colonialists, resulting in the creation of pidgin a mixture of English and African languages that is still in use today. More recently, African Americans who have moved from the South to the North have been more segregated, creating greater divergence between AAE and SAE. As many African Americans maintain ties to the South, such as continued contact with friends or family in the south, similarities between AAE and southern dialects remain. However, each group have selected features that are important, such as maintaining r in the North or keeping certain features as a way of preserving history, resulting in different dialect patterns between the North and the South to develop. It is arguable that African American English is a dialect of contemporary American English. While AAE is different and is easily distinguishable from Standard American English, the two dialects still share similarities and are forms of vernacular English. As AAE stems from and shares many linguistic patterns with Creole and other African languages, it is possible to argue that AAE is in fact not related to contemporary American English at all. However, I feel that the different influences on language are simple markers of regional variation and not enough to fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Household Circle Of India 1.The household circle in France and that of India display numerous similarities. However, it may be that such is the case in most countries where families are kept together. In India, distant relatives like grandparents and cousins either settle collectively or maintain a near distance if living separately. Indians are not as likely as Americans to relocate away from their families and, when it is economically possible, prefer to stay in the same geographic area. Though it seems that the French differentiate from that of my own culture due to that fact that they maintain relations with those of the enlarged household till the third or fourth generation. Also, on page 60 Au Contraire mentions that the extended kinsfolk gather together for a Sunday lunch. This is generally not seen in India as members of the lengthened household may reside adjacent to each other, but do not meet as often as the French. Nonetheless, as an Indian American, my society maintains most of the aspects of the Indian community and a little of the typical American culture. The French concept of the state of a young adult is similar to my cultural structure due to the fact that the youth gravitate to stay nearby parents until marriage in order to remain under their watchful eye and to refrain from an involvement of morally disliked activities. Randy Pausch, Speaking Skills Randy Pausch; Speaking Strengths By Amanda Apatow Communications Paper #2 February 28th 2012 When faced with the knowledge that you are about to do something you love for the last time, how would you react? When Randy Pausch, a virtual design professor at the University of Carnegie Mellon was given the diagnosis of liver cancer with only a few months to live, he knew that everything he did would be the last time he did it. Randy chose his last lecture to be an inspiring tribute to his life and the people who made it everything he wanted it to be. His incredible speech is delivered so full of life, that it is hard to imagine that he is practically walking to his deathbed. So besides his predicament, what made Pausch s speech so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So it is important to be direct and solid with your statements when you tell stories and give instructions. All of Randy s sorties and jokes were easy to understand and direct. Something that Pausch did that was very creative was his use of foreshadowing. The photo of him and his siblings on the Alice ride at Disney as a child connected well with the program he designed later in life as a professor. Furthermore, he made that it apparent to his audience that may not have originally seen the connection by stating it was a foreshadowing moment. By leaving the story open ended until a later time in his lecture, he captured the interest of people who didn t know him prior by intriguing them with a mystery. Then to people who did understand, it was a fun and heartwarming connection. The point of using foreshadowing and other organization techniques is to keep the brain occupied and attentive. Pausch does an excellent job of this. Despite Pausch s tragic diagnosis, the man stands strong with a positive outlook on life. His ability to be realistic about his condition commands respect while his lightheartedness gives shows us that he is at peace with his fate. Pausch involves the audience, speaking to them directly as if he is simply in an extensively long conversation. His jokes are sweet and good hearted. • 5. The Fifa World Cup Event The FIFA World Cup, as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world that comes around every four years, is often assumed by potential host countries as highly profitable. Current research, however, suggests that the economic growth experienced by these host nations due to the World Cup event is lower than the expectations they had. Specifically, a number of economists assert that no observable short term economic growth exists within the tourism, retailing, accommodation, and employment sectors of each one of the host countries (Allmers Maennig, 2009). As for the long term impacts, some scholars insist that the World Cup cannot boost the four sectors listed above (Baumann, Robert, Bryan Engelhardt, and Victor A. Matheson 2012), while others argue that other beneficial factors, that do not affect the host countries in the short term, generate economic profits for host countries in the long term (Maennig, 2009). Some scholars even critique this claim, however, arguing that the new factors won t bring profits to host countries. In my opinion, the World Cup seems to give the allusion that it will benefit the economy right away in the short run, but this not necessarily true. On the other hand it is beneficial to the host countries and the international economy in the long run, assuming that different factors are considered in the long term analysis. One thing is for sure though, that he shaped France/Europe into the continent/country is is today. Napoleon was very narcissistic and cruel, and did not value human life. At the same time, he believed in education and instruction. Also, he positively influenced the schools and created the Napoleonic Code, which solved a lot of France s problems. Napoleon s leadership, and role as emperor, was heavily based around the fact that all of his childhood was being trained in the military! Some people on the other hand, view this in a positive light (Being a good instructor, and knowing how to make the right moves with politics.) Millions of college graduates have student loan debts ranging from $50,000 to over $200,000. With debt like that and sluggish economic growth, it s no wonder that more than a million people defaulted on their student loans in 2016 alone. Sometimes, though, the problem isn t the debt or a person s salary. The problem is the way student loans get billed. Say a student transferred from one college to another then attended graduate school. She could be getting bills from three or more lenders every month. If you struggle to keep track of who you owe money to at what time, it s probably time for you to consolidate school loans. Let s jump in and look at some of the reasons why. Consolidate School Loans to Get One Interest Rate Student loans interest rates change from year to year. Congress sets them based on performance in the financial markets. Say you spent four years as an undergrad and six years in graduate school. That means you re paying student loans at ten interest rates. Coraline Quotes In the book Coraline Coraline goes through a plethora of stages starting from being a naïve child to eventually evolving into a girl with a strong identity who is fully aware of who she is and proud of who she has become. At the beginning of the book Coraline is your typical kid who is filled with curiosity and an urge for exploration. This is best illustrated on page 26 when Coraline first ventures into the alternate universe. Coraline went through the door; she wondered what the empty flat would be like if that was where the corridor lead (Gaiman 26). Although Coraline is unaware of her surroundings (due to the fact that she just moved there) this does not stop Coraline from being adventurous and exploring the unknown. This act of Coraline going into the corridor while having no idea where the corridor leads and without even thinking about the possible consequences of this action shows Coraline s overall lack of maturity and her naive childlike ways. Before Coraline makes her ultimate transition from naïve and fearless child to a brave, confident, and independent girl she further displays her childlike ways by always having a strong desire to receive what she wants; and if she fails to get what she wants she expresses her displeasure. The Israel s request of a king is seen desperate and insistence to become like other nations, due to internal and external crises. The Israel nation was God s chosen people and under God s care and divine kingship. • 26. The Meaning of Life and Death Essay The Meaning of Life and Death The abstract idea of life cannot be explained by such simple ideas as being animated, breathing, or speaking. Ordinary machines in this century can perform all of these basic functions. The quandary with defining death is not as abstract and elusive as that of life. The problem of defining life and death has plagued philosophers and the religious bodies for thousands of years for one reason; each philosophy or religion has tried to define the meaning of life and death from only their certain perspective. The seemingly appropriate approach to this problem would be to understand the ideas presented in various philosophies and religions and through this knowledge create a new definition for each idea of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The living have not yet been annihilated (otherwise they wouldn t be alive) (Cook). Also, according to modern philosopher Steven Luper in an interpretation of Epicurus, death is also permanent non existence , which is brought upon by some act of biological retirement . This applies to both humans and replicants. Hereinafter, the deaths of humans and replicants should be considered one and the same. The emphasis on death in Blade Runner can be attributed to many different reasons. One of these reasons includes the search for a solution to its inevitable arrival. The prime objective of the replicants in Blade Runner is to discover when they were created. To a human, this is common knowledge, but the replicants are not given this information freely. Although, in contrast to the human knowledge of when they were incepted or born, the replicants know the ultimate length of their life. After Roy finally meets Tyrell, he is asked, What seems to be the problem? Roy answers, predictably, death. Why is death such a problem to the replicants? The replicants do not actually have a problem with death; they have a problem with the brevity of their life. This is why the replicants hope that their creator, the person that gave them the time limit on their life, can extend it. This is similar to the hope held by most humans of a life after death, but because the replicants know that there is no such life for them after death, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The laser pulse of each channel is compressed to their Fourier limit (shortest duration) before all the pulses coherently superimpose at the exit of the apparatus and forming one laser broadband short (2 fs) pulse. The tailoring of the waveform at the exit is possible by controlling the relative phases and intensities of the four spectral channels inside the synthesizer. This tailoring process is automatized to obtain the desired waveform of the output electric field by a programming code developed by the PI1,2. This unique device is ... In modern America, dating has emerged as an activity that is not often regulated by adults as it once had been. There are many explanations for this change including the change in lifestyle that industry and technological advances have brought about. Sociologists point out that the idea of romantic love did not even exist prior to the industrial revolution. Marriage was an institution that allowed a man and woman to enhance their chances of survival and quality of life with one another. Romantic love as we now know it did not exist as a concept. After the industrial revolution when people did not depend on each other as much to survive, the idea of romantic love first appeared. After this time some feminists and sociologists point out that marriage and motherhood was used to subjugate women to men and to keep them out of the work force. Perhaps what is so interesting about these films is the question humans have been asking themselves for thousands of years, what makes something human? Or even, What makes someone sentient ? It s an intriguing thought. The movie, I, Robot, asks this question, but it also explores something called the Three Laws , and several moral theories. While perhaps it doesn t answer any of the queries it brings up, the film is at the very least, curious and thought provoking. The movie I, Robot is set in the vaguely near future where personal robots have been integrated into society. These robots are in most every household, like the smart phones of today, and they are being designed to look increasingly human. While most people in the movie consider these robots as laptops or iPods that is, a piece of machinery that could do more harm or betray you than a toaster could a Detective Spooner regards them with suspicion. Because of an car crash where a robot rescued him instead of a young girl, as the robot calculated Spooner had a greater chance of survival, the Detective distrusts all robots.
