The paper examines the optimization of turning parameters in mild steel turning operations using the Taguchi method, focusing on cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut to achieve low surface roughness. Experiments determined that cutting speed is the most significant parameter affecting surface roughness, with the optimal combination identified as 190 rpm cutting speed, 0.044 mm/rev feed, and 0.2 mm depth of cut. The study emphasizes the importance of surface quality in manufacturing for customer satisfaction and cost reduction.
