The Advent of Imperialism Essay
The Advent of Imperialism
We live in a world today in which the consequences of nineteenth century Western imperialism are
still being felt. By about 1914 Western civilization reached the high point of its long standing
global expansion. This expansion in this period took many forms. There was, first of all,
economic expansion. Europeans invested large sums of money abroad, building railroads and
ports, mines and plantations, factories and public utilities. Trade between nations grew greatly and
a world economy developed. Between 1750 and 1900 the gap in income disparities between
industrialized Europe and America and the rest of the world grew at an astounding rate. Part of this
was due, first, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Competition for trade, superior military force, European power politics, and a racist belief in
European superiority were among the most important. Some Europeans bitterly criticized
imperialism as a betrayal of Western ideals of freedom and equality.
Western imperialism produced various reactions in Africa and Asia. The first response was simply
to try to drive the foreigners away. The general failure of this traditionalist response then led large
masses to accept European rule, which did bring some improvements. A third response was the
modernist response of Western educated natives, who were repelled by Western racism and
attracted by Western ideals of national independence and economic progress. Thus, imperialism and
reactions to it spread Western civilization to non Western lands.
The great test of Western Imperialism is Asia, where vast peoples live, the inheritors of
civilisations as complex as our own, more ancient and more firmly rooted by enduring custom in
the general life. The races of Africa it has been possible to regard as savages or children,
backward in their progress along the same general road of civilisation in which Anglo Saxondom
represents the vanguard, and requiring the help of more forward races. It is not so easy to make a
specious case for Western control over India, China, and other Asiatic peoples upon the same
ground. Save in the more recent

Speech On Stay At Home Mother
Celebrating the stay at home mothers
Team ParentCircle
Teaser: What do you do all day is a question that puts every stay at home mother on the edge.
Contrary to the widespread belief, SAHMs do much more than meets the eye. Read on to know
more.
How many times have you heard the term, just a mom? Stay at home mothers, especially in the
current era, get bad press. From binge watching soaps to lazing around all day, people are quick to
point fingers at the humble homemakers. I have been a SAHM for more than five years (and I
will not trade it for all the world!) so, I am not new to such eye rolling and prejudice.
But, here s the real deal. A SAHM works all the time: 24/7 with no breaks or leaves all for no pay
and very little appreciation. She is a multitasker who dons many hats from being a personal chef to
doctor on call to finance expert to an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to your child.
It is not what you are; it is who you are
Your most valuable parenting skill is learningto manage yourself first. Dr Laura Markham
The stress and depression a SAHM goes through are real and sometimes debilitating. However, if
you re seeking approval from others to feel good, you re only asking for trouble. Happiness starts
from within you. Similarly, only you have the power to assess your self worth. Whether you stay
at home or choose to go to work, embrace the fact that parenting is hard work.
Your Takeaway: Get up and dress up every morning. Aim to get out of the house every day. For a
few moments every week, go out with our friends or to pursue your own interests. Get involved in
your community to feel a sense of achievement.

Code Of Conduct And The Department Of Homeland Security
Goods and/or Services to be Provided
To help with rising number of people illegally entering the United States from Mexico, the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) decided it needed better surveillance along its borders.
It has made a decision to award a contract to See All Surveillance Technologies, a contractor that
supplies high tech surveillance products. See All Surveillance Technologies will be providing the
DHS with the construction of watch towers along the border of Mexico and the states of Texas and
Arizona.
The towers, which are pre fabricated, will be strategically placed along these borders according to
the terrain. They will be equipped with high tech cameras, day and night vision goggles, and ground
penetrating radar. See All Surveillance Technologies will also train the personnel who will be
working the towers, how to operate the surveillance equipment.
Raytheon Code of Conduct
A code of conduct is a tool used by management to implement an organization s values, duties, and
ethical standards. According to the Ethics Resource Center, a code of conduct is a written set of
guidelines and a point of reference used to support day to day decision making. It clarifies the
mission, values and principles of an organization to ensure professional and ethical standards are
withheld (Why Have a Code of Conduct, 2009). A code of conduct offers guidance on how to deal

The Emergence and Africanization of Catholic Christianity...
The Emergence and Africanization of Catholic Christianity in the Kongo
When the nation of Kongo converted to Christianity around the turn of the 16th century, the
Catholicism that developed over the next century is best understood as primarily a superficial
layer added onto Kongolese traditional religion. The kings of Kongo did not try to replace previous
beliefs and practices with Christianity, nor did they simply mask their traditional religion, but rather
they incorporated Christian doctrines, rituals, and some aspects of Portuguese Christian culture such
as literacy and medicine, into the framework of the traditional Kongolese lifestyle. Three ways by
which we can evaluate the Catholicism that developed in the kingdom of ... Show more content on

Afonso s faith cannot be reprimanded based on his complaining about Portuguese abuses in the
slave trade, or rejecting the Portuguese suggestion to amend the traditional system of taxation and
distribution of government grants, or asking Rome to allow dispensations for polygamy, the
ordination of natives, and the creation of a separate Diocese. The conclusion we may draw from
these acts is not that Afonso was a bad Christian, but that he intended for the introduction of
Christianity to strengthen his sovereignty rather than weaken it. In this way, he is like European
monarchs, but the Christianity he adopts and promotes in his nations is not European Christianity.
It seems more likely that, as Baladier has argued, Christianity was adopted fundamentally as a
source of ngolo, or power, which placed it in a political context ...Christianity was conceived as a
supplementary method of reinforcement, not as a religion exclusive of the old beliefs.
That Afonso s Christian faith was inclusive of tradition religion, and that it was subordinate to, and
often used to further, his political ambitions, does not necessitate that it was insincere. Nor does the
sincerity of Afonso s faith determine the extent to which

President Bush was open to progressing minority groups but he made few attempts to change the
conservative direction of the past civil rights policies. Actual change did not come about until
Clinton s presidency when he gave several apologies to minority groups who had been
discriminated against and mistreated by American society and government throughout history. He
publicly honored 9 black students who led the effort for segregation in the public schools in 1957.
Clinton s main goals during his presidency was to create a unified and integrated society that
allowed harmony between races. His reformist outlook allowed great improvements to be made in
the decade; however, unity had not been achieved yet.
Despite hip hops popularity in our culture during the 1980 s many people disagreed with its
messages and how it portrayed black youths. Many artist struggled with being good role models for
African American youths. Money and fame got the best of most artists but the popularity of
gangster life portrayed in hip hop was frowned upon. There was no turning back though for their

Sociological Explanations Of Prejudice Essay
From birth, we are culturally conditioned by prejudice, this is due to several factors some of which
are the media, our family, as well as our friends. Prejudice refers to our attitude towards others,
whether it be their race, sex, religion, etc. Prejudice tends to evolve into discrimination over time,
discriminationbeing the negative behavior we show towards others. By the age six and seven,
children are beginning to notice differences in skin color, as well as observe the ways in which
people s lives differ. Often times a child s view is persuaded or shaped by the stereotypes of the
adults around them. Some adults may not consider how their views and their words may impact
the way a young child sees the world. For an example, take a child raised into a wealthy family,
whose parents tend to vocalize their negative opinions of the middle class, this child is likely to
obtain the same prejudice over time. In the same aspects, a child from a less fortunate family
whose parents are unable to afford the nicer luxuries in life, may grow to form their own prejudice
out of jealously. Seeing others who are able to do more or afford more, may cause this child to feel
resentment towards those who are better off. Feeling bitter, as though they have been treated
unfairly, and that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over time the social lines may tend to blur between what is and isn t acceptable. People may
throw out what is morally right and go with what they believe to be true. Such as, a brother of a
soldier killed in combat may grow in their dislike of the opposing nationality, racially stereotyping,
considering them all to be the same. The brother then conforms to and may even act out in
discriminative or violent ways. This prejudice is likely already rooted in him since childhood,
although the loss of the brother sets this behavior into

Failing is a part of life that everyone will go through, but only a few will accept it. Going through
failures multiple times will eventually lead to a superb success. I strongly know that failing will
change a person because failing will lead to other opportunities and will help an individual obtain
more knowledgeon what to do next. For example, starting my freshman year of high school, I
decided to join Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC). I was unsure about
entering a program that offered an abundant package. I mentally thought that being in a program
will help me better understand myself as a person. At first, everything

I moved away from the cold window and tied my hair up. The house was lonely but the warmth

Feminism Is The Belief Of Political, Economic And Social...
Feminism by: Laura CapellГЎn
Feminism is the belief in political, economic and social equality of the sexes and is one of the
leading conflicts in today s society. In the past years, women had faced many battles to fight and
give these rights to women who have been deprived of their rights and privileges that were never
given to them by men. I believe that every person is entitled to have equal opportunities in this
world. Feminism has proven to slowly accomplishing this. Even if it meant hurting the people that
you love. The Victorian Era came change. This caused conflicts between right and wrong for a
women during this time. Feminism took a huge role in the roaring twenties that no one saw coming.
For example a new woman was born , which I believe is huge part of the feminists movements,
instigating many changes to the societies to come. Starting a different stereotype for women.
Before the twenties, the typical women would be what people consider today to be stay at home
mom . The women would stay home while the men worked; that meant cleaning, cooking, taking
care of the kids, and doing whatever is necessary to please the standards of their husbands. Many
women had carry the expectations that were held by their mothers. I disagree with the typical
women during this time because I believe that a women should be independent without being tied
down by a man.
Another example, women started to make changes for the better. Believing that they could

Female Characters Of The Novel Dracula
Throughout the Victorian period in which Dracula was written, there was great concern over the
roles of women, and the place they held in society. The two central female characters in Dracula
are Mina Murray, later Mina Harker, and Lucy Westenra, though arguably Dracula s three
daughters also hold a strong place in terms of female characters in the novel also.
One of the main depictions of women in the novel is that are either both sexually promiscuous and
overtly sexual, or they are pure and chaste. In Victorian society, you were either a virgin or a
married woman, if women were neither then they were not of much moral worth to society. Much
like this Victorian ideal, the overtly promiscuous and sexual females of Draculaare depicted as evil
and monstrous, while the pure and chaste women are displayed as strong and heroic.
The character of Mina Murray, whom starts the novel as a young school headmistress that is
engaged to one of the novel s narrators, Jonathan Harker. Throughout the novel, Mina is depicted
as the ideal Victorian woman. Take what Dr. Van Helsing says of Mina in chapter fourteen,
She is one of God s women, fashioned by His own hand to show us men and other women that
there is a heaven where we can enter, and that its light can be here on earth. So true, so sweet, so
noble, so little an egoist... (Stoker 2002: 198)

Comparing the Personalities of the Writers, Dante and Chaucer
Even though Dante and Chaucer never met, Dante having died 19 years before Chaucer was
born, Dante inadvertently became Chaucer s life long mentor. Dante s severe spirit turned out to
be far more harsh than Chaucer s nature, however Dante s protГ©gГ©, Boccaccio, became one
of Chaucer s greatest inspirations. Looking back at both Dante and Chaucer s works, experts now
see striking similarities in their writing. Whether Chaucer ever meant to use Dante s materials or
not, he is now closely compared with his contrary counter part. The original purpose of this paper
was to tell how closely related Chaucer s writing was to Dante s, however, a closer look at the man,

These experiences made Dante quickly realize that this world is corrupt to the core. Greed for
material things is the main fault, greed which is allowed to dictate the actions of men. Only a
cessation of strife, the establishment of universal peace can ensure the happiness of mankind
and allow men to pursue the ultimate aim for which God has destined them on earth, that of
exercising constantly and to the full their distinctive quality, the Virtus Intellective (virtuous
intellect) (Limentani,117). He believed that life on this earth was for a purpose and had
meaning to it this can be seen in the Inferno because Dante is working to make his journey
purposeful. He travels so far and tries so hard to work his way up to heaven. Chaucer stands in
contrast to Dante s almost dogmatic piety and looks to other things as purposeful in his life.
Chaucer s views of life come from a very political point of view. He was introduced to court life
while still in his teens, becoming a page to one of the kings daughter in laws. From there he rose
in status until he was promoted to the rank of esquire. Though he was exposed to political plots
and war Chaucer exhibit s a lust and compassion for life that completely eludes Dante s works.
While he was easy going and generally sympathetic to others Chaucer was nothing of a typical
idealist. While Dante searched for ways to better the world by destroying chaotic war and hate,
Chaucer was content to let the world

Essay on Compare and Contrast Two Leadership Styles
Leadership can be defined as the ability to lead a group of people successfully in an organization.
Hall, et al (2008) have mentioned that an effective leader has to be visionary, motivating and
responsible in order to successfully run a business organization. In business the two key leadership
styles, which are widely used in today s corporate world are autocratic leadershipand democratic
leadership (Johnson, n.d.). Autocratic leadership may be explained as a leadership style where the
manager sets objectives, allocates tasks and insists on obedience (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 401).
Conversely, democratic leadership encourages participation in decision making (Hall, et al 2008
p.g 402). Whilst many people would consider autocratic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leader must be able to explain ideas clearly to employees and understand any feedback they
receive (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 402). Though rate of production with a democratic style of leadership
might be slower than in an autocratic due to low supervision, it could be disputed that workers can
work more freely as there is less stress to perform.
A further aspect of leadership, which can also be believed to have a direct link with communication,
is decision making. Both leadership styles are similar in the way that ideas need to be stored
before making a business decision. In an autocratic work place decisions are made independently
with little or no input from the rest of the group (Riley, 2012 n.p.). However, in a democratic
society employees have greater involvement in decision making (Riley, 2012 n.p.). Both these
types of leadership have their benefits and disadvantages with respect to decision making. In his
research on different types of leadership, Joseph, (n.d.) stated that autocratic leadership style could
be effective in a business environment as decisions can be made quickly without consulting with
workers. According to Cherry, (n.d.) this type of leadership would be advantageous in situations
such as the military where decisions need to be taken quickly. Though quick decision making can
be beneficial, it could be argued that it can lead to a demotivated workforce. Employees motivation

Geothermal Energy Is Heat Energy Coming From The Earth
1. Introduction
Geothermal energy is heat energy coming from the Earth. Geothermal energy is relatively cost
effective, reliable, and friendly to the environment, but is limited to some specific areas. Recent
technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of geothermal energy resources.
Now the geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use
potential for the resource. Although, tapping geothermal energy will release some gas pollution
which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are much lower than those of
fossil fuels. Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce air
pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of the earth.
California, with its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, has great potential of geothermal energy,
which can easily meet the consumption of electricity for 100,000 residents. According to EIA [1],
the monthly average consumption per person is 557kWh, we can get,
Total Capacity = (557 Г—12 kWh/yearГ—100,000)/(365 Г—24 Г—0.92h/year) = 83 MW
Therefore, our geothermal power plant capacity is 83MW.
2. Resource Definition
2.1 Resource Type
The heat of earth provide us the geothermal energy. The heat can exist in the shallow ground, as
well as hot water or hot rocks a few miles away from the earth s surface. To go deeper, there will
be extremely hot magma [2]. Usually, volcanic activity and seismic effects can produce geothermal
energy [3].

Ransom By David Malouf Analysis
Grief can play with one s mind twisting and manipulating one to not be the same person they
used to be, while grief can also change one for the better. In the book, Ransom, by David
Malouf, Hector kills Achilles friend, Patroclus, so Achilles kills Hector. Priam wants to see his
son one last time so he makes a plan to get to him. Somax takes Priam on a carriage to go find his
son Hector. They have some troubles along the way, but they eventually get to Priam s son. Priam
brings Hector back to Troy and Hector is buried. In Ransom by David Malouf, the author teaches
the reader the power of grief through the experiences of Priam and Achilles. Grief can be a
controlling force, it can cause and individual to change as a person, and grief can strongly
influence one s actions. The sorrow from the loss of a loved can be burdensome and can take a
toll on one and their family. Priam explains to Hecuba, It is eleven days now since Hector s death
and we have done nothing, all of us, but weep and sit stunned with grief (Malouf 50). Priam s
family is depressed over the loss of their son Hector. It controls their emotions and the way they
think of their life now, moving on without Hector. While Priam is talking with Deiphobus, Priam
lowers his head. When he raises it again his look is grave but his eyes, for all the power of
emotion in him are dry (Malouf 84). Priam is having a difficult time coming to terms that Hector is
actually gone, so he is overcome with multiple emotions.

Trader Joe was established in 1967 in Pasadena, California where they were known for selling all
types of California wine and different Trader Joe over the cross of the years learn to develop a
new way of running their grocery store chain. The company developed a concept that allowed
their company to set themselves apart from other major companies. Owner Joe Coulombe
believe in a nirvana when it came to running his business. He felt that if you provided a limited
amount of a particular item that it helps customers narrow their decision process making them
more likely to keep purchasing from that particular location. By narrowing a customer s choice
Mr. Coulombe was able provide his customers with fresh produce from local farmers. It takes
them out of the purchasing process and puts them into a decision making process, explains Stew

The Government s Combat On Copyrights Infringement
Abstract As China rose to become one of the world s largest trading partners following its accession
to the WTO, the country also began to face intense pressure from the international community to
abide by standards on intellectual property rights. Specifically, China has strengthened its legal
framework and amended its IPR laws and regulations to comply with the WTO Agreement on Trade
Related Intellectual PropertyRights (TRIPS). Copyrightprotection is one area that China has made
great progress in especially in the entertainment industry. With China s economy booming, China is
consuming an increasing amount of TV shows. However, China s TV industry suffers from a

The firm estimated that China s online video revenue increased 41.9 percent in 2013, reaching
about $2 billion. In contrast, China s traditional TV industry has suffered a sharp decline. In 2012
only 30% of households in Beijing watched TV, down from 70% three years earlier (The
Economist, 2013).
However, the gains from the expanding industry come with high costs. Avoiding licensing costs
from foreign production companies, many Chinese Internet video companies had become a haven
for illicit American shows and hit South Korean soap operas. The illegal distribution of foreign
content on these websites was an undoing to China s endeavor to ascent to a strong intellectual
property country. Amidst criticisms from the right holders in the international community, China
has tightened its regulations against copyright infringement on online video streaming websites.
Another rationale behind the government s commitment to fighting copyright piracy is to protect
domestic TV stations against the rampant popularity of foreign TV shows online. The Chinese
government hopes that through an enforcement of IPR, China s TV industry will see a reduce in
the invasion of foreign TV shows due to high licensing costs and thus an increase in the production
of domestic popular ones. Through a careful analysis of the legal framework and measures the

Go Set A Watchman, By Harper Lee
Prompt #5 In the book Go Set A Watchman , Dr. Finch said not much more than 5% of the South
ever saw a slave, much less owned one. to Jean Louise. This statement brings the idea of slavery
away from the racist views which are clearly present in characters like Dr. Finch and Grady O
Hanlon. Although the validity of this statement is questionable, the impact slaveryhad on society in
this country is clear. Slavery impacted many aspects of society, including the people of Maycomb,
the views of the Southern/Northern states, and racial tension in today s society.
The statement made by Dr. Finch was, in fact, inaccurate. When you look at the results of the 1860
census, you see that the overall percent of families owning slaves is only 8% in the United States as
a whole(CivilWar.net). However, in his statement from the book, he specifically said not much
more than 5% of the South ever saw a slave, much less owned one. The keywords in this
statement were South and Saw . Both of these words can be disproved by the 1860 census. If
you were to look at the different states separately, you would see that almost all southern states
were at or above 25% when looking at families who own slaves. This proves that much more than
5% of the south owned slaves. However, if you were to look at the data as a whole, you would
be mislead by thinking this 8% was a representation of the south. This is most likely what Dr.
Finch s error was when saying this. This is why I do believe that

Girl Scouts Research Paper
The twentieth century in comparison to today is drastically different. Even when it comes to small
things like Girl Scouts! As history goes on Girl Scouts has continued to progress as well. A small
group that was formed over one hundred years ago has grown into a global movement, in over
ninety two countries. GirlScouts is a very different female program than it was in the twentieth
century because the cookies and other products have changed, the uniforms are different, and
there are many new levels in girl scouts. The cookies that are sold in girl scouts have changed,
some are new, some are gone, and some even have a different name. In 1956, Girl Scouts only

girls that were in kindergarten, rather than just teen girls (Girl Scouts of the USA p.1). Over
one hundred years ago, a big difference was made when levels and troops were created and

The uniforms of girl scouts are very different than they were over one hundred years ago. Many

Fallen Condition Focus
B. Fallen Condition Focus
1. There is a sharp opposition between the flesh and the Spirit a felt tension. Life according to the
desires of the flesh (e.g. the self centered appetites and ambitions) leads to slavery, destruction, and
death (e.g. addiction).
C. Gospel Response
1. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus we have been forgiven of our sins past, present, and
future and afforded new life along with freedom and fruitfulness in the Holy Spirit. We ( flesh ) have
been crucified with Christ and it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us by faith
through the Holy Spirit so that we do not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal. 2:20; 3:14, 4:6 7,
5:16, 24).
D. Missional Analysis
1. Non Christians lean towards the perspective that what you do does not matter as long as it does
not hurt others. We ve all heard it, Why does it matter? Who are they hurting? For them, addiction
is addiction until someone is being hurt. However, by this point the hurt has already taken a deep
root, and the addictive behavior is merely an outward reflection of the inter turmoil it is only the tip

Price Competition In T-Mobile, AT T, Sprint, And Verizon
The industry I ve selected is the cellular phone service industry. This industry s market structure
is an oligopoly, meaning that a few large firms control the market. Four main firms, T Mobile, AT
T, Sprint, and Verizon dominate the cell phone service industry. Although the four firms compete
against one another, they typically avoid price competition in order to avoid price wars that
decrease profits for all. Instead, they use other tactics, such as advertising and improved customer
service to gain a higher demand in the market. Price wars occur due to the interdependence of
firms involved in an oligopolistic market structure. A decision made by one firm to increase or

Social Class Status Of A Child s Parents Essay
Introduction Annette Lareau is the author of Unequal Childhoods, she study African Americans
and white families to understand the impact of how social class makes a difference in family life,
specifically the children lives. This book talks about how the social class will determine how
children will use their cultivate skills in the future. Through her research, she finds the differences
in the parenting styles of twelves families, which all the kids was in the third grade. While reading
the book Lareau found that middle classparents practice concerted cultivation, and working class
and poor parents practice accomplishment of natural growth.
Summary
Reading this book shows how social class status of a child s parents matters. One of the big issues
was how it matter in school success. Chapter 1 talks about the difference between Concerted
Cultivation and the Accomplishment of Natural Growth. Concerted Cultivation is a middle class
child rearing technique they use on a child to improve their child talents. The middle class parents
use this technique to schedule activities for their child. Parents also practice language with their
child. Middle class parents let their child find agreement with them. Lareau states that middle class
parents also takes more consideration with authorities that are associated with their children. For
example, when a parent is not comfortable with the teacher s way of teaching, middle class parents

The House On A Rainy Day And Lucy
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie are four siblings sent to live in the country with the
eccentric Professor Kirke during World War II. The children explore the house on a rainy day and
Lucy, the youngest, finds an enormous wardrobe. Lucy steps inside and finds herself in a strange,
snowy wood. Lucy encounters the Faun Tumnus, who is surprised to meet a human girl. Tumnus
tells Lucy that she has entered Narnia, a different world. Tumnus invites Lucy to tea, and she

never Christmas. Tumnus explains that he has been enlisted to capture human beings. Lucy
implores Tumnus to release her, and he agrees.
Lucy exits Narnia and eagerly tells her siblings about her adventure in the wardrobe. They do not

as she claims. When the Pevensie children look in the back of the wardrobe they see that it is an
ordinary piece of furniture. Edmund teases Lucy mercilessly about her imaginary country until one
day when he sees her vanishing into the wardrobe. Edmund follows Lucy and finds himself in

Poems In Those Winter Sundays, By Robert Hayden
Poems are a style of story telling, of writing, but they are also an art form. The writers of these
tales use many methods to add spectacular drama to every day experiences. Twisting the meaning
of words allows the authors to vividly paint a portrait of the moment they re capturing. In Robert
Hayden s Those Winter Sundays , Hayden uses simple words to paint a detailed picture in only a
few lines. He shows us not only the bleakness of winter, but highlights how small, daily acts of love
are easily forgotten.
We open the poem on a weekend, a Sunday. A day that for most of us is used for leisure,
religion, and time with our loved ones. Hayden says, Sundays to my father got up early / and put
his clothes on in the blueblack cold, (768). The use of blueblack conveys how severe the cold
was in their home. Images of pain are brought to mind, like the blue and black of a deep bruise. His
father woke early, and left his warm bed, to fight the deep chill for his family. A labor of love that
for which No one ever thanked him. (Hayden 768).
I d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. (Hayden 768). In this line Hayden gives the
winter s cold a more definitive, physical presence. You can imagine his father s fierce fighting
breaking through a thick layer of ice; his labor and love forcing back the threat to his family. The
way that you might see a superhero break through a brick wall, his father used his cracked hands
that ached (Hayden 768), to aggressively fight back

Wooden crates are easy to prepare; whether from a set design or perhaps a customized design specs
by a customer.
Disadvantages
Unfortunately, there are some disadvantages of wood based crates for shipping. Wood needs to be
treated. The finished product when the crate is all put together is too heavy, requires lifting
equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts or even cranes, they can even become a safety risk to
employees handling the crates because of splinters and concerns with handling to get inside. Wood
also sometimes has a smell to it that can be bad for the products that are inside. Wood has been
used for centuries for crafting. Wood based shipping containers are used to gather, store, shipand
protect consumer goods.
Paper based
As time changes, paper and paper based packaging have become key components in today society.
Communication, food, and consumer products are just a few of the things that are improved upon
and more easily accessible as a result of paper and paper based packaging (American Forest and

Introduction:
GABAA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) receptors are the main inhibitory neurotransmitter receptors
in the mammalian brain. Although these receptors have been found in other parts of the body like
liver9, smooth airway muscles of the lungs10, and several type of immune cells11,12, their main
function comes in the nervous system, specifically neurons. The GABAA receptors located in the
postsynaptic membrane are stimulated by GABA neurotransmitter released from the pre synaptic
neurons and functions to inhibit neuronal stimulation in the short term (millisecond time range),
while the extrasynaptic GABAA receptors are stimulated by ambient GABA in the extracellular
space and confers long term inhibition.2 However, there are many types of GABAA receptors

Cys loop receptors are characterized by pentameric ligand gated ion channels. Some other members
of this superfamily are nicotinic acetylcholine (nACh), 5 hydroxytryptamine (type 3, 5HT3) and
glycine receptors 1, 2 and 3. nACh receptors and 5HT3 receptors contain cation selective channels
that depolarize or excite neurons, whereas GABAA/B receptors and glycine receptors contain anion
selective channels that, in most cases, hyperpolarize or inhibit neurons. Exception occurs during
early postnatal development when these channels are excitatory.5, 3 Neuropathic pain can occur if
these channels become excitatory in adults.16 The unique feature of GABA receptors that
distinguish it from other cys loop receptors is its activating ligand GABA (or accurately Оі

But what fundamental necessities do rich schools posses that money could provide for poor
schools? Besides the obvious needs of the extremely needy schools: repairs to the building
(proper plumbing, roofing and walls to name a few) and basic supplies (such as books, paper,
computers and laboratory tools), the school also needs money in less obvious areas. With more
money at its disposal a school can purchase more space and teachers. It has been proven that
students learn better (and teachers can teach better) when the class size is limited to under twenty
four. This is not possible without financing for a larger school and more teachers to accommodate
all the students. A school with larger funds also has the capability to choose better administrators
and faculty from a greater selection (they are not limited to those applicants in lower pay
brackets). In the case of a Canton Middle School in Baltimore an excellent principle made all the

Methods Of Aggressive Accounting By Issuing Financial...
Facts
Several companies have performed methods of aggressive accounting by issuing financial
statements to exaggerate their value. Either over inflating revenues, assets or cash flows, or
understating any debts and expenses are examples of this type of fraud. These accounting swindles
allow companies to have an efficient public appearance to investors and potential creditors.
Nevertheless, according to a recent journal article from (Chen Huang, 2013), these deceitful
activities led to abnormal stock returns and unfavorable open market purchases and repurchases.
The statements from the financial disclosures were so unclear, yet seemed too good to be true.
Consequently, a wide number of corporations received complaints from investors under the regards
of the published financial statements. Nonetheless, these inaccuracies, whether reported or
unreported, led corporations to go into debt with both creditors and investors.
One major instance of this occurrence is the Enron Bankruptcy. In the case of Enron Corporation,
the accountants hid most of its debt, expenses and liabilities from the world. Some transactions and
forms of debt were also not reported at fair value. Accountants and managers considered these duties
as legal between the 1990s and early 2000s since it was not against the GAAP (Generally Accepted
Accounting Principles). Furthermore, according to the article, Enron ten years later: Lessons to

The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara Essay
In a letter to the reader, Michael Shaara states that his purpose is similar to Stephen Crane s in
The Red Badge of Courage. He wishes to display history not as cold facts, but rather in such a way
that the reader can live the history. This is to be accomplished through extensive detail of the
emotions of the men, the atmosphere of the battle, and strategies of the commanding officers.
Accepting this as Shaara s intent, it can be justifiably stated that he succeeds in his objective. The
Killer Angelsdoes not merely relate what assaults and defenses where made by which colonels and
generals. Instead, the book delves into the emotions of the major figures of the battle and what they
endured physically and mentally as they planned for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is most evident in the third day, when Shaara alternates between Colonel Joshua Lawrence
Chamberlain of the Union and James Longstreet of the Confederacy with one section focusing on
Lewis Armistead. Chamberlain and Longstreet are the two major opposing officers, and we see
the events from both perspectives. During Pickett s charge from Longstreet s view, it is
conceivable to imagine that the Union forces are easily routing the charging Confederates.
However, when the book looks at Chamberlain s side, we see that the Union forces are being hit
fairly hard by Confederate artillery. By showing us the different characters viewpoints, Shaara
also shows us their personal feelings. For example, we learn of the deep friendship between
Armistead and the Union Major General Winfield Scott Hancock. This changes the reader s view
of Armistead s role in Pickett s charge. There is now a poignant touch of pathos in seeing
Armistead falter with emotion and die at the top of the hill with apologies to Hancock. When the
readers can look at the characters of history as human, it becomes easier to grasp not only what
they have done, but also why they have done so. This is invaluable to understanding history.
Shaara conveys the overall emotion of the armies as well as the personal feelings of the major
characters. In one scene, Pickett s men are discussing what the war is being fought over with
Fremantle. Later, Tom Chamberlain relates an incident with

Machiavelli
NicolГІ Machiavelli was born in Florence, Italy on May 3, 1469 to attorney Bernardo di NicolГІ
Machiavelli and wife Bartolomea di Stefano Nelli. Despite being the third child, Machiavelli was
the first son born to the couple. Machiavelli was born in a tumultuous era in which popes waged
acquisitive wars against Italian city states, and people and cities often fell from power as France,
Spain, the Holy Roman Empire, and Switzerland battled for regional influence and control. Political
military alliances continually changed, featuring condottieri (mercenary leaders), who changed

dressed in the old robes of office, sat at his desk, and wrote. He drew on his experiences in

personal accounts and experiences in order to write The Prince. In the book, Machiavelli describes
how to take and maintain control of foreign lands with any means necessary, regardless of
morals. Because how one ought to live is so far removed from how one lives that he who lets go
of what is done for that which one ought to do sooner learns ruin than his own preservation:
because a man who might want to make a show of goodness in all things necessarily comes to
ruin among so many who are not good. Because of this it is necessary for a prince, wanting to
maintain himself, to learn how to be able to be not good and to use this and not use it according
to necessity (Machiavelli). The Prince is different from other books about creating and controlling
principalities because it doesn t tell you what an ideal prince or principality is, but Machiavelli
explains through examples, which princes are the most successful in obtaining and maintaining
power. Machiavelli draws his examples from personal observations made while he was on
diplomatic missions for Florence and from his readings in ancient history. His writing has the mark
of the Renaissance upon it because he sprinkles his text with Latin phrases and many examples are

Local Area Network ( Lan )
Local Area Network (LAN) Local Area Network connects the computer hardware (i.e. Server,
Printer, or Personal Computers) together withing localized area such as office building or

generally (Frenzel, 2007). Pros One of the advantages of LAN is the speed (1000mbps), the
small number of devices on LAN bring fewer problems like transmission errors. If LAN requires
a couple of extra devices it is not very expensive(Jasujaved and Sehgal, 2016). The LAN can
offer resources like printers or storage to all users. Every node can have access to every file.
(Revision World, 2007) Cons The issues may arise when a number of people are sending prints
ques to appear. Network security might be and issue, in the instance where computer virus gets
inside of the network all computers will probably to get infected. Hardware cost can be costly
when setting up a new network from scratch. Failure of central server affects all nodes in the
network. (Revision World, 2007) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) Metropolitan Area
Network is a smaller collection of LAN networks generally covering an area of cities or towns.
MANs usually use fiber optic rings spanning the cities. The example of MAN can be cable TV

The Outbreak Of The Second World War
The outbreak of the second world war, preceded the wake of new international institutions and
treaties that, in turn, would commence a path towards true rights for mankind. These legal
organizations responded to the immense magnitude of violations towards Human Rights during the
20th Century. The Second World War saw a disregard for human rights
never before seen by
mankind. With the genocide of Jews, incessant discrimination against race and sexuality, as well
aerial bombings in support of territorial expansion, the world turned their devastation into a
National Confederation against future catastrophe, the United Nations. Following the creation of the
United Nations, attempted hope came in the form of coalitions such as the International Criminal
Court, the European Court of Human Rights, The U.N. Human Rights Council and United Nations
Security Council. The Institutions were given the mandate, by the United Nations, to be a last resort
in the protection of Human Rights, even against a corrupted State Government and any other
proclaimed authorities. These bodies have the jurisdiction to make judgements in support of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, the rights of humanity are not internationally
homogenous. Culture, religion, ethnicity and economic standpoints create complications and
loopholes in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, limits and obstacles arise and
these institutions must find a balance between Universalism and Relativism.

the В‘big four into the В‘big five . Breakfast cereals alone form an important and well established
part of the grocery sector with over 90% of households buying them. In 2000, 414,000 tonnes of
breakfast cereals alone were sold in the UK at a retail value of ВЈ1.1bn. The top leading
manufacturers in the UK are Kellogs, Wetabix and cereal partners, with Kellogs holding on to its
estimated share value of 40%. However despite their current high market value the number of
children who influence the sales of cereal has been declining since 1998 and is predicted to fall by
a further 400,000 by 2007. This reduction in children s population is mainly due to economical
changes in the family setting with more families having fewer children. As the decline in numbers
continues it is increasingly important for cereal marketers to understand their main source of
income and create new inventive marketing strategies to sustain their competitive position in the
grocery segment. As such this research aims to identify key influences that determine children s
purchase behaviour and propose a new marketing strategy that will enable cereal manufactures to
more effectively position their products, directly targeting their main source of income, namely
children.
As the decline of children s population continues, cereal manufacturers have been

Social Class Hierarchies In Pygmalion By George Bernard Shaw
On the surface, the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw is a modernized, real life spin off
of the Greek myth of Pygmalion, in which a sculptor falls in love with a statue that he has carved.
One can easily argue that Professor Higgins plays the role of the sculptor, as he molds Eliza, the
statue, into something more desirable throughout the entirety of the play. However, when digging
deeper into the text through the use of close reading, I found that the play itself outlined and
symbolized the differences in social classhierarchies. In fact, I think that the text was a medium
that the author used to display a social experiment, and highlight the advantages and
disadvantages that the changing of social hierarchies is able to provide. The play opens with a
dark, rainy scene that introduces the majority of the main characters right away. Eliza, referred
to as the Flower Girl is initially depicted as a ragged, grimy individual hopelessly trying to sell
flowers to people leaving a theater after a show. Nearby, Professor Higgins and Colonel
Pickering are depicted as well dressed, stable individuals that are referred to as the Note Taker and
the Gentleman respectively. In this particular scene, I think that Shaw does a great job of showing
upfront differences in social structure, as the Flower Girl is representative of the poorer, lower
class community, while the Note Taker and the Gentleman are displaying the wealthier upper class.
The fact that the two social

Chemical Warfare Persuasive Reasearch Essay
The purpose of this essay is to deal with the fact that chemical warfare should be brought back to
modern warfare strategies. As Warren Rudman said, And they will tell you unequivocally that if
we have a chemical or biological attack or a nuclear attack anywhere in this country, they are
unprepared to deal with it today, and that is of high urgency. Rudman s words are true in what they
say and that we should do everything to counter act his statement. Biological weapons are a key to
outstanding success in war and therefore, I strongly suggest that chemical warfareis an effective and
producible weapon tactic that can be used on today s battlefield. Though biological weapons have
been available for under a century, there is a long... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a risk. (Spartacus)
The fact that we cannot use chemical weapons is a very bad thing. We could have used these
weapons in the Vietnam War. With all the tall grass and dense forests, our soldiers were not
prepared for the close up combat. If we had used the chemical agents in that forest, we could have
eliminated hidden enemy forces and we would have saved many American soldiers lives.
With the growing problem of the war in the Middle East, we could use chemical weapons in
order to siphon out enemy forces hidden in houses. Enemies will hide in houses and then
emerge when we are near by surprise and they kill many soldiers by doing so. Our families are
greatly affected by the loss of a son, father, or brother. With soldiers dying every day, the problem
could be fixed by using chemical weapons because they flow into hard to attack areas. It is the
only way to eliminate an enemy without radioactive nuclear force. Chemical weapons would lessen
the deaths of our soldiers.
There are many repercussions to not having a biological weapon. If we cannot reinstate chemical
warfare, we will continue to lose many soldiers lives. Having chemical weapons is like when we
came out with the UCAV. The UCAV stands for unmanned combat aerial vehicle. The UCAV got
rid of the loss of lives in the air. It made bombing targets easier. With chemical weapons, we could
eliminate thousands of war related deaths. If

Thesis Statement On Sea Cucumbers
I aspire to be a scientist who makes real connections between seemingly disparate problems or
challenges and finds human value in scientific knowledge. For my doctoral research, I want to
study unfamiliar marine organisms in unfamiliar habitats to contribute to new knowledge and
discover new species. To these ends, I will connect my graduate thesis on sea cucumbers with my
ongoing research on mesophotic reefs. Sea cucumbers (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea) are diverse
worm like organisms that evolved and diversified for over 400 million years. Mesophotic reefs are
found at 30 to 150 meter depths and developed after the last Ice Age, over 10,000 years ago. In my
country, the Philippines, these deep reefs offer something of a last hope for... Show more content on

Moon Informative Speech

Our Moon
There are many things about the moon now I will tell you about some of the physical properties
such as the moon is 384,400 k or 238,000 miles from earth. It is so far in fact it would take a whole
2 seconds for a radio signal to get to the moon and back. And talking about distance the moon is
2162 miles long. Which is 1/4 the size of earth. It s density is 3340 kg/m. While still less dense
than the earth and being much smaller it s gravity which is only 1/6 as strong as earths still has an
effect on our Ivan s here on earth.(school for champions.com)2017
Now I will talk about the moons importance in old civilizations ancient religions and mythology.
The Mayans use to believe the sun and moon were both terrestrial creatures. And thought that the
moon was a young lady and the sun was a brave hunter. They believed that the sun and moon had
fallen in love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The moons gravity has a huge impact on our planets tides. Despite it being so far away from the
earth. The tides happen because the moons gravity which pull on the earth. This causes effects on
the earth such as when the moon is higher the oceans raise higher. Where the earth is closest to the
moon and on the opposite side of the earth. When the earth rotates the position in which the ocean
rises. In a whole 24 hours you would see 2 rises and falls of the ocean in total.(ScienceKids.com)
I ll now talk about how the moon was formed. Scientist say that it was formed at least 4.5 billion
years ago. At least 30 or 50 after the solar system was formed. It was presumed to be formed after
proto earth and another planetoid crashed into each other. At first the moon had spun extremely
fast. But eventually slowed enough to match the orbital rate. It it was eventually in line with earth.
This is the reason we only ever see one side of the moon.(SServ.nasa.gov)

What Led Italy To War In 1914
WWI was a huge time period not only in European history but the world s history because it was
the first major conflict involving different countries at one time. The war sparked nations to
develop their armies and society so that in preceding life they will be viewed as a hierarchy to
others. In this investigation Italy will be the focusing country and why they went to war in 1915.
So what were the key motives that led Italy to join WWI in 1915? Before choosing the preceding
two sources, secondary and primary sources including websites, treaties, and documents were found
on the question above however, none had a lot of significance to answering the question provided.
Source one a book written in 1917. Within the book is the speech the... Show more content on

This did not work however because I quickly learned that there wasn t many articles, and or
primary sources about Italy from the year 1914 or 1915. If there had been more of a selection
for primary and secondary sources many historians including myself would be able to use those
sources for a deeper analysis because there would be more facts to support your thesis. It is
somewhat challenging for an historian to find primary sources and along with that secondary
sources because I found that some may have been edited and given false information making it
challenging for an historian to find very valuable information from secondary sources that haven
t maybe been edited leading to false data. With that being said historians are able to make their
lives much easier by finding primary sources because they are taken from the time of the event
meaning that it would be very hard to know if the source had been edited meaning that it is a
reliable source to use. After looking at some sources it was clear that I was presented with more
facts from secondary sources and less perspectives from primary sources making the job a whole
lot harder to get the perspectives from others at the time of the event. On the topic of primary
sources I would like to add that primary sources

  • 2. The Advent of Imperialism Essay The Advent of Imperialism We live in a world today in which the consequences of nineteenth century Western imperialism are still being felt. By about 1914 Western civilization reached the high point of its long standing global expansion. This expansion in this period took many forms. There was, first of all, economic expansion. Europeans invested large sums of money abroad, building railroads and ports, mines and plantations, factories and public utilities. Trade between nations grew greatly and a world economy developed. Between 1750 and 1900 the gap in income disparities between industrialized Europe and America and the rest of the world grew at an astounding rate. Part of this was due, first, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Competition for trade, superior military force, European power politics, and a racist belief in European superiority were among the most important. Some Europeans bitterly criticized imperialism as a betrayal of Western ideals of freedom and equality. Western imperialism produced various reactions in Africa and Asia. The first response was simply to try to drive the foreigners away. The general failure of this traditionalist response then led large masses to accept European rule, which did bring some improvements. A third response was the modernist response of Western educated natives, who were repelled by Western racism and attracted by Western ideals of national independence and economic progress. Thus, imperialism and reactions to it spread Western civilization to non Western lands. The great test of Western Imperialism is Asia, where vast peoples live, the inheritors of civilisations as complex as our own, more ancient and more firmly rooted by enduring custom in the general life. The races of Africa it has been possible to regard as savages or children, backward in their progress along the same general road of civilisation in which Anglo Saxondom represents the vanguard, and requiring the help of more forward races. It is not so easy to make a specious case for Western control over India, China, and other Asiatic peoples upon the same ground. Save in the more recent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Emergence and Africanization of Catholic Christianity in the Kongo When the nation of Kongo converted to Christianity around the turn of the 16th century, the Catholicism that developed over the next century is best understood as primarily a superficial layer added onto Kongolese traditional religion. The kings of Kongo did not try to replace previous beliefs and practices with Christianity, nor did they simply mask their traditional religion, but rather they incorporated Christian doctrines, rituals, and some aspects of Portuguese Christian culture such as literacy and medicine, into the framework of the traditional Kongolese lifestyle. Afonso s faith cannot be reprimanded based on his complaining about Portuguese abuses in the slave trade, or rejecting the Portuguese suggestion to amend the traditional system of taxation and distribution of government grants, or asking Rome to allow dispensations for polygamy, the ordination of natives, and the creation of a separate Diocese. The conclusion we may draw from these acts is not that Afonso was a bad Christian, but that he intended for the introduction of Christianity to strengthen his sovereignty rather than weaken it. In this way, he is like European monarchs, but the Christianity he adopts and promotes in his nations is not European Christianity. It seems more likely that, as Baladier has argued, Christianity was adopted fundamentally as a source of ngolo, or power, which placed it in a political context ...Christianity was conceived as a supplementary method of reinforcement, not as a religion exclusive of the old beliefs. That Afonso s Christian faith was inclusive of tradition religion, and that it was subordinate to, and often used to further, his political ambitions, does not necessitate that it was insincere. • 7. Sociological Explanations Of Prejudice Essay From birth, we are culturally conditioned by prejudice, this is due to several factors some of which are the media, our family, as well as our friends. Prejudice refers to our attitude towards others, whether it be their race, sex, religion, etc. Prejudice tends to evolve into discrimination over time, discriminationbeing the negative behavior we show towards others. By the age six and seven, children are beginning to notice differences in skin color, as well as observe the ways in which people s lives differ. Often times a child s view is persuaded or shaped by the stereotypes of the adults around them. Some adults may not consider how their views and their words may impact the way a young child sees the world. For an example, take a child raised into a wealthy family, whose parents tend to vocalize their negative opinions of the middle class, this child is likely to obtain the same prejudice over time. In the same aspects, a child from a less fortunate family whose parents are unable to afford the nicer luxuries in life, may grow to form their own prejudice out of jealously. Seeing others who are able to do more or afford more, may cause this child to feel resentment towards those who are better off. Feeling bitter, as though they have been treated unfairly, and that... • 10. Feminism Is The Belief Of Political, Economic And Social... Feminism by: Laura CapellГЎn Feminism is the belief in political, economic and social equality of the sexes and is one of the leading conflicts in today s society. In the past years, women had faced many battles to fight and give these rights to women who have been deprived of their rights and privileges that were never given to them by men. I believe that every person is entitled to have equal opportunities in this world. Feminism has proven to slowly accomplishing this. Even if it meant hurting the people that you love. The Victorian Era came change. This caused conflicts between right and wrong for a women during this time. Feminism took a huge role in the roaring twenties that no one saw coming. For example a new woman was born , which I believe is huge part of the feminists movements, instigating many changes to the societies to come. Starting a different stereotype for women. Before the twenties, the typical women would be what people consider today to be stay at home mom . The women would stay home while the men worked; that meant cleaning, cooking, taking care of the kids, and doing whatever is necessary to please the standards of their husbands. Many women had carry the expectations that were held by their mothers. I disagree with the typical women during this time because I believe that a women should be independent without being tied down by a man. • 11. Female Characters Of The Novel Dracula Throughout the Victorian period in which Dracula was written, there was great concern over the roles of women, and the place they held in society. The two central female characters in Dracula are Mina Murray, later Mina Harker, and Lucy Westenra, though arguably Dracula s three daughters also hold a strong place in terms of female characters in the novel also. One of the main depictions of women in the novel is that are either both sexually promiscuous and overtly sexual, or they are pure and chaste. In Victorian society, you were either a virgin or a married woman, if women were neither then they were not of much moral worth to society. Much like this Victorian ideal, the overtly promiscuous and sexual females of Draculaare depicted as evil and monstrous, while the pure and chaste women are displayed as strong and heroic. The character of Mina Murray, whom starts the novel as a young school headmistress that is engaged to one of the novel s narrators, Jonathan Harker. Throughout the novel, Mina is depicted as the ideal Victorian woman. Take what Dr. Van Helsing says of Mina in chapter fourteen, She is one of God s women, fashioned by His own hand to show us men and other women that there is a heaven where we can enter, and that its light can be here on earth. Comparing the Personalities of the Writers, Dante and Chaucer Even though Dante and Chaucer never met, Dante having died 19 years before Chaucer was born, Dante inadvertently became Chaucer s life long mentor. Dante s severe spirit turned out to be far more harsh than Chaucer s nature, however Dante s protГ©gГ©, Boccaccio, became one of Chaucer s greatest inspirations. Looking back at both Dante and Chaucer s works, experts now see striking similarities in their writing. Whether Chaucer ever meant to use Dante s materials or not, he is now closely compared with his contrary counter part. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These experiences made Dante quickly realize that this world is corrupt to the core. Greed for material things is the main fault, greed which is allowed to dictate the actions of men. Only a cessation of strife, the establishment of universal peace can ensure the happiness of mankind and allow men to pursue the ultimate aim for which God has destined them on earth, that of exercising constantly and to the full their distinctive quality, the Virtus Intellective (virtuous intellect) (Limentani,117). He believed that life on this earth was for a purpose and had meaning to it this can be seen in the Inferno because Dante is working to make his journey purposeful. He travels so far and tries so hard to work his way up to heaven. Chaucer stands in contrast to Dante s almost dogmatic piety and looks to other things as purposeful in his life. Chaucer s views of life come from a very political point of view. He was introduced to court life while still in his teens, becoming a page to one of the kings daughter in laws. From there he rose in status until he was promoted to the rank of esquire. Though he was exposed to political plots and war Chaucer exhibit s a lust and compassion for life that completely eludes Dante s works. While he was easy going and generally sympathetic to others Chaucer was nothing of a typical idealist. • 17. Essay on Compare and Contrast Two Leadership Styles Leadership can be defined as the ability to lead a group of people successfully in an organization. Hall, et al (2008) have mentioned that an effective leader has to be visionary, motivating and responsible in order to successfully run a business organization. In business the two key leadership styles, which are widely used in today s corporate world are autocratic leadershipand democratic leadership (Johnson, n.d.). Autocratic leadership may be explained as a leadership style where the manager sets objectives, allocates tasks and insists on obedience (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 401). Conversely, democratic leadership encourages participation in decision making (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 402). Whilst many people would consider autocratic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leader must be able to explain ideas clearly to employees and understand any feedback they receive (Hall, et al 2008 p.g 402). Though rate of production with a democratic style of leadership might be slower than in an autocratic due to low supervision, it could be disputed that workers can work more freely as there is less stress to perform. A further aspect of leadership, which can also be believed to have a direct link with communication, is decision making. Both leadership styles are similar in the way that ideas need to be stored before making a business decision. In an autocratic work place decisions are made independently with little or no input from the rest of the group (Riley, 2012 n.p.). However, in a democratic society employees have greater involvement in decision making (Riley, 2012 n.p.). Both these types of leadership have their benefits and disadvantages with respect to decision making. In his research on different types of leadership, Joseph, (n.d.) stated that autocratic leadership style could be effective in a business environment as decisions can be made quickly without consulting with workers. According to Cherry, (n.d.) this type of leadership would be advantageous in situations such as the military where decisions need to be taken quickly. Though quick decision making can be beneficial, it could be argued that it can lead to a demotivated workforce. Employees motivation decreases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Geothermal Energy Is Heat Energy Coming From The Earth 1. Introduction Geothermal energy is heat energy coming from the Earth. Geothermal energy is relatively cost effective, reliable, and friendly to the environment, but is limited to some specific areas. Recent technology development has greatly expanded the range and size of geothermal energy resources. Now the geothermal energy can be also used for applications such as home heating, which add use potential for the resource. Although, tapping geothermal energy will release some gas pollution which are originally trapped deep inside the earth, these emissions are much lower than those of fossil fuels. Therefore, geothermal energy is a kind of potential energy and may help to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions of the earth. California, with its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, has great potential of geothermal energy, which can easily meet the consumption of electricity for 100,000 residents. In the book, Ransom, by David Malouf, Hector kills Achilles friend, Patroclus, so Achilles kills Hector. Priam wants to see his son one last time so he makes a plan to get to him. Somax takes Priam on a carriage to go find his son Hector. They have some troubles along the way, but they eventually get to Priam s son. Priam brings Hector back to Troy and Hector is buried. In Ransom by David Malouf, the author teaches the reader the power of grief through the experiences of Priam and Achilles. Grief can be a controlling force, it can cause and individual to change as a person, and grief can strongly influence one s actions. The sorrow from the loss of a loved can be burdensome and can take a toll on one and their family. The Government s Combat On Copyrights Infringement Abstract As China rose to become one of the world s largest trading partners following its accession to the WTO, the country also began to face intense pressure from the international community to abide by standards on intellectual property rights. The firm estimated that China s online video revenue increased 41.9 percent in 2013, reaching about $2 billion. In contrast, China s traditional TV industry has suffered a sharp decline. Avoiding licensing costs from foreign production companies, many Chinese Internet video companies had become a haven for illicit American shows and hit South Korean soap operas. The illegal distribution of foreign content on these websites was an undoing to China s endeavor to ascent to a strong intellectual property country. Amidst criticisms from the right holders in the international community, China has tightened its regulations against copyright infringement on online video streaming websites. Another rationale behind the government s commitment to fighting copyright piracy is to protect domestic TV stations against the rampant popularity of foreign TV shows online. The Chinese government hopes that through an enforcement of IPR, China s TV industry will see a reduce in the invasion of foreign TV shows due to high licensing costs and thus an increase in the production of domestic popular ones. This statement brings the idea of slavery away from the racist views which are clearly present in characters like Dr. Finch and Grady O Hanlon. Although the validity of this statement is questionable, the impact slaveryhad on society in this country is clear. Slavery impacted many aspects of society, including the people of Maycomb, the views of the Southern/Northern states, and racial tension in today s society. The statement made by Dr. Finch was, in fact, inaccurate. When you look at the results of the 1860 census, you see that the overall percent of families owning slaves is only 8% in the United States as a whole(CivilWar.net). However, in his statement from the book, he specifically said not much more than 5% of the South ever saw a slave, much less owned one. The keywords in this statement were South and Saw . Both of these words can be disproved by the 1860 census. If you were to look at the different states separately, you would see that almost all southern states were at or above 25% when looking at families who own slaves. This proves that much more than 5% of the south owned slaves. However, if you were to look at the data as a whole, you would be mislead by thinking this 8% was a representation of the south. This is most likely what Dr. Finch s error was when saying this. This is why I do believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The writers of these tales use many methods to add spectacular drama to every day experiences. Twisting the meaning of words allows the authors to vividly paint a portrait of the moment they re capturing. In Robert Hayden s Those Winter Sundays , Hayden uses simple words to paint a detailed picture in only a few lines. He shows us not only the bleakness of winter, but highlights how small, daily acts of love are easily forgotten. We open the poem on a weekend, a Sunday. A day that for most of us is used for leisure, religion, and time with our loved ones. Hayden says, Sundays to my father got up early / and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, (768). The use of blueblack conveys how severe the cold was in their home. Images of pain are brought to mind, like the blue and black of a deep bruise. His father woke early, and left his warm bed, to fight the deep chill for his family. A labor of love that for which No one ever thanked him. (Hayden 768). I d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. (Hayden 768). In this line Hayden gives the winter s cold a more definitive, physical presence. You can imagine his father s fierce fighting breaking through a thick layer of ice; his labor and love forcing back the threat to his family. Although these receptors have been found in other parts of the body like liver9, smooth airway muscles of the lungs10, and several type of immune cells11,12, their main function comes in the nervous system, specifically neurons. The GABAA receptors located in the postsynaptic membrane are stimulated by GABA neurotransmitter released from the pre synaptic neurons and functions to inhibit neuronal stimulation in the short term (millisecond time range), while the extrasynaptic GABAA receptors are stimulated by ambient GABA in the extracellular space and confers long term inhibition.2 However, there are many types of GABAA receptors depending on the subunits that they are made up of ... During Pickett s charge from Longstreet s view, it is conceivable to imagine that the Union forces are easily routing the charging Confederates. However, when the book looks at Chamberlain s side, we see that the Union forces are being hit fairly hard by Confederate artillery. By showing us the different characters viewpoints, Shaara also shows us their personal feelings. There is now a poignant touch of pathos in seeing Armistead falter with emotion and die at the top of the hill with apologies to Hancock. When the readers can look at the characters of history as human, it becomes easier to grasp not only what they have done, but also why they have done so. This is invaluable to understanding history. The top leading manufacturers in the UK are Kellogs, Wetabix and cereal partners, with Kellogs holding on to its estimated share value of 40%. However despite their current high market value the number of children who influence the sales of cereal has been declining since 1998 and is predicted to fall by a further 400,000 by 2007. This reduction in children s population is mainly due to economical changes in the family setting with more families having fewer children. As the decline in numbers continues it is increasingly important for cereal marketers to understand their main source of income and create new inventive marketing strategies to sustain their competitive position in the grocery segment. As such this research aims to identify key influences that determine children s purchase behaviour and propose a new marketing strategy that will enable cereal manufactures to more effectively position their products, directly targeting their main source of income, namely children. As the decline of children s population continues, cereal manufacturers have been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Social Class Hierarchies In Pygmalion By George Bernard Shaw On the surface, the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw is a modernized, real life spin off of the Greek myth of Pygmalion, in which a sculptor falls in love with a statue that he has carved. One can easily argue that Professor Higgins plays the role of the sculptor, as he molds Eliza, the statue, into something more desirable throughout the entirety of the play. However, when digging deeper into the text through the use of close reading, I found that the play itself outlined and symbolized the differences in social classhierarchies. In fact, I think that the text was a medium that the author used to display a social experiment, and highlight the advantages and disadvantages that the changing of social hierarchies is able to provide. The play opens with a dark, rainy scene that introduces the majority of the main characters right away. Eliza, referred to as the Flower Girl is initially depicted as a ragged, grimy individual hopelessly trying to sell flowers to people leaving a theater after a show. Nearby, Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering are depicted as well dressed, stable individuals that are referred to as the Note Taker and the Gentleman respectively. In this particular scene, I think that Shaw does a great job of showing upfront differences in social structure, as the Flower Girl is representative of the poorer, lower class community, while the Note Taker and the Gentleman are displaying the wealthier upper class. The fact that the two social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Chemical Warfare Persuasive Reasearch Essay The purpose of this essay is to deal with the fact that chemical warfare should be brought back to modern warfare strategies. As Warren Rudman said, And they will tell you unequivocally that if we have a chemical or biological attack or a nuclear attack anywhere in this country, they are unprepared to deal with it today, and that is of high urgency. Rudman s words are true in what they say and that we should do everything to counter act his statement. Biological weapons are a key to outstanding success in war and therefore, I strongly suggest that chemical warfareis an effective and producible weapon tactic that can be used on today s battlefield. Though biological weapons have been available for under a century, there is a long... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was a risk. (Spartacus) The fact that we cannot use chemical weapons is a very bad thing. We could have used these weapons in the Vietnam War. With all the tall grass and dense forests, our soldiers were not prepared for the close up combat. If we had used the chemical agents in that forest, we could have eliminated hidden enemy forces and we would have saved many American soldiers lives. With the growing problem of the war in the Middle East, we could use chemical weapons in order to siphon out enemy forces hidden in houses. Enemies will hide in houses and then emerge when we are near by surprise and they kill many soldiers by doing so. Our families are greatly affected by the loss of a son, father, or brother. With soldiers dying every day, the problem could be fixed by using chemical weapons because they flow into hard to attack areas. It is the only way to eliminate an enemy without radioactive nuclear force. Chemical weapons would lessen the deaths of our soldiers. There are many repercussions to not having a biological weapon. If we cannot reinstate chemical warfare, we will continue to lose many soldiers lives. Having chemical weapons is like when we came out with the UCAV. The UCAV stands for unmanned combat aerial vehicle. The UCAV got rid of the loss of lives in the air. It made bombing targets easier. With chemical weapons, we could eliminate thousands of war related deaths. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Thesis Statement On Sea Cucumbers I aspire to be a scientist who makes real connections between seemingly disparate problems or challenges and finds human value in scientific knowledge. For my doctoral research, I want to study unfamiliar marine organisms in unfamiliar habitats to contribute to new knowledge and discover new species. To these ends, I will connect my graduate thesis on sea cucumbers with my ongoing research on mesophotic reefs. Sea cucumbers (Echinodermata: Holothuroidea) are diverse worm like organisms that evolved and diversified for over 400 million years. Mesophotic reefs are found at 30 to 150 meter depths and developed after the last Ice Age, over 10,000 years ago. In my country, the Philippines, these deep reefs offer something of a last hope for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Moon Informative Speech Jackson Peelish Mr. Musik ENG10 September 11, 2017 Our Moon There are many things about the moon now I will tell you about some of the physical properties such as the moon is 384,400 k or 238,000 miles from earth. It is so far in fact it would take a whole 2 seconds for a radio signal to get to the moon and back. And talking about distance the moon is 2162 miles long. Which is 1/4 the size of earth. It s density is 3340 kg/m. While still less dense than the earth and being much smaller it s gravity which is only 1/6 as strong as earths still has an effect on our Ivan s here on earth.(school for champions.com)2017 Now I will talk about the moons importance in old civilizations ancient religions and mythology. The Mayans use to believe the sun and moon were both terrestrial creatures. And thought that the moon was a young lady and the sun was a brave hunter. They believed that the sun and moon had fallen in love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The moons gravity has a huge impact on our planets tides. Despite it being so far away from the earth. The tides happen because the moons gravity which pull on the earth. This causes effects on the earth such as when the moon is higher the oceans raise higher. Where the earth is closest to the moon and on the opposite side of the earth. When the earth rotates the position in which the ocean rises. In a whole 24 hours you would see 2 rises and falls of the ocean in total.(ScienceKids.com) I ll now talk about how the moon was formed. Scientist say that it was formed at least 4.5 billion years ago. At least 30 or 50 after the solar system was formed. It was presumed to be formed after proto earth and another planetoid crashed into each other. At first the moon had spun extremely fast. But eventually slowed enough to match the orbital rate. It it was eventually in line with earth. This is the reason we only ever see one side of the moon.(SServ.nasa.gov) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. What Led Italy To War In 1914 WWI was a huge time period not only in European history but the world s history because it was the first major conflict involving different countries at one time. The war sparked nations to develop their armies and society so that in preceding life they will be viewed as a hierarchy to others. In this investigation Italy will be the focusing country and why they went to war in 1915. So what were the key motives that led Italy to join WWI in 1915? Before choosing the preceding two sources, secondary and primary sources including websites, treaties, and documents were found on the question above however, none had a lot of significance to answering the question provided. Source one a book written in 1917. Within the book is the speech the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This did not work however because I quickly learned that there wasn t many articles, and or primary sources about Italy from the year 1914 or 1915. If there had been more of a selection for primary and secondary sources many historians including myself would be able to use those sources for a deeper analysis because there would be more facts to support your thesis. It is somewhat challenging for an historian to find primary sources and along with that secondary sources because I found that some may have been edited and given false information making it challenging for an historian to find very valuable information from secondary sources that haven t maybe been edited leading to false data. With that being said historians are able to make their lives much easier by finding primary sources because they are taken from the time of the event meaning that it would be very hard to know if the source had been edited meaning that it is a reliable source to use. After looking at some sources it was clear that I was presented with more facts from secondary sources and less perspectives from primary sources making the job a whole lot harder to get the perspectives from others at the time of the event. On the topic of primary sources I would like to add that primary sources ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
