Sinek Vs Greek
What sets The Wright Brothers apart from Samuel Pierpont Langley? Many things actually, but the
major differences were pointed out in the TED talk How Great Leaders Inspire Action given by Simon
Sinek. Sinek is an ethnographer who also comments on major publications and teaches at Columbia
University. Sinek s famous TED talk was given to a local audience at Puget Sound in 2009 where he
describes the reasons why companies like Apple and speakers like Martin Luther King Jr. are much
more successful than others in their fields with the same or more opportunities. Two of the most
important parts of his speech are the delivery and organization, both of which can be analyzed with
Neo Aristotelian Criticism. Overall, Sinek s delivery was very beneficial to the his credibility and the
audiences interest, but the organization of the speech could have been ... Show more content on

He explains the point of this speech most succinctly through his Apple illustration, as most everybody
in this day and age knows about Apple. At the same time, the Apple example could become a bit
outdated in the future. Sinek s TED Talk was given five years ago in 2009, and since then Apple has
evolved to be seen as a different company. For example, many people are starting to question the
motives behind Apple. Are they doing things just to make money or are they still set on their mission
statement Sinek presents in the speech which states: Everything we do, we believe in challenging the
status quo. We believe in thinking differently. The way we challenge the status quo is by making our
products beautifully designed, simple to use and user friendly. We just happen to make great
computers. Although the Apple example was a little dated, it is still something the online audience
watching today can relate to, which solidifies the connection between speaker and

Zombie Apocalypse History
6 Of The Most Original Zombie Movies Ever Made
Even the most passionate zombie movie fan will have to admit that the genre gets played out from
time to time. Sure, we all love a good walking dead/end of the world film. Yet, it s been a long time
since George A. Romero and Night of the Living Dead scared up audiences in 1968.
Since then, a slew of films have been produced and they ve varied wildly in terms of quality. Some
being quality, but most not so much. Yet, it s not always the quality of a zombie film that makes
people come. Some just want to see the undead devouring on some human flesh. Films have ranged
from classic horror themes to ridiculous plots about loved ones coming back from the dead. Some are
even timepieces that may only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critics both loved and faulted FotLD s zany, largely original plot despite attempting to cash in on two
often cliche genres in one film. While the film did receive high marks from some critics, FotLD never
created much of a buzz. But it does have the bad guy from Kindergarten Cop in it. So, that should
make someone reading this interested, right?
Warm Bodies (2013)
A zombie love story isn t the most original concept in recent years. Yet, Warm Bodies went deeper
with a background into the main zombie character, R. In doing so, the film showed a human element
to the undead (thanks largely to Nicholas Hoult s voiceovers) that hasn t been explored in detail in
other films.
Another interesting twist to the genre was the addition of separate zombie factions. The far
deteriorated become the bad guys, along with the humans while those left in the middle are the heroes.
It s a classic tale of why extremes are never a good idea. Additionally, clever writing and a cast of
solid Hollywood veterans make Warm Bodies more endearing than other out there love stories.
Besides, it s not as if Warm Bodies was a trilogy centered on a love triangle involving a teenage girl, a
vampire and a werewolf. That would just be over the top.

Poverty In Poverty
Poverty is very widespread and touches the lives of millions of Americans. Through the speeches of
Russell Conwell (Acres of Diamonds 1915) and Samuel Gompers (What does the working man want?
1890) we see through their eyes how each man feels about this topic. Being in poverty is something
that none of us want for ourselves. Even though we try our best sometimes it is something that is out
of our hands and something we can t avoid. Conwell s philosophy is in many ways aligned with the
foundations of Social Darwinism. He believes that it is our duty to work hard and earn our wealth. A
wealthy person is deemed an honest man, because he does the work and doesn t rely on someone else
to do it for him. The survival of the fittest has been proven by the fact that those who are poor were
not willing to try and work or just didn t have what it takes to overcome the odds and were pushed off
to the side. The fittest were willing to work and overcome the odds by hard work or figuring out ways
to bypass the obstacles that were standing in their way. For example, Conwell speaks of the man who
began whittling toys for his children and became a millionaire. He used what he had around him and a
skill he had to become successful. Also, Conwell speaks of the man who went off to foreign lands
looking for diamonds instead of continuing to work hard on his farm. Had he done so he would have
been the one to find the diamonds right there on his own land. Samuel Gompers sees that the poor face
many difficulties and are treated like a machine instead of a man, because of the long hours he must
work. He believes by shortening work days that men are more likely to do more outside of work to
better themselves and that they will be more productive at work as well in their personal lives. He
feels that politicians and college professors take advantage of workers because of the amount of men
and women who are looking for work which allows them to pay them less in wages and force them to
work long hours in unsafe working environments. Gompers wanted employers to see these mean and
woman who are searching for jobs as human beings not as just another cog in the wheel of the labor
movement. For example, the mention of a man who works

Hairspray Gun Essay
Fill the spray gun cup with water. Hook up the compressed air hose to the air inlet fitting on the spray
gun. Make the following basic adjustments to the spray gun: set the fan wide open, turn the material
adjustment knob to expose one thread, and set the air pressure to 10 psi at the inlet for HVLP spray
guns and 35 psi at the inlet for conventional spray guns. Completed ❑ 2. Practice proper body
position. Position yourself at the front of the hood and stretch to make sure you can reach the rear

The Southwest Blackout Of 2003
The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which affected
more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of this disaster was
a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy Corporation, located in Akron,
Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a big disaster. For a perfectly
planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched with the power consumption
within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a reasonable workload. If one power line
fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra power, which is bad for safety and may
lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the generating plant don t know it either. Then, because the workload was assigned to other lines,
several other lines in the region also declined to work for self protection, and the whole Ohio and
Michigan got blackout short after. The company and other government departments noticed the
problem, but hardly have anything to do at the time. The cascading effect is already unstoppable. Each
generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large current
destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States and Ontario
went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water pumps cannot
work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And other services like
public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio and TV stations) also
affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most areas did not get power
back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States government and Canada
government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent future blackouts after it.
Following the blackout, a thorough investigation of the energy control system was taken. GE s
developers looked through millions of lines of code and log to find the bug, and it them weeks to
finally locate the bug. The bug is known as a race condition in computer science,

History Of Rwanda And The Genocide
HISTORY OF RWANDAAND THE GENOCIDE
It is believed that the Hutu and the Tutsi were originally one community who shared some value
culture and even religion until the colonialist announced their arrival. Rwanda has experienced a
disturbing and prolonged cycle of violent conflict since 1959. The conflict which has been
characteristically political and socio economic in nature has played out mainly on the basis of
ethnicity and regionalism. It was first German and Belgium colonialism that created and nurtured the
country s ethnic rivalry between the majority Hutu and the minority Tutsi. The rivalry was constructed
on the basis of a myth of Tutsi superiority over the Hutu in order to serve both the colonial policy of
divide and rule and the colonial division of labor. The Tutsi were designated as the administrative
supervisors and the Hutu s the labor force of the extractive colonial economy. The 1959 revolution
brought the Hutu to power and ended colonialism. Unfortunately, though it succeeded in changing the
colonial socio political relations, it failed to crush the ethnic stereotypes that continued to haunt the
country (Maundi...et al, 2006:31).
Later on the Rwandan government at that time itself perpetuated the ethnic hate since its 1962
independence. The 30 years governance fought reflected the ideology of division, hate anger, among
others resulted into genocide in April 1994 leading to the death of Tutsi approximately 800,000 to
1,000,000 Tutsi lost their lives. However,

Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, And Feminism

English 2 Honors Period 5

Jane Eyre, The Bluest Eye, and Feminism Feminism. It s a big concept in society today, but has it
always been that way? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a famous work on the basis of her own
experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true love
and equality. In the Victorian period, the image of Jane Eyre cast a sharp contrast to the man
dominated society. She stands for a new lady who has the courage to fight for her own rights and love.
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is also a popular work that discusses the hardships of black
feminism. During Pecola s time in the story, she is faced with many obstacles that endanger her
womanhood, and the point of her femininity is put into place. Pecola s hardships in her life are faced
through her race, and this is a contrast to the white male dominated society. Let s begin with what
feminism really is. Feminist theory, according to my first literary criticism, by Haiyan Gao, is to
achieve gender equality in all of humanity. All feminist theory has a basic premise, which is, women
worldwide are under an oppression, discrimination, and hierarchy state. In such a social structure
prevalent among women in the political, economic, cultural, ideological, knowledge, ideas, ethics and
other fields are in an unequal position with men, even in a private sphere of family, women are also in
a position of inequality with men. Feminism

COMPAIRING ARTISTIC PERIODS
RENAISSANCE ART AND MANNERISM ART

COMPARING ARTISTIC PERIODS
The Renaissance period was from roughly the 14th century to the 17th century of the common era
(CE) beginning in Italy later spreading throughout Europe. The word Renaissance comes from the
original Italian word Rinascimento or rinascere which means to be reborn according to Harper (2012).
The influence of the Renaissance movement can be observed in art, music, science, religion, politics,
philosophy, literature, as well as other areas of intellectual inquiry. The Renaissance brought about a
way of thinking focused on the bettering the person and having a well rounded and educated person in

Another characteristic of this period is the lack of distinct or realistic perspective in renderings.
Michelangelo was one of the first artist who pioneered the Mannerism at the Laurentian Library in
Florence Italy according to Britannica (2012). One such painting that employed the Mannerism
characteristics such as eroticism and obscure imagery is the Madonna with the Long Neck painted by
Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, also known as Parmigianino (Artble, 2012). In 1520 the
humanistic model of the classical Renaissance such as the serenity, beauty, and order began to break
down as a negative world view began to emerge due to machinations and wars of Spain, France, and
the Holy Roman Empire. (Ozarks, 2012)
Both paintings represent the Madonna (the Virgin Mary) with the baby Jesus on her lap. In the
previous painting, the arch vault and throne on which the mother is seated is stylized very realistically
along with the saints surrounding them are all in proportion to themselves and to each other. In the
later painting the pose of the Madonna is elongated and exaggerated, the baby in the later painting is
quite large and the angels in the picture are crammed to one side with a prophet on the opposite which
is very small not coming up to the Madonna s knee.

The Importance Of Wolves To Yellowstone National Park
When the wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National park, the wolves prey decreased in
populations, and the producers had increases in population. In The Importance of Predators, the
Yellowstone Case, it shows that the Yellowstone valley had birds, bison, and beavers 150 years ago.
Then in 1995, wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone after being killed in the 1930 s. These wolves
ate animals such as the bison, whose population was starting to vanish in Yellowstone. This shows that
due to the wolves reintroduction, bison was lost, which was one of the wolves main prey. Another
piece of evidence is that the beaver population increased vastly during the wolves reintroduction in
1995. Beavers, which are not wolf prey, need willow trees

Analysis Of Yoruban Culture In Death Of The King s Horsemen
Every culture has its own belief systems, values, and traditions that are important and related to the
history of its people. The Yoruban Culture is one that is close to nature and believes that life, death,
and ancestry are closely linked. The concept of life, death, and family plays a big role in the play
Death of the King s Horsemen, by Wole Soyinka. It starts when the king dies and Elesin Oba has to
sacrifice himself to fulfill his duties as the king s horseman. The Pilkings, a European family living in
Africa, are ignorant of the Yoruban cultural practices. Due to their ignorance, Elesin is kept alive, and
instead his son, Olunde, dies. The indigenous tribe failed to maintain their values, thus weakening
their cultural identity. Through the failure to maintain the tribe s cultural identity, Soyinka proves that
some cultures might not understand the traditions from other cultures because not everyone knows the
importance of maintaining cultural values Elesin Oba was distracted from fulfilling his duty which
caused a loss of cultural identity. Elesin is the king s horseman, and as his duty he must die with the
king to escort the king into the afterlife. Elesin ended up not sacrificing himself at the right time,
consequently failing his tribe. Since Elesin did not sacrifice himself he lost his identity in the tribe.
Through Elesin not sacrificing himself, the tribe loses its identity as well. The tribe failed to maintain
its cultural identity by agreeing to Elesin s

Revitalization Movement In Ghost Dance
Deculturalization System
Esteemed author Brewton Berry wrote in 1968 that those involved in the education of natives
presumed that the purpose of educating native students was to assimilate them. They presumed that
natives would function better in society if they adopted the ways of the white man including his skills,
knowledge, language, values, religion, customs and attitudes (including those attitudes towards
slavery) (Dehyle Swisher 1997). This is because the white man s way of life set the standard for all
others to follow and for that education seemed the best process by which to effectively assimilate the
natives.

instead remained in the white communities. Some married other deculturalized natives while some

plantations. In the southern states the whites felt that black and native mixing would present a
significant threat. SC in 1725 passed a law that stipulated a fine of 200 pounds for persons bringing a

Theme Of Immigration In West Side Story
Cultural interactions are important when it comes to settling during an immigration. The movie West
Side Story shows the way the Puerto Ricans tried to fit in and be a part of the New York City
community. Once they got into New York City, the Puerto Ricans engaged themselves in various
economic activities like working in stores for other people. The main theme of the West Side Story
showed that intercultural relationships were an important part of the lives of the immigrants and
emigrants of NYC. The paper has managed to show that cultural interactions are of great importance
when it comes to the settling in of immigrants in a new community. The Puerto Ricans indeed faced
many issues when they got to NYC. The existing communities made it difficult for them to settle in
well. There was too much hatred and violence between the two cultures in that community that even
brought about death. Love usually have a way of cooling people down. When Tony and Maria fell in
love despite the differences in their cultures, something special happened. Although they were not able
to achieve their dreams because Tony ended up being killed, the two cultures were able to discard their
hatred for each other and come together for the first time. Indeed, the smooth settling of immigrants
greatly depends on the cultural interactions in their new destination.
Introduction

people is a unique one.

Spellbinding Metaphors In Plato s Phaedo
Mafädee 1
Qusai Mafädee
Intro to Philosophical Thkg 8:00

Test 1
One of the most spellbinding metaphors in Plato s Phaedo that shows the struggle between the body
and the soul is a description of the body as a prison for the soul, so the soul is a prisoner that stuck
within the material body. (Plato Phaedo 82e) The Imprisoned soul associates with the body, because of
its incomprehension to get out from the prison. Therefore, the materiality intrudes more and more to
contaminate the soul within the body. In which Plato s divided line steps play the role of gradually
freeing the soul from its own imprison. Despite Plato s complex theory, It s philosophy that can lead
the human to extract much to tell about how the humans can look at the world from wiser angles than
from those of the body. Plato builds his fundamental idea about this theory that what humans see or
what they used to see may not be the reality or truth but mere deceptive shadows of truth, and

Maturity In The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain explores the ideas of growth and maturity as
shown through Huck s realization of Jim s humanity, his choice choosing to steal the money from the
Duke and King, and finally, his decision to help Jim become a free man. One example of growth and
maturity in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was Huck s gradual realization that Jim was a human
being and his growing sympathy towards him. Huck states, I do believe he cared just as much for his
people as white folks do for their n (Twain 155). Huck deals with constant inner conflict during his
many adventures. He is pressured by society s view on slavery, influencing Huck to turn in Jim and
force him back into bondage. But, as worded by Joseph

Analysis Of A Stolen Life
On June 10th, 1991, eleven year old Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped, while walking to her bus stop, by
Phillip and Nancy Garrido. After using a stun gun and dragging her into their car, the Garrido s
proceeded to take Jaycee towards Anaheim, California. Once there, Jaycee lived in several rundown
buildings in the Garrido s backyard for eighteen long years. It was during that time that Jaycee
suffered multiple accounts of abuse, including sexual and emotional, and gave birth to two daughters.
During her stay at the Garrido s, Jaycee s life was stolen for more than half of the time she had been
breathing. However, in August of 2009, thanks to the help of two police officers, she was rescued.
After the rescue, Jaycee felt that it was important that she shared her story with other kidnapping,
abuse, and rape victims to help them know that they are not alone and to show others to never lose
hope. It is because of her thoughts, that Jaycee wrote her memoir, aptly titled A Stolen Life, which
follows her kidnapping story from her first day gone, to her recovery after being rescued. Throughout
the 268 pages of A Stolen Life, I was on an emotional roller coaster ride as Jaycee told her story
through her young eyes and left no details out. During one of the very first chapters in the memoir,
Jaycee describes the first time Phillip Garrido raped her. I am so small and he is so big. Why is he
doing this? Is this normal? (31) Jaycee recounts. Jaycee did not even have an idea of what sex

AAnalysis On Wordpress And Plugin Libraries
Conclusion
Sense its conception WordPress has managed to retain much of features and philosophies that have
made it very attractive to so many users such as its intuitive user interface. Its ease of use typically
makes it one of the first systems even most reluctant professionals explore. It is by far one of the
simplest systems to learn while still providing many easy to integrate features through its robust theme

support, updates, and compatibility with new and emerging technologies between WordPress s very
large and growing community paired with Automattic s acquisitions of complimentary software

Drupal s installation process is similar to both WordPress and Joomla. The user simply downloads the

being used. It also offers distributions of pre packaged bundles of modules and configurations to
create specific kinds of websites. While I do give Drupal a better ranking on setup than Joomla, it
loses any merits gained when it comes to maintenance. Due to the fact its system was created to be
customized it has a lot more is riding on each

Reflective Essay On Night And Fog
There was a point in time, when the Holocaust tragedy transpired, where the Nazi s committed
genocide during World War II. In this day in age, the world looks back upon these ultimate crimes
against humanity, when these atrocities occurred, believing this could never feasibly happen again in
our time. Alain Resnais created the self reflective documentary film, Night and Fog, to act as a
warning to the audience that the tragic significance of the Holocaust was a past reality and always will
threaten humanity by its ability to return and become our present reality.
The circular narrative of the film began in the present, reverts to the past, while returning in the end to

A Freudian Analysis of Voltaire s Candide Essay
A Freudian Analysis of Voltaire s Candide
In Civilization and its Discontents, Sigmund Freud refers to the important role that love plays in the
world of Man. Love certainly plays an important role in Voltaire s Candide; throughout Candide s
journeys, a constant factor is his love for Lady Cunegonde and his desire to be with her.
Freud writes the way of life which makes love the centre of everything [...] comes naturally to all of
us, (Freud, p. 29). Candide s love for Cunegonde is the driving force of his life from the moment they
are parted at the beginning of the novel until they are bonded in marriage at the end. Throughout his

50). Candide s love for Cunegonde was clearly not accepted by her family. When Candide expresses
his desire to marry Cunegonde to her brother, the Baron strikes him across the face for suggesting
such a hot headed notion, (Voltaire, p. 67). To the Baron it is completely absurd that Candide, who is
of lower birth, should think of marrying his sister, who has seventy two quarterings in her coat of
arms, (Voltaire, p. 67).
Candide promptly kills the Baron for disapproving of his love for the man s sister. Candide s reactions
are hasty, but they are made by a man in love; indeed, his only explanation for his two earlier killings
was simply a jealous man in love doesn t know what he is doing, (Voltaire, pp. 45 46). Throughout
history battles have been started by the impulsive actions of a jealous lover. Kingdoms have risen and
fallen for love s desires. Like Candide, a man in love is often blinded to his actions until after the
deed.
When Candide is sure that he is going to meet death at the hands of the Oreillons, his first thought is
of having lost Cunegonde. I must say it is very cruel to have lost Lady Cunegonde and to be skewered
by the Oreillons, (Voltaire, p. 71). Here is a man who is about to lose his life, and he feels that the loss
of his loved one is equal to the loss he is about to suffer. At the height of being in love the boundary

Information On The Internet Of A Regular Medical Doctor Essay
With the development of technology, the average person has an increased control over their health and
wellbeing especially concerning diet and exercise. Much of the increased control comes from the
plethora of information on the Internet; unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to determine the validity
of data on the web due to lack of regulation. This allows for everyone and anyone to voice their
opinion and even go as far as stating their opinion as fact. This is a significant problem for individuals
going to the Internet for advice on issues that have real consequences. With 15.5% of Canadians not
having a family physician, health themed websites have become increasingly popular (Access to a
regular medical doctor, 2013). Although these cites bring awareness to health issues and illnesses, the
average person may not have the skills to effectively differentiate between fact and fiction. Some cites
are even affiliates of authentic medical facilities, for example, The Mayo Clinic. Yet, some health
themed websites represent no accreditation, medical education, or research based facts. Consequently,
fiction can masquerade as the truth. Vitamins are particularly at risk for being misconstrued, due to the
general availability of vitamins. Micronutrients vitamins are undoubtedly important for the human
body and, like any supplement, they should only be ingested after making an informed decision

The Radio During World War I
The radio was never used more or for a much more important reason than during World War I and
World War II. Prior to the first world war war, many ships used the radio for communication. In the
early part of the 20th Century, amplification was one of the top concerns of the development of the
radio. Of course people were able to communicate with others hundreds of miles away, but the clarity
and amplification of the messages weren t necessarily as good as many had expected and counted on.
Often times, other means of communication like the telegraph were better off being used instead of the
radio. Because of that, Lee De Forest invented the Audion vacuum tube in 1906, and followed that up
one year later by adding his triode tube. According to

effective implementation strategy will allot enough time for workers to familiarize themselves with

issues the plant might be facing. The Management Team can emphasize a push toward execution
through learning and would also force the plant out of complacency through redefinition of its overall
goals.
Recommendation 2: Formation of Committees
Creating five different committees can introduce a reciprocal interdependence between management
and frontline workers (Exhibit 10). Aiming to eliminate the issues caused by misaligned goals,
workforce complacency, and poor leadership, the committees will serve as a channel for
communication, instrument for instilling accountability, and a medium for mentorship.
The structure of each committee will allow for decision making input from both front line workers and
management. Committees will meet on a biweekly basis to discuss issues arising in the plant s daily
operations. Since management currently has a poor record for handling employee grievances, the
intent of these committees will be to build a psychologically safe, trusting, and collaborative
environment where issues are presented and addressed in a timely manner. Committees will also be

Parents view their children as the most precious gift, teachers now realizes that their students have

The third movement is from illusion to prayer. Nouwen (1986) indicated that most people live their
lives in an illusion that they will never die. They believe that they hold the key to all that happens in
their lives. They do not put God first in their lives and they do not realize that God is in control of

The Simpsons Modern Family Satire Analysis
Situation comedy has used conventions satire and parody is used to reinforce/challenge ideas and
stereotypes through the mocking of societal issues. In this essay I will discuss about how stereotypes
and common ideas are constructed, and how they are supported or challenged in The Simpsons and
Modern Family through the use of satire, and parody. The first sitcom viewed was The Simpsons (in
class viewing),and is used to explore and support the common idea of consumer capitalism in society
plus the idea of consumer debt through the use of exaggeration and parody. The other sitcom viewed
(home viewing) was the Modern Family episode called Sleeper which constructs and challenges both
parental stereotypes whilst supporting the stereotypical traits of gay couples through the use of
exaggeration and irony.
In the Maple episode of The Simpsons, the main social issues explored are culture, capitalism and
consumer debt. Consumer debt, although only brief, is explored when Lisa attempts to buy MyPhonies
to make herself look cool, however she can t afford them. Satire in the form of exaggeration is used to

Compare And Contrast Christianity And Buddhism
Around the world there are many people with many different beliefs. Although there are many beliefs,
Christianity and Buddhism will be the topics for today. These two religions have spread throughout
the world and have influences many individuals. The way these religions are practiced show an
immense amount of the culture and origins it originates from. First of all, Christianity is originated
from Israel around the time of 30 CE lead by Jesus of Nazareth. It is practiced in North America,
South America, Europe, and Russia. Christianity is such a huge religion that there are other forms of
it. Some of the other forms Christianity are Catholic, Protestant, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox,
Restorationism and Nontrinitarianism, Independent Catholicism, and Minor branches. Although there
are many different forms of Christianity, they all share the same values and customs. Some of those
customs include the belief that there is one God in three forms, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. These
three forms are all God, but they are not each other. For example, Father is God, but Father is not Son.
Son is God but Son is not Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit is God but Holy Spirit is not Father. Now what do
Christians belief in? They belief that when you die, death is like being in eternal sleep with no
conscious of time or what s going on around you. Jesus said to her, i am the resurrection and life. He

Anne Moody in her book entitled, Coming of Age in Mississippi , shows that racism, even back then,
is treated with remedies versus a cure. After the many anti discrimination legislations passed as well as
activist groups shedding light on all of the significant differences and injustices that African
Americans face, one would think that by now racism would be far behind us here in America. After a

Anne Moody saw the true hideousness of racial violence shortly after beginning high school. Emmet
Till was killed by a group of white men for merely whistling and showing interest in a white woman.
Anne was surprised at how unaware she was to the things happening around her. I don t remember if
anyone was murdered, but back when I was in high school it was almost as if whites viewed it to be
cardinal sin for an African American male to be with a white woman. This too was a time where I saw
the true reality of what it was to be an African American versus a White American. Anne s mother
informed her to continue throughout life as if nothing happened but understandably she couldn t.
While working Anne could not focus and her rage began to display. Mrs. Burke made an attempt to
talk to Anne concerning Emmet Till s death but Anne acted as if she didn t know what Mrs. Burke was
speaking of. Mrs. Burke told her that that is what happens when black people step out of place with
whites. It was at that point Anne began to fear for her life now learning the true outlook of being an
African American. I see on a daily basis where African Americans accept injustice and move on with
life as if it doesn t matter. Instead of standing in the gap for what could very well hit home African
Americans tend to turn a blind eye to the corruption and cruelty we face.

Undifferentiated marketing This type of marketing views the market as one group with no segments
therefore using a single marketing strategy. Undifferentiated marketing generally involves targeting
the whole with one product and an undifferentiated marketing can be cheaper that other strategies
because there is only one product to produce. This strategy utilizes a single marketing mix to reach the
maximum number of consumers in the target market selected.
Differentiated marketing Here the marketing strategy targets different market segments with specific
marketing mix, which is designed to meet those segments needs. Differentiated marketing strategy
involves the preparation and communication of different brand and product messages to different
types of customers.
Concentrated marketing This type of marketing focuses on selecting a particular market. This strategy
can categorize the company into a single product. Concentrated marketing is famous for small firms
because mass distribution, production and mass advertising are not necessary these firms can achieve

What Is The Moral Education In The Pardoner s Tale
In The Canterbury Tales the group of pilgrims are traveling together and to make the trip more
enjoyable, the Host suggests that the pilgrims each take turns sharing stories, two a piece on the way
there and two on the way back. In addition, they turned the storytelling into a competition, whoever
tells the story that is the worst must buy dinner among other things. The winner will be judged by the
moral education and entertainment value of the stories. Between The Knight s Tale and The Pardoner s
Tale , The Pardoner s Tale meets the winning criteria the best. The Pardoner s Tale is more
entertaining as well as has a better moral education, despite being told by the least entertaining and
moral man of the pilgrims. The moral education of The Pardoner s Tale is the best of the two stories.
The Pardoner s Tale is following the theme Greed is the root of all evil. In the story, three drunk men
decide to start a bond of brothers and seek out death, who took one of their drunken friends. In the

Data, Information, And Knowledge And How They Are...
Students Name: Marsil Hana
1. Describe the terms Data, Information, and Knowledge and how they are related to each other.
Data: is a collection of facts and studies, it can be thought of as a description of the world. For
example, when I say I have brown hair, hazel eyes and live in Chicago, those are all data.
Information: information is much more refined data, because it evolved to the point where it can be
useful and helpful to study a certain case or form of analysis.
Knowledge: it is basically what we know, maybe insights and facts that we ve learned in our life, or
some experience that we applied to data and information.
In my opinion, they are related to each other because everything started from facts and our knowledge
on specific topics and facts, and it all evolved to information and helpful data.
2. Describe 5 components of the database system and why they are important part of the system?
1 Data: it s very important because most companies and organizations generate, store and process
large amounts of data.
2 Hardware: it s also an important component because we store our data in the storage devices like
CD, DVD, floppy disk, and all the important parts like the processor and memory.
3 Software: it consists the DBMS that acts as a bridge between the user and DB. It also interacts with
the user through application and programs.

Essentialist Theory Of The Queer Theory
sexuality often impacts the success of claims made by bi sexual refugees. The author argues that this
dominant understanding jettisons complex subjective positions and disregards varying realities. The
refugee determination system misinterprets and misidentifies the lived experiences of bisexual
claimants because of this knowledge, further disadvantaging this group of refugees. Rehaag observes
that individuals seeking asylum on the basis of oppression for their bisexual tendencies have
significantly higher rejection rates compared to other claimants.
To investigate this assertion, Rehaag uses the queer theory as the main theoretical framework.
According to Rehaag, the Queer theory is an interdisciplinary medium that examines the complex
interactions between sexuality and gender, and conceptualizes such views of sexual orientation as
essentialist. The essentialist view dichotomizes individuals as being either straight or gay on the basis
of early childhood psychological factors or biological traits. Consequently, this essentialist argument
comprehends sexual orientation as unchangeable and inflexible. Essentialists may, in selected
instances, acknowledge groups beyond gay and straight, such as transgendered and bisexual
individuals. Queer theorists reject the essentialist view arguing that these categories are not inflexible.
Rather, these categories are regularly recreated through socio historical patterns or structured social
exchanges. Consequently, the queer theory

if they will commit a crime based on the moral values their loved ones express. Thus, this theory
ultimately comes to claim that the relationships a person has with other people take on a great role in
crime as a lack of obtaining these emotional connections with others causes individuals to commit
crimes because they lack these ties to others to encourage

Examining the Anti-Immigration Policies Essay
Examining the Anti Immigration Policies
United States immigration policies are designed as deterrents to immigration into the United States.
Frankly, their message has always been Stay out! Recently, California policies have taken a harsher
stab at immigration, namely Mexican immigrants that constitute the largest Latin American minority
in the United States. This paper intends to examine these policies, the effects they have had on the
Mexican population in California, and the connection they have to the anti immigrant sentiment felt
throughout the country.
First, though, looking closely at anti immigrant sentiment in America and policies that have been
enacted in the past by the U.S. are necessary to the understanding of the ... Show more content on

During World War II, the U.S. and Mexico reached an agreement in which a massive number of
Mexicans would be transported to America as temporary workers in agriculture because of the
anticipated worker shortage created by the war. (6) Of all the labor used in production throughout the
first half of the century, 75 percent is believed to be Mexican. (7) It is obvious then that since the
beginning of the century, the United States has been a source of employment for Mexicans out of
work and it is this attitude which has created the incentive for Mexican migration during the latter half
of the century.
Anti immigrant sentiments felt in America have much to do with this attitude. The fact is that most
Mexicans immigrate to this country in search of employment and of a better life for their children, as
do most other immigrants into the U.S . This is seen as an economic threat by many Americans
because of the large number of Mexicans residing in the United States: 62 percent of the entire
Hispanic population of America as of 1988.(8)
California, which is home to the largest Mexican population in the U.S., has vigorously expresses its
discontent with the current status of immigration. Pete Wilson, governor of California and an anti
immigrant proponent, claims that the large numbers of immigrants settling in California are reeking
havoc on its economy. According to him, Los Angeles alone is inhabited by

Whaling In Japan
Part III: What I Learned Whaling has become a popular topic with in the last few decades. It has been
going on for centuries and was finally band in 1931 (Matera 3). But this didn t stop the Japanese at all.
By researching my topic I found that I did not know a lot about whaling, which made me want to dig
even deeper. At the beginning of this process, I looked into Whaling. I already knew that there was a
war going on between Japan and the United States because of the show Whale Wars, but I didn t know
any background information. I was always curious before but now I actually had a reason to do
research. In Part I of this project it asked me to describe everything I knew, assumed, and imagined
about whaling. During Part one I knew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went to the Scottsdale Community College library website and searched whaling. All the sources I
chosen was through Academic Search Premier. Every thing that I read put me in a new perspective
about my topic. I learned that whaling has been going on since the eleventh century, and commercial
whaling became illegal in 1931 (Matera 3). I found out that the United States actually whaled at some
point but it was not for the meat, it was for the whale oil. During the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, whaling started to become a problem. During this time Japan started to be the main whaling
country, this is when everything flipped upside down ( Greenpeace Says Japan Ready for Whaling. ).
In another source I was reading, I found out that in the 1980s, eight countries joined the International
Whaling Commission (IWC) to stop the world from whaling (Hyder 10). I also looked more into the
Sea Shepherds. The Sea Shepherds are a full volunteer based program to go out into the artic and try
and save as many whales as they can. Every year they go out and face Japan s whaling fleet, which are
five boats against the SS three. I learned that Japan got very hostile in the last couple tours (Kita 3).
They were ramming into the SS boats, even the little speedboat, which was an eighth of the size of
their ship. When I was reading a different article called Whales , I learned that whales eat around forty
thousand krill a day and if whales

Kevin Mitnick Case
There is no one like Kevin. He was once included among the FBI s Most Wanted because he hacked
into over 30 major corporations just for the challenge. After being caught and sentenced to jail for a
few years, Kevin is now a trusted security consultant to the Fortune 500 and governments worldwide,
as well as author to numerous books. (Mitnick, 2004, para. 1) Kevin Mitnick had his first major run in
with the law in the late 1980s. At 25, Kevin was caught monitoring the e mail of MCI and Digital
Equipment security officials, which led to his conviction of damaging computers and stealing
software. The jury ruled him guilty and the judge sentenced him to one year in prison. (Trigaux, 2000,
para. 13) One day after Valentine s Day in 1995, FBI

The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model
The engineering component of the Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model predicts wind and rain
damage to a variety of modelled building configurations in an effort to model hurricane losses. The
program uses a Monte Carlo approach to probabilistically simulating damage to the exterior
components of the models, but currently assigns costs to the damaged components deterministically.
This implementation does not capture variations in component costs and building values. This paper
investigates replacing the deterministic costing with probabilistic relationships to more accurately
reflect the uncertainty of the vulnerability outputs. The results indicate that cost variations do not
significantly impact the variation of the vulnerability results. The conclusion of the paper presents
possible explanations for this and recommendations for further investigation.
The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model (FPHLM) is a catastrophe model that predicts hurricane
related insured losses to residential infrastructure in the state of Florida. Currently, the model analyses
three different types of properties: personal residential buildings (single family buildings), commercial
residential low rise buildings (multi family buildings), and commercial residential mid/high rise
buildings (buildings in excess of 3 stories that house multiple families). The models consist of a
meteorological (hazard) component, an engineering (building vulnerability) component, and an
actuarial component.

An Exposition of Kant’s, Arendt’s, and Mill’s Moral...
An Exposition of Kant s, Arendt s, and Mill s Moral Philosophy
Immanuel Kant adheres to Deontological ethics. His theory offers a view of morality based on the
principle of good will and duty. According to him, people can perform good actions solely by good
intentions without any considerations to consequences. In addition, one must follow the laws and the
categorical imperative in order to act in accordance with and from duty. Several other philosophers
such as Hannah Arendt discuss Kant s moral philosophy. In her case study: The Accused and Duties of
a Law Abiding Citizen , Arendt examines how Adolf Eichmann s actions conformed to Kant s moral
precepts but also how they ran of afoul to his conception of duty. In contrast, John Stuart ... Show

Kant s supreme principle of morality is also based on reason. According to him, acting on principle
signifies that we should do something simply because it is the right thing to do. In addition, he argues
that the morality of an act depends on a person s intentions. A moral act is one done for the right
reasons, even if it has bad consequences or it is not in the agent s best interest. In other words, the
highest function of reason is to establish good will, not happiness (Kant, P.96). In his view of morality,
self interest and duty come into conflict since performing one s duty does not necessarily make
someone or others happy. In fact, being ethical often hurts. Overall, happiness plays almost no role in
Kant s morality. In his opinion, a good will is not good because it tries to promote some good end.
Firstly, a good will is always good, good unconditionally, and never in any way bad. Secondly, all
other goods, for instance, gifts of nature or fortune, are good only conditionally and are worthless or
even bad when the relevant conditions are not satisfied. Lastly, the goodness of any conditioned good
depends on it being combined with a good will. This concept of a will estimable in itself and good
without regard to any further end is captured in Kant s first proposition: Only an act done from duty
has moral worth (Kant, P.98). Having a good will is the condition to be satisfied for any other good

Many things actually, but the major differences were pointed out in the TED talk How Great Leaders Inspire Action given by Simon Sinek. Sinek is an ethnographer who also comments on major publications and teaches at Columbia University. Sinek s famous TED talk was given to a local audience at Puget Sound in 2009 where he describes the reasons why companies like Apple and speakers like Martin Luther King Jr. are much more successful than others in their fields with the same or more opportunities. Two of the most important parts of his speech are the delivery and organization, both of which can be analyzed with Neo Aristotelian Criticism. For example, many people are starting to question the motives behind Apple. Are they doing things just to make money or are they still set on their mission statement Sinek presents in the speech which states: Everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently. The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use and user friendly. We just happen to make great computers. • 3. Zombie Apocalypse History 6 Of The Most Original Zombie Movies Ever Made Even the most passionate zombie movie fan will have to admit that the genre gets played out from time to time. Sure, we all love a good walking dead/end of the world film. Yet, it s been a long time since George A. Romero and Night of the Living Dead scared up audiences in 1968. Since then, a slew of films have been produced and they ve varied wildly in terms of quality. Some being quality, but most not so much. Yet, it s not always the quality of a zombie film that makes people come. Some just want to see the undead devouring on some human flesh. Films have ranged from classic horror themes to ridiculous plots about loved ones coming back from the dead. Some are even timepieces that may only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critics both loved and faulted FotLD s zany, largely original plot despite attempting to cash in on two often cliche genres in one film. While the film did receive high marks from some critics, FotLD never created much of a buzz. But it does have the bad guy from Kindergarten Cop in it. So, that should make someone reading this interested, right? Warm Bodies (2013) A zombie love story isn t the most original concept in recent years. Yet, Warm Bodies went deeper with a background into the main zombie character, R. In doing so, the film showed a human element to the undead (thanks largely to Nicholas Hoult s voiceovers) that hasn t been explored in detail in other films. Another interesting twist to the genre was the addition of separate zombie factions. The far deteriorated become the bad guys, along with the humans while those left in the middle are the heroes. It s a classic tale of why extremes are never a good idea. Additionally, clever writing and a cast of solid Hollywood veterans make Warm Bodies more endearing than other out there love stories. Besides, it s not as if Warm Bodies was a trilogy centered on a love triangle involving a teenage girl, a vampire and a werewolf. That would just be over the top. **This article originally appeared on The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Poverty In Poverty Poverty is very widespread and touches the lives of millions of Americans. Through the speeches of Russell Conwell (Acres of Diamonds 1915) and Samuel Gompers (What does the working man want? 1890) we see through their eyes how each man feels about this topic. Being in poverty is something that none of us want for ourselves. Even though we try our best sometimes it is something that is out of our hands and something we can t avoid. Conwell s philosophy is in many ways aligned with the foundations of Social Darwinism. He believes that it is our duty to work hard and earn our wealth. A wealthy person is deemed an honest man, because he does the work and doesn t rely on someone else to do it for him. The survival of the fittest has been proven by the fact that those who are poor were not willing to try and work or just didn t have what it takes to overcome the odds and were pushed off to the side. The fittest were willing to work and overcome the odds by hard work or figuring out ways to bypass the obstacles that were standing in their way. For example, Conwell speaks of the man who began whittling toys for his children and became a millionaire. He used what he had around him and a skill he had to become successful. Also, Conwell speaks of the man who went off to foreign lands looking for diamonds instead of continuing to work hard on his farm. Had he done so he would have been the one to find the diamonds right there on his own land. Samuel Gompers sees that the poor face many difficulties and are treated like a machine instead of a man, because of the long hours he must work. He believes by shortening work days that men are more likely to do more outside of work to better themselves and that they will be more productive at work as well in their personal lives. He feels that politicians and college professors take advantage of workers because of the amount of men and women who are looking for work which allows them to pay them less in wages and force them to work long hours in unsafe working environments. Gompers wanted employers to see these mean and woman who are searching for jobs as human beings not as just another cog in the wheel of the labor movement. For example, the mention of a man who works ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Southwest Blackout Of 2003 The Northeast blackout of 2003 was one of the most critical blackouts in the history which affected more than 50 million people in both the United States and Canada. The main cause of this disaster was a software bug in the energy management system used by FirstEnergy Corporation, located in Akron, Ohio. This is a perfect example of poor quality coding may led to a big disaster. For a perfectly planned power grid, the power generation of each region is matched with the power consumption within this region, so that the power lines will always carry a reasonable workload. If one power line fails to work, other parallel lines would have to carry extra power, which is bad for safety and may lead to fire. The power system operators are the ones ... Each generating plant can only separate their generators from the power grid to prevent the large current destroy their generators. So almost all the generating plants in northeastern United States and Ontario went offline, and the whole region got blackout. This happened in only 2 hours. Water pumps cannot work without power supply, so some areas also have water supply problem. And other services like public transportation (e.g. TTC streetcars), communication, and media (radio and TV stations) also affected. Some areas recovered from the blackout the same night, but most areas did not get power back until August 16th, two days after the accident. Both United States government and Canada government were criticized, and they adopted some policy to prevent future blackouts after it. • 8. History Of Rwanda And The Genocide HISTORY OF RWANDAAND THE GENOCIDE It is believed that the Hutu and the Tutsi were originally one community who shared some value culture and even religion until the colonialist announced their arrival. Rwanda has experienced a disturbing and prolonged cycle of violent conflict since 1959. The conflict which has been characteristically political and socio economic in nature has played out mainly on the basis of ethnicity and regionalism. It was first German and Belgium colonialism that created and nurtured the country s ethnic rivalry between the majority Hutu and the minority Tutsi. The rivalry was constructed on the basis of a myth of Tutsi superiority over the Hutu in order to serve both the colonial policy of divide and rule and the colonial division of labor. The Tutsi were designated as the administrative supervisors and the Hutu s the labor force of the extractive colonial economy. The 1959 revolution brought the Hutu to power and ended colonialism. Unfortunately, though it succeeded in changing the colonial socio political relations, it failed to crush the ethnic stereotypes that continued to haunt the country (Maundi...et al, 2006:31). Later on the Rwandan government at that time itself perpetuated the ethnic hate since its 1962 independence. The 30 years governance fought reflected the ideology of division, hate anger, among others resulted into genocide in April 1994 leading to the death of Tutsi approximately 800,000 to 1,000,000 Tutsi lost their lives. It s a big concept in society today, but has it always been that way? Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte is a famous work on the basis of her own experiences. In this novel, the author shapes a tough and independent woman who pursues true love and equality. In the Victorian period, the image of Jane Eyre cast a sharp contrast to the man dominated society. She stands for a new lady who has the courage to fight for her own rights and love. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is also a popular work that discusses the hardships of black feminism. During Pecola s time in the story, she is faced with many obstacles that endanger her womanhood, and the point of her femininity is put into place. Pecola s hardships in her life are faced through her race, and this is a contrast to the white male dominated society. Let s begin with what feminism really is. Feminist theory, according to my first literary criticism, by Haiyan Gao, is to achieve gender equality in all of humanity. All feminist theory has a basic premise, which is, women worldwide are under an oppression, discrimination, and hierarchy state. In such a social structure prevalent among women in the political, economic, cultural, ideological, knowledge, ideas, ethics and other fields are in an unequal position with men, even in a private sphere of family, women are also in a position of inequality with men. The Yoruban Culture is one that is close to nature and believes that life, death, and ancestry are closely linked. The concept of life, death, and family plays a big role in the play Death of the King s Horsemen, by Wole Soyinka. It starts when the king dies and Elesin Oba has to sacrifice himself to fulfill his duties as the king s horseman. The Pilkings, a European family living in Africa, are ignorant of the Yoruban cultural practices. Due to their ignorance, Elesin is kept alive, and instead his son, Olunde, dies. The indigenous tribe failed to maintain their values, thus weakening their cultural identity. Through the failure to maintain the tribe s cultural identity, Soyinka proves that some cultures might not understand the traditions from other cultures because not everyone knows the importance of maintaining cultural values Elesin Oba was distracted from fulfilling his duty which caused a loss of cultural identity. Elesin is the king s horseman, and as his duty he must die with the king to escort the king into the afterlife. Elesin ended up not sacrificing himself at the right time, consequently failing his tribe. Since Elesin did not sacrifice himself he lost his identity in the tribe. Spellbinding Metaphors In Plato s Phaedo Mafädee 1 Qusai Mafädee Intro to Philosophical Thkg 8:00 30 September, 2017 Test 1 One of the most spellbinding metaphors in Plato s Phaedo that shows the struggle between the body and the soul is a description of the body as a prison for the soul, so the soul is a prisoner that stuck within the material body. (Plato Phaedo 82e) The Imprisoned soul associates with the body, because of its incomprehension to get out from the prison. Therefore, the materiality intrudes more and more to contaminate the soul within the body. In which Plato s divided line steps play the role of gradually freeing the soul from its own imprison. Despite Plato s complex theory, It s philosophy that can lead the human to extract much to tell about how the humans can look at the world from wiser angles than from those of the body. Plato builds his fundamental idea about this theory that what humans see or what they used to see may not be the reality or truth but mere deceptive shadows of truth, and therefore the senses for him are deceiving and unreliable. The soul is immortal, and the body is the mortal part, in which both exist in the living human. According to Plato, when the soul dissociates from the body, the soul leaves the world of becoming and enter the world of being. However, the soul has separate ability away from the body, and this independent existence reflects the most purity state away from the body. Maturity In The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain explores the ideas of growth and maturity as shown through Huck s realization of Jim s humanity, his choice choosing to steal the money from the Duke and King, and finally, his decision to help Jim become a free man. One example of growth and maturity in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was Huck s gradual realization that Jim was a human being and his growing sympathy towards him. Huck states, I do believe he cared just as much for his people as white folks do for their n (Twain 155). Huck deals with constant inner conflict during his many adventures. After using a stun gun and dragging her into their car, the Garrido s proceeded to take Jaycee towards Anaheim, California. Once there, Jaycee lived in several rundown buildings in the Garrido s backyard for eighteen long years. It was during that time that Jaycee suffered multiple accounts of abuse, including sexual and emotional, and gave birth to two daughters. During her stay at the Garrido s, Jaycee s life was stolen for more than half of the time she had been breathing. However, in August of 2009, thanks to the help of two police officers, she was rescued. After the rescue, Jaycee felt that it was important that she shared her story with other kidnapping, abuse, and rape victims to help them know that they are not alone and to show others to never lose hope. It is because of her thoughts, that Jaycee wrote her memoir, aptly titled A Stolen Life, which follows her kidnapping story from her first day gone, to her recovery after being rescued. Throughout the 268 pages of A Stolen Life, I was on an emotional roller coaster ride as Jaycee told her story through her young eyes and left no details out. During one of the very first chapters in the memoir, Jaycee describes the first time Phillip Garrido raped her. I am so small and he is so big. Why is he doing this? Is this normal? In this day in age, the world looks back upon these ultimate crimes against humanity, when these atrocities occurred, believing this could never feasibly happen again in our time. Alain Resnais created the self reflective documentary film, Night and Fog, to act as a warning to the audience that the tragic significance of the Holocaust was a past reality and always will threaten humanity by its ability to return and become our present reality. A Freudian Analysis of Voltaire s Candide Essay A Freudian Analysis of Voltaire s Candide In Civilization and its Discontents, Sigmund Freud refers to the important role that love plays in the world of Man. Love certainly plays an important role in Voltaire s Candide; throughout Candide s journeys, a constant factor is his love for Lady Cunegonde and his desire to be with her. Freud writes the way of life which makes love the centre of everything [...] comes naturally to all of us, (Freud, p. 29). Candide s love for Cunegonde was clearly not accepted by her family. To the Baron it is completely absurd that Candide, who is of lower birth, should think of marrying his sister, who has seventy two quarterings in her coat of arms, (Voltaire, p. 67). Candide promptly kills the Baron for disapproving of his love for the man s sister. Candide s reactions are hasty, but they are made by a man in love; indeed, his only explanation for his two earlier killings was simply a jealous man in love doesn t know what he is doing, (Voltaire, pp. 45 46). Throughout history battles have been started by the impulsive actions of a jealous lover. Kingdoms have risen and fallen for love s desires. Like Candide, a man in love is often blinded to his actions until after the deed. When Candide is sure that he is going to meet death at the hands of the Oreillons, his first thought is of having lost Cunegonde. I must say it is very cruel to have lost Lady Cunegonde and to be skewered by the Oreillons, (Voltaire, p. 71). Information On The Internet Of A Regular Medical Doctor Essay With the development of technology, the average person has an increased control over their health and wellbeing especially concerning diet and exercise. Much of the increased control comes from the plethora of information on the Internet; unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to determine the validity of data on the web due to lack of regulation. This allows for everyone and anyone to voice their opinion and even go as far as stating their opinion as fact. This is a significant problem for individuals going to the Internet for advice on issues that have real consequences. With 15.5% of Canadians not having a family physician, health themed websites have become increasingly popular (Access to a regular medical doctor, 2013). Although these cites bring awareness to health issues and illnesses, the average person may not have the skills to effectively differentiate between fact and fiction. The author argues that this dominant understanding jettisons complex subjective positions and disregards varying realities. The refugee determination system misinterprets and misidentifies the lived experiences of bisexual claimants because of this knowledge, further disadvantaging this group of refugees. Rehaag observes that individuals seeking asylum on the basis of oppression for their bisexual tendencies have significantly higher rejection rates compared to other claimants. To investigate this assertion, Rehaag uses the queer theory as the main theoretical framework. According to Rehaag, the Queer theory is an interdisciplinary medium that examines the complex interactions between sexuality and gender, and conceptualizes such views of sexual orientation as essentialist. The essentialist view dichotomizes individuals as being either straight or gay on the basis of early childhood psychological factors or biological traits. Consequently, this essentialist argument comprehends sexual orientation as unchangeable and inflexible. Essentialists may, in selected instances, acknowledge groups beyond gay and straight, such as transgendered and bisexual individuals. (7) It is obvious then that since the beginning of the century, the United States has been a source of employment for Mexicans out of work and it is this attitude which has created the incentive for Mexican migration during the latter half of the century. Anti immigrant sentiments felt in America have much to do with this attitude. The fact is that most Mexicans immigrate to this country in search of employment and of a better life for their children, as do most other immigrants into the U.S . Pete Wilson, governor of California and an anti immigrant proponent, claims that the large numbers of immigrants settling in California are reeking havoc on its economy. • 44. Whaling In Japan Part III: What I Learned Whaling has become a popular topic with in the last few decades. It has been going on for centuries and was finally band in 1931 (Matera 3). But this didn t stop the Japanese at all. By researching my topic I found that I did not know a lot about whaling, which made me want to dig even deeper. At the beginning of this process, I looked into Whaling. I already knew that there was a war going on between Japan and the United States because of the show Whale Wars, but I didn t know any background information. I was always curious before but now I actually had a reason to do research. In Part I of this project it asked me to describe everything I knew, assumed, and imagined about whaling. During Part one I knew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I went to the Scottsdale Community College library website and searched whaling. All the sources I chosen was through Academic Search Premier. Every thing that I read put me in a new perspective about my topic. I learned that whaling has been going on since the eleventh century, and commercial whaling became illegal in 1931 (Matera 3). I found out that the United States actually whaled at some point but it was not for the meat, it was for the whale oil. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, whaling started to become a problem. During this time Japan started to be the main whaling country, this is when everything flipped upside down ( Greenpeace Says Japan Ready for Whaling. ). In another source I was reading, I found out that in the 1980s, eight countries joined the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to stop the world from whaling (Hyder 10). I also looked more into the Sea Shepherds. The Sea Shepherds are a full volunteer based program to go out into the artic and try and save as many whales as they can. Every year they go out and face Japan s whaling fleet, which are five boats against the SS three. I learned that Japan got very hostile in the last couple tours (Kita 3). They were ramming into the SS boats, even the little speedboat, which was an eighth of the size of their ship. When I was reading a different article called Whales , I learned that whales eat around forty thousand krill a day and if whales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Kevin Mitnick Case There is no one like Kevin. He was once included among the FBI s Most Wanted because he hacked into over 30 major corporations just for the challenge. After being caught and sentenced to jail for a few years, Kevin is now a trusted security consultant to the Fortune 500 and governments worldwide, as well as author to numerous books. (Mitnick, 2004, para. 1) Kevin Mitnick had his first major run in with the law in the late 1980s. At 25, Kevin was caught monitoring the e mail of MCI and Digital Equipment security officials, which led to his conviction of damaging computers and stealing software. The jury ruled him guilty and the judge sentenced him to one year in prison. (Trigaux, 2000, para. 13) One day after Valentine s Day in 1995, FBI ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model The engineering component of the Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model predicts wind and rain damage to a variety of modelled building configurations in an effort to model hurricane losses. The program uses a Monte Carlo approach to probabilistically simulating damage to the exterior components of the models, but currently assigns costs to the damaged components deterministically. This implementation does not capture variations in component costs and building values. This paper investigates replacing the deterministic costing with probabilistic relationships to more accurately reflect the uncertainty of the vulnerability outputs. The results indicate that cost variations do not significantly impact the variation of the vulnerability results. The conclusion of the paper presents possible explanations for this and recommendations for further investigation. The Florida Public Hurricane Loss Model (FPHLM) is a catastrophe model that predicts hurricane related insured losses to residential infrastructure in the state of Florida. Currently, the model analyses three different types of properties: personal residential buildings (single family buildings), commercial residential low rise buildings (multi family buildings), and commercial residential mid/high rise buildings (buildings in excess of 3 stories that house multiple families). The models consist of a meteorological (hazard) component, an engineering (building vulnerability) component, and an actuarial component. The FPHLM ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. An Exposition of Kant‚Äôs, Arendt‚Äôs, and Mill‚Äôs Moral... An Exposition of Kant s, Arendt s, and Mill s Moral Philosophy Immanuel Kant adheres to Deontological ethics. His theory offers a view of morality based on the principle of good will and duty. According to him, people can perform good actions solely by good intentions without any considerations to consequences. In addition, one must follow the laws and the categorical imperative in order to act in accordance with and from duty. Several other philosophers such as Hannah Arendt discuss Kant s moral philosophy. In her case study: The Accused and Duties of a Law Abiding Citizen , Arendt examines how Adolf Eichmann s actions conformed to Kant s moral precepts but also how they ran of afoul to his conception of duty. In contrast, John Stuart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kant s supreme principle of morality is also based on reason. According to him, acting on principle signifies that we should do something simply because it is the right thing to do. In addition, he argues that the morality of an act depends on a person s intentions. A moral act is one done for the right reasons, even if it has bad consequences or it is not in the agent s best interest. In other words, the highest function of reason is to establish good will, not happiness (Kant, P.96). In his view of morality, self interest and duty come into conflict since performing one s duty does not necessarily make someone or others happy. In fact, being ethical often hurts. Overall, happiness plays almost no role in Kant s morality. In his opinion, a good will is not good because it tries to promote some good end. Firstly, a good will is always good, good unconditionally, and never in any way bad. Secondly, all other goods, for instance, gifts of nature or fortune, are good only conditionally and are worthless or even bad when the relevant conditions are not satisfied. Lastly, the goodness of any conditioned good depends on it being combined with a good will. This concept of a will estimable in itself and good without regard to any further end is captured in Kant s first proposition: Only an act done from duty has moral worth (Kant, P.98). Having a good will is the condition to be satisfied for any other good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
