A Review of Maximum Power Point Tracking: Design and Implementationpaperpublications3
Abstract: Photovoltaic Energy is the most important Energy Resource since it is clean pollution free and inexhaustible. In recent years a large number of techniques have been proposed for tracking the Maximum Power Point. PV array has non-linear I-V characteristic and output power depends on environmental conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature. There is a point on I-V, P-V characteristic curve of PV array called as Maximum Power Point (MPP), where the PV system produces its maximum output power. Location of MPP changes with change in environmental condition. The purpose of MPPT is to adjust the solar operating voltage close to MPP under changing environmental conditions. In order to continuously gather the maximum power from the PV array, they have to operate at their MPPT despite of the inhomogeneous change in environmental conditions. The two most commonly algorithms for PV applications as they are easy to Implement are Beta method Incremental Conductance (Inc. Con.).Beta algorithm is a type of MPPT algorithm. It is having fast tracking ability. The algorithm has been verified on a photovoltaic system, A review of various MPPT algorithms is proposed with more focus on above two algorithms.

This paper presents an online efficiency optimization method for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive system in an electric vehicle (EV). The proposed method considers accurately the total system losses including fundamental copper and iron losses, harmonic copper and iron losses, magnet loss, and inverter losses. Therefore, it has the capability to always guarantee maximum efficiency control. A highly trusted machine model is built using finite element analysis (FEA). This model considers accurately the magnetic saturation, spatial harmonics, and iron loss effect. The overall system efficiency is estimated online based on the accurate determination of system loss, and then the optimum current angle is defined online for the maximum efficiency per ampere (MEPA) control. A series of results is conducted to show the effectiveness and fidelity of proposed method. The results show the superior performance of proposed method over the conventional offline efficiency optimization methods.

A multidisciplinary teaching method in the aerospace engineering systems fiel...Altair
The purpose of this paper is to present the effectiveness of a new teaching methods through all the graduation process for engineering students, ranging from the BSc to the MSc level.
Two hundred undergraduate students in aerospace engineering at the Politecnico di Torino were involved in this teaching process. The paper presents the organization of the learning process through the different academic years.
The process implicates theoretical lectures, computer laboratories, and experimental workbench, and shows how different multidisciplinary concepts and models, useful for the aerospace systems design, can be presented and then worked again in the next courses. In particular, an example concerning the flight control system is presented underlining how the models can be introduced at the third year, with the support of some engineering tools, and then reprised and developed in more details at the fifth year, with an effective and quick heritage of knowledge.

Ro-Pax, i.e. roll on/roll off passenger vessels, typically sail short distances from island to island in an archipelago. The operating profiles for the vessels are constantly changing, which sets challenges for energy efficiency and fuel consumption. C&A Electric and Vacon Korea have designed an efficient energy production solution to improve shaft generator usability. This is used on two Ro-Pax vessels built for the Attica Group1, the parent company of Blue Star Ferries.

Digital Signal Processing - Practical Techniques, Tips and Tricks Course SamplerJim Jenkins
The goal of this 3-day course is to Introduce, explain, and demonstrate powerful, proven techniques, tips and “tricks of the trade” that can dramatically improve accuracy, speed and efficiency in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications.
The concepts are first presented using many colorful, clear figures along with plain English explanations and real-world examples. They are next demonstrated using clearly written MATLAB programs (with graphics). This way the student sees the key equations “in action” which increases intuitive understanding and learning speed. These (free) working programs can also be later modified or adapted by the student for customized, site specific use.
Each student will receive extensive course slides, a CD with MATLAB m-files for demonstration and later adaptation, supplementary materials and references to aid in the understanding and application of these “techniques, tips, and tricks” and a copy of the instructor’s latest book “The Essential Guide to Digital Signal Processing”.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
