The document discusses the life cycle of stars from birth to death. It explains that stars are born from clouds of gas and dust called nebulae, where gravity causes the matter to contract and form hot spheres. If the centers grow dense enough, nuclear fusion begins and the stars enter the main sequence stage. Lower mass stars like our sun remain in the main sequence for billions of years, while higher mass stars use their energy faster and have shorter lifespans. In later stages, higher mass stars expand and explode as supernovae, while lower mass stars end their lives as white or black dwarfs.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2. History Of Sam Phillips
Sam Phillips founded Memphis Recording Services in the early 1950s to record any and every
artist interested in performing at his studio, he had no particular limits on who the artists were
expected to be or what they were supposed to be singing as long as they made him money. The
early years would be spent primarily recording bluesartists such as B. B. King, Rufus Thomas,
Rosco Gordon, Joe Hill Louis, and Howlin Wolf. Sam Phillips vision was to bring artists as well
as genres together and work alongside them with the objective to create an entirely new style of
music. The studio s name was later changed to Sun Studios, a name that would end up leaving a
legacy that introduced the world to some of the founding fathers and mothers of rock and roll. Of

His philosophy was similar to that of Sam Phillips in that he was willing to accept artists from
anywhere on his way to the top, if he could profit from an artist, a deal could be made. He
differed from Sun Studios with his approach to as well as appreciation for artists though as he
was careless and burned relationships with supremely talented artists. He grew up in the Bronx
playing guitar and piano and composed music while still in his teenage years, all of which
proved to be important tools in his producing studio. He reportedly had the extraordinary ability
to organize music with artists to perfection in addition to a recording technique that some referred
to as the Wall of Sound. Basically, the wall of sound was a unique style resembling a raucous roar
which was created by many instruments being played as loudly as possible, mixed with an echoing
effect. Phil Spector s success is evidenced by the many top hits he orchestrated though his studio by
artists such as the Crystals, Ronettes, Righteous Brothers, and Ike and Tina

4. Thermo-Chemical Storage Systems Essay
Thermochemical heat storage can be physical (sorptive) or chemical based on the material used.
The storage system which does not involve the production of new compound is called sorptive
storage while those which involve formation of new compound are called chemical storage. The
successful thermochemical storage system is sorptive storage system that works on utilizing the heat
of reaction enthalpy. Thermochemical storage has considerable benefits when compared to sensible
and the latent heat thermal energystorage systems since it is easily controllable which prevents the
heat loss. The features of sorptive heat storage technology enables the implementation on a large
scale.
Firstly, charging process of the thermochemical storage method... Show more content on

The features like increased storage capacity, decreased heat loss to the environment and flexibility
of heat storage over a wide range of temperatures makes the thermochemical storage system superior
to other storage systems.
The sorptive technology involves the absorption or adsorption of molecules through a reaction
thereby storing heat. This kind of sorption system results in the formation of physical bond
between the reaction pair, adsorbent (A) and adsorptive (B), which has a preferably high energy
turnover. The preferred reaction is mostly reversible in order to perform many charge and
discharge cycles.
A + B ↔ AB + heat (see Figure 2) Figure 2: Schematic diagram of sorptive thermal energy storage
technology
When charging the compound, heat is applied to substance AB which dissociate into separate A
and B molecule/compound. The storage is facilitated by using certain inhibitors that control the
reverse reaction. To release heat, the A and B components are reacted by removal of inhibitors,
ultimately favoring the reaction, resulting in the formation of compound AB and releasing heat.
During this cyclic process, when the reaction between A and B is prevented, the heat which can
be stored due to chemical energy cannot be released. The adsorbent such as zeolite (see Figure 3)
react with water thereby act as a sorptive storage material where adsorption of water

Globalisation and higher education funding policy shifts in Kenya
Gerald Wangenge Ouma*
Faculty of Education, University of the Western Cape, Bellville, South Africa This paper identifies,
examines and discusses higher education funding policy shifts that have taken place in Kenya. The
paper argues that even though Kenya s higher education funding policy shifts, from free higher
education to cost sharing, and privatisation and commercialisation, are (to a greater extent) products
of the country s encounter with globalisation, local social, political and economic dynamics have
been of equally significant influence. Thus, the country s higher ... Show more content on

Thus, globalisation is a dynamic of various interlinked processes operating on a planetary scale. The
various dynamics of globalisation, always operating simultaneously, have serious implications for,
and influences on, higher education (Altbach, 2004; Maasen Cloete, 2002; Marginson Rhoades,
2002; Vaira, 2004). For this paper, the important question is: How are the forces driving the
(financial) restructuring of higher education being driven by processes of globalisation? The
dynamics of globalisation circumscribe the various education policy shifts witnessed recently in
education, in general, and higher education, in particular. Therefore, globalisation has become a key
concept with which to interpret, inter alia, policy changes affecting higher education. Some of the
aspects of globalisation impacting upon higher education include the hegemonic rise of English as
the language of scientific communication (Altbach, 2004), advancements in information
communication and technology, and the hegemonic rise of neo liberalism as the de facto
economic mode of the late twentieth century and the twenty first century (Castells, 1996;
Friedman, 1999; Fukuyama, 1992; Scholte, 1997; 2000). As far as higher education funding
policies are concerned, the establishment of neo liberalism as the de facto economic mode could
be said to be of the greatest impact (Carnoy, 2000; Henry et al. 2001; Maasen

7. In the Kitchen Analysis Essay
Throughout essay In the Kitchen, Henry Louis Gates Junior recalls a time when he and his friends
and family constantly tried to straighten their African American kinky hair. They did this to try to
fit in with white people. The writer is using his personal experience as an African American
straightening his hair to show how black peoplefelt about assimilating into white society. It was
very difficult for blacks to fit in with white peoplebut he remembers how this difficult time brought
the black community together. The writer starts off the essay in the kitchen of his own house with
his mother straightening her friends hair with what they call a hot comb (323). The writer starts in

He does, however, check his daughter s head himself for that extra kinky bit of hair, reflecting
his own up bringing. Gates also writes about a time when he was at his uncle s house to watch
television. While they were all watching, they saw Nat King Cole, a famous singer with patent
leather hair (328). His hair was processed, but not to the point where it looked completely like
white peoples hair. It still looked somewhat natural. Back then, it was rare for an African
American to be seen on television as Cole was. This shows the slow transition of blacks
becoming accepted into white society. While Gates writes about his family was watching Cole
on television it shows the togetherness of that time of trying to fit in with the whites. Doing
everyone s hair in the kitchen also shows how the black community was brought together at this
time. The writer misses this later in life as one can tell by how he writes about checking his own
daughter s hair for the kitchen. The writer also refers to an incident where he is sitting in an
Arab restaurant listening to the radio. He writes about how he almost cried as the song Fly Me
to the Moon by Nat King Cole came on. This nostalgic memory hints that he liked how the blacks
all tried to fit in with the whites together. Gates different personal experiences help the reader to
feel how he felt during the time of black assimilation into white society as well as how he feels
now that black

8. The Treatment Of The Mentality Of Hamlet And Prince Hamlet
Mental health disorders manifest through every part of the body altering the way a person is able
to function. The body reacts the way that the mind tells it to, and when the mind is corrupt
complications arise within the individuals causing potentially life altering diseases and impulsive
actions (Civil Rights Union, 2016). Hamlets erratic behaviors have proved that he has gone
completely mad. He has depression over his father s death, and his constant mentions of suicide.
He also has borderline personality disorder due to the ghost of his father visiting leaving stress,
and anxiety towards the task of killing his uncle for revenge, being the reason it took Hamlet so
long to complete this. We see his feelings of intense emotions of insanity, love, and shame
demonstrated and through this we are able to negate that something was wrong mentally. When
we first join Prince Hamlet in the play we see that his father King Hamlet has passed recently.
After King Hamlets passing, his wife Queen Gertrude has already been remarried to King Hamlet
s brother Claudius. Prince Hamlet has carried a deal of built up aggression around from these
events, because he feels like Claudius has brain washed his mother, just so that he can take the
thrown. Prince Hamlet also feels like his mother has betrayed his father, and the loss of his father
has been weighing heavily on his mind. As if these events haven t caused Prince Hamlet enough
traumatic stress, he ends up meeting his father in ghost

9. Ruth And Babe Ruth
Many would say baseball, America s pastime, is dead; furthermore, there are those who say that
the professional athletes are no longer our role models. Athletes are said to have no respect,
dignity, or love for the game. The critics who state that, have never been to a Major League Baseball
stadium. Yankee Stadium, where an entire organization reminds you from the moment you step in
the park that there still are those things in every single game played by each team. Not only is the
sport alive and well, but honor, love, respect, and dignity are exemplified through all competitive
teams.
Baseball use to be one of the best games to play and watch as Americans. Being one of the first
professional sports, it represented who we are as a country. Through baseball, it showed the honor
and respect athletes and fans have for this country. However, this sport seems to be gradually
disappearing to something athletes got paid to do; though, throughout baseball s long life, there are
many athletes who still care about the game. All the way from the early 1900s, with Babe Ruth or
Lou Gehrig, to the more present times, with Jose Fernandez, David Ortiz, or Derek Jeter, they
bring back the deceased game and put meaning into it, making it the most enjoyable it has ever
been.
Babe Ruth was arguably one of the best players known. He showed up to every ball park, playing
that game as if it were his last. Ruth exemplified dignity and love throughout his many years of
baseball. Being

10. Stars Life Cycle
Stars are born of gas and dust and have a life cycle based on their original mass. Stars are not
alive, but they go through stages. There are many sources that prove that this fact is true! These
sources include the life cycle of stars, star classification, and types of galaxies. These different life
cycles are for the high mass stars and the low mass stars.
There are 3 types of galaxies. These galaxies are Irregular, Spiral, and Elliptical. Irregular galaxies
have no defined shape and have mostly new stars. Spiral galaxies have a spiral shape and have
mostly medium aged stars. Lastly, Elliptical galaxies are shaped like a sphere and hold mostly old
aged stars.
The stars are born from gas and dust. Even the sun formed this way. Stars are also classified by
color, temp., luminosity, and distance from the earth. Stars form inside a cloud of dust called a
Nebula. Gravity pulls gas and dust closer together in some place of the Nebula. When the matter
contracts, it forms a hot sphere. Did you know the color of the star is the effect of the temperature

11. Lewis and Clark Expedition
James Jang William and Meriwether, better known as Lewis and Clark, were hired by the U.S.
president Thomas Jefferson to explore the newly bought Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana
Purchase was bought from France in 1803. Lewis and Clark started their expedition in 1804
near St. Louis. The group of explorers called themselves the corps of discovery. In the first
winter they were helped by a Shoshone Indian named Sacagawea. Their journey was full of
trouble and challenges but in the end led to a great discovery that changed the lives and beliefs
of people everywhere. Their expedition stretched from camp wood to fort Clatsop. Lewis and
Clark knew each other from the war where Clark was under William Lewis s command later then
Thomas Jefferson recruited Clark to lead this exploration and then he went to William Lewis to
ask him to come along with him. Their expedition was full of confusing water ways that could
potentially ruin their exploration for the most convenient route through the Louisiana Purchase.
One problem was that America claimed parts of land that were occupied by the Native
Americans; this was a problem because this caused many disputes between Americans and the
Natives that lived there. This expedition was not to find trade roots or to search for science but
was to discover the Louisiana Purchase. In May of 1804 the expedition started off in camp Dubois

12. Porter s Five Forces Of Competition Model In The Airline...
2.1 Industry environment
The industry analysis can be performed by evaluating the ability of all firms to operate profitably
within the airline industry. Porter s five forces of competition model is a perfect tool to perform
such analysis. The threat of new entrants is moderately high since President Carter signed the Airline
Deregulation Act in 1978, removing U.S Federal Government control over fares, routes and
market entry. Therefore, the industry has become less regulated and allowed many new firms to
enter the market. Thus, the airline industry requires a lot of capital investments which can
disinterest some investors. The bargaining power of buyers rests in the hands of the customers
by reducing the price or by asking greater levels of service. It is highly powerful because
customers can easily switch to another airline or even another transportation method. They also
have the option to deal with a travel agencies that will recommend the best airline according to
their needs. The bargaining power of suppliers is high because it is dominated by few large
companies. Airbus and Boeing are two manufacturers that have both created a duopoly for the past
15 years in the supply of aircraft (business insider, 2017). The threat of substitute is very high,
especially in short haul. There are many alternatives to air travel such as driving, taking the train or
the bus. The intensity of rivalry among competitors is also high because there are numerous
competitors selling a

13. Essay on Definition of Home Schooling
Definition of Home Schooling
What is home schooling? Home schooling is defined as a provision of compulsory education in the
home as an alternative to traditional public/private schooling often motivated by parental desire to
exclude their children from the traditional school environment (Education Resources Information
Center (ERIC), 1999).
Parents homeschool their children in many different ways. The techniques vary from traditional
ways of teaching using textbooks, to community activism, to the study of classic literature and
Latin, and many versions in between (Ransom, 2001; Izhizuka et. al., 2000).

al, 2000).
The state of Maryland does not set forth any specific qualifications that must be met by the person
homeschooling a child. In contrast, the person home schooling a child in Virginia must have at
least a four year college degree, use a pre approved curriculum course, or have their curriculum pre
approved before the start of the school year. Students in Virginia are also required to receive
instruction for the same number of days as those children in public schools. Virginia homeschoolers
are required to take one state test, in which they must score in the 40th percentile of the test
population (which is given to all Virginia students) to continue homeschooling through the next
year (Ishizuka et. al., 2000). District of Columbia law sets no specific requirements for the person
homeschooling the child and does not test the children being homeschooled in any way.
Reasons Parents Choose to Homeschool
One homeschooling mother says public schools have forgotten about educating (Cloud et. al.,
2001). Some parents are scared to send their children to public schools, due to the number of school
shootings that have occurred within the last 10 years (Parents Shout Out, 2001). After the shootings
in Littleton, Colorado, some homeschooling leaders reported a growing number of parents
inquiring about home educating their children (Ishizuka et. al., 2000).

14. Immigration Protest
Introduction:
A day without immigrants protest was one that spread an ideal ology throughout businesses and
labor force. The goal of this protest was to unite as immigrants and show what kind of hit the
economy and labor force would take if immigrants weren t there to fuel it. This has taken place
twice in recent history, once on May 1, 2006 and recently on February 21, 2017. One could argue
whether they are successful in their efforts to show how important immigration is to the American
economy.
Background studies:
Immigrants make up 12 percent of the population and more than 17 percent of the working
population. This means that based on population immigrants are more involved in the workforce
than natives themselves. With trump getting elected to Presidency, and his views on immigration
control and it being viewed as discrimination, one could say that he is just putting fuel on the flame.
According to Moriah Butler, Immigration protest are viewed by the general public in a disruptive
manner with people saying that there will never be a right time to protest (Butler 1.)
Jose Andres is a different case in many opinions. Andres owns a restaurant and for the protests he
shut down his business in order to show his employees that he cares about them. According to him
he has workers that have been with him for 25 or more years. He says that he owes it to them to
show that he cares because they have stuck with him in good and bad times, and have put in more

15. Overview of Creationists Concepts
Creationists believe that memory is a God given figt to help us in our lives, including our
worship of the Lord. As pointed out in a radio program produced by the Institute for Creation
Research, all of us are urged, through Scripture, to remember what our God has done for us and
what we need to do to live as good Christians. As stated by Dr. Allen Gillen, our memories allow
us to store and retrieve information. Some scientists call the mind a computer; creation
scientists believe that the mind itself is not a computer, but rather has a computer, which is our
brain. Each type of memory has a specific purpose in our lives. As a person studies, whether it is
a college course or Scripture, he or she forms a memory trace, or synapse, which can be likened
to forming a path through the woods. When someone walks often on the trail forged, the path
becomes clearer and more distinct. Failure to visit the path neglecting to study causes the path to
become weedy and more difficult to see. Learning takes place when the memory trace is solidly
established and thus more easily recalled. As pointed out, the more one reads and studies, the more
synapses are made. Interesting, many connections are made at once in the wake of a sensational
event, which explains why nearly everyone can remember whether they were and what they were
doing when they heard about the terrible devastation of September 11. According to a recent article
in Psychology Today, research shows that when we see others

On 29th May of May 2017, I had planned to visit the Dallas Art Museum. I was very excited to
visit the Museum because this was my first visit to the museum of Dallas after I had been in the
United States as an international student. I am very much interested in the arts and history
around the globe. Therefore, I was very happy and excited when I knew that the visit to Dallas
Art Museum was also the part of my graded college assignment. I reached the Dallas Art Museum
at 12:30 pm and I parked my car in the parking under the building of the museum where I paid
twelve dollars for the entry. I went up to the entrance gate of the museum through the stairs. Right
next to the entrance gate, I saw the name of that building was The Nancy And Jake L. Hamon
Building as written on the wall. Just straight ahead of the building, there was a colorful painting
on the wall and on the right, visitors were enjoying the food in the chair outside the building. As I
entered the building, I felt the atmosphere peaceful and calm at that moment. I saw many visitors
and security around the building so that I felt free and secure when I walked around the museum.
There was a help center on the right where staffs are having conversation with the visitors. As I
walked ahead, there I saw the museum store on my left and the white statue of Semiramis , queen
of Assyria carved with the marble few ahead of the store. When I was going through level 1, I saw

Juveniles Tried as Adults in Criminal Court Approximately two million adolescents a year are
arrested and out of that two million, 60,000 of them are incarcerated according to the American
Journal of Public Health. The 60,000 incarcerated adolescents each year are being tried as adults in
court because of the serious crimes they have committed. The crimes they have committed are
anything from armed robbery to murder. Some juveniles might be first time offenders and others
might be repeat offenders. Crimes have always been a major issue in the United States and can
cause controversy in the criminal justicesystem. Charging a minor as an adult in criminal court
varies from state to state based on each state s jurisdiction. Some states consider anyone up to the
age of 18 still a juvenile and would not be charged as an adult in criminal court, but other states
may charge a juvenile as an adult at the age of 16 or 17. Jordan (2014) states, Although states
already had methods for transferring youth to the adult system, as a result of the growing fear of
juvenile violence, most states implemented new laws to increase the number of youth entering the
adult criminal system (Bernard Kurlychek, 2010; Torbet et al., 1996) (p. 315). While it sounds
beneficial to incarcerate more adolescents in the adult criminal justice system to avoid juveniles
from committing crimes in the future, that is not always the case. Incarcerating these juveniles can

At the rate the world is going at now, it is not far fetched to believe that in a few years the world
population could be at ten billion. In order to support all ten billion of these people, actions need to
be taken to ensure everyone will be fed. Some techniques to ensure food security include producing
and supporting the production of genetically modified foods, implicating the practice of urban
farming and aquaculture, better management of wasted foods and educating the general population
on foodwaste. One solution to help feed the global population is implementing the production of
genetically modified foods. A genetically modified foodis an organism in which the genetic
material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural
recombination. Genetically modified crops have been produced since 1994 and have many
benefits to them compared to regular crops. Many genetically modified crops have been altered
so the plant has a stronger resilience to insects, are more tolerable to herbicides, extreme weather
conditions and have a longer shelf life. With a longer shelf life, the crops are able to be exported
to more remote locations without spoiling, providing food to places that lack the ability to grow
their own crops. Since these crops are more resilient to insects, the amount of toxic bacteria that is
added to help repel the insects is decreased. Plants being stronger and more buoyant to common

J M. Barrie s Peter Pan is a poignant tale about the magic of childhood. The main character, Peter
Pan, is a magical boy who wishes never to fall into the banality of adulthood, but to have an
adventure every moment and remain forever young. The play details Peter s relationship with a
young girl, Wendy, who is on the cusp of young adulthood. Peter s gang, the Lost Boys, wish for a
mother to read them stories. Peter goes and retrieves Wendy to be their new mother. Their
adventures reveal much about the nature of childhood and Barrie s thoughts on the bittersweet
necessity of growing up.

When one plays pretend as a child, anything is possible. Barrie has such a thorough understanding
of a child s mind that he creates a fantasy land that we all remember. In this manner, Barrie creates
credibility for his argument on the importance of putting away childish things at the appropriate
time.
Barrie expresses the core of his argument through the actions of the children and Peter himself.
Throughout the play, the reader observes many instances of the children playing grown up.
When Peter first brings Wendy to Never Land, we see Slightly, one of the Lost Boys, playing
doctor (69 70). This shows a fundamental need to grow up and find your purpose or profession.
In many of the different acts the reader also sees the children pretending to have a family. The
best example of this is in pages 98 118. The Lost Boys and Wendy s creation of a family reflects not
only the children s need for a family, but their need to grow up and create families of their own.
In this scene, one of the Lost Boys, Michael, states his wish to grow up when he says Wendy, I am
too big for a cradle (101). Even Peter, who claims he wants to always be a little boy and to have fun
reveals that he once wanted to return to reality as well (113). On page 110, Peter says that after

22. Symbolism In Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour
There are many phrases in the English language that, when analyzed, don t make sense at all.
For example, the kiss of death is one of these phrases. Typically we think of a kiss as something
nice, a way of affection from a partner, a parent, grandparent, or even friend. So pairing this
joyful word with something that so many people dread is admittedly an odd choice. Used as a
marking of fate, a kiss of death is a concept that seems very taboo, but really this comparison of
light and dark has been used more often than we may think. In Kate Chopin s short story, The Story
of an Hour, she utilizes imagery by using language that is often self contradictory. With her
combination of dark and cheerful imagery, Chopin creates a very uneasy mood throughout the story
that helps to reflect Mrs. Mallards emotional conflict with her physical surroundings.
After Mr. Mallards announced death, Chopin used the sky as a type of symbolic imagery. In a state
of suspension, Mrs. Mallard stood at the open window, looking out at the scenery in front of her
house. As she looked out the window, she saw that There were patches of blue sky showing here
and there through the clouds that had met and piled one above the other, (Chopin 1). In this
example, Chopin uses her imagery to reflect the stress that is being lifted from Mrs. Mallard. Over
the course of her marriage, Louise Mallard had been suppressing these feelings of entrapment,
causing them to build on themselves like the heavy weight

24. Bandura Social Learning Theory
Social learning theory (SLT), developed by psychologist Albert Bandura in 1977, laid the
framework by which people learn by observing a set of behaviors believed to be acceptable or
unacceptable (Wulfert, 2016). To further understand SLT, this paper discusses the concepts and
principles behind Bandura s theory, reviews its contribution to human behaviors, critiques it, and
considers the roles social learning plays in diversity, as well as in equality in economic and social
justice.
Social Learning Theory s Main Concepts and Principles SLT is grounded in the fact that humans
acquire behaviors throughout their lifetime by acquiring knowledge through observation and
modeling. People socially influence each other through their interactions, and typically change their
desirable behaviors due to positive or negative outcomes observed (Nabavi, 2012). Bandura notes
the fundamental elements of SLT include interaction of both individuals and situations. Learning
the effects of SLT from observing others behaviors and situations can directly influence a person s
choice, as both parts are a result of the other (Hanna, Crittenden, Crittenden, 2013). There are three
main principles Bandura proposed for SLT: a person s ability to learn through observation, self
regulation, and reciprocal determinism. People can learn new behavior through observation; this
can be acquired through direct or indirect observation (Grusec, 1992). This can be seen in Bandura
s Bobo doll experiment, in

28. Rocket Boys Character Analysis
During the 1950s, the American family structure was strongly patriarchal in which the man of
the house went to work to provide for his family, his wife stayed at home to take care of the
house and kids, and the kids were expected to go to school and be very well disciplined and
respectable. Even in the coal towns of Central Appalachia this familyorientation was prevalent, as
such the children of the miners were set too standards that would carry this structure on for many
decades. When a child finds that they do not meet the expectations that are levied upon him/her
by their parents and the rest of the community their life is made difficult as they struggle to find
who they truly are and still try to live up to what others expect. This is exactly the case that
Homer Sonny Hickam Jr. finds himself in. Through his memoir, Rocket Boys, Homer Hickam
retells the story of his youth as a boy struggling through life trying to become who he wants to be
while his father tries to push him to be who he is expected to be.
In the small coal towns of West Virginia, the youth was expected to primarily do one of two
things. Which one you were expected of depended upon your gender, if you were male you were
expected to graduate high school, maybe, and then go into the mines to dig coal like your father
and his father before him. If you were female you were expected to graduate high school and then
marry a miner and raise his kids and care for his house just like your mother and her mother before
her. For Sonny though we know from the very first page that his parents had opposing ideas of
what was expected of him as he writes, I didn t know that my hometown was at war with itself
over its children and that my parents were locked in a kind of bloodless combat over how my
brother and I would live our lives (Hickam 1). Just a few pages later it is discovered that his mother
wanted Sonny to pursue something other than mining and exactly what boys of Coalwood were
expected to do; Almost all of the grown up boys I knew had either joined the military services or
gone to work in the mine. I had no idea what the future held in store for me. The only thing I knew
for sure was my mother did not see me going into the mine (Hickam

Block C placement was organised for me to do training at respiratory ward, general surgery

Whereas in other wards I did medicinereconciliation, attended ward rounds as well as did patient

other primary care units.
I felt different in this block of placement in many ways. That was because I had a plan for it as I

reason made me impressed is that, most of the tutorials done were related to the placement I do,
this could aid me to underpin the information given in a tutorial to a practical scene. For

The United States Effect on Puerto Rican Music The United States played an important role in the
evolution of Puerto Rican culture, more specifically music. While Puerto Rican culture remains
distinct from that of American culture, its historical progression is forever tied with that of the
United States. This is evident in the evolution of PuertoRican music. It is also evident in the
experience of Puerto Rican musiciansboth on the island and in the Diaspora. U.S rule was in part

As the island s regional populations transformed due to these migrations, older forms of music
declined, and new variations of music were created with new content and context. Other U.S.
influenced factors contributing to this situation were trade routes, and advances in transportation
and roadbuilding. These new variations of Puerto Rican music became part of Puerto Rican culture.
Yet, had it not been for United States interference in the lives of Puerto Ricans, these particular
musical forms never would have developed.
United States rule gave rise to municipal bands in Puerto Rico. Under U.S. colonialism, the
Catholic Church in Puerto Rico decreased in power. As a result, composers and musicians who
found work and publicity through church sponserings of their bands no longer had this as a option.
Regimental bands also disappeared under U.S. rule. Therefore, musicians and composers had to
form municipal bands as a means of displaying their talents, making a living on the island, and
training future generations of musicians.
The United States also made direct contributions to the music itself. U.S. soldiers brought with them

these models brought by the Americans, and sometimes combined them with older forms of music.

What are the positive and negative impacts of the U.S. economy on the world?
Introduction:
The USA is the leader of the earthly concern economy. It has the largest and strongest economy in
the world, because United States has GDP per capita $49,800 (The World Factbook). The USA is
an engine of world economy, the reason of changing and permutation of economic situation. The
United States of America very strongly influences world economy. Many international and world
transactions pass in US dollar. The increase and fall of dollar changes all world economy. All

And the USA is a most large exporter of agricultural products. The America has 35% of world
export of wheat, 69% of corn, soybeans, 25% of cotton, 18% of rice, 12% of tobacco (National
Agricultural Statistics Services). If it does not help or not give the chance to them to pass the USA
in the international transactions they can lose competitiveness and remain in the same level. The
network of the international production created by means of direct foreign investments, in
economic literature it is accepted to call the second economy. Development of economy of the
majority of the countries is based on achievements of scientific and technical progress, use of
scientific data. 70% of scientific information contain in the American databanks (About the USA).
As even in Europe and Japan there are no equivalent databanks, still a long time their scientists,
engineers and businessmen will continue to get knowledge generally from the American sources.
The US dollar is used in the majority of the international transactions and therefore that happens to
the American economy, will influence the international financial resources. Dollars bring big
consequences both for the USA and for other countries. The economy of many countries depends
on currency dollar. The increase in its course reduces the volume of the income in dollars for the
country. And change of US dollar more considerably, than change of an exchange rate of the

32. Tariffs on Imports
In simplest terms, a tariff is a tax. It adds to the cost of imported goods and is one of several trade
policies that a country can enact. Tariffs are often created to protect infant industries and
developing economies, but are also used by more advanced economies with developed industries.
Here are five of the top reasons tariffs are used: Protecting Domestic Employment The levying of
tariffs is often highly politicized. The possibility of increased competition from imported goods can
threaten domestic industries. These domestic companies may fire workers or shift production
abroad to cut costs, which means higher unemployment and a less happy electorate. The
unemployment argument often shifts to domestic industries complaining... Show more content on

The 15% is a price increase on the value of the automobile, so a $10,000 vehicle now costs
$11,500 to Japanese consumers. This price increase protects domestic producers from being
undercut, but also keeps prices artificially high for Japanese car shoppers. Non tariff barriers to
trade include: Licenses A license is granted to a business by the government, and allows the
business to import a certain type of good into the country. For example, there could be a
restriction on imported cheese, and licenses would be granted to certain companies allowing
them to act as importers. This creates a restriction on competition, and increases prices faced by
consumers. Import Quotas An import quota is a restriction placed on the amount of a particular
good that can be imported. This sort of barrier is often associated with the issuance of licenses.
For example, a country may place a quota on the volume of imported citrus fruit that is allowed.
Voluntary Export Restraints (VER) This type of trade barrier is voluntary in that it is created by
the exporting country rather than the importing one. A voluntary export restraint is usually
levied at the behest of the importing country, and could be accompanied by a reciprocal VER.
For example, Brazil could place a VER on the exportation of sugar to Canada, based on a request
by Canada. Canada could then place a VER on the exportation of coal to Brazil. This increases the
price of both coal and sugar, but protects the

33. How Does Durden Create Identity In Fight Club
Fight Club was a movie created to have a plethora of ideas regarding societies views on ideal men,
social anarchy, poor health care and consumerism. However, the movies main idea regarding
consumerism is that consumerism is a sickness stripping people, mainly men, of their identity,
sanity and empathy. Throughout the movie there are countless examples with the main character
and his followers who are willing it give their lives for a new identity out of consumerism. This is
strongly seen with the main character Tyler Durden who reinvents himself into two people. One
identity Durden creates is how appears naturally, which is someone tiny, and who works for a
consumer society. The other identity is someone who is more sexually attractive, stronger... Show

Before the two different identities collided both were set up as unsympathetic with others. The
first identity didn t even care for others at the support groups who were truly suffering physically
or biologically. He was territorial when it came to Marla appearing at the support groups instead
of trying to relate that she might have the same issues that he does. Then the second identity
feels the need to torture others in the consumer society by inserting porn into movies or peeing
in soups. These identity s have no moralities when it came to others in the consumer society.
Only till the end of the movie did each of these identities tries to begin to do a bit more good
than bad. The first identity begins to feel more sympathetic when a man he knew dies. Also a
notable change in the first identity is that he tries to save Marla from himself. While the second
identity clears out people from the buildings that he is going to blow up, but could care less of
the death of bob, who is a member of his team. This implies that anyone else who dies from this
project will get no sympathy from the second identity. Thus, in the movie the lack of empathy is an

Thus far in the course we have learned how important it is to have basic knowledge on various
cultures that we may encounter as therapists. According to Choudhuri, Santiago Rivera, Garrett

beliefs, religious and spiritual traditions, psychological processes, values, and practices.
Moreover, it is a way of life that is shaped by ecological, historical, economic, and political factors
on a specific group of people (Choudhur et al., 2012). I have learned culturegoes beyond just race

In terms of sources, I happened to find two interesting articles exploring cultural components of a
Spanish supermarket. The first article I looked at was one that was a study of that what Spanish
consumers think about organic food. I choose this article because I was interested in exploring if
Spanish food can be healthy or organic. While I was in the market, I saw plenty of vegetables and
produce, but I was unsure if there were any organic products. The article explored the view of
organic food on the Spanish culture (Vega‐Zamora, Torres‐Ruiz, Murgado‐Armenteros,
Parras‐Rosa, 2014). It was viewed as higher value and more expensive product. Due to this view
of organic food, consumption is greatly impacted in the Spanish culture. Similar to the article

36. Importance Of Proofs Of Teaching Mathematical Proofs
For many math students around the world, proofs are dreaded; they are seen as pointless
memorization of obvious ideas. These are most student s beliefs because they have never truly
been taught or experienced the true purposes of proofs. Zaslavsky, Nickerson, Stylianides, Kidron,
and Winicki Landman (2012) write to discuss the importance of teaching mathematical proofs in
school. They continue on to express reasons why students need proofs and the multiple ways in
which teachers can facilitate the learning and importance of proofs to their students. Zaslavsky et
al. (2012) cite numerous reasons for the importance of proofs, but the most prominent reasons
include strengthening student s ability to communicate mathematical knowledge, to instill
problem solving skills and methods, and lastly, to fulfill human intellectual needs. Each of these
reasons have been supported by research, and also come with challenges and concerns. The
most basic reason Zaslavsky et al. (2012) cite as to why proofs should be taught in school is
because doing so can increase and strengthen student s abilities to communicate mathematical
knowledge. Most students are more than capable of applying formulas and solving the problems
presented to them in classes with a little practice. A majority of these students, however, have no
clue as to why the methods they are using work, or if they will work with any set of numbers they
are presented (Yopp, 2009). Proof researcher David Yopp (2009) has observed

37. Argumentative Essay About Pennies
To American Citizens,
Chance are, you ve likely used a penny in your lifetime. Everywhere you look, you ll find pennies.
Between your couch cushions or on the street, pennies are everywhere. But have you ever thought,
how much do pennies cost, and why do we still use them? We need to get the United States Mint to
stop production of the penny and slowly take it out of circulation. This is only possible if we all
band together and demand a change in our currency.
Before we finally agree to do away with the penny, let s learn a little bit more about its history. The
penny, the first currency of any type authorized by the U.S. government, was initially struck in
1787, though it didn t become legal tender until 1856. Since then, more than 300 billion one cent
coins have been minted. Abraham Lincoln became the first U.S. president to adorn a coin when
he was put on the penny in 1909 on the 100th anniversary of his birth (he wasn t added to the $5
bill until 1914). The Lincoln penny was also the first to include the inscription In God We Trust (
Should We Eliminate the Penny? ) If the penny seems like an ancient artifact, that s because it is.

Using Mnemonic Devices to Improve Recall in Middle School Science Sarah Brown Eastern
Illinois University ELE 5250 Literature Review Science in the classroom is being recognized as
an integral part of education. Recent revisions to standards and standardized tests are including
more scientific content. The reason science education is so important is because it prepares
students to be informed citizens and knowledgeable consumers (National Governors Association
Center for Best Practices Council of Chief State School [NGA CCSS], 2010). Americans are
competing globally for jobs focused in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math,
also known as STEM jobs. Improving recall of academic language used in the science classroom
can help students meet and exceed their science standards. Similarly, the goal of Common Core
State Standards is to ensure students are prepared for today s entry level careers, freshman level
college courses, and workforce training programs (Common Core State Standard Initiative, 2010).
Both sets of standards understand the importance of critical thinking and analytical skills in
everyday life. Science in the classroom is a way to practice these problem solving skills because it
lends itself to hands on experience. Mnemonic Devices Science content incorporates terms that are
unknown by most students. Finding ways to connect new science terms to pre existing

Observing others behaviors lets one realize and understand more about different types and kinds of
people. Seeing how certain groups or communities act or react to situations lets us see more
perspective and hopefully appreciate their point of view. It is important to be part of communities
for much of the same reason. When you are part of a group, you understand and compromise with
the other members of the group. Discussing issues involving the community helps to lead to
solutions. Talking things through with other members improves social skills as well as
relationships. Knowing how people feel about certain issues let you know more about that person,
and in turn, you learn more about yourself. Hearing what other people have to say may sway your
own opinions about something. For example, maybe you are part of a church you thought you
really believed in, but hearing the discussions at the church meetings you start to think that you do
not belong in this community. Though that specific church may be the right place for many, you
learn that you need a new church community. Churches are communities because the members are
unified in their common beliefs. These communities are like families because the members support
and help each other religiously and they feel secure. Being a sound part of a community, you
should continuously learn more and more about yourself. As a member of a club, taking part in
meetings and activities let you learn

This law was sending a very strong message to all of the illegal aliens living in Arizona. The SB
1070 was written deliberately with aggressive measures intended to promote to the estimated
460,000 illegal aliens to go home (About, 2011). The issue with some parts of the bill was that it
was racially profiling, and it promoted discrimination against mainly immigrants. The federal
judge also stopped the section of the law that made it a crime for any for any foreign resident
living in the state of Arizona to carry immigration paperwork at all times. In addition, the judge
also stopped the part where it would make it a crime for any illegal or foreign resident living in
the state of Arizona to solicit, perform, or apply for work. This gave illegal aliens living in state
of Arizona a big relief to know that those main parts of the bill were stopped, giving them the
advantage to continue to move forward with their lives instead of worrying about getting deported.
Many people have their own opinions when relating in regard to illegal immigrants hurting the
United States economy. There have been numerous of economist say there is no doubt the U.S.

individual. Subject to the explicit and latent biases of a racist society, the black population of Sonny
s Blues attempt to endure oppression and suffering and survive in an unforgiving land. However,

Aware of the societal policies and practices discriminating against them, the African Americans in
Sonny s Blues perceive this societal oppression as a darkness surrounding them. The darkness in
Sonny s Blues is the metaphorical embodiment of their suffering and the eventual culmination of
that suffering: death. The narrator remembers the darkness in his youth, when he saw the
darkness coming, and the darkness in the faces (11), which frightened him. The narrator was
afraid of his destiny, afraid of the brutal reality awaiting him, afraid of the finality of death. He
hoped that the hand which stroke[d] his forehead [would] never stop [would] never die... that

the darkness of racism and the darkness of death, affects all the black populace of Sonny s Blues.
In response to this darkness, each black character copes in his or her unique way. The narrator
leaves the crime ridden projects of his youth to a better home, where he attempts, under societal
oppression, a stable life. Sonny attempts to escape the darkness by playing music and eventually,
doing heroin. The narrator, in enduring his pains, finds relative stability in family and work;

45. The A New Product, Sodium Thiosulphate, And Then Daguerre...
In 1839, Herschel was the first to use a new product, sodium thiosulphate, to fix images forever.
This was later implemented by Fox Talbot and then Daguerre for his own daguerreotype.
In 1851 Scott Archer learnt that you could use collodion soluble guncotton dissolved in a mixture
of ether and alcohol to attach solver compounds to glass, the negative/positive process became
dominate. The photographer would have to prepare the collodion glass plates and expose them
while they were still wet. Processing in developer, to blacken the exposed parts, and fixing, to
dissolve the remaining parts had to take place immediately. Location photography therefore required
a darkroom tent. Time exposure were as always a necessary with the camera firmly secured to a
tripod. This process continued to dominate for the next thirty years, Archer who selflessly donated
the collodion process to posterity, died in 1857 at the age of 44, in extreme poverty.
The Daguerreotype seemed to be invincible. From 1840 a decade of success followed the
Daguerreotype, a notable reduction in exposure time, it was then gradually supplanted by the
process of collodion on glass that brought together great detail and the ability to produce numerous
prints. Many say that the inhibiting of British photography in the first decade may have been
because of Daguerre who patented his process in England. Also Fox Talbot patrolled his patents
