Maxwell s Experiment To Contradict The Second Law Of...
Maxwell s Demon is a thought experiment created by a mathematician James Clerk Maxwell to
contradict the second law of thermodynamics. For example, you have a box filled with a gas (a
mixture of hot and cold molecules) at the same temperature. This means that the temperature can
have an affect on an average speed of the molecules. Some of the molecules will move slower
than average, and some will move faster than the average. Suppose that a divider is placed in the
middle of the box separating the two sides into left and right compartment. Maxwell imagined a
demon at the door would observe the molecules. When a hot molecule approaches the door, the
demon opened the door and the molecule move from the right to the left. When a cold molecule
approaches the door he do not open the door in order to let it be on the right side. Therefore,
when he finished the operations, he has a box in which all the hot molecules are in the left side
and all the cold molecules are in the right side. A heatengine can be run by allows the heat to flow
from the hot side to the cold... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second law of thermodynamics stated, In any cyclic process the entropy would either increase or
remain the same. (auburn.edu) To explain Maxwell s Demon paradox, scientists draw out that the
demon still need to use energy to observe the molecules, for example, maybe in the form of
photons. In addition, the demon itself and the trap door mechanism would gain entropy from the
gas as it moved the separate door. Thus, the total entropy of the system still increases (auburn.edu).
In chapter 4 of The Touchstone of Life, Loewenstein stated that the production of macromolecular
information can be as large as you wish, so long as the gain of molecular information (О”Im) and
the sum of the production of entropy in the macromolecule (О”Sm) and of the entropy in the
environment (О”Se) balance out:
О”Im = О”Se +

The countdown to the next should be to make the new digital display price or digital shopping

The Government s policy to control and reduce monopoly power of buyers can restrict access
to the industry s control; obtain a license as a raw material requirements and restrictions. In
order to achieve politically correct pricing strategy, Tesco provide consumers spend money in
their grocery store based on the purchase of fuel prices. While commodity prices are down a
promotion, in store price increase to compensate elsewhere. Liquor sales policy, for example,
we cannot sell alcohol at 18 years of age or we always ask for ID if a person looks under 18
years of age.
Management approach
Operations are the essential action for any retail business. All things considered, a business that
needs to be effective needs a main working model. Staffs assumes essential part in this model. It is
important to put a managed centre upon how to grow best operational staff to guarantee the grocery

Pacific Theatre in World War II
United States Involvement in the Pacific Theatre during World War II On 1 September 1939 the
country of Germany led by Adolf Hitler invaded Poland using blitzkrieg tactics or in other words
lightning war . As Germany is capturing Europe one country at a time Japan is doing the same
except with Asia and Japan is also preparing for the attack of the United States naval base on the
island of Oahu called Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harborcaused the United States to declare
war on Japan, break isolationism and get deeply involved in World War II. On 7 December 1941

The Battle of Midway was a huge success in American code breaking and proving that the use of
the aircraft carrier would definitely be a vital resource in the Pacific Theater ( Battle of Midway ).
Three months later the Americans pressed forward setting their eyes on a near Australia called
Guadalcanal. This battle would be the first allied offensive on the Empire of Japan. On 7 August
1942 American forces landed on the islands of Guadalcanal, Tulagi, and Florida in the southern
Solomon Islands with the objective of denying their use by the Japanese to threaten the supply
and communication routes between the US, Australia, and New Zealand. The Allies also intended
to use Guadalcanal and Tulagi as bases to support a campaign to eventually capture or neutralize
the major Japanese base at Rabal on New Britain ( Battle of Guadalcanal ). Powerful United States
naval forces had supported the landings. Surprised by the Allied offensive, the Japanese made
several attempts between August and November 1942 to retake Henderson Field. Three major land
battles, seven large naval battles, and continual, almost daily aerial battles culminated in the
decisive Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in early November 1942, in which the last

Theme Of Beatrice In Much Ado About Nothing
Shakespeare established Beatrice s character in order to bring to the stage opposition to the typical
woman of the Elizabethan era and shed light on gender inequality. Hero seems to be the optimal
woman, polite, obedient, and quiet. She supports societies patriarchal views, submitting first to her
father, who commands her to accept Claudio s hand when he proposes, and submissive to her new
fiancГ©, even after he publicly humiliates her. Beatrice, on the other hand, is cynical, sharp, witty,
and a feisty woman. A woman legitimately criticizing a man does not go with genderroles in this
society, and therefore Leonato feels the need to cover it up, belittling and dismissing what
Beatrice has to say her honest opinion of Benedick. The same issue seems to arise when Beatrice
and Benedick banter back and forth. Beatrice takes jabs at Benedick s character, and unable to
handle a woman insulting him, he gives up, or cops out. Beatrice stands out as a character in Much
Ado about nothing because she is a proud, strong female character, rare during Shakespeare s time.
She refuses to marry because she hasn t found a perfect equal partner and is unwilling to submit her
control and freedom to a husband. She yearns to be equal with men, something that challenges the
gender inequality of Elizabethan time.
The way Shakespeare has the men view the women characters in Much Ado About Nothing also
gives insight into Elizabethan gender equality as well. Throughout the play, women

Implications Of Dual Language Immersion
Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners
with a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will
explore the Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual
language education has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its
height of popularity in the 1970s, the use of dual language educationin public schools has declined
significantly in recent decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When
used, dual language education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking
students, or students who are not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to
succeed in and complete their education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of
dual language strategies, each with its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically
designed to simultaneously develop English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language
the knowledge, skills, and cultural proficiencies needed to succeed in an academic program.
The overview of Dual Language Programs which there are four main types, one of them are two

who are native speakers of the partner language. Foreign language

Ducks Unlimited Essay
Ducks Unlimited is a North American non profit organization that conserves wetlands and
associated habitats for waterfowl, other wildlife and people. Ducks Unlimited was formed during
the Great Depression when a group of conservation minded waterfowlers saw a decrease in
waterfowl populations. As an employee of Ducks UnlimitedCanada (DUC), I have a strong
understanding of the company, and I will be analyzing the site of DUC s sister organization Ducks
Unlimited Inc. (DUI).
Rhetorical Design
DUI s primary audience is its supporters, which includes members and volunteers who already
donate. In the U.S., these supporters are mainly waterfowl hunters and people who have an
invested interest in wetlands, waterfowl and other wildlife. ... Show more content on

Interface Design
The navigation structure of the site is broken into blocks and is very clear. Being broken up this
way makes it easy to see the different sections instead of everything blending together without
clear dividers. The only criticism would be that there seems to be a great deal of links, which
could cause viewers to feel overwhelmed by the options. The navigation bar banner and the side
navigation bar are strongly apparent on each page making it easy to go back and forth between
pages. The back to home button sits under the Ducks Unlimited logo in the top left hand corner of
the page, but it does not stand out. It should be more prominent on the page or highlighted better
so the user can see how to get back to the home page from any page within the site.
The site does include the basic document elements of who, what, when and where and these
elements are very helpful. Having current news releases and content that is dated helps the site
remain relevant and the user gets the sense that the website is updated regularly and that the content
is fairly timely. The Contact Us link is also apparent more than once throughout the home page and
subsequent pages, making DUI accessible to the user.

Enterprise web identity can be used to analyze the DUI site. The design and content of the site does
not lead the users to believe that the organization is anything but what they really are. The entire
site also uses consistent

African American Sports History Research Paper
Throughout American history, sports has always been a big topic. Many Americans view sports
as a part of their culture and an influence in their lives. There are many opportunities to play
sports such as basketball, football, golf, baseball, ect. However, not everybody had equal
opportunities to play sports before there were major changes in sports history. One of these
major changes included other ethnicity groups and skin colored people to be allowed to play
sports. African American athletes were one of the main groups of people that changed this view.
They were not allowed or qualified to play sports because of their skin color and background.

African American Athletes s Influence On Society
Over the past 50 years, the views on African American basketball players by society has
dramatically changed. As African Americans have gained rights, athletes have continued to
influence society. Since then, the influence these star players have had on society has become
overwhelming. African American basketballplayers have gone from being quarantined from the
league, to becoming children s icons. African Americans players were forced to create their own
leagues and teams in order to play professionally. As a result of this, the world famous Harlem
Globetrotterswere created. The Globetrotters still have a lasting impact on society up to this
date. During the 1950s, when African Americans began to enter the NBA, white players feared
they would be harmful to the league. In the 1970s, just after the ABA and NBA merger, the NBA
nearly ended as a result of the lack of fan interest. White fans disliked the black game and
emerging black stars. In just a ten year period, the views towards these dominant players
completely changed, as players like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordancompletely revolutionized
the game. These stars forced the public to watch the games, and appreciate these players. In
addition to transforming the league, the views towards African Americans by the rest of society
changed as well as a result of these players. Along the way on this arduous journey, African
Americans successfully transformed American culture and had an everlasting impact on society.

There was a Mid Autumn parade in Chinatown on that day, accompanying the dragon and lion

so I decided to take BART to go there. Before I met our tour guide, I went across to Union Square

The Death Of Tennessee V Garner
Sidney Hildebrandt
Tennessee V Garner
On the night of October 3rd, 1974 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Edward Garner was shot by
Officer Hymon in an attempt to stop him from escaping a crime scene. Garner died on the
operating table due to the gunshot wound on the back of his head. His crime was burglary and
he was found with a mere ten dollars and a purse. The case was argued on October 30th, 1984
and a decision was made on March 27th, 1985. The father of Edward Garner believed his son s
constitutional rights were violated by the defendants Officer Hymon, the Police Department, and the
Mayor of the city of Memphis. With a 6 3 decision, the Justices decided that Officer Hymon was
acting justly under the fourth amendment that states that deadly force is constitutional as long as it
is reasonable . I believe Officer Hymon was acting in good faith and simply fulfilling his duty to
protect the public and stop criminals from escaping punishment.
Edward Eugene Garner life ended in his eighth grade year at the young age of 15.He stood at five
feet four inches tall and weighed around one hundred pounds.1 The father of Edward, Cleamtee
Garner, brought the case into action by claiming that his son s fourth, fifth, sixth, eighth and
fourteenth amendments were violated.2 Officer Elton Hymon, along with Leslie Wright received a

ethical for the murderer to be treated in the ER because everyone has a right to health care. It

Women s Destruction In Native American Myth
Myth a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of people or explaining some

distinctive feature or dominant idea in an artistic or literary composition. Destruction the action or

Women since the beginning of time have been blamed and ridiculed for every single thing they do.
But it seems that nobody really has wondered why this is the way it is. Why is it that women are

Her gifts were beautifully evil, according to Hesiod. Hephaestus created her from clay, shaping
her perfectly, Aphrodite gave her femininity and Athena taught her crafts. Hermes was ordered
by Zeus to teach her to be deceitful, stubborn and curious. Pandora was given a box or a jar,
called pithos in Greek. Gods told her that the box contained special gifts from them but she was
not allowed to open the box ever. Then Hermes took her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus,
to be his wife. Prometheus had advised Epimetheus not to accept anything from the Gods, but he

trying to tame her curiosity, but at the end, she could not hold herself anymore; she opened the
box and all the illnesses and hardships that gods had hidden in the box started coming out.

A Summary Of The Broken Spears
When I was younger I had a friend that would love to tell stories of the Aztec, or Mexica and
although I don t think she knew what she was talking about truly, I started a liking for their
culture. Their culture is a very unique one that will be known for its practice of sacrificing
humans, making of magnificent jewelry, and the making of their downfall by the Spaniards. The
Broken Spears is a book that so well put together the accounts of the Mexica and the conquest of
the Spaniards. Broken Spears was an interesting account that could be seen to have a little bias on
the side of the Mexica. Many reasons could follow like the fact that it was written after the whole
ordeal. Although Broken Spears seems to have a bias I claim that it does show how the culture
collides well because the difference in the first encounter with its first judgement of each people to
each other, the difference with the technologies and living, and the difference between the religions
they both believed in. In the Broken Spears the first accounts or documents discuss the omens the
Mexica believe to be happening before the inevitable arrival of the Spanish that are such strangers

Russo-Japanese War Essay example
Russo Japanese War
At the turn of the century, Russia was the largest nation in Europe, both in terms of population and
land area. It also had a powerful army and navy, which in addition to its vast territory made it almost
unthinkable for any nation to attempt to wage a war against it. Why then had Russia not only been
defeated, but suffered tremendous and uneven casualties compared to the Japanese in the Russo
Japanese War? This loss, which later had dire consequences for the Russian empire, occurred
because of inadequate preparation, poor leadership, and simply bad luck which plagued the Russian
military forces in the Pacific.

color, or would they march for their rights as a woman? In circles of color, men would often
expect women to abandon their fight as a woman to support men of color. And In circles of women,
white women were the dominant voice and their brand of feminismonly seemed to further the
white women s agenda. It is important when speaking of feminism, we speak about a more
critical, inclusive and diverse branch of feminism. The film that I will be applying feminism
and black feminism to will be For Colored Girls (Perry, Tyler 2010). I will be discussing in which
areas feminism applies and where it does not in For Colored Girls. Feminism is typically defined
as the movement for women to have equal rights as men. Deeper than that however, feminism is a
movement that addresses institutional, social and internalized sexism. This includes issues from
the wage gap, rape culture, and gender roles. Mainstream feminism has three different waves, that
include, women s fight for the right to vote, a broader expansion of equality in the workplace and
for reproductive rights, and finally the wave we are currently in The micro

Biological Approach To Abnormal Psychology
Psychology, as a field, works to understand the complex inner workings of the mind, and to make
sense of why people behave the way they do. The use of psychology helps individuals gain a
stronger comprehension of themselves and others. Abnormal psychology is a sect that puts a
specific focus on individuals who exhibit rare behavior. The study of abnormal psychology
examines why people exhibit such behavior by using specific models as a base for understanding.
Abnormal psychology is the study of individuals who are abnormal in relation to other members of
society. Abnormal behavior can be determined using statistics; this means that someone who
exhibits behavior that is statistically rare, would be considered to be exhibiting abnormal behavior.

This approach examines the underlying causes, which include: genetics, physical illnesses,
chemical imbalances, and infections (Cherry, 2017). An example of an abnormal behavior that is
caused by biological factors is schizophrenia; elevated levels of dopamine create the symptoms
associated with schizophrenia (McLeod, 2014).
The behavioral approach, on the other hand, understand abnormal behavior through the
observation of life circumstances and experiences. According to the behavioral approach, since
all behavior is learned it can also be unlearned. An example of a learned behavior is phobias
which typically develop as a result of exposure in the past to something that caused anxiety or fear
(McLeod, 2014). This approach aims to change abnormal behavior through use of strategies like
classical and operant conditioning (Cherry, 2017).
The cognitive approach focuses on how thoughts, perceptions, and reasoning influence abnormal
behavior (Cherry, 2017). As opposed to the behavioral approach, the cognitive approach suggests
that abnormalities arise as a result of the way one perceives events, rather than the events
themselves. The goal of the cognitive approach is to change actual thought processes and
cognitions in order to overcome abnormalities (McLeod,

A Close Reading Of Millay s I, Being Born A Woman And...
Dispassionate Passion:
A Close Reading of Millay s I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed
Edna St. Vincent Millay s I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed traces the physical and
psychological venture of a woman as she indulges in the passion of a one night stand. Throughout
the sonnet, literary elements function to facilitate the emergence of a paradox surrounding the
speaker s existence as both an active subject and a passive object in the encounter described.
In analyzing the woman s experience, the tone of the poem principally informs its paradoxical
nature. For, while the notion of passion is conventionally associated with powerful and
overwhelming emotion, the speaker s tone is consistently calm and subdued when alluding to it.
As evidence of this, one must recall the manner in which she establishes her sexual desire for her
anonymous lover: [I] am urged by your propinquity to find Your person fair, and feel a certain
zest... (lines 3 4)
Within these lines, as in the rest of the sonnet, the use of diction is extremely composed. The
denotation of the word propinquity communicates a nearness or closeness in space between the
two, yet its use in this setting also connotes an emotional distance due to its intellectual complexity.
Although the woman states that she is distressed, undone, and of [clouded] mind, her careful and
formal phraseology fails to correlate with these claims of dishevelment (lines 7 8). In fact, without
the presence of charged and

Wolof Research Paper
As the African proverb goes, If you want people to understand you, speak their language. Such was
the case for the Wolof tribe when France colonized their native country of Senegal, located on the
northern West coast of Africa, in the early 20th century. Before the French arrived, Senegal had
been a constantly changing domain. The Portuguese, Dutch, British, and French fought back and
forth over outposts such as the small island of GorГ©e, part of modern day Dakar, Senegal. It was
finally returned to the French by the British in 1815, after the Napoleonic wars, and the French
began their expansion into the mainland (Diallo). However, as the French ventured farther into
Africa, they encountered the Wolof, a people who had been denizens of Senegal... Show more

The history of the Wolof people can be traced back to the great kingdoms of pre colonial Senegal,
prior to 1946. Kayor and Baol, two of these empires, are often cited as examples of the Wolof
resistance to French colonialism due to the lasting of their culture and language (National African
Language Resource Center). Even after French was deemed the official language, people
continued to use Wolof. Since then, the term Wolofization has been coined to describe its
spread. Wolof people make up about 40% of the nine million Senegalese, representing the largest
single ethnic group at approximately 44.5% in the 2004 census ( Wolof ). In addition, Wolof is
spoken as a first or second language by more than 90% of the population (Diallo), by over 5.2
million speakers (Thompson). French, however, doesn t even rank in the top six national
languages, with only about 20% as a second language, and 1% as a first (Diallo). Strong Wolof
presence can be seen not just lingually, since independence, but the Wolof have played a leading
role culturally, politically, and economically in Senegal too. The Wolof people remain the single
largest Ethnic group in Senegal, and despite the country s weak economy, the Wolof have built a
reputation for international commerce and trading. In addition, Wolof businesspeople can be found
throughout Africa, Europe, and even on the streets of New York City and Washington, D.C. ( Wolof

The Civil War Of 1861
The Civil War took place in 1861 and it lasted up until 1865. It was a war between the United
States or, The Union army rather, and eleven deep rooted southern states known as the
Confederacy. The Civil War occurred mainly as a direct response to slavery. The South preferred
to keep slavery and the North simply wanted to preserve the Union. However, there were many
other incidents that occurred and there were different battles that caused the Civil War to have
its end results. Those battles will be addressed in the following paragraphs. The very first battle
took place in 1861. It was known as both The Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Manassas. The
Union army, led by General Irvin Manassas, was slightly larger than the Confederate army, led by
P.G.T. Beauregard. It took place in northern Virginia when the Union army marched to Manassas
in attempt to attack the Confederates. The attack appeared to be successful, but the Confederates
managed to survive. They later went on to counterattack the Union and McDowell and his army
were forced to retreat back to Washington. This battle was very detrimental and overwhelming for
the Union army, and left them in a state of disbelief. However, in 1861 the Union were still able
to make substantial progress. They were eventually able to proclaim western Virginia a new
renowned state admitted as West Virginia in 1863. Shortly after the Battle of Bull Run, the war
took a turn in favor of the Union. A Union regiment directed by David

sonographer is? Have you ever thought of looking into someones body and look inside their
stomach? Especially at a embryon? Well here in this paper you will find out every little thing about
becoming a sonographer.
Paragraph 2; Education
The education for this career is really simple and easy. You need to have a formal education, and an
associates degree or just a certificate of a training program. but many of the employers also require
a professional certification. It may also depend on what kind of degree you want it will depend on
how many years you will like to get profession in this career but, to get the profession of being a
sonographer it will take at least one year or two, you can go for four years if you want a master s
degree. Which will be great because you will get paid more.

Sonography has many good and bad disadvantages. One of the advantages this career has is that
you will be looking at baby s. You will be the first person to tell any mother what the baby will be
a girl or boy. You will bring joy to both parents mom and dad just by saying It s a Girl or Its a boy
. Another advantage is that you will be in touch with you patients you will have to listen to what
they have to tell you. What i m actually saying about this is that many of your patients will get
emotional and you will have to be there to support them. Just as there is advantages there is also
disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that you may have to work over time you will be
standing up 98% of the time. You might also have to work night shifts depending on what hospital
you actually get a job at. but in my opinion i feel like being a sonographer is amazing.

Conctionalism In The Theory Of The Critical Accounting Theory
Critical Accounting Theory
According to Oluwadare and Samy (2015) from the Canadian Social Science, Critical Accounting
Theory is about understanding accounting in the context of its broad socio politics, evaluating the
accounting policies and practices that exist, and offering means of working towards more enabling
accountings. It generally puts a focus on accounting s role to keep those in control of particular
resources in their positions while those without any capital to have their voices undermined or
restricted. Critical theory advances beyond the rational view of the traditional functionalist in terms
of accounting and accounting research. It aims to help in the disclosure of the accountability of
organisations as well as increasing the environmental stability. This is theory is contextual, meaning
it focuses more on political, economic and social consequences (Laughlin, 1999). It could be said
that it is similar to corporate social responsibility, but it is actually beyond that as corporate social
responsibility has a tendency to focus on the parties that can potentially be affected by the decisions
of the firm, inadvertently ignoring minor parties, while Critical Accounting Theory wants to put the
focus on society as a whole. In his research, Laughlin (1987) states that there are three relevant
points of the critical theory for accounting research. Firstly, the critical accounting theory creates a
link between theory and practice. Secondly, critique, change and

What Made Britain so Different from the Rest of Europe...
What made Britain so different from the rest of Europe before 1850?
By 1850, Britain had changed in a number of social and economic ways, for a variety of reasons,
primarily the industrial revolution as the historians O Brien and Quinault argue that Britain
represented a potent example for Western Europeand the United States of what could be achieved
highlighting British superiority and influence. The consequences of this momentous event can still
be seen in Britain and around the world today due to the technological and scientific discoveries and
innovations of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The development of British industry
consequently led to significant differences between Britain and other European countries such as ...

Child labour during this period was a serious problem children as young as 4 were expected to work
in factories in dangerous conditions with low pay. Working conditions were not only problematic
for children, but also for adults, illustrated by Engels, who argues that the industrial epoch had
created filth, ruin and uninhabitableness, the defiance of all considerations of cleanliness,
ventilation, and health highlighting the unsanitary and unsafe surroundings. However, the
government attempted to solve this problem with the Factory Acts of 1833. Housing also became a
problem as many poor people lived in tiny houses, with extremely bad sanitation, which in turn led
to tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid and lung disease. However, while this is true, in the context of the
time, the workers and middle class did benefit greatly from the Industrial Revolution in some way,
as wages increased and widespread poverty and constant threat of mass starvation...lessened, [and]
overall health and material conditions of the populace clearly improved . Therefore it is clear that
Britain was different in social terms as a result of the Industrial Revolution to Europe due to
urbanisation, more jobs, a population increase and better health care.
Additionally, Britain can be seen to be different from Europe in 1850 as a result of the economic
consequences of the Industrial Revolution, which brought about a modern economy . The economy

This excerpt is taken from the short story Neighbours by Tim Winton. The story and the excerpt

Trends In Managed Care
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) is medical insurance group that provides health
services for a set annual fee. The primary reason of managed care is to reduce health care costs
among Americans. The belief behind managed care programs was to maintain good health that
will be accomplish by preventing diseases and providing quality care. By having good health the
cost in health care can be controlled and lowered. Managed health care organizations became
contracted with groups of health care providers such as HMOs and PPOs. HMOs covers care
provided by physicians and other professionals who have agreed by contract to treat patients in

preferred provider organizations where individuals can only receive care from providers in contract

government turned to managed care as a way of keeping down the cost with less resources

interest in improving the organization of health care and their outcomes. Managed care will

You ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself. This quote is from the
Wizard Of Oz. It talks about courage to people who don t think they can do these things. This
quote is very important if someone doesn t think they can do something but needs to or wants

about a family who has a son who kills two people who were stalking their home. The son then
goes off to jail, and breaks out. The rest of the family goes off on a long road trip to try to find
their son, Davy. This part reminds me of the Wizard of Oz because Dorthy goes on a long trip
on the yellow brick road to find the Wizard. In the end, things don t turn out as planned but some
things get better. In this book, many people display courage. But, Davy has the most courage. He
had courage when he: killed the two boys, escaped jail, and was on his own for his whole life....

An Automated External Defribillator (AED)
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a tool that saves lives on a constant basis. This
device is used to send an electrical charge to stabilize the heart into pumping normally. This device
is normally found in EMT kits, hospitals, many public buildings. The AED is an easy tool to use
that provides instructions on how effectively use one without damaging the patient.
They way an AED is used by placing two pads on the body in the locations that allow the a charge
to successfully pass through the heart. The placement is very important because if placed too closely
the charge may not pass through the heart. If placed incorrectly the charge might damage other
organs. Often times, an instructional manual is provided within the device which displays proper
placement on the body. Placement varies according to body size and age, children require a
different placement than adults.
The AED is important because it has been designed to give the right amount of voltage so that it
does not damage the heart through use. They are portable devices that make storage and access
easier, and the setup is stream lined to allow ease of use for the operator. The battery that is
encased allows for reliability and long storage life. Many of the tools in the AED kit are made
purposely for a non medical person to stabilize a patient until medically trained help arrives.

Doping has been around since the eighteen hundreds. The first ever case of doping was in 1865
where swimmers in Amsterdam used an unknown stimulant to enhance performance. By 1870 a lot
of endurance athletes have been taking substances such as caffeine, cocaine and alcohol. In the
early 20th century testosterone and anabolic steroids have been the primary source of performance

The Symbolism Of Tunnels In Literature
Lauren Schmidt
Mr. Porter
English IV

A Deeper Look: Stars, skeletons, and shadows are objects that may initially seem common and
insignificant to the plot of a novel. However, authors sometimes have a purpose behind simple
objects like these, events that occur, and/or the types of characters that are developed. When an
author utilizes a recurrent symbol, character, or situation that is an instinctual expression of man s
nature and experiences that are universal, the author is incorporating archetypes. In the novel
, author Stephen Chbosky develops several archetypes with a purpose of aiding the reader in

archetypes such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this understanding, the reader is more likely to be able to relate to Charlie s adolescent
transformation or make connections with other young adult novels. The season of winter is a
prominent archetype in as well. Winter often accompanies dark, dreary, and somber times. In
the novel, Charlie hits his ultimate low point in his battle with depression in the middle of
winter. He felt that he was alone and had absolutely no one to turn to. One night shortly after
New Year s, Charlie found himself both mentally and physically lost. Suffocated by heavy
thoughts, he wandered outside and laid in the snow, only for a policeman to find him pale blue
and asleep the next day, and he didn t stop shivering from the cold until a long time after [his]
mom and dad drove [him] home from the emergency room, (Chbosky 98). The cold, snowy
winter can be viewed as an archetype that affects how the reader perceives this point in Charlie s
transformation. The mood of the story, or how it makes the reader feel, seems much more
dismal because of the time of year. The reader will be able to understand more completely how
miserable of a time this was for Charlie, and he/she could potentially relate to this feeling of
loneliness. Another archetype that is present in is a hero. A hero is a character who embarks on a
journey where challenges and fears are overcome. Often times, heroes leave and return home a new

reality. These fantasies are obviously because of a strong Oedipus complex between the child
and his mother, which is evidently seen in the way he wants people to think of them in his
fantasy. (Page 2, lines 31 34: People would look at them in the street and whisper, I don t know
what she would have done without him and Yes, he s been wonderful and They re so close now
.) These fantasies are entirely naturally expectable for a child who clearly doesn t get maternal
attention and love enough, and it is clearly seen in this quote. (Page 3, lines 56 61: Oh. Well I m
going out too.

My Personality And The Personality
Personality is a combination of factors in human beings, that is the expression of inner value,
learned reaction to others, life experience and beliefs. Our life is shaped by our personality,
lifestyles, and gender. I make a connection with many people in my daily life. Those connections
have a positive or negative impact in my life. I am an extroversion personality. I have a strong
feeling of wanting to find out about something new. I like to ask a lot of questions, because that is
the way, I get new knowledge. I am being aware of through questions to collect information. I like
to discuss matters from A to Z. Some they encourage me by giving satisfactory answer, and others,
they give me warning not to ask too much questions again. That... Show more content on

Some of my classmates were starting to work. I was stopped with my paper and pencil. The
professor didn t recognize the classrooms were made up of different learning styles. I am a visual
learner, and I have trouble remembering verbal instruction. I am straggling to remember verbal
instructions. I prefer to receive paper instructions rather than verbal instruction. Even though, the
classroom was not fit my learning style, I was ok to ask questions to get help. Other sides of my
personality affect my relationship with others. We are born as unique, no one looks alike. Some
of my personality has excellent quality, and other side of my personality is lower quality.
Therefore, those differences have a positive or negative impact in my life. Susan Cain, an
American writer and lecturer, and author of the non fiction book Quiet: argue that tough and
nice are the two extremes of the volume of a TV I ve never seen anyone so nice and so tough at
the same time, she said. Both characters are incomputable. Those characters tough and nice
never relate each other, but it is possible to find in one s life. This show, it is impossible to
change with your rooted personality. I have many good qualities, and lack of good characters in
my life. I am a thin skin personality. Taking criticism is hard for me. It is hard to acceptCriticism
from others. It is right to make room, but I can t. Especially, for those close to me it is hard to

Compare And Contrast Confucianism And Legalism
Philosophies Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism were the three main philosophies in ancient
China for a form of government. I state that Daoism is the most effective form of government
because it is based around balance: balance in nature and opposites of the universe. Daoism has
the highest number of followers at around 20 million people among the three philosophies.
Daoism is concerned with helping people live in harmony with their self. Legalism was very
different from both Confucianism and Daoism because Legalism was the belief that people
needed to be controlled because they were evil. Legalism is found in China and was founded by
Han Feize. While it is unknown when Legalism was established, it is known that Han Feize was
born in 280 B.C. so that gives a general time when legalism started. Legalism didn t deal with
much religious concerns but was more of a political philosophy instead. Citizens were seen to be
responsible for actions of one another. A person who is considered guilty, their relatives and
neighbors should be punished as well. This was a way to make sure that the laws are followed.
The laws are strict with harsh punishments. People who spy on others and report anything that they
do wrong to the authorities are thought to be doing right of the law. Both Legalism and
Confucianism are belief systems within a group of people, not religions, and both are intended to
lead to an orderly way of life, how they approach their teachings are complete opposed.

  • 2. Maxwell s Experiment To Contradict The Second Law Of... Maxwell s Demon is a thought experiment created by a mathematician James Clerk Maxwell to contradict the second law of thermodynamics. For example, you have a box filled with a gas (a mixture of hot and cold molecules) at the same temperature. This means that the temperature can have an affect on an average speed of the molecules. Some of the molecules will move slower than average, and some will move faster than the average. Suppose that a divider is placed in the middle of the box separating the two sides into left and right compartment. Maxwell imagined a demon at the door would observe the molecules. When a hot molecule approaches the door, the demon opened the door and the molecule move from the right to the left. When a cold molecule approaches the door he do not open the door in order to let it be on the right side. Therefore, when he finished the operations, he has a box in which all the hot molecules are in the left side and all the cold molecules are in the right side. A heatengine can be run by allows the heat to flow from the hot side to the cold... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second law of thermodynamics stated, In any cyclic process the entropy would either increase or remain the same. (auburn.edu) To explain Maxwell s Demon paradox, scientists draw out that the demon still need to use energy to observe the molecules, for example, maybe in the form of photons. In addition, the demon itself and the trap door mechanism would gain entropy from the gas as it moved the separate door. Thus, the total entropy of the system still increases (auburn.edu). In chapter 4 of The Touchstone of Life, Loewenstein stated that the production of macromolecular information can be as large as you wish, so long as the gain of molecular information (О”Im) and the sum of the production of entropy in the macromolecule (О”Sm) and of the entropy in the environment (О”Se) balance out: О”Im = О”Se + ... On 7 August 1942 American forces landed on the islands of Guadalcanal, Tulagi, and Florida in the southern Solomon Islands with the objective of denying their use by the Japanese to threaten the supply and communication routes between the US, Australia, and New Zealand. The Allies also intended to use Guadalcanal and Tulagi as bases to support a campaign to eventually capture or neutralize the major Japanese base at Rabal on New Britain ( Battle of Guadalcanal ). Powerful United States naval forces had supported the landings. Surprised by the Allied offensive, the Japanese made several attempts between August and November 1942 to retake Henderson Field. Three major land battles, seven large naval battles, and continual, almost daily aerial battles culminated in the decisive Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in early November 1942, in which the last ... • 6. Theme Of Beatrice In Much Ado About Nothing Shakespeare established Beatrice s character in order to bring to the stage opposition to the typical woman of the Elizabethan era and shed light on gender inequality. Hero seems to be the optimal woman, polite, obedient, and quiet. She supports societies patriarchal views, submitting first to her father, who commands her to accept Claudio s hand when he proposes, and submissive to her new fiancГ©, even after he publicly humiliates her. Beatrice, on the other hand, is cynical, sharp, witty, and a feisty woman. A woman legitimately criticizing a man does not go with genderroles in this society, and therefore Leonato feels the need to cover it up, belittling and dismissing what Beatrice has to say her honest opinion of Benedick. The same issue seems to arise when Beatrice and Benedick banter back and forth. Beatrice takes jabs at Benedick s character, and unable to handle a woman insulting him, he gives up, or cops out. Beatrice stands out as a character in Much Ado about nothing because she is a proud, strong female character, rare during Shakespeare s time. She refuses to marry because she hasn t found a perfect equal partner and is unwilling to submit her control and freedom to a husband. She yearns to be equal with men, something that challenges the gender inequality of Elizabethan time. The way Shakespeare has the men view the women characters in Much Ado About Nothing also gives insight into Elizabethan gender equality as well. Throughout the play, women ... Implications Of Dual Language Immersion Dual language education benefits both English dominant students and English language learners with a goal of helping students to become bilingual, bicultural and biliterate. This paper will explore the Implications of Dual Language Immersion programs in US schools. While dual language education has existed in the United States for roughly two centuries, and it reached its height of popularity in the 1970s, the use of dual language educationin public schools has declined significantly in recent decades due to legislative actions that have sought to limit its use. When used, dual language education is generally seen as a way to ensure that non English speaking students, or students who are not yet proficient in English, are given equitable opportunities to succeed in and complete their education. While schools and teachers may use a wide variety of dual language strategies, each with its own specific instructional goals, the programs are typically designed to simultaneously develop English fluency, content knowledge, and academic language the knowledge, skills, and cultural proficiencies needed to succeed in an academic program. As African Americans have gained rights, athletes have continued to influence society. Since then, the influence these star players have had on society has become overwhelming. African American basketballplayers have gone from being quarantined from the league, to becoming children s icons. African Americans players were forced to create their own leagues and teams in order to play professionally. As a result of this, the world famous Harlem Globetrotterswere created. In the 1970s, just after the ABA and NBA merger, the NBA nearly ended as a result of the lack of fan interest. White fans disliked the black game and emerging black stars. In just a ten year period, the views towards these dominant players completely changed, as players like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordancompletely revolutionized the game. Feminism In For Colored Girls Many people of many genders identify as a feminist, most will say that they believe in equal rights for men and women, and some can tell you about the three waves of feminism. For women of color however, feminism can tend to be a double edge sword. Many black women and women of color were forced to choose their cause. Would they fight for their rights as a person of color, or would they march for their rights as a woman? In circles of color, men would often expect women to abandon their fight as a woman to support men of color. And In circles of women, white women were the dominant voice and their brand of feminismonly seemed to further the white women s agenda. It is important when speaking of feminism, we speak about a more critical, inclusive and diverse branch of feminism. The film that I will be applying feminism and black feminism to will be For Colored Girls (Perry, Tyler 2010). I will be discussing in which areas feminism applies and where it does not in For Colored Girls. Feminism is typically defined as the movement for women to have equal rights as men. Deeper than that however, feminism is a movement that addresses institutional, social and internalized sexism. This includes issues from the wage gap, rape culture, and gender roles. The use of psychology helps individuals gain a stronger comprehension of themselves and others. Abnormal psychology is a sect that puts a specific focus on individuals who exhibit rare behavior. The study of abnormal psychology examines why people exhibit such behavior by using specific models as a base for understanding. Abnormal psychology is the study of individuals who are abnormal in relation to other members of society. An example of an abnormal behavior that is caused by biological factors is schizophrenia; elevated levels of dopamine create the symptoms associated with schizophrenia (McLeod, 2014). The behavioral approach, on the other hand, understand abnormal behavior through the observation of life circumstances and experiences. According to the behavioral approach, since all behavior is learned it can also be unlearned. An example of a learned behavior is phobias which typically develop as a result of exposure in the past to something that caused anxiety or fear (McLeod, 2014). This approach aims to change abnormal behavior through use of strategies like classical and operant conditioning (Cherry, 2017). The cognitive approach focuses on how thoughts, perceptions, and reasoning influence abnormal behavior (Cherry, 2017). Dispassionate Passion: A Close Reading of Millay s I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed Edna St. Vincent Millay s I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed traces the physical and psychological venture of a woman as she indulges in the passion of a one night stand. Throughout the sonnet, literary elements function to facilitate the emergence of a paradox surrounding the speaker s existence as both an active subject and a passive object in the encounter described. In analyzing the woman s experience, the tone of the poem principally informs its paradoxical nature. For, while the notion of passion is conventionally associated with powerful and overwhelming emotion, the speaker s tone is consistently calm and subdued when alluding to it. As evidence of this, one must recall the manner in which she establishes her sexual desire for her anonymous lover: [I] am urged by your propinquity to find Your person fair, and feel a certain zest... (lines 3 4) Within these lines, as in the rest of the sonnet, the use of diction is extremely composed. The denotation of the word propinquity communicates a nearness or closeness in space between the two, yet its use in this setting also connotes an emotional distance due to its intellectual complexity. Although the woman states that she is distressed, undone, and of [clouded] mind, her careful and formal phraseology fails to correlate with these claims of dishevelment (lines 7 8). In fact, without the presence of charged and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even after French was deemed the official language, people continued to use Wolof. Since then, the term Wolofization has been coined to describe its spread. The South preferred to keep slavery and the North simply wanted to preserve the Union. However, there were many other incidents that occurred and there were different battles that caused the Civil War to have its end results. Those battles will be addressed in the following paragraphs. The very first battle took place in 1861. It was known as both The Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Manassas. The Union army, led by General Irvin Manassas, was slightly larger than the Confederate army, led by P.G.T. Beauregard. It took place in northern Virginia when the Union army marched to Manassas in attempt to attack the Confederates. The attack appeared to be successful, but the Confederates managed to survive. They later went on to counterattack the Union and McDowell and his army were forced to retreat back to Washington. This battle was very detrimental and overwhelming for the Union army, and left them in a state of disbelief. However, in 1861 the Union were still able to make substantial progress. They were eventually able to proclaim western Virginia a new renowned state admitted as West Virginia in 1863. Shortly after the Battle of Bull Run, the war took a turn in favor of the Union. • 30. Conctionalism In The Theory Of The Critical Accounting Theory Critical Accounting Theory According to Oluwadare and Samy (2015) from the Canadian Social Science, Critical Accounting Theory is about understanding accounting in the context of its broad socio politics, evaluating the accounting policies and practices that exist, and offering means of working towards more enabling accountings. It generally puts a focus on accounting s role to keep those in control of particular resources in their positions while those without any capital to have their voices undermined or restricted. Critical theory advances beyond the rational view of the traditional functionalist in terms of accounting and accounting research. It aims to help in the disclosure of the accountability of organisations as well as increasing the environmental stability. This is theory is contextual, meaning it focuses more on political, economic and social consequences (Laughlin, 1999). It could be said that it is similar to corporate social responsibility, but it is actually beyond that as corporate social responsibility has a tendency to focus on the parties that can potentially be affected by the decisions of the firm, inadvertently ignoring minor parties, while Critical Accounting Theory wants to put the focus on society as a whole. In his research, Laughlin (1987) states that there are three relevant points of the critical theory for accounting research. Firstly, the critical accounting theory creates a link between theory and practice. Secondly, critique, change and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By 1850, Britain had changed in a number of social and economic ways, for a variety of reasons, primarily the industrial revolution as the historians O Brien and Quinault argue that Britain represented a potent example for Western Europeand the United States of what could be achieved highlighting British superiority and influence. Child labour during this period was a serious problem children as young as 4 were expected to work in factories in dangerous conditions with low pay. Working conditions were not only problematic for children, but also for adults, illustrated by Engels, who argues that the industrial epoch had created filth, ruin and uninhabitableness, the defiance of all considerations of cleanliness, ventilation, and health highlighting the unsanitary and unsafe surroundings. However, the government attempted to solve this problem with the Factory Acts of 1833. Housing also became a problem as many poor people lived in tiny houses, with extremely bad sanitation, which in turn led to tuberculosis, cholera, typhoid and lung disease. However, while this is true, in the context of the time, the workers and middle class did benefit greatly from the Industrial Revolution in some way, as wages increased and widespread poverty and constant threat of mass starvation...lessened, [and] overall health and material conditions of the populace clearly improved .
