Datamining group final version Essay
Data Mining Turn in your answers, along with excerpted output as relevant. In this assignment, we
will explore RFM segmentation, a technique used to group customers according to their aggregate
purchase history with a company. We specifically look at how recently customers have purchased (R
recency), how often they have purchased (F frequency), and how much they have spent (M monetary).
We will then consider how these different segments responded to the offer to buy The Art History of
Florence. Use the CUSTOMER.SAV dataset for all parts of this assignment. Team members: WANG

Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report
The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz Combos
perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats but seemed
to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was the holiday
season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees with
christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is a
cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience. This
concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the
combos.
As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone (switched
from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of each song were
not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the trombone player, John and
Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would fall under cool jazz as it stayed
in a relaxed tempo and lighter tone. This piece is paired well with the holiday season as it was upbeat.
One can imagine oneself opening gifts during this holiday season while drinking hot chocolate ...

The beginning sounded similar to a salsa type of music due to the drum s rhythm on the crash cymbal.
Each musician had a solo within each piece. The rhythm section (double bass and drums) did a
phenomenal job at maintaining as well as driving the tempo when it felt dragging. Moreover, they
displayed great control and maturity of their sound throughout their solos. The dexterity and mastery
within their instrument of some of the soloist in this group is inspiring because it truly shows their

Capri Sun Ad Essay Example
Before I analyze my ad, let me give you a quick rundown. In the ad, there is an image of a girl aged 9
12 dancing with an older 50 or so woman. They are supposedly grandma and granddaughter. The
photo is candid and neither are looking into the camera. To the right is the following text, Release
Your Inner Child With Capri Sun Organic. Below that the smaller text reads, New Capri Sun Organic
Healthier, Tastier, and Better Than Ever. Now Containing One Serving of Fruit. This text is wrapped
around a pouch of Capri Sun Organic. Below this, in the even smaller text, there is a clarification that
reads, Each pouch provides ½ cup of fruit which is one serving of fruit according to the U.S. Dietary
Guidelines. At the top of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lastly, there s pathos. Pathos appeals to emotion. Most of this ad is in an attempt to create a certain
mood. First of all, both the models in the ad are happy supposedly because of Capri Sun Organic.
Also, the slogan Unleash Your Inner Child, is an illusion to happier and less stressful times when all
we were doing was having fun. All the allusions to health also make the consumer feel good about
their choice to drink the product. Plus, if people feel good about the product they re more likely to buy
it. In short, everything in this ad is used to create an association between Capri Sun Organic and health
and happiness.
The first advertising technique use is transfer. Transfer is everywhere from the smiling faces of the
models to the use of words like, Organic, Healthier, Tastier, Better, and New. All these words have
positive connotations and images associated with them, which helps give consumers a positive
outlook on the product. Another technique used is weasel words. New Capri Sun Organic Healthier,
Tastier, and Better Than Ever, is misleading. For one it s subjective. While someone may think it s
healthier or tastier, another person may disagree. Also, there is no proof that it is actually tastier or
healthier. Another technique used is facts and figures. Facts and figures can be seen in the 1 serving of

quot; The technology is getting ahead of regulators quot; claims David Weissman, director of money
and technology at Forrester Research Inc., in Cambridge, Mass.
If one is to believe the quote above it sounds very ominous for the regulators and the government to

These issues have been around for along time through the use of other mediums like the phone
system, direct mail marketing, quot;cold calling quot; from quot;boiler plate quot; houses, and even
unscrupulous brokers who work in legimate brokerage houses. People today are still the victims of
these types of scams through the use of the older technologies. So how is it that since the older scams
are still being used is one to believe that they will have anymore success tackling the complex nature
of the Internet and the myriad of scams that could generate from it. The success rate of convictions
from past indiscretions is low at best, one only has to look at the mountain of arrests for quot;insider

for all the hype of cleaning up Wall Street not a whole lot ever came from the scourging. What it
seems to me is Ms. Shapiro would be better suited to try and align her NASDAQ forum with the
Internet technology to take advantage of the technology rather than trying to use the government to
bully people into being afraid to use the technology. Her second quote of quot;there is a tremendous

Objective Lens Lab Report
The objective lens gathers light and bends them to create an inverted real image. By using an objective
lens with a diameter larger than the eyepiece lens, more light would get through the telescope. The
eyepiece lens will then reflect back the image to form an inverted, magnified virtual image in front of
~. For this experiment, the formulas used are the lens equations 1/f = 1/di + 1/do to find the focal
lengths of the lenses, M = fo/fe for the prediction of magnification, and M = Hi/Ho for the actual
measurement of magnification. According to theory, a telescope consisting two convex lenses acting
as objective and eyepiece lens will form an inverted, magnified and virtual image. From the pictures

Essay on Blood Cleans Honor, or So We Are Told
The number of honor killings each year is unknown. Figures are only estimates at the very best. The
Iraq government dismisses the numbers that are published and those outside the country have no way
to identify how many honor killings take place, if they are even recorded somewhere. According the
Human Rights Watch, honor crimes are acts of violence, usually murder, committed by male family
members against female family members who are perceived to have brought dishonor upon the family
(Stop Violence Against Women). Just sheer suspicion can be seen as a reason to commit an honor
killing. This is because honor is a huge aspect of the culture in Iraq. Without it a family has little left.
So if honor is needed to be restored then it must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Article 409 of the Iraq Penal Code; men, specifically only men, have the right to kill if
he [finds] his wife or one of his female dependents in a state of adultery. This is the exact law that is
used in cases of the honor killings. The men who committed the crime will then receive a maximum of
three years in jail, if they are caught, for the honor killing (Bayoumy). Honor killings are not just
socially accepted they are also ignored, as though they are not occurring, by the law. In the case of Du
a Khalil Aswad whose death, which was recorded on a cell phone camera, was posted on the media, in
the video it can be seen that the police are just watching instead of helping (Four Years On). The
police are citizens of Iraq and therefore they are taught the same values of the culture that people who
participate in honor killings are taught. Because of that even the police view honor killings are
acceptable and feel no need to step in to intervene. While women are trying to call question to this
law, it is still in place because of the fact that honor is regarded as a high priority in Iraq and without
honor killings there is no way to restore honor to a family name that has been dishonored.
While few girls are able to escape if they are to be killed in an honor killing, Betrayed by Latifa Ali,
tells the true story of Latifa Ali as she is escaping from her father who would have her

Considering Learning About The World s Complications Essay
Considering learning about the world s complications is quite strenuous, it is only realistic that thirst
for environmental action arise. When taking a break and getting a bottle of water, another call to
action is found in the style of carbon dioxide discharge reduction via water bottles. Not partaking in
the sales of plastic water bottles and instead investing in a reusable bottle can dramatically decrease
the carbon emissions of plastic bottle manufacturers. A special kind of plastic called polyethylene
terephthalate (PET) is melted down to manufacture water bottles, and the process of making the
material itself involves producing around 3 tons of carbon dioxide for every ton of PET made.
Annually, this creates more than 2.6 billion tons of CO2 emissions just from the bottled water industry
( Bottled water and energy factsheet, 2007). Along with the PET engineering emissions, the oil burned
to produce water bottles releases even more C02. It takes around 3.4 megajoules of energy to make a
typical one liter (33 ounce) plastic bottle, cap, and packaging. Making enough PET to bottle America s
yearly quota of water requires more than 106 billion megajoules of energy. Because a barrel of oil
contains around 6,000 megajoules, the Pacific Institute figures more than 17 million barrels of oil
were needed to produce the nation s water bottles ( Bottled water and energy factsheet, 2007). Because
a barrel of oil, when burned, releases almost 700 lbs. of C02, the environmental

Home Invasion Case Summary
This was a significant motion by an informant to supress his subpoena. The motion was brought about
with regards to the limitations of the waiver for confidential informant privilege. The informant was
detained on October 31, 1999 for a home invasion. Subsequently after his apprehension, he gave a
statement to the police connecting three people to the home invasion. The informant pled guilty on
November 25, 1999 in Youth Court. Because of his plea, his declaration implicating the co accused
was never given to his counsel. His counsel discovered that the informant was considered to be a

mother was living, as they wanted to subpoena her for trial as a material witness. The informant did
not want to tell the police where his mother was living, but specified that he wanted to be subpoenaed
for trial and was discouraged that he had not been subpoenaed by the defence. He stated to the two
officers that he was concerned that his friends would go to jail for something they didn t do. The
officer advised him that if he was subpoenaed, his statements would be disclosed to the three accused.

Development of Reader s Feeling for Shylock Throughout...
Development of Reader s Feeling for Shylock Throughout William Shakespeare s The Merchant of
Venice
Shylock s first entrance into the Merchant of Venice leaves you with no definite feelings for him. He
does not immediately stand out as an enthralling character although neither does he strike you as a
selfish person driven by money. Although at this point in the play I believe an audience in
Shakespeare s time would have been forced to show dislike towards Shylock just because Shylock is a
Jew. In Shakespeare s time Jews were seen as outcasts because the large majority of Britain s
population in 15th century were Christians. Today the majority of the people who watch or read the
play will be less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe at this point in the play Shylock would still have had no sympathy from the audience of
the15th Century, Bassino would be earning greater respect because of the way he despises Jews.
Shylock then later presents his proposition, he offers Antonio the 3000 ducats that Antonio has
specified he would like to borrow. On the condition that Antonio pays him back the money within
three months but if Antonio fails to reach the deadline then Shylock Be nominated, for an equal pound
of Antonio s fair flesh . Antonio is confident that he will receive the bonds worth within two months at
the value of thrice three times the value of the bond. Antonio s money is invested in ships that import
goods from foreign countries. The Shakespearean audience at this point would be oblivious to the
catastrophe that is about to encounter Antonio because he has three ships out a sea and they are
expected to return. The audience would be confident that nothing unpleasant could happen to Antonio
as he is a Christian and was helping out a friend by borrowing the money. I believe the audiences in
Shakespeare s time were waiting for Shylock s plan to backfire on himself. Perhaps the audience at
this point would be concentrating on making a mockery of Shylock. Possibly a Shakespearean
audience would be more naïve compared to a 21st Century audience

small opening for people to walk through. The meetings are 1 hour long. I forgot to count the number
of people but if I remember correctly it was approximately 23 people attending including myself. The
meeting that I attended was a support group for children of alcohol parents. The group is called ACA
(Adult Children of Alcoholics) and they meet weekly. The meeting that I attended was held on Friday
November 17, 2017 from 12:00pm 1:00pm. It is considered and open group and people are welcome
to come and go as they please. There is no membership but donations are accepted. The donations are
to help maintain the meeting space and other needs of the group such as materials. I was probably one
of a few people in the young adult group and there were attendees upwards of 50 60 years of age.
I arrived to the group a few minutes early and had to ask for the facilitator. The organization does not

Six Characteristics Of Religion
1) Define religion in terms of its six characteristics sacred, myth, ritual, community, morality, and
religious leaders and explain the possible relations among them.
Religion can be defined with six characteristics: Sacred, myth, ritual, community, morality, and
religious leaders. The first concept of religion is sacred, which is the idea that religion binds
individuals and communities together. Myth is not the conventional definition we think of rather a
much deeper concept. Myth is derived from the Greek word of mythos and is defined as a story that
ties and binds humans into a powerful story about their destiny and origins. These stories, however,
have profound truths behind life and should not be confused with fake stories. ... Show more content

Their role is critical in terms of explaining and in some cases performing these rituals to members of
their community. Historically, rank and file members could not read these sacred texts and therefore
relied on a religious expert/leader to interpret and explain the context of these texts.
2) What are the problems in knowing and understanding the religions that existed before the
development of written language? Oral recitation isn t necessarily the best method to preserve
religious text since errors may arise and alter the original meaning of a certain concept or idea.
Although individuals with these stories and traditions may be able to preserve them through oral
recitation, the generations after them may not be as effective. Furthermore, the interpretation could be
different without having written text as one word could derail the original intent of a story and/or
tradition. Nevertheless, these stories (myths) and traditions could be preserved through song and
dance. Additionally, oral language changes as a result of the inclusion of other more complex
languages. As a result, it becomes incredibly difficult to expand one s religion as other languages are
created. Therefore, the comprehension of religions lacks cultural development without written
language since it was only exclusively known to a small group of people.

1920s Car Industry
Contrary to Wilson s decrepit car garage, the auto repair industry changed rapidly in growth as well as
in jobs during the early twentieth century, while further straddling a wedge within the social hierarchy
as automobiles became more widespread in usage. The automobile industry became an oligopoly with
the formation of the Big Three: Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler (controlling 70% of the industry),
as the rest produced luxury vehicles for the upper class (Batchelor). Companies such as Ford evolved
their vehicles, such as introducing interchangeable parts, enabling the expansion of tools used by
mechanics ( The Auto Mechanic s Trade ). Combined with the increased usage of mass production

Auto mechanics often had a negative perception of all their customers from different social classes,
believing they were all ignorant due to their lack of technological knowledge, and thus could be
exploited for financial gain (Borg, Auto Mechanics: Technology and Expertise ). On the contrary side
vehicle owners often perceived the mechanics to be of low social class and thus intelligence. For
example, Hudson Motor Company had car manuals telling their wealthy customers to be patient with
car mechanics when they were repairing the car, since many are from lower socioeconomic
backgrounds and thus were not as smart as the wealthy car owner (Borg, The Chauffeur Problem 824).
The car owner s perceptions largely drew from the nature of an auto mechanics work, as Auto
mechanics often used their 5 senses to find visual issues with cars, making the profession heavily
reliant on experience (Borg, Auto Mechanics: Technology and Expertise ). This aspect of their work
made them special from other professions, but also made them seem naturally unintellectual in their
work. In fact, the auto electrical repair mechanics, who relied on calculations rather than senses,

The Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand Franz at Sarajevo
It was a peaceful day at Sarajevo. The town had gathered to see the parade, but in the end, witnessed a
crime. Archduke Franz and his wife Duchess Sophie were driving through Sarajevo and expected to
arrive peacefully, but Gavrilo Princip had an assassination in mind for the family. The assassination of
Duke Franz Ferdinand was the most significant assassination of the twentieth century. The series of
unfortunate events, the lives of the killer and the killed, the coincidence and the troubles that ensued
because of this event were key to the beginning of World War I.
Franz Ferdinand was traveling to Sarajevo in June 1914 to inspect the imperial armed forces in Bonzia
and Herzgovina. As they were cruising through the town in an open car, Serbian nationalist Nedjelko
Cabrinovic threw a bomb at their vehicle. The bomb rolled off of the back their vehicle and injured a
few officers and a few civilian. The car sped off and quickly made it to a safe place. Later in the day,
Duke Franz Ferdinand went to visit the people injured. As they turned down the street not expecting
anything, BANG, the royalty had been shot. The assassination that occurred caused two world wars,
eighty thousand deaths, the Rise of Hitler. This may not have happened if Princip had not have been
hungry for a sandwich. Gavrilo looks up from his lunch and notices his opportunity for all the fame
and glory he could get from his terrorist group, the Black Hand. He saw Franz Ferdinand just a few

The Iphone s Success And Widespread Application Of...
The iPhone s success has resulted in the widespread application of touchscreens in many devices.
Touchscreens now become a fundamental tool which facilitates daily tasks, such as e mail, navigation

provide a more natural and direct way to interact with the digital world. However, one drawback of
touch interactions in most current devices is that they are still
two dimensional the interface feels like flat glass because it produces no tactile feedback, and our

Why Is Employee Training A Waste Of Time
The article, Why Your Employee Training Is A Waste Of Time And Money And What To Do About It ,
by Christo Popov seeks to address how training of employees is expensive and worthless to the
company and how it does not increase performance. The research problem being addressed is whether
employee training is a waste of time and money and if the company is selecting the right personnel in
the critical skills for the business`s stage of development and what are the shortfalls of the program.
It is clear from the title of the article that this is no simple issue. In fact, the article`s can be misleading
at a glance. The author starts by saying that companies that are up to present codes of practice will
beat their competition in the present day, however in order to do this the company has to learn quickly
and it cost the company more in 2014 to financially to do this.
SUMMARY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author speaks from personal training and development experience and lists the following as
common problems: no strategic focus to training, not being useful and interesting, and training in long
marathon sessions rather than short bites. In addition, fixes to these common problems are discussed.
First, organizations should plan first and train later. Creating a strategy and execution plan will ensure
core skills and competencies will be addressed. Next, organizations may consider finding trainers that
have actually worked in the field they are training for. Other fixes discussed include: plan for sprints,
not a marathon, road test the training, and spend less, not more. These suggestions can help companies

Archetype In The Hunger Games

feeling nervous, scared, anxious, terrified, relieved, trapped? She was obviously feeling all of these
things and probably a million more, from what I know, she s only a little teenager, and now what, she

In The Time Of The Butterflies Sacrifice
Julia Alvarez s main message being conveyed in her novel In the Time of the Butterflies written in
1995, is that freedom comes at the price of bravery and sacrifice. Throughout the novel, The Mirabal
Sisters are at a constant fight for the freedom of themselves, their family, and even their country. They
learn to use courage and make sacrifices for the sake of their family and the revolution they are
involved in. The acts of courage and sacrifice that exude through this novel illustrate Julia Alvarez s
message that freedom is something that must be fought for.
Sacrifice is a key part of the struggle for freedom in this novel; the two main types of sacrifice
displayed are sacrifices for the revolution and sacrifices for the family. Minerva, ... Show more

The bravest people in the novel are the Mirabal sisters; their bravery is not always planned and a lot of
the time comes by instinct. The Mirabal family is invited to a dinner at one of Trujillo s mansions and
for the first time they actually come in contact with him, especially Minerva, He yanks me by the
wrist, thrusting his pelvis at me in a vulgar way, and I can see my hand in an endless slow motion rise
a mind all its own and come down on the astonished, made up face. (pg 100). Trujillo comports
himself rudely towards Minerva and she slaps him in the face; she slaps the man who kills people

bold attitude. After this occurs, Minerva leaves her purse with letters from Lio inside at the mansion.
The repercussions of the slap and the purse get Minerva and her mother and father sent to the capital

slap says that it is unacceptable for him to treat her this way. One can tell this reaction is instinct from

The next lab session I measured out 3mL of ethanol with a glass pipet and added it to the crude
trimyristin in the round bottom flask. I got a 250mL beaker, filled it half way with water and placed
the flask in it and heated the beaker with the flask on a hot plate until all the solid dissolved and then
let it cool to room temperature.
Once cooled, I placed the flask in an ice bath, which formed an orange solid.
Using suction filtration, I rinsed the solid with a few drops of chilled ethanol since the solid had some
yellow spots (impurities).
I placed the solid in my drawer to dry until the next lab session.
I took out the flask and scraped out the solid and weighed it on the analytical

Hearing impairment paper
Due May 2, 2007
According to Rena Lewis and Donald Doorlag, authors of Teaching Special Students in General
Education Classrooms, a hearing impairment is a disability characterized by a decrease in ability to
hear (pg 425). A child with a hearing impairment has trouble hearing sounds in the range of normal
human speech. There area three basic types of hearing impairments: sensorineural hearing loss,
conductive hearing loss, and mixed hearing loss. Along with these impairments there are many
different signs that as parents and teachers we can look for so that we can have accurate testing done.
Once the impairment is identified we can decide what type of amplification ... Show more content on

Audiology these may consists of using excessively high volumes when watching TV or listening to
the radio, responding in appropriately to questions asked, or failing to answer when being talked to,
intently watching others so that they can imitate what they are doing, experiencing speech problems or
they have delayed speech, they may also be having difficulty in school, and they may also speak
differently than other children of the same age. When any of these signs are noticed an assessment
should be done. Assessment for a hearing impairment is very important, a hearing screening test will
separate you into two groups: a passing group and a failing group. The ones who pass the screening
are presumed to have no hearing loss. If you fail you are in need of an extensive evaluation which
would be performed by an audiologist and you may also need follow up care from other professionals.
Tests for hearing impairments can be performed any time from birth through adult years. According to
the Hearing Loss Association of America more than 7 million children are diagnosed with a hearing
impairment, many of these can be present at birth, or they can develop later in life. The percentages

Copyrights in the Music Industry Essay examples
Is important for anyone who has created any intellectual property to protect it. In the music industry,
in order for someone to protect their work, they must obtain a copyright. Music has been around
before anyone could obtain a copyright and when the invention of the computer came along it made it
easier for someone to steal another artist s intellectual property with the help of the internet. This
paper will cover what events have taken a big role in copyright protection for artist, the consequences
if someone was to break the rules of a copyright which is called copyright infringement, and how will
a copyright hold in the future. Were copyrights enacted without the thought of life changing

The Importance Of Being A Good And Effective Leader
One very important aspect of being a good and effective leader includes valuing your employees and
being able to convey to each employee the value that they have to you and the company as an
individual. Christine Comaford wrote The Value of Valuing Employees discussing the importance of
valuing each employee and discussing six specific pitfalls leaders portray when it comes to valuing
employees. The pitfalls include, failing to respond to employee emails, failing to provide feedback
positive or negative, acknowledging people only when they make mistakes, failing to celebrate
victories, showing favoritism, and burning out employees.
Committing pitfalls in leadership The first pitfall Comaford (2013) discusses is Failing to Respond to
Employee Emails . This pitfall is essentially not making enough time to respond and/or not responding
quickly enough to employees, specifically in emails. By not responding to your employees email in a
timely manner, or simply not responding at all makes the employees mind panic and the employee
begin to question themselves and their importance in the company. I have had this happen in my
previous workplace with my district manager. I would send her emails, leave her notes on her desk, or
even ask her in person, face to face to help me out with something or an answer about something and
nine times out of ten she would forget to respond or help me in anyway. This made me not want to

Gilmore Girls Research Paper
The television show Gilmore Girls was a very successful dramedy created by Amy Sherman Palladino
that starred Laure Graham and Alexis Bledel. It is centered around a young mother named Lorelai
(Graham) and the daughter that she had at sixteen named Rory (Bledel) who live in a very small town,
the fictional Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Lorelai s parents, Richard and Emily Gilmore, live in
Hartford, Connecticut and are rich and proper and have very specific ideas of what a life should look
like. Lorelai never felt like she belonged in that world, which is why she moved to Stars Hollow when
she was seventeen, just a year after she had Rory. Lorelai began her life in Stars Hollow by living in a

These women are portrayed as strong and smart and independent. Rory is valedictorian of her senior
class and gets into both Harvard and Yale, eventually attending Yale. She becomes an active member
of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she hosts parties and fundraisers and is in charge
of a lot of important events. She also becomes editor of the Yale Daily News. Both of these are
positions of power and leadership. Lorelai starts off as the manager of a successful inn and eventually
becomes co owner of her own inn, the Dragonfly, which she buys with her best friend Sookie St.
James (another woman). There are actually a lot of women who own their own businesses in this
show; Miss Patty owns her own dance studio, Mrs. Kim owns Kim s Antiques, Gypsy owns the local
auto shop (and works as a mechanic), just to name a few. This is significant because it isn t often on
television shows that women are shown as businesswomen or business owners, but this show has a
whole host of them. Any woman watching Gilmore Girls is presented with a list of successful women

Stamp Act Summary
First of all, as a Patriot, we colonists have been pretty mad lately. We have made are land in the east
and invested are money into are houses, and now the Proclamation of 1763 has forced Native
Americans to move west. Two years later, 1765, Parliament has passed the Stamp Act. This made us
colonists pay for a tax put on all printed materials, newspaper, wills and playing cards too. The British
officials had applied the stamp after the tax was paid. The Stamp Act taxed us without are consent.
Patrick Henry persuaded the burgess to do something about the Stamp Act because we had about
enough. So Samuel Adams started an organization called the Sons of Liberty, the main goal of the

The Last Cavelli Summary
The Last Cavelli Celebration On a Saturday night in August, Giuseppi Cavelli, his wife Julietta, and
their children gather with family to have a feast celebrating Giuseppe s birthday. The women had
worked hard preparing a menu including hard bread loaves, pasta, cheeses, fruit, and wine. On
occasion, they have fowl or venison, but the last few months, these are not plentiful. They gathered in
the home of Giuseppi s father in the Castello district close to the shipyards . Giuseppi and his father
Arturo are master shipbuilders. As a young man, Arturo fought in the last war against the Genoese. He
received a leg injury that ended his military career. Now, at age 84, he oversees the building of
gondolas. The father and son team build plain boats for the general public and very ornate ones for
aristocrats. They built a spectacular one for the Doge last year. It had gold lanterns and a silk canopy.

Grauballe Man Poem Meaning
The Grauballe Man, is a bog body that has been preserved for more than two thousand years, is one of
Seamus Heaney s North collection poems. Historically, the Grauballe Man is considered to be one of
the most well preserved body of all time. It was discovered in the peat bogs in Jutland, Denmark. The
body showed signs of violence indicating that the man was murdered rather than dying of natural
causes. Heaney s poem indicates his preoccupation with the body because it evokes him of the
atrocities that has happened during The Trouble. Heaney utilizes imagery to describe the bog body,
utilizes metaphor to associate bog body and the victims of Northern Ireland, and utilizes allusion to
make historical references. Heaney explains the cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He connects the Grauballe Man with a famous sculpture in order to connect one thing with another.
Heaney states that, hung in the scales with beauty and atrocity: with the Dying Gaul too strictly
compassed. Dying Gaul is a Hellenistic sculpture that realistically depicts the pain and suffering
experienced by a dying man, the root of the reference is that the pose of the sculpture reminiscences
the death position of the bog man. Heaney uses the allusion of Dying Gaul in order to make the reader
develop the idea of the unification of artifice and nature, which reveals the unique characteristics of
human beings. Additionally, the Grauballe Man itself, is also an allusion. The allusion of the Grauballe
Man exemplifies the brutal history that has happened in the North. The Grauballe Man personifies the
sacrifices for religious excursions in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. Furthermore, the cured
wound opens inward to a dark elderberry place exemplifies that the open wound will forever be
exposed to the brutality and the violence that is happening in Northern Ireland. However, it is very
ironic because the wounds of the bog body can never be cured because the body cannot develop or
heal itself

Therefore, I have decided to examine the social attitudes toward Vietnam veterans. Since I feel so
passionately about the way that Vietnam veterans are viewed, the purpose of my paper is to inform
others about the way that the veterans have been criticized and misrepresented. Personally, I hope to

in me about the Vietnam War and has made me even more interested in the subject.
An interesting book I discovered in the library, which is appropriate in regards to this class, is titled
American Rhetoric and the Vietnam War. The author writes that Vietnam was America s longest and
most controversial war. Thus he adds, Public controversy gives rise to public rhetoric as surely as the
sparks fly upward, and this may help to explain why the Vietnam War was the stimulus for so much
rhetoric, with so much passion, by so many people, for so many years (Gustainis xv). The author has
devoted sections of the book to rhetoric in support of the war, rhetoric opposed to the war, and some
portrayals of the war that were presented to the nation through the mass media.
Another book that I have discovered is from a different viewpoint and is perhaps more effective. The
book, Homecoming, is a history, in the veterans own words, of what it was like to return to the United
States after the most controversial war in the nation s history. This book embodies both ethos and
pathos since it does not

Economic Development Office For The State Of Texas

Governor. One would answer the phone, Office of the Governor, Economic Development... Economic
Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving as governors
slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior offices. The office
was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state. In other ways, the office
directly contrasted Weber s definition. Since the office was able to distribute funds and abate taxes, it
made incredible financial decisions for companies and the taxpayers of the state. Awards could not be
given out based on a specific set of rules. There was careful consideration into a companies intentions,
how they were prepared for the future, and if they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to
attract. In this regard, the office did not always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the
best performing, most ambitious, and took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. A
meritocracy, in direct opposition to a tenured hierarchy, opened a dichotomy between the older and
younger generations. Under performers were let go regardless of tenure. On a

School Uniforms A group of small boys and girls all wearing the same colored school uniforms
assembled in front of a catholic school is what I imagine when thinking about school uniforms. This is
probably what most people imagine. They have been attached to students of European and private

attitude towards schools enforcing a uniform policy. Displayed as robots without the ability to express

A Dallas attorney Domingo Garcia has filed a proposed legislation that would make it mandatory to
wear uniforms in Grades k 12 in Texas (Ramos 1997). The first fundamental issue that school board
officials and lawmakers should look at before they make new policies and laws concerning school
uniforms is, will these new laws and policies have a positive impact on students overall performance.
This would not be limited to academic performances only but should also include other socially
learned behavior that will enhance the students ability to conform to the social norms needed to be
successful in today s society. People for uniforms say that the academic performance has been and will
increase by having the students ware them (Caruso 1996). A lessened degree of attention and concern

economic challenges of students and parents. (Cohn 1996, Paliokos 1996) Nathan Minster, a seventh

Do you know very much about the Greeks? The Greeks had a hard life back then. They had to literally

conditions they had to farm in. They had very many tools also. Some of the major tools were the plow,
winnowing fork, sickles, and pruning hooks. These tools were used for their work. The tools and

The Greeks planted crops in a field for one or two seasons and then let the field lie fallow for several

vegetation by cutting it down and burning it hence slash and burn. The ash from the burned vegetation
added another layer of nutrients to the soil and that along, when the field was resting it let the soil

techniques were nice, but don t forget about they also had to use tools to farm the ground. The major
tools were the plow, sickle, winnowing fork, and a pruning hook. The plow was used for breaking up
the ground. The Greek plow was made out of wood. It made furrows in the ground so they could plant
the seeds. The plows were pulled by oxen or cows. Do you know what the Greeks had to harvest

Role Of Education In Developing Countries
Education in Developing Countries
Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world. Mandela was an activist and former President of South Africa. He believed that a solid was one
of the keys to getting people out of bondage, and allowing them to have access to a better life. Have
you ever wondered what it s like to live in a third world country, where basic needs and necessities of
life are not met? Or even a country with different morals and values than the United States? Imagine
not having the basic necessities of life or being able to have access to something that we take for
granted so much: a basic education. Many countries are faced with poverty, and other living
conditions that result in making it harder for children and even some adults to have access to an
adequate education. According to Global Issues, there are 2.2 billion children in the world, with 1
billion of them living in poverty. When children are forced to live in poverty, they are often deprived
the basic educational tools such as pencils, paper, or even clothes; this causes obtaining an education
harder for that child. The conditions in third world countries compared to the conditions in America,
result in children being deprived an education they deserve. Although third world countries have some
sort of education, we can still do better in terms of the conditions and the fairness that takes place in
the education system.

They end their conversation by saying see you later . They can say good bye to each other and show
their sympathy for each other. Teach talks about friendship as if it is an slogan that no more exists. He
suggests separating friendship from business. Business makes Teach conceive both the robbery and
friendship as business deals. Bob has tried to maintain the good relationship with Don. When he saw
that it is urgent for Don to get back the coin, he tells lie to him. He wanted to sell a buffalo nickel to
him. Actually, he wanted to help Don by giving the coin. Bob acquires his own buffalo nickel so that
he can barter with Don for his friendship. Ruthie also has tried to be a good friend. When Don calls
her to ask about Fletch, she gives the exact information. She helps Bob and saves him from Teach. She
ensures that Bob is not a liar. Though she is angry with Teach and Fletch, but she is helpful to Bob.

He realizes that Bob is important to him more than the business deal. This robbery is also important to
Bob. He feels sorry to Bob. Teach also apologies to Bob. Though he feels bad when his plan is ruined,
but he understands that he should not misbehave with Bob. When he takes Bob to the hospital, he
wears a paper hat. It was raining outside the shop. So the paper hat will not exist in the rain. It will

Historical Investigation to Prove Accuracy in the Film,...
The investigation assesses how accurate the film Defiance was in portraying the experiences of
Bielski Otriad. In order to understand how accurate the film Defiance was, research has to be done to
investigate specific internal and external situations the Bielskis faced during World War II in the
forests of Belarus. Assessing the differences and the similarities in both the movie and the
documentary will be the method used to analyse. The method that will be used in the analysis will
explain the dThe main sources for this investigation are The Bielski Brothers, Jerusalem in the Woods
a documentary that states facts about the Bielski s situations during World War II and Synopsis for
Defiance compiled by IMBD that gives a full synopsis of the film Defiance. B. Summary of Evidence
Prior to the onset of WWII, conditions throughout occupied Poland Belarus varied greatly. In some
areas, especially in eastern Poland, which the Soviet Union invaded in 1939, and subsequently
formally annexed, the situation was particularly volatile.1 The Bielskis had been a Jewish farming
family in the nearby village of Stankiewicze, and the brothers knew the region well. They were
practicing Jews who ran a water mill and the family celebrated the Sabbath and Jewish holidays with
another family, the Dziencielski s, who lived in a nearby village. Their familiarity with its geography,
customs, and people helped them elude the German authorities and their Belorussian auxiliaries.2 In

Pathogens And Bio Toxins
(1) Define Biological Weapons, how they work, and implications. A biological attack is the
...intentional release of a pathogen or bio toxin....against humans plants or animals... (Forest Howard,
2013, p. 113). These pathogens and bio toxins intentionally released are also known as bioweapons
because they can cause economic catastrophe, illness, deaths, fear, and even disruption to normal day
practices. There are three different categories of pathogens and bio toxins dependent on the level of
threat they present. Category A includes the pathogens and bio toxins that have the greatest threat. As
stated in, they are ...easily disseminated and contagious, high mortality rates, may disrupt society,
[and] requires special action for public health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Detecting the threat can be a challenge in itself. Some pathogens and bio toxins don t show symptoms
until later down the route; even then, there has to be a pattern of some sorts to be even recognized as a
problem and not an isolated case. Depending on if the pathogen or bio toxin was aimed at humans or
plants or animals, consequences can differ. An attack on agriculture could possibly be devastating on
economics and food supply. Attacking animals could have the same consequences. Humans on the
other hand are exposed to an entirely different consequence, long term health consequences. As stated,
to those exposed to a biological attack and survive, the long term health consequences are unknown

World War One ( Wwi )
World War One (WWI) is an important event in history and impacted history in a great way for four
years during 1914 to 1918. It is known as the Great War because the French, British, and Germans did
not know there would be another world war in history. The events occurring through August and July
of 1914 had catalysts to help the war build up its stockpile. The war was a conflict between the Allied
Powers (France, Russia, Britain, Italy and the United States), and the Central Powers (Germany,
Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire). The main causes of WWI was the rise in nationalism,
which was very strong in Germany becoming a leading factor, economic imperialism, and the
assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 who was heir to the Austro Hungarian throne. In
Germany, William II, the King of Prussia and emperor of Germany, was not a good leader, but he
exhibited aggressiveness. The rise of German nationalism was exerting influence to the state during
his ruling. During his reign, the Farmer s League was organized in the 1890s, and they influenced
farmers and the rural masses to mobilize against the Jews (they were jealous of the Jews and hated
them due to racism and because they were successful with business enterprises). Anti Semitism was an
idea created by Adolf Hitler, which his ideas caused a lot of racism and conflict. The Navy league and
Pan German League laid a foundation for German nationalism for WWI. By 1914, Germany was the
strongest and highest

How To Write A Crash Bandicoot Essay
The Crash Bandicoot series Crash Bandicoot Crash Bandicoot is a video game franchise of platform
video games. The series, originally exclusive to the Sony Playstation, was created by Andy Gavin and
Jason Rubin during their tenure a Naughty Dog for Sony computer entertainment. Since its conception
at Naughty Dog, the series has appeared on multiple platforms and gone through various developers
and spans numerous genres. The series has a total of eighteen games and sipped over 50 million
copies worldwide. The games are mostly set on the fictitious Wumpa islands, an archipelago situated
to the south of Australia, although other locations are common. The main games in the series are
largely platformers, but several are spin offs in different genres. The protagonist of the series is an
anthropomorphic Bandicoot named Crash, whose quiet life on the Wumpa islands is often interrupted
by the game s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the name implies, he looks like a imitation of Crash Bandicoot, though there are some key
differences (such as the huge eyebrows and big teeth). He also has a rather goofy voice. Fake Crash,
originally created by Naughty Dog, was inspired by a cheap Crash toy that originated in Japan, with
huge eyebrows and teeth. The team started called it Trash Bandicoot , and later Fake Crash . Aku Aku
Aku Aku is a witch whose spirit now lives in a wooden mask who guides Crashs sister Coco, and their
friends as they defeat the forces of evil. He has made appearances in every Crash Bandicoot game,
although one of them is just a cameo. In the platforming Crash games, from the original up until Crash
of the Titans, if 3 masks are found, Crash becomes invincible for a limited of time, with Aku Aku
being placed on Crash s face during this period. He is the deuteragonist of the series, as well as a
father figure to Crash, Coco and their

Analysis Of Into The Wild By Chris Mccandless
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer is about Chris McCandless who was a child born into a well off family
who fit into American society extremely well. After traveling south and receiving his college degree at
Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Chris had the sudden urge to leave everything behind and go on
the adventure of a lifetime. Following in the ideologies and footsteps of his idols Thoreau, Jack
London, and several others; Chris donated all of money to a charity that helps hungry children,
changed his name to Alex Supertramp, and headed West in his old yellow Datsun to escape the hassle
and expectations of society as it is today. He traveled to many places including Colorado, Mexico, The
Grand Canyon, Arizona, California, and South Dakota where he made a lasting impression on Wayne
Westerberg. Chris made huge impacts on several peoples lives along his journey, but always kept them
at arm s length and left before there was an unbreakable connection established. Instead he replaced
the joy that most people get from human interaction and replaced it with feelings of wonder and
exhilaration that pristine nature brought. He lived happily by never staying in one place for too long
and always having something new to explore, going against the modern day norms. Chris s ultimate
journey is to escape to the Alaska wilderness, where he eventually meets his demise by eating
poisonous seeds. It is thought that perhaps he had a change of heart towards modern day society in the

Lumbar Pain Case Studies
REASON CHIEF COMPLAINT: Cervical and lumbar pain. HISTORY The patient is a 62 year old
male with a long history of cervical and lumbar pain secondary to degenerative disk disease and
spondylosis. He also is noted to have multiple other problems including a fairly severe left rotator cuff
arthropathy which does require surgery on the left. It is important to note that this is important because
the patient has been wheelchair bound since 2013 and now has difficulty with ambulation. He also has
a history of prior cervical decompression in the remote past at C3 4. The patient complains of both
cervical and lower extremity pain as well as radiating symptoms in the left upper extremity all the way
down into the level of the hand. He denies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both in the cervical and lumbar region. In terms of conservative management, the patient may benefit
from the addition of an SNRI and either gabapentin or pregabalin. He could also benefit from a
tricyclic. I did discuss all of these with the patient and he is fairly adverse to the use of any of these
types of medications because of feelings that it will affect his liver. At the same time, he is currently
on methadone which he states does not seem to help him as much as morphine has in the past. A
switch to extended release morphine sulfate could be performed and would help in terms of not only
his neuropathic pain, but also his nociceptive pain. In terms of injection therapy, I did discuss both
cervical and lumbar injection therapy with the patient. I went through with him the indications, risks,
benefits, alternatives of care, likely outcome, possible complications, including but not limited to the
risk of bleeding, infection, nerve injury, spinal cord injury that could be associated with injection
therapy. Furthermore, because of the fact that he is a diabetic, he would be at increased risk with
regards to hyperglycemia after the injection and also at increased risk for infection in general. At the
same time, I did review with him the rare but catastrophic adverse events including blindness,

James McManus Mr. Colameco AP United States History 7 January 2013 Example Document Based
Question Nearly all of the reasons for agrarian discontent in the late 19th century stem from three
areas: land, transportation, and money. The farmers were fighting the perceived threats posed by
monopolies and trusts, railroads, and the demonetization of silver. The American farmer during this
period already had his fair share of problems which, compared to the success of the industrialized
businessmen, resulted in much of the animosity between the two groups. The fact of the matter was
farmers had entered a viscous cycle. Wheat and cotton, once the staples of American agriculture were
selling at such low prices that it was almost impossible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As crop prices fell, farmers were forced to mortgage their lands and take out loans in order to grow
more and more crop just to break even. When these tactics were ultimately unsuccessful, the banks
closed in and quickly foreclosed on the farmers estates. These mass foreclosures led to a belief among
farmers that they were all slaves to their eastern masters and that only the freedom of unlimited silver
would release them from their shackles. One can see the argument from the farmer s side. The banks
gave out loans with exorbitant interest rates simply because they could. From 1865 to 1895, the
population had risen by close to eighty percent whereas the amount of currency in circulation had only
gone up by about sixty percent. With this deflation, the farmers were paying back double and triple the
amount of money that they had originally borrowed. With free coinage of silver, these loans would be
balanced and the farmers could suddenly afford their mortgages. This argument for silver was made
famous by William Jennings Bryan s Cross of Gold speech at the democratic nomination convention.
Bryan would not rest until the Crime of 1873 was rectified. McKinley however shows the counter
argument towards this radical inflation. Coining silver would be a temporary stay of execution for the
farmers. It would not make farming any more profitable, but would only cheat the banks out of money
that the farmers had agreed to pay them. The farmers were

  • 3. Saddleback College Jazz Concert Report The date was December 8th, 2017, I had the pleasure of seeing the Saddleback College Jazz Combos perform at the McKinney Theater. The theater is quite large holding about 100~200 seats but seemed to offer a good acoustic balance for the combos that played. Also, one can tell that it was the holiday season by just entering the theater. It was festive as it was decorated with christmas trees with christmas lights and the front was filled with light up flower vases. Furthermore, this concert is a cumulation of different jazz students put into small groups and perform in front of an audience. This concert also showcases their efforts as a group as well as differences in skill level amongst the combos. As for the first group, the Alvarado Combo consisted of a bass, piano, trombone, saxophone (switched from alto to tenor after the first piece), and drums played two songs. While the titles of each song were not disclosed, one of them is originally composed by the drummer and the trombone player, John and Andrew respectively. In effort to classify this genre of music, it would fall under cool jazz as it stayed in a relaxed tempo and lighter tone. This piece is paired well with the holiday season as it was upbeat. One can imagine oneself opening gifts during this holiday season while drinking hot chocolate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Below that the smaller text reads, New Capri Sun Organic Healthier, Tastier, and Better Than Ever. Now Containing One Serving of Fruit. This text is wrapped around a pouch of Capri Sun Organic. First of all, both the models in the ad are happy supposedly because of Capri Sun Organic. Also, the slogan Unleash Your Inner Child, is an illusion to happier and less stressful times when all we were doing was having fun. All the allusions to health also make the consumer feel good about their choice to drink the product. Plus, if people feel good about the product they re more likely to buy it. In short, everything in this ad is used to create an association between Capri Sun Organic and health and happiness. The first advertising technique use is transfer. Transfer is everywhere from the smiling faces of the models to the use of words like, Organic, Healthier, Tastier, Better, and New. All these words have positive connotations and images associated with them, which helps give consumers a positive outlook on the product. Another technique used is weasel words. New Capri Sun Organic Healthier, Tastier, and Better Than Ever, is misleading. For one it s subjective. While someone may think it s healthier or tastier, another person may disagree. Also, there is no proof that it is actually tastier or healthier. Another technique used is facts and figures. Facts and figures can be seen in the 1 serving of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

( Think about how the Internet has already influenced trading.) quot; The technology is getting ahead of regulators quot; claims David Weissman, director of money and technology at Forrester Research Inc., in Cambridge, Mass. If one is to believe the quote above it sounds very ominous for the regulators and the government to attempt to even bring this media under any kind of regulation. So how is it that since the older scams are still being used is one to believe that they will have anymore success tackling the complex nature of the Internet and the myriad of scams that could generate from it. The success rate of convictions from past indiscretions is low at best, one only has to look at the mountain of arrests for quot;insider trading quot;, that the government launched during the late 1970 s through the middle 1980 s to realize for all the hype of cleaning up Wall Street not a whole lot ever came from the scourging. What it seems to me is Ms. Shapiro would be better suited to try and align her NASDAQ forum with the Internet technology to take advantage of the technology rather than trying to use the government to bully people into being afraid to use the technology. The Iraq government dismisses the numbers that are published and those outside the country have no way to identify how many honor killings take place, if they are even recorded somewhere. According the Human Rights Watch, honor crimes are acts of violence, usually murder, committed by male family members against female family members who are perceived to have brought dishonor upon the family (Stop Violence Against Women). Just sheer suspicion can be seen as a reason to commit an honor killing. This is because honor is a huge aspect of the culture in Iraq. Without it a family has little left. According to Article 409 of the Iraq Penal Code; men, specifically only men, have the right to kill if he [finds] his wife or one of his female dependents in a state of adultery. This is the exact law that is used in cases of the honor killings. The men who committed the crime will then receive a maximum of three years in jail, if they are caught, for the honor killing (Bayoumy). Honor killings are not just socially accepted they are also ignored, as though they are not occurring, by the law. In the case of Du a Khalil Aswad whose death, which was recorded on a cell phone camera, was posted on the media, in the video it can be seen that the police are just watching instead of helping (Four Years On). The police are citizens of Iraq and therefore they are taught the same values of the culture that people who participate in honor killings are taught. Because of that even the police view honor killings are acceptable and feel no need to step in to intervene. While women are trying to call question to this law, it is still in place because of the fact that honor is regarded as a high priority in Iraq and without honor killings there is no way to restore honor to a family name that has been dishonored. • 8. Considering Learning About The World s Complications Essay Considering learning about the world s complications is quite strenuous, it is only realistic that thirst for environmental action arise. When taking a break and getting a bottle of water, another call to action is found in the style of carbon dioxide discharge reduction via water bottles. Not partaking in the sales of plastic water bottles and instead investing in a reusable bottle can dramatically decrease the carbon emissions of plastic bottle manufacturers. A special kind of plastic called polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is melted down to manufacture water bottles, and the process of making the material itself involves producing around 3 tons of carbon dioxide for every ton of PET made. Annually, this creates more than 2.6 billion tons of CO2 emissions just from the bottled water industry ( Bottled water and energy factsheet, 2007). Along with the PET engineering emissions, the oil burned to produce water bottles releases even more C02. It takes around 3.4 megajoules of energy to make a typical one liter (33 ounce) plastic bottle, cap, and packaging. Making enough PET to bottle America s yearly quota of water requires more than 106 billion megajoules of energy. Because a barrel of oil contains around 6,000 megajoules, the Pacific Institute figures more than 17 million barrels of oil were needed to produce the nation s water bottles ( Bottled water and energy factsheet, 2007). Because a barrel of oil, when burned, releases almost 700 lbs. of C02, the environmental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Six Characteristics Of Religion 1) Define religion in terms of its six characteristics sacred, myth, ritual, community, morality, and religious leaders and explain the possible relations among them. Religion can be defined with six characteristics: Sacred, myth, ritual, community, morality, and religious leaders. The first concept of religion is sacred, which is the idea that religion binds individuals and communities together. Myth is not the conventional definition we think of rather a much deeper concept. Myth is derived from the Greek word of mythos and is defined as a story that ties and binds humans into a powerful story about their destiny and origins. These stories, however, have profound truths behind life and should not be confused with fake stories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their role is critical in terms of explaining and in some cases performing these rituals to members of their community. Historically, rank and file members could not read these sacred texts and therefore relied on a religious expert/leader to interpret and explain the context of these texts. 2) What are the problems in knowing and understanding the religions that existed before the development of written language? Oral recitation isn t necessarily the best method to preserve religious text since errors may arise and alter the original meaning of a certain concept or idea. Although individuals with these stories and traditions may be able to preserve them through oral recitation, the generations after them may not be as effective. Furthermore, the interpretation could be different without having written text as one word could derail the original intent of a story and/or tradition. Nevertheless, these stories (myths) and traditions could be preserved through song and dance. Additionally, oral language changes as a result of the inclusion of other more complex languages. As a result, it becomes incredibly difficult to expand one s religion as other languages are created. Therefore, the comprehension of religions lacks cultural development without written language since it was only exclusively known to a small group of people. 3) What is the ... Archduke Franz and his wife Duchess Sophie were driving through Sarajevo and expected to arrive peacefully, but Gavrilo Princip had an assassination in mind for the family. The assassination of Duke Franz Ferdinand was the most significant assassination of the twentieth century. The series of unfortunate events, the lives of the killer and the killed, the coincidence and the troubles that ensued because of this event were key to the beginning of World War I. Franz Ferdinand was traveling to Sarajevo in June 1914 to inspect the imperial armed forces in Bonzia and Herzgovina. As they were cruising through the town in an open car, Serbian nationalist Nedjelko Cabrinovic threw a bomb at their vehicle. The bomb rolled off of the back their vehicle and injured a few officers and a few civilian. The car sped off and quickly made it to a safe place. Archetype In The Hunger Games The Journey I was thirteen years old, sitting on my couch watching The Hunger Games, when Katniss starts to say, I volunteer, I volunteer as tribute! with a terrifying look on her face. Now, I know it s not real or anything, I mean, it s just a movie, but I can t help but wonder what thoughts were racing through her mind at the beginning of the most life threatening experience that anyone could ever have. Was she feeling nervous, scared, anxious, terrified, relieved, trapped? She was obviously feeling all of these things and probably a million more, from what I know, she s only a little teenager, and now what, she has to fight for her life and the whole district? • 19. In The Time Of The Butterflies Sacrifice Julia Alvarez s main message being conveyed in her novel In the Time of the Butterflies written in 1995, is that freedom comes at the price of bravery and sacrifice. Throughout the novel, The Mirabal Sisters are at a constant fight for the freedom of themselves, their family, and even their country. They learn to use courage and make sacrifices for the sake of their family and the revolution they are involved in. The acts of courage and sacrifice that exude through this novel illustrate Julia Alvarez s message that freedom is something that must be fought for. The Mirabal family is invited to a dinner at one of Trujillo s mansions and for the first time they actually come in contact with him, especially Minerva, He yanks me by the wrist, thrusting his pelvis at me in a vulgar way, and I can see my hand in an endless slow motion rise a mind all its own and come down on the astonished, made up face. (pg 100). Trujillo comports himself rudely towards Minerva and she slaps him in the face; she slaps the man who kills people daily in the face. This act had to take an absurd amount of courage to commit and exhibits Minerva s bold attitude. After this occurs, Minerva leaves her purse with letters from Lio inside at the mansion. The repercussions of the slap and the purse get Minerva and her mother and father sent to the capital to be questioned. Although this act gets Minerva in trouble, she shows courage to Trujillo and with the slap says that it is unacceptable for him to treat her this way. One can tell this reaction is instinct from the quote saying, a mind all of its own , showing that Minerva, no matter who the perpetrator, refuses to let this crude action occur. The Importance Of Being A Good And Effective Leader One very important aspect of being a good and effective leader includes valuing your employees and being able to convey to each employee the value that they have to you and the company as an individual. Christine Comaford wrote The Value of Valuing Employees discussing the importance of valuing each employee and discussing six specific pitfalls leaders portray when it comes to valuing employees. The pitfalls include, failing to respond to employee emails, failing to provide feedback positive or negative, acknowledging people only when they make mistakes, failing to celebrate victories, showing favoritism, and burning out employees. Committing pitfalls in leadership The first pitfall Comaford (2013) discusses is Failing to Respond to Employee Emails . This pitfall is essentially not making enough time to respond and/or not responding quickly enough to employees, specifically in emails. By not responding to your employees email in a timely manner, or simply not responding at all makes the employees mind panic and the employee begin to question themselves and their importance in the company. I have had this happen in my previous workplace with my district manager. I would send her emails, leave her notes on her desk, or even ask her in person, face to face to help me out with something or an answer about something and nine times out of ten she would forget to respond or help me in anyway. Have you ever wondered what it s like to live in a third world country, where basic needs and necessities of life are not met? Or even a country with different morals and values than the United States? Imagine not having the basic necessities of life or being able to have access to something that we take for granted so much: a basic education. Many countries are faced with poverty, and other living conditions that result in making it harder for children and even some adults to have access to an adequate education. According to Global Issues, there are 2.2 billion children in the world, with 1 billion of them living in poverty. When children are forced to live in poverty, they are often deprived the basic educational tools such as pencils, paper, or even clothes; this causes obtaining an education harder for that child. The conditions in third world countries compared to the conditions in America, result in children being deprived an education they deserve. Although third world countries have some sort of education, we can still do better in terms of the conditions and the fairness that takes place in the education system. According to Global ... • 43. World War One ( Wwi ) World War One (WWI) is an important event in history and impacted history in a great way for four years during 1914 to 1918. It is known as the Great War because the French, British, and Germans did not know there would be another world war in history. The events occurring through August and July of 1914 had catalysts to help the war build up its stockpile. The war was a conflict between the Allied Powers (France, Russia, Britain, Italy and the United States), and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire). The main causes of WWI was the rise in nationalism, which was very strong in Germany becoming a leading factor, economic imperialism, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914 who was heir to the Austro Hungarian throne. In Germany, William II, the King of Prussia and emperor of Germany, was not a good leader, but he exhibited aggressiveness. The rise of German nationalism was exerting influence to the state during his ruling. During his reign, the Farmer s League was organized in the 1890s, and they influenced farmers and the rural masses to mobilize against the Jews (they were jealous of the Jews and hated them due to racism and because they were successful with business enterprises). Anti Semitism was an idea created by Adolf Hitler, which his ideas caused a lot of racism and conflict. The Navy league and Pan German League laid a foundation for German nationalism for WWI. After traveling south and receiving his college degree at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Chris had the sudden urge to leave everything behind and go on the adventure of a lifetime. Following in the ideologies and footsteps of his idols Thoreau, Jack London, and several others; Chris donated all of money to a charity that helps hungry children, changed his name to Alex Supertramp, and headed West in his old yellow Datsun to escape the hassle and expectations of society as it is today. He traveled to many places including Colorado, Mexico, The Grand Canyon, Arizona, California, and South Dakota where he made a lasting impression on Wayne Westerberg. Chris made huge impacts on several peoples lives along his journey, but always kept them at arm s length and left before there was an unbreakable connection established. Instead he replaced the joy that most people get from human interaction and replaced it with feelings of wonder and exhilaration that pristine nature brought. He lived happily by never staying in one place for too long and always having something new to explore, going against the modern day norms. Chris s ultimate journey is to escape to the Alaska wilderness, where he eventually meets his demise by eating poisonous seeds. • 47. 1983 Apush Dbq James McManus Mr. Colameco AP United States History 7 January 2013 Example Document Based Question Nearly all of the reasons for agrarian discontent in the late 19th century stem from three areas: land, transportation, and money. The farmers were fighting the perceived threats posed by monopolies and trusts, railroads, and the demonetization of silver. The American farmer during this period already had his fair share of problems which, compared to the success of the industrialized businessmen, resulted in much of the animosity between the two groups. The fact of the matter was farmers had entered a viscous cycle. Wheat and cotton, once the staples of American agriculture were selling at such low prices that it was almost impossible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As crop prices fell, farmers were forced to mortgage their lands and take out loans in order to grow more and more crop just to break even. When these tactics were ultimately unsuccessful, the banks closed in and quickly foreclosed on the farmers estates. These mass foreclosures led to a belief among farmers that they were all slaves to their eastern masters and that only the freedom of unlimited silver would release them from their shackles. One can see the argument from the farmer s side. The banks gave out loans with exorbitant interest rates simply because they could. From 1865 to 1895, the population had risen by close to eighty percent whereas the amount of currency in circulation had only gone up by about sixty percent. With this deflation, the farmers were paying back double and triple the amount of money that they had originally borrowed. With free coinage of silver, these loans would be balanced and the farmers could suddenly afford their mortgages. This argument for silver was made famous by William Jennings Bryan s Cross of Gold speech at the democratic nomination convention. Bryan would not rest until the Crime of 1873 was rectified. McKinley however shows the counter argument towards this radical inflation. Coining silver would be a temporary stay of execution for the farmers. It would not make farming any more profitable, but would only cheat the banks out of money that the farmers had agreed to pay them. The farmers were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
