Transcontinental Telegraph
The Telegraph The idea behind the telegraph was to send electric signals across wires. This originated
in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually
following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured
funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The
success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The
telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and
disconnect the two parts. Every time the key was tapped, an electrical pulse will go through the wire
and wherever the reviving end is, the electrical pulse will create ... Show more content on

But the indirect impact was huge as it made trade much quicker as detailed information about
shipments could be sent faster than the goods themselves. It allowed for the rise of most multinational
corporations as they could run regional operations from a central head office. It aided the fight against
crime as criminals found using distance increasingly more difficult. Lastly it helped integrate women
into the world of work as operators and supervisors. This shows how the telegraph was a very
important invention for communication worldwide during the Industrial

Persepolis Research Paper
Marjane Satrapi uses different techniques to effect the reality of occurring events and culture in the
graphic novel, Persepolis. The author uses social class, gender, and racial differences within the
graphic novel to effect the reality of occurring events such as the Iranian revolution during 1979.
Social class differences are effective in the graphic novel Persepolis because the way Marjane presents
the information shows how everyone is treated differently depending on their social class. There are
many events that occur during the graphic novel that give example of the difference in treatment of
social classes. Even during the 20th century, men and women were not seen equally. Men were seen as
the superior gender, based on the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marjane s father, Eby, tells his neighbor that Mehri is not his daughter but his maid, therefore leading

flummoxed and responded with, But is it her fault that she was born where she was born???... Dad, are
you for or against social classes? Soon after there was a new maid in Marji s home. The author utilizes
this in her graphic novel to show the reader how social class affected Iranians in different ways than
just how wealthy they are or are not. Gender partially relates to how the social class affects Iranians
because women were not treated respectively as they should have and men were also at times not
treated respectively. For example, children at the age of eight had to leave their homes to go work for
other families, such as Mehri. Boys and girls left their homes to work as maids, window washers, or
carpet weavers. These children of Iranian families and citizens of Iran had to leave their homes to
work because their families grew large and because of their low social class, causing them to need

An Evaluation Of A Marketing Audit
A marketing audit is a systematic approach to examining existing products and services for strengths
and weaknesses. It often focuses on the Ps of marketing including product, price, place, and promotion
along with other elements. The purpose of the marketing audit is to appraise the organization s current
status and provide recommendations for future action. Darlene Weingand (1999) adapted Philip Kotler
s definition of a marketing audit. It s a comprehensive, systematic, independent, periodic examination
of the information agency s total environment, objectives, strategies, activities, and resources in order
to determine problem areas and opportunities and to recommend a plan of action. An audit is used to
identify capabilities and challenges in the organization. This assessment should include both internal
and external investigations. The internal aspect focuses on the library itself, while the external aspect
explores the larger organization, the local community, and the larger country. The marketing audit
provides the basis for making informed decisions about library activities. What s realistic and
unrealistic for your organization? What makes your programs unique? What changes need to be made
in the library s programs and services? http://eduscapes.com/marketing/2.htm TABLE OF

Planning and Individually Designed Business Essay
Q1: What are make to order (MTO) and make to stock (MTS)? Why did EA cakes want MTS over
MTO? Do you agree with such a decision? Why or why not?
Q2: What are aggregate: capacity planning (ACP), master product scheduling (MPS) and shop floor

Q3: How is the adoption of SAP viewed by (a) production staff, (b) IT staff and (c) the management?
Q4: Can a standard software system like SAP give adequate computer support to an individually

The financial goals of the company are forecasted by demand.
Master production scheduling (MPS) is a plan that has been developed by a company for production,
inventory, staffing etc. MPS gives the operation manager of an MTS company the ability to ensure
that available capacity is allocated with a customer focus.
Shop floor scheduling prioritizes, schedules work, and communicates the progress of work regarding
the schedules and plans that have been made. Shop floor planning is necessary to ensure that expected
quantities are completed on time and that resources such as labor, materials, machinery and equipment
are used to best effect.
The production staffs viewed the adoption of SAP as an ERP system that focuses on function such as
inventory, finance, accounting, production, etc. They had doubt about how SAP modules are relevant
to their business processes. The production staffs believed the functional view poorly represents the
interaction with other functional views.
The IT staffs were certain that the existing SAP software will provide all necessary computer support.
They believed that even if the SAP would not fit their business processes precisely, it may be an
investment that provides greater long term flexibility and better solutions to the company s problem.

A Jazz Concert Report
An Evening of Jazz
On November 17th, 2016, I attended a jazz concert and had quite a time. The experience was
captivating, and gave me a warm feeling inside. There were three different bands that play in the hour
slot, and all of them sounded magnificent, but The Santé Fe Jazz Combo and Santa Fe Big Band stood
out the most. The only thing these two bands have in common is that some of the musicians play in
both bands. Otherwise, these jazz fanatics are polar opposites.
When listening to The Santé Fe Jazz Combo, you get a mellow feeling that courses through your body.
Their opener Recorda Me, which was my favorite piece, featured solos from Dr. Hamilton on Piano,
Spencer Hoefert on Guitar, Ben Salhanick on Bass, Doc B on Alto Sax, Wyatt Thomas on Trombone,
and Noah Woolard on Drum Set. The song had a moderate swing tempo that kept your feet tapping up
until the solo. First, the brass rang through their part, then the electric instruments. Next came the
bass; he was strumming so fast but he was barely audible. The pianist busting through with a tricky
piano rift and the drummer finished it off with an intense solo. Every rim shot sent a jolt into the air
like lightning and the buzz rolls sounded like thunder. Noah s part reminded me why I love playing the
drums. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

smooth vocals that mixed beautifully with the hefty brass section. The whole ensemble s collaboration
was effortless. Right when you think it is over, Michael Gray comes out with a Soprano Saxophone

Teaching Students with Diverse Abilities
Teaching students whose first language is not English is often a challenging task. This essay will focus
on a few effective teaching and learning strategies for teaching business studies to second language
learners (ESL learners) in the context of the mainstream classroom.
Studies reveal that the negative effects of wrong beliefs about learning are significant (Sawir 2005).
However, it has also been suggested that it is possible to intervene in relation to beliefs about learning
(Sawir 2005). Hence a clear understanding of belief issues is of paramount importance for teachers.
Care should be taken to give speaking and listening skills the appropriate status and these should be
backed by comprehensive practical programs (Sawir 2005). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The guidance of an ESL mentor can help a teacher understand his/her ESL students quickly and
prevent possible problems later in the year (Mittica 2003). The ESL mentor can also provide training
on accommodations and alternate forms of assessment.
The ESL mentor can assist the teacher to set achievable goals for ESL students at the beginning of the
semester. In teaching ESL students, success is not always measured on a report card. Therefore,
teachers have to be guided to observe his/her ESL students closely by focusing on issues such as the
progress demonstrated by the student over time and by observing to see if the student is more
comfortable participating in class and asking questions (Mittica 2003). Above all, ESL mentors can
provide a vision of students as capable individuals for whom limited English proficiency does not
signify a lack of academic skills and does not represent an incurable situation (Walqui, 1999 in
Mittica, 2003). ESL mentors can guide mainstream teachers in discovering his/her students strengths
and to celebrate multicultural education (Mittica 2003). By fully involving mainstream classroom
teachers in the education of ESL students, these students will be more likely to achieve success and
adjust to their lives in a new country (Mittica 2003).

Coronation Of Charlemagne
On 25 December 800, Pope Leo III crowned the Frankish king Charlemagne as Emperor, reviving the
title in Western Europe after more than three centuries. The title continued in the Carolingian family
until 888 and from 896 to 899, after which it was contested by the rulers of Italy in a series of civil
wars until the death of the last Italian claimant, Berengar, in 924. The title was revived in 962 when
Otto I was crowned emperor, fashioning himself as the successor of Charlemagne and beginning a
continuous existence of the empire for over eight centuries. Some historians refer to the coronation of
Charlemagne as the origin of the empire,[14][15] while others prefer the coronation of Otto I as its
beginning.[16][17] Scholars generally concur,

The Theme Of Ambition In Dr. Faustus And Twelfth Night
The theme of ambition plays an important role in both Dr. Faustus and Twelfth Night. Faustus, a man
ambitious enough to risk everything to gain infinite knowledge and power, allows his ambition to be
the downfall of him. Malvolio, likewise, allows his ambition to guide his judgment rather than remain
true to what he knows. During the times of Marlowe and Shakespeare, it was frowned upon to be
ambitious. Due to this, Marlowe and Shakespeare both show ambition to be a terrible quality in
people, exemplified through their character s downfalls. Marlowe uses the genre of his play to
illustrate how serious it can be to have ambition. Shakespeare uses his comedic genre to add dark
humor to his play due to having ambition. This paper will analyze the works of Marlowe and
Shakespeare, Dr. Faustus and Twelfth Night, using the genre of the plays to illustrate the dark path
ambition can lead a person.
Christopher Marlowe portrays ambition to be a terrible quality in humans. He exemplifies this through
the immoral decisions Faustus makes throughout the play and inevitably his death in the end. Dr.
Faustus was a man of great knowledge. He was highly educated in all subjects, however, that was not
enough for him. He wanted to be more and know more than any other human. He, therefore, began to
learn the art of necromancy, black magic. His ambition to be more than other humans led him down a
dark path. Marlowe uses the genre of the play, tragedy, to illustrate how misleading ambition can

Arguments Against Pseudonyms
The ever increasing amount of people utilizing the internet as a means of communication has led to
many interesting phenomena. One that can be easily observed on many online forums is the use of
pseudonyms instead of actual names. The ability to utilize pseudonyms when creating online profiles
allows people to protect their identities, enabling them to freely voice their opinions without fear of
retaliation. When browsing through online comment sections and social media, it is common to come
across people writing under pseudonyms. The reasons for using an alias can be many; while there are
people that utilize online anonymity as a way of shielding their personal life from internet backlash,
others choose to abuse anonymity in order to spew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Online Anonymity Protects Marginalized Groups, the author argues that online
anonymity is used by marginalized groups to preserve their privacy. The venues the author refers to
are the social networks Facebook and Google Plus, which have real name policies that forbid the use
of pseudonyms (Boyd, par. 7). The author attempts to answer if said policies protect users or if they
increase user vulnerability. She states that the stakeholders in this issue are those most affected by
prohibiting pseudonyms and nicknames, the vulnerable and marginalized members of society such as
abuse survivors, activists, LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender] people, women, and young
people (Boyd, par. 3). The values attached to the issue are those of safety, as people often utilize
pseudonyms to preserve their physical and mental health, as well as that of their families (Boyd, par.
2). Boyd is against the enforcement of real name policies because it exposes those who need
protection, arguing that you don t guarantee safety by stopping people from using pseudonyms, but
you do undermine people s safety by doing so (Boyd, par. 11). The author concludes that enforcing
real names policies in online spaces is an abuse of power (Boyd, par. 12). The solution she presents is
simply not enforcing real name

Those who are of above average to genius intelligence usually perform well in school, academically
and go on to college and many have successful careers. The other end of the spectrum has created
many schools have special programs for the developmentally disabled which there is a big need for.
Yet what happens to those in the middle? Rabbi Aaron Friedman compares the middle of the road
students to the middle class in the economy. It is a big issue yet not many people have a solution for
them. He feels that rather than always putting the emphasis on the above average students which many
schools like to tout we need to have smaller classes which will help more students be able to keep up
in college and beyond. In order to not have more students fall through the cracks we need to focus on
educating them the right way so they can make it through college and have successful careers. ...

Aintroduction. A Strong And Resilient Banking System Is
A Introduction
A strong and resilient banking system is a foundation of sustainable economic growth. Banks are at
the centre of the credit intermediation process between savers and investors. Moreover, banking
institutions provide critical services to consumers, small and medium sized enterprises, large corporate
firms and governments, which rely on banks to conduct their daily business, both at a domestic and
international level. However, the failure of a bank is unlike that of a non bank firm, owing to their
systemic risk. The failure of banks have the ability to impose large costs on society externalities which
are not borne by bank shareholders; banks are materially different in their financing, business model
and balance sheets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banks on the other hand, due to their significance, are subject to different treatment in the event they
become insolvent . The contagion effect of bank failure is a powerful incentive to bail out a bank if the
only alternative is a standard bankruptcy mechanism. Furthermore, lack of costs shared by investors
creates moral hazards due to bailouts and deposit insurance enabled by governments and regulators.
Equally concerning is that the more systemically important the bank, the more likely it will be able to
rely on government support should it get into difficulties. For these reasons, banks need to be resolved
differently to non bank firms.
For completeness, it should be noted that while this chapter focuses on banks, there are firms that fall
within the shadow banking system that can pose similar risks to the financial system as banks (i.e.
broker/dealers, insurance companies, asset managers and alternative payment systems).
Analysis: effective tools for resolution of banks
Accepting that banks differ to non bank firms (as discussed), an argument that supports permitting
banks to fail is to overcome the moral hazard of government handouts, which is partially due to the
distinctive corporate governance challenges of banks. However, this requires effective tools to ensure
that the resolution of banks do not trigger a contagion effect on the financial system. While the
standard bankruptcy process can have a

When Christopher Marlowe, the most famous playwright in his time (Lace, 79), died, William
Shakespeare was his successor. Shakespeare decided drama was to be his career after seeing the
Queen s Players during a visit to his hometown of Stratford on Avon in 1587 (Lace, 79). By the time
of Marlowe s death, Shakespeare was already well known for his three part Henry VI in 1592 (Lace,
79). His plays Love s Labour s Lost and Romeo and Juliet , both in 1594, were performed and he
became the most outstanding playwright of his time (Lace, 79). Before Elizabeth s reign was over,
Richard II , Julius Caesar , Henry V , and Hamlet had been performed (Lace, 79). James Burbage was
the second most influential actor of the Elizabethan period, but not only for his acting talent. Burbage
built the first ever public playhouse in England, opening in 1576 (Unknown, 218). Burbage financed
the building of The Theater alone, a well off man but was still considered a rogue. Actors were not the
only influence on theater. When Mary Tudor decided the throne was rightfully hers, the War of the
Roses ensued (Lace, 73). Because of the War of the Roses, many nobles, that employed actors, were
killed (Lace, 73). This forced actors to form their own troupes (Lace, 73). In 1572, parliament passed

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Naproxen
2. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
A great number of drugs available on the market contain an active ingredient that is poorly soluble in
water and has a low dissolution rate. Various approaches to improve these properties exist. One of the
most common approaches is the production of a solid dispersion (SD), whereas the use of porous
carriers, such as calcium carbonate, also proved to be potential.
Since naproxen is a substance with good permeability and low solubility (Class II according to BCS),
dissolution is the limiting factor that determines the speed and extent of absorption of the active
ingredient.
In the context of the master s thesis it will be investigated whether, by incorporating naproxen, which
is practically insoluble in water, into calcium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The maximum plasma concentration is reached after 2 to 4 hours, whereas the equilibrium
concentration (steady state) is established after 4 to 5 doses, respectively within 2 to 3 days. Plasma
concentrations of naproxen are increasing in proportion to a dose of up to 500 mg, while higher doses
were less proportionate. Plasma protein increases the creatinine clearance due to the saturation binding
of naproxen.
Distribution
Plasma concentrations of naproxen are in the usual dose between 23 mg/L and 49 mg/L. 99 % of
plasma proteins bind naproxen at concentrations of up to 50 mg/L, whereas at higher concentrations
the unbound drug amount is increased. Thus, at a concentration of 473 mg/L 2.4 % of unbound
naproxen were measured. Due to the strong binding to plasma proteins, the volume of distribution is
low and amounts to only 0.9 L/kg of body weight.
Metabolism and excretion
There is no presystematic metabolism. Naproxen is extensively metabolized by the liver and excreted
almost entirely via the kidneys (97.5 to 99 %) and only a very small proportion through feces. Less
than 10 % of the active substance is excreted unconverted and 60 % in the particular form of
conjugates with glucuronic acid. The remaining portion (30 %) is subjected to demethylation by the
liver, resulting in the production of 6 O desmethyl naproxen or its conjugates. This metabolite is
pharmacologically

Examples Of The Myth Of Employee Engagement
6 Biggest Myths of Employee Engagement
Employee Engagement has no distinct definition. Many believe its meaning to be synonymous to
terms such as job satisfaction, company loyalty, and retention of talents and potential to over achieve.
All of this and more can only be derived by empowering the employees. Therefore, dear managers,
developing a relationship of trust with your employees is crucial for an organization to thrive in today
s competitive world. This piece will enlighten you regarding the significance of engaging your
employees and how to accomplish this feat by competently negating these myths mentioned below.

organizations, they account for the credibility of the company. Customers are motivated to invest in a
company only when they judge for themselves how invested its own employees are.
Myth 5: There is no secret formula for Employee Engagement Deloitte, however, listed these five
factors as ingredients of this secret formula, meaningful work, hands on management, positive work
environment, growth opportunity and trust in leadership, (Shahid Azhar, 2013). Effective leadership is

13 Reasons Why Books Should Be Banned
What is a banned book? Well a banned book is a book that people have tried to get teens not to read,
not only teens but also for younger children. This means that people don t like what content may be in
a book, they think it s inappropriate or not meeting the standards for the age group. That s when
banning a book takes place. Before a book can be considered banned a person has to challenge the
book. No,not like a like a fight with a book, but just an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based
upon the objections of a person or a group. says The American Library Association. Then after the
book is challenge the library board will decide if the book shall be banned or not. A lot of books are
banned and 13 reasons why is one of them. Teens should be allowed to read 13 reasons why because it

Critical Analysis Of Hester Prynne
In the critical essay On The Scarlet Letter by D.H. Lawrence, Lawrence criticizes the portrayal of
Hester Prynne in the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence displays his views
of the novel by using juvenalian satire to express his thoughts in a humorous, insightful way. He
narrows down on his scrutiny of the novel s main character, Hester Prynne. In his analysis, he focuses
on Hester Prynne s devilish acts in seducing Dimmesdale which is a hidden sin. D.H. Lawrence
effectively utilizes a mocking tone, a staccato like syntax, and a biblical allusion. Lawrence uses a
mocking tone to convey his thoughts about how Hester Prynne is the devil. One example of how
Lawrence demonstrates a mocking tone is when he states, Oh, Hester, you are a demon. A man must
be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence 1). Lawrence criticizes Hester by saying that
she has the capability to destroy someone who is perfectly pure. Even the best person in the world
would instantly fail just because of Hester according to Lawrence. He also states that The greatest
triumph a woman can have, especially an American woman. Is the triumph of seducing a man:
especially is he is pure. (Lawrence 1). Lawrence especially berates Hester for committing adultery, as
he believes that adultery is one of the biggest sins that one can commit. His mocking tone in this
remark, conveys how he thinks that Hester is the worst character in the novel due to all of her actions.
Lawrence s mocking tone shows how he thinks that Hawthorne accepts adultery too easily. In order to
express Lawrence s dismay for Hester Prynne, he uses a staccato like syntax. He uses short sentences
to express the importance of what he is saying. For example, he states Flop. , Flop goes spiritual love.
in two different lines (Lawrence 1). By stating these quotes, it also represents how Hester would never
find true love because of how much of an awful person she is He states his thoughts in two short
sentences to express his ideas quickly and effectively. This is because he thinks Hawthorne is too
accepting about the idea and act of adultery. His use of these short phrases allows Lawrence to express
his thought efficiently and effectively.

Congress. The executive branch gets requests from the federal agencies saying that different things
and projects need money or that they don t need money. So basically they discuss what project is more
important. Yet these are all only proposals so they can either be accepted or denied depending on what
the people think the country needs.
The second step to creating the federal government budget is the House and Senate pass budget
resolutions. A budget resolution is not a binding document, but it provides a framework for Congress
for making budget decisions about spending and taxes. In this process they set limits but do not create
the actual budgets for the programs. After the House and Senate pass their budget resolutions, some
members from each come together in a joint conference to iron out differences between the two
versions, and the resulting reconciled version is then voted on again by each chamber.
The third step to creating the federal government budget is the House and Senate Appropriations
subcommittees markup appropriations bills. The chair of each subcommittee writes a first draft of the
subcommittee s appropriations bill, abiding by the

The Images Of Women s The Man Is A Modern Day...
The images of women approach is an approach that sanctions us to examine the female characters in a
film and determine if they are a positive or negative representation of authentic women. The main
focus of the female roles in She s the Man is an unaccepted female soccer player and gregariously
approved debutante. She s the Man is a modern day representation of Hollywood film demonstrating
the images of women approach through a social aspect.
In order to understand the context of this film, a historical overview of the portrayal of women as
soccer players and the creation of debutantes would give a comprehensive outlook. Beginning with the
18th century, in Scotland, there were folk football games between married and single women .
(Macbeth 6) After World War I, the Scottish Football Association ostracized women s football because
it was less relevant in context of social reorganization (Macbeth 13). In addition to, several societies
adolescent girls are presented as young women to the public. Queen Elizabeth I began the custom of
formally presenting eligible young women at court in Europe (Escals, 709 16). Following with Queen
Victoria contributes a ceremony tradition with girls dressed in white and the official bow . (Escals, 709

unfortunate turn of events however, I am confident that Beachbody will be able realigned and strongly
reorganize as it has done so in the past under Mr. Carl Daikeler s leadership.
In my role at Beachbody I reviewed a lot of performance and call volume reports so, I was in touch
with the current state of Beachbody. Nonetheless, being selected caught me off guard because of two
reasons. Firstly, was due to my conversations with my manager s manager, Executive Director of
Telemarketing Ryan Bicknell in the month s leading up to receiving the notice. Mr. Bicknell had asked

Without a doubt, Beachbody has done a lot for me and my family since I began working for the
company in November of 2010. During the rough times realigning groups or improving for
performance I was always confident Beachbody was doing right by their employees. It was Helene,
Babak, and Lee s continuous involvement that was one of the main reasons I was comfortable
delivering over 350 job jeopardy conversations to improve Beachbody s performance and accomplish
its goals. Furthermore, the company has always been more than fair in the past when making tough
decisions. I would kindly ask for the two of you to review the documents provided to me on 2/22/2017
especially the document titled, Offer of Confidential Separation and General Release Agreement .
I ask for this special request because at this time losing my sole source of income comes at a sensitive
and more than personally confidential time. I am currently going through a divorce and have sole
custody of my four sons during the litigation. My schedule at Beachbody made it possible for me to
gain custody without having to ask for any special treatment from my manager or affect my work
performance. I am no confident starting out at new company this will be the case. I just want to make
sure that as I move on into new endeavors that my four sons and I are set up for

An Interview On Child Welfare
As a helping professional focused on child welfare, educational resources are essential to provide
children with adequate support. Often times, the children s advocates, caregivers and volunteers, need
assistance connecting with the school to secure social work services. There have been countless
occurrences where the child is faltering academically and the school is unaware that they are in foster
care. The teachers are overworked and unable to identity which children are in the greatest need
because there are many who struggle. Linking the advocates with social workers will help increase the
likelihood of the children s success. Increasing the awareness of the children s advocates, informing
them of the available resources, enhances their support system. An interview was conducted with a
social worker for several public schools to increase awareness of the free services offered to families
and children within the district. An interview was conducted with Ashley Fortune MSW, a school
social worker for several schools within Gilbert Public School District. Ashley Fortune received her
Bachelors in Social Work from Arizona State University, subsequently receiving her Masters in Social
Work. Throughout the duration of Mrs. Fortune s professional career, she explored various roles
within the field of social work. Post completion of her Bachelors, she worked in residential center for

Race And Gender Equality In America
Have we really came far in the fight for racial and gender equality in America? We have made
constant strides towards equality, but there is still a substantial amount of work to be done. The road
ahead will be long and difficult, but for our society to become better we must learn how to be equal.
According to Oxforddictionaries.com to be equal is (of people) having the same status, rights, or
opportunities . The controversy within the topic of race and gender causes hatred towards individuals,
nevertheless open dialogue and understanding will lead us to a better future.
For us to use communication as a building block towards equality, first we must understand how to

Examples Of Cannibalism In The Odyssey
Many people think that one eats anothers flesh because they are crazy, but really sometimes people are
forced to do it for survival. In the Odyssey a cyclops named Polyphemus purposefully ate some men
of Odysseus s army because he wanted them all dead. In 1884, the starving crew of the ill fated yacht
Mignonette sacrificed a man in order to survive. The crew of 4 men turned to cannibalism for survival,
not because they wanted to, but because they had to. Cannibalism is something no human being
should resort to, but these four men on the Mignonette Yacht had no other choice than to go in that
direction.
On 19 of May 1884 four men set sail from Southampton in a small yacht, already knowing the dangers
of the ocean, but clueless of what a lasting

The Apostle Paul
3.1 Describe Paul s gospel in regards to the elements he learned from the disciples in Jerusalem and in
regards to those elements he received by revelation. To whom did Paul talk when he went to
Jerusalem? How do we know? Show the similarities and differences between tradition and revelation
in Paul s gospel.
Three years after his conversion, Paul went to Jerusalem to meet with Cephas (Peter). He remained in
Jerusalem for fifteen days. After this time, he also met with James, the Lord s brother. It was from
Peter that Paul learned of the tradition, i.e., the details of Jesus teachings during His earthly ministry.
It was important for Paul to inquire about the teachings that the disciples had received from the Lord
during his time on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In discussing the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, Paul uses almost the same words to convey the
fact that he was transmitting the original traditions. He says in I Corinthians, For I delivered to you as
of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins...
In the parable of the prodigal son , Jesus tells of a father s unconditional love and acceptance to his
repentant son to illustrate God the Father s unconditional love and grace to repentant sinners. Paul
follows accordingly in his teaching where he emphasizes that believers are no longer slaves but
legitimate sons and heirs of God.
In the parable of the laborers in the vineyard, Jesus teaches that His love and grace are unmerited and
do not depend on what one does or doesn t do. Grace is grace, and it is free for all at whatever time of
life it is accepted. Paul s teaching confirms this. In Galatians, Paul reproves the Galatian believers for
thinking that salvation could be changed from faith in God s grace to dependence on the law. The
merging of tradition and revelation in both of the gospel parables mentioned above resonate with me.
It is important for contemporary hearers of the Word of God to know that the salvation from God is
unconditional and unmerited. It is not dependent on what one does or doesn t do, but on the love and
grace of almighty God through His Son Jesus

Literary Devices In Donald Barthelme s The School
In the short story The School, written by Donald Barthelme, many different literary devices are being
utilize like order of events, phraseology, point of view etc. The literary device that stands out the most
in the short story The School is point of view. Barthelme uses point of view by making the teacher the
story teller which gives the story a different mood than it would if it was told from a distinct
perspective. Point of view is a position or perspective from which something is considered or
evaluated (Merriam Webster, n.d.)Barthelme s use of point of view leads to the interpretation of the
story in a totally unusual way which makes the story much less creepy than it should be.
The author of The School grabs the reader s attention at the beginning of the short story by using the
narrator s story, about the time when the children planted trees to teach them about growth, nature and
responsibility. All the kids had to plant their own little tree, but all the little trees ended dying, and as a
result they ended with little brown sticks instead. By using the word little when expressing the trees
and later the sticks the author is trying to convey a mood of depression and sensitivity. Barthelme is
trying to portray the image of a lot of small kids sad for the death of their small trees. The narrator
then proceeds to explain how before all the trees died all the snakes had died too due to a strike which
resulted on the boiler being off for days. The kids understood

  • 2. Transcontinental Telegraph The Telegraph The idea behind the telegraph was to send electric signals across wires. This originated in the early 1700s and France was the first country to have a rough system by 1798. Eventually following was a system which used Morse code. Professor Samuel Morse had successfully secured funding and in 1843 a telegraph system was produced from Washington D.C. to Baltimore. The success of the system was seen and by 1861 the first transcontinental telegraph line was built. The telegraph was a very simple 3 part machine. It had a battery, electromagnet, and a key to connect and disconnect the two parts. Every time the key was tapped, an electrical pulse will go through the wire and wherever the reviving end is, the electrical pulse will create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It allowed for the rise of most multinational corporations as they could run regional operations from a central head office. The author uses social class, gender, and racial differences within the graphic novel to effect the reality of occurring events such as the Iranian revolution during 1979. Social class differences are effective in the graphic novel Persepolis because the way Marjane presents the information shows how everyone is treated differently depending on their social class. There are many events that occur during the graphic novel that give example of the difference in treatment of social classes. Even during the 20th century, men and women were not seen equally. Men were seen as the superior gender, based on the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marjane s father, Eby, tells his neighbor that Mehri is not his daughter but his maid, therefore leading to Mehri heart break. Eby explained to his daughter, You must understand that their love was impossible... Because in this country you must stay within your own social class. Marji was flummoxed and responded with, But is it her fault that she was born where she was born???... Dad, are you for or against social classes? Soon after there was a new maid in Marji s home. The author utilizes this in her graphic novel to show the reader how social class affected Iranians in different ways than just how wealthy they are or are not. Gender partially relates to how the social class affects Iranians because women were not treated respectively as they should have and men were also at times not treated respectively. For example, children at the age of eight had to leave their homes to go work for other families, such as Mehri. Boys and girls left their homes to work as maids, window washers, or carpet weavers. These children of Iranian families and citizens of Iran had to leave their homes to work because their families grew large and because of their low social class, causing them to need more money to support ... It often focuses on the Ps of marketing including product, price, place, and promotion along with other elements. The purpose of the marketing audit is to appraise the organization s current status and provide recommendations for future action. Darlene Weingand (1999) adapted Philip Kotler s definition of a marketing audit. It s a comprehensive, systematic, independent, periodic examination of the information agency s total environment, objectives, strategies, activities, and resources in order to determine problem areas and opportunities and to recommend a plan of action. An audit is used to identify capabilities and challenges in the organization. This assessment should include both internal and external investigations. The internal aspect focuses on the library itself, while the external aspect explores the larger organization, the local community, and the larger country. Shop floor scheduling prioritizes, schedules work, and communicates the progress of work regarding the schedules and plans that have been made. The production staffs viewed the adoption of SAP as an ERP system that focuses on function such as inventory, finance, accounting, production, etc. They had doubt about how SAP modules are relevant to their business processes. The production staffs believed the functional view poorly represents the interaction with other functional views. The IT staffs were certain that the existing SAP software will provide all necessary computer support. They believed that even if the SAP would not fit their business processes precisely, it may be an investment that provides greater long term flexibility and better solutions to the company s problem. • 6. A Jazz Concert Report An Evening of Jazz On November 17th, 2016, I attended a jazz concert and had quite a time. The experience was captivating, and gave me a warm feeling inside. There were three different bands that play in the hour slot, and all of them sounded magnificent, but The Santé Fe Jazz Combo and Santa Fe Big Band stood out the most. The only thing these two bands have in common is that some of the musicians play in both bands. Otherwise, these jazz fanatics are polar opposites. When listening to The Santé Fe Jazz Combo, you get a mellow feeling that courses through your body. Their opener Recorda Me, which was my favorite piece, featured solos from Dr. Hamilton on Piano, Spencer Hoefert on Guitar, Ben Salhanick on Bass, Doc B on Alto Sax, Wyatt Thomas on Trombone, and Noah Woolard on Drum Set. The song had a moderate swing tempo that kept your feet tapping up until the solo. First, the brass rang through their part, then the electric instruments. Next came the bass; he was strumming so fast but he was barely audible. The pianist busting through with a tricky piano rift and the drummer finished it off with an intense solo. Every rim shot sent a jolt into the air like lightning and the buzz rolls sounded like thunder. Noah s part reminded me why I love playing the drums. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay will focus on a few effective teaching and learning strategies for teaching business studies to second language learners (ESL learners) in the context of the mainstream classroom. Studies reveal that the negative effects of wrong beliefs about learning are significant (Sawir 2005). However, it has also been suggested that it is possible to intervene in relation to beliefs about learning (Sawir 2005). Hence a clear understanding of belief issues is of paramount importance for teachers. Care should be taken to give speaking and listening skills the appropriate status and these should be backed by comprehensive practical programs (Sawir 2005). ... Therefore, teachers have to be guided to observe his/her ESL students closely by focusing on issues such as the progress demonstrated by the student over time and by observing to see if the student is more comfortable participating in class and asking questions (Mittica 2003). • 9. The Theme Of Ambition In Dr. Faustus And Twelfth Night The theme of ambition plays an important role in both Dr. Faustus and Twelfth Night. Faustus, a man ambitious enough to risk everything to gain infinite knowledge and power, allows his ambition to be the downfall of him. Malvolio, likewise, allows his ambition to guide his judgment rather than remain true to what he knows. During the times of Marlowe and Shakespeare, it was frowned upon to be ambitious. Due to this, Marlowe and Shakespeare both show ambition to be a terrible quality in people, exemplified through their character s downfalls. Marlowe uses the genre of his play to illustrate how serious it can be to have ambition. Shakespeare uses his comedic genre to add dark humor to his play due to having ambition. This paper will analyze the works of Marlowe and Shakespeare, Dr. Faustus and Twelfth Night, using the genre of the plays to illustrate the dark path ambition can lead a person. Christopher Marlowe portrays ambition to be a terrible quality in humans. He exemplifies this through the immoral decisions Faustus makes throughout the play and inevitably his death in the end. Dr. Faustus was a man of great knowledge. He was highly educated in all subjects, however, that was not enough for him. He wanted to be more and know more than any other human. He, therefore, began to learn the art of necromancy, black magic. His ambition to be more than other humans led him down a dark path. • 10. Arguments Against Pseudonyms The ever increasing amount of people utilizing the internet as a means of communication has led to many interesting phenomena. One that can be easily observed on many online forums is the use of pseudonyms instead of actual names. The ability to utilize pseudonyms when creating online profiles allows people to protect their identities, enabling them to freely voice their opinions without fear of retaliation. When browsing through online comment sections and social media, it is common to come across people writing under pseudonyms. The reasons for using an alias can be many; while there are people that utilize online anonymity as a way of shielding their personal life from internet backlash, others choose to abuse anonymity in order to spew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article Online Anonymity Protects Marginalized Groups, the author argues that online anonymity is used by marginalized groups to preserve their privacy. The venues the author refers to are the social networks Facebook and Google Plus, which have real name policies that forbid the use of pseudonyms (Boyd, par. 7). The author attempts to answer if said policies protect users or if they increase user vulnerability. She states that the stakeholders in this issue are those most affected by prohibiting pseudonyms and nicknames, the vulnerable and marginalized members of society such as abuse survivors, activists, LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender] people, women, and young people (Boyd, par. 3). The values attached to the issue are those of safety, as people often utilize pseudonyms to preserve their physical and mental health, as well as that of their families (Boyd, par. 2). Boyd is against the enforcement of real name policies because it exposes those who need protection, arguing that you don t guarantee safety by stopping people from using pseudonyms, but you do undermine people s safety by doing so (Boyd, par. 11). The author concludes that enforcing real names policies in online spaces is an abuse of power (Boyd, par. 12). The solution she presents is simply not enforcing real name ... The other end of the spectrum has created many schools have special programs for the developmentally disabled which there is a big need for. Yet what happens to those in the middle? Rabbi Aaron Friedman compares the middle of the road students to the middle class in the economy. It is a big issue yet not many people have a solution for them. He feels that rather than always putting the emphasis on the above average students which many schools like to tout we need to have smaller classes which will help more students be able to keep up in college and beyond. • 12. Aintroduction. A Strong And Resilient Banking System Is A Introduction A strong and resilient banking system is a foundation of sustainable economic growth. Banks are at the centre of the credit intermediation process between savers and investors. Moreover, banking institutions provide critical services to consumers, small and medium sized enterprises, large corporate firms and governments, which rely on banks to conduct their daily business, both at a domestic and international level. However, the failure of a bank is unlike that of a non bank firm, owing to their systemic risk. The failure of banks have the ability to impose large costs on society externalities which are not borne by bank shareholders; banks are materially different in their financing, business model and balance sheets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banks on the other hand, due to their significance, are subject to different treatment in the event they become insolvent . The contagion effect of bank failure is a powerful incentive to bail out a bank if the only alternative is a standard bankruptcy mechanism. Furthermore, lack of costs shared by investors creates moral hazards due to bailouts and deposit insurance enabled by governments and regulators. Equally concerning is that the more systemically important the bank, the more likely it will be able to rely on government support should it get into difficulties. For these reasons, banks need to be resolved differently to non bank firms. For completeness, it should be noted that while this chapter focuses on banks, there are firms that fall within the shadow banking system that can pose similar risks to the financial system as banks (i.e. broker/dealers, insurance companies, asset managers and alternative payment systems). Analysis: effective tools for resolution of banks Accepting that banks differ to non bank firms (as discussed), an argument that supports permitting banks to fail is to overcome the moral hazard of government handouts, which is partially due to the distinctive corporate governance challenges of banks. However, this requires effective tools to ensure that the resolution of banks do not trigger a contagion effect on the financial system. While the standard bankruptcy process can have a ... His plays Love s Labour s Lost and Romeo and Juliet , both in 1594, were performed and he became the most outstanding playwright of his time (Lace, 79). Before Elizabeth s reign was over, Richard II , Julius Caesar , Henry V , and Hamlet had been performed (Lace, 79). James Burbage was the second most influential actor of the Elizabethan period, but not only for his acting talent. Burbage built the first ever public playhouse in England, opening in 1576 (Unknown, 218). Burbage financed the building of The Theater alone, a well off man but was still considered a rogue. Actors were not the only influence on theater. When Mary Tudor decided the throne was rightfully hers, the War of the Roses ensued (Lace, 73). Because of the War of the Roses, many nobles, that employed actors, were killed (Lace, 73). This forced actors to form their own troupes (Lace, 73). In 1572, parliament passed the Poor Laws, making it a criminal offense to be a vagabond (Lace, 75). This reduced the number of acting companies and required them to be ... • 16. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Naproxen 2. RESEARCH OBJECTIVES A great number of drugs available on the market contain an active ingredient that is poorly soluble in water and has a low dissolution rate. Various approaches to improve these properties exist. One of the most common approaches is the production of a solid dispersion (SD), whereas the use of porous carriers, such as calcium carbonate, also proved to be potential. Since naproxen is a substance with good permeability and low solubility (Class II according to BCS), dissolution is the limiting factor that determines the speed and extent of absorption of the active ingredient. In the context of the master s thesis it will be investigated whether, by incorporating naproxen, which is practically insoluble in water, into calcium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The maximum plasma concentration is reached after 2 to 4 hours, whereas the equilibrium concentration (steady state) is established after 4 to 5 doses, respectively within 2 to 3 days. Plasma concentrations of naproxen are increasing in proportion to a dose of up to 500 mg, while higher doses were less proportionate. Plasma protein increases the creatinine clearance due to the saturation binding of naproxen. Distribution Plasma concentrations of naproxen are in the usual dose between 23 mg/L and 49 mg/L. 99 % of plasma proteins bind naproxen at concentrations of up to 50 mg/L, whereas at higher concentrations the unbound drug amount is increased. Thus, at a concentration of 473 mg/L 2.4 % of unbound naproxen were measured. Due to the strong binding to plasma proteins, the volume of distribution is low and amounts to only 0.9 L/kg of body weight. Metabolism and excretion There is no presystematic metabolism. Naproxen is extensively metabolized by the liver and excreted almost entirely via the kidneys (97.5 to 99 %) and only a very small proportion through feces. Less than 10 % of the active substance is excreted unconverted and 60 % in the particular form of conjugates with glucuronic acid. The remaining portion (30 %) is subjected to demethylation by the liver, resulting in the production of 6 O desmethyl naproxen or its conjugates. This metabolite is pharmacologically ... Customers are motivated to invest in a company only when they judge for themselves how invested its own employees are. Myth 5: There is no secret formula for Employee Engagement Deloitte, however, listed these five factors as ingredients of this secret formula, meaningful work, hands on management, positive work environment, growth opportunity and trust in leadership, (Shahid Azhar, 2013). • 20. Critical Analysis Of Hester Prynne In the critical essay On The Scarlet Letter by D.H. Lawrence, Lawrence criticizes the portrayal of Hester Prynne in the novel, The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Lawrence displays his views of the novel by using juvenalian satire to express his thoughts in a humorous, insightful way. He narrows down on his scrutiny of the novel s main character, Hester Prynne. In his analysis, he focuses on Hester Prynne s devilish acts in seducing Dimmesdale which is a hidden sin. D.H. Lawrence effectively utilizes a mocking tone, a staccato like syntax, and a biblical allusion. Lawrence uses a mocking tone to convey his thoughts about how Hester Prynne is the devil. One example of how Lawrence demonstrates a mocking tone is when he states, Oh, Hester, you are a demon. A man must be pure, just that you can seduce him to a fall (Lawrence 1). Lawrence criticizes Hester by saying that she has the capability to destroy someone who is perfectly pure. Even the best person in the world would instantly fail just because of Hester according to Lawrence. He also states that The greatest triumph a woman can have, especially an American woman. Is the triumph of seducing a man: especially is he is pure. (Lawrence 1). Lawrence especially berates Hester for committing adultery, as he believes that adultery is one of the biggest sins that one can commit. His mocking tone in this remark, conveys how he thinks that Hester is the worst character in the novel due to all of her actions. Lawrence s mocking tone shows how he thinks that Hawthorne accepts adultery too easily. In order to express Lawrence s dismay for Hester Prynne, he uses a staccato like syntax. He uses short sentences to express the importance of what he is saying. For example, he states Flop. , Flop goes spiritual love. in two different lines (Lawrence 1). By stating these quotes, it also represents how Hester would never find true love because of how much of an awful person she is He states his thoughts in two short sentences to express his ideas quickly and effectively. This is because he thinks Hawthorne is too accepting about the idea and act of adultery. His use of these short phrases allows Lawrence to express his thought efficiently and effectively. ... Literary Devices In Donald Barthelme s The School In the short story The School, written by Donald Barthelme, many different literary devices are being utilize like order of events, phraseology, point of view etc. The literary device that stands out the most in the short story The School is point of view. Barthelme uses point of view by making the teacher the story teller which gives the story a different mood than it would if it was told from a distinct perspective. Point of view is a position or perspective from which something is considered or evaluated (Merriam Webster, n.d.)Barthelme s use of point of view leads to the interpretation of the story in a totally unusual way which makes the story much less creepy than it should be. The author of The School grabs the reader s attention at the beginning of the short story by using the narrator s story, about the time when the children planted trees to teach them about growth, nature and responsibility. All the kids had to plant their own little tree, but all the little trees ended dying, and as a result they ended with little brown sticks instead. By using the word little when expressing the trees and later the sticks the author is trying to convey a mood of depression and sensitivity. Barthelme is trying to portray the image of a lot of small kids sad for the death of their small trees. The narrator then proceeds to explain how before all the trees died all the snakes had died too due to a strike which resulted on the boiler being off for days. The kids understood ...
