Shukracharya is in a fix. If he revives Kacha, who is already in his stomach, he will be killed. He asks
his daughter to choose whether she wants her father alive or Kacha. Devayani is shattered, but she

To model radioactive decay and half life
HYPOTHESIS
The trend will mimic the pattern of the half life of a radioactive material, with the same approximate
curve, because the M Ms with m showing will be approximately half of the total M Ms at every half
life, which is the same as decaying radioisotopes, with half the atoms disappearing every half life.
MATERIALS
A packet of M Ms
A clean sheet of paper (A4)
A clean jar/cupcake cup
PROCEDURE
1. Copy the table from the criteria sheet into your workbook
2. Count the total number of M Ms in the container
3. Shake up the container to mix the M Ms around
4. Pour the container onto the clean sheet of paper
5. Count how many M Ms show the letter m facing upwards
6. Record this number in the table
7. Place only the M Ms showing the letter m back into the jar and dispose of the other M Ms
appropriately
8. Repeat steps 3 7 until there are no M Ms left

electron and gamma being the release of energy at the speed of life known as gamma rays). In this
experiment, the M Ms without m represent the decaying atoms, which are launching themselves out to
become more stable, and the repeats are the half lives, the M Ms showing m are the atoms that are still

The Prince Vs A Man For All Seasons Essay
Introduction The purpose of this assignment is to compare and contrast theories on ethics made by
Nicolo Machiavelli in his book The Prince, and in Robert Bolt s film, A Man for All Seasons. In class,
we have discussed the subject of the Ethics Triangle, which includes Virtue, Consequence and
Principle at its three corners. In this paper, I will discuss which ethical characteristics exemplify both
Machiavelli and More and to establish key differences in their beliefs regarding ethics.

could obtain a divorce and marry another. In his Act of Supremacy, Henry desired to be installed as
the head of the Church of England. He required all nobility swear an oath that would establish his

and defy his own faith, or deny the king and face retaliation, chose to resign from his position and say
nothing that would reveal either opinion. He encountered difficulties as many campaigned against him
to establish that from his silence, one could infer that he did not recognize the king s supremacy and
therefore committed treason. More, upon appeal by his family to proclaim the king s supremacy whilst
maintaining in his heart the opposite, refused to do so. He believed it would compromise his virtue in

Intellectual Property and Economy
Intellectual property is the main elements for economic growth and national competitiveness.
President Obama mentioned that the United States of America must support intellectual property
rights to be successful in an increasingly competitive international market which help the American
people to meet their goals. It clearly shows that supporting of intellectual property by government
completely related to economy because it has a direct relationship with innovation which is the main
buddy in economy, and its benefits will effect to every single industries. In addition, Intellectual
property is not just the final product of workers and companies but also it has positive effects to
innovation of products, supplies, and commercial activities (U.S. Patent and Tred mark office 2012).
Moreover, Intellectual property needs to be supported by government because it is the most important
keys in creating new jobs. According to U.S. Patent and Tred mark office (2012) the number of direct

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This case is about how a company should allocate costs. Mr. Delaney is the owner of an automobile
dealership that is profitable but not profitable in the area of the body shop department.. The
predicament that he faces is that he needs to figure out how to allocate the costs among his different
profit centers. One of the things that Mr. Delaney did in trying to assist himself was to hire a
consultant. The consultant was one that is very competent in analyzing the issues of cost, both fixed,
variable and semivariable. He then tried to relate his knowledge to help Mr. Delaney in his dilemma.

Mr. Delaney would be doing himself a disservice if his prices were not in line with the rest of his
competitors. Unless he could retain a profit margin equal to his competitors with lower prices I think
he should raise them to industry standard.
3.
The action Mr. Delaney should take should be the one that is most in line with his goals, mission and
vision for the company. It seems as if he wants to retain the level of service for the buck he is giving
his customers so I think he feels comfortable doing this and that is what he should do. I also think he
should increase prices slowly if it is warranted by the industry and at the same time try to reduce the
costs associated with the body shop to increase profit margin for that department.
Conclusions/Recommendations
This case brought to light the importance of allocating the costs of a company to the correct
departments and the benefits of doing so in the analysis of each department.
The consultant seemed to make a recommendation based upon inaccurate cost allocations and a lack
of analysis of the prices of competitors.
What Mr. Delaney should do is to get an accurate system in which he could allocate costs accurately
to the proper department. Do the analysis which is needed based on accurate cost allocation and then
make his decision after he gets a report on actual prices in the industry for the

Another critic also said that although Leonardo worked on the Mona Lisa over a number of years in a
number of different cities, none of his business or household records contain any mention of a model
who might have sat for the portrait.
In an article in the January issue of Arts and Antiques, Schwartz describes how her conclusions tie
together a number of seemingly unrelated anomalies in the painting, its shadowy quality, the unusual
dress, the lack of jewelry, the awkward pose and the split pair of unrelated landscapes on either side of
the figure.
She points out that Leonardo s delight in riddles caused him to plant clues in all his paintings and that
the Mona Lisa was no exception.
When these clues are taken together with da Vinci s known homosexuality and life style, a picture
emerges of the great painter creating a disguised self portrait in women s clothes.
As Schwartz puts it, That famous smile, so tantalizing for so many centuries is the mirrored smile of
da Vinci himself.
Another says he haven t seen the big deal of the painting. He quoted It s just a portrait of a not
particularly interesting woman against a dark and mountainous backdrop. Undoubtedly highly
proficient technically, it is, to my eye, an unemotional and unmoving piece of art.

Alice in Wonderland Film Technique Review
Amen Yohannes
1. In Tim Burton s Alice in Wonderland, how does he use film technique to emphasise Alice s bland,
ridged and depleted real world?
In Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton uses many film techniques to emphasise to viewers the extent to
which Alice s world is bland, ridged and depleted. A few of these many techniques are, camera filters,
soundscape, costume, setting, and ensemble. In the opening scenes of the film, there was clear usage
of filters to convey to viewers the dreary world in which Alice lived in. He uses a pale, cold and white
filter. This filter portrays the character s appearance to be deteriorated, cold and uncomfortable.
Furthermore, the pale filter used makes the scenery look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. How does Burton use film technique to present the Wonderland as a magical, mystical and nonsense
universe? [i.e. computer generated characters, film exposure, colour, music, etc.]
Wonderland is depicted as being a land of magic, mystery and nonsensical occurrences. The director
Tim Burton has been able to do this by the use of numerous filmic techniques. One of the techniques
was the soundscape, in the film the sound scape created the desired aura, and ambiance to signify the
wackiness of Wonderland . The sound which accompanied anything related to wonderland can be
described as airy, harmonious and awestruck, however occasionally it may be interrupted by a natural
noise, like a pig running (as seen in the 1st scene of wonderland). It has slow, yet easy transitions
between the various notes, making it somewhat fluid. A great example of this type of soundscape is
around 11.42; here the music is elevated and accompanied with a vocal choir as the rabbit is from
Wonderland. This orchestral arrangement, especially the choir adds an element of mystery and
suspense. It also creates a euphoric atmosphere. Another evidence to show the close correlation
between the soundscape and Wonderland is that, every time wonderland is the subject of discussion,

Gothic Trope Deception In Caleb Williams
Not only does Ann Radcliffe use the gothic trope deception and destruction William Godwin uses it as
well throughout his novel Caleb Williams. However, Godwin uses deception through political systems
and through the two main characters, Falkland and Caleb Williams. Falkland is an urban landowner
and hires Caleb Williams to transcribe, arrange certain papers and partly write his dictation letters of
business, as well as sketches of literary composition: he performed the functions of a librarian as well
as secretary (Godwin 1.1.pg.5). Falkland is believed to be a well off and exceedingly appreciated
landlord, who is passionately eager of keeping his appearance. For example on page 4 in volume one
chapter one Caleb describes Falkland as a man of stature and he was kind and attentive. He is known
to be an understanding businessperson but is vulnerable to uncharacteristic hysterics of convulsions
which no one knows about except his servant, Collins. On the other hand, three months after Caleb
started working for him he saw Falkland having one of these distempers: he heard the lid of a chest
hastily slam and lock and heard a voice that seemed supernaturally tremendous. The sound of it
thrilled Caleb s very vitals and saw Falkland rising up from the floor (Godwin 1.1 pg.7) because of
this Caleb was very curious as to why his boss had this random outburst. Caleb later finds out this
outburst is caused by his sensibility and how it is shrunk up and withered by events that are most
disgustful to his feelings...his mind was incapable to survive the wound that his pride had sustained
(Godwin 1.1. pg. 8). This makes Caleb even more interested in finding out about his boss because he
now believes Falkland is being misleading and is hiding something he did in the past. Caleb examines
his master s habits and history and finally comes to a conclusion that this apparently honorable
character is a murderer. As soon as there is intensity in the house, Caleb is on the verge of opening a
chest in his master s room, however, Falkland catches Caleb in the act. Once Falkland believes that
Caleb knows he actually confesses and threatens Caleb with horrible retribution if he makes an effort
to leave his duties. Falkland states: I

various strategies that were undertaken to successfully complete the Stocktrak simulation. Firstly, an
analysis of the US and Chinese markets will be given as they are crucial markets that play a big role in
the worldwide economy. Due to the fact that the US economy has been going through a recession, a

For instance, economic growth is mainly constrained by the policy and political environment, which
indicates that the economic growth momentum is not strongly autonomous. The current consumption
growth will mainly depend on policy guidance and encouragement in the national income distribution

endogenous mechanisms is hard to form. Strategy Figure A The first strategy attempted by the group
involved timing trades based on daily market performance and expectations. Based on our predictions,
shares were bought during the early hours of trading and by mid day, the group had a good idea what
would be kept until the next day of trading and what would be sold by close. This strategy made use of
daily market news and reports to help predict short term changes; little attention was paid to long term
potential as the group felt the timeframe the simulation take place in was too short. This strategy,
while mildly successful, was not earning large enough gains for the group s portfolio. Many of our
gains would be negated by the commission the simulator charged per trade. This strategy later evolved
to include larger equity purchases on Fridays before the market closed for the weekend. These

Stag Hunt Floor Mosaic Essay
Pebbled Perfection The Stag Hunt floor mosaic by the artist Gnosis, depicts two men and a dog about
to kill a stag. The mosaic is from Pella, Greece and dates to about 300 BCE. The piece currently
resides in the Archaeological Museum in Pella. The mosaic is made entirely from pebbles of varying
colors collected from the ground. The piece only has a few distinctive colors, the most prominent
including black, white, and brown. White pebbles are used almost entirely for the two men s bodies,
the dog, and part of the stag. Brown pebbles give character to the hair of the two men, body of the
stag, and smaller elements like the eyes and lips of the figures. Finally, black pebbles create most of
the background of the mosaic, marking a distinct contrast between the background and the white
figures. Shading also beautifully enhances the mosaic, perhaps because of the limited color range.
Especially noticeable are the cloaks of the two men. The use of light and shade seem to make the
cloaks writhe over the powerful bodies they adorn. Shading defines the muscles of the men,
accentuating their bodies and the power within them. Also creating definition is the use of various
lines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The figures occur equally in the composition with the stag as the center of focus, a man on either side
of the stage facing each other, and a dog in front and to the left side of the stag. The equal
displacement or unity of the figures makes nothing appear out of place, or jump out to the viewer. This
is also because the piece is arranged to give the viewer a straight on perspective. Overlapping is a
large component of the piece. For example, the stag is placed in front of both men and the dog in front
of the stag. This addition of layers creates a subtle depth. Interestingly, all the figures appear in
relative proportion to each other, even though the stag is clearly of the most

devices (including cell phones, PDAs, and BlackBerries), sensors, and servers (such as Web and mail

Queuing delay and packet loss. Many packets can arrive at a packet switch roughly at the same time.
If these packets need to be forwarded on the same outbound link, all but one will have to queue, that
is, wait to be transmitted. This waiting introduces a queuing delay. Furthermore, if the queue of
packets becomes very large, the packet switch s buffer may become exhausted, causing packets to be
dropped or lost. Queuing delay and packet loss can severely impact the performance of an application.
Protocol layers. A typical computer network makes use of many protocols easily hundreds. To deal
with this complexity, the protocols are organized into layers. These protocol layers are arranged in a
stack. For example, the Internet organizes its protocols into five layers namely, from top to bottom:
application layer, transport layer, network layer, link layer, and physical layer. The protocols of layer n
use the services provided by the protocols at the layer n 1 (the layer below). This abstract concept, 4

grasp at first, will become clearer as we delve into the different protocol layers. With the application
layer as the highest layer in the protocol stack, one can say that all other layers in the stack exist only
to provide services to the application. Indeed this is the case, as applications are the raison d être for
computer networks. Without networked applications,

A Safe Injection Site Is Essential For Esquimalt And Victoria
In 2015, Victoria, BC saw an increase in drug overdoses throughout the city including one death
occurring in Esquimalt (Times Colonist, 2015). Drug related overdose fatalities are preventable if the
population has access to services that would minimize the risk of an overdose. Through the
assessment of the community of Esquimalt, I am proposing that there is a need to establish a safe
injection site to prevent accidental overdoses, as well as provide social services for detoxification and
rehabilitation programs. It is necessary to note that Victoria and Esquimalt are not differentiated when
studies are done. Therefore, the extrapolation of accurate drug use statistics for Esquimalt is not
available. For the purpose of this paper, Victoria ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, drug related deaths have occurred in this community. Therefore, a safe injection site is a
priority for Esquimalt. Moreover, safe injection sites have been proven to save taxpayer s dollars.
According to Kerr and Woods (2009), an individual who uses intravenous drugs has an increased risk
of contracting HIV. The lifetime cost of HIV per person is approximately $150,000. However, with
proper intervention to decrease HIV rates, the healthcare system saves $130,000. This injection site I
am proposing would be modeled after the InSite program in Vancouver. Pinkerton (2011) reports that
this program has saved taxpayers $1.9 million a year in HIV and overdose related health costs.
Therefore, a program like this in the community would be beneficial because it will ensure the
marginalized members of the community are receiving care, but also decrease spending on future
health care costs related to disease and overdose.
Drug Addiction in Esquimalt While doing research on this community, it became apparent that the
public has access to many different social services that have helped the residents achieve wellness
(Abra et al., 2016), including Edgewood Health Network, a rehabilitation centre for addictions and
mental health. However, there is no support for people who are currently active drug users or have
relapsed (Edgewood Health Network, n.d). Studies have shown that relapsed users have an increased

Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot and The Theater of...
With the appearance of Waiting for Godot at the Théâtre de Babylone in Paris in 1953, the literary
world was shaken by the arrival of a drama so different yet so thrilling that it gave rise to the Theater
of the Absurd . His contribution to this particular type of theater movement allows us to refer to him as
the father of the genre. While other dramatists, such as Tom Stoppard, have also contributed to this
genre, Beckett remains its single, most lofty figure. It is this type of theater that deals with the absurd
aspects of life, to stress upon its native meaninglessness. It is the time and identity of characters that
are usually vague or ambiguous in such plays from the theater of absurd. The plays are dreamy and

This shows us as to how there is a series of events taking place and both, Estragon and Vladimir go
through an endless string of days waiting for someone who they have no idea about Godot. Even
though there was a messenger boy through whom Godot apparently sent across messages to Estragon
and Vladimir, they never seemed to receive it. In the first act, the messenger boy arrives to tell the two
stranded men that Godot will not arrive that night but will surely be before them the next night.
The play merely focuses on time and how Vladimir and Estragon wait for no apparent reason even
though they know Godot isn t going to come. These meaningless arguments and waiting is all they are
ever portrayed doing, repetitively contemplating leaving the place or leaving life for that matter
hanging themselves on the tree and committing suicide. This makes it seem like as though the
characters are stuck, and have no way out of the situation. Thoughts of leaving the place always get
ignored as they once again go back to the beginning hoping that Godot will arrive. This is because
they are afraid that something might go wrong if they stop this waiting which is indeed a significant,
day to day component of human existence.
As the first act comes to an end, the characters of Pozzo and his beloved dog Lucky are introduced
and join Estragon and Vladimir. These two characters intrude the format of how Vladimir and
Estragon get on

Survey Questions On Starbucks Corporation
Name: Shanice Forbes and Sharifa Small
Fair Trade: Starbucks Corporation
Methods
Survey Questions
The survey questions mostly consisted of multiple choice questions, two open ended questions,
allowing written responses, and one qualitative response question. These questions were chosen to
establish consumers differences and comparative perspective of Starbuck s competitors, their daily
usage of the social media platforms, the coffee shops visited frequently, and their opinions on
consumers who frequent Starbucks. The survey contains one matrix/rating scale question ( Appendix
I, Question 5) based on how important qualities are when choosing a coffee shop. Lastly, there were
two demographic questions. The demographic questions are for a general understanding on consumers
behavior based on age group and gender. For an overview of the survey, see appendix I.
Survey Development The purpose of the survey entitled Starbucks Corporation Survey was to
determine if the recent Starbucks Public Relations campaigns have been effective at reaching
consumers (See appendix I, Question 6 for complete list of campaigns options), to learn more about
consumers buying behaviors towards Starbucks compared to it competitors, and the characteristics of
consumers loyalty. The survey was created through Survey Monkey by the researchers who conducted
the study. Survey Monkey provided their answer style as a guideline for the research. An example of

The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Essay
The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Manga is a Japanese word that is generally used to
refer to comics or cartoons while Anime is a term used to refer to animation, also originating from
Japan. The origin of manga can be traced to the 18th century. The word was used for the first time in
1798 in Japan to describe Shiji no yukikai, a picture book. The term resurfaced again in 1814 when it
was used as the title of books written by Akinwai Minwa; Hokusai Manga and Manga Hyakujo. These
books contained drawings that had been made by Hokusai, a famous Japanese woodlock print artist.
The above facts dispel and clarify the popularised myth that manga was invented by Hokusai
(McCloud 79). Schodta (152) explains that one millennium prior ... Show more content on

However, some people deny that kibyoshi is a direct ancestor of modern Japanese manga. However, it
became extinct by mid 19th century.
The development of modern Japanese manga became more pronounced around the mid 20th century,
and many art critics state that this is the actual period of the development of modern Japanese manga.
Wood (1) explains that in the period 1945 1952, the US occupied Japan. During this time, there was an
explosion of artistic creativity and the US troops introduced to Japan American cartoons and comics
like Mickey Mouse, Bambi and Betty Boop. These inspired the Japanese artists to come up with their
own style of comics.
Osamu Tezuka, a Japanese cartoonist invented the large distinctive eyes that are prominent in both
anime and manga. For this reason, Tezuka is also referred to as the Godfather of anime and the God of
manga. Tezuka s popular works called Mighty Atom which was produced as a series called Astro Boy
became the first Japanese TV series to embody the aesthetic characteristic that came to be known as
anime worldwide. The TV series Astro Boy was broadcast in Japan for the first time in 1963(Schodtb
109).
According to Schodtb (111), Tezuka s manga was quite different from other manga producers that
came before him. For example, most prior manga were produced in the style of a stage play and from
a two dimensional perspective. In addition, interactions of

Abstract A review of the main technologies currently available to produce wines with lower alcohol
(ethanol) levels was undertaken. These comprise technologies to reduce the initial sugar levels in the
grape juice; yeasts to produce less alcohol by diverting sugar metabolism to glycerol production; and
post fermentation technologies to remove some all of the alcohol from the wine. Some of the legal
issues around alcohol taxation and wine labelling are outlined, particularly those affecting export. The
major technologies are discussed, along with their limitations, particularly with regard to the effects
on sensory attributes (aroma and flavour). The potential for yeast strains with lower conversion
efficiencies is outlined, both for selected strains, for non Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, and for
genetic modification. A summary of the application of reduced alcohol technologies

Zora Neal Hurston s Sweat
In Zora Neal Hurston s short story Sweat, Delia Jones is a dedicated wash woman who is cemented
into an unfortunate relationship with her husband, Skyes. Skyes not only treats Delia inhumanely, but
he also commits adultery with his mistress, Bertha. Delia will not divorce Skyes because of her
religious beliefs. Delia is deathly afraid of snakes, and Skyes uses this to his advantage when he tries
to kill Delia, so he can marry his mistress; ironically, the snake kills Skyes. Delia transforms into a
new person throughout the story by fighting for her life in a sophisticated manner. In Sweat , Zora
Neal Hurston uses the symbolism of the clothes, iron skillet, snake, and bed to signify Delia Jones s
perpetual suffering in her relationship with her husband. Delia rides into town on her horse every
Saturday to retrieve soiled clothes and return clean clothes to her white patrons. Delia always sorted
the clothes into precise piles. Looking to start a fight, Skyes shambles the clothes into one pile once
again. The symbolism of the clothes represents Delia s purity. Hurston writes, He [Skyes] stepped

Plea Bargain Advantages
When most people think of criminal sentencing they think of a grand wooden courtroom with a full
jury and a proud judge in black presiding over it all, but that is far from the usual for those that are
accused of federal crimes. The reality of what happens after you are accused of a crime is much
different, as much of the bulk of those accused of a crime end up plea bargaining for a variety of
reasons, and very few people actually end up going to trial. An in depth look is necessary to really
understand the complicated truth of the relationship the plea bargain has with our justice system and
our citizens. To understand the plea bargain it takes looking into what originally it was made for, what
it represents now, and the effect it has on our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2013, while 8 percent of all federal crime charges were dismissed... more than 97 percent of the
remainder were resolved through plea bargains, and fewer than 3 percent went to trial. 3 It was the
goal at our country s founding that almost all citizens accused of a crime have a fair and impartial jury
trial to decide the innocence or guilt of the accused, and we know where and why that changed and the
effect it has on the system and government but what about the citizens and society? What about the
people the very system is meant to protect and serve? Despite the advantages plea bargaining gives to
the defendant it s very essence is assuming that the defendant is guilty, so what if they re not? It s not
all that uncommon to get the wrong guy when searching for a suspect especially when racial and class
profiling comes into the mix. So understanding the 8% being thrown out for this reason there s still a
lot of room for innocents still within the system, and going by the statistics it seems very likely that
there are innocents being forced, coerced, or outright bullied into plea bargaining

In an article in the January issue of Arts and Antiques, Schwartz describes how her conclusions tie together a number of seemingly unrelated anomalies in the painting, its shadowy quality, the unusual dress, the lack of jewelry, the awkward pose and the split pair of unrelated landscapes on either side of the figure. She points out that Leonardo s delight in riddles caused him to plant clues in all his paintings and that the Mona Lisa was no exception. When these clues are taken together with da Vinci s known homosexuality and life style, a picture emerges of the great painter creating a disguised self portrait in women s clothes. As Schwartz puts it, That famous smile, so tantalizing for so many centuries is the mirrored smile of da Vinci himself. Another says he haven t seen the big deal of the painting. In Tim Burton s Alice in Wonderland, how does he use film technique to emphasise Alice s bland, ridged and depleted real world? In Alice in Wonderland, Tim Burton uses many film techniques to emphasise to viewers the extent to which Alice s world is bland, ridged and depleted. A few of these many techniques are, camera filters, soundscape, costume, setting, and ensemble. In the opening scenes of the film, there was clear usage of filters to convey to viewers the dreary world in which Alice lived in. He uses a pale, cold and white filter. How does Burton use film technique to present the Wonderland as a magical, mystical and nonsense universe? [i.e. computer generated characters, film exposure, colour, music, etc.] Wonderland is depicted as being a land of magic, mystery and nonsensical occurrences. The director Tim Burton has been able to do this by the use of numerous filmic techniques. One of the techniques was the soundscape, in the film the sound scape created the desired aura, and ambiance to signify the wackiness of Wonderland . The sound which accompanied anything related to wonderland can be described as airy, harmonious and awestruck, however occasionally it may be interrupted by a natural noise, like a pig running (as seen in the 1st scene of wonderland). It has slow, yet easy transitions between the various notes, making it somewhat fluid. A great example of this type of soundscape is around 11.42; here the music is elevated and accompanied with a vocal choir as the rabbit is from Wonderland. This orchestral arrangement, especially the choir adds an element of mystery and suspense. It also creates a euphoric atmosphere. Another evidence to show the close correlation between the soundscape and Wonderland is that, every time wonderland is the subject of discussion, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Gothic Trope Deception In Caleb Williams Not only does Ann Radcliffe use the gothic trope deception and destruction William Godwin uses it as well throughout his novel Caleb Williams. However, Godwin uses deception through political systems and through the two main characters, Falkland and Caleb Williams. Falkland is an urban landowner and hires Caleb Williams to transcribe, arrange certain papers and partly write his dictation letters of business, as well as sketches of literary composition: he performed the functions of a librarian as well as secretary (Godwin 1.1.pg.5). Falkland is believed to be a well off and exceedingly appreciated landlord, who is passionately eager of keeping his appearance. For example on page 4 in volume one chapter one Caleb describes Falkland as a man of stature and he was kind and attentive. He is known to be an understanding businessperson but is vulnerable to uncharacteristic hysterics of convulsions which no one knows about except his servant, Collins. On the other hand, three months after Caleb started working for him he saw Falkland having one of these distempers: he heard the lid of a chest hastily slam and lock and heard a voice that seemed supernaturally tremendous. The sound of it thrilled Caleb s very vitals and saw Falkland rising up from the floor (Godwin 1.1 pg.7) because of this Caleb was very curious as to why his boss had this random outburst. Caleb later finds out this outburst is caused by his sensibility and how it is shrunk up and withered by events that are most disgustful to his feelings...his mind was incapable to survive the wound that his pride had sustained (Godwin 1.1. pg. 8). This makes Caleb even more interested in finding out about his boss because he now believes Falkland is being misleading and is hiding something he did in the past. Caleb examines his master s habits and history and finally comes to a conclusion that this apparently honorable character is a murderer. As soon as there is intensity in the house, Caleb is on the verge of opening a chest in his master s room, however, Falkland catches Caleb in the act. Once Falkland believes that Caleb knows he actually confesses and threatens Caleb with horrible retribution if he makes an effort to leave his duties. Falkland states: I ... The mosaic is from Pella, Greece and dates to about 300 BCE. The piece currently resides in the Archaeological Museum in Pella. The mosaic is made entirely from pebbles of varying colors collected from the ground. The piece only has a few distinctive colors, the most prominent including black, white, and brown. White pebbles are used almost entirely for the two men s bodies, the dog, and part of the stag. Brown pebbles give character to the hair of the two men, body of the stag, and smaller elements like the eyes and lips of the figures. Finally, black pebbles create most of the background of the mosaic, marking a distinct contrast between the background and the white figures. Shading also beautifully enhances the mosaic, perhaps because of the limited color range. Especially noticeable are the cloaks of the two men. The use of light and shade seem to make the cloaks writhe over the powerful bodies they adorn. Shading defines the muscles of the men, accentuating their bodies and the power within them. Also creating definition is the use of various lines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Queuing delay and packet loss can severely impact the performance of an application. Protocol layers. A typical computer network makes use of many protocols easily hundreds. While other dramatists, such as Tom Stoppard, have also contributed to this genre, Beckett remains its single, most lofty figure. It is this type of theater that deals with the absurd aspects of life, to stress upon its native meaninglessness. It is the time and identity of characters that are usually vague or ambiguous in such plays from the theater of absurd. The plays are dreamy and impossible to ... This shows us as to how there is a series of events taking place and both, Estragon and Vladimir go through an endless string of days waiting for someone who they have no idea about Godot. Even though there was a messenger boy through whom Godot apparently sent across messages to Estragon and Vladimir, they never seemed to receive it. In the first act, the messenger boy arrives to tell the two stranded men that Godot will not arrive that night but will surely be before them the next night. The play merely focuses on time and how Vladimir and Estragon wait for no apparent reason even though they know Godot isn t going to come. These meaningless arguments and waiting is all they are ever portrayed doing, repetitively contemplating leaving the place or leaving life for that matter hanging themselves on the tree and committing suicide. This makes it seem like as though the characters are stuck, and have no way out of the situation. Thoughts of leaving the place always get ignored as they once again go back to the beginning hoping that Godot will arrive. This is because they are afraid that something might go wrong if they stop this waiting which is indeed a significant, day to day component of human existence. As the first act comes to an end, the characters of Pozzo and his beloved dog Lucky are introduced and join Estragon and Vladimir. • 30. The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Essay The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Manga is a Japanese word that is generally used to refer to comics or cartoons while Anime is a term used to refer to animation, also originating from Japan. The origin of manga can be traced to the 18th century. The word was used for the first time in 1798 in Japan to describe Shiji no yukikai, a picture book. The term resurfaced again in 1814 when it was used as the title of books written by Akinwai Minwa; Hokusai Manga and Manga Hyakujo. These books contained drawings that had been made by Hokusai, a famous Japanese woodlock print artist. The above facts dispel and clarify the popularised myth that manga was invented by Hokusai (McCloud 79). Schodta (152) explains that one millennium prior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some people deny that kibyoshi is a direct ancestor of modern Japanese manga. However, it became extinct by mid 19th century. The development of modern Japanese manga became more pronounced around the mid 20th century, and many art critics state that this is the actual period of the development of modern Japanese manga. Wood (1) explains that in the period 1945 1952, the US occupied Japan. During this time, there was an explosion of artistic creativity and the US troops introduced to Japan American cartoons and comics like Mickey Mouse, Bambi and Betty Boop. These inspired the Japanese artists to come up with their own style of comics. Osamu Tezuka, a Japanese cartoonist invented the large distinctive eyes that are prominent in both anime and manga. For this reason, Tezuka is also referred to as the Godfather of anime and the God of manga. Tezuka s popular works called Mighty Atom which was produced as a series called Astro Boy became the first Japanese TV series to embody the aesthetic characteristic that came to be known as anime worldwide. The TV series Astro Boy was broadcast in Japan for the first time in 1963(Schodtb 109). According to Schodtb (111), Tezuka s manga was quite different from other manga producers that came before him. These comprise technologies to reduce the initial sugar levels in the grape juice; yeasts to produce less alcohol by diverting sugar metabolism to glycerol production; and post fermentation technologies to remove some all of the alcohol from the wine. Some of the legal issues around alcohol taxation and wine labelling are outlined, particularly those affecting export. The major technologies are discussed, along with their limitations, particularly with regard to the effects on sensory attributes (aroma and flavour). The potential for yeast strains with lower conversion efficiencies is outlined, both for selected strains, for non Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeasts, and for genetic modification. Skyes not only treats Delia inhumanely, but he also commits adultery with his mistress, Bertha. Delia will not divorce Skyes because of her religious beliefs. Delia is deathly afraid of snakes, and Skyes uses this to his advantage when he tries to kill Delia, so he can marry his mistress; ironically, the snake kills Skyes. Delia transforms into a new person throughout the story by fighting for her life in a sophisticated manner. In Sweat , Zora Neal Hurston uses the symbolism of the clothes, iron skillet, snake, and bed to signify Delia Jones s perpetual suffering in her relationship with her husband. Delia rides into town on her horse every Saturday to retrieve soiled clothes and return clean clothes to her white patrons. Delia always sorted the clothes into precise piles. Looking to start a fight, Skyes shambles the clothes into one pile once again. The symbolism of the clothes represents Delia s purity. In 2013, while 8 percent of all federal crime charges were dismissed... more than 97 percent of the remainder were resolved through plea bargains, and fewer than 3 percent went to trial. 3 It was the goal at our country s founding that almost all citizens accused of a crime have a fair and impartial jury trial to decide the innocence or guilt of the accused, and we know where and why that changed and the effect it has on the system and government but what about the citizens and society? What about the people the very system is meant to protect and serve?
