Pope Vs. Illinois Case Study
For this weeks discussion post I chose the Supreme Court case of Pope v. Illinois (1987). This case has
several values that make it significant in the field of obscenity and the First Amendment. Referring
back to Miller v. California and how it set the standard for identifying obscene material not protected
by the First Amendment, some portions are a bit more obscure than others. Take the third or value
prong of the three part test to determine whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary,
artistic, political, or scientific value. Prior to this case it was unclear how to exactly assess whether a
work lacked serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value, but when two attendants at adult
bookstores were charged with obscenity under Illinois law by selling certain magazines to undercover
police, they moved to dismiss on grounds that the then current version of the Illinois obscenity statute
violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The judge in both trials instructed the jury that in ...

This again reverts back to the First and Fourteenth Amendments, and a violation of non bias objective
judgement. This most certainly is a content based restriction, as the stat of Illinois was claiming that
the clerk violated a state criminal statute prohibiting the sale of obscene magazines. This case would
be considered a valid restriction of speech under Illinois state law because they claim it unnecessary
and of no interest for the general public, or community standard, to perches the magazines. The irony
in it all is that the Supreme Court overturned the initial ruling that the community standard was
inappropriate for determining whether a work had value . Another twist is that this is considered
symbolic speech as the clerks are expressing their political opinions of freedom of speech by selling
what would be considered obscene

The American Of The White Americans Essay
The strong will of the white Americans lead to many different races of people changing their ideas
because of what was being exerted on them. In dealing with the other races Americans had many
opposed views and different ideas for their cultures and also their sufficiency of self government.
Americans in the nineteenth century used domestic policy to culturally deprive the newly freed slaves
and the American Indians, then in the early twentieth century Americans used newly gained power and
foreign policy to help and rule over the Philippines and the people who inhabited there. America is no
stranger to imposing their own ideas onto other people and even other places. Slaves once freed really
were not free at all. Many things still inhibited them into starting their own independent lives. White
Americans were a big one, the placement of black codes, negative perceptions of the Freedman s
Bureau and just the view of African Americans in general all prohibited black slaves to live their lives
the way they wanted to. Rather they were required to live how the white men wanted them to live. The
Americans had the attitude of being above and better than the African Americans, their negativity and
deprivation of blacks led to America being unable to progress for a long while. Document 12.9 in
Archive 12 is a perfect example of the way the blacks were viewed at this time. On the ground is a
black man who is holding a flag which symbolizes that he is patriotic and proud to be an

The Emergence Of Urban America
Vishnu Rammohan Chapter 21 Outline
The Emergence of Urban America
The Emergence of Urban America: The United States experienced urban transformation o Age of great
cities, population boom more than half lived in urban areas by 1920. Distinctive urban culture created
by rise of big cities. Heterogeneous population in cities. The prospect of Jobs, wealth, excitement had
encouraged many to move into the big cities. New social problems had risen. Poverty, political
corruption, quality of life issues. Also the increasing prevalence of segregation
America s Move to Town: Good jobs and social excitement lured workers .
Contrast between rural and urban life became sharper.

Growing middle class retreated to suburbs. Urban growth usually became a sprawl . Use of railways,
cable cars, trolleys helped transform social character. Before, people of all classes lived and worked
together in the central city. Emergence of suburbs segregated people according to economic standing.
Poorer districts had more crime.
The Allure and Problems of the Cities: Rural youth were attracted by wonder of city life. Thousands
left for city during rural depressions. Exodus from countryside was especially evident in the East
Those who moved to the city often traded one set of problems for another. No choice but to live in
crowded apartments. Designers forced to build upward due to cramping o In New York City, result
was dumbbell tenement houses Tightly packed, dumbbell appearance from overhead, tiny air shafts,
poor heating and ventilation, fire hazard Early tenements were poorly heated, communal toilets
outside, no privacy, no free space, infectious diseases, odor o Mortality rate among urban poor was
higher than general population.
City Politics: Sheer size of cities helped create new form of politics.
A need grew for central organization to coordinate citywide services. Urban political machines
developed local committeemen, district captains, political boss. Bosses granted patronage and services
distributed food, coal, money, sponsored English classes, helped newcomers adjust

Additional VLANs configured on these access points will require encryption (keys delivered through
the authentication process) and will not be advertised via beacon broadcasts. In this model, when users
activate their wireless network interface, the general use VLAN will be automatically listed as an
available connection. Connections to other available networks (such as department VLANs) will have
to be explicitly requested by the user in order to gain access. It should be noted that in order to provide
a cost effective centrally managed service it is likely that wireless access points from a single vendor
will be required. 3.3 Coverage Area The buildings highlighted in red represent where some level of
wireless coverage will be available at the end of the project. Not all buildings will have the same level
of coverage. Outdoor areas and main thoroughfares will be deployed depending on wireless access
available in surrounding buildings Figure 3.1: UiTM Kelantan Campus Map [pic] 3.4 Buildings and
Classrooms The Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point will be used for this project. These access
points will be placed on the ceilings of hallways, classrooms, and study lounges in order, to maximize
connection rates. There are ten buildings on campus will be able to be part of CAWN project. Our

Uncertainty with defining the clinical attributes of Apraxia of Speech has been debated in the literature
dating back to 1960 s when Darley (1975) first introduced the term Apraxia of Speech (AOS).
However, the idea of a motor speech disorder existing with preserved language skills and unimpaired
muscular function was originally introduced by Paul Broca in the 1800s (Broca, 1861). McNeil et.al,
(2004) defines AOS as a neurogenic communication disorder affecting the planning and programming
of speech movements in the absence of weakness, slowness, and incoordination of the speech
musculature. Apraxic speakers can properly select the correct phonemes, but are unable to manipulate
and sequence the structures necessary for speech because the ... Show more content on

Renaissance Dance Pros And Cons
Dance in the Renaissance Era is an era that is very intriguing but also very amazing because we can
see where dance really started and how it has evolved over time since the Renaissance Era. Although
the Renaissance is a very interesting era to examine it is also made clear what a hard era this was for
dance but also a great era for dance. I feel that within the Renaissance dance era there are a lot of pros
and cons as dance wasn t necessarily appreciated in this time and was seen as something that was
more dark and associated with death. As time went on this did change and dance truly became
something within this era for several different reasons. For me, I think this era is so great because of
all the different costumes, technique and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Baroque time there were quite a few dancing masters but the dancing master that stood out to
me for the time I am focusing on was John Playford (1623 1686). He published The English Dancing
Master in 1651 which provided information on 105 English country dances. (Sue, Norma. Baroque
Dancing Master and Dances. ) Through this period there were many great dancing masters and
manuals. Although this was very important in this time the technique and movement of this era is
where my real focus lies. Within this era there were 5 selected dance steps that were always used and
then put together into a sequence. The 5 steps are; demi coupe, coupe, pas de bourree, temps de
courante and the minuet step. All of these steps were then put together and you had do them and in a
faster manor which was hard because you aren t familiar with the steps but it is a step you know but it
seems harder when put into a different sequence to different music. The steps in the Baroque time
were very interesting but the movement qualities are something that would be very hard to adjust to as
this is something that has evolved and changed over time as dance has also got more difficult over
time. The movement qualities of include low legs, vertical movements, weight primarily on the ball of
one foot, relaxed toes, 90 degree turnout and fluttering embroideries of arms and legs. (Sue, Norma.
Baroque Dancing Master and Dances. ) From this we can see how the movement qualities are very
different from what we do now as the toes would very be relaxed because we now practice a full
pointe at all times and we also now practice 180 degree turnout and you don t even really see 90
degree turnout anymore as everyone strives to have that perfect turnout. Although these movement
qualities have changed it is quite

The Uncanny Valley And Visual Expertise
Introduction The uncanny valley is a phenomenon that occurs when we see human like beings and we
notice that they have or are missing some human features. The realization that they are missing human
features causes negative feelings of unease. In this paper I will first describe the uncanny valley.
MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) provide an interesting explanation as to why it can occur and how
the effect can be influenced. MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) suggests that eeriness of the uncanny
valley is not because of how eerie they look. Rather, it depends on how human like they are. Then, I
will describe visual expertise. Visual expertise in this sense refers to our ability to identify faces and
other objects that we have experience in perceiving. That experience is used to make top down
assumptions about what faces and their features should look like. Harel (2016) looks at visual
expertise, where it works, and how it works. Lastly, I will describe the relationship between the
uncanny valley and visual expertise. Kätsyri, Förger, Mäkäräinen, Takala (2015) provide an argument
in their surveying that can explain the relationship. They suggest that a possible explanation is that the
visual expertise that we have with facial recognition perceives featural differences in an artificial
human like face. The difference elicit that eerie response because we see something that does look
human like, but we identify as not being human.

Lightbulb Lab
Incandescent light bulbs use a wire filament heated to a high temperature in order to give off light.
The filament has an electrical current sent through it, and is protected from oxidation by a glass bulb
or a quartz bulb. On average, the incandescent bulb uses 60 watts and costs 11 cents per kilowatt hour.
On average, one bulb costs $1. 90% of what an incandescent light bulb produces is heat, which wastes
a lot of electricity. Also, the lights produce sustainable levels of CO2. They have an average lifespan
of 1,200 hours.
CFL lightbulbs function by putting electricity through a tube containing argon, which is twice more
common than water vapor in the atmosphere, and mercury vapor. CFL lightbulbs use an average of 14
watts, and cost an average

Descriptive Essay On An Island
UNKNOWN BATTLEGROUNDS
I wake up on an island with many others. I count up to 99 other than me. Above me there is a screen
that is counting down from one minute, some of the others around me are screaming and going insane
but at least half are calm waiting to see what happens when the timer runs out. I walk over to a man in
a light blue tuxedo and ask him do you know where we are? the man answers An island in Russia I say
thanks and walk back to the timer it reads 5 seconds I count down the time then my vision goes blank.
When I open my eyes I m on a plane with the other players and a map of what I guess is the island the
man in blue told me about. I have a parachute on my back I m guessing with black masks will force us
off the plane we wait about 20 minutes and the women next to me asks do you want to team up I say
what for, what is gonna happen? she responds with you don t know?, everyone on this plane will have
to fight to the death to survive the last people standing whether it be one person or a team they get to
survive and go to the next game. But I don t want to be in a team with someone who s a beginner and
hasn t even play one game. The cargo planes haul started to open and the pressure filled the plane then
men with black masks started to throw people off the plane they went from back to front through the
rows so I ll be third to last to get thrown off I have about five minutes to get ready to get thrown off.

Disconnect Of Communication By Employers
Disconnect of Communication by Employers: Evaluating the Aftermath of Technical Failures
Businesses have become extremely reliant on technology over the past few decades. Processes from
accounting to marketing to board meetings are done using special applications and software developed
to improve productivity as well as to shrink the distance between office locations. With the invention
of computers for ease of day to day functions, to creating a global network that connects people
around the world in seconds, the success or demise of a corporation can be determined by its digital
components. An efficient, high tech structure maintained by well educated and skilled associates gives
an organization the ability to perform more effectively, nationally and internationally. When system
outages occur, tasks executed on the network cannot be completed, halting productivity and
potentially costing the company financial loss. The speed of recovery in these instances is crucial, but
so is the implementation itself. Inadequate handling of procedures and mediocre responses from
leaders in a crisis situation involving network/technical failures can wreak havoc on an organization,
negatively impacting public image, corporate profits and trust of associates.
From the time an outage begins, the business is at risk of adverse side effects beyond normal
production. One of the most important initiatives of a company is to create a strong brand that
produces a profit. Implementation

Los Rancho Los Cerritos House
On Friday I had the honor to visit the historical Rancho Los Cerritos House; also known as Rancho
Los Cerritos or Casa de los Cerritos, in Long Beach, California, it was the largest and most impressive
adobe residence raised in southern California during the Mexican period. The structure of the house

Los Cerritos means the little hills in English. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. I

family sold the house to the City of Long Beach in 1955. The City transformed the house into an
exhibition hall devoted to teaching the general population about California s rancho period, so that the
public can get the chance of exploring this phenomenal and historical site.
After watching the 15 minute video we moved outside of the building and we signed up to visit the

The Green Children Of Woolpit
The Green Children of Woolpit is a twelfth century mystery that has been around for centuries. Many
people have speculated and formed theories on where these children had come from. No theory has
been proven true, but the theories range from malnutrition to something such as extraterrestrial
visitors. This strange phenomenon can be explained. These children that visited England, are aliens
from a different world. The evidence that the children give the people from England describes a land
that is not on planet Earth. The Green Children of Woolpit is a twelfth century mystery that started in
Suffolk, England. During this time, this area was the most agriculturally productive in all of rural
England. The village of Suffolk had belonged to the powerful Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds. In Suffolk,
two green skinned children were found at the mouth of an old wolf pit where the final wolf had been
rumored to perish. The two children were found by reapers working at a nearby farm. They spoke in
an unfamiliar language and wore strange clothing that was unknown to the people of England. The
children were soon accepted into the household Sir Richard de Caine at Wilks. After a while both
children became ill and things looked bleak for the both of the strange children. The boy had
eventually passed, while the girl soon miraculously recovered. The girl s skin even turned back to a
normal color. After the boy s passing, the girl took lessons and learned to speak English. She learned

Strong Centralized Government Essay
By the end of the early Middle Ages, the territories of both England and France had divided into
several small kingdoms, each governed by a separate leader. These kingdoms were in states of chaos
because they lacked a strong centralized government. By the 12th century, trade began to grow, which
led to the creation of towns. The towns citizens initially paid taxes to the feudal nobles, but with the
development of a strong middle class, taxes were paid to the king alone. Without tax income, the
nobles power weakened and the power of the king increased. Thus, a strong centralized government
began to form. As the French and English kings strengthened their power, established strong
centralized governments, and diminished the power of the nobles, ... Show more content on

The Magna Carta, a charter signed by King John in 1215, ensured that the people of England would
receive basic political rights such as Habeas Corpus, the right to a court trial, and no taxation without
representation. It also restrained the king s power by proclaiming that he was not above the law.
Although the Magna Carta did not strengthen the king s power, or relinquish that of the nobles , it was
an essential step in laying the foundation for democracy, as it gave the commoners a voice and
prevented the monarchs from ruling with absolute power. Soon after, Louis IX, king of France, created
the appeals court. The appeals court was where those who contradicted a court ruling could go, and it
had the power to [annul, quash] the local courts. This court was important, as it prevented the majority
of unjust and prejudiced punishments that could be ruled against someone. Both the Magna Carta and
the appeals court were fundamental in laying the foundation for democracy, because they granted the
commoners basic political rights and somewhat sheltered them from the law, Although, the Magna
Carta was more so, as it restrained the king s

Differences Between Michael And Kashua
Thus it is clear that both Michael and Kashua explore complex human emotions that arise between
individuals despite their surrounding environment. From the Arab perspective and from the Jewish
perspective, these forbidden relationship bring together two, fully human people. Therefore, the idea
that in Israeli literature Arab characters are [...] synthetic stereotypes, not individual, full people, based
on real observation could not be more false when it applies to Michael. Indeed, as Michael and
Kashua depict, a loving, committed relationship cannot form unless both parties involved experience
the same deep, human emotions that constitute love. As the reader sees in a story like Nomad and

As an Arab Jew, Michael in particular spent a considerable part of his life writing in Arabic, before
switching to Hebrew as Ami Elad Bouskila highlights in Arabic and/or Hebrew: The Languages of
Arab Writers in Israel. Elad Bouskila explains that in other parts of the Arab world, individuals saw no
contradiction between being Jewish and being members of the Arab culture. This changed in Israel,
where the differences between Arabs and Jews are more deeply ingrained in society. It is interesting to
see how this language barrier that many Arab and Jewish writers have had to confront appears in their
writing as well. For example, in both Dancing Arabs and A Trumpet in the Wadi, the characters at
times struggle to fully understand each other due to linguistic miscommunications. This would
inevitably affect two individuals capacities to love one another, thus Kashua and Michael add a new
layer to an already complex set of emotions through their use of Arabic and Hebrew. In A Trumpet in
the Wadi, Alex says to the grandfather, Please [...] I don t understand Arabic, to which the grandfather
replies, And I don t understand you. Moreover, in Dancing Arabs, Eyad talks about how difficult it
was for him to learn to pronounce the letter p. Thus, Elad Bouskila, Michael, and Kashua all

Abstract This Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANETs) consists of of a set of nodes linked by wi fi
hyperlinks. Trust based redirecting has much attention as an efficient way to enhance protection of
Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The Network is ad hoc because it does not depend on pre
existing facilities, such as wi fi routers in wired networks. Routing in MANETs is a challenging
process due to powerful topology and mistake vulnerable shared atmosphere. Data is sent between
nodes in a MANET by browsing through advanced nodes, which must make choices about where and

Essay On Dragon s Throttle-Personal Narrative
Won Won is such a babe. I mean, did you see him eating breakfast this morning? Who knew cereal
could look that good? Aha. I could see that Parvati was getting tired of listening to my talk about Ron,
her chocolate brown eyes rolling for the fifth time that morning. Normally I would berate her for
doing so, but I knew the reason she didn t want to listen to tales of mine and Ron s relationship. I
mean, I wasn t completely clueless the girl was clearly jealous. I couldn t very well yell at her for it;
what kind of friend would I be if I did? It was no secret that she fancied Ron; all of the girls did,
really. Even Miss Know it all Granger did, running off and crying every time she saw us snogging.
Most nights since Ron had declared his love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What a prat he was, pulling faces whilst the rest of us were trying to learn. The boy ought to learn how
to show a teacher proper respect, especially my Head of House. I nodded as he mumbled an apology
of sorts, shifting my attention to the front once more so I could hear the rest of McGonagall s
instructions. A few rows ahead, Little Miss Teacher s Pet was doing the same. Well, then, I ll ask you
to break up into pairs and go through the warm up exercises we ve been doing recently; only one of
you had managed to correctly change your eyebrows, and I m hoping to see more this lesson,
McGonagall continued. I scowled as she smiled at Hermione. Yep, definitely a teacher s pet. Then,
and only then, you may begin the task. Off you go. Jumping out of my seat, I ran over to where Ron
and Harry sat before anyone else particularly a know it all brunette could get to him. I knew that
Parvati wouldn t mind; she could easily partner up with Fay or one of the Puffs. Some of them, at
least, weren t so bad. Won Won! Let s partner. Good luck, mate, Harry said, patting Ron s shoulder
and going up the front to partner with

Resource Based Sources of Competitive Advantage
| Critically discuss the importance of resource based sources of competitive advantage in one of the
industries studied on this module. You should discuss a range of companies. Competitive advantage is
when a firm sustains profits that exceed the average for its industry. The goal of much of business
strategy is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Porter identified two basic types of
competitive advantage; cost and differentiation. These two advantages are known as positional
advantages as they describe the firm s position in the industry as a leader in either cost or
differentiation. However, in this assignment I will discuss and analyse the importance of the resource
based view, (which is also known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This core competence is of vital importance as the inability to innovate in today s ever changing
environment may lead to entropy and ultimately cessation of trade. Being truly competitive. It is
crucial that a resource ultimately delivers a true competitive advantage. This core competence
highlights the fact that it is not enough for an organisation just to realise the resource as being a
strength, but that it must also be able to prove that it is of both better quality and at a lower cost than
the competition. This in basic terms means that it is not good enough for instance to produce a low
cost, high quality product, but that it must have not only lower costs than the competitors, it must also
produce items of a higher quality or standard that that of its competitors. An example of this is to
consider that if Rolls Royce s Far East division does not produce higher quality at a lower cost than
both General Electric and Pratt amp; Whitney, it could not gain competitive advantage as this core
competence would not be relevant in this situation. Substitutability. A resource is more likely to be
able to gain competitive advantage if it cannot be substituted. Although the resource based view is in
opposition to Porter s views on strategy, his five forces model identified the threat of substitutes as an
environmental force that can influence an organisation in gaining

Economic Impact On The Real Estate Market Essay
Economic Environment Impact
Interest rates have a major economic impact on the real estate market. Interest rates directly affect
property sales. Residential property realizes the greatest affect as interest rates have a considerable
influence on a homebuyer s capability to purchase a new property. The customer is affected when
there are significant increases or decreases in interest rates. Declining interest rates lower the costs of
obtaining a mortgage; this in turn creates higher demand for homes, and pushes home prices up.
Conversely, high interest rates increase the costs to obtain a mortgage; these increases lower the
demand for homes, which creates a decline in home prices. (Stammers, 2016)
The overall health of the economy has a significant impact on the real estate industry. The economy is
measured using indicators such as the GDP, employment percentages, manufacturing activity, and
price of goods. When these indicators identify a sluggish economy it translate directly to declining
real estate sales. RE/MAX and the customer alike are directly affected by the economy. A slow
economy consists of decreased homes sales while a flourishing economy affords the customer the
opportunity to buy, which relates to an increase in home sales for the realtor. (Amadeo, 2016)
Government policies and subsides have a sizable impact on property price, and demand. The
government can temporarily boost demand with tax credits, deduction and subsidies. From the
customers point of view

Causes Of Teen Suicide
Teen Suicide
Teenage suicide is a major public health concern in the United States. According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention there were approximately 5,079 suicides in 2015. This occurred
mainly between the age of 15 and 19. This is the second leading cause of death among this age group.
There are different reasons why teenagers may have suicidal thoughts and commit suicide. This essay
will identify the different causes of suicide among teenagers and propose solutions to the problem.
Teen suicide may be defined as the intentional act of a teenager ending his or her own life. Teen
suicide attempts are more common among females when compared to males even though male
teenagers are the ones who actually carry out the act of suicide. The higher rates of suicide in the
United States are attributed to the changes in the suicide methods. Suffocation which happens through
strangulation and hanging is the most lethal method of suicide that is considered by teenagers. The
other forms of suicide that are used by teenagers include firearm suicide in which the teenagers use
firearms to end their lives (Holliday and Vandermause 168). Teen suicide affects both male and female
teenagers even though males are at an increased risk of suicide. Teen suicide rates in the United States
doubled between 1960s and 1990s. There is no clear explanation on this trend even though the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention attributes this to increased reporting. There has been

Change Blindness And The Field Of Human Sensation And...
Change blindness is a phenomenon in attention where drastic changes to a scene can go unnoticed.
This is important to the field of Human Sensation and Perception because it helps illustrate how a
visual scene is processed. Specifically it shows how even if there is direct attention to a scene, there
are times when drastic changes can occur without perception of the change occurring. With extensive
research already conducted illustrating this effect, new research has recently been conducted studying
different types of scene changes in the hopes of understanding which changes are easier or harder to
notice. The results of these studies were quantified by the measurement of change detection time
(usually reported in seconds). This subset of change blindness research has far reaching practical
applications, especially in the field of security and law enforcement. By applying the knowledge of
which type of stimuli lead to longer change detection times training programs could be developed that
allow this population to improve their observation skills.
Literature Review
A study conducted by Gusev, Mikhaylova, and Utochkin used the flicker paradigm as described by
Rensink et. al (1997) to observe the effect of different stimuli on change blindness. The different
stimuli studied were number of objects, object organization, object shape, appearance/disappearance
of an object, object shift, color change of an object, and increasing the interstimulus interval (blank

Top Reasons Why Branding Is Important
Question One A: Using your own words, summarize the seven reasons why branding is important.
1. Strong Brands Protect the Consumer
Brands have always served as sort of an emblem to consumers, that there would be a certain quality
associated with that symbol. There are still many many popular brands today that are able to be
distinguished but, brands are standing out among the rest by gaining a strong positive reputation
which far exceeds the quality of there product. Brands ensure that they will provide consumers with a
standard quality, and if they fail to do so their reputation is tarnished. Brands fight for our money ever
day and try to stand out by focusing more on innovation to one up the competition. Brands also largely
battle with price, which is a large part in the consumer decision. The brand and quality must be worth
it otherwise customers will be lost to the competition. Brands protect their consumers simply because
they provide an innovative product that differs from the competitions product. At the same time, they
are ensuring that the quality is worth an appropriate price. This creates a strong and loyal customer
base that will surely build the brand a positive reputation.
2. Strong Brands Drive Share Performance
Powerful market performance has been proven to advance multiple components including the
shareholders, the company itself, and pensions. Organizations that have strongly branded portfolios
have been seen to consistently surpass those organizations

Individuals have to pay a personal price when they decide to strength and serve their own
individuality.
Two Part Pear Able
And someone says how horrible... there will be revulsion won t there?... demand for expulsion.. (
Swenson 88 97).
The non pear tree represents the individual in this part of the poem.
The tree has nothing wrong with it, infact its only difference is that it has no pears.
It is fairly tall tree sturdy, capable looking... exceptionally pleasing, ( Swenson 9 14).
Because the tree is different from its surroundings, it is faced with discrimination and judgement.
When a person is judged as different and described as horrible just because of the way they look,
The personal price that the tree pays is that it more prone and open to the judgement of those who are
conformists.

Malala reflects upon the personal choice that she made to stand up for her human rights, specifically
the right for women to be educated. The personal choice that she makes threatens her life, forcing her

Why Is Feudalism Important In The Middle Ages
In our society, we believe money is the key facet for power, however, in the medieval ages, money
barely had any value compared to land. Feudalism was a political, economic and social system which
organized the government by using land. The manor was a key aspect of feudalism because it was
where the feudal levels worked together to improve the economy. One of these feudal levels contained
the shepherd, who was an important role in the manor as he helped feudalism s ability to meet its
people s needs. Feudalism allowed for military to protect the culture of its people, and without the
shepherd, the whole system would have collapsed (Biel 9).
Feudalism was an important part of the Middle Ages (Biel 8). This system was created to organize the

It helped the European empire rise from the dark ages, making the empire civilized. Charlemagne, a
Frankish King who reigned for about half a century, used feudalism as a base for building his empire
by establishing a central government (Biel 20). The key to be successful in the feudal system was
land, and the fiefs would be given based off of loyalty. During the Medieval times, the people who
owned land had power. Land provided the possibility to gain military and political power (Nardo 14).
Because of this, the feudal system evolved to become a political tool to gain land and power. There are
3 main levels in this system, that depend on each other to get what they need and contribute to others.
Firstly, the king, who gave fiefs in exchange for an army to protect his empire. Then the vassals, who

John Sirica and The Ammidown Murder Essay
When I discovered that my English class had to do a Research Paper, I became horrified. I thought
students only did this when they were finishing graduate school not when they were starting their first
year in college. All I knew about research papers was that there is an overwhelming amount of
research to do. In my efforts to complete this obstacle and not bore myself to sleep with researching, I
wanted to do an interesting topic, but I had no idea where to begin. I spent hours going through a great
number of subjects and people, but once I found topic remotely interesting, I could not find much
information on the Library of Congress website. Therefore, I decided to choose one word that would
hopefully lead me to an interesting topic. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ammidown. This is typically because John Sirica was more important to the United States history due
to his involvement in the Watergate Trails.
I continued searching further into the United States v. Ammidown, when John was Chief Judge for the
United States District Court, by finding sources on the Library of Congress website. At the Manuscript
Division of the Library of Congress there is a collection summary on The Papers of John J. Sirica that
has 123 containers holding 38,000 items. I visited the Manuscript Division at the Library of Congress
on April 4th , 2012. I was able to get hold of his Bench Book and files on the Ammidown case. I took
a few pictures of some of the documents, but the information was overwhelming.
A few weeks later I decided to come back to fully immerse myself into his Bench Book because I felt
like that was the best way to comprehend John Sirica s thoughts and opinions on the case.
Nevertheless, the information within the book was hand written and is difficult to read. I used a
camera to take pictures of the page that related to the case I m researching in the bench book where I
have started on deciphering the handwriting. Yet, the amount of time I have spent on trying to do so
has made me realize that decoding the rest will take more than a while. There were other files

Kabuki Greek Culture
In 1603, the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate allowed Japan to stay at peace until 1868
(Theatre histories 203). The return of peace allowed for a new culture to emerge that was the opposite
of samurai elegance and control; there was a new form of entertainment called Kabuki. These types of
performers reversed gender roles and mocked samurai rulers, which caused the samurai, traders and
workers in wealthy towns to disapprove of these performers. Even though they were annoyed at these
performances, it confirmed what they took to be their innate superiority to the rowdy culture of the
cities (203). The success of these performances can be explained by the cultural hierarchy theory. The
cultural hierarchy is the idea that cultures create a divide to depict the ethical differences. There is a

Viewers could see the divide between social classes in the performer s costume and makeup because
of how they were being used to get around the government regulations in place to censor anything that
undermined the political and social hegemony of the samurai. When Kabuki first emerged, samurai,
traders and workers in wealthy towns disapproved of these types of performances, but Ieyasu and his
warriors decided to allow them because of how they believed the ban of these performances would
only lead to more trouble. The Samurai and wealthy traders and workers thought very poorly of the
low class people like merchants, so they believed it was better they were being distracted by
entertainment because that way they are not turning to serious crime. However, the Samurai rulers
thought that these performances should be regulated, so soldiers and young men of their class would
not be corrupted by watching these

Essay about Air Pollution in Birmingham, Alabama
Air pollution continues to be a significant problem in the city of Birmingham, as it has been for
decades. No one enjoys walking the streets of Birmingham only to taste or smell the smoke and
particulates in the air, not to mention the damaging effects to one s health. Fortunately, improvements
have been made; forty years ago, residents of Birmingham could not even see the skyline due to the
immense amounts of particulates in the air, but now the skyline is visible on a daily basis. The
noticeable improvement indicates the progress that has been made over the years, but there is still
plenty of room for much needed improvement. Birmingham s air quality is among some of the worst
in the United States, but there are several feasible and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For decades, the air quality in Birmingham did not meet EPA criteria, but crossed the threshold this
year. This achievement demonstrates the prominent progress made by the industries and residents to
improve air quality.
Although much improvement has been made, there is still more to be done. Spencer states that In
2011, the American Lung Association ranked Birmingham the eight worst city in the nation for
particle pollution, or soot (An Old Cloud of Polluted Air Lifts from Birmingham s Shoulders).
Birmingham s attempts at improving air quality have been valuable, but the air in Birmingham is still
dirty when compared to other industrial cities. Pollution continues to pose an enormous threat to
residents of urban cities worldwide. In the August 2008 Monthly Update, it is stated that
approximately 800,000 deaths each year can be attributed to outdoor air pollution, making pollution
the single most harmful environmental hazard to human health in urban areas (Kallman). The fact that
pollution kills hundreds of thousands of people each year alone portrays just how dangerous living in
these conditions can be. Kallman writes about a study which proves an increase in upper respiratory
diseases, cardiovascular mortality, respiratory mortality, and low birth weights when exposed to air
pollutants (August 2008: Monthly Update). These can be very serious diseases and complications
which, when contracted, can lead to death or very serious illnesses. There

  • 2. Pope Vs. Illinois Case Study For this weeks discussion post I chose the Supreme Court case of Pope v. Illinois (1987). This case has several values that make it significant in the field of obscenity and the First Amendment. Referring back to Miller v. California and how it set the standard for identifying obscene material not protected by the First Amendment, some portions are a bit more obscure than others. Take the third or value prong of the three part test to determine whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value. Prior to this case it was unclear how to exactly assess whether a work lacked serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value, but when two attendants at adult bookstores were charged with obscenity under Illinois law by selling certain magazines to undercover police, they moved to dismiss on grounds that the then current version of the Illinois obscenity statute violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The judge in both trials instructed the jury that in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This again reverts back to the First and Fourteenth Amendments, and a violation of non bias objective judgement. This most certainly is a content based restriction, as the stat of Illinois was claiming that the clerk violated a state criminal statute prohibiting the sale of obscene magazines. This case would be considered a valid restriction of speech under Illinois state law because they claim it unnecessary and of no interest for the general public, or community standard, to perches the magazines. The irony in it all is that the Supreme Court overturned the initial ruling that the community standard was inappropriate for determining whether a work had value . Another twist is that this is considered symbolic speech as the clerks are expressing their political opinions of freedom of speech by selling what would be considered obscene ... • 3. The American Of The White Americans Essay The strong will of the white Americans lead to many different races of people changing their ideas because of what was being exerted on them. In dealing with the other races Americans had many opposed views and different ideas for their cultures and also their sufficiency of self government. Americans in the nineteenth century used domestic policy to culturally deprive the newly freed slaves and the American Indians, then in the early twentieth century Americans used newly gained power and foreign policy to help and rule over the Philippines and the people who inhabited there. America is no stranger to imposing their own ideas onto other people and even other places. Slaves once freed really were not free at all. Many things still inhibited them into starting their own independent lives. White Americans were a big one, the placement of black codes, negative perceptions of the Freedman s Bureau and just the view of African Americans in general all prohibited black slaves to live their lives the way they wanted to. Rather they were required to live how the white men wanted them to live. The Americans had the attitude of being above and better than the African Americans, their negativity and deprivation of blacks led to America being unable to progress for a long while. Oral Synthesis Essay Uncertainty with defining the clinical attributes of Apraxia of Speech has been debated in the literature dating back to 1960 s when Darley (1975) first introduced the term Apraxia of Speech (AOS). However, the idea of a motor speech disorder existing with preserved language skills and unimpaired muscular function was originally introduced by Paul Broca in the 1800s (Broca, 1861). McNeil et.al, (2004) defines AOS as a neurogenic communication disorder affecting the planning and programming of speech movements in the absence of weakness, slowness, and incoordination of the speech musculature. Renaissance Dance Pros And Cons Dance in the Renaissance Era is an era that is very intriguing but also very amazing because we can see where dance really started and how it has evolved over time since the Renaissance Era. Although the Renaissance is a very interesting era to examine it is also made clear what a hard era this was for dance but also a great era for dance. I feel that within the Renaissance dance era there are a lot of pros and cons as dance wasn t necessarily appreciated in this time and was seen as something that was more dark and associated with death. He published The English Dancing Master in 1651 which provided information on 105 English country dances. (Sue, Norma. Baroque Dancing Master and Dances. ) Through this period there were many great dancing masters and manuals. Although this was very important in this time the technique and movement of this era is where my real focus lies. Within this era there were 5 selected dance steps that were always used and then put together into a sequence. The 5 steps are; demi coupe, coupe, pas de bourree, temps de courante and the minuet step. All of these steps were then put together and you had do them and in a faster manor which was hard because you aren t familiar with the steps but it is a step you know but it seems harder when put into a different sequence to different music. The steps in the Baroque time were very interesting but the movement qualities are something that would be very hard to adjust to as this is something that has evolved and changed over time as dance has also got more difficult over time. The movement qualities of include low legs, vertical movements, weight primarily on the ball of one foot, relaxed toes, 90 degree turnout and fluttering embroideries of arms and legs. (Sue, Norma. Baroque Dancing Master and Dances. ) From this we can see how the movement qualities are very different from what we do now as the toes would very be relaxed because we now practice a full pointe at all times and we also now practice 180 degree turnout and you don t even really see 90 degree turnout anymore as everyone strives to have that perfect turnout. • 9. The Uncanny Valley And Visual Expertise Introduction The uncanny valley is a phenomenon that occurs when we see human like beings and we notice that they have or are missing some human features. The realization that they are missing human features causes negative feelings of unease. In this paper I will first describe the uncanny valley. MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) provide an interesting explanation as to why it can occur and how the effect can be influenced. MacDorman Cattopadhyay (2016) suggests that eeriness of the uncanny valley is not because of how eerie they look. Rather, it depends on how human like they are. Then, I will describe visual expertise. Visual expertise in this sense refers to our ability to identify faces and other objects that we have experience in perceiving. That experience is used to make top down assumptions about what faces and their features should look like. Harel (2016) looks at visual expertise, where it works, and how it works. Lastly, I will describe the relationship between the uncanny valley and visual expertise. Kätsyri, Förger, Mäkäräinen, Takala (2015) provide an argument in their surveying that can explain the relationship. They suggest that a possible explanation is that the visual expertise that we have with facial recognition perceives featural differences in an artificial human like face. The difference elicit that eerie response because we see something that does look human like, but we identify as not being human. Uncanny Valley The uncanny valley refers to ... Disconnect Of Communication By Employers Disconnect of Communication by Employers: Evaluating the Aftermath of Technical Failures Businesses have become extremely reliant on technology over the past few decades. Processes from accounting to marketing to board meetings are done using special applications and software developed to improve productivity as well as to shrink the distance between office locations. With the invention of computers for ease of day to day functions, to creating a global network that connects people around the world in seconds, the success or demise of a corporation can be determined by its digital components. An efficient, high tech structure maintained by well educated and skilled associates gives an organization the ability to perform more effectively, nationally and internationally. When system outages occur, tasks executed on the network cannot be completed, halting productivity and potentially costing the company financial loss. The speed of recovery in these instances is crucial, but so is the implementation itself. Inadequate handling of procedures and mediocre responses from leaders in a crisis situation involving network/technical failures can wreak havoc on an organization, negatively impacting public image, corporate profits and trust of associates. • 24. Resource Based Sources of Competitive Advantage | Critically discuss the importance of resource based sources of competitive advantage in one of the industries studied on this module. You should discuss a range of companies. Competitive advantage is when a firm sustains profits that exceed the average for its industry. The goal of much of business strategy is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Porter identified two basic types of competitive advantage; cost and differentiation. These two advantages are known as positional advantages as they describe the firm s position in the industry as a leader in either cost or differentiation. However, in this assignment I will discuss and analyse the importance of the resource based view, (which is also known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This core competence is of vital importance as the inability to innovate in today s ever changing environment may lead to entropy and ultimately cessation of trade. Being truly competitive. It is crucial that a resource ultimately delivers a true competitive advantage. This core competence highlights the fact that it is not enough for an organisation just to realise the resource as being a strength, but that it must also be able to prove that it is of both better quality and at a lower cost than the competition. This in basic terms means that it is not good enough for instance to produce a low cost, high quality product, but that it must have not only lower costs than the competitors, it must also produce items of a higher quality or standard that that of its competitors. An example of this is to consider that if Rolls Royce s Far East division does not produce higher quality at a lower cost than both General Electric and Pratt amp; Whitney, it could not gain competitive advantage as this core competence would not be relevant in this situation. Substitutability. A resource is more likely to be able to gain competitive advantage if it cannot be substituted. Although the resource based view is in opposition to Porter s views on strategy, his five forces model identified the threat of substitutes as an environmental force that can influence an organisation in gaining ... • 25. Economic Impact On The Real Estate Market Essay Economic Environment Impact Interest rates have a major economic impact on the real estate market. Interest rates directly affect property sales. Residential property realizes the greatest affect as interest rates have a considerable influence on a homebuyer s capability to purchase a new property. The customer is affected when there are significant increases or decreases in interest rates. Declining interest rates lower the costs of obtaining a mortgage; this in turn creates higher demand for homes, and pushes home prices up. Conversely, high interest rates increase the costs to obtain a mortgage; these increases lower the demand for homes, which creates a decline in home prices. (Stammers, 2016) The overall health of the economy has a significant impact on the real estate industry. The economy is measured using indicators such as the GDP, employment percentages, manufacturing activity, and price of goods. When these indicators identify a sluggish economy it translate directly to declining real estate sales. RE/MAX and the customer alike are directly affected by the economy. A slow economy consists of decreased homes sales while a flourishing economy affords the customer the opportunity to buy, which relates to an increase in home sales for the realtor. (Amadeo, 2016) Government policies and subsides have a sizable impact on property price, and demand. The government can temporarily boost demand with tax credits, deduction and subsidies. • 26. Causes Of Teen Suicide Teen Suicide Teenage suicide is a major public health concern in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there were approximately 5,079 suicides in 2015. This occurred mainly between the age of 15 and 19. This is the second leading cause of death among this age group. There are different reasons why teenagers may have suicidal thoughts and commit suicide. This essay will identify the different causes of suicide among teenagers and propose solutions to the problem. Teen suicide may be defined as the intentional act of a teenager ending his or her own life. Teen suicide attempts are more common among females when compared to males even though male teenagers are the ones who actually carry out the act of suicide. The higher rates of suicide in the United States are attributed to the changes in the suicide methods. Suffocation which happens through strangulation and hanging is the most lethal method of suicide that is considered by teenagers. The other forms of suicide that are used by teenagers include firearm suicide in which the teenagers use firearms to end their lives (Holliday and Vandermause 168). Teen suicide affects both male and female teenagers even though males are at an increased risk of suicide. Teen suicide rates in the United States doubled between 1960s and 1990s. There is no clear explanation on this trend even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention attributes this to increased reporting. There has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Change Blindness And The Field Of Human Sensation And... Change blindness is a phenomenon in attention where drastic changes to a scene can go unnoticed. This is important to the field of Human Sensation and Perception because it helps illustrate how a visual scene is processed. Specifically it shows how even if there is direct attention to a scene, there are times when drastic changes can occur without perception of the change occurring. With extensive research already conducted illustrating this effect, new research has recently been conducted studying different types of scene changes in the hopes of understanding which changes are easier or harder to notice. The results of these studies were quantified by the measurement of change detection time (usually reported in seconds). This subset of change blindness research has far reaching practical applications, especially in the field of security and law enforcement. By applying the knowledge of which type of stimuli lead to longer change detection times training programs could be developed that allow this population to improve their observation skills. Literature Review A study conducted by Gusev, Mikhaylova, and Utochkin used the flicker paradigm as described by Rensink et. al (1997) to observe the effect of different stimuli on change blindness. The different stimuli studied were number of objects, object organization, object shape, appearance/disappearance of an object, object shift, color change of an object, and increasing the interstimulus interval (blank screen ... • 30. Why Is Feudalism Important In The Middle Ages In our society, we believe money is the key facet for power, however, in the medieval ages, money barely had any value compared to land. Feudalism was a political, economic and social system which organized the government by using land. The manor was a key aspect of feudalism because it was where the feudal levels worked together to improve the economy. One of these feudal levels contained the shepherd, who was an important role in the manor as he helped feudalism s ability to meet its people s needs. Feudalism allowed for military to protect the culture of its people, and without the shepherd, the whole system would have collapsed (Biel 9). It helped the European empire rise from the dark ages, making the empire civilized. Charlemagne, a Frankish King who reigned for about half a century, used feudalism as a base for building his empire by establishing a central government (Biel 20). The key to be successful in the feudal system was land, and the fiefs would be given based off of loyalty. During the Medieval times, the people who owned land had power. Land provided the possibility to gain military and political power (Nardo 14). Because of this, the feudal system evolved to become a political tool to gain land and power. There are 3 main levels in this system, that depend on each other to get what they need and contribute to others. Firstly, the king, who gave fiefs in exchange for an army to protect his empire. • 31. John Sirica and The Ammidown Murder Essay When I discovered that my English class had to do a Research Paper, I became horrified. I thought students only did this when they were finishing graduate school not when they were starting their first year in college. All I knew about research papers was that there is an overwhelming amount of research to do. In my efforts to complete this obstacle and not bore myself to sleep with researching, I wanted to do an interesting topic, but I had no idea where to begin. I spent hours going through a great number of subjects and people, but once I found topic remotely interesting, I could not find much information on the Library of Congress website. At the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress there is a collection summary on The Papers of John J. Sirica that has 123 containers holding 38,000 items. I visited the Manuscript Division at the Library of Congress on April 4th , 2012. I was able to get hold of his Bench Book and files on the Ammidown case. I took a few pictures of some of the documents, but the information was overwhelming. A few weeks later I decided to come back to fully immerse myself into his Bench Book because I felt like that was the best way to comprehend John Sirica s thoughts and opinions on the case. Nevertheless, the information within the book was hand written and is difficult to read. I used a camera to take pictures of the page that related to the case I m researching in the bench book where I have started on deciphering the handwriting. Yet, the amount of time I have spent on trying to do so has made me realize that decoding the rest will take more than a while. There were other files ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Kabuki Greek Culture In 1603, the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate allowed Japan to stay at peace until 1868 (Theatre histories 203). The return of peace allowed for a new culture to emerge that was the opposite of samurai elegance and control; there was a new form of entertainment called Kabuki. These types of performers reversed gender roles and mocked samurai rulers, which caused the samurai, traders and workers in wealthy towns to disapprove of these performers. Even though they were annoyed at these performances, it confirmed what they took to be their innate superiority to the rowdy culture of the cities (203). The success of these performances can be explained by the cultural hierarchy theory. The cultural hierarchy is the idea that cultures create a divide to depict the ethical differences. The Samurai and wealthy traders and workers thought very poorly of the low class people like merchants, so they believed it was better they were being distracted by entertainment because that way they are not turning to serious crime. • 33. Essay about Air Pollution in Birmingham, Alabama Air pollution continues to be a significant problem in the city of Birmingham, as it has been for decades. No one enjoys walking the streets of Birmingham only to taste or smell the smoke and particulates in the air, not to mention the damaging effects to one s health. Fortunately, improvements have been made; forty years ago, residents of Birmingham could not even see the skyline due to the immense amounts of particulates in the air, but now the skyline is visible on a daily basis. The noticeable improvement indicates the progress that has been made over the years, but there is still plenty of room for much needed improvement. For decades, the air quality in Birmingham did not meet EPA criteria, but crossed the threshold this year. This achievement demonstrates the prominent progress made by the industries and residents to improve air quality. Although much improvement has been made, there is still more to be done. Spencer states that In 2011, the American Lung Association ranked Birmingham the eight worst city in the nation for particle pollution, or soot (An Old Cloud of Polluted Air Lifts from Birmingham s Shoulders). Birmingham s attempts at improving air quality have been valuable, but the air in Birmingham is still dirty when compared to other industrial cities. Pollution continues to pose an enormous threat to residents of urban cities worldwide. In the August 2008 Monthly Update, it is stated that approximately 800,000 deaths each year can be attributed to outdoor air pollution, making pollution the single most harmful environmental hazard to human health in urban areas (Kallman). The fact that pollution kills hundreds of thousands of people each year alone portrays just how dangerous living in these conditions can be. Kallman writes about a study which proves an increase in upper respiratory diseases, cardiovascular mortality, respiratory mortality, and low birth weights when exposed to air pollutants (August 2008: Monthly Update). These can be very serious diseases and complications which, when contracted, can lead to death or very serious illnesses. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
