Subtopics In The Industrial Revolution
When you enter university or college, you will no doubt have to write an essay in one or more
courses that you will be required to take throughout your academic period; whether it be a
research paper, a persuasive essay, or even a compare and contrast essay, Usually, this always
involves intensive research or a researchprocess such as choosing a topic and to then collect data

How Did Babylonians Use Bladed Weapons
Gabby brooks and thomas willett April 14, 2017 4th hour American History Weaponry The
ancient babylonians used sharpened weapons such as sickle swords, socketed axes, spears, and
the egyptian derived bladed mace, as well as clubs and staffs, and they also used projectiles
flung from war slings. The babylonians were a bronze age people, so the bladed weapons they
used were made of a softer metal than later civilizations iron and steel. This made them less
effective in battle than iron and iron alloy based weapons, as iron is harder and harder blades that
can take a shaper point. At the time, though bronze was top of the line technology. The
babylonians were so good at the empire building that later armies modeled their weapons after the
babylonians designs. They did not possess bows; neither the long bow nor the crossbow have been

They wore breastplates made out of bronze because the top of the torso is a large target and
contains vital organs that need extra protection. Helmets were made out of copper to reduce
weight on the head and increase comfort during battle. Fighting on foot requires a combination
of heavy protection and mobility, and this was an area where the Babylonians decided to trade
off defense for agility. The Babylonians lived in the city of Babylonia, based in central southern
Mesopotamia. This city was located on the river Euphrates in what is now known as southern
Iraq. The city first came into prominence as the royal city of king Hammurabi around the year of
1790 BC. The Babylonians built an empire that gave the world the hanging gardens of babylon,
one of the seven wonders of the world. They also constructed the tower of babel, this tower was
made out of baked brick which was a figurative. That place created to be a place for worshiping.

Effects Of Prohibition In The 1920-1933
When the prohibition law was passed, it affected many different people in many ways.
Prohibition lasted from 1920 1933 during this social experiment it helped us realize as a nation
the more serious crimes that were occurring in our nation. Some disrespected the law, people who
broke the law became criminals. Many groups fought to up hold the law of prohibition by keeping
immigrants and foreign nations out of the U. S s affairs. While other groups turned to criminal
actions such as violence and murders instead of using their rights to free speech. It changed the
education in local schools twisted government officials and further worsened racism and
segregation in the country. While prohibition was trying to make a positive impact in... Show more

The eighteen amendment was the first amendment to include a time limit for ratification. Each
state was free to ban the making and selling of alcoholic drinking within its borders. This section
makes bringing liquor into a dry state of federal offense. Special state conventions were called to
ratify this amendment. This is the only time an amendment was ratified by state conventions
rather than state legislatures. Later the twenty first amendment repealed or canceled this
amendment. The effects of Prohibition triggered the rise of mass disobedience to its laws and
took the amendments advocates by surprise. Prohibition made the gangster not just well paid, but
well liked. The idea that money can buy power was verified by gangsters such as Capone:
bootlegging funds led to both political and violent physical power. This power enabled gangs to
find new avenues to exploit, as well as new ways to run old types business, such as gambling.
Similarly, organized crime continues today because of the prohibition on gambling, prostitution and
drugs. Where there is demand, there will be supply. Prohibition permanently corrupted law
enforcement, the court system, and politics. Organized crime was huge, and it had a lot of money
and influence. Policemen and politicians were bribed and blackmailed. Many court cases required
payoffs to get a fair hearing. In other words, corruption abounded and the people began distrusting
the government. Prohibition harmed people

Emily Grierson Hierarchy
William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily depicts the need for a hierarchy by which to
rank and organize individuals by merit of their importance. Class, gender and race each play a
vital role in determining the interactions of Jefferson s residents. Notably, these issues affect how
Emily Grierson, Homer Barron, and Emily s Negro servant Tobe are treated by the townspeople,
as well as their behavior. Together race, gender and class portray and define the characters for who
they are and act to elucidate their positions in society. The hierarchy in Jefferson dictates that class
supersedes gender, which in turn, supersedes race.
At the center of Faulkner s story is Emily Grierson a proper, old fashioned monument to the past. ...

As Emily was considered an aristocrat of sorts in the town, her actions, inappropriate by any other
woman, continued without question. In Jefferson, class superseded the stereotypes against a
gender, and to an extent even law and logic.
With rumors of a romantic relationship between Homer and Emily, the townspeople s first
reaction was to reject the notion as folly. The women of the town speculate that a Grierson
would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer while the town elders believed that
Emily would be unable to forget the noblesse oblige : the obligations of the higher class
(Faulkner 311). In the eyes of the town, it would be improper for a woman of such high class to
intermingle with a man of lower class. This, along with his affiliation with the Yankees, results in
the town turning against Homer, despite his seemingly agreeable personality. Homer and Emily s
relationship created changes to the status quo. In turn these changes resulted in the summoning of
Emily s sister from Alabama; this decision, later regretted by the town, was a last ditch effort to
preserve the conventional order of class within Jefferson. Despite the criticism Emily receives, she
chooses to continue in her pursuit of Homer, demonstrating her continued indifference to the
opinions of those around her, a benefit available to her because of her social class.
Despite the abolishment of slavery across the United States in 1865, racism plays a role in the
portrayal and

A Mermaid Research Paper
I live on a planet named Oceano, created by the Great Poseidon. Eighty percent of the planet is
composed of water and eighty five percent of the population are mermaids and mermen. For
centuries we have lived in a world of peace with the humans and have created an everlasting
friendship. Everything was perfect until yesterday, when the humans decided to strip us of our
most valuable treasure, the fountain of youth and fortune. This has caused chaos in the water,
and infuriated my father, the King of the Ocean. Not only do I see this as a betrayal from the
humans, but as a chance to prove myself to all the mermaids, mermen, and my father who I truly
am. Today I have begun my quest for the fountain of youth and fortune. The witch of the ocean has
agreed to turn me in to human until I could find the fountain and once I touch the ocean s water I
would be a mermaid again. I must do it for the good of our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

eyes, that reflected the entire world, set on me. He reached for me and threw me across the
room. He had more strength than any other human I had seen, but I knew I could take him. I
hastily got up and made a run for his spear, at the same time he did. He was quick but not quick
enough, I grabbed the spear and aimed it at his heart just as he pulled a blade from his belt. The
spear went through his heart before he had the chance to stab me with the blade. As he died, the
powers of the fountain had no effect on him and he began to reveal himself. His beauty vanished,
his toned muscles faded and what remained was a bald, toothless, hunchback with a spear across his

It was a beautiful spring morning in Mound City Missouri. The population was only around
1,000 people. Andrew and I were up bright and early before the peak of dawn. The forecast
looked sunny with a touch of fog. We were busy at the hotel preparing for our first morning of
the hunt. Andrew don t forget the snacks and Mountain Dew like you did last year, I hinted. With
a chuckle, Andrew said, I won t this time, and you make sure we got the shotguns, and shells
packed. We can t forget those. Both of us had our stuff together and headed outside to the truck.
They made sure they had everything and were off on our 20 minute drive to the field. We got out

We had left the hospital around 5 am just in time to get to the field. We started off the day, and we
shot a lot of geese that morning. We shot 197 snow geese on the trip. We were at the hotel on
Monday morning, and we were eating breakfast when we saw what the forecast was on the
news. There was supposed to be a really bad snow storm, but we blew it off, and we started our
trip home around noon. We were about an hour into the trip and the snow storm hit. It was blizzard
conditions, and the wind started to pick up, and before long the wind was howling! We had to stay
at a hotel in Maryville.
I blew up at Andrew, Why did we have to go we could have just stayed in Mound City!

Kids Should Not Be Allowed To Wear Uniforms In Schools
Many schools each year are gradually turning towards the use of school uniforms. Statistics show
that 5% of schools worldwide are starting to take use in having school uniforms. I believe that
schools should have uniforms because it limits kids to getting bullied, parents don t have to worry
if their kids have name brand clothingor not, and the schooldoesn t have to worry about kids
dressing inappropriately.
In case, you didn t know, more than half of the kids who don t wear uniforms to school get bullied
every day. If kids wear uniforms to school it decreases their chance at getting bullied about the
clothes they wear. Although most kids don t like the fact that they have to match every other kid,

Most kids are late getting to school because they do not know what to wear. If schools get
uniforms it will reduce the amount of kids showing late up late to school every day. Also,
teachers won t have to stress about kids wearing inappropriate clothing to school if they have to
wear uniforms. Although, kids like to express themselves by the clothes they wear, having school
uniforms decreases the chance of kids showing up late to school and dressing inappropriately. If
schools who have uniforms came up with a way for kids to express themselves, uniforms wouldn t
be as bad.
All things considered, I think every school should have uniforms. Although, not very many schools
have uniforms now, this can be the first of many steps to end bullying, they can help the parents
save money, and they will stop kids from dressing inappropriately. After considering all the
solutions that can impact your students in positive ways, schools should consider having uniforms.
School uniforms can fix many of the problems that students face on a day to day basis although,
they don t let kids express

Likewise, in initiation ceremonies, boys are circumcised as well as subincised, and the first
ceremonies of initiation, with the use of #8216;bullroarers #8217;, are intended to make them
independent (and separated) from their mothers and other females. Subincision, from the view
of the Arunda tribe, was designed to cause the male organ to resemble the vulva, and that the
effusion of blood was regarded as serving the same function as menstruation, which in the female
enabled her naturally to dispose of the evil that accumulate in the body. To continue the same
effect, males periodically engage in incision of the penis and called it menstruation. Marriage
arrangements were made when the children were very young and even before they were born.
Girls were usually married (through a handing over ceremony) when she was about 11 or 12
years old when she reached puberty. Most marriages took place at a particular place. For
example, in the Shoalhaven region, Coolangatta Mountain was a traditional marriage place or
site. It would have been significant because particular ancestors married there (according to a
Dreamtime story or stones), and because of tradition of thousands of couples marrying over time.
For marriage purposes, every tribe was divided into four main groups, sometimes called marriage

decide whether something is good or bad for us; therefore, great part of it are specialists
critiquing the work of others. For example, you will always see people writing journals about the
negative and positive aspects of a work entertainment, publicity, or information. This happens
because these people have the need to feel superior to the ones that do the work they are

For many years, Society has always been in favor of men and has cataloged women as mom as
an easy way to call us with no offense. In reality, men believe that bringing a baby to this world
is just a favor to a women in order to make its family complete, but most of the time men do not
take care of the baby like women do. For example, when a baby born, women have less time to
sleep. More specifically, if the baby cry in the middle of the night, the woman is the one who
wakes up and go to check what happened with the baby while men continue their sweet dreams.
Also, women lose its freedom because their baby becomes the foreground of their life and her
friends start being part of the background; however, men do not think like that. They do not
change at all, in many cases they continue hanging out with their friends, having time to watch
their favorite television program, and even to take a refreshing bath with warm water. As
consequence, with all of those kind of stress, women can start getting fatigue, thing that is not
good because if we get sick while our baby is still dependent of us. We have to do all the facts
that I had stated before including our job without any help. This happened because society stated
that women is the one who is in charge of a baby, house or everything, but I think that a baby
does not form by him or herself, nor by magic, therefore to make a baby it required two people

Urban Land Use And Transportation Planning
Question 1. This approach has several advantages. First, it provides much more spatially
detailed information than traditional data at the aggregate level of planning districts. Hence,
using this disaggregate information, we can suggest policy implications to establish specific
land use and transportation planning. UrbanSim, one of the advanced microsimulation model
developed by University of Washington, uses gridcells of 150*150 meter, which presents
spatially detailed structure and enables researchers to evaluate current urban land use patterns
as well as predict future urban land use change at the micro level. However, a building scale
analysis provides much more benefits because it is a more realistic model and can be easily
combined with current urban big data. For example, if this agent based model is combined with
complex human behaviors data, it can provide much more specific information for predicting
events of an emergency such as a building fire and disasters from earthquake or tsunami. Also, if
this model is combined with information on spatial human activities from mobile phone, it can
provide great benefits for managing spatial and temporal planning for the urban places. More
specifically, we can identify hot spots during daytime and nighttime, which can help to predict
travel demands as well land use demand. Second, with the building scale dataset, we can deal with
a variety of urban problems and issues. For example, energy is one of the big issues in our

Adapting Romeo and Juliet from the iconic play enjoyed by millions over centuries in an attempt
to modernize has obviously meant that nuances in the original stage performance have needed to
be lost, in its original state the play was designed and written to be heard and experienced audibly,
however that scenario would have led to a very boring dark and un discernable movie, leaving the
viewer with little to see and experience visually. Much planning was needed to bring about Mr.

Love Not Legalism By Madeleine L Engle
Love Not Legalism
Madeleine L Engle was a fierce thought provoking writer. She challenged me as both a believer
and a writer. Her scatterbrained writing style was relatable to me and so were the things she
talked about. She would have been a wonderful wise woman to grab a meal with. She did not shy
away from controversial topics; but instead, she introduced them. In Walking on Water L Engle
sought to share the freedom available to us if we allow Jesus Christ to break us free from our chains.
One of the topics that L Engle humbly addressed was the topic of legalism. I greatly appreciated
this because I find that many world renowned leaders shy away from talking about it, when in
reality it may be one of the enemy s most disguised tools. When people see God as an
unapproachable killjoy, it becomes natural to grow distant from Him, and I know that before
becoming a Christian this was the biggest stumbling block for me and I know some of the most
kindhearted people cannot grasp the fact that God loves them and that He sent His one and only
son to save them. L Engle also tackled the major misconception that God does not know how to
laugh. He created humor and is pretty humorous himself. George MacDonald said, It is the Heart
that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in His presence (131). I am learning that more
and more every day. The common trait that my most joyful friends share is confidence in God s love
for them. A relationship with God has so

disfiguring to the patient s breast. This video went over the procedure, giving step by step
instructions on how to perform this exam. It begins with a mammogram that demonstrated an
abnormality. There are many options a patient can choose when they find out they have an
abnormality in their breast. One option is to have a breast biopsy. A minimally invasive needle
localization breast biopsy is a relatively easy for the patient. Only local anesthesia is required for
this procedure. The patient lays on their stomach with their breast falling through... Show more

Stereotactic imaging is performed to make sure that the needle is at the correct site of the lesion.
As an extra precaution, the coordinates of the needle can be checked by using the computer. A T
Fastener is also inserted into the breast tissue to fix the tissue in place during the biopsy. Another
stereotactic image is taken to demonstrate where the T Fastener is at in the breast. After the
stereotactic images are taken, is it now time to begin the removal of the tissue. Before you insert
the cannula into the breast, you have to make sure the needle and T Fastener are both locked into
place on the stage assembly. The cannula is inserted into the breast by a circular cutting blade. A
transverse incision is made and the skin flaps are folded over the cannula. The cannula is pushed
through the tissue, usually fourteen millimeters past the lesion and T Fastener. After the cannula is
positioned, another stereotactic image is taken to verify if the lesion is contained within the

Missing Language
The use of grammar has been my weakness on most of my papers. Since I start taking courses in
Montgomery College, I have been working hard on my grammar usage. Although I have made some
improvements, I still struggle with using the preposition and having missing words. Missing words
are my main struggle throughout the course. For instance, on the Nature essay, before the draft due,
I proofread it, and went to writingcenter a couple times; however, I still had some missing words
on my paperthat my instructor point out. Although I tried super hard to get the concept of it, I
still have the difficulty of missing words on my essays. However, When I did the revisions, prof.

Norfolk and Southern Railway
Norfolk and Southern Railway has had a very colorful heritage. This railway is one of the world s
largest railways. It is a very well known railway.
The Norfolk and Sothern railway has been honored as the safest railway in the world. This railway
has held the safety honor bell longer than any railway company. It has as many as twenty thousand
route miles in twenty two states across the United States. Since the early 1800s there have been
hundred maybe thousands of small railway companies, over time many of these small companies
merged to create what is now known as the Norfolk and Southern railway. Some of the small
railway companies that merged to create this railway are The Southern Railway and Norfolk and

The Last Supper Research Paper
Research Essay
The Last Supper painted by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most famous and complex works of
art in the world. A better understanding of this painting will enable people to understand Da Vinci s
mind, and give people an insight into the Renaissance period.
This painting was commissioned by the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza. Ludovico Sforza wanted
this particular scene painted in the dining hall of the Convent of Santa Maria Delle Grazie in
Milan, Italy. In 1495, Leonardo Da Vinci began work on The Last Supper and completed the
painting in 1498. When painting this mural, Da Vinci did not take the traditional approach. Instead
of making this a Fresco, an art technique of painting on a moist, plaster surface with colors ground
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first reason comes from the fact that Da Vinci created his own technique, and was able to
make use of bright vibrant colors in his work. Another reason this painting is impressive is
because of the level of emotion Da Vinci was able to convey on the faces of the Apostles. Other
depictions of The Last Supper fall short of Da Vinci s painting because they can not express the
intense emotion the way Da Vinci did. The Last Supper was not the first famous biblical scene ,
but it changed the biblical art scene because of the apostles specific expressions and the intimate
feeling that they create. (Mussio 3). This includes the facial expressions that the apostles wear and
body movements that they make. The final reason this painting is considered a masterpiece is
because of the one point perspective Da Vinci achieves. In this painting, every element of the
painting is centered around Jesus Christ. This incredible one point perspective was achieved by Da
Vinci when he hammered a nail into the wall, then tied a string to it to make marks that helped
guide his hands (Puchko 2). The revolutionary one point perspective, new technique Da Vinci uses,
and incredible portrayal of emotions makes this painting a marvel of the Renaissance

Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities...
Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid
discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities
for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the
law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United Statesstructure of opportunity.
When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed
opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the
majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The
structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution
of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of
whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for
people of different ethnicity and color made it as such.
People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who
were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity
from becoming more educated. The glass ceiling that held them back for so long was the structure
of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other
aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society.

Essay dreams
Dreams have long fascinated the human race. This alternate reality, separate from the conscious
world we see around us, has captured the interest of many people throughout history. In fact,
mankind has been studying dreams since the invention of the written word. Perhaps the lure of
dreams is that there seems to be some significance behind them. Most reject the idea that dreamsare
just randommeaningless fragments of data. The vivid sensations that dreams create are just too
powerful to ignore. The world of dreams is filled with peculiar phenomenon and unexpected events
that beg our attention. Consider the following example of a dream:

However, this kind of thinking did not last long. A Greek philosopher in the 5th Century named
Heraclitus was probably the first to suggest that dreams actually originated from within. He stated
that each individual s dreams were unique and were products of his own mind. Socrates and Plato
followed where Heraclitus left off, corroborating his theory with their own research. Finally it was
Aristotle who completely dispelled the notion that dreams were attempts at divine communication.
His practical approach to dream research paved the way for future scholars such as Freud and
Jung. Aristotle stated that dreams were most often fragments of the days events, and could
sometimes provide insight into one s personal problems. (Parker 10 15)
In 1899, more than two thousand years after Aristotle, Sigmund Freud published The
Interpretation of Dreams and modern dream psychology was born (Fontana 26). Freud looked
down on other methods of dream interpretation because they were too rigid. Psychologists would
create lists of dream symbols along with their meaning so that they could quickly look up the
meaning of a dream. Freud believed that each person associated dream symbols with different
things. For example, a ship going through a storm could represent a difficult time at work for one
person, but it could represent a health problem for someone else. Freud developed his own method
of dream interpretation, which he called free

Character Analysis in Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller
Perhaps it is due to the abandonment by his father that Willy Loman experienced at a very young
age, or the subsequent abandonment, a few years later of his older brother Ben, that underlies the
reason Willy so desperately seeks to be loved and accepted. He continually makes reference to
being well liked as being of the utmost importance. Physical appearance, worldly admiration, and
the opinion of others are more important to Willy than the relationship he has with his own family.
These and several other references throughout Death of a Salesmanportray the troubled relationship
between Willy and his two sons, Biff and Happy.

simply be who they are so they continue the course of deception in their relationship. If the boys

Miyazaki also introduces to the audience the importance of one s name. From the moment she
gets a job from Yubaba the bathhouse owner, Chihiro is bound under a contract that magically
changes her name to Sen. If it had not been for a goodbye card from a friend, Chihiro would
have forgotten her real name. As for Haku, he has not been able to recall his own name for years.
When he does remember later in the film, his eyes are opened and he undergoes emotional and
physical changes. Another aspect of Japanese folklore involved in the film highlights passing
through spaces which mark a separation between one world and another. Areas like the bridge to
the bathhouse, and the tunnel to the abandoned theme park represent this part of Japanese culture.
However, the most important cultural aspect included in the film is the original title. When women
or children suddenly disappeared and could not be located for a long period of time, it was
assumed they had met kamikakushi, as Reider puts it. Once they come back from Kamikakushi,
they are believed to be socially resurrected. One could say that in the film Chihiro meets her own
Kamikakushi during the time she is away from her parents.
As she goes through the tunnel at the beginning of the film, Chihiro is a whiny little girl who does
not like change. When she comes out of the tunnel at the end of the film, she is standing tall,
fearless, and confident. This post Kamikakushi is one of many examples of character

Feminist Criticism of Frankenstein and The Yellow Wallpaper
Feminism in literature has existed as early as the 16th century, the belief that men and women
should have equal rights and opportunities (Shneir, Miram). Throughout history, women have
portrayed the idea of feminism in literature, with one of the most famous feminist writers being
Mary Shelley. Shelley was born in 1797 into a notable family, with her mother, Mary
Wollstonecraft, being a renowned feminist writer herself (Biogram). Her novelFrankensteinwas
published in 1818, a time when most women were extremely conservative, and were deprived of
the rights and opportunities that men held. In the novel, Shelley portrays feminism by
essentially mocking women and giving them a lack of power showing how women should not
be. One way Shelley mocks women in Frankenstein is the societal role she gives her female
characters. This is first seen in the beginning of the novel, when young Elizabeth is presented to
Victor Frankenstein in the form of a pretty present (Shelley 7), portraying Elizabeth as being in a
sense a gift to Victor, causing her to be seen as inferior to him. Elizabeth s physical appearance is
also frequently referred to: her golden hair, blue eyes, and thin body; but rarely are her non
superficial attributes, assuming that those hold little value. The focus on only the physicality of
women is also portrayed in The Birthmark by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The short story discusses a
husband, Alymer s, wishes to have his wife s facial birthmark removed, due to

Theme Of The Wind In The Willow
Pastoral Themes in the Wind the Willows
Pastoral works refer to a genre of literature that focuses on the bucolic aspects of nature and the
countryside. The English countryside represents the ideal location for a pastoral work. One such
work is the Edwardian children s story, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. Since its
publication in 1908, the story has become a beloved children s classic. However, the story
represents Edwardian society in England, and uses anthropomorphized animals to represent
Edwardian men. As a pastoral work, the events of the story occur in the English countryside, where
the animals work together to care for the wild one in their group, Mr. Toad. Mr. Toad s Wild Ride

The author used the background of a pastoral vision to help elucidate the characteristics of
Edwardian society. Mr. Toad is one of the most known characters from the work. He is extremely
wealthy and essentially bored with his life. His English country life does not offer him
fulfillment. As such, he jumps from interest to interest, quickly grabbing at new hobbies. As a
wealthy landed scion, he has the luxury of this lifestyle. From the earliest mentions of his home,
Toad Hall, it becomes apparent that he represents the landed gentry. Rat points out his home
from the river. The stables are over there to the right. That s the banqueting hall you re looking at

interests, spending the money his father left him. Rat describes this character flaw of Toad:

(Grahame 21). Toad quickly takes up motoring as his new hobby. Motoring referred to the hobby
of driving and racing cars, something only the wealthy could afford at this time. All of this is
discussed as the characters take a slow ride down the river and then sit quietly in the countryside.
An outdoor luncheon helps to create the image of the setting. The English countryside represents
the perfect pastoral setting, and the characters all seem to enjoy

Imagery In Pink Dog By Rio Di Janiero
Pink is not only a clothes color for well dressed individuals with exceptional taste in clothes or
for brave, courageous, stable, and smart men, it is also a color associated with sexuality and love;
here, however, it is associated with dogs and Rio di Janiero. In the poem Pink Dog by Elizabeth
Bishop, the speaker reveals her anxiousness of the flux of human life by presenting the metaphor of

Carnival is a place of no order and reversed rules. Extravagant celebration is paralleled with the
abandonment of moral principles and social hierarchy. The word carnival is associated with
forsaking flesh and with the more comprehensive, getting solace by taking flesh. It is, as tradition,
the final celebration before the restrained Lent. Elizabeth Bishop s Pink Dog reveals the speaker s

who comes as their leader simply because he blew the conch. This suggests that humans select their
leaders based on who brought them together. Jack then comes to the assembly, already with the
leadership role of head of the choir, and assumes he should be the leader of the entire group of
boys. After a vote for leader between Ralph and Jack, Ralph is elected. No one ever even
considers Piggy to be a candidate, even though he had the idea for an assembly and was the most
passionate about setting up order on the island.
Before discussing the dynamics between these characters, it must be understood what what shaped
their personalities in the first place. Trying situations force people to show their true selves.

Subaru s Five Irresistible Used Sporty Cars
Subaru s 5 Irresistible Used Sporty Cars Subaru, founded on July 15th 1953, is the twenty
second largest automaker by production worldwide in 2012 and for good reason. Subaru began
selling cars with the motto Inexpensive, and built to stay that way and delivered the best
economic cars. Their grand entrance into motor vehicular field was made with Subaru 1500,
that used a 1.5 litre four cylinder OHV engine, which set the bar high for themselves and others.
Though four wheel drives are the reason for Subaru s fame, there are some very sweet rides that
went out of production but are still the best choice among used cars. 1. Impreza P1 Impreza P1

McRae drove Subaru to clinch Britain s first ever World Championship in 1995. The P1 (Prodrive

litre turbocharged flat 4 boxer engine that displays a maximum power of 280 bhp @ 280 rpm. Its
top speed is a recorded 155 mph and goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The front and rear

This machine revolutionized chocolate making for the rest of history. The cocoa press cleverly
worked to squeeze the cocoa butter from roasted cocoa beans, leaving behind dry clumps which
could then be pulverized into a fine powder. The fine powder could be mixed with liquids and
other ingredients and poured into molds, then solidified into the chocolate we have today. This
invention by van Houten brought in the modern era of chocolate by enabling it to be used as a
confectionery and baking ingredient. This resulted in chocolate having a hefty price drop so it
could be bought by the growing population of chocolate

Within this report I will be analysing carbon 14 a radioisotope. A radioisotope is a radioactive
isotope and isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons but different number of
neutrons in their nuclei. Carbon 14 is a radioisotope of the element carbon.
Structure of Carbon 14
The diagram above shows the structure of carbon 14. Carbon 14 has six protons in the nucleus
and six neutrons, giving carbon 14 an atomic mass of 12. It also has an extra two neutrons which
makes the total eight neutrons. Carbon 14 also has two shells, shell one consist of two electrons

Art of War Summary
Art of War is a famous Chinese military strategy book written by Sun Tzu, an ancient Chinese
military general. He was famous during his time and for his work entitled Art of War, which made
him known even up to our century. According to Wallace (2010), Sun Tzu is the author of one of
the most prominent pieces of literature during the era of the Warring States in which Chinaentered
around the first millennium B.C.E. In this work of art Sun Tzutakes a rational approach to the
problem of conflict and dissects every aspect of it. Sun Tzu is undeniably an historical figure. The
book is all about how to win a war by employing strategies and tactics given the information and

Sun Tzu said that the art of war recognizes Nine situations and these are elaborated in the eleventh
chapter. These are: dispersive ground; facile ground; contentious ground; open ground; ground of
intersecting highways; serious ground; difficult ground; hemmed in ground; desperate ground.
Translators say that these nine situations can be generally grouped into early, middle, and late
stage conditions, and they range from scattering to deadly. In each of these situations, there is one
and only one appropriate response. As the title says, Attacking by fire this chapter is basically lays
down the five different ways to attack the enemy using fire. First, burn the soldiers in their camp.
Second, burn their stores. Third, burn their equipment. Fourth, burn their weapons. Lastly, burn
their supplies. The ways mentioned have been widely used by many battles. The last chapter
focuses on the importance of gathering information from reliable sources and managing them. It
specifically discusses the value and methods of developing good information sources. It describes
five kinds of spies: local spies, inside spies, reverse spies, dead spies, and living spies. Reliable
information can help mold your own strategy and gain competitive

UDHR
The United Nations (UN s) Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) has been moderately
successful in promoting equality around the world. Its commitment to ensuring the rights of
humans are upheld is admirable, and the easy access document concisely summarised into thirty
articles is immensely helpful. However, its implementation into particular situations is not always
effective. In some situations, the declaration has been astonishingly unsuccessful in promoting
equality, such as its failure to create equality and justice between the white and Indigenous
populations of Australia in the late 1940s to the 1970s. However, in other situations particularly in
more recent years the declaration has been quite effective in bringing about changes... Show more

The declaration s blatant failure in some regards is evident in Australia s era of extreme racial
discrimination against the country s Indigenous population. The declaration did virtually nothing to
enforce the rights of the Aboriginal people; instead, they were forced to resort to protesting against
the government s discriminatory laws and policies. Nevertheless, the declaration has also been
considerably successful in enforcing people s rights, as seen in Yemen s juvenile justice system,
and the part the declaration played in abolishing the death penalty, among other malpractices taking
place in the country s juvenile justice system. Through these examples, the true nature of the
UDHR can be observed while creating opportunities for many situations around the world to be
repaired, it has not been, nor will it ever be able to fully establish equality throughout the world.
The opinion of the United Nations as a whole is simply not enough to achieve complete equality on

The only two exceptions in the story seem to be Charlie and the great Willy Wonka. Throughout
the book Willy Wonka is highly respected and thought to be a genius by everyone. He is
revered, and nothing but praise seems to be heaped upon him by every character in the story and
what seems to put him apart from everyone is his belief in both ideals. Even though it is not
stated in the book there is clear evidence that Wonka is a very business minded individual and
gives the success of his factory massive importance. This is shown in the way he closed down
his factory from the public in order to safeguard the secrets of his products from spy efforts from
his competitors. Another shrewd business maneuver was putting the golden tickets inside
chocolate bars, knowing the tickets would be highly coveted, he knew that sales for his candy
would skyrocket. On the other hand Wonka is very faith driven as shown by his choosing of
Charlie to be his successor. Wonka chooses Charlie for his faith and willingness to accept the
wisdom of others, Charlie obviously not being blinded by his own self gain. I want a good,
sensible, loving child. (151) Charlie also seems to share in Wonka s belief of both ideals
evidenced by his good natured faith that leads him to be chosen as Wonka s successor but also in
his want for a better life. He wanted something more out life and unlike his father he did not simply
sit around hoping for a miracle. Charlie saw his opportunity in the golden tickets and pursued it. He

Military Vs. Civilian Life
Many civilians end up thanking veterans for their service without knowing how their lives actually
differ. Military life can offer many differences that civilian life cannot. Having lived both lives, I
have an inside perspective on the differences between the two. These differences can include laws,
regulations, and the different types of punishment one may receive. Although, everything between
the two may seem different, there is also a similarity. That similarity, is encountering the same
personality types in the military as one would as a civilian. The last, the biggest difference between
military and civilian life is the benefits. Although the benefits may not seem like much, they are the
key reason people switch from civilian to military life.
Both military personnel and civilians must follow the local, state and federal law, except the
military has their own laws; known as the uniform code of military justice (UCMJ). Both military
and civilian citizens alike must follow all the laws of this land; an example of these laws could
be speeding, assault, or even underage drinking. While civilians only adhere to federal/state law,
members of the military obey these laws, as well as the UCMJ. The UCMJ is the basis for all
military law; these laws make up the 146 articles that are the UCMJ. The articles cover an
expansive amount of criminal offenses; such as rape, theft, and even murder. If a member of the
military violates these laws they use a civilian court system and will

Specifically, another potential dimension, recovery, is incorporated into the SERVPERF
instrument. After establishing sufficient reliability and validity of this instrument, we proceed
with the second objective to examine the relationship among service quality, food quality, perceived
value, customer satisfaction, and behavioral intentions. The organization of this paper includes
another п¬Ѓve sections. The theoretical foundation of perceived service quality and its dimensions
are reviewed in the next section, followed by the research methodology including the development
of the instrument. Then, the data analysis and п¬Ѓndings of this study are presented, followed by
the conclusions and managerial implications. The paper concludes with a section on the limitations
of this work and potential future research. 2. Theoretical foundation The importance of service
quality is substantially addressed in the fast food management literature. Superior service leads to
satisfied and loyal customers whose continued patronage is essential to the success of FFRs.
Conversely, poor service quality increases customer dissatisfaction and the likelihood that
customers dine at a competitor s FFR and/or become an active champion in persuading others to go
elsewhere (Gilbert et al., 2004). Hence, it is crucial for service managers to understand how
customers perceive the service they provide, and what components might determine

How Did Babylonians Use Bladed Weapons Gabby brooks and thomas willett April 14, 2017 4th hour American History Weaponry The ancient babylonians used sharpened weapons such as sickle swords, socketed axes, spears, and the egyptian derived bladed mace, as well as clubs and staffs, and they also used projectiles flung from war slings. The babylonians were a bronze age people, so the bladed weapons they used were made of a softer metal than later civilizations iron and steel. This made them less effective in battle than iron and iron alloy based weapons, as iron is harder and harder blades that can take a shaper point. At the time, though bronze was top of the line technology. The babylonians were so good at the empire building that later armies modeled their weapons after the babylonians designs. They wore breastplates made out of bronze because the top of the torso is a large target and contains vital organs that need extra protection. Helmets were made out of copper to reduce weight on the head and increase comfort during battle. Fighting on foot requires a combination of heavy protection and mobility, and this was an area where the Babylonians decided to trade off defense for agility. The Babylonians lived in the city of Babylonia, based in central southern Mesopotamia. This city was located on the river Euphrates in what is now known as southern Iraq. The city first came into prominence as the royal city of king Hammurabi around the year of 1790 BC. The Babylonians built an empire that gave the world the hanging gardens of babylon, one of the seven wonders of the world. Later the twenty first amendment repealed or canceled this amendment. The effects of Prohibition triggered the rise of mass disobedience to its laws and took the amendments advocates by surprise. Prohibition made the gangster not just well paid, but well liked. The idea that money can buy power was verified by gangsters such as Capone: bootlegging funds led to both political and violent physical power. This power enabled gangs to find new avenues to exploit, as well as new ways to run old types business, such as gambling. • 6. Emily Grierson Hierarchy William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily depicts the need for a hierarchy by which to rank and organize individuals by merit of their importance. Class, gender and race each play a vital role in determining the interactions of Jefferson s residents. Notably, these issues affect how Emily Grierson, Homer Barron, and Emily s Negro servant Tobe are treated by the townspeople, as well as their behavior. Together race, gender and class portray and define the characters for who they are and act to elucidate their positions in society. The hierarchy in Jefferson dictates that class supersedes gender, which in turn, supersedes race. At the center of Faulkner s story is Emily Grierson a proper, old fashioned monument to the past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Emily was considered an aristocrat of sorts in the town, her actions, inappropriate by any other woman, continued without question. In Jefferson, class superseded the stereotypes against a gender, and to an extent even law and logic. With rumors of a romantic relationship between Homer and Emily, the townspeople s first reaction was to reject the notion as folly. The women of the town speculate that a Grierson would not think seriously of a Northerner, a day laborer while the town elders believed that Emily would be unable to forget the noblesse oblige : the obligations of the higher class (Faulkner 311). In the eyes of the town, it would be improper for a woman of such high class to intermingle with a man of lower class. This, along with his affiliation with the Yankees, results in the town turning against Homer, despite his seemingly agreeable personality. Homer and Emily s relationship created changes to the status quo. In turn these changes resulted in the summoning of Emily s sister from Alabama; this decision, later regretted by the town, was a last ditch effort to preserve the conventional order of class within Jefferson. Despite the criticism Emily receives, she chooses to continue in her pursuit of Homer, demonstrating her continued indifference to the opinions of those around her, a benefit available to her because of her social class. Despite the abolishment of slavery across the United States in 1865, racism plays a role in the portrayal and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. A Mermaid Research Paper I live on a planet named Oceano, created by the Great Poseidon. Eighty percent of the planet is composed of water and eighty five percent of the population are mermaids and mermen. For centuries we have lived in a world of peace with the humans and have created an everlasting friendship. Everything was perfect until yesterday, when the humans decided to strip us of our most valuable treasure, the fountain of youth and fortune. This has caused chaos in the water, and infuriated my father, the King of the Ocean. Not only do I see this as a betrayal from the humans, but as a chance to prove myself to all the mermaids, mermen, and my father who I truly am. Today I have begun my quest for the fountain of youth and fortune. The witch of the ocean has agreed to turn me in to human until I could find the fountain and once I touch the ocean s water I would be a mermaid again. I must do it for the good of our... I hastily got up and made a run for his spear, at the same time he did. He was quick but not quick enough, I grabbed the spear and aimed it at his heart just as he pulled a blade from his belt. The spear went through his heart before he had the chance to stab me with the blade. As he died, the powers of the fountain had no effect on him and he began to reveal himself. Subincision, from the view of the Arunda tribe, was designed to cause the male organ to resemble the vulva, and that the effusion of blood was regarded as serving the same function as menstruation, which in the female enabled her naturally to dispose of the evil that accumulate in the body. To continue the same effect, males periodically engage in incision of the penis and called it menstruation. Girls were usually married (through a handing over ceremony) when she was about 11 or 12 years old when she reached puberty. Most marriages took place at a particular place. In reality, men believe that bringing a baby to this world is just a favor to a women in order to make its family complete, but most of the time men do not take care of the baby like women do. For example, when a baby born, women have less time to sleep. More specifically, if the baby cry in the middle of the night, the woman is the one who wakes up and go to check what happened with the baby while men continue their sweet dreams. Also, women lose its freedom because their baby becomes the foreground of their life and her friends start being part of the background; however, men do not think like that. They do not change at all, in many cases they continue hanging out with their friends, having time to watch their favorite television program, and even to take a refreshing bath with warm water. As consequence, with all of those kind of stress, women can start getting fatigue, thing that is not good because if we get sick while our baby is still dependent of us. We have to do all the facts that I had stated before including our job without any help. • 12. Urban Land Use And Transportation Planning Question 1. This approach has several advantages. First, it provides much more spatially detailed information than traditional data at the aggregate level of planning districts. Hence, using this disaggregate information, we can suggest policy implications to establish specific land use and transportation planning. UrbanSim, one of the advanced microsimulation model developed by University of Washington, uses gridcells of 150*150 meter, which presents spatially detailed structure and enables researchers to evaluate current urban land use patterns as well as predict future urban land use change at the micro level. However, a building scale analysis provides much more benefits because it is a more realistic model and can be easily combined with current urban big data. For example, if this agent based model is combined with complex human behaviors data, it can provide much more specific information for predicting events of an emergency such as a building fire and disasters from earthquake or tsunami. Also, if this model is combined with information on spatial human activities from mobile phone, it can provide great benefits for managing spatial and temporal planning for the urban places. More specifically, we can identify hot spots during daytime and nighttime, which can help to predict travel demands as well land use demand. Second, with the building scale dataset, we can deal with a variety of urban problems and issues. For example, energy is one of the big issues in our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her scatterbrained writing style was relatable to me and so were the things she talked about. She would have been a wonderful wise woman to grab a meal with. She did not shy away from controversial topics; but instead, she introduced them. In Walking on Water L Engle sought to share the freedom available to us if we allow Jesus Christ to break us free from our chains. One of the topics that L Engle humbly addressed was the topic of legalism. I greatly appreciated this because I find that many world renowned leaders shy away from talking about it, when in reality it may be one of the enemy s most disguised tools. When people see God as an unapproachable killjoy, it becomes natural to grow distant from Him, and I know that before becoming a Christian this was the biggest stumbling block for me and I know some of the most kindhearted people cannot grasp the fact that God loves them and that He sent His one and only son to save them. L Engle also tackled the major misconception that God does not know how to laugh. He created humor and is pretty humorous himself. George MacDonald said, It is the Heart that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in His presence (131). I am learning that more and more every day. The first reason comes from the fact that Da Vinci created his own technique, and was able to make use of bright vibrant colors in his work. Another reason this painting is impressive is because of the level of emotion Da Vinci was able to convey on the faces of the Apostles. Other depictions of The Last Supper fall short of Da Vinci s painting because they can not express the intense emotion the way Da Vinci did. The Last Supper was not the first famous biblical scene , but it changed the biblical art scene because of the apostles specific expressions and the intimate feeling that they create. (Mussio 3). This includes the facial expressions that the apostles wear and body movements that they make. Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for people of different ethnicity and color made it as such. People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity from becoming more educated. Finally it was Aristotle who completely dispelled the notion that dreams were attempts at divine communication. Aristotle stated that dreams were most often fragments of the days events, and could sometimes provide insight into one s personal problems. Feminist Criticism of Frankenstein and The Yellow Wallpaper Feminism in literature has existed as early as the 16th century, the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities (Shneir, Miram). Throughout history, women have portrayed the idea of feminism in literature, with one of the most famous feminist writers being Mary Shelley. Shelley was born in 1797 into a notable family, with her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft, being a renowned feminist writer herself (Biogram). Her novelFrankensteinwas published in 1818, a time when most women were extremely conservative, and were deprived of the rights and opportunities that men held. In the novel, Shelley portrays feminism by essentially mocking women and giving them a lack of power showing how women should not be. One way Shelley mocks women in Frankenstein is the societal role she gives her female characters. This is first seen in the beginning of the novel, when young Elizabeth is presented to Victor Frankenstein in the form of a pretty present (Shelley 7), portraying Elizabeth as being in a sense a gift to Victor, causing her to be seen as inferior to him. Elizabeth s physical appearance is also frequently referred to: her golden hair, blue eyes, and thin body; but rarely are her non superficial attributes, assuming that those hold little value. Imagery In Pink Dog By Rio Di Janiero Pink is not only a clothes color for well dressed individuals with exceptional taste in clothes or for brave, courageous, stable, and smart men, it is also a color associated with sexuality and love; here, however, it is associated with dogs and Rio di Janiero. In the poem Pink Dog by Elizabeth Bishop, the speaker reveals her anxiousness of the flux of human life by presenting the metaphor of the pinkdog. The images of the Carnival, as a token of lavishness, symbolize ambiguity. The Carnival is a place of no order and reversed rules. Extravagant celebration is paralleled with the abandonment of moral principles and social hierarchy. They all want to assert themselves as leader, and because they cannot, clashes between all three characters can be seen instantly. At the beginning of the novel, Ralph and Piggy seem to be the only people on the island. Ralph does not show much interest in Piggy, but Piggy sees it as imperative that they get to know each other and find out if anyone else is on the island. Right away, Piggy s brains and common sense are exhibited. Ralph passively blows a conch they found, not with a meeting in mind but because it sounds cool. Even though Piggy had the idea of meeting, Ralph is automatically seen by everyone who comes as their leader simply because he blew the conch. This suggests that humans select their leaders based on who brought them together. Jack then comes to the assembly, already with the leadership role of head of the choir, and assumes he should be the leader of the entire group of boys. After a vote for leader between Ralph and Jack, Ralph is elected. No one ever even considers Piggy to be a candidate, even though he had the idea for an assembly and was the most passionate about setting up order on the island. Before discussing the dynamics between these characters, it must be understood what what shaped their personalities in the first place. Trying situations force people to show their true selves.
