Boniface s Influence On Frankish Society
Although addressed to Aethebald, an Anglo Saxon king, this incredibly powerful sentence by the
famous missionary Boniface, allows a glimpse into the mindset of the church regarding kingship. A
king s sin could destroy the image of God in him and make him an image of the devil instead.
Boniface, although principally working as a missionary for the Germans, also helped to reform the
Frankish Church, which had declined greatly. The Merovingian kingdom began a decline after the
death of Clovis that trickled down until the rise of the Pippinid and Arnulfling families in the sixth
century. Likewise, the church became corrupt, with little learning or any growth. The combined family
of Arnulflings and Pippinids combined to become one of the strongest ... Show more content on

The premier exercise of their authority was in legislation enacted at councils. This law was wide in
scope and expressive not only of moral ideals, but also of a fully elaborated social thought. Most
bishops in Frankish society not only held their respective bishoprics, but also extensive family land as
most came from the nobility. This aristocratic origin of most bishops was not seen by contemporaries
as an impediment to episcopal office, but rather as an appropriate background for someone who would
rule a community, in addition to governing its religious cult. Bishops, moreover, did not act as
functional equivalents of senators or nobles, but as a distinctive, cohesive group, possessing a self
conscious and unifying identity. However, that changed during the missionary wars in Germany under
Pippin II and Charlemagne. Unlike senators, bishops were ordained clerics, gave sermons, and
baptized people. They adopted a special hairstyle (tonsure) symbolically connecting them to the
asceticism of the desert and a moral code that brought them into contact with the poor and that gave
them a unique position from which to make demands on their kings (and on the poor.) However,
towards the end of the Merovingian kingdom, these same bishops proved prone to corruption and
sinful natures, similarly to how the Carolingians would also depict the Merovingians

George Washington Crossing The Delawaon Analysis
1776, the Founding Fathers took a leap of faith, challenging the King and his far superior military
forces, boasting only a ragtag army of farmers and patriots. Over 200 years, two World Wars, and a
bloody Civil War later, America sits atop the hierarchy of world powers. Despite being endlessly
doubted, questioned, and seen as an improbable idea , the the United States has been able to overcome
all odds and take a prominent position in the world because of an unyielding bold determination held
by Americans, embodied by the exaggerated details in George Washington Crossing the Delaware, the
observations in the essay A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many One, and the pathos appeal in Lincoln s
Second Inaugural Address.
This fortitude can be better understood after looking at the painting: George Washington Crossing the
Delaware, which is perhaps the most iconic artwork in American history. The illustration is an
exaggerated portrayal of Washington leading his army across the freezing Delaware River to surprise
the British. It immortalizes one of the most important events in this country s history, as it served as a
turning point in Revolution. Painter Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze depicts Washington standing tall at the
bow of the ship, knee propped up, head held high, eyes locked into focus looking ahead, sword at hip,
sheathed but ready to be drawn at any moment. Of course, some of this is not a true account, but it
was intended to illustrate the gallant dedication of Washington and

Cinema In Cinema
In modern world, the media is consumed by every individual person. This age is the called as the
digital age. There have been many transitions in the media consumption process. The history of media
is a vast subject to study on. As the technology is developed the media takes a new turn and twist in it
s consumption. There are televisions, radio, cinema, theater, social media channels like YouTube,
Instagram etc. that are the media channels to keep the audience engaged. However, new technology
based media platforms are dwelled on the base of old technologies that were the mainstream media in
older times. The audience that consumes the media plays a vital role in influencing the media. Among
all these media platforms, talking about the Cinema, there has been a huge change in the audiences
consuming this medium of entertainment. I am notably interested in the ways that however individuals
developed bound ritual uses of cinema. My intention is to research practices, bound habits and
behaviors of cinema going audience.
The cinema in 20th century has been producing as well as disseminating mass popular culture. The
cinema in 20th century is usually overlooked in number of other ways. The cinema has played a very
important role in mediatisation of the society. Looking back at the time when the first cinema was
released, there were many people who viewed it in mass. The use of a film projector and a camera
resulted in a cinema. It was the very first electronic medium

Personality And Successful Aging In The Film Wild...
For this weeks assignment I watched a 1957 Swedish movie called Wild Strawberries written and
directed by Ingram Bergman. I have not previously seen this movie and found it to be not only
appropriate for this weeks reading, but also helpful in better understanding the process of aging or at
least this movie was viewed from a different perspective today than would have been if seen in the
past, taking the aging process into consideration. In this reflective assignment the following two topics
will be discussed: stage theories of personality and successful aging as related to the film.
Wild Strawberries is a film about a 78 year old man named Isak, who is a successful and revered
retired doctor/professor. Isak is portrayed as a man who lived a lonely, cold, but success driven life.
Once nominated to receive an honorary degree from the university he attended, Isak begins to reflect
upon his life. Isak decides to drive instead of flying from Stockholm to Lund in order to receive the
award and faces many events that cause him to reflect upon his past. ... Show more content on

Through the movie, Isak reflects upon his life through daydreaming of his childhood, past love interest
and his relationship with his wife, as well as nightmares making more aware of his mortality.
Moreover, his deep discussions, though often unwanted, with his daughter in law leads him to attain
wisdom and a positive perspective of his past and ultimately his ability to find meaning in his life.
Additionally, he develops a positive relationship not only with the young hitchhikers he picked up
while driving, but most importantly his daughter in law who appeared to be seeking direction and
support from him and possibly his son, at least the movie left that impression on

Beowulf and Grendel Essay
Beowulf and Grendel
Beowulf and Grendel are actually the same stories in the fact that they are based on the same epic
Beowulf. Beowulf , that is told of here is translated by Kevin Crossley Holland, and there are many
different translations which makes Beowulf the epic so interchangeable. Although Beowulf and
Grendel seem very similar they do have many differences as well. Reading the two stories back to
back gives you the impression of how many differences there are. For example, Beowulf is written
from an outsider s point of view. Grendel is written from Grendel s point of view. This changes the
whole perception of the book. Seeing a story written from two different points of views not only helps

The stories actually differ in ways that make your feelings change about the plot. These two stories
were written during the Anglo Saxon period. Anglo Saxon was also the time of Medieval England.
Each story gives a good representation of this time. It is necessary to learn about this period in order to
get the full impact of these stories. To understand that Medieval England was very different compared
to the current time is very important before reading the two stories. In the Anglo Saxon time they had
no rights for animals, they would simply slaughter them for all the food they could eat. In today s time
there are animal rights. For example, there are animal rights activists. They believe that animals
should not be killed for food or sport. Today s societal views would have been laughed at from the
point of view of the medieval world. Today we have the luxury of being able to drive down the street,
run into the grocery store, and purchase whatever food we need. The Anglo Saxon s did not have cars
nor were there grocery stores. As for the Anglo Saxon s, they had to get their own food whatever way
possible. That meant they had to go out and kill animals for their meat, have their own gardens in
order to have. The medieval period was one of wars, fighting, and killing. In that time people were
killing other people without the consequences of jail time like there is today. They would have a little
trial type situation where the

A Research Proposal On The Civil Rights Movement
Abstract No matter varying ideas as to success, it is difficult to ignore that American culture has
undergone immense changes since the 1950s. The Civil Rights movement, the emergence of
feminism, and gay activism have literally revolutionized the society and how it functions, with many
changes going to the promotion of equality and heightened awareness of the needs of others. At the
same time, unfortunately, sexual criminality and violence remain critical issues, with women being the
primary victims. The patriarchal foundation of the society has diminished, yet norms still providing
men with entitlement remain in place, and this is a reality supported by modern research still referring
to a rape culture. This same research also presents disturbing evidence of how young college students
widely maintain norms affirming male dominance and aggression. No simple solution is then possible,
and any effective course must rely on as in depth research as may be conducted. To that end, the
following assessment of study on the subject concludes with a research proposal, and one utilizing
Structural Functionalism Theory and the innate value in interviewing students in both collective and
individual ways.
To what extent do mainstream sexuality norms impact sexual criminality? It is inescapable that
elements within a culture or society, and even of the most violent kinds, are linked to how that society
functions and how its norms influence behavior. Certainly, few if any

The Reasons For Becoming Vegetarian
When asked what being vegetarian meant to me in the past, my thoughts depicted leaf eating hippies
protesting for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Over the years I ve become more open
minded, and increased my education on the definition of a true vegetarian. A vegetarian is defined as
an individual who excludes meat and sometimes other animal products from their everyday diet. The
reasons for becoming vegetarian vary. Reasons may be health, moral, or environmentally related.
Some may choose to adopt the diet later in life; others may be born into it and carry it on throughout
their lifetime. I consider my own diet semi or flexitarian, meaning I choose to limit my meat
consumption to four or less times a week. My decision is based on the healthier eating aspect and my
own care for animals. The reason I chose this topic was to increase my knowledge of the healthy
lifestyle I call my own, and hopefully influence others to limit their meat consumption as well. I
believe a more plant based diet would benefit everyone s well being, generally promote a healthier
lifestyle, and reduce the amount of animals being raised and slaughtered. Vegetarianism is not a newly
developed concept; the plant based way of eating has been around a very long time.
Reasons For and Against Vegetarianism: Why a vegetarian diet is superior
I would like to discuss some of the articles I researched to gain a better understanding of the health
and moral aspects, as well as discuss the

Killer Whales Controversy
Everyone loves going to marine parks such as SeaWorld and Marineland. They offer many spectacular
shows with dolphins, sea lions and birds. However, the main attractions they offer are orcas, or as they
are better known as killer whales. Highly intelligent and with acute senses of sight and hearing, they
are apex predators. Recently, the possession of orcas has been a big topic of controversy. Many people
believe that the animals are being mistreated in captivity. Their captivity limits their freedom and
enjoyment. Many orcas suffer from poor physical and mental effects in captivity. Killer whales will
usually travel between 50 and 100 miles per day in the wild, but in captivity all they can do is swim in
circles or float for no reason. In the wild, killer whales live in pods of ... Show more content on

revenue in 2014. It is out of line and corrupt to benefit from the abuse of creatures. Killer whales are
the primary fascination at numerous marine parks and, without them, attendance would drop radically.
Subsequently, these facilities need to keep participation levels high by offering shows that give
amusement and permit visitors to see the creatures very close. Orcas are enduring major physical and
mental issues because of their captivity, for example, broken teeth from chewing on steel doors, dorsal
fins breaking down from absence of work out, and indications of sadness. In any case, the shows go

The Theory Of Management Theory And Practice
Conrad Hilton Sr. once said Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep
moving. They make mistakes but they don t quit (Our Hospitality Leaders, 2013). Conrad Hilton
attributes his success in business to his management philosophy of treating people fairly. Conrad was
a people oriented person, hiring and empowering his managers to make important decisions for the
hotel. He encouraged and supported his employees to provide excellent service for the travelers and
customers staying, and doing business in the hotel. This philosophy can also serve as a simplistic way
of defining management: organizing and coordinating daily business activities to achieve
organizational goals. Since the early 1900 s several methodologies have been used to explain the nuts
and bolts , and processes of management theory and practice. Throughout the evolutionary process of
management theory and practice four major schools and approaches have been identified: the classical
approach, the behavioral approach, the management science approach, and contemporary approach.
The classical approach to management is the oldest school of thought dating back to the late 1890 s
and losing favor by the 1940 s. The contributions to the classic school of management included
increasing productivity of the organization, and that of the worker, as well as providing the framework
for management of diverse organizations. This methodology was a marriage of scientific,

Coping With Hitchhikers And Couch Potatoes On Team Summary
GILTNER ENT 419 Article Review 1 `Dustin Yarbrough Coping with Hitchhikers and Couch
Potatoes on Teams This article is about coping with hitchhikers and couch potatoes on teams and how
to handle these situations. You will usually find your university teammates as interested in learning as
you are. Occasionally, however, you may encounter a person who creates difficulties. This article is
about giving practical advice for this type of situation. Imagine you have been assigned to a combined
homework and lab group this semester with three others: Mary, Henry, and Jack. Mary is okay she s
not good at solving problems, but she tries hard, and she willingly does things like get extra help from
the professor. Henry is irritating. He s a nice guy, but he just doesn t put in the effort to do a good job.

job done whatever the cost. Hitchhikers count on you to act in a self sacrificing manner. However, the
nicer you are, the more the hitchhiker will be able to hitchhike their way through the university and
through life. It s important to reflect back the dysfunctional behavior of the hitchhiker, so the

Profile of Rorschach in Alan Moore s Watchmen
Who chooses our heroes? Who watches our heroes? Who watches the Watchmen? Over the course of
history, many public figures have been scrutinized for heroic actions that some have deemed
controversial. Charles Darwin dismantled theories of Creationism with his discoveries in evolutionary
biology. President Harry Truman single handedly ended World War
II by authorizing the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, killing thousands upon
thousands of civilians. Gangster John Dillinger stole from banks all across the U.S. Midwest in the
midst of the Great Depression and was heralded by some as a modern day Robin Hood. All of these
figures share a common characteristic concerning their heroic lore: the controversy ... Show more

Even after the public saw them as disturbances to the peace of the city and the government had banned
them, Rorschach continued to serve justice. Heroes will work tirelessly to improve the greater good
even when it comes at a deadly cost to those that stand in their way. To eradicate the world of evil and
corruption is heroic, even when it jeopardizes one s well being and legacy. It is his moral absolutism
that makes Rorschach the purest hero of all the Watchmen.
To fully understand Rorschach, it is imperative to analyze the event that turned him into the fighting
vigilante that he became. During the early hours of March 13, 1964, Kitty Genovese was returning
from her job at a bar when she ran into a killer on the street a mere 100 feet from her apartment. She
was repeatedly stabbed as she yelled out to her neighbors for help; but among the thirty eight
witnesses that heard the commotion and watched the scene from their windows, not one called the
police. Kitty Genovese died from her injuries and the murder has since been thoroughly studied in
social psychology. Her extraordinary case forced the bystander effect into the academic journals and
studies of psychologists. How could there be thirty eight witnesses to this brutal murder and not one of
them informed the police? The bystander effect states that, in stressful situations, individuals are less
likely to offer aid when there are other

The Importance Of Religion In Public Education
Religion has always been a major societal force. Though it helped define, shape, and lead cultures as a
prominent component of a well rounded education in the past, in the modern day, we have discarded
religious teaching in public education in favor of progressive, accurate, practical, and provable
knowledge. Most people, including educators, students, and the parental figures of students, agree that
the best way to educate students is in such a manner. The issue, however surprising, still stands, and is
the source of big political discourse throughout the country. Some states, and some of the political
figures that drive the educational system, are in favor of continuing the in depth studies of religion in
the classroom. The people in this group vary, some prefer sticking to one religion to teach as
compared to many. The Knightly Herald s Olivia Godfrey presents this controversial topic in her
article, titled, Why Religion Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools. In the article, Godfrey defends
the idea that religion should be kept out of a public education, and that rather, religion should be left
entirely in the hands of a student s life at home. Government, be it state or federal, has no place in
having a say of what kind of religious education a student receives. It is a personal and familial matter
that differs from person to person, culture to culture. Godfrey unpacks and addresses, with the help of
appeals to common sense, and familiarity, the various perspectives

Treatment of Ethnic Minorities by Nazi Germany Essay
Treatment of Ethnic Minorities by Nazi Germany
Hitler hated three kinds of people Jews, communists and democracy and in his view they were all
connected. Hitler believed that the Aryan people were the master race, and most of theses people were
Germans. He believed that Jews were an inferior species . He believed that what the Jews believed in
was spreading and crushing Germany. Anything Jewish was wrong. He spoke of a myth that the
Jewish bankers planned to break down the financial system and that this was a reason that war broke
out in 1914.

Immediately after the Nazi takeover in 1933. Gobbels and Julius Streicher began to act violently
against the Jews openly. Gangs of brown shirts physically attacked Jews on the street and smashed
their houses. In 1934 there was a law that Jews were no longer allowed to join the civil service and
were banned from work. In 1935 the Nuremberg Race Laws created a programme of legal
persecution.
The NurembergRace Laws, 1935
* Marriage between Jews and Germans forbidden.
* Full Jews deprived of German citizenship.
* Full Jews defined as those having three Jewish grandparents.
Some Jews did fight back at this though. Groups of Jewish men who went to war told people of the

12,000 Jew s died fighting for the nation. But these little protests compared as nothing to what the
Germans did. They used propaganda to show that Jews were enemies of the Germans and were
unworthy to be called German citizens.
There was a story that a Jew had killed a German in Paris, the Nazi s started the night which was

Mexican American War Dbq
The Mexicans started the Mexican American War in 1846 because of three main reasons. One reason
was that Santa Anna, a general and president of Mexico during 1836, signed the Treaty of Velasco,
which stated that Texas was a free and independent nation, and is not a part of Mexico. When Santa
Anna returned to the capital of Mexico, he completely disregarded this treaty and claimed to have
never signed it with General Houston, even though the Texans had the papers, and claimed that Texas
was in rebellion, so he got his army ready and went after the Texans. Because of this, General Zachary

ways to become more efficient. Throughout the years they have created tools to better serve them,
created clothing to keep them warm, built homes to protect them from the elements, and produced

1.) Logical proof is a type of factual reasoning based upon real facts. These results can be found from
scenarios that have happened in the past. The seven logical proofs are sign, induction, cause,
deduction, analogies, definition, statistics. Proofs that build ethos are when the authors use credible

On the other end of the spectrum, the death of a super massive star is one of the most brilliant displays
of pure power in the universe which includes an amazing light show which has no equal. A super
massive star is exactly what it sounds like, a star so big that it dwarfs our own star in every way. When
a super massive sun begins to run out of out of hydrogen it begins to collapse, but due to its immense
gravity and size, the collapse produces such an abrupt implosion that the last remnants of nuclear
fusion remaining push all the mass of the star back out into space (Britt, 2007). This can be compared
to someone jumping onto a trampoline whose elastic has enough elasticity to force one back into the
air. This occurrence is known as a supernova explosion, which is the largest explosion in the known
universe. A supernova explosion can even be seen from other galaxies, as scientists have done
witnessed from observations using the Hubble telescope. The star is so big, however, that it only
blows its outer atmosphere away, still leaving a massive amount of matter that is doomed to collapse
again, and this time it will be a one way ticket to oblivion. The super massive star finally collapses and
its own incredible mass crushes it s internally and now turns it into a neutron star. An average neutron
star is about ten miles in diameter, or the size of Manhattan. Although this

Essay On The Movie Ikiru
In the movie, Ikiru follows the life of Kanji Watanabe, an aging bureaucrat who wants to find purpose

order to follow his passion and not follow strictly what tradition would want. In this film, the
traditional family home is absent because of the main character being a widower. Since he maintains
the role of breadwinner he has an estranged relationship with his only child as well as a generational
gap. The Japanese are very observant of ancient traditions such as Buddhism and Shintoism. Ikiru,

uniform and in Japan only 1 percent of the population is made up of non Japanese people, with the
largest minority being South Koreans. Japan is becoming very industrialized and reminds me of New

The Golden Compass Philip Pullman
Despite the variety of genres that Philip Pullman has explored from historical fiction to fantasy which
have lead to a plethora of criticism, Pullman writes enchanting tales first and foremost for his audience
s enjoyment. In an interview discussing the teaching of children s literature Pullman humbly requests
to let the children enjoy the books before doing anything else, before counting semicolons, looking at
specific adjectives etc. His books are written to enchant, delight and beguile the read to be enjoyed
after, not during. (Scholastic). Margo Jefferson praises his writing saying If you are going to preface
your books with passages from Milton, Rilke and John Ashbery, then you had better write well.
Pullman does. His prose has texture and flexibility, like excellent fabric. And he gives us so much.
Suspense of course, but such degrees of pleasure, excitement (the excitement of meeting characters,
not just adventurers) and grief (Jefferson). While he incorporates various sophisticated literary
elements in each of his pieces, his works are for those who pick up his books despite their ability to
reference Milton or the Bible. Even though he is Oxford educated like Tolkien and Lewis, his unique
upbringing has molded his writing to starkly contrast his writing from that of his colleagues. In The

The economic rationale for the method of multiple valuation method is the law of one price, i.e.,
identical assets should sell for the same price. To compute the multiple valuation method we needed to
define the peer group first. Apple, IBM and HP are not suitable because of their bigger dimension
(market capitalization, Debt, Equity and Share price). Also, to be comparable, firms need to be similar
in terms of risk, profitability, and growth. Once the comparable companies were identified, the
multiples were computed and a comparison was established between the peer group s market
capitalization and share price and those of the target company (Sun). In this context, where a company
wants to acquire another, corporate executive are interested in assessing a target s total value,
reflecting both debt (we assumed net debt in this case) and equity. In this case, the enterprise value is a
better basis for the valuation. That way we used the EV/EBITDA ratio, which resulted in a
meaningless value as Sun s EBITDA is negative. EV/Sales ratio should then be used. In fact, the
EV/Sales ratio raised the firm s valuation to $16375,51 Million against its $6198,17 Million market
capitalization. We can also use the Price Earnings (P/E) ratio, which provides an indication of how
much investors are willing to pay for a company s earnings. To

Nutty Potty Research Paper
The Squatty Potty will Revolutionize the way people go number two. The way in which the west use
the restroom is the wrong way. There are many health issues that are directly related to the posture
toilets put you in. The sitting position toilets puts you in is bad for your health. This sitting posture
often attributes to colitis, hemorrhoids, constipation, colon cancer, and appendicitis. The cause of this
directly, is the Puborectalis muscle which has the purpose of clinching the vaginal and anal orifices in

This is something that the inventor of the Squatty Potty said Physiologically, we are designed to squat.
I think a great example can be seen in children that are still in diapers who squat to poop. Many of
them then struggle to poop when sitting on training toilets because it is unnatural they instinctively
squat. The Squatty Potty has shown that using it gets the job done normally two times as fast, which
everyone would want it to go by faster. Research has shown using the Squatty Potty can also be a
noninvasive treatment for hemorrhoids, if it is continually used instead of sitting normally on the
toilet. It can also help pregnant women by relieving pressure on the uterus that would otherwise be
caused from sitting on the toilet. The Squatty Potty uses the thighs to help support the colon to prevent
pelvic organ prolapse, hernias and diverticulitis. The Squatty Potty comes in 7 to 9 for people with
different heights, it is made for everyone of all sizes. The Squatty Potty fits perfectly under most
modern toilets for little space consumption, and easy

The Effect Of Peroxidase Production On Stressed Plants Essay
This experiment used beets to determine peroxidase production in stressed plants. The purpose of this
experiment was to test if the stressed plant would produce more peroxidase in a higher concentration
than the control plant. The stressor for this experiment was watering with salt water. This stressor was
chosen because it is a natural stressor to plants; especially along the coasts and where roads are salted
in winter such as the Midwest. The control plant was watered with plain tap water while the
experimental plant was watered with tap water plus salt. The salt water concentration was 1.2341
molar. After the two week stress period the stressed plant was much smaller, wilted, and shriveled
compared to the control plant. It also had less water content overall, which made the extraction
process somewhat more challenging. To test the peroxidase production in the plants several methods
were used, including: tissue printing, DOT blot assay, electrophoretic analysis, and a
spectrophotometric assay. It was concluded that the stressed plant did produce more peroxidase than
the control plant and in a higher concentration.
Peroxidase Production in Beets Stressed with Salt Water
There are many types of peroxidases found in plants, animals, and microorganisms. The plant
peroxidase that was studied in this lab is the class III plant peroxidase (POX) (Hiraga, Sasaki, Ito,
Ohashi, Matsui, 2001). Other studies have made it known that POXs participate in lignification,

Examples Of Observation On Child Observation
Observation of Child Behaviour
1) Introduction:
The purpose of this paper is to analyse my observations of a child s development that I was able to
observe. This paper is about child observation on different domains such as Physical Development,
Language Development, Cognitive Development and Social and Emotional Development. Each
domain contains a description of child during the recorded observation.
I described below about the characteristic of the child s development. The purpose of observing the
young child is to guide and enable teachers to provide appropriate, critical guidance based on the child
needs, and to provide objective, insightful feedback and engage parents in their child s development.
2) Subject of this study
I observed a child, Trisha (coded name) of four years and three months old at the time of observation.
She is studying in Nursery 2 with 9 other children and a teacher in charge. She has a 7 year old
brother. She is Chinese and speaks in Mandarin most of the time. Trisha is 103 cm and 18 kg.
3) Method

Taking a Look at Prions
Though a relatively new institution, the realm of public health has been fairly consistent from its
conception. Using a methodology centered in evidence based, population approach health studies,
scientists have been given the means to fight and control disease around the world. Traditionally, a
communicable disease is caused by one of three foreign agents: bacteria, parasites, viruses. While
quite different, these four agents have much in common, including their adherence to Koch s germ
theory, their reliance on human hosts, and methods of transmission. In the last twenty years or so,
however, the scientific community has encountered a fifth type of pathogen that is completely
different in size, composition, and the disease it causes the prion. In its simplest form, a prion is a
protein in a misfolded form. Essentially, this protein propagates by transmitting its misfolded state to
other proteins in its host, specifically in cranial and neural tissue. The altered structure of the protein,
which constitutes the prion, is extremely stable, and cannot be denatured by chemical and physical
agents. The harm comes to the human or animal when the prions aggregate extracellularly in the
central nervous system, creating plaques and holes in the tissue diseases that are caused by prions are
known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). The recent discovery of prions, though
rare in existence, pose a serious threat to the consistency of public health and the

Deviance Examples
Reading Reflection Number One: The Good, the Bad, and the Change of Deviance GO TO JAIL: Go
directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Community chest, Monopoly. Unlike board
games, deviance in life is extremely complex. It is not as simple as picking up of an unwanted card,
and is certainly not as of straightforward as spending three turns in jail. Instead, in society today,
deviance is portrayed over many different situations, and it arises for many contrasting reasons based
on society s opinions and views. However, over time society s thoughts and assessments change
leading to a transformation of deviant behavior. First and foremost, there are many devenant actions
that over time go through a moral passage. A moral passage is defined as a change of society s
viewing on a deviant behavior. Simply, a once seemed deviant act becomes socially acceptable. This
change can come about for many different reasons usually ending with the majority of people coming
to an agreement that the act is not worth the demming of deviance. The most common examples of
this is the change of the law of achole. However, there are many other examples of acts deemed
socially acceptable with in time. Most recently, being a homosexual has become in the social norm as
well as even within legal rights. There are many examples of deviant behaviors becoming less deviant
and even considered within the social norm. Further, there are many social norms that over time seem

According to one Swedish study, the risk of acoustic neuroma (a tumor formation

Using a cell phone while driving, even with a hands free device, is unsafe and can make
accidents more likely. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
estimates that driving distractions, including the use of cell phones, contribute to 25% of
all traffic crashes. [14] 4. The radio frequency (RF) emissions from cell phones have been shown to

genetic material in blood cells which is a common precursor to cancer. [15] 5. Driving while talking
on a cell phone is as dangerous as driving drunk. According to
researchers at the University of Utah people who drive while talking on their cell phones
are as impaired as drunk drivers with a blood alcohol level of 0.08%. [16] 6. Children are at an
increased risk for adverse health effects from cell phone radiation. One
study has shown that children under the age of eight absorb twice the amount of radiation
into their brain tissue as adults due to their lower skull thickness. [17] 7. The radiofrequency radiation

Gay People In North Carolina
Yes, there are LGBTQ people in North Carolina. Contrary to popular belief from the previous
governor Patrick McCrory and the general heteronormativity of the state, LGBTQ people go about
their everyday lives in North Carolina. But while non straight people exist beyond Manhattan, Los
Angeles, and San Francisco, they exist in a different, more suppressed manner. There are fewer pride
rallies, brunches, and general gay outings, and that is why the mural of Brandy Alexander the drag
queen, not the cocktail means so much to the North Carolina LGBTQ community. Cities are and have

Encompassing the entire wall of a building, Brandy Alexander looks strong and daunting. With her
chin held high and left arm extended, Brandy looks as if she is ready to go into battle; and she is. She
is ready to continue the fight for LGBT rights. With an equality sign painted under her left eye as if it
were an eye black strip or war paint, Brandy is ready for combat. The hand of justice tops off her
scepter, and her pearl neckless appears to be blowing in the wind imagine Brandy standing on a crag,
wind blowing against her, ready to lead her army into battle. A broken shackle falls from her left wrist,
and her glamourous pearl necklace features an all gender bathroom logo, both implying a sense of
owning her oppression.
But most importantly, Brandy wears earrings with former Governor Patrick McCrory s face on them.
As the ultimate expression of her ownership over the situation, Brandy does not let McCrory
intimidate her, but rather she uses him as an accessory. Rather than acting as an intimidating force,
McCrory is merely an accessory that Brandy Alexander chose to use. The earrings act as a blatant
statement from the artists that the LGBTQ community will not be scared by or back down from
McCrory and his laws.
Swirling blues, yellows, and whites give the mural a sense of happiness and joy. Instead of using dark
colors to represent the dismal situation, the piece focuses on the

Soundtrack To Music Research Paper
Why music is the soundtrack to life
Music is interpreted differently from around the world but to me, music is motivational and inspiring.
It s a way to express emotions and a language that cannot be put into words. Music creates an avenue
for empathy and a new understanding and it is part of my lifestyle. Music always gives you company
when you are bored or in the shower. It gives a meaning and purpose to life. Music is important
because it is the key to creativity.
Many creative geniuses such as Mozart and Albert Einstein showed us that listening to and creating
music, exercises one s creativity and intellect because it requires maximum right brain usage. Music

In recent tests scientists found that music could reduce the perceived intensity of pain. It can also ease
stress before and after a patient has surgery. This is why many hospitals use musical therapy. Music
can additionally have good effects on your mood such as relieving stress, reducing symptoms of
anxiety and depression, and elevating your mood. It can help in high stress situations such as exams
and give you a better cognitive performance. When you go to the gym you will find that there is music
playing and this is usually because it improves running and biking motivation and increases workout
endurance. Additionally it can help your body recover faster after exercising. This is because it
enhances your blood vessel function. Other positive outcomes of music can include better memory,
helping people eat less and improved sleep quality. As well as positive physical effects there are also
positive emotional and mental effects of music. One of the most famous ones is the Mozart effect. If
somebody listens to Mozart s music they may likely have a short improvement on spatial temporal
reasoning. Spatial temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize the instruments played in a song and
the musical notation.
In conclusion, music is an important motivation for creativity and inspiration. It is a way we can
express ourselves without having to say anything, it is a hobby or a pastime.

Sentimentality Of William Tavener Analysis
In Sentimentality of William Tavener the events of the plot are ordered in chronological order with
brief flashbacks. The story is about a family who lives in the middle of nowhere. The kids of the
family work hard on the farm every day and the mother believes that they should have a break to go to
the circus. The husband and wife did not have a very loving relationship, so the mother was always
defensive on the topic of her sons: the main cause of the majority of their disagreements. The mother
went into detail on how much fun her experience was as a child. The husband corrects her on one of
the animals that she had mistaken for something else. They then got into the discussion of certain
elements of the circus. The topic of the circus soon changed to more recent, topics. The husband and
wife connected again and the mother announced that the boys could go to the fair. She took into
consideration how the father would feel and took up for him by saying that he earned his money by ...

Essay about apeuro dbq on the poor
The Europeans between the 1450 s and 1700 s held many negative attitudes towards the poor
themselves and the idlers who they believed were a menace to society. Also during this time period the
Europeans had many responses like in England where they put them in poorhouses or tried to heal
them or in others places where they tried to give them alms.
During this time period many Europeans held negative attitudes toward helping the poor due to the
idle and lazy who go around begging as if they are poor. Emperor Charles V in a royal decree wrote
how indiscriminately giving alms will result in idleness which is the root of all evils (Document 4).

Many European felt that idlers were mooching off them and taking away alms from the poor who
actually couldn t get jobs due to illness causing a distaste of them by the Europeans.
Even though many Europeans saw only the idlers as the problems, many others had negative attitudes
to all poor people. Juan Luis Vives who was a Spanish humanist wrote in, On Assistance to the Poor,
that when a family becomes poor that the men begin to steal, the women become prostitutes, and their
children grow up and become accustomed to this lifestyle while those with money believe the poor to
not deserve their alms (Document 3). The POV of Vives is that of a humanist who feels they know the
deeper meaning of all human, and he sees them as deplorable creatures who when pushed against a
wall become thieving animals while those with money don t even try to better these poor peoples lives
by thinking that the poor don t deserve their charity. Jean Maillefer, a wealthy French merchant, wrote
to his children that the poor have grown accustom to being poor and they cannot leave due to them
having no cares, bills, and fears while they feel great independence (Document 11). Maillefer s POV is
that the poor have no worries and are independent because they have no job which comes from him

The Journey Of Reconciliation And The Freedom Rides
In the books, A Nation Forged in War: How World War II Taught Americans to Get Along by Thomas
Bruscino and Freedom s Main Line: The Journey of Reconciliation and the Freedom Rides by Derek
Charles Catsam, both focus on the subject of racism, religious tolerance, and segregation. Although
both books deal with the same topic the authors have different opinions toward what was the cause of
the beginning of bringing these matters to an end. These are a few of the reasons the authors give for
their opinions on the subject. Throughout A Nation Forged in War Thomas Bruscino states his belief
that the rise of ethnic tolerance was due to military service during World War II. His first piece of
evidence he uses for this claim is that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They listened to hearts, checked feet, examined buttocks, and took urine specimens. Although many
men felt this process was a horrible event that stripped them of their dignity it did have the positive
outcome of bringing these men of different ethnicities and religions together. In Freedom s Main Line,
Derek Catsam argues that the most important battle for civl rights was segregated transportation. The
first piece of evidence Catsam provides for this statement is that segregated transportation sparked the
beginning of the freedom riders. The Freedom Riders were a group of civil rights activists who would
ride interstate buses into the segregated southern United States beginning in 1961. Their reason for
beginning this act was to challenge the lack of enforcement of the United States Supreme Court s
decision that segregated buses were unconstitutional. Another piece of evidence he details is the
numerous amounts of cases brought to the supreme court due to segregated transportation, some of the
cases being Brown v. Board, Morgan v. Virginia, and Boynton v. Virginia. The Brown v. Board case
was a landmark United States Supreme court case in which the court established state laws declaring
that separate public schools for white and black students was unconstitutional. The Morgan v. Virginia
case was a major United States Supreme Court case that

Goldilocks Affirmative Defense
Goldilocks has admitted to having committed the act of murder and burglary, however, she asserts
affirmative defenses that would exonerate her actions from criminal liability. Affirmative dense brings
to light danger for the defense because once admitting the act the defendants have the burden to, start
matters off by putting in some evidence in support of their justification or excuse defenses (Samaha,
2011). In addition, the burden of production will shift to the defense and it is now the prosecution s
job to cause doubt upon the defense s case. In Goldilocks case of a justification defense this would
involve her use of self defense and its necessity being that under the circumstances, it was the right
thing to do (Samaha, 2011). Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For an attack to be considered self defense it must apply to four requirements. The first is unprovoked
attacks in which the defender has to have not started or provoked the attack. In Goldilocks case this is
held because she was attempting to leave when Prince Charming saw and forcibly locked her inside.
The second requirement is necessity which is, also known as the choice of evils, reflects popular
moral intuitions and common sense: sometimes, breaking the rules is the right indeed, the only thing
to do in order to avoid a greater evil (Bergelson, 2012). In Goldilocks case this choice of evils was a
fact in both acts the burglary where she was given a choice to either starve to death or break into a
home so she can eat. The other instance was the Prince Charming reaching for his walking stick that
he uses to constantly physically abuse her and the choice to defend herself. The third element of self
defense is proportionality which is the ability of a defender to use deadly force if no deadly force is
not enough to repel the oncoming attack with no excessive force (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case
Prince Charming is not only bigger and stronger than her she was in no state where she could run
away or hide she had no choice. The last requirement is reasonable belief which is the belief that it
was necessary to use deadly force to repel the imminent deadly attack (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks
case she was in a position where she was going to have to fight for her life and the only way should
would have made it out alive was by using the

  • 2. Boniface s Influence On Frankish Society Although addressed to Aethebald, an Anglo Saxon king, this incredibly powerful sentence by the famous missionary Boniface, allows a glimpse into the mindset of the church regarding kingship. A king s sin could destroy the image of God in him and make him an image of the devil instead. Boniface, although principally working as a missionary for the Germans, also helped to reform the Frankish Church, which had declined greatly. The Merovingian kingdom began a decline after the death of Clovis that trickled down until the rise of the Pippinid and Arnulfling families in the sixth century. Likewise, the church became corrupt, with little learning or any growth. The combined family of Arnulflings and Pippinids combined to become one of the strongest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The premier exercise of their authority was in legislation enacted at councils. This law was wide in scope and expressive not only of moral ideals, but also of a fully elaborated social thought. Most bishops in Frankish society not only held their respective bishoprics, but also extensive family land as most came from the nobility. This aristocratic origin of most bishops was not seen by contemporaries as an impediment to episcopal office, but rather as an appropriate background for someone who would rule a community, in addition to governing its religious cult. Bishops, moreover, did not act as functional equivalents of senators or nobles, but as a distinctive, cohesive group, possessing a self conscious and unifying identity. However, that changed during the missionary wars in Germany under Pippin II and Charlemagne. Unlike senators, bishops were ordained clerics, gave sermons, and baptized people. They adopted a special hairstyle (tonsure) symbolically connecting them to the asceticism of the desert and a moral code that brought them into contact with the poor and that gave them a unique position from which to make demands on their kings (and on the poor.) However, towards the end of the Merovingian kingdom, these same bishops proved prone to corruption and sinful natures, similarly to how the Carolingians would also depict the Merovingians ... • 3. George Washington Crossing The Delawaon Analysis 1776, the Founding Fathers took a leap of faith, challenging the King and his far superior military forces, boasting only a ragtag army of farmers and patriots. Over 200 years, two World Wars, and a bloody Civil War later, America sits atop the hierarchy of world powers. Despite being endlessly doubted, questioned, and seen as an improbable idea , the the United States has been able to overcome all odds and take a prominent position in the world because of an unyielding bold determination held by Americans, embodied by the exaggerated details in George Washington Crossing the Delaware, the observations in the essay A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many One, and the pathos appeal in Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address. This fortitude can be better understood after looking at the painting: George Washington Crossing the Delaware, which is perhaps the most iconic artwork in American history. The illustration is an exaggerated portrayal of Washington leading his army across the freezing Delaware River to surprise the British. It immortalizes one of the most important events in this country s history, as it served as a turning point in Revolution. Painter Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze depicts Washington standing tall at the bow of the ship, knee propped up, head held high, eyes locked into focus looking ahead, sword at hip, sheathed but ready to be drawn at any moment. Of course, some of this is not a true account, but it was intended to illustrate the gallant dedication of Washington and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Cinema In Cinema In modern world, the media is consumed by every individual person. This age is the called as the digital age. There have been many transitions in the media consumption process. The history of media is a vast subject to study on. As the technology is developed the media takes a new turn and twist in it s consumption. There are televisions, radio, cinema, theater, social media channels like YouTube, Instagram etc. that are the media channels to keep the audience engaged. However, new technology based media platforms are dwelled on the base of old technologies that were the mainstream media in older times. The audience that consumes the media plays a vital role in influencing the media. Among all these media platforms, talking about the Cinema, there has been a huge change in the audiences consuming this medium of entertainment. I am notably interested in the ways that however individuals developed bound ritual uses of cinema. My intention is to research practices, bound habits and behaviors of cinema going audience. The cinema in 20th century has been producing as well as disseminating mass popular culture. The cinema in 20th century is usually overlooked in number of other ways. The cinema has played a very important role in mediatisation of the society. Looking back at the time when the first cinema was released, there were many people who viewed it in mass. The use of a film projector and a camera resulted in a cinema. It was the very first electronic medium ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Personality And Successful Aging In The Film Wild... For this weeks assignment I watched a 1957 Swedish movie called Wild Strawberries written and directed by Ingram Bergman. I have not previously seen this movie and found it to be not only appropriate for this weeks reading, but also helpful in better understanding the process of aging or at least this movie was viewed from a different perspective today than would have been if seen in the past, taking the aging process into consideration. In this reflective assignment the following two topics will be discussed: stage theories of personality and successful aging as related to the film. Wild Strawberries is a film about a 78 year old man named Isak, who is a successful and revered retired doctor/professor. Isak is portrayed as a man who lived a lonely, cold, but success driven life. Once nominated to receive an honorary degree from the university he attended, Isak begins to reflect upon his life. Isak decides to drive instead of flying from Stockholm to Lund in order to receive the award and faces many events that cause him to reflect upon his past. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the movie, Isak reflects upon his life through daydreaming of his childhood, past love interest and his relationship with his wife, as well as nightmares making more aware of his mortality. Moreover, his deep discussions, though often unwanted, with his daughter in law leads him to attain wisdom and a positive perspective of his past and ultimately his ability to find meaning in his life. Additionally, he develops a positive relationship not only with the young hitchhikers he picked up while driving, but most importantly his daughter in law who appeared to be seeking direction and support from him and possibly his son, at least the movie left that impression on ... • 6. Beowulf and Grendel Essay Beowulf and Grendel Beowulf and Grendel are actually the same stories in the fact that they are based on the same epic Beowulf. Beowulf , that is told of here is translated by Kevin Crossley Holland, and there are many different translations which makes Beowulf the epic so interchangeable. Although Beowulf and Grendel seem very similar they do have many differences as well. Reading the two stories back to back gives you the impression of how many differences there are. For example, Beowulf is written from an outsider s point of view. Grendel is written from Grendel s point of view. This changes the whole perception of the book. Seeing a story written from two different points of views not only helps you to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stories actually differ in ways that make your feelings change about the plot. These two stories were written during the Anglo Saxon period. Anglo Saxon was also the time of Medieval England. Each story gives a good representation of this time. It is necessary to learn about this period in order to get the full impact of these stories. To understand that Medieval England was very different compared to the current time is very important before reading the two stories. In the Anglo Saxon time they had no rights for animals, they would simply slaughter them for all the food they could eat. In today s time there are animal rights. For example, there are animal rights activists. They believe that animals should not be killed for food or sport. Today s societal views would have been laughed at from the point of view of the medieval world. Today we have the luxury of being able to drive down the street, run into the grocery store, and purchase whatever food we need. The Anglo Saxon s did not have cars nor were there grocery stores. As for the Anglo Saxon s, they had to get their own food whatever way possible. That meant they had to go out and kill animals for their meat, have their own gardens in order to have. The medieval period was one of wars, fighting, and killing. In that time people were killing other people without the consequences of jail time like there is today. • 7. A Research Proposal On The Civil Rights Movement Abstract No matter varying ideas as to success, it is difficult to ignore that American culture has undergone immense changes since the 1950s. The Civil Rights movement, the emergence of feminism, and gay activism have literally revolutionized the society and how it functions, with many changes going to the promotion of equality and heightened awareness of the needs of others. At the same time, unfortunately, sexual criminality and violence remain critical issues, with women being the primary victims. The patriarchal foundation of the society has diminished, yet norms still providing men with entitlement remain in place, and this is a reality supported by modern research still referring to a rape culture. This same research also presents disturbing evidence of how young college students widely maintain norms affirming male dominance and aggression. No simple solution is then possible, and any effective course must rely on as in depth research as may be conducted. To that end, the following assessment of study on the subject concludes with a research proposal, and one utilizing Structural Functionalism Theory and the innate value in interviewing students in both collective and individual ways. To what extent do mainstream sexuality norms impact sexual criminality? It is inescapable that elements within a culture or society, and even of the most violent kinds, are linked to how that society functions and how its norms influence behavior. Certainly, few if any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Reasons For Becoming Vegetarian When asked what being vegetarian meant to me in the past, my thoughts depicted leaf eating hippies protesting for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals). Over the years I ve become more open minded, and increased my education on the definition of a true vegetarian. A vegetarian is defined as an individual who excludes meat and sometimes other animal products from their everyday diet. The reasons for becoming vegetarian vary. Reasons may be health, moral, or environmentally related. Some may choose to adopt the diet later in life; others may be born into it and carry it on throughout their lifetime. I consider my own diet semi or flexitarian, meaning I choose to limit my meat consumption to four or less times a week. My decision is based on the healthier eating aspect and my own care for animals. The reason I chose this topic was to increase my knowledge of the healthy lifestyle I call my own, and hopefully influence others to limit their meat consumption as well. I believe a more plant based diet would benefit everyone s well being, generally promote a healthier lifestyle, and reduce the amount of animals being raised and slaughtered. Vegetarianism is not a newly developed concept; the plant based way of eating has been around a very long time. Reasons For and Against Vegetarianism: Why a vegetarian diet is superior I would like to discuss some of the articles I researched to gain a better understanding of the health and moral aspects, as well as discuss the ... • 9. Killer Whales Controversy Everyone loves going to marine parks such as SeaWorld and Marineland. They offer many spectacular shows with dolphins, sea lions and birds. However, the main attractions they offer are orcas, or as they are better known as killer whales. Highly intelligent and with acute senses of sight and hearing, they are apex predators. Recently, the possession of orcas has been a big topic of controversy. Many people believe that the animals are being mistreated in captivity. Their captivity limits their freedom and enjoyment. Many orcas suffer from poor physical and mental effects in captivity. Killer whales will usually travel between 50 and 100 miles per day in the wild, but in captivity all they can do is swim in circles or float for no reason. In the wild, killer whales live in pods of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2013, a documentary about killer whales in captivity, particularly Tilikum was released to the public. Blackfish garnered critical acclaim and people were influenced by the movie. Parks all over the world were impacted by the film, but mainly SeaWorld. The company lost 15 million dollars in revenue in 2014. It is out of line and corrupt to benefit from the abuse of creatures. Killer whales are the primary fascination at numerous marine parks and, without them, attendance would drop radically. Subsequently, these facilities need to keep participation levels high by offering shows that give amusement and permit visitors to see the creatures very close. • 10. The Theory Of Management Theory And Practice Conrad Hilton Sr. once said Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes but they don t quit (Our Hospitality Leaders, 2013). Conrad Hilton attributes his success in business to his management philosophy of treating people fairly. Conrad was a people oriented person, hiring and empowering his managers to make important decisions for the hotel. He encouraged and supported his employees to provide excellent service for the travelers and customers staying, and doing business in the hotel. This philosophy can also serve as a simplistic way of defining management: organizing and coordinating daily business activities to achieve organizational goals. Since the early 1900 s several methodologies have been used to explain the nuts and bolts , and processes of management theory and practice. Throughout the evolutionary process of management theory and practice four major schools and approaches have been identified: the classical approach, the behavioral approach, the management science approach, and contemporary approach. The classical approach to management is the oldest school of thought dating back to the late 1890 s and losing favor by the 1940 s. The contributions to the classic school of management included increasing productivity of the organization, and that of the worker, as well as providing the framework for management of diverse organizations. This methodology was a marriage of scientific, administrative, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Coping With Hitchhikers And Couch Potatoes On Team Summary GILTNER ENT 419 Article Review 1 `Dustin Yarbrough Coping with Hitchhikers and Couch Potatoes on Teams This article is about coping with hitchhikers and couch potatoes on teams and how to handle these situations. You will usually find your university teammates as interested in learning as you are. Occasionally, however, you may encounter a person who creates difficulties. This article is about giving practical advice for this type of situation. Imagine you have been assigned to a combined homework and lab group this semester with three others: Mary, Henry, and Jack. Mary is okay she s not good at solving problems, but she tries hard, and she willingly does things like get extra help from the professor. Henry is irritating. Hitchhikers count on you to act in a self sacrificing manner. However, the nicer you are, the more the hitchhiker will be able to hitchhike their way through the university and through life. It s important to reflect back the dysfunctional behavior of the hitchhiker, so the hitchhiker pays the price not you. Never accept accusations, blame, or criticism from a hitchhiker. Maintain your own sense of reality despite what the hitchhiker says. Show you have a bottom line: there are limits to the behavior you will accept. It arranges alleged acts of racism and profiling against Carter. Bob Dylan describes as leading to a false trial and conviction. Rubin Carter and John Artis were charged with a triple murder at the Lafayette Grill in Paterson, New Jersey in 1966. Over the course of history, many public figures have been scrutinized for heroic actions that some have deemed controversial. Charles Darwin dismantled theories of Creationism with his discoveries in evolutionary biology. President Harry Truman single handedly ended World War II by authorizing the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, killing thousands upon thousands of civilians. • 14. The Importance Of Religion In Public Education Religion has always been a major societal force. Though it helped define, shape, and lead cultures as a prominent component of a well rounded education in the past, in the modern day, we have discarded religious teaching in public education in favor of progressive, accurate, practical, and provable knowledge. Most people, including educators, students, and the parental figures of students, agree that the best way to educate students is in such a manner. The issue, however surprising, still stands, and is the source of big political discourse throughout the country. Some states, and some of the political figures that drive the educational system, are in favor of continuing the in depth studies of religion in the classroom. The people in this group vary, some prefer sticking to one religion to teach as compared to many. The Knightly Herald s Olivia Godfrey presents this controversial topic in her article, titled, Why Religion Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools. In the article, Godfrey defends the idea that religion should be kept out of a public education, and that rather, religion should be left entirely in the hands of a student s life at home. Government, be it state or federal, has no place in having a say of what kind of religious education a student receives. It is a personal and familial matter that differs from person to person, culture to culture. When Santa Anna returned to the capital of Mexico, he completely disregarded this treaty and claimed to have never signed it with General Houston, even though the Texans had the papers, and claimed that Texas was in rebellion, so he got his army ready and went after the Texans. A super massive star is exactly what it sounds like, a star so big that it dwarfs our own star in every way. When a super massive sun begins to run out of out of hydrogen it begins to collapse, but due to its immense gravity and size, the collapse produces such an abrupt implosion that the last remnants of nuclear fusion remaining push all the mass of the star back out into space (Britt, 2007). This can be compared to someone jumping onto a trampoline whose elastic has enough elasticity to force one back into the air. The economic rationale for the method of multiple valuation method is the law of one price, i.e., identical assets should sell for the same price. To compute the multiple valuation method we needed to define the peer group first. Apple, IBM and HP are not suitable because of their bigger dimension (market capitalization, Debt, Equity and Share price). Also, to be comparable, firms need to be similar in terms of risk, profitability, and growth. Once the comparable companies were identified, the multiples were computed and a comparison was established between the peer group s market capitalization and share price and those of the target company (Sun). In this context, where a company wants to acquire another, corporate executive are interested in assessing a target s total value, reflecting both debt (we assumed net debt in this case) and equity. In this case, the enterprise value is a better basis for the valuation. That way we used the EV/EBITDA ratio, which resulted in a meaningless value as Sun s EBITDA is negative. EV/Sales ratio should then be used. In fact, the EV/Sales ratio raised the firm s valuation to $16375,51 Million against its $6198,17 Million market capitalization. The purpose of this experiment was to test if the stressed plant would produce more peroxidase in a higher concentration than the control plant. The stressor for this experiment was watering with salt water. This stressor was chosen because it is a natural stressor to plants; especially along the coasts and where roads are salted in winter such as the Midwest. The control plant was watered with plain tap water while the experimental plant was watered with tap water plus salt. The salt water concentration was 1.2341 molar. After the two week stress period the stressed plant was much smaller, wilted, and shriveled compared to the control plant. It also had less water content overall, which made the extraction process somewhat more challenging. To test the peroxidase production in the plants several methods were used, including: tissue printing, DOT blot assay, electrophoretic analysis, and a spectrophotometric assay. Using a methodology centered in evidence based, population approach health studies, scientists have been given the means to fight and control disease around the world. Traditionally, a communicable disease is caused by one of three foreign agents: bacteria, parasites, viruses. While quite different, these four agents have much in common, including their adherence to Koch s germ theory, their reliance on human hosts, and methods of transmission. In the last twenty years or so, however, the scientific community has encountered a fifth type of pathogen that is completely different in size, composition, and the disease it causes the prion. In its simplest form, a prion is a protein in a misfolded form. Essentially, this protein propagates by transmitting its misfolded state to other proteins in its host, specifically in cranial and neural tissue. The altered structure of the protein, which constitutes the prion, is extremely stable, and cannot be denatured by chemical and physical agents. The harm comes to the human or animal when the prions aggregate extracellularly in the central nervous system, creating plaques and holes in the tissue diseases that are caused by prions are known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). The Journey Of Reconciliation And The Freedom Rides In the books, A Nation Forged in War: How World War II Taught Americans to Get Along by Thomas Bruscino and Freedom s Main Line: The Journey of Reconciliation and the Freedom Rides by Derek Charles Catsam, both focus on the subject of racism, religious tolerance, and segregation. Although both books deal with the same topic the authors have different opinions toward what was the cause of the beginning of bringing these matters to an end. These are a few of the reasons the authors give for their opinions on the subject. Throughout A Nation Forged in War Thomas Bruscino states his belief that the rise of ethnic tolerance was due to military service during World War II. His first piece of evidence he uses for this claim is that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They listened to hearts, checked feet, examined buttocks, and took urine specimens. Although many men felt this process was a horrible event that stripped them of their dignity it did have the positive outcome of bringing these men of different ethnicities and religions together. In Freedom s Main Line, Derek Catsam argues that the most important battle for civl rights was segregated transportation. The first piece of evidence Catsam provides for this statement is that segregated transportation sparked the beginning of the freedom riders. The Freedom Riders were a group of civil rights activists who would ride interstate buses into the segregated southern United States beginning in 1961. Their reason for beginning this act was to challenge the lack of enforcement of the United States Supreme Court s decision that segregated buses were unconstitutional. Another piece of evidence he details is the numerous amounts of cases brought to the supreme court due to segregated transportation, some of the cases being Brown v. Board, Morgan v. Virginia, and Boynton v. Virginia. The Brown v. Board case was a landmark United States Supreme court case in which the court established state laws declaring that separate public schools for white and black students was unconstitutional. Goldilocks Affirmative Defense Goldilocks has admitted to having committed the act of murder and burglary, however, she asserts affirmative defenses that would exonerate her actions from criminal liability. Affirmative dense brings to light danger for the defense because once admitting the act the defendants have the burden to, start matters off by putting in some evidence in support of their justification or excuse defenses (Samaha, 2011). In addition, the burden of production will shift to the defense and it is now the prosecution s job to cause doubt upon the defense s case. In Goldilocks case of a justification defense this would involve her use of self defense and its necessity being that under the circumstances, it was the right thing to do (Samaha, 2011). Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For an attack to be considered self defense it must apply to four requirements. The first is unprovoked attacks in which the defender has to have not started or provoked the attack. In Goldilocks case this is held because she was attempting to leave when Prince Charming saw and forcibly locked her inside. The second requirement is necessity which is, also known as the choice of evils, reflects popular moral intuitions and common sense: sometimes, breaking the rules is the right indeed, the only thing to do in order to avoid a greater evil (Bergelson, 2012). In Goldilocks case this choice of evils was a fact in both acts the burglary where she was given a choice to either starve to death or break into a home so she can eat. The other instance was the Prince Charming reaching for his walking stick that he uses to constantly physically abuse her and the choice to defend herself. The third element of self defense is proportionality which is the ability of a defender to use deadly force if no deadly force is not enough to repel the oncoming attack with no excessive force (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case Prince Charming is not only bigger and stronger than her she was in no state where she could run away or hide she had no choice. The last requirement is reasonable belief which is the belief that it was necessary to use deadly force to repel the imminent deadly attack (Samaha, 2011). In Goldilocks case she was in a position where she was going to have to fight for her life and the only way should would have made it out alive was by using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
