Boo Radley Lessons
To kill A Mockingbird, the title itself is a literal sense, a mockingbird is one of the few birds that does
not bring harm or foul to any creature or crop but is a good natured creature. Harper Lee introduces
many lessons throughout the book and goes deep in the children s minds during the time period they
live in. The south in the 1930s is of course very racially driven, Harper Lee explores what it is like as
a child to grow up and through their innocent minds, the book explores their thoughts and feelings. As
for children, adults are represented and their attitude towards race and status which truly creates a
sophisticated piece of literature in thee end. In the beginning we learn the Atticus has a daughter

distress about the fate of Tom who eventually is shot 17 times all for being of a different color in the

Description Of Puerto Rico
The University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez (UPRM) was founded in 1911 and received full
accreditation in 1946. Located in the tropical climate of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, it is the only
Hispanic sea grant and land grant institution within the United States. The native language of Puerto
Rico is Spanish; however, the campus is bilingual and offers instruction in both English and Spanish.
The university is known to Spanish speakers as Recinto Universitario de Mayaguez (RUM), and
affectionately known as El Colegio by students and faculty.
Situated on approximately 300 acres, the campus has a variety of gardens, agricultural research fields,

A Study On Molecular Reactions
A majority of biochemical reactions require enzymes. Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up
reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and
hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other
reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzyme works is by conducting an enzyme assay. An
enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration
of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said,
the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the
concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work.
For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p
Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of
the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in
absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing
absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=ɛlc) to quantify how much product is
produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase
(ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a
particular molecule. To do this,

Essay on The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad
The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad
For an increasing number of women in the United States, a concern or preoccupation with body
weight and size is a constant pressure. Female athletes, like most women in our society, are also often
pressured to conform to certain ideal body sizes and shapes, as dictated by the entertainment and
fashion industries. Female athletes, however, face a twofold pressure. They face the burden that our
culture places on all women to be thin, but they also face the burden from coaches, parents, and other
athletes to succeed in sports and look good doing so by maintaining an unrealistically low weight.
When weight gain means removal from a team or elimination from competition, many female athletes

This term refers to a wide range of abnormal behaviors, the extremes of which are anorexia nervosa
and bulimia nervosa, but also includes limiting caloric intake, skipping meals, using diet pills, and
many other pathogenic weight control behaviors. Having stated these limitations, there are a number
of studies which do in fact indicate that female athletes struggle more with eating disorders than
average females. Studies report that the rate of disordered eating among female athletes may be as
high as 62% in certain sports (Yeager, Agostini, Nattiv, and Drinkwater, 1993). While a study of
college female swimmers found 15.4% were affected, a study of college gymnasts showed that 62% of
collegiate female athletes had seriously abnormal eating patterns. Smith (1996) found that disordered
eating is most common among those in appearance sports, such as gymnastics, ballet, figure skating,
equestrian sports, and diving. However, disordered eating behavior can be seen in other sports in
which appearance is not as important, such as tennis, swimming, and running. Skolnick (1993) also
notes that another study of 182 female athletes, who participated in a variety of college sports, found
that 32% showed disordered eating patterns. Margot Putukian, MD (1998) reports in Clinics in Sports
Medicine that a study of college athletes found 32% practiced some form of pathogenic weight control
behavior, and 70% believed their behavior was harmless.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY: Research methodology is a way to systematically solve the research
problem. Research methodology not only talks of the research methods but also consider the logic
behind the methods we use in the context of our research study and explain why we are using a
particular method or technique and why we are not using others so that research results are capable of

the arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to combine
relevance to the research purpose with economy in procedure . The researcher has used Descriptive
research Design for the study. A descriptive research is fact finding investigation with adequate
interpretation. It is the simplest type of research. It is more specific than an exploratory study, as it has

Maternal Instinct in The Turn of the Screw Essay
Henry James The Turn of the Screw is one of the more disputed texts in all of literature, as it is
famously known as an ambiguous text. The primary uncertain element of is whether there are ghosts
scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane. Even though
a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are much more black
and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to normal. There are three
key relationships in The Turn of the Screw: the Governess and Mrs. Grose, the Governess and Miles,
and the governess and Flora. All of these relationships show how the governess s maternal instinct
influences her interactions and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real
possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way she
can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going on.
Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between the
governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the story, the
governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora along with her to
go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have just left Flora at Bly
manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However, since the governess is new,
she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things work. Therefore, the governess
probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring
her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal instinct. A second example of the governess
exercising her maternal relationship can be found on page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene,
the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that
Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had
been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply, it was the

Conception Of A Feral Child
A feral child is a child who has been in isolation from human contact from a very young age. They
have little or no experience of human care, behavior, or have little knowledge of human language.
This therefore hinders their development of human social skills. Some feral children have been
confined, a lot of times it would be by their own parents. In some cases, child abandonment occurs
due to the parents rejection of a child s severe intellectual or physical impairment. Feral children
experience a lot of things including: severe abuse or trauma before being abandoned or before they ran
away. Feral children are sometimes subjects of traditional art, myths and literature like the boy in the
Jungle Book story. In these stories they are portrayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

She even walked on four legs as a dog does and sniffed out her food before she ate it. When

I No Longer Recommend Psychiatric Medication
I no longer recommend psychiatric medications to anyone. I believe the science behind this is
seriously flawed. It is based on false assumptions that lead to self perpetuating mythology (and huge
profits for drug companies). (Smith). While it may sound appealing to simply take a pill for each of
your problems, it has almost become common knowledge that medications which directly affect the
brain, especially in the long term, can have many direct and indirect consequences. Nearly ¼ of all
Americans are diagnosed with either a personality disorder or as, and are prescribed some type of
psychiatric medication. The three most popular antipsychotics alone are a $15 billion industry, with
stimulants and antidepressants nearly being just as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But have we reached the point in time where the treatment has become somewhat of an overkill? It
can be argued that today, advertising for psychiatric medication has gotten out of hand, pushing out
newer drugs that appeal to every little problem people seem to complain about these days. Is
psychiatry for sale?: An examination of the influence of the pharmaceutical industry on academic and
practical psychiatry Is a Maudsley Discussion paper, a series of short papers that deal with
controversial issues in mental health. This discussion paper is written by Joanna Moncrieff, a British
psychiatrist and part of the Critical Psychiatry Network. She primarily analyzes the influence of the
pharmaceutical industry in the psychiatric field. Even though the paper is over ten years old, it
provides insight into what is still most likely happening. She argues that because the industry is
heavily involved in funding psychiatric research, that psychiatric practices could be directed by a
profit focused agenda (Moncrieff). She suggests that excessive advertising and research findings are
likely produced to benefit this agenda, and likely causes the fabrication of specific disorders to create
markets for new medications. It can be assumed that such an operation is capable of produce some
widely dangerous outcomes, even if it is a small percent of the

The Differences Between Different Latin American Countries...
Hispanic s in America, much like many other groups of immigrants, are not always welcomed when
they arrive in the United States. They are often seen as inferior or as illegal. Many Americans believe
that Hispanics should be deported and that they come to America to take their jobs away from them.
Additionally, many Americans consider all Hispanics to be Mexican and fail to recognize the
differences between different Latin American countries. In spontaneous situations, people may be
quick to negatively judge another based on their appearance and their perceived stereotypes of a
certain group of people. My boyfriend and his family, who were all born in Peru, invited me to the
USA vs Peru soccer game. Peru and the USA s records were tied, both having two wins and two
losses. The result of the game would break the tie and put one team on top. His family has a very
strong sense of Peruvian pride and so they were very happy and excited to be going to the game. It
was a normal hot day in September when we arrived at the stadium. We wanted to get into the stadium
as soon as possible and find our seats so that we could settle in and watch the players warm up. My
boyfriend and his family were all wearing Peruvian jerseys and I was wearing a t shirt that said Peru.
The game began and everything was going normally. There were supporters of Peru and of the USA
sitting around us. About 10 minutes into the second half of the game, three lady s supporting the

Umbilical Cord Blood
There are so many people in this world today that are diagnosed with blood disorders, and other
cancerous diseases. Along these terrible diseases comes a long, painful journey of treatments, like
bone marrow transplants. But, bone marrow transplants aren t the only transplants in this world now.
In the outstanding findings of 1980 an estimation of more than 130 million infants are born, and
umbilical cord blood (UCB) is known to be the most abundant reservoir of hematopoietic cells for
many clinical applications. (Waller Wise R.)
Umbilical cord blood has many potential usages, yet mothers don t know about it. Instead of using the
umbilical cord blood, doctors usually just dispose of it. What mothers don t have the knowledge of is
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because one unit of umbilical cord blood won t affect adults whatsoever. There aren t enough
hematopoietic stem cells in one unit. This is why scientists and clinical trials are doing their best to
come up with a way to double the unit so adults are able to use it, and not just adolescence. Scientists
are also still studying more ways to treat diseases with cord blood. At Duke University, for example,
researchers are using patients own cord blood in trials for cerebral palsy and Hypoxic ischemic
encephalopathy (a condition in which the brain does not receive enough oxygen). Trials are also under
way for the treatment of autism at the Sutter Neuroscience Institute in Sacramento, California. Also,
according to the New England Journal of Medicine, cord blood is still better than marrow
transplantations after studies were done. The adult patients in the trial had advanced leukemia, and
were then give a bone marrow transplant, but recovery was slower because they weren t matched. On
the other hand, the leukemia patients that were given cord blood transplants had more matches than
bone marrow, and also had no acute graft versus host disease. A really exciting area that s just now in
the basic science lab, is the area where stem cells...can be used for going over to muscle cells like your

Analysis Of Trifles By Susan Glaspell
The time and setting tell a lot about what a story and its underlying meaning can represent to each
character individually and together. In the short play Trifles by Susan Glaspell, readers and viewers
are taken back to a period that is a lot different than the current. From the surroundings, viewpoints of
each sex and their assigned roles in the society all gave a greater understanding of what was portrayed
and how it was essentially handled. Trifles started with the Sheriff and his wife Mrs. Peters, Mr. Hale
and Mrs. Hale and the County Attorney entering the home of the deceased Mr. Wright. From the very
beginning, it is easy to depict what the living arrangements are based on how the layout of the home

Hale because he was dead. They found him lying on his bed with a rope around his neck and rushed to
alert the coroner. From there, the play begins to expand beyond the case when the group arrives at the
home searching for clues and indications.
While the men look around for bold indication of why this happened, the women looked around at the
smaller details of the home and tried to relate to the wife. As the men looked around the kitchen they
concluded there was nothing here but kitchen things . as they went on to search through her cupboards
making remarks about her worrying about her preserves while being held for murder. They went on to
discuss that women are used to worrying about trifles and what we would do without them. The way
the men spoke about women made it clear that they believe that the women were only good for
housework and worrying about the little things such as kitchen work. throughout the discussion, the
two other women huddled closer together as if forming a bond as the men discuss their daily work as
if it is merely little to nothing.
As the men went on to looking upstairs, Mrs. Hale continued her views on the men invasion of Mrs.
Wright home while collecting some clothes for Mrs. Wright who was in holding. As the women
conversed and walked around the house, the women began to connect with each other and with Mrs.
Wright as Mrs. Hale discussed the type of woman she was in the earlier years and how it all changed
after she was married. She

Graduation Speech And Technical Education
Filling in the Missing Gaps
Why are schools not preparing students for college, for the real world, or how be successful in the
work force? Many Americans ask this question and do not understand that Career and Technical
Education (CTE), once called Vocational Education, do exactly that (Estacion, Deluca, Plank 346).
They believe that all that schools teach are how to write, solve math problems, use the scientific
method, and absorb the information discussed in history courses. Career and Technical Education uses
experimental learning that gives students skills and motivation to graduate high school and be
successful afterwards. Experimental learning is a concept that uses practical thinking and activities to
grasp contexts and make learning information and skills easier (Fletcher and Hernadez Gantes par. 3).
Career and Technical Education give students opportunities to better themselves, and stay in school to
create success in all aspects of their lives. The skills and unique courses taught in Career and
Technical Education allow students opportunities and dreams that they do not receive in regular core
classes. An occurrence is recorded in the journal of Phi Delta Kappan of a student that took a culinary
course in high school that inspired her to enter the culinary field of work. Due to the lack of credit in
the Career and Technical Education and of two year degree programs, her parent suggested that she

Tax Depreciation Myths
DEBUNKING TAX DEPRECIATION MYTHS
There is a lot of ambiguity surrounding laws regarding tax depreciation deductions. Many people fail
to claim their full returns due to simple misunderstandings regarding these laws. Depreciation is the
key to augmenting cash flow on a residential or commercial property. We will take a look at some of
the prevailing myths and debunk them.
Myth #1 You can only depreciate new properties
An investment property does not necessarily have to be brand new in order to attract depreciation
deductions. If you have an older property that was built around 1985 (when the building allowance
came into place) you can still claim depreciation value. It is worth pursuing and enquiring to see what
might be available for you.
Myth #2 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Works of plumbing, waterproofing, and electrical wiring can also be estimated and the cost can be
claimed, provided the work was completed after the 18th of July 1985 for residential properties and
July 1982 for commercial properties.
Myth #4 Deductions are only available at the time you make the change
According to ATO rulings, from the completed date of construction, any building eligible to claim
capital works deductions has a maximum effective life of 40 years. Investors, can, therefore, claim up
to 40 years of property depreciation on a new building. Older properties which still has a balance of
some years from the 40 years period can also be claimed.
Myth #5 The only items that depreciate are Plant and Equipment
In addition to the Plant and Equipment, capital work deductions (known as Division 43 or building
write off) is also claimable. It comprises of the structural element of a building and is based on
historical constructions and includes construction materials.
Be informed and dispel the anomalies surrounding tax depreciation to make it a tool of financial

The Issue Of Trump Companies Using Labor Offshore
First , I am writing this to try to address some very confusing issues for myself, since it seems that the
media no longers presents news, but interprets information in what I consider a biased manner.
Secondly, I hope by presenting my questions, ideas, and concerns, that others can please provide me
feedback to assist with my education on these topics.
The issue of Trump companies using labor offshore seems to be a point for the media. What I do not
understand is why did the government set up the rules to make using offshore labor advantageous? I
guess I would ask why would a businessman choose to pay more and make his product less
competitive? I would pose this question to the media, do they pay the most they can for a service or a
product?
One of the things that is very confusing is the idea of Trump being Anti Semitic. I believe he has a
daughter that has converted and she still runs a large part of his company.
I also have been told that Trump is a white supremacist, but to my knowledge, he has not been in the
KKK or the Nazi party. I believe that with all the government rules surrounding construction if he was
a white supremacist, he would most likely not use labor that did not meet a certain description. To that
point, the media blasted him for not hiring several white candidates at a hotel in Florida. It does not
make sense to call him a bigot.
As for him being against women, we have yet to have a single situation where we have had the media,
short of

Go Gentle Into That Good Night
For many people, the thought of death is a terrifying concept to fathom. Whether a beloved family
member, pet, or even emotions have died, death in any form continues to be a challenging subject to
communicate about to others. From dances to songs and from paintings to writings, people express
their views on death in a variety of forms and fashions. In William Cullen Bryant s Thanatopsis and
Dylan Thomas s Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, death exists as the main topic of both
poems; however, Bryant s and Thomas s opinions on death contrast greatly in both works as a result of
each poet s religious beliefs, experiences, family and decisions that influenced the poems. Bryant and

Bryant had held a very close relationship with his beloved sister, Sally, who died young (Gado 295).
His sister meant a lot to him, and her death hurt him deeply. He had also been affected by the death of
both his grandfather, Ebenezer Snell, and a close family friend, the wife of Jacob Porter. Both died in
1813 (Muller 22). Their deaths added to the stress of a young man who seemed to keep finding death
at his back door. These individuals also influenced the writing of Thanatopsis. In lines 68 through 72,
Bryant points out how the ...maid / [t]he speechless babe, and the gray headed man / [s]hall one by one
be gathered to thy side... (Bryant 2). Here, the poem presents clear references to the deaths of his
sister, his grandfather, and family friend. He thought so much about them and their importance to him
that he just could not leave them out of the poem. Although the deaths of these significant figures in
Bryant s life caused him some heart ache he did not let that dwindle his support of death. In lines 31
through 34, Bryant promises that a person would not go alone but [t]hou shall lie down with patriarchs
of the infant world... the wise, the good, / [f]air forms, and hoary seers of ages past... (Bryant 1). Here,

American Outsourcing Case Analysis
Case Summary
The American Outsourcing Case is a compilation of factual information for the purpose of provoking
debates. The authors present both the pros and cons of outsourcing, and avoid inserting their personal
bias. The case clearly defines outsourcing and then focuses on outlining its existence in China,
Mexico, and India. The evolution and U.S. involvement in the Maquiladoras of Mexico is described
first. The implementation of NAFTA and the creation of Maquiladoras were major catalysts in the
growth of free trade between the U.S. and Mexico. China, in an attempt to attract foreign investors,
created Special Economic Areas, which designated geographic zones that were enabled to operate
under their own laws. With great tax benefits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some companies might be deterred from outsourcing here, since the Mexican government has some
strict regulations. They require paid vacation premium, eight paid holidays each year, medical care
coverage, employee training, Mexican social security, overtime, premiums, Christmas bonus of 15
days salary, and profit sharing of 10 percent of total profits (Schniederjans). Mexico is also notorious
for economic volatility and instability. Their dependence on the U.S. economy is unhealthy, they often
experience our negative economic fluctuations to a magnified degree. Lots of companies prefer to
invest their money in countries that offer a little more stable. Today, Indian outsourcing is one of the
best ways for CIOs to cut application development and maintenance costs, and deal effectively with
the peaks and valleys of software demands. (Yeo). Outsourcing to India is still focused primarily on
highly technological aspects, but is not limited there. They are known for creative development in the
pharmaceutical field, and have recently developed an unsurpassed medication for adult ADHD. Their
superior IT assistance is not limited to companies, they offer many websites for individuals seeking
help with programming. In mid 2007, U.S. outsourcing to India reached $4.9 billion. Although
technologically advanced, they still lag in economic prosperity and therefore still don t expect the type
of compensation that Americans do. They

How Immigrants Cope With Culture Shock
I think that all immigrants cope with culture shock and living in a new place in different ways.
Everyone is a different person and just because your an immigrant it doesn t mean your not a human
being with feelings. For example, someone who is more introverted may keep their feelings bundled
up inside, whereas someone who is more of an extrovert may seek help and talk to someone. To
conclude, I think that there s not one specific way to cope with culture shock and because everyone is
a different person, we all deal with thing differently.
I think that immigrants nowadays face a greater degree of culture shock than people in the past. For
example, When I first came to the States I was shocked by the gargantuan proportions of those around

A Brief Note On Chronic Illness And Disabilities
The Social Issue to be Discussed and the Nature of the Issue
Serious, or Chronic, Illness and disabilities affect nearly 72 million working age adults, which is 39
percent of the working population in the United States (Tu and Cohen 2009). Chronic illnesses are
ailments that are protracted, do not resolve spontaneously, and are rarely cured completely (Centers
for Disease Control, 2009). Similar to chronic illness, disabilities tends to be a longer term condition.
The Americans with Disabilities Act defines people as disabled if they have an impairment that
substantially limits one or more major life activities, a record of such an impairment, or are regarded
as having such an impairment (1991).

This is relevant from a social work perspective because clients (employees) with an illness or
disability can be considered a vulnerable population and it is the duty of a social worker, as outlined
by the Code of Ethics, to defend the rights of at risk populations (National Association of Social
Workers, 2008). While there are several Ethical Principles in the Social Work Code of Ethics that
pertain to this specific topic, the most relevant are the values of Social Justice and the Importance of
Human Relationships. As a Social Justice Advocate, a social worker is compelled to act on behalf of
those who are vulnerable and oppressed to ensure that access to information, resources, opportunity,
and involvement in their care is available (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). A social
worker should ensure that the employee has access to all of the rights and benefits they are entitled to,
as well as serve as an advocate for cultural or policy change in order to accommodate the needs of the
client. Additionally, a social worker should value the Importance of Human Relationships and serve as
a liaison between the employer and employee to ensure that a healthy and purposeful relationship is
maintained, and that the

Disadvantages Of Conflict
Conflicts and arguments are part of our daily lives and we deal with them in our own ways. Usually
conflicts arise between two or more individuals, organizations or even nations and the scope of every
conflict is to find a solution to the disagreement that was created between the parties. Each
disagreement may have a different nature, even if it is personal, financial or political there must be a
solution.
The most common way to deal with conflict is to avoid it, some individuals leave the discussion, and
some get angry and upset, actually it may amaze you what people would do in order to avoid a
conflict. Denial is one of the most common issues when we talk about resolving a conflict. Through

The Characters Of Cujo Cujo
Based on the descriptions and events in this excerpt. I can infer that the title character, Cujo, has
turned rabid and he is out to look for blood. I can also infer that his eyes are red and watery with thick
substance leaking from it. Finally, I can infer that he has already killed his owner because he had mud
and blood all over him. This was all stated in paragraphs 10 and 11, The dog s eyes settled on hers.
They were red and rheumy. They were leaking some viscous substance. The dog seemed to be
weeping gummy tears. His tawny coat was caked and matted with mud and Blood. is that... All of this
evidence told me that Cujo is rabid and has already killed his owner.
Donna s actions and thoughts reveal that her character is very clumsy and when she gets frightened
she is unable to think and is unaware of what she is doing. In paragraph 13 it states, She couldn t seem
to move. No breath...There was no contact between her brain and her legs...Her hands were stupid
blocks of flesh south of her wrists with no feeling in them. Her urine went. She was unaware of it save
for some vague sensation of distant warmth. This tells me that when Donna saw the dog, Cujo, she
didn t know what to do and just stood there. Also, in paragraph 16 it states, She turned in a great
shambling drunk s pivot, slamming her lower leg against the Pinto s fender and sending a steely bolt
of pain up to her hip...She hit her crazybone and uttered a thin shriek of pain. Donna s actions tell me

Many men and woman were desperately needed to work on the land. The slave s owners where white

did not solve any of their problems. Slaves were mainly economical on large farms where they labored
intensive cash crops, including tobacco, cotton, rice, sugar, and many other farming products that were
able to be traded and exported. By the end of the American Revolution, slavery was finally proven
unprofitable in the North, so it started dying out. In the South the institution was becoming less and
less useful to farmers as tobacco prices fluctuated and began to drop rapidly. That s is when the cotton
gin was invented by Eli Whitney, which created the growth of southern slavery again and was the
central place of cotton in the world economy (class notes). The cotton replaced the tobacco leading to
the South s main cash crop and slavery became profitable again. That made the international slave
trade rise. Although, majority of the Southerners did not own any slaves at all. But, by 1860 the South
s abnormality institution was impossible to separate from the regions economy.
The Southerners were torn between the economic benefits of slavery and the morals of the

How Does Lee Show Real Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the message of courage is significant. This is due
to the many characters that express courage in the novel through many events. The courage that they
display is different compared to the dictionary definition of facing against dangers. The novel
demonstrates how courage can be expressed through a variety of ways and no matter how subtle an act
of courage may be it can make a difference in many ways. This courage gives them their strength and
deepen their self understanding as the novel progresses. Although the characters Atticus Finch and
Jeremy Finch do not demonstrate their courage through big dangers, they demonstrate real courage by
persevering through abrupt challenges by having moral integrity and strength which results in the

Courage in the novel is shown to be different compared to the dictionary definition of courage. As
Atticus says it, courage is when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyways and
you see it through no matter what (Lee 149). Atticus explains here that real courage is not physical and
heroic like facing down a mad dog, but it is the mental decision and moral values in doing so. Without
mental and emotional fortitude, it is impossible to demonstrate courage when it is most needed. It
takes a moral integrity and strength, and a willingness to do so to show real courage. This is how real
courage is distinguished from the typical definition of courage which usually talks about withstanding
danger. Such as for Atticus, facing challenges with the odds going against him in the trial and for Jem,
defending Atticus even with him telling him not to. Both are tremendous examples of true courage that
help classify characters that are courageous. Overall, the message of real courage in the novel is
developed from what the characters have done to prove themselves

The culture of Israel is centered around many Jewish traditions, most notably including holidays.

A New Set Of National Patient Safety Essay
Introduction
In health care settings across the country patient care is compromised by various preventable mistakes.
Health care workers (HCW) are continuously pushing the boundaries of time constraints. As these
demands are increased the possibility for poor patient outcomes also increase. Prevention is the first
line of defense and promotes healthy practices for HCW and patients. The Joint Commission (TJC)
collects data pertaining to the incidences, information surrounding each case and establishes a national
quality and safety standard. TJC accredits thousands of health care establishments with the goal to
provide safety and increase the quality of care provided in each setting. In 2016 TJC released a new
set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The goals are meant to bring awareness to the accredited
facilities and HCW of concerning hazards that need to be focused on. For instance, using two
identifiers when identifying a patient to prevent medical errors, and preforming hand hygiene to
reduce the risk of infections.
Accuracy of Patient Identification
The Joint Commission, NPSG.01.01.01 is the goal for improvement of accurately identifying a
patient. The use of two patient identifiers such as name, date of birth, or a type of security number that
will assure the right patient gets the right treatment, care, or service. Complications that arise from
misidentification of a patient may range from mild to Sentinel event. One could consider an

correct. However, she does not know how heat is formed or its movement abilities.
2. Emily had no understanding of the term friction . She may possibly identify that hands rubbing

3. The Science concept that the sun is an important natural energy source where heat comes from was
identified by Emily. As suggested her idea was that the sun was the main one .
4. It can be said that Emily knows that the season of summer represents heat and hotness, as she used
the words the asphalt is really hot and heats up . A misconception is again the lack of theory as to why
the asphalt gets really hot.
5. Emily demonstrated sound knowledge of what evaporation is, regarding the picture of the water
cycle. A response using scientific terminology in relation to evaporation involving the water cycle
process was not given at this stage.
6. The student provided me with many examples if how heat is used in everyday life. Emily s views
were of excellent standard and more importantly accurate. No misconception of how heat is beneficial
and can be used in everyday life.

Deforestation In Rainforests
Rich black soil, towering tropical trees, the distant sound of a hollering monkey and the smell of damp
leaves paint the picture of a tropical rainforest. The most famous and valuable tropical forests include
the Amazon, Congo Basin, Indonesia and the forests of the Russian Far East and have been debated as
endangered for decades. These rainforests mainly differ in soils, geology, precipitation patterns, the
wildlife which resides there but all share the abundance of natural wealth including sturdy woods,
medicines and spices and are sought out by many. However the long debated question still stands if
deforestation is something of the past or an on going and current threat. Deforestation is defined as the
intentional or natural clearance of forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality
of the land and adverse environment effects. () Today forests still cover roughly 30% of the worlds
land area however this number is sure to dwindle down due to the loss of 46 58 thousand square miles
annually, equivalent to approximately 48 footballs fields every minute. (WWF) The decline in trees
translates for loss of habitat and homes for the millions of exotic creatures which call rainforests for
example the Amazon, home. The Amazon alone is home to more than two thirds of the 1.4 million
species known to man however this is not even close to the extent of the wealth the drizzly rainforest
has to offer. (Rothbard, David and Craig Rucker) Species who s habitats are threatened by
deforestation are often unable to prosper in the small forested acres left behind. Therefore species
become vulnerable to trophy hunters or poachers causing numbers to begin to dwindle, some
eventually succumbing to extinction. Even a lighter non commercial local deforestation can result in
extinctions due to many unique species living in small isolated parts of the rainforests across the
globe. (WWF) According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) affected species includes: giant pandas,
tigers, rhinos, orangutans, Asian elephant, many species of apes like the gorilla and the Amur leopard
(WWF). Rainforests are not only threatened by the effects of commercial and large scale deforestation
but also by the communities of people

Natural Vs Anthropogenic Climate Change
Natural versus Anthropogenic climate changes
Anthropogenic climate change occurs due to something that is caused by humanity. One example of
this is fossil fuels, the carbon dioxide is higher than in the previous centuries due to humans burning
fuel like coal for energy. As with emissions of methane along with greenhouses rising those affects
also add to change of climate. The second example of anthropogenic climate changes is due to
agriculture. Before humans began burning fuels for energy climate change occurred by deforestation,
agriculture and also irrigation. The change happened as people had reduced vegetation ground cover,
which changes how sunlight may be reflected and absorbed. Natural climate change occurs due to
events such as volcanoes eruption and the ash being spread everywhere. One example for natural
climate change is solar energy, there are fluctuations which occur over time and predicts some pattern
for change. Another example of natural climate change is from earth itself, the orbiting from the earth
around the sun will alter at different positions which has an effect of what level of energy earth gets.
How these changes are similar they both alter changes to the climate and create side effects which
cause natural disasters and health issues for humans. How ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chicken Pox is a virus caused by varicella zoster, a member of the herpes family. This same virus also
is a cause of herpes zoster other known as shingles in adults. Chicken pox is very contagious and can
easily spread to people. Chicken pox is acquired by coming into contact with the fluid of a chicken

The person should avoid scratching or rubbing the itchy areas and keep their fingernails short to avoid
damaging the skin. The infected person should avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat and
humidity. The use of over the counter antihistamines or hydrocortisone creams may be recommended
for itch relief. Some doctors may prescribe antivirals if the rash began within 24 hours. Antiviral
medication is not usually prescribed to otherwise healthy children who do not have severe symptoms.
Antivirals are usually prescribed to high risk groups whom are prone to severe symptoms such as
eczema, lung conditions, or who immunocompromised individuals. The infected person should also be
advised to avoid aspirin due to association with a serious condition called Reyes syndrome or
Ibuprofen due to the association of more severe secondary infections. Tylenol is recommended for
fever relief. Some complications that can occur are bacterial infections secondary to scratching,
encephalitis, pneumonia and death. The preventions of chickenpox are acquired by vaccination with
the varicella vaccine in children, adolescents, and adults, and the herpes zoster vaccine for persons of
60 and older (Maurer Smith). The Centers for Disease and controls estimates that 95% of Americans
will have chickenpox by the time they reach adulthood. The CDC also estimates that there are 4

irritating and annoying I wondered if this was the best alternative rather than risking it and going

kept on enjoying the fast but not fastest speed. Lunch came and I went inside the center and got a bite

Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking
Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and
soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but
horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked
at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public
looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance
began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild
obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonance made me begin to change my behavior.
Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it
can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors.
Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used
the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something
has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015,
p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in
ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the
stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds
themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An
extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community
might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by
either change our behaviors or our beliefs.
Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the
Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths
drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of
the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking
(Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Glatz et al

homicides come sleepless nights and hallucinations of ghosts. Eventually, his wife goes crazy because
of her guilty conscience of provoking her husband into committing the murders, and dies right before
the battle between Macbeth and Macduff occurs. One chief motive behind Macduff s purpose to

Themes Of Osmosis Jones Monomyth
Osmosis Jones and the Monomyth Osmosis Jones tells the story of a white blood cell who plays the
role of a policeman inside a man named Frank. Teamwork is the central theme in Osmosis Jones, and
is developed through the monomyth. The monomyth or hero s journey shows the steps that most
movies go through, for example, The Matrix, Harry Potter, and Hunger Games. Most of these stories
pass through twelve specific steps. According to Joseph Campbell, in his book, The Hero With a
Thousand Faces, The monomyth is a structure that is common in many heroic stories, an outline that
has existed for millennia. This story follows the main steps within the monomyth, while each step
helps strengthen the theme. Osmosis Jones, the main protagonist, lives his everyday life as a rebellious
germ policeman in the mouth. The first step of the monomyth, or his call to adventure is when Frank,
the body he is trying to protect, contracts a deadly virus named Thrax. Thinking Thrax was just a
common cold Frank consumes a pill called Drixenol. Drixenol, also known as Drix, befriends Jones as
they are assigned partners on the cold case. Drix helps fulfill the second step of the monomyth, and
becomes Jones assistance. This is where the two join as one and become a team. Although Jones and
Drix go through a lot of small trials their first big trial, and the third step of the monomyth, is their
encounter with Thrax in the nose. While in Franks nose Thrax turns the pressure pods up which
destroys all the walls in his nostril. This causes a runny nose which Jones and Drix struggle to contain.
After the nose incident Jones and Drix work together to extract evidence from the old know it all
chicken pox influenza. With Jones smooth talking and Drix s big gun they use teamwork to beat the
truth out of the old timer. Knowing all about Thrax they set off to find and defeat the menacing virus.
Finally, they find Thrax at a new club on Franks forehead named The Zit. As they listen in on Thrax s
plan to kill Frank within forty eight hours they are discovered. Through teamwork they destroy The
Zit and all the germs within it including Thrax, or so they think. Thrax miraculously survives the

Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up reactions by lowering associated activation energies.1 More specifically, enzymes bind substrates and hold them in an orientation that increases the likelihood of them coming into contact with other reactants.1 A way of measuring how fast an enzyme works is by conducting an enzyme assay. An enzyme assay is the process by which a spectrophotometer is used to determine how the concentration of a colored substrate or product changes within an enzyme solution over time.1 With that being said, the purpose of this experiment is to perform multiple enzyme assays in order to determine the concentrations of unknown solutions and to gain an understanding of how different enzymes work. For the first part of the experiment, a phosphatase assay will be conducted by combining p Nitrophenol Phosphate and a phosphatase, an enzyme that hydrolyzes phosphate groups. Since one of the products of the reaction, p Nitrophenol, absorbs light at 405 nanometers (nm), an increase in absorbance at 405 nm indicates the formation of the product. Thus, by measuring the increasing absorbance at 405 nm, we can use the Beer Lambert law (A=ɛlc) to quantify how much product is produced at specific times. The second part of the lab involves conducting an alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) assay using a dehydrogenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the removal of hydrogen atoms from a particular molecule. Essay on The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad For an increasing number of women in the United States, a concern or preoccupation with body weight and size is a constant pressure. Female athletes, like most women in our society, are also often pressured to conform to certain ideal body sizes and shapes, as dictated by the entertainment and fashion industries. Female athletes, however, face a twofold pressure. They face the burden that our culture places on all women to be thin, but they also face the burden from coaches, parents, and other athletes to succeed in sports and look good doing so by maintaining an unrealistically low weight. Having stated these limitations, there are a number of studies which do in fact indicate that female athletes struggle more with eating disorders than average females. Studies report that the rate of disordered eating among female athletes may be as high as 62% in certain sports (Yeager, Agostini, Nattiv, and Drinkwater, 1993). While a study of college female swimmers found 15.4% were affected, a study of college gymnasts showed that 62% of collegiate female athletes had seriously abnormal eating patterns. Smith (1996) found that disordered eating is most common among those in appearance sports, such as gymnastics, ballet, figure skating, equestrian sports, and diving. However, disordered eating behavior can be seen in other sports in which appearance is not as important, such as tennis, swimming, and running. Skolnick (1993) also notes that another study of 182 female athletes, who participated in a variety of college sports, found that 32% showed disordered eating patterns. • 8. Maternal Instinct in The Turn of the Screw Essay Henry James The Turn of the Screw is one of the more disputed texts in all of literature, as it is famously known as an ambiguous text. The primary uncertain element of is whether there are ghosts scaring the governess and the children, or whether the governess is actually going insane. Even though a certain portion of the text is ambiguous, there are other portions of the text that are much more black and white. For example, the relationships in this novella are nothing close to normal. However, going to Mrs. Grose for information is extremely maternal. Since there is a very real possibility of danger, the governess wants to keep the children as safe as possible. The only way she can protect Miles and Flora is by gathering information and becoming aware of what is going on. Speaking of the children, the next relationship that must be focused upon is the one between the governess and Flora, the estate owner s eight year old daughter. In the second chapter of the story, the governess s maternal instinct shows up in the most simple of acts: she brings Flora along with her to go pick up Miles. She does not have to bring Flora along at all. She could have just left Flora at Bly manor, for Mrs. Grose and the other servants to take care of her. However, since the governess is new, she has not yet had a chance to get to know everyone and how things work. Therefore, the governess probably does not trust the others at Bly estate, and the only way to keep an eye on Flora is to bring her on the trip and exercising her protective maternal instinct. A second example of the governess exercising her maternal relationship can be found on page 68 of The Turn of the Screw. In this scene, the governess goes to Flora s bedroom to check and see if she is alright. Right when it is clear that Flora is not in her bed, the governess caught my breath with, all the terror that, five minutes ago, I had been able to resist (James 68). Quite simply, it was the ... The issue of Trump companies using labor offshore seems to be a point for the media. What I do not understand is why did the government set up the rules to make using offshore labor advantageous? I can also infer that his eyes are red and watery with thick substance leaking from it. Finally, I can infer that he has already killed his owner because he had mud and blood all over him. This was all stated in paragraphs 10 and 11, The dog s eyes settled on hers. They were red and rheumy. They were leaking some viscous substance. The dog seemed to be weeping gummy tears. His tawny coat was caked and matted with mud and Blood. is that... All of this evidence told me that Cujo is rabid and has already killed his owner. Donna s actions and thoughts reveal that her character is very clumsy and when she gets frightened she is unable to think and is unaware of what she is doing. In paragraph 13 it states, She couldn t seem to move. No breath...There was no contact between her brain and her legs...Her hands were stupid blocks of flesh south of her wrists with no feeling in them. Her urine went. She was unaware of it save for some vague sensation of distant warmth. This tells me that when Donna saw the dog, Cujo, she didn t know what to do and just stood there. Also, in paragraph 16 it states, She turned in a great shambling drunk s pivot, slamming her lower leg against the Pinto s fender and sending a steely bolt of pain up to her hip...She hit her crazybone and uttered a thin shriek of pain. In the South the institution was becoming less and less useful to farmers as tobacco prices fluctuated and began to drop rapidly. That s is when the cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney, which created the growth of southern slavery again and was the central place of cotton in the world economy (class notes). The cotton replaced the tobacco leading to the South s main cash crop and slavery became profitable again. That made the international slave trade rise. • 27. How Does Lee Show Real Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, the message of courage is significant. This is due to the many characters that express courage in the novel through many events. The courage that they display is different compared to the dictionary definition of facing against dangers. The novel demonstrates how courage can be expressed through a variety of ways and no matter how subtle an act of courage may be it can make a difference in many ways. This courage gives them their strength and deepen their self understanding as the novel progresses. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Courage in the novel is shown to be different compared to the dictionary definition of courage. As Atticus says it, courage is when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyways and you see it through no matter what (Lee 149). Atticus explains here that real courage is not physical and heroic like facing down a mad dog, but it is the mental decision and moral values in doing so. Without mental and emotional fortitude, it is impossible to demonstrate courage when it is most needed. It takes a moral integrity and strength, and a willingness to do so to show real courage. This is how real courage is distinguished from the typical definition of courage which usually talks about withstanding danger. Such as for Atticus, facing challenges with the odds going against him in the trial and for Jem, defending Atticus even with him telling him not to. Both are tremendous examples of true courage that help classify characters that are courageous. The Joint Commission (TJC) collects data pertaining to the incidences, information surrounding each case and establishes a national quality and safety standard. TJC accredits thousands of health care establishments with the goal to provide safety and increase the quality of care provided in each setting. In 2016 TJC released a new set of National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). The goals are meant to bring awareness to the accredited facilities and HCW of concerning hazards that need to be focused on. • 31. Deforestation In Rainforests Rich black soil, towering tropical trees, the distant sound of a hollering monkey and the smell of damp leaves paint the picture of a tropical rainforest. The most famous and valuable tropical forests include the Amazon, Congo Basin, Indonesia and the forests of the Russian Far East and have been debated as endangered for decades. These rainforests mainly differ in soils, geology, precipitation patterns, the wildlife which resides there but all share the abundance of natural wealth including sturdy woods, medicines and spices and are sought out by many. However the long debated question still stands if deforestation is something of the past or an on going and current threat. Deforestation is defined as the intentional or natural clearance of forests on a massive scale, often resulting in damage to the quality of the land and adverse environment effects. () Today forests still cover roughly 30% of the worlds land area however this number is sure to dwindle down due to the loss of 46 58 thousand square miles annually, equivalent to approximately 48 footballs fields every minute. (WWF) The decline in trees translates for loss of habitat and homes for the millions of exotic creatures which call rainforests for example the Amazon, home. The Amazon alone is home to more than two thirds of the 1.4 million species known to man however this is not even close to the extent of the wealth the drizzly rainforest has to offer. (Rothbard, David and Craig Rucker) Species who s habitats are threatened by deforestation are often unable to prosper in the small forested acres left behind. Therefore species become vulnerable to trophy hunters or poachers causing numbers to begin to dwindle, some eventually succumbing to extinction. Even a lighter non commercial local deforestation can result in extinctions due to many unique species living in small isolated parts of the rainforests across the globe. (WWF) According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) affected species includes: giant pandas, tigers, rhinos, orangutans, Asian elephant, many species of apes like the gorilla and the Amur leopard (WWF). One example of this is fossil fuels, the carbon dioxide is higher than in the previous centuries due to humans burning fuel like coal for energy. As with emissions of methane along with greenhouses rising those affects also add to change of climate. The second example of anthropogenic climate changes is due to agriculture. Before humans began burning fuels for energy climate change occurred by deforestation, agriculture and also irrigation. The change happened as people had reduced vegetation ground cover, which changes how sunlight may be reflected and absorbed. Natural climate change occurs due to events such as volcanoes eruption and the ash being spread everywhere. One example for natural climate change is solar energy, there are fluctuations which occur over time and predicts some pattern for change. Another example of natural climate change is from earth itself, the orbiting from the earth around the sun will alter at different positions which has an effect of what level of energy earth gets. • 37. Cognitive Dissonance Theory Of Smoking Growing up I was never one for exercising let only eating healthy. Bad habits don t die easily and soon enough as I got older they took their toll on my body. As grew not only vertically but horizontally instead of changing my habits I only continued them. I merely changed the way I looked at the problem by embracing the love for my naturally curves instead. Despite not only the public looking down on hefty women but with the further disapproval of my family that the dissonance began to weigh more. Things only progressively got worst when I was medically diagnosed with mild obesity. It was only then that the cognitive dissonance made me begin to change my behavior. Cognitive dissonance theory explains the contradictions we have with our behaviors and beliefs but it can also be used to get us to have positive behaviors. Cognitive dissonance theory was created by Leon Festinger and to better explain his theory he used the topic of smoking. He showed how the contradiction is so clear and uncomfortable that something has to give either the use of cigarettes of the belief that smoking will [harm] (Griffin et al., 2015, p.201). Cognitive dissonance in a nutshell is a contradiction that causes us stress. It is when we act in ways that go against what we believe and the strong presence we have on the matter the greater the stress we have. Festinger (2015) describe it the distressing mental state one feels when one finds themselves doing things that don t fit with what we believe or what the public approves of (p.200). An extreme example of this is the high one gets from taking drugs but the disapproval the community might have for it. With dissonance creating a stressful mental state we naturally want to avoid it by either change our behaviors or our beliefs. Cognitive dissonance can have either positive effects or negative ones on a person s being. In the Glatz, Stattin, Kerr study they considered the health and behavior of parents who find their youths drinking. Generally underage drinking is looked down upon in the community and even in the eyes of the law but studies have shown that parents reduce control and support in response to youths drinking (Glatz, Stattin, Kerr, 2012, p. 629). Teamwork is the central theme in Osmosis Jones, and is developed through the monomyth. The monomyth or hero s journey shows the steps that most movies go through, for example, The Matrix, Harry Potter, and Hunger Games. Most of these stories pass through twelve specific steps. According to Joseph Campbell, in his book, The Hero With a Thousand Faces, The monomyth is a structure that is common in many heroic stories, an outline that has existed for millennia. This story follows the main steps within the monomyth, while each step helps strengthen the theme. Osmosis Jones, the main protagonist, lives his everyday life as a rebellious germ policeman in the mouth. The first step of the monomyth, or his call to adventure is when Frank, the body he is trying to protect, contracts a deadly virus named Thrax. Thinking Thrax was just a common cold Frank consumes a pill called Drixenol. Drixenol, also known as Drix, befriends Jones as they are assigned partners on the cold case. Drix helps fulfill the second step of the monomyth, and becomes Jones assistance. This is where the two join as one and become a team.
