The Importance Of The Number Of Physical Therapy Sessions...
Background and Purpose: SLAP is a superior labrum tear in an anterior to posterior direction of the
shoulder, affecting more than 4000 people in a year. Usually men between the ages of 20 30 and 40
50. The purpose of this case report is to show the relevance of the number of physical therapy sessions
after a SLAP surgery repair.
Case Description: The patient was a 41 year old male kinesiology professor physically active in
volleyball, weight training, and cross fit. The patient was diagnosed with a SLAP type II tear and
micro fracture visible on an MRI with arthrogram. Outcome measures employed were the
QuickDASH for functional disability symptoms and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to report the
level of pain. Some of the interventions used in this case were grade I/II manipulations, pendulum,
cryotherapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, PNF exercises, and closed kinetic chain activities.
Outcomes: After 27 physical therapy visits post surgeries in a period of 6 months the patient reported
no perceived work disability after 52 weeks. Nonetheless, some functional disability was experienced
when it came to general activities and sports between 4 to 13 percent based on the QuickDASH. Pain
levels reported by the VAS remained considerable low. The subject reported the pain level between 0 4
on a 10 scale; pain decreased to zero by week 10.
Discussion: Decreasing the number of therapy visits and increasing the interval of time off between
them, patients might be

Essay On Effect Of Merger
EFFECT OF MERGERS ON EMPLOYEES Apoorv Choudhary IIPS DAVV INTRODUCTION
There are contrasting views on the impact of mergers and acquisitions on employees. Many times
field level and management level employees react differently to a merger. Mergers are a form of
consolidation where two or three companies merge and the identity of only the largest company
remain intact and the smaller companies losses their identity. MERGER The combining of two or
more companies, generally by offering the stockholders of one company securities in the acquiring
company in exchange for the surrender of the stock of the merging company. In a merger existing
stockholders of both companies involved retain a shared interest in the new corporation. ... Show more

These layoffs may have long lasting traumatic and negative effect on workers who have been fired as
well as the workers who survive may suffer survivors syndrome. EFFECT OF MERGER: A case of
SBI and SBIndore merger: Many newspaper reports during the time of the State Bank of India and
State Bank of Indore merger lead us to the following facts about the perception of employees towards
the big merger: The management level employees of State bank of Indore supported merger because
of the benefits proposed like pension plan and group insurance, increased salary and bonuses etc. The
clerical staff of State Bank of Indore protested the merger and even went to strike for certain demands
such as the policy for union should remain unchanged as the new policy empowers the management
rather than the union. For the same reason they went on a short term strike too. After merger the
employees from S. B. Indore were transferred to distant areas as a result of reshuffling of manpower.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The objective of the research article is to observe how mergers affect
the employees, the human resource, of the merging companies. The primary objective of the research
is to study the impact of mergers on the employees

Thesis For A P By John Updike
Essay 1: A P Have you ever seen people just talk about the point of view as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person?
Well the point of view is more important than you might think, the point of view sets the whole story
together because without the point of view we wouldn t be able to know who is talking or how the
main character feels. A P is a great example of point of view . (Thesis statement) In this
short/Humorous story, A P , John Updike includes lots of details on how the viewer s perspective of
the situation matters since the situation mostly surrounds the speaker throughout the story and main
details happen because of them and involves them. Sammy, the main character talking in the story,
gives lots of details to what he sees and what he thinks. He describes the three girls (Queenie, Plaid,
and Big Tall Goony Goony) as wearing only bikinis, how their face looked, and how they act. Sammy
notice all the features of the three girls and explained it very understandable. The one that caught my
eye first was the one in the plaid green two piece. She was a chunky kid, with a good tan and a sweet
broad soft looking can with those two crescents of White under it, where the ... Show more content on

Sammy also ends up talking about what they were doing around the store and then the 3 girls go up to
Sammy s checkout lane. Sammy seems to like Queenie, and we only know that because he s the
speaker and if he wasn t the speaker we wouldn t know if he likes Queenie or not. For example, if the
story s speaker was Lengel, then we wouldn t have heard about the three girls looking for something
to buy and what their description was. Lengel didn t arrive to A P until later into the story so he didn t
know about Stokesie messing around with Sammy, or that Sammy was looking at the girl s every

The Importance Of Setting In Blood Red Horse
The setting creates challenges and opportunities for characters. For example when Ellie was left
vulnerable and when the climber in the poem Ascent has finger pain. In all different genres, setting
affects the text whether it s physical challenges or emotional challenges.
In the novel Blood Red Horse, the author, K.M Grant, uses the setting to add conflict, challenges, and
opportunities to the story. In Blood Red Horse the setting, which is in the time of the crusades, affects
the character Ellie as it leaves her defenseless. In Blood Red Horse, the author writes, I do know you
can no longer marry Gavin De Granville. This means you will be fair game for knights on the prowl
(248). Because the setting takes place in a time of war Ellie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The climber has one place to go, to the top, this is an opportunity to prove everyone wrong, and smash

Essay on Analysis of Marie Kashpaw in the Film Saint Marie
Marie Kashpaw/Lazarre transitions successfully from not knowing who she is to being proud of who
she has become. She is able to come out of bad experiences and use them to improve and guide her.
She learns from her mistakes is able to look at her own flaws which help her grow as a person. She is
not too ashamed to be able to say that she was naive, ignorant, or made the wrong decision. She thinks
before she acts with a plan in mind.
In Saint Marie (1934) Marie is only fourteen years old and is trying to find her identity and sense of
importance. Even though she is half native american and half white, she doesn t feel like she is fully
accepted into either community. In order to find her calling, she believes she can prove herself good ...

A big part of the reason Leopolda saw Marie as different proved to be that Marie was part Native
American which meant that Satan had a stronger presence in her than the other white children. In
many ways Marie Lazzare proves herself to be heroic throughout both stories Saint Marie and Flesh
and Blood (1957). Even though she is only fourteen in Saint Marie she successfully escaped a
dangerous situation with a mixture of luck and intelligence. Marie uses intuition, strength, and impulse
to break free from Leopolda s grasp, while at the same time being lucky enough to be successful at
escaping by fooling the other nuns. At the same time she is an anti hero because Marie put herself in
that situation not because she primarily wanted to be part of that religion, but because she was trying
to fit in where she felt welcomed which is caused by her naivety.
When she goes back to see her years later, Leopolda is very unwell, sickly, and skinny. Leopolda lives
a very stagnant life. She lives in the same room at the convent that she always has and she is in bed
most of the day. In a lot of ways Marie is lucky that she didn t go down the same path as Leopolda like
she wanted to initially. We are able to see that twenty years later Marie feels sorry for her which
indicates that Marie is satisfied with what she has done with her life.
Marie can still sometimes seem childish for example in Flesh and Blood she wants to show off how
successful and well she

Lycidas Poem Analysis
The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body
Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a
fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the
figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the
various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for
instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent
as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element
which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept
Lycidas death.
The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia
whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek
pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132)
the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice
with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s
herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas
to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or
Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that
the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it.
The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and
flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine,
pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels
are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his
poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. When the speaker
mentions the rathe primrose (142), a flower that blooms early

Zoroastrianism A Religion
Consider the question of whether Judaism is essentially a religion, a race, a culture, or something else.
Support your response by making reference to key events, individuals, or beliefs as they relate to the
origin and historical development of Judaism.
When it comes to the discussion as to what constitutes as Judaism, I believe that it is important to
remember that the discussion as to what is Judaism is quite debatable. The discussion of what
constitutes Judaism as it comes to the Jewish identity has brought many different many different
definitions among those who have studied relevant fields. Additionally, when attempting ... Show

At that time most within the area of Persia followed the various deities of the Irano Aryan religion,
however, Zarathustra brought up a different faith system (Bekhrad, 2017). His belief system firstly
placed emphasis on the idea of monotheism (as opposed to the polytheism of Irano Aryan religion)
since he felt there was only one god named Ahura Mazda who was worthy of their worship (Bekhrad,
2017). While the concept of monotheism was the central point within Zoroastrianism, other
theological aspects which were present in his religious thought includes Angra Mainyu (the evil spirit
who in some aspects was like Satan), heaven and hell, and a collection of scripture called Avesta
(Corduan, 2015). Zoroastrianism had a strong influence on other religious movements and played a
role in part in shaping the theology which they held (Bekhrad, 2017). The first example of this would
have to be with regards to the Jewish religion since it shows many parallels with Zoroastrianism s
beliefs (Bekhrad, 2017). Such examples of these similarities would have to include that of
monotheism (God and Ahura Mazda), the idea of a collection of scriptures (Torah and Avesta), and
belief in upcoming messianic figures (the Messiah and Sayoshant) (Corduan, 2015). Such influence is
likely to have occurred since the Jews and the Persians are known to have had relations with each
other and likely they passed along theological ideas (Bekhrad, 2017). A second way that
Zoroastrianism influenced a religion would have to be that of Islam (Stepaniants, 2002). Such
influence again can be seen with certain parallels between the two religions, but the method of
influence is different. During the Muslim conquests that occurred in the Middle Ages, one of the
consequences was that they gained power

Pros And Cons Of Netflix
Monopolies
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
James Coward Abstract Most Americans tend to put very little thought into the companies that supply
them with their goods and services, however, even less tend to think about how those companies have
a monopoly on the market and what affect that has on small businesses and local producers and
consumers. Aside from the game of Monopoly, few people have had any real desire to control a
market or hold a majority of the shares in a particular sector; these following companies have a
monopoly on their respective markets and it is typically taken for grated by the general population.

A lot of people rely on them without even realizing it. Some of the cons of monopolies include price
fixing that is associated with a monopoly being able to set whichever price they choose for a product
or service simply because the law allows them to do so and there is no viable substitute that can
compete with the monopoly company s product. As has been stated multiple times, monopolies
control the market and are able to provide inferior goods if they so choose at the standard rate.
Monopolies are able to reduce operating costs while keeping prices fixed or elevated. Competition
typically breeds innovation. Companies are searching for the newest and greatest product that will
continue to keep them on top of the market. When a monopoly has a grip on a market, the need to be
innovative and appealing to their customers can quite often disappear. Until the next generation of
technology comes around that allows customers to have an acceptable substitute for the monopoly s
product, customers can be stuck with inferior technology for much longer than is

In The Bissula Analysis
In his pioneering work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon
writes that the poetical fame of Ausonius condemns the taste of his age. Indeed, Ausonius s work may
seem uncomplicated on the surface: he borrows heavily from previous literature and uses
straightforward syntax. However, his work contains depth beyond its ostensible simplicity: it blends
genres and uses consistent themes as narrative foci to guide the reader. In two of his most prominent
poems, liquid (as water and drink) is the key interpretive control: In the Bissula, alcohol provides
wisdom that counters the confining seriousness of sobriety, while in the Moselle the river provides
calm comfort that contrasts with the hectic unnatural world. Throughout both poems, Ausonius
consistently uses liquid to contrast the serenity and clarity provided by water and drink with the chaos
of the dry world. In the Bissula, alcohol plays a key role as the interpretive control. Ausonius
addresses the reader directly, proclaiming that his poems are unserious. He writes that I follow
Thymele (4), classifying his work as relaxing entertainment more than serious literature. Indeed, he
requests that the reader drink before you read (6) in order to best understand the poem. While alcohol
is typically associated with confusion and dulled wit, Ausonius claims that the drunk reader will get
wise to me (8). With this subversion of expectations, Ausonius proclaims drink as a tool to achieve

Effects Of The Domino Theory On The Vietnam War
he Vietnam War was an extension of Cold War An Ideological conflict between Capitalism and
Communism (1965 1975)The US joined the war to stop the spreading of Communism( didn t want
Russia to gain more allies as they had in Cold War) , under the Domino effect theory (first developed
under the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower) applying this theory to South East Asia it argued that if
South Vietnam was taken by communists, then the other countries in the region such as Laos,
Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia and Indonesia, would follow. The United States of America s
intention to stop the domino effect in Vietnam failed as in 1975 North Vietnamese forces marched into
Saigon. However communism itself did not spread throughout the rest of South east Asia.
After World War 1 the United States of America established itself as a formidable opponent and a
world power, World War 2 confirmed the superiority of the United States military and the unstoppable
patriotism of its people, Cold War showed that the government could negotiate peacefully instead of
directly waging yet another conflict. The main problem that led to the Vietnam War and the United

The Cruel And Inhumane Fur Industry
The Cruel and Inhumane Fur Industry Many people who wear fur are not aware with the sad reality
behind its production. Fur is associated with glamor and wealth. However, the truth is entirely
different. Annually, millions of animals are brutally killed for their skin in the name of fashion. Coats,
accessories, hats, scarves, and other fancy items are made from these innocent beings. They spend
their entire life in tiny cages, often with diseases, and at the end beaten, skinned alive and thrown onto
a pile. It may sound terrifying, but this practice happens on a daily basis. Before buying fur, people
should be well informed that their trendy items come from cruel, needless, and bad for the
environment industry. The main countries that produce farm fur are China, Canada, United States,
Russia, and various Eastern European countries. China is the major fur s exporter. The fur industry is
the only industry that is unregulated by the federal government. Animals raised for fur in farms
include minks, foxes, chinchillas, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Also, there are beautiful wild animals such
as raccoons, wolves, coyotes, and more who are locked in steel jaw traps while free in nature and then
forced to live in cages their whole lives. According to PETA Organization, Animals who are trapped in
the wild can suffer for days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by

Fall Of Yugoslavia
Yugoslavia fell in the 1990 s into a mess of right wing nationalistic states at war, resulted in numerous
war crime, the bitter end was the result of the fragmented political atmosphere in the wake of Tito s
death. Significantly, though, the Soviet Union came to a relatively peaceful end due to Gorbachev s
leadership style, while the inability for different factions to compromise led to Milošević s rise and the
disturbing events of the 1990 s. Tito s government, while deservedly less notorious than Stalin s, was
not able to achieve much economic success, and after his death the country s centralized leadership
began to fragment. Tito was replaced with a collective presidency, but this system began to fall apart

While Tito s oppression may have made people more intrigued by its rise after his death, this fails to
explain why things ended the way they did. When Stalin died things changed in the USSR, but it didn
t fall. And notably, Yugoslavia remained (de facto) unified until 1992, twelve years after Tito s death. I
m convinced that things happened the way they did because nationalism appealed to the people;
Milošević sought to keep Yugoslavia unified, but with Serbian supremacy, a promise which would
have sounded good if you were a Serbian worried about the future of your people and your nation, and
used heinous means to try to achieve his goal. Perhaps if some sort of plan had been made prior to Tito
s death that addressed the problems that could arise, Yugoslavia may have lasted longer. Some people
certainly hold onto memories of a time when Yugoslavia was at peace, what Dubravka Ugrešić called
Yugonostalgia in her novel The Ministry of Pain, indicating that there may have been the potential for
Yugoslavia to stay how it was had nationalism not been so appealing. In short, Yugoslavia may have

Victim Blaming Sociology
The phenomenon of victim blaming is a multifaceted topic with far reaching consequences. The
tendency to blame innocent victims stems from a need to cope with threats to our concept of reality.
People generally prefer to consider the world to be just a concept that indicates that people get what
they deserve. This just world view is very integral to the worldview of most people, so when it is
threatened, individuals employ defensive strategies to reestablish a sense of justice in the world
(Hafer, 2000). Blaming the victim in some capacity for misfortunes that befall them is a convenient
way to reestablish a just world view. Such misattribution of blame institutes the possibility that
victims of crimes or disease will be mistreated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is more likely that a person will engage in victim blaming when the victim in question is an in group
member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one s in group is
victimized, one s perception of the just world is more likely to be threatened (Correia Vala, 2003).
This is because observers wish to believe themselves as invincible to the same types of misfortune as
those who are victimized, and the more similarities between the observer and the victim, the more the
observer may question this perception of invincibility (Goldenberg Forgas, 2012).
Mood Induction When an individual engages in victim blaming practices, they are attempting to
alleviate psychological discomfort. It is reasonable to suggest, then, that pre existing states of mood
may influence the likelihood of blaming the victim. Mood as resource theory indicates that a positive
mood acts as a resource, which individuals may draw upon when presented with situations that
threaten their world view (Raghunathan Trope, 2002). Because of this, a person in a positive mood is
less likely to engage in victim blaming, while a person in a negative mood is more likely to engage in
victim blaming.

The Dichotomy Of Freedom And Slavery Essay
The dichotomy of freedom and slavery in rhetoric and rise of the United States of America has long
been an enigma, a source of endless debate for scholars and citizens alike who wonder how a nation
steeped in the ideals of republicanism could so easily subjugate and enslave an entire group of people.
The Chesapeake region was home to America s great statesmen, men who espoused ideals of freedom
and liberty from tyranny. Yet at the same time, these men held hundreds of men, women, and children
in conditions of lifelong bondage. How then did this dichotomy arise? The dangers posed by
indentured servants that became freemen resulted in the development of a system of African
descended chattel slavery in the Chesapeake, a system whose creation and continuance was aided by a
continuum of racial thinking and racial prejudice aimed at Africans in Virginia.
From the outset, the issue of labor in the Chesapeake was a dominant force in the creation of colonial
society. The origins of colonial labor rested on the shoulders of indentured servants, often unemployed
laborers from England sent to the colony by the Virginia Company. After serving a term of seven

Literature Review On Resilience
CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW INTRODUCTION This chapter will provide an overview of
resilience and the factors that affect it will be discussed. The literature review will address parental
rearing behaviour, social support as well as religious faith in relation to resilience. Joseph (1994)
defines resilience as the glue that keeps individuals functioning when they are confronted with
misfortunes and challenges. It is also the attitudes, coping behaviour and personal strength in people
who manage adversity and adjust well to changes in their lives, as well as the ability to bounce back
from bad or difficult situations. Resilience is understood as a force or power, coping mechanisms, and
other personal traits that keep individuals going when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Such labels implied that these individuals were in possession of a rare and significant set of qualities
that enabled them to rebound from whatever adversity came their direction, almost as if these
fortunate individuals possessed a sort of innate magical force that protected them form all harm
(Santos, nd) Implicit in the concept of resilience as a dynamic process is the understanding that
resilience can grow or decline over time depending on the interactions taking place between an
individual and their environment and between risk and protective factors in an individual s life
(Borman Rachuba, 2001). The process of resilience is dependent on the factors in a person s
environment and other factors in their life. These concepts will be discussed in detail in the following
paragraphs. Current theories view resilience as a multidimensional construct, which includes
constitutional variables like temperament and personality, in addition to specific skills such as active
problem solving skills that allow individuals to cope well with traumatic life

Sarah Dessen Dreamland
Every person goes through a bad relationship throughout their lives, but one like this at such a young
age can almost be deadly. Sarah Dessen takes us on a journey from heart ache, to mourning, and then
to a self destructing relationship. Don t believe everything you see, it might come back to bite you in
the end. Sarah Dessen is the author of the book Dreamland and through this book she talks about a
struggling high school junior who has all this pressure put on her after her sister ran away. This stress
is then relieved when she gets into a toxic relationship with an older boy. Dessen was probably trying
to interpret that people aren t always who they seem to be. She also hints at that instead of focusing on
relationships you should focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until Cass ran away and her parents had to fill the gap with having their daughter Caitlin fill in the
gaps. Caitlin struggles with feeling alone and in this fragile state of mind she let a boy take advantage
of her and wear her down until she finally broke. Rogerson, the male interest, is a very troubled
person. His abusive behaviour comes from his father we learn that at the beginning of the book, he
didn t start hitting caitlin until the one time she was late. Caitlin is the most important to this story
because it shows how a character can build themselves back up from this low that they let themselves
fall to. The whole story is based around her and her life, and the lessons we do take from this book we
take from her and her experiences. The story takes place in a small town, and as we all know in small
towns everybody knows each other and things go around like wild fire. The fact that it is such a small
town everybody knows about Caitlins problems and later in the story her condition she has to deal
with. This place can be comparable to a place like Alpena, maybe even a little bit

Kaplan University Personal Statement
I am studying at Kaplan University Online to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Nutritional Science. My
dream is to be a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist. KU s B.S.N.S. is not accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), so I will need to apply for
an internship to gain experience in the field, and then apply for the RDN exam. I believe my
personality is well suited to my chosen profession and I m excited about working together with clients
and counseling them in food and nutrition. According to Truity.com, Nutritionists and Dietitians are
experts in food and nutrition (2016, para. 2). They explain and counsel nutritional issues and healthy

Labels And Stereotypes
Life in general is full of labels. When I say labels most people will think of the labels for food, or toys.
I am not talking about those kind of labels. I am talking about the labels we put on people. In other
words they could be called stereotypes. Labels and stereotypes might not seem like a big deal, but it
can be. Labels like gender, race, sexuality,or religion can be very important to know. Those same
labels can be completely useless, and can cause problems. Labels start to cause problems when we use
them in negative ways. For example, when we have a bad or weak throw some will usually say You
throw like a girl. , and that could cause an uproar with some people. That is just a common example
that might not be so horrific. Labels

IMPERIALISM IN MOROCCO
Kendall Scarborough
Ms. Barile
Modern World History Honors
19 December 2016
Europe and specifically France had been after the land in Morocco for a long. As explained by
Furlong in his portion of A World s Work; The French Conquest of Morocco, he states the reason for
European powers wanting control over Morocco.
Morocco is a white man s country once and a half the size of France four and a half times the size of
New England and the most productive state of North Africa perhaps the most productive area of the
entire African continent. A key to the Mediterranean almost touching Europe and a veritable market
garden for that continent contiguous to the
French territory of Algeria and but seven hundred miles from Marseilles with double the population of
Algeria and Tunisia combined good climate variety of mountains and plains including the snow
crowned classic Atlas range which shuts off or cools the heated winds that blow up from the desert a
rich fertile soil abundant rainfall well distributed rivers and a coastline of 1300 miles 300 on the
Mediterranean 1000 on the Atlantic
Morocco is indeed the golden orange of Barbary and cannot escape the international grab bag of
Europe (Furlong).
The size of Morocco compared to those of other European nations and other geographical features
made Morocco a valuable asset to the imperial powers. In the beginning of the 20th century Morocco
had become a protectorate of France, and

Analysis Of `` For Esme, With Love And Squalor ``
In his short story, For Esmé, with Love and Squalor, J.D. Salinger utilizes the function of secondary
characters to expose the correlation between the contrasting ideas of idealism and cynicism. The three
minor characters of Esmé, her brother Charles, and Corporal Z all play different but necessary roles in
the mental and emotional development of the main character, Sergeant X. While the characters of
Esmé and Charles represent the best traits of humanity, their lifestyles contrast that of Corporal Z, a
pessimistic and rude war veteran. After Salinger sets a standard of ideal human nature through the two
siblings and their interaction with Sergeant X, he purposefully introduces Corporal Z into the story to
help demonstrate the differences between the personalities of idealistic and cynical people; in doing
so, Salinger reveals relationships between youthful innocence and idealism, as well as arrogance and
cynicism.
Esmé s commendable traits, such as her compassion and sophistication, reflect her perfection in the
eyes of Sergeant X. From the time she first talks to him at the restaurant, Esmé puts forth effort to
develop a friendship and unique bond with the struggling soldier. After Esmé comments to Sergeant
X, I d be extremely flattered if you d write a story exclusively for me sometime, she reminds him, It
doesn t have to be terribly prolific! Just so that it isn t childish and silly. [...] I prefer stories about
squalor (151). Other than showing her friendly

Beethoven Ode To Joy Symphony
As we all have heard music from the classical or romantic period, my paticular well known favorite
songs are Ode to Joy, Symphony #5, and Fur Elsie played and composed by one of the worlds
greastest Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany to Maria Magdalena van Beethoven
and Johann van Beethoven. Beethovens father was a musician himself who seen what musical
possibilities his son had at such a young age. Beethoven was waken up all times of the night just to
practice the keyboard until the sun had rose. Unlike his father, beethovens grandfather Kapellmeister
Ludwig van Beethoven was also a musician himself who had endless pride in his grandchild.

Descriptive Essay On The Insane Asylum
The Insane Asylum.
One day I walked into one of my client s room and stopped dead. Written in what looked like charcoal
was a bunch of people s torsos and heads. There was blood all over the bed and the client was under
the bed literally deflated. No bones, blood, organs, just the skin and eyeballs. I had immediately ran
back out and got a guard and when we came back to the room the body was gone. One of the drawings
had a great big x across it written in more blood. Freaking out, we had called the cops and shut and
locked every door. Two weeks had passed the police force couldn t figure out who had killed the man,
especially since there was no body to work with. Going back into the crime scene I counted all the
people on the wall. The same amount on the wall was the same amount of clients we had plus one.
Just then I heard a high pitched scream and watched a great big x appear in blood on a charcoaled
person. I knew immediately what had happened.
Racing toward the scream looking through the rooms I saw something that will haunt my dreams
forever. A client was throwing up all her own blood, organs, and bones with a shadowy figure behind
her holding a bottle. Right after I burst into her room the lights flickered off into a complete darkness.
I was pushed down and a drop acid green liquid landed on my shoulder and burned me. It hurt so bad
that it had knocked me out cold.
When I had awaken I was on the couch in my boss s office. He looked grave as he spoke, As I hear it
you were in Elena s room when she died and I would like to know everything that had happened. The
sooner you tell me the better because there are five dead in total now.
Well, I heard a scream and I started running to the noise looking through the rooms as I passed. When
I got to her room I had looked through and she was vomiting her bones, organs, and blood up. There
was also a shadow like object or... or a someone holding a bottle. I ran into the room and it went pitch
black something knocked me over and then green acid type stuff landed on my shoulder and burned
me. That is all I remember.
Well, I don t know what to do except to move them out of the hospital completely or to station a guard
right outside of each room. There was a long

Conga Drum In American Culture
Drums have always had a significant role in culture. The drum serves as the pulse of many nations and
peoples and has historically had a dominant role in many of the rituals and ceremonies of the African,
Latin American, and American Indian cultures. In Africa the drum is considered a sacred tool in
ceremonies and rituals that are a part of the culture. Africa is a large continent, and drums and their
use is different from country to country as the continent is large. In West Africa, the drum can be used
for communicative purposes to call meetings or to announce the death of someone important. This
communication is made with a talking drum. The talking drum is hourglass shaped and its pitch can
mimic the tone of human speech by squeezing the cords of the two drumheads between the arms and
body. It can also be used to send signals. Traditional African religious activities such as communal
prayers, rain making, healing ceremonies, and rituals associated with purging evil in society are made
complete by drumming. (Kiarie 2) The Conga drum, is used in traditional religious ceremonies in the
Conga region. The Conga drum is a single head drum made from stretching a goat skin over a hollow
log. Drums can be found at most African family events including weddings, funerals, marriages, and
birth celebrations.

Analysis Of Issac Asimov s I Robot
Robots are a more important part of society now then they have ever been. Issac Asimov lived in a
time where robots were merely an idea, but that didn t stop him from using this idea of a robot to
represent different aspects of humanity throughout the chapters of his book I, Robot. Asimov s book
reflects on human nature and what it means to be human. Reflecting can help people to better
understand themselves and the people that surround them. One part of human nature that Asimov
brings up is the idea that even lies with good intentions can cause harm. In I, Robot, one of the robots
has the ability to read minds, but the first Law of Robotics does not allow robots to harm human in
any way, including hurt feelings. Do you suppose that if I asked a question, it wouldn t give exactly
that answer that one wants to hear? Wouldn t any other answer hurt us, and wouldn t Herbie know
that? (Asimov 108). This robot was doing everything it could not to hurt any of the humans and it did
this by lying to them. This is something that many people can relate to, whether it is lying to someone
by telling them they threw a good party or that it couldn t be attended because of a fake appointment,
telling the truth wouldn t benefit anyone. By recognizing that lying is a part of human nature, it can be
understood why someone might choose to lie. The relationships made throughout life would only
benefit from empathizing with another s thought process. Asimov adds to the idea of

Education Policy Synthesis Essay
While many White Americans believe in merit based accomplishments, and that everyone has equal
opportunity to succeed, the achievement of minority groups is not welcome. Authors Chavez et al.,
outline the undocumented immigrant student experience, and how white meritocracy is merely a pipe
dream for those students. (2007) As young children, undocumented students, sometimes not aware of
their status, are told that if they work hard throughout their entire elementary/high school career, that
work will be paid off with acceptance into a university, or a good job.
According to Gillborn (2007), there are priorities that are considered when creating education policy,
and those priorities often only align with the interest of white individuals. Following ... Show more

Gillborn addresses how minoritized students have not shared equally in the improved attainments
associated with recent reforms, his example being testing and model minorities , can be applied to
undocumented students and the DREAM ACT. Actually the exact opposite of the model minority , due
to the fears Americans hold towards undocumented peoples becoming citizens through the DREAM
Act. Lastly, what are the effects of the policy? Central reform strategies are known to work against
race equity, but are nevertheless promoted as best practice for all. These reforms are known to
discriminate in practice regardless of intent, and are therefore racist in their consequences. (2007) In
regards to undocumented students, the long term implications of limiting access to higher education
are significant, and the restriction of education will perpetuate exclusion and stratification of minority
ethnic and immigrant groups. (Palmer, 2011) Not providing undocumented students with access to
higher education is only hurting the U.S. in the long run as well as the students. Yet, when white
individuals are creating or rejecting education policies that they think are for the best, in actuality
undocumented students suffer and the U.S. economy takes a

The use of animal models of asthma has dramatically increased our understanding of the underlying
mechanisms of allergic asthma. The importance of Th2 cytokines have been highlighted by numerous
studies in mice. Specifically, Th2 lymphocytes produce various proinflammatory cytokines that have

  • 2. The Importance Of The Number Of Physical Therapy Sessions... Background and Purpose: SLAP is a superior labrum tear in an anterior to posterior direction of the shoulder, affecting more than 4000 people in a year. Usually men between the ages of 20 30 and 40 50. The purpose of this case report is to show the relevance of the number of physical therapy sessions after a SLAP surgery repair. Case Description: The patient was a 41 year old male kinesiology professor physically active in volleyball, weight training, and cross fit. The patient was diagnosed with a SLAP type II tear and micro fracture visible on an MRI with arthrogram. Outcome measures employed were the QuickDASH for functional disability symptoms and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to report the level of pain. Some of the interventions used in this case were grade I/II manipulations, pendulum, cryotherapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, PNF exercises, and closed kinetic chain activities. Outcomes: After 27 physical therapy visits post surgeries in a period of 6 months the patient reported no perceived work disability after 52 weeks. Nonetheless, some functional disability was experienced when it came to general activities and sports between 4 to 13 percent based on the QuickDASH. Pain levels reported by the VAS remained considerable low. The subject reported the pain level between 0 4 on a 10 scale; pain decreased to zero by week 10. Discussion: Decreasing the number of therapy visits and increasing the interval of time off between them, patients might be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many times field level and management level employees react differently to a merger. Mergers are a form of consolidation where two or three companies merge and the identity of only the largest company remain intact and the smaller companies losses their identity. EFFECT OF MERGER: A case of SBI and SBIndore merger: Many newspaper reports during the time of the State Bank of India and State Bank of Indore merger lead us to the following facts about the perception of employees towards the big merger: The management level employees of State bank of Indore supported merger because of the benefits proposed like pension plan and group insurance, increased salary and bonuses etc. The clerical staff of State Bank of Indore protested the merger and even went to strike for certain demands such as the policy for union should remain unchanged as the new policy empowers the management rather than the union. For the same reason they went on a short term strike too. After merger the employees from S. B. Indore were transferred to distant areas as a result of reshuffling of manpower. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The objective of the research article is to observe how mergers affect the employees, the human resource, of the merging companies. • 4. Thesis For A P By John Updike Essay 1: A P Have you ever seen people just talk about the point of view as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person? Well the point of view is more important than you might think, the point of view sets the whole story together because without the point of view we wouldn t be able to know who is talking or how the main character feels. A P is a great example of point of view . (Thesis statement) In this short/Humorous story, A P , John Updike includes lots of details on how the viewer s perspective of the situation matters since the situation mostly surrounds the speaker throughout the story and main details happen because of them and involves them. Sammy, the main character talking in the story, gives lots of details to what he sees and what he thinks. He describes the three girls (Queenie, Plaid, and Big Tall Goony Goony) as wearing only bikinis, how their face looked, and how they act. Sammy notice all the features of the three girls and explained it very understandable. The one that caught my eye first was the one in the plaid green two piece. Sammy seems to like Queenie, and we only know that because he s the speaker and if he wasn t the speaker we wouldn t know if he likes Queenie or not. For example, if the story s speaker was Lengel, then we wouldn t have heard about the three girls looking for something to buy and what their description was. Lengel didn t arrive to A P until later into the story so he didn t know about Stokesie messing around with Sammy, or that Sammy was looking at the girl s every move, or that Sammy kept ... • 5. The Importance Of Setting In Blood Red Horse The setting creates challenges and opportunities for characters. For example when Ellie was left vulnerable and when the climber in the poem Ascent has finger pain. In all different genres, setting affects the text whether it s physical challenges or emotional challenges. In the novel Blood Red Horse, the author, K.M Grant, uses the setting to add conflict, challenges, and opportunities to the story. In Blood Red Horse the setting, which is in the time of the crusades, affects the character Ellie as it leaves her defenseless. • 6. Essay on Analysis of Marie Kashpaw in the Film Saint Marie Marie Kashpaw/Lazarre transitions successfully from not knowing who she is to being proud of who she has become. She is able to come out of bad experiences and use them to improve and guide her. She learns from her mistakes is able to look at her own flaws which help her grow as a person. She is not too ashamed to be able to say that she was naive, ignorant, or made the wrong decision. She thinks before she acts with a plan in mind. In Saint Marie (1934) Marie is only fourteen years old and is trying to find her identity and sense of importance. Even though she is half native american and half white, she doesn t feel like she is fully accepted into either community. In order to find her calling, she believes she can prove herself good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A big part of the reason Leopolda saw Marie as different proved to be that Marie was part Native American which meant that Satan had a stronger presence in her than the other white children. In many ways Marie Lazzare proves herself to be heroic throughout both stories Saint Marie and Flesh and Blood (1957). Even though she is only fourteen in Saint Marie she successfully escaped a dangerous situation with a mixture of luck and intelligence. Marie uses intuition, strength, and impulse to break free from Leopolda s grasp, while at the same time being lucky enough to be successful at escaping by fooling the other nuns. At the same time she is an anti hero because Marie put herself in that situation not because she primarily wanted to be part of that religion, but because she was trying to fit in where she felt welcomed which is caused by her naivety. When she goes back to see her years later, Leopolda is very unwell, sickly, and skinny. Leopolda lives a very stagnant life. She lives in the same room at the convent that she always has and she is in bed most of the day. In a lot of ways Marie is lucky that she didn t go down the same path as Leopolda like she wanted to initially. We are able to see that twenty years later Marie feels sorry for her which indicates that Marie is satisfied with what she has done with her life. Marie can still sometimes seem childish for example in Flesh and Blood she wants to show off how successful and well she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Lycidas Poem Analysis The Crisis of Lycidas Absent Body Lycidas is a pastoral elegy in which the speaker, a shepherd, mourns the death of his friend Lycidas, a fellow shepherd and talented poet, who had drowned at sea. However, as the poem progresses, the figure of Lycidas fades into the background as the writing of the poem becomes overwhelmed by the various crises that the speaker experiences and other poetic voices those of Phoebus and St. Peter, for instance interrupt. The ninth verse paragraph of Lycidas marks the poem s return to its elegiac intent as the speaker experiences another crisis in which he laments Lycidas absent body, a recurring element which, when addressed by the speaker directly, allows the speaker to properly mourn and accept Lycidas death. The ninth verse paragraph begins with a plea, Return, Alpheus (132), Alpheus being a river in Arcadia whose waters mix with the fountain Arethuse, referenced earlier in the poem to represent Greek pastoral poetry. The speaker persuades Alpheus to return by stating that the dread voice is past (132) the dread voice being St. Peter, who in the previous verse paragraph interrupted the speaker s voice with a vicious condemnation of shepherds. The verse paragraph before was taken over by Neptune s herald, and the one before by Phoebus. As the poem progresses, it begins to move away from Lycidas to the point that the ninth verse paragraph is the first one since the fifth that mentions Lycidas, or Lycid (151), by name. By calling on Alpheus and the Sicilian Muse (133), the speaker recognizes that the elegy has veered from its original intent and he wishes to return to it. The speaker first does this by invoking the Sicilian Muse to call the vales (134) to gather a plants and flowers to adorn Lycidas dead body. The speaker specifically calls for primrose, crowtoe, jessamine, pansies, violets, woodbine, cowslips, amaranthus, daffodils, and laurels. (142 47,149 150)The laurels are significant as an emblem of poetry and its presence on Lycidas hearse (151) praises him for his poetry, but there is a sense of sadness and grief embedded within the floral imagery. Support your response by making reference to key events, individuals, or beliefs as they relate to the origin and historical development of Judaism. When it comes to the discussion as to what constitutes as Judaism, I believe that it is important to remember that the discussion as to what is Judaism is quite debatable. At that time most within the area of Persia followed the various deities of the Irano Aryan religion, however, Zarathustra brought up a different faith system (Bekhrad, 2017). His belief system firstly placed emphasis on the idea of monotheism (as opposed to the polytheism of Irano Aryan religion) since he felt there was only one god named Ahura Mazda who was worthy of their worship (Bekhrad, 2017). While the concept of monotheism was the central point within Zoroastrianism, other theological aspects which were present in his religious thought includes Angra Mainyu (the evil spirit who in some aspects was like Satan), heaven and hell, and a collection of scripture called Avesta (Corduan, 2015). Zoroastrianism had a strong influence on other religious movements and played a role in part in shaping the theology which they held (Bekhrad, 2017). The first example of this would have to be with regards to the Jewish religion since it shows many parallels with Zoroastrianism s beliefs (Bekhrad, 2017). Such examples of these similarities would have to include that of monotheism (God and Ahura Mazda), the idea of a collection of scriptures (Torah and Avesta), and belief in upcoming messianic figures (the Messiah and Sayoshant) (Corduan, 2015). Such influence is likely to have occurred since the Jews and the Persians are known to have had relations with each other and likely they passed along theological ideas (Bekhrad, 2017). A second way that Zoroastrianism influenced a religion would have to be that of Islam (Stepaniants, 2002). Such influence again can be seen with certain parallels between the two religions, but the method of influence is different. During the Muslim conquests that occurred in the Middle Ages, one of the consequences was that they gained power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aside from the game of Monopoly, few people have had any real desire to control a market or hold a majority of the shares in a particular sector; these following companies have a monopoly on their respective markets and it is typically taken for grated by the general population. As has been stated multiple times, monopolies control the market and are able to provide inferior goods if they so choose at the standard rate. Monopolies are able to reduce operating costs while keeping prices fixed or elevated. Competition typically breeds innovation. Companies are searching for the newest and greatest product that will continue to keep them on top of the market. • 13. In The Bissula Analysis In his pioneering work, The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Edward Gibbon writes that the poetical fame of Ausonius condemns the taste of his age. Indeed, Ausonius s work may seem uncomplicated on the surface: he borrows heavily from previous literature and uses straightforward syntax. However, his work contains depth beyond its ostensible simplicity: it blends genres and uses consistent themes as narrative foci to guide the reader. In two of his most prominent poems, liquid (as water and drink) is the key interpretive control: In the Bissula, alcohol provides wisdom that counters the confining seriousness of sobriety, while in the Moselle the river provides calm comfort that contrasts with the hectic unnatural world. Throughout both poems, Ausonius consistently uses liquid to contrast the serenity and clarity provided by water and drink with the chaos of the dry world. In the Bissula, alcohol plays a key role as the interpretive control. Ausonius addresses the reader directly, proclaiming that his poems are unserious. He writes that I follow Thymele (4), classifying his work as relaxing entertainment more than serious literature. Indeed, he requests that the reader drink before you read (6) in order to best understand the poem. While alcohol is typically associated with confusion and dulled wit, Ausonius claims that the drunk reader will get wise to me (8). With this subversion of expectations, Ausonius proclaims drink as a tool to achieve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects Of The Domino Theory On The Vietnam War he Vietnam War was an extension of Cold War An Ideological conflict between Capitalism and Communism (1965 1975)The US joined the war to stop the spreading of Communism( didn t want Russia to gain more allies as they had in Cold War) , under the Domino effect theory (first developed under the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower) applying this theory to South East Asia it argued that if South Vietnam was taken by communists, then the other countries in the region such as Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, Malaysia and Indonesia, would follow. The United States of America s intention to stop the domino effect in Vietnam failed as in 1975 North Vietnamese forces marched into Saigon. However communism itself did not spread throughout the rest of South east Asia. After World War 1 the United States of America established itself as a formidable opponent and a world power, World War 2 confirmed the superiority of the United States military and the unstoppable patriotism of its people, Cold War showed that the government could negotiate peacefully instead of directly waging yet another conflict. The ward meetings in Chapter Five demonstrate the domination techniques that Ratched uses to exert her control. She starts the meeting by bringing up Harding s problems and humiliating him by describing his personal and psychological problems, then asking the other patients to comment on the problems she has described. She attempts to reveal Harding s weakness and then let all of the patients follow her lead. This indicates that she sets them all against each other and keeps them all feeling weak, so she can easier dominate them all when they end up hurting each other and making it worse. • 17. The Cruel And Inhumane Fur Industry The Cruel and Inhumane Fur Industry Many people who wear fur are not aware with the sad reality behind its production. Fur is associated with glamor and wealth. However, the truth is entirely different. Annually, millions of animals are brutally killed for their skin in the name of fashion. Coats, accessories, hats, scarves, and other fancy items are made from these innocent beings. They spend their entire life in tiny cages, often with diseases, and at the end beaten, skinned alive and thrown onto a pile. It may sound terrifying, but this practice happens on a daily basis. Before buying fur, people should be well informed that their trendy items come from cruel, needless, and bad for the environment industry. The main countries that produce farm fur are China, Canada, United States, Russia, and various Eastern European countries. China is the major fur s exporter. The fur industry is the only industry that is unregulated by the federal government. Animals raised for fur in farms include minks, foxes, chinchillas, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Also, there are beautiful wild animals such as raccoons, wolves, coyotes, and more who are locked in steel jaw traps while free in nature and then forced to live in cages their whole lives. Fall Of Yugoslavia Yugoslavia fell in the 1990 s into a mess of right wing nationalistic states at war, resulted in numerous war crime, the bitter end was the result of the fragmented political atmosphere in the wake of Tito s death. Significantly, though, the Soviet Union came to a relatively peaceful end due to Gorbachev s leadership style, while the inability for different factions to compromise led to Milošević s rise and the disturbing events of the 1990 s. Tito s government, while deservedly less notorious than Stalin s, was not able to achieve much economic success, and after his death the country s centralized leadership began to fragment. While Tito s oppression may have made people more intrigued by its rise after his death, this fails to explain why things ended the way they did. When Stalin died things changed in the USSR, but it didn t fall. And notably, Yugoslavia remained (de facto) unified until 1992, twelve years after Tito s death. I m convinced that things happened the way they did because nationalism appealed to the people; Milošević sought to keep Yugoslavia unified, but with Serbian supremacy, a promise which would have sounded good if you were a Serbian worried about the future of your people and your nation, and used heinous means to try to achieve his goal. Perhaps if some sort of plan had been made prior to Tito s death that addressed the problems that could arise, Yugoslavia may have lasted longer. Some people certainly hold onto memories of a time when Yugoslavia was at peace, what Dubravka Ugrešić called Yugonostalgia in her novel The Ministry of Pain, indicating that there may have been the potential for Yugoslavia to stay how it was had nationalism not been so appealing. In short, Yugoslavia may have been an old man no longer in his prime, but nationalism murdered it, and Tito s death laid the gun on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Victim Blaming Sociology The phenomenon of victim blaming is a multifaceted topic with far reaching consequences. The tendency to blame innocent victims stems from a need to cope with threats to our concept of reality. People generally prefer to consider the world to be just a concept that indicates that people get what they deserve. This just world view is very integral to the worldview of most people, so when it is threatened, individuals employ defensive strategies to reestablish a sense of justice in the world (Hafer, 2000). Blaming the victim in some capacity for misfortunes that befall them is a convenient way to reestablish a just world view. Such misattribution of blame institutes the possibility that victims of crimes or disease will be mistreated and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is more likely that a person will engage in victim blaming when the victim in question is an in group member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one s in group is victimized, one s perception of the just world is more likely to be threatened (Correia Vala, 2003). This is because observers wish to believe themselves as invincible to the same types of misfortune as those who are victimized, and the more similarities between the observer and the victim, the more the observer may question this perception of invincibility (Goldenberg Forgas, 2012). Mood Induction When an individual engages in victim blaming practices, they are attempting to alleviate psychological discomfort. It is reasonable to suggest, then, that pre existing states of mood may influence the likelihood of blaming the victim. Mood as resource theory indicates that a positive mood acts as a resource, which individuals may draw upon when presented with situations that threaten their world view (Raghunathan Trope, 2002). Because of this, a person in a positive mood is less likely to engage in victim blaming, while a person in a negative mood is more likely to engage in victim blaming. Specific Aims/Research ... • 20. The Dichotomy Of Freedom And Slavery Essay The dichotomy of freedom and slavery in rhetoric and rise of the United States of America has long been an enigma, a source of endless debate for scholars and citizens alike who wonder how a nation steeped in the ideals of republicanism could so easily subjugate and enslave an entire group of people. The Chesapeake region was home to America s great statesmen, men who espoused ideals of freedom and liberty from tyranny. Yet at the same time, these men held hundreds of men, women, and children in conditions of lifelong bondage. How then did this dichotomy arise? The dangers posed by indentured servants that became freemen resulted in the development of a system of African descended chattel slavery in the Chesapeake, a system whose creation and continuance was aided by a continuum of racial thinking and racial prejudice aimed at Africans in Virginia. From the outset, the issue of labor in the Chesapeake was a dominant force in the creation of colonial society. The origins of colonial labor rested on the shoulders of indentured servants, often unemployed laborers from England sent to the colony by the Virginia Company. After serving a term of seven years, each servant was then entitled to freedom and the opportunity to work in the colony to best achieve individual benefits and the success offered by the New World. The early generations of these servants turned freemen posed little problem to their former masters as they constituted to small a segment of the population to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The literature review will address parental rearing behaviour, social support as well as religious faith in relation to resilience. Joseph (1994) defines resilience as the glue that keeps individuals functioning when they are confronted with misfortunes and challenges. It is also the attitudes, coping behaviour and personal strength in people who manage adversity and adjust well to changes in their lives, as well as the ability to bounce back from bad or difficult situations. The process of resilience is dependent on the factors in a person s environment and other factors in their life. These concepts will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs. • 26. Analysis Of `` For Esme, With Love And Squalor `` In his short story, For Esmé, with Love and Squalor, J.D. Salinger utilizes the function of secondary characters to expose the correlation between the contrasting ideas of idealism and cynicism. The three minor characters of Esmé, her brother Charles, and Corporal Z all play different but necessary roles in the mental and emotional development of the main character, Sergeant X. While the characters of Esmé and Charles represent the best traits of humanity, their lifestyles contrast that of Corporal Z, a pessimistic and rude war veteran. After Salinger sets a standard of ideal human nature through the two siblings and their interaction with Sergeant X, he purposefully introduces Corporal Z into the story to help demonstrate the differences between the personalities of idealistic and cynical people; in doing so, Salinger reveals relationships between youthful innocence and idealism, as well as arrogance and cynicism. Esmé s commendable traits, such as her compassion and sophistication, reflect her perfection in the eyes of Sergeant X. From the time she first talks to him at the restaurant, Esmé puts forth effort to develop a friendship and unique bond with the struggling soldier. Racing toward the scream looking through the rooms I saw something that will haunt my dreams forever. A client was throwing up all her own blood, organs, and bones with a shadowy figure behind her holding a bottle. Right after I burst into her room the lights flickered off into a complete darkness. Issac Asimov lived in a time where robots were merely an idea, but that didn t stop him from using this idea of a robot to represent different aspects of humanity throughout the chapters of his book I, Robot. Asimov s book reflects on human nature and what it means to be human. Reflecting can help people to better understand themselves and the people that surround them. One part of human nature that Asimov brings up is the idea that even lies with good intentions can cause harm. In I, Robot, one of the robots has the ability to read minds, but the first Law of Robotics does not allow robots to harm human in any way, including hurt feelings. Do you suppose that if I asked a question, it wouldn t give exactly that answer that one wants to hear? Wouldn t any other answer hurt us, and wouldn t Herbie know that? (Asimov 108). This robot was doing everything it could not to hurt any of the humans and it did this by lying to them. This is something that many people can relate to, whether it is lying to someone by telling them they threw a good party or that it couldn t be attended because of a fake appointment, telling the truth wouldn t benefit anyone. By recognizing that lying is a part of human nature, it can be understood why someone might choose to lie.
