Over The Garden Wall Mood Analysis
Setting the Mood: How Over the Garden Wall Mastered Mood In literature, there are several concepts
that are essential to good works. Without these key concepts, the work has no meaning. Some of these
concepts reign supreme over others, such as theme, narrative, and style, while others play a
background role in the story. One of the most important and often overlooked background function of
a piece of literary work is the mood of a piece. You can find mood in several places, and there are
countless examples throughout literature, but without knowing what it is, mood can be a very difficult
concept to grasp or even notice in a piece. Mood is an essential piece that every writer of any form of
literature, whether it be written for the screen, the stage, or in a novel, must seriously consider and
stay true to in order for great work to be created. In order to illustrate the importance of good mood
setting, we will be taking a look at a personal favorite of mine, the miniseries Over the Garden Wall,
which manages to combine several elements to create a near perfect example of mood. Before we can
effectively examine a good example of mood setting, we first must look deeper into what mood is in
the context of literature. Mood is defined as the literary element that evokes a certain feeling or
emotion within the reader. Mood can be conveyed in a novel through several different methods,
including setting, diction, theme, and tone. When we approach a visual medium, such as a

Horace Walpole s Castle Of Otranto
In the art of storytelling, there is no greater important detail than the setting. The environment of a
story is the glue that grounds the characters together, the fertile valley in which the plot is cultivated
and grown, and the often the core influence that forwards the narrative. The classic Gothic literature
works of Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto as well as Anna and John Aikin s Sir Bertrand both are
stories that have not only their plots bound and driven by their settings, but have their dark and
horrifying moods created by the environment as well (Walpole 586)(Aikin and Aikin 589). In these
two stories, and most other forms of literature, the environment is the essential driving force that both
creates the tones of the stories and advances the plot by forcing the reader into an environment they
are unfamiliar with.
One of the most common settings in Gothic literature, which also can drive forward the plot, is an old
medieval castle. Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto is not an exception to this trend. Almost
immediately after Manfred tries to force Isabella to marry him, she tries to escape from the castle but
can not since the building is so well fortified. If she had been inside of just a large house instead, then
it would have been easier to escape. Since she could not find normal way out of the castle, she was
forced to locate another way out. If she had escaped earlier then she would not have found the secret
tunnels that she used to escape, therefore

Tertiary Education Should Be Required As A Prerequisite...
Title: Tertiary education should be required as a prerequisite in order to join the police force.
Introduction:
Problem: Without prior tertiary education, police are entering the workforce under skilled.
Claim: All police should be required to have tertiary education as it promotes police professionalism,
improves standards in both policing and security and encourages personal growth and ethical decision
making.
Reasoning: By making tertiary education a prerequisite when joining the police force, it is ensuring
that all potential police officers are fully equipped with the highly necessary, and somewhat
complicated, skills set in order to protect and serve the public.
Definition: Relating to or denoting education at a level beyond that ... Show more content on

Studies have concluded that higher education has an impact on the views of police officers towards
racial/ethnic minorities, as well as on levels of professionalism and on standards of service to the
community (Archbold, Hasselli Manist, 2008)
Warrant:
Trofymowych (2008) implies that while university education is not the only factor required for police
to obtain professional recognition, it is an essential part of the professionalization process, without
which police will never obtain professional status .
Backing:
In order to obtain police professionalism , tertiary education is highly advised.
Grounds 2: Tertiary education improves standards in policing
Evidence:
Webb (2008) states that tertiary education and training have frequently been recommended as key
requirements to improve standards within policing and security.
In more recent times, researchers have studied and analyzed methodical social observations of 638
officers in two policing departments, discovering that officers with more education were less expected
to use force. (Webb, 2008)
A study was conducted which uncovered that officers with a university degree were less likely to use
verbal and physical force in comparison to their colleagues, where their highest education was a high
school certificate. Similarly, officers with some university experience were less likely to engage in
verbal force opposed to their less educated colleagues. (Paoline Terrill, 2007)

What Is Genesis 8-17
Genesis 9:8 17
The most important massage is in this text is the unconditional covenant/promise of almighty God to
the all living creatures on the earth. A covenant has no termination, and, in this covenant, there is no
liability on Noah and his descendants or any living creature. God made this covenant and reconfirmed
it in this text and declare the sign of this covenant is rainbow, reveals His/Her abundant grace. Grace
is God s unmerited favor toward those who deserve His judgment. If God acted based on what we
deserve, humans would have perished centuries ago. God created all the creation and blessed it, but
humanity had grown corrupt so much and God resolved to unleash a flood that would destroy

Beethoven 5th Symphony Essay
Symphony No.5 in C minor, ensembles work by German composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. Generally
perceived by the unfavorable four note opening theme frequently translated as the musical appearance
of fate knocking at the door.
This hard hitting piece included flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timpani, and
groups of violins, piccolo, contrabassoon, and trombones. The rhythm of the 5th symphony was very
important. Beethoven created a tempo allegro con brio (fast with spirit). I think him doing this worked
well with this piece and made it that much more creative. As for the tone color, that s a hard one.
There is no overall tone color for the whole symphony. The harmony was mainly minor mode. The
notes were very present and it got easier to hear and notice the instruments once I listened to the
symphony a few times. I feel like Beethoven s motive was the basic four note motive he introduced.
Seems like he really took his time with this piece. He created the 5th symphony ... Show more content

This piece is extremely sensational and over the top, additionally quiet and settle. The fifth ensemble
is erratic which makes it all the more energizing and fascinating to listen to. It begins intense, solid.
What s more, straight forward, then switches and goes into a milder, more quiet vibe. Just about
makes you need to waltz. This mix is mind boggling. I could hear verging on each instrument
unmistakably and they all assumed a noteworthy part in this piece. Beethoven s utilization of these
instruments made conceivable a more extensive scope of shading, magnificence, splendor, and the
bigger the standard ensemble is one of the elements that makes this last development my most loved
bit of Beethoven s music. I truly delighted in and acknowledged listening to Beethoven s fifth

Robert Rodriguez Research Paper
Director, Robert Rodriguez grew up in Texas. Initially rejected from film school, Rodriguez taught
himself the basic directing and editing skills before he attended a film program. Rodriguez began by
making short films, which often featured some of his nine siblings. He won several awards for his
efforts and was eventually accepted into the film program at the University of Texas at Austin. His
first feature, El Mariachi, showed his talents as a filmmaker and helped him to land a deal with
Columbia Pictures. His later films include From Dusk to Dawn (1996), Spy Kids (2001) and Sin City
(2005)
He made his first feature film El Mariachi (1993) with only $7,000. He got some of the money for

Despite the interesting 3 D effects, this movie didn t really register with theatre goers or with critics.
Despite the occasional box office disappointment, Rodriguez has become one of the most respected
Latino filmmakers working today. Another interesting project for Rodriguez has been Grind House, a
double feature with Quentin Tarantino in 2007, done in the style of the B movies of the 1970s.
Rodriguez s film, Planet Terror, was released the same year. Tarantino s part of the double feature is
called Death Proof and features Kurt Russell as crazed stuntman using his vehicle as a weapon.
In 2010, Rodriguez directed the film Machete, featuring his cousin Danny Trejo as the main
protagonist. The film was inspired by a fake trailer forGrindhouse which featured Trejo. The process
of working backwards from a trailer to a film proved to be a success for Rodriguez, with the film
making more than $26 million. Shortly after its release, Rodriguez began working on the script for the

The Influence Of Theatrical Media On College Life
Every situation can be viewed in multiple ways by different individuals. Growing up, I would describe
my development as struggle, positivity, and purposeful. The road to the college life was a personal
struggle. I actually didn t want to go because I didn t think there was anything there for me to achieve.
I was convinced that I wouldn t even excel due to upbringings and circumstances. Eventually, I
decided to commit and attend University because I just wanted something to do during my time. I
developed positivity, resources, and character through my college journey. I look at this journey as a
developing and purposeful time in my transition to adulthood. These four years in college can be seen
as a movie for some individuals. Similarly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Macbeth s State Of Mind
Throughout Shakespeare s tragedy of Macbeth, the motif of time plays a significant role as Macbeth s
state of mind progresses throughout the play. Time serves as a vital role in a tragedy, for as time
progresses, a character s inevitable and ill fated end draws closer and closer. In Shakespeare s play,
Macbeth becomes completely consumed by time as he is fixated on an illusory future and becomes
haunted by his inescapable, bloodstained past. Essentially, throughout the play, Macbeth continually
fights for his royal future, yet realizes too late that, due to the unavoidable passing of time and
mortality of life, his position as King of Scotland will be transient and momentary. Nevertheless,
throughout the course of the play, Macbeth s state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, he also recognizes that if he were to disturb the natural time and progression of events in this
bank and shoal of time (I.vii.6), he would be jeopardizing his future, for he would still have judgment
here (I.vii.8). As Macbeth ponders whether or not to kill his king in order to try to become king
himself, his main hesitations arise from the fact that, if he does kill Duncan, he will be consumed by
guilt and will suffer judgment and consequences in both this world and in the afterlife. Paralleling
Hamlet s to be or not to be speech, Macbeth s uncertainty about the afterlife and what will arise from
his mortal actions cause him to desire to proceed no further in this business (31). Thus, Macbeth s
attention on the afterlife reveals his state of mind relative to time at this point in the play as he focuses
on the future while debating whether to essentially overleap time and make himself King of Scotland,
or wait and see if the witches prophecy will come true. However, in regards to the prophecies, the
witches never mention when anything will take place. Thus, Macbeth is left with an internal struggle
as he ponders whether to let nature run its course and hopefully become king naturally, or whether to
disturb the normal order of the world and overrun the natural progression of time to ensure his
crowning. Although Macbeth concludes at the end of

The Pros and Cons of Globalization Essays
Nowadays people have become closer than before. Services and goods produced in a country will be
available to sell in the other countries. We hear about globalisation in the news every day, read about it
in the news papers and hear people talking about it. Globalisation is the interactively international and
nearness of economies.
It is the process that has led to the diverse parts of the globe becoming much closer to each other
(Slaughter and Swagel, 1997). Globalisation is the procedures by which the people around the world

The British East India Company established in 1600, was described as one of the first multinational

factor to encourage the spread of globalisation.
Globalisation has given us some great advantages throughout our lives. At the same time,
globalisation has created some disadvantages. As a result of the increase and the speed of economic
globalisation, it became easier to cross a border which has resulted in organized crime. For example
the international mafia gangs have taken advantage of the chaos and turmoil in some parts of the
world (Shanty, 2007). In addition, both crime and terrorists groups globalized to find their markets, to
perpetuate their business and to avoid detection. Furthermore,

telescreens allow constant surveillance, and even in the dark, it picks up ever sounds. Therefore, these

Summary Of The Odd One Out

The Odd One Out
On the most famous street in Boston, Newbury, there lays two architectural opposites just across from
one another. The Church of the Covenants a great historical church built in a gothic architectural style
where you would see historians, tour guides or school field trips and a Victoria Secret store that covers
an entire block and is build on the bases of modern architecture where friends and family would go
shopping or for a day out. Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping
district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround
such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems
very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural
masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of
Boston. The different architecture invites different types of people to such a vibrant street making it
not only a tourist attraction but also a street where people from all different demographics come.
The presence of the Convent Church cannot be ignored by anyone when they walk on Newbury Street.
I found it to be very interesting how nothing near the church was taller than it. The architecture of the
street made it so that the all the surrounding shops will be lower and if you looked up you would only

Several people find themselves in this situation, especially during winter. Instead of getting frustrated,

Native Americans In New France
During the beginning of the colonization period within America, many Europeans were escaping their
lives in Europe. America delivered Europeans from the social, political, and economic inequality.
They no longer had to feel apprehension from the crop famines. They finally had a chance of freedom.
When Europeans first encountered Native Americans, they saw them as the exemplification of
freedom. Even though colonists desired freedom, they felt that Native Americans had the wrong type
of freedom. They thought they were too free and lacked the structure that civilization provided.

Considering the small white population compared to the mass amount of Natives in North America,
the French depended on good relations with Native Americans. The main person to blame the good

He imagined creating a civilization where people of multiple cultural backgrounds can live together

Explain And Describe The Fad Diets And The Cabbage Soup Diet
1. Explain and Describe the Fad Diets .
A fad diet is any diet that encourages short term change in eating behaviour and promises quick
dramatic weight loss results without a scientific basis. They get popular very quickly but fall out of
favour very soon as well because they cannot be sustained in long term and they are usually not very
healthy, leading to many serious health problems. Generally, all fad diets share the same
characteristics, such as:
a) promise a quick fix (more than 5 or more pounds weight loss per week)
b) promise a weight loss without giving up fatty foods or exercise on a regular basis
c) promotes magic foods or combinations of foods
d) list out good and bad foods
e) implies that food can change body chemistry
f) eliminate or severely restrict certain food groups or nutrients

Cert Disaster Response Paper
CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and
trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team
organization, and disaster medical operations. (2016). There are ten regions for all the states.
Tennessee being in region four, along with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North and South
Carolina. The goal and priorities for CERT is to be able to assist the general public, and the first
responders with any type of disaster or hazard. Whether it be domestic, or terror. FEMA s mission is to

By these members going through training, that gives me some type of relief. Something that was
spoken daily in our police academy that I find to be fitting for this is, when you least expect it, expect
it. Natural disasters are something know really expects to happen until happens. By having these
contingency plans in place, and being able to have a group of people ready to go at a phone call should
make their communities feel better. Something that I did not think about was the size of the
communities. Bigger cities will have more first responders, but also more area cover. What about
smaller communities? The amount of first responders will be lower, and with that comes training for
some unlikely candidates. Teenagers. High Schools now are beginning to show high schoolers what to
do during certain situations, while waiting for first responders. Once again, I find this to be a great
thing. The great thing about involving the youth is that it teaches something that can use for the rest of
their lives and continue to improve on using. For those that decide to go to the military, become a first
responder, or even a cadet in a police department, will give them a little bit of an idea what is expected
to happen in that line of work. Being prepared always is the plus side. Which is was CERT is for.
Always ready to go, and they do so swiftly and smoothly. The response out here for the train
derailment was quick, not to mention they worked along side the first responders, police officers, and
the military. So they are always continuing to improve and gain more and more experience. I know
that for a fact that the military has a lot to offer when it comes to training for disasters, and hazardous

Describe Two Different Types Of Organic And Organic Growth
1. Describe two major ways in which a company can grow. Give examples to illustrate the two ways
of growing. There are two ways of growing a company that is organic and in organic. Organic growth
is when expanding the business by natural way such as making profit and opening branches and hiring
more staff. On the other hand when a business is growing inorganically, is when a company buys
majority shares of another similar company or purchasing the entire company and operates as its own.
Example of an organic growth of a company would be MacDonald fast food chain. This company
started from the scratch and expands its business within the region and expands overseas. They
increase their revenue and invested on purchasing properties and increase their product. A good
example of inorganic company growing is when Nokia and Microsoft merge together for better

Tony Kushner s Angels Of America
According to Tony Kushner in his dramatic play, Angels of America, Kushner uses angels and religion
to help develop the characters afflicted by it as well carry them through the entire play and reach some
sort of enlightenment. Spirituality is a big thing within Angels in America, and Angels are one of
them. Harper: When you look at the ozone layer, from outside, from a spaceship, it looks like a pale
blue halo [...]. It s a gift, from God, the crowning touch to the creation of the world: guardian angels,
hands linked [...] a shell of safety for life itself. (Kushner) To Harper, the Angel s are there to protect
and watch over us. Being raised Mormon, Harper sees things through a spiritual lens. The ozone is not
just a scientific fact but something that God gave to us as a gift, and the halo are not only gases but
angels. Yet, to Prior, they re a symbol of death. When Prior reveals his lesion he calls them, the wine
dark kiss of the angel of death (Kushner). It s a complete contrast to what Harper believes, it could be
that fact Prior is not religious or because of the circumstance Prior is in. In general, angels are so far
portrayed as protects and destroyers of mankind. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Motivation In Education
Education is the key to eliminate gender discrimination, to decrease poverty, to foster social peace in
our communities and to create a sustainable development. But, how can we encourage our children to
study effectively? In other words, how can we prepare them for success? Motivation is the secret
behind student success. Motivation helps to explain why some children get impressive education
results despite poverty, while others get ordinary results despite highly sophisticated teaching
methods. Which factors affecting students motivation? And how it works in the lives of girls and
boys? Despite the fact that girls outperform their male peers, and hyper control of girls acts as a kind
of motivator which makes them study harder than boys, boys are not defective. Motivation is the main
factor which is shaped by parents and teachers. In many Middle Eastern public schools; elements have
cooperated together to create an educational system which is not appropriate for anyone but
particularly not for boys. Boys feel like their teachers do not care about them, and they had
experienced a worse relationship with their teachers. Also, they reported physical punishment which
had been occurred at school. Moreover, boys have their own society which aims to enforce their
masculinity away from classrooms and academic goals that is why they lose their motivation to study
hard. This is the topic that Amanda Ripley (2017) focuses on in her article Boys are not defective . In
her article Ripley (2017) discusses that male teachers practices have a negative effect on boys
motivation. They do not care about boys well performance, tend to punish them physically and shout
at them. In addition, the notions of masculinity among boys make them feel like schools will not help
them to reach manhood. My firm conviction is those worse relationships between boys and teachers,
insulting and corporal punishment and the internal desire of students to achieve their manhood outside
classrooms; this would affect badly on their motivation, and would decrease their academic
performance.
I am totally agree with the author since teachers are one of the major factors which stands behind boys
performance, and teachers mistreatment towards boys

A Comparison Of The Disney Hercules And Disney Hercules
Ancient Greeks followed myths and teachings of gods and heroes called Greek Mythology.
Gods/desses exist in greek mythology to symbolize events such as weather changes to religious
rituals, these stories help set up a social system while also occupying kids minds with thoughts such as
where people go when they die. Demi gods are the results of a god and a human making love, they
have the appearance of a human, but have better traits than most and are also immortal. Hercules is
known for his immense strength from him being a son of Zeus but also a mortal mother. Hercules was
very kind and caring, and was the only son of a mortal woman who became a god before dying. We
will be discussing the Disney Hercules and the Dwayne Hercules. The Disney movie introduces a
child friendly hercules who ends up learning a valuable lesson in the end and becomes a hero. The
Dwayne Johnson movie introduces a more realistic hercules who travels the world with his band of
mercenaries accomplishing difficult tasks for money and other rewards. The Disney version makes
Hercules more friendly and less realistic which is ineffective to the myth itself, but the Dwayne
version makes Hercules very realistic which helps make the story effective. The changes the Disney
and Dwayne make to Hercule s birth and early life and his own family are both effective in their own
ways. Zeus falls in love Alcmene and makes her pregnant, they name the baby Hercules to honor Zeus
s wife, Hera. Hera was still mad though so she sends snakes to kill Hercules, but he was so strong that
he killed them with his bare hands. Hercules then grows up, marries Megara and has kids, but Hera
sends Hercules into madness and makes him murder his wife and kids, he then has to repent for his
sins with the 12 labors. In the Disney version, Hercules is made to be an actual god and the child of
Zeus and Hera, Hades with his evil plans sends his minions to kidnap Hercules and make him mortal
but Hercules doesn t drink the last drop of formula, letting him keep his strength. Hercule the grows
up with mortal parents but realizes eventually that he has super strength and that he is not a normal
boy. These changes are effective for the audience as Hercules was originally a hero

Zeffirelli And Hamlet Comparative Essay
When examining Kenneth Branagh s (1996) and Franco Zeffirelli s (1990) film of Hamlet both
directors interpret William Shakespeare s work quite differently. Both films excel in different aspects
demonstrating strengths and weaknesses on either side. Branagh explores Hamlet as a vengeful
character somewhat more as Shakespeare had intended. Zeffirelli emphasizes the dialogue in the film
using the tone rather than developing the character based on hatred. However despite the films
differences they both effectively capture the overall essence of indecision leading to personal tragedy.
Hamlet s inability to take decisive action ultimately results in many of the characters dying, including
himself. Scenes such as Hamlet s To be or Not to be soliloquy in Act III, Scene I; the dueling scene
between Hamlet and Laertes in Act V, Scene II; and the bedroom ... Show more content on

By looking in the mirror, he uses it as a self confidence method to reassure himself about his plan of
revenge. Branagh s continuous efforts remain constant throughout the movie where his anger and
revenge get the better of him. His soliloquy the anger that Hamlet has towards his father s murder.
Branagh continuously illustrates his discontent for his mother and uncle. Nonetheless, Zeffirelli sets
the scene with Hamlet played by Mel Gibson surrounded by corpses, ideal for the thought of suicide.
Even so this appears to be the most sane depiction of Hamlet, as he doesn t truly seem to be
contemplating suicide. Gibson begins his soliloquy already aware of the fact that he has no intention
of murdering himself. Instead, he laments his belief that suicide is not a choice. Gibson places less
importance on the opening line, allowing the viewer to concentrate on the significance of the soliloquy
in a way of making it look like a man just thinking to

be different. In addition, goals should be situational to terms, able to be completed with baby steps,
and identify a clear role for the client. Also, the therapist uses conversation to identify the patient s
strengths, which allows the therapist to point out what the client can already do well as needed

Comparing Males in Browning s Porphyria s Lover and My...
Controlling Males in Browning s Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess
The death of the female beloved is the only way deemed possible by the insecure, possessive male to
seize her undivided attention. This beloved woman represents the reflector and guarantor of male
identity. Hence, the male anxiety about the woman s independence for her liberty puts his masculine
self estimation at risk (Maxwell 29). The jealous and controlling males in Robert Browning s
Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess possess a fervent desire to fix and monopolize their
unconstrained female beloveds. Due to a fear of death, both speakers attempt to achieve control and
deny object loss; by turning their lovers (once subjects) into objects, ... Show more content on

Browning s romantic setting Porphyria has come to [the lover] out of a world from which he is
foreclosed implies that her darling one wish was something comparable to: I want to be with you
forever. The speaker misreads her comment in order to escape being a loved object to be abandoned
again. He states that Porphyria s feminine position is one far too weak to break the vainer ties in a
world of which he cannot be a part of. Torn between passionate possession of her and inevitable
abandonment, he has murdered her in order to turn her into a fetishistic object which can never leave
(Ingersoll 154). The lover confirms that he is in control. He is the observer; she, the silenced object.
Even God has not said a word! (60), rendered silent in the face of the narrating of this masterful
subject (Ingersoll 154). Through the power of his monologue, this lover successfully defies God and
remakes Porphyria into his own object of desire.
Like Porphyria s lover, the murderer in My Last Duchess also demands control in his relationship with
the Duchess. The Duke begins his speech by exposing the exquisite portrait of his former wife to an
initially unidentified guest. To him, this object is his wife. The language he uses in relation to the
portrait seems deliberately confused:

Informal And Informal Language
Informal Language is Dependent on Context
Many of us switch between formal and informal language without much thought. It has become
almost instinctual to adapt the appropriate language to the purpose, audience and the social setting of
the discourse. Informal language includes the use of discourse particles, hypertaxis and non standard
syntax which are used to increase social proximity, promote in group membership and reinforce the
exclusivity of the group. The use of informal language largely depends on context: where the
conversation is upheld, what text type and mode it is in and the audience to which it is directed to.
The situation plays an imperative role into the degree in which informal language is used. Teenage

The spoken mode, in general, is much more personal and informal than the written with slimmer

volume (from whispering secrets to exclamations) and a rising intonation can help the speaker hand

necessarily be viewed as important and a slower to medium pace may be used to ensure the audience

language may also be used such as waving of hands or excitedly jumping whilst formal, in
comparison, would include standing still and without the blatant display of emotion. By reviewing the
previous Ja mie example, we can see that not only does her situation change, but her audience also
changes from close friends to her peers, their parents, and her teachers. Ja mie shows how informal
language builds the private identity of her friendship group and how formal language distances herself
from her public audience. Audience predetermines whether informal language should be used
depending on the relationship between speaker and listener, private or public, and if the

Intrinsic Motivation, By Daniel Pink
At the point when a person arranges or needs to accomplish something, he or she has a motivation for
that particular thing. As it were, the point at which a person accomplishes something, that person has a
motivation behind why he or she ought to do that thing. Not generally there is motivation to
accomplish something, yet in some cases might be numerous reasons that are support a person to take
those activities to do it. Two of those motivations which Daniel Pink discusses are intrinsic and
extrinsic motivation, and how they are once in a while consolidated together. Dweck in the other hand

The cumulative prognosis time distribution for the selected signaling pathways are shown in Fig. 4.
The later activation of the IL 10 pathway in the symptomatic subjects can be explained by the anti
inflammatory nature of IL 10 and.... Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to
become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al.,
2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that
have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects.
This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of
influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic
could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway
results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results,
was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of
the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006).
The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection

Covetousness is a major problem for most men, back in that time as well as today, but seeking to gain

  • 2. Over The Garden Wall Mood Analysis Setting the Mood: How Over the Garden Wall Mastered Mood In literature, there are several concepts that are essential to good works. Without these key concepts, the work has no meaning. Some of these concepts reign supreme over others, such as theme, narrative, and style, while others play a background role in the story. One of the most important and often overlooked background function of a piece of literary work is the mood of a piece. You can find mood in several places, and there are countless examples throughout literature, but without knowing what it is, mood can be a very difficult concept to grasp or even notice in a piece. Mood is an essential piece that every writer of any form of literature, whether it be written for the screen, the stage, or in a novel, must seriously consider and stay true to in order for great work to be created. In order to illustrate the importance of good mood setting, we will be taking a look at a personal favorite of mine, the miniseries Over the Garden Wall, which manages to combine several elements to create a near perfect example of mood. Before we can effectively examine a good example of mood setting, we first must look deeper into what mood is in the context of literature. Mood is defined as the literary element that evokes a certain feeling or emotion within the reader. Mood can be conveyed in a novel through several different methods, including setting, diction, theme, and tone. When we approach a visual medium, such as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Horace Walpole s Castle Of Otranto In the art of storytelling, there is no greater important detail than the setting. The environment of a story is the glue that grounds the characters together, the fertile valley in which the plot is cultivated and grown, and the often the core influence that forwards the narrative. The classic Gothic literature works of Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto as well as Anna and John Aikin s Sir Bertrand both are stories that have not only their plots bound and driven by their settings, but have their dark and horrifying moods created by the environment as well (Walpole 586)(Aikin and Aikin 589). In these two stories, and most other forms of literature, the environment is the essential driving force that both creates the tones of the stories and advances the plot by forcing the reader into an environment they are unfamiliar with. One of the most common settings in Gothic literature, which also can drive forward the plot, is an old medieval castle. Horace Walpole s Castle of Otranto is not an exception to this trend. Almost immediately after Manfred tries to force Isabella to marry him, she tries to escape from the castle but can not since the building is so well fortified. If she had been inside of just a large house instead, then it would have been easier to escape. Since she could not find normal way out of the castle, she was forced to locate another way out. If she had escaped earlier then she would not have found the secret tunnels that she used to escape, therefore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Webb, 2008) A study was conducted which uncovered that officers with a university degree were less likely to use verbal and physical force in comparison to their colleagues, where their highest education was a high school certificate. Similarly, officers with some university experience were less likely to engage in verbal force opposed to their less educated colleagues. (Paoline Terrill, 2007) Warrant: ... • 6. Beethoven 5th Symphony Essay Symphony No.5 in C minor, ensembles work by German composer Ludwig Van Beethoven. Generally perceived by the unfavorable four note opening theme frequently translated as the musical appearance of fate knocking at the door. This hard hitting piece included flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timpani, and groups of violins, piccolo, contrabassoon, and trombones. The rhythm of the 5th symphony was very important. Beethoven created a tempo allegro con brio (fast with spirit). I think him doing this worked well with this piece and made it that much more creative. As for the tone color, that s a hard one. There is no overall tone color for the whole symphony. The harmony was mainly minor mode. The notes were very present and it got easier to hear and notice the instruments once I listened to the symphony a few times. I feel like Beethoven s motive was the basic four note motive he introduced. Seems like he really took his time with this piece. He created the 5th symphony ... The fifth ensemble is erratic which makes it all the more energizing and fascinating to listen to. It begins intense, solid. What s more, straight forward, then switches and goes into a milder, more quiet vibe. Just about makes you need to waltz. This mix is mind boggling. I could hear verging on each instrument unmistakably and they all assumed a noteworthy part in this piece. Beethoven s utilization of these instruments made conceivable a more extensive scope of shading, magnificence, splendor, and the bigger the standard ensemble is one of the elements that makes this last development my most loved bit of Beethoven s music. • 10. Macbeth s State Of Mind Throughout Shakespeare s tragedy of Macbeth, the motif of time plays a significant role as Macbeth s state of mind progresses throughout the play. Time serves as a vital role in a tragedy, for as time progresses, a character s inevitable and ill fated end draws closer and closer. In Shakespeare s play, Macbeth becomes completely consumed by time as he is fixated on an illusory future and becomes haunted by his inescapable, bloodstained past. Essentially, throughout the play, Macbeth continually fights for his royal future, yet realizes too late that, due to the unavoidable passing of time and mortality of life, his position as King of Scotland will be transient and momentary. Yet, he also recognizes that if he were to disturb the natural time and progression of events in this bank and shoal of time (I.vii.6), he would be jeopardizing his future, for he would still have judgment here (I.vii.8). As Macbeth ponders whether or not to kill his king in order to try to become king himself, his main hesitations arise from the fact that, if he does kill Duncan, he will be consumed by guilt and will suffer judgment and consequences in both this world and in the afterlife. Paralleling Hamlet s to be or not to be speech, Macbeth s uncertainty about the afterlife and what will arise from his mortal actions cause him to desire to proceed no further in this business (31). Thus, Macbeth s attention on the afterlife reveals his state of mind relative to time at this point in the play as he focuses on the future while debating whether to essentially overleap time and make himself King of Scotland, or wait and see if the witches prophecy will come true. However, in regards to the prophecies, the witches never mention when anything will take place. Thus, Macbeth is left with an internal struggle as he ponders whether to let nature run its course and hopefully become king naturally, or whether to disturb the normal order of the world and overrun the natural progression of time to ensure his crowning. The Church of the Covenants a great historical church built in a gothic architectural style where you would see historians, tour guides or school field trips and a Victoria Secret store that covers an entire block and is build on the bases of modern architecture where friends and family would go shopping or for a day out. Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of Boston. The Importance Of Motivation In Education Education is the key to eliminate gender discrimination, to decrease poverty, to foster social peace in our communities and to create a sustainable development. But, how can we encourage our children to study effectively? In other words, how can we prepare them for success? Motivation is the secret behind student success. Motivation helps to explain why some children get impressive education results despite poverty, while others get ordinary results despite highly sophisticated teaching methods. Which factors affecting students motivation? And how it works in the lives of girls and boys? Despite the fact that girls outperform their male peers, and hyper control of girls acts as a kind of motivator which makes them study harder than boys, boys are not defective. Motivation is the main factor which is shaped by parents and teachers. In many Middle Eastern public schools; elements have cooperated together to create an educational system which is not appropriate for anyone but particularly not for boys. Boys feel like their teachers do not care about them, and they had experienced a worse relationship with their teachers. Also, they reported physical punishment which had been occurred at school. Moreover, boys have their own society which aims to enforce their masculinity away from classrooms and academic goals that is why they lose their motivation to study hard. This is the topic that Amanda Ripley (2017) focuses on in her article Boys are not defective . In her article Ripley (2017) discusses that male teachers practices have a negative effect on boys motivation. They do not care about boys well performance, tend to punish them physically and shout at them. In addition, the notions of masculinity among boys make them feel like schools will not help them to reach manhood. My firm conviction is those worse relationships between boys and teachers, insulting and corporal punishment and the internal desire of students to achieve their manhood outside classrooms; this would affect badly on their motivation, and would decrease their academic performance. Gods/desses exist in greek mythology to symbolize events such as weather changes to religious rituals, these stories help set up a social system while also occupying kids minds with thoughts such as where people go when they die. Demi gods are the results of a god and a human making love, they have the appearance of a human, but have better traits than most and are also immortal. Hercules is known for his immense strength from him being a son of Zeus but also a mortal mother. Hercules was very kind and caring, and was the only son of a mortal woman who became a god before dying. We will be discussing the Disney Hercules and the Dwayne Hercules. The Disney movie introduces a child friendly hercules who ends up learning a valuable lesson in the end and becomes a hero. The Dwayne Johnson movie introduces a more realistic hercules who travels the world with his band of mercenaries accomplishing difficult tasks for money and other rewards. The Disney version makes Hercules more friendly and less realistic which is ineffective to the myth itself, but the Dwayne version makes Hercules very realistic which helps make the story effective. The changes the Disney and Dwayne make to Hercule s birth and early life and his own family are both effective in their own ways. Zeus falls in love Alcmene and makes her pregnant, they name the baby Hercules to honor Zeus s wife, Hera. Hera was still mad though so she sends snakes to kill Hercules, but he was so strong that he killed them with his bare hands. Lastly, research done by Kvarme, Aabo, and Saeteren (2013) showed that solution focus therapy helped children who had been bullied in school build confidence and handle their emotions about being ... • 29. Comparing Males in Browning s Porphyria s Lover and My... Controlling Males in Browning s Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess The death of the female beloved is the only way deemed possible by the insecure, possessive male to seize her undivided attention. This beloved woman represents the reflector and guarantor of male identity. Hence, the male anxiety about the woman s independence for her liberty puts his masculine self estimation at risk (Maxwell 29). The jealous and controlling males in Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover and My Last Duchess possess a fervent desire to fix and monopolize their unconstrained female beloveds. Due to a fear of death, both speakers attempt to achieve control and deny object loss; by turning their lovers (once subjects) into objects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Browning s romantic setting Porphyria has come to [the lover] out of a world from which he is foreclosed implies that her darling one wish was something comparable to: I want to be with you forever. The speaker misreads her comment in order to escape being a loved object to be abandoned again. He states that Porphyria s feminine position is one far too weak to break the vainer ties in a world of which he cannot be a part of. Torn between passionate possession of her and inevitable abandonment, he has murdered her in order to turn her into a fetishistic object which can never leave (Ingersoll 154). The lover confirms that he is in control. He is the observer; she, the silenced object. Even God has not said a word! (60), rendered silent in the face of the narrating of this masterful subject (Ingersoll 154). Through the power of his monologue, this lover successfully defies God and remakes Porphyria into his own object of desire. Like Porphyria s lover, the murderer in My Last Duchess also demands control in his relationship with the Duchess. The Duke begins his speech by exposing the exquisite portrait of his former wife to an initially unidentified guest. To him, this object is his wife. The language he uses in relation to the portrait seems deliberately confused: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Informal And Informal Language Informal Language is Dependent on Context Many of us switch between formal and informal language without much thought. It has become almost instinctual to adapt the appropriate language to the purpose, audience and the social setting of the discourse. Informal language includes the use of discourse particles, hypertaxis and non standard syntax which are used to increase social proximity, promote in group membership and reinforce the exclusivity of the group. The use of informal language largely depends on context: where the conversation is upheld, what text type and mode it is in and the audience to which it is directed to. The situation plays an imperative role into the degree in which informal language is used. Teenage conversations during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The spoken mode, in general, is much more personal and informal than the written with slimmer chances of misunderstandings and responses tend to be instantaneous rather than delayed. While the written mode is more scripted and usually appears without non fluency features, the spoken mode involves many prosodic and paralinguistic features could be used including stress, large range of volume (from whispering secrets to exclamations) and a rising intonation can help the speaker hand over the floor. Fast pace can sometimes be understood as informal because the information may not necessarily be viewed as important and a slower to medium pace may be used to ensure the audience is comprehending what is said, this speed is more often used in formal language. Informal body language may also be used such as waving of hands or excitedly jumping whilst formal, in comparison, would include standing still and without the blatant display of emotion. By reviewing the previous Ja mie example, we can see that not only does her situation change, but her audience also changes from close friends to her peers, their parents, and her teachers. Ja mie shows how informal language builds the private identity of her friendship group and how formal language distances herself from her public audience. Audience predetermines whether informal language should be used depending on the relationship between speaker and listener, private or public, and if the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Intrinsic Motivation, By Daniel Pink At the point when a person arranges or needs to accomplish something, he or she has a motivation for that particular thing. As it were, the point at which a person accomplishes something, that person has a motivation behind why he or she ought to do that thing. Not generally there is motivation to accomplish something, yet in some cases might be numerous reasons that are support a person to take those activities to do it. Two of those motivations which Daniel Pink discusses are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and how they are once in a while consolidated together. Dweck in the other hand thinks as motivation in another way by intelligence praise. To change, we need to have a goal and high motivation. It is anything but difficult to grow ... Even though this is such an intuitively appealing idea, and even though it was exceedingly well intentioned, I believe it has disastrous effects. • 32. The Cumulative Prognosis Time Distribution For The... The cumulative prognosis time distribution for the selected signaling pathways are shown in Fig. 4. The later activation of the IL 10 pathway in the symptomatic subjects can be explained by the anti inflammatory nature of IL 10 and.... Similarly, the fact that the DNA sensing pathway is quick to become anomalous is likely due to the initial detection of viral ssRNA by RIG I (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). In fig. 5, we show further evidence of the pathway cascade, i.e., the fraction of the subjects that have k pathways out of 403 that are in alarm at a given time averaged over all symptomatic subjects. This graph suggests that the pathway cascade could permit a potentially very early diagnosis of influenza. For example, these results suggest that at least 25% of patients that become symptomatic could be identified in the first 16 hours of infection using a five alarm pathway. Discussion of pathway results The most likely pathway to go into alarm first in our experiment, based on the MSET results, was the cytosolic DNA sensing pathway. It was the first pathway to alarm in the cascade over 70% of the time. Influenza A does not generate dsDNA, but negative sense ssRNA (Pichlmair, et al., 2006). The cytosolic DNA sensing pathway is known to detect foreign dsDNA in the cell and upon detection of this exogenous DNA, production and maturation of cytokines and interferons initiates an immune response (http://www.genome.jp/dbget bin/www_bget?pathway+hsa04623). • 33. Helping Interaction This 15 minute helping interaction gave me a real experience of being a therapist, making me learn more about myself through helping interaction and deeply understand how to be an empathic therapist. This experience gave me opportunities to explore myself and my inner world. I never realized before that I am a highly emotional person. Being an emotional person is not a bad thing; however, being a highly emotional person makes me very sensitive to everyone and everything. During the process of helping my partner with her issue of smoking, I tried to use great manner to build a trust and respectful relationship with her. However, when I did not get positive responses from her as I expected, I felt very upset. Also, I felt bad and uncomfortable when my helper told me what I did wrong and what I needed to fix. In this session, I failed to use feeling vocabulary to reflect her feelings and create an empathic environment. In addition, I need to learn not to let my own experience and judgement influence the helping process. For example, when my client was talking about how smoking habit took away her studying time, I was thinking, exactly, bad habits always influence many students academic performance in a negative way. Although I did not say it, I wanted to say this to help her feel accepted and understood. This may not what she was thinking, but I was thinking it because I have experienced it before. • 34. Summary of The Book of Habakkuk Essay It is believed that the book of Habakkuk was written to Judah around the year 606 B.C., as Nineveh no longer exists, so it has to have been written some time after Nahum. There is nothing known about this prophet outside of this book, and it is believed that Habakkuk wrote the book himself, but it is uncertain. His name means embraced or could even be the name of an Assyrian flower. Also known as the prophet of the watchtower, he was one of the last prophets to write before the Babylonian captivity. Habakkuk was not written to prophecy to Judah or Israel about their destruction, but was written as if to God, with Habakkuk asking Him questions. Among the complaints and questions that Habakkuk brings to God, the most prevalent is this: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Yemen s Humanitarian Crisis What many individuals do not know is that Yemen is one of the worst humanitarian crises occurring today. Yemen is located in the Middle East, north of the horn of Africa and south of Saudi Arabia. Before the current conflict began, Yemen was already the poorest country in the Middle East, with half of their population at or below the poverty line. Since 2004, a war between the Republic of Yemen Government (RoYG) and the Houthi rebels began, which increased the humanitarian crises in Yemen (Whitaker, 2011). This affects the citizens of Yemen as the unlawful airstrikes from Saudi Arabia are harming the citizens rather than aiding the war efforts. This led to Saudi Arabia contributing to controversial air strikes with the intention to help reinstate President Hadi s position in the government, which in turn is responsible for a great portion of civilian deaths. Having the US involved to peacefully put an end to the war would help save many civilian lives.
