Chapter Two
Chapter Two I ran away, sweating uncontrollably, breathing heavily as screams erupted behind
me. I didn t,t look back as they cal no pleaded for me to return. I stubbornly ignored them but
quickly regarded it as their voices became more clear, He s there! Don t go near him! No one
returns! Suddenly the darkness covered me, eating me whole. Music, that s the first thing I
noticed. The tune that filled my ears reminded me of a children s song. The medley was soft but
had this odd second tune mixed in, it sent chills down my spine. Then there was a wild wind
blowing from the left of me? It was all so hard to tell with the darkness around me. Finally, it all
stopped, all the harsh winds and the chilling music stopped. Suddenly voices... Show more content

I have no idea why but for some reason I was being so vague on the matter and I knew that my
mother would notice it. Surprisingly though she never caught it. It was as if it just flew pasted
her head I actually began to feel a little worried then because nothing flies passed her, and I mean
nothing! Mom, I asked, are you alright? I looked at her face as she mouth the words that left my
lips. Am I alright? Well of course I m alright dear! What would give you the impression that I wasn

I got comfortable in my bed and as I told her goodnight. I woke up to my alarm and was about to
get ready for school until I realized it was Saturday. I was going to go back to sleep when I
remembered that I was gonna go out with Jonathan/John and Ted. I rushed to get ready and was
about to race out the door when as I was walking passed the kitchen I noticed a familiar brunet.
Ted? Jonathan? I asked while walking in. I was greeted with a suppressed giggle like noise.
Seriously this isn t cool you guys! I don t want my mom to get PTSD because of your guys
faces. HEY YOU LITTLE Language Teddy Bear. John interrupted, I was going to laugh until I
realized what John called Ted; this wasn t gonna end well. John looked at me and he had realized
his fatal mistake, Dude, Ted, I m so sorry man, please man, I totally forgot! Sadly it was too late. I

HL7 Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Electronic Health Record (EHR) standards refer to the agreed format that is applied to support the
definition, use and exchange of data that is related to all the aspects of Health care Information and
Technology (HIT). The standards should ensure that there is accurate, comprehensive and secure
health information of an individual patient in digital format. Being HIT building blocks, they
should provide a common framework of promoting uniformity in defining and identifying the
components of a health system. The standards should provide consistent collection and exchange of
patient s information, enhance data quality and ensure reduction of medical errors. Some of the
standards include: HL7 EHR Functional Model, CCHIT certification criteria and incentive

This will help me and the team to understand how the system works. The documents will serve as
the reference point on the basic requirements. For cohesiveness, I will have the team to discuss
my findings during meetings (Trotter Uhlman, 2011). Furthermore, I will try to understand the
terminology and the technology language that is associated with EHR information in general. In
doing so, I will seek the assistance of a professional physician, undertake research on different
sites and discuss with potential vendors to help me understand the terminologies. I will then carry
out a readiness assessment and analyze the workflow. In conducting the readiness awareness, I
will put into consideration my goals, the number of staff, current networks, the forms used and
volume of visits amongst others. Thereafter, I will carry out an analysis of office workflow by
reviewing steps of patient s encounter, data and billing collection and the quality of care. This will
help me in identifying errors and devising ways to improve on

Alexander The Great Propaganda
Propaganda is known as the method of communication that is proposed to shape the viewpoint of a
society to a particular source that profits an individual or a group. It also includes information that
is intentionally spread, as well as the distribution of information, that is used to influence a
community s views on someone or something. Propagandais used as a tool of influence, and it is
also a pervasive factor in our modern day social and political organizations. The term propaganda
originally started in 1622 when Pope Gregory XV established the Sacred Congregation for
Propagating the Faith.at this time propaganda was used to set a certain range of ideas. Rulers

He is pictured on the coin with horns and diadem. The horns of Zeus Ammon to be exact. A
diadem is a headband made of cloth and is known as a symbol for royalty. This feature suggest his
divinity. This coin was another tribute to Alexander as a god like figure. Also, Alexander s eyes on
this coin are a giveaway for his aggressiveness as a leader, but shows his divine side as well (The
Celator, Goldsborough). This coin was issued by his successor Lysimachus in 290 BCE
(Fox). This coin was made in silver and is now in the British Museum in London, England
(Hellenistic Powerpoint). All coins representing Alexander were minted due to the fact of the one
and only propaganda. These coins showed the people of the Hellenistic period that even though
Alexander was no longer alive he was still greatly known throughout the empire.
Alexander s use of propaganda, in opinion, was one of the best uses in history. He used art as
propaganda to create his god like symbol for himself. In doing this he created his own use of
propaganda. He conquered an empire, defeated other leaders, and gained the respect and control
of his people. Alexander was one of the most brilliant and powerful known leaders in history. To
this day Alexander is well known through is use of artistic and warlike propaganda. The images
and art that we see today still convey his intense leadership and figure. The images also convey the

Similarities Between Benjamin Franklin And Malcolm X
Benjamin Franklin and Malcolm X were both influential people in their time. They are models of
the American Character, persistent, innovative, virtuous and courageous. Benjamin Franklin was
even given the title of The First American for his relentless campaign for colonial unity.
Benjamin Franklin is a man of many titles, along with being one of our founding fathers he also is
an author, the postmaster of the time, an inventor, a diplomat, a civic activist and many more
things. Franklin had three qualities that reflected the values and characters of Americans in the 18th
Century. He was virtuous, persistent, and innovative; these traits contribute to the reason he is
pictured now as the model for the American Dream. When he was only 20 years old, Benjamin
Franklin crafted his own 13 virtues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of his virtues included Industry, Cleanliness, Silence, and Frugality which reflected values
that he thought were necessary to live a fruitful life. These virtues that were important to Franklin
were also important to the American people. The 18th century was a time for industry and many
Americans valued frugality to live a simple but prosperous life. Secondly, Benjamin Franklin was
persistent. Like many other leaders in the 18th century, he was relentless to achieve his goals and
would not stop until they were accomplished. Even at a young age when Benjamin Franklin wanted
to become a printer, and his father was set on him becoming a minister, he traveled to Pennsylvania
to become an apprentice and later ran the publication of the Pennsylvania Gazette, one of the most
successful newspapers of the time. His persistence mirrored that of the leaders of the American
Revolution who would not stop fighting until Freedom was achieved. Lastly, Franklin was
innovative. His various inventions such as the Franklin stove, the lightning rod, and bifocals

The Theme Of Freedom In Sorry For Your Loss By Bridget Keehan
Life can change in an instant; one moment you are a free bird flying high and in the next you live
in a cage surrounded by darkness. Some people say that freedom is one of the biggest lib erties of
man, but what happens when all that is taken away. The importance of freedom and how quickly
things can change are the central themes in the short storySorry for your Loss written by Bridget
Keehan in 2008, where the author paints a picture of a life without free dom.
A third person narrator tells the story, the point of view being the chaplainEvie. The fact that Evie
is the one, who tells the story, has a significant effect, because it is through her eyes that we

How Brains Make Up Their Minds Book Review
Walter J. Freeman examines how we humans control our behavior and comprehend and analyze the
world around us in How Brains Make Up Their Minds. Though, due to the complex nature of both
neuroscience and psychology, Freeman begins with a much needed clarification regarding
semantics. Freeman depicts the differences of intent, motive, and desire after introducing his theory
on self determination: Individuals are credited and responsible for their actions.
Within the first chapter, Freeman lays out the books format by stating not only the topic of each
proceeding chapter, but also paragraph summaries of each, almost as if giving an outline to an
argument. This book is much like a staircase; building on top of the previous platform. Beginning
with his theory on our intentionality, Freeman then branches to his beliefs on meaning, and how
meaning is derived from intentionality. To the author, meanings are our personal interpretations of
our intentional behaviors. Our self estimations of the consequences of intentional behaviors creates
what we perceive to be the meanings of our actions. This idea of ... Show more content on

Through non linear dynamics, he discusses Chaos Theory, in which it is believed that structure is
created from the existence of chaos. These dynamics, explained as neurons organized hierarchical,
will be Freeman s basis for his beliefs on perception and the senses. The construction of neural
activity patterns stems from perception and sense of the world. He continues by explaining how
these patterns become thoughts, which are then translated into meaning. Structures in the brain then
create enormous patterns of all senses blended together, creating a coordinative interaction. In order
for self organized behavior to occur, this chorus of singers hearing and reacting to the others, as
Freeman figuratively used, must

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Perkins Gilman
Perkins Gilman aptly used narrative voice to shape the meaning of The Yellow Wallpaper, by
writing a first person narrative about a woman who slowly loses herself to madness. This voice
is one of a woman who may possibly have post partum depression or some other form of manic
depression, and her unheard cries for help. She slowly draws within herself, and allows the insanity
to take over. Within the first few paragraphs we learn general characteristics about the narrator: she
is middle class, as indicated by the phrase mere ordinary people (354); we also learn that she is
married, suggested a statement about John laughing at her, something she says is only expected in
marriage. Though we are never given her name, these generic aspects... Show more content on

Early on, she openly admits that she may be ill, which quickly lends some reason to doubt when it
comes to some of the things she talks about. Are there really women hiding behind the wallpaper?
Surely not. Is there a woman lurking in the bushes outside? Unlikely. Are the patterns and shapes
on the wallpaper interesting and thought provoking? Probably so. That is all she thought of the
wallpaper when first confined to the room yellowish in color, with strange shapes woven into the
texture. However, as her condition worsens, the way she looks at the wallpaper grows more and
more distorted. The textures and strokes take shape and form; they turn into living beings, women
who are confined between the layers of wallpaper. The narrator begins to feel sympathetic for them,
feeling trapped and confined as well. The narrative slowly shifts from first to second person, with
the inclusion of a you. Instead of simply describing her feelings, she then begins to say this is how
such a thing would make you feel.
The narrator s descriptions of the room itself change with each entry. At first, it is merely
irritating. She describes the color as repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow,
strangely faded by the slow turning light (356). Any reliable, sane person would be irritated by an
ugly yellow on their walls. By the second entry, she admits she has a growing fondness for the
room, aside from the wallpaper. She starts to pick out

The Effect Of Parent Child Relationships On Human Development
Carr and Cortina provide a powerful explanation of Self Psychology, Heinz Kohut and John
Bowlby, working independently, contributed to a paradigm shift within psychoanalysis. Their
combined work dramatically changed the way many psychoanalysts understand the effect of
parent child relationships on human development, as well as the very nature of
psychopathology. This, in turn, transformed clinical practice as their ideas spread and many
analysts became more emotionally responsive, creating a friendlier, more respectful therapeutic
ambiance. (Carr Cortina, 2011, pg.42) Kohut was able to notice patients who were not doing
well with the classic Freudian theories and he began to listen to those same patients who were
suffering from low self esteem, lack of motivation and many difficulties on social and sexual
spheres. The presented patient s self concept includes the above descriptions of what Kohut
points out as well as, feelings of worthlessness, inadequacy, and helplessness which pervades
functioning in negative ways (Hepworth, Larsen, Rooney, Strom Gottfried, 2011, p. 209). And
some of that damaging thinking has led the patient to continue to self harm and abuse substances
because she feels that this is what she deserves and that it is too late to start her outlook on over.
The Guilty Man was also viewed very differently between Frued and Kohut. Frued viewed it as, a
person who was trying to negotiate id, ego and superego and how people felt guilty about id

Pirates Of The Caribbe On Stranger Tides
Hollywood today spends more money on movies than ever before, with an average budget of
$140 million per movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides; the most expensive movie
ever made; cost approximately $378.5 million and that was five years ago. This isn t surprising
since history is witness to a rising trend in money spent on movies, even after adjusting for
inflation, however, their impact on the industry isn t as large as their budgets. Over the years,
lower cost productions like B Movies have played a major role in carrying the industry forward
by keeping it stable, moving and profitable in times of trouble. B Movies came to be the need of
the hour after The Great Depression and World War II. Money was tight everywhere and
Hollywood could not continue making extravagant movies therefore they turned to low budget
commercial films. These movies not only have an economical significance in Hollywood, they
have made more than one contribution to the industry. These low risk movies provided
directors, writers and producers with a wide scope for experimentation and led to the creation of
many a genres and sub genres. The origins of B Movies are humble but over the years that they
grew in Hollywood, they became more significant and successful, yet their progress from Rags to
Riches remains more a behind the scenes heroic act than a superhero effort. B Movies originally
came into being to serve the purpose of being the second class feature in the double feature

A Literature Review On Biological Neural Network
Chapter 2: Literature Review
In this chapter, we discuss a brief introduction of neural network and biometrics . Traditionally, the
term neural network had been used to refer to a network or circuit of biological neurons. Neural
networks are inspired by our brains. The modern usage of the term often refers to artificial neural
networks, which are composed of artificial neurons or nodes. Thus, the term has two distinct usages:
2.1 Biological Neural Network generally, a biological neural network is consists of a set or sets of
chemically linked or functionally linked neurons. The human brain owns about 1014 synapses and
1011 neurons. A neuronconsisting of a soma (cell body),dendrites (receive signal) and axons (send
signal). A synapses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Endangered Species
Many species vital to ensuring that today s environment will thrive are becoming extinct. If a
species is slowly dwindling, and in imminent danger of becoming nonexistent, this species is
considered to be endangered. One in four mammals, one in eight birds, one third of all amphibians
and 70% of the world s assessed plants on the... IUCN Red Listare in jeopardy (IUCN, 2016).
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, or IUCN, upwards of 16,000
species are threatened with extinction, including both plants and animals (IUCN, 2016). Before
becoming endangered, a species will show warning signs, either by starting to lose biological
diversity or by losing the habitats for that species to flourish in, or in the worst case, both. The
word endangered can sometimes be confused with threatened, extirpated, or extinct. Extirpated
refers to the state of a species where its population has died out in a certain area or range, but
other populations of said species still exist elsewhere (Olden, Julian D., 2008). When a species is
considered threatened, or vulnerable, this refers to the state of the species being susceptible to
endangerment and extinction ( Extinction crisis escalates ). So if a species is threatened, the first
signs of endangerment come along, which are similar signs to that of a species in danger of
becoming threatened, including lack of genetic diversity, or overhunting may be evident. (
Extinction crisis escalates ). When a species is labelled

Allegory In Veidt s Watchmen Moore And Gibbons
In Watchmen, Moore and Gibbons have a few subplots branching off of the main story. One of
these subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a
pirate comic book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this
comic interposed with the real storyline. In this passage of WatchmenMoore and Gibbons utilize
the gritty allegory of the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the
graphic noveland to give the reader more insight to the question raised throughout the entire story:
Who watches the Watchmen?

universe, the Black Freighter. The overarching plot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one of the key themes from Watchmen. The Watchmen, who use their time and effort
attacking people who they believe to be the cause of the recent murders, make hasty determinations
of culpability and impose their vigilante execution without any foresight were doomed to make
mistakes. And, in defending the innocents, this raises the questions: how many mistakes will be
tolerated before one is considered villainous? How many innocent civilians can one harm without
becoming the very monster being fought against? Moore and Gibbons were using the Watchmen
not as a case for the necessity for people to take justice upon themselves but to show the idea that
vigilantes are essentially destined to turn into the villains they fight against. The main story is the
example of the message contained within the Tales of the Black

Compare And Contrast Soccer Vs Sports Essay
In the 2014 soccer World Cup finals 18.2 million worldwide viewers tuned in for it. In comparison
the 2013 baseball World Series game 6 (when the Red Sox won the series) had 19.2 worldwide
viewers. The World Series overall has had lower television rating compared to the past, but soccer
can hardly be considered the reason for that. Baseballhas been voted America s 2nd favorite sport
(behind football) and soccer was voted America s 4th favorite sport. Therefore, baseball is better
and more popular than soccer.
Baseball had been the most popular sport in America all the way up to 1985 when football took
over. So for most of the 20th century is was America s favorite sport. Some of my opinions are

Unfortunately in 1985 football took that over. But still baseball maintained to stay America s
most popular sport for 27 years when soccer was never America s most popular sport. And I think
27 is better than 0. Also, even if baseball isn t the most popular sport right now, it s still 2 spaces
ahead of soccer.
Baseball is not going to lose it s popularity to soccer anytime soon though. I already explained
that I would rather pay to watch baseball than to watch soccer for free, but another reason I think
that is because soccer is a new sport to America since the MLS was only founded in 1993, so that
means more people have been growing up watching baseball teams from their area instead of
soccer teams and that means their kids are watching baseball and I think it will take a few
generations just to shake that off.
It is hard to find a reason why baseball would be less of a popular sport than soccer, (I bet some
people could come up with some reasons) but I think overall you can t beat most of the facts.
Maybe it s because I play baseball and I like to watch it, or maybe because of all the websites that I
looked at saying baseball is more popular than soccer, but I do think that baseball is better and

why. The experiment was performed by placing two separate circles (one red papermate and one

on the lead pencil path first, and then on the red papermate pen path to count how many seconds the
termite remained on or followed the pathway. The termite stayed on the red papermate line for a

on the pencil path, and stayed for a total of zero seconds. During the second trial a new termite
was placed on the red papermate pen line it also stayed on the path for the maximum thirty
seconds. Later the same termite was placed on the lead pencil path and reacted just like the first
termite, walked away from the pencil path. It was very odd that during the third trial the termite
did react to the lead pencil circle for 10 (ten) seconds, meaning it followed the path of the pencil
for that time. In the fourth and fifth trial the termite did the same thing as the first and second
termites they followed only the red papermate pen path and walked away from the lead pencil

A Dystopian Future in Brave New World Essay examples
Brave New World is a remarkable journey into the future wherein mankind is dehumanized by the
progress and misuse of technology to the point where society is a laboratory produced race of
beings who are clones devoid of identity only able to worship the three things they have been
preconditioned to love: Henry Ford, their idol; Soma, a wonder drug; and sex (Dusterhoof, Guynn,
Patterson, Shaw, Wroten and Yuhasz 1). The misuse of perfected technologies, especially those
allowing the manipulation of the human brain and genes, have created a pleasure seeking world

Regardless of the progress of technology, the real issue is not the capabilities and potential uses
of new sciences. The real issue, as it is in Brave New World, is that there will always exist those
who use new technologies for personal gain, evil pursuits and as an attempt to maintain power
and control (like the State does in Brave New World). The ideal concept may be a state of
stability that it unchanging, but this comes from our own internal dichotomy between a need
for stability and the conflict with the instability of being real. No state has ever achieved such a
stable condition in the history of mankind anyway, Historically, no actual political state has ever
achieved stability and only a very few have approximated it...Even so this is the aim for which
all politicians and political states plan (Firchow 85). Therefore, even though we have the power
to splice and locate genes that will modify human characteristics and behavior (like manipulating
a baby s sex or sexuality), who would choose to allow this power in only the hands of a few,
powerful interests? What would stop powerful white monied interests from trying to rid society of
supposed undesirables like blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals or even women? After all, by being

Persuasive Essay On Euthanasia
Euthanasia, a relatively new word, but its contents as old as humanity itself. In other words, it is
assisted suicide, deliverance. Death affects all of us, however, in reality, no one talks about it. In
the final phase of life, people should have the right to decide if they want to die from the hands of
a doctor. Euthanasia is a far quieter alternative of leaving the world than drastic suicidefor incurable
diseases and inhuman sufferers. The doctor should be able to comply with a reasoned request of a
patient without being sued in the future. To illustrate, 86 percent of public support euthanasia for
the terminally ill or on life support ( Euthanasia Statistics ). Euthanasia should be legalized through
the whole world because people should be able to decide whether they want to live or die. A person
sufferingfrom a serious illness that is getting worse and worse every day and causes that the person
has to stay in a hospital bed while having a cruel pain should have a right to euthanasia.
Unfortunately, this assisted deathis forbidden in most countries all over the world. However,
according to The Economist newspaper in some countries in Europe such as Netherlands,
Belgium and Luxembourg allow assisted suicide ( Over My Dead Body; Assisted Suicide ). At

Pathophysiology Of Alcoholism And Addictive Disorders
1.Describe the pathophysiology of alcoholism and addictive disorders.
The pathophysiology of alcoholism begins after alcohol the ingestion of alcohol. It is absorbed and
unaltered through the stomach and intestines. Next it is distributed throughout the body through
the blood and absorbed by all tissues and fluids (Huether, 2012, p. 72). Furthermore, in the liver the
alcohol blood content is metabolized into acetaldehyde by the enzymes process of alcohol
dehydrogenase (ADH), the microsomal ethanol oxidizing system (MEOS), and catalase (Huether
McCance, 2012). Next, the metabolizing effects the central nervous system (CNS) and exhibits a
depressant action. It is first expressed in the subcortical structures of the brain. This has an effect of
disorientation of motor skills and intellect. With an increase in blood alcohol concentration, the
medullary centers become depressed and as a result affects respiration (Huether McCance, 2012). In
addition, the effects of alcoholism encourage hepatic and gastric changes. The hepatic effect is
caused by acetaldehyde, in which, induces inflammation, fatty deposits and enlargement of the liver
(Huether McCance, 2012).
2.Discuss the concept of tolerance to alcohol and the diagnostic criteria for alcohol/substance abuse.
Individual tolerance vary upon their ability to metabolize alcohol. Genetics has been proven to
influence the metabolic rate of alcohol in the liver. Furthermore, this affects the metabolism of

A Talent Management Strategy
A Talent Management Strategy Formulate a talent management strategy to encompass the entire
talent requirements of the organization. When discussing and planning your organization s future,
it s important to consider not just the goals, objectives, and initiatives, but clearly how to
accomplish them. The most important contributor is undoubtedly your employees. Aligning the
organization s business strategy with its employees is called talent management, and it encompasses
aligning the right employee with the right position in the organization. Talent managementis a
business strategy and must be fully incorporated within all of the employee connected practices of
the organization. Retaining and attracting talented employees,... Show more content on

Determine the key components of talent management, including identifying, assessing, and
developing talent. Talent management consist of six components that, when implemented
strategically, combine to keep an organization on the leading edge. These components are: Strategic
Employee Planning, Talent Acquisition and Retention, Performance Management, Learning and
Motivating, Career Development, and Succession Planning. Strategic Employee Planning is the
practice of developing your organizational goals and strategic plan. It is also knowing how to
achieve your goals and implement the plan. Another responsibility of employee planning is
identifying the key roles and personnel who will assist you in attaining them. Talent Acquisition and
Retention is hiring new talent into your organization and recognizing and cultivating talent you
already have in the organization. Promoting from within your organization is more cost effective
and encourages employee engagement and loyalty. Performance Management is when the right
person is aligned with the right role and position within the organization. Its end goal is to make
sure that roles align with your business strategy to achieve its goals. It develops goals for success,
supports employee development, and moves the organization in a positive direction. Learning and

Consumer Culture In Pop Art
The pop movement established itself during the rapid multinational corporate American expansion
of the late 1950 s to mid 1960 s (Mamiya 1992, 14). Recognised for their study of subjects of
popular culture and incorporation of commercial techniques. (Burton 2007, 113), Pop artists
embraced the culture of the masses (Wilson 2011, 3). Although the Pop artists remained critically
aware of the shortcomings within consumer culture their entanglement with the mentality and
techniques of the culture ...surely rendered any potential for critique futile and invalid. (Mamiya
1992, 158). This essay will explore the interplay between critique and celebration of consumer
culture within Pop Artand possible reasons for the diversity in reaction. This will be achieved
through the study of the influence of consumer culture on the Pop artists, the artists response to this
emerging culture, as well as the positive and critical representations of consumer culture within
their work. The complex and contradictory relationship between consumer culture and pop artists
will be explored through Richard Hamilton s Just what is it that makes today s homes so different,
so appealing? (1956), Andy Warhol s Campbell s Soup Cans (1962) and Tom Wesselmann s Great
American Nude #54 (1964).
To discuss the pop artist s relationship with consumer culture, we must first define consumer culture

Summary Of Miss Julie
Miss Julie... The old lady sat there peering at me with her pale blue eyes, till I began to feel
uneasy. Her hair was matted and frizzy, appearing as if it hadn t been brushed in years. What d
you say your name was? she asked, then reached down, picked up the butt of a cigar lighting it,
puffing to get it lit. I had not even spoken a word to her; but I was not going to be rude, so I told
her my name. My names Miss Julie, she said thoughtfully... I had a sister named Susan, she was
a pretty lady like you. she mused. I smiled and said thank you, Miss Julie. Then turned back to
my sister, with whom I was trying to engage in conversation, to get her out of her own fantasy
world. When the old lady spoke up again, saying that she wished she still had a sister to visit
with her, as I was doing with mine. Your sister, she s a real sweet lady, she said. Yes ma am, she
is, I agreed, turning again back to my sister. Miss Julie though, lonely for conversation again
spoke up and this time my sister joined in, if only for a moment or two, till she again drifted
back into her own fantasy world. Miss Julie, looked sadly at me as she said. You know,
sometimes all that medicine, just don t help, you know... I agreed, that no it didn t. We sat and
talked off and on, for the remainder of my visit with my sister, and as I was getting ready to leave,

Geothermal Energy is the Solution to the Energy Crisis Essay
Geothermal Energy: A Solution to the Energy Crisis
Abstract
So far, scientists have not found a successful substitute for fossil fuels that can handle both the
large demand for energy and solve the global warming problem. I propose that geothermal energy
is a clean, widely available, and renewable alternative to the usage of fossil fuels. In this paper, I
will explain how use of geothermal resources can be energy efficient, environmentally clean, and
cost effective. I believe that the US government should increase funding for geothermal energy
research. This may be the solution to our present energy crisis and global warming.

Fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) take up about 80 % of total energy consumed. Fossil fuels
cause pollution and global warming yet we continue to use them. Our demand for fossil fuels has
become so great that according to current projections, Earth s reserves will be depleted within the
next 200 years. But we do not actually have 200 years to wait. Our run away consumption of fossil
fuel not only endangers our ability to meet our future energy needs but also the environment. Fossil
fuels cause significant pollution and global warming. This in turn compromises wildlife habitats
and can even lead to extinction of animal and plant species. By looking at new sources such as
geothermal energy, we can move towards a source that is not extremely harmful and yet still
effective.
Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is heat energy that is stored underneath Earth s surface. It is mainly found at
volcanoes, hot springs, or geysers. Heat stored in the hot water and steam found at these locations is
captured and can be used to heat buildings or generate electricity. This energy source is renewable
because heat from the earth is continuously produced. To obtain energy, you must either use hot
water or steam from the source. The most common way of capturing the energy from geothermal
sources is to tap into naturally occurring hydrothermal convection systems where cooler water seeps
into Earth s crust, is heated up, and then rises to the

Global Finite Element Matrix Construction Based on a...
Introduction
Many physical phenomena in stationary condition such as electrical and magnetic potential, heat
conduction, fluid flow and elastic problems in static condition can be described by elliptic partial
differential equations (EPDE). The EPDE does not involve a time variable, and so describes the
steady state of problems. A linear EPDE has the general form as presented in Eq. (1), where a,b,c
are coefficient functions, the term f is a source (excitation) function and u is the unknown variable.
All of this function can vary spatially (x,y,z).
∇(c∙∇u)+b∙∇u+au=f(1)
EPDE can be solved exactly by mathematical procedures like Fourier series [1]. However, the
classical solution frequently no exists and for those problems where is possible the use of these
analytical methods, many simplifications are done [2]. Consequently, several numerical methods
have been developed to efficiently solve EPDE such as the finite element method (FEM), finite
difference and others.
The FEM have several advantages over other methods. The main advantage is that it is particularly
effective for problems with complicated geometry using unstructured meshes [2]. One way to get a
suitable framework for solving EPDEs by using FEM is formulate them as variational problems
also called weak solution.
The variacional formulation of an EPDE is a mathematical treating for converting the strong
formulation to a weak formulation, which permits the approximation in elements or subdomains,
and the EPDE

Although basketball may seem like it was an instant hit and has been around forever that is not the

Basketball had its humble beginnings in the YMCA, founded by a 30 year old instructor named

CRCP strongly feels that organized consumers and lawyers can play a very effective and leading
role in the furtherance of consumer cause in Pakistan. An attempt, therefore, has been made to
provide them with a ready reference on laws dealing with consumer protection to pursue the cause
and get a fair deal both in the market and provision of state services. It is hoped that the whole
discourse on consumer protection, which lacks a legal perspective, will gain impetus from this
publication. We also hope that both consumers and practising lawyers would find it convenient,

Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Frankenstein
Coleridge s Rime of the Ancient Mariner tells the story of an ancient mariner who kills an
albatross and brings upon himself and his ship s crew a curse. The ancient mariner travels the
world, unburdening his soul, telling his story to whomever needs to hear it. Shelley alludes to the
poem several times.
Robert Walton in Frankenstein is similar to the Wedding Guest from Rime of the Ancient Mariner,
with Victor Frankenstein playing the role of the mariner. As the mariner feels compelled to share
his story to one who needs to hear it, so does Victor. The explicit theme in Rime of the Ancient
Mariner, that love conquers all, is a clue as to how the tragedy that occurs in Frankenstein s life
could have been avoided.

The very deep did rot: O Christ! That ever this should be! Yes, slimy things did crawl with legs
Upon the slimy sea (Coleridge pt. II, st. 9).
This quote shows The Mariner s outlook on nature in the beginning of the poem. The Mariner refers
to the creatures of the sea as slimy things, which obviously has a negative connotation. However,
once Coleridge teaches his character the lesson of the inherent beauty in nature, the Mariner learns
that all creatures are beautiful. In Shelley s piece, which also has this theme, it seems that
Frankenstein really never learns this lesson, while the creature does seem to grasp this concept.
I beheld those I loved spend vain sorrow upon the graves of William and Justine, the first hapless
victims to my unhallowed arts (Shelley 79).
This quote shows Shelley s theme of how devastating the consequences can be for one single
unthinking act. Obviously, Victor s single unthinking act was his creation of the creature. When he
made this creature, there is no way that he thought he would kill two of his closest loved ones, and
later kill more. However, it happened and Shelley is showing us how devastating the effects can be.
Similarly, in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Mariner also suffers for a single, unthinking act.
His act was the killing of the albatross. He paid for it in more than one way. First, he was sent to a

Layoff Precautions
According to Davis (n.d.), the very important first step for a business owner or human resource
manager to lay off people is deciding on whom should be laid off. There are several legal reasons
to terminate an employee. The first group to consider is individuals that have poor performances,
which include lack of punctuality, attendance, or failure to produce desired outcomes. Higher
salaried employees can also be replaced when it comes to layoffs. Other individuals should be
terminated are those who resist to company innovation, be insubordination, negativism, or ethical
lapses and do not conform to company values. Some precautions should be considered while
execute the process of layoff. The manager who conduct the layoff should not express his or her
emotional feelings or threaten the terminated employee. The manager should not promise to rehire
the employee at a later date, just to make that employee feel better. It might set the expectation for
the terminated employee. If the employee will not be rehired, the company might face a legal issue
for not keeping the promise. The company should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is the safety of the remaining staffs. There were so many shooting cases in workplaces have been

end of regular income and probably the termination of medical benefits, and a retirement saving.
For the business owner, it could mean terminating trusted, well performing workers in a desperate
means to reduce the expenses. The end result can be devastating to both the owner and the
terminated employee. Layoff might not be the best solution for a company to cut down on costs.

How Can Hybrid Cars Have Affected The Automobile Industry
Hybrid and electric cars have affected the automobile industry by using alternative energies other
than fuel and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted into the atmosphere. Like
everything, there are many advantages and disadvantages to having a hybrid or an electric car.
The first electric car was built in Scotland by Robert Anderson in 1839. (Berman, 2011) Over the
years there were little improvements but sometime between 1890 and 1910, there were significant
improvements in the battery technology that were made by H. Tudor, Edison, and Junger.

one as well. One of the huge advantages to owning an electric car is that zero gas if required for
the car to run. (Rinkesh, 2016) So instead of potentially spending thousands of dollars on gas

Since the electric car doesn t use gas and runs on a fully electric powered engine, they are very
eco friendly. They don t emit any toxic gases, smoke, or any other fumes into the atmosphere.
(Rinkesh, 2016) This makes the electric car even better than the hybrid car because the hybrid car

Schizoid Personality Disorder
Clinical Description
1. Presentation of problem Schizoid Personality Disorder is a personality disorder in which an
individual chooses to avoid close relationships with other people, takes pleasure in little, if any,
activities, appears to be indifferent to others opinions of them, and they are typically asexual. Many
people confuse schizoid personality disorder with schizophrenia, but they are two separate
disorders. Schizoid personality disorder is not a mood disorder nor does an individual with
schizoid personality disorder present with symptoms such as paranoia or hallucinations. In some
instances, schizoid personality disorder can be a precursor for schizophrenia, but in order to be
diagnosed with schizoid personality disorder, an individual must not present with symptoms of
schizophrenia.
According to Barlow (2015), individuals with schizoid personality disorder present pervasive
patterns of detachment and avoid interpersonal relationships. For example, a schizoid is most
likely not going interact in a group setting or initiate conversations with people; they do not desire
closeness with other people. Some people may think schizoids behave the way they do because
they are shy or have social anxiety, but that is not the case; schizoids choose to isolate themselves
and typically only have

Southeastern Native American Literature
Native American literature from the Southeastern United States is deeply rooted in the oral
traditions of the various tribes that have historically called that region home. While the tribes most
integrally associated with the Southeastern U.S. in the American popular mind the FIVE
CIVILIZED TRIBES (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole) were forcibly

Members of the Five Civilized Tribes were at the vanguard of Native American literature during

educated member of the Cherokee tribe who was born in Georgia, Boudinot was the editor of the
bilingual newspaper The Cherokee Phoenix, the first periodical published by Native Americans.
Poor Sarah was not commercial fiction it was a propagandistic tract from a religious advocate.

There has been a snowball effect of allegations as more recent incidents have been mentioned that

Essay on The Effects of Parenting Styles on Child Outcome
There is no way in which parents can evade having a determining effect upon their children s
personality, character, and competence (Baumrind, 1978). It is amazing that children who are
raised in completely different environments can go on to possess similar characteristics later in life.
But why is this the case? The functions that parents perform greatly influence how children
develop. A tremendous amount of research has been done on the effects of parenting styles since
1966 when Diana Baumrind first published her three prototypes of parenting styles, but many
parents fail to understand the power they possess in shaping the future lives of their children and
the need for a responsible strategy regarding the rearing of their... Show more content on

Although most indicative of Western society, these parenting styles have been validated in other
countries as well, including Australia, China, and Russia (Hart, et al., 1998; Leung et al., 1998). A
large amount of literature published before the 1990s focused on the effects of parenting styles on
the outcomes of children, establishing the benefits of the authoritative style as opposed to the
negative outcomes generated by the authoritarian and permissive approaches (Demo Cox, 2000). In
essence, the authoritative style is a strategy that sets reasonable rules and guidelines that are in the
best interests of the child. These rules supply structure while still allowing the child to explore and
begin the process of learning what behaviors are acceptable. The authoritative approach to parenting
is considered to be the most balanced style. In this category, children are expected to maintain
maturity and respect for the rules and regulations that are set in place. An open dialogue between
the parent and the child is encouraged. This allows children to feel independent. Any punishment is
reasonable and typically explained to the child so that they understand what it is that they did
wrong and why they were punished. This approach to parenting yields many benefits for the child.
Children who are products of this approach generally see higher academic achievement during

Medical Billing
Running Head: MEDICAL BILLING AND CODING Medical Billing and Coding as a Career
Abstract: Since I became a mother, I have always wanted a job that would allow me to work at
home. I have an associate in accounting and tried doing bookkeeping from home but that did
not really work out. I did some research and found that being an insurance medical biller and coder
is one of the best jobs to have for working at home. Top Medical Billers can earn over $40,000 a
year either at home or in the office. Employment of billing and posting clerks and machine
operators is expected to grow by about 4 percent from 2006 to 2016. In 2006, billing and posting

My Ananotating Style
I decided to annotate pages 2 and 3 from our Writing Analytically textbook because the contents
of those two pages helped me grasp the importance of analyzing information more. Since the copy
of the textbook that I have is an e book, I was originally going to annotate them on my computer.
But I realized that my annotations on my laptop were very restricted, and were not as in depth as I
would like them to be, so I decided to print out both pages and annotate them the old fashioned way.
My annotating style doesn t have as much structure in comparison to the techniques that others
incorporate, but it has proven fruitful for me so far. To annotate, I used a couple of different items.
Among these are blue and pink pens, and a yellow highlighter.

Occupational Therapy Personal Statement
OTCAS Personal Statement
There is an anonymous quote I often encounter which states, Find three hobbies you love: one to
make you money, one to keep you in shape, and one to be creative. I believe that people can have
many hobbies and passions in life, but there are few things that constitute what our purpose is. I
feel that when we can combine our passions into a career that also has a positive impact on
humanity, we have found our purpose.
I am not going to tell you that it has always been my dream to become an occupational therapist.
For most of my school years, I did not know what profession I wanted to pursue. I did know,
however, that I desired to work in healthcare because of my personal experience with my family s
injuries/diseases, as well as my interests in how the body functions and heals. For a while, I was
adjudicating between becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist because the two
professions are quite similar. After much contemplation, I realized that my high attention to detail,
personality, and my passions for science, art, and the mind made occupational therapy the career I
wanted to strive towards. When I asked myself what my purpose was, I discerned that I did not

Jerome Lawrence Inherit The Wind
Jerome Lawrence who was born in 1915 and passed away in 2004, was a playwright with his
partner Robert E. Lee. Jerome Lawrence s childhood and life experiences have shaped his works.
One of his plays with Robert E. Lee was based on the famous Scopes Trial, which was the
prosecution of a teacher for teaching his class the theory of evolution. The recurring theme
throughout the play Inherit The Windis the right to freedom of thought.
2. Historical Context
This play was created directly after the Mccarthyism era where many people were accused of being
communist in America. They viewed the McCarthy investigations as a shackling of freedom of
thought through coercion, public pressure and fear of punishment (Miller 3). The Mccarthyism era

what to do in life and don t know what to believe, but it is up to that person to have the freedom to
decide for themselves. As the theme developed through the story Drummond would contradict the
bible. While giving another opinion regarding the bible, Drummond does not do this to discredit it

The Doctor Who Was An Angel
For the last 20 years and counting, I ve concluded she was an angel: the doctor who found me in
my hospital room bleeding to death, in the wee hours after my double mastectomy reconstruction
surgery. She was the shadow standing beside my bed; who shook me and said, You re bleeding
internally. You have to go back to surgery
. With the little strength I had left in me, I did all the
shadow asked of me. Like in the operation room when I was too near death to be given anesthesia,
I swallowed the tube she asked me to swallow, like a champ, and without choking on it, one bit.
When it was all over, several days later, and I had regained consciousness, there was a sweet
smiling lady doctor, no longer a shadow, who stood in the midst of my three doctors. Who are
you? Where did you come from? I asked the sweet smiling face behind golden rimmed glasses.
From Chicago, she responded to me, facetiously.
No, I plead. Where did you really come from? Which she did answer, but said, Get some rest. You
ve been through a lot. We ll talk soon. (Fast Forward)
I learned a few days after my surgery that I had lost over half of the blood in my body, and that I
should have died. And had it not have been for this shadow/ this doctor, I would have. But where
did she come from? She was not my doctor. She had no right or reason to come into my hospital
room. But one day she came alone and visited me in my hospital room. And that day she told me

Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies By Seth Holmes
When thinking of Mexican American immigrants what comes to mind? The American public
consistently listens to the media telling stories of how these people cross the border illegally,
which is deemed as a crime. Immigrants are portrayed just as stealing American jobs and
benefiting from government programs such as welfare. Countless people think it was a
voluntary action for them to come to the United State, therefore whatever comes their way is
what they deserve regardless if it is health problems, racism or low paying jobs. However, what
most of American people don t realize is that the majority of Mexican migrants are forced to
migrate to the United State in order to survive. They constantly risk their lives to cross a
dangerous border in order to find the jobs that the American people don t want to endure. In the
book called Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies , the author, Seth Holmes focuses on the lives of an
indigenous Mexican group called the Triquis. Throughout the book, he focuses on the journey of
the group from their hometown of Oaxaca to farms in California and Washington. The book also
emphasizes how racism and health problems of migrant workers have become invisible to the
American people. It is commonly seen that their personal damage such as health problems and
placement on the social hierarchy system is only to be blamed on their sole decision to come to a
country where they are considered illegal. Instead of blaming the Triqui people for their sickness,

How Does Running Impact My Life
Run Forest, Run! is what we hear people say when we run around the community. I really quite
enjoy running on the cross country team for my high school. Running has been a part of who I am
for a very long time. As a little kid I would always like to run around my neighborhood chasing
people or just runningfor fun. I was just really active as a kid. What really impacted my life was my
first year in middle school. It all started in sixth grade and after sixth grade my passion for
running grew. All three years of running in middle school were a success especially in eighth
grade when I qualified for the state finals. First of all, in sixth grade I attended Gompers Jr. High
and I had no idea what sports were until I decided to join cross country

The most prime example of the Gullah tale in the text is in the foreword section of the novel.
Morrison tells a story of a story where a man named Solomon escapes slavery while at the same
time abandoning his family. This allusion is a connection to the Gullah stories of the slaves who
would fly back to Africa to free themselves. The allusion appears throughout the rest of the novel.
For instance, in the first chapter, an insurance agent by the name of Robert Smith announced
that he would fly off the roof of Mercy, a local hospital, to the other side of Lake Superior. I will
take off from Mercy and fly away on my own wings, he said ( Song of Solomon 3). More
references to flight and the Gullah tale are made in the novel; Song of Solomon ends with the
flight of Milkman Dead off Solomon s Leap. Milkman stopped waving and narrowed his eyes.
He could just make out Guitar s head and shoulders in the dark...Without wiping away the tears,
taking a deep breath, or even bending his knees he leaped (SOS 337). The reference to the tale in
the novel helps to establish equivalence between the characters and the readers. In other words, by
renewing the tale in her novel, the message of the tale becomes more comprehensible to the
readers especially to a new generation of African American readers who can learn about and relate

Conflict Resolution Essay
Conflict Resolution Conflict in the work place is inevitable. People will argue, disagree, or treat
another badly for many reasons. Racial prejudice, sexual prejudice, religious prejudice, or simply
not liking someone can and will cause conflict.
Conflict resolution can be handled in a one on one manner (the boss talking to employees) or can be
handled through mediation or negotiation. The one on one method will work in a small business
setting where there is employee conflict or business conflict. In a larger corporate setting mediation
or negotiation is often used to settle conflicts. Union negotiations are a good example of this.
Listed below are some methods that may be used for conflict resolution. Many of these can be ...

In determining you BATNA, a straightforward review of your interest will give you the clearest
picture.
If you accept your BATNA, you know when you can simply turn your back on the negotiations.
But it is important not to ignore the other party s BATNA. The relative strength of each party s
BATNA will determine the balance of power each can exercise. 4. Silence is golden.
This is true for two reasons: If one party is highly opinionated or emotional, if their approach is
threatening or extremely demanding, keeping quiet after they finish speaking can be quite
unsettling to them. It is like jujitsu; you allow them to be tripped up by their own forcefulness.
Most people are troubled by silence in the midst of heated discussion. Sometimes silence is viewed
as disapproval but since no specific disapproval has been voiced, it cannot be treated as an attack. It
has happened on many occasions that, when met with silence, people have modified their previous
statements to make them more palatable.
Silence is an important element in the crucial tool called Active Listening. The job of a good
negotiator is to listen to and understand what others are saying. After all, you can t make an
intelligent response to an opinion you do not understand. The discipline of Active Listening
requires that you focus on what another person is saying; don t spend your time shaping a stinging
response that

Analysis Of Benjamin Button And The Great Gatsby
Dissatisfaction in Benjamin Button and The Great Gatsby
In the novel The Great Gatsby and the short story Benjamin Button , the characters are dissatisfied
with aspects in life. In The Great Gatsby dissatisfaction is associated with lack of fulfillment in
Dreams. In Benjamin Button dissatisfaction is surrounded by Benjamin s curious case of aging in
reverse.
Through these two pieces of writing by Fitzgerald there are a lot of unhappy relationships. With
bad relationships come trends such as abusive traits from typically one party, whether it be
emotionally or physically. In The Great Gatsby Tom Buchanan is a cruel man who is dominant and
aggressive with a strong physique. With these attributes he is a prime candidate for an abusive lover.
Look! she complained: I hurt it, we all looked the knuckle black and blue. You did it, Tom, she
said accusingly. I know you didn t mean to, but you did do it. That s what I get for marrying a
brute of a man (Gatsby 17).
In the above quotation Tom has hurt and bruised Daisy s finger. Tom is a man who views
women as a sexual object. He abuses women because he is a man who craves power. He is not
getting the gratification of power out of his relationship with Daisy and in his day to day life so
he harms the ones close to him as seen with Daisy s finger and later on in the novel when breaking
Myrtle s nose. This quotation also shows how Daisy is discontent with her relationship with Tom.

outcome of this endeavor was to be named Title 1 Exceptional Teacher of the Year. I am honored

The Effects Of Media Violence
Violence has been around since the beginning of mankind, and it is not going away anytime
soon. Ever since the era of cavemen, we have relied on violence to provide us with the basic
necessities to survive; such as food and clothing, in harsh and barren environments. Fast forward
several thousand years and these basic necessities for survival are now abundant and readily
available for a large majority of the population. Unfortunately, this hasn t decreased the presence of
violencein our society. Today s entertainment and media mostly focuses on these violent examples
because they know that it will garner the most attention. The question on everyone s mind is if
these violent images shown throughout our multiple media outlets have a direct correlation with
violent behavior. Research shows us that violent images can directly trigger violent behavior. In
order to better understand media violence I think it s important to look at what defines it and what
consequences it can have. Rowell Huesmann goes on to state, Most researchers define media
violence as visual portrayals of acts of physical aggressionby one human or human like character
against another. This definition has evolved as theories about the effects of media violence have
evolved and represents an attempt to describe the kind of violent media presentation that is most
likely to teach the viewer to be more violent (Huesmann The Impact of Electronic Media). Now the
question is, do these violent images contribute

Cultural Stereotypes In The Magdalene Sisters
According to Cleary, cultural representations of Ireland s enervating past permit present day

example of Peter Mullan s film The Magdalene Sistersto discuss the changes that have occurred in
the Irish society since and during the time of the Magdalene Laundries. According to Smith Free

From early 1970 s onwards there were less and less women surrendering themselves to the
asylums and in 1996 the last establishment, on Sean McDermott Street in Dublin, closed its doors
for the final time (O Sullivan and O Donnell). The perception of the Magdalen asylums in
twentieth century Ireland was extremely negative, whilst the asylums could have been seen as a
place of refuge during the nineteenth century; this was most definitely not the case during the
twentieth century. From documents and stories from survivors, it is clear that these women were
being held against their will and were forced to partake in unpaid labour and were stripped of all
of their rights. One of the posters for the movie contained the tagline The triumphant story of three
women who found courage to defy a century of injustice . Whilst the average stay of a woman in a
Magdalene Asylum was three years, they were haunted by their experiences for the rest of their
lives; with many emigrating in order to escape the shame filled stares of members of the
community. So, were these three women, and far too many more like them, really triumphant? The
women were free to leave the laundries once they could guarantee their fortune in some way; either
through acquiring a position or returning home

In an age where fashion and technology is constantly evolving it is important that we take a step

fashion show,a key tool to making designers collections accessible to its consumer, will be the
main focus of this essay. We shall define fashion promotion before looking at how the catwalk

we shall begin the debate of whether some fashion shows need be as extravagant and expensive as
they are. We will look at well known... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However like with any industry, things are changing and developments always occurring which
are affecting many parts of the fashion industry. Tungate goes on to highlight the most obvious
development is the availability on the web. The images of a show are displayed less than an
hour after the designer has taken a bow. With this easy accessibility there is becoming less and
less need for buyers to attend shows and instead they are able to choose their key pieces right
from their own offices. Tungate also recognizes that private pre collection gatherings in
showrooms are taking place before the actual show. This gives the buyer a chance to place their
orders without the razza matazz and overheads (Tungate,2004,12) of a show. One may ask that
if 70% of stock is being sold at pre collections ( Tungate,2004,12) then why is it necessary for
designers to stage a show at all? This comes back to what we mentioned earlier about showcasing
the brand .A show is no longer about selling a particular garment it is about selling the look and
that is McDowells justification into its considerable costs. He believes that a show easily costs
ВЈ150,000 and this sum cannot be used just for the designers indulgence,it has to serve a purpose.
Let s take a look at what Tungate might mean when using the word razzmatazz . Perhaps the best
example for us to look at is Karl Lagerfelds Fall/Winter 07 collection that was

  • 2. Chapter Two Chapter Two I ran away, sweating uncontrollably, breathing heavily as screams erupted behind me. I didn t,t look back as they cal no pleaded for me to return. I stubbornly ignored them but quickly regarded it as their voices became more clear, He s there! Don t go near him! No one returns! Suddenly the darkness covered me, eating me whole. Music, that s the first thing I noticed. The tune that filled my ears reminded me of a children s song. The medley was soft but had this odd second tune mixed in, it sent chills down my spine. Then there was a wild wind blowing from the left of me? It was all so hard to tell with the darkness around me. Finally, it all stopped, all the harsh winds and the chilling music stopped. Mom, I asked, are you alright? I looked at her face as she mouth the words that left my lips. Am I alright? Well of course I m alright dear! What would give you the impression that I wasn t? She asked. I just shook my head and smiled. I said to forget it and I was ok now. She watched as I got comfortable in my bed and as I told her goodnight. I woke up to my alarm and was about to get ready for school until I realized it was Saturday. I was going to go back to sleep when I remembered that I was gonna go out with Jonathan/John and Ted. HL7 Electronic Health Record (EHR) Electronic Health Record (EHR) standards refer to the agreed format that is applied to support the definition, use and exchange of data that is related to all the aspects of Health care Information and Technology (HIT). The standards should ensure that there is accurate, comprehensive and secure health information of an individual patient in digital format. Being HIT building blocks, they should provide a common framework of promoting uniformity in defining and identifying the components of a health system. • 4. Alexander The Great Propaganda Propaganda is known as the method of communication that is proposed to shape the viewpoint of a society to a particular source that profits an individual or a group. It also includes information that is intentionally spread, as well as the distribution of information, that is used to influence a community s views on someone or something. Propagandais used as a tool of influence, and it is also a pervasive factor in our modern day social and political organizations. Also, Alexander s eyes on this coin are a giveaway for his aggressiveness as a leader, but shows his divine side as well (The Celator, Goldsborough). This coin was issued by his successor Lysimachus in 290 BCE (Fox). This coin was made in silver and is now in the British Museum in London, England (Hellenistic Powerpoint). All coins representing Alexander were minted due to the fact of the one and only propaganda. These coins showed the people of the Hellenistic period that even though Alexander was no longer alive he was still greatly known throughout the empire. Alexander s use of propaganda, in opinion, was one of the best uses in history. He used art as propaganda to create his god like symbol for himself. In doing this he created his own use of propaganda. He conquered an empire, defeated other leaders, and gained the respect and control of his people. Alexander was one of the most brilliant and powerful known leaders in history. To this day Alexander is well known through is use of artistic and warlike propaganda. They are models of the American Character, persistent, innovative, virtuous and courageous. Benjamin Franklin was even given the title of The First American for his relentless campaign for colonial unity. Benjamin Franklin is a man of many titles, along with being one of our founding fathers he also is an author, the postmaster of the time, an inventor, a diplomat, a civic activist and many more things. Franklin had three qualities that reflected the values and characters of Americans in the 18th Century. Like many other leaders in the 18th century, he was relentless to achieve his goals and would not stop until they were accomplished. Even at a young age when Benjamin Franklin wanted to become a printer, and his father was set on him becoming a minister, he traveled to Pennsylvania to become an apprentice and later ran the publication of the Pennsylvania Gazette, one of the most successful newspapers of the time. • 7. How Brains Make Up Their Minds Book Review Walter J. Freeman examines how we humans control our behavior and comprehend and analyze the world around us in How Brains Make Up Their Minds. Though, due to the complex nature of both neuroscience and psychology, Freeman begins with a much needed clarification regarding semantics. Freeman depicts the differences of intent, motive, and desire after introducing his theory on self determination: Individuals are credited and responsible for their actions. Within the first chapter, Freeman lays out the books format by stating not only the topic of each proceeding chapter, but also paragraph summaries of each, almost as if giving an outline to an argument. This book is much like a staircase; building on top of the previous platform. Beginning with his theory on our intentionality, Freeman then branches to his beliefs on meaning, and how meaning is derived from intentionality. To the author, meanings are our personal interpretations of our intentional behaviors. Our self estimations of the consequences of intentional behaviors creates what we perceive to be the meanings of our actions. This idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Structures in the brain then create enormous patterns of all senses blended together, creating a coordinative interaction. • 8. The Yellow Wallpaper, By Perkins Gilman Perkins Gilman aptly used narrative voice to shape the meaning of The Yellow Wallpaper, by writing a first person narrative about a woman who slowly loses herself to madness. This voice is one of a woman who may possibly have post partum depression or some other form of manic depression, and her unheard cries for help. She slowly draws within herself, and allows the insanity to take over. Within the first few paragraphs we learn general characteristics about the narrator: she is middle class, as indicated by the phrase mere ordinary people (354); we also learn that she is married, suggested a statement about John laughing at her, something she says is only expected in marriage. Though we are never given her name, these generic aspects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Early on, she openly admits that she may be ill, which quickly lends some reason to doubt when it comes to some of the things she talks about. Are there really women hiding behind the wallpaper? Surely not. Is there a woman lurking in the bushes outside? Unlikely. Are the patterns and shapes on the wallpaper interesting and thought provoking? Probably so. That is all she thought of the wallpaper when first confined to the room yellowish in color, with strange shapes woven into the texture. However, as her condition worsens, the way she looks at the wallpaper grows more and more distorted. The textures and strokes take shape and form; they turn into living beings, women who are confined between the layers of wallpaper. The narrator begins to feel sympathetic for them, feeling trapped and confined as well. The narrative slowly shifts from first to second person, with the inclusion of a you. Instead of simply describing her feelings, she then begins to say this is how such a thing would make you feel. The narrator s descriptions of the room itself change with each entry. At first, it is merely irritating. She describes the color as repellent, almost revolting; a smouldering unclean yellow, strangely faded by the slow turning light (356). Any reliable, sane person would be irritated by an ugly yellow on their walls. By the second entry, she admits she has a growing fondness for the room, aside from the wallpaper. • 9. The Effect Of Parent Child Relationships On Human Development Carr and Cortina provide a powerful explanation of Self Psychology, Heinz Kohut and John Bowlby, working independently, contributed to a paradigm shift within psychoanalysis. Their combined work dramatically changed the way many psychoanalysts understand the effect of parent child relationships on human development, as well as the very nature of psychopathology. This, in turn, transformed clinical practice as their ideas spread and many analysts became more emotionally responsive, creating a friendlier, more respectful therapeutic ambiance. (Carr Cortina, 2011, pg.42) Kohut was able to notice patients who were not doing well with the classic Freudian theories and he began to listen to those same patients who were suffering from low self esteem, lack of motivation and many difficulties on social and sexual spheres. The presented patient s self concept includes the above descriptions of what Kohut points out as well as, feelings of worthlessness, inadequacy, and helplessness which pervades functioning in negative ways (Hepworth, Larsen, Rooney, Strom Gottfried, 2011, p. 209). And some of that damaging thinking has led the patient to continue to self harm and abuse substances because she feels that this is what she deserves and that it is too late to start her outlook on over. The Guilty Man was also viewed very differently between Frued and Kohut. Frued viewed it as, a person who was trying to negotiate id, ego and superego and how people felt guilty about id ... • 11. Pirates Of The Caribbe On Stranger Tides Hollywood today spends more money on movies than ever before, with an average budget of $140 million per movie. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides; the most expensive movie ever made; cost approximately $378.5 million and that was five years ago. This isn t surprising since history is witness to a rising trend in money spent on movies, even after adjusting for inflation, however, their impact on the industry isn t as large as their budgets. Over the years, lower cost productions like B Movies have played a major role in carrying the industry forward by keeping it stable, moving and profitable in times of trouble. B Movies came to be the need of the hour after The Great Depression and World War II. Money was tight everywhere and Hollywood could not continue making extravagant movies therefore they turned to low budget commercial films. These movies not only have an economical significance in Hollywood, they have made more than one contribution to the industry. These low risk movies provided directors, writers and producers with a wide scope for experimentation and led to the creation of many a genres and sub genres. The origins of B Movies are humble but over the years that they grew in Hollywood, they became more significant and successful, yet their progress from Rags to Riches remains more a behind the scenes heroic act than a superhero effort. Traditionally, the term neural network had been used to refer to a network or circuit of biological neurons. Neural networks are inspired by our brains. The modern usage of the term often refers to artificial neural networks, which are composed of artificial neurons or nodes. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, or IUCN, upwards of 16,000 species are threatened with extinction, including both plants and animals (IUCN, 2016). Before becoming endangered, a species will show warning signs, either by starting to lose biological diversity or by losing the habitats for that species to flourish in, or in the worst case, both. The word endangered can sometimes be confused with threatened, extirpated, or extinct. Extirpated refers to the state of a species where its population has died out in a certain area or range, but other populations of said species still exist elsewhere (Olden, Julian D., 2008). When a species is considered threatened, or vulnerable, this refers to the state of the species being susceptible to endangerment and extinction ( Extinction crisis escalates ). One of these subplots centers on a newsvendor in New York City. A boy sitting close by is reading a pirate comic book, and as the story moves forward, various panels and pieces of text from this comic interposed with the real storyline. In this passage of WatchmenMoore and Gibbons utilize the gritty allegory of the Sea Captain in the Black Freighter to foreshadow the ending of the graphic noveland to give the reader more insight to the question raised throughout the entire story: Who watches the Watchmen? How many innocent civilians can one harm without becoming the very monster being fought against? In comparison the 2013 baseball World Series game 6 (when the Red Sox won the series) had 19.2 worldwide viewers. The World Series overall has had lower television rating compared to the past, but soccer can hardly be considered the reason for that. Baseballhas been voted America s 2nd favorite sport (behind football) and soccer was voted America s 4th favorite sport. Therefore, baseball is better and more popular than soccer. I already explained that I would rather pay to watch baseball than to watch soccer for free, but another reason I think that is because soccer is a new sport to America since the MLS was only founded in 1993, so that means more people have been growing up watching baseball teams from their area instead of soccer teams and that means their kids are watching baseball and I think it will take a few generations just to shake that off. It is hard to find a reason why baseball would be less of a popular sport than soccer, (I bet some people could come up with some reasons) but I think overall you can t beat most of the facts. Then the same termite was placed on the pencil path, and stayed for a total of zero seconds. A Dystopian Future in Brave New World Essay examples Brave New World is a remarkable journey into the future wherein mankind is dehumanized by the progress and misuse of technology to the point where society is a laboratory produced race of beings who are clones devoid of identity only able to worship the three things they have been preconditioned to love: Henry Ford, their idol; Soma, a wonder drug; and sex (Dusterhoof, Guynn, Patterson, Shaw, Wroten and Yuhasz 1). The misuse of perfected technologies, especially those allowing the manipulation of the human brain and genes, have created a pleasure seeking world where there is no such thingas spiritual experience, just pleasuresof the flesh. Regardless of the progress of technology, the real issue is not the capabilities and potential uses of new sciences. The real issue, as it is in Brave New World, is that there will always exist those who use new technologies for personal gain, evil pursuits and as an attempt to maintain power and control (like the State does in Brave New World). The ideal concept may be a state of stability that it unchanging, but this comes from our own internal dichotomy between a need for stability and the conflict with the instability of being real. No state has ever achieved such a stable condition in the history of mankind anyway, Historically, no actual political state has ever achieved stability and only a very few have approximated it...Even so this is the aim for which all politicians and political states plan (Firchow 85). Therefore, even though we have the power to splice and locate genes that will modify human characteristics and behavior (like manipulating a baby s sex or sexuality), who would choose to allow this power in only the hands of a few, powerful interests? What would stop powerful white monied interests from trying to rid society of supposed undesirables like blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals or even women? Death affects all of us, however, in reality, no one talks about it. In the final phase of life, people should have the right to decide if they want to die from the hands of a doctor. Euthanasia is a far quieter alternative of leaving the world than drastic suicidefor incurable diseases and inhuman sufferers. The doctor should be able to comply with a reasoned request of a patient without being sued in the future. To illustrate, 86 percent of public support euthanasia for the terminally ill or on life support ( Euthanasia Statistics ). Euthanasia should be legalized through the whole world because people should be able to decide whether they want to live or die. The pathophysiology of alcoholism begins after alcohol the ingestion of alcohol. It is absorbed and unaltered through the stomach and intestines. Next it is distributed throughout the body through the blood and absorbed by all tissues and fluids (Huether, 2012, p. 72). Furthermore, in the liver the alcohol blood content is metabolized into acetaldehyde by the enzymes process of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), the microsomal ethanol oxidizing system (MEOS), and catalase (Huether McCance, 2012). Next, the metabolizing effects the central nervous system (CNS) and exhibits a depressant action. It is first expressed in the subcortical structures of the brain. This has an effect of disorientation of motor skills and intellect. With an increase in blood alcohol concentration, the medullary centers become depressed and as a result affects respiration (Huether McCance, 2012). In addition, the effects of alcoholism encourage hepatic and gastric changes. The hepatic effect is caused by acetaldehyde, in which, induces inflammation, fatty deposits and enlargement of the liver (Huether McCance, 2012). 2.Discuss the concept of tolerance to alcohol and the diagnostic criteria for alcohol/substance abuse. Geothermal Energy is the Solution to the Energy Crisis Essay Geothermal Energy: A Solution to the Energy Crisis Abstract So far, scientists have not found a successful substitute for fossil fuels that can handle both the large demand for energy and solve the global warming problem. I propose that geothermal energy is a clean, widely available, and renewable alternative to the usage of fossil fuels. In this paper, I will explain how use of geothermal resources can be energy efficient, environmentally clean, and cost effective. I believe that the US government should increase funding for geothermal energy research. This may be the solution to our present energy crisis and global warming. Fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas) take up about 80 % of total energy consumed. Fossil fuels cause pollution and global warming yet we continue to use them. Our demand for fossil fuels has become so great that according to current projections, Earth s reserves will be depleted within the next 200 years. But we do not actually have 200 years to wait. Our run away consumption of fossil fuel not only endangers our ability to meet our future energy needs but also the environment. Fossil fuels cause significant pollution and global warming. This in turn compromises wildlife habitats and can even lead to extinction of animal and plant species. By looking at new sources such as geothermal energy, we can move towards a source that is not extremely harmful and yet still effective. Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is heat energy that is stored underneath Earth s surface. It is mainly found at volcanoes, hot springs, or geysers. Heat stored in the hot water and steam found at these locations is captured and can be used to heat buildings or generate electricity. This energy source is renewable because heat from the earth is continuously produced. To obtain energy, you must either use hot water or steam from the source. The most common way of capturing the energy from geothermal sources is to tap into naturally occurring hydrothermal convection systems where cooler water seeps into Earth s crust, is heated up, and then rises to the ... • 24. Global Finite Element Matrix Construction Based on a... Introduction Many physical phenomena in stationary condition such as electrical and magnetic potential, heat conduction, fluid flow and elastic problems in static condition can be described by elliptic partial differential equations (EPDE). The EPDE does not involve a time variable, and so describes the steady state of problems. A linear EPDE has the general form as presented in Eq. (1), where a,b,c are coefficient functions, the term f is a source (excitation) function and u is the unknown variable. All of this function can vary spatially (x,y,z). ∇(c∙∇u)+b∙∇u+au=f(1) EPDE can be solved exactly by mathematical procedures like Fourier series [1]. However, the classical solution frequently no exists and for those problems where is possible the use of these analytical methods, many simplifications are done [2]. Consequently, several numerical methods have been developed to efficiently solve EPDE such as the finite element method (FEM), finite difference and others. The FEM have several advantages over other methods. The main advantage is that it is particularly effective for problems with complicated geometry using unstructured meshes [2]. One way to get a suitable framework for solving EPDEs by using FEM is formulate them as variational problems also called weak solution. The variacional formulation of an EPDE is a mathematical treating for converting the strong formulation to a weak formulation, which permits the approximation in elements or subdomains, and the EPDE ... Robert Walton in Frankenstein is similar to the Wedding Guest from Rime of the Ancient Mariner, with Victor Frankenstein playing the role of the mariner. This quote shows The Mariner s outlook on nature in the beginning of the poem. The Mariner refers to the creatures of the sea as slimy things, which obviously has a negative connotation. However, once Coleridge teaches his character the lesson of the inherent beauty in nature, the Mariner learns that all creatures are beautiful. In Shelley s piece, which also has this theme, it seems that Frankenstein really never learns this lesson, while the creature does seem to grasp this concept. I beheld those I loved spend vain sorrow upon the graves of William and Justine, the first hapless victims to my unhallowed arts (Shelley 79). This quote shows Shelley s theme of how devastating the consequences can be for one single unthinking act. Obviously, Victor s single unthinking act was his creation of the creature. When he made this creature, there is no way that he thought he would kill two of his closest loved ones, and later kill more. However, it happened and Shelley is showing us how devastating the effects can be. Similarly, in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Mariner also suffers for a single, unthinking act. There has been a snowball effect of allegations as more recent incidents have been mentioned that encourage victims of earlier incidents to come forward. • 40. Essay on The Effects of Parenting Styles on Child Outcome There is no way in which parents can evade having a determining effect upon their children s personality, character, and competence (Baumrind, 1978). It is amazing that children who are raised in completely different environments can go on to possess similar characteristics later in life. But why is this the case? The functions that parents perform greatly influence how children develop. A tremendous amount of research has been done on the effects of parenting styles since 1966 when Diana Baumrind first published her three prototypes of parenting styles, but many parents fail to understand the power they possess in shaping the future lives of their children and the need for a responsible strategy regarding the rearing of their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although most indicative of Western society, these parenting styles have been validated in other countries as well, including Australia, China, and Russia (Hart, et al., 1998; Leung et al., 1998). A large amount of literature published before the 1990s focused on the effects of parenting styles on the outcomes of children, establishing the benefits of the authoritative style as opposed to the negative outcomes generated by the authoritarian and permissive approaches (Demo Cox, 2000). In essence, the authoritative style is a strategy that sets reasonable rules and guidelines that are in the best interests of the child. These rules supply structure while still allowing the child to explore and begin the process of learning what behaviors are acceptable. The authoritative approach to parenting is considered to be the most balanced style. In this category, children are expected to maintain maturity and respect for the rules and regulations that are set in place. An open dialogue between the parent and the child is encouraged. This allows children to feel independent. Any punishment is reasonable and typically explained to the child so that they understand what it is that they did wrong and why they were punished. This approach to parenting yields many benefits for the child. Children who are products of this approach generally see higher academic achievement during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I feel that when we can combine our passions into a career that also has a positive impact on humanity, we have found our purpose. I am not going to tell you that it has always been my dream to become an occupational therapist. For most of my school years, I did not know what profession I wanted to pursue. I did know, however, that I desired to work in healthcare because of my personal experience with my family s injuries/diseases, as well as my interests in how the body functions and heals. For a while, I was adjudicating between becoming an occupational therapist or a physical therapist because the two professions are quite similar. • 46. Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies By Seth Holmes When thinking of Mexican American immigrants what comes to mind? The American public consistently listens to the media telling stories of how these people cross the border illegally, which is deemed as a crime. Immigrants are portrayed just as stealing American jobs and benefiting from government programs such as welfare. Countless people think it was a voluntary action for them to come to the United State, therefore whatever comes their way is what they deserve regardless if it is health problems, racism or low paying jobs. However, what most of American people don t realize is that the majority of Mexican migrants are forced to migrate to the United State in order to survive. They constantly risk their lives to cross a dangerous border in order to find the jobs that the American people don t want to endure. In the book called Fresh Fruit, Broken Bodies , the author, Seth Holmes focuses on the lives of an indigenous Mexican group called the Triquis. Throughout the book, he focuses on the journey of the group from their hometown of Oaxaca to farms in California and Washington. The book also emphasizes how racism and health problems of migrant workers have become invisible to the American people. It is commonly seen that their personal damage such as health problems and placement on the social hierarchy system is only to be blamed on their sole decision to come to a country where they are considered illegal. The most prime example of the Gullah tale in the text is in the foreword section of the novel. Morrison tells a story of a story where a man named Solomon escapes slavery while at the same time abandoning his family. This allusion is a connection to the Gullah stories of the slaves who would fly back to Africa to free themselves. The allusion appears throughout the rest of the novel. For instance, in the first chapter, an insurance agent by the name of Robert Smith announced that he would fly off the roof of Mercy, a local hospital, to the other side of Lake Superior. I will take off from Mercy and fly away on my own wings, he said ( Song of Solomon 3). In The Great Gatsby dissatisfaction is associated with lack of fulfillment in Dreams. In Benjamin Button dissatisfaction is surrounded by Benjamin s curious case of aging in reverse. Through these two pieces of writing by Fitzgerald there are a lot of unhappy relationships. With bad relationships come trends such as abusive traits from typically one party, whether it be emotionally or physically. In The Great Gatsby Tom Buchanan is a cruel man who is dominant and aggressive with a strong physique. With these attributes he is a prime candidate for an abusive lover. He abuses women because he is a man who craves power. He is not getting the gratification of power out of his relationship with Daisy and in his day to day life so he harms the ones close to him as seen with Daisy s finger and later on in the novel when breaking Myrtle s nose. With this easy accessibility there is becoming less and less need for buyers to attend shows and instead they are able to choose their key pieces right from their own offices. Tungate also recognizes that private pre collection gatherings in showrooms are taking place before the actual show.
