Maria Montessori and Environment
Concentration is the key that opens up the child s latent treasures within him. As the scattered
elements if his personality comes together, order begins to take the place of disorder, and the work of
self construction, which had been interrupted, is now taken up again, as nature has intended all along.
E.M Standing, Maria Montessori: her life and work, pg 174
Learning, by itself, cannot happen without concentration. Whether we are learning to tie our shoes,
write our name, wash a car or solve complex algebraic equations, there is intense concentration
specific to the task at hand. Dr. Maria Montessori understood the power of concentration, and her
methodology is designed to nurture this power. Concentration in infants is a fragile ... Show more

The sensitive periods are triggered due to an unconscious will power/force called Horme, which
pushes the child to fulfill his divine urge. The sensitive periods are critical to the child s self
development. The child passes through six significant sensitive periods those for Sensitivity to order;
learning through five senses; sensitivity to small objects; sensitivity to co ordination of movement;
language and social aspect of life. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the child is born with pre
determined psychic pattern or The eight Law s of Natural Development which are laid down before
birth i.e. Law of work; when children were exposed to the material in the prepared environment
become calm and peaceful and their destructive behaviors disappear. Thus, Montessori concluded that
some great need of the child must have been met through this activity of concentration. Law of
Independence, wherein the child uses his independence to listen to his own inner guide for actions that
can be useful for him. We must keep children independent by providing them enough opportunities to
work with materials. Power of attention, to further enhance and cultivate the power of attention we
engage the child into various Montessori activities thereby developing the ability to concentrate and
building personality. After internal coordination is established through the child s ability for prolonged
attention and concentration, the Development of Will takes place, where in

Examples Of Forgiveness In The Glass Castle
Jeannette Walls, Shows in the book The Glass Castle that there are a lot of situations that happen in
life where people make countless mistakes, but it is very important to forgive her father and her
mother for many mistakes. She has to cope with many obstacles without her parent s help. In the
author s memoir, we become attracted with Jeannette constant struggle between protecting her family
and the pleasure that her family is based on the same hopes and senseless falsehood with her
unbelievable storytelling method. The feelings of forgiveness hold the Walls family together. Jeanette

Her dad carried her away from the hospital without payment, and then her mom permitted her to cook
again, moreover she said, Getting right back into the saddle ( Glass Castle 47). Jeanette was not angry
at such young age and soon the family had to pack their belongings into bags and do the skedaddle as
her parents always said. The parents were fleeing from bill collectors. Although Jeanette s father was
an alcoholic, he could get work almost anywhere, often in small towns. The family was moving
because of these things, she never complained when they did not have enough food. Jeanette always
forgave her parents, she understood what they were going through. Jeanette represents Rex as a
reasonable and loving father through Christmas time during which he gave the presents stars to them.
She describes the memory with admiration and love towards her father. Although Jeanette says we had
no money at all her family showed no regret, she instead showed how they absolutely admire him, by
capitalizing Dad . Rex has an ability to brave the cold times because the cold never bothered him as he
said ( Glass Castle 39). Jeanette holds onto her father when other people ignore him because he makes
her feel unique, as it gives her one of the most important moments of her life. It s clearly obvious that
Jeanette admiration is growing as she continues to describe the experience in positive terms. The final

Effects of Temperature, pH, Enzyme Concentration, and Substrate Concentration on Enzymatic
Activity
INTRODUCTION
Enzymes, proteins that act as catalysts, are the most important type of protein[1]. Catalysts speed up
chemical reactions and can go without being used up or changed [3] Without enzymes, the
biochemical reactions that take place will react too slowly to keep up with the metabolic needs and the
life functions of organisms. Catecholase is a reaction between oxygen and catechol [2]. In the
presence of oxygen, the removal of two hydrogen atoms oxidizes the compound catechol, as a result
of the formation of water [2]. Oxygen is reduced by the addition of two hydrogen atoms, which also
forms water, after catechol is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hypothesis is as the substrate concentration has an increase so will the reaction of velocity if the
amount of enzyme is kept constant.
MATERIALS AND METHODS To study the effects of temperature, pH, enzyme concentration, and
substrate concentration there were certain steps that were followed in order to conduct this
experiment. Each factor had a separate procedure to follow to find how each had a different effect on
the enzyme.
To find the effect of temperature on the activity of an enzyme, the experiment deals with the steps as
follows. First, 3 mL if pH 7 phosphate buffer was used to fill three different test tubes that were
labeled 10, 24, and 50. These three test tubes were set in three different temperature settings. The first
test tube was placed in an ice water bath for ten minutes until it reached a temperature of 2° C or less.
The second tube s temperature setting was at room temperature until a temperature of 21°C was
reached. The third tube was placed in a beaker of warm water until the contents of the beaker reached
a temperature setting of 60° C. There were four more test tubes that were included in the procedure.
Two of the test tubes contained potato juice were one was put in ice and the other was placed in warm
water. The other two test tubes contained catechol. One test tube was put in ice and the other in warm
water. After

Moby Dick Rhetorical Analysis
Beware the Charismatic Leader Stories often crop up in the news about people following some crazy
leader, usually concerning groups like cults, fanatics, or even fan bases that appear to blindly shadow
and support their idol or superior. A casual observer will most likely look down on these groups,
assuming that they could never be swayed like those people; but can one really resist so charismatic a
leader? History has proven that the right person with a gift for persuasion can convince anyone to do
something against their normal values. In Herman Melville s novel Moby Dick, monomaniac Captain
Ahab cajoles the crew of the Pequod into supporting his mission to through his incredible powers of
persuasion. Obsessed with Moby Dick, a white sperm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He reminds the sailors of their promise, stating, All your oaths to hunt the White Whale are as binding
as mine; and heart, soul, and body, lungs and life, old Ahab is bound (522). This intense statement
calls on the honor of the men, prompting their memories of the night when they swore to assist Ahab
on his hunt. He uses hyperbole in this statement to emphasize the seriousness of their pledge; he
claims that his entire being binds him to this course, when truly only insanity and the need for revenge
drives him, but the sailors better understand the gravity of their journey on the Pequod. Ahab
continues: And that ye may know to what tune this heart beats; look ye here; thus I blow out the last
fear! And with one blast of his breath he extinguished the flame (522). The corposants appear to
symbolize the escalating fear of the sailors throughout the chapter the more scared the sailors, the
brighter the flame. Ahab capitalizes on that symbolism and extinguishes the fear of the sailors by
blowing out the corposant. Thus Ahab brings the sailors down from the height of their terror and
reminds them of their binding oath at the beginning of the

Why Teenagers Should Start Later Essay
Imagine this, it s 10:30 p.m. and you are walking down the street when a cop approaches you. The
next thing you know you re in big trouble for being on the streets after 10:00 p.m. Don t like the sound
of that do you? My city council is considering a curfew that would make it illegal for teenagers to be
out on the streets after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and after midnight on weekends. I disagree with this
consideration because teenagers may have to work late, they could be in danger, or there could be an
emergency.
First of all, some teenagers end up working late at night and can t help that. Working night shift causes
teenagers to get home late. Most teenagers don t have a car, so they walk to and from work. If there is
a curfew it will get the

The Last Report On The Miracles By Louise Erdrich Summary
Louise Erdrich Louise Erdrich was born on June 7, 1954 in Little Falls, Minnesota. She grew up in
Wahpeton North Dakota near Turtle Mountain reservation, where her grandfather Pat Tourneau was a
Tribal chairman. Erdrich uses characters not only to demonstrate the experiences of Native Americans,
but also the heartache and pain she has gone through in her life. Erdrich s family was far from normal,
they faced many obstacles, but unfortunately they were not able to overcome them. In 1981 she
married Michael Dorris, a professor of anthropology and head of the Native American studies program
at Dartmouth (Andrews, McCarthy). Louise met Michael upon her return to Dartmouth as a writer.

Hauled halfway across Minnesota from Little Rock brickwoods pious drivers, they still held the
peculiar sulfurous moth gold of the clay outside the town (Erdrich). This setting was a one of many
that Erdrich remembered from Minnesota. At the beginning of the book The Last Report on the
Miracles at Little No Horse Erdrich introduces the readers to one of many examples of alcoholism.
Then six grasshopper years occurred during which even the handles on the hoes and rakes were eaten
and a U.S. cavalry soldier, too , partially devoured while he lay drunk in the insects path (Erdrich).
Erdrich uses a character in her book that seems to be in pain due to her circumstances. It was as
though her soul were neatly removed by a drinking straw and siphoned into the green pool of quiet
that lay beneath the rippling cascade of notes (Erdrich). This character also seems resolute to use
music as a way to cope with her emotions, just as Louise uses writing as a way to share her stories and
escape the reality of life sometimes. At the piano keyboard, absorbed into the notes that rose beneath
her hands, she existed in her essence (Erdrich). The character felt as though she meant something
while playing the piano. Even when things were going wrong her escape was

The Effects Of Workplace Violence On The Workplace
According to The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health workplace violence is
described as any physical assault, threatening behavior or verbal abuse that takes place in the
workplace. Violence includes all behaviors ranging in aggressiveness from verbal harassment to
murder. Currently there is no law that requires protection for violence which occurs in the workplace.
However some states throughout the country has reached out to legislation an established prevention
programs. As of today, in 30 states (Florida not being one of them) if found guilty of workplace
violence, employees and patients can be charged with a felony and face increased penalties.
Workplace violence is a highly serious occupational risk, both domestically and globally. Violence in
the workplace accounts for nearly nine hundred deaths and almost two million nonlife threatening
assaults each year. The numbers are expected to be higher. But over the years facilities and nurses
have failed to report occupational assaults. Many nurses believe violence is a part of the job. However,
violence isn t part of a nurses the job description. Workplace violence doesn t always have to be
physical. It varies from offensive behavior, verbal, emotional, physical and unfortunately murder.
Evidence shows, healthcare and social workers are three times more likely to experience violence than
any other professionals. Many nurses may practice in a more vulnerable setting, such as the
emergency room,

The Enforcement Of Cyber Security Standards
There is a new threat to the world, cyberspace. New technologies are being developed daily that
threaten secure organizations. Attackers are able to take advantage of any vulnerability that they can
find no matter the geological location. This threat poses risks to the economy, militaries, and
governments around the world. The U.S. is at the forefront of the defense of cyber security, but with
the endless number of cyber terrorists, the U.S. defense is not enough. Nations need to come together
to provide a standard for cyber security that is able to be enforced throughout the world. The many
different organizations provide many avenues of approach for various attackers to take advantage of
the vulnerabilities in cyber defense. The only way to prevent these attacks is for the U.S. and its
international partners to develop a strategy for global cyber security. Actions are currently being taken
by many of the U.S. s allies, yet there is still much work to be done. The enforcement of cyber
security standards must take place in all government organizations, and similar standards should be
followed by civilian corporations. This new cyber warfare must be regulated and controlled just like
any other battlespace.
The communication network of both military and civilian organizations has changed greatly in the last
thirty years. Just like anything else, with these new advantages in communication systems, there are
also new advantages for the enemy to exploit. Due to the increase in

Speech On Becoming An Adult
When asked the question When do you become an adult? many people would give an age but in
reality the answer isn t that easy. To me adulthood is when you are able and willing to accept
responsibility. If you cannot or will not be responsible, you have no right calling yourself an adult.
What does make you a grown up? Is it moving out of the house? Hitting a certain age? Having a
relationship? Getting a job? How is it that we can do. those things, that we consider to be adult , but
we still feel like kids? Or that we feel like grown ups, we re certainly old enough, but we haven t.
seemed to have accomplished any of those things grown ups have done? People never seem to quite
understand the meaning of being an adult. It has always seemed to me that age is irrelevant. You can
be 12 and understand things better than a 30 year old or you can be 40, have two PhD s and still

My Experience In High School
Before graduating elementary and jumping into middle school my homeroom adviser always advises
us to try and enter the school program in this particular high school. The thing is to enter the program
you need to take an entrance exam and get at least 85% on it. The first week of May 2012 my mom
and I went to my elementary school to collect my transcripts that I needed to enroll for grade 7. At that
moment and for the last time I saw my grade 6 teachers. Upon getting my transcripts I can hear my
grade six teachers asking my mom if I will take the entrance exam.
Two weeks later after getting my transcripts, my mother and I went to the high school. The school was
crowded, it was very foreign to me, as I viewed it as I am a small shack in a city full of skyscrapers.
Before enrolling, we talked about trying to take the entrance exam for the program the high school
offers, I agreed. There is no harm in trying anyway, so I will try to give my best just to pass that exam.
Then the day of the entrance exam came. I expected that you can seat wherever you want during the
exam but to my dismay that wasn t the case. The spectators arrange us alphabetically, so being my last
name starts with an A, I was always the first one or if I am lucky the second one to be called. The
spectators were calling our last names one by one, boys were the first one to be called. After all the
boys were called, I got nervous as it is the girls turn to be called. I was called third, and I was placed
in the room where the boys are taking the exam. Along with the two girls that I don t know and who is
sitting in the far front.
During the duration of the exam, I can hear paper shuffling repeatedly. I looked at where the noise was
coming from and lucky enough it was the guy who is sitting beside me. I thought that I can just say a
few words and tell him to stop flipping his paper but I failed, as on the other hand, he thought I am
going to engage in a conversation with him. He began asking me what school I came from, why am I
so pale and that s even questionable because I m not pale, etc. At first, I ignored him hoping that he
will stop talking, he didn t.
Results came, I was very glad that I passed the exam at the same time nervous and I don t

The Above Quote, States To Show The Relationship Between

Power in the simplest term possible can be the process of being in control; that is being in control of
situations and taking charge. Power can also be defined as the process of an individual having control
over another individual or groups of individuals. According to Hays (2002), four important things
should be noted when defining power, the include; 1) Power can be understood with effects 2) Power
has its attributes to an individual s behaviour. 3) Power is included with control, domination. 4) Power
can be unproductive in some cases; this is because some gain will others don t; that is to say one
individual may have more power that another. Furthermore, this goes to show how power has various
meaning, its effects of ones action on another, its relations with other individuals in terms of behaviour
and power over people in countries or states. Also, another definition of power can be seen according
to Boulding view; Boulding (1990) defines Power as a the essence of potential for change. This
change in itself being to achieve a common goal for groups of individuals, political parties, states,
nations and countries. In addition, Colin Hays (2002) describes Terence Ball s definition of power as
one of the most important concept which organises political theory. This definition still shows the
interrelation of power and politics and how each relays on the other. Finally, According to Nye (2011),
power can be defined in various ways by peoples choices which

Indian Women s Indian Association Essay
India
Unlike the British and American women, Indian women did not face great difficulty in securing
franchise. Gandhiji stressed on the need for active participation of the masses during the freedom
movement, including women. He encouraged total participation of women resulting in the emergence
of a large number of women freedom fighters. Annie Besant, Madame Cama and Sarojini Naidu
formed the Women s Indian Association. But, women still constitute a mere 10% of the legislators in
the Parliament and State Assemblies. According to the 1955 International Parliamentary Union
Survey, women hold just 11.7% of all seats in Parliament around the world. Success at the Panchayat
level based on reservations for women convinced women s organizations that it is the correct time to
extend these reservations to the highest levels.

Victor Frankenstein: Victor Frankenstein, is the protagonist who describes his life to Robert Walton. In

This leads to Justine being accused for the murder and is forced to death by the government. I believe
Mary Shelley intends the reader to dislike Victor because of the wrongful actions he takes. Firstly,
when Victor creates the monster, he becomes scared and terrified due to the monster s physical
appearance as result he abandoned it. I noticed that Victor essentially judged the monster by it s looks
rather than the monster s personality. Alongside the other unfair and uneducated thoughts, the author
convinced me that Victor Frankenstein is a hated character.
The Monster: The monster is another main character in the novel as he his creator and the society
judge him based on his physical appearance. The monster shares similar personality traits that I like
and dislike about Victor. I liked that the monster is helpful and friendly to others especially the De
Lacy family. He used to steal their food however he realized that the family faces poverty and decides
to condense their adversity. He beings the father wood during the night and leave it in front of the
door. I also like the fact that he develops his knowledge based on human s actions and words. For
example, he learns the names of each member apart of De Lacy family; Felix and Agatha. He shows
interest to improve his intelligence by reading books and through the conversations between the De
Lacy family. I like his fortitude to confront his creator about his humanity since his creator ran away
from him. Furthermore, I

These mugs contain woman breast as the mug holder. I also saw shot glasses of a woman preforming
oral sex to a man. After reading this article I realized this kind of sexual art has been going on decades
ago. Weismantle points out that in different cultures vaginal penetration was not thought of as having
anything to do with reproduction. The man and woman are not always the only actors shown. I chose
this quote because I feel like sex should be private and not done in front of a child like how

Statement of Purpose to Attend a University
I have lived in San Antonio, Texas my entire life. Most of my family, from my mother s side, still lives
here, too. Only two of my cousins have ventured outside of Texas. Everyone else either lives in San
Antonio or surrounding cities. One of my cousins, who still lives in Texas, is attending Texas State
University in San Marcos. He and I are the only two males from my mother s family who have been to
college, so we are each proud of the other, and we know that our family is proud of us. Attending
college is a serious pursuit. For years I struggled with attending college. Happily, having experienced
a few rough semesters, I now see the overall college picture. I had a successful and satisfying six
months of college in 2013. My ambition is to continue working diligently to earn a college degree
within the next two years. I was a talented musician during my first twelve years of school. My
musical skills enabled me to learn violin, piano, and my all time favorite, percussion. I was a leader in
the high school band from being in charge of the drum line, earning first division ratings in every UIL
solo event I entered, and being elected band president. My vision was to become a successful
contemporary drummer. I performed with various local bands, recorded several albums, took a few
tours across the country, and sought my musical future. However, I learned that although I loved and
enjoyed playing music, it was a difficult avenue to a prosperous career which

Similarities Between The Birth Mark And Lulasus Nathurae
In The Birth Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne and in Margaret Atwood s Lusus Naturae , the theme of
mortality and the theme of man vs. society are very apparent. Characters in both stories are ostracized
by their family members because of their natural appearance. In The Birth Mark, Aylmer, views his
wife Georgiana s birthmark as a immense flaw in her beauty. He sees it as human imperfection and he
tries to remove it and lower her self esteem. In Lusus Naturae , the protagonist in the story (who is
coincidently never named) is part of a family who does not accept her because of how her physical
appearance looks like. The family s interpretation of the horrible ugly characters is what creates the
struggle for the characters. Both stories suggest that degrading someone because of their physical
appearance is unethical because most of the time they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aylmer s craving to make his wife Georgiana perfect is destined to fail because perfection cannot be
found on earth and only found in heaven. Aylmer obsesses about the birthmark that is on his wife for
an extensive time that it actually starts to inconvenience him. For Aylmer, it symbolizes mortality and
sin and comes to mast over Georgiana s beauty in his cluttered mind. Consequently, her tiny
imperfection, which is only a birth mark, is all he can see and is so prominent to him. The desire for
perfection not only kills Georgiana inside and out, but it also ruins her husband. Aylmer starts to break
down because his desire to create the ideal woman becomes such a fixation that it prevents him from
seeing all the good his wife has to over him and the world. Nevertheless, Georgiana says that she will
risk her life for him and have the birthmark erased. Aylmer is very confident about it but ends up

The Pennsylvania Principals Association, 122 Valley Road, Summerdale, PA, is a non profit volunteer
organization serving all principals, assistant principals and other educational leaders across the
commonwealth. Starting in 1936, the association functioned as two separate entities, the Pennsylvania
Association of Elementary School Principals and the Pennsylvania Association of Secondary School
Principals (Thompson, 2014). In 2000, representatives from both associations met to discuss the
possibility of joining the two into one organization to increase efficiency in day to day operations. In
July of 2003, the merging of both associations took effect as well as operations under their new name,
the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals (PAESSP). Most
recently, the association changed its name to the Pennsylvania Principals Association in September of

Direct Democracy Vs Representative Democracy Essay
Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy
The term Democracy is derived from two Greek words, demos, meaning people, and kratos, meaning
rule. These two words form the word democracy which means rule by the people. Aristotle, and other
ancient Greek political philosophers, used the phrase, `the governors are to be the governed , or as we
have come to know it, `rule and be ruled in turn .
The two major types of democracy are Representative Democracy and Direct
Democracy. Clearly the arguments for and against each form of democracy are plentiful. However, it
is my belief that theoretically, Direct Democracy is the superior form of political rule. Due to
problems with in the direct democratic system, its use as a practical ... Show more content on

It is not even thinkable that all citizens will agree on what good is. Rousseau recognized this and
accepted a term of majority rule. Those who voted against a policy which is found to be the best for
the general, must have been thinking of personal gains, rather than the gains of the entire society.
The feature which distinguishes direct democracy from other forms of government is the idea of
agreement and the key to agreement is discussion. It is impossible to reach an agreement without
discussion, because it is not right to think that everybody will have the same opinion on all matters.
But, it is very possible, that through discussion an agreement could be reached by all members.
Representation, on the other hand allows a select few to make decisions in their own best interest,
which is not necessarily the best interest of the society.
However, direct democracy is not the perfect method to produce a union of the community. For a
direct democracy to work, face to face communication between all members of the community is
needed. The only way this is possible is to meet in large groups. Due to the fear of high tension, many
citizens
will not participate in these large group meeting. So in order for these fearful people to voice their
opinions they must get together in smaller, less tensions groups, where they are not as timid to say as
they wish to see happen.
A direct democracy can only work in a small group, so as a form of government for an

Describe The Differences Between Paul And Robinson s Life
The mill factories of the early 19th century are quite different from what we know and perceive to be
factory work today. One might be surprised initially that a girl would want to go to the mills given the
current perception of them, but in this time the mills were quite attractive initially for many women.
Mary Paul initially tried to find work as a domestic for a farming family but after that failed, she
moved to the mills in Lowell looking for work (Dublin 121). Most women in the early 19th century
didn t have opportunities to earn and income. Lowell was such a unique place at this time as it
provided women work for money and a chance to move of their own accord to somewhere new. At

Robinson worked when the mills were just opening and not many were around. The Erie Canal was
built in 1925, which greeting increased the speed of transportation from the Great Lakes to New York,
causing an influx of of people (Foner 329). Many new factories sprung up around it as there was easy
water access to the ports. Faster transportation from canals and railroads caused an increase in the area
factories could supply people with manufactured goods. Newly settled western areas became states
and opened up a market for more people needing goods (Foner 332 3).This created a second hub for
factories away from Boston that was competing to sell their goods. The area of where they sold their
products began to overlap, creating a need to produce faster and cheaper. The Embargo of 1807 that
helped spur the factories initially continued to contribute to the growth of new factories into the 1950 s
(Foner 340). Even within Lowell other factories began to pop up to account for increased demand in
manufactured goods, as mentioned by Mary Paul. The companies began to cut wages to compete

The Necessity At The Heart Of Every Command
The necessity to communicate is at the heart of every command. General Gordon Sullivan put this in
perspective best when he explained: Force XXI will leverage the capabilities of the latest technologies
to optimize the skill and courage of our soldiers. We will integrate information age technology with
our tactical units. We will redesign units, built around people and new technologies, to enhance their
agility, versatility and lethality. Combatant commanders who rely upon their communication channels
are not able to effectively move vital elements within a combat theatre without the ability to move
information. As the country continues to engage combatants in countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan,
and Syria, the need to effectively communicate has become ever increasing. Moreover, the
requirement to share data within and amongst theaters is even more imperative as we link actors to
one another well beyond the borders in which we are currently engaged. Program Manager WIN T
(Warrior Information Network Tactical) provides commanders with the ability to move data across the
world and receive real time directions from commanders located within the Continental United States
through internet access. Soldiers, to include commanders are now able to further untether themselves
from their command post and communicate both on the move or at the halt, further maximizing their
time on the ground. However, progressing to such a point has taken years to accomplish. The

Issues At Junk Van
The first year of 1 800 JUNK Van s existence saw success due to the virtual business model that
Marcus Kingo implemented. However, with the rapid growth of the business and future plans, Kingo
needs to address some serious operational issues going forward. To do this, he must thoroughly
analyze his current processes and determine both the current and future needs of the business. Once
this is complete, Kingo can be better prepared to choose the most appropriate information technology
solution that will provide the greatest value to 1 800 JUNK Van.
Process Issues at Junk Van
There are numerous problems with the Junk Van s current process. Inefficiencies exist in the system
that are preventing the business from maximizing value, such as drivers having to sometimes go back
to the customer s location in order to collect money. Data consolidation in many areas of the process is
also wasting valuable resources that could be better focused elsewhere. This and other manual
procedures are partly responsible for mistakes being made and errors occurring. Having one live
database copy is impractical and ineffective, especially considering the company s virtual business
model. Changes are bound to arise and there needs to be a centralized place where all team members
can go to make updates and look up relevant information in real time. Emailing information back and
forth among several people makes it easy for some of that information to get lost in the mix. Kingo

The brain is divided into two separate bisections, the left and right hemisphere, children need both
sides of the brain innervated in order to learn properly. The left hemisphere is responsible for
perceiving information more logically and analytically, it is the side that processes things math,
science, and writing. Whilst the right hemisphere of the brain is responsible for more imaginative
creative thinking, the importance of developing both segments of the brain is not something that

Notes On The Trade System
Timotius Ferdinand
Mini Case 1
FIN 536.03
November 10th, 2016
1.
The carry trade is a system to gain profit by borrowing money using low interest rate currency and
then investing it with another currency of high interest rate. Carry trade is a quick and easy way to get
profit. Investors would benefit from the failure of Uncovered Interest Rate Parity (UIRP). According
to Bloomberg, the carry trade is the easy money , it is an easy way to get profit without any hassle or
hard work.
Money managers can easily get profit by utilizing the failure of UIRP. The arbitrage techniques work
for the investors because the UIRP does not hold. The uncovered interest rate parity is a parity
condition stating that the difference between interest rates from any currency should be equal. But in
the real world, the UIRP does not hold, this is what attract investors to do arbitrage between
currencies. Previously, people pair Australian Dollar with Japanese Yen, but the instability of these
both currencies, force money managers to change their funding and target currency, which is why
people start to carry trade Indian Rupees and Euros.
2.
Developed countries tend to have low or negative interest rates. The main reason for low interest rates
in the developed countries is to stimulate economic growth. European Central Bank (ECB) is an
institution that regulates the interest rates in the Euro zone. Negative or low interest rate was created
to help the slow or low economic growth. In contrast,

The Collapse Of Complex Societies
The word collapse has a number of connotations associated with it. Some view it exclusively the
degradation of societies of the highest order. Others see it as the complete disintegration of economic
prospects and commerce. Some even think of it political ruin with the demise of states and ruling
factions that maintain order. The most general definition for collapse can includes elements from these
three viewpoints. American anthropologist and historian Joseph A. Tainter is best known for his
writings on societal collapses. In 1988 he published his most widely recognized work, The Collapse of

Each of these seemingly invincible dynasties all went on to eventually collapse for a myriad of
reasons. The Western Roman Empire was marked by its vast territorial supremacy, as it conquering its
neighbors to absorb their energy surpluses whether in agricultural outputs, mineral resources, or
human capital. With the rapid growth of the Empire, the cost of maintaining order, production, and
other logistical elements grew as well. This cost grew to the point there simply weren t enough
resources to defend against invasion especially when disgruntled peasants welcomed the removal of
Roman control. The Maya empire failed due to the burdens of competitive warfare between the
various city states of the region. This was unsustainable especially given the population was already
weakened by crop failure and drought. The Chaco Empire failed due to the communities coming to the
conclusion that the costs paid to the central faction to be redistributed outweighed the benefits gained
so they departed one after another. (Chippindale 1) Tainter main argument is that the collapse of
societies stemmed from the failure of problem solving institutions. That once these issues arose in the

Rodney King Riots of 1992
In May of 1992, Manhattan borough president and NLC Advisory Council s Liaison for Diversity in
Governance s Ruth Messinger expressed, Violence begets violence. We must have the strength to
break this cycle out of frustration resulting from detrimental civil rights riots stemming from the brutal
beating of an African American man (Baker). From April 29th to May 1st of 1992 protestors
throughout the Los Angeles area displayed violent actions while rioting against a racially biased
verdict. The 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles show how mob mentality can negatively impact
an entire city.
On March 3rd, 1991, African American citizen Rodney King found himself engaged in a high speed
chase with a few Los Angeles policemen. Officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Ward, Stacey Koon, and
Theodore Biseno eventually caught up to 27 year old King at Dodger Stadium, where they proceeded
to brutally beat him. Witness George Holliday filmed the four officers striking King with their batons
over 50 times, and eventually sold the footage to KTLA in Los Angeles, which would soon find itself
on news and broadcasts nationwide. This event was eventually taken to trial, where the four police
officers involved in the violence against King were not found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon
and excessive use of force. After hearing the final verdict, many people throughout the city and
beyond were enraged, with even mayor Tom Bradley saying, Today the jury asked us to accept the
senseless and brutal beating of a helpless man (Wallenfeldt). Not only were people angry about the
verdict of the trial because of the video evidence and obvious ethical issues, but also because of his
race and the belief that his civil rights had been violated. The outcome of Rodney King s trial angered
many Americans across the country, and eventually caused them to take actions they normally would
not.
Later, on April 29, 1992, riots began to break out in the city of Los Angeles and other areas around the
country. During the Rodney King riots, citizens began to experience deindividuation and feelings of
anonymity, making them do things that would normally go against a

The Characteristics Of Great Leaders
What separates leaders, especially mediocre ones from the great ones? What are the attributes and
behaviors that great leaders display in order to influence people, to follow them and change the world?
Great leaders are effective when they are trustworthy, empower others, and connect with their
followers or the people they influence. Trust is the foundation of any great leader. 1) When Richard
Nixon lost the trust of the American people he knew another bid for the Presidency was over.In the
process, Nixon lost his identity as a leader and subsequently the respect and trust of the American
people whom he had worked so diligently to gain. He and many other leaders like him attempted to
isolate himself from the people of which he lead instinctively going into survival mode; denying the
ultimate truth that success as a leader is impossible if attempted to go it alone. 2) Before Steve Jobs
came back for his second amazing round at Apple, he lost the trust of the executives and John Sculley
a power struggle ensued amongst them and Jobs was ousted from the very company he created. In the
spring of 1985 Apple s board sided with the CEO, removing Jobs from his command of the Macintosh
group. Trust is the foundation of every great leader. Trust with followers comes from the character of
the leader. A great leader must have patience, integrity, confidence, and transparency. If one can win
the trust of people, people will follow. Great leaders have the ability to solidify trust by empowering
those willing to follow them.
A great leader knows their team member s strengths and plays to these strengths by giving them task
that they know will help the individual succeed as well as the overall team.
3) John C. Maxwell in his book 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership says that, a leader must give up in
order to go up . No great leader accomplishes great things by themselves; it takes a team of people.
Great leaders in order to win with people must have personable attributes to connect with the people
following them. That isn t to say that everyone has to like the leader personally but the leader must be
able to connect with the people following. 4) A prime example can be found in the 2008 primaries
between Hillary Clinton and

* Garments producer: Have to inspect minimum 10% per color or more of any consignment when
they got and assess them based on a four point system. By this process, they can minimize fabric
related quality troubles before it moved to production.
* Fabric mill: Have to inspect 100% of finished goods; defects must be recorded for each roll.
Usually four methods may be followed for fabric inspection process.
1) Graniteville 78 system.

The Use of Whey for Health Purposes
The use of whey for health purposes dates back almost 8000 years. According to Whey History by
Designer Whey, in 1650 A liquid form of whey is invented and consumed as a health tonic in Italy,
England, and other nearby countries. It was consumes in spas by the aristocrats of this time period.
Since it was very perishable and had to be consumed within 10 hours of production, people would
deliver it immediately to these spas for immediate consumption. Then in 1930 Researchers at Rutgers
University discovered that whey protein can be an effective treatment for tuberculosis and rickets.
1993 is when the first designer whey products entered the market which immediately became
extremely popular among bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts. Now, whey protein products have
become one of the most popular supplements in the health and fitness industry.
The three main forms of whey protein are concentrates, isolates, and hydrolysates. Whey protein
concentrates is the cheapest and most common form of whey protein. According to Foegeding, Davis,
Doucet, McGuffey (2002), whey protein concentrate contains high levels of protein but has more
lactose and carbohydrates than the other two forms of whey protein. Whey protein Isolates are much
higher in protein percentage and also lower in carbohydrates and lactose. Since isolates are overall
healthier and have a better taste than the concentrates, you will find that the cost is significantly more
than concentrates according to Lee (1992).

the societal influences. As society changes, the characters also change as old pressures disappear and
new pressures emerge.
As was characteristic of rural societies throughout Europe and Latin
America at the time of these literary works, the Catholic Church played a profound role in the lives of
people. Its influence was so prevalent because it was the common link between people of all social
classes. In The House of Bernarda Alba , there are many examples of religion s great influence and
significant role in the lives of the characters.
However, it must be pointed out that the Church, an institution dominated by males, heavily repressed
women and thus solidified male dominance over women in society.
At the end of Act II we see a young woman in the village that had had a child

Nasa s Mission To Mars Research Paper
Mathematically Modeling NASA s Upcoming Insight Mission to Mars
Introduction:
Ever since I was a little boy I ve been fascinated with space. Being an astronaut would be out of this
world; however, mechanical engineering has always been a dream of mine. Rockets and satellites are
of great interest to me, and the future Mars missions are exciting. As I can t physically travel to Mars,
the pictures and data collected by the many NASA probes sent there are the next best thing. At first, I
thought that sending a rocket to Mars wouldn t be that hard; you just aim the rocket at Mars and
launch it. However, it is much more complex than that. In my investigation I will mathematically
model the next rocket launch to Mars which is NASA s Insight ... Show more content on

However, by having a smaller change in velocity, the trip requires less fuel and costs less as a result.
When comparing this hypothetical journey to Mars to NASA s planned mission, the orbital path is
similar; however, the time to arrive is longer by about 52 days. Although not exactly the same flight
duration, the difference can be a result of the fact that Earth and Mars orbits aren t perfect circles and
have varying distances from each other which affect travel distance and times. The difference in time
can also stem from Kepler s Third Law: it only factors in the semi major orbit and the effect of the sun
s gravity to determine speed. However, there was no way to factor in the speed of the rocket to see its
affect on the time. In conclusion, the Hohmann Transfer Orbit is the method of choice for spacecraft
and offers reliable, albeit not 100 percent accurate data of the time and changes in velocity for an

Athena was one of his only supporters. Later on in the epic on page 120 in the Adventures of Ulysses
it says, Athene heard it. She went to Zeus and asked him to call the gods into council. That s when she
decided to persuade the gods into allowing him a sign of hope since Poseidon was not present. She
was his mentor because she looked out for him. After defeating Troy Odysseus gets to the actual part
of his adventure also known as the threshold. Odysseus encounters with The Cyclops named
Polyphemus and is cursed by Poseidon which is now one of Odysseus enemies. Circe, Nausicaa, and
Ino were his allies because they all attempt to help him try to get back to the ordinary world which
would be the land of Ithaca.
On his way back from Nausicaa s, Odysseus disguises himself as a suitor. This is his approach. The
ordeal would be him returning home and getting revenge for what they did to him and his family. He
killed all the suitors and his reward is getting his wife back. The road back is reconquering his
kingdom.
For the resurrection he has to prove to Penelope he is truly her husband and he does with the marriage

Analysis Of The Daily Life Of Edna s, The Awakening s...
Waverly Leonard
Part I Reading Journal, ch.s 1 13
Plot Summary:
These first thirteen chapters chronicle the daily life of Edna Pontellier, The Awakening s protagonist.
The novel opens on Mr. Pontellier; he is smoking a cigar and reading the newspaper while idly
observing the life and activity around him. The novel turns its attention to his wife, Edna Pontellier.
She is described as rather handsome than beautiful and has a face with a certain frankness of
expression, an intriguing description if there ever was one. She is accompanied by Robert Lebrun, the
son of Madame Lebrun, the owner of the house at which the Creole aristocracy stayed on the Grand
Isle. They are rather close companions; Robert has chosen to follow her around for the summer, as is
later revealed to be his custom. It s revealed that Edna is an American woman from the old Kentucky
bluegrass country. As the day progresses, Chopin details the tiny minutiae of married life that have
disappointed both Leonce and Edna; Leonce feels hurt by her dismissiveness He thought it very
discouraging that his wife, who was the sole object of his existence, evinced so little interest in things
which concerned him, and valued so little his conversation... while Edna resents his overbearing
conventionality An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of her
consciousness, filled her whole being with a vague anguish. The Pontelliers reconcile before Leonce
leaves for New Orleans

Trim Castle
Send me somewhere in Ireland. The Mrs. Sparr asked. Well the place I am going to send you, Mrs.
Sparr, is a place called Trim Castle. And here is an interesting fact I found about that exact place. Trim
Castle is built on the site of a wooden fortress, which was burned down by the Irish while on British
rule. I believe that Trim Castle is the absolute best place for Mrs. Sparr to go that is in Ireland. First of
all, Trim Castle sounds breathtaking, astonishing, and an especially riveting place to go. If this castle
looks familiar it is because the people who created the movie Braveheart shot part of the movie in that
very castle. It was used as a scene in a Scottish assault on York. The castle itself is in ruins and it was
the scene of many battles. But, don t be sad because you can still explore the castle and look around.

Sparr should pick this place to go is because it is very historic. Trim Castle was the first and largest
stone castle ever constructed in Ireland. It was also taken and retaken repeatedly by many groups of
people who were fighting. Trim Castle, when it was newer, more acted as a garrison than a place of
residence. One last reason, the defenses of Trim Castle are amazing and very well thought out. Trim
Castle covers about three acres of land. It is surrounded by outer curtain walls. Complete with
defensive towers to defend a seventy five foot high central

Open Educational Resources ( Oer )
Introduction
Open educational resources (OER) are any resources available at little or no cost that can be used for
teaching, learning or research (Educause, 2010). In 2008, South Africa experienced widespread load
shedding affecting the domestic and industrial electricity users as the result of the lack of capacity by
Eskom, the South African power utility. South Africa is an energy intensive country and as such
production and raw materials processing are energy intensive activities. The coal is the major primary
energy source and the abundance of coal reserves have partly contributed to the unit price of
electricity being amongst the cheapest in the world (Department of Minerals and Energy, 2005).
Energy efficiency has become recognised as one of the most effective ways of meeting the demands of
sustainable development and has been referred to as the best energy resource. In 2005 the Department
of Minerals and Energy published its Energy Efficiency Strategy in support of some of the objectives
spelt out in the 1998 White Paper on Energy Policy. The strategy set a national target for energy
efficiency improvement of 12% by 2015.
South Africa s unprecedented economic growth is one of the factors that have contributed to the
country s current power shortage situation. Building a new power station takes a number of years, and
until one or more new power stations are operational, the people of South Africa need to conserve
energy resources and use them efficiently. Energy

Nietzsche The Grey Area
Mara Holt
Christopher Wood
AP English Language and Composition
27 October 2017
The Grey Area Around 100 million animals are tested yearly around the world . Scientists willing test
these animals knowing that they are causing them harm but it is accepted because it is helping society
as a whole. What does this say about the people testing the animals; do they have any morality, do
they know what they are doing is wrong or do they feel as though they are doing it for the greater
good? In beef alone, Americans consume around 24.1 billions pounds. Here, America is again though
killing animals for our own use and benefits. Nietzsche believes that there are no morals and that
everything we have been taught is anti natural. Nietzsche implied the morals that people associate
with killing, testing, and eating animals are all antinatural. He stated; as it concerns for its own sake,
and and not out of regard for the concerns, considerations, and contrivances of life, is a specific error
with which one ought to have no pity. (Nietzsche 351) This explains how the people performing these
acts of testing, abuse, eating, and killing are only listening to their animalistic instincts or they know
that what they are doing is for the greater good. Nietzsche continued to explain that people do these
things for the benefit of themselves, Almost every party understands how it is the interest of its own
self preservation, (Nietzsche 348) Scientists test on animals to help the public, we

Critical Analysis Of The Movie Hunger Games
In this essay, I will do a critical analysis of the movie Hunger Games, the short story The Story of an
Hour, and Taylor Swift s music video Look What You Make Me Do in terms of the use of symbolism,
and the new self. The Hunger Games follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12
who volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. The
games itself is a competition to see who s the strongest. The story of an Hour is a short story that
describes the series of emotions Louise Mallard endures after hearing of the death of her husband,
Brently, who was reported to have died in a railroad accident. Mrs. Mallard suffers from heart
problems. Therefore, her sister and her husband s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mockingjay pin is the circular gold token Katniss wears during the Games to represent District
12. Each tribute is allowed one item to remind them of their friends and family in their home district;
the small pin bearing the image of a bird in flight is Katniss s. A Mockingjay is hybrid a bird. They
were once very important by the Capitol until the rebels caught on and started feeding the jabberjays
false info. Katniss s Mockingjay pin, symbolizes a creature with a spirit of its own. As hybrid
creatures that have broken free of the control of the Capitol, they suggest the inability of the Capitol to
enforce their power over all living creatures. These birds are signs of resistance and rebellion. As
Katniss says, they re something of a slap in the face to the Capitol. In many ways, Katniss herself is
very much like a Mockingjay and will come to identify the bird. This movie can also be analyzed with
Lacan s theory of new self. Katniss was forced to live in an unfair city, yet she managed to contain her
identity throughout the games. Food, for example, is a metaphor in the trilogy for another kind of
sustenance, the sustenance provided by an inner conviction of one s own worth and integrity. (Man
cannot live by bread alone.) The hunger to be an authentic self is a basic constituent of the game we
call life, and the difficulty of achieving that state Polonius tells Laertes to thine own self be true, but

Effects of Temperature, pH, Enzyme Concentration, and Substrate Concentration on Enzymatic Activity INTRODUCTION Enzymes, proteins that act as catalysts, are the most important type of protein[1]. Catalysts speed up chemical reactions and can go without being used up or changed [3] Without enzymes, the biochemical reactions that take place will react too slowly to keep up with the metabolic needs and the life functions of organisms. Catecholase is a reaction between oxygen and catechol [2]. In the presence of oxygen, the removal of two hydrogen atoms oxidizes the compound catechol, as a result of the formation of water [2]. MATERIALS AND METHODS To study the effects of temperature, pH, enzyme concentration, and substrate concentration there were certain steps that were followed in order to conduct this experiment. Each factor had a separate procedure to follow to find how each had a different effect on the enzyme. To find the effect of temperature on the activity of an enzyme, the experiment deals with the steps as follows. First, 3 mL if pH 7 phosphate buffer was used to fill three different test tubes that were labeled 10, 24, and 50. These three test tubes were set in three different temperature settings. The first test tube was placed in an ice water bath for ten minutes until it reached a temperature of 2° C or less. The second tube s temperature setting was at room temperature until a temperature of 21°C was reached. The third tube was placed in a beaker of warm water until the contents of the beaker reached a temperature setting of 60° C. There were four more test tubes that were included in the procedure. • 6. Moby Dick Rhetorical Analysis Beware the Charismatic Leader Stories often crop up in the news about people following some crazy leader, usually concerning groups like cults, fanatics, or even fan bases that appear to blindly shadow and support their idol or superior. A casual observer will most likely look down on these groups, assuming that they could never be swayed like those people; but can one really resist so charismatic a leader? History has proven that the right person with a gift for persuasion can convince anyone to do something against their normal values. In Herman Melville s novel Moby Dick, monomaniac Captain Ahab cajoles the crew of the Pequod into supporting his mission to through his incredible powers of persuasion. He uses hyperbole in this statement to emphasize the seriousness of their pledge; he claims that his entire being binds him to this course, when truly only insanity and the need for revenge drives him, but the sailors better understand the gravity of their journey on the Pequod. Ahab continues: And that ye may know to what tune this heart beats; look ye here; thus I blow out the last fear! And with one blast of his breath he extinguished the flame (522). The corposants appear to symbolize the escalating fear of the sailors throughout the chapter the more scared the sailors, the brighter the flame. The next thing you know you re in big trouble for being on the streets after 10:00 p.m. Don t like the sound of that do you? My city council is considering a curfew that would make it illegal for teenagers to be out on the streets after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and after midnight on weekends. I disagree with this consideration because teenagers may have to work late, they could be in danger, or there could be an emergency. My Experience In High School Before graduating elementary and jumping into middle school my homeroom adviser always advises us to try and enter the school program in this particular high school. The thing is to enter the program you need to take an entrance exam and get at least 85% on it. The first week of May 2012 my mom and I went to my elementary school to collect my transcripts that I needed to enroll for grade 7. At that moment and for the last time I saw my grade 6 teachers. Upon getting my transcripts I can hear my grade six teachers asking my mom if I will take the entrance exam. Two weeks later after getting my transcripts, my mother and I went to the high school. The school was crowded, it was very foreign to me, as I viewed it as I am a small shack in a city full of skyscrapers. Before enrolling, we talked about trying to take the entrance exam for the program the high school offers, I agreed. I noticed that Victor essentially judged the monster by it s looks rather than the monster s personality. Alongside the other unfair and uneducated thoughts, the author convinced me that Victor Frankenstein is a hated character. The Monster: The monster is another main character in the novel as he his creator and the society judge him based on his physical appearance. The monster shares similar personality traits that I like and dislike about Victor. I liked that the monster is helpful and friendly to others especially the De Lacy family. This reading caught my attention because a few months ago with I was in Ensenada, Mexico I came across some sex mug at a gift shop. These mugs contain woman breast as the mug holder. I also saw shot glasses of a woman preforming oral sex to a man. After reading this article I realized this kind of sexual art has been going on decades ago. Weismantle points out that in different cultures vaginal penetration was not thought of as having anything to do with reproduction. The man and woman are not always the only actors shown. I chose this quote because I feel like sex should be private and not done in front of a child like how Weismantle said that an infant was breastfeeding while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between The Birth Mark And Lulasus Nathurae In The Birth Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne and in Margaret Atwood s Lusus Naturae , the theme of mortality and the theme of man vs. society are very apparent. Characters in both stories are ostracized by their family members because of their natural appearance. In The Birth Mark, Aylmer, views his wife Georgiana s birthmark as a immense flaw in her beauty. He sees it as human imperfection and he tries to remove it and lower her self esteem. In Lusus Naturae , the protagonist in the story (who is coincidently never named) is part of a family who does not accept her because of how her physical appearance looks like. Direct Democracy Vs Representative Democracy Essay Direct Democracy vs Representative Democracy The term Democracy is derived from two Greek words, demos, meaning people, and kratos, meaning rule. These two words form the word democracy which means rule by the people. Aristotle, and other ancient Greek political philosophers, used the phrase, `the governors are to be the governed , or as we have come to know it, `rule and be ruled in turn . The two major types of democracy are Representative Democracy and Direct Democracy. Clearly the arguments for and against each form of democracy are plentiful. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not even thinkable that all citizens will agree on what good is. Rousseau recognized this and accepted a term of majority rule. Those who voted against a policy which is found to be the best for the general, must have been thinking of personal gains, rather than the gains of the entire society. The feature which distinguishes direct democracy from other forms of government is the idea of agreement and the key to agreement is discussion. It is impossible to reach an agreement without discussion, because it is not right to think that everybody will have the same opinion on all matters. But, it is very possible, that through discussion an agreement could be reached by all members. Representation, on the other hand allows a select few to make decisions in their own best interest, which is not necessarily the best interest of the society. However, direct democracy is not the perfect method to produce a union of the community. For a direct democracy to work, face to face communication between all members of the community is needed. The only way this is possible is to meet in large groups. Due to the fear of high tension, many citizens will not participate in these large group meeting. So in order for these fearful people to voice their opinions they must get together in smaller, less tensions groups, where they are not as timid to say as they wish to see happen. One might be surprised initially that a girl would want to go to the mills given the current perception of them, but in this time the mills were quite attractive initially for many women. Mary Paul initially tried to find work as a domestic for a farming family but after that failed, she moved to the mills in Lowell looking for work (Dublin 121). Most women in the early 19th century didn t have opportunities to earn and income. We will integrate information age technology with our tactical units. We will redesign units, built around people and new technologies, to enhance their agility, versatility and lethality. Combatant commanders who rely upon their communication channels are not able to effectively move vital elements within a combat theatre without the ability to move information. As the country continues to engage combatants in countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, the need to effectively communicate has become ever increasing. From April 29th to May 1st of 1992 protestors throughout the Los Angeles area displayed violent actions while rioting against a racially biased verdict. The 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles show how mob mentality can negatively impact an entire city. On March 3rd, 1991, African American citizen Rodney King found himself engaged in a high speed chase with a few Los Angeles policemen. Officers Laurence Powell, Timothy Ward, Stacey Koon, and Theodore Biseno eventually caught up to 27 year old King at Dodger Stadium, where they proceeded to brutally beat him. Witness George Holliday filmed the four officers striking King with their batons over 50 times, and eventually sold the footage to KTLA in Los Angeles, which would soon find itself on news and broadcasts nationwide. This event was eventually taken to trial, where the four police officers involved in the violence against King were not found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon and excessive use of force. After hearing the final verdict, many people throughout the city and beyond were enraged, with even mayor Tom Bradley saying, Today the jury asked us to accept the senseless and brutal beating of a helpless man (Wallenfeldt). • 38. The Characteristics Of Great Leaders What separates leaders, especially mediocre ones from the great ones? What are the attributes and behaviors that great leaders display in order to influence people, to follow them and change the world? Great leaders are effective when they are trustworthy, empower others, and connect with their followers or the people they influence. Trust is the foundation of any great leader. 1) When Richard Nixon lost the trust of the American people he knew another bid for the Presidency was over.In the process, Nixon lost his identity as a leader and subsequently the respect and trust of the American people whom he had worked so diligently to gain. He and many other leaders like him attempted to isolate himself from the people of which he lead instinctively going into survival mode; denying the ultimate truth that success as a leader is impossible if attempted to go it alone. 2) Before Steve Jobs came back for his second amazing round at Apple, he lost the trust of the executives and John Sculley a power struggle ensued amongst them and Jobs was ousted from the very company he created. In the spring of 1985 Apple s board sided with the CEO, removing Jobs from his command of the Macintosh group. Trust is the foundation of every great leader. Trust with followers comes from the character of the leader. A great leader must have patience, integrity, confidence, and transparency. If one can win the trust of people, people will follow. Great leaders have the ability to solidify trust by empowering those willing to follow them. A great leader knows their team member s strengths and plays to these strengths by giving them task that they know will help the individual succeed as well as the overall team. 3) John C. Maxwell in his book 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership says that, a leader must give up in order to go up . No great leader accomplishes great things by themselves; it takes a team of people. Great leaders in order to win with people must have personable attributes to connect with the people following them. In order to understand why these societal pressures had such a great influence upon the characters, it is important to understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, society plays an important role by influencing the characters and their actions and eventually leading to a tragic finale. Though The House of The Spirits is set in rural South America (no particular country is specified) and not rural Spain, the society described in the novel is very similar to that in The House of Bernarda Alba. Again, the characters live in a society dominated and controlled by men with distinctive social class separations and with the Catholic Church wielding great power and influence over the people. The story spans three generations of the Trueba family who are all greatly affected by the societal influences. As society changes, the characters also change as old pressures disappear and new pressures emerge. As was characteristic of rural societies throughout Europe and Latin America at the time of these literary works, the Catholic Church played a profound role in the lives of people. Its influence was so prevalent because it was the common link between people of all social classes. In The House of Bernarda Alba , there are many examples of religion s great influence and significant role in the lives of the characters. However, it must be pointed out that the Church, an institution dominated by males, heavily repressed women and thus solidified male dominance over women in society. • 42. Nasa s Mission To Mars Research Paper Mathematically Modeling NASA s Upcoming Insight Mission to Mars Introduction: Ever since I was a little boy I ve been fascinated with space. Being an astronaut would be out of this world; however, mechanical engineering has always been a dream of mine. Rockets and satellites are of great interest to me, and the future Mars missions are exciting. As I can t physically travel to Mars, the pictures and data collected by the many NASA probes sent there are the next best thing. At first, I thought that sending a rocket to Mars wouldn t be that hard; you just aim the rocket at Mars and launch it. However, it is much more complex than that. In my investigation I will mathematically model the next rocket launch to Mars which is NASA s Insight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, by having a smaller change in velocity, the trip requires less fuel and costs less as a result. When comparing this hypothetical journey to Mars to NASA s planned mission, the orbital path is similar; however, the time to arrive is longer by about 52 days. Although not exactly the same flight duration, the difference can be a result of the fact that Earth and Mars orbits aren t perfect circles and have varying distances from each other which affect travel distance and times. The difference in time can also stem from Kepler s Third Law: it only factors in the semi major orbit and the effect of the sun s gravity to determine speed. However, there was no way to factor in the speed of the rocket to see its affect on the time. In conclusion, the Hohmann Transfer Orbit is the method of choice for spacecraft and offers reliable, albeit not 100 percent accurate data of the time and changes in velocity for an interplanetary ... • 44. Analysis Of The Daily Life Of Edna s, The Awakening s... Waverly Leonard Part I Reading Journal, ch.s 1 13 Plot Summary: These first thirteen chapters chronicle the daily life of Edna Pontellier, The Awakening s protagonist. The novel opens on Mr. Pontellier; he is smoking a cigar and reading the newspaper while idly observing the life and activity around him. The novel turns its attention to his wife, Edna Pontellier. She is described as rather handsome than beautiful and has a face with a certain frankness of expression, an intriguing description if there ever was one. She is accompanied by Robert Lebrun, the son of Madame Lebrun, the owner of the house at which the Creole aristocracy stayed on the Grand Isle. They are rather close companions; Robert has chosen to follow her around for the summer, as is later revealed to be his custom. It s revealed that Edna is an American woman from the old Kentucky bluegrass country. As the day progresses, Chopin details the tiny minutiae of married life that have disappointed both Leonce and Edna; Leonce feels hurt by her dismissiveness He thought it very discouraging that his wife, who was the sole object of his existence, evinced so little interest in things which concerned him, and valued so little his conversation... while Edna resents his overbearing conventionality An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of her consciousness, filled her whole being with a vague anguish. • 45. Trim Castle Send me somewhere in Ireland. The Mrs. Sparr asked. Well the place I am going to send you, Mrs. Sparr, is a place called Trim Castle. And here is an interesting fact I found about that exact place. Trim Castle is built on the site of a wooden fortress, which was burned down by the Irish while on British rule. I believe that Trim Castle is the absolute best place for Mrs. Sparr to go that is in Ireland. First of all, Trim Castle sounds breathtaking, astonishing, and an especially riveting place to go. If this castle looks familiar it is because the people who created the movie Braveheart shot part of the movie in that very castle. It was used as a scene in a Scottish assault on York. The castle itself is in ruins and it was the scene of many battles. But, don t be sad because you can still explore the castle and look around. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was also taken and retaken repeatedly by many groups of people who were fighting. Trim Castle, when it was newer, more acted as a garrison than a place of residence. One last reason, the defenses of Trim Castle are amazing and very well thought out. Trim Castle covers about three acres of land. It is surrounded by outer curtain walls. • 46. Open Educational Resources ( Oer ) Introduction Open educational resources (OER) are any resources available at little or no cost that can be used for teaching, learning or research (Educause, 2010). In 2008, South Africa experienced widespread load shedding affecting the domestic and industrial electricity users as the result of the lack of capacity by Eskom, the South African power utility. South Africa is an energy intensive country and as such production and raw materials processing are energy intensive activities. The coal is the major primary energy source and the abundance of coal reserves have partly contributed to the unit price of electricity being amongst the cheapest in the world (Department of Minerals and Energy, 2005). Energy efficiency has become recognised as one of the most effective ways of meeting the demands of sustainable development and has been referred to as the best energy resource. In 2005 the Department of Minerals and Energy published its Energy Efficiency Strategy in support of some of the objectives spelt out in the 1998 White Paper on Energy Policy. The strategy set a national target for energy efficiency improvement of 12% by 2015. South Africa s unprecedented economic growth is one of the factors that have contributed to the country s current power shortage situation. Building a new power station takes a number of years, and until one or more new power stations are operational, the people of South Africa need to conserve energy resources and use them efficiently. • 47. Nietzsche The Grey Area Mara Holt Christopher Wood AP English Language and Composition 27 October 2017 The Grey Area Around 100 million animals are tested yearly around the world . Scientists willing test these animals knowing that they are causing them harm but it is accepted because it is helping society as a whole. What does this say about the people testing the animals; do they have any morality, do they know what they are doing is wrong or do they feel as though they are doing it for the greater good? In beef alone, Americans consume around 24.1 billions pounds. Here, America is again though killing animals for our own use and benefits. Nietzsche believes that there are no morals and that everything we have been taught is anti natural. Nietzsche implied the morals that people associate with killing, testing, and eating animals are all antinatural. He stated; as it concerns for its own sake, and and not out of regard for the concerns, considerations, and contrivances of life, is a specific error with which one ought to have no pity. (Nietzsche 351) This explains how the people performing these acts of testing, abuse, eating, and killing are only listening to their animalistic instincts or they know that what they are doing is for the greater good. Nietzsche continued to explain that people do these things for the benefit of themselves, Almost every party understands how it is the interest of its own self preservation, (Nietzsche 348) Scientists test on animals to help the public, we ... • 48. Critical Analysis Of The Movie Hunger Games In this essay, I will do a critical analysis of the movie Hunger Games, the short story The Story of an Hour, and Taylor Swift s music video Look What You Make Me Do in terms of the use of symbolism, and the new self. The Hunger Games follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. The games itself is a competition to see who s the strongest. The story of an Hour is a short story that describes the series of emotions Louise Mallard endures after hearing of the death of her husband, Brently, who was reported to have died in a railroad accident. Mrs. Mallard suffers from heart problems. Therefore, her sister and her husband s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were once very important by the Capitol until the rebels caught on and started feeding the jabberjays false info. Katniss s Mockingjay pin, symbolizes a creature with a spirit of its own. As hybrid creatures that have broken free of the control of the Capitol, they suggest the inability of the Capitol to enforce their power over all living creatures. These birds are signs of resistance and rebellion. As Katniss says, they re something of a slap in the face to the Capitol. In many ways, Katniss herself is very much like a Mockingjay and will come to identify the bird. This movie can also be analyzed with Lacan s theory of new self. Katniss was forced to live in an unfair city, yet she managed to contain her identity throughout the games. Food, for example, is a metaphor in the trilogy for another kind of sustenance, the sustenance provided by an inner conviction of one s own worth and integrity. (Man cannot live by bread alone.) The hunger to be an authentic self is a basic constituent of the game we call life, and the difficulty of achieving that state Polonius tells Laertes to thine own self be true, but ...
