Isabel Allende Magical Realism
Magical Realism: a genre of literature that blends realistic elements with magical elements to
create magical realism. This writing technique made famous in Latin American and inspired the
work of Isabel Allende and her collection of short stories The stories of Eva Luna Allende s use
of magical realism in Walima gave a magical twist to a seemingly normal reality. An example of
this would be on page. 131 when the young Ila girls was introduced her tribe known among the
people were thought of as ...the people of gentle heart... It hurt young Walima to see the girl lying
there ...tied by one ankle to a chain staked in the ground... she looked like a lizard and her bones
...clicked like a small stones in a river. The text uses magical realism to describe just how horrible
her current condition was. In the short story Phantom Palace on page 300 when describing the
Indians, they used magical realism to depicted them as Always hiding, like shadows...speaking in
whispers... Then in The School Teachers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author gave it a very magical description ...transformed the dwelling into a fossil of
prehistoric dimensions, an enormous beast... Another type of magical realism is making sense
of two separate realities: the conquered and the conqueror. In the story The School Teachers
Guest one example is Ines s confession of her love to Halabi ...you are the person I love most in
the world... Ines s is conquered by her love by him that she never moved on or found another
lover. Riad halabi was conquered and the conqueror, after the death of Ines son he acted as ,,,if he
were a member of the family... so he s the conqueror here but hes the conquered in the end by ...the
death of the school teacher Ines s freed us... In the Phantom Palace the same reality was presented
but in this one the male, El Benefactor

Arguments Against Therapeutic Cloning
For many years there has been a large controversy over the use of cloning for therapeutic and
reproductive purposes. The argument against therapeutic cloning is that creating an exact replica
of one s self all for the use of harvesting its parts is considered killing another human being.
However, some people are for this use so that they can survive as long as they can, and use the
clones materials as a way to cure disease or heal injuries. On the other hand, reductive cloningalso
has two sides, for and against. People who believe that reproductive cloning is okay, want to
create another version of themselves just to either have themselves as a baby or replace a loved
one. But, people who are against reproductive cloning believe that it is a selfish or unreasonable
act to have one birth a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people fawn over the idea of cloning themselves and to have a replica of themselves be
birthed by a surrogate mother. However, I believe that parents who are selfish would use the
advantages of having a baby clone of themselves will overuse the power, and distinguish the
rights of the baby. Since parents have legal right over medical decisions for the child, there is
nothing from preventing them from harvesting their own child for their own good. I may be
completely against reproductive cloning, however, some people and/or parents feel as if having a
clone of a lost one will make up for their absence. Recreating someone doesn t mean that it is the
same as the original because, with different external impacts, a clone can easily have different
personalities, feelings, and memories. Therefore technically trying to bring back someone back,
will be emotionally unsuccessful. With the technology that our world has today, reproductive
cloning is absolutely possible and has been done before, but I believe that it will damage the human

Lesson Description Of What You And The Students Will Do Essay
Lesson Description (Overall description of what you and the students will do)
I will start the class by showing a YouTube video or two to provide the context of our reading to
students. To start off the lesson, I will have a powerpoint projecting the three new vocabulary
words, martyr , cadaver and demonstration up on screen and I will make students learn these new
words and ask them to jot down the definitions in their notebooks. I will also review the
academic language at the beginning to make sure students are fully equipped and ready to dive
into the reading seamlessly. After this, I will provide handouts of Persepolis chapter #4 to students
and ask them to read the text on their own and understand the characters. Next, I will ask students
to form a group a write a description and construct a picture of a specific word, as a part of the
formative assessment. I would walk around the class to make sure students are not simply
copying what has been taught and are not making major errors. At this point, I will ask specific
groups of students to discuss and debrief their interpretation of the definitions they have come up
with and share a common response as a group. I will ask each group to share the description as
well as the picture with the rest of the class. This way, students will be able to learn and imbibe all
the vocabulary words and their meanings. As a teacher, I would want to make sure that students are
coming up with responses within the parameters of the

Essay On Nature Vs Nurture
Nature Versus Nurture Within a Violent Adult s Child Development A majority of adulthood can
account for how an adult was as a child. During these important developmental stages humans are
incredibly inclined to absorb their environment and the social norms of those surrounding them.
However, nature versus nurture is the theory I which debates whether humans are more impacted
by their genetics or how they were raised. I am exceptionally interested in the development of
children and how their environment and genetics impact them as adults. I chose this specific topic
because I am also interested in the past of violent adults and how they arrived at the place they
currently are mentally. Within this essay, evidence will be prevented... Show more content on

However, this is damaging to society because early signs of violent habits can be ignored or not
taken care as well. Unsurprisingly, most serial killers have experienced a childhood filled with
various amounts of violence or abuse. Violence and abuse can be detrimental to the development
of a child, especially during their sensitive stages. Sensitive stages are when a child is more apt
to learn something and strengthen their brain. The reason these stages are so detrimental are
because the social norms learned during this time become habitual. Abuse can have a large
spectrum. Abuse can be defined as neglect throughout childhood, whether that is emotional,
physically, or both. Abuse can also be violent acts toward the child or a spouse. Violence can
vary from sexual abuse to physical abuse or both. These factors are the foundations of a child who
may have violent tendencies when they grow into adulthood. Secondly, children with an
uninvolved family environment are especially inclined for a violent future. The reasoning behind
this statement expressed by the authors is because the children are often forced to undergo the
role of the caretaker when they are young. This causes a difficult childhood and can cause the

Review Of The Book The Giver By Lois Lowry
Jonas s community is attempting to seem like the perfect place, a heaven for the orderly, a world
that contains no hate and war. In Lois Lowry s book, The Giver , Jonas longs for a life away from
his perfect community. He lived his whole life in the community, but like most residents of it, he
doesn t even know half of the secrets, concerning the life outside the community. Each December,
there is a ceremony for each age, and at each ceremony you get something. Jonaswas turning
twelve, and he was receiving his occupation for the rest of his life. He has shown all the qualities
that a Receiver must have: Jonas s assigned job, was the most respected position in the community.
He meets The Giver, who was the former receiver of memories. He shares every kind of
memories with him from a simple sled ride to the painful memory of warfare and hate. The
community had no idea what being released meant, but being current Receiver of Memory, Jonas
got to watch a very special release, the release of Gabriel s twin. Jonas couldn t go home because of

Furthermore, Jonas had such a strong bond with Gabriel, that he forgot the rules in his presence,

The Story of Qiu Ju, directed by Zhang Yimou has many underlying as well as apparent themes
enwrapped in the film to absorb the audience. These themes coincide with the themes from, Ermo
which was directed by Zhou Xiaowen. These two films have multiple similarities as well as
differences; these similarities and differences of the two films are especially embodied in the two

an immense part in each film. Qiu Ju, which was played by the prominent actress Gong Listarred in,

In a way this is a given since everybody in China celebrates the Chinese festivities in the same
way. In both films, the women s ambitions lead them to make regular trips from their rural village
to town, necessitating a clash with forces of modernization on the respective forms of government
bureaucracy. (Lu, T., 1998, 2006) To take things a bit further, Qiu Ju sells her red chili peppers to
make money as Ermo sells her twisty noodles, this shows both of these woman taking advantage of
the free market economy.
Another similar topic of interest was the children in the movie. Again, the gender of children
was discriminated by how males were favored over females. This is of course due to the fact that
the male would be able to carry on the family line, while the female would not be able to. The
reason why Qiu Ju s husband was kicked in the groin was for saying that the village political
head could only breed hens, it was said with such condescending tone that clearly displayed how
males are favored over females. On the contrary, Ermo taunts her neighbor about the virility of her
husband since he has not been able to produce a male yet. The neighbor does not take these
comments lightly and retorts with her own remarks of Ermo s husband s virility.

Theme Of Innocence In The House On Mango Street
The House on Mango Street uses three vignettes to state that innocence shelters children from
the extreme truth of the adult world. To begin, in The First Job , an older man unexpectedly
forces himself on Esperanza: I thought I would because he was so old and just as I was about to
put my lips on his cheek, he grabs my face with both hands and kisses me hard on the mouth and
doesn t let go (Cisneros 55). Esperanza s innocence allowed her to kiss an old man on the cheek
for his birthday because she could not imagine anything inappropriate occurring. However, the
man grabs [her] face with both hands and doesn t let go . This violent action shatters the
innocence that has hidden Esperanza from the adult truth. Next, Esperanza witnesses how Tito
and the boys treat Sally in The Monkey Garden : One of Tito s friends said you can t get the keys
back unless you kiss us and Sally pretended to be mad at first but she said yes (Cisneros 96). The
adult game played angers Esperanza as the boys use Sally to their advantage and Sally
[pretends] to be mad but still willingly complies. Esperanza, unlike Sally, sees the situation as
wrong because of her innocence, but when she attempts to save Sally, the boys laugh at her.
Embarrassed, Esperanza is exposed to an adult type of game and now feels confused from this
break in her innocence. Finally, Esperanza completely loses her innocence after being sexually
assaulted at the carnival: You re a liar. They all lied. All the books and

Othello Prejudice And Prejudice
Discrimination At It s Finest
Racism and Sexism are two extremely prominent problems that have been occurring for many
years. Many people are prejudice towards others who are not the same as them. Today we have
come very far in order to limit discrimination, although there are still many places and people that
are sexist and racist. In the three texts I read this term Othello, Snow Falling on Cedars and
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) there is a direct link to either racism, sexism or
even both. These texts were all set in past times except for Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning
Juliet) which had components of the story that were set in today s time. We are going to explore the

This playwright shows us how people today discriminate against women particularly seen in the
views on Desdemona s character. Academe believes that you re a doomed and helpless victim.
(2.2). Constance tells Desdemona this and instantly Desdemona is enraged by the fact people
think this of her. We are exposed to a side of Desdemona in this play that we may have not
picked up on entirely in Othello. Constance opens our eyes to the fact that Desdemona is a
strong and capable character and not the innocent and helpless character that she is made out to
seem. You are magnificent! Othello should make you his lieutenant. You re capable of greatness,
Desdemona. (2,2). Because Desdemona is never given a real voice in Othello her character is
watered down and her true colours are not shown. Readers are sexist against Desdemona because
she is a woman and in those times women were considered to be much less powerful and
important than men. Constance Ledbelly is also taken advantage of because she is a woman by her

Cultural Attitudes Regarding Social Policy
Cultural attitudes regarding social policy often change with time. One of the best ways to analyze
the changing culture of a society is by examining the progression of its laws. The laws governing
marijuana have varied widely throughout the history of the United States. Tracking the path of
laws regarding marijuana is a demonstrable example of social change; those laws having gone
from one extreme to the other and back. There has been a fundamental change in cultural attitude
regarding the legalization of marijuana. Examples of this shift can be seen by examining the
history of marijuana before it was illegal, why the laws changed to make in illegal (even a felony),
the change in attitude, the racial aspect, modern legislation,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hemp was allowed to be exchanged as legal tender in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland (2) .
Following the Mexican revolution of 1910, Mexican immigrants flocked to the U.S. and introduced
the recreational use of cannabis by smoking its leafs. They called the substance marijuana. The fear
and prejudice about the Mexican immigrants became associated with marijuana. Anti marijuana
campaigns were initiated in the 1920s for many reasons. Newspaper industry executive, William
Randolph Hearst, felt threatened that the supply of hemp, which was a cheaper and stronger fiber
than paper, would undercut paper prices. Hearst, in addition to being a newspaper executive, had
financial holdings in timber, the main component of paper. He used negative propaganda published
in his newspapers to create public fear. The claim that Mexicans were committing crimes and
attributing it to their marijuana use was a result of the propaganda, shifting the cultural attitude
against marijuana. By the 1930s. unemployment caused by the Great Depression, increased the
outrage toward the Mexican immigrants, as they usurped ever shrinking number of American jobs.
The fact that the Mexicants were associated with marijuana use resulted in a negative public
impression. In 1936 the infamous anti marijuana movie Reefer Madness was released. The film
depicts a group of teenagers smoking marijuana and proceeding to do mischievous acts from a hit

Analysis Of Drag Representations In Film
As the semester comes to an end, there is so much I have learned about Drag as an art form, and
the community that surrounds it. When I wrote my first journal entry, I talked about how I did not
know much about the Drag community besides watching RuPaul s Drag Race and visiting
different bars and clubs like the Parliament House and Pulse to see different Queens perform once
in a while. After this course, I have learned about how the Drag community is quite diverse and
experimental. A few of the topics that have changed my perspective on Drag, and the community
were looking at Drag Representations in Film, Charles Busch, and Dragula.
When first learning about Drag Representations in Film, I have seen the Hedwig and the Angry
Inch film adaptation, as well as, Mrs. Doubtfire. I always knew that for the most part there were
usually cisgender people representing transgender characters, but it never clicked that there has
been almost no representation of legitimate transgender actors in film. There are some moments
that we discussed during the course that had an impact on my opinion of the representation in film.
While going through the slides, there was a moment where even though cisgender actors plays
transgender characters, performers like Felicity Huffman made sure to at least mention the
importance of the transgender community, whereas Jared Leto did not care to mention a word
about the community. Even though Mr. Leto may not have said anything, this spoke volumes to the

Gabrielle Norris Reflection
To a sixth grade Gabrielle Norris, talking to an entire school at a pep rally would have been
impossible. To an eighth grade Gabrielle Norris, dressing like a princess and standing on a
football field to be recognized would have been preposterous. As a senior now, I wish I had done
the things that I wanted to do in my intermediate and early secondary schoolyears. I was holding
myself back. I was unhappy because of my circumstance, but did not know how to talk about it.
Social anxiety runs within my familys genetics, but I overcame it with a simple speech that changed
my life forever.
I was afraid of people as early as elementary school. My fear was not the usual stranger danger
fear. I would have issues with asking questions and talking, yet I did not know of what I was
afraid of. I was comfortable with seclusion. I eventually became depressed in intermediate school,
because I had no friends. I remained miserable as a child and teenager, until I decided that I
needed to change. I wanted positive and pleasurable memories and longed for my high school
experience to be different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

History of the Perfect Number
The perfect number is a positive integer that is equal to the sum of its proper divisors. Earlier
definitions of a perfect number were aliquot parts of a number. An aliquot part means a proper
quotient of a number. According to Webster s dictionary, the term perfect number was first used in
the 14th century. The discovery of such numbers was lost in prehistory. The smallest perfect number
is six. It is the sum of its divisors one, two, and three. Other perfect numbers are twenty eight, 128,
and 496. In the paragraphs below I will talk about the history of the perfect number and Euclid s
theorem and the founder of the perfect number.
The first four perfect numbers were known to the ancients Greeks over 2,000 years ago. Some
cultures back then gave mystic interpretations to the numbers and thought they were magic. The
first four perfect numbers were six, twenty eight, 496, and 8,128. Of the two dozen perfect
numbers now known, all of them are even numbers. If there are any odd perfect numbers they are
quite big, are well over 300 digits long, and have multiple prime factors.
The ancient Christian scholar Augustine said, ‟That God could have created the world in an
instant but he chose to do it in a perfect number of six days. Many times the twenty eight day
cycle of the moon around the earth was given as an example of a Heavenly or a perfect event that
naturally was a perfect number. The number six is perfect in itself. Historians and discovers

there was little consistency of purpose among the party in Russia. However, by the summer of
1922, the Bolsheviks had become the dominant force, and a new communist state had emerged
from their success. The purpose of this essay is to explain this transformation.

It was unpopular, as there appeared to be few aims to the continued fighting. The government

The continuation of the war meant that the key issues of peace, bread and land that Lenin so aptly

Art Nouveau Rhetorical Analysis
The article that I chose to analyze was The Role of Women in the Iconography of Art Nouveau
by Jan Thompson. The main argument in this essay is the depiction of women as objects in the
Nouveau style and how they were highly idealized and depicted very differently than they
appeared in real life. The intended audience for this essay is women. The author was able to
successfully argue and prove their thesis through historical perspective, detailed analyses of the
depiction of women as objects, and the use of relevant primary sources. Thompson gives a brief
description of what was happening during the time of the Art Nouveau style and how it affected
the depiction of women. During this time, suffrage was beginning to take hold in society and
women were beginning to embrace their own individualism and began taking their lives into their
own hands. The author argues that the depiction of women as highly idealized objects was a
reaction to this movement and was an attempt by artists to resist the changes in society. The
depiction of women as fragile, helpless objects was to reinforce the belief that women were inferior
to men. The idealization of women in the Art Nouveau style was an attempt by artists of the time to

objects in advertising. This supports her thesis, as using women as an appealing factor in

sexuality. The use of women as sexual objects in a simple salad oil advertisement further reinforces
the idea that women were objects meant to appeal towards male audiences. Using works from the
time gives her argument credibility because she is supporting her thesis with works from the Art

there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have
you done to us, bringing us out of Egypt? 12Is this not the very thing we told you in Egypt, Let us
alone and let us serve the Egyptians ? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians
than to die in the wilderness. 13But Moses said to the people, Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see

The period of oppression followed; the Pharaoh ordered the Jews to build the cities of Pithom
and Ramesses. To avoid a population explosion among the Hebrews, Pharaoh ordered each
newborn son to be thrown into the river. Moses was nevertheless preserved by his mother for
the first three months of his life before she finally decided to put him in a rush basket on the
river s edge. The Pharaoh s daughter discovered him, rescued him and gave him to a nurse, none
other than his own mother. This was because Moses s sister had watched to see who would find
the baby, had pretended not to recognize him and then recommended to the Princess a nurse who
was really the child s mother. He was treated as one of the Pharaoh s sons and given the name
Moses .
God ordered Moses to go and find the Pharaoh and lead his brothers out of Egypt. Aaron, Moses s
brother, helped him in this task. This is why Moses, once he had returned to Egypt, went with his
brother to visit the Pharaoh who was the successor of the king under whose reign he had long ago
been born.
The Pharaoh refused to allow the Jews in Moses s group to leave Egypt. God revealed Himself to
Moses once again and ordered him to repeat his request to Pharaoh. According to the Bible, Moses
was eighty years old at this time. Through magic, Moses showed the Pharaoh that he had
supernatural powers. This was not enough however. God sent the famous plagues down upon
Egypt. The rivers were changed into blood,

Imagery In Macbeth By Caroline Spurgeon
Imagery makes use of words that help to create a visual of ideas in one s mind throughout works of
literature. According to Caroline F.E Spurgeon, the imagery in Macbeth appears to be more rich
and varied, more highly imaginative, more unapproachable by any other writer, than that of any
other single play (Spurgeon 155). The imagery helps readers to understand and imagine the
complexities of the play. One particular piece of imagery that is evident throughout Macbethis the
picture of Macbeth himself. An idea that recurs throughout Macbeth, is that Macbeth s new honors
causes him to have an ill change in his personality. Readers are able to see this recurring change
through imagery. Surgeon describes this change as a loose and badly fitting

Applying Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Model to Isd Essay
Applying Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Model to ISD
Abstract The way that an instructional designer defines learning and what is believed about the
way learning occurs plays an important role in situations where the facilitator wants to make a
change in how people do a job or they need to learn something new on the job. This paper focuses
on Malcolm Knowles adult learning assumptions and how to apply them in instructional strategies
and techniques for facilitating learning. It also explores some of the critics concerning his
assumptions. Knowles assumptions concerning adult learning are each addressed and an example
provided on how to apply these assumptions to ISD using technology. The information presented

Knowles laid the groundwork that trainers needed to take into consideration before revising,
developing, or presenting any training program targeted at adults.
Knowles begins his assessments by asking several crucial questions about his learners and using a
holistic approach in developing training in chapter 13 ASTD. He begins by addressing the climate
and condition of the environment that he will be teaching in. His goal is to focus on collaboration
between the facilitator, the trainee, and their peers. He wants a comfortable atmosphere with the
proper tools and accommodations that will help his students learn in comfort. His methods are
geared towards building a friendly, fun, and approachable learning atmosphere.
Diagnosing the audience needs can be done in many different ways, such as in Rothwell s learning
assessment. Knowles on the other hand includes his participants in diagnosing their own learning
needs. Knowles proposes that learning is not a need unless the trainee perceives it to be and by
allowing them to participate in the planning of their own learning, he helps them want to learn what
they need to learn. Knowles suggests an emphasis on self diagnostic procedures such as simulation
exercises, assessments; competency based testing, and feedback. Once the learner has diagnosed

Computer Networks And Its Impact On The Organization s...
Computer networks allow for employees within an organization to share files and exchange ideas
more efficiently. Also, computer networks make it easier to back up all the company s data on an
offsite server. Computer networking supports business operations and contributes immensely to
globalization. Therefore, organizations invest heavily in computer networks ensuring they work
efficiently. This paper discusses ten points to consider when evaluating a computer network. These
evaluation points explore the network s: security, data rate, network upgrade tolerance, device
interfacing, internetconnections, application performance, network services, wireless connectivity,
and its cost.
Network supports business value
American businesses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data rate analysis
For networks, the data medium is an important component. Given the medium works properly, then
the speed of transferring data (data rate) is good and short of delayed transmission. It is important
to ensure that networks have the right data medium in place. E.g. wired networks mostly utilize
Ethernet cables which can utilize coaxial cable, twisted pair wires or fibre optics. Furthermore,
these technologies come with pros and cons. A differentiator organization might ignore the cost of
fibre optics to gain higher data rates. Conversely, a cost leader might utilize twisted pair wires as
they are the least expensive technology used in networks. The network s performance and data rate
is determined by the data medium hence it has to be analyzed during a network
evaluation.(Ramandeep, 2013)
Accommodates company expansion (can be upgraded)
Sometimes, large companies absorb smaller companies to gain several advantages. For example, a
German company acquired the company I work for recently. Hence, the buyout entails
reorganization within the two companies and network upgrades. Also, the coming together of the
two companies creates jobs and the company will be hiring new employees who need access to
network resources. Furthermore, the company s research facility is expanding and new offices will
require connectivity. Thus, evaluating my companies network will require determining whether a
network upgrade is

their top administrative need in the new 111th Congress set to start in January 2009. In its present

increases in the House and the Senate in the November 2008 race.
EFCA s key components are portrayed in more detail beneath.
I. Confirmation Taking into account Greater part Card Check
EFCA would revise Area 9(c) of the NLRA to require that, where a worker s party documents a
representation appeal, the NLRB must ensure the union as the restrictive dealing illustrative of the

unit, and (2) that a lion s share of representatives in that haggling unit have communicated their
inclination in composing that the union speak to them. This outflow of hobby is generally shown
through marked approval cards.
Right now, under the NLRA, a business need not perceive a union in view of marked approval

of votes cast in a mystery poll race led by the NLRB. Under EFCA, a business would not be
approved to require a mystery tally decision

account a card check.
Under EFCA, a union would require just to acquire marked

Christian Worldview Essay
At any given point in time, and with any given human being, an individual s opinion and
behavior expose their worldview by demonstrating their perception of what they believe to be
true. The worldview of every person has a comprehensive perspective of reality in every aspect of
life. It is important to note that a person s worldview might not actually possess the truth, but it is
their truth, and that is what makes it their worldview. Consequently, one s personal understanding
seeps into every matter of one s life and the lives of others, both in private and public issues.
Furthermore, the essence of an established worldview is shaped by external influences such as one
s cultural environment, upbringing, companions, and the media. As a result of differing and
incompatible opinions among humans, worldviews are generally categorized into separate groups.
Moreover, similar worldviews that share beliefs and morals are able to... Show more content on

First, have you ever wonder what homemade French fries taste like? Well, for me it tastes like a

she was an amazing cook. She was learning how to cook rice, beans, chicken and mixing food

I still had hope that she would learn how to cook and that it tastes... well... good. But I should have

Minutes later, my stomach started to hurt really bad. I told Lee, I feel sick. She replied, Then go to

Isabel Allene s Gold Rush In Daughter Of Fortune
When gold was discovered in 1848, a gold rush was created. James Marshall discovered it at Sutter
s Mill. People from around the world came to find gold for themselves and strike it rich. People
left their belongings and their families behind for a chance to find gold. Many people who came to
California did not find gold and lost most of their money. Before this California was relatively small
in population. Many towns in California that were small turned into boomtowns. Boomtowns were
cities which population grew exponentially. San Francisco had a population of 200 residents and
then grew to over 30,000 people during the gold rush. With all the people coming in, violence,
gangs, prostitution, and land destruction arose.

Echo And Narcissus Analysis
Comparing Tragedies: Echo vs. Narcissus
Ovid displays an impressive grasp of language in his poem Narcissus and Echo which allows him
to address many classic themes, the chief of these being the theme of unfulfilled love and the
suffering it brings. The most notable instances of this type of suffering are Echo and Narcissus
transformations; Echo withers away until she is naught but a voice, and Narcissus is trapped in
place until he eventually transforms into a flower. Upon finishing this tale, the reader is left with
much to consider, including the question: which fate is worse? Of course, both fates are certainly
cruel, but they given the specific themes and diction that Ovid uses when describing each pseudo
death, Echo s punishment seems far less dehumanizing than Narcisssus ; whereas Narcissus is
completely objectified by his transformation into a beautiful flower, Echo at least maintains the
power of voice.
Given Ovid s diction during Echo s introduction, it is clear that her fate is directly tied to the
power of speech and voice. Ovid calls her resounding Echo as if this is her title, and the use of
the word resounding is very important (line 26). Why not call her loud or huge or any of the
other synonyms tied to the word resounding ? One can only assume that Ovid wanted to make
use of the word s other definition: resonant and reverberant. By essentially introducing her as
Reverberant Echo and mentioning that her speech was strange , Ovid immediately alerts the
reader to what is both Echo s downfall and her saving grace: Words have power. Echo over uses
words in her favor when she d talk and talk,/ to give her sister nymphs just enough/ time to slip
away before they were found out, by Juno (lines 38 40), and eventually, her speech turns on her
when she is able to do little more than repeat Narcissus words back to him despite how much she
wishes to sing his praises. In the end, however, Echo s final punishment is to become no more than
a voice, no more than a literal echo. Surely, this fate is cruel, but perhaps it is not completely
unforgiving; though it is very little consolation, Echo at least maintains the power of voice, and
however diluted this power might be, Ovid writes,

Being ransacked, raped, and pillaged, and most of all, murdered and driven out of your homes, all
by your government? These were the horrors about 100 native tribes faced in a region of Sudan
named Darfur in 2003. The government of Sudan took up arms against these villages for a number
of reasons, here including the ongoing fight between the native farmers and nomads, the Sudanese
government being corrupt, and the struggle between the villagers/farmers and their government.
All beginning in the late 1980 s, General Omar Bashir took over Sudan using a military Coup,
therefore allowing the National Islamic Front to worsen the problems. Weapons started to flow into
Darfur because of these conflicts, and little by little the native farmers started

The Quality Film I Have Selected
EDITING PAPER
The quality film I have selected is Goodfellas . I believe this is truly one of the best films created
during its time period. A little information about this movie before going into more detail involves
the starring of popular actors, along with the movie focusing on many characters but specifically
Henry Hill. Throughout this paper I will discuss such elements as: the plot; acting; directing;
originality of story; soundtrack; and other important aspects in the production of the film. This
film was a huge box office success and I will explore how its production made this possible.
For the plot in the Goodfellas , it centers on a young boy named Henry Hill. In the beginning the
film shows Henry doing minor things for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the death of Tommy everything fell apart. Jimmy turned his back on Henry leading to Henry
later ratting on the organization. Overall, the plot could be shown as; Henry works his way up
through the system in the Mafia, it also shows his hardships throughout the movie. The movie also
introduces the life of a gangster during that time period, it showed how one day everything could
be fine and the next not so well.
The acting in this film was excellent in my opinion. The three main characters: Ray Liotta, Joe
Pesci, and Robert De Niro all played their roles phenomenally. The film was directed by Martin
Scorsese. An interesting fact I found out was, Al Pacino was offered Niro s role and he turned it
down. I thought the characters played a great job with their roles. Majority of the actors in this
movie had some sort of connection in gangster films. A few of the actors in the Goodfellas were
big stars in The Sopranos which I found to be intriguing. In all, the acting throughout this film in
my opinion was fantastic. Each actor played their role in a unique yet, spectacular way.
The originality of the movie Goodfellas is based on the book Wiseguy . These two are very
similar. Both the movie and the book share the same setting and outcomes. The film s setting is
East Brooklyn. The character s personalities are also similar. Henry s true joy was hijacking and in
the movie he also enjoyed doing it. The

Comparison Between Routine Activities Theory And Rational...
Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make
reasonable decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions
based on their best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities
Theory, Lifestyle Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that
the circumstances of an individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social
interaction or activities. Therefore, depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could
ascend or descent (Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory
is basically the type of routine a person keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone
has different routine activities, some individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as
robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in class. For instance, a young woman that works until 1 o
clock at night, and walks home in the dark is more vulnerable to be rob or sexual assaulted.... Show

They state that depending on a person s daily routine whether work or social activities,
victimization rate differentiate. (as cited in Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 239). For example,
people that have a higher status in society are at lower risk of victimization because they engage
in less routine activities and the places they hang around are saved. However, deprived individuals
have a higher risk of being victimized due to the environment and the interactions with criminals, as
well as, the places they frequent are unsafe, as talked over in

Taking a Look at the Kyoto Protocol
The Kyoto Protocol is a binding international agreement, which began in Kyoto, Japan in 1997.
As of June 2013, there were a total of 192 parties participating in the Kyoto Protocol, Canada was
no longer one of them. Canada was one of the first to sign the agreement, in 1998; more than 4
years later, Canada formally approved the Kyoto Accord, in 2002. This meant Canada would
have to decrease its emissions, by 6% in comparison to 1990 levels (461 Mt), by the year 2012.
Despite some efforts, Canada failed to meet these requirements and in fact increased total
emissions by roughly 24% by the year 2008. Canada formally withdrew from the Kyoto Accord in
2011, avoiding penalties and future detriments. The withdrawal of Canada from the Kyoto... Show

In the year 2000, before ratifying the agreement, they began with $500 million, in comparison to
the total amount just three years later, $500 million is not a lot. Federal spending reached 1.7
billion in 2003, just one year after Canada ratified the Kyoto Protocol, and two years before the
protocol took effect. If Canada had endured the agreement, it was believed to have cost over ten
billion. Although we should be involved in saving the earth, the amount of money is too big of a
price to pay, and we will never know how much it would take to reduce greenhouse gases to that of
the agreement.
The Kyoto Protocol does not benefit Canada because it is unfair, too costly, and now that the
United States has withdrawn from the agreement, it can only be bad news for Canada. The
Kyoto Protocol does not treat every country fairly. Canada has more to lose with the Protocol
than other countries, and they should all be treated in the same way. Some of the world s largest
polluters, such as China and India, are exempt from round one of the Protocol because they are
seen as developing countries with more important issues to deal with. Secondly, Kyoto allows
some industrialized countries, such as Russia and New Zealand, to make no cuts, and even
permits some places, like Iceland, to emit more greenhouse gasses. The protocol will be
unsuccessful and ineffective if every country is not on board. Finally, Canada will need to provide

A Narrative Essay On Nazi Solder
Alexander Betancourt Feb, 24 2017 Period 3 Night Essay I am Adelchi Schmidt a Nazi solder. I

be a long and painful journey of them and most of them will not last the trip. They will all be
unloaded at the camp and then placed to stay for a short time until we killthem. The sight of all the

I was loading Jews on the train one of them tried to fight it. We told him to stopor he would be

Tikki Davi Theme
Good vs. Evil the Obvious Claim for Rikki Tikki Tavi
Theme is a central message of a story, it also can be expressed by a generalization, or by a
general statement about humans or someone s life. It s overall the most important part of the story.
I am confident the theme of this story is good versus evil. I know that Rudyard Kipling wrote
Rikki Tikki Tavibecause in the story evil snakes bully other animals in the garden, as well as the
family. The gigantic snakes pick on the tiny mongoose. The good is represented by the bravery
found in Rikki tikki. He builds up enough courage to fight the gigantic cobra, the cobra is as big as
the Cubs stadium. I can see where some people view the theme as survival, because the antagonist
and protagonist are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The antagonist was being selfish when she made Nag go an try to kill Rikki tikki, she was
thinking of herself and herself only. In this short story it states that Nagaina left Nag when it was
her plan she told Nag to kill Rikki tikki and his family. For determined to harm others the story
clearly states that Nagaina. You warned Rikki tikki, I would have to kill him. I thought that was a
skilled quote of her showing the reader that Nagaina was determined to kill Rikki tikki.
An alternative claim might be, the bigger one doesn t always win. Rikki tikki battled the two
cobras that were bigger than him. He came out with a win, Chuchundra was frightened he was
gonna get killed by Rikki tikki. He was frightened because he saw how little Rikki tikki was and
he was able to kill Nag and Nagaina. Chuchundra was even frightened to run out into the middle of
the floor and face Rikki tikki at Teddy s house.
It is clear that the theme in this short story is good versus evil. The theme in this story helps us
know that this story isn t about a mongoose and a snake! It is however, about bullying and good
versus evil. It is stated in this short story that Rikki tikki stuck up for his family and friends. One
time I saw someone bully a boy that was younger than him, and the younger kid conquered. That s
how I can relate to good versus

Treaty Of Versailles
Treaties are formally concluded and ratified agreement between countries which are solutions to
solve bigger problems. Most of them contain promising resolutions, but sometimes they do not
succeed in solving the conflict. When a treaty does not encompass the smart solution, the problem
can deteriorate. The Treaty of Versailles
did not achieve its intended purpose which led to further
suffering, conflict, and combat. Beginning in the summer of 1914 and lasting four long years,
World War I, was a revolutionary war between the Allies, Central Powers, and Japan. Militarism,

Should Hospitals Test Pregnant Women for Drug Use Without...
Should hospitals test pregnant women for drug use without their consent?
Hospitals, during their normal course of treatment should test pregnant women for drugs of any
type, whether legal or not. Of course, the patient should be informed of such testing, but consent
should not be required. Findings of illegal drugs should be used to educate and treat the mother for
an addiction rather than informing law enforcement of such an activity.
Hospitals are in the business of treating people s ailments and promoting health. Reporting of illegal
drug use should be left to law enforcement. An exception to the rule is if the illegal activity is
personally witnessed by hospital staff. In cases of pregnancy, the hospital s duty and obligation is ...

This is why hospitals must use drug abuse information gained by testing to educate and treat the
addiction. The good that such education and treatment not only benefits mother and child but
ripples throughout the entire community and economy.
Hospitals also have a duty and obligation to protect the mother s right to privacy. Releasing medical
and treatment information without their consent is a violation of HIPAA, Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act, and of the Privacy Rule that protects mother s personal health
information from being disclosed, again without consent. Hospitals are to be in compliance of the
law but not to enforce it. That should be left to law enforcement to handle. Disclosure to law
enforcement without consent may also be a violation of the mother s 4th Amendment right, the
right against unreasonable search and seizure. Again, the mother has the right to privacy; to be
secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures ... ,
in this case, their medical information and treatment.
Speaking of law enforcement, law enforcement may prosecute the mother of a crime that has not
been directly witnessed. Use of illegal drugs is not being condoned, but law enforcement must have
first hand knowledge of it to act. Prosecution may serve as a disservice as well. Imprisonment and
punishment only

My Ananotating Style
I decided to annotate pages 2 and 3 from our Writing Analytically textbook because the contents
of those two pages helped me grasp the importance of analyzing information more. Since the copy
of the textbook that I have is an e book, I was originally going to annotate them on my computer.
But I realized that my annotations on my laptop were very restricted, and were not as in depth as I
would like them to be, so I decided to print out both pages and annotate them the old fashioned way.
My annotating style doesn t have as much structure in comparison to the techniques that others
incorporate, but it has proven fruitful for me so far. To annotate, I used a couple of different items.
Among these are blue and pink pens, and a yellow highlighter.

Exercise Relieves Anxiety Stress And Depression Fitness...
Company Information Exercise Relieves Anxiety Stress and Depression fitness center is a
family owned business that was formed in 2009. ERASD Fitness Center grew out of a desire to
help family members suffering from depression, anxiety and stress through exercise routines.
Without certain medical credentials we felt useless but knew we had to do something that
would be beneficial in helping the mind, and body of loved ones dealing with those sort of
issues. We started out as a small group of instructors with a degree of professionalism in the field
of fitness, medicine and management. It began in the basement of our family home and
eventually took over most of the 4 bed room house with fitness classes and private mentoring
sessions. We began teaching life coach classes coupled with body strong techniques for strength,
weight training and low impact exercises as a means of providing some constructive mentoring
time with the youth in our family who were suffering with this illness. They all had one common
denominator and that was they were bored. This boredom often lead to them making wrong
choices. Life coach classes focus on helping those discover what is important and the awareness of
making right choices that can lead to a more positive and constructive life. Powerful evidence
suggest that exercise interactions can have substantial effects on mood, lifting everyday bad moods
and feelings of stress, as well as offering treatment effects for diagnosed depression that

Byzantine Empire Religion
Byzantine The important thing about the Byzantine Empire is that it prospered for another 1000
years after the fall of Rome. The Roman Empire was split into the Byzantine Empire(East Roman
Empire) by Diocletian to make it easier to rule the huge territory. The Emperor Constantine moved
the capital to Constantinople, a city where many trade routes pass through. As a result,
Constantinople was a rich and prosperous city and so was the empire. Emperor Justinian made a
set of laws for all in the empire to follow called the Justinian Code. It covered almost every topic
such as robberies, marriage, wills, and etcetera. Later in 1054, the Great Schism occurred splitting
Christianity into the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church which was used in
the Byzantine Empire. But the important thing about the Byzantine Empire is that it prospered for
another 1000 years after the fall of Rome.

  • 2. Isabel Allende Magical Realism Magical Realism: a genre of literature that blends realistic elements with magical elements to create magical realism. This writing technique made famous in Latin American and inspired the work of Isabel Allende and her collection of short stories The stories of Eva Luna Allende s use of magical realism in Walima gave a magical twist to a seemingly normal reality. An example of this would be on page. 131 when the young Ila girls was introduced her tribe known among the people were thought of as ...the people of gentle heart... It hurt young Walima to see the girl lying there ...tied by one ankle to a chain staked in the ground... she looked like a lizard and her bones ...clicked like a small stones in a river. The text uses magical realism to describe just how horrible her current condition was. In the short story Phantom Palace on page 300 when describing the Indians, they used magical realism to depicted them as Always hiding, like shadows...speaking in whispers... Then in The School Teachers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author gave it a very magical description ...transformed the dwelling into a fossil of prehistoric dimensions, an enormous beast... Another type of magical realism is making sense of two separate realities: the conquered and the conqueror. Ines s is conquered by her love by him that she never moved on or found another lover. Riad halabi was conquered and the conqueror, after the death of Ines son he acted as ,,,if he were a member of the family... so he s the conqueror here but hes the conquered in the end by ...the death of the school teacher Ines s freed us... • 3. Arguments Against Therapeutic Cloning For many years there has been a large controversy over the use of cloning for therapeutic and reproductive purposes. The argument against therapeutic cloning is that creating an exact replica of one s self all for the use of harvesting its parts is considered killing another human being. However, some people are for this use so that they can survive as long as they can, and use the clones materials as a way to cure disease or heal injuries. On the other hand, reductive cloningalso has two sides, for and against. People who believe that reproductive cloning is okay, want to create another version of themselves just to either have themselves as a baby or replace a loved one. But, people who are against reproductive cloning believe that it is a selfish or unreasonable act to have one birth a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people fawn over the idea of cloning themselves and to have a replica of themselves be birthed by a surrogate mother. However, I believe that parents who are selfish would use the advantages of having a baby clone of themselves will overuse the power, and distinguish the rights of the baby. Since parents have legal right over medical decisions for the child, there is nothing from preventing them from harvesting their own child for their own good. I may be completely against reproductive cloning, however, some people and/or parents feel as if having a clone of a lost one will make up for their absence. Recreating someone doesn t mean that it is the same as the original because, with different external impacts, a clone can easily have different personalities, feelings, and memories. Therefore technically trying to bring back someone back, will be emotionally unsuccessful. With the technology that our world has today, reproductive cloning is absolutely possible and has been done before, but I believe that it will damage the human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lesson Description Of What You And The Students Will Do Essay Lesson Description (Overall description of what you and the students will do) I will start the class by showing a YouTube video or two to provide the context of our reading to students. To start off the lesson, I will have a powerpoint projecting the three new vocabulary words, martyr , cadaver and demonstration up on screen and I will make students learn these new words and ask them to jot down the definitions in their notebooks. I will also review the academic language at the beginning to make sure students are fully equipped and ready to dive into the reading seamlessly. After this, I will provide handouts of Persepolis chapter #4 to students and ask them to read the text on their own and understand the characters. Next, I will ask students to form a group a write a description and construct a picture of a specific word, as a part of the formative assessment. I would walk around the class to make sure students are not simply copying what has been taught and are not making major errors. At this point, I will ask specific groups of students to discuss and debrief their interpretation of the definitions they have come up with and share a common response as a group. I will ask each group to share the description as well as the picture with the rest of the class. This way, students will be able to learn and imbibe all the vocabulary words and their meanings. As a teacher, I would want to make sure that students are coming up with responses within the parameters of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During these important developmental stages humans are incredibly inclined to absorb their environment and the social norms of those surrounding them. However, nature versus nurture is the theory I which debates whether humans are more impacted by their genetics or how they were raised. I am exceptionally interested in the development of children and how their environment and genetics impact them as adults. I chose this specific topic because I am also interested in the past of violent adults and how they arrived at the place they currently are mentally. Within this essay, evidence will be prevented... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is damaging to society because early signs of violent habits can be ignored or not taken care as well. Unsurprisingly, most serial killers have experienced a childhood filled with various amounts of violence or abuse. Violence and abuse can be detrimental to the development of a child, especially during their sensitive stages. Sensitive stages are when a child is more apt to learn something and strengthen their brain. The reason these stages are so detrimental are because the social norms learned during this time become habitual. Abuse can have a large spectrum. Abuse can be defined as neglect throughout childhood, whether that is emotional, physically, or both. Abuse can also be violent acts toward the child or a spouse. Violence can vary from sexual abuse to physical abuse or both. These factors are the foundations of a child who may have violent tendencies when they grow into adulthood. Secondly, children with an uninvolved family environment are especially inclined for a violent future. The reasoning behind this statement expressed by the authors is because the children are often forced to undergo the role of the caretaker when they are young. This causes a difficult childhood and can cause the yearn for revenge. This yearn for revenge can often become violence. In Lois Lowry s book, The Giver , Jonas longs for a life away from his perfect community. He lived his whole life in the community, but like most residents of it, he doesn t even know half of the secrets, concerning the life outside the community. Each December, there is a ceremony for each age, and at each ceremony you get something. Jonaswas turning twelve, and he was receiving his occupation for the rest of his life. He has shown all the qualities that a Receiver must have: Jonas s assigned job, was the most respected position in the community. He meets The Giver, who was the former receiver of memories. He shares every kind of memories with him from a simple sled ride to the painful memory of warfare and hate. These themes coincide with the themes from, Ermo which was directed by Zhou Xiaowen. These two films have multiple similarities as well as differences; these similarities and differences of the two films are especially embodied in the two respective female protagonists. As you will notice there is an emphasis on genderroles, which plays an immense part in each film. Qiu Ju, which was played by the prominent actress Gong Listarred in, The Story of Qiu Ju. In a way this is a given since everybody in China celebrates the Chinese festivities in the same way. In both films, the women s ambitions lead them to make regular trips from their rural village to town, necessitating a clash with forces of modernization on the respective forms of government bureaucracy. (Lu, T., 1998, 2006) To take things a bit further, Qiu Ju sells her red chili peppers to make money as Ermo sells her twisty noodles, this shows both of these woman taking advantage of the free market economy. Another similar topic of interest was the children in the movie. Again, the gender of children was discriminated by how males were favored over females. This is of course due to the fact that the male would be able to carry on the family line, while the female would not be able to. The reason why Qiu Ju s husband was kicked in the groin was for saying that the village political head could only breed hens, it was said with such condescending tone that clearly displayed how males are favored over females. On the contrary, Ermo taunts her neighbor about the virility of her husband since he has not been able to produce a male yet. • 9. Theme Of Innocence In The House On Mango Street The House on Mango Street uses three vignettes to state that innocence shelters children from the extreme truth of the adult world. To begin, in The First Job , an older man unexpectedly forces himself on Esperanza: I thought I would because he was so old and just as I was about to put my lips on his cheek, he grabs my face with both hands and kisses me hard on the mouth and doesn t let go (Cisneros 55). Esperanza s innocence allowed her to kiss an old man on the cheek for his birthday because she could not imagine anything inappropriate occurring. However, the man grabs [her] face with both hands and doesn t let go . This violent action shatters the innocence that has hidden Esperanza from the adult truth. Next, Esperanza witnesses how Tito and the boys treat Sally in The Monkey Garden : One of Tito s friends said you can t get the keys back unless you kiss us and Sally pretended to be mad at first but she said yes (Cisneros 96). The adult game played angers Esperanza as the boys use Sally to their advantage and Sally [pretends] to be mad but still willingly complies. Esperanza, unlike Sally, sees the situation as wrong because of her innocence, but when she attempts to save Sally, the boys laugh at her. Embarrassed, Esperanza is exposed to an adult type of game and now feels confused from this break in her innocence. Finally, Esperanza completely loses her innocence after being sexually assaulted at the carnival: You re a liar. They all lied. All the books and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Othello Prejudice And Prejudice Discrimination At It s Finest Racism and Sexism are two extremely prominent problems that have been occurring for many years. Many people are prejudice towards others who are not the same as them. Today we have come very far in order to limit discrimination, although there are still many places and people that are sexist and racist. In the three texts I read this term Othello, Snow Falling on Cedars and Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) there is a direct link to either racism, sexism or even both. These texts were all set in past times except for Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) which had components of the story that were set in today s time. We are going to explore the similarities of discrimination between these three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This playwright shows us how people today discriminate against women particularly seen in the views on Desdemona s character. Academe believes that you re a doomed and helpless victim. (2.2). Constance tells Desdemona this and instantly Desdemona is enraged by the fact people think this of her. We are exposed to a side of Desdemona in this play that we may have not picked up on entirely in Othello. Constance opens our eyes to the fact that Desdemona is a strong and capable character and not the innocent and helpless character that she is made out to seem. You are magnificent! Othello should make you his lieutenant. You re capable of greatness, Desdemona. (2,2). Because Desdemona is never given a real voice in Othello her character is watered down and her true colours are not shown. Readers are sexist against Desdemona because she is a woman and in those times women were considered to be much less powerful and important than men. One of the best ways to analyze the changing culture of a society is by examining the progression of its laws. The laws governing marijuana have varied widely throughout the history of the United States. Tracking the path of laws regarding marijuana is a demonstrable example of social change; those laws having gone from one extreme to the other and back. There has been a fundamental change in cultural attitude regarding the legalization of marijuana. Examples of this shift can be seen by examining the history of marijuana before it was illegal, why the laws changed to make in illegal (even a felony), the change in attitude, the racial aspect, modern legislation,... The fear and prejudice about the Mexican immigrants became associated with marijuana. Anti marijuana campaigns were initiated in the 1920s for many reasons. Newspaper industry executive, William Randolph Hearst, felt threatened that the supply of hemp, which was a cheaper and stronger fiber than paper, would undercut paper prices. Hearst, in addition to being a newspaper executive, had financial holdings in timber, the main component of paper. He used negative propaganda published in his newspapers to create public fear. The claim that Mexicans were committing crimes and attributing it to their marijuana use was a result of the propaganda, shifting the cultural attitude against marijuana. By the 1930s. unemployment caused by the Great Depression, increased the outrage toward the Mexican immigrants, as they usurped ever shrinking number of American jobs. The fact that the Mexicants were associated with marijuana use resulted in a negative public impression. In 1936 the infamous anti marijuana movie Reefer Madness was released. When I wrote my first journal entry, I talked about how I did not know much about the Drag community besides watching RuPaul s Drag Race and visiting different bars and clubs like the Parliament House and Pulse to see different Queens perform once in a while. After this course, I have learned about how the Drag community is quite diverse and experimental. A few of the topics that have changed my perspective on Drag, and the community were looking at Drag Representations in Film, Charles Busch, and Dragula. When first learning about Drag Representations in Film, I have seen the Hedwig and the Angry Inch film adaptation, as well as, Mrs. Doubtfire. I always knew that for the most part there were usually cisgender people representing transgender characters, but it never clicked that there has been almost no representation of legitimate transgender actors in film. There are some moments that we discussed during the course that had an impact on my opinion of the representation in film. While going through the slides, there was a moment where even though cisgender actors plays transgender characters, performers like Felicity Huffman made sure to at least mention the importance of the transgender community, whereas Jared Leto did not care to mention a word about the community. Even though Mr. Leto may not have said anything, this spoke volumes to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To an eighth grade Gabrielle Norris, dressing like a princess and standing on a football field to be recognized would have been preposterous. An aliquot part means a proper quotient of a number. According to Webster s dictionary, the term perfect number was first used in the 14th century. The discovery of such numbers was lost in prehistory. The smallest perfect number is six. It is the sum of its divisors one, two, and three. Other perfect numbers are twenty eight, 128, and 496. In the paragraphs below I will talk about the history of the perfect number and Euclid s theorem and the founder of the perfect number. The first four perfect numbers were known to the ancients Greeks over 2,000 years ago. Some cultures back then gave mystic interpretations to the numbers and thought they were magic. The first four perfect numbers were six, twenty eight, 496, and 8,128. Of the two dozen perfect numbers now known, all of them are even numbers. If there are any odd perfect numbers they are quite big, are well over 300 digits long, and have multiple prime factors. The ancient Christian scholar Augustine said, ‟That God could have created the world in an instant but he chose to do it in a perfect number of six days. The main argument in this essay is the depiction of women as objects in the Nouveau style and how they were highly idealized and depicted very differently than they appeared in real life. The intended audience for this essay is women. The author was able to successfully argue and prove their thesis through historical perspective, detailed analyses of the depiction of women as objects, and the use of relevant primary sources. Thompson gives a brief description of what was happening during the time of the Art Nouveau style and how it affected the depiction of women. During this time, suffrage was beginning to take hold in society and women were beginning to embrace their own individualism and began taking their lives into their own hands. The author argues that the depiction of women as highly idealized objects was a reaction to this movement and was an attempt by artists to resist the changes in society. The depiction of women as fragile, helpless objects was to reinforce the belief that women were inferior to men. • 38. Echo And Narcissus Analysis Comparing Tragedies: Echo vs. Narcissus Ovid displays an impressive grasp of language in his poem Narcissus and Echo which allows him to address many classic themes, the chief of these being the theme of unfulfilled love and the suffering it brings. The most notable instances of this type of suffering are Echo and Narcissus transformations; Echo withers away until she is naught but a voice, and Narcissus is trapped in place until he eventually transforms into a flower. Upon finishing this tale, the reader is left with much to consider, including the question: which fate is worse? Of course, both fates are certainly cruel, but they given the specific themes and diction that Ovid uses when describing each pseudo death, Echo s punishment seems far less dehumanizing than Narcisssus ; whereas Narcissus is completely objectified by his transformation into a beautiful flower, Echo at least maintains the power of voice. Given Ovid s diction during Echo s introduction, it is clear that her fate is directly tied to the power of speech and voice. Ovid calls her resounding Echo as if this is her title, and the use of the word resounding is very important (line 26). Why not call her loud or huge or any of the other synonyms tied to the word resounding ? One can only assume that Ovid wanted to make use of the word s other definition: resonant and reverberant. By essentially introducing her as Reverberant Echo and mentioning that her speech was strange , Ovid immediately alerts the reader to what is both Echo s downfall and her saving grace: Words have power. Echo over uses words in her favor when she d talk and talk,/ to give her sister nymphs just enough/ time to slip away before they were found out, by Juno (lines 38 40), and eventually, her speech turns on her when she is able to do little more than repeat Narcissus words back to him despite how much she wishes to sing his praises. In the end, however, Echo s final punishment is to become no more than a voice, no more than a literal echo. Surely, this fate is cruel, but perhaps it is not completely unforgiving; though it is very little consolation, Echo at least maintains the power of voice, and however diluted this power might be, Ovid writes, ... Today s class discussion was about Rational Theories, which states that individuals make reasonable decisions and apply them to their daily life activities. Individual make these decisions based on their best self interest. The major points of the Rational Theory are: Routine Activities Theory, Lifestyle Theory and Rational Choice Perspective. Routine activities theory states that the circumstances of an individual s life is mainly decided by the daily pattern of social interaction or activities. Therefore, depending on these routine activities criminal offenses could ascend or descent (Williams and McShane, 2013, p. 238). Accordingly, routine activities theory is basically the type of routine a person keeps, based on his/her circumstances. Since everyone has different routine activities, some individuals will be more prone to criminal attacks such as robbery, rape, murder, etc. as discussed in class.
