Project proposal title and date:
My strange life
Main area of activity:
Video game
Rationale:
Across the course of the year, I have created a handful of very different products. Of these, the
most notable and relevant would have to be my previous video game work. I have worked on two
separate projects for a video game and an advergame which both had successes and weaknesses
of there own and a level of enjoyment to them. Whist developing my advergame I focused greatly
on the visual aspect of the game world and continued to refine this going into my second project.
The design process and visuals are key parts to a video game that I feel more experienced in and I
definitely want to put a great deal of my time and focus on how things look. Alongside this I also
have further refined my Photoshop skills through a print based magazine project and better
learned how to edit, cut and colour correct videos in adobe premiere. Both of these programs will
be useful to me in creating my video game so a better understanding of both is exceptional.
Project Concept:
For this project I would like to create an RPG adventure video game that centres around a group of
gamers all being taken into the virtual world. Over the course of a few months people have been
mysteriously disappearing and no one can explain why. The first to go was a friend of the earlier
mentioned group and the player soon discovers that their friend and all the other missing people
were stuck in a video game dimension. Each person will govern their own “dimension” shown on
the map with the player following one of the characters through each dimension accompanied by
there friend who has been missing for months and has developed a plan of escaping. The project
will showcase the exploration of just one of the areas however all will be visible at some point
through implementation of a player map. Costumes for NPC’s as well as enemies / enemy types
will be vary based on the dimension that the player is currently in. The player will also be able to
interact with characters, item, containers etc. as well as view and sort their inventory and
participate in combat with enemies through a specific combat UI system. Effectively I would want
the audience to have a form of escapism in this game and enjoy the gameplay aspects whilst also
connecting to the characters and stories presented.
Much research will need to be completed in order to achieve the best result. I should focus a lot on
what makes other RPG adventures successful and dedicate a lot of time into researching the
different functions, mechanics and systems in these games to seamlessly craft and integrate
something similar into my own work. I should also look into the visual aspects of these games and
decide how certain costumes / environments can evoke an emotion or thought onto the player and
how that effects their overall perception of the world and narrative around them. It may also be
useful to study the narrative of certain games and see how developers make links between
characters and plot lines to keep the player engaged.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to keep a weekly log of my work tracking my progress, developmental choices and
challenges as well as collect peer and tutor feedback across the course of the project. Alongside
this I will also conduct a final evaluation to self reflect on different qualities of the work as well as
how well I approached the project. Being able to self reflect is important to progressing and
creating better products in the future

Week Tasks to be Completed: Specific Tasks
1 Initial Ideas and Proposal  Create mood boards (multiple if possible)
 Analyse and explain the mood board(s) Influence
 Collect Together Key influences for the project
 Collect key words / descriptors that tie with the
project
 Propose the idea
- Name the project
- Display a rationale
- Convey the project concept
- Explain how evaluation will be tracked
 Collect together sources for a bibliography
- (Primary and secondary)
2 Research  Collect research with images and notes on
multiple different existing product
- Find an image of the product
- Collect information on what the product does
- Identify key features of the product
- Explain what make the product successful /
influential
 Analyse the research
- What are common features of the researched
products
- Consider what will be used in the final project
 Conduct Secondary audience research
 Conduct Primary audience research
 Conduct any relevant subject research
- Could be locational?
3 Research  Finish Audience Research (If necessary)
 Begin Practical research
 This could consist of:
 Experimenting with techniques
 Learning how to use equipment
 Looking at production processes
 Create a bibliography for the primary / secondary
research
Developmental research and idea development should be
clearly presented and help shape the experiments and
overall project (continuing into pre production).
4 Pre-production & Planning  Create a summary for the project
- Who is the audience?
- What is being made?
Proposal
4
- Why is it being made? (Purpose)
- How will it be seen?
 Sound effect list
 Music list
 Style sheet or other visual planning
 Scene plan
 Thorough production schedule/ Action Plan
 Consider making a storyboard to get a clear
image of how the animation will look.
 List any necessary resources
 Write up a contingency plan
 Write a risk assessment
 Create a production schedule
5 Production  Begin production on the game world. All focus
should go into getting as much of the world
established in the first week as possible.
6 Production  Continue development on the main area of play
 Design the characters.
 Begin work on the combat system
7 Production  Continue to flesh out the world
 Finish the combat system
 Add the map feature
 Add the inventory feature

8 Production  Finish the game world and any add on areas if
there is time
 Finish the character dialogue
 Create special effects for the in game world and
the combat UI respectively.
 Create the boss character and combat (if not
done with previous implementation of these
features)

- Research
- Planning
- Time management
- Technical qualities
- Aesthetic qualities
- Audience Appeal
 Collect peer feedback
 Analyse peer feedback
- What is agreed with
- What is disagreed with
