Flipped learning is a pedagogical approach where direct instruction moves from group learning spaces to individual learning spaces. This allows group class time to be used for interactive learning activities guided by the teacher. There are four pillars of flipped learning: a flexible environment; a student-centered learning culture; intentional content; and the educator's role in facilitating. In a flipped classroom, homework such as watching lecture videos is done at home, while class time focuses on hands-on exercises, discussions, and assessing student understanding with the teacher's guidance. While implementation varies, flipped learning allows for more student control and application of concepts. Careful preparation by the teacher is needed, along with support for students adapting to the model.
