Authority in the Public Services
Authority in the public services
Authority means the right or power to enforce rules or give orders. To do this they need legislations to
enforce their laws, to function properly the uniformed pubic services need to have legislations.
The extent of authority relates to the limit of control held by an individual or organisation. The limit of
control is governed by the job description of the role, as well as the jurisdiction, with authority coming
either from statute or company policy.
An example would be Her Majesty s Chief Inspector of Prisons who has the authority under the
Ministry of Justice to inspect and report to the Government on the treatment and conditions for all
prisoners in England and Wales. The authority of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Referent power we do what we are asked because we can identify with the source of influence; we
may be attracted to them or respect them.
Position
When we talk about someone being in a position of authority we usually mean that they hold a certain
rank or status within society or within an organisation such as the public services. There are several
ways in which a person could find himself or herself in a position of authority. For example, a priest
has the authority of the church while a mother or father has parental authority over children. In the
uniformed public services, positions of authority come with promotion. An officer may be promoted
because of certain achievements and special attributes, such as experience in the service, good
character, knowledge of the job, dedication, self discipline and the respect of one s colleagues. If you
join the uniformed public services and are placed in a position of authority, you may lawfully
command team members, who recognise your authority and their duty to obey those legitimate
commands. When authority is legitimate, there is no need to influence or use power. Indeed, if a senior
officer were unable to gain the respect of a team member by command alone, then there would be no
recognisable authority.
For someone to be placed in a position of authority they should have power and

Canada s New Laws Regarding Doctor Assisted Suicide
According to the Criminal Code of Canada, physician assisted suicide is illegal in Canada. However,
due to the changing minds of Canadians and their values over a course of time, Canada created new
laws that directed the act of assisted suicide by a physician. However, it is an ongoing debate whether
these laws are problematic or beneficial. Canada s new laws regarding doctor assisted suicide are
effective because patients can die with dignity, there are benefits to the healthcare system and there
will be less emotional turmoil for patients and their families. To begin, patients can die with dignity.
Dying with dignity is the philosophical concept that a terminally ill individual should be allowed to
die naturally and comfortably instead of experiencing a life of deep unconsciousness prolonged by
mechanical support systems. (Death with Dignity) In 1993, Sue Rodriguez, a sufferer of ALS,
believed that the time and manner of her death should not be determined by her illness or by the law.
She expressed that it should be legal for a physician to end her life for her at a time she has chosen.
(Fenton) Rodriguez took her case to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, she argued that Section
241(b) of the Criminal Code, everyone who aids or abets a person in committing suicide commits an
indictable offence, violates her rights in the Charter under Section 7, that everyone has the right to life,
liberty, and security, 12, that everyone has the right not to be subjected to any

A. E Housman s To An Athlete Dying Young
The poem To an Athlete Dying Young is about, as you can guess, the passing of a young athlete. A.E
Housman, the author, starts the poem off with remembering when the athlete had a huge victory at a
town race and how all the people of the town were applauding him. Not too long after we find out that
the athlete has passed. When this poem was published South Africa was fighting in the second Boer
war. A.E Housman was very big on soldiers being prepared before going to war. Unfortunately during
the second Boer war they weren t. It had been said that the solider weren t physically or mentally
prepared for the war. Throughout this poem you can see how he reflected his feeling about the Boer
war. All through the poem A.E Housman uses several different literary devices such as imagery,
rhyme, and mood to help the reader comprehend the poem better and have visual images of what s
going on in their head. A.E Housman main theme that I interpreted was that greatness does not last
long. All through this poem Housman shows great forms of imagery in it. You first see it in lines five
through eight when he says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This poem uses a steady rhyme scheme of AABB. By using this type of rhyme scheme it helps the
poem flow much better and for some people it s easier to read. The rhyming helps the words come
together and helps keep the poem in harmony. The way the rhyme scheme ties in with the mood of the
poem is that it lets the reader know what is coming next. From the title we knew that the athlete was
going to die, however with the rhyming in this poem we can kind of see how it happens and how
everyone is affected by it. Overall the rhyming used in this poem helps form the imagery in the poem
and flow better. I feel that if Housman didn t use the rhyme scheme he did that it wouldn t make much
sense. This one fit perfectly for this poem because of the emphasis it has on certain

Early Detection Of Breast Cancer
In women worldwide, more than 1 million women were diagnosed in 2012, making the breast cancer
the most commun cancer (1). In United States, breast cancer represent 29% of new cases expected to
be diagnosed in 2015 of all cancer, and is one of the most common cancer diagnosed after skin cancer.
It is also unfortunatley the second cause of death cancer within women, and 17% death cases are
expected in 2015 for invasive breast cancer (IBC), among the new cases (2). Among the 61% of the
breast cancer diagnosed at a confined stage, the 5 year survival rate is up to 99%, whereas it can drops
to 25% when metastasis can be seen at time of diagnosis(2). The early detection of breast cancer is
made by a clinical breast exam and a mammography for most of women, and has shown to reduce
mortality since many years (3) with an incidence rate staying stable among women, which is the
results of improvement of technics of detection for early diagnosis and treatement (2).
Breast cancer can be categorized by many ways such as clinical features, histologic type, or
expression of tumor markers. Invasive breast cancer has two major histological types, invasive ductal
carcinoma (IDC), which is the most common one and the invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC). ILC is
more difficult to detect than IDC because of subtle lesion characteristics(4)(5). Among breast cancer,
20% are breast carcinoma in situ which is realtively common with more than 60000 cases expected to
be diagnosed in 2015 (2). The most

The Nation Of Islam And African Americans
The Nation of Islam was founded by Wali Farad in Detroit, Michigan in 1930. While Farad is credited
with the foundation, most of the teachings came from a different movement. It evolved from the
Moorish Temple of Science founded by Timothy Drew (Source 1). Drew preached that Islam was the
correct faith for African Americans. Drew also preached that African Americans were superior to
Caucasians. The Nation of Islam, along with being a religious movement, was a movement for
change. They wanted to raise awareness and create racial pride within the African American
community (Source 1). The Nation of Islam wanted to improve the lives of African Americans,
however, how they wanted to achieve that improvement was unacceptable. The Nation of ... Show

Blood Libel is the belief that Jews kidnap children and use their blood in their rituals. The controlling
of the media and finances resemble Hitler s argument that Jews were after world domination. These
two examples of the Nation of Islam slandering Christianity and Judaism are only two of the many
examples of slander. The Nation of Islam created an us vs. them mentality. This mentality is
dangerous and can have disastrous effect on society. The hatred can lead to conflicts and wars. Along
with denouncing any religion other than Islam, they denounce anyone that is not African American.
This is the second reason that the movement was unacceptable. The Nation of Islam used the
teachings of Timothy Drew from the Temple of Science (Source 3). Drew preached that African
Americans were the superior race. He especially focused on their superiority over the Caucasians.
Drew also preached that the Caucasians were doomed because Jesus was a black man who attempted
to redeem the Black Moabites, only to be executed by the white Romans (Source 3). These teachings
influenced the Nation of Islam greatly and lead to their belief in African American superiority. It is
important for African Americans to feel a sense of pride, however, that should not lead one to believe
that they are better than others based off of their skin tone. This prejudice leads to discrimination of
other based on skin color. Instead of falling

The Low Coefficient Of The Lichen Population
Discussion:
The overall variation of the mean moisture content of tree bark, and the mean distribution of the
Lichen population in relation to the increasing height of the tree from the ground level is shown in
Figure 1. It was observed that there is a remarkable reduction in the mean moisture content of the bark
as the height of the tree increased. Hence there is a strong relationship between the mean moisture
content and the tree height as supported by the high coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.96136).
The mean moisture content from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.00 metre has a percentage
reduction of 18% (Refer to Appendix VI for equation), and this value increases to 24% from the tree
height of 0.50 metres to 1.50 metres. Fielding (1952) on his research on Monterey pine trees, also
found that some trees showed a progressive decrease in the moisture content, as the tree height
increased. The reason for this maybe due to the fact that the lower parts of the trees have a closer
proximity to the soil surface. In this location the organic matter content of the top layer of soil is
relatively high due to seasonal tree leaves deposition of perennial trees and a good cover of grass
surface, this creates a higher moisture retention of top soil therefore lower parts of the trees get more
moisture contact. Claire Shi (2016), conducted a similar research on trees at a different area at the
Victoria Esplanade. The results from her research show that the moisture

Narrative Style And Film Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Grand Budapest Hotel revolves around Europe of the 1930s and 1960s while it was in time of the
war, through the adventures of The Grand Budapest Hotel s doorman Zero and the Hotel manager
Gustave. The saga is linked to a burglar and a Renaissance painting, a great family s wealth war, and
the sudden change of war in Europe. It reflects the vicissitudes of political history in Europe for half a
century. This article will analyze The Grand Budapest Hotel from two aspects: artistic style and film
theme.
I. Artistic style
The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a strong
personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a deliberately
orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour is often through
Deadpan expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the restraint and slight
change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props and sets of his films are
often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but
many new elements are added.
1. Narrative mode
In terms of the overall structure of the film, this film breaks through the previous single line narrative
mode, using four layers of nested narrative structure, layer by layer, and without any lack of
independence. The first level is a little girl went to the cemetery to worship writer s grave, she put the
key to hanging on the writer statue, and took out a book called The Grand Budapest Hotel , she turned
to the end of the book, the book was printed with pictures of writer; the second level is the story of the
girl who began to pay tribute to the author in the cemetery. The third level is in The Grand Budapest
Hotel, where old Zero tells his story to a young man. Time and space returned to Zero when Zero was
young, and this began the journey of Zero and Mr. Gustave, this is the fourth level of narrative mode.
Skip the middle specific storyline and go straight to the end. Gustave s last moments are in black and
white. Then, when the writer was young, he ended his conversation with Zero, and the writer was
sitting in the lobby of The Grand

Essay about Policies and Politics in Madagascar
Madagascar is among the countries that are termed as least developed in the world today (United
Nations, 2001). The implementation of trade agreement based on agriculture sector led to sluggishness
in the various market dynamics of the available grains. In addition to this, the quantity of grains was
declining and as a consequence of this, the revenues generated declined at an alarming rate. The
country was therefore obliged to opt for food import. This step was taken as a result of reduction in
the amount of aid granted to the government, and subsequent subsidization of exports. Since
Madagascar could not afford to offer export subsidization, the country s exports were highly affected

The common people were involved in the actual digging of the gem. However, they just received
peanuts from the sale of the stones, while the wealthy would gain enormous cash from the sale of the
same. This was attributed to the fact that, the wealthy had all the necessary connections to
international markets. Despite this, the mining of gem was characterized by myriad negative effects to
the local environment. However, attempts from various non governmental organizations (NGOs) and
donors to challenge the same, were completely blocked by the shadow state that had a very great
influence in Madagascar. Moreover, the mining act is practiced in selected and secured areas thus
limiting the efforts of various national and related international agencies to protect or conserve the
immediate surroundings. On the other side, the potential grounds for gem mining are located in the
secured government areas, and the rainforest zones which are known to have an enormous degree of
biodiversity. Thus many NGOs find it cumbersome to advocate for ecotourism and national parks.
This is attributed to the fact that NGOs are not able to prove to the Government, potential donors, and
various available private business that ecotourism earns more revenue which is sustainable than
carrying out gem mining in the area. The inherent gem mining in the area has resulted to an
overwhelming cultural as well as political impact in the vicinity of the local areas. This

Cellular Respiration And Photosynthesis Similarities
Aerobic cellular respiration and photosynthesis have a myriad of similarities and differences. They are
both alike and different because of the purpose of the processes, how they function, their location, and
the reactants and products for each process.
Cellular respiration and photosynthesis have several differences. In photosynthesis, plants and some
bacteria use light energy, carbon dioxide, and water to produce glucose and oxygen. On the other
hand, cellular respiration is the process in which glucose is broken down and converted into energy,
specifically ATP. Eukaryotes like plants and animals carry out cellular respiration, however, only
plants and some bacteria carry out photosynthesis. Aerobic cellular respiration takes place in the ...

Cellular respiration uses the products of photosynthesis: glucose and oxygen, as reactants to make
ATP. In this process, carbon dioxide and water are produced as waste products. ADP and Pi are also
reactants, but they are made during the stages, like when a phosphate group leaves the ATP we use to
power glycolysis or when carbon bonds are broken. ADP and Pi do not come from photosynthesis.
Plants that carry out photosynthesis also carry out cellular respiration. Heterotrophs that can t produce
their own sugar also can carry out cellular respiration. They obtain glucose by eating autotrophs,
eating what autotrophs made, or other organisms that consumed autotrophs. From there, it breaks
down the glucose. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration is a cycle because it reuses and rebuilds the

Essay on Reconstruction
In 1865, the Civil war was finally brought to an end. The five years of war was the nation s most
devastating and wrenching experience. Although the Union was saved and slavery had ended, the
South being defeated and occupied by union forces was ruined and in a state of disaster. Public
structures, private homes, and farm buildings had been burnt, rail road tracks uprooted, cotton gins
wrecked, and the earth scorched in many sections of the defeated land. The nation s next task was to
rebuild the ruined South and the government s plan to do this is known as Reconstruction.

Abraham Lincoln was assassinated just as the South surrendered in April 1865, and then Andrew
Johnson inherited the problem of Reconstruction. Johnson supported Lincoln s plan after taking office.
Enough Confederates signed these oaths to enable the immediate creation of new governments.
Johnson required that the new states ratify the 13th Amendment freeing the slaves, abolish slavery in
their own constitutions, discard debts incurred while in rebellion, and declare secession null and void.
The Radical Republicans reconstruction plan included the passage of the 13th Amendment and

set up in 1865 to help former slaves and other persons suffering from the effects of the Civil War. This
reconstruction plan also included passage of a Civil Rights bill and the 14th Amendment (all of these

Rapper s Charm Analysis
The starting point of this analysis begins with the 1979 single Rapper s Delight by the Sugarhill Gang,
as it is the first rap song in history to peak in the Billboard Top 40 . During this time, many African
Americans in the Bronx were throwing block parties, thus the need for music that would be suitable
for these occasions . Hence, the theme of this hit single was on partying so it could complement
another form of hip hop: breakdancing. For example, The beat starts getting into your toes. You start

And then damn you start doing the freak uses imagery, mixed in with the positive emotions given off
from the upbeat tempo to encourage the audience to dance to this song. Another example is the line,
But first, I gotta bang bang the boogie to the boogie. Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie ,
which shows us that these lyrics were meant for partying with the word boogie . Also, this song is
quite materialistic in its lyrics. Examples include, I got a Lincoln continental and a sunroof Cadillac

Usa Today Case Summary
Background
USA Today is a national U.S. daily general interest newspaper, the first of its kind. Launched in 1982
by Allen Neuharth, head of the Gannett newspaper chain, it reached a circulation of one million within
a year and surpassed two million in the 1990s. Initially considered gimmicky and insubstantial, it
gradually developed a reputation for higher quality while increasing its circulation and advertising
revenues at a time when few papers were experiencing growth. The features that originally set it apart
are abundant colorful graphics, very brief stories, and a concentration on sports and celebrity, have
influenced other newspapers. To date, USA Today remains the widest circulated print newspaper in
the United States.

Economy woes
The advertising revenue of the company was adversely affected in 2008 because of the economic
recession. The companies faced a lot of losses because of high paper cost and reduced advertising
revenue. This resulted in the shutdown of a number of newspaper companies.

Content
Right now USA Today s content is geared mostly towards male readers. Female readers only make up
30% of their customer base. If USA Today were to give their content a facelift it could generate more
readers not necessarily just women though.
In the beginning USA Today prided themselves on being unique and having fun content in their paper
compared to their competitors. But now they re just trying to be another WSJ with their primary hard
news. USA Today needs to remember that their main demographic is different from WSJ s more
affluent and wealthy demographic. They need to get back to their roots.
Including Fashion and Entertainment sections in their paper could help them achieve the new image
that they need and help them get attention from younger generations and female readers. Yes their
loyal fan base is older but only changing their content a little will allow them to keep their loyal

A Crumbling Nation Essay
For those who do not know much about the Soviet Union, or those intrigued by the almighty Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), the history of the collapse of the Soviet Union is extremely well
documented in Stephen Kotkin s Armageddon Averted: The Soviet Collapse 1970 2000. This
relatively short book provides great insight into the downfall of the Soviet Union, as well as to how it
could potentially have sustained longer than it did by the Soviet elite. A dramatic shift occurred in the
Soviet Union between 1970 and 2000; numerous events and modifications occurred to pave the way
for a long and slow decay, as opposed to a rapid and fervent eruption of a crumble that many may
have expected. Kotkin provides the readers with a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He incorporates various accounts by numerous insiders and senior dignitaries, along with notable
failures by political figures, to elucidate the factors that led to the failure of both Communism and the
Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Kotkin commences by discussing the Arab Israeli War of 1973, as it is a major turning point for the
beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Union. During this time, the Arabs and the Israelis went to war;
because of this, an oil embargo was put forth and prices skyrocketed. Many countries and nations
around the world were struggling to make do on little to no oil, including the two world superpowers.
Tough times were had by all during this time during the Brezhnev era; many resorted to working in
and with the black market in order to make ends meet. As thousands were losing jobs and sinking
more and more into financial woes, the Soviets struck oil in Siberia. A quick shift took place, putting
the Soviet Union as the main oil exporter. The strike of oil led to an abundance of wealth from their

Examples Of Lead By Example Essay
Lead by Example: Reality or Fiction?
Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive good things, and people will be drawn to you.
Mary Lou Retton says, driving home a topic brushed by schools and parents. Happiness is something
that everyone strives for and without a goal so large many things would be completely meaningless.
To some people happiness is an amazing house with cars and money but to others, happiness is a
loving, healthy family, a roof over their heads with clothes and food. When a large figure in society or
even a community shows their beliefs through examples, it is hard not to follow or at least be
interested. When something interesting is going on with hands on parts, or even just a couple jokes it
makes a big difference. In a classroom, the teacher is looked at as the person in charge. For seven
hours a day our younger generations are greatly influenced by five or six people more and more every
day. Do we put too much trust in these people? Many teachers love their jobs and thoroughly enjoy
broadening students horizons through education. In a chemistry class, a teacher can hand out
assignments and require hours of book readings every week over a chapter with a test at the end. With

Water Code Of 1934 Essay
Like the United States early effort with the Rivers and Harbor Act of 1899, Brazil s initial struggle to
control pollution started with the legislative enactment of the water Code of 1934. (Alter, 2012) The
Water Code of 1934 was designed to regulate usage, property rights over water, and setting limitations
over water use. Before this landmark legislation, the demands for water use was overseen by the
Ministry of Energy s National Department of Water and Energy. Due to the fact water was a key
resource in power generation and electricity via hydroelectricity, prior to the Water Code of 1934
power companies had a high degree of control over all aspects that could impact power generation.

During the early 1960 s and late 1970 s, the management of water and sanitation services underwent
several reorganizations to help gap the shortages in public health needs between the economically
sound municipalities and the growing communities without economic solvency. Two key systems
were developed to bridge these gaps; In 1968 The Sanitary Financing System, was created and in 1971
National Water Supply and Sanitation Plan (PLANASA) was established. Under PLANASA,
investment in infrastructure increased significantly as water coverage doubled between 1970 to 1990.
Furthermore, the access to sanitary sewerage systems doubled nationally. During this period, the
PLANASA and other peripherally related governmental organizations were investing over $11 billion
in water and sanitary sewer systems, with the bulk of the funding going towards water quality and
distribution systems. However, turbulent financial times troubled Brazil during the 1980 s and led to a
governmental reorganization which established the Sanitation Secretariat (SNS) under the Ministry of
Social Welfare (MAS) which manages water resources and infrastructure. (Heller,

Athletes College Athletes
Should collegiate athletes get paid? Statistics show that an average college athlete spends 20 hours per
week on their sport (University of Notre Dame). All the time dedicated to their sport takes away time
to complete homework, eat, work, and rest. College athletes should receive compensation for the
amount of time dedicated to their sport, for the amount of revenue brought into the university or
college, to be able to better support themselves and their family and benefit from the profit made by
apparel company contracts with the university or college.
Playing a sport in college, especially at Division 1 schools are very time consuming between
practicing and playing games. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) allows 20 hours
of practice a week for athletes, but practices often last longer ( How do College Athletes... ).
Collegiate athletes often do not have enough time to set aside for their classes. Many of these athletes
are spending more time playing their sport than managing their schoolwork. If the athletes do not
show up to every practice, then they tend to feel uncommitted and disincluded. According to an
NCAA survey on college athletes, the most demanding sports are Division 1 and Division 2 baseball.
Division 1 basketball and football are very demanding as well (O Shaughnessy). All athletes have to
make sure they establish their priorities for their sport and academics. College athletes should finish
their most difficult tasks first, then they can

psychology humanistic psychology began as a reaction to psychoanalysis and behaviorism, which
dominated psychology at the time. Psychoanalysis was focused on understanding the unconscious
motivations that drive behavior while behaviorism studied the conditioning processes that produce
behavior. Humanist thinkers felt that both psychoanalysis and behaviorism were too pessimistic, either
focusing on the most tragic of emotions or failing to take into account the role of personal choice.
Humanistic psychology was instead focused on each individual s potential and stressed the importance
of growth and self actualization. The fundamental belief of humanistic psychology is that people are

Political Economy Of America
INTRODUCTION
The political economy of the United States of America is at a crossroads. Mired in legislative gridlock
due to the polarization of political parties, struggling to fully recover from the global recession
brought on by the collapse of the financial industry, and lagging in comparison to some of our peers in
respect to education standards and social welfare policies, many have begun to predict the decline of
America and have declared the model of classical liberal capitalism defunct.
In previous centuries, our loosely structured economic system, based upon the principles derived from
free market capitalism and individual civil liberties, provided the American economy the flexibility to

Advantages Of Remote Corrosion Monitoring
Advantages of remote corrosion monitoring There are a variety of remote corrosion monitoring
systems that enable maintenance personel and plant operators to get accurate measurements of
corrosion activity wirelessly hence delivering significant cost benefits. The remote solutions collect
and transmit the data from remote as well as hazardous locations and does not require running wires
between the control room and the location. Amongs the benefits of remote corrosion are Almost all
types of corrosion can be monitored Saving on time and costs, the remote corrosion monitoring leads
to more productivity, reliability and profitability. Enables the company to obtain and utilize corroion
data from hazadous location, remote locations or other inaccessible areas due to high cost of wiring.
Majority of the systems and transmitters are easy to install and takes only a few minutes, making it
possible to get the information back to the control systems, quickly. The remote moniroting systems
provides a flexible means to monitor corrosion in applications;  Where it is difficult to reach some of
the parts or areas  Remote locations  There is no access to power  Require frequent reconfiguring

First Solar, Inc. located in Huntington Beach is a design and manufacturing company found in 1999
who produce photovoltaic modules, or solar panels, through the use of thin film semiconductors
(Reuters, para 2). The company however, has a much earlier history than scribed. In 1984, inventor
and owner of Solar Cells, Inc Harold McMaster manufactured solar cells from silicon
(energyandcapital, para 2). However, as silicon became more expensive, McMaster decided to switch
to cadmium telluride. This material was far more inexpensive than silicon which would eventually
lead the company to thrive. So it thrived, as in 1999 the company was purchased by True North
Partners, LLC and was named First Solar, Inc (energyandcapital, para 10). First Solar is the first solar
company to flourish and create new solar innovations. Such as, producing 1 GW of solar electricity in
a single year, breaking the one dollar per watt manufacturing overhead cost, and creating a
photovoltaic module recycling program (FirstSolar, para 2). To put that into perspective clean technica
explains that, 1GW of solar power can power up to 750,000 homes and about 2 coal fired power
plants (Shahan, para 2). To evaluate whether First Solar is a smart investment decision, we will first
take a look at growth profitability of the company along with the corporate responsibility the company
holds. We will also take into consideration energy efficiency as well as their support services. Based

Peer Pressure What is peer pressure? Peer pressure is when people pressure you into things you don t
want to do. Peer pressure has negative and positive effects on people. For example, people could
influence you into doing drugs that you don t want to do by telling you that it would make you look
cool. People could also use peer in a positive way by encouraging you to stop using drugs or even
smoking. Peer pressure can be both negative or positive depending on who you are as a person and the
choices you make in life. Bad peer pressure can consist of everything bad such as friends making you
do drugs and drink alcohol when you don t want to. When people pressure you into doing things you
do not want to do, it can make you lose your confidence not because they did something they didn t
want, it was because they were pressured into doing it. People think if you are not wearing the popular
trend or you aren t attending parties you aren t cool, this makes people give in to peer pressure. The
bad decisions that you do because of peer pressure can haunt you in your future and they will stay
with you the rest of your life. When people give into peer pressure, they aren t worried about the

A Report On The Albuquerque Police Department
The Albuquerque Police Department has shot twice as many people as the police departments in cities
of similar size (Kim). Police officials claim that Albuquerque has a high number dangerous situations
and that firing their weapons is necessary, which hasn t been proven. Many individuals argue that
shooting dangerous suspects is necessary for the police to do their jobs adequately and to protect
themselves, which isn t the case in every situation. Some departments within the Albuquerque Police
Department are in need of reform to prevent the number of fatal police shootings within the city. The
Albuquerque Police Department would highly benefit from reforms geared toward their officers
training. It s clear that there is a problem within the department because of the high number of
shootings perpetrated by police. Compared to other cities around the nation, it becomes evident that
the number of fatal shootings is highly abnormal, and that reform is necessary to prevent that number
from rising even higher. Another factor that proves reform is necessary is that many of the fatally shot
were mentally ill, and not criminals. If police were trained on how to deescalate situations instead of
shoot, it could prevent unnecessary deaths. Police learning to differentiate between situations when
shooting a suspect is required or not could also save the city money. If reform doesn t happen quickly,
it invites more problems. Officers may see that their colleagues aren t being punished

Organizational Development Heralds From The Industrial Era...
In the midst of one of our many design sessions, a member of the team expresses how he s feeling the
sense that he s in this alone , that he doesn t feel any support from the team. With that a stark shift is
felt in the room, both in the way the conversation and the concept under scrutiny is being approached
by everyone at the table away from pure analytical reductionism towards an appreciative approach of
discovering the possibility beyond the potential issues, the basis for innovation in all respects. His
personal experience awoke us to good practice.
(Petousis, Journal 4, 12 May 2015)
Organisational development heralds from the industrial era, and was primarily focussed on efficiency
in working roles, as well as the effective communications for the supply chain to function smoothly
(Beckhard, 1969; Garrow, 2009). In that landscape the realms of personal life and personal experience
were determined as mere distractions from the work at hand. What is being alluded to in the above
excerpt (which is explained further below) is the power of subjective experience in the modern context
of organisations. In the modern context the simplicity of the industrial era s inputs and outputs, the
role based formulas for successful operations are commonly challenged (Martins Terblanche, 2003;
Nadler Tushman, 1999; W. O. Nilsson, 2009). This is especially true in a creative economy, where
innovation is in the limelight, and new models are being called for to overcome the inefficient

The Radical Groups Of Thinkers
Throughout the recent centuries, biologists, psychologist, and sociologists have been franticly
researching a single question, which if solved, can help us decode our every behavior and decision.
Why exactly are we the people we are today? This question has sparked many passionate debates, one
of them being; Nature (Genetics, biological traits,) versus Nurture (Environmental effects, learning
behavior). There are two radical groups of thinkers in which strictly oppose each other, Nativists and
Empiricist and with a common interest in mind, their perspective of how a being develops
behaviorally and cognitively differ drastically with very few to none similarities. This theory provides
the most insight to the mystery that is ourselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, we have not the slightest proof that behavioral traits are passed down through
genetics, which leads us to believe that our next best answer would consist of environmental stimuli
influencing our development of the mind. An example of an environmental stimuli would be social
interaction, in which we all show signs of change from our fetal stages to the day we die. During this
time span of time we form our own unique individuality and behavior. There are many different
perspectives of psychology in which psychologists try to explain the reasoning behind humanistic
behavior and thinking. There are two extremist groups of psychologists that strictly oppose each other
when it comes to the Nature vs. Nurture theory. Nativists, psychologists who adopt strong hereditary
reasoning or Nature theory, believe humans are a product of evolution and our inner and external traits
as well as our behavior are due to our very complex genetic form. The Nativists believe our
individuality is a result of the mixed genetic code, which we get from both of our parents. This code is
solely different from any other being in the world. Nativists strongly believe every reaction we have
and behavior we exhibit is part of our genetic code, which still remains a mystery today. These
thoughts are so radical that after decades of research and experimentation, it is still strongly believed
that our genetic code is the proper

The Effects Of Sexual Content On Children s Programming
Sexual Content in Children s Programming Children s programming is beginning to raise a concern
among many parents due to sexual content being included along with other inappropriate scenes like
violence, offensive language or verbal abuse. In a news article by Cheryl Wetzstein, she reports that
one in ten parents agreed that there were a lot of good programs on for kids because all the programs
are portraying sexual content or violence instead of being educational to children (pg. 40). Due to the
recent technological advancements, children s media exposure has increased, causing more children to
be bombarded with shows featuring sexual innuendos, sexual activity or adult subtext. Not only is the
sexual content being included frequently in programming, children are facing the content in
advertisements as well. An example of this is the advertisement poster for The Lion King. The film
poster features the face of Simba in which many analyzers and parents are pointing out that between
the eyes and above the nose features an image that looks like the butt of a naked woman creating a
sexualized image some children could pick up on (Fyfe, 2006, pg. 8). Sexual content throughout
children s programming can have both positive and negative effects on the children watching. Many
children will become able to understand what is going on in the show or film causing questioning and
new thoughts or ideas about sexual activity While parents have a concern about sexual content being

Joint Tenancy With Right Of Survivorship Case Study
Discussion Post Tread 2
Joint Tenancy with Right of Survivorship Joint tenancy with right of survivorship (JTRS) was created
to protect the surviving co owners in the ownership of said property. Under JTRS co owners may sell
their shares without the consent of the other co owners. Their interest may be attached to creditors,
however, upon the death of any co owner, the said property will be divided equally among the other co
owners (Kubasek, N.K., 2016). In 1989 to 1990, North Carolina amended their state s general laws
section 41 2 to permit the formation of the right to survivorship in joint tenancies. This right was
eliminated over two centuries (Orth, J.V., 1990). Peter, a deceased co owner, had no right to leave his
interest to his son. So, Andrew had no right to put a lien on his father s interest, which also means, the
creditor has no right to try to foreclose on the property. As Martin s attorney and brother in Christ, I
would advise Martin of his rights, and if he wants to pursue it in court, be his lawyer in said case.
Adverse Possession According to North Carolina laws, even though they allow Martin to inherit the
mountain property due to the death of the rest of the co owners, Otis is now considered the property
owner. This is because, North Carolina allows trespassers who clearly live and improve a vacant piece
of property to obtain the title to that property after some conditions are met (North Carolina, 2016).
One of these is that the individual

, the narrative is mostly dominated by poems male characters. Beowulf, Grendel, Hrothgar all have
major roles in the poems narrative, the poem is written from the male perspective and its central
themes of bravery, violence and heroism are associated with the male characters. This would lead one
to agree with the above statement, that the roles of the female characters in beowulf are minor and
easily forgotten due to the fact that they are mostly in the background, but upon closer inspection it

Driving Cars Should Be Allowed On Our Roads
I support that self driving cars should be allowed on our roads. Think about riding in your car without
being paying attention to all the details on the roads. Think about leaving work exhausted and get into
your car, push a button, type your home address and the next thing you know you are in your parking
at your house. Let s think about that last party when you had that extra glass of wine, and you are
alone staring at your car wondering how you will get home. The self driving car is the solution to
those struggles that we all face at any time in our lives. The future of moving people and goods will
bring as new transportation technologies, an these technologies will make it possible to move faster
and safer than ever before, but law and regulations and rigorous planning need to take place at the
same paste as these technologies. The self driving cars are coming on our roads and I can t wait to that

commuters and will reduce the mortality rate due to road accidents. Most of the roads accidents are
due to reckless driving and drunk driving. According to the International Organization for Road

Pyramid Discipleship Essay
Pyramid Discipleship Discipleship in a mega church
One of the hardest things to do when you are in a mega church is creating a community of genuine

relationships, but there are ways to do it, and following the mold of pyramid discipleship can be very
effective.
So what is it?
Pyramid discipleship is a system set up in a way to where one person will only take on 5 to 10 (at the
very most) people at a time to disciple. And as they continue in their discipling there will be others
above them to disciple them as they go. When you actually look at this inside of the church it becomes
clearer and easier to understand. At the top of the pyramid would be the senior pastor, a maybe some
of the elders or other staff members. Moving down the pyramid would be the staff that would oversee
the discipleship program. Weather this be one or two people, this is where the discipleship starts.

Descriptive Essay About Alone
Alone
Today seemed like fun, but when I walked out of the restroom it was the complete opposite. As I was
tidying up, I waited for my cousin Jessica. I couldn t help but stare outside of the enormous, clear
windows of the mall where there was a gigantic water fountain, sparkly and clear. Waiting and staring,
I realized that none of my other relatives were near me and my sister was gone. They probably wanted
only me to stay with Jessica, I pondered, feeling like the victim because thinking of Jessica made me
throw up inside. When I went into the restroom, I yelled, Jessica! Are you in there? No one replied.
Where could she be? I started to crawl on the cold as ice floor that made me feel like I was in a freezer
room, to look for my cousin s shoes and legs. Jessica, the annoying, wild, teenage rebel, was probably
just hiding from me. Every time I passed a stall, I would say to myself, She s probably in the other
stall, until there were no more stalls. I could barely breathe. Panicking and sweating, I walked out of
the restroom and tried to think of places where my family could ve gone to. When I exited the
restroom and turned the corner, the hallway looked more like an abandoned ghost town. Fortunately,
anyone who passed by me didn t bother to care that I was alone. Then when I realized something, my
heart sank. I had this hole in my heart that could never be replaced because I realized that I had
slipped from their minds, being forgotten. Even my own

Analysis Of The Article New Avon Ceo Vows
Article Summary
In the article, New Avon CEO vows to restore the 126 year old beauty company to former glory, Jenna
Goudreau (2013) interviews Avon CEO, Sheri McCoy, on the current issues facing Avon Products
around the world and the results of management transitions in the company.
Over the past few years, Avon s stock and net income has declined as a result of misplaced focus in
different areas throughout the company. Under the former CEO, Andrea Jung, the company had an
internal focus, was expanding too fast, and failed to recognize the needs of consumers in different
markets. Under the new CEO, Avon is improving by focusing more on sales representatives, cutting
jobs, reducing spending, and pulling out of failing markets. Additionally, they are incorporating
information systems and social media as selling tools, catering to individual markets, and foregoing
other growth areas until the core business is stable. With these improvements, Avon expects that it will
see a turnaround in the coming years.
AVON SWOT ANALYSIS
Weaknesses:
Brand image losing value
Declining North American operations
Decreasing market share Strengths:
Low costs for operations
Well established distribution in various markets with wide range of products
Committed workforce with a common goal
Threats:
Internal disagreements over leadership
Competition from a variety of companies
Lawsuits regarding compliance on an international scale
Strategy 1: Solidify leadership

Research Paper On Liquid Latex
From the data we collected, it is clearly shown that by day 9 liquid latex preserved the most mass in
the pig foot. While the foot harbouring liquid latex only lost 77.9g of mass in 9 days, alcohol lost
90.3g, formalin lost 91.6g, oils lost 87.6g, and phenol lost 129.3g. Expectantly, almost every
independent variable lost less mass than the control, which lost 127.2g. However, the unexpected
greater loss of mass in the leg containing Phenol may prove that there was experimental error in one
of our final measurements.
In addition, the results were not completely expected. Due to the new research on using plastic as a
preservative, we hypothesized that liquid latex would be the most effective at delaying decomposition.
When using plastication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It performed more efficiently than phenol, alcohol, and oils but not as well as liquid latex. This result
could have been due to the fact that the formalin was not pure because it was previously utilized for an
unknown amount of time. Formalin has strong dehydrating and oxidizing agents. Its purpose is to be
used as a disinfectant, a germicide, and it fixes/preserves tissue cells. Additionally, it combines with
proteins, inactivating them, and kills them. It preserves efficiently due to the fact that it penetrates
deep into the tissue, kills present bacteria, helps prevent future bacteria, and assists with retaining the
tissue structure (Mercer County Community College, 2016). In our experiment, it lost about 14.13%,
or 91.6g of its original mass while liquid latex lost 13.81% , phenol lost 19.05%, oils lost 14.46%, and
alcohol lost 17.00%. In other words, it was a close second but not quite as advanced as liquid latex.
The last measurement of formalin was recorded to have lost 14.13% and finish with a mass of 549.95g
compared to 640.45g. With this knowledge we feel that the formalin could have potentially been more
effective if we had used unused formalin.
Concluding our experiment, it was apparent that liquid latex achieved maximum use at delaying the
mass loss of the foot. Formalin performed fairly decently while oils only had moderate success and
quality. On the contrary, phenol and alcohol performed indecently and lost much more mass in
comparison with liquid latex which had more efficacious results.Whether or not the data was skewed
from maggots, incorrect calculations, or ineffective materials, the results convey a fairly reliable
source of facts and statistics based on

Purpose And Hypothesis Of The Pediatric Pain Management Of...
Purpose and Hypothesis of Study The study conducted by Stanley and Pollard (2013) had two
components. The first was to assess the amount knowledge concerning pediatric pain management of
nurses then gauge their attitudes and level of self efficacy concerning acute pediatric pain care. The
second was an examination of the relationship between years of experience, amount of knowledge,
attitude, and levels of self efficacy. According to the authors, studies have previously indicated that
care may be affected by the level of knowledge and attitude of the nurse, however no research existed
between each component and self efficacy. Stanley and Pollard predicted that a nurses job
performance concerning adequate pain management of pediatric patients would be affected by the two
components examined. (Review of literature ) They presented the problem by citing previously
conducted peer reviewed studies indicating that proper pain management of pediatric patients was
lacking and which emphasized the importance of knowledge of the topic [cite]. Examples were given
of barriers to proper pain management which included: ignoring patient self report, lack of education
about pain assessment, misunderstanding pharmacological effect on the respiratory system, lack of a
universally applied pain management system, work security concerns, perceived inferiority, and time
constraints. ( Stanley et al., 2013)

Participant Observation Methods
I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I was
able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked out
with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about their
interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One of the
downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing down
what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I had to wait
until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague information
because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method

The Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel
April 12, 1999 marked the Seventh Millennium Evening at the White House and the 54th year after
Franklin Roosevelt s death. Years after personally experiencing the horrors of the Holocaust and
World War II, Elie Wiesel shared his story with America among the President and First lady, Hillary
Clinton, to inspire the world to act upon social and political injustices. In his speech The Perils of
Indifference , Wiesel opened up about his past and how it made him realize how important it is to
stand up against crimes against humanity. He also discussed the state of the American people and
compared their involvement in foreign intervention back to the lack of intervention in World War II.
Wiesel motivated America with his emphasis on the emotional, logical, and ethical impacts of
indifference. Perhaps the most influential piece of Wiesel s speech was his inclusion of unique
personal narrative. His touching story of his youth spent in a concentration camp gave weight to his
points on indifference as he recalled that Fifty four years ago to the day, a young Jewish boy from a
small town in the Carpathian Mountains woke up...in a place of eternal infamy called Buchenwald
(Wiesel). With no property to their name and no individual rights, they marched to Buchenwald where
his father later died before they could both escape ( Wiesel, Elie ). The reality of these past horrors
gave him a strong sense of credibility as he spoke on about the time when he was oppressed and
victimized.

The Theory Of Management And Management
F. W. Taylor Scientific Management
Scientific management, also called Taylorism, was a theory of management that analyses and
synthesizes workflow. Its main objective is the improvement of economic efficiency, especially labour
productivity. It was one of the first attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and
management.
Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylor in the 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing. Its
peak of influence came in the 1910s; in the 1920s, it was still influential, but began an era of
competition and syncretism with opposing or complementary ideas.
Although the scientific direction of a theory or school of distinct thought was obsolete in the 1930s,
most of its themes are still important elements of industrial engineering and management today. These
include the analysis; synthesis; logic; rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and waste
disposal; standardization of best practices; contempt for tradition preserved only for herself or to
protect the social status of particular workers with particular skill sets; the transformation of craft
production to mass production; and transfer between workers and workers in the tools, processes and
documentation.
Pursuit of economic efficiency:
Although the terms scientific management and Taylorism are generally treated as synonyms, work of
Frederick Taylor marks only the first form of scientific management, followed by other approaches;
So in the theory of

To do this they need legislations to enforce their laws, to function properly the uniformed pubic services need to have legislations. The extent of authority relates to the limit of control held by an individual or organisation. The limit of control is governed by the job description of the role, as well as the jurisdiction, with authority coming either from statute or company policy. An example would be Her Majesty s Chief Inspector of Prisons who has the authority under the Ministry of Justice to inspect and report to the Government on the treatment and conditions for all prisoners in England and Wales. Position When we talk about someone being in a position of authority we usually mean that they hold a certain rank or status within society or within an organisation such as the public services. There are several ways in which a person could find himself or herself in a position of authority. For example, a priest has the authority of the church while a mother or father has parental authority over children. In the uniformed public services, positions of authority come with promotion. An officer may be promoted because of certain achievements and special attributes, such as experience in the service, good character, knowledge of the job, dedication, self discipline and the respect of one s colleagues. If you join the uniformed public services and are placed in a position of authority, you may lawfully command team members, who recognise your authority and their duty to obey those legitimate commands. When authority is legitimate, there is no need to influence or use power. Indeed, if a senior officer were unable to gain the respect of a team member by command alone, then there would be no recognisable authority. However, due to the changing minds of Canadians and their values over a course of time, Canada created new laws that directed the act of assisted suicide by a physician. However, it is an ongoing debate whether these laws are problematic or beneficial. Canada s new laws regarding doctor assisted suicide are effective because patients can die with dignity, there are benefits to the healthcare system and there will be less emotional turmoil for patients and their families. To begin, patients can die with dignity. Dying with dignity is the philosophical concept that a terminally ill individual should be allowed to die naturally and comfortably instead of experiencing a life of deep unconsciousness prolonged by mechanical support systems. (Death with Dignity) In 1993, Sue Rodriguez, a sufferer of ALS, believed that the time and manner of her death should not be determined by her illness or by the law. She expressed that it should be legal for a physician to end her life for her at a time she has chosen. (Fenton) Rodriguez took her case to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, she argued that Section 241(b) of the Criminal Code, everyone who aids or abets a person in committing suicide commits an indictable offence, violates her rights in the Charter under Section 7, that everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security, 12, that everyone has the right not to be subjected to any ... • 4. A. E Housman s To An Athlete Dying Young The poem To an Athlete Dying Young is about, as you can guess, the passing of a young athlete. A.E Housman, the author, starts the poem off with remembering when the athlete had a huge victory at a town race and how all the people of the town were applauding him. Not too long after we find out that the athlete has passed. When this poem was published South Africa was fighting in the second Boer war. A.E Housman was very big on soldiers being prepared before going to war. Unfortunately during the second Boer war they weren t. It had been said that the solider weren t physically or mentally prepared for the war. Throughout this poem you can see how he reflected his feeling about the Boer war. All through the poem A.E Housman uses several different literary devices such as imagery, rhyme, and mood to help the reader comprehend the poem better and have visual images of what s going on in their head. A.E Housman main theme that I interpreted was that greatness does not last long. All through this poem Housman shows great forms of imagery in it. From the title we knew that the athlete was going to die, however with the rhyming in this poem we can kind of see how it happens and how everyone is affected by it. While Farad is credited with the foundation, most of the teachings came from a different movement. It evolved from the Moorish Temple of Science founded by Timothy Drew (Source 1). Drew preached that Islam was the correct faith for African Americans. Drew also preached that African Americans were superior to Caucasians. The Nation of Islam, along with being a religious movement, was a movement for change. They wanted to raise awareness and create racial pride within the African American community (Source 1). This mentality is dangerous and can have disastrous effect on society. The hatred can lead to conflicts and wars. Along with denouncing any religion other than Islam, they denounce anyone that is not African American. This is the second reason that the movement was unacceptable. The Nation of Islam used the teachings of Timothy Drew from the Temple of Science (Source 3). Drew preached that African Americans were the superior race. He especially focused on their superiority over the Caucasians. Drew also preached that the Caucasians were doomed because Jesus was a black man who attempted to redeem the Black Moabites, only to be executed by the white Romans (Source 3). These teachings influenced the Nation of Islam greatly and lead to their belief in African American superiority. • 8. The Low Coefficient Of The Lichen Population Discussion: The overall variation of the mean moisture content of tree bark, and the mean distribution of the Lichen population in relation to the increasing height of the tree from the ground level is shown in Figure 1. It was observed that there is a remarkable reduction in the mean moisture content of the bark as the height of the tree increased. Hence there is a strong relationship between the mean moisture content and the tree height as supported by the high coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.96136). The mean moisture content from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.00 metre has a percentage reduction of 18% (Refer to Appendix VI for equation), and this value increases to 24% from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.50 metres. Fielding (1952) on his research on Monterey pine trees, also found that some trees showed a progressive decrease in the moisture content, as the tree height increased. The reason for this maybe due to the fact that the lower parts of the trees have a closer proximity to the soil surface. In this location the organic matter content of the top layer of soil is relatively high due to seasonal tree leaves deposition of perennial trees and a good cover of grass surface, this creates a higher moisture retention of top soil therefore lower parts of the trees get more moisture contact. Claire Shi (2016), conducted a similar research on trees at a different area at the Victoria Esplanade. The results from her research show that the moisture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Narrative Style And Film Analysis Of The Grand Budapest Hotel The Grand Budapest Hotel revolves around Europe of the 1930s and 1960s while it was in time of the war, through the adventures of The Grand Budapest Hotel s doorman Zero and the Hotel manager Gustave. The saga is linked to a burglar and a Renaissance painting, a great family s wealth war, and the sudden change of war in Europe. It reflects the vicissitudes of political history in Europe for half a century. This article will analyze The Grand Budapest Hotel from two aspects: artistic style and film theme. I. Artistic style The Grand Budapest Hotel is the work of American director Wes Anderson. His works have a strong personal style: bright colour, the full symmetry of the composition, a straight frame, a deliberately orderly stance, unique visual style and narrative mode. In his film, a sense of humour is often through Deadpan expression: actors often deadpan and no body movements, but in the restraint and slight change, as well as in the pause between the odd cold humour. The hues, props and sets of his films are often colourful and whimsical. There are still plenty of these factors in The Grand Budapest Hotel, but many new elements are added. 1. Narrative mode In terms of the overall structure of the film, this film breaks through the previous single line narrative mode, using four layers of nested narrative structure, layer by layer, and without any lack of independence. The first level is a little girl went to the cemetery to worship writer s grave, she put the key to hanging on the writer statue, and took out a book called The Grand Budapest Hotel , she turned to the end of the book, the book was printed with pictures of writer; the second level is the story of the girl who began to pay tribute to the author in the cemetery. The third level is in The Grand Budapest Hotel, where old Zero tells his story to a young man. Time and space returned to Zero when Zero was young, and this began the journey of Zero and Mr. Gustave, this is the fourth level of narrative mode. Skip the middle specific storyline and go straight to the end. Gustave s last moments are in black and white. Then, when the writer was young, he ended his conversation with Zero, and the writer was sitting in the lobby of The Grand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The implementation of trade agreement based on agriculture sector led to sluggishness in the various market dynamics of the available grains. In addition to this, the quantity of grains was declining and as a consequence of this, the revenues generated declined at an alarming rate. The country was therefore obliged to opt for food import. The common people were involved in the actual digging of the gem. However, they just received peanuts from the sale of the stones, while the wealthy would gain enormous cash from the sale of the same. This was attributed to the fact that, the wealthy had all the necessary connections to international markets. Despite this, the mining of gem was characterized by myriad negative effects to the local environment. However, attempts from various non governmental organizations (NGOs) and donors to challenge the same, were completely blocked by the shadow state that had a very great influence in Madagascar. Moreover, the mining act is practiced in selected and secured areas thus limiting the efforts of various national and related international agencies to protect or conserve the immediate surroundings. On the other side, the potential grounds for gem mining are located in the secured government areas, and the rainforest zones which are known to have an enormous degree of biodiversity. Thus many NGOs find it cumbersome to advocate for ecotourism and national parks. This is attributed to the fact that NGOs are not able to prove to the Government, potential donors, and various available private business that ecotourism earns more revenue which is sustainable than carrying out gem mining in the area. The inherent gem mining in the area has resulted to an overwhelming cultural as well as political impact in the vicinity of the local areas. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. A Crumbling Nation Essay For those who do not know much about the Soviet Union, or those intrigued by the almighty Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), the history of the collapse of the Soviet Union is extremely well documented in Stephen Kotkin s Armageddon Averted: The Soviet Collapse 1970 2000. This relatively short book provides great insight into the downfall of the Soviet Union, as well as to how it could potentially have sustained longer than it did by the Soviet elite. A dramatic shift occurred in the Soviet Union between 1970 and 2000; numerous events and modifications occurred to pave the way for a long and slow decay, as opposed to a rapid and fervent eruption of a crumble that many may have expected. He incorporates various accounts by numerous insiders and senior dignitaries, along with notable failures by political figures, to elucidate the factors that led to the failure of both Communism and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Kotkin commences by discussing the Arab Israeli War of 1973, as it is a major turning point for the beginning of the collapse of the Soviet Union. During this time, the Arabs and the Israelis went to war; because of this, an oil embargo was put forth and prices skyrocketed. Many countries and nations around the world were struggling to make do on little to no oil, including the two world superpowers. Tough times were had by all during this time during the Brezhnev era; many resorted to working in and with the black market in order to make ends meet. As thousands were losing jobs and sinking more and more into financial woes, the Soviets struck oil in Siberia. A quick shift took place, putting the Soviet Union as the main oil exporter. Mary Lou Retton says, driving home a topic brushed by schools and parents. Happiness is something that everyone strives for and without a goal so large many things would be completely meaningless. To some people happiness is an amazing house with cars and money but to others, happiness is a loving, healthy family, a roof over their heads with clothes and food. When a large figure in society or even a community shows their beliefs through examples, it is hard not to follow or at least be interested. Water Code Of 1934 Essay Like the United States early effort with the Rivers and Harbor Act of 1899, Brazil s initial struggle to control pollution started with the legislative enactment of the water Code of 1934. (Alter, 2012) The Water Code of 1934 was designed to regulate usage, property rights over water, and setting limitations over water use. Before this landmark legislation, the demands for water use was overseen by the Ministry of Energy s National Department of Water and Energy. Due to the fact water was a key resource in power generation and electricity via hydroelectricity, prior to the Water Code of 1934 power companies had a high degree of control over all aspects that could impact power generation. However, as silicon became more expensive, McMaster decided to switch to cadmium telluride. This material was far more inexpensive than silicon which would eventually lead the company to thrive. It s clear that there is a problem within the department because of the high number of shootings perpetrated by police. Compared to other cities around the nation, it becomes evident that the number of fatal shootings is highly abnormal, and that reform is necessary to prevent that number from rising even higher. Another factor that proves reform is necessary is that many of the fatally shot were mentally ill, and not criminals. If police were trained on how to deescalate situations instead of shoot, it could prevent unnecessary deaths. In the midst of one of our many design sessions, a member of the team expresses how he s feeling the sense that he s in this alone , that he doesn t feel any support from the team. Their interest may be attached to creditors, however, upon the death of any co owner, the said property will be divided equally among the other co owners (Kubasek, N.K., 2016). In 1989 to 1990, North Carolina amended their state s general laws section 41 2 to permit the formation of the right to survivorship in joint tenancies. This right was eliminated over two centuries (Orth, J.V., 1990). Peter, a deceased co owner, had no right to leave his interest to his son. So, Andrew had no right to put a lien on his father s interest, which also means, the creditor has no right to try to foreclose on the property. As Martin s attorney and brother in Christ, I would advise Martin of his rights, and if he wants to pursue it in court, be his lawyer in said case. • 42. Descriptive Essay About Alone Alone Today seemed like fun, but when I walked out of the restroom it was the complete opposite. As I was tidying up, I waited for my cousin Jessica. I couldn t help but stare outside of the enormous, clear windows of the mall where there was a gigantic water fountain, sparkly and clear. Waiting and staring, I realized that none of my other relatives were near me and my sister was gone. They probably wanted only me to stay with Jessica, I pondered, feeling like the victim because thinking of Jessica made me throw up inside. When I went into the restroom, I yelled, Jessica! Are you in there? No one replied. Where could she be? I started to crawl on the cold as ice floor that made me feel like I was in a freezer room, to look for my cousin s shoes and legs. Jessica, the annoying, wild, teenage rebel, was probably just hiding from me. Every time I passed a stall, I would say to myself, She s probably in the other stall, until there were no more stalls. I could barely breathe. Panicking and sweating, I walked out of the restroom and tried to think of places where my family could ve gone to. When I exited the restroom and turned the corner, the hallway looked more like an abandoned ghost town. Fortunately, anyone who passed by me didn t bother to care that I was alone. Then when I realized something, my heart sank. I had this hole in my heart that could never be replaced because I realized that I had slipped from their minds, being forgotten. Even my own ... Over the past few years, Avon s stock and net income has declined as a result of misplaced focus in different areas throughout the company. Under the former CEO, Andrea Jung, the company had an internal focus, was expanding too fast, and failed to recognize the needs of consumers in different markets. Under the new CEO, Avon is improving by focusing more on sales representatives, cutting jobs, reducing spending, and pulling out of failing markets. Additionally, they are incorporating information systems and social media as selling tools, catering to individual markets, and foregoing other growth areas until the core business is stable. With these improvements, Avon expects that it will see a turnaround in the coming years. AVON SWOT ANALYSIS Weaknesses: Brand image losing value Declining North American operations Decreasing market share Strengths: Low costs for operations Well established distribution in various markets with wide range of products Committed workforce with a common goal Threats: Internal disagreements over leadership Competition from a variety of companies Lawsuits regarding compliance on an international scale Strategy 1: Solidify leadership ... • 44. Research Paper On Liquid Latex From the data we collected, it is clearly shown that by day 9 liquid latex preserved the most mass in the pig foot. While the foot harbouring liquid latex only lost 77.9g of mass in 9 days, alcohol lost 90.3g, formalin lost 91.6g, oils lost 87.6g, and phenol lost 129.3g. Expectantly, almost every independent variable lost less mass than the control, which lost 127.2g. However, the unexpected greater loss of mass in the leg containing Phenol may prove that there was experimental error in one of our final measurements. In addition, the results were not completely expected. Due to the new research on using plastic as a preservative, we hypothesized that liquid latex would be the most effective at delaying decomposition. When using plastication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It performed more efficiently than phenol, alcohol, and oils but not as well as liquid latex. This result could have been due to the fact that the formalin was not pure because it was previously utilized for an unknown amount of time. Formalin has strong dehydrating and oxidizing agents. Its purpose is to be used as a disinfectant, a germicide, and it fixes/preserves tissue cells. Additionally, it combines with proteins, inactivating them, and kills them. It preserves efficiently due to the fact that it penetrates deep into the tissue, kills present bacteria, helps prevent future bacteria, and assists with retaining the tissue structure (Mercer County Community College, 2016). In our experiment, it lost about 14.13%, or 91.6g of its original mass while liquid latex lost 13.81% , phenol lost 19.05%, oils lost 14.46%, and alcohol lost 17.00%. In other words, it was a close second but not quite as advanced as liquid latex. The last measurement of formalin was recorded to have lost 14.13% and finish with a mass of 549.95g compared to 640.45g. With this knowledge we feel that the formalin could have potentially been more effective if we had used unused formalin. Concluding our experiment, it was apparent that liquid latex achieved maximum use at delaying the mass loss of the foot. Formalin performed fairly decently while oils only had moderate success and quality. On the contrary, phenol and alcohol performed indecently and lost much more mass in comparison with liquid latex which had more efficacious results.Whether or not the data was skewed from maggots, incorrect calculations, or ineffective materials, the results convey a fairly reliable source of facts and statistics based on ... • 45. Purpose And Hypothesis Of The Pediatric Pain Management Of... Purpose and Hypothesis of Study The study conducted by Stanley and Pollard (2013) had two components. The first was to assess the amount knowledge concerning pediatric pain management of nurses then gauge their attitudes and level of self efficacy concerning acute pediatric pain care. The second was an examination of the relationship between years of experience, amount of knowledge, attitude, and levels of self efficacy. According to the authors, studies have previously indicated that care may be affected by the level of knowledge and attitude of the nurse, however no research existed between each component and self efficacy. Stanley and Pollard predicted that a nurses job performance concerning adequate pain management of pediatric patients would be affected by the two components examined. (Review of literature ) They presented the problem by citing previously conducted peer reviewed studies indicating that proper pain management of pediatric patients was lacking and which emphasized the importance of knowledge of the topic [cite]. Examples were given of barriers to proper pain management which included: ignoring patient self report, lack of education about pain assessment, misunderstanding pharmacological effect on the respiratory system, lack of a universally applied pain management system, work security concerns, perceived inferiority, and time constraints. • 46. Participant Observation Methods I found that the participant observation method was the most helpful and easiest method to use. I was able to talk with the firemen about their experiences and see how they interacted. I also worked out with them and sat around talking with them. This method allowed me to get information about their interactions because I could easily observe them talking amongst themselves and to me. One of the downsides of this method was that I could not record information as I was observing. Writing down what they were saying and what was going on would seem rude and would be hard to do. I had to wait until leaving the firehouse before recording what happened. This led to more vague information because of forgetting things. The phenomenological method ... • 47. The Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel April 12, 1999 marked the Seventh Millennium Evening at the White House and the 54th year after Franklin Roosevelt s death. Years after personally experiencing the horrors of the Holocaust and World War II, Elie Wiesel shared his story with America among the President and First lady, Hillary Clinton, to inspire the world to act upon social and political injustices. In his speech The Perils of Indifference , Wiesel opened up about his past and how it made him realize how important it is to stand up against crimes against humanity. He also discussed the state of the American people and compared their involvement in foreign intervention back to the lack of intervention in World War II. Wiesel motivated America with his emphasis on the emotional, logical, and ethical impacts of indifference. Perhaps the most influential piece of Wiesel s speech was his inclusion of unique personal narrative. His touching story of his youth spent in a concentration camp gave weight to his points on indifference as he recalled that Fifty four years ago to the day, a young Jewish boy from a small town in the Carpathian Mountains woke up...in a place of eternal infamy called Buchenwald (Wiesel). With no property to their name and no individual rights, they marched to Buchenwald where his father later died before they could both escape ( Wiesel, Elie ). The reality of these past horrors gave him a strong sense of credibility as he spoke on about the time when he was oppressed and victimized. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Theory Of Management And Management F. W. Taylor Scientific Management Scientific management, also called Taylorism, was a theory of management that analyses and synthesizes workflow. Its main objective is the improvement of economic efficiency, especially labour productivity. It was one of the first attempts to apply science to the engineering of processes and management. Its development began with Frederick Winslow Taylor in the 1880s and 1890s in manufacturing. Its peak of influence came in the 1910s; in the 1920s, it was still influential, but began an era of competition and syncretism with opposing or complementary ideas. Although the scientific direction of a theory or school of distinct thought was obsolete in the 1930s, most of its themes are still important elements of industrial engineering and management today. These include the analysis; synthesis; logic; rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and waste disposal; standardization of best practices; contempt for tradition preserved only for herself or to protect the social status of particular workers with particular skill sets; the transformation of craft production to mass production; and transfer between workers and workers in the tools, processes and documentation. Pursuit of economic efficiency: Although the terms scientific management and Taylorism are generally treated as synonyms, work of Frederick Taylor marks only the first form of scientific management, followed by other approaches; So in the theory of ...
