THE MAJOR FIGURES IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PENTECOSTAL MOVEMENT IN
AMERICA We now come to the section devoted to the major pioneers in the beginning of
Pentecostalism in America. The first person we want to discuss is Charles Fox Parham. He is the man
generally recognized as the formulation of Pentecostal doctrine and the theological founder of the
movement. Parham held to the theological argument that tongues are always the initial evidence of a
person receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He also taught the necessity of being baptized with
the Holy Spirit as the only way to escape the great tribulation. In October 1900 Parham opened a bible
school in Topeka, Kansas and in December he led his students through a study of the tenets of the
Holiness movement. The students came to study the book of Acts and during the study Parham asked
them to find scriptural evidence of the baptism with the Holy Spirit. It was out of this study that led
Parham to the conclusion this was the biblical way a person received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Parham moved to Houston Texas and started a church and bible school. It was at this school where a
student name William Joseph Seymour, a black man attended the training sessions that Parham taught.
Because of the laws of segregation at the time Seymour was forced to sit in the hallway and listen to
the teachings of Parham. Seymour desired

Controversial Benefits Of Maternity And Paternity Leave
Maternity and Paternity leave are controversial benefits that only some working men and women
across the world receive. The length or payment of maternity and paternity leave depends on the
country or even the company the employee works in. Most working people are completely for
maternity and paternity leave, because it allows for families to adapt to and care for the new baby in
their home. In general, people against maternity and paternity leave claim it is bad for businesses and
the economy in general. Maternity and paternity leave are times when employees leave work to
deliver or care for a newly born child. Most people are for maternity and paternity leave, because
working parents need money from working and typically want to be able ... Show more content on

Murphy makes a case stating these leaves simply hurt women. Murphy s main points are that
maternity leave is bad for business, because it is too expensive for them, and bad for women, because
companies will not want to hire or promote women if they have to go without them for months and
pay them for that time away. The K and K article claims essentially the same things about maternity
leave, but both are misleading. First, maternity leave is not bad for businesses, because, as shown in
the study by Arnarson et al., parental leaves actually promote work productivity and leads to more
women joining the workforce overall. Secondly, it is against the law, in the United States and many
other countries, for companies to not hire somebody, because they are a woman or because they are
pregnant. Therefore, that argument is completely insignificant anyway. Most arguments against
parental leave are not applicable or are incorrect, as shown by all of the studies mentioned

A Study of Four Classical Chinese Poems
One subject that seems salient in the four classical Chinese poems included in the reading is social
status. I use this term loosely because in The Charcoal Seller and On the Birth of His Son social status
is probably best understood by the western designation of social class, but in Woman and Mei Yao Ch
en social status is better understood as part of gender relations. However, I think that the more
generalized designation of social status is appropriate in approaching these four poems, because of the
way it illustrates the Confucian concept of ren, usually translated as goodness or virtue . This is very
different, however, from most western notions of goodness or virtue because in Confucianism the
concept is defined in terms of social relationships: for Confucius, there were five specifically defined
social relationships in which one should exhibit ren . These are the relations of a parent to a child, of
an older sibling to a younger sibling, of a husband to a wife, of an older person to a younger person,
and of a ruler toward a subject. In other words, relationships which might risk a potential power
imbalance are governed by right rules of conduct. In these terms, we can see the workings, or failings,
of the socially defined ren in these four poems. This is most clear and obvious in The Charcoal Seller
(Waley 1919), which demonstrates the failure of ren in the final category, the virtuous or right
relationship between a ruler and his

RIDDIR Legislation
In an engineering workplace it is important for the employee to report accidents as this is part of the
RIDDIR legislation and this needs to be followed by the engineering industry. By following the
legislation you can prevent any accident or incidents occurring to any employee or employer within
any workplace.
Ill health and accidents are quite common at work because this happened in 2011/12, 1.1 million
people who were working were suffering from illnesses, and some people believed that the illnesses
were caused from or made worse from their current work or their past work.
We record and report at work because it is a legal requirement under The Reporting of Injuries,
Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR).
RIDDOR sets a legal obligation on: the employers, the self employed people, and the people who are
in control of the premises. These responsible people will need to report and record incidents, diseases,
injuries and any dangerous occurrences that will involve employees, the self employed workers and all
members of the public.
The evidence provided through the recording and reporting will allow authorities such as HSE or local
authority Environmental Health, to find out where, what and how the risks arises and to also search for

Foot Check Literature Review
Literature reviews provide nurses with critically appraised and scientifically proven evidence for
delivering safe quality care (Majid, Foo, Luyt, Zhang, Theng, Chang Mokhtar, 2011, p. 229). Use of
the evidenced based information found in the literature review provided the writer with information to
change clinical practice. It was evident that a foot check program was needed in the writer s
hemodialysis unit to prevent foot complications because of the high incidence of diabetes and
peripheral vascular disease. There were many literature reviews read in preparation for planning a foot

Track And Field History
The History of Track and Field
Track and field, also known as athletics is one of the oldest sports in the history of man. It has been
proven throughout history that your economic status or culture don t keep you from competing. You
just have to train hard and give the people something to cheer for. Jesse Owens, the first American in
Olympic Track and Field history to win four gold medals in a single Olympiad said it best, People
come out to see you perform and you ve got to give them the best you have within you. The lives of
most men are patchwork quilts. Or at best one matching outfit with a closet and a laundry bag full of
incongruous accumulations. A lifetime of training for just 10 seconds. (Jesse Owens)
The athletic events included foot races, discus, javelin, long jump, wrestling, boxing. The first record
of a running event was a 600 foot long race. The first champion was a cook named Koroibos. The race
took place in a stadium near the city of Elis during the ancient Olympic Games in the year of 776 B.C.
The Olympic Games were men only events and lasted for eleven centuries until a Theodosius I, a
Christian emperor banned them in A.D. 394 because they conflicted with religious festivals. ... Show

Say Anything Gender Stereotypes
Say Anything, directed by Cameron Crowe is a romantic comedy from the late 1980s. It presents the
development of a highschool relationship between a burnout and the class valedictorian. While filled
with lighthearted humor, the film carries a deeper message when he context of society is taken into
account. Say Anything challenges gender stereotypes, societal standards for young people, and
relationship dynamics. Lloyd is presented externally as an incredibly pedestrian character in the film.
This has the effect of making him rather unique, however, as he is compared to the excellence of
Diane. While he has no striking characteristics, his friendly demeanor, unconventional insights,
mysterious trench coat, and matter of fact personality make him stand out. In particular, his heart ...

This is shown with Diane and her father. Her father clearly does not have a clean conscience, yet he
believes that his way is justified and correct. Diane realizes that her father is misguided upon critical
review of the situation. This disillusionment with old society society established prior to the newest
generation is very common in young people. They realize that the accepted normal is reprehensible
and needs to change. Meanwhile, old society has a difficult time seeing the flaws in their ways or
changing. Jim Court is a symbol for all of old society, trying to justify his transgressions and
ultimately failing to change his ways as evidenced by the scene at the prison. Diane Court giving him
the pen was symbolic of her moving on into her own life, rejecting the ideas of old society. This idea
is not only challenging old people to look at how set in their beliefs they have become, but also
challenging young people to make changes in their own lives so that they do not succumb to the
problematic nature of the old

Examples Of Absurdity In Waiting For Godot
Oxford dictionary defines absurdity as the state or quality of being ridiculous or widely unreasonable
and this can be strongly felt in Samuel Beckett s play Waiting for Godot . Actually, this play is well
known as the Theater of Absurd due to its totally different genre of drama. The difference in genre is
mainly due to the plot, the characters, the incoherence and repetitiveness in the conversations and
actions which bring the audience to view this play as a complete change from the traditional type of
drama.
The choice of characters in Waiting for Godot appear to come from a mad house. The main ones,
Vladimir and Estragon seem to be struggling in their life where they have little if no memory of how
their days passed by, What did we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, being spiritually dead is like being a living zombie. Talking about spirituality does not
only refers to God but to one s belief. One cannot call it life if he is not free of his actions and
thinking. The modern man is running against time, trying to make money to buy happiness. He does
not have time to question his existence as the definition of one s existence is somehow formed by the
society and its surrounding. A typical example will be where people uses religion as excuses for their
actions trying to make as if their religion defines themselves. Samuel Beckett play s Waiting for Godot
can be referred as pure absurdity but even nowadays people as still waiting for Godot. They are either
waiting for God to come on earth as in the Judaism religion where they are still waiting for the
messiah to come and take them to the promise land (Isaiah 2: 4) or waiting for Death to come an
deliver them from their struggles. Who is Godot? We have no idea of the existence of this thing or
person. Same apply to people s faith. As what is faith? Ii is to have trust in something or someone that
one s has never seen. But this is what keep people alive, to have faith in the unknown. Man wants
freedom and happiness but one cannot find it by doing nothing. As Andy hunt (2008) perfectly said

It Is The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
It s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
Throughout the year, there are many occasions that bring my family together to celebrate. We
celebrate birthdays, baptisms, and generally when the sun is shining bright. However, there is one
holiday that stands out as my favorite, Christmas. It is a time of year with lots of fun and cheer.
Although this statement is cliché, it is also true. It is the time of year when the world is kinder; joy and
good will are spread through the world. In my family, Christmas brings us together to celebrate each
other in love at the end of the year. It is a time when we show a little more kindness to a stranger,
laugh and commune with each other, and fill our bellies with food.
Christmas is the time of year when the best of human nature shines through. People spend more time
saying hello and goodbye. We show gratitude for little things that we would normally ignore. One
tends to reflect on the blessings they received throughout the year.
They reflect on the things that are most important like family and friendship, good health, and well
being. Generally even the shrewdest and grouchiest person, is slightly nicer during this time of year.
Strangers give to charities and homeless shelters. People give their time by volunteering in soup
kitchens and hospitals. Although these random acts of kindness should be displayed more throughout
the year, it is nice to observe during Christmas.
The meaning of Christmas is important to me because it brings

A Theory Of Ontology And A Position On The Problem Of...
To understanding how we use language to describe the world, we need theories to describe and
explain our reality. The title quote is taken from Willard Van Orman Quine s, On What There Is , in
which he presents a theory of ontology and a position on the problem of universals. The problem of
universals questions the existence of universals. Universals are properties and relations which are held
in common by shared qualities. In comparison, particulars are concrete entities. The debate is centred
around two opposing viewpoints nominalist and realists. Realists believe in universals, nominalists do
not. While realists endorse both universals and particulars, nominalists reject the notion of universals
and only accept the existence of particulars. Consequently, there is disagreement among philosophers
whether universals exist. Discussion of the titled quote follows an examination of the One Over Many
argument which leads to the problem of universals. In this essay, I show that I agree with the title
statement and will argue in favour of a nominalist account of universals. I will focus primarily on
Quine s argument for nominalist semantics. This argument will be presented by questioning the
universal redness and the role of meanings. In examining arguments made by Armstrong and
subsequently presenting a response to these critiques via the analysis of Devitt, I will also discuss the
infinite regress problem and the validity of the One Over Many argument. My conclusion will be

The Effects Of Related Words On The Short Term Verbal...
The effect of related words on the short term verbal memory of psychology students.
The aim of the investigation is to research the use of semantically grouped words, to aid memory
recall. This relates to studies such as the Method of Loci which believed since all the words are
connected in an environment they are easier to remember as they are associated together. [1] The
experimental hypothesis is that the number of words recalled will be increased by the words being
related. Laboratory experiment was the method used, in a lecture theatre setting and a within
participant s design. Twenty, first year psychology students, ages 17 to 38 years old, were studied on
their ability to recall words read out by the examiner after a period of time. In the first condition the
words were unrelated while in the second condition the words were all related together and this caused
an increase in the participants remembering them. In condition one the mean number of words
recalled was 6.6 with the highest score being 9, while on the other hand, condition two had a mean of
10.2 words recalled and the highest scoring participant got 12 words correct.
Introduction
Memory has been shown to be a model, involving a process that requires attention for the information
to enter the short term memory. Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) believed that if the information is then
rehearsed, it is moved into the long term memory. [2] The aim of the experiment was to test whether

Andrew Bacevich Has Taken The Position That The U.S. Is
Andrew Bacevich has taken the position that the U.S. is more militaristic today than it has ever been. I
do agree with his belief that the U.S. has been advocating or pursuing an aggressive military policy for
quite some time. What is true about our militaristic posture, it remains unchanged even before the War
on Terrorism was ever fabricated. The resolution of the U.S. population to forge with its military for
two world wars which the use of atomic bomb and the overarching effect of inflicting maximum
destruction on population centers brought discussion of world leaders together for termination in
usage. The world s occupants had never fully recovered from the policy consequences regarding the
use of thee atomic bomb; however, since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an effort to provide protection for our international interest our political leadership point of view is
to show militaristic prowess. Mr. Bacevich has mentioned several examples regarding excessive
spending within the Department of Defense (DOD) that dwarfs those of America s closest allies. Also
noted, Mr. Bacevich explained that the Navy maintains several large attack aircraft carriers; however,
in the battle fleets of the world, there is no ship even comparable to a Nimitz class carrier. The
question is why do we continue to move away from the general principle to maintain the minimum
force required. I think because we are living in a capitalist society the power of money is at the
forefront. The DOD is an industrial military conglomerate.
Now is the question, is it good or bad for the U.S. to be militaristic? Well, I feel it is good to be
militaristic within limits of our national interest and international presence. A statement made by
President Bush in regards to the 9/11 attacks was that this country must go on the offense and stay on
the offense. Like so many American, we were lead to believe that this war was justified; however, we
were really fooled

Public Green Spaces At The Mouth Of Mill Creek
[Introduction]
Cincinnati s riverfront is misused and neglected. Once the backbone of the city s economic activity,
much of it now lies vacant and abandoned. Scarred by the derelict remains of its industrial past and cut
off from the city by roads and railways, these sites are largely forgotten by the public and show little
signs of their untapped potential.
The landscape is in clear need of repair.
In some other locations, sections of the waterfront have been converted into riverfront parks. While
such public green spaces are an important factor in the success of a city, we should not be content with
merely building a standard park. Cities should use the elements given to them in their landscape to
create placemaking spaces unique to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reality, there is no evidence of residential or recreational activities taking place in the area. In some
places the riverfront was used as a construction material dump site, with evidence of the waste being
burned on site.
Non commercial use is hampered by a lack of accessible and legal ways into the site. The site is
currently almost completely blocked off by railroads and raised roadways, with the exception of a
private road entrance on the east end, making trespassing required to access the riverfront. In addition,
the banks along the river are steep and highly susceptible to erosion. No access to the water is possible
with these conditions.
The site is completely within the flood zone and temporary flood protection only exists a fourth of a
mile beyond the site. The area along the river and mill creek is in the floodway, meaning even minor
flooding affects the area. The rest of the site is within the 100 year floodplain, meaning it has annual
flood probability of 1%.
[Proposal]
The landscape itself can serve as protection from flooding. By raising the elevation along the
riverfront, water is held back from the city. This can be done with a series of berms. When looking at
FEMA s flood maps we can see that already there are two natural exceptions to the floodplain. On the
site there are two existing berms excluded from the floodplain zone providing protection to the area
beyond them.
Innately, the landscape can be employed as

about five feet in length, with its tail adding another 3 feet and over 200 pounds. It can range from a

More data on success probabilities may help to direct the course of action
We would also like to have information about the willingness of production companies to sell sequel
rights at a pre negotiated price. Action Plan: Given our analysis of the motion picture industry, we
recommend that Arundel carefully select the major film studios from which they intend to purchase
sequel rights. The net present value of hypothetical sequels taken from the available previous years
shows not only that the industry is highly volatile, but also that certain production studios are more
volatile than others in terms of their recent performance. In addition, some studios are consistently less
profitable than others. (See NPV for Each Production Company chart in appendix) Since the success
of film studios are relatively stable in the short term (see Rental Shares of Major Film Distributors
table and graph) Because of this stability, it is possible for Arundel to approach more profitable studios
with their offer to purchase sequel rights. Out of all the major film studios, only MCA Universal,
Warner Bros., and The Walt Disney Company generate a positive net present value on a per film basis.
However, according to casual inquiries, it is unlikely that any movie studio would enter negotiations
with Arundel on a per film price that is less than 1 million. Instead, the film studios seem to

Reagan Administration s Foreign Policy in Latin America
Throughout the Cold War the United States considered the installation in Latin America of radical
regimes socialist, Marxist Leninist, or leftist in any way to be utterly intolerable. Any such
development would represent an advance for the communist cause and a vital loss for the West.
Acceptance of this outcome could weaken the credibility of the United States as the leader of the west

the Western Hemisphere would have dire and perilous implications for U.S. national security and for

In El Salvador, a mountainous coffee growing country of 5 million citizens was ruled by an unholy

Essay on Taking a Look at African-American Cinema
The United States has long been a country that has accepted that change is a necessity for prosperity
and growth. However, each change within the nation s history was hard fought against those who
resisted such change either through racism, bigotry, and blatant discrimination. African American
cinema is enshrouded in history that depicts these themes of racism, struggle, and deprivation. Yet,
this same cinema also shows scenes of hope, artistic spirit, intellectual greatness, and joy. Black
actresses, actors, directors, producers, and writers have been fighting for recognition and respect since

Often in many films that undermine African Americans, they are depicted as thief s, murders, or
unintelligent. These images are used to show that African Americans are unlike their white
counterparts. According to Friedman, This formulation undermines the racially and sexually based
violence toward African Americans, wiping out the memory of rape, castration, and lynching of slaves
that occurred in the past (Friedman). The development of African American films, or films that truly
put African Americans in any type of positive light did not really start to occur until the 1970 s or
1980 s. Before then films were often negative in spirit. Paula Massood describes the Hollywood
depictions of African Americans in the previous era as, failing to recognize the sociopolitical changes
in the American landscape. African American characters most often appeared within a southern
setting, largely ignoring the black city space and culture that figured in the lives and the imaginations
of a vast majority of African Americans (Massood). However, in the following years the development
and progression of African American films was able to be seen. First, it is important to note that black

Structure of Family Due to the influence of Modernization and Globalization, there has been definite
change in the family structure and the original structure of family has been undergoing changes. The
nuclear Family has become the fashion and is taking the place of joint family system. In the past, the
joint family system was much prevalent in this community. But in the younger generation nuclear
family system is practiced at larger scale. During research it also came in limelight that in the past
majority of the families were large, but in the present time the family size has been changing rapidly.

equity (debt/equity) ratio.

The Importance Of Interracial Marriage
History has its fair share in learning to accept different customs and cultural aspects in many
countries. Interracial marriage, for example, was legalized just fifty years ago in the United States and
questioned whether or not the cohesion of two different races through culture is a positive outcome.
Despite the worrisome idea of clashing beliefs, interracial marriage can open a new learning
experience and bring acceptance amongst mixing cultures, races, and religions.
To start off, the cohesion of different races through marriage have reactions that vary widely around
the world. In the United States, at least one in six newlyweds in 2015 are involved in an interracial
marriage (Holland 2017). Consequently, as interracial marriage arises, some sites such as
https://texasformarriage.org, suggest that these relationships allow for the ability to learn more about a
new culture and to chip away at stereotypes formed by society. With this new learning curve, people
are more open to accept different viewpoints as they learn from their significant other, especially if
they still hold up to many traditions passed on by their family. To add on, as people begin to learn
more about other cultures that surround them, they open up to having a new perspective about
differing cultures and naturally break away from the stereotypes built by society. Thus, as interracial
marriage becomes more common, acceptance of other cultures and cultural beliefs increases as well.

The Power of Great Expectations and Jane Eyre Essay example
The Power of Great Expectations and Jane Eyre
Many novels have been written in many different eras. Each era has its `reform novel or piece of
literature, or pieces of work that broke the mold . For the Greeks, it was Homer s Odyssey; for the
Renaissance, it was The Essays: Of Cannibals by Michel de Montaigne; for the Medieval era, it was
Dante Alighieri s Inferno. It was the same in the Victorian era, which ran from 1850 to about 1900.
The reform authors were Charlotte Brontë and Charles Dickens. These two authors wrote Jane Eyre
and Great Expectations, respectively. Through these novels, the authors have epitomized the Victorian

Needless to say, Mr. Rochester and Jane fell in love. However, Jane did not want to marry. Except that
her love grows too strong, Jane puts aside her stubbornness for love.
My future husband was becoming to me my whole world; and more than the world: almost my hope
of heaven. He stood between me and every thought of religion, as an eclipse intervenes between man
and the broad sun. I could not, in those days, see God for his creature: of whom I had made an idol.
(Brontë: ch 25)
Jane then relents and marries Rochester. Jane made the journey from explosive, to independent, to in

Pip, the main character of Great Expectations, is an orphaned boy who is one the quintessential round

Mrs. Joe, and her husband, Joe Gargery. When Pip was asked to steal from Mrs. Joe and Joe by a

If I slept at all that night, it was only to imagine myself drifting down the river on a strong spring tide,

However, also in the decades before 1992, the principle influenced to a large extent the evolution of
the European Communities.
As P. De Pasquale lines out, there had been an increasingly frequent recourse to Article 235 of the EC
treaty (later on art. 308 EC), which enhances the competences of the Community for the purpose of
crating a common market . The Community exercised its power in fields that where not explicitly
listed in any Treaty, but which it identified as sensible sectors (e.g. monetary policy). This ambiguous
development alarmed the Member States that subsequently pointed out the principle of subsidiarity, as
they wanted to secure their protagonist role within the process of European integration.
The first functional achievements for the Member States took place at the beginnings of the 70s with
the so called Tindeman report. In this report of the Commission on the European Union (5/1975) the
principle is explicitly mentioned. It contains the idea that the objective of the Community should not
be becoming a centralized super state , but rather should concentrate on attributing more powers to
regional and national institutions.
A second weighty step was taken through a draft resolution (Draft Treaty Establishing the European
Union) written by A. Spinelli, adopted by the European Parliament in 1984. Again, it was affirmed
that the Union should be regarded as a proper juridical person whose

Is The Narrator Unreliable In Bartleby The Scrivener
Is the Narrator Unreliable in Bartleby the Scrivener ? Melville created something new in Bartleby the
scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to
one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first
sentence I am a rather elderly man . Instead of taking him right away as a wise old man who is giving
us the story straight, look for contradictions in his narration. His prudence and method might easily
translate into words like greedy or miserly. He claims to be mild mannered but is furious about the
abolition of his former job because he counted on doing little or no work, and making enormous
profits (Melville 406). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

belligerent while working, but rather content that they do not rebel at the same time. A Narrator is just
a person. He is not a particularly kind and understanding man, nor is he an unusually outspoken one.

Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall Essay
Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall
In Ballad of Birmingham, Dudley Randall illustrates a conflict between a child who wishes to march
for civil rights and a mother who wishes only to protect her child. Much of this poem is read as
dialogue between a mother and a child, a style which gives it an intimate tone and provides insight to
the feelings of the characters. Throughout the poem the child is eager to go into Birmingham and
march for freedom with the people there. The mother, on the other hand, is very adamant that the child
should not go because it is dangerous. It is obvious that the child is concerned about the events
surrounding the march and wants to be part of the movement. The child expresses these feelings in a

shows the mother?s inability to see her daughter?s desire to go march as anything more than a childish
fancy. The mother?s attitude toward the march is an unreasonable fear for her child?s safety, a state of
mind that alludes to her detachment from the events and opinions that fuel the march. When compared
to that of the child, the mother?s approach to the march is that of one who is uninformed and
unconcerned.
The mother?s detachment and idealism lead her to believe that the church is the safest place for her
child. She feels that upon entering the church, the child will be removed from the world around her
and the violence that engulfs it. This also points to the mother?s belief that remaining oblivious to the
source of the civil unrest will make them disappear. When she tells the child to go to the church, she is
in effect showing her feelings that attending church is the important thing to do and that the problems
of the world outside will be resolved without any further effort.
When the mother sends her child off to church, she brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts white shoes
and gloves on her. This effort put into creating an image of beauty and peace in her child shows that
the mother is trying to forget about the suffering of the people who are fighting for freedom that she is
doing nothing to aid. When she sees her child this way, she feels that she has

In Fact I Love That Fawn By Paul Albar
In Medieval Al Andalus, many religions took control through the middle ages. This continuous
variation of control raised questions about the value of peace. Peace can be defined as a state in which
physical battles or fights do not occur. Indeed, when people were often settled, fighting did not have a
great presence, and peace was often valued as long as people did not interfere with another s religion.
However, peace often came with people in subtle disagreements about the way of living. These
disagreements, such as some spoken of by Paul Albar and Shmuel Hanagid, were more private and
would rarely infringe peace. In addition, peace was often forgotten when someone began interfering
with another s beliefs. In general, the Treaty of Tudmir laid out the foundations for which peace would
stand upon. The treaty displays how people valued peace, but also holds flaws that could have lead to
people in disagreement. The treaty outlines how sacred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses poetry to express his disagreement. Once again, like Albar, he does not attempt to infringe on
peace. Hanagid expresses how homosexuality is wrongly frowned upon by people of all religions.
Therefore, throughout the peace people feel, Hanagid fails to find peace for himself. One poem that
can outline this is In Fact I Love That Fawn. From previous poems, the fawn represents a lover,
mostly perceived as another man. In the poem, Hanagid metaphorically describes a sexual act with the
man. Hanagid concludes by saying that it is a sin on him. In other words, he is aware how
homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God and his believers. As many people can come to peace on the
fact of their religion being against homosexuality, Hanagid is an outlier, like Paul Albar, as he
disagrees with this characteristic of peace. Still, the disagreement does not infringe peace, but
Hanagid, as well as Albar, takes less value to these ideas of

Heroic Characters in The Lord of the Rings Saga Essay
Throughout literary history, heroes are usually described as being good looking and tall. People who

Unemployment Participation Rate
Participation rates in the comprehensive measure of the level of active section of the economic labor
force that are looking for employment or are employed. The index of measure indicates the average

John Bosco Research Paper
John Bosco came into this world on August 16, 1815 inside a cabin in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Italy.

He gave up being a father in his own family to become a father or friend to those who do not have

love. He spent his entirety spreading the message that it is important to open yourself to love and help
those who are more poor than you. Saint John Bosco knew that life was a gift from God and that it
should be lived well. That is how God would want

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... THE MAJOR FIGURES IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PENTECOSTAL MOVEMENT IN AMERICA We now come to the section devoted to the major pioneers in the beginning of Pentecostalism in America. The first person we want to discuss is Charles Fox Parham. He is the man generally recognized as the formulation of Pentecostal doctrine and the theological founder of the movement. Parham held to the theological argument that tongues are always the initial evidence of a person receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He also taught the necessity of being baptized with the Holy Spirit as the only way to escape the great tribulation. In October 1900 Parham opened a bible school in Topeka, Kansas and in December he led his students through a study of the tenets of the Holiness movement. The students came to study the book of Acts and during the study Parham asked them to find scriptural evidence of the baptism with the Holy Spirit. It was out of this study that led Parham to the conclusion this was the biblical way a person received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Parham moved to Houston Texas and started a church and bible school. It was at this school where a student name William Joseph Seymour, a black man attended the training sessions that Parham taught. Because of the laws of segregation at the time Seymour was forced to sit in the hallway and listen to the teachings of Parham. Seymour desired

  • 4. Controversial Benefits Of Maternity And Paternity Leave Maternity and Paternity leave are controversial benefits that only some working men and women across the world receive. The length or payment of maternity and paternity leave depends on the country or even the company the employee works in. Most working people are completely for maternity and paternity leave, because it allows for families to adapt to and care for the new baby in their home. In general, people against maternity and paternity leave claim it is bad for businesses and the economy in general. Maternity and paternity leave are times when employees leave work to deliver or care for a newly born child. Most people are for maternity and paternity leave, because working parents need money from working and typically want to be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Murphy makes a case stating these leaves simply hurt women. Murphy s main points are that maternity leave is bad for business, because it is too expensive for them, and bad for women, because companies will not want to hire or promote women if they have to go without them for months and pay them for that time away. The K and K article claims essentially the same things about maternity leave, but both are misleading. First, maternity leave is not bad for businesses, because, as shown in the study by Arnarson et al., parental leaves actually promote work productivity and leads to more women joining the workforce overall. Secondly, it is against the law, in the United States and many other countries, for companies to not hire somebody, because they are a woman or because they are pregnant. Therefore, that argument is completely insignificant anyway. Most arguments against parental leave are not applicable or are incorrect, as shown by all of the studies mentioned ... • 5. A Study of Four Classical Chinese Poems One subject that seems salient in the four classical Chinese poems included in the reading is social status. I use this term loosely because in The Charcoal Seller and On the Birth of His Son social status is probably best understood by the western designation of social class, but in Woman and Mei Yao Ch en social status is better understood as part of gender relations. However, I think that the more generalized designation of social status is appropriate in approaching these four poems, because of the way it illustrates the Confucian concept of ren, usually translated as goodness or virtue . This is very different, however, from most western notions of goodness or virtue because in Confucianism the concept is defined in terms of social relationships: for Confucius, there were five specifically defined social relationships in which one should exhibit ren . These are the relations of a parent to a child, of an older sibling to a younger sibling, of a husband to a wife, of an older person to a younger person, and of a ruler toward a subject. In other words, relationships which might risk a potential power imbalance are governed by right rules of conduct. In these terms, we can see the workings, or failings, of the socially defined ren in these four poems. This is most clear and obvious in The Charcoal Seller (Waley 1919), which demonstrates the failure of ren in the final category, the virtuous or right relationship between a ruler and his ... RIDDIR Legislation In an engineering workplace it is important for the employee to report accidents as this is part of the RIDDIR legislation and this needs to be followed by the engineering industry. By following the legislation you can prevent any accident or incidents occurring to any employee or employer within any workplace. Ill health and accidents are quite common at work because this happened in 2011/12, 1.1 million people who were working were suffering from illnesses, and some people believed that the illnesses were caused from or made worse from their current work or their past work. We record and report at work because it is a legal requirement under The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). RIDDOR sets a legal obligation on: the employers, the self employed people, and the people who are in control of the premises. These responsible people will need to report and record incidents, diseases, injuries and any dangerous occurrences that will involve employees, the self employed workers and all members of the public. The evidence provided through the recording and reporting will allow authorities such as HSE or local authority Environmental Health, to find out where, what and how the risks arises and to also search for serious accidents. Use of the evidenced based information found in the literature review provided the writer with information to change clinical practice. It was evident that a foot check program was needed in the writer s hemodialysis unit to prevent foot complications because of the high incidence of diabetes and peripheral vascular disease. Jesse Owens, the first American in Olympic Track and Field history to win four gold medals in a single Olympiad said it best, People come out to see you perform and you ve got to give them the best you have within you. The lives of most men are patchwork quilts. Or at best one matching outfit with a closet and a laundry bag full of incongruous accumulations. A lifetime of training for just 10 seconds. (Jesse Owens) The athletic events included foot races, discus, javelin, long jump, wrestling, boxing. The first record of a running event was a 600 foot long race. The first champion was a cook named Koroibos. The race took place in a stadium near the city of Elis during the ancient Olympic Games in the year of 776 B.C. It presents the development of a highschool relationship between a burnout and the class valedictorian. While filled with lighthearted humor, the film carries a deeper message when he context of society is taken into account. Say Anything challenges gender stereotypes, societal standards for young people, and relationship dynamics. Lloyd is presented externally as an incredibly pedestrian character in the film. Meanwhile, old society has a difficult time seeing the flaws in their ways or changing. Jim Court is a symbol for all of old society, trying to justify his transgressions and ultimately failing to change his ways as evidenced by the scene at the prison. Diane Court giving him the pen was symbolic of her moving on into her own life, rejecting the ideas of old society. Examples Of Absurdity In Waiting For Godot Oxford dictionary defines absurdity as the state or quality of being ridiculous or widely unreasonable and this can be strongly felt in Samuel Beckett s play Waiting for Godot . Actually, this play is well known as the Theater of Absurd due to its totally different genre of drama. The difference in genre is mainly due to the plot, the characters, the incoherence and repetitiveness in the conversations and actions which bring the audience to view this play as a complete change from the traditional type of drama. In my opinion, being spiritually dead is like being a living zombie. Talking about spirituality does not only refers to God but to one s belief. One cannot call it life if he is not free of his actions and thinking. The modern man is running against time, trying to make money to buy happiness. He does not have time to question his existence as the definition of one s existence is somehow formed by the society and its surrounding. A typical example will be where people uses religion as excuses for their actions trying to make as if their religion defines themselves. Samuel Beckett play s Waiting for Godot can be referred as pure absurdity but even nowadays people as still waiting for Godot. We celebrate birthdays, baptisms, and generally when the sun is shining bright. However, there is one holiday that stands out as my favorite, Christmas. It is a time of year with lots of fun and cheer. Although this statement is cliché, it is also true. It is the time of year when the world is kinder; joy and good will are spread through the world. In my family, Christmas brings us together to celebrate each other in love at the end of the year. It is a time when we show a little more kindness to a stranger, laugh and commune with each other, and fill our bellies with food. Christmas is the time of year when the best of human nature shines through. People spend more time saying hello and goodbye. We show gratitude for little things that we would normally ignore. One tends to reflect on the blessings they received throughout the year. They reflect on the things that are most important like family and friendship, good health, and well being. Generally even the shrewdest and grouchiest person, is slightly nicer during this time of year. Strangers give to charities and homeless shelters. People give their time by volunteering in soup kitchens and hospitals. Although these random acts of kindness should be displayed more throughout the year, it is nice to observe during Christmas. • 12. A Theory Of Ontology And A Position On The Problem Of... To understanding how we use language to describe the world, we need theories to describe and explain our reality. The title quote is taken from Willard Van Orman Quine s, On What There Is , in which he presents a theory of ontology and a position on the problem of universals. The problem of universals questions the existence of universals. Universals are properties and relations which are held in common by shared qualities. In comparison, particulars are concrete entities. The debate is centred around two opposing viewpoints nominalist and realists. Realists believe in universals, nominalists do not. While realists endorse both universals and particulars, nominalists reject the notion of universals and only accept the existence of particulars. Consequently, there is disagreement among philosophers whether universals exist. Discussion of the titled quote follows an examination of the One Over Many argument which leads to the problem of universals. In this essay, I show that I agree with the title statement and will argue in favour of a nominalist account of universals. I will focus primarily on Quine s argument for nominalist semantics. This argument will be presented by questioning the universal redness and the role of meanings. In examining arguments made by Armstrong and subsequently presenting a response to these critiques via the analysis of Devitt, I will also discuss the infinite regress problem and the validity of the One Over Many argument. The aim of the investigation is to research the use of semantically grouped words, to aid memory recall. This relates to studies such as the Method of Loci which believed since all the words are connected in an environment they are easier to remember as they are associated together. [1] The experimental hypothesis is that the number of words recalled will be increased by the words being related. Laboratory experiment was the method used, in a lecture theatre setting and a within participant s design. Twenty, first year psychology students, ages 17 to 38 years old, were studied on their ability to recall words read out by the examiner after a period of time. In the first condition the words were unrelated while in the second condition the words were all related together and this caused an increase in the participants remembering them. In condition one the mean number of words recalled was 6.6 with the highest score being 9, while on the other hand, condition two had a mean of 10.2 words recalled and the highest scoring participant got 12 words correct. Introduction Memory has been shown to be a model, involving a process that requires attention for the information to enter the short term memory. Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) believed that if the information is then rehearsed, it is moved into the long term memory. The landscape is in clear need of repair. In some other locations, sections of the waterfront have been converted into riverfront parks. The site is currently almost completely blocked off by railroads and raised roadways, with the exception of a private road entrance on the east end, making trespassing required to access the riverfront. In addition, the banks along the river are steep and highly susceptible to erosion. No access to the water is possible with these conditions. The area along the river and mill creek is in the floodway, meaning even minor flooding affects the area. The rest of the site is within the 100 year floodplain, meaning it has annual flood probability of 1%. [Proposal] The landscape itself can serve as protection from flooding. By raising the elevation along the riverfront, water is held back from the city. This can be done with a series of berms. In addition, some studios are consistently less profitable than others. However, also in the decades before 1992, the principle influenced to a large extent the evolution of the European Communities. As P. De Pasquale lines out, there had been an increasingly frequent recourse to Article 235 of the EC treaty (later on art. 308 EC), which enhances the competences of the Community for the purpose of crating a common market . The Community exercised its power in fields that where not explicitly listed in any Treaty, but which it identified as sensible sectors (e.g. monetary policy). This ambiguous development alarmed the Member States that subsequently pointed out the principle of subsidiarity, as they wanted to secure their protagonist role within the process of European integration. The first functional achievements for the Member States took place at the beginnings of the 70s with the so called Tindeman report. In this report of the Commission on the European Union (5/1975) the principle is explicitly mentioned. It contains the idea that the objective of the Community should not be becoming a centralized super state , but rather should concentrate on attributing more powers to regional and national institutions. A second weighty step was taken through a draft resolution (Draft Treaty Establishing the European Union) written by A. Spinelli, adopted by the European Parliament in 1984. Again, it was affirmed that the Union should be regarded as a proper juridical person whose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Is The Narrator Unreliable In Bartleby The Scrivener Is the Narrator Unreliable in Bartleby the Scrivener ? Melville created something new in Bartleby the scrivener; as a well known story the narrator that tells the story is unreliable because he sounds bias to one of the character in the story. For example from the book first clue he gives us comes in the first sentence I am a rather elderly man . Instead of taking him right away as a wise old man who is giving us the story straight, look for contradictions in his narration. His prudence and method might easily translate into words like greedy or miserly. He claims to be mild mannered but is furious about the abolition of his former job because he counted on doing little or no work, and making enormous profits (Melville 406). ... • 34. Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall Essay Ballad of Birmingham by Dudley Randall In Ballad of Birmingham, Dudley Randall illustrates a conflict between a child who wishes to march for civil rights and a mother who wishes only to protect her child. Much of this poem is read as dialogue between a mother and a child, a style which gives it an intimate tone and provides insight to the feelings of the characters. Throughout the poem the child is eager to go into Birmingham and march for freedom with the people there. The mother, on the other hand, is very adamant that the child should not go because it is dangerous. It is obvious that the child is concerned about the events surrounding the march and wants to be part of the movement. The child expresses these feelings in a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... shows the mother?s inability to see her daughter?s desire to go march as anything more than a childish fancy. The mother?s attitude toward the march is an unreasonable fear for her child?s safety, a state of mind that alludes to her detachment from the events and opinions that fuel the march. When compared to that of the child, the mother?s approach to the march is that of one who is uninformed and unconcerned. The mother?s detachment and idealism lead her to believe that the church is the safest place for her child. She feels that upon entering the church, the child will be removed from the world around her and the violence that engulfs it. This also points to the mother?s belief that remaining oblivious to the source of the civil unrest will make them disappear. When she tells the child to go to the church, she is in effect showing her feelings that attending church is the important thing to do and that the problems of the world outside will be resolved without any further effort. When the mother sends her child off to church, she brushes her hair, bathes her, and puts white shoes and gloves on her. This effort put into creating an image of beauty and peace in her child shows that the mother is trying to forget about the suffering of the people who are fighting for freedom that she is doing nothing to aid. • 36. In Fact I Love That Fawn By Paul Albar In Medieval Al Andalus, many religions took control through the middle ages. This continuous variation of control raised questions about the value of peace. Peace can be defined as a state in which physical battles or fights do not occur. Indeed, when people were often settled, fighting did not have a great presence, and peace was often valued as long as people did not interfere with another s religion. However, peace often came with people in subtle disagreements about the way of living. These disagreements, such as some spoken of by Paul Albar and Shmuel Hanagid, were more private and would rarely infringe peace. In addition, peace was often forgotten when someone began interfering with another s beliefs. In general, the Treaty of Tudmir laid out the foundations for which peace would stand upon. The treaty displays how people valued peace, but also holds flaws that could have lead to people in disagreement. The treaty outlines how sacred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses poetry to express his disagreement. Once again, like Albar, he does not attempt to infringe on peace. Hanagid expresses how homosexuality is wrongly frowned upon by people of all religions. Therefore, throughout the peace people feel, Hanagid fails to find peace for himself. One poem that can outline this is In Fact I Love That Fawn. From previous poems, the fawn represents a lover, mostly perceived as another man. In the poem, Hanagid metaphorically describes a sexual act with the man. Hanagid concludes by saying that it is a sin on him. In other words, he is aware how homosexuality is a sin in the eyes of God and his believers. As many people can come to peace on the fact of their religion being against homosexuality, Hanagid is an outlier, like Paul Albar, as he disagrees with this characteristic of peace. Still, the disagreement does not infringe peace, but Hanagid, as well as Albar, takes less value to these ideas of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
