Feeding Technique

• Types:
• 1. Filter Feeders
• 2. Scavengers
• 3. Ambush Feeders
• 4. Gulp and suck
• 5. Surface feeders
Filter Feeders

• Filter feeders suck in water and food like
 phytoplankton and zooplankton stick to
 filaments, which are then digested.

• These fish usually have very large mouths
and are located on the front of their head.
Scavengers

• These type of fish are the clean-up crew
 of the rivers/lakes.

• These fish eat anything that is organic
 (dead or alive).

• Mouths are usually located on the front or
 bottom of the head.
Ambush Feeders
• These fish hide and wait for a smaller fish
to swim by its mouth, and then they jump
 out and grab the prey.

• Predators may wait days for prey to swim.

• Their mouths are located on the front or
 top of their head.
Gulp and Suck
• These fish move around slowly, in a
stealth like mode and when they get near
prey they suck in water, which creates a
current that sucks the prey into the
 predators mouth.

• Their mouths are located on the front or
 top of their head.
Surface Feeders

• These fish feed off animals on the surface
of the water or out of the water.
• These fish usually have very developed
  eyes.
• These fish mouths are located on the top
  of their head.
Fish Diseases
• Ich – is an external parasite, looks like
little white dots all over the fish.
• Ich is the most common type of disease.
Fish Diseases
• Hole in the Head – caused by vitamin
deficiency or dirty water, skin breaks open
and you have a decay of tissue.
Fish Diseases
• Fungal Infections – see white patches
form on the fins and or body.
• Looks like pieces of cotton.
• Caused by dirty water and malnutrition.
