HOUSE RULES: #1-8 (General Cleanliness & Manners)
1. When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying “yes” or “no.” Just nodding your
head or saying any other form of yes or no is not acceptable.
2. Make eye contact. When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times. If
someone makes a comment, turn and face that person. When you are addressing a group, make
eye contact with everyone in the group.
3. Always say thank you when you are given something. There is no excuse for not showing
appreciation, even if you don’t want it.
4. If someone bumps into you, even if it wasn’t your fault, say, “Excuse me.”
5. When a visitor comes to the room or an announcement is made, immediately become silent
and wait for instruction.
6. When you cough, sneeze, or burp, it is appropriate to turn your head away from others and
cover your mouth with your upper arm or elbow. Afterward, you should say, “Excuse me.”
7. Flush the toilet and wash your hands after using the restroom.
8. Clean up after yourself. After eating, clean off your table and pick up any trash off of the floor,
even if it isn’t your mess. After class is over, clean up your area, push in your chair, and throw
away any trash you see.
House Rules #9-18 Behavior
9. If someone in the class wins a game or does something well, congratulate that person.
10. During discussions, respect other students’ comments, opinions, and ideas. When possible, make statements like “I
agree with John, and I also feel that…” or “I disagree with Betty. She made a good point, but I feel that…” or I think
George made an excellent observation, and it made me realize…”
11. Respond to the question asked. Do not ask your own question until you have answered the question asked. Do not
raise your hand to ask a question or make a comment that is unrelated to the discussion.
12. Wait until someone is done speaking to raise your hand and ask a question or make a comment.
13. Do not speak during class unless:
1. You raise your hand and you are called on.
2. You are asked a direct question and you are responding.
3. You are instructed otherwise (such as group work).
14. Do not smack your lips, sigh, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures.
15. If you win or do well at something, do not brag. If you lose, do not show anger.
16. When the class reads together, you must follow along. If you are called on to read, you must know exactly where we
are and begin reading immediately.
17. Answer all written questions with a complete sentence.
18. When transitioning from one part of the lesson to another, the change will be swift, quiet, and orderly. You should
be prepared for all parts of the class before the class begins.
House Rules #19-28 Behavior cont…
19. In the hallways, you will walk on the right side and at a moderate pace at all times. There is to be no yelling,
running, pushing, turning around, blocking, or standing.
20. If you ask for a reward for doing what has been asked of you, you will not receive anything. You should be
good and try your best because you are trying to better yourself, not because you are anticipating a reward.
21. You will make every effort to be as organized as possible.
22. If you are absent from a class, it is your job to find out what you missed and to turn in any assignments. Do
not wait for the teacher to contact you.

28. When in a line, walk single-file, two or three feet behind the person in front of you with your arms at your
sides. You should face forward at all times.
House Rules #29-35 Good Character
29. Surprise others by performing random acts of kindness. Go out of your way to
do something surprisingly kind and generous for someone without it being a
special occasion such as a birthday.
30. Stand up for what you believe in. You shouldn’t take no for an answer if your
