unknown solution concentration of HCl. KHP was first titrated with NaOH in order to create a
standardized solution of NaOH. This solution was used to titrate a known volume of the unknown 1

The poem The Moose by Elizabeth Bishop opens up by capturing the landscape and physical
appearance of the Nova Scotia coast, where Bishop was taken to live with her grandparents in her
younger days. As she is traveling to Boston she takes into account various images and perspectives she
is seeing and hearing. Like some of Bishop s previous poems, The Moose focuses on the beauty and
power of nature, and how nature can be almost a burden to our everyday life. Bishop does this by
including vivid imagery, syntax, and alliteration throughout the poem.
With Bishop being familiar with the Nova Scotia coast, she really has a connection in the poem with
the landscape and what is going on around her, which the reader can appreciate throughout the first
couple of stanzas. The reader can identify this connection with the vivid use of imagery Bishop
portrays. She starts out the poem describing the scenery and a little bit of the culture that has
surrounded her for most of her years. Lines 1 4 cite, From narrow provinces /of fish and bread and tea,
/ home of the long tides/ where the bay leaves the sea. With these particular lines, Bishop creates a
soothing and comfortable image and tone. She sets the mood of the poem by the repetitive syntactical
use of language. Bishop does a great job with this by having the reader appreciate what she is seeing
and displaying a meaning of what is behind these long tides and the bay.
She continues on with the third stanza describing the sunset

What about a conch bringing order and destruction? In the book Lord Of The Flies by William
Golding, there are a group of boys who get stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. This is
also happening during WWII. The boys assign each other roles. The leader is a boy named Ralph. A
group of hunters is lead by a boy named Jack. The first couple of days on the Island are fine. They
made a fire to signal anyone so that they can get rescued, and they made shelters. Later on in the story,
civilization quickly unravels as almost all the boys are taken over by their savage instincts because of
fear of this creature they call The Beast. In this story, there are many symbols based on objects and
colors. There is even a conch in this story. The conch in Lord Of The Flies begins as order, becomes a

of the story Lord Of The Flies the conch represents order. When Ralph and Piggy first found the
conch, they used it to call a meeting and alert the other boys where they were. On page 16 in Lord Of
The Flies, Piggy says to Ralph We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when

An interview protocol was utilized in this study. This instrument was designed to keep the face to face
interview on track and effective. So, for that reason, the questions for this interview were determined
by trying to create an instrument that would lead to the answers to the research questions.

Analyzing Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, And Nite Owl
Comic books have picked up popularity as a method for scholars to gain insight as to how society
confronts problems. The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and
how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan,
Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently.
To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of
the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the Human imagination takes two separate
images and transforms them into a single idea (McCloud 66). In his chapter blood in the gutter
McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect reader s sensibility. However,
violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too risqué also
happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character s sexuality will also take place in the gutter.
Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the
gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero s masculinity takes place there.
