I think internalized misogyny in American culture is detrimental to all genders, but especially
women. The objectification of women in media, culture, and daily life has proven harmful to the
opportunities and livelihoods of women. Once women are no longer viewed, as whole and valid
human beings, the subsequent rampant abuse and mistreatment imposed on them is rationalized
and accepted by society. I consider myself pro women, aligning myself with pro choice and anti
abuse movements, due to my partialities on the subject.
The most obvious source of towards my bias is the fact I m a woman, so the consequences of
sexism affect me directly. I suppose the intrinsic value of self preservation causes me to advocate
against it, since I would rather avoid experiencing the repercussions associated with misogyny than
face them firsthand. Combating society s oppressive attitudes increases my relative quality of life,
so one could consider my support for women s rights as a selfish endeavor. Branched off my own
personal attempt at self sustainability, is my willingness to empathize with other women. I hold the
tendency to deeply value women s rights because I recognize the struggles inflicted by the
patriarchal culture and society common to all women. I appreciate the quality of empathy because
it s important in all human relationships. I despise systematic sexism, because of its direct influence
