Energy Sources For Alternative Energy
The constant increase and release of carbon dioxide emissions into our environment have drastic
effects on our environment. These greenhouse gases warm the earth impacting its naturally occurring
events and processes, such as acid rain, destruction of natural habitats, and even influencing the
natural flow of the currents in our oceans. The goal has been to create diverse methods of generating
powerful, dependable energy sources that do not have negative repercussions on our environment.
Alternative energy refers to sources that do not create undesired consequences, such as fossil fuels do
(Alternative Energy 2015). Not only are emissions from fossil fuels concerning, but also these
resources are not going to be available for our use forever, making changes for alternative energy
sources a pressing topic of discussion. British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell, two of the world s
largest oil companies, predict that by 2050, one third of the world s energy will have to come from
some type of alternative energy source (Alternative Energy 2015). Constant growth of population,
climate changes, and depletion of fossil fuels makes it necessary for renewables to play a bigger role
in powering our world. These resources are often thought to be free sources of energy because they are
naturally occurring events used to form electric power (Alternative Energy 2015). In addition, all of
these forms have a large decrease in carbon emissions compared to conventional energy sources

Stephen Harper s Prime Minister Essay
Although, recent national election polls clearly show Stephen Harper could win a fourth term as
Canada s Prime Minister, Mr. Harper will in fact have a difficult time explaining a senate scandal, an
economic crisis, and insensitive domestic and foreign policies. Therefore, this election could very well
be the end of Mr. Harper s term as Prime Minister.
Stephen Harper s nine year reign as Canada s Prime Minister presents Mr. Harper as the most
controlling and iron fisted leader in Canadian history. Whether it is local, provincial, or federal
politics, a government s abuse of power often leads to a fall from grace. Stephen Harper s abuse of
power lies within the heart of the Conservative Party s entitlement and lack of transparency. Harper s

Domestic policies are a government s statement about its attitude toward their constituents. Mr. Harper
s policies make education unaffordable, science as unnecessary, arts as antigovernment, and the
middle class as expensive labor. The Prime Minister slashes subsidies and social programs with every
passing budget. Taxes have risen for the average Canadian while tax reform targets business and high
wage earners. Consequently, it is up to the middle class wage earner to carry the burden of taxation.
However, the Prime Minister thinks nothing of spending hundreds of millions of dollars destroying
Canada s identity throughout world as diplomats and peacekeepers. Canada has significantly reduced
its role in U.N. peacekeeping missions, reduced its importance in NATO, and has since contributed to
the control of the civil war in Syria. ISIS is a very real threat to world safety. Unfortunately, Mr.
Harper s handful of jet fighters has proved to be too costly and ineffective. In addition, Mr. Harper had
the audacity to ridicule Justin Trudeau for promising the Liberal Party would send clothing and
supplies to the victims of war torn Syria. Harper suggests these supplies would fall into the hands of
ISIS; therefore, the Liberal Party supports ISIS. A return to our rightful place in the world as
peacekeepers should be hotly debated in this

Evaluation Of Proposed Design And Necessary Corrective Action
Assignment No: 1
Title :
Review of proposed design and necessary corrective action is taking to consider and submit
publication/presentation details with review report.
Objectives :
1. Constructing a semantic taxonomy for the land cover classification of satellite images. 2.
Classifying satellite images according to their types such as vegetation, building, water etc.
3. Implementing MapReduce for processing large amount of data (Satellite Images).
Introduction :
Satellite images play a major role in today s world in real time event detection. These events may vary
from changing landforms, depleting glaciers to catastrophic events like earthquakes, tsunamis and
sand storms. The drastic changes after such events need to be monitored and capturing satellite images
for such event detection can be helpful. The idea behind this project is to detect the changing
landforms across different vegetations, store this data, classify it on the basis of certain specified
parameters and retrieve the classified data using well defined mechanisms. Segmentation and event
detection is highly scalable in satellite images. With the increasing need to have real time, classified
data for specific applications there is an increasing need to store this chunk of data in a distributed
environment to have better access. The basic idea to is to capture the satellite images and store them in
a distributed environment. The environment to be chosen is Hadoop Distributed Environment. Hadoop

Marilyn Monroe s Accomplishments
Actress Marilyn Monroe overcame a difficult childhood to become one of the world s biggest and
most enduring sex symbols. (Marilyn Monroe biography) Many think that Marilyn was a sex symbol
looking for attention but that was not all that she was. Marilyn Monroe is a very bold name that stands
out when someone would hear it. Something interesting is that Marilyn did not start off with this name
she started her life off as Norma Jeane Mortenson. Marilyn Monroe s name signifies her immortality.
Marilyn Monroe did not start her life as a well known star. She was born to Gladys Pearl Baker a

Marilyn started off being in movies but she was never really the star of the film until 1953 when the
movie Niagara came out. This movie is a very drama filled film. In this film Marilyn Rose is on a trip
to Niagara Falls with her older husband George, they meet another couple there, Polly and Ray. Once
they get to know each other Polly thinks Ray and Rose have something going on between them. In the
end Ray and Rose were planning on killing Rose s husband George. This was Marilyn s biggest movie
that made her popular. In the same year Marilyn starred in a movie called Gentleman Prefer Blondes.
This film was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or
Comedy. This is a big accomplishment not just for the movie but also for Marilyn as a person. Marilyn
Monroe was not just a star in movies, she also was the first Playboy Playmate in 1953. When Marilyn
Monroe is talked about she is normally talked about negatively. People always talk about how she is a
sex symbol. But that is not all she was. she was a lot more than just a sex symbol she went through a
lot as a child moving from one house to another. But people nowadays don t look at that, they don t
see that side of her. It may be because she wanted to forget about all of the things she went through
and that may be why she dyed her hair and had plastic surgery so she looked like a pretty star that

Exploring The Depth Of Romance And How Coppola s Dracula
Rationale:
My feature article will be exploring the depth of romance and how and why Coppola decided to
develop theses deep ideas of love. I will also be discussing Coppola s decision to use very old film
techniques. This is will allow the reader of the feature article to further understand why Coppola did
the things that he did and therefore allow them to have a better understanding of the film. I will also be
exploring the attitudes, values and beliefs that were held in the time period of the original novel and
how Coppola developed and presented that to a modern 90 s audience. TRUE LOVE S DARK BITE
Francis Ford Coppola s 1992 hit, Bram Stoker s Dracula, reimagines the timeless Dracula tale and
creates a twisted love story that allows contemporary audiences an insight into a surprisingly relatable
fable, as Taylor Ellison explores... Bram Stoker s Dracula
Love is not black and white and Francis Ford Coppola s ageless classic Bram Stoker s Dracula
epitomises the many layers that come with romance. The dark love story highlights the romance of the
gothic horror and still manages to convey the fear and terror that cemented the original novel as an
iconic and memorable classic. Coppola s imaginative view of a timeless tale embodies the gothic
genre, with strong themes of romance, sexuality and lust, as the complexity of love is exposed.
Coppola allows us an insight into his processes when creating this epic narrative.

Modern Societies And Its Impact On Society
Modern societies are described most effectively against the background of what came before them.
The process of modernity is reactive; it s meaning is derived by a comparison with, and by rejection or
negation of preceding agrarian and industrial societies. Traditional, or pre modern societies take as
their basic unit the community or the collective. The family constitutes production and consumption as
well as socialization, indicative of a rudimentary division of labour. Further, traditional societies
facilitate a worldview that is wholly comprehensive. Durkheim describes this as the collective
consciousness . People derive their outlook largely through the different ways that they interact with
society, and because these societies have high degrees of similarity, and a shared set of moral values
and beliefs, members experience the world in similar ways. In this contrasting view, modernization
can be viewed as a process of individualization, specialization and abstraction. In the structure of
modern society, the individual dominates the collective. The division of labour is complex. People
become alienated from the process of production as specialization increases and their occupations
become more specific, consequently disconnecting them from the products of their labour. Moreover,
modern societies facilitate a worldview that is abstract. While traditional societies are based on
similarity, modern societies are based on differences, thus differentiating the way

Migration of Turkic Tribes
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another to settle and live in the new area.
Nowadays, the number of moving people exceeds 200 million (World Migration Report 2010 The
Future of Migration: Building Capacities for Change. International Organization for Migration. 2010).
In the ancient times the number of moving people was little, but the causes were approximately the
same. Especially, migration of ancient Turks had a significant role in formulation of world
civilizations. Their migration periods cover several thousand years. The most famous migration stage
of Turks was in the II VII centuries, well known as Migration Period. Turkic tribes migrated and
spread their habitation because of three main factors. The first and the most significant cause of Turkic
migration is related to economic issues. Many Turkic tribes migrated because of crisis and famine in
their country. The famine derived from climate changes and severe climate in different periods. Living
in difficult life circumstances, Turkic tribes decided to move in order to find fruitful lands. Especially,
during the Migration Period, in 395, Huns (Turks) moved to Europe because of famine. Moreover,
some Turkic groups migrated to wide steppes in order to find and extend their pastures. While the
amount of people and cattle were increasing, it was difficult to accommodate animals with pastures.
For instance, Yuruks ( Walkers ), who initially settled in Eastern Anatolia, moved to Western Anatolia

How Does Water Balance Affects The Body
Water balance is regulated by the antidiuretic hormone (ADH). Osmolality receptors tell the body
when you re thirsty. When you have a high osmolality, the osmolality receptors tell your body to get
water. When water is lost through diarrhea, the body has baroreceptors receptors that are stimulated
from the depleted plasma volume which causes the release of ADH. The body releases natriuretic
peptides to keep the body in balance. ANP and BNP are released from the heart due to high pressures
and volume from too much fluid. It tells your kidneys to excrete water and sodium. Urodilatin is
released from the kidneys. The release of aldosterone affects the body by causing the kidneys to hold

Analysis Of A Midsummer Night s Dream
Gabriel Yeung Mr. Ross ENG1DE A January 17th 2014 Humor. Humor is a quality of an action that
causes amusement and entertainment. A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare
is a play best known in the Shakespearian world for being a comedy play. This play has entertained
countless audiences over a span of many centuries. A Midsummer Night s Dream is about two pairs of
lovers that escape to the forest in order to make love for one another. While doing so, fairies in the
forest create chaos which causes the lover to be confused in who they truly love. The misinterpretation
on their identity relates to the major theme of the play which is love versus lust and reality versus
illusions. The language the Shakespeare chose to use in the play to create an interesting plotline
creates humor as well as entertaining the audience. Among the language use, the literary devices that
are most prominent to make the play humorous are dramatic irony, enjambment, and imagery. These
devices not only entertain and create humor for the audience but also help develop a plotline in which
many are interested in. Dramatic irony is one of the most evident devices used in the play. The term
dramatic irony is defined as an idea/ plot that the reader or audience knows off in a story or play but
the character in the play do not. In A Midsummer Night s Dream, the existence of fairies is a major
dramatic irony. The fairies are the mystical creatures that inhibit and lurk around in the

Akan Drum
The perspective of the American slave trade as taught in school, often finds its point of reference from
what has been written by the Anglo Saxons and other European countries. To come across what it is
the slaves saw and felt and the persecution that they experienced, the oral passing of the experiences
they had is mostly all that historians obtain in regards to the slave s experiences. Though, a single
object, an Akan drum, helps to tell their story not with words, but with the rhythm of their trials.
African participation in the slave trade, consisted of two groups of African people: those who were
sold as slaves, and those who captured slaves in order to trade with European countries for goods.

The drum was something so much more than an instrument; it was their life line to their roots and the
only thing they had from their land. The drums also played a fundamental part of slave culture and
community once when they arrived to America. The use of drums was a source of entertainment but
also began to be used to announce rebellion against the plantation owners. The cultures of Europe and
Africa were merged together through the slave trade; often slave owners would have sexual relations
with slaves and have children that began the merging of these two cultures. Moreover, this drum had a
unique characteristic of being stretched over the drum in North American deer skin. The relationship
between Native Americans and African Americans is often not discussed, but is seen through this
drum due to the use of deer skin. Intermarriage between Natives and the slaves was quite common and
shows once again the mixing of cultures. A simple drum conceived in the wild of Africa, shares its
silent story of the hidden lives of the slaves of North America. It melody mixed three cultures that are
now one, and the beating of modern drums in jazz and blues gives reminder of a culture that once in

Paradise Lost Essay
Paradise Lost
The poem is divided up into 12 books. The verse is English heroic without rhyme, as that of Homer in
Greek, and of Virgil in Latin. (Knopf, 1996) This neglect then of rhyme so little is to be taken for a
defect, though it may seem so perhaps to vulgar readers, that it rather is to be esteemed an example
set, the first in English, of ancient liberty recovered to heroic poem from the troublesome and modern
bondage of writing. (Knopf, 1996)

He needs to pass through the gates of hell. They are guarded and shut. He states the purpose of his
journey to explore, and after some difficulty he is allowed to pass through with the help of Chaos who
is the power of that place. He is then on his way to the new world that he is seeking.
Book Three is then a prediction of the fall of man. God is sitting on his throne with His Son at His
side; they see Satan on his way to the newly created world. God foretells His Son of how Satan is able
to trick man, as man is free to make his own choices. Because of the choices that man makes, he must
die unless someone can be found who will answer to the sins of man, and will then take on the
punishment for these sins. The Son of God then freely offers Himself as the ransom for mankind, and
the Father accepts. There is then much celebration in heaven as they now have a plan to save mankind.
Satan arrives: thence comes to the gate of heaven, described ascending by stairs, and the water above

The Beatles Fashion Analysis
The Beatles and Fashion In the 1960 s four young men, John, George, Paul and Ringo, emerged on the
British music scene as a newly founded group, the Beatles. When they first became popular in
Liverpool, England, little did they know they would make such an impact on Britain s fashion scene.
The Beatles were able to transform Britain s fashion through their clothing style and their look. The
most influential year for the Beatles was 1963 due to their impact on fashion.
Background
The fashion scene of London in the 1960 s before the emergence of the Beatles was already vibrant
and thriving. Time Magazine dubbed London Swinging London , due to its hip feeling . The idea of
Swinging London emerged after the post war boom, and the 60 s were a time of change. According to
David Gilbert, London [metamorphosed] from a gloomy, grimy post War capital into a bright, shining
epicentre of style. Within Swinging London , there was a youth subculture called the Mods , which
stemmed from modernist, a term used in the 1950s to describe modern jazz musicians and fans. Being
Mod , meant that they were he people of the future , and ahead of their times. The mod s represented
one of the everyday youth counter cultures . The emergence of new clothing during the 1960 s
drastically affected the style and color of the clothing wore in London, Liverpool and as well as other
areas of Britian. Before this fashion revolution, London was a dull area, where everyone wore the
same colors, and there was not much variation in clothing style. According to Marissa Klein, In the
1940 s, England had no use for bright fashion. There was no need for bright fashion, because England
was at war. This revolution got rid of the Teddy boy look, which consisted of; Edwardian style suits,
sideburns and a collarless white t shirt. The other fashionable style was Beat style, and people that
wore the style were called Beatniks. Beatniks were people that dressed up like poets and wore all
black. The Beatles fashion was picked up by a subculture of the Swinging London movement, the
Mod s. As Lennon explained, Changing a lifestyle and the appearance of youth did not just happen.
We set out to do it. The beatles did not intentionaly

Big Wave Surfing Research Paper
Eddie Returns After A Six Year Absence
Eddie , a big wave competition, took place at Waimea Beach for the first time in six years this past
weekend. The waves that are critical to Big Wave surfing reached a record height as many of them
reached 60 feet this year. In order for a competition to be considered an Eddie , the waves must be
over 40 feet high and be sustainable all day. This year, El Nino played a big part to the height of these
waves as the weather pattern fueled the water and the creation of them.
Big Wave surfing has always drawn in a big crowd to the beaches of Hawaii in the winter. A record
number of people lined the beach to watch 28 elite and professional surfers take on the monster waves
off the bay. It was estimated that over 25,000 people came to the beach in awe of the getting the
chance to see the Eddie . Some people camped out for 24 hours in order to get a prime view of the
competition. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eddie Aikau was a Waimea Bay lifeguard and a surfing pioneer when it came to Big Wave surfing.
The legend says that not a single person was killed during his tenure as a lifeguard. He lost his life at

ancestors completed. The canoe Aikau and his team were in capsized twelve miles off the coast of the

The Theme Of Fear In Hide And Seek
The poems Hide and Seek , Remember and Do not go gentle into that good night have all displayed
the theme of fear at its best, using various techniques to achieve their desired effect. Hide and Seek
deals with the fear and nervousness an innocent young boy could experience as he first steps out into
the potentially dangerous, unrestful society, using a simple childhood game to highlight the stark
differences between childhood and adulthood. On the other hand, Remember copes with the torment
and anxiety Rossetti encounters of being potentially forgotten by her lover after death, although she
had given in to her view and instead wishes a better life for her partner, born out of a deep and devoted
love for him. Do not go gentle , however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas s previous respect for his father s strong and tall figure causes him to push aside acceptance
of death and rage against it, which people are powerless to stop. Even though Thomas is being
impulsive, he knows that Though wise men at their end know dark is right because their words had

death, they forked no lightning , suggesting that in spite of the wisdom some wise men possess, they
lack the ultimate power of nature, evincing how humans are weak and fragile against death. Even so,
Thomas chooses to vent his fury at death, which is similar to William Blake s The Tyger , where his
anger is directed at the people who had incited the industrial revolution. His anger is most evident
when he mocks them utilising a semantic field connoting to everyday tools of a blacksmith. What the
hammer? what the chain, in what furnace was thy brain? conveys his puzzlement at the creation of
such a sinister movement and his distaste at the society s current

Neuroticism, Conscientiousness And Conflict Style
Abstract The aim of this study is to examine neuroticism, conscientiousness and conflict style in
association to workplace bullying victimization. 132 Malaysian working adults from various
organizations will be recruited for this study using purposive sampling. Participants were asked to fill
up the personality shortened Big Five Personality questionnaire to measure (neuroticism,
conscientiousness) and conflict style questionnaire (a higher score would indicate more dominant
conflict styles) , followed by the Negative Acts Questionnaire Revised (a higher average score
represents more frequent and intense workplace bullying victimization). Multiple regressions analysis
will be used to test the correlation between the predictor and criterion variables. The researcher
hypothesizes that neuroticism, conscientiousness and conflict style will be significant predictors of
workplace bullying victimization. Neuroticism, Conscientiousness and Conflict Style on Workplace
Bullying Victimization in the Malaysian Working Population Workplace bullying has been identified
as a crucial work problem in the work environment because it causes more stress than all other kinds
of work related stress put together (Einarsen, Hoel, Zapf, Cooper, 2011). Workplace bullying is a
serious issue because it not only affects victims. Workplace bullying is a series issue because it not
only affects the targets, but even non bullied witnesses report significantly higher levels of stress than
employees from

Essay On Raw Gley Soil
The Main Soil Types of the UK
Terrestrial Raw Soils
These are soils consisting predominantly of unaltered mineral material that have no surface/sub
surface horizon attributed to soil forming processes (unless buried under a 730cm thick deposit from
the Holocene) (Avery, 1980;). These soils do not normally have continuous vegetation cover (Avery,
1980). They occur in very recently formed soil and may have a superficial organic or organo mineral
layer less than 5cm thick. Sometimes they have a buried horizon below 30cm of depth. (Thompson,
2007; Jarvis, 1984).
Raw Gley Soils
Raw gley soils are found within mineral material that has remained waterlogged since deposition
(Thompson, 2007). The soils are missing a distinctive top soil and contain gleyed subsurface horizons
(Avery, 1980). They also contain a mineral horizon which starts at 20cm and extends below 30cm
(Avery, 1980). Jarvis (1984) also states that the soils are distinctly mottled above 40cm depth. Raw
gley soil types are mostly confined to intertidal flats (Avery, 1980) or areas that represent various
stages in the development of salt marshes (Thompson, 2007).
Lithomorphic Soils
Contain a distinctive top soil that is humose or peaty and a substratum starting at 40cm in depth which
has been altered little (Avery, 1980; Buol, 1997). The soils do not contain a disturbed surface layer, the
B horizon is not podzolic, weathered or argillic (Avery, 1980; Buol, 1997) and the soil profile is
shallow (Ashman Puri, 2002).

Comparing Dracula And The Dearg-Due By Bram Stoker
Dracula still maintains a strong connection to modern day readers through its similarities to female
vampire myths from Europe, most of them including the male characters dominating the females. The
Dearg Due, an Irish vampire, is an example of a creature similar to those in Stoker s novel. According
to Kim, an author on Got Ireland, the Dearg Due is a legendary beauty, with blood red lips and pale
blonde hair, however, before turning into a monster, she had been given to a cruel man and suffered
terrible mental and physical abuse at the hands of her new husband. 1 As a mortal, she had no
influence on her life, and was married off to a abominable man just so her power hungry father could
earn more money and a higher social status. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stoker s character Dracula may have extraordinary powers, but he also has many weaknesses, leaving
him with a vulnerable aspect. Van Helsing explains that there are ways to defeat the Count such as: the
garlic that we know of... this symbol, my crucifix... [and] the branch of wild rose on his coffin (Stoker
256, XVIII).2 Dracula is powerless when faced by these objects, giving Van Helsing and his group the
chance to destroy him. These items are able to block off a vampire s powers and protect citizens from
the attacks. Similarly, the Baobhan Sith, a banshee like vampire from the Scottish Highlands, also has
weaknesses. They like to prey on unsuspecting travelers, mostly men, who wish for female company.
As stated on Real Unexplained Mysteries, in a myth about the Baobhan Sith, it is stated that they will
dance with men and then start to shriek uncontrollably... and suddenly attack, but in the story, one man
gets lucky and is able to run away between two of the horses... to seek refuge between as they were all
wearing iron horseshoes. 3 The Baobhan Sith are afraid of iron and are unable to get past it. Both
creatures, Count Dracula and the Baobhan Sith, are powerful, but also have weaknesses that prevent
them from hurting people. These features make the characters more authentic and allow the

Managing HR in MNC is different from the way the HR is being managed in the country, According
to Morgan (1986) there are three factors that differentiate between IHRM and domestic HR: First, the
countries of operations such as the country where a subsidiary may be located, the host country where
the subsidiaries are located, and other countries. Second, the different types of employee, in
international environment the HR management have to deal with the host country nationals (HCNs),
expatriates or home country nationals (PCNs) and third country nationals (TCNs), for example if L
Oreal hired an Indonesian employee in their Indonesian subsidiary the employee is a HCNs, and when
manager from L Oreal Headquarter in France came to work in Indonesian subsidiary the manager is a
PCNs, and if L Oreal employs manager neither from Indonesia nor France to work in their Indonesian
subsidiary the manager is TCNs. Third, is the way HR practices (eg. staffing, compensation, training,
and etc) are conducted. Although IHR practices seems to have the same activities as domestic HR, in
IHR the manager will be dealing with different environment and diversity of employees from different
cultural background. Moreover, as mentioned earlier dissimilarities between domestic and
international HR management mostly due to profound differences between host and home countries in

The Great Famine
Introduction The Great Famine occurred in Ireland between 1845 and 1850 (Gray 2004). The famine
was caused by infectious diseases to potato crops and to humans, but also by structural issues in
Ireland at the time of the occurrence (Gray 2004). The demography of Ireland changed drastically
during the span of less than a decade. Prior to the famine, the Irish population was at 8.4 million in
1844 but as a result of the famine, a decline of 2.2 million people left Ireland with only a population of
6.6 million people in 1951 (Mokyr 2016). Research from the 1980s indicates the famine and
accompanying diseases killed approximately 1.1 million people and the other half became emigrants
(Gray 2004). The Irish were incredibly vulnerable to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1846, Canada received 32,750 people. The following year, over 110,000 Irish people left from
either their country or from Britain to reach Canada, causing a peak in immigration rates referred to as
Black 47 (Collombier Lakeman 2015). Canada reacted to the peak by implementing more costly head
taxes on immigrants and harsher rules of navigation laws, such as the Passengers to North America
Act of 1848. The new laws caused a drastic drop of Irish immigrants, with the figure of 31,065 Irish
emigrants in the same year (Collombier Lakeman 2015). Although people of Canada were
sympathetic to the Irish situation, the surge of Irish immigrants posed an imbalance in Canadian
population that would have affected the infrastructure at the time. Thus, the government posed laws as

A History Of The World In 6 Glasses Analysis
From the first living creatures to modern day homo sapiens, we all have at least one thing in common:
the way that drinks affect survival, culture, and day to day life. Water is not the only drink that humans
have become, in a sense, reliant on over time, as shown in Tom Standage s novel A History of the
World in 6 Glasses . Standage states, other than water, that beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and Coca
Cola greatly shape the events of our world s history. Beer has been around since the time of the hunter
gatherers in Egypt and Mesopotamia, otherwise known as the Fertile Crescent. Around 10,000 BCE,
these hunter gatherers used crushed up wheat and barley to add to food, such as soup, and stored it for
long periods of time. The first settlements

Real Food for The Hungry Essay
How often do children who whine about eating their peas and carrots at the dinner table hear from
their mothers, You should appreciate the food on our table, there are starving kids in Africa. Although
parents use the preceding phrase as a guilt mechanism to trick their children into eating their veggies
so they too can consume the vitamins and nutrients they need to grow, the reality behind the phrase is
much deeper than most realize. People are starving in almost every part of the world and the solution
to that problem has yet to be discovered. A solution that has been considered for some time now but
recently has sparked more interest is the use of genetically modified foods to feed the hungry. Should

In reality, the life science companies are making large sums of money for their overpriced, mass
produced seeds in a short amount of time. Also, one of the reasons why companies price their
genetically modified foods at such a high cost is because creating such seeds and testing them costs
millions of dollars. The companies obviously want to protect themselves, so charging high rates for
their customers turns out to be the best solution. Unfortunately, those high prices then restrict
genetically modified seeds to small companies/farms who can afford those prices, or even worse,
desperate farmers willing to go into more debt to try out the miracle seeds. Sadly enough, poor
farmers are taking that risk. Farmers who are already poor from the lack of profitable crops would
only put themselves in more debt by trying to purchase outrageously priced genetically modified
seeds. Avery later argues, The high cost of development and the monopoly on intellectual property
also result in high prices, making seed costs prohibitive for most independent farmers... Thus,
technology that originally was invented to prevent world hunger is not accessible to those who need it
most (Avery).

  • 2. Energy Sources For Alternative Energy The constant increase and release of carbon dioxide emissions into our environment have drastic effects on our environment. These greenhouse gases warm the earth impacting its naturally occurring events and processes, such as acid rain, destruction of natural habitats, and even influencing the natural flow of the currents in our oceans. The goal has been to create diverse methods of generating powerful, dependable energy sources that do not have negative repercussions on our environment. Alternative energy refers to sources that do not create undesired consequences, such as fossil fuels do (Alternative Energy 2015). Not only are emissions from fossil fuels concerning, but also these resources are not going to be available for our use forever, making changes for alternative energy sources a pressing topic of discussion. British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell, two of the world s largest oil companies, predict that by 2050, one third of the world s energy will have to come from some type of alternative energy source (Alternative Energy 2015). Constant growth of population, climate changes, and depletion of fossil fuels makes it necessary for renewables to play a bigger role in powering our world. These resources are often thought to be free sources of energy because they are naturally occurring events used to form electric power (Alternative Energy 2015). In addition, all of these forms have a large decrease in carbon emissions compared to conventional energy sources ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Stephen Harper s Prime Minister Essay Although, recent national election polls clearly show Stephen Harper could win a fourth term as Canada s Prime Minister, Mr. Harper will in fact have a difficult time explaining a senate scandal, an economic crisis, and insensitive domestic and foreign policies. Therefore, this election could very well be the end of Mr. Harper s term as Prime Minister. Stephen Harper s nine year reign as Canada s Prime Minister presents Mr. Harper as the most controlling and iron fisted leader in Canadian history. Whether it is local, provincial, or federal politics, a government s abuse of power often leads to a fall from grace. Stephen Harper s abuse of power lies within the heart of the Conservative Party s entitlement and lack of transparency. Harper s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Domestic policies are a government s statement about its attitude toward their constituents. Mr. Harper s policies make education unaffordable, science as unnecessary, arts as antigovernment, and the middle class as expensive labor. The Prime Minister slashes subsidies and social programs with every passing budget. Taxes have risen for the average Canadian while tax reform targets business and high wage earners. Consequently, it is up to the middle class wage earner to carry the burden of taxation. However, the Prime Minister thinks nothing of spending hundreds of millions of dollars destroying Canada s identity throughout world as diplomats and peacekeepers. Canada has significantly reduced its role in U.N. peacekeeping missions, reduced its importance in NATO, and has since contributed to the control of the civil war in Syria. ISIS is a very real threat to world safety. Unfortunately, Mr. Harper s handful of jet fighters has proved to be too costly and ineffective. In addition, Mr. Harper had the audacity to ridicule Justin Trudeau for promising the Liberal Party would send clothing and supplies to the victims of war torn Syria. Harper suggests these supplies would fall into the hands of ISIS; therefore, the Liberal Party supports ISIS. A return to our rightful place in the world as peacekeepers should be hotly debated in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Objectives : 1. Constructing a semantic taxonomy for the land cover classification of satellite images. 2. Classifying satellite images according to their types such as vegetation, building, water etc. 3. Implementing MapReduce for processing large amount of data (Satellite Images). Introduction : Satellite images play a major role in today s world in real time event detection. These events may vary from changing landforms, depleting glaciers to catastrophic events like earthquakes, tsunamis and sand storms. The drastic changes after such events need to be monitored and capturing satellite images for such event detection can be helpful. The idea behind this project is to detect the changing landforms across different vegetations, store this data, classify it on the basis of certain specified parameters and retrieve the classified data using well defined mechanisms. Segmentation and event detection is highly scalable in satellite images. With the increasing need to have real time, classified data for specific applications there is an increasing need to store this chunk of data in a distributed environment to have better access. The basic idea to is to capture the satellite images and store them in a distributed environment. The environment to be chosen is Hadoop Distributed Environment. Hadoop makes it ... • 9. Modern Societies And Its Impact On Society Modern societies are described most effectively against the background of what came before them. The process of modernity is reactive; it s meaning is derived by a comparison with, and by rejection or negation of preceding agrarian and industrial societies. Traditional, or pre modern societies take as their basic unit the community or the collective. The family constitutes production and consumption as well as socialization, indicative of a rudimentary division of labour. Further, traditional societies facilitate a worldview that is wholly comprehensive. Durkheim describes this as the collective consciousness . People derive their outlook largely through the different ways that they interact with society, and because these societies have high degrees of similarity, and a shared set of moral values and beliefs, members experience the world in similar ways. In this contrasting view, modernization can be viewed as a process of individualization, specialization and abstraction. In the structure of modern society, the individual dominates the collective. The division of labour is complex. People become alienated from the process of production as specialization increases and their occupations become more specific, consequently disconnecting them from the products of their labour. Moreover, modern societies facilitate a worldview that is abstract. While traditional societies are based on similarity, modern societies are based on differences, thus differentiating the way ... Nowadays, the number of moving people exceeds 200 million (World Migration Report 2010 The Future of Migration: Building Capacities for Change. International Organization for Migration. 2010). The most famous migration stage of Turks was in the II VII centuries, well known as Migration Period. Turkic tribes migrated and spread their habitation because of three main factors. The first and the most significant cause of Turkic migration is related to economic issues. Many Turkic tribes migrated because of crisis and famine in their country. The famine derived from climate changes and severe climate in different periods. Living in difficult life circumstances, Turkic tribes decided to move in order to find fruitful lands. • 16. Analysis Of A Midsummer Night s Dream Gabriel Yeung Mr. Ross ENG1DE A January 17th 2014 Humor. Humor is a quality of an action that causes amusement and entertainment. A Midsummer Night s Dream, written by William Shakespeare is a play best known in the Shakespearian world for being a comedy play. This play has entertained countless audiences over a span of many centuries. A Midsummer Night s Dream is about two pairs of lovers that escape to the forest in order to make love for one another. While doing so, fairies in the forest create chaos which causes the lover to be confused in who they truly love. The misinterpretation on their identity relates to the major theme of the play which is love versus lust and reality versus illusions. The language the Shakespeare chose to use in the play to create an interesting plotline creates humor as well as entertaining the audience. Among the language use, the literary devices that are most prominent to make the play humorous are dramatic irony, enjambment, and imagery. These devices not only entertain and create humor for the audience but also help develop a plotline in which many are interested in. Dramatic irony is one of the most evident devices used in the play. The term dramatic irony is defined as an idea/ plot that the reader or audience knows off in a story or play but the character in the play do not. Though, a single object, an Akan drum, helps to tell their story not with words, but with the rhythm of their trials. The drums also played a fundamental part of slave culture and community once when they arrived to America. The cultures of Europe and Africa were merged together through the slave trade; often slave owners would have sexual relations with slaves and have children that began the merging of these two cultures. Moreover, this drum had a unique characteristic of being stretched over the drum in North American deer skin. The relationship between Native Americans and African Americans is often not discussed, but is seen through this drum due to the use of deer skin. Intermarriage between Natives and the slaves was quite common and shows once again the mixing of cultures. • 25. Essay On Raw Gley Soil The Main Soil Types of the UK Terrestrial Raw Soils These are soils consisting predominantly of unaltered mineral material that have no surface/sub surface horizon attributed to soil forming processes (unless buried under a 730cm thick deposit from the Holocene) (Avery, 1980;). These soils do not normally have continuous vegetation cover (Avery, 1980). They occur in very recently formed soil and may have a superficial organic or organo mineral layer less than 5cm thick. Sometimes they have a buried horizon below 30cm of depth. (Thompson, 2007; Jarvis, 1984). Raw Gley Soils Raw gley soils are found within mineral material that has remained waterlogged since deposition (Thompson, 2007). The soils are missing a distinctive top soil and contain gleyed subsurface horizons (Avery, 1980). They also contain a mineral horizon which starts at 20cm and extends below 30cm (Avery, 1980). Jarvis (1984) also states that the soils are distinctly mottled above 40cm depth. Raw gley soil types are mostly confined to intertidal flats (Avery, 1980) or areas that represent various stages in the development of salt marshes (Thompson, 2007). Lithomorphic Soils Contain a distinctive top soil that is humose or peaty and a substratum starting at 40cm in depth which has been altered little (Avery, 1980; Buol, 1997). The soils do not contain a disturbed surface layer, the B horizon is not podzolic, weathered or argillic (Avery, 1980; Buol, 1997) and the soil profile is shallow (Ashman Puri, 2002). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, the life science companies are making large sums of money for their overpriced, mass produced seeds in a short amount of time. Also, one of the reasons why companies price their genetically modified foods at such a high cost is because creating such seeds and testing them costs millions of dollars. The companies obviously want to protect themselves, so charging high rates for their customers turns out to be the best solution. Unfortunately, those high prices then restrict genetically modified seeds to small companies/farms who can afford those prices, or even worse, desperate farmers willing to go into more debt to try out the miracle seeds. Sadly enough, poor farmers are taking that risk. Farmers who are already poor from the lack of profitable crops would only put themselves in more debt by trying to purchase outrageously priced genetically modified seeds.
