Legalizing Assisted Suicide Persuasive Essay
With the advances in medicine, physicians have the ability to extend a patient s life many years passed
what was possible even a mere fifty years ago. However, the quality of life of those extended years
has become a major topic of discussion. Many times the surviving years are miserable for the patient,
as well as the family. Legalizing assisted suicide would benefit Medicare by bringing it out of huge
debt. Also, it would relieve the pain of terminal patients and open a door of opportunity for patients on
the transplant list waiting for an organ. Because of all humans eventually die, every person should
have the right to live a pain free life. Although some religions are opposed to it, assisted suicide
should be legal in all of the United States to the terminally ill.
Assisted suicide/euthanasia has been a controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most commonly known forms are passive and active euthanasia. Passive is when a patient refuses
life saving medical treatment, and active is when lethal medication is injected into the patient.
Euthanasia itself is intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for his or her
alleged benefit (Batten 398 400). Assisted suicide is when someone provides an individual with the
information, guidance, and means to take his or her own life with the intention that they be used for
this purpose (Batten 398 400). Physician assisted suicide is when a doctor is the one who assists, such
as by prescribing a lethal dose of medication. Assisted Suicide is legal in Oregon, Washington,
Montana, Vermont, and New Mexico. New regulations were brought about when these states legalized
assisted suicide. Specifically, you must make two oral request and one written one, two doctors must
be convinced that the decision is voluntarily, and you must be over eighteen (Batten

Elements of Design in the Green Mile
The Green Mile is an exceptional film that was created in the year 1999. This film was nominated for
four academy awards: Best Supporting Actor, Best Picture, Best Sound, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
This movie teaches us how different the times were back in the 1900s compared to the way it is now.
The movie is set in 1935 which was during the times of the Great Depression. It also illustrates death
row and how execution is still a problem to where it is not just and fair. There are several well known
actors that cast in this film. Each actor plays a very unique role and elements ... Show more content on

The production designer, who is also sometimes called the art director, is responsible for maintaining
the sets, props and the costumes so that they are in sync with the story and the character s role
(Goodykontz amp; Jacobs, 2011). Production designers are head of the department on film crews and
they are responsible for the art department. Basically, they may be asked to look at scripts to decide
how much time the art department needs to spend on films. They also calculate the budgets to figure
out how much money will be spent as well. Furthermore, they will provide their design sketches
expressing detailing mood, lighting, composition and color to the art directors who oversees the
production (Anonymous, 2012).
In this scene, the Miracle Worker , the lighting is low because it is night time, but there are lights on
inside of the house in the bedroom where the warden wife is lying in bed. The lighting is very dim
which evokes a depressing and gloomy mood. It draws the audience into the scene to where they can
feel the same pain and sorrow that the actors feel. John Coffey places his lips over the warden s wife s
lips to retrieve the sickness of the cancer from her body. The chandelier begins to brighten and the
sound of the music increases as the scene becomes more intense. There is a sign of bright lighting

The Song Of The Yami Analysis
SONG OF THE ANCESTORS The Song is considered the absolute law of the Yami with no room for
gray areas or interpretation and their myths, unlike in western culture where the word myth is
understood as false, are considered as the only real truths and never to be questioned. It holds all the
taboos, rituals, and social reasoning of the Yami, and the history of the family reciting until present
time. This genealogy component of the song is why each family has their own version of creation in
the Song. However, the Yami are also aware of the different variations of the events in their stories,
and some narrators even acknowledge these differences within the telling of their own telling (themes

includes the territorial rights of their lineage and precise information on land, water, and pasture
ownership...The correct succession of personal names as related to the names of settlements and fields
is more important than what happened to the bearers of the names themselves (lim of nar sec cp6)
Certain ancestral themes in the Song are heritage of the various villages, but they can be shared by the

Volcano s A Volcano Eruption By Cliff Montgomery
Volcano How to Survive Them.
When it comes to surviving, people will take whatever means are necessary to live just a little bit
longer. An example of this could be a point in the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat sinking,
Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. As a result, she was one of the few
people to actually be alive and rescued when the boats came back. When it comes to survival, at that
moment in time there is no rule book on what measure one can take to survive but a person should
know the basics. Volcanoes are a good example of this. Volcano s: How to Survive a Volcano Eruption
by Cliff Montgomery s article is effective because it acknowledges what is in a volcano, explain what
to do when a volcano is erupting and provides knowledge about what to watch out for.
In the article: Volcano s How to Survive a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery , he gives people a
knowledge of Volcano s in depth. Montgomery first starts out giving background information about
places where volcano eruptions have occurred what the effects of those eruptions have done to the city
and the people. Next, he goes into the workshop about how volcano s work and what is exactly inside
of them that does so much harm. Lastly, he mentions is how to protect one s self when the volcano
erupts before and after the eruption.
No one really knows how volcanoes came to be but we know what is inside one. An example of this
would be in the article Volcanoes

Treating Information Privacy Flaws Of The Federal Trade...
TREATING INFORMATION PRIVACY DEFICIENCIES IN CYBERSPACE
Introduction
Scholars are divided on the fundamental question of the Federal Trade Commission s (FTC)
adjudicative capacity under the FTC Act. The FTC uses a reasonableness standard and considers each
company s data security practices on a case by case basis. For more than a decade, the FTC s
enforcement of data security actions invoked under §5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC
Act) resulted in consent decrees and settlements, subsequently scrutinized by practitioners as carrying
as much precedential value as judicial opinions.
In 2015, the Third Circuit Court Appeals decision in Wyndham reinforced the FTC s authority to
pursue enforcement actions against companies that do not have reasonable data security practices.
Notwithstanding a motion to dismiss arguing that, inter alia, (1) the FTC lacks authority to regulate
under §5 of the FTC Act and (2) the FTC failed to provide fair notice and of what constitutes
reasonable data security standards and (3) §5 does not govern the security of payment card data;
Wyndham marked the first time federal courts held that the FTC has authority under §5 of the FTC
Act to enforce data security practices.
Equipped with Wyndham, the FTC s guidelines in providing information about what acts constitutes
unfair or deceptive practices carry more precedential force than ever before. Essentially, the Circuit
Court of Appeals holding in Wyndham affirms the FTC s discretion to

Lean And Lean Case Study
The basic concepts involved in lean and lean manufacturing was originated from The Toyota, one of
the Japanese automaker in the global competition since decades. In 1988, Taiichi Ohno brought the
lean concept into operation for the first time at Toyota and called it as Toyota Production System
(TPS), to overcome economic crisis due to World War II. TPS was mainly developed to flourish with
minimum resources. Owing to the immense shortages of material, human and financial resources, TPS
had no other option but to choose the waste reduction policy to cut down the costs at the shop floor.
Even in the hard economic crisis, Toyota sustained and was successful because of its higher efficiency
in operation and improved production system. In the meantime, inadequacy of the resources which
was at first an obstacle to the company transformed into an opportunity to establish Toyota as a world
class car manufacturer. Lean approach was slowly applied in many manufacturing and management
floors over the last few decades. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, by progressively improving manufacturing processes through the exclusion of waste,
higher value is generated for the customer as the quality is improved and costs are decreased. These
principles include: Pull processing, continuous improvement, waste elimination, flexibility, perfect
quality, Load levelling, cultivating long term relationship with suppliers, Automation, Production flow
and Visual control. Lean manufacturing also emphasizes on elimination of the seven kinds of wastes
from the production activities, these wastes includes transportation or conveyance wastes,
overproduction, incorrect processing, excess motion, waiting, inventory, wastes due to defects. Thus
today s Toyota is a result of need impelled learning to overcome the issues within its own production

My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke Essay examples
In My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke, was a great poem that can mean many different things to
many different people of this world. To me I think it was just a boy who just wanted to spend time
with his dad before he has to go to bed. The boy probably does not get to spend time with his dad that
much. The father probably works all day and all week and this is the only time the boy gets to spend
with him. Roethke use of words in this poem is amazing. The use of the words in this story can mean
different things to the reader. The first word to look at is the word waltz. In the dictionary the word
waltz is a dance for a fast triple meter song. This is just what the father is doing with his son but his is
drunk and dizzy. But I hung on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An interesting thing about beat time on my head goes back to what waltz means. The father is dancing
and to keep his rhythm he is patting the boy on the head. So now the father is putting his son to bed
but he still holding on like death because he does not want him to go. In John J. McKenna scholar
review of My Papa s Waltz he reviews how Roethke had so much trouble writing this poem. McKenna
says that Roethke tried to balance the light and the darkness in this poem. When the poem was first
written it was about a girl and her father but change it to a boy because he wanted a little more
roughness in his poem. He changes some words from the first couple of times he wrote it than the real
publish one. Some of the changes were from a girl to a boy, when the boy scrapped his right ear was
really the forehead at first, and also the battered knuckles were palms at first. Roethke changes the title
of his work six times but he finally came back to the first title My Papa s Waltz . His biggest struggle
was to find out either to use Papa or father and waltz and dance. Ultimately he figures out what to use
because it was a great poem. In Bobby Fong review of My Papa s Waltz he looks at how other people
looks at the poem. Fong is a teacher who looks at how his students came up with the answer that they
came up with. Fong also reviews the light and the darkness of this poem where it is a seesaw battle
between them. After that he starts looking at it from a personally

The French And Haitian Revolution
THE AMERICAN, FRENCH AND HAITIAN REVOLUTION3The Haitian RevolutionThe Haitian
Revolution which took place in the year 1791 and went up to 1803 faced twelve years of insurgency
and infighting in a bid to abolish the then entrenched slave trade (Geggus, 2002). The revolt in Haiti
started as a result of a misunderstanding between the mulattoes and the whites which then escalated
into a fully fledged warfare in which the slaves fought with the aim of taking back their freedom from
their white masters (Bryan, 1984). In summary, therefore, the Haiti Revolution can be termed as a
political movement which sought the abolishment and culmination of a long ongoing slave trade,
decolonization, and racial impartiality. In 1804, having won over the whites, ... Show more content on

As a result, the Napoleon together with the French revolutionary armies invaded the European
colonies armed with radical institutional reforms and changes (Acemoglu et al., 2009). The French
aimed to get rid of the judicial and economic set standards which had initially offered protection to the
aristocratic oligarchies, fraternity, clergy and the noble. In so doing, the French were seeking to bring
about the proposition of the law of equality for all humankind and thus promote liberty for each and
every citizen. History records those regions initially run and operated by the Frenchmen proved

invasion had no adverse impact on the countries which were run by it and instead showeda robust
social, political and economic growth (Acemoglu et al., 2009). The French revolution, therefore, lay to
waste the constitutional underpinnings of power initially held by the few and theelite of the society
and brought about industrial, social and economic revolution thus paving the way for a prosperous
future. They brought a new age and era of change as they fought to break down and destroy the

Texas s New Gun Control Policy
As of the beginning of this year 2016, Texas has now been an open carry state. Open carry simply
means that every single 21 year old or older gets to purchase a gun if they choose to do so and wear it
out on the streets. Texas had been going back and forth on whether or not to allow this to pass and in
the end it did. Many Texans had mixed emotions about the open carry system and did not approve of it
due to situation that might have occurred in their lives or others that hit them hard, and/or because of
the sense of fear that guns just can have on a person. Texas citizens are usually portrayed as
cowboys/girls, and westerners that live eat breathe all things country, and gun loving machines. In
some cases that may be true but not all Texans are, for example the Valley. There are many views and
opinions as to how others feel about Texas new gun control policy and they vary from great things that
this new policy can contribute to this state, compared to negative aspects that it can lead up to. In my
opinion there is nothing wrong with Texas now allowing the open carry system in this state. Yes, it
might be frightening at first but to me there is nothing wrong with letting people carry guns. It is
simply giving them their rights as a citizen of the United States of America.
Many Black and Latin voters in the state of Texas absolutely do not support any such idea of the
campus carry. This has been said due to a most recent poll that was taken by the Urban Policy

Good evening everyone my name is T Asia Bell and my debate position is pro death penalty. I am pro

The Importance Of A Team For A Dysfunctional Team
This essay will discuss and evaluate what a team is and how a team can function successfully, it will
also explore the factors that cause a team to be effective or ineffective and the barriers contributing to
a dysfunctional team.
Teamwork is a basic but important part of nursing which preregistered nurses are expected to become
part of and will eventually perform some form of leadership. Effective teamwork and leadership skills
are necessary qualities for a nurse to develop and are important to ensure patient safety (West, 2012).
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (2010) state that to work effectively as part of a team you
must work cooperatively and respect the skills, expertise and contributions of your colleagues and you
must be willing to share your skills and experience for the benefit of your colleagues. This is
important in the healthcare setting as patients rely on an efficient, well motivated team to take care of
them. Therefore, this essay will also discuss leadership, discriminating between good and bad, and it
will also consider the concept of followership. Furthermore, team building and organisational
behaviour will be considered using relevant theories and methods.
A team is a basic functioning unit within an organisation and is defined as a group of people organised
to work independently and cooperatively, meeting the given requirements by achieving the same goals
and purpose (Heathfield, 2014). Frias Martinez et al (2004) supports this definition

Greed And Abuse Of Power In Animal Farm And V For Vendetta
Greed and Abuse of power in Animal Farm and V for Vendetta
The story of Animal Farm written by George Orwell, and the Film V for vendetta produced by James
McTeigue both explore the driving forces behind greed and power. In each of these stories there are
many similarities of the concept of abusing power. Both stories also demonstrate that they don t follow
the key importance of communism, that is communism only works if everyone is equal.
The biggest theme in both stories is that the leaders, Chancellor Sutler, Napoleon and Snowball all
demonstrate their need to have total dominance and power over their civilians. In the film the
government of England at the time appears to be very selfish and has no interest in the public s views
on problems and suggestions, they seem like they are in strict control of the populations lifestyle and
they don t have, much freedom. In the film V says People should not be afraid of their governments.
Governments should be afraid of their people . As the film goes on this is shown by the civilians not
being happy with the leaders, leading to people getting angry and uprises and attracts take place on the
government. In the Animal farm book the animals also show their disgust towards their leaders. In the
first chapter, Old Major say What then must we do? Why, work night and day, body and soul, for the

Bandura s Social Learning Theory
Some of the things we overlook at times are the things that make the most sense in the world.
Something like the social learning theory was overlooked. But it has provided such great insight as to
why we do certainly in our lives. Bandura s theory has paved the way to many studies and has open
our minds to the possibility that we affect each other in a way we would not imagine. I believe that
this theory can shape a lot of people s lives. I agree with Albert Bandura s social learning theory by
modeling and in this paper, I will present an argument that outlines the reasons why. I like Bandura s
social learning theory. The social learning theory states that Behavior...is learned of other
people...people who deviate from cultural norms have learned their behavior in the same way. (Schultz
Schultz, 2009, p.403 404). This theory can bring a lot of awareness to the families who feel that their
action or behaviors won t have any effect on the child. This theory also holds a lot of substance. My
cousin who is five years old is cursing and that is because of his father who has no filter especially
with the kids. He believes that they are too young and they won t understand what he is telling them
but in actuality, my cousin is modeling his behavior. I feel if this theory is well known parents and
another role model will understand how much power they have over people. I agree with the social
learning theory because I find that it holds some truth to it. we may

A Clockwork Orange Banned
In December of 1971 Stanley Kubrick released A Clockwork Orange for the entire world to enjoy. The
movie is an adaptation of the book by the same name that was written by Anthony Burgess in 1963.
The story begins with the main character, Alex narrating while he and his fellow gang members
Georgie, Dim and Pete sit in the Korova Milk Bar discussing what violent acts they will be part of that
night. The drink of choice is milk that is laced with drugs that is dispensed from the breast of nude
statues of women that adorn the bar. After Alex and his gang leave the Korova, they go on a crime
spree that includes mugging, robbery, a gang fight, grand theft auto, breaking and entering and rape.

A primary theme that runs throughout the movie is the importance of free will. This theme is deeply
entangled with Beethoven s Ninth Symphony and the idea the Ninth provides the backdrop to pivotal
violent points during the movie. Free will in the movie is often depicted as the presence of a moral
choice. This moral choice for Alex is heavily influenced by the way society and the government views
the young people of that time period. The youth are neglected not only by their parents, but by the
society who is supposed to be welcoming them with open arms and helping them become a
productive, responsible adult. John Locke suggests in his Social Contract Theory that the idea that
though men are by nature free, equal and independent , they can be subjected to the political power of
another with their consent. The purpose of this being is to maintain a set of rules for which all agree to

The phenomenon of phantom limb pain (PLP) in patients with amputations has always fascinated

PLP remains unclear. It is estimated that greater than 80% of patients with a partial or total loss of a

of the amputated limb. 1 Studies have shown that up to 75% of patients develop pain within the first

investment in amenities. These, however, were pricey and most of the locals were not able to afford.
Gentrification has its benefits to the families that are categorized as low income earners. First, through
the development of infrastructure and opening up of newer shops and outlets, jobs are created. This
thus reduces unemployment and also makes these families improve on their livelihood through income
earned from the jobs they do in these new outlets. Secondly, with gentrification, better amenities are

The fees skyrocket and most of these families cannot afford it. They thus end up having children with
low levels of education. Also, due to the cultural diversity, the minority poorer people are often
criminalized thus making life harder for them (Fainstein, 2014) Gentrification improves the social
factors that determine health. Since there was the creation of newer hospitals and facilities, the
communities in Williamsburg benefited from better healthcare. On top of that improved security and
better housing structures made health better in Williamsburg. Since levels of education are also
increased by gentrification, health got a major boost. These show that health, in general, was improved
by gentrification. However, access for the more impoverished families was still an issue due to the
high charges. When the values of property rise, the original residents are affected both positively and
negatively. However, they are affected more negatively as they are forced to vacate their homes as
they can no longer afford the rent. This leads to displacement of more impoverished families. On top
of that, they are forced to spend a lot on rent alone in case they stay. This might affect their finances,
and they could end up bankrupt. Their health may deteriorate too because of depression as well as
higher charges in the hospital. However, they may get advantages such as improved housing
conditions and better security and environment.

Corporate Roles, Personal Virtues, And The Good Life
In the Corporate Roles, Personal Virtues: An Aristotelean Approach to Business Ethics, Robert
Solomon argues that toughness is a virtue, but callousness and indifference is not. Solomon views the
Aristotle approach the proper way, because it considers both personal and business values. However,
Albert Carr argues that business and personal ethics don t mix; and game strategy in business leads to
success. In this paper, I will argue that Carr prevails Solomon s business ethics and his claim.
Aristotle is a philosopher that is known for his interest in virtue ethics, but is more recognized for his
business ethics (Solomon 67). Before explaining the latter, Aristotle explains the role of the virtues in
ethics and the good life through: community, excellence, role identity, integrity, judgement
(phronesis), holism. The Aristotelean approach to community comes first, because we as an individual
find our identity through institutions. Darwinism s survival of the fittest and neo Hobbesian s every
man for themselves contradicts the Aristotelian view. Business and personal agenda needs each other
to be more productive; yet, the corporation one choose will determine the level of happiness or

Beat Countercultural Movement Essay
To say that the Beat generation has affected modern culture seems at first to be no great revelation; it
is inevitable that any period of history will affect the time that follows. The Beat generation is
especially significant, though, because of its long lasting impact on American culture. Many aspects of
modern American culture can be directly attributed to the Beat writers, primarily Allen Ginsburg,
William Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Jack Kerouac. (Asher) Their influence has changed the
American perception of obscenity, has had profound effects on American music and literature, and has
modified the public s views on such topics as sex and drug use. The label Beat Generation was first
publicized in a 1952 New York Times Magazine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many lines in Howl would have been considered obscene by the standards of his time, especially, who
let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly motorcyclists, and screamed with joy. (Howl) Prior to
1957, obscenity was legally defined as anything that has a substantial tendency to deprave or corrupt
its readers by inciting lascivious thoughts or arousing lustful desires. (Obscenity) Since much of Howl
is concerned with illicit drug use and sexual deviancy, it clearly meets these requirements. Now,
however, no second thought is given to works such as Howl. Our culture has changed so drastically
that not only has what was once considered obscene become accepted, but it has been raised to the
status of literature. The Beatniks, as they eventually came to be known, also had a strong influence on
music and literature. The artists of the then emerging musical style of rock and roll, such figures as the
Beatles and Bob Dylan, were affected by the movement. In fact, Beatles was spelled with an a because
of Kerouac s influence on John Lennon. Paul McCartney played guitar for one of Ginsberg s albums.
Bob Dylan toured with Ginsberg, and considered Ginsberg and Kerouac both to be major influences.

Max Weber s Politics As A Vocation
He who seeks the salvation of the soul, of his own and of others, should not seek it along the avenue
of politics, for the quite different tasks of politics can only be solved by violence , stated Max Weber
in his lecture Politics as a Vocation (Weber 4). In order to participate in politics, an individual will
inevitably encounter times when they must break with traditional morality. An ethic of ultimate ends is
not realistic or plausible for the field of politics, particularly when it is followed steadfastly. An ethic
of responsibility is more compatible with politics, as it allows the response to a situation to be
determined by the circumstances rather than inflexible rules, while still maintaining accountability for
one s own actions. This flexibility is most necessitated by the politicians use of violence. There is a
fallacy that an ethic of ultimate ends and an ethic of responsibility are incompatible and cannot be
reconciled. A politician can follow an ethic of responsibility, while still following certain ethical
principles of ultimate ends, on which they will hold their ground. Weber states, ... an ethic of ultimate
ends and an ethic of responsibility are not absolute contrasts but rather supplements, which only in
unison constitute a genuine man a man who can have the calling for politics (Weber 4). True morality
in politics is found in the compromise between the competing ethical codes, and the ability to discern
when this compromise is necessary is

Child Labour And Indi Causes, Challenges And Legislations
Child Labour in India: Causes, Challenges and Legislations to combat the malaise.
Abstract: Child labour continues to be a problem even today in many parts of the world. These
children are mostly inhabitants of poor undeveloped nations of South America, Africa and Asia. They
live in harsh conditions with almost no access to education. The income earned by them, however
minimal, is necessary to feed and clothe their families who are dependent on them. The families have
no other option but to push their children to work in various informal industrial and agricultural
sectors in order to make ends meet. They are simply not aware of the harm this does to their young
children nor is there an orientation to send these children to school instead. The Government of India
has taken a lot of legal initiatives in order to address this serious issue of child labour. The National
Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has been proactively involved in the eradication of this malaise
plaguing Indian society. India is also a participant in the United Nation s International Program on
Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) under the aegis of ILO. The present paper will look at the various
causes which lead to child labour, the international and national legislations that are in place to
eliminate this glaring menace and the steps which must be taken in order to abolish child labour in the
country.

Gospel Of Mark Reason
The Gospel of Mark Three Reasons to Study The Gospel of Mark written by John Mark around mid to
late 60 s is the shortest yet possibly the most interesting of all four Gospels. It contains the narrative
history, sermons, and parables of Jesus Christ in just sixteen quick chapters. And according to some
instructors and authors it also has the most miracles of Christ within its pages.
Three reasons for a student of the Bible to consider studying, not just reading the Gospel of Mark is
one, the key word in Mark is Immediately which is used frequently causing the reader to move from
one account to the next rapidly.
Two, unlike Luke and Matthew who begin their accounts of the Gospel with the events surrounding

We read in Mark 1:22 that They were astonished at his teachings, they were all amazed, Mark 1:27;
they were utterly astounded Mark 6:51; the disciples were amazed at his words, Mark 10:24. The
Bible student can take the example from our Lord who came here with purpose, to save the lost.
The purpose of the Gospel of Mark is to show that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of
God who was sent to suffer and to serve in order to rescue and restore mankind. It is widely
recognized that the theme of this Gospel comes out chapter ten and verse forty five, For even the Son
of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
In the third point we answer the question, why would these short writings be so well noted and
recognized? And this is answered with the theme verse as it paints a picture of how Mark describes
our Lord. Mark displays both Jesus divinity and his humanity. For example, Mark tells us that Jesus is
the carpenter Mark 6:3. Matthew softens it a bit by saying that Jesus is the carpenter s son Matthew
13:55. Mark even tells us about Jesus emotions. Jesus was moved with compassion Mark 6:34; he
sighed Mark 7:34; 8:12; he marveled at the unbelief of his own people Mark 6:6; he looked

Theme Of Exile In The Seafarer
ia Johnson Mr. Saunders British Literature 28 September, 2017 Medieval Analytical Essay During the
period of 449 1485 A.D. or also known as the Medieval Period, life was very socially structured
causing distinct social classes and terms of isolation. The Medieval period can also be known as the
feudalistic period meaning if a person grew up as a peasant, they would always be a peasant and
nothing higher or lower. In this feudalistic, Medieval period, three elegic, lyrical poems were
translated and related to medieval life. These poems by unknown authors have the related theme of

Relating to both The Seafarer and The Wanderer, The Wife s Lament also uses imagery to create the
theme of exile within its work. Here the poet uses spacial imagery by saying the valleys are dark, the
hills high (line 30). This use of spacial imagery depicts the image of the wife being separated from her
husband who abandoned her. Also as seen in both poems, The Wife s Lament also has the imagery that
has a cold feeling, relating to isolation. Visual imagery is shown in line forty eight saying, Under a
rocky cliff, rimed with frost (WL). All three of these poems relate to one another with similar types of
imagery in each work and also the feeling of coldness to portray the image of isolation and
abandonment. Within each of these poems, tone is used to build the theme of exile. In The Seafarer
which is set upon the sea, the speaker starts the poem off in a mourning and a tone of desperation. In
line twenty six, the seaman speaks of himself as, ..a soul left drowning in desolation (S) which means
he is anguished in misery or loneliness. Towards the middle of the poem the seaman has a tonal shift,
how my heart (line 33) where he is reflecting on how life could have been. In The Wanderer, the
warrior lost his king and describes himself as, lonely and wretched (line 9) because he has lost his

Prenatal Contraception And Prenatal Care Essay
The risk of maternal and infant mortality can be significantly reduced by increasing access to early
and adequate prenatal care (Chapman Durham, 2010). The prenatal period provides an opportunity to
make positive changes in all aspects of a women s health status and health maintenance behaviors.
Early and adequate prenatal care provides the opportunity to identify significant risks to the pregnant
women, and develop interventions to reduce or eliminate potential complications (Chapman Durham,
2010).
Prenatal care encompasses the health care services provided to a women, from the time the women
becomes pregnant until birth. Prenatal care consists of three major components, risk assessment,
treatment of existing medical conditions and/or risk reduction, and patient education (Chapman
Durham, 2010). Current guidelines established by the American College of Obstetrician and
Gynecologists, regarding prenatal care for a low risk, expected full term pregnancy, include at least
thirteen prenatal visits (ACOG, 2016). Recommendations suggest one visit per month for the first 28
weeks of pregnancy, bi monthly during 29 36 weeks and then every week until birth (ACOG, 2016).
Evidence based practices emphasize the importance of receiving both early prenatal care, beginning in
the first trimester as well as adequate prenatal care, encompassing all perinatal education and guidance
(ACOG, 2016).

Vietnam to the chokepoint at the Strait of Hormuz, American sailors have valiantly stood up to defend
America s interests at home and abroad. The Navy has had to continuously update its vessels and

This plan failed, however, as lawmakers were not able to come up with a bipartisan solution. After
both parties failed to come up with a solution that would satisfy both parties, automatic budget cuts
then came into effect. These automatic cuts called for a $109 billion to be cut annual. The weight of
the cuts would be spread equally throughout the U.S. Government, being carried by both military and
nonmilitary departments alike, meaning that the budget cuts to the military alone would total $55
billion annually each fiscal year. It is through these cuts that the Navy will have to operate on into the
foreseeable future. As the budget cuts continue on into the future, the readiness of our sailors and ships
are increasingly being put in jeopardy. The human aspect of the military is the foundation of
everything we do, and without that vital part in the proverbial pyramid of defense, everything else is
meaningless. The technology of the times is only as effective as the human element supporting it.
Without the vital human aspect, all of the newest technology may as well be a useless pile of junk.
Despite the importance of maintaining a strong human aspect, if we allow our Navy s ships to fall into
disrepair, not even the best sailors in the world could operate effectively. The most devastating effects
of budget slashing will be felt the most by our hardworking sailors themselves. Although the Chief of
Naval Operations has stated that military manpower will be

Jesus Change
During class time, we learned about Jesus s impact on people. Many people were changed a lot. They
became kinder and more friendly. We could see this through people s reactions to God and the good
things they did. Through Jesus s teaching, not only Paul and people in the Bible, but every Christian is
becoming better people.
Among all the apostles, the change from Saul to Paul is the most amazing one for me. The name Saul
was once a deadly word for the citizens under Saul s control. He hated Christians at first. He arrested
and even killed a lot of apostles. Evil and cruel are the two words that best described him. He was a
demon before he was changed by Jesus.
In Acts 9, Saul was completely changed. When he went into the city of Damascus, ... Show more

When Jesus appeared in front of him and told him that he needed to save Saul, he hesitated. His
hesitation reflected the evilness of Saul. God chose Ananias because of his pure faith. The evilness
that stopped a faithful apostle from obeying God s order must be huge. It indirectly showed how bad
Saul was and how huge the change was as well. The reaction of Ananias is an important element in
here. Saul s changes were unbelievable. He was such an evil killer three days ago. No one could
imagine that three days later, he became a true believer of Jesus. Jesus purified his soul. This made
him act like a savior. All the sins were washed away. He became a faithful follower in Jesus and God.
The bible talked a lot about his faith after being healed. In Acts 21, Paul was arrested by the Jews. He
was with the people that grabbed him. After he turned to Jesus, he showed his faith towards God. He
could have been with the persecutors and keep looking for Christians. However, he gave up the life he
was used to and changed all his characteristics. Acts 22 described the things he did after he was
released. He said, I was very serious about serving God, the same as all of you here today. (Acts 22:3)

When discussing the death penalty, rarely do we acknowledge the impact executions have on the men

not. According to several executioners, the first experience is far from what they had anticipated. To
bring to light the stories of these men and women, Jim Willet facilitates an audio recording which
covers the process of executing an inmate and the aftermath which is often felt by the executioner.
After the Governor and Attorney General provide the okay, the inmate is escorted to the death
chamber where they are strapped to the gurney in roughly 30 seconds. Often the inmate will thank the

Analysis Of Thoreau s Walden s The Woods
Transcendentalism is a philosophical movement that began in the early nineteenth century in America.
One of the major tenets of transcendentalism is that society and social institutions corrupt the purity of
an individual. Transcendentalists believe that individuals should believe in themselves and not
conform to others beliefs. They think that society is a major reason why individuals lack self
determination and the ability to possess their own values.

He believes that slavery is an immoral action that should banned. He feels disturbed by the
government for their involvements in the Mexican American war and their actions in expanding

conform. In this way, individuals are forced to comply to the government actions despite opposing
them. Thoreau refuses to pay his poll taxes as a way to protest the Mexican American war and the
expansion of slavery in the South. He believes that individuals should oppose the government by not
paying for taxes if they believe that the government is corrupt. Thoreau s opposition to the
government collides with transcendentalism because they believe that society corrupts the intuition of
an individual. Transcendentalists encourage individuals to follow their own will and oppose to things
they disagree with like the corruption of the government. In addition to the criticism of the
government, Thoreau feels disappointed at people conforming to society s standard. Thoreau prefers
his old clothes than new and extravagant ones. I say, beware of all enterprises that require new clothes,

Charles M. Payne s I Ve Got The Light Of Freedom
If any questions remain about whether the Mississippi freedom movement was an organic resistance
movement, then Charles M. Payne s I ve Got the Light of Freedom should remove all doubt. The
movement was created and maintained by an organizing tradition that stretched back to the early
1940s. It featured an activism of an earlier, socially invisible generation, including war veterans,
ministers, civic minded businessmen, and average laborers. Greenwood is the focus of Payne s story,

Common Themes in Poetry Essay
Common Themes in Poetry
After reading and analysing numerous poems, I have chosen two examples of the famous Irish Poet,
Seamus Heaney s work: Follower and
Mid Term Break . Both poems relate to the poet s past, and are certainly associated with a specific loss
of a loved one one a literal loss, and the other a subconscious loss.
Mid Term Break , which I found to be a very touching and poignant poem, describes the loss of the
poet s younger brother, Christopher when Heaney was a child, hence the poem is of a childhood
tragedy as well as a loss. It s set in three places the introduction is situated in the college sick bay; the

A double meaning is presented in the final line of the second stanza:
Big Jim Evans saying it was a hard blow
The hard blow may be referring to the actual blow that killed
Christopher (as he was killed by a car), or the fact that it s a hard blow to the family. Either way, one
fact becomes apparent: the Heaney family have the support and love of everyone around them, but
that doesn t counteract for the tragic loss of Christopher it may help clean the wound, but the scar will
forever be visible. We also attain the knowledge, due to his very personal identity, that Big Jim Evans
is a family friend, and that he himself is shaken by the situation considering his very plain and yet
meaningful comment. Again, the sadness and incredibility of the incident is underlined not only
family members are grieving.
Another detection of change is seen in the third stanza, and this time it s a very uncomfortable change:

administrators and President Nixon to change their Military tactics (War Protests). Search and destroy
missions were used as one of the military tactics, created by General William Westmoreland. The idea
was to search the enemy and to destroy them immediately before the enemy attacks. The My Lai
massacre is a great example of a search and destroy mission, where American soldiers killed between
200 and 500 unarmed villagers in My Lai at Westmoreland s command. Their purpose was to kill
guerilla fighters, but instead they brutally took the lives of innocent civilians (My Lai Massacre).
Before the Vietnam War began, communism was already threatening governments across the globe.
Americans believed that containing communist aggression in South Vietnam was crucial, thus the
United States commenced the Vietnam War. As the war continued, Americans grew increasingly wary
of mounting casualties and escalating costs. Instead of the military consuming money from the Great
Society, Americans believed that the government and the military should have used the funds wisely
for social programs, such as welfare and housing for the poor. The small anti war movement grew into

Bilingualism Myths
There are many myths about bilingualism having negative effects. One of those myths are that babies
are hopelessly confused by exposure to two languages. However, studies have proven that learning
more than one language as an infant is actually very beneficial and not difficult to do. According to
Judith F. Kroll, babies develop the ability to discriminate the languages that they listen to and are more
open to learning a new language. A study by Ferran Pons and other colleagues, revealed how bilingual
children show an earlier attentional shift to the mouth. This is due to the fact that bilingual infants rely
more on the perceptual salient of audiovisual speech cues in order to to construct two different
language systems. Furthermore, another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why there should be a program created at the University of California, Riverside. This program
should be available to everyone in the community. Furthermore, the program would consist of
sessions in which the data and studies done on bilingual infants can be presented and broken down.
The way in which the information is presented is very crucial because there are certain things that
make it difficult to explain. The information about the benefits of bilingualism in infants will be
presented by taking the studies conducted and breaking down everything completely, including the
terms and the data. These sessions will be open to whoever wants to inform themselves or has
concerns about exposing their babies to more than one language. In addition, the program will allow
those who have first hand experiences with being bilingual from infancy or who have bilingual infants
to speak about the benefits. However, if the program were to only be accessible by going to UCR then
it would make it difficult for many to find the time to attend. Just as many other programs such as
health programs, go around schools informing parents this program will mobilize itself. By mobilizing
this program we will be able to reach more people. The places that we would target the most would be
elementary schools, daycare centers, and certain clinics that deal with pregnant parents. These would
be very good places to go to and inform parents about bilingual infants because it would still be a
good time for them to do so. This program could also inform them about the other benefits of
bilingualism throughout an individual s life span. Lastly, it would be more beneficial to inform them
about all the other benefits as well because the parents or future parents will be able to see how
exposing their child to more than one language will really benefit them in the long

  • 2. Legalizing Assisted Suicide Persuasive Essay With the advances in medicine, physicians have the ability to extend a patient s life many years passed what was possible even a mere fifty years ago. However, the quality of life of those extended years has become a major topic of discussion. Many times the surviving years are miserable for the patient, as well as the family. Legalizing assisted suicide would benefit Medicare by bringing it out of huge debt. Also, it would relieve the pain of terminal patients and open a door of opportunity for patients on the transplant list waiting for an organ. Because of all humans eventually die, every person should have the right to live a pain free life. Although some religions are opposed to it, assisted suicide should be legal in all of the United States to the terminally ill. Assisted suicide/euthanasia has been a controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most commonly known forms are passive and active euthanasia. Passive is when a patient refuses life saving medical treatment, and active is when lethal medication is injected into the patient. Euthanasia itself is intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for his or her alleged benefit (Batten 398 400). Assisted suicide is when someone provides an individual with the information, guidance, and means to take his or her own life with the intention that they be used for this purpose (Batten 398 400). An example of this could be a point in the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat sinking, Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. TREATING INFORMATION PRIVACY DEFICIENCIES IN CYBERSPACE Introduction Scholars are divided on the fundamental question of the Federal Trade Commission s (FTC) adjudicative capacity under the FTC Act. The FTC uses a reasonableness standard and considers each company s data security practices on a case by case basis. For more than a decade, the FTC s enforcement of data security actions invoked under §5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC Act) resulted in consent decrees and settlements, subsequently scrutinized by practitioners as carrying as much precedential value as judicial opinions. In 2015, the Third Circuit Court Appeals decision in Wyndham reinforced the FTC s authority to pursue enforcement actions against companies that do not have reasonable data security practices. Notwithstanding a motion to dismiss arguing that, inter alia, (1) the FTC lacks authority to regulate under §5 of the FTC Act and (2) the FTC failed to provide fair notice and of what constitutes reasonable data security standards and (3) §5 does not govern the security of payment card data; Wyndham marked the first time federal courts held that the FTC has authority under §5 of the FTC Act to enforce data security practices. Equipped with Wyndham, the FTC s guidelines in providing information about what acts constitutes unfair or deceptive practices carry more precedential force than ever before. • 7. Lean And Lean Case Study The basic concepts involved in lean and lean manufacturing was originated from The Toyota, one of the Japanese automaker in the global competition since decades. In 1988, Taiichi Ohno brought the lean concept into operation for the first time at Toyota and called it as Toyota Production System (TPS), to overcome economic crisis due to World War II. TPS was mainly developed to flourish with minimum resources. Owing to the immense shortages of material, human and financial resources, TPS had no other option but to choose the waste reduction policy to cut down the costs at the shop floor. Even in the hard economic crisis, Toyota sustained and was successful because of its higher efficiency in operation and improved production system. Before explaining the latter, Aristotle explains the role of the virtues in ethics and the good life through: community, excellence, role identity, integrity, judgement (phronesis), holism. The Aristotelean approach to community comes first, because we as an individual find our identity through institutions. Max Weber s Politics As A Vocation He who seeks the salvation of the soul, of his own and of others, should not seek it along the avenue of politics, for the quite different tasks of politics can only be solved by violence , stated Max Weber in his lecture Politics as a Vocation (Weber 4). In order to participate in politics, an individual will inevitably encounter times when they must break with traditional morality. An ethic of ultimate ends is not realistic or plausible for the field of politics, particularly when it is followed steadfastly. An ethic of responsibility is more compatible with politics, as it allows the response to a situation to be determined by the circumstances rather than inflexible rules, while still maintaining accountability for one s own actions. This flexibility is most necessitated by the politicians use of violence. There is a fallacy that an ethic of ultimate ends and an ethic of responsibility are incompatible and cannot be reconciled. A politician can follow an ethic of responsibility, while still following certain ethical principles of ultimate ends, on which they will hold their ground. Weber states, ... an ethic of ultimate ends and an ethic of responsibility are not absolute contrasts but rather supplements, which only in unison constitute a genuine man a man who can have the calling for politics (Weber 4). • 24. Gospel Of Mark Reason The Gospel of Mark Three Reasons to Study The Gospel of Mark written by John Mark around mid to late 60 s is the shortest yet possibly the most interesting of all four Gospels. It contains the narrative history, sermons, and parables of Jesus Christ in just sixteen quick chapters. And according to some instructors and authors it also has the most miracles of Christ within its pages. Three reasons for a student of the Bible to consider studying, not just reading the Gospel of Mark is one, the key word in Mark is Immediately which is used frequently causing the reader to move from one account to the next rapidly. We read in Mark 1:22 that They were astonished at his teachings, they were all amazed, Mark 1:27; they were utterly astounded Mark 6:51; the disciples were amazed at his words, Mark 10:24. The Bible student can take the example from our Lord who came here with purpose, to save the lost. The purpose of the Gospel of Mark is to show that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Messiah, the Son of God who was sent to suffer and to serve in order to rescue and restore mankind. It is widely recognized that the theme of this Gospel comes out chapter ten and verse forty five, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. In the third point we answer the question, why would these short writings be so well noted and recognized? And this is answered with the theme verse as it paints a picture of how Mark describes our Lord. Mark displays both Jesus divinity and his humanity. For example, Mark tells us that Jesus is the carpenter Mark 6:3. Matthew softens it a bit by saying that Jesus is the carpenter s son Matthew 13:55. Mark even tells us about Jesus emotions. Jesus was moved with compassion Mark 6:34; he sighed Mark 7:34; 8:12; he marveled at the unbelief of his own people Mark 6:6; he looked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also as seen in both poems, The Wife s Lament also has the imagery that has a cold feeling, relating to isolation. Visual imagery is shown in line forty eight saying, Under a rocky cliff, rimed with frost (WL). All three of these poems relate to one another with similar types of imagery in each work and also the feeling of coldness to portray the image of isolation and abandonment. The prenatal period provides an opportunity to make positive changes in all aspects of a women s health status and health maintenance behaviors. Early and adequate prenatal care provides the opportunity to identify significant risks to the pregnant women, and develop interventions to reduce or eliminate potential complications (Chapman Durham, 2010). Prenatal care encompasses the health care services provided to a women, from the time the women becomes pregnant until birth. Prenatal care consists of three major components, risk assessment, treatment of existing medical conditions and/or risk reduction, and patient education (Chapman Durham, 2010). Current guidelines established by the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists, regarding prenatal care for a low risk, expected full term pregnancy, include at least thirteen prenatal visits (ACOG, 2016). Recommendations suggest one visit per month for the first 28 weeks of pregnancy, bi monthly during 29 36 weeks and then every week until birth (ACOG, 2016). The weight of the cuts would be spread equally throughout the U.S. Government, being carried by both military and nonmilitary departments alike, meaning that the budget cuts to the military alone would total $55 billion annually each fiscal year. Among all the apostles, the change from Saul to Paul is the most amazing one for me. The name Saul was once a deadly word for the citizens under Saul s control. He hated Christians at first.
