3. The target audience is usually for adult females, but depending on the
magazine, could also target other consumers such as teenagers.
Most of the colours consist of being pink and purple, colours that are mostly
associated with females, certainly more than with males.
The people that they use in the front covers are usually models or famous
celebrities, and are in positions the majorities of females would aspire to be
in.
The bold headlines that are present on the covers also centre around topics
that would only interest females.
4. Everything is set up to make the models on the front of the magazine look as
attractive as possible, from the costumes and make up to the lighting.
The camera shots range mostly from close ups to mid shots. This means its
easier to notice and concentrate on the features of the models that makes
them so attractive, making readers envious in the best way possible.
The lighting will most likely always be high key, so that it can create a feeling
of freshness and happiness that would hopefully be associated with the
specific magazine.
The costumes that are worn will look of a high quality, potentially showing off
a well known brand. The large number of pristine dresses is used in order to
promote the lavished lifestyle that the models are living, which their
audiences can only dream of having.
5. Make up and editing can be looked similarly to the costumes, as it’s all chosen
and done so that the models can look as good as possible. Editing can affect
the overall appearance of the model, and can make them into what most
other females will want to look like, by changing the body appearance such as
making the model appear skinnier than they actually are. Make-up does a
similar job, just without the use of technology.
7. The target audience ranges depending on the magazine, but I’d say that the
majority would have the target audience at 20-35.
Clothing/costumes males wear on the magazine covers are usually a mix of
casual and smart, such as suit and ties to bomber jackets.
Uses world famous celebrities to catch the eye of people passing by, as they
will instantly recognise whoever it is that’s on the front, for example Drake
and Channing Tatum.
These celebrities are obviously very rich, living lavished and enviable
lifestyles. By putting them on the front, conducting interviews and describing
their lifestyle, it makes consumers imagine what their life would be like if
they were in a similar position.
8. The magazine covers usually sway away from using bright colours, with the
darker colours supposedly appearing more masculine, something you’d
classify most of the celebrities/models as.
Similarly to most magazine covers, the camera shots are mostly close up/ mid
shot so it’s easier to recognise who’s on the front cover, which is what
attracts a number of customers as they see it with their first glance.
Make-up and editing is not as obvious, although I’m sure it’s there to make
the models/ celebs look as good as possible.
