One of the very few teenage magazines for women in India. This magazine was shut in 2009. Citing rebranding as reason for its' closure. Seventeen was a very well known brand amongst its TG with high offline visibility through shows like 'Get Gorgeous' & 'Covergirl'
The magazine industry is being shaped by forces largely outside its control, from technology and demographics to economics. Seventeen India Magazine was shut down in 2008 citing the reason as ‘rebranding’ but the real reason was that it was not doing too well financially, the sales were dwindling and over all was a loss maker for Apricot Publications.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2. Target Audience
• Young Adults – Adults aged 18 - 30 years
• Girls / Woman
• Aimed at Audience in United Kingdom and United States.
• Higher educated / High classed women
Universities (College) / full time work
• Own a car so they can get to social events which may be advertised in the
magazine.
3. Vogue magazineThe magazine’s name is in a
complete different font from the
rest of the cover to help the
magazine’s name stand out and
for new readers to know which
magazine they are buying.
‘Summer Sizzle’ is in black bold
big letters which tells the reader
straight away what the magazine
will be about and which fashion
season it’s featuring. The model
on the front of the magazine is
dressed in summery clothes and
the background is a back, which
all shows the ‘Summer Sizzle’ The model’s name is in a different
colour and bigger than the rest of
the celebrity’s names which shows
the magazine will feature quite a
big part on her. It makes her sound
important because understand her
name it has a little headline saying
‘Heats up the beach’ and by
wording it like that it seems like she
is taking over whereas the other
celebrities don’t have anything near
or under their name.
‘65’ is in big bold letters and it’s
in the same colour as the
magazines name’s font and the
model’s name font which hints
that it might be the model that
will be showing all those ’65’
swimsuits. Swimsuits are also a
part of the ‘summer sizzle’.
In a much smaller fonts than the
rest of the cover, there are little
headlines at the bottom of the
magazine which tell us some of the
stories inside the magazine that
may not catch a readers eye while
flicking through the magazine.
‘Cool’ can help the readers feel
younger because it will make them
feel more trendy and up to date on
news and fashion. However, it can
also be used to give away more of the
‘Summer Sizzle’. The background is a
beach and it’s talking about cool
swimsuits which just means more of
Summer!
Source: 2010 June edition Vogue Magazine
The shot of the model is taken to
make it look as if she is looking
straight at the reader, which will
catch the reader’s eye even more!
Her body is positioned in a certain
way so she looks like she is trying to
talk to you.
The red writing stands out a lot
more against the blue and white
background, it also stands out
more than the black writing. The
red writing is clearly telling us the
main information and the what we
should be looking for.
4. Vogue Magazine
14% of the readers are male and the other 86% are female, so therefore
it’s clear that the magazine's main audience is female who are ages
from 16-34 years. That means the magazines will tend to have
trending fashions presented by well known models such as Kendall
Jenner. 28% of the readers are ages between 35-54 years and the
other 6% are ages 55 and over which means the magazines wont be
very suitable for people aged 35 and over as people will be starting
to focus more on families and careers and may not have as much
time for magazines and fashion. 63% of the readers earn above the
average income (£30,000), 52% of them are either in higher
education or have gone into higher education. 49% of the readers
are either business owners, managers, specialists or white collars
(which are middle classed people such as doctors and lawyers). So
overall they will be earning quite a lot of money which then means
they are able to afford some of the products that get advertised in
the magazine which then brings more income for the magazine. 61%
of the readers travel 2-3 times a year which means they may take
the magazine with them and then the magazine might start getting
new attention from a new country. 77% of the readers have a car
which means they can get to events such as fashion shows.
72% of the readers trust advertisement in vogue magazines and 65%
bought good advertised in the magazine, which means people don’t
just read the magazine, they believe in the products that get
advertised which means they will buy the magazine over and over
again to learn about new products and therefore the advertise will
earn money as well as Vogue.

5. Vogue Magazine Print
http://digital-assets.condenast.co.uk.s3.amazonaws.com/static/condenast/VOGUE%20Media%20Pack%2008062015%20June.pdf
The average age of the readers who read the printed out magazine are 34 years old which means more adults
buy the magazine compared to young adults. Vogue has a large readership, for just the UK it’s 1,205,000
people and 200,141 of them read the Printed magazine which means that people use technology to get hold of
the magazine. 32% of the readers are class AB which means they earn just under what the royal family earns
which means the chance of products being bought that have been advertised in the magazine are quite high.
The other 67% of readers are ABC class which are middle classed people which is around 24% of the country
who earn around £47,000 a year and have a house worth £170,000+ and an average saving account of £26,000
which means they will be buying products that get advertised as well. 92% of the readers buy designer fashion
and 93% of them own premium beauty. So therefore, when vogue advertises designer products or premium
makeup, it will make good sale due to the high percentage of how many people will already know of the brand
and will want to buy more of it.
6. Vogue Magazine
http://www.condenast.com/brands/glamour
Glamour magazine clearly is targeting women. The screenshot on the top has
been captured from their website. It’s clearly targeting those women who are
independent, happy and got a bright future ahead while having a positive attitude
towards life. Once people go on Vogue’s website they will read that and either feel
like they belong or feel like they are left out because they are not optimistic
enough to be part of this magazine.
The magazine aim to please women in a unique way, such as making them feel
good about themselves and feel like they have ‘the dream job, the perfect look
and the right guy’ all in their hands.
7. Glamour Magazine
Older audience, the
magazine is talking about
love and sex. It is in pink
so it can stand out more.
The magazine involves
more adult subject such
as ‘skype sex’.
The magazine’s name
is big bold letters and
has a matching colour
with the models top.
Headlines about rewards to
catch the readers eyes. They
put the pink against the white
background and under a
black handwriting so it stands
out more.
Her name is in white and
highlighted in pink, it’s
the only writing that has
highlighting around it, so
straight away we know
who she is.
It asks the audience a
question then answers
it straight away. It’s
persuading people to
go out and look at the
‘new hot outfits’,
which means they will
be selling their
advertisement.
8. Glamour Magazine Print
http://www.condenast.com/brands/glamour/media-kit/print
The total audience for Glamour magazine is
12,161,00 and 8,745,000 are aged between 18
to 49 years old. Which is quite a big gap
difference but it shows that the magazine clearly
features different information that attracts
people at any age. 96% of the audience are
female and the other 4% are male which tells us
that the magazine is more for females than
males. 67% of the audience are either in
education or have gone into education at some
point and 65% of the readers are employed,
which shows that more than half of the readers
will be able to understand the advertisement in
the magazine and may be able to afford it. Only
26% of the audience are middle classed jobs
such as lawyers and doctors and managing jobs,
which means their average wage is £46,000 a
year. Median HHI stands for median household
income, which is $64,280 which is roughly
£40,860 and that is Middle Class income.
9. Glamour Magazine Online
http://www.condenast.com/brands/glamour/media-kit/web
Glamour magazine online has
slightly different figures compared to
print. The average age for a reader
online is 35 years. Their median HHI
is $71,371 which is roughly £45,361
which is middle class on the social
status which means they are most
likely to be able to afford
advertisement in the magazine. 71%
of the readers are female and the
other 29% is male, the male viewers
online are much greater than they
are in print, which means maybe
when people read online they don’t
feel embarrassed as they would
when they go to buy a fashion
magazine. 75% are in education or
have been in education and 70% are
employed.
10. ELLE Magazine
The background is pink and
all the writing is in black.
Which means everything
stands out. However, there
are things that are in big bold
letters such as the celebrity
on the cover’s name. there is
other font, different sizes but
still in black.
This magazine also includes
adults subjects such as sex. It
has the word ‘KINKIER’ in big
bolder letters. The word
kinkier will make the
audience feel younger
because it’s a word used by
young people.
12. ELLE Magazine
http://www.ellemediakit.com/r5/showkiosk.asp?listing_id=4172450
The total audience for ELLE magazine is 5,794,000
and 5,327,000 are woman which means only
467,000 are male which is a a big difference! Elle
magazine has always been mostly aimed at women
and fashion it self. The average age for a reader for
Elle magazine is 37 years. 45% of the readers are
aged from 18 – 34 year, however 55% are aged 25-
49 years. Personally, those figures make me feel like
Elle is more suitable for people ages roughly form
22 to 49. 70% of the viewers are in education or
have already been in education, 67% are in
employment which means that items that will be
advertised could be afford by at least half of those
people.
Elle is the worlds number 1 fashion magazine,
having 4r5 editions across 60+ countries and having
23 million readers worldwide. This already shows us
that Elle features detail and stories that truly matter
to people and attracts people attentions and leaves
them wanting more.
Elle has a mission when creating each edition, the
mission is to inspire woman to enjoy their own style
and to explore more about themselves. Elle does
this by including different types of fashion, models
and stories to give people a variety of thought
about what is happening around them right now.
