William Brickman and Paulo Freire
William Brickman and Paulo Freire were two famous educators that brought their own ideas and
contributions to the education field. They shared some similarities, differences, challenges, and an
overall positive impact on education that is with us today.
The contribution of Brickman and Freire
Brickman s Contribution
Brickman thought it was essential to have comparative education, which is the idea that professionals
in the education field be exposed to different cultures, living in a different country, learning to speak
the language, sharing and gaining knowledge with their counterparts, and gaining insight in the
diversity of education.( Silova Brehm,2010) Brickman founded the Comparative education society. He

The bank concept is the concept that teachers teach what they want and the learners listen, teachers
decide what they will teach and what the learner will learn. Dialogue is the term used to describe a
mutual respect of teaching and learning, where both parties contribute and have a mutual respect for
one another. (Flanagan, 2005)
Similarities between Brickman and Freire
Both men were raised in lower socioeconomic neighborhoods. Brickman was raised in the Lower East
side of New York, where he was exposed to a variety of multilingual languages, media, and parents
who spoke a variety of languages. Brickman as a young child was exposed to different cultures and
history. (Silova Brehm, 2010). Freire s family found themselves in financial crisis after the Wall Street
crashed in 1929 and his father took a financial loss that resulted in the family moving to a lower
socioeconomic area in Brazil. (Flanagan, 2005). This financial crisis allowed Freire to witness
firsthand the poverty of the peasants and the effect it had on their education. (Flanagan, 2005). The
similarities of both educators living in poor conditions seemed to be a motivator for both men s
contribution to the education field.
The differences between Brickman and Freire
Brickman focused on comparative education, and promoting the idea of professionals in education to

Poverty Is Not A Task Of Charity Essay
INTRODUCTION
Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice. Like slavery and Apartheid, poverty
is not natural. It is man made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.
Sometimes it falls on generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness
blossom. Nelson Mandela. Poverty at its worst involves hunger leading to starvation, inadequate
shelter or housing and lack of clothing. Justice is the idea that all people, everywhere in the world,
have the right to a life of dignity. This means a life free from poverty, violence, discrimination or
human rights violations. A world where justice exists in a world where all people are included in a
society and all people can claim their rights to education, shelter, and health care regardless of how
poor or rich they are. Whenever we speak of poverty we must speak of injustice. But more than that,
we must speak of HOPE. To give hope we must have it and if we are to build hope in others it will
require something of humanity. It is found in our actions. Poverty is a state of deprivation, or a lock of
the usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions.
The most common measure of poverty in the U.S is the poverty threshold set by the U.S government.
Almost half of the world over three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day. The poorest people
will have less access to health, education, and other services; such as: problems of

Essay about The Perception of Listening
Listen up! Are you really listening? What is listening and why is it important? This paper will address
the viewpoint of listening skills and its outcome. Listening is an essential tool, which is one of the
constructive aspects in the communication process, for communicating with other people. To listen
well is a talent that is learned. However, for people to listen effectively, they would need to practice to
obtain the skill. As with any new skill, learning to listen takes effort, attention, and practice (Stewart,
2006, p. 202). Listening skills allow people to make sense of and understand what another person is
saying. In other words, listening skills allow you to identify with the meaning of what people are
talking about. Listening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since listening plays an essential role in the communication process, developing listening skills are
important because they will help interpret what the speaker is saying during feedback. In other words,
the listener should be able to respond to what the speaker talked about for clarification purposes.
Accordingly, becoming a better listener, and depending on the situation, there are three types of
listening strategies that would be beneficial to ensure effective communication with other people.
Hybels and Weaver (2007) states that active listening, critical listening, and empathic listening are
three different tactics that can be useful in diverse situations (p. 92).For instance, critical listeners
focal point is to listen with determination and an open mind. They need to recognize and expect to
learn something new from the speaker and ask questions about their viewpoints. Defining Listening
Barriers The second aspect of listening is to avoid the barriers to efficient listening. Since words can
be influential, there are some issues that may get in the way of listening effectively, such as bias,
accents, and noise. These specific matters will result in poor listening communication because there
are some people who are collective listeners because of their favoritism toward specific speakers; the
language is not clear due to diverse accents, and depending on the surroundings, the

The Biotechnology Innovation Organization defines the biotech industry as, technology based on

choices to represent the biotechnology industry. My first choice was AbbVie Inc., or (ABBV), and on
the date of purchase their stock was trading at $64.08 per share. On the date of purchasing their stock I
bought 312 shares equaling a total of $19,992.96. This company is known for discovering, developing,
and marketing both biopharmaceuticals and small molecule drugs. One drug that is known as the
world s best selling anti inflammatory medicine is Humira, which was made by AbbVie. Drugs like

Monetary and Fiscal Policy Essay examples
Monetary and fiscal policy and their applications to the third world countries with a huge informal
sector
This essay seeks to explain what are monetary and fiscal policy and their roles and contribution to the
economy. This includes the role of the government in regulating the economical performance of a
country. It also explains the different features and tools of monetary and fiscal policy and their
performance when applied to the third world countries with a huge informal sector.
Monetary Policy
Monetary policy is the mechanism of a country s monetary authority (usually the central bank) taking
up measures to regulate the supply of money and the rates of interest. It involves controlling money in
the economy to promote economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This involves buying or selling financial instruments like bonds in exchange of money to be deposited
with the central bank. By selling the financial instruments, the central bank mops up the cash in
circulation. On the other hand, selling injects money thus increasing the supply of money (Bernanke
2006).
Interest rates
By increasing or reducing the nominal interest rates, the money supply is either increased or reduced.
When the rate goes up, people are not able to borrow, thus the money does not enter into circulation.
But when the rates go down, people borrow in big numbers therefore increasing the money supply. So
the monetary authority just needs to adjust the interest rates either upwards or downwards, and in
direct results will be reflected on the money on circulation. Discount window lending
This is the situation where the commercial banks and other lending institutions borrow from the
central bank at lower interest rates compared to how they will lend. This gives the institution a chance
to vary credit conditions depending on the central bank lending rates. If the central bank raises its
lending rates, then the other lending institutions will have to raise their rates too, thus discouraging the
public from borrowing. But if the central bank lowers its rate, then commercial banks and other
institutions will be forced to lower their rates too. This will encourage the

Compatibilism Vs Calvinism
Third, the two will concept is not explicit in Scripture; whereas, as cited by Piper, the express will for
all persons to be saved is (1 Timothy 2:4; see also 1 Timothy 4:10; Titus 2:11; 2 Peter 3:9; Ezekiel
18:23, 32; 33:11). Both terms thél? (1 Timothy 2:4) and boúlomai (2 Peter 3:9) are used regarding
God s express desire, will, for all to be saved. Additionally, Calvinism s reliance upon various
distinctions that may matter in Extensivist soteriological approaches are distinctions without a
difference in light of Calvinism commitment to compatibilism.
This is because compatibilism means that God s will (what will happen) is precisely what He desires
to happen, and there is not the slightest degree of deterministic difference between ... Show more

Surely the Calvinists endeavor to defend the two wills of God makes their claim of sola scriptura seem
a frail stalwart for defending the sufficiency of Scripture against foes who employ the same tactics; an
ineffectualness born and sustained by their own forays into the academy of secrecy to bolster their
theology when it conflicts with explicit revelation.
David Engelsma, a strong Calvinist, says of this position and the Calvinists who retreat to mystery that
God is gracious only to some in predestination, but gracious to all in the gospel, and that God wills
only some to be saved in predestination but wills all to be saved by the gospel, is flat, irreconcilable
contradiction. It is not paradox, but contradiction. I speak reverently: God Himself cannot reconcile

Pilot Fatigue Essay
To be an airline pilot is most of the time described in terms of duties, job requirements, proficiency,
training, employment opportunity, and good salary. These features picture a plain profile that fit into
the specification of just an ordinary career. However, an aviation career comes with many challenges
than expected. When focusing on statistics about being a pilot, it indicates a lifestyle that many inspire
to work despite the many challenges that face this career. The challenges that pilot face revolve around
being rested during long flights, performing unexpected, simultaneous tasks, and passing the medical
examination in order to remain qualified. When combined with fatigue due to long flight hours, these
different aspects can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In modern aviation, pilot fatigue has become a vital problem that needs urgent intervention. The full
effect of fatigue is frequently unforeseen however, many of its harmful effects have been known for a
long time. When comparing with individuals who usually have enough rest, individuals who suffer
from fatigue act slowly, have difficulties in memory, and are involved in many mistakes. In addition,
the negative impact can or may lead to aviation accidents and errors (Caldwell, Mallis, Caldwell, Paul,
Miller, Neri, 2009).
Some of the negative effects that contribute to airplane accidents are related to fatigue. Associated
mainly with long flights, irregular work schedules performed by pilots may lead to incidences such as
menstrual irregularities, stomach problems, weight gain, cardiovascular problems, and cold flu.
Unfortunately, there are attempts to provide limitation on flight time and scheduling provisions to
pilots. Moreover, accident surveys and aviation studies all indicate that fatigue is an emerging hazard
and a major concern in airline industries around the world. Long flying pilots often attribute the cause
of their fatigue to circadian disturbances and sleep deprivation, which is as a result of time zone
transitions. While short flying pilots attribute their fatigue on workload and sleep

The Discovery Of The Network Devices
1. Describe the steps you would take to determine the needs of the organization (the discovery of the
network devices)
As a consultant that was brought in to determine the needs of the organization, the primary starting
point is content discovery. The art of content discovery is to get an understanding of the business, its
network structure, organizational requirements and the resources that are available. Because the
number one rule in all problem solving manifests, is first to know and get an understand the problem,
the problem that you are tasked with or trying to solve.
Therefore, the first element of content discovery is to get an understanding of the organization. Who is
the company, what industry do they operate in, what services or products do they provide, what is
their mission statement, what are their daily operations, are many of the questions that needs to be
answered, often times before the job starts. The second element is to understand the organization from
an internal point of view. It starts with understanding the structure of the organization, getting a high
level organization chart to help determine the divisional structure of the organization, their
communication methods, the Service Level Agreements that they have in place, and their geographical
profile in order to know whether there are additional sites in other regions. The next step within the
second element is to get the structure and technical level of local and remote IT divisions, their

Sealing the Fate of North America The battle of the Plains of Abraham was fought on the 13th of
September 1759. It was the result of a three month British siege of the French North American capital
of Quebec City. Although the battle lasted for a short period of time, involved comparatively few
troops, and caused few casualties, the effects of the battle were far reaching. The British victory at the
battle resulted both in the death of the French general the Marquis de Montcalm and the British major
general James Wolf. More importantly, the battle resulted in the capture of Quebec, which in turn, led
to the capture of the remaining French territories of North America. In the previous years of French

in North America. The remaining French troops attempted to re take Quebec but were unable due to
lack of siege equipment and reinforcements. French forces retreated to their last Canadian stronghold
Montreal. Montreal, in turn, surrendered on the 8th of September 1760. Following the capture of
Montreal, French resistance had collapse, and there were no more real threats to the new British
territories of North America. In the treaty of Paris, which officially ended the 7 years war in North
America, France ceded the Louisiana territory to Spain to compensate for Spain s losses, and regained
Guadeloupe and Martinique as well as Saint Pierre and Miquelon and fishing rights in the Gulf of the

Sufism Is The Meaning Of Mysticism
INTRODUCTION TO SUFISM
The term Sufism is a very broad, paradoxical term because it has many connotations placing it within
the wider sphere of polemics is a somewhat difficult activity. From the view of Islamic theologians,
tradionalists and Non Islamic scholars have much debated the areas of Islam, Sufism and mysticism.
In this essay, the meaning of Sufism and the meaning of Mysticism, and whether the two complement
each other or whether they are in fact, complete opposite. It will also be discussed whether Sufism has
a Mystical element if it fits into Islamic religion. An analysis of what Sufism means to a Non Muslim
reader will also be examined and how a Non Muslim reader views Sufism in the modern world of

A very lucid description would be something of a spiritual reality pr not of this world which could be
described as having some kind of communication with God or a divine being.
What is meant by Sufism? As mentioned in the introduction, Sufism is a difficult word to employ,
because first and foremost to understand whether it is a mystical reality or not, and secondly to define
what it is in its actual sense has yet to be given as a definitive answer. For different individuals,
Sufism means different things. For Alan Godlas, the author of Sufism has many paths has said that
Sufism is defined by its adherents to be that inner mystical dimension is Islam. For others such as
Anne Marie Schimmell as a Non Muslim academic and one who wrote extensively on Islamic
Mysticism, Such is the case with Sufism, the generally accepted name for Islamic Mystiscm. Yet for
the sake of brevity, Sufism is viewed to be either the path that one walks on to be free of all sins, or to
gain a closer relationship with an ultimate reality, which is God. In its early stages of development,
Sufism referred to nothing but the internationalization of Islam. According to

covered dresses, tea parties and fancy lifestyles come to mind. However, the Victorian era is much

Essay about North by Northwest, by Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock s film North by Northwest (1959) is famed as a classic man on the run thriller,
following protagonist Roger Thornhill as he flees across state lines in a mad dash to save his life and
unravel the mystery to his extraordinary predicament. However, mid way through the film Thornhill s
quandary is further complicated by the introduction of Eve Kendall, a beautiful yet mysterious woman
he encounters on a train during his escape from the authorities and people trying to kill him. During
the dining room scene on the train, Hitchcock expertly uses the camera to convey the characters
thoughts and feelings. Interestingly, in a film that has several sequences with complicated

Once the flirtations between the two in intensify, Hitchcock transitions into using close shots,
beginning when Eve discloses her bribe arranging Thornhill being seated with her, and her subsequent
reveal that she knows Thornhill wanted for murder. The use of the close shot provides a better, more
intimate view of their expressions as they banter back and forth and the sexual innuendos ramp up.
Thornhill s thoughts are particularly evident across his face as he changes from showing interest in the
attractive woman across from him, to tension at being recognized by her, to unabashed glee at the
prospect of sleeping with same said beautiful woman, and finally to alarm as he learns police are
boarding the train. In contrast to Thornhill s expressive looks, Hitchcock shows Eve s as being more
controlled and understated. Throughout her linguistic dance with Thornhill, Eve manages to maintain
an air of surety about herself, revealing only those pieces of information that she wants him to know.
She manages to exude a sense of cool certainty and control during arguably the most sexually
suggestive moment of the film: in the only profile shot of the scene, the camera shows Eve as she
slowly blows out the flame on the match Thornhill uses to light her cigarette, clasping his hand as she
does so. This aura of calm calculation gives the sense that she is in complete control, no doubt due

Analysis Of Game Of Thrones
Game of Thrones is a show that I have recently started watching. I usually don t watch television
shows of this genre, but this one is very entertaining. Game of Thrones is a good fantasy drama
because of the variety of settings, character development, and the suspense within the show.
It is important for a fantasy drama to have a variety of settings or change of scenery every so often
because this adds more to the show and keeps viewers from becoming bored. In Game of Thrones
there are many different settings showed. In this show, there are many characters who believe they are
the one true king or queen. The plot of the show is the conquest of these different characters to take
their place on the Iron Throne as the king or queen, hence the name
Game of Thrones. The many different characters and showing the story of their journeys is what
allows for the many different settings. The show shows seven different kingdoms, there is the
North Kingdom, Kingdom of Mountain and Vale, Kingdom of Isles and Rivers, Kingdom of the
Rock, Kingdom of the Stormlands, Kingdom of the Reach and the Principality of Dorne. Scenes take
place in each one of the settings listed and many other settings in places between the kingdoms.
Another important quality of a good fantasy drama is showing character development.
Character development allows viewers to watch the characters grow and shows more than one side of
the character, this gives the characters more depth and makes them more interesting and

Epicurus And John Stuart Mill
In part one of our book, The Good Life, we studied five different philosopher s viewpoints on what is
needed in order for a person to have a good, fulfilling life. They all included the concepts of pleasure
and happiness to some extent in their theories, but they all approached the ideas in different ways. The
two hedonists we studied, Epicurus and John Stuart Mill, place heavy emphasis on the importance of
pleasure. They both believe that pleasure is a necessity in the ideal life. Jean Kazez agreed with their
viewpoints in her theory and said that happiness was a necessity for a good life. Epicurus and Mill
also argue that there is nothing else that we ultimately desire beyond pleasure and that it is an intrinsic
good. According to hedonism, pleasure is the most important good and the ultimate goal in life.
Epicurus states that pleasure is in intrinsic good. Mill agrees with him, but along with Kazez, says that
happiness is also an elemental good. In Epicurus theory, he defines pleasure as the absence of pain.
Mill also uses this definition, but applies it to happiness as well. Therefore, we can agree on a
definition for the two terms that makes sense: happiness and pleasure are both the absence of pain.
According to Mill, happiness and pleasure are correlated. He says that happiness is the existence of
pleasure. This is what drives all of our actions and desires. We desire things because it will bring us
pleasure in some way and we avoid things because

The first effect of moving to a new town or city can be found in educational life. Since people are
looking to a better education, they move to a country that can give them the possibility of be a good
professional. For example, in Angola my country, if you want find a great job; you have to have an
international certificate. This means that the people who are living in another country have more
possibility to achieve the work. Sometimes the companies on my country prefer consider people who
are from another country. In short, I am the exactly example because I moved from my country to
U.S.A to look for a spectacular certificate.
The second effect of moving to a new town or city can be found in psychologist state of a person. For
example, when I arrived here I had some mental problems because always I was thinking about my
family that I left in Angola. A person who is homesick suffers the consequences alone and thinks a lot
about the family that is away from her. In my opinion, think about the family who people left causes
serious problem and the person cannot concentrate on her real objective there. In addition, people have
to be strong and control all their feelings when they are in another town.
The third effect of moving to a new town is that

William Shakespeare Mentorship Essay
Shakespeare: A Question of Authorship
For centuries scholars have been examining the question whether William Shakespeare wrote all the
work that has been credited to him. In his short 52 years of life, he is said to have authored 154
sonnets, two epic poems, and 38 five act plays. Following the death of Shakespeare, many scholars
began researching information that may have proven why Shakespeare could not have been the
primary author or the author at all for many of these works. Four theories as to why Shakespeare could
not have written all the work that has been credited to him include: his limited education as an
individual of common birth; the shear difficulty and near impossibility for one individual to write so

Some believe that Queen Elizabeth I, wrote works attributed to Shakespeare because she devoted
herself to the study of the classical period and enjoyed theatrics. According to Sir Roger Naunton,
Queen Elizabeth translated one of the tragedies of Euripides from Greek to English for her own
amusement (Brown). Queen Elizabeth would be a good candidate because she had the best schooling,
understand royal court life, and a lot of theater as well as translation. During her time it was unlikely
to have a woman writer and Elizabeth actually did write other literary poems found in her possession (

By 1929 The Economic Bubble Had Popped And The Great...
By 1929 the economic bubble had popped and the Great Depression had caused extreme poverty and
unemployment rates across the modern world. In Germany, this meant that by 1929 1/3 of the german
population was unemployed. This caused a surge of support for the Nazi party and by 1933 Hitler had
taken control of Germany. Over the coming years, Hitler s regime pulled the country out of the Great
Depression, while also addressing the problem of degeneracy in the country. To fix the problems
Hitler saw with Germany he used ideas and techniques of modernity toward a goal of creating a
country and regime that was antithetical to modernity. Once Hitler was in power he had 3 main

Another large economic policy was the creation of the German Labour Front. The Government
abolished all trade unions and created a single government run trade union and made membership
mandatory. The german labor front was able to set high wages and also set up a Strength through Joy
program that gave benefits to workers. The government also some machinery and incentivized
companies to higher workers. The largest action Hitler made towards the reduction in the
unemployment rate was with the rearmament and industrialization of Germany. The nazis nationalized
and established state owned and operated companies. The government also worked with IG Farben,
the aviation industry and other large industrial companies to rearm the country and employ mass
amounts of people. Hitler announced that Germany would not longer adhere to the Treaty of Versailles
and Germany then remilitarized the Saarland and Rhineland. This gave Germany access to a large area
of production. Another aspect of the rearmament of Germany was from June 1935 and onward men
between 18 and 25 were forced to join the RAD and receive six months of military training. Between
1932 and 1938 the GNP rose by about 81.42%, the national income rose by about 81.64%, the
industrial production rose by about 110.34% and the unemployment fell by about 92.86%. The
rearmament really started to increase when Hitler and the other Nazi leaders introduced

Hester Prynne And Mary In The Scarlet Letter
The character of Hester Prynne was written as a modern day image of the Virgin Mary. There are
many similarities and things that happen that support this statement. Nathaniel Hawthorne describes
Hester as a beautiful woman which is how Mary is described in the Bible. The young woman, perfect
elegance on a large scale. (Hawthorne 46).The Major difference between these Hester and Mary is that
Hester s adultery is being compared to virgin purity and how the public viewed these two characters.

The Pros And Cons Of The American Civil War
Railroads are not nearly as popular in the United States as they are in European countries. Prior to the
American Civil War, railroads were a fairly new, and untried, invention. Compared to carriages and
the other modes of transportation at the time, the railroad was far superior. Due to this superiority, they
were used to transport soldiers, food, and supplies. A systemic railroad began to spread all across the
nation, and both sides of the war used them to their advantage. The railroad construction started as
soon as possible. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was founded in 1828 and its first section of rails
was open in 1830. At its peak, The B O Railroad spread from the east coast all the way to the Illinois,
and was over 5,550 miles long! In 1831, the state of Maryland granted the B O Railroad and charter to
begin construction of a line connecting Maryland to Washington D.C. The south, which was mostly a
society built on agriculture, was at a huge disadvantage when it came to railroads. Two thirds of all the
railroads in the nation at the time were in the north. The southern states couldn t transport anything as
easy as the north, and their income mostly relied on the exportation of their crops. Without this source
of income, the Confederacy s economy was crippled. Arguably, railroads were the reason for the South
s eventual defeat. By 1861, 22,000 miles of track had been laid in the Northern states and 9,500 miles
in the South. In the south, there were cities that

History Rhymes
A NAME IS MUCH MORE THAN JUST A NAME. HISTORY DOES NOT REPEAT ITSELF but
sometimes it rhymes.
I m just asking simple question and expect simple answers.
Q: is it alright to name an Indian kid Ajmal Amir Kasab?
Q: is it okay to name a kid living in America Osama bin Laden?
One of the lessons of history is that nothing is often a good thing to do and always a clever thing to
say. If we do not learn from the mistakes of history, we are doomed to repeat them. When it comes to
the lessons of history there are doubtless many things we could aspire to learn.
Some of those would be more practically useful, in terms of contributing to the normal and decent
functioning of well meaning societies than others. One lesson of history is that religion has many
lives, and a habit of resurrection. How often in the past have God and religion died and been reborn!
Atheism ran wild in the India of Buddha s youth, and
Buddha himself founded a religion without a god; after his death Buddhism developed a complex
theology including gods, saints, and hell. It is an utter shame that Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor

from people who just simply do not understand how it can be spread or how the individual may have

the media portray the illness. Legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was

accessing facilities, goods or services and the managing, buying or renting of land or property. Parts of
it became law in December 1996, and other parts have been introduced over time. For example, within
organisations and businesses it became unlawful for employers to treat disabled people less favorably

government size, taxes and building the US military back up. People got fed up with Carter and the

some views of feminism. Reagan supported the same conservative views so he gathered much of their

The Effect Of Vitamin B12 On The Body
Vitamin B12 is a water soluble vitamin that s main function is to keep the brain and nervous system
operating properly. B12 also helps aid the formation of the blood. Good food sources of Vitamin B12
are found in sardines, Salomon, tuna, cod, lamb, shrimp, beef, yogurt and cows milk. Folic acid helps
to produce and maintain new cell development, as well as preventing changes in the DNA that could
possibly lead to cancer. Folic acid is found in foods such as spinach, broccoli, asparagus, beets, liver,
beans and whole wheat products. When pregnant if women consume a combination of vitamin b12
and folic acid they tend to lower their risk of neural tube defects in their children. In this essay I will
review different articles in order to come to the conclusion of when a women is pregnant and takes a
vitamin B12 and folate supplement she will reduce their chance of her child having Neural Tube
Defects or Spina Bifita.
Neural tube defects are birth defects of the spine, brain, and the spinal cord. Usually neural tube
defects happen in the first month of a women s pregnancy. Most of the time neural tube defects occur
even before the women know she is pregnant. The two most common types of neural tube defects are
spina bifita and anencephaly. In spina bifita, the spinal column does not close all of the way, which
causes nerve damage that leads to paralysis in the child s legs. In anencephaly, most parts of the brain

The Importance Of Setting In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a fictional novel that takes place in four main settings.
These settings include West Egg, East Egg, The Valley of the Ashes, and New York City. These four
settings are literary tools in which the author uses to highlight the idea of the various failures and
disappointments of the American Dream. This paper will compare and contrast the settings of The
Valley of Ashes and New York City in The Great Gatsby. The Valley of Ashes is a wasteland and
desolate place, located between East and West Egg and New York City. The quote where ashes take

their matters from people. Tom only interacts with his mistress in the city, and Gatsby only sees Meyer
Wolfsheim there. There are although many ways that these two settings contrast. The Valley of Ashes
is dry, grey and dirty in comparison to New York City which is a busy city with green grass and lush
parks with many different types of people. The Valley of Ashes symbolizes the plight of the poor, and
the individuals who live among the dirty ashes lose their spirit as a result. New York City on the other
hand, exudes hopes, dreams, and an atmosphere of wild parties and indulgences.

Global And Being Known As A Successful International...
Going global and being known as a successful international corporate is an impressive achievement
that almost all companies aim to attain. To successfully convert a business from domestic to
international, a firm will need to consider a new set of factors that might not necessarily affect a local
only company. Companies use a number of tactics to achieve their global expansion plans, including
exporting goods, forming strategic partnerships, licensing, acquiring businesses and building new
facilities in multiple countries. Often, a company may need to try out few strategies in order to find
the perfect fit. Many global expansion failures results from companies temptation/decision to apply
their domestic management approach to global operations. Grolsch, like other companies, encountered
many impasses during their international expansions. Nonetheless, much can be learned from Grolsch,
successes and failures.
 Grolsch s global strategy is based on the MABA process that is described in the case. What is your
opinion of the MABA process?
While there are great potentials in exploring new opportunities overseas, there can also be
considerable risks associated in doing business in an unfamiliar environment. Companies need a
comprehensive approach to assess the benefits and potential pitfalls in going global. Grolsch does so

The Nature Of Violence In Grendel And Beowulf
War is an inescapable pattern in history. The world is constantly in a state of war. In America, we see a
war amongst ourselves with racism, discrimination, and hate crime. These wars seem meaningless,
and reveal that humans have an ingrained yearning for violence. While reading the novels Beowulf,
told from the perspective of a hero, and Grendel, told from the perspective of the monster, the innately
violent nature of humans becomes apparent. Throughout Beowulf and Grendel, killing and war are
common themes. Both novels feature violent scenes that show the cruel nature of humans. In Grendel,
the humans attack because they feel unsure about Grendel s motives and uneasy by his scary
appearance. When the humans went to war, they often expressed joy and would hold parties to
congratulate themselves for killing others (Heaney 35). Throughout the novel, Beowulf doings [of
murder] were praised over and over again (Heaney 57) by the citizens of his city. The positive
response to these brutal acts demonstrates the human wanting for violence. History demonstrates mans
violent tendencies. Jeffrey Goldstein, a psychologist at Temple University, says that We write and
teach our history in terms of violent events, marking time by wars (Kohn 1). We measure our
existence based on the violence we create. The climax of our histories is measured by the violence and
wars we endure. The non war periods during history are selective times of reporting (Kohn 1), where
we report violence

The term Montessori Philosophy originated from the name of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the most
influential pioneers in early childhood education. She advised an education which combines a

Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future.
(The Absorbent Mind ,P2)
During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that
children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found
that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the
materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need
which made him normalized.
Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child
uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is
served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this
is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful,
spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40).
We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by
himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to
help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and
bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role.
Maria Montessori stated that at certain stages

2015Introduction: Cleopatra Who? Who was Cleopatra? Who is Cleopatra? Portrayed as both
goddess and monster in her own lifetime, through the ages she has become both saint and sinner,
heroine and victim, femme fatale and star crossed lover, politician and voluptuary, black and white. A

Onychomadesis
Onychomadesis is the separation of the nail plate from the nail bed. It can often look like a more
severe case of Beau s Lines, and leaves the nails with a dull appearance. They will also have white
streaks down the length of them and feel very brittle. There is no discomfort, pain, or swelling with
this disease. A diagnosis is made through examination of the nail plate. The difference between
onychomadesis and Beau s Line s is that there is a complete stoppage of nail production with
onychomadesis. Onychomadesis may be a sign of a greater, underlying problem and is known to be
linked with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease in children.
Causes
Onychomadesis occurs whenever the matrix is damaged and stops producing new cells. Localized
trauma can cause single digit onychomadesis, meaning it only occurs on one nail. Local trauma can be
any damage to the fingernail that harms the matrix. When the matrix is harmed, the fingernails are
unhealthy and will not grow. Multi digit onychomadesis suggests a systemic problem such as fever,

Analysis Of Pat Barker As A Memory
A memory has different ways to function that varies from one person to another. The memory itself is
defined as the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information. Trauma is something else
that can be attached to a memory and it is defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience.
Memory plays a tremendous role in our lives as well as in our society. A memory can prevent us from
making mistakes as well as it can haunt us to the point of breakdown. Are all memories worth to be
reminded of? In Regeneration by Pat Barker as well as in The IMIGRANTS by W.G. Sebald we see a
flow of narratives that underline traumatic memories. On this paper, we will focus our attention on
Billy Prior, one of the characters in Regeneration, and Ambros Adelwarth of The Emigrants who are
somehow fighting their memories.
Billy Prior and Ambros Adelwarth both represent a strong problem of memory, they both have a clear
memory of their past, but sharing them is one of the problems in the first place. Let begin by talking
about Billy Prior, a conflicted and complicated character being a soldier who had had a difficult life,
both at war and at home as he mentions to Rivers about the front: Look, you might like to think it s

They shared some similarities, differences, challenges, and an overall positive impact on education that is with us today. The contribution of Brickman and Freire Brickman s Contribution Brickman thought it was essential to have comparative education, which is the idea that professionals in the education field be exposed to different cultures, living in a different country, learning to speak the language, sharing and gaining knowledge with their counterparts, and gaining insight in the diversity of education.( Silova Brehm,2010) Brickman founded the Comparative education society. • 3. Poverty Is Not A Task Of Charity Essay INTRODUCTION Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity; it is an act of justice. Like slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom. Nelson Mandela. Poverty at its worst involves hunger leading to starvation, inadequate shelter or housing and lack of clothing. Justice is the idea that all people, everywhere in the world, have the right to a life of dignity. This means a life free from poverty, violence, discrimination or human rights violations. A world where justice exists in a world where all people are included in a society and all people can claim their rights to education, shelter, and health care regardless of how poor or rich they are. Whenever we speak of poverty we must speak of injustice. But more than that, we must speak of HOPE. To give hope we must have it and if we are to build hope in others it will require something of humanity. It is found in our actions. In other words, the listener should be able to respond to what the speaker talked about for clarification purposes. Accordingly, becoming a better listener, and depending on the situation, there are three types of listening strategies that would be beneficial to ensure effective communication with other people. Hybels and Weaver (2007) states that active listening, critical listening, and empathic listening are three different tactics that can be useful in diverse situations (p. 92).For instance, critical listeners focal point is to listen with determination and an open mind. They need to recognize and expect to learn something new from the speaker and ask questions about their viewpoints. It also explains the different features and tools of monetary and fiscal policy and their performance when applied to the third world countries with a huge informal sector. Monetary Policy Monetary policy is the mechanism of a country s monetary authority (usually the central bank) taking up measures to regulate the supply of money and the rates of interest. It involves controlling money in the economy to promote economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This involves buying or selling financial instruments like bonds in exchange of money to be deposited with the central bank. By selling the financial instruments, the central bank mops up the cash in circulation. On the other hand, selling injects money thus increasing the supply of money (Bernanke 2006). Interest rates By increasing or reducing the nominal interest rates, the money supply is either increased or reduced. When the rate goes up, people are not able to borrow, thus the money does not enter into circulation. But when the rates go down, people borrow in big numbers therefore increasing the money supply. So the monetary authority just needs to adjust the interest rates either upwards or downwards, and in direct results will be reflected on the money on circulation. Discount window lending This is the situation where the commercial banks and other lending institutions borrow from the central bank at lower interest rates compared to how they will lend. This gives the institution a chance to vary credit conditions depending on the central bank lending rates. If the central bank raises its lending rates, then the other lending institutions will have to raise their rates too, thus discouraging the public from borrowing. But if the central bank lowers its rate, then commercial banks and other institutions will be forced to lower their rates too. This will encourage the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Surely the Calvinists endeavor to defend the two wills of God makes their claim of sola scriptura seem a frail stalwart for defending the sufficiency of Scripture against foes who employ the same tactics; an ineffectualness born and sustained by their own forays into the academy of secrecy to bolster their theology when it conflicts with explicit revelation. David Engelsma, a strong Calvinist, says of this position and the Calvinists who retreat to mystery that God is gracious only to some in predestination, but gracious to all in the gospel, and that God wills only some to be saved in predestination but wills all to be saved by the gospel, is flat, irreconcilable contradiction. Thornhill s thoughts are particularly evident across his face as he changes from showing interest in the attractive woman across from him, to tension at being recognized by her, to unabashed glee at the prospect of sleeping with same said beautiful woman, and finally to alarm as he learns police are boarding the train. In contrast to Thornhill s expressive looks, Hitchcock shows Eve s as being more controlled and understated. Game of Thrones is a good fantasy drama because of the variety of settings, character development, and the suspense within the show. It is important for a fantasy drama to have a variety of settings or change of scenery every so often because this adds more to the show and keeps viewers from becoming bored. In Game of Thrones there are many different settings showed. In this show, there are many characters who believe they are the one true king or queen. The plot of the show is the conquest of these different characters to take their place on the Iron Throne as the king or queen, hence the name Game of Thrones. The many different characters and showing the story of their journeys is what allows for the many different settings. The show shows seven different kingdoms, there is the North Kingdom, Kingdom of Mountain and Vale, Kingdom of Isles and Rivers, Kingdom of the Rock, Kingdom of the Stormlands, Kingdom of the Reach and the Principality of Dorne. Scenes take place in each one of the settings listed and many other settings in places between the kingdoms. Another important quality of a good fantasy drama is showing character development. Epicurus And John Stuart Mill In part one of our book, The Good Life, we studied five different philosopher s viewpoints on what is needed in order for a person to have a good, fulfilling life. They all included the concepts of pleasure and happiness to some extent in their theories, but they all approached the ideas in different ways. The two hedonists we studied, Epicurus and John Stuart Mill, place heavy emphasis on the importance of pleasure. They both believe that pleasure is a necessity in the ideal life. Jean Kazez agreed with their viewpoints in her theory and said that happiness was a necessity for a good life. Epicurus and Mill also argue that there is nothing else that we ultimately desire beyond pleasure and that it is an intrinsic good. According to hedonism, pleasure is the most important good and the ultimate goal in life. Epicurus states that pleasure is in intrinsic good. Mill agrees with him, but along with Kazez, says that happiness is also an elemental good. In Epicurus theory, he defines pleasure as the absence of pain. Mill also uses this definition, but applies it to happiness as well. Therefore, we can agree on a definition for the two terms that makes sense: happiness and pleasure are both the absence of pain. According to Mill, happiness and pleasure are correlated. He says that happiness is the existence of pleasure. This is what drives all of our actions and desires. Prior to the American Civil War, railroads were a fairly new, and untried, invention. Compared to carriages and the other modes of transportation at the time, the railroad was far superior. Due to this superiority, they were used to transport soldiers, food, and supplies. A systemic railroad began to spread all across the nation, and both sides of the war used them to their advantage. The railroad construction started as soon as possible. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was founded in 1828 and its first section of rails was open in 1830. At its peak, The B O Railroad spread from the east coast all the way to the Illinois, and was over 5,550 miles long! In 1831, the state of Maryland granted the B O Railroad and charter to begin construction of a line connecting Maryland to Washington D.C. The south, which was mostly a society built on agriculture, was at a huge disadvantage when it came to railroads. Two thirds of all the railroads in the nation at the time were in the north. The southern states couldn t transport anything as easy as the north, and their income mostly relied on the exportation of their crops. Without this source of income, the Confederacy s economy was crippled. Arguably, railroads were the reason for the South s eventual defeat. According to Weitz (1991), a large scale survey carried out in the U.S.A found problems facing an individual who is HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS face discrimination largely down to ignorance from people who just simply do not understand how it can be spread or how the individual may have contacted the disease in the first place. Johnstone p.126 (2001) points out that within the U.K there has been a shift away from bigoted public attitudes but the stigma remains which is largely down to how the media portray the illness. Legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was introduced to eliminate discrimination towards disabled people in areas of employment, education, accessing facilities, goods or services and the managing, buying or renting of land or property. Parts of it became law in December 1996, and other parts have been introduced over time. For example, within organisations and businesses it became unlawful for employers to treat disabled people less favorably than other employees for a reason in relation to their disability. Reasonable adjustments have had to be made for any person with a disability, such as making changes in service provision or providing extra help since October 1999. They had a lot of followers and money and they were conservative in their views. Abortion, feminism, homosexuality and the separation of church and state were all fought over. Companies use a number of tactics to achieve their global expansion plans, including exporting goods, forming strategic partnerships, licensing, acquiring businesses and building new facilities in multiple countries. • 35. The Nature Of Violence In Grendel And Beowulf War is an inescapable pattern in history. The world is constantly in a state of war. In America, we see a war amongst ourselves with racism, discrimination, and hate crime. These wars seem meaningless, and reveal that humans have an ingrained yearning for violence. While reading the novels Beowulf, told from the perspective of a hero, and Grendel, told from the perspective of the monster, the innately violent nature of humans becomes apparent. Throughout Beowulf and Grendel, killing and war are common themes. Both novels feature violent scenes that show the cruel nature of humans. In Grendel, the humans attack because they feel unsure about Grendel s motives and uneasy by his scary appearance. When the humans went to war, they often expressed joy and would hold parties to congratulate themselves for killing others (Heaney 35). Throughout the novel, Beowulf doings [of murder] were praised over and over again (Heaney 57) by the citizens of his city. The positive response to these brutal acts demonstrates the human wanting for violence. History demonstrates mans violent tendencies. Jeffrey Goldstein, a psychologist at Temple University, says that We write and teach our history in terms of violent events, marking time by wars (Kohn 1). We measure our existence based on the violence we create. The climax of our histories is measured by the violence and wars we endure. The non war periods during history are selective times of reporting (Kohn 1), where we report violence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus it is said that The child is endowed with unknown powers which can guide us to a radiant future. (The Absorbent Mind ,P2) During the observation of children at Casa Dei Bambini, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that children prefer work to play. They were able to achieve a self integration through this work. She found that the aggressive and destructive children became calm and peaceful after working with the materials. She concluded that through work the child seemed to get fulfillment of some internal need which made him normalized. Montessori found out that independence is necessary to the child s normal development. The child uses his independence to listen to his inner guide for actions that can be useful to him and one who is served is actually limited in his independence. It is well said that we habitually serve children; and this is not only an act of servility towards them but it is dangerous, since it tends to suffocate their useful, spontaneous activity. (Course manual P.40). We can help the child attain independence by giving opportunity for him to work with the materials by himself, by directing him towards a given end to develop his will, by giving him constructive work to help him in developing discipline, by letting him know and have an understanding of what is good and bad and also giving him freedom to reveal himself completely by playing only passive role. Who was Cleopatra? Who is Cleopatra? Portrayed as both goddess and monster in her own lifetime, through the ages she has become both saint and sinner, heroine and victim, femme fatale and star crossed lover, politician and voluptuary, black and white. A protean figure, Cleopatra defies categorization. 1 So began Prudence J. Jones introduction in her edited text, Cleopatra: A Sourcebook. As such she molded herself to fit what would best procure her the much needed tactics to strengthen and maximize the power she inherited. As the world changed, so did their perception of Cleopatra; and, in turn every generation construed her differently: from evil seductress, ill fated star crossed lover to renewed empowering feminist icon. It can often look like a more severe case of Beau s Lines, and leaves the nails with a dull appearance. They will also have white streaks down the length of them and feel very brittle. There is no discomfort, pain, or swelling with this disease. A diagnosis is made through examination of the nail plate. The difference between onychomadesis and Beau s Line s is that there is a complete stoppage of nail production with onychomadesis. Onychomadesis may be a sign of a greater, underlying problem and is known to be linked with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease in children. Causes Onychomadesis occurs whenever the matrix is damaged and stops producing new cells. Localized trauma can cause single digit onychomadesis, meaning it only occurs on one nail. The memory itself is defined as the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information. Trauma is something else that can be attached to a memory and it is defined as a deeply distressing or disturbing experience. Memory plays a tremendous role in our lives as well as in our society. A memory can prevent us from making mistakes as well as it can haunt us to the point of breakdown. Are all memories worth to be reminded of? In Regeneration by Pat Barker as well as in The IMIGRANTS by W.G. Sebald we see a flow of narratives that underline traumatic memories. On this paper, we will focus our attention on Billy Prior, one of the characters in Regeneration, and Ambros Adelwarth of The Emigrants who are somehow fighting their memories.
