Analysis Of The Immigration Experience Of Calvin
SOC375 Final Essay

Course code: SOC375H5S

Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the immigration experience of Calvin who came
to Canada from Hong Kong in 1997 in order to avoid the negative repressions of the transition from
British to Chinese rule. Sociologists that have been read for this class claim or found that about
international migration is a combination of micro and macro as well as push and pull factors. For this
paper, the neoclassical model, as discussed by Massey et al, will be discussed as it focuses more on
the individual cost benefit analysis that compelled Calvin s family to come to Canada than ... Show

It is for this reason that the macro element of the neoclassical model is less useful but nevertheless
warrants mention. It involves finding equilibrium among different markets but Calvin s situation has
more to do with the particular situation in Hong Kong and the family s perceived advantages of
traveling to Canada. For instance, at the micro level, notes from Session 2 indicate that migration is
caused by rational cost/benefit analysis of individual actors and expected destination earnings
(observed earnins x probability of employment) → maximizing returns to human capital . While it
was not only employment option alone that motivated the decision; indeed, for Calvin the calculus
significantly involved education, but overall the decision had to do with perceived income. There was
less concern with loss of freedom, from what Calvin said in the interview, then there was with reduced
economic opportunities. It would be prudent at this point to investigate the broader social context of
migration from Hong Kong that influenced his migration/integration experience. According to Chu
(2013), In 1995, Fortune wrote a cover story for its international edition entitled The Death of Hong
Kong, claiming that the naked truth about Hong Kong s future can be summed up in two words: Its

Colonialism And Poverty
The foremost cause of global poverty is colonialism. After Christopher Columbus discovered the new
world in 1492, Europeans invaded the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Today, these places are some
of the most affected by poverty. The poverty persists because the peoples of these places were killed
and enslaved. Their land, natural resources, and way of life were stolen by the colonizers. The
colonizers forced the colonies to shift from subsistence farming to cash crops, obliterating the natural
economy. Since they only grew cash crops, they were forced to buy European goods. The economy of
the colonies became locked and they became completely dependent on the colonizing country. Soon,
the colonies found themselves in debt to their colonizers. What little money these colonies were able
to make went to repay the debt, instead of going toward the development of the colony. Additionally,
since they were indebted to them, their colonizers had control over their economy. The creditors took
full advantage of this and forced the colonies to adopt neoliberalism and privatize companies and
resources, which plunged even more people into absolute poverty. Even when many of these colonies
became their own independent countries, the documentary mentioned that the debt was transferred
over to the new country, even though this was a violation of international law. This same system
continues to this day and everyday more and more people find themselves in poverty.
In my opinion, it is

IMPLEMENTATION OF STUDENT LOAN ASSET BACKED SECURITIZATION IN
MALAYSIAN HIGHER EDUCATION. (A STUDY CONDUCTED AT MALAYSIAN ECONOMY

Malaysian Higher Education by introducing student loan securities as a type of asset backed
securitization. It will analyse and consider possible effects in order to relieve the pressure currently
imposed on the Government Budget. The aim of this research is to identify the outstanding systems

and commercial mortgages. This advanced financial techniques instruments had help to minimized the
risk and reduce part of the social problem. Though only spanning over sixth years, the securitization
process and its continuous innovation have contributed to resolving and risk managing problems in
Malaysia. SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY The scope of this research particularly
focuses on the student loans problem, which has not been involved yet in Malaysia. The work
considers the characteristics of National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), suggests a
structure for student loans securitization, and study the potential of the asset backed securitization
process in resolving the student loan problem. A limitation for this research is that we will able to
focus only on the United States and Chile student loans systems, as that process is not yet
implemented very broadly worldwide. The United States has implemented the federal Family
Education Loan Program (FFELP) to provide funds for students.

Damascene Augustine On Predestination
Art 1: Whether men are predestined by God?
From Damascene is questioning if God can truly determine what our destinations are. Damascene says
It must be borne in mind that God foreknows but does not predetermine everything, since He

predetermine what happens to us even if God knows what we are capable of, that knowledge cannot
be used to determine what our destinations is or what lies ahead.
Augustine believes the opposite of Damascene Augustine believes that predestination is something in

Cat In The Hat Movie And Book Comparison Essay
Throughout my years as a scholar I never quite enjoyed the process of summer work, especially the
summer reading aspect of it. There are multiple reasons on why I perhaps dread the work. For one, I
like to enjoy my summer without thoughts of school (though this was nearly impossible being a rising
senior), and I go through the process of forgetting school, by ignoring my summer work up till the
night before the first day of classes. However, this year I made an active decision to start my summer
reading early, and I m glad I did so. As I was scrolling through falconview in its last functional days I

The Dangers Of Mount Everest
Mount Everest is a destination that has been a struggle and an adventure to climb for thrill seekers. By
the middle of the year 2013, a total of nearly four thousand people had reached the mountain s
summit. Yet one day, Mount Everest may become a mountain of garbage. Climbers who climb Mount
Everest often leave behind their unneeded items, such as food containers, empty oxygen canisters, and
even human waste. All the debris left on the mountain stays frozen in place, due to the extreme
weather conditions on Mount Everest. One day, Mount Everest may be fully polluted with climbers
litter, where climbers must scale Mount Everest while stepping in garbage, instead of snow.
On May 29, 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to reach the
summit of Mount Everest. Hillary was very humble and did not consider this feat his most important
achievement. Sir Edmund Hillary was deeply concerned about the environment and cared for the
future of Mount Everest. For example, Hillary was also deeply concerned about the environment. He
helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. He also demanded that mountain climbers clean up
the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest materials like used oxygen bottles, which
climbers would discard because of their weight ( Source #1: The World s Highest Mountain

can infer that Sir Edmund Hillary would not

The Effects Of Reporting The Financial Crisis On Subprime...
Different levels of analyses adopted in this research shed a new perceptive light on the reality of
reporting the financial crisis in 2007 in which business journalists were troubled by a plethora of
slanted opinions that never coalesced into a coherent examination of the problem. Comment
discrepancies and all kinds of implausible interpretations from high ranking financial pundits might
partially explain why despite a large number of business stories issued during the crisis the media
remained baffled and uncertain about the length and depth of the downturn. However, that financial
journalism put aside investigative reporting, as well as the fact that it could not adopt a critical view
about the functioning of the system and identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1999 to 2004, more than two dozens of US states ranging from North Carolina to South

lower interest rate threshold requiring credit disclosure (Starkman, 2014:202) in an effort to respond
ferociously to lawless lending practices at Wall Street and hold Wall Street originators of MBS to

Inhumane Living Conditions Of Broiler Chickens
Purpose Statement
The purpose of this paper is to explain the cruel inhuman way broiler chickens are treated. We will
explore living conditions, Health issues, and diets. We also show the measures that need to be done to
stop the mistreatment of these animals.
Living conditions
Broiler chickens are restricted to massive windowless sheds that holds tens of thousands of chickens
each. As G.KNOWLES has noted Throughout the world the majority of broilers are reared using very
similar, modem, intensive systems of production where birds are confined for their lifetime within
high density housing and reared from hatch to slaughter weight within approximately 40 days. The
detrimental effect of higher stocking densities may be more complex, reflecting not only a lack of
room available for birds to move and exercise, but also the extra environmental loading from ... Show

Spontaneous Human Combustion
Do You think it s possible for a human being to all of a sudden ignite into a 3000 degree blaze? Well,
there are multiple accounts of SHC that might prove it exists.
SHC (Spontaneous Human Combustion) is when a human inexplicably bursts into a 3000 degree
flame. Also, the strange part to the phenomenon, is that only the body burns, not the house or anything
in it! Adding on to that, a usual house ignites and burns down completely from a 1500 degree flame.
The most common things to find in a SHC case is the body being completely, or almost reduced to
ashes. There will usually be a sweet, smoky smell in the room after the incident. In addition, there are
a lot of cases that had alcoholics burst into flames.
SHC is a real phenomenon that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to (History.com), Because the human body is composed mostly of water and it s only
highly flammable properties are fat tissue and methane gas, the possibility of SHC being an actual
phenomenon seems remote. Many scientists dismiss the theory, arguing that an undetected flame
source such as a match or cigarette is the real culprit in suspected cases. Typically, deceased victims
are found close to a fire source, and evidence suggests that many of them accidentally set themselves
on fire while smoking or trying to light a flame. (History.com, is SHC real?)
This evidence might have some reasonable points, but the wick effect seems like a more reasonable
explanation for SHC. The wick effect is the name given to the partial destruction of a human body by
fire, when the clothing of the victim soaks up melted human fat and acts like the wick of a candle. The
wick effect is a phenomenon that is proven to occur under certain conditions, and has been thoroughly
observed. It is one commonly offered explanation for the alleged phenomenon of SHC (Wikipedia,The
wick effect)
The wick effect has been one of the main, and more plausible theories, since all of the information
about the wick effect is a possible effect from SHC

What Is The Role Of Sports In The 80 s
The origins of the Cold War from 1917 1945, the United States was faced with tough times during the
20 s and 30 s. The Great Depression led Americans to question capitalism due to Russia and their
communist beliefs doing well, even though Americans had no true context of what was really going on
in. This helped enforce the Soviets goal of international prestige. The Soviet sports system introduced

basketball. The first game they covered was the 1979 NCAA championship game between Indiana

transition of the old school style of play of slowing the tempo and passing to find the open layup. For
example, the dunk contest helps with the flashy play with the dunks of Dominique Wilkins, Spud

the 21st century theme of making money. The commercial of Air Jordan was a success, in which leads
the development of the sport of having the best athletes go on TV and sell products. Also, athletes are
now looked upon as role models to their fans, which is another development of sports over the years.

Drones overall will be more impactful than I think people will recognize, in positive ways to help

name of a drone is unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV for short. Abraham Karem was the person who
came up with the idea for the reaper, the drones purpose was for fighting wars oversea and keeping
civilians safe(Lawrence 2). Some type of drones is the reaper, predator, quadcopter, delivery drones,

Ford Motor Company is the second largest automobile company in the world. Ford s main focus is
automobiles; however, they also operate in Ford Credit and Hertz Corporation. Ford also has

differences between U.S, and Japanese accounting practices as well as the management accounting

the organizational context and the goals that are to be achieved.
United States companies such as Ford Motor Company tend to put more emphasis on manufacturing

the success and innovation of the products that are introduced. The accounting system used by the two

Quality Issues in Project Management
QUALITY ISSUES IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. Introduction
There are a number of issues surrounding the general area of quality in project management. You will
need to be aware of some of the requirements of PRINCE (or PRINCE2) as well as the more general
aspects of the ISO 9000 and 14000 series.
2. Quality requirements as part of PRINCE
PRINCE2 (Projects in Controlled Environments) was revised from PRINCE in 1996 and is the
accepted standard for the control of projects in the computing area of the public sector. It is also
widely used outside this sector as a way of formalising project control procedures.
It lays down 8 key processes concerning (content generally obvious):

2. Planning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We should also be aware of the ISO 14000 which covers legislative requirements with respect to
environmental impacts. This is relevant, in parts, to projects and their impacts.
4. The Prince2 Quality Plan/Manual:
The quality plan needs to cover in detail several key aspects of project control:
How quality criteria will be set?
What measures are to be taken to prevent the occurrence of faults or variances?
What will be done to detect and correct any faults/variances that do occur?
What tests/procedures will be used to demonstrate that quality criteria are being met?
What review and follow up procedures will be used?
Who will perform the quality control work?
What documentation will be produced by the process?
5. The Prince2 Quality Review and Log:
This might be the most important part of quality control in your PRINCE2 project. The aim is to find
any errors, deviations from standards or omissions in the task or stage once it is claimed to be finished
or at any other agreed point.
It is a face to face meeting (of no more than two hours) which should allow early error or variance
trapping. It consists of preparation, review and follow up procedures.
A quality log is kept of all invitations, attendees, results, corrective actions and sign offs. This log can
then be inspected as an audit trail by the user/stakeholder/client or by any independent quality
assurance agency in event of any disputes.

Evaluate The Importance Of Numeracy
The development and proper application of an individuals mathematical ability is a complex process
that is comprised of many significant interrelating concepts that are demonstrated through the
Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority s (ACARA) and its many strands and sub

underpins many concepts including that of Number sense which is therefore also fundamental to not
only the development of mathematic, but also the success of the implementation of the Australian

Social Construction Of Gender By Lorber
Although still problematic, gender roles constructed by society and cultures have progressed
throughout the years, not as much as hoped but in small ways. The social and cultural construction of
gender in definition means the construction of gender roles created by others that determine their
behaviors and develop standards based on their sex. In the article Social Construction of Gender by
Lorber the author demonstrates the social and cultural construction of gender stating, Yet in Western
societies, we see two discrete sexes and two distinguishable genders because our society is built on
two classes of people, women and men . Once the gender category is given the attributes of the person

It could be seen in many perspectives how the social and cultural construction of gender are being
developed. Women and men are often being told what they should or shouldn t do. Being molded into
something society wants and favors. It s all developed through interactions with the media, in school,
with family, whether it s direct or not, it creates a huge impact on women. In the reading, it states For
men in Western societies, physical competence is an important marker of masculinity (Lorber, 12 ).
This goes to show how in different cultural settings there are expectations that mark the gender you
identify with. Culture makes a huge impact on the way a person looks or speaks. Being a strong
person could be known as attractive in a certain era or area of the world, however, being extremely
pale could be an attractive feature to have. This process interestingly affects the person and makes
them do exactly what society wants them to do. Whether it s an unconscious or a conscious decision.

wants it to be. She demonstrates a perfect example of how women could easily be shaped and

What does my Christian faith mean to me? Faith is a gift from God. Faith means I won t go to hell

Willy Loman In Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller
Willy Loman is the main character, who struggles to differentiate between idealism and reality
situations among the events occurred through his time as a salesman. Throughout the play Death of a
Salesman, Miller portraits Willy as a well known salesman in Boston as the New England man yet, in
reality Willy appears to be merely a salesman in a firm. The play suggests Mr. Loman desires his
oldest son, Biff Loman, to become an ideal successful salesman, He could be big in no time yet Biff is
a farm worker traveling to harvest with low pay (Miller Act Ⅰ:1559). Willy persona interacts with Biff
intense arguments about Biff s life choices, though Willy contains a deep affection for Biff and wants
the best for him. Linda Loman is the ideal 1940s housewife, she loves her husband and takes care of
him. Mrs. Loman is constantly worried about her husband and tries to maintain the family together to
create the ideal household. She attempts to encourage Biff to reconnect with Willy by showing his

encounter between them (Miller Act Ⅱ:1588). Linda s personality of kindness shows the strong
feminism of a mother to keep their family together, although her family is not as perfect as she
believes herself. Biff Loman is the oldest son of Willy and Linda Loman, farm worker, and the realist

The Social Problem Of Voting Rights
The social problem: What is the social problem you will examine?
The research will examine voting rights in relation to voting right inequalities and the society s effort
to have an all minority groups included in the civic process. The research will look into several
historical factors that contributed to voting rights inequalities and how the society has evolved to solve
issues related to the right to vote.
History of problem and policy: when did the problem first emerge historically? What historical eras
will you examine?
Initially, the United States constitutions had no provisions that defined who was eligible to vote. There
were no national standards for voting rights and the criteria for eligibility was determined by
individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main contemporary federal policy that will be examined is the amendments that have been made
to the voting acts which empowered states to decide and make judgments on who is eligible to vote.
The research will look into how this undermines the rights to vote in our modern society. In particular,
the research will focus on the amendment made on the 1965 voting rights act that internationally
defined eligibility of a voter with the inclusion of minority groups. A ruling made by the Supreme
Court in 2013 gave power to states to determine and register eligible voters. This in my opinion, and
from data collected from different articles gave states a chance to create more restrictions on voting
rights. Social welfare associations think that beneficiaries of such laws have created a status quo
which results in discrimination. The research will look at the impact of such contemporary policies
and examine its effect on voting rights and societal perception of inequality.
Human rights and justice oriented framework. How does the social problem and social policy response
reflect social, economic and environmental justice and human rights concerns?
The introduction of the voting right act into the American constitution represented justice for all
American citizens, created equality irrespective of race, gender or social status and eliminated
unnecessary impediments that prevented individuals from voting. The right to vote evolved from a
privilege to an

Empress Cixi Research Paper
The effects that the Xinhai revolution had on the Chinese government system and the social hierarchy
of the time renders the old political adage, Despite the best laid plans, not all desires are realised false,
I will be mainly focusing on the motives and actions Sun Yat sen and his followers and the patterns of
change in the chinese government and social hieracy of the time. The two main goals of the revolution
were for China to become a republic where the people decided their leader and to have a social
hierarchy both of these goals were met. It was also very successful in the sense of the majority of the
Chinese citizens getting what they desired by over throwing the Qing Empire and turning China into a

Many drastic changes to the Chinese social hierarchy were also evident as a result as the Xinhai
revolution. People were considered more equal in all aspects of life. Such as social status, people
could eat what they wanted; dress how they pleased and your class did not necessarily determine your
occupation. Before the revolution your class in the social hierarchy determined what you where
allowed to wear out in public and what you could eat (Woollacott, 2012). Your class also determined
your occupation therefore peasants would have jobs like farming and most upper class would not even
need a job. (Randolph, 4, 2012). The revolution also brought more social equality to china in the sense
off al class having a say in who runs their country. Before the revolution the very high upper class and
the royalty were the only ones with a real say (Randolph, 4, 2012). The empires / who would run
China would be chosen by other royalty and the highest upper class citizens (Randolph, 4, 2012).
After the revolution all people in China would have a say whom would be president. All people from
concubines to royalty had the same vote and if a person had the majority of votes they would rule
china until the next election (People s Daily, September 22, 2011). The pattern of change in social
hierarchy of China and how people were considered to have equal rights is another way the revolution

Stylistic Devices In The Opening Ceremony
Another tendency noted in the British newspapers is the frequent use of stylistic devices such as
oxymoron, antithesis or paradoxes, in order to describe the opening ceremony and Britain. Most of
them were retrieved from The Guardian, but they were present in all the newspapers:
The latter sentence suggests that the opening ceremony, and by extension the country itself, tends to
be described as a contradictory entity. This tendency is confirmed above all in The Guardian and in
The Times. As far as the adjectives are concerned, one can see that The Guardian is more objective
than The Independent, which only showcased Britain and the opening ceremony under a very positive
light. However, a majority of positive qualifications were used, and Matthew Caines, from The
Guardian, pointed out that the newspaper was pretty much all out of adjectives to describe the
spectacle.

Whereas the majority of the audience praised the opening ceremony, some did not agree with the
general burst of enthusiasm. As mentioned in a previous section, one recurrent negative adjective that
was used in all of the newspapers that have been analysed is the word leftie .
That controversy ensued from a series of tweets posted by the British Conservative Member of
Parliament for Cannock Chase, Aidan Burley, on July 27, 2012, during the London 2012 opening
ceremony. The MP fiercely denounced the social and multicultural aspect depicted in the spectacle,
labelling it leftie, multicultural crap . The actual tweets were:

The And Exchange Board Of India
INTRODUCTION
The neo economic liberalization undertaken in India in the 1990s, lead to a new and improved market
structure. It redefined the roles of the various agents in the economy and founded a system based on
the market forces. It was in the backdrop of these changes that there was a marked shift in the role of
the government from an agent that ran businesses to an agent that primarily undertook regulation and
supervision to ensure optimization in the running of the businesses in India. This shift in the role of
the state ushered in an era of regulators . The regulators embodied the expertise, domain knowledge
and the impartiality that the government influenced by the political party in power could not

The Intermediaries Regulations 2008, were notified in May 2008 and brought about substantial
changes in the treatment and compliance requirements of intermediaries in the Indian securities

This paper seeks to analysis the functioning of the aforesaid regulations in the context of the Indian
securities market. It begins with a brief introduction on the meaning and definition of intermediaries
along with the circumstances in which the Intermediaries Regulations, 2008 were enforced. The next
section delves deeply into the various provisions of the regulations. The concluding section deals with

Before any progress can be made in determining the exact regulatory structure envisaged by the
Intermediaries Regulations of 2008, it is important to discuss the scope of the term intermediaries and
the various agents of the market that it seeks to incorporate within its ambit.
In common parlance, intermediaries can be understood as middlemen. With the expanding markets

Essay Network Topologies
Network Topologies Network topologies are an important part of the network. Without the proper
topology, the network may not meet the needs of the organization. The layout of a network is referred
to as the topology. How nodes in a network are connected to each other and communicate is
determined by the topology. There are three basic topologies with several typical variations, or
combinations. A description of four topologies follows. Mesh Topology Mesh topology is the first
topology discussed. In a mesh topology, the devices are connected with many redundant
interconnections between nodes. Each device in the mesh topology is connected to every other device

Data is transferred quickly without congestion. All computers have the same amount of access to the
rest of the network. Disadvantages to the ring topology are, failure of the network if one computer
fails, isolating problems with the network is difficult, and the addition or subtraction of computers to
or from the network causes disruption in the network. Star Topology The star topology consists of one
central switch, hub, or router to transmit messages. The computer will send a signal to the hub, which
receives and then retransmits the message to all the other computers or devices attached to the hub.
Good performance is an advantage to using the star topology. Centralization of resources, ease of set
up and expansion, and the network still performs properly when one computer fails are all advantages
to the star topology. The expense of installation, extra hardware required, and if the central hub fails
the entire system fails, are disadvantages to the star topology. Ethernet Ethernet is a network
technology for local area networks (LAN). Ethernet uses a bus or star topology and supports data
transfer rates of 10Mbps. (Webopedia, 2007). Ethernet is the most popular architecture used today.
One advantage to Ethernet is the ease of installation. Ethernet costs less than other network
architectures and is easy to use. Ethernet supports many different kinds of networking media, which

Causes And Policies Of Financial Crises
Causes and Policies in Financial Crises
Financial Crises are well known phenomena in economics history; however, after the Great Financial
Crisis of 2007 2009 the role that Central Banks play in order to prevent Financial Crises has been
questioned. To begin with, it is important to understand that crises consist of highly complex macro
financial linkages that reflect the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy
(Claessens 2012). Additionally, it is important to highlight two different financial crises groups:
Currency and sudden stop crisis, which have strictly quantitative definitions; and debt and banking
crises that depend on qualitative and judgmental analysis (Claessens 2012). Nevertheless, the
interconnectivity of the financial sector demonstrates that major crises are a blend of the different
types; thus, the effects on real economy are larger (Laevene 2008). In consequence, governments and
central banks have the responsibility to develop monetary and macro prudential policies to
appropriately supervise and regulate the financial industry (Norgren 2010). However, central banks
have failed to appropriately understand the main symptoms that precede financial crises: credit booms
and asset booms (Bijapur 2015). In fact, it is essential to comprehend these symptoms in order to
develop policies that strengthen the fragility of the financial industry; hence, upholding stable growth
and inflation.
The last major financial crises demonstrate that the

his messaging idea to come to life Samuel would need help and money. As a way to make money he

Samuel could finally focus on his invention of the telegraph. Finally in the fall of 1837, Samuel

work and dedication, Samuel and his partners delivered a message containing the phrase What hath

in Baltimore. (38).During this same time, Samuel had also started coming up with a code which would
be used to send messages across the telegraph; this would later be named after him as Morse code.

Similarities Between Thomas Jefferson And Slavery
Thomas Jefferson and Slavery
Thomas Jefferson had written in the Declaration of Independence that, all men are created equal. Also,
every man has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In addition, several enlightenment
thinkers in Europe believed in natural law, human progress, and a government made for the people, all
of whom inspired Jefferson. Despite this, in 1716, 500,000 African slaves were kept in the Americas,
and Jefferson was one of these people that owned slaves.
Slavery was legal in all states until 1777, when Vermont outlawed it. Six years later, Massachusetts
followed. New Hampshire removed it from their constitutional interpretation. After this, Pennsylvania,
Rhode Island, and Connecticut adopted gradual emancipation programs, meaning they gradually freed
slaves, ending it in these states. Finally, New York and New Jersey freed their slaves, leaving the
southern colonies remaining. While some people did free their slaves in the south, many did not. This
is because they heavily relied on them, not just for work, but for their status. It was woven in their
lives to the point where it was a representation of the slave owner s wealth. Jefferson hated slavery, to
the point where he made a plan to remove it in Virginia, which ended up failing. He was in a large
amount of debt at the time, so he didn t believe he could free his own slaves while he was still alive.
Thomas Jefferson had a close relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings, which was very
controversial and considered shameful at the time. James Callender said that Jefferson had fathered
several children from one of his slaves, which didn t get credit until Fawn M. Brodie published a book
in 1974 called, Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History, where she portrayed the relationship between
Jefferson and Hemings. While most versions showed their relationship as shameful and scandalous,
she made it look like they were a happy couple, as if he fell in love with her and married when she
was 14. Others do not think this way because Jefferson was very protective of his social life, going to
extreme measures to hide it. This makes some people believe he was trying to hide something. Some
are not sure if authorities would

A single thread cannot become a cord, and a single tree does not make a forest. This Cheng Yu is
about cooperation and being part of a larger whole. Its roots stem from Confucian beliefs of organized
society through togetherness. This is in stark contrast to the emphasis placed on individualism in some
Western countries.
Introducton
Tearroir is a global tea brand that sources premium loose leaf tea from 7 countries. The need to
overcome cross cultural difference in communication is a major issue in achieving affective
knowledge transfer and performance in today s globalised world (Holden, Von Kortzfleisch, 2004,
pp127). Knowledge evolves as both organisations and individuals adapt to internal/external
environments, it is one of the most important assets for any organisation (Rivera Vazquez, Ortiz
Fournier, Flores, 2009, pp257). Cross cultural differences are never more of a barrier to successful
communication inl business than in the case of verbal and non verbal communication (McShane,
Olekalns, Travaglione, 2010, pp367). Tearroir s mission statement is the best teas on Earth for this to
be realised we need to be effective communicators with people from varied cultural backgrounds.
Cross cultural communication issues often occur because people react to situations based on beliefs,
values and expectations of their own culture, the examples of face and guan xi will be discussed in the

Literary Theme Of Self Identity Essay
In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee writes, before I can live with other folks I ve got to live
with myself. The one thing that doesn t abide by majority rule is a person s conscience (Lee, 108). As
displayed in To Kill a Mockingbird and many others, the literary theme of self identity coupled with
coming of age has been a long running one in the history of literature. Certainly, we find this theme in
novels such as Between Tides and Shadows of Your Black Memory, respectively. The development of
character and self identity is vital in the analysis of each protagonist. Between Tides follows Pierre
Landu, a black Catholic Priest and revolutionist, on a journey to right his wrongs through rigorous self
examination. Pierre, having rejected his African ancestry during adolescence, in attempts to integrate
into the Catholic Priesthood finds himself dissatisfied with the priesthood during his adult years. In
attempts to reconnect to his cultural roots he joins a revolutionist movement to deconstruct
colonialism in his African nation. Through growth and the tumultuous discovery of self, Pierre
recognizes that there is no easy resolution in rediscovering himself or Africa. Similarly, Shadows of
Your Black Memory, is largely about a young boy s journey into adulthood. Shadows is retold through
the memory of the adult version of the young boy. Unlike Pierre, the Narrator, who is never a given a
name is strikingly aware of the cultural and social parallels in which his

him with suspicion. With his villainy stemming from his rejection from society, it becomes clear why
he is treated as an outcast. He is degraded to just Don Pedro s illegitimate half brother, sometimes
referred to simply as the Bastard. He is a clear stand out from the rest of the characters due to his
melancholy and pessimism, since as characters in a comedy are supposed to be surrounded by a joyful
atmosphere, he is the only character that brings darkness and sadness to the play. Most of the other
characters in the play prove outgoing, talkative, or at least social, and while such chattiness leads to
problems when other characters overhear secrets, Don John s silence emerges as more disagreeable
than willingness to divulge secrets. When Don John returns to Messina with his brother, the governor
Leonato addresses him with immense hesitation: If you swear, my Lord, you shall not be forsworn
Essentially, Leonato questions Don John s declaration of loyalty to Don Pedro, and although Leonato
covers his harsh greeting with a welcoming of Don John, his doubts remain dormant under the surface
of his kind words. Don John notices the undercurrent of distrust directed towards him and responds, I
am not of many words, but I thank you Through his simple statement, Don John acknowledges society
s perpetual distrust of him and provides the audience with key insight into his character. In a powerful

* Marriage between Jews and Germans forbidden.
* Full Jews deprived of German citizenship.
* Full Jews defined as those having three Jewish grandparents.
Some Jews did fight back at this though. Groups of Jewish men who went to war told people of the
honourable role they played in the 1914 18 struggles. Handbills were handed out which said that
12,000 Jew s died fighting for the nation. But these little protests compared as nothing to what the
Germans did. They used propaganda to show that Jews were enemies of the Germans and were
unworthy to be called German citizens.
There was a story that a Jew had killed a German in Paris, the Nazi s started the night which was
known as Kristallnacht. On the 9th of November over 100 Jews died in a series of violent attacks.
There were broken windows, smashed homes looted shops and attacked

Rocket Boster Fields Case Study
Rocket Booster Stadium with Turf Field Provides Safer Conditions and Maintenance Cost. According
to a recent study the surface hardness of a Natural grass field and a synthetic turf field shows that
synthetic fields had almost 2x less than natural grass, which would make synthetic safer after those
rainy days (Daviscourt 1). Rocket Booster Stadium should upgrade to a turf field because it is good
economically in the long run. Also Rocket Booster Stadium should upgrade to a turf field because
conditions are safer and more playable. Even though the cost of turf fields are out of the roof, Rocket
Booster Stadium should upgrade to a turf field because of the new technology used in turf fields
results in a safer playing surface, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, The average costs of installation and maintenance for natural grass fields were $325,000
and $27,000 while the average costs of installation, maintenance, and resurfacing for synthetic infill
fields were $1,212,000, $7,000, and $377,000. With the average cost of a single year of maintenance
for five natural grass fields was $35,000 while the average cost of a single year of maintenance for the
10 synthetic infill fields was $7,000 (Daviscourt 1). In other words, even though turf fields are costly
at the beginning, for 10 synthetic fields it is 5 times less the cost than 5 grass fields. This is important
because if Rocket booster stadium upgrades the school would be saving $28,000 in savings on field
maintenance annually. L.B. Daviscourt goes on to say that The average cost of a 20 year maintenance
cycle for the five natural grass fields was $903,000. The average cost of a 20 year maintenance cycle
for the 10 synthetic infill fields was $1,952,000. The average on synthetic infill fields was two times
as much the average for natural grass fields (Daviscourt 3). This shows that the original cost to the
amount of players is less for turf fields since there is many more activities on turf fields. Therefore
Rocket Booster Stadium should upgrade to turf because field management is 5x cheaper, fields are
weather resistant, and have safer

Indian Premier League
Project IPL
A revolution in Indian Sports Entertainment
27 May 2008
Indian Premier League (IPL)
A revolution in Indian sports and entertainment
Over 200 million Indian viewers, 10 million international viewers, 4 million live spectators: the Indian
Premier League (IPL) is a sports and entertainment revolution in the making, surpassing all records of
viewership on ground and on media. Advertising revenue and ticket sales have exceeded all
expectations, making IPL highly profitable for the organisers, broadcasters and successful team
owners. Zealous fan following even hostility for visiting teams shows local loyalties are building up
faster than anyone expected. As we enter the last phase of the first edition of IPL, numerous new ...

Ad rates for 10 second spots, which were Rs200,000 at the start of the tournament have climbed
rapidly, to Rs500,000 now, and look set to rise further, to Rs1m for the final. (For comparison, SET
charged Rs800,000 per 10second ad spot for the T20 World Cup final between India and Pakistan.)
Sony Set Max s revenue market share has reportedly gone up from the pre IPL 5.7% to 28.8% now. Its
share of prime time is now at 29%, which is higher than the cumulative market share of the top nine
Hindi general entertainment channels. IPL has also expanded the demographics of cricket viewership
by bringing more women to cricket s fan base, making it more lucrative for advertisers. IPL s ad
revenues will be more than 7% of total TV advertising in India We reckon Sony will gross about
Rs6.5bn in advertising revenues from the next year. That would be 7% of the Indian advertising
industry s estimated TV revenues of Rs90bn in 2008. Collateral damage: Bollywood and other
channels take a hit The runaway success of IPL has hit other mainstream entertainment media.
Estimating the extent of their losses is tricky, but consider the anecdotal evidence: multiplexes have
reported 10 30% declines in ticket sales; Bollywood movies leading producers like Yash Raj, Devgan
Productions and Rakesh Roshan got poor openings despite heavy marketing; and television prime time
has taken a significant hit,

A Research Study On Business Education
Running head: LEVERAGING RESEARCH TOENHANCE UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS
EDUCATION 1
Leveraging research to enhance undergraduate business education
Luke Maass
Northwest Missouri State University
Authors note
This paper was prepared for
Student involvement in research activities in U.S. business schools used to be primarily offered to
graduate students. However, many universities are now offering undergraduate research opportunities
that can provide students with a deep understanding of the academic environment. Research allows the
exploration and questioning of significant issues in today s world.
This type of learning can provide students with more understanding than can be taught in a classroom
or read in a textbook. Research challenges students to engage in the process of identifying and
evaluating major issues and trends impacting businesses and society. Students also explore potential
business implications that can drive innovation (The Boyer Commission). One goal of business school
research is to enhance the prestige of the business school where the research is done. There is evidence
that research does achieve that goal, as research has, historically, been regarded as the primary
determinant of a school s prestige (Armstrong, 1995: 103). For example, Business Week magazine has
added a research influence measure in its ratings of business schools. If a school scores highly on that
measure, it enhances the overall prestige ranking.

Ohio Senator Reflection
The Government class that I partake in is writing to an Ohio Senator and I hope that your response can
be casual and informative. I would also like to ask for some of your personal memorabilia, anything
from a signed picture to a bumper sticker, something that we can proudly hang in our classroom. Your
name jumped out at me especially; actually it was the R next to your name that especially intrigued
my curiosity. As a proud Republican myself, I wanted to know the response you get when you answer
the question of your political affiliation. What is the best and worst reaction you received when you
revealed to someone that you were a Republican? While visiting your website,

During this experiment/lab we had to undergo a process that would create our own calorimeter and

thermometer and for the air to escape. The thermometer came through the top and the cup covered of
the beaker at the bottom. We had the option to pick a Styrofoam cup or a Soda Can. Our group picked
the Styrofoam. So we covered the cup in aluminum inside and out. When combusting the chip we
determined that the total energy captured increased.

Larynx Essay
Speech production is essentially the structures along the vocal tract that work together to modify the
airstream and this can be greatly affected when someone has cancer of the Larynx. Laryngeal cancer,
also known as Laryngeal Carcinoma, develops as a result of malignant cells that form in the tissues of
the larynx and can be potentially life threatening. The larynx is a frequent site for cancer and accounts
for 3 5% of human cancers. The larynx is critical for speech so anything that affects the larynx will
disrupt the natural flow of vocal communication, especially something as extreme as Laryngeal
Cancer. A person who undergoes procedures and surgeries to rid these cancerous cells can often result
in a loss of speech. However, a person may have the opportunity to continue living as normally as
possible with the use of Esophageal Speech. Although a person has to adapt to this new method of
speaking, it allows them to still express themselves with their voice, even after surgery.
The Larynx is located at the trachea and at the base of the tongue, consisting of three main parts
known as Supraglottis, Glottis and Subglottis which all work together to create a properly working
Larynx. It separates humans from other mammals because it is responsible for voice resonance and
spoken language. The larynx is essential for many other bodily functions including swallowing,
phonation and respiration. However, the larynx can be broken down into two primary functions

Falling Back By Jamie Fader
Jamie Fader s book Falling Back which was published in 2013, is based on ethnographic research over
three years, from 2004 to 2007, of black and latino males on the edge of adulthood and that were
incarcerated at the Mountain Ridge Academy reform school located in a rural area: within a dense
forest in western Pennsylvania, is Mountian Ridge Academy ... ninety acre campus contains eight
dormitories, each of which houses thirty two young men between ages 14 to 18 (p.1). The criminal
thinking approach was intended to help young people identify the patterns that had led them to
delinquency and replace it with corrective and prosocial thoughts. These young boys had been
involved in drug offenses and violence within their suburban communities and were now in the
process of behavioral change in order to help them reflect and be able to make better decisions which
would lead them to a better life. Fader observed these juveniles as they transitioned back to urban
Philadelphia where they would resume their daily lives and also struggle to adopt adult masculine
roles: After these young men demonstrated sufficient change to earn their release or, more typically
staff members determined that they had changed as much as they were likely to, they faced a new
transition as they returned to their homes and communities in Philadelphia (p.3). Fader s ethnographic
approach allowed her to portray the complexities of decision making as these young men wanted to
fall back . This meant to

Saint Patrick and St Patrick s Day
Chipper Howe 4/9/14
Religion 9 H 4
Fourth Quarter Report
Part 1: The process of Canonization is the process that a person must go through to become a saint.
This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the
process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a
very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition
to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and
decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of
theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are
martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of
the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long
time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles credited to his or her name. If
they only have one miracle they will be named blessed, just like Blessed Edmund Rice. When they get
two miracles and they will in fact become a recognized saint in the Catholic Church.
Part 2: St. Patrick Saint Patrick is one of the most well known saints in the Catholic Church. Along
with the two saints, St. Nicholas and St. Valentine, St. Patrick has a worldwide day that shares the love
for them, St. Patrick s

How Does A Horse See The World, By Herschel B.
With the advent of Modernism in the early twentieth century, many artists and critics began making
theoretical pronouncements about their works and ideas. Using three different artists and their writings
from the Theories of Modern Art book by Herschel B. Chipp. I will study the artist s works and ideas
in relation to the role of art in their society, the role of traditional practices in art, their view on nature
versus reality, and their view on the relationship between art and truth. The three artists and works will
be the Fauvist Henri Matisse s Notes of a Painter, the German Expressionist Franz Marc s How Does a
Horse See the World? as well as Aphorism, and lastly the Dadaist Jean Arp s, Abstract Art, Concrete
Art. This section ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Truth is always on the move. It is always somewhere, but never in the foreground, never on the
surface. Unlike Matisse, who talked about truths as challenges, Marc seems a little lost about truth in
artwork or maybe that was simply how he felt at that time. Marc s words conveyed an elusive quality
to truth, that they cannot be seen or touched so easily as Matisse implied. I think this elusiveness is
best symbolized in his Stables. In Abstract Art, Concrete Art, page 390, Jean Arp expressed his idea of
a main truth, that artists do not want to copy nature but produce it. That they wish to create their own
art directly and not have to interpret it from nature. As I was reading it felt like Arp had a good
understanding of what he believed to be the important truths in art and he continually strived to create
artwork that conveyed those ideas, as can be seen in his Birds in an

  • 2. Analysis Of The Immigration Experience Of Calvin SOC375 Final Essay Name: Daniel Ka Lun Lam Student number: 998455657 Course code: SOC375H5S Due date: 10 08 2015 Introduction The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of the immigration experience of Calvin who came to Canada from Hong Kong in 1997 in order to avoid the negative repressions of the transition from British to Chinese rule. Sociologists that have been read for this class claim or found that about international migration is a combination of micro and macro as well as push and pull factors. For this paper, the neoclassical model, as discussed by Massey et al, will be discussed as it focuses more on the individual cost benefit analysis that compelled Calvin s family to come to Canada than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is for this reason that the macro element of the neoclassical model is less useful but nevertheless warrants mention. It involves finding equilibrium among different markets but Calvin s situation has more to do with the particular situation in Hong Kong and the family s perceived advantages of traveling to Canada. For instance, at the micro level, notes from Session 2 indicate that migration is caused by rational cost/benefit analysis of individual actors and expected destination earnings (observed earnins x probability of employment) → maximizing returns to human capital . While it was not only employment option alone that motivated the decision; indeed, for Calvin the calculus significantly involved education, but overall the decision had to do with perceived income. There was less concern with loss of freedom, from what Calvin said in the interview, then there was with reduced economic opportunities. It would be prudent at this point to investigate the broader social context of migration from Hong Kong that influenced his migration/integration experience. According to Chu (2013), In 1995, Fortune wrote a cover story for its international edition entitled The Death of Hong Kong, claiming that the naked truth about Hong Kong s future can be summed up in two words: Its over. ... • 3. Colonialism And Poverty The foremost cause of global poverty is colonialism. After Christopher Columbus discovered the new world in 1492, Europeans invaded the Americas, Africa, and East Asia. Today, these places are some of the most affected by poverty. The poverty persists because the peoples of these places were killed and enslaved. Their land, natural resources, and way of life were stolen by the colonizers. The colonizers forced the colonies to shift from subsistence farming to cash crops, obliterating the natural economy. Since they only grew cash crops, they were forced to buy European goods. The economy of the colonies became locked and they became completely dependent on the colonizing country. Soon, the colonies found themselves in debt to their colonizers. What little money these colonies were able to make went to repay the debt, instead of going toward the development of the colony. Additionally, since they were indebted to them, their colonizers had control over their economy. The creditors took full advantage of this and forced the colonies to adopt neoliberalism and privatize companies and resources, which plunged even more people into absolute poverty. Even when many of these colonies became their own independent countries, the documentary mentioned that the debt was transferred over to the new country, even though this was a violation of international law. This same system continues to this day and everyday more and more people find themselves in poverty. In my opinion, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Cat In The Hat Movie And Book Comparison Essay Throughout my years as a scholar I never quite enjoyed the process of summer work, especially the summer reading aspect of it. There are multiple reasons on why I perhaps dread the work. For one, I like to enjoy my summer without thoughts of school (though this was nearly impossible being a rising senior), and I go through the process of forgetting school, by ignoring my summer work up till the night before the first day of classes. However, this year I made an active decision to start my summer reading early, and I m glad I did so. This book explains how a poor baseball team went from a winning percentage under .500 to almost beating the richest team in baseball. The book is most accurately depicted by what the back of the cover articulates, MoneyBall is The most influential book on sports ever written . To begin, when I first opened the novel I had already had high expectations for the book as I and many others had already enjoyed the movie adaptation of the novel (though the book came out first), so it s no surprise that I immensely enjoyed the book. • 9. The Dangers Of Mount Everest Mount Everest is a destination that has been a struggle and an adventure to climb for thrill seekers. By the middle of the year 2013, a total of nearly four thousand people had reached the mountain s summit. Yet one day, Mount Everest may become a mountain of garbage. Climbers who climb Mount Everest often leave behind their unneeded items, such as food containers, empty oxygen canisters, and even human waste. All the debris left on the mountain stays frozen in place, due to the extreme weather conditions on Mount Everest. One day, Mount Everest may be fully polluted with climbers litter, where climbers must scale Mount Everest while stepping in garbage, instead of snow. On May 29, 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Hillary was very humble and did not consider this feat his most important achievement. Sir Edmund Hillary was deeply concerned about the environment and cared for the future of Mount Everest. For example, Hillary was also deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. He also demanded that mountain climbers clean up the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest materials like used oxygen bottles, which climbers would discard because of their weight ( Source #1: The World s Highest Mountain /paragraph 7). Different levels of analyses adopted in this research shed a new perceptive light on the reality of reporting the financial crisis in 2007 in which business journalists were troubled by a plethora of slanted opinions that never coalesced into a coherent examination of the problem. Comment discrepancies and all kinds of implausible interpretations from high ranking financial pundits might partially explain why despite a large number of business stories issued during the crisis the media remained baffled and uncertain about the length and depth of the downturn. However, that financial journalism put aside investigative reporting, as well as the fact that it could not adopt a critical view about the functioning of the system and identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critical, hardest hitting investigative stories were prevalent during this time. • 12. Spontaneous Human Combustion Do You think it s possible for a human being to all of a sudden ignite into a 3000 degree blaze? Well, there are multiple accounts of SHC that might prove it exists. SHC (Spontaneous Human Combustion) is when a human inexplicably bursts into a 3000 degree flame. Also, the strange part to the phenomenon, is that only the body burns, not the house or anything in it! Adding on to that, a usual house ignites and burns down completely from a 1500 degree flame. The most common things to find in a SHC case is the body being completely, or almost reduced to ashes. There will usually be a sweet, smoky smell in the room after the incident. In addition, there are a lot of cases that had alcoholics burst into flames. SHC is a real phenomenon that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to (History.com), Because the human body is composed mostly of water and it s only highly flammable properties are fat tissue and methane gas, the possibility of SHC being an actual phenomenon seems remote. Many scientists dismiss the theory, arguing that an undetected flame source such as a match or cigarette is the real culprit in suspected cases. Typically, deceased victims are found close to a fire source, and evidence suggests that many of them accidentally set themselves on fire while smoking or trying to light a flame. (History.com, is SHC real?) This evidence might have some reasonable points, but the wick effect seems like a more reasonable explanation for SHC. The wick effect is the name given to the partial destruction of a human body by fire, when the clothing of the victim soaks up melted human fat and acts like the wick of a candle. The wick effect is a phenomenon that is proven to occur under certain conditions, and has been thoroughly observed. The Great Depression led Americans to question capitalism due to Russia and their communist beliefs doing well, even though Americans had no true context of what was really going on in. The Soviet sports system introduced the raise the psychological and physical standards of their athletes by socializing social engineering into a collective. These two helped pave the way of the NBA in the 80 s as flashy and faced pace. This is a transition of the old school style of play of slowing the tempo and passing to find the open layup. For example, the dunk contest helps with the flashy play with the dunks of Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, and Michael Jordan. United States companies such as Ford Motor Company tend to put more emphasis on manufacturing costs after the fact. The Japanese tend to stress the proactive use of managerial accounting to promote the success and innovation of the products that are introduced. The accounting system used by the two is similar in some ways and differ in many others. The key area where they tend to come together is the bottom line which is where the final numbers are clear. Some feel as though to further shed light on how U.S. and Japanese companies differ, they must consider the goal, context and the process of the accounting practices. Causes And Policies Of Financial Crises Causes and Policies in Financial Crises Financial Crises are well known phenomena in economics history; however, after the Great Financial Crisis of 2007 2009 the role that Central Banks play in order to prevent Financial Crises has been questioned. To begin with, it is important to understand that crises consist of highly complex macro financial linkages that reflect the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy (Claessens 2012). Additionally, it is important to highlight two different financial crises groups: Currency and sudden stop crisis, which have strictly quantitative definitions; and debt and banking crises that depend on qualitative and judgmental analysis (Claessens 2012). Nevertheless, the interconnectivity of the financial sector demonstrates that major crises are a blend of the different types; thus, the effects on real economy are larger (Laevene 2008). In consequence, governments and central banks have the responsibility to develop monetary and macro prudential policies to appropriately supervise and regulate the financial industry (Norgren 2010). However, central banks have failed to appropriately understand the main symptoms that precede financial crises: credit booms and asset booms (Bijapur 2015). In fact, it is essential to comprehend these symptoms in order to develop policies that strengthen the fragility of the financial industry; hence, upholding stable growth and inflation. Six years later, Massachusetts followed. New Hampshire removed it from their constitutional interpretation. After this, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut adopted gradual emancipation programs, meaning they gradually freed slaves, ending it in these states. Finally, New York and New Jersey freed their slaves, leaving the southern colonies remaining. While some people did free their slaves in the south, many did not. This is because they heavily relied on them, not just for work, but for their status. It was woven in their lives to the point where it was a representation of the slave owner s wealth. Jefferson hated slavery, to the point where he made a plan to remove it in Virginia, which ended up failing. He was in a large amount of debt at the time, so he didn t believe he could free his own slaves while he was still alive. Thomas Jefferson had a close relationship with a slave named Sally Hemings, which was very controversial and considered shameful at the time. James Callender said that Jefferson had fathered several children from one of his slaves, which didn t get credit until Fawn M. Brodie published a book in 1974 called, Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History, where she portrayed the relationship between Jefferson and Hemings. While most versions showed their relationship as shameful and scandalous, she made it look like they were a happy couple, as if he fell in love with her and married when she was 14. Others do not think this way because Jefferson was very protective of his social life, going to extreme measures to hide it. This makes some people believe he was trying to hide something. Some are not sure if authorities would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Literary Theme Of Self Identity Essay In Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee writes, before I can live with other folks I ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn t abide by majority rule is a person s conscience (Lee, 108). As displayed in To Kill a Mockingbird and many others, the literary theme of self identity coupled with coming of age has been a long running one in the history of literature. Certainly, we find this theme in novels such as Between Tides and Shadows of Your Black Memory, respectively. The development of character and self identity is vital in the analysis of each protagonist. Between Tides follows Pierre Landu, a black Catholic Priest and revolutionist, on a journey to right his wrongs through rigorous self examination. Pierre, having rejected his African ancestry during adolescence, in attempts to integrate into the Catholic Priesthood finds himself dissatisfied with the priesthood during his adult years. In attempts to reconnect to his cultural roots he joins a revolutionist movement to deconstruct colonialism in his African nation. Through growth and the tumultuous discovery of self, Pierre recognizes that there is no easy resolution in rediscovering himself or Africa. Similarly, Shadows of Your Black Memory, is largely about a young boy s journey into adulthood. Shadows is retold through the memory of the adult version of the young boy. Unlike Pierre, the Narrator, who is never a given a name is strikingly aware of the cultural and social parallels in which his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Don John, coined as Shakespeare s most passive villain is plagued by the society of Messina that rejected him from the very moment of birth. Looking through the idea of predetermined roles in life, we can come to realize the roots of Don John s agitation arises from his illegitimacy, stacking him at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Here he feels obliged to act the part of the villain, delegated by his very own blood. Shakespeare always seems to have a set recipe for his villains, a dash of this, a sprinkle of that, forming a pattern that can be observed and connected over a ____of plays. He has a reason for being evil. Due to his positions as a bastard, characters immediately reject Don John and regard him with suspicion. With his villainy stemming from his rejection from society, it becomes clear why he is treated as an outcast. He is degraded to just Don Pedro s illegitimate half brother, sometimes referred to simply as the Bastard. He is a clear stand out from the rest of the characters due to his melancholy and pessimism, since as characters in a comedy are supposed to be surrounded by a joyful atmosphere, he is the only character that brings darkness and sadness to the play. Most of the other characters in the play prove outgoing, talkative, or at least social, and while such chattiness leads to problems when other characters overhear secrets, Don John s silence emerges as more disagreeable than willingness to divulge secrets. When Don John returns to Messina with his brother, the governor Leonato addresses him with immense hesitation: If you swear, my Lord, you shall not be forsworn Essentially, Leonato questions Don John s declaration of loyalty to Don Pedro, and although Leonato covers his harsh greeting with a welcoming of Don John, his doubts remain dormant under the surface of his kind words. Don John notices the undercurrent of distrust directed towards him and responds, I am not of many words, but I thank you Through his simple statement, Don John acknowledges society s perpetual distrust of him and provides the audience with key insight into his character. In a powerful statement, Don John confirms I am trusted with a muzzle and enfranchised with a clog; therefore I have decreed not to sing in my cage. If I had my mouth, I would bite; if I had my liberty, I would do my liking. Don John recognizes that no one truly trusts him; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Handbills were handed out which said that 12,000 Jew s died fighting for the nation. But these little protests compared as nothing to what the Germans did. They used propaganda to show that Jews were enemies of the Germans and were unworthy to be called German citizens. • 46. A Research Study On Business Education Running head: LEVERAGING RESEARCH TOENHANCE UNDERGRADUATE BUSINESS EDUCATION 1 Leveraging research to enhance undergraduate business education Luke Maass Northwest Missouri State University Authors note This paper was prepared for Student involvement in research activities in U.S. business schools used to be primarily offered to graduate students. However, many universities are now offering undergraduate research opportunities that can provide students with a deep understanding of the academic environment. Research allows the exploration and questioning of significant issues in today s world. This type of learning can provide students with more understanding than can be taught in a classroom or read in a textbook. Research challenges students to engage in the process of identifying and evaluating major issues and trends impacting businesses and society. Students also explore potential business implications that can drive innovation (The Boyer Commission). One goal of business school research is to enhance the prestige of the business school where the research is done. There is evidence that research does achieve that goal, as research has, historically, been regarded as the primary determinant of a school s prestige (Armstrong, 1995: 103). For example, Business Week magazine has added a research influence measure in its ratings of business schools. If a school scores highly on that measure, it enhances the overall prestige ranking. ... • 49. Larynx Essay Speech production is essentially the structures along the vocal tract that work together to modify the airstream and this can be greatly affected when someone has cancer of the Larynx. Laryngeal cancer, also known as Laryngeal Carcinoma, develops as a result of malignant cells that form in the tissues of the larynx and can be potentially life threatening. The larynx is a frequent site for cancer and accounts for 3 5% of human cancers. The larynx is critical for speech so anything that affects the larynx will disrupt the natural flow of vocal communication, especially something as extreme as Laryngeal Cancer. A person who undergoes procedures and surgeries to rid these cancerous cells can often result in a loss of speech. However, a person may have the opportunity to continue living as normally as possible with the use of Esophageal Speech. Although a person has to adapt to this new method of speaking, it allows them to still express themselves with their voice, even after surgery. The Larynx is located at the trachea and at the base of the tongue, consisting of three main parts known as Supraglottis, Glottis and Subglottis which all work together to create a properly working Larynx. It separates humans from other mammals because it is responsible for voice resonance and spoken language. The larynx is essential for many other bodily functions including swallowing, phonation and respiration. However, the larynx can be broken down into two primary functions ... This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. Marc s words conveyed an elusive quality to truth, that they cannot be seen or touched so easily as Matisse implied. I think this elusiveness is best symbolized in his Stables. In Abstract Art, Concrete Art, page 390, Jean Arp expressed his idea of a main truth, that artists do not want to copy nature but produce it. That they wish to create their own art directly and not have to interpret it from nature.
