Analysis Of Stanley Cohen s Folk Devils And Moral Panics
The term Moral Panic was an expression created by Stanley Cohen in his 1972 book Folk devils and
Moral Panics . Cohen, who was a sociology professor at the University of Essex in the 60s, developed
the concept of Moral Panic as a way to describe the media coverage of the violence that spawned
between two rival youth gangs (the Mods and the Rockers) and to explain the following societal
reaction to that era s adolescent sub culture.
Since then the term has been regularly used in the media to refer to all sorts of anti social and criminal
behaviours. The use of media can create unnecessary panic about a range of different subjects, one of
the most popular being drugs.
At around the same time as Cohen s original research and study, a man named Jock Young, another
sociologist and criminologist (and a co author with Cohen of later studies including The Manufacture
of News 1981), explored the moral panic that developed around the drug use of hippies in the mid to
late 60s.
In particular he researched and examined the social reaction to the use of marijuana in the Notting Hill
area of West London and described the process of deviance amplification which is a process that
occurs as a consequence of a moral panic over a specific type of behaviour. In a nutshell, deviance
amplification is reinforcing the effect that happens as a result of a negative social reaction to such
criminal or deviant behaviour (i.e, drug use) and this happens on a daily basis in the media,

The Ozone Hole And Polar Regions
The Ozone Hole and the Polar Regions The Polar Regions of the Earth have slowly been fading away
in the past two centuries, but with the introduction of a new and growing problem, the ozone hole, the
Polar Regions are more vulnerable than ever before. The depletion of the ozone within the atmosphere
has caused the atmosphere to alter its radiative effects and raise the overall climate of the Earth. The
Earth s ozone layer has continued to dwindle down in size and it has had profound effects on its
radiative ability. The Earth s undergoes a natural process, known as the greenhouse effect, which
involves greenhouse gasses to absorb heat and radiate it back towards Earth. This allows Earth to have
a temperature that can support life. Due the widening of the ozone hole, the greenhouse effect has
become accelerated. The substances that destroy ozone molecules, including CFCs, are also very
strong greenhouse gasses which intensify the greenhouse effect and cause the lower troposphere to
warm. Furthermore, the depletion of ozone allows ultraviolet rays to easily pass through the
stratosphere and hit Earth, which, in turn, raises the temperature of the lower atmosphere. This rise in
temperature has caused a great deal of implications in the Polar Regions.
The Climate Change and the Polar Regions The Polar Regions are made mostly of ice and are very
susceptible to heat. The accelerated Greenhouse Effect has caused Arctic temperatures to increase 3°C
in the past 100 years. This

What Is The Message Of Cyrano De Bergerac
There are not many movies that have been produced that consider the nature of beauty and inner self,
while still having an emotive storyline, the film Cyrano de Bergerac is one of them. The tangled
relationships of Roxane, Cyrano and Christian, along with many minor characters of the film, explore
what is most important and what truly prevails in love. Even though at the end of the film you are left
with a melancholy feeling brought up by the fact that the main characters quite literally lose
everything, you still find that it has given the viewer a message. A message saying that you will not
get what you want if you don t try or if you stay quiet, even if you are rejected at least you tried.
The message of the film is truly embodied by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knowing now, that if he expresses his love he is surely to be rejected, he does not speak a word. When
Christian comes to him wanting to write poetry, Cyrano comes up with the plan that he will write the
letters for Christian. He does not mean this as a ruse but as a way of expressing his love for Roxane.
Roxane eventually falls in love with the writer, while believing it to be Christian still, yet any chance
of a relationship between the two fails because of Christian s untimely bereavement. We ultimately see
that neither Roxane nor Cyrano achieve love.
Love is represented as the most important value, above life, in this film and we see this through
Roxane and Cyrano s relationship, Cyrano loved Roxane more than his life. He even went to see her
when he knew he was going to die soon. He didn t think of the consequences and his love prevailed
because he wanted to see her just one more time, because he made her a promise. Also, their
relationship gives us an indication into the true nature of beauty and inner self, when it shows us that
there are two kinds of beauty, inner and outer, yet the latter is more important because it shows us a
person s soul.
The film also indicates ideas of false and misguided love, as seen by the characters of Roxane and
Christian, who believe that they are in love with each other but are in fact in love with other people.
Roxane first falls in love with Christian for

Analysis of The Titanic, by James Cameron Essay
Within the context of film industry, the film Titanic by James Cameron belongs to epic romance/
disaster genre. The film, released in 1997, was a global box office hit because the director provided
equal importance to history, fiction and romance. To be specific, one can see that the film s plot is
based upon the history of RMS Titanic. On the other side, the main characters including the
protagonist and the heroine (Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater/Dawson) are fictional characters.
Besides, the element of romance between the main characters (Jack and Rose) is the film s main
attraction. Thesis statement: The critical analysis of the film Titanic proves that the innovative mode
of storytelling (flash back and other techniques), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within this context, the director made use of flashback technique to unearth the romantic story of the
lovers in the film. To be specific, the plot moves from present condition (say, 1996) to past (say, 1912)
and to present (1996). In the opening scene, the director portrays the effort of Brock Lovett (say, a
treasure hunter) to unearth the secret behind a necklace sunk with RMS Titanic in 1912. Gradually, the
director portrays the love affair between Rose and Jack. In the end, Rose drops the necklace into the
Ocean and returns. The film ends with a fictional reunion between the lovers. B. Acting The film s
casting is related to historical and fictional characters. For instance, some of real travelers in the RMS
Titanic are portrayed in the film. This is helpful for the viewers to identify the historical element of the
film. On the other side, the protagonist and the heroine are fictional characters. For instance, Jack and
Rose, (the protagonist and his lady love) are fictional characters who inculcated the element of
romance in the film. One can see that the director s decision to caste Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack
Dawson (say, the protagonist) is one of the elements behind the commercial success of the film.
Besides, DiCaprio s youthful exuberance suits his character in the film. On the other side, Kate
Winslet s character as Rose DeWitt Bukater is apt

Nile River Cycle Analysis
In Egypt, the Nile River creates a rich green valley across the desert. It was by the banks of the river
that one of the oldest civilizations in the world began. The ancient Egyptians lived and farmed along
the Nile, using the soil to produce food for themselves and their animals. Document A, a map of Egypt
around 1500 BCE, was founded by multiple sources and was created in order to illustrate how the
placement of the river was beneficial to the success of cities across Egypt. The creators of this map
had no bias because the structure of the document is strictly factual. The map demonstrates the areas
that are gray represent the fertile Nile Valley. The Nile Valley is spread across lower and upper Egypt,
from cities such as Buto to Abu Simbel. It is an important document because it clarifies how the river
was able to have a strong influence on the citizens of Egypt. This indicates that there was a vast
number of people that had to depend on the Nile as a freshwater source, even for tasks included in
their daily life.
Document B, a chart of The Nile River Flood Cycle, written by Katherine Hinds was written to
explain how the different seasons of Egypt were affected by the river s flood cycle. Hinds view on the
river s flood cycle may be influenced by the fact that she will unintentionally compare ancient Egypt s
different seasons to modern times, however, this bias is not evident in the text. The seasons mentioned
were Akhet, the flood season, Peret, the planting and growing season, and Shemu, the harvest season.
Akhet took place in mid June to mid October, and in these months the fields were subjected to
flooding, due to the surrounding river, which meant farmers were provided with more labor such as
canal repair. Peret came to pass in mid October to mid February where enough time has passed for the
water to subside and supply irrigation canals, in which crops were planted and sustained until Shemu,
which took place until the cycle resumed its place in Akhet, where they were then harvested and sold
in the market. The document s intent was to express how the different seasons were useful to everyday
life long ago. It is significant because it shows how people were employed and citizens were provided

The Basic Types Of Tissue
Tissue
In humans, there are four basic types of tissue:
1. Connective tissue
2. Muscle tissue
3. Nervous tissue
4. Epithelial tissue
Epithelial tissue subtypes
The epithelial tissue covers inner and outer layer/surface of the body, e.g. the stomach, or blood lines,
vessels and the lung.
The epithelium consists of closely packed, flattened cells that make up the inside/ outside lining of
body areas. Epithelial tissues that cover/line surfaces are classified by cell shape and by the number of
cell layers, the image on the left is the subtypes of epithelial tissue;
Squamous flattened cells, fried egg shape in appearance. The nucleus is flattened and centrally
located. Because of their thin membrane and large surface area, it allows passage of small molecules
e.g. air diffusion in the lungs. The function of simple squamous tissue is absorption excretion of gases
lungs. And the function of stratified squamous is protection due to its many layers and is located in the
outer layer of skin, oral cavity lining, esophagus, vaginal anal canal.
Cuboidal cubed or squarish shaped, has a single nucleus located in the middle. The simple cuboidal
tissue can be found in the lines of kidney tubules and glands it s function is absorption, secretion and
protection. The stratified cuboidal tissue is found in the lines ducts of sweat glands, it s job is to
secrete water ions.
Columnar has the shape of a column. The simple columnar tissue is a single row of tall, closely

Violent Video Games
Violence in Video Games
Violent video games have been an epidemic for decades. Furthermore, the violence in video games
has increased and has become more realistic. Violent games like Mortal Kombat, Dead Space, Grand
Theft Auto and Call of Duty have become common household games. Boys are more effected by
video games; thus, video games have made males more violent because they include military
techniques, reality based settings, and change people s behaviors.
Knowing the history of violent video games is important in understanding how they have become
more violent. In 1976 Exidy games released the first violent video game, Death Race. In that game the
player would drive a car over stick figures, turning them into gravestones (Douglass). The public was
soon outraged by the video game and, the end result was that Exidy sales doubled or quadrupled (qtd.
in Douglass). People wanted the violence.
Most early video games did not include people to people violence like most games now, they were just
the gateway into the world of violence. The founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell said, We had an internal
rule that we wouldn t allow violence against people. You could blow up a tank or you could blow up a
flying saucer, but you couldn t blow up people (Douglass). Later companies formed and with them
came better graphics, therefore more gore. Gradually it became clear that games sold better if they
contained more violence, and with that games like Mortal Kombat, with one to one

Analysis Of Patrick Henry s Speech
On March 23 of 1775, Patrick Henry gave a speech to his fellow Virginians at Saint John s Church
Richmond, VA. What did he want Virginians to do? He needed to tell the Virginians to arm and defend
themselves. Patrick Henry wanted everyone to be on the same page as him on the subject of their
independence. He wanted their independence no matter the cost. He was willing to go to war. The
point of his speech was to have the Virginians on his side about starting to rise against their mother
land and begin a revolt against Britain s King George III. His famous words Give me liberty or give
me death! brought on an emotional appeal to the colonists which showed that Henry s call to action
worked. Another way he affected the listeners on an emotional level was that he pointed out how the
British people made them into slaves for their own benefit. He wanted his fellow Virginians to open
their eyes to the reality of what is going on and not just pretend it is not happening. He was telling
them not to trust the British and their petitions or the acceptance of one. If they did not rise up against
the British, they would stay servants to them. How did he justify his desire? Desire is needed in order
to grab the audience s attention. His desire can be seen and heard throughout his speech. Henry was a
leader in Virginia and the other colonies and was known for speaking out and resisting the English
rule. This is a way to show how his desires were justified. He grabbed their attention by

Elizabeth Gaskell s North And South
In Elizabeth Gaskell s North and South, the simmering tension between the striking mill workers of
Milton and their employer John Thornton come to a head in Chapter 22 A Blow and its Consequences
. The millhands, enraged at Thornton s hiring of Irish workers while they are on strike, descend in a
mob upon Thornton s mill and home. This chapter is also pivotal in the relationship between Thornton
and the novel s principal character Margaret Hale. In the novel, Gaskell parallels the conflict between
Thornton and his workers with the conflict between Thornton and Margaret. Both relationships erupt
in this chapter leading to consequences throughout the rest of the novel. Gaskell establishes the
tension in this chapter by using imagery and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

New Football Stadium Of Las Vegas
New football stadium coming to Las Vegas
Excitement has engulfed Nevada following the news that a new stadium could soon grace the world
famous Las Vegas Strip. On August 26, The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that a 62 acre piece of
land belonging to a consortium of banks from New York and Dallas was favored as the venue to host
the $1.9 billion, 62,000 sitter Raiders football arena. The banking consortium operating under the
Nevada Land Group LLC includes Credit Suisse Management, Barclays Bank, NexBank, and
Highland Capital Management. The much sought swathes of land lie west of Mandalay bay and
Interstate 15. The cost of land, and undisclosed site infrastructure is expected to cost between $350
million to $400 million. The deal, whose details are yet to be fully revealed, is a partnership between
Raiders Football Team, Las Vegas Sands Corporation and the state of Nevada.
If the plans are realized, a company called Majestic Realty will be tasked with building the ultra
modern stadium. Owing to the stadium revelations, the Raiders is planning to write to the Football
governing body, the National Football League to request for permission to relocate the franchise to
Las Vegas from its current base at Oakland Alameda Coliseum in Oakland California. The multi
purpose stadium was constructed in the mid 60 s is shared by both professional baseball and football
clubs. The seating capacity for football and baseball stadiums is 56,000 and 35,000 respectively. It is

Western Versus Indigenous use of Psilocybin
Another clinical study of psilocybin done at the University of Arizona and led by Francisco Morena,
was conducted in 2007 to evaluate the effects of psilocybin on the symptoms of obsessive compulsive
disorder in nine subjects. The researchers addressed two questions: does oral ingestion of psilocybin
lead to an acute decrease in OCD symptoms and is what dose is required to demonstrate significant
reduction in symptoms. The results revealed that when administered in a supportive clinical
environment, psilocybin was safe and well tolerated. The psilocybin was associated with transient
symptomatic reduction of OCD symptoms in subjects with treatment resistance OCD ( ). Although
there is an understanding of the psychedelic mechanism of action of psilocybin, it s not clear exactly
which receptors and pathways are involved in mediating the anti obsessional responses. The intent of
the study was not to conduct psychedelic facilitated therapy, however five of the subjects readily
described their experiences as very psychologically and spiritually enriching and four of the subjects
reported profound positive transcendental experiences such as exploration of other planets, visiting
past life reincarnations and interacting with deities. The results also showed most subjects reporting
symptom reduction experiences a period of relief that extending far beyond the session. In summary,
although there are some gaps in the understanding of how the psilocybin interacts to reduce OCD

John Everett Millais Ophelia
During 1852, John Everett Millais created an astounding masterpiece, of oil on canvas, called
Ophelia. The primary focus is the character of Ophelia from Shakespeare s play Hamlet. The painting
is made to illustrate the tragic death of Ophelia in Shakespeare s play Hamlet, where she fell in the
stream and drowned. In the painting, Ophelia is observed lying down in the middle of a running,
narrow, river. She is painted with a long white dress layered with lace and beads highlighting her
importance in the painting. Ophelia s body is shown submerged with only her face, neck, breasts, and
hands floating at the surface, along with parts of her dress. Her hair is shown drifting in the water

flowers around her illustrate her delicacy. The flowers on the bushes and ground are white signifying
purity and peace ( Ophelia s Flowers ). While in accordance with the story, the roses signify her
brother s nickname for her rose of may . While the willows, nettles, and daisies illustrate abandoned
love, innocence and pain (Bill). As for the chain of violets around Ophelia s neck, it demonstrates

space to represent a more realistic setting, however the artist still desired to keep the attention directed

Pros And Cons Of Confederate Statues
Gersh Kentzman in the New York Daily News gave the reasonable and understandable reason of why
the federate statues should be removed. He asked why there are no statues of Adolf Hitler in Berlin.
Usually, the statues are to honor people who did something good to their country; someone who put
his life in danger to save his country. Statues also are to honor people s service to the country. The
Confederate statues are for people who divided the country and separated citizens according to their
skin colors or their social classes. These confederate statues and monuments should be removed
because those people did not do anything to build the country. The Confederate statues can easily
remind the victims of civil war or slavery what they went through and how they were treated. Thus
causes conflicts between them and those who made them went through what they went through.
Mayor Landrew, who removed the statue of General Robert E. Lee in South Carolina, said these
statues... are not just innocent remembrances of a benign history. These monuments purposefully
celebrate a fictional, sanite confederacy ignoring the death, ignoring the enslavement... The
Confederate monuments and statues are just like a bad memory; nobody wants to keep remembering
it; so why the U.S. should keep those bad men statues? The federate statues should be removed in the
whole country because those men do not deserve any honor. The federate statues and monuments are

Contemplative Importance
The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1)
Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical
exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating
in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to
attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating
in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s
present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and
words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices
in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my
opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a
sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully
embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain
topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation
portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and
constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Since arriving at

What Is The Meaning Of It Should Happen To You
It Should Happen to You is a comedy released in 1950s America, showing the road of an anonymous
girl, Gladys, being famous in a bourgeois society through the power of myth. As the executor of the
myth, Gladys collaborates with Adam III s idea of average American girl achieving her dream of being
well known to the public by making various commercial advertisements in the movie. The individuals
of the bourgeoisie identify themselves with the image of Gladys in advertisements as loyal consumers

As Gladys starts to take different kinds of commercial advertisements, she has significant numbers of
ads appear on billboards, newspapers, and magazines regularly. At the same time, as Barthes mentions
in Mythologies, [m]yths are nothing but this ceaseless, untiring solicitation, this insidious and
inflexible demand that all men recognize themselves in this image, eternal yet bearing a date, which
was built of them one day as if for all time. (155) Therefore, Gladys and her corresponding notion of
average American girl penetrate deeply into the people s mind because of the power of media. The
mass media transmits and reinforces the message again and again until the public is used to its
existence and finally accept it. The bourgeoisie who identify themselves with the image of Gladys as
an ordinary individual in the society inevitably desires to purchase the things Gladys endorsed. Since
the loyal consumers believe in the myth of Gladys, those things mentioned in the advertisement, for
them, turns out to be the essential types of the bourgeois culture with no

Scientific Management Theory Paper
In organizational world, the management and organizational theory plays an important part in the
operations of business, companies and administrations. An organization consists of two or more
persons in a systematic effort to produce goods or services. Thus, an organization needs a management
to achieve the organizational goals through some managerial process which is an ongoing activity.
Therefore, in every organization has a manager that plays important roles as systematic planner.
According to Cleslinska (2007), managers need a knowledge base and management skill to act out
roles and plan, organize, lead and control. Generally, a lot of managers run their organizations using
the Scientific Management Theory. In this paper, I will discuss ... Show more content on

According to Hasebur Rahman (2012) stated that Taylor shows the value of matching the job to the
worker. The management s duty is to study the employees carefully and not just leave it to the poor.
He also emphasized the selection proceeds years after years and need to study workers strengths and
weaknesses and provides training to improve workers performance. The employees must be able to do
a better class of work and pay higher wages than before (Shafritz Ott, 1991). Taylor s principle is to
ensure the most efficient way would be use workers in order to make the standard work process. At
this point, the production process is divided into numerous divisions where this makes managers
easily to control and co ordinate the workers performance and to improve the efficiency of the
organization. Thus, the efficiency will increase when the work is divided into different parts according
to different functional departments and each individual should be assigned to work according to their
ability and interest rather than giving the whole process of the production to one person (Monden,

Business For The Glory Of God
Business for the Glory of God is a book that helps Christians work in Business for God. Wayne
Grudem did an excellent job of sharing and providing the purpose and meaning of business and ways
to glorify God while conducting said business. The main themes Grudem talks about include;
ownership, productivity, employment, commercial transactions, profit, money, inequality of
possessions, competition, borrowing and lending, attitudes of the heart and the effect on world
poverty. He kept his thoughts short and to the point, allowing for the important information to be
shared with his readers. I agreed with all of his main thoughts, especially when he spoke about his
discussion on money and attitudes of the heart; however, there is significant neglect in the area of
government regulations throughout the book. In this review I will discuss the good and the neglect.
Wayne Grudem starts his book with an introduction to answer the most basic question when it comes
to reading this book; is business basically good or evil? (Grudem, 2003) To really understand Grudem
and his message it is important to know where the bible and you stand on the answer to that question.
But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so
confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. (Deuteronomy 8:18) We are
also told multiple times in the Bible to fear not, this fear can put a stop to a business idea or business

Apollo Moon Landing Evidence
On July 16th, 1969 the Apollo 11 spacecraft launched from Earth and landed on the moon four days

United States. Conspiracy theorists have tried to prove that the moon landings were fake from the
moment the Apollo 11 spacecraft landed on the moon. One of the conspiracy theorists biggest pieces
of evidence against the moon landing are two photos from NASA, which have been proven to actually

Multicultural Education in the Classroom
The Benefits of Multicultural Education in the Classroom I have grown up with Education being my
catapult through life; I love it. I love to study children and figure out how they learn and how our
educational experiences shape us as adults. Five years ago, I found myself accepting a position as a
Toddler teacher in a government facility. To describe it simply, I was a fish out of water. I had
experience with children, but not with children so small. This experience taught me a great deal about
learning in our great world. I was amazed to witness the pure relationships between children of all
races in that little toddler room. All color aside, the children seemed to embrace each other s

The substantial task of desegregation did not come without its struggles. Parents were faced with
issues of involvement in their child s education due to distance between their child s school and home.
Some schools reported vandalism and student frustration in regards to the change of scenery. In 2001,
busing for Charlotte students ended, but not without leaving a legacy. Since the termination of busing,
student test scores continue to rise, even surpassing those of other urban school districts such as Los
Angeles, Chicago, and Houston (NPR, 2004).
Though mandatory busing ended, school districts continue to encourage the multicultural movement
by providing magnet programs for families who would like their child to attend another school. The
concept is the same as busing; however, participation is voluntary. Economically, the gap is
narrowing, balancing our communities. Forty percent of African Americans consider themselves to be
middle class, seventy five percent own their own homes, and two parent households earn just thirteen
percent less than Caucasian parents (Thernstrom, 1998). There are improvements to be made as the
economy continues to control and group together families within the same income bracket. Many
times, this binds families to certain schools with no other options available. Statistics show that from
1993 to 2003, there was a similar outcome regarding the schools middle class families attended. Out

Hypothermia Treatment Of Cardiac Arrest
Hypothermia for Cardiac Arrest
Introduction
Survivors of cardiac arrest often suffer from neurological damage when oxygen to the brain is
depleted. This ischemia to the brain can cause lesions or damaged areas; which can effect any part of
the body that is controlled by that portion of the brain. Decreasing the body temperature of a patient
has shown to be effective in decreasing the amount of damage to the brain. Therapeutic hypothermia
may be a reasonable treatment for patients following cardiac arrest due to its ability to decrease the
impact of ischemia; reducing the number of lesions to the brain and possibly reducing the patient
mortality rate. This paper will discuss the benefits, risks, and Mercy Hospital s protocol for using
therapeutic hypothermia following a cardiac arrest.

Opera Buffa Social Structure
Mozart composed three Italian opera buffa Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan tutte with
Lorenzo Da Ponte s libretto. In the eighteenth century, the advent of Enlightenment in Europe changed
the hierarchical social structure in European society. It brought great change to the women s lifestyle
by allowing noblewomen to have equal power to men and to voice themselves. Also, peasant women
changed their lifestyle by being treated more equally as men who were at the same social level.
Mozart brought this social phenomenon to the opera since opera buffa reflected how common people
interacted with nobles and how men have started to respect women s opinions. Mozart demonstrated
gendered social structure by using soubrette characters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The maid views love as a power dynamic that requires women to offset their socially established
disadvantage with cleverness. Despina believes that women learn to be unfaithful because men are
that way .
Despina, a lower class woman, believes women and men should be equally treated. It shows that in
the era, women have an awareness of being equal to men. Also, I found that a maid s subordinate
position was raised in the eighteenth century. When the Revolution occurred, the mainstream social
class was lower class. If Despina was not just a character but an actual woman, she definitely would
have participated in the revolution.
Mozart s Opera buffa reflects the cultural and historical materials in the eighteenth century and shows
the life of common people. In the eighteenth century, the Enlightenment aroused throughout Europe
and this idea aimed for the general progress of humanity. The world was broken from the aristocratic
society to the lower class. Public opinion promoted equality over hierarchy. Women took part in the
revolution, and they improved their status in their family and society. They demanded a proper
education thus literacy highly increased. With these influences, Soubrette characters in Mozart s opera
buffa: Susanna, Zerlina and Despina have a mysterious power from the Enlightenment. He maintains
the characters in the same class and he did not break the social structure. However, he presents
equality between women and men. Women

Practicing Patient Care
Last week, I had the rare privilege of listening to one of the finest pharmacists of our time Dr. Ryan B.
Jacobsen. As I meditated on some of his approaches to advancing patient care, I thought about the
rationale behind my decision to become a pharmacist. I chose pharmacy as a profession because I
want to make a significant difference in the life of every patient that comes my way. Dr. Jacobsen
rekindled my passion for patient care when he talked about the importance of making patients care my
primary concern. Patient centered care is indeed a great methodology healthcare providers can
implement to improve patients health outcome.

J. Cole s Speech Analysis
As a little girl, I would stand in front of my mother s mirror, grab the television remote and pretend to
deliver a speech before my stuffed animals. There was no question whenever I was asked, What do
you want to be when you grow up? that I d quickly respond with, the president of the United States.
Although that childhood dream quickly diferred, as a college freshman at the age of 19, I would
experience an event that may someday be written down in history books because it was not an average
event of entertainment in seeing J. Cole perform live at a coliseum or Dwayne Wade in a Miami Heat

loved ones to assure that I was ok. I was unaware of what had just happened 0.3 miles up the road.
Days later I was pleased to hear that President Obama would be in town to deliver the eulogy for the

hundreds stood before me. Never in my life had I seen so many police officers and people from across

from such a pleasant and honorable man. I heard praises from the citizens of the Holy City and my
favorite; the eulogy given that spake of race, a need for gun control, and the controversy of the
confederate flag. It was the most touching when Obama lead everyone in attendance in the singing of
Amazing Grace. The entire multi purpose arena holding over 5,000 persons were completely filled.

night, room number 7 exudes an aura of balanced evil and hatred. The only company provided is the
gossip overheard from the two women on the stairs leading to my room and the occasional police
sirens fading in the distance. Did you hear Esmeralda? Number 8 is going to be evicted. The second

Jude s Death On The Cross Essay
Jude was the younger half brother of Jesus, born of Mary and Joseph. During the life and ministry of
Jesus Christ, Jude and his other brothers openly expressed doubt in the divinity of Jesus (John 7:3 8),
but Jude did eventually became a believer after Jesus death on the cross (Acts 1:14). The epistle of
Jude is written to a general audience of Christians, who are called beloved in God the Father and kept
for Jesus Christ (v. 1). Jude begins by saying that He had planned to write about common salvation,
but there were more pressing matters that he had to attend to. Jude s self professed purpose for writing
his epistle is to rally his readers to contend for the faith against false teachers who might draw
believers away from the truth (v. 3). Jude s method is twofold; he identifies the false teachers who
have infiltrated the church, and he urges the church not to be swayed into apostasy by their
blasphemous teachings.
First and foremost, it is important to accurately determine a timeframe in which Jude was written.
Jude s discussion of the false teachers in verses 4 18 closely resembles 2 Peter 2:1 3:4, and many
scholars argue that Peter s second epistle predates Jude for a number of reasons. The first of these
reasons is Peter s anticipation of false teachers to come (2 Pet. 2:1 2, 3:3), which chronologically
speaking comes before the arrival of the false teachers, which Jude vv. 4, 11 12, 17 18 deals with. The
second piece of evident is found in Jude 1:17 18. Here,

The Benefits of Year Round Education and Extended School...
Year round education (YRE) is implemented in 436 U.S. school districts with very few complaints. In
fact, school districts that have been participating in YRE and extended school days (ESD) are raving
about the benefits in pupil s achievement level, their new found enthusiasm in learning, as well as the
many programs that exist in the extended day promoting the decline in latch key children.
Some schools decided to initiate YRE and ESD because of swelling enrollments and lack of student
achievement. There were many issues raised when deciding if YRE and ESD were a step in the right
direction. For one, we are all creatures of habit, and to implement a new school schedule would mean
extensive changes. Second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By keeping the child in school on a year round schedule or ESD students will be less likely to loose
information due to a long summer recess and have more time in a learning environment, therefore,
enriching the child s learning abilities.
There are different types of YRE and ESD schedules. The most popular schedule is single track and is
usually implemented for the purpose of academic improvements. On a single track schedule children
attend school year round with frequent intersessions or breaks. Typical schedules might be 90 30, 60
20, or 45 15 where the first number indicates days of instruction and the second, days of vacations
(Opheim, Mohahjer, Read, 1996). There is also a multi track schedule, which is known to be more
cost efficient. This schedule is often implemented when the school is overcrowded, in poor
neighborhoods, as well as in inner city schools. On a multi track schedule students schedules are
consistent with the single track 90 30, 60 20, or 45 15, however, students are assigned to one of the
several tracks which are staggered therefore, no one group of students has the same intersession at the
same time. By staggering attendance schedules, class size is deducted. Studies have concluded that
decreased class size promotes more efficient learning.

Task 1 HR Planning Factors Affecting Resourcing and Talent Policy
AC 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
Good Morning Brian,

HR planning is a continuous process of planning to use our human capital in its best effective way.
The aim is to ensure the right people are in the right job while avoiding having not enough staff or too

Task 2 Job Analysis (AC 3.1)
The current job description and person specification for the role of shop manager is a good starting
point yet needs to be developed to incorporate evolving business needs. At present the nature and
scope section repeats what is stated in the key accountabilities . Also the key accountabilities are
behind the times i.e. reports on both computer disk and hard copy either for email or post , now a days
most reports would always be prepared using a computer and emailed across. I would ensure the
responsibilities are written in a way that matches today s technology. At no point does the job
description mention that the stores the new shop managers will be working in are brand new and in
new areas. I would add an accountability regarding this, stating the need to establish the new store in
the local retail industry. To enhance the lure of the role I would add a section regarding performance
management, adding what bonus elegant shoes could off for meeting set targets, at present this is

The Enlightment In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, readers can interpret that Shelley is highly critical of the Enlightment
movement s scientific calculated approach towards the understanding of the world. Anthropocentrism
dominated scientific and intellectual discourses so it believed that that science and technology, will
drive humans to the impossible feats and the understanding of the unknown. Shelley s attacks this
notion through the protagonist, Victor Frankenstein, who succumbs to an ironic consequence; his
aspiration to become a creator of life leads to failure and misery, becoming even more disconnected
from the world. However, it can also be interpreted how it was Frankenstein s creation through
science, the monster, was the only force that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

philosophy although it criticizes religious beliefs. Just as God could not create and control how we
believe and feel, Frankenstein could not control the way his creation feels. The monster emphasizes
this idea by trying to enlighten Frankenstein of how it his duty to provide for the monster and
understand him. When the monster says
Unfeeling, heartless creator! You had endowed me with perceptions and passions, and then cast me
abroad an object for the scorn and horror of mankind. But on you only had I any claim for pity and

Similarities Between Of Mice And Men
John Steinbeck is considered one of the great American authors. His novels centered on the American
landscape, particularly California. John Steinbeck s 1937 novel, Of Mice and Men, is a classic
American novel about two ranch workers who struggle to keep their dream alive. In 1992, a MGM
film adaptation directed by Gary Sinise was created. As with all book to film adaptations, many
people debate over which work is better. Some say that the book is better because it creates a mood of
darkness within the reader. Although both works convey their themes well, Steinbeck s novel has more
emotional impact on readers due to its setting and mood. The novel s setting exceeds the film s
because it is meaningful and symbolic. The author utilizes the California ... Show more content on

Characters are presented differently scene to scene to change the reader s perspective of them. For
example, in the film Curley s wife is depicted as a lonely housewife who is desperate to leave her
husband. Although this characterization is accurate, the novel provides a more complex view of her
because it shows how her frustration manifests itself in her treatment of others. One instance of her
pent up anger hurting others is when she verbally attacks Crooks. She declares, Listen, Nigger... You
know what I can do to you if you open your trap?...you keep your place, Nigger. I could get you strung
up on a tree so easy it ain t even funny (Steinbeck, 79). This moment of cruelty shows that Curley s
wife has been corrupted by the evil of the world. She hurts those who are lower than her on the social
hierarchy because she believes doing so will make people respect her. This shows that she is deeply
insecure of her place in the world. The reader comes to hate Curley s wife, until they learn more about
her life. She monologues about her dreams of becoming an actress before she dies, but her death is
optimistic and bitter sweet. The author states, ... the meanness and the plannings and the discontent
and the ache for attention were all gone from her face. She was

Analyzing Winckler s Family Guy
The analysis of the first episode of Family Guy is important in that, as Winckler puts it, the pilot of
any series is representative of the whole program (44). The general atmosphere, the characters
introduced, and a few catchphrases set the tone of the sitcom. Some cutaway gags appear, cultural
references are made and a few borderline jokes are told, thus categorizing the show as an adult series.
The pilot truly embodies these characteristics that will remain the hallmarks of the show. In the case of
Family Guy, the airing time also played a key role in the success of the sitcom, as the pilot was first
broadcast right after Super Bowl XXXIII. The plot was highly inspired by MacFarlane s final
university project called The Life of Larry, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first cutaway takes place at church, where the priest talks about the story of Job. The French
version inexplicably calls Job Joe , even though his story and other Bible references are well known in
French culture. God is seen being embarrassed by the story, a gag that works in both languages quite
well. When the priest tells Peter that the communion wine is indeed the blood of the Christ, Peter says
that Jesus must have been wasted 24 hours a day ; the adaptors changed the sentence, possibly out of
fear of offending viewers, to On peut me faire des transfusions tous les jours ou c est trop demander? .
The effect it has is similar but the original does surprisingly not emphasize much Peter s alcoholism.
In the next memory, Peter is seen eating some buttered rum ice cream. In French, the ice cream flavor
is changed to rhum raisin , a different one yet equivalent in alcoholic effect. In the final cutaway, the
family is seen watching Philadelphia at the movie theater. After a while, Peter recognizes Tom Hanks
from the comedy Big and thus laughs at everything the actor says, including his confessing that he has
AIDS. The joke successfully transfers to French since Tom Hanks and his filmography are famous in
French culture, and the fact that Peter would laugh at such a serious matter categorizes him as

  • 2. Analysis Of Stanley Cohen s Folk Devils And Moral Panics The term Moral Panic was an expression created by Stanley Cohen in his 1972 book Folk devils and Moral Panics . Cohen, who was a sociology professor at the University of Essex in the 60s, developed the concept of Moral Panic as a way to describe the media coverage of the violence that spawned between two rival youth gangs (the Mods and the Rockers) and to explain the following societal reaction to that era s adolescent sub culture. Since then the term has been regularly used in the media to refer to all sorts of anti social and criminal behaviours. The use of media can create unnecessary panic about a range of different subjects, one of the most popular being drugs. At around the same time as Cohen s original research and study, a man named Jock Young, another sociologist and criminologist (and a co author with Cohen of later studies including The Manufacture of News 1981), explored the moral panic that developed around the drug use of hippies in the mid to late 60s. In particular he researched and examined the social reaction to the use of marijuana in the Notting Hill area of West London and described the process of deviance amplification which is a process that occurs as a consequence of a moral panic over a specific type of behaviour. In a nutshell, deviance amplification is reinforcing the effect that happens as a result of a negative social reaction to such criminal or deviant behaviour (i.e, drug use) and this happens on a daily basis in the media, ... • 3. The Ozone Hole And Polar Regions The Ozone Hole and the Polar Regions The Polar Regions of the Earth have slowly been fading away in the past two centuries, but with the introduction of a new and growing problem, the ozone hole, the Polar Regions are more vulnerable than ever before. The depletion of the ozone within the atmosphere has caused the atmosphere to alter its radiative effects and raise the overall climate of the Earth. The Earth s ozone layer has continued to dwindle down in size and it has had profound effects on its radiative ability. The Earth s undergoes a natural process, known as the greenhouse effect, which involves greenhouse gasses to absorb heat and radiate it back towards Earth. This allows Earth to have a temperature that can support life. Due the widening of the ozone hole, the greenhouse effect has become accelerated. The substances that destroy ozone molecules, including CFCs, are also very strong greenhouse gasses which intensify the greenhouse effect and cause the lower troposphere to warm. Furthermore, the depletion of ozone allows ultraviolet rays to easily pass through the stratosphere and hit Earth, which, in turn, raises the temperature of the lower atmosphere. This rise in temperature has caused a great deal of implications in the Polar Regions. The Climate Change and the Polar Regions The Polar Regions are made mostly of ice and are very susceptible to heat. The accelerated Greenhouse Effect has caused Arctic temperatures to increase 3°C in the past 100 years. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is The Message Of Cyrano De Bergerac There are not many movies that have been produced that consider the nature of beauty and inner self, while still having an emotive storyline, the film Cyrano de Bergerac is one of them. The tangled relationships of Roxane, Cyrano and Christian, along with many minor characters of the film, explore what is most important and what truly prevails in love. Even though at the end of the film you are left with a melancholy feeling brought up by the fact that the main characters quite literally lose everything, you still find that it has given the viewer a message. A message saying that you will not get what you want if you don t try or if you stay quiet, even if you are rejected at least you tried. The message of the film is truly embodied by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowing now, that if he expresses his love he is surely to be rejected, he does not speak a word. When Christian comes to him wanting to write poetry, Cyrano comes up with the plan that he will write the letters for Christian. He does not mean this as a ruse but as a way of expressing his love for Roxane. Roxane eventually falls in love with the writer, while believing it to be Christian still, yet any chance of a relationship between the two fails because of Christian s untimely bereavement. We ultimately see that neither Roxane nor Cyrano achieve love. Love is represented as the most important value, above life, in this film and we see this through Roxane and Cyrano s relationship, Cyrano loved Roxane more than his life. He even went to see her when he knew he was going to die soon. He didn t think of the consequences and his love prevailed because he wanted to see her just one more time, because he made her a promise. Also, their relationship gives us an indication into the true nature of beauty and inner self, when it shows us that there are two kinds of beauty, inner and outer, yet the latter is more important because it shows us a person s soul. The film also indicates ideas of false and misguided love, as seen by the characters of Roxane and Christian, who believe that they are in love with each other but are in fact in love with other people. Roxane first falls in love with Christian for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis of The Titanic, by James Cameron Essay Within the context of film industry, the film Titanic by James Cameron belongs to epic romance/ disaster genre. The film, released in 1997, was a global box office hit because the director provided equal importance to history, fiction and romance. To be specific, one can see that the film s plot is based upon the history of RMS Titanic. On the other side, the main characters including the protagonist and the heroine (Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater/Dawson) are fictional characters. Besides, the element of romance between the main characters (Jack and Rose) is the film s main attraction. Thesis statement: The critical analysis of the film Titanic proves that the innovative mode of storytelling (flash back and other techniques), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this context, the director made use of flashback technique to unearth the romantic story of the lovers in the film. To be specific, the plot moves from present condition (say, 1996) to past (say, 1912) and to present (1996). In the opening scene, the director portrays the effort of Brock Lovett (say, a treasure hunter) to unearth the secret behind a necklace sunk with RMS Titanic in 1912. Gradually, the director portrays the love affair between Rose and Jack. In the end, Rose drops the necklace into the Ocean and returns. The film ends with a fictional reunion between the lovers. B. Acting The film s casting is related to historical and fictional characters. For instance, some of real travelers in the RMS Titanic are portrayed in the film. This is helpful for the viewers to identify the historical element of the film. On the other side, the protagonist and the heroine are fictional characters. For instance, Jack and Rose, (the protagonist and his lady love) are fictional characters who inculcated the element of romance in the film. One can see that the director s decision to caste Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson (say, the protagonist) is one of the elements behind the commercial success of the film. Besides, DiCaprio s youthful exuberance suits his character in the film. On the other side, Kate Winslet s character as Rose DeWitt Bukater is apt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Nile River Cycle Analysis In Egypt, the Nile River creates a rich green valley across the desert. It was by the banks of the river that one of the oldest civilizations in the world began. The ancient Egyptians lived and farmed along the Nile, using the soil to produce food for themselves and their animals. Document A, a map of Egypt around 1500 BCE, was founded by multiple sources and was created in order to illustrate how the placement of the river was beneficial to the success of cities across Egypt. The creators of this map had no bias because the structure of the document is strictly factual. The map demonstrates the areas that are gray represent the fertile Nile Valley. The Nile Valley is spread across lower and upper Egypt, from cities such as Buto to Abu Simbel. It is an important document because it clarifies how the river was able to have a strong influence on the citizens of Egypt. This indicates that there was a vast number of people that had to depend on the Nile as a freshwater source, even for tasks included in their daily life. Document B, a chart of The Nile River Flood Cycle, written by Katherine Hinds was written to explain how the different seasons of Egypt were affected by the river s flood cycle. Hinds view on the river s flood cycle may be influenced by the fact that she will unintentionally compare ancient Egypt s different seasons to modern times, however, this bias is not evident in the text. The seasons mentioned were Akhet, the flood season, Peret, the planting and growing season, and Shemu, the harvest season. Akhet took place in mid June to mid October, and in these months the fields were subjected to flooding, due to the surrounding river, which meant farmers were provided with more labor such as canal repair. Peret came to pass in mid October to mid February where enough time has passed for the water to subside and supply irrigation canals, in which crops were planted and sustained until Shemu, which took place until the cycle resumed its place in Akhet, where they were then harvested and sold in the market. The document s intent was to express how the different seasons were useful to everyday life long ago. It is significant because it shows how people were employed and citizens were provided with ... • 7. The Basic Types Of Tissue Tissue In humans, there are four basic types of tissue: 1. Connective tissue 2. Muscle tissue 3. Nervous tissue 4. Epithelial tissue Epithelial tissue subtypes The epithelial tissue covers inner and outer layer/surface of the body, e.g. the stomach, or blood lines, vessels and the lung. The epithelium consists of closely packed, flattened cells that make up the inside/ outside lining of body areas. Epithelial tissues that cover/line surfaces are classified by cell shape and by the number of cell layers, the image on the left is the subtypes of epithelial tissue; Squamous flattened cells, fried egg shape in appearance. The nucleus is flattened and centrally located. Because of their thin membrane and large surface area, it allows passage of small molecules e.g. air diffusion in the lungs. The function of simple squamous tissue is absorption excretion of gases lungs. And the function of stratified squamous is protection due to its many layers and is located in the outer layer of skin, oral cavity lining, esophagus, vaginal anal canal. Cuboidal cubed or squarish shaped, has a single nucleus located in the middle. The simple cuboidal tissue can be found in the lines of kidney tubules and glands it s function is absorption, secretion and protection. • 9. Violent Video Games Violence in Video Games Violent video games have been an epidemic for decades. Furthermore, the violence in video games has increased and has become more realistic. Violent games like Mortal Kombat, Dead Space, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty have become common household games. Boys are more effected by video games; thus, video games have made males more violent because they include military techniques, reality based settings, and change people s behaviors. Knowing the history of violent video games is important in understanding how they have become more violent. In 1976 Exidy games released the first violent video game, Death Race. In that game the player would drive a car over stick figures, turning them into gravestones (Douglass). The public was soon outraged by the video game and, the end result was that Exidy sales doubled or quadrupled (qtd. in Douglass). People wanted the violence. Most early video games did not include people to people violence like most games now, they were just the gateway into the world of violence. The founder of Atari, Nolan Bushnell said, We had an internal rule that we wouldn t allow violence against people. You could blow up a tank or you could blow up a flying saucer, but you couldn t blow up people (Douglass). Later companies formed and with them came better graphics, therefore more gore. Gradually it became clear that games sold better if they contained more violence, and with that games like Mortal Kombat, with one to one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis Of Patrick Henry s Speech On March 23 of 1775, Patrick Henry gave a speech to his fellow Virginians at Saint John s Church Richmond, VA. What did he want Virginians to do? He needed to tell the Virginians to arm and defend themselves. Patrick Henry wanted everyone to be on the same page as him on the subject of their independence. He wanted their independence no matter the cost. He was willing to go to war. The point of his speech was to have the Virginians on his side about starting to rise against their mother land and begin a revolt against Britain s King George III. His famous words Give me liberty or give me death! brought on an emotional appeal to the colonists which showed that Henry s call to action worked. Another way he affected the listeners on an emotional level was that he pointed out how the British people made them into slaves for their own benefit. He wanted his fellow Virginians to open their eyes to the reality of what is going on and not just pretend it is not happening. He was telling them not to trust the British and their petitions or the acceptance of one. If they did not rise up against the British, they would stay servants to them. How did he justify his desire? Desire is needed in order to grab the audience s attention. His desire can be seen and heard throughout his speech. Henry was a leader in Virginia and the other colonies and was known for speaking out and resisting the English rule. This is a way to show how his desires were justified. He grabbed their attention by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Elizabeth Gaskell s North And South In Elizabeth Gaskell s North and South, the simmering tension between the striking mill workers of Milton and their employer John Thornton come to a head in Chapter 22 A Blow and its Consequences . The millhands, enraged at Thornton s hiring of Irish workers while they are on strike, descend in a mob upon Thornton s mill and home. This chapter is also pivotal in the relationship between Thornton and the novel s principal character Margaret Hale. In the novel, Gaskell parallels the conflict between Thornton and his workers with the conflict between Thornton and Margaret. Both relationships erupt in this chapter leading to consequences throughout the rest of the novel. Gaskell establishes the tension in this chapter by using imagery and ... While it may be partly because she has risked her respectable reputation in her attempt to protect Thornton, her desire not to think of the overheard conversation, as well as her cringing from Jane shrinking from her inspection (p218) suggests her motive for her action may have something to do with burgeoning romantic feelings for Thornton that she is unable to ... • 12. New Football Stadium Of Las Vegas New football stadium coming to Las Vegas Excitement has engulfed Nevada following the news that a new stadium could soon grace the world famous Las Vegas Strip. On August 26, The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that a 62 acre piece of land belonging to a consortium of banks from New York and Dallas was favored as the venue to host the $1.9 billion, 62,000 sitter Raiders football arena. The banking consortium operating under the Nevada Land Group LLC includes Credit Suisse Management, Barclays Bank, NexBank, and Highland Capital Management. The much sought swathes of land lie west of Mandalay bay and Interstate 15. The cost of land, and undisclosed site infrastructure is expected to cost between $350 million to $400 million. The deal, whose details are yet to be fully revealed, is a partnership between Raiders Football Team, Las Vegas Sands Corporation and the state of Nevada. Western Versus Indigenous use of Psilocybin Another clinical study of psilocybin done at the University of Arizona and led by Francisco Morena, was conducted in 2007 to evaluate the effects of psilocybin on the symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder in nine subjects. The researchers addressed two questions: does oral ingestion of psilocybin lead to an acute decrease in OCD symptoms and is what dose is required to demonstrate significant reduction in symptoms. The results revealed that when administered in a supportive clinical environment, psilocybin was safe and well tolerated. The psilocybin was associated with transient symptomatic reduction of OCD symptoms in subjects with treatment resistance OCD ( ). Although there is an understanding of the psychedelic mechanism of action of psilocybin, it s not clear exactly which receptors and pathways are involved in mediating the anti obsessional responses. The intent of the study was not to conduct psychedelic facilitated therapy, however five of the subjects readily described their experiences as very psychologically and spiritually enriching and four of the subjects reported profound positive transcendental experiences such as exploration of other planets, visiting past life reincarnations and interacting with deities. The results also showed most subjects reporting symptom reduction experiences a period of relief that extending far beyond the session. • 15. Pros And Cons Of Confederate Statues Gersh Kentzman in the New York Daily News gave the reasonable and understandable reason of why the federate statues should be removed. He asked why there are no statues of Adolf Hitler in Berlin. Usually, the statues are to honor people who did something good to their country; someone who put his life in danger to save his country. Statues also are to honor people s service to the country. The Confederate statues are for people who divided the country and separated citizens according to their skin colors or their social classes. These confederate statues and monuments should be removed because those people did not do anything to build the country. The Confederate statues can easily remind the victims of civil war or slavery what they went through and how they were treated. Thus causes conflicts between them and those who made them went through what they went through. Mayor Landrew, who removed the statue of General Robert E. • 16. Contemplative Importance The Importance of Contemplative Practices in an Academic Environment (pt. 1) Contemplative practices can take several forms, including meditation, prayers, and certain physical exercises such as yoga. Before taking Education in the USA, I had spent very little time participating in these practices except for the occasional yoga session my former tennis coach would instruct me to attend. However, these were cases of me superficially participating in that practice. Since participating in our Wednesday discussions which include a 5 to 10 minute period of meditation, the what s present/what are we experiencing? exercises, and occasionally, the placement of different objects and words in the center of the room I have become increasingly aware of the importance of these practices in relation to both the material we are covering in lectures as well as our individual beings. In my opinion, the respective purposes of these different contemplative practices have been to cultivate a sense of mental calmness while taking a break from our busy lives, identify the importance of fully embracing the present moment, and expose us to different viewpoints and reactions regarding certain topics, ultimately forcing us to think critically and respond constructively to them. The meditation portion of our Wednesday discussions allows us to take a step away from the rigorous classwork and constant worrying about due dates by instead focusing solely on our breathing. Also, peasant women changed their lifestyle by being treated more equally as men who were at the same social level. During the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, Jude and his other brothers openly expressed doubt in the divinity of Jesus (John 7:3 8), but Jude did eventually became a believer after Jesus death on the cross (Acts 1:14). The epistle of Jude is written to a general audience of Christians, who are called beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ (v. 1). Jude begins by saying that He had planned to write about common salvation, but there were more pressing matters that he had to attend to. Jude s self professed purpose for writing his epistle is to rally his readers to contend for the faith against false teachers who might draw believers away from the truth (v. 3). Jude s method is twofold; he identifies the false teachers who have infiltrated the church, and he urges the church not to be swayed into apostasy by their blasphemous teachings. First and foremost, it is important to accurately determine a timeframe in which Jude was written. Jude s discussion of the false teachers in verses 4 18 closely resembles 2 Peter 2:1 3:4, and many scholars argue that Peter s second epistle predates Jude for a number of reasons. The first of these reasons is Peter s anticipation of false teachers to come (2 Pet. 2:1 2, 3:3), which chronologically speaking comes before the arrival of the false teachers, which Jude vv. 4, 11 12, 17 18 deals with. You know what I can do to you if you open your trap?...you keep your place, Nigger. I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ain t even funny (Steinbeck, 79). This moment of cruelty shows that Curley s wife has been corrupted by the evil of the world. She hurts those who are lower than her on the social hierarchy because she believes doing so will make people respect her. This shows that she is deeply insecure of her place in the world. The reader comes to hate Curley s wife, until they learn more about her life. She monologues about her dreams of becoming an actress before she dies, but her death is optimistic and bitter sweet. The author states, ... the meanness and the plannings and the discontent and the ache for attention were all gone from her face. She was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Analyzing Winckler s Family Guy The analysis of the first episode of Family Guy is important in that, as Winckler puts it, the pilot of any series is representative of the whole program (44). The general atmosphere, the characters introduced, and a few catchphrases set the tone of the sitcom. Some cutaway gags appear, cultural references are made and a few borderline jokes are told, thus categorizing the show as an adult series. The pilot truly embodies these characteristics that will remain the hallmarks of the show. In the case of Family Guy, the airing time also played a key role in the success of the sitcom, as the pilot was first broadcast right after Super Bowl XXXIII. The plot was highly inspired by MacFarlane s final university project called The Life of Larry, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first cutaway takes place at church, where the priest talks about the story of Job. The French version inexplicably calls Job Joe , even though his story and other Bible references are well known in French culture. God is seen being embarrassed by the story, a gag that works in both languages quite well. When the priest tells Peter that the communion wine is indeed the blood of the Christ, Peter says that Jesus must have been wasted 24 hours a day ; the adaptors changed the sentence, possibly out of fear of offending viewers, to On peut me faire des transfusions tous les jours ou c est trop demander? . The effect it has is similar but the original does surprisingly not emphasize much Peter s alcoholism. In the next memory, Peter is seen eating some buttered rum ice cream. In French, the ice cream flavor is changed to rhum raisin , a different one yet equivalent in alcoholic effect. In the final cutaway, the family is seen watching Philadelphia at the movie theater. After a while, Peter recognizes Tom Hanks from the comedy Big and thus laughs at everything the actor says, including his confessing that he has AIDS. The joke successfully transfers to French since Tom Hanks and his filmography are famous in French culture, and the fact that Peter would laugh at such a serious matter categorizes him as ...
