Data Analysis And Data Processes
Data Transformation are often very complex and is the most costly section of the ETL process.
Transformations are often achieved outside the database using flat files, but mostly occurs within
an Oracle database. The transform step applies rules or functions to the extracted data. These rules
or functions will decide on the analysis of data and can involve transformations like the following:
Data Summations
Data Merging
Data Encoding
Data Splitting
Data Calculations
Creating Surrogate Keys
Data Aggregation
When transformed, the data is clean, accurate, consistent and ready for analysis by the data
warehouse users.
Data can be transformed in two ways:
Multistage Data Transformation
Pipelined Data Transformation

Most of the tasks are completed outside the database, for example step 1 to 4 as shown in figure 6
below and then is inserted into the warehouse table.

2.2.2 Cleansing Data
Data cleansing is the process of removing incorrect, inappropriate and duplicate data. It can also
be called data cleaning or data scrubbing. Not cleansing the data will lead to inaccurate and
unreliable results. During the process of cleansing data, if dirty data is detected, it will have to be
modified and will therefore cause delays within the process. Dirty data can be caused by the
following:
Members of an organization are poorly trained and will therefore enter data erroneously.
Inaccurate system configuration rules are applied.
Regular data updates are neglected.
Inconsistent or lack of validation rules.
Duplicates are not removed.
Data cleansing can be performed within single or multiple sets of data. Usually problems within
single data sets are due to misspellings when entering data of that they have left out missing
information when inputting. When problems occur within multiple data sets e.g. in a data
warehouse, the need to cleanse data increases greatly. This is because the data is more than likely
to have redundant data from different sources, and will therefore have to make sure all

Designer Babies Genetics
Until a few years ago having a baby boy or a baby girl was just complete chance. Not anymore.
Now parents have the option to decide on the gender of their future baby, along with many other
genetic traits, such as eye colour, hair colour, intelligence, athletic ability and even skin tone.
Designer babies can also be made for medical reasons, by changing the genetics of a baby,
diseases such as down syndrome and turner syndrome can be prevented. A designer baby can also
be made with identical tissue to be donated to a sick sibling in need.
Before researchers were able to find a way to make this possible, they first had to understand more
about genetics. Genetics explains the process of parents passing down genes to their children,
these genes are things like hair colour, eye colour and genetic disorders. Every human has 23 pairs
of chromosomes, 43 individual, and within them is where the genes are carried, each chromosome
holds about 20,000 genes.
A chromosome is made up of genes, which is sort sections of DNA (Deoxynucleic acid) . Within
the genes, there are alleles, which are different forms of a gene. For example the gene for eye colour
has an allele for blue eyes and an allele for green eyes. Alleles can be either dominant or recessive.
The characteristic controlled by a dominant allele develops if the allele exists ... Show more content

Illicit Drug Trafficking
Role of social network structure in illicit drug trafficking in Columbia
By Preeti Kanther Over the past three decades, the US has spent more than a trillion dollars to
curtail drug industry operations in Latin America. During 1980s, Peru, Bolivia and Columbia used
to contribute 65%, 25% and 10% toward the overall coca production globally. Since then, due to
many US funded war efforts on drugs in these neighboring Andean countries, drug industry in
Columbia got a tremendous boost, increasing its market share to 90% and making it the world s
largest cocaine producer ever by 2000. Between 2000 and 2010, US invested close to $7.3bn on
military and economic aid to eradicate coca production and cocaine trafficking. The project ... Show

It s hard to understand the direction of information flow or where the authority resides in a
network which is flexible and constantly changing, which makes it harder for law enforcements to
devise any strategic moves and predict the outcome. The network structure seemed to be really
dense in the core with a lot of small organizations representing as closures3 which are tied to each
other through brokers or middlemen making hefty profits in between by providing services through
constant access of new information. The strength of intra network operations lies in the hands of
these brokers. They could be very well characterized as connectors4. Think of the network structure
as really dense in the core and spreading outwards on the periphery through weak ties. The weak
ties enable the network to expand and contract itself depending on the market situation. 5 The core
members treat each other with high degree of trust and belongingness, making it extremely hard for
any outsider or law enforcement people to tap into the network and access any information about
their operations. It took almost four decades for the network to come

Animal Testing Is Not All Humane And Pain Free
An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the united states for scientific and
commercial testing (ProCon.org). We are rapidly using up the earth s supply of small animals. A
2011 poll of nearly 1,000 biomedical scientists conducted by the science journal Nature found that
more than 90% agreed that the use of animals in research is essential (ProCon.org). Right now,
millions of mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked up in cages and are getting
killed for scientific tests to create products and medicines. Thus, animal testingis cruel and
inhumane to be experimenting on animals, there are alternative methods available to researchers to
replace animal testing, and that animals are so different from human beings that research on
animals often yields irrelevant results.
First, Animals used for scientific testing is cruel and inhumane because animal s experience
feelings just like humans. What I discovered in my research is that animal testing is not all humane
and pain free as most people think. The US Department of Agriculture reported in 2010 that 97,123
animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief (ProCon.org).
If humans receive anesthesia during surgeries, then so should the animals. These animals undergo
procedures that cause these animals to feel 100% pain. Although animal testing may seem
environmentally friendly, animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, and the

The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management
The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few
centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with
its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to
standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it
further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many
researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the
Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s
relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969).
Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups
instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers
prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa,
2013).
According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in
all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even
avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation
dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still
earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto,

Canadian Identity Stereotypes
Letting Others Define Us
Canadian identity is defined as how Canadians differ from the rest of the world and the
uniqueness of Canadian life. Today, Canada has a variety of stereotypes foreigners associate with
Canada and essentially, Canadian identity is defined based on how others perceive us. Some of the
critical ideas that foreigners typically associate Canada are universal healthcare, multiculturalism,
and peace. All three of these stereotypes based off foreigners impressions of Canada help define
Canadian identity. However, these stereotypes do not appear out of thin air, instead, they come
from historical events. The Citizenship Act, UN Peacekeeping Mission during the Suez Crisis, and
the Medical Care Act all contributed in the construction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It simply provided an easy way to define the lives of people living in Canada as Canadian citizens.
The Citizenship Act of 1947 allowed citizens to become subjects of Canada rather than subjects of
Britain. It allowed anyone of any racial or ethnic background to apply for citizenship, free of
discrimination. It was meant to create a sense of unity among Canadians while relieving racial or
ethnic tensions. This was significant in defining not only Canadian citizens, but also led to Canada
s multicultural society and the Multiculturalism Act in 1971. From a foreigners perspective, this act
was perceived as an attempt of removing discrimination and racism in Canada. Due to these anti
discriminatory rules of the act, foreigners inferred that Canada was starting to minimize and remove
racial discrimination to allow everyone to be a Canadian citizen. In simplified terms, Canada
wanted to promote multiculturalism instead of discriminating against everyone who was not
British. Thus, foreigners defined multiculturalism as a part of Canadian identity. This aspect of
national identity only strengthened with time as more and more events promoted multiculturalism
for Canada to become the multicultural country today. In addition, it is seen today that many
immigrants choose to come to Canada due to the culturally diverse, welcoming society here. This
further proves that foreigners believe that multiculturalism is a big part of Canada, defining its
national identity. In summary, the Citizenship Act marked the beginning of multiculturalism in
Canada and sparked more events promoting multiculturalism. This resulted in foreigners defining a
stereotype of multiculturalism as an important aspect of Canada s national identity

Essay on Military Draft
Military Draft
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the United States military now maintains a force of
around 1.4 million active duty personnel. In times of relative peace, this is sufficient to protect U.S.
interests at home and abroad. But when the United States engages in a larger scale operation, the
military may need to call up reserve forces. In a major conflict, the United States may even institute
the draft, drawing soldiers from the general civilian population.
The idea of a military draft, also called conscription, has been around in one form or another since
ancient times. In its relatively short history, the United States has implemented a number of
different conscription systems to fill its military ranks in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A few select groups of men are also excused automatically. These groups include: men who are
actively serving in the military, men who are attending a military service academy or select
university military officer procurement program, foreign citizens in the United States on valid
student, visitor or diplomatic visas, certain foreign agricultural workers, men who are confined to a
hospital or psychiatric institution, handicapped men who cannot function in public, and inmates.
All other men between 18 and 25 are legally required to register with the SSS within 30 days of
reaching eligibility. Men can register via mail, over the Internet, at the post office or with a high
school Selective Service Registrar. The SSS keeps the names and addresses of all registered
men on file so they can be called up easily if the draft is reinstated. Most U.S. citizens become
eligible on their 18th birthday; others become eligible the day they are no longer exempt (the day
they drop out of a military academy, for example). Eligible aliens are required to register within 30
days of entering the country.
The government may prosecute a potential draftee who does not register with the SSS. If
convicted, the man would face up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000. Today, the
government is unlikely to take such extreme action. Instead, it encourages registration by
withholding government benefits from potential draftees in violation. This includes federal
financial aid for

Satire In A Modest Proposal
The Era of Hard Feelings Satire has been a common theme throughout modern culture, varying
from media, to a person s everyday demeanor or personality. Satire is defined as a way of using
humor to show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, or the weakness and bad
qualities of a person, government, and/or society (Webster s). It has become a natural occurrence
in America s way of life, even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of
communication called sarcasm. However, satirewas not always widely accepted in popular culture.
It was often shunned or misunderstood as a crude outlook on life. For example, an infamous piece
titled A Modest Proposal used a very large amount of satire throughout the entire essay... Show

This is an extremely satirical idea simply because of the fact that it is ridiculing two types of
people in one sentence. The first, being the Irish Catholics, are made fun of quite obviously. The
innuendo is that, prior to the statement, it is suggested that there is a surplus of papist babies born
nine months after Lent, later supported by calling Catholics the principal breeders (Swift 622).
This is seen as an advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity
and selling more babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second,
more hidden bash of prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that
the number of papists would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the
mindset of an English Protestant just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all
actually is.
The next example of extreme satire is when the author refers to an outside source. Swift goes on to
say that A very worthy person, a true lover of his country, and whose virtues I highly esteem, was
lately pleased in discoursing on this matter to offer a refinement upon my scheme (Swift 621). This
illustrates that another person is willing to support

The Negative Effects of the North American Free Trade...
The Negative Effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement
In January 1994, the United States, Mexico, and Canada implemented the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA), forming the largest free trade zone in the world. The goal of NAFTA
is to create better trading conditions through tariff reduction, removal of investment barriers, and
improvement of intellectual property protection. NAFTA continues to gradually reduce tariffs on
set dates and aims to eliminate all tariffs by the year 2004. Before NAFTA was established,
investing in Mexico was a difficult process. Investors needed the Mexican Government s approval
and were also required to meet specific investment guidelines. These requirements necessitated ...

This extensive growth is accredited primarily to the reduction of tariffs. As tariffs were lowered,
U.S. goods became cheaper and more competitive in Mexican and Canadian markets, and at this
lower price level the quantity demanded of U.S. goods increased. Therefore it becomes less
expensive for U.S. firms to supply goods to Canada and Mexico as the supply curve shifts
upward. In order to meet the new demand, the firms must hire new workers and increase
investment. Between 1994 and 1997, 90 to 160 thousand jobs were created in the U.S. due to the
increase of trade with Mexico, and 2.4 million jobs were dependent upon trade with Mexico and
Canada (Harbrecht 12).
The increase in employment and investment then leads to increased national income. The work
of NAFTA has also served to benefit Mexico s economy; in accordance with the United States
economy, Mexico s exports have increased, more than doubling since 1993. The elimination of
investment barriers has caused a dramatic rise in foreign investment from four billion in 1993 to
ten billion dollars in 1998. NAFTA has enabled Volkswagen, IBM, and the textile industry to seek
labor and materials in Mexico. In 1994, a Canada based entrepreneur invested four million dollars
in a metal stamping plant. The plant is now a major material suppler for Volkswagen although it
was originally intended to employ only 130 people. The plant currently employs 1,300 workers
and generates 57 million dollars in

How Academic Pressures Can Be Detrimental For...
As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal
learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our
current philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that
our original question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various
elements of our original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current
educational system value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional
wellbeing? We discussed what we as individuals believe the Purpose of Educationencompasses.
There was a general consensus that education needs to include elements of academia, however,
some members saw the value of an informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth
dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead us to the notions of informal and formal education, where
everyone drew upon their prior experiences. Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that
an efficacious education needs to be both formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on
the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists: Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Girouxand
Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our question is philosophical, because it can be supported by
empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic
questioning and further discussion. This philosophical question is

In this way, he created harmony in the Yoruba world of gods and humans.
In order to keep balance and harmony in Yoruba world, some pre eminent people, usually leaders
or rulers have to sacrifice themselves on behalf of the community. This notion is reflected in
Death and the King s Horseman; Elesin Oba, the King s Horseman, who has been extremely
honoured as a great chief as well as the King s close friend, has to join the dead king in his
journey to the world of the ancestors; by so doing, he brings the world of gods and ancestors
closer to that of the living. Consequently, he maintains balance and harmony in the Yoruba world
and thus makes for its well being. Elesin adopts all Yoruba beliefs and has faith in all its values
and duties. He is the embodiment of the culture of his people and as such he has an awful
responsibility. It is quite simply that on him depends the future, on him depends the existence
itself (Bowman 89). Elesin has to play the heroic role played by Ogun in order to bridge the gap
between man and the gods. He has to cross the dangerous abyss between the world of the living
and that of the ancestors but this demands a strong will as that of Ogun. Elesin has the desire to
make this journey but his attachment to worldly pleasures damages his will; his love of women
comes in the way of fulfilling his sacred duty.

Legion of Cyber Crime
Black hat, grey hay, white hat, all terms to identify different classes or cyber criminals, all tied
together under the label of hacker. Whether it is for the greater good or for pure evil, cyber
security seems to be breached every day as the media puts out headlines of major retailers,
governments, and social media sites being broken into for personal information, mockery, or even
to instigate real physical war. The recent surge of technological advances has brought attention to a
deadly force once overlooked by all, the hackers. These individuals commit cyber crimes because
they can retain anonymity, it is easier and less dangerous than a physical crime, and it makes it easy
to draw attention on whatever it is they are attacking, which is why we as a society need to be
educated on their motives and means of attack to protect us from their criminal actions. Criminals
seem to be evolving at a quicker rate than technology, learning lessons from past criminals being
caught and/or killed and adapting to the changing smart society.
Millennials always hear from their parents to be wary of what they post online because it stays
there forever, but the hackers of today laugh at that and are virtually invisible in any crimes they
choose to commit. They are able to keep their anonymity through data encryption, computer
zombification, and deep web browsers. Data encryption is one basic tool used by

Analysis Of mericans By Sandra Cisneros
ВґMericans by Sandra Cisneros was a very straight forward literary work. The reader gets a
strong sense of the setting in the first few lines of the story when Cisneros begins to use Spanish
words and phrases. Just by reading the Spanish words, images, smells, and feelings come to a
readers mind. For example, when I read Spanish words I think of warmth, cinnamon, and chili
peppers. Also, based on the title of the text and the first few sentances I deduced that the story
would be about an Americanized Mexican family, and therefore began to think of the conflicts
that could result within this family. This made me curious and drew me into the text. In the first
paragraph of the story, a classic church scene is described establishing the location of the setting.
As the story continues, readers get the impression that the family does not have very much money
because of the way the different characters are described and because the narrator says, We can
not spend our allowance on fried cookies or Familia Burron comic books or those clear cone
shaped suckers. These are all items that do not cost much money and therefore, readers assume that
the children receive a very small allowance. Readers get an even stronger sense of the setting of the
inside of the church when the author states that the grandmother disappeared behind the heavy
leather outer curtain and the dusty velvet inner . Readers begin to understand that the narrator
views the church as a gloomy, old, stale place,

Harley Davidson, An American Motorcycle Manufacturer
Harley Davidson, Inc. (H D), or Harley, is an American motorcycle manufacturer, founded in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903. It was formed by William S. Harley and his childhood friend

In 1901, 20 year old William S. Harley had plans to manufacture a motorcycle and he designed a
small engine that could be easily get fitted into the paddle bicycle. But the drawback of that was it
couldn t climb up the hill in Milwaukee. So they thought to come up with a bigger engine and this

Brutus Was The Noblest Roman Of Them All
This was the noblest Roman of them all . This quote was said by Antony, one of the characters in
the play Julius Caesar. This quote was said about Brutus, friend of both Mark Antony and Caesar. I
believe Brutus was the noblest of them all because not only was he highly respected in the very
beginning of the play, but because he was honest in his thoughts and actions.
Brutus is considered the noblest of them all because of a few reasons. One of the reasons is that
he was very reluctant to kill Caesar. Brutus was the only person out of the group, which included,
Cassius, and Casca who did not envy Caesar. Brutus did not have a vendetta against Caesar. The
only reason why Brutus chose to aid in the murder of Julius Caesar was because he thought it was

Fish Odor Syndrome Research Paper
Francisco Quintana 902 Biology 3/21/16 Shah Fish Odor Syndrome Fish odor syndrome or
trimethylaminuria is a genetic disorder that affects the body s ability to break down a chemical
in our body called trimethylamine. If unable to break down the order, which is what this
disorder does, it releases a disgusting and strong odor. This has been described as rotting fish,
rotting eggs, garbage, or urine. Since the body can t break it down, it s stored and is released in
sweat, urine, and breath. As this syndrome is affected with a certain gene, the name of it is
FMO3. This enzyme converts this foul food odor stored and made from the stomach to a odorless
gas, yet if a mutation occurs in the gen, it builds up in a

The Complications Of Kidney Failure
The Complications of Kidney Failure and How Hemodialysis Works to Fix Them
Katie Sullivan
Professor Manny Rodriguez

Kidney Dialysis
Kidney failure is deadly disease if not treated immediately.
When functioning normally, the kidneys clean the blood of waste and other fluids, but when they
fail the kidneys can t clean it. This is where kidney dialysis comes in.
Kidney dialysis is the method that is used to clean the blood of waste and other fluids.
Dialysis is often a last resort for people that are undergoing kidney failure.
Possible Complications of Kidney Failure
Anemia and Erythropoietin (EPO)
Erythropoietin is produced by the kidneys and is the hormone that regulates the production of red
blood cells. The kidneys don t make enough erythropoietin, so there are fewer blood cells, which
can lead to anemia.
Renal Osteodystrophy
Since the kidneys can t regulate the proper chemical levels in the blood during kidney failure, the
bones don t get enough calcium and other chemicals to keep them strong.
Hyperkalemia
When the kidneys fail, it runs the risk of high levels of potassium, which can influence many
factors that are dangerous.
Uremic Acidosis
In kidney failure, toxic waste can build up in the blood, which normally the kidneys would absorb
and then filter out if they were functioning normally.
Functions of the Kidneys and an Overview of Hemodialysis
The kidneys are responsible for removing waste and

Blade Runner And Post-Modernism
As Gojira (1954) directly involves with a real political subject of atomic bombs, and conveys the
political ideology by creating a fictional monster, Blade Runner (1982) discusses an issue of post
modernism and attacks post modernist ideology by setting the location in a fictional and
imaginative world (Dienstag 2015; Williams 1988). The environment of Blade Runneris a dystopic
world by where the audiences observe the political implication of Blade Runner society and the
exhaustion of modern ideologies. In Blade Runner, the replicants are a form of living mirror of
ourselves. In the opening scene of Blade Runner, the audiences see a close up of an eye reflecting
the incredible landscape of the city. The eye motif recurs throughout the film, and argues that the
image of eye plays an important role in the story: the Voight Kampf test eliciting an emotional
response to identify whether an entity is a human or a replicant; the replicants searching a way to
the Tyrell Corporationand interrogating an engineer of replicants, Tyrell; and the leader of
replicants, playing with artificial eyes when becoming a friend with the genetic designer and, takes
out the eyes of Tyrell when he was informed that his life cannot be extended (Dienstag 2015). By
recurring the eye motifs, Blade Runner may encourage to view that the replicant signifies a
physical exchange of views between two live entities (Dienstag 2015; Williams 1988). This may
suggest the audiences that replicants are no

The Characteristics Of Cora As A Femme Fatale
1. My definition of a good feminist is someone who fights equality between genders in society
(entertainment, the workforce, socially, and etc.). I believe the femme fatale character does
celebrate a women s agency by placing women into less traditional roles. Before this type of
character became popular, women in movies were portrayed as being feeble and not significant to
the plot. Thus, the introduction of the fatal women archetype offered women the opportunity to
prove that they can be more than a damsel in distress who needs to be saved by the male hero. This
archetype allowed women to be portrayed somewhat equally to men in movies. Women were
allowed to be dangerous, cunning, intelligent, and in control of the situation. Thus, the... Show more

In the first, plot (bath tub drowning) if it went successfully Frank would have been the primary
suspect as the police officer spotted him at the scene shortly before the attempted murder. Also, the
fake car crash complicated Frank s life even more because he was now the one responsible for
killing Nick with the wrench.
Third, in chapter 5 Cora decided to go back to her husband after traveling a quarter of a mile out
of town with Frank. I believe that Cora decided that Frank was no longer useful in helping her
achieve her goal of independence (Cain, 1992, pg. 42).
Lastly, Cora turned on Frank when she wrote a full confession in an attempt to save herself from
prosecution. This is representative of a femme fatale because they always try to pin the crime on
someone else while getting away scot free.
3. Just like Cora, Matty Walker from the film Body Heat (1981) is an attractive femme fatale
character. Both use their seductive powers to trap unsuspecting men in their murderous plots. In
both cases the men think they are in control, but the audience could not disagree more. Also, both
characters use emotion to convince men to go along with the murders. They, make the men feel
sorry for them and their situation using emotion and character assassination (my husband is a bad

News Media Bias Case Study
Objectivity has become a defining component of the news media. Although this request is quite
precarious given the business model of companies that disseminate news, objectivity remains a
professional standard of journalism and reporting that the public is highly aware of. Identifying and
analyzing media bias is an extremely complex task that not many people engage in. The public
often criticizes the news mediafor trying to advance certain viewpoints or being advocates of
political positions. In other words, many people wish the news media was less biased and more
objective. Evaluating four news sources, CBS This Morning, ABC7 News, NBC News, and CNN
on their coverage of the implementation of a curfew in Baltimore following the Baltimore protests,

Perhaps the chosen topic didn t elicit itself to ideological stances as a topic regarding a 2016
presidential candidate would have. Regardless of ideological bias, certain news frames were
present that helped to categorize protesters as either overwhelmingly violent or peaceful. While
each news source mentioned the looting and violence that erupted directly after Gray s funeral
on Monday, only two sources focused on the peaceful protests that occurred on Tuesday. The
curfew was interpreted as a conflict and standoff by ABC7 News and CNN News, but also as an
event with minor dissidence by CBS This Morning and NBC News. The coverage of the
Baltimore curfew varied in its sensationalism of conflict and violence, but not ideologically. Why
do so many Americans believe that their news sources contain ideological bias? As mentioned in
the explanation of President Obama s quote in the analysis of the CNN News article, studies of
hostile media effect have found that individuals who have strong opinions about an issue or
close ties to a social group (i.e., partisans) that is the focus of a controversy will be highly
unlikely to perceive any story about that issue or group as credible (Arpan Peterson 311). While

It executes Bataille s need to express through his writings what could not be contained by the
cultural system within which he lived and worked, and it expresses his need to recognize the

the world. Thus rather than dismiss this text as juvenile or adolescent writing, readers should be
aware of it as an early declaration of identity formation, one affected by actual events in his life and,

In Bataille s profession of librarianship, cataloging or classification of material becomes obsessive

Arrian is also quick to criticise Alexander when it is deserved, this is indicated by the disgust that
he felt at the servile behaviour that Alexander allowed many of his followers to indulge in. This not
only indicates how impartial and genuine Arrian is also greatly strengthens the reliability his
opinion, in turn helping to justify the praise he adorns upon Alexander. In comparison to the other
four surviving sources on Alexander, it is easy to understand why Arrian s is considered the most
accurate. Plutarch, like Arrian portrays Alexander in a favourable light, however, some of it verges
on the romantic, thus dismissing it as bias. Justin s work is widely regarded as unreliable and
Curtius is also considered somewhat suspect. Although Diodorus contains valuable material, his
dates are confused and his geography is inaccurate, thus respectively making Arrian s the most
effective account of Arrian s expeditions
The origins of Alexander s excellent skills as a leader can be traced right back to his impressive
upbringing. Sharing many of his father s traits, it is obvious that Philip bestowed upon Alexander a
phenomenal personal courage, a sharpness in decision making, intellectual perception and firm
leadership skills all of which aid in verifying Arrian s appraisal of Alexander s leadership.

that she knows what s best for him, and to make sure he experiences some feelings of fear, so he

moves into building an authoritative appeal by reminding her son she was the one who sent him

Foils in Othello
The Foils of Othello One of William Shakespeare s many attributes as a playwright of the late 16th
century was his character development. Shakespeare s seamless use of indirect characterization sets
his works apart from the other playwrights and authors of his time. In Othello, the Shakespearian
tragedy about the newlywed Othelloand Desdemona, Shakespeare uses character foils to emphasize
the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. By making inwardly similar characters seem like
polar opposites, Shakespeare truly shows how dynamic each of the characters is. Othello, the play s
protagonist, is the most dynamic character of them all due to the fact that he is a complete foil of
himself by the final act of the play. In the second act... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Iago and Desdemona rarely interact throughout the play there are used to show how evil
or good the other is.
Desdemona was also a foil to the person she interacted with the most in the play; her husband,
Othello. Othello and his newlywed Desdemona become opposites toward the end of the play.
The main couple of the play is very different from each other which is easily seen by the
audience because of how they interact with one another. Othello was filled with hate for
Desdemona because he believed she had cuckolded him, and Desdemona never stopped loving
him even though he accused her of things she did not do. Desdemona asks Emilia That there be
women do abuse their husbands In such gross kind? (4.3) showing how truly innocent she is and
when Emilia asks if she would cheat on Othello she is appalled at the idea. Desdemona would
never cheat on the husband she works tirelessly to please. In this instance Desdemona does not
only prove her innocence, but she also shows that she is virtually incorruptible making her
different from her easily corruptible Othello. Iago only had to show Othello a little evidence for
him to become corrupted with jealousy. It was not Othello s fault that he was corruptible, but he
was very quick to build hate for his wife, but slow to believe her pleas of innocence. The reason
for this is related to the time in which the story

Advantages Of Langston Hughes
1. The African American Dream: Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be.
(Hughes, New Song 9) According to the Declaration of Independence proclaimed in 1776 the
democracy of the United States rests upon the fundamentals of freedom, equality and the pursuit of
happiness. Imparting the precept that all men are created equal , the American Dream emerges.
Often being described as a national ethos, it is spreading the belief that anyone has the opportunity
for prosperity and success, regardless of race or social class. The Emancipation Proclamation of
1863 emphasises these beliefs and promises everlasting freedom. Despite the official equalisation,
especially African Americans could not avail themselves of their rights, still facing severe
restrictions and isolation in everyday life. At the beginning of the 20th century the desire for
freedom and self representation among the African American community grows and culminates in
the Harlem Renaissancea cultural and intellectual movement, celebrating the African origin and

A Window Of Your Dreams
A Window To Your Dreams
In J.M. Barrie s classic children s story Peter Pan, a young boy named Peter takes three children
on the adventure of their dreams in a faraway place called Neverland. The story, revolving
around how all children, except one, grow up (1) takes the reader back to mindsets of children
and their elaborate fantasies that might actually be true if they could only remember. With sword
fights between pirates, fairy dust, flying away from home right out the window and death being
only an awfully big adventure (113), not many can see how they would ever forget such a place,
but by keeping their windows open and unlocked, any child can enter Neverland through their
dreams. Barrie s use of the window isn t simply an entrance or exit way for Peter, it represents
the blurred line between a child s dreams and reality, how the trust of a mother s love can be the
best form of hope, and how every child should cherish their years of youth and innocence when
they can fly to Neverland and not be brought down by age.
According to Barrie s Peter Pan, every child s mind flies into their own personal Neverland at
night, and sometimes, the lands can be breached when a window is open. Children have a way
to keep this window open for the possibility of their dreams to come true, while adult s windows
are kept shut due to age and therefore, losing the ability to travel to their Neverland. Every child s
mind has access to a map consisting of zigzag lines...probably roads in

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Lady With The Dog
For Goodness Sake, Have Faith in Humanity
Humans have a natural ability to know what is right and just and what is wrong. However, people
are tempted on a regular basis, and often times people choose to go against what is right for what
they want at the moment. Nathaniel Hawthorne describes the struggle of one man with his personal
temptations in the short story, Young Goodman Brown. Through a trip into the woods on a dark,

Goodman Brown (YGB) is tempted by the devil throughout the story to remind the reader what
is feeding the lie to him. The dark one is an allegory to the devil, dressed darkly with a serpent

dark one tells him that it is okay to go into the woods because his father and grandfather both did
before him. This statement by the traveller begins a whirlwind of a mixture of lie and truth,
confusing Young Goodman Brown. While he is tempted with the concept of everybody s doing it,

  • 2. Data Analysis And Data Processes Data Transformation are often very complex and is the most costly section of the ETL process. Transformations are often achieved outside the database using flat files, but mostly occurs within an Oracle database. The transform step applies rules or functions to the extracted data. These rules or functions will decide on the analysis of data and can involve transformations like the following: Data Summations Data Merging Data Encoding Data Splitting Data Calculations Creating Surrogate Keys Data Aggregation When transformed, the data is clean, accurate, consistent and ready for analysis by the data warehouse users. Data can be transformed in two ways: Multistage Data Transformation Pipelined Data Transformation The most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the tasks are completed outside the database, for example step 1 to 4 as shown in figure 6 below and then is inserted into the warehouse table. FIGURE 6: PIPELINED DATA TRANSFORMATION 2.2.2 Cleansing Data Data cleansing is the process of removing incorrect, inappropriate and duplicate data. It can also be called data cleaning or data scrubbing. Not cleansing the data will lead to inaccurate and unreliable results. During the process of cleansing data, if dirty data is detected, it will have to be modified and will therefore cause delays within the process. Dirty data can be caused by the following: Members of an organization are poorly trained and will therefore enter data erroneously. Inaccurate system configuration rules are applied. Regular data updates are neglected. Inconsistent or lack of validation rules. Duplicates are not removed. Data cleansing can be performed within single or multiple sets of data. Usually problems within single data sets are due to misspellings when entering data of that they have left out missing information when inputting. When problems occur within multiple data sets e.g. in a data warehouse, the need to cleanse data increases greatly. This is because the data is more than likely to have redundant data from different sources, and will therefore have to make sure all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Designer Babies Genetics Until a few years ago having a baby boy or a baby girl was just complete chance. Not anymore. Now parents have the option to decide on the gender of their future baby, along with many other genetic traits, such as eye colour, hair colour, intelligence, athletic ability and even skin tone. Designer babies can also be made for medical reasons, by changing the genetics of a baby, diseases such as down syndrome and turner syndrome can be prevented. A designer baby can also be made with identical tissue to be donated to a sick sibling in need. Before researchers were able to find a way to make this possible, they first had to understand more about genetics. Genetics explains the process of parents passing down genes to their children, these genes are things like hair colour, eye colour and genetic disorders. Every human has 23 pairs of chromosomes, 43 individual, and within them is where the genes are carried, each chromosome holds about 20,000 genes. A chromosome is made up of genes, which is sort sections of DNA (Deoxynucleic acid) . Within the genes, there are alleles, which are different forms of a gene. For example the gene for eye colour has an allele for blue eyes and an allele for green eyes. Alleles can be either dominant or recessive. The characteristic controlled by a dominant allele develops if the allele exists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mitosis produces two cells, identical to each other and the parent cell. • 5. Illicit Drug Trafficking Role of social network structure in illicit drug trafficking in Columbia By Preeti Kanther Over the past three decades, the US has spent more than a trillion dollars to curtail drug industry operations in Latin America. During 1980s, Peru, Bolivia and Columbia used to contribute 65%, 25% and 10% toward the overall coca production globally. Since then, due to many US funded war efforts on drugs in these neighboring Andean countries, drug industry in Columbia got a tremendous boost, increasing its market share to 90% and making it the world s largest cocaine producer ever by 2000. Between 2000 and 2010, US invested close to $7.3bn on military and economic aid to eradicate coca production and cocaine trafficking. The project ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s hard to understand the direction of information flow or where the authority resides in a network which is flexible and constantly changing, which makes it harder for law enforcements to devise any strategic moves and predict the outcome. The network structure seemed to be really dense in the core with a lot of small organizations representing as closures3 which are tied to each other through brokers or middlemen making hefty profits in between by providing services through constant access of new information. The strength of intra network operations lies in the hands of these brokers. They could be very well characterized as connectors4. Think of the network structure as really dense in the core and spreading outwards on the periphery through weak ties. The weak ties enable the network to expand and contract itself depending on the market situation. 5 The core members treat each other with high degree of trust and belongingness, making it extremely hard for any outsider or law enforcement people to tap into the network and access any information about their operations. • 6. Animal Testing Is Not All Humane And Pain Free An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the united states for scientific and commercial testing (ProCon.org). We are rapidly using up the earth s supply of small animals. A 2011 poll of nearly 1,000 biomedical scientists conducted by the science journal Nature found that more than 90% agreed that the use of animals in research is essential (ProCon.org). Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked up in cages and are getting killed for scientific tests to create products and medicines. Thus, animal testingis cruel and inhumane to be experimenting on animals, there are alternative methods available to researchers to replace animal testing, and that animals are so different from human beings that research on animals often yields irrelevant results. First, Animals used for scientific testing is cruel and inhumane because animal s experience feelings just like humans. What I discovered in my research is that animal testing is not all humane and pain free as most people think. The US Department of Agriculture reported in 2010 that 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief (ProCon.org). If humans receive anesthesia during surgeries, then so should the animals. These animals undergo procedures that cause these animals to feel 100% pain. Although animal testing may seem environmentally friendly, animals are subjected to force feeding, food and water deprivation, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969). Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa, 2013). According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto, ... • 8. Canadian Identity Stereotypes Letting Others Define Us Canadian identity is defined as how Canadians differ from the rest of the world and the uniqueness of Canadian life. Today, Canada has a variety of stereotypes foreigners associate with Canada and essentially, Canadian identity is defined based on how others perceive us. Some of the critical ideas that foreigners typically associate Canada are universal healthcare, multiculturalism, and peace. All three of these stereotypes based off foreigners impressions of Canada help define Canadian identity. However, these stereotypes do not appear out of thin air, instead, they come from historical events. The Citizenship Act, UN Peacekeeping Mission during the Suez Crisis, and the Medical Care Act all contributed in the construction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It simply provided an easy way to define the lives of people living in Canada as Canadian citizens. The Citizenship Act of 1947 allowed citizens to become subjects of Canada rather than subjects of Britain. It allowed anyone of any racial or ethnic background to apply for citizenship, free of discrimination. It was meant to create a sense of unity among Canadians while relieving racial or ethnic tensions. This was significant in defining not only Canadian citizens, but also led to Canada s multicultural society and the Multiculturalism Act in 1971. From a foreigners perspective, this act was perceived as an attempt of removing discrimination and racism in Canada. Due to these anti discriminatory rules of the act, foreigners inferred that Canada was starting to minimize and remove racial discrimination to allow everyone to be a Canadian citizen. In simplified terms, Canada wanted to promote multiculturalism instead of discriminating against everyone who was not British. Thus, foreigners defined multiculturalism as a part of Canadian identity. This aspect of national identity only strengthened with time as more and more events promoted multiculturalism for Canada to become the multicultural country today. In addition, it is seen today that many immigrants choose to come to Canada due to the culturally diverse, welcoming society here. This further proves that foreigners believe that multiculturalism is a big part of Canada, defining its national identity. In summary, the Citizenship Act marked the beginning of multiculturalism in Canada and sparked more events promoting multiculturalism. This resulted in foreigners defining a stereotype of multiculturalism as an important aspect of Canada s national identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Essay on Military Draft Military Draft According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the United States military now maintains a force of around 1.4 million active duty personnel. In times of relative peace, this is sufficient to protect U.S. interests at home and abroad. But when the United States engages in a larger scale operation, the military may need to call up reserve forces. In a major conflict, the United States may even institute the draft, drawing soldiers from the general civilian population. All other men between 18 and 25 are legally required to register with the SSS within 30 days of reaching eligibility. Eligible aliens are required to register within 30 days of entering the country. The government may prosecute a potential draftee who does not register with the SSS. If convicted, the man would face up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000. Today, the government is unlikely to take such extreme action. • 10. Satire In A Modest Proposal The Era of Hard Feelings Satire has been a common theme throughout modern culture, varying from media, to a person s everyday demeanor or personality. Satire is defined as a way of using humor to show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, or the weakness and bad qualities of a person, government, and/or society (Webster s). It has become a natural occurrence in America s way of life, even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of communication called sarcasm. However, satirewas not always widely accepted in popular culture. It was often shunned or misunderstood as a crude outlook on life. For example, an infamous piece titled A Modest Proposal used a very large amount of satire throughout the entire essay... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an extremely satirical idea simply because of the fact that it is ridiculing two types of people in one sentence. The first, being the Irish Catholics, are made fun of quite obviously. The innuendo is that, prior to the statement, it is suggested that there is a surplus of papist babies born nine months after Lent, later supported by calling Catholics the principal breeders (Swift 622). This is seen as an advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity and selling more babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second, more hidden bash of prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that the number of papists would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the mindset of an English Protestant just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all actually is. The next example of extreme satire is when the author refers to an outside source. Swift goes on to say that A very worthy person, a true lover of his country, and whose virtues I highly esteem, was lately pleased in discoursing on this matter to offer a refinement upon my scheme (Swift 621). This illustrates that another person is willing to support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Negative Effects of the North American Free Trade Agreement In January 1994, the United States, Mexico, and Canada implemented the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), forming the largest free trade zone in the world. The goal of NAFTA is to create better trading conditions through tariff reduction, removal of investment barriers, and improvement of intellectual property protection. NAFTA continues to gradually reduce tariffs on set dates and aims to eliminate all tariffs by the year 2004. Before NAFTA was established, investing in Mexico was a difficult process. This extensive growth is accredited primarily to the reduction of tariffs. As tariffs were lowered, U.S. goods became cheaper and more competitive in Mexican and Canadian markets, and at this lower price level the quantity demanded of U.S. goods increased. Therefore it becomes less expensive for U.S. firms to supply goods to Canada and Mexico as the supply curve shifts upward. In order to meet the new demand, the firms must hire new workers and increase investment. Between 1994 and 1997, 90 to 160 thousand jobs were created in the U.S. due to the increase of trade with Mexico, and 2.4 million jobs were dependent upon trade with Mexico and Canada (Harbrecht 12). The increase in employment and investment then leads to increased national income. The work of NAFTA has also served to benefit Mexico s economy; in accordance with the United States economy, Mexico s exports have increased, more than doubling since 1993. The elimination of investment barriers has caused a dramatic rise in foreign investment from four billion in 1993 to ten billion dollars in 1998. NAFTA has enabled Volkswagen, IBM, and the textile industry to seek labor and materials in Mexico. In 1994, a Canada based entrepreneur invested four million dollars in a metal stamping plant. • 12. How Academic Pressures Can Be Detrimental For... As Pre service teachers, we agreed that our inquiry should emphasise both formal and informal learning, and how academic pressures can be detrimental for socioemotional wellbeing. Our current philosophical question was not our original question (APPENDIX A), as we realised that our original question was excessively complex and broad. By utilising and reworking various elements of our original question, we formed our current philosophical question: Does our current educational system value academic skills and dispositions at the expense of socioemotional wellbeing? We discussed what we as individuals believe the Purpose of Educationencompasses. There was a general consensus that education needs to include elements of academia, however, some members saw the value of an informal education with a basis of social interaction. In depth dialogue and Socratic questioning, lead us to the notions of informal and formal education, where everyone drew upon their prior experiences. Later, we built upon our understanding, concluding that an efficacious education needs to be both formally and informally situated. We decided to focus on the Humanist and Constructivist Theorists: Confucius, John Dewey, Paulo Freire, Henry Girouxand Maria Montessori (Lewis, 2012). Our question is philosophical, because it can be supported by empirical evidence, it is broad, it is subject to differing opinions, and it promotes Socratic questioning and further discussion. The Third Stage By Wole Soyinka In his essay, The Fourth Stage which helped to establish [his] reputation as a myth critic, a drama theorist and a master of language , Soyinka attempts to investigate the origin of Yoruba tragedy ( Madaukor 8). He is of the view that in Yoruba world view, tragedy originated from gods consciousness of their incompleteness or what he terms the anguish of severance ; [t]he tragedy in Yoruba traditional drama, is the anguish of this severance, the fragmentation of essence from self (Myth 145). In other words, the gods who have become isolated from the world of men are eager for complementary which was lost and balance was destroyed as a result of a curse (19). In order to keep balance and harmony in Yoruba world, some pre eminent people, usually leaders or rulers have to sacrifice themselves on behalf of the community. This notion is reflected in Death and the King s Horseman; Elesin Oba, the King s Horseman, who has been extremely honoured as a great chief as well as the King s close friend, has to join the dead king in his journey to the world of the ancestors; by so doing, he brings the world of gods and ancestors closer to that of the living. Consequently, he maintains balance and harmony in the Yoruba world and thus makes for its well being. Elesin adopts all Yoruba beliefs and has faith in all its values and duties. He is the embodiment of the culture of his people and as such he has an awful responsibility. It is quite simply that on him depends the future, on him depends the existence itself (Bowman 89). Elesin has to play the heroic role played by Ogun in order to bridge the gap between man and the gods. He has to cross the dangerous abyss between the world of the living and that of the ancestors but this demands a strong will as that of Ogun. Elesin has the desire to make this journey but his attachment to worldly pleasures damages his will; his love of women comes in the way of fulfilling his sacred duty. Whether it is for the greater good or for pure evil, cyber security seems to be breached every day as the media puts out headlines of major retailers, governments, and social media sites being broken into for personal information, mockery, or even to instigate real physical war. The recent surge of technological advances has brought attention to a deadly force once overlooked by all, the hackers. These individuals commit cyber crimes because they can retain anonymity, it is easier and less dangerous than a physical crime, and it makes it easy to draw attention on whatever it is they are attacking, which is why we as a society need to be educated on their motives and means of attack to protect us from their criminal actions. Criminals seem to be evolving at a quicker rate than technology, learning lessons from past criminals being caught and/or killed and adapting to the changing smart society. Millennials always hear from their parents to be wary of what they post online because it stays there forever, but the hackers of today laugh at that and are virtually invisible in any crimes they choose to commit. They are able to keep their anonymity through data encryption, computer zombification, and deep web browsers. Data encryption is one basic tool used by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Analysis Of mericans By Sandra Cisneros ВґMericans by Sandra Cisneros was a very straight forward literary work. The reader gets a strong sense of the setting in the first few lines of the story when Cisneros begins to use Spanish words and phrases. Just by reading the Spanish words, images, smells, and feelings come to a readers mind. For example, when I read Spanish words I think of warmth, cinnamon, and chili peppers. Also, based on the title of the text and the first few sentances I deduced that the story would be about an Americanized Mexican family, and therefore began to think of the conflicts that could result within this family. This made me curious and drew me into the text. In the first paragraph of the story, a classic church scene is described establishing the location of the setting. As the story continues, readers get the impression that the family does not have very much money because of the way the different characters are described and because the narrator says, We can not spend our allowance on fried cookies or Familia Burron comic books or those clear cone shaped suckers. These are all items that do not cost much money and therefore, readers assume that the children receive a very small allowance. Readers get an even stronger sense of the setting of the inside of the church when the author states that the grandmother disappeared behind the heavy leather outer curtain and the dusty velvet inner . Readers begin to understand that the narrator views the church as a gloomy, old, stale place, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Complications Of Kidney Failure The Complications of Kidney Failure and How Hemodialysis Works to Fix Them Katie Sullivan Professor Manny Rodriguez CHE102 002 Parkland College April 2, 2015 Kidney Dialysis Kidney failure is deadly disease if not treated immediately. When functioning normally, the kidneys clean the blood of waste and other fluids, but when they fail the kidneys can t clean it. This is where kidney dialysis comes in. Kidney dialysis is the method that is used to clean the blood of waste and other fluids. Dialysis is often a last resort for people that are undergoing kidney failure. Possible Complications of Kidney Failure Anemia and Erythropoietin (EPO) Erythropoietin is produced by the kidneys and is the hormone that regulates the production of red blood cells. The environment of Blade Runneris a dystopic world by where the audiences observe the political implication of Blade Runner society and the exhaustion of modern ideologies. In Blade Runner, the replicants are a form of living mirror of ourselves. In the opening scene of Blade Runner, the audiences see a close up of an eye reflecting the incredible landscape of the city. The eye motif recurs throughout the film, and argues that the image of eye plays an important role in the story: the Voight Kampf test eliciting an emotional response to identify whether an entity is a human or a replicant; the replicants searching a way to the Tyrell Corporationand interrogating an engineer of replicants, Tyrell; and the leader of replicants, playing with artificial eyes when becoming a friend with the genetic designer and, takes out the eyes of Tyrell when he was informed that his life cannot be extended (Dienstag 2015). I believe the femme fatale character does celebrate a women s agency by placing women into less traditional roles. Before this type of character became popular, women in movies were portrayed as being feeble and not significant to the plot. Thus, the introduction of the fatal women archetype offered women the opportunity to prove that they can be more than a damsel in distress who needs to be saved by the male hero. This archetype allowed women to be portrayed somewhat equally to men in movies. Women were allowed to be dangerous, cunning, intelligent, and in control of the situation. Thus, the... But, from the loud silence of the barren land she was lugging herself across by the direction of a boy, she heard a shout from ahead of her. They had finally arrived. Where exactly, Yuki had no clue. Their tour guide eventually led them to a large building covered in rough looking black tarpaper. Yuki then realized they had finally arrived at Barrack 2, where she and her familyand close friends would be living for the rest of their lives. Yuki was hoping it was more colorful on the inside than it was on the outside. But at that moment, she didn t care. The sun was beating down on them, dust was drifting into her respiratory system, causing her to cough constantly, and she was parched. Shriveled as she was, she felt as though her skin could be peeled from the bone. They all walked through the huge door on the side of the building. The feel of air conditioning made everyone there sigh with relief and ignore the fact that they entered their own living hell. The push of cold air was like a punch in the face. Smells were rushing through Yuki s little nose. The scent was pungent; like mold and possibly a dead animal. What apartment were you all assigned to? the guide asked. • 38. Foils in Othello The Foils of Othello One of William Shakespeare s many attributes as a playwright of the late 16th century was his character development. Shakespeare s seamless use of indirect characterization sets his works apart from the other playwrights and authors of his time. In Othello, the Shakespearian tragedy about the newlywed Othelloand Desdemona, Shakespeare uses character foils to emphasize the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. By making inwardly similar characters seem like polar opposites, Shakespeare truly shows how dynamic each of the characters is. Othello, the play s protagonist, is the most dynamic character of them all due to the fact that he is a complete foil of himself by the final act of the play. In the second act... Desdemona was also a foil to the person she interacted with the most in the play; her husband, Othello. Othello and his newlywed Desdemona become opposites toward the end of the play. The main couple of the play is very different from each other which is easily seen by the audience because of how they interact with one another. Othello was filled with hate for Desdemona because he believed she had cuckolded him, and Desdemona never stopped loving him even though he accused her of things she did not do. Desdemona asks Emilia That there be women do abuse their husbands In such gross kind? (4.3) showing how truly innocent she is and when Emilia asks if she would cheat on Othello she is appalled at the idea. Desdemona would never cheat on the husband she works tirelessly to please. In this instance Desdemona does not only prove her innocence, but she also shows that she is virtually incorruptible making her different from her easily corruptible Othello. Iago only had to show Othello a little evidence for him to become corrupted with jealousy. It was not Othello s fault that he was corruptible, but he was very quick to build hate for his wife, but slow to believe her pleas of innocence. The reason for this is related to the time in which the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Advantages Of Langston Hughes 1. The African American Dream: Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. (Hughes, New Song 9) According to the Declaration of Independence proclaimed in 1776 the democracy of the United States rests upon the fundamentals of freedom, equality and the pursuit of happiness. Imparting the precept that all men are created equal , the American Dream emerges. Often being described as a national ethos, it is spreading the belief that anyone has the opportunity for prosperity and success, regardless of race or social class. The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 emphasises these beliefs and promises everlasting freedom. Despite the official equalisation, especially African Americans could not avail themselves of their rights, still facing severe restrictions and isolation in everyday life. At the beginning of the 20th century the desire for freedom and self representation among the African American community grows and culminates in the Harlem Renaissancea cultural and intellectual movement, celebrating the African origin and developing a new black self confidence known as the New Negro . With sword fights between pirates, fairy dust, flying away from home right out the window and death being only an awfully big adventure (113), not many can see how they would ever forget such a place, but by keeping their windows open and unlocked, any child can enter Neverland through their dreams. Barrie s use of the window isn t simply an entrance or exit way for Peter, it represents the blurred line between a child s dreams and reality, how the trust of a mother s love can be the best form of hope, and how every child should cherish their years of youth and innocence when they can fly to Neverland and not be brought down by age. According to Barrie s Peter Pan, every child s mind flies into their own personal Neverland at night, and sometimes, the lands can be breached when a window is open. Children have a way to keep this window open for the possibility of their dreams to come true, while adult s windows are kept shut due to age and therefore, losing the ability to travel to their Neverland.
